I recently have taken in an African side neck turtle due to someone being unable to take care of him. I have lots of questions about care. I have tried to do my own research, but some things seem to be different on every sight.
Tank size/layout
Right now he is in a 50 gallon tank that is filled about halfway with water and he has a basking platform that is bigger than him. I have been looking at upgrading the tank size and purchasing a 125 gallon tank for him to swim in. I would love to make it where he has the entirety of the 125 gallon tank to swim and climb in, and then have another set up above that tank for him to bask and dry off in. It would still be accessible from the water. Some sights say that they are excellent swimmers and love the extra space, but others say they are not. I just need to know if this is the right way to go! He seems like a great swimmer, I have had him for about 2 months now and he seems to be fine with the larger amount of water but I want to be sure before I make the change.
Adding another turtle/ socializing
Some sights have said that this species of turtle is very social and that they enjoy the company of another turtles, but other sights say it’s best not to get another one. I have thought about getting another one to give him a friend, but if it is not a good ideas, I will not get one.
Feeding
I know they are omnivores and can have plants, live fish, pellets, mealworms and more, but I wanted to make sure what they could have. Specifically plants, I would love to add plants to the tank, but I want to make sure I add the correct ones. I don’t want to make him sick. Also what fish can they have?
Any other information I can be given would be great. I want to make sure to give him the best life possible. Thanks in advance!

I need some outside input on purchasing a business.
I have two options,
Option 1: purchase an existing business (franchise, mobile home repaiimprovement industry). Original ask was 350, we've worked a deal down to 275k (250k SBA owner carry 25k @ 8%) The biz nets around 110k. It has one employee who is a relative (ex) of the owner with a salary of 45k (1099), 110k is after wages).
Pros (abbreviated) has revenue stream in place, established 30 yrs, systems and processes in place, comes with tools, trailer, inventory, big name franchise.
Cons: 275k debt/note, 7% royalties, employee (can be a pro or a con depending on perspective). I will have limited cash flow after down payment. Have to wait till January to take over, January is the start of the slow season (est 6k/mo revenue vs 30-45k/mo).
Option 2: 30k pre-franchise deal. Ownecreator is building the franchise (has several "franchisees" already), I get trailer, consulting, training, tools, website, and grandfather clause (no royalties for life, I get to pick and set my territory, i.e. it's very large).
Pros: I can buy in cash, have no bank note. More control over the business. No royalties ever. Ownecompany has been in business for 30 years. Can be up and running in ~1 month. Owner is dedicated to my success (needs 'proof of concept' for franchise board approval).
Cons: no instant revenue, have to attract and grow the biz from ground up (also a pro, depending on perspective). Less known brand. Limited cash flow after purchase (will have roughly 5-10k, which should be enough for 1-3 months depending on marketing spend). Market does have a few small competitors (aside from the large franchise), I'd be the new guy.
This is the short of it, I'm sure many more details would be beneficial, happy to provide what I can.
I think both options can be successful, I don't like having such a large note hanging over my head with the uncertainty of the economy in the next couple years. With option 2 I could get a day job and cover my life expenses still if sh*t hits the fan. On the other hand, having "instant" revenue is very attractive, and all goes well I should have enough to cover the note, expenses, and a little extra towards debt to payoff sooner. Option 2 could provide high amounts of revenue rather quickly, or take months or even more than a year to see decent profits.
I've asked friends, family, business owners and it's 50/50. I know this isn't anyone's decision but mine but this is a decision that will really affect the rest of my life (I'm 39) so I am trying to get as much perspective as possible.

Context: I’m 22 he’s 23. We’ve been together for almost 10 months. His family invited me along on their trip to Greece (we live in US) for two weeks and we’ve been so excited about it. Last night he was showing me something on his phone and while switching apps I see tinder open with a message to a girl. He had asked her out to drinks while I was talking a nap. I almost thought I was seeing things at first bc the man I knew would never do this and he tried to lie to my face about it at first but eventually pulled up the message. We had literally been having a serious conversation about marriage about 10 minutes prior to this. Up until about two months ago he was the sweetest man in the world, cooked me dinner all the time, always kept flowers in my apartment, was just so kind. He’s always struggled with alcohol abuse but I think the excitement of our relationship being so good just made it better for a while. Anyways he started drinking more heavily and he wouldn’t get mean or anything he’d just turn into a completely different person and lie to me about whether or not he was drinking, whether or not he was driving stuff like that. He kept making all the empty promises about stopping and I was being pretty patient with him but he went on a few benders leading up to the trip where he would go “fishing” and end up turning his location off for a while and come back drunk or high and lying about it. I wasn’t going to put up with the lying for long but the one thing I never thought he would do was cheat on me. Looking back on it this definitely wasn’t the first time. I cried about it to his mom and sister last night because they’re the only people I have in this country. They said they wanted me to stay with them but wouldn’t blame me if I left. My question now though is what would you do in this situation? I’m at the start of this trip with a very detailed itinerary for the next two weeks. We were supposed to be island hopping for a few days at a time.
Forgiving him isn’t an option and I can’t just go along with the trip acting like nothing happened. We also work together in a very small office which makes things extra complicated. I live out of state from my parents so besides a few friends he’s pretty much all I have back home. Were supposed to get on a 4 hour boat ride from Athens to Naxos tomorrow and I think I’m going to at least go along from there and either get my own hotel for a few days or fly home early. I have enough money of my own to stay here for maybe a week but I’m scared that it’s just going to be more lonely than ever in a country where I know nobody and have just had my heart broken. Hi! My first post here.
To cut to the chase, I have a mother who always wants to find something wrong with my life. Ever since I was a child, she found the smallest things to be mad at me for, such as doing a chore just slightly incorrectly, and every single time she'd call me "useless". She constantly compared me to other children, and still does the same now and my big age of 19. Apparently, I'm not independent enough, and I don't care about her enough, even though I'm constantly going out of my way to prove that she's wrong. She's my mother, I would do anything for her. But she doesn't see that at all. Once, I told her I didn't like it when she called me worthless, and she told me that she said it because I am. She never apologized. Trust me, there's loads of things she's done to me that many of my friends feel like would justify me running away, but I'm not going to be too morbid.
At the same time, she's my best friend. I'm an only child who grew up with little friends, so the person I interacted with the most was her. We share a lot of the same interests and gossip about family drama. It's at those times, I feel like I'm wrong about her. But this time, she did something I feel I can't forgive her for.
Last July, I finally got a boyfriend. It seems like we're soulmates...we met on dating app but found that we have so many friends in common and also that we used to go to the same school as children. He's more than I could ever ask for. He travels to where I am by train for more than 2 hours every week (so a total of 4-5 hours). Once, he travelled more than 3 hours (a total of 6 hours) to see me in my university campus because I was feeling depressed about my assignments.
He indulges in my passions and interests. He doesn't have much money but sometimes scrimps on his meals throughout the week so he can afford to get me a small treat like ice cream when we see each other. He bought me roses on Valentines. He buys me meaningful gifts whenever he can. He understands me on a super deep level and we talk about everything. I could call him at 3am with a problem and he'd pick up. He never gets mad at me, and we've never had an argument because we always sort out our issues by communicating effectively. Heck, he even follows me to church sometimes because he wants to show me that he's interested in the things that matter to me and because he wanted to make a good impression on my mom-who married someone who never took interest in anything she did or liked let alone follow her to church every other week.
He's the most amazing guy I could ever want, and his family loves me (he jokes that they love me more than him). It's just that I haven't met them yet, since there's the distance to take into account, and because both his parents work so they're constantly busy. Also, they wanted to respect the fact that my mother might not let me go all the way to their house because of how far it is. Still, he always tells his family about me, and I often speak to his 3 sisters on the phone as they're younger than me and sometimes like hearing my advice.
My boyfriend, though, has met my mother on multiple occasions and she told me she loved him. My dad on the other hand, is actively avoiding meeting him (example: we were supposed to follow my dad to the temple for a special occasion, but at the last minute he backed out. He would never back out from that kind of thing).
If you're wondering, this is where the issue starts. My mother thinks it's incredibly suspicious that I haven't met his family yet (even though I told her I'm meeting them on the day my boyfriend graduates from pre-university). It was never really a big deal to me, since I have met his close friends and spoken to his sisters-and the fact his parents knew about me and liked me was enough. I understood that they are both busy working people and they live quite far from me. But yesterday, all this blew up in my face.
I asked my mother if she'd be okay with me taking a trip with my boyfriend, just for a couple of days, to celebrate our first anniversary. I wasn't expecting a yes or no, really. Just asking. Initially she yelled at me about how I haven't even met his parents yet and how he hasn't met my dad yet (which was entirely his fault) and said we should do it in September instead. I said okay.
Then, when I got back to campus later that night, I called her again to check up on her and she brought this up again. She said my dad disapproved of the trip and went on for 15 minutes about many things. I'll summarize in a list about what she said.

• He isn't good enough for you
• He doesn't want you to meet his family
• His family probably doesn't like you because they haven't met you yet
• You guys are taking things too fast and should continue getting to know each other
• You're always sacrificing for him
• You're getting the short end of the stick
• There are better people for you to date
• You're sacrificing your studies for him and you'll get distracted by him

As you can see, none of these are true. The last one made me especially angry because I go to what is known as a "smart kid school" in my country and it's very hard to get a distinction on our assignments! However, a condition on my student loan says if I get first class honors, they will cancel my debt completely. So my mom kept burdening me with how I dug a hole by myself for choosing to be in a relationship with him during university life (EVEN THOUGH, she wanted me to date around in university before. The difference is, she wanted me to basically be a playboy...playgirl? I don't know. When my mom was young she was exactly that. Had tons of boyfriends and cheated on a lot of them. She even told me to join a speed dating event).
I had never been so hurt in my life! What happened to "don't worry about money just focus on getting your degree"? Anyway, my boyfriend never complains when I tell him I need to be by myself on that day because I need to study and do my work...I'm one of the hardest workers in my class and he knows how much my studies mean to me. It's not my fault I'm not getting distinctions.
Now I'm a mess. I want her to love my boyfriend, and I want my dad to love my boyfriend. But he's truly done as much as he can to get their approval but he's depressed himself knowing that none of his efforts have been seen by them. He has a life, a curfew, and a worrying mother too...he can't always be accommodating to me (his mother initially didn't like me because she felt like he was spending too much time and money coming to see me but came around eventually), so I accommodate to him whenever by choosing a convenient location for us to meet up and meeting up at a later time. Because of this, my mother says I'm doing too much because distance isn't an excuse (it kind of is).
Anyhow, my question is, how in the world do I deal with this? Or at least, I need some comfort...this is the best relationship I'm honestly ever going to have but my mother wants me to date around because that's what she thinks having fun means. She thinks I'm sacrificing everything when the truth is, I'm having loads of fun in university with my new friends, I still see my old friends, and I have more than enough time to focus on my studies. He's not distracting me from everything.
How do I convince such a stubborn woman to be on my side?

Long story very short !
Approx 3 weeks ago had a small boil /bump on labia minora about an inch from clit.. it wasn’t terrible. Popped soon after I found it and cleared up in a couple days..
About a week later I found this pea sized bump just a bit above the previous weeks issue. Moderately hard, pea size.. I squeezed and poked and soon the skin was open and raw looking (see photo A) and yet nothing came out! Nothing!
In the last 10 days or so I can’t leave it alone much.. I’ve been poking and squeezing and while it’s very sore from all of that now, it still remains the same size and other than clear liquid (from irritation/swelling I assume) and blood NOTHING will come out.
There is STILL no blackhead no whitehead, nothing.
The broken skin /wound part from the first days squeezing frenzy is definitely healing and is white ish / fresh skin/ constantly moist area (see photo B).
Today it looks like picture C. And it feels like a vein is leading to it underneath. Like a pea with a small tube attached..
I have poked and prodded, soaked in hot compresses and squeezed and squeezed… NOTHING will come out.
Health history: 35 female, no major health issues… Virgin until marriage, partner also virgin until marriage. Married a long time. No cheating. No std’s. Never an abnormal pap, 3 c/sections, breastfed forever and ever. Had a few boil like pimple things down there before but nothing that has lasted SO LONG.

Ok so I just need a little bit of a sanity check here. I (35M) matched with someone (30F) 3 days ago. We live 200 miles apart in the southern part of the country. We talked on the app daily and things seemed to be going well. On day 2 she mentioned that she would like to have a phone call. I said that would be great! I usually wait about a week but I didn’t have a problem with an accelerated timeline. We continued to text until the call and everything was still going very well, I was looking forward to the call.
Once we get on the call things are still going fairly well, she rambles a lot as I listen. It was 100% her talking and me listening, but I was genuinely interested in what was going on in her life. At some point she brings up how much she detests the notion of living where I’m at currently or even visiting me up here. I didn’t ask her to do either, so I thought it was strange that she brought it up. She then talks about how on the fence she was about matching with me because I’m 5 years older and live in this place that she so dearly despises. I was a little offended to be honest and started to wish she hadn’t matched with me.
Then the subject of drinking comes up. I don’t drink for medical reasons that I did not want to get into after knowing someone for 3 days. So I just said that I can’t drink, I don’t have a problem with it and I don’t mind if she does. I just won’t be able to join in. She then proceeds to tell me how weird that is that I said I can’t. I told her it’s for medical reasons and she then said that she was wondering if I was an alcoholic or too attached to my mother. Like what in the world does that last part have to do with drinking? I have 3 boys ranging from 2 to 9 years old. My dream is for them to go to an Ivy. I myself have always wanted to go, but it never happened for me. We live in northern Jersey in very competitive town. Everyone is couching their kids sports, enrolling in all kinds of extra curricular activities. My kids are white boys so I know the chances are very slim for them to get accepted. What can you recommend I do now to help them in the future? Maybe any particular extra curricular? Or maybe it doesn’t matter much and parents are putting too much pressure on themselves and the kids. I know for the most part it is out of my hands and will depend on the kids themselves but still if there is anything I can be doing now, I don’t want to miss it. We have tried a few sports and it doesn’t appear my kids will be athletes.

Hi everyone!
My fiance and I get married May 2025. Originally, it seemed we had decided on Bali. However, after doing deeper research, we realized the travel time to get there will be pretty long (around 23 hours from Los Angeles). We are looking for a new destination, and I honestly feel a bit jaded and demotivated because I mentally committed to Bali. However, I'm coming here now to get some recommendations. Maybe some of your good experiences can bring me out of this slump!
*What we are looking for*: we would like to stay somewhere with beautiful beaches. Additionally, we are both really avid hikers, and would love to catch a few good hikes, so a place with beach *and* mountain/jungle would be perfect. Bonus points if there is someplace with a hotspring resort on a volcano (we perviously visited a volcano hotspring resort in costa rica and absolutely loved it). Note, the volcano thing is not a deal breaker. Also bonus points if the country has excellent food.
*Things that we are not looking for*: neither of us drink, so we don't really care for the party atmosphere or nightlife. We also don't want to visit a place that is unsafe and makes it so we can never leave the resort (for example: certain parts of mexico). Also, we want to avoid countries we already visited: costa rica, mexico, thailand, veitnam, cambodia.
*Budget*: we would like to keep it under $7,000 for approximately 10 nights. This budget does not include flights, as we are both using airline points to buy our tickets. What we really liked about the idea of Bali was the bang for buck value on hotels. I know we probably won't find anything that inexpensive closer to LA, but anywhere with lower prices would be ideal.
*Distance*: We would be flying from Los Angeles, so we would prefer to go somewhere closer than SE Asia. We are thinking a maximum of 12 hours flying time, but definitely the less the better.

The Metals Company (NASDAQ:TMC, the “Company”) - sustained heavy mining operations in abyssal depths of 3500 - 5000m using all new technology while asserting environmental friendliness in an “emerging” market lacking a regulatory foundation. Profitability is a distant and very uncertain gleam on the horizon.
Today’s “earnings” saw an overshoot in estimated loss by 60% compared to street estimate. The stock took a dive -10% aftermarket. This is your shot at a management team that already tried and failed miserably.
TMC, the Company and Management:
The Company is specialised in Deep-sea mining (DSM) and exploration, was established in 2021 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.
Members of TMC's management team, including CEO Gerard Barron, were previously associated with Nautilus Minerals, another company specialised in DSM. Nautilus Minerals' attempt to extract minerals from the seafloor within Papua New Guinea's territorial waters ultimately resulted in an environmental disaster and bankruptcy in OCT 2019.
The project was marred by instances of social, environmental, and financial mismanagement. A reported theft of $10 million was coupled with the lack of disclosure of investigation findings to shareholders.
What followed was a new DSM company called DeepGreen Metals, which in turn went public in 2021 through a SPAC merger with Sustainable Opportunities Acquisition Corp and took today’s name The Metals Company (TMC).
The Claims:
TMC possesses exploration contracts awarded by the The International Seabed Authority (ISA) through three subsidiaries: NORI, sponsored by the Republic of Nauru; TOML, sponsored by the Kingdom of Tonga; and DeepGreen Engineering Pte. Ltd., which has entered into an agreement with Marawa Research and Exploration Limited, a company owned and sponsored by the Republic of Kiribati.
All claims are situated within the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ) in the Pacific Ocean, which is regulated by the ISA.
NORI encompasses a seabed area of 74,830 km2 and is projected to harbour approximately 866 million wet tonnes of polymetallic nodules. TOML, spanning 74,713 km2 of seabed, hosts an inferred resource totaling 756 million wet tonnes of polymetallic nodules. As for the Marawa arrangement, its resource assessment remains pending.
Their compositions are found to consist of approximately 30% Manganese, 1.3% Nickel, 1.1% Copper, and 0.2% Cobalt. Based on current assessments, the net present combined value of mineable metals is estimated to range from $6.8 to $8.6 billion. The combined claims of NORI and TOML would constitute the second-largest nickel mine globally in terms of resource size.
Deep-sea mining (DSM) for Polymetallic Nodules:
A remotely controlled undersea robot is sent down from a support vessel to dredge and suck polymetallic nodules off the seafloor. In late 2022, TMC successfully demonstrated its mining capabilities by collecting approximately 4500 t of material and extracting 3000 t of nodules with a sustained production rate of 86.4 tonnes per hour during a system test. The company aims for 200 tonnes per hour with additional collector heads and a bigger capacity riser pipe.
Profitability estimates for DSM vary widely.
The Financial Situation:
TMC has a market capitalization of ~$460 million. It incurred a loss of $25.2 million last quarter, with a trailing twelve-month loss amounting to $73 million. Total cash at hand stands at $4 million. The company has the option to access $25 million in additional proceeds from an unsecured credit facility maturing AUG 2025, which remains undrawn, and another $20 million maturing SEPT 2025, of which $2.9 million were drawn in MAR this year.
Pro forma liquidity is ~$49 million. Dept sits at ~$16 million.
The ship should stay buoyant for another 12 months from now, without resorting to measures like dilution.
The International Seabed Authority (ISA):
The International Seabed Authority (ISA) serves as the principal regulatory body overseeing the exploration and exploitation of minerals located on the international seafloor. Established under Article 156 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the ISA is responsible for developing regulations governing these activities.
As of now, the ISA has yet to finalise a rulebook for the industry.
In 2021, TMC, sponsored by Nauru, utilised a regulatory loophole to initiate a process that imposed a two-year deadline on the ISA to establish regulations for DSM within its jurisdiction. With the ISA failing to meet this deadline in 2023, countries are now permitted to apply for mining licences in the absence of official guidelines.
TMC plans to apply for exploitation rights after the ISA session JUL – AUG this year.
The application review process is expected to drag on for 12 months. Production is anticipated to commence in Q1 2026 (revised from Q4 2025).
It is noteworthy that the USA is not a member of the ISA.
Relationship highlight - TMC and Nauru:
Nauru, formerly a prosperous island nation buoyed by abundant phosphate deposits, has faced financial challenges since the depletion of these resources in the 1990s. In recent years, the country has been associated with activities such as money laundering for the Russian mafia and detaining refugees seeking asylum in Australia in conditions widely criticised as inhumane. Additionally, Nauru has been noted for its propensity to alter political allegiances in pursuit of financial benefits, recently ditching Taiwan for China.
“The partnership with TMC is hoped to become the largest contributor to Nauru’s GDP, once fully operational, and vital for the country's economic survival.” This is according to Peter Jacob, a former chief of staff for Nauru’s Office of the President who now works as the NORI Country Manager at TMC.
Nauru Ocean Resources has pledged to pay corporate income tax in Nauru, where the current rate stands at 25 percent. Additionally, Nauru will receive a predetermined payment (tbd) for each ton of nodules extracted through mining activities.
Recent Development:
TMC has invested an approximate total of $100 million towards conducting environmental impact assessments as part of the regulatory process for securing mining rights from the ISA. The company submitted the biggest comprehensive dataset on the environmental impacts of DSM as of yet to the ISA, with an even bigger one announced for the ISA’s session JUL this year.
A life cycle assessment done in 2023 by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence suggests TMC’s NORI-D nodule project could outperform land-based routes in all measured environmental categories, including mining, transport, processing and refining.
Several countries, including China, Russia, Norway, Mexico, and the UK, advocate for the advancement of the DSM industry. China, in particular, already asserts claims to deep-sea mineral resources and has already undertaken mineral exploration activities in the international waters of the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
On JAN 9 of this year, the Norwegian parliament made a decision to open extensive areas in Arctic waters for DSM activities. In response, the European Parliament passed Resolution B9-0095/2024 in late January, expressing significant environmental concerns regarding Norway's action. The resolution reiterated Parliament's support for a moratorium on DSM and urged the European Commission and Member States to adopt a precautionary approach and advocate for a global moratorium on deep-sea mining, including at the ISA. A total of 24 countries worldwide, including seven European Union (EU) member states (Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden), have voiced their support for a moratorium or suspension of deep-sea mining activities. France has outright banned the practice.
In FEB 2024, the ISA released a streamlined draft of regulations with key areas yet to be “consolidated”.
In MAR, legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives calling for the U.S. to “support international governance of seafloor resource exploration and responsible polymetallic nodule collection by allied partners”, and to “provide financial, diplomatic, or other forms of support for seafloor nodule collection, processing and refining.”

Risks:
The Secretary-General of the ISA faces reelection in JUL. Michael Lodge, who served two terms, now faces accusations of "interfering with the decision-making process" and "sharing information with mining companies." He's not been nominated by the UK for his third term as before, but by the island nation of Kiribati. I fear Lodge's absence could spell short-term trouble for the sector, given the presence of some fiercely prohibitive candidates.
The recent earnings loss overshot was partly attributed to heightened transportation costs of nodules to a partner facility in Japan for processing. This highlights that the business model faces inherent risks, including the lack of provenness, the novelty of the technology, and the certainty for unforeseen challenges during sustained operations.
A surge in climate change and biodiversity cases indicates, DSM litigation is foreseeable as aggrieved countries, communities, and other stakeholders impacted by DSM can take the ISA, mining companies, and other parties they deem liable to international, regional, and national courts.
Profitability might face additional constraints due to anticipated seabed restoration obligations that are expected to accompany exploitation rights.
Considering the current financial situation and the expected timeframes, there is a risk of dilution due to liquidity challenges by Q3/Q4 2025.
All of these factors are compounded by a highly speculative and politically charged regulatory limbo, where states are beginning to enact regulations on a national level.
Finally, crowned by TMC's management team's prior involvement with Nautilus Minerals and the outcome of Nautilus' deep-sea mining project.
Speculation:
Treating TMC as a mining company at 20% - 50% of its underlying asset’s NPV, the price tag should be $9 - $11. Though TMC is everything but a “traditional” mining company.
Worst Case - a ban on DSM: Considering the lengthy processes of exploration, assessments, applications, and environmental studies, along with the current financial situation, the company may remain operational in its current structure for another 2-3 challenging years, but your investment will plummet to the depths of Hades.
Timelines shift to the future: This could be due to a prohibitive candidate becoming the next secretary-general at the ISA, or environmentally fueled initiatives to delay DSM. The more time passes, the more TMC will feel the urge to squeeze its shareholders.
TMC applies, the ISA misses the deadline again: We’ve come full circle, though with a higher potential. TMC could go to court, start operations as planned or something in between. I expect upside potential from this.

These girls in my history class are convinced there are two moons in the sky. AND THEY ARE IN NURSING. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE TAKING CARE OF YOU WHEN YOU ARE ILL. I heard them say “I think I’m allergic to the sun because when I stare at it, my eyes hurt 😕” LIKE NO SHIT SHERLOCK ITS A GIANT FUCKING BALL OF LIGHT. Even worse. I go to a “rich kid school” so basically everyone is either very rich or dirt poor. So these kids don’t necessarily need to try in school, they can just buy their way through. Some kids don’t even show up cause they can buy their way out of it. These kids are out here complaining about their BMW was the wrong color and I’m just trying to focus on how I can even get to work and school at the same time.

My wife's sister Eva has always been the center of attention. She is very self centered and is obsessed with romanticizing her life to her own detriment. She refuses to take a job that she isn't passionate about and has bounced around various countries traveling for the last 8ish years. This wasn't a huge deal, but several years ago, she was impregnated by and married a 20 year old guy.
My wife has always been the responsible one in her family. She raised her other nephew for the first few years of his life because her other sister Dina had severe postpartum depression. Additionally, her parents went through a messy divorce and she had to care for her sisters a lot growing up, so she’s “the responsible one”.
Eva always says that no one has ever helped her and she's always had to do everything herself. That is far from true. She is the kid’s primary caregiver, so I’ll give her credit, but she is by no means raising him alone. She relies heavily on her family for money and childcare. Eva’s father regularly flies her out to see him, paying for everything and also sends her money. Her husband’s family also sends her money monthly. Her mother flies out to her and assists with childcare every month or so for sometimes weeks at a time. My wife flew out when she gave birth, helped with caring for both her and the child afterwards, and none of them to my knowledge ever received a thank you. She thanks them by constantly telling them they need to step up and do more. It's never enough. I'm fully convinced that her family could all care for her 24/7 and she would still tell them they weren't doing enough because she’s fundamentally unhappy and blames everyone else for it.
Her relationship with the child's dad has been rocky from the beginning. She doesn't want to be with him, but she also doesn't want him seeing other people. He’s always seemed like an okay dad, though he travels for his job, so he’s gone for days or weeks at a time. Also like I said, he was basically a teenager when they met, so he doesn’t have much in terms of a career or experience. When he’s home, she tells him he needs to work because they need money. When he works she tells him they need him at home. They live overseas so they do have some free childcare, but she says that it’s not enough time to allow her a part time job.
So yeah, things have never been great and it’s no secret I don’t really like being around her. She’s a pleasant enough person to talk to (most of the time,) but she’s such a chaotic presence that any time we’re with her, I’m on edge. Her family feels the same.
Things came to a head recently when Eva’s husband finally had enough and essentially told her that he can’t make her happy and they need to live separate lives and co-parent. Every time my wife visits them, they inevitably end up screaming at each other, so we all think this is for the best. He’s not the best dad, but he’s far from the worst. He’s also pretty self-centered and romanticizes his life similar to her. Now that they’re breaking up though, she’s accusing him of abuse, though I’m unclear what she’s specifically accusing him of. Since she’s started with those allegations, she’ll also backtrack on them, alternating between being angry that her family won’t support her in her abusive situation, and then being angry that he isn’t around more to help and telling them that she needs him home more. It’s also worth mentioning that her definition of abuse has stretched to saying that her friend abused her by giving someone else a job that they were supposed to give her. Additionally, she was previously diagnosed as a teen for being schizophrenic. I don’t know much about schizophrenia, but she definitely has something going on mentally, though to me it’s more what I imagine BPD or bi-polar to look like. She seemingly floats between multiple different versions of reality, and fully convinces herself that whichever version she’s in right now is the only one there is and ever has been. She’s open to therapy which her family has encouraged and said they’d pay for, but she won’t do the work of actually finding a therapist.
So, now she’s in a custody battle with the father which she’s predictably not handling well. He wanted to move into another apartment in their complex and she refused, saying he’ll be too close. Then she’s refusing to give him the two items from their apartment that he wanted to keep for himself. She’s always been very vindictive once she decides that someone has wronged her. When asked to actually draw up a custody agreement that she’ll agree to she won’t, presumably because she prefers shifting goalposts and not having something that people can hold her to.
It’s new drama every day. She’s constantly berating her parents and sisters for not doing enough for them and “siding with her abuser” when they try and do anything productive with the joint custody discussions. Honestly if it wasn’t for her child, I don’t think they’d put up with it, but everyone is concerned for the kid. He’s so sweet and they don’t want him cut out of their lives. They try to walk a fine line of influencing what they can while stopping short of telling her the whole truth, that she’s the one that’s being unreasonable most of the time. Honestly they’re probably some of the few stable presences in the kid’s life, so they want to make sure they stay in it.
My wife has asked what I think, but I don’t have a great answer. I know generally it’s best to not cater to the demands of someone so toxic and unwell, and by not fully calling her on her shit, they’re enabling her to some degree. On the other hand, they’re right that if they did call her on her shit, she would burn them and likely cut them out of the child’s life. Even if the court battle gets nasty, I don’t see her getting less than 50% custody of the kid. She’s been his primary caregiver and while it’s probably not a great environment mentally for him, it’s not anything that the courts would separate a family over. In general, she’s not a bad mom and doesn’t mistreat the kid from what I’ve seen, though she will weaponize him against the father.
All this is taking a mental toll on my wife, but she’s decided to do what she can to ensure the best outcome for her nephew given the circumstances. So she does what she can to try and influence from the sidelines while also walking on egg-shells trying not to piss off her sister too much. It would be much better for her mentally if she stopped interacting and participating in her sister’s drama, but again, there’s the kid to worry about. She’s tried just engaging less and her sister takes it the same as if she’d disagree with her. Anyone have any advice with how to approach this? What can I do to support her?

Intro: 8 years ago I built a high-end video editing & gaming PC, and I was very into PC hardware at the time. Since then, I stopped paying attention and have no clue what's good and bad these days. I also game way less now.

My wife's sister Eva has always been the center of attention. She is very self centered and is obsessed with romanticizing her life to her own detriment. She refuses to take a job that she isn't passionate about and has bounced around various countries traveling for the last 8ish years. This wasn't a huge deal, but several years ago, she was impregnated by and married a 20 year old guy.
My wife has always been the responsible one in her family. She raised her other nephew for the first few years of his life because her other sister Dina had severe postpartum depression. Additionally, her parents went through a messy divorce and she had to care for her sisters a lot growing up, so she’s “the responsible one”.
Eva always says that no one has ever helped her and she's always had to do everything herself. That is far from true. She is the kid’s primary caregiver, so I’ll give her credit, but she is by no means raising him alone. She relies heavily on her family for money and childcare. Eva’s father regularly flies her out to see him, paying for everything and also sends her money. Her husband’s family also sends her money monthly. Her mother flies out to her and assists with childcare every month or so for sometimes weeks at a time. My wife flew out when she gave birth, helped with caring for both her and the child afterwards, and none of them to my knowledge ever received a thank you. She thanks them by constantly telling them they need to step up and do more. It's never enough. I'm fully convinced that her family could all care for her 24/7 and she would still tell them they weren't doing enough because she’s fundamentally unhappy and blames everyone else for it.
Her relationship with the child's dad has been rocky from the beginning. She doesn't want to be with him, but she also doesn't want him seeing other people. He’s always seemed like an okay dad, though he travels for his job, so he’s gone for days or weeks at a time. Also like I said, he was basically a teenager when they met, so he doesn’t have much in terms of a career or experience. When he’s home, she tells him he needs to work because they need money. When he works she tells him they need him at home. They live overseas so they do have some free childcare, but she says that it’s not enough time to allow her a part time job.
So yeah, things have never been great and it’s no secret I don’t really like being around her. She’s a pleasant enough person to talk to (most of the time,) but she’s such a chaotic presence that any time we’re with her, I’m on edge. Her family feels the same.
Things came to a head recently when Eva’s husband finally had enough and essentially told her that he can’t make her happy and they need to live separate lives and co-parent. Every time my wife visits them, they inevitably end up screaming at each other, so we all think this is for the best. He’s not the best dad, but he’s far from the worst. He’s also pretty self-centered and romanticizes his life similar to her. Now that they’re breaking up though, she’s accusing him of abuse, though I’m unclear what she’s specifically accusing him of. Since she’s started with those allegations, she’ll also backtrack on them, alternating between being angry that her family won’t support her in her abusive situation, and then being angry that he isn’t around more to help and telling them that she needs him home more. It’s also worth mentioning that her definition of abuse has stretched to saying that her friend abused her by giving someone else a job that they were supposed to give her. Additionally, she was previously diagnosed as a teen for being schizophrenic. I don’t know much about schizophrenia, but she definitely has something going on mentally, though to me it’s more what I imagine BPD or bi-polar to look like. She seemingly floats between multiple different versions of reality, and fully convinces herself that whichever version she’s in right now is the only one there is and ever has been. She’s open to therapy which her family has encouraged and said they’d pay for, but she won’t do the work of actually finding a therapist.
So, now she’s in a custody battle with the father which she’s predictably not handling well. He wanted to move into another apartment in their complex and she refused, saying he’ll be too close. Then she’s refusing to give him the two items from their apartment that he wanted to keep for himself. She’s always been very vindictive once she decides that someone has wronged her. When asked to actually draw up a custody agreement that she’ll agree to she won’t, presumably because she prefers shifting goalposts and not having something that people can hold her to.
It’s new drama every day. She’s constantly berating her parents and sisters for not doing enough for them and “siding with her abuser” when they try and do anything productive with the joint custody discussions. Honestly if it wasn’t for her child, I don’t think they’d put up with it, but everyone is concerned for the kid. He’s so sweet and they don’t want him cut out of their lives. They try to walk a fine line of influencing what they can while stopping short of telling her the whole truth, that she’s the one that’s being unreasonable most of the time. Honestly they’re probably some of the few stable presences in the kid’s life, so they want to make sure they stay in it.
My wife has asked what I think, but I don’t have a great answer. I know generally it’s best to not cater to the demands of someone so toxic and unwell, and by not fully calling her on her shit, they’re enabling her to some degree. On the other hand, they’re right that if they did call her on her shit, she would burn them and likely cut them out of the child’s life. Even if the court battle gets nasty, I don’t see her getting less than 50% custody of the kid. She’s been his primary caregiver and while it’s probably not a great environment mentally for him, it’s not anything that the courts would separate a family over. In general, she’s not a bad mom and doesn’t mistreat the kid from what I’ve seen, though she will weaponize him against the father.
All this is taking a mental toll on my wife, but she’s decided to do what she can to ensure the best outcome for her nephew given the circumstances. So she does what she can to try and influence from the sidelines while also walking on egg-shells trying not to piss off her sister too much. It would be much better for her mentally if she stopped interacting and participating in her sister’s drama, but again, there’s the kid to worry about. She’s tried just engaging less and her sister takes it the same as if she’d disagree with her. Anyone have any advice with how to approach this? What can I do to support her?
tldr; wife's sister is unstable and treats her family poorly but they're forced to cater to her to stay involved her her child's life. What do?

I am not looking for a specific roleplay. I would say i’m skilled in all genres. Sci-fi, fantasy, horror, apocalypse. All of that. Even slice of life, though that depends on what type of plot exactly. To be more specific on each genre, starting off with fantasy, I'm more used to high fantasy and mythology. I’m not that great with medieval, unfortunately. DnD based role plays aren’t really fit for me and I struggle playing with species like ogres. Just putting that out here. For fantasy, I don’t have any specific ideas.
Sci-fi is the genre I have more skill in. Most of my roleplays are based off of them! Specifically, I’m fine with all subgenres of that.
For other genres like horror and apocalypse, I do have some taste. I really like monsters and creepy things from the horror genre like vampires and all of that and I even have my own idea set up in older times dealing with vampire lords and hunters and all of that. I also enjoy eldritch type horror. I also like that one sun genre of it, like video game horror? I’m not sure how to describe it. I also forgot if it even has an official name or if it’s just something used to describe the horror genre. I like Resident Evil, so maybe that’ll tell you the type of horror I usually enjoy. I do have a developed idea of something more eldritch horror.
More on fandoms! To get some other things down, I usually only play OC unless the character you want me to play is one I know more about and I'm more comfortable playing. The fandoms I like in the more anime way are Jojo’s, Nana, Death Note, JJK, AOT, Haikyuu, and probably more. I’m well versed in the Jojo’s, Aot, and JJK fandoms but less knowledgeable on Death Note since i’ve only seen it once. Other fandoms i’m in include ATLA, TLOK, Harry Potter, Resident Evil, Marvel, DC, and many more.
CHARACTERS
I tend to use character sheets to describe my character, these usually consist of names, background, and personality. More so on appearances, I prefer using animated or drawn references than real life people. I enjoy good enough references where I get the idea of how the character would look like.
The types of characters I write are either the lone wolf type that has some sad past which leads them to want to join someone for a redemption arc or the bubbly character who is the one that brings the mood up and is usually seen as trustworthy and of that kind.
I like all types of tropes, especially enemies to lovers or rivalry. I also really enjoy opposites attract as a whole from either opposite personality or something else they would be opposites in. Enemies to lovers takes my heart, though. I love seeing the characters go past the urge to ultimately hate each other and/or go past their usual way of disliking the others lineage or upcoming.
REQUIREMENT
I think this is my last paragraph on the roleplay. It’s the most important, at least. Requirements. All roleplay searches come with them. Or at least that’s what I heard! But don’t fret, there isn’t much.
I’ve seen this as one of the most used requirements, and I agree with it. As someone who’s first language wasn’t English, I understand that you may not be great at it. But please, I do require a partner that at least has proper use of grammar and punctuation. You don’t even have to use big words or anything, just at least know where to put your periods and the placement of your words.
My second requirement is for you to be LITERATE! Please. I’m a big writer, I tend to ramble on and tend to write more than what I thought I would. (like i’m doing right now) I write multiple paragraphs from the starter until the scene relaxes. I also understand that sometimes writing big blocks of words every response is tiring or boring so I don’t expect it all the time, at least after the starter has been made and in more important scenes. Dialogue also cuts my replies shorter.
Please please please be polite in OOC! We may just be role playing together but kindness goes all ways. If we do include OOC, I enjoy talking about many things. My day, movies, games, funny moments and stories, all of that!

I ain’t really want nothing fr, just a place to share my thoughts on the K-pop industry+ the fetishizing of Korea through its media. I will I can’t really speak on the whole perspective as I am not Korean, but as a feminist I still feel like I have to say something and take the proverbial plank out of my eye.
I was reading this really good thread on Twitter from a feminist in Korea. She details many systematic problems in the county that women face and are harmed by. Fem-scide, extreme misogyny, abuse, etc. I share it because I feel like her voice needs to be heard on a wide scale. I know everyone in this sub is cool, but I say it for brevity sake to go and read about what she says and engage with it respectfully and show her just as much respect. Do not harass her! Now this gave me some pause, I’m not going to lie. It’s not everyone’s problem, but it sure is the problem of a dangerous amount of people, and that scares the shit out of me. The thread is making me look twice at how I consume K-pop and K-drama as an outsider looking in. Yes, both of these things have introduced the world to a wider perspective of Korean culture, yet I still feel like people are falling for some bells and whistles, and I feel like I’ve fallen for it at some point in my youth as well. People are spreading their personal problems with fetishizing a whole Country and its People to create ideal images and spread these “ refined” ideas to others, causing this weird “ they can do no wrong attitude” to happen. Flawless images like that penultimately hurt movements like feminism.

The reality of women in Korea is very scathing, too scathing for people to have back’s and forth’s about how “ unproblematic” a certain idol member is compared to others. Spreading useless “ He would never” when in reality, he just might be, hell maybe he totally would. Like yes, not every man is going to be horrible, but aligning every one of them to a media stereotype not only blinds women to the reality of character, but also puts a unrealistic and dangerous stereotype on Korean men, no one deserves to be thought of only as an idea to be lusted over. 

I have already met so many people who absolutely have these gross ideas of Korea and Koreans, and when that happens, nasty results is all you get to see. Now I’m kinda scared because I feel like engaging with idol culture, I’m actively giving money that harms a human rights movement, I’m giving my money to an industry built to be a beacon of misogyny, and intended to spread it. Paying the bills of the people who create these distractions from liberation. And that really scares me. I can’t really look at my groups the same way again.

I've been feeling a little bummed out lately. I always try and stay happy and see the best in things. But.. I've just been so alone. Most of my whole childhood and adult years have been spent feeling lonely. I grew up surrounded by cornfields which was peaceful but also has a lonely aspect to it. My family never really were close and never did anything as a family really. And part of it too is the fact that I never had any neighbors my age to interact with. But aside from that, my adult life has been very lonely. I'm just always by myself. I barely have any meaningful adult relationships or experiences, or even any friends.
I work a 3-11 job in building maintenance at my company world headquarters building which I love, but again it's very lonely. I work the off shift so the building is always empty. I don't get normal social interaction with people my age or a chance to build relationships. I only have 3 older men as co-workers and we are mostly in the basement away from any people on the floors from knowing our existence. I always walk the floors and see office people laughing and chatting with their coworkers and I just don't have that kind of experience. And just.. no one knows I exist really. Everyone probably assumes I have a lot of friends, but I'm struggling inside with being so alone and trying to meet people and get past the "hi how are you?" "I'm good thanks" stage. Most people don't seem to want to talk beyond that. And most women are already in relationships and thus it would seem weird to approach them in an office setting trying to get to know them deeper. But man those "hi how are yous" are the only real interactions I get during my day.. so thus I decided to come here lol. Rant over, sorry! I promise I'm not a downer. 😅
Now for some things about me!
As you can tell, I am very mature for my age and am polite and have good grammar which unfortunately not everyone my age does anymore lol. I am not active at all on social media/internet culture really and don't know much about all the slang the younger people these days use. I feel like I'm 50. 🤣
I am left handed which is pretty cool. I'm not much of a party person or a drinker, I much prefer a quiet night at home and maybe a beer or two on a weekend but that's about it. I am simple and stay out of drama and trouble and don't get much into politics or other things that cause drama with people. I much prefer a relaxing campfire and a night at home and to just let the world keep on turning haha. I consider myself pretty intelligent and mature, especially for my age which is why I'm open to older ladies.
Physically I'm 180 pounds, have brown hair, green eyes, and a typical build. There's a few pictures on my profile.
Some of my hobbies are:
• Photography
I have a Nikon D200 and D5500 that I love to shoot with. I love nature scenes, abstract, black and white/goth kinda photography, sunsets, etc. it's so fun to just let your mind explore. It's not about what camera you have, but those who are behind the camera! I'm gonna try and photograph the northern lights tonight!
• Cooking and baking
I loveeee to cook and bake! I enjoy making various meals but also love to just have a frozen pizza once in awhile or something like that. I recently made homemade chili which turned out great. I love to bake, especially in the fall! I love pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, etc. I restored a vintage KitchenAid mixer that needed tbe gearbox rebuilt. Eventually I would love to practice home canning my own food.
• Music
Oh my gosh, I like so much!! Alternative rock, punk, post punk, electronic, synth pop, psychedelic rock, hard rock, etc. I am very non judgemental and open when it comes to music. My three current favorite bands are Type O Negative, Joy Division, and the Cure.
• Nature walks and camping
I really enjoy camping, making fires, and relaxing by a campfire. I love to take walks outside and just enjoy the beauty and simplicity of nature. It's wonderful, especially in a world so focused on everything digital.
• Repairing things
I'm a maintenance guy and one of my hobbies is electronics repair so I am good with my hands and just all around good at troubleshooting and fixing all sorts of things around the house. Last week I helped my elderly neighbor get his tractor started, it needed a new component in the starting circuit. So I'm pretty handy which... Comes in handy! 😂
• Autumn 🍁
This isn't a hobby per say, but man do I love the fall!!! It's my absolute favorite time of the year. Oh my gosh. The beautiful colors, crisp cool air, misty and foggy days, rain, lack of bugs, being cuddled up with a candle or by the fire drinking a tea, etc. I love it! There's only two seasons for me. Fall, and waiting for fall! Haha.
• Scented Candles and incense
Going along with my love for fall, I absolutely love candles! I have like 30 something lol. 😂 Currently my favorite are WoodWick, which are owned by Yankee candle. They have such a soothing crackle and the scents are great! I also love to burn incense from time to time as well. I have cottagecore hippie vibes.
• Old houses and architecture
I love old houses! Especially 1900s and Victorian era homes. Old homes have so much character to them and are just so beautiful from a time when people took pride in their craft. I strongly dislike the modern cookie cutter cheap construction of homes today. I would love to live in an old home one day. I also love their architecture and uniqueness, as well as architecture of old cathedrals and other buildings.
• Relaxing
Basic I know, but sometimes on the weekend I just love to get cozy in bed and relax and put on a YouTube video or an album! 😊
That's about it for me, I'm a pretty laid back and simple person. My ideal person is someone who is respectful and honest! I am very straightforward and open minded and would hope that you are as well.

Me [F26] and my gf [F24] have been tgt for a bit more than a year and I suffer from retroactive jealousy over her ex bf that she dated for 3yr. I was fine with him first but until I heard that he used to abuse her and even physically caused her bruises and scars, I went nuts and became rly retroactive jealous.
What bothers me right now is that she never introduced me to her dad and all of us never had dinner tgt like they did with her ex. Her excuse is that her dad is scary and strict so if he finds out that she’s dating a girl now then he might disown her.
Found pics of her and her ex hanging out with her sis and even mom sometimes. And I had lunch with her and her mom once when I visited her country but never hung out with her sis even though we r all in the same city.
It also seems like she used to take a lot of pics of them tgt like selfies or just pics of him etc. and it’s the opposite for me, during our relationship it’s always me who’s so obsessive and always taking pics of her. she still takes pics of me but not anymore compared to when we first got together. Her excuse is that she got fatter that’s why she doesn’t wanna take pics anymore. But I always reassure her by saying she’s the cutest. Well, it’s not helping me because I feel like she doesn’t treat me the way she treated him.
I know I sound dumb for being triggered and affected but I can’t help. That’s why I’m ranting it here and seeking help
