2024.04.30 19:24 Visual_Aide_2477 The Lost Geronimo Stilton e-books could be there, somewhere [Talk]

This is an update to my post in which I am trying to find lost media from the Italian book series Geronimo Stilton just to help someone who is a great fan of the book series. I am too slowly becoming a fan of it. The link for it is here:
https://www.reddit.com/lostmedia/comments/1biepyk/fully_lost_geronimo_stilton_ebooks_1997_2008/
I just found out a site called docplayer.net and it appears to have some of the books which used to be on the defunct site called CyberRead. I hope it works...
If this fails. I don't know. I better inform LostMediaWiki.
Hint - docplayer is available in only certain regions (mostly Europe) with domain name different from country to country.
docplayer.it (Italy)
docplayer.es (Spain)
docplayer.fr (France)
docplayer.nl (The Netherlands)
docplayer.de (Germany)
Use them only if ou want to find the original non English version. I found an unbelievable ton of Geronimo Stilton stuff there.

2024.04.15 19:27 Visual_Aide_2477 Analysis Of A Plot Summary

Analysis Of A Plot Summary
A fan poster he sent me (he made it).
The summary - Longing to be taken seriously as a journalist and move beyond the cheesy puff pieces he’s usually assigned, Geronimo stumbles onto a conspiracy far bigger than anyone expected. He’s out of his league and with his eccentric family always up in his business, Geronimo’s problems seem insurmountable. But, working together, they might stand a chance as long as they can stay one step ahead of his foes in this explosive game of cat and mouse.
Text analyzed and revised - Trying to be recognized as an important journalist and move beyond the poor quality and unimportant articles that emphasize useless topics he is usually assigned to, Geronimo mistakenly enters inside a conspiracy that is bigger than anyone has ever imagined. He is out of his job (The Rodents Gazette) and with his ‘oddly behaved’ family always intruding his business; Geronimo’s problems appear to be impossible to overcome. But by taking action and working together, the family might expect success as long as they can think ahead and avoid danger from his (Geronimo’s) enemies in a strong and violent conflict of deceiving tactics.
What We Can Learn, Think and Guess (WWCLTG) – Geronimo Stilton (the main character) is struggling to become internationally acclaimed and famous and to do this, he must report serious matters (such as war, food insecurity and pollution) rather than often ignored ones (celebrity gossip and reviews for new books). While exploring someplace all by himself (as the original text suggests), he appears to have followed someone (possibly an entirely different thing such as an anthropomorphic animal who is not a rodent) and ended up confined in a world where he explores all by himself leading to his realization that a massive conspiracy exists but is known to many, however it is not well known. As we can learn from the original plot summary (‘text’), Geronimo is fired from his job at ‘The Rodent’s Gazette’ as a result (what usually happens after information from a company one works for is leaked or information from some other business by the worker himself/herself). The aftermath is his family always intruding him and his tasks to survive jobless while Geronimo is failing to overcome his tragic misfortunes. However, if he works together with his family: Success may achieve as long as everyone thinks straight ahead and escape dangerous conflicts from his enemies using methods of tricking and deceiving them.
*Note – This passage may give headaches to some people. I apologize to those who suffer from reading this. There also could be grammatical errors.
What I have found (SPOILER WARNING!):
· After years of being in the fields of journalism and publishing, Geronimo Stilton has finally realized that he will never be a great journalist just by revealing small or globally unrecognized scandals, writing about his own personal life and doing other stuff (as we all know from the books and animated television series).
· To achieve this, he unfortunately has to encounter topics that make him paranoid, emotional and sensitive (e.g.: Global issues, wars and their consequences, global crime rings and trafficking of sentient beings).
· He has to get away from his duty to please children but still try to make the world a better place!
· In the original plot summary, he has stumbled onto a conspiracy bigger than anyone expected. This implies he has tried to do something alone somewhere not mentioned (somewhere unknown). He may have also followed someone as well.
· Another point is that he has probably ended up in a dangerous situation (like being confined in a almost dark place).
· He has probably got information by hearing or peeping through (such as a ventilator).
· Geronimo Stilton on returning (after being rescued or managing to escape) is fired. And is no longer trusted by everyone, his high popularity falls down into extreme obscurity and financial losses are borne.
· His strange, dysfunctional family is always trying to be in every part of his work (thinking they would help him).
· Another reason why Geronimo’s problems are impossible to repair is due to he refusing help from his family or the family is poor in mental skills.
· The only way to end his problems is that he and his family must work together (which in common sense, are often exploited in films where the main character takes this decision as a last resort. An example is Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (2017)).
· Again, as repeated a few times. The family for a lengthy duration has to stay one step ahead in an array of near-violence between cat and mouse (possible reference to the Pirate Cats – villains who attack the world of mice and rats. They are absent in all episodes of the animated television series).
MORE!!!
The movie, despite what the director and producers have said about it, appears to be of a more serious context (not considered kid friendly). It is most probably suitable for children 12-15 and up. However, it is an upcoming film so we can’t make sure everything stays the same. In my opinion, the plot summary is reminiscent of certain dramas that air only on TV (e.g.: soap operas) and touches of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865).
There is also a suspicious theory about the conspiracy in the film being of a similar vein like Zootopia (2016) or Illuminati references with Occult/Satanist. It is not confirmed yet as there have not been any updates since the film was announced on Monday, February 13, 2023.
Other things that are currently unknown include the budget, the cast, the animation studio currently involved and several other things we cannot know or locate unless someone leaks data from there.
There’s a domain purchased last year and there is nothing to find. However, you know what I am meaning (do not visit it till the near future):
www.geronimostiltonmovie.com
One very important thing is that, the franchise itself is somehow, very underrated but some fans (often those who grew up reading the books or watching the television series) are booming it’s popularity like I do.

CONCLUSION

So far, there have not been any further updates apart from a poster uploaded to IMDb and other similar sites in June 2023. I believe Radar Pictures is using a tactic (the same they used for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and a few other movies). The animation style is currently unknown but looking at the mentioned poster since June last year, it is definitely going to be in the styles of Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse (2018) and some adult animation?

The upcoming new plot summary could be the same as the one I have covered or in fact, it could be something totally different. The project for the movie could even be cancelled due to issues (unfortunately) or with supposed ‘surprise-tactic’ going in progress.

As we know, the troubles Geronimo faces in the plot summary may sound familiar. The plot may be totally different.

As more updates come, we will be able to get a full idea on the entire film even before the trailer comes out with the help of Atlantyca Entertainment.

END OF SUMMARY

2024.04.14 22:22 Visual_Aide_2477 What are your thoughts on this upcoming animated film?

What are your thoughts on this upcoming animated film?
This film is based on the global bestselling Italian book series 'Geronimo Stilton' and it is about a mouse (the character's name shares it's title) who goes on adventures and records them in his own point of view. He may remind you all of Sherlock Holmes but in my opinion, he reminds me of Alice from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The film is a collaboration with the American 'Radar Pictures' (of 'Jumanji' fame) and the Italian trans-media company 'Atlantyca Entertainment' (the owners of Geronimo Stilton) and it is being directed by David Soren.
In case anyone who is wondering, here is the 'Deadline' link for the article (link below):
https://deadline.com/2023/02/geronimo-stilton-feature-adaptation-radar-pictures-david-soren-1235257358/
As unfortunately, the trailer has not been released yet; I am not able to predict anything but by looking at the poster (see below), this might give clues:

The official poster which was released online in June, 2023 and still has not been replaced.
One clue is that it's gonna be somewhat dark (as you can see by the art-style of the poster). Another is that it's going to be a milestone in the animation industry soon just like Toy Story by introducing new techniques. It looks like it will be a global success.
Also, one last prediction:
$32 million opening, $299 domestic gross, $906 worldwide gross.
What are your thoughts?

Is there a vintage edition in which Alice wears this exact thing!
Does anyone on this subreddit remember this picture?

I used this image for my very first post here (Link below). Do not click on the Internet Archive link as the file was taken down by the uploader (the creator) of this book for copyright reasons.
Link - https://www.reddit.com/aliceinwonderland/comments/1atl6d9/weirdest_alice_book_eve
The use of Geronimo Stilton illustrations, bitmap files ripped from CARDS.DLL and crops of Tenniel's own illustrations combined with the creator's own illustrations makes this book both bizarre and wacky.
Less than twelve days ago, the creator sent me a reply (I sent him a message about what I think could have inspired him to use the character Geronimo Stilton as Alice).
He replied that it was from supposed similarities between the two main characters of both book series. He also told me that there was a vintage edition he found on AbeBooks or eBay dating back to the early 40s - 70s or before. It had an Alice wearing the exact same outfit as the pictures above and below:

This picture he sent me. The Invisible Mouse!
If anyone knows where to find that Alice book. He will be happy to thank both me (for posting this) and the one who found it.

\Note - I posted this eight days ago but due to lack of response from others. I deleted it. This is a better version of that post.*

2024.03.19 08:39 Visual_Aide_2477 [Fully Lost] Geronimo Stilton e-Books (1997 - 2008)

Hello! Do you know Geronimo Stilton? I sure do (although I am not a fan of it). It is very interesting due to the colorful illustrations and text format using various fonts (in styles and colors). It was first published in Italy by Dami Editore in 1997. Dami Editore is the publishing company founded by Pierro Dami, father of author Elizabetta Dami, the creator of Geronimo Stilton, her first book series.
I was just thinking that if I type 'Geronimo Stilton' on the Wayback Machine, things are going to be too different. I was doing this so I can download old stuff for myself.
https://web.archive.org/web/20001117204100/http://www.geronimostilton.it/
As you can see, it looked totally different. However, one thing... so many lost media exists on Geronimo Stilton. The e-Books mentioned are one example.
Text (Italian) - Da oggi puoi acquistare
l'e-book di Geronimo Stilton presso CyberRead.com.
Translation - From today you can buy Geronimo Stilton's e-book at CyberRead.com.
When you click CyberRead.com, you get this 'This domain is for sale' message', this is all because the website got defunct in 2011.
There are several e-Books in the site which are no longer found (have not been archived). Even on the current site as well.
https://geronimostilton.com/IT-it/home/
Here, the names of some of the e-Books: Two of them found!
Text (Italian) - Cari amici roditori, ho una cosa importantissima da dirvi! D'ora in poi potrete leggere le mie avventure anche su libro elettronico!
I miei e-book sono due: Geronimo Stilton's Illustrated Tails e Geronimo Stilton's Humorous Tails with the Secret Portrait Gallery.
Geronimo Stilton's Illustrated Tails potete acquistarlo su Internet presso cyberread.com.
L'altro, quello con la galleria segreta dei personaggi, sara in rete... prestissimo!
Translation - Dear rodent friends, I have something very important to tell you! From now on you can also read my adventures in an electronic book! My e-books are two: Geronimo Stilton's Illustrated Tails and Geronimo Stilton's Humorous Tails with the Secret Portrait Gallery. Geronimo Stilton's Illustrated Tails can be purchased on the Internet at cyberread.com. The other one, the one with the secret gallery of characters, will be online... very soon!
Interestingly, the titles of these e-Books are in English, not Italian. However, it is possibly due to the site being international. Another thing I pointed out that on the webpage for CyberRead in the year 2000. The e-Book Geronimo Stilton's Illustrated Tails is the fifth most popular book purchased.
https://web.archive.org/web/20001010155414/http://www.cyberread.com/search_result.asp?PRODUCT_ID=ISBN:8838455325
Another thing is that one of the books later became the Character Guide of the official website but it appears to be totally abridged with less images than the final one.
https://geronimostilton.com/IT-it/personaggi/
On both CyberRead and the Geronimo Stilton website - The book cover is missing? Would there be any way to get it as those who purchased it may not have it anymore.

2022.05.14 20:19 IAmGilGunderson My Favorite Free Resources for Italian Learning

Note: I plan on updating this post over time to have a quick way to link others to these resources. Last Update Apr 15, 2024
If the learner is a native English speaker then Language Transfer Italian is a wonderful beginner course.
L'italiano Secondo Il Metodo Natura Italian According to Natural Method book. It is most likely public domain and is available for free as an e-book.
There are professional Audio Recordings of the first 20 chapters available for free from Ayan Academy. There is also a complete reading of all 50 chapters is available from Free Tongue Youtube.
This books starts from page 1 with almost no prior Italian experience needed. Then progressively adds words and concepts. The first 12 chapters are getting the reader ready to understand stories. The first of which starts at chapter 13. Then chapter 21 starts a new story.
There are exercises but they are not needed unless the book is used in a class setting. The same people who make the audio recordings also make an answer key. But there is no known answer key outside of theirs.
Leggiamo 101 and Leggiamo 102
The Leggiamo 101 was made by an Italian instructor to be used in class, but has provided audio recordings of each chapter for self study. The chapters follow the TPRS (Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling) method.
Leggiamo 102 is a shortened easier version of 'I promessi sposi' Audio is provided. It generally follows the TPRS method. It is greatly shortened and the vocabulary is kept at a level that someone with CEFR A2-B1 could understand.
SBS Australia Slow Italian Fast Learning a weekly news show. The shows are usually 5 to 10 minutes long and come with a transcript of the Italian and a Translation in English.

2022.05.14 18:02 -jacey- Can we make a master list of comprehensible input resources for beginners (all languages)?

Regardless of your opinion on language learning methods, I think most of us would agree that input (listening and reading) at your level is an important part of the learning process. For me personally, it's also the most FUN way to learn.
However, it's not always easy to find resources for input that is comprehensible for beginners. I thought it would be helpful if we could make a list of specific resources in a variety of languages, so we can save them for when we start a new language, or to share with people who are just starting their journey, or who are struggling with their listening/reading skills.
Specifically, I'm asking for resources for levels A0-B1 that use the target language to tell stories or communicate messages/information. They might use pictures, drawings, slow and simple language, etc. to make it understandable for beginners. I'm NOT looking for resources that explicitly teach grammavocab, or that heavily use translations. I am also not looking for listening/reading drills/tests/exercises.
Post your recommendations below, and I will edit them into the original post so we can have one big list. Please include a link and make your recommendation specific (instead of saying, "graded readers", include names and links to specific books that you enjoyed). Whenever possible, include the language level of the resource, the format, and whether it's free or paid.

2021.12.31 19:46 PrincessPandaReddit Racism in the Geronimo Stilton series

NOTICE 2: ...or is there? If there is, then should we be concerned about it? Here's a lengthy rebuttal I got. Yeah, I may be overly politically correct in some areas because I'm paranoid. Because of this, if you have common sense and are not going to discriminate against others, please make your own mind about how you perceive and treat the Geronimo Stilton series. I am not asking for the series to be "canceled".
NOTICE 1: If you are about to downvote this post because you think I'm being too politically correct, I want to say that I don't like being politically correct, but I also want to say that racism has no place in the present day.
I was reading a Thea Stilton book from the library one day when I came over to the last page and saw an emblem of the Thea Sisters, which had Violet, a Chinese mouse, with slit-shaped eyes. As a Chinese person who liked how there was Chinese representation, I was wholly offended. After that, I scrutinized the illustrations in the later books and tried to find if Violet's eyes were shaped to be thinner. Maybe they were, though that could be excused to be an innocent attempt at depicting Asian anatomy accurately (slit-shaped eyes definitely have no excuse).
In Thea Stilton and the Blue Scarab Hunt (yes, that book which had some controversy for its first version excluding Israel in the map, in case you didn't know yet), Violet is shown wearing a stereotypical Asian conical hat. This could be excused as an innocent depiction of Chinese culture, but I was annoyed. (Some of the Sisters' hats could also be stereotypes, but Violet's conical hat stands out.)
Have I mentioned Violet appears to be the "smart Asian" stereotype? Her article on the Geronimo Stilton Wiki states, "She seems to follow the Asian kid stereotype, since she knows how to play the violin and piano, is very much into the arts (music, dance, painting, drawing and theater), reads and studies a lot, knows multiple languages (English, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese), plays board games like chess and checkers to the point where she is an expert at said games, and achieves impressive academic feats, like winning a scholarship for her art class in Holland and touring as a violinist for a production of Romeo and Juliet in the London theater." She may also have traits of the rude Asian stereotype, being easily angered and grouchy when sleep-deprived.
The other Thea Sisters could be stereotypical; for instance, Colette is a French fashionista and Nicky is a wild Australian (stereotypes of white people tend to be seen as less concerning than stereotypes of non-white people; I'm just giving examples- Okay, when I was writing this, I forgot Nicky has some Aboriginal Australian ancestry).
For the Geronimo Stilton series, I'm Too Fond of My Fur! and A Cheese-Colored Camper depict characters representing Asians, with their eyes appearing to be in a shape like a slit. I could be overlooking it, but Ratzikistan, having a name based on the Central and South Asian countries, being declared a place totally (read: totally, there are still things to do at the top of Alaska) unsuitable for tourism seems insensitive to me.
These reviews from users claiming to be adults for the Geronimo Stilton website on Common Sense Media complain of tropes perceived as sexist and racist being prevalent in the series. This quote contributes to the main topic here, "...and the bad guy is a presumed Indian raj in a turban." This Washington Post article states, "Be careful of “diversity” in your existing books that actually reinforces negative stereotypes. 'Geronimo Stilton [sic]' and 'Skippyjon Jones,' as well as anything considered a 'classic,' may have visual or written elements that require investigation and discussion." (This is especially needed due to the problems I explained with the Thea Sisters.)
This Amazon review criticizes the depiction of Christopher Columbus in The Journey through Time: The Test of Time, which was only released in English in 2019, "The book is well written as always, but the fact that we have Columbus, once again, written as a good guy is disheartening. The man was a greedy and not particularly bright explorer who is reponsoble [sic] for a genocide. Why are books still showing him as a hero?"
This is pretty much a shame as Geronimo Stilton is aimed towards children (I have to mention that ever since I introduced the books to my now 8-year-old brother, he's a fan of them), seeks to educate them, and boasts lots of exciting stories for everyone, and from what I know, there are no alterations for these issues in the English translations. (We can also talk about how abusive the characters seem and how those behaviors are never fully condemned, another way Geronimo Stilton could send negative messages to impressionable children.)
Could this be because of values dissonance, either that people in Italy may not be socially conscious about race, sex, and other topics or that people in general weren't sensitive to race as today (Dav Pilkey thought it was a good idea in 2010 to publish a graphic novel depicting Asian characters with slits for eyes and pretty much as stereotypical. Good thing he apologized and retracted the book from distribution last year.)? What are your thoughts on this? I want to hear them!

2021.12.28 22:25 Tythen Listing the English VAs of the Agito Twin Wings of Freedom!

I still can't get over the fact that the two crazy self freedom-fighting twins would be joining us, and in a rather unconventional way compared to just making themselves known and whatnot. Now, we have two new people to the kids table. Hoo boy, the Halidom's getting more chaotic by the second. I'm surprised it's still standing having to deal with the people, as well as a couple of very unruly adventurers!
Now, back to the topic. Ayaha and Otoha. With the five demons still on the loose, A&O have made a truce. I wonder if the rest of the Agito will find some beef with them and follow suit. Now, since a long time ago, the VA of Otoha decided to reveal her identity on Twitter, within the Canadian guidelines in regards to role revealing in cartoons and games. However, Ayaha's VA remained to be seen, until now. Presenting our crazy twins:
Ayaha is voiced by the one and only Erin Mathews! If you've heard the name or voice before? Yes! She voices Lowen, or at least Halloween Lowen, given that the original Lowen had her pseudonym before the ACTRA unionisation Rae Hall. Talk about two fire staffs! Anyway, Erin was born in Toronto, Canada, and has primarily been doing Voiceover work, starring in a lot of lead and supporting roles from various cartoons. Examples of main characters, to name a few, include Coop Burtonburger, the 'Kid' in Kid vs. Kat, Pac-Man and Ms Globular in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Princess Macy Halbert in Lego: Nexo Knights, even the voice of Sackboy in Sackboy: A Big Adventure! As for supporting roles, they include Little Strongheart and Gabby in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Zelda Spellman and Jessie in the animated series Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch, Akira Yamatoga from Beyblade Burst, and a set of different characters including Benjamin Stilton in Geronimo Stilton! What is your take on Ayaha?
As for Otoha, it has been very much known that her voice is done by none other than Caitlyn Bairstow! Great voice actor, as well as a fellow Dragalia Lost player! CaityBair has also been busy in the VO department, voicing mostly cartoons, anime and video games. Alongside voicing Linnea, Botan, and Yachiyo in DL. She's also voiced the main character Lucky from Super Lucky's Tale, Link from Crypt of the Necrodancer: Cadence of Hyrule, Chika Amatori from World Trigger, Suna Light from Mega Man: Fully Charged, the twin sisters Liana and Lana from Langrisser II, or at least in the mobile game Langrisser Mobile, and Honey Guten from Beyblade Burst to name a few! So, how have you thought of their voices?
I pity the night patroller who had to face the twins at the end of A&O's adventurer story. Possibly Karl or Berserker. Welp, can't wait to see you a few days from now, where the new characters of the Hinomoto New Year's storyline: Tiger Shingen and Yukimura, Emissary Izumo, White Tiger Dragon Fudo Myo-o, and the Goddess of the Moon Tsukuyomi herself! See you soon!

2021.08.16 23:09 Cartoon_Low Thank you all for Aloha Georg-ino's success!

Thank you all for Aloha Georg-ino's success!
I've always dreamed of leaving even a small mark in the world of animation, learning new techniques, and telling new stories. The short film "Aloha Georg-ino", released on my channel on July 31st, is proof of my desire to explore new worlds and to know new working techniques to make myself known by new communities, in addition to that of SMG4. I want to thank you wholeheartedly for your tremendous support, as "Aloha Georg-ino!" is now the most successful Geronimo Stilton-based amateur animated short film on the Internet!
Working on this short film was tiring, but I'm glad my commitment paid off well! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! Special thanks also go to Carla Lanzetta, Klary Allia, and iFireStar14. Thanks to their amazing talent and support, everything was made possible for this cartoon! :D
Here's the link to the cartoon for anyone who hasn't seen it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKAFjftKrIQ

2021.07.19 19:15 floridameerkat [QCrit] Middle Grade Fantasy - Potluck Adventures: The Quest for the Quigger-bigger-tribalis (65k)

This is the rewrite for a query I posted a little over a week ago. Thanks to the feedback I received, I rewrote most of the blurb to better show the storyline, characters, and stakes (hopefully) and changed out the comp titles.
Original query
Dear [Agent],
Thirteen-year-old Sally Sea Camel Porkroast loves nothing more than solving mysteries. So when she uncovers the story of a monster currently terrorizing the once renowned Sparkling Springs, she can’t resist investigating. Legend says the monster, a Quigger-bigger-tribalis, drank the water in the town’s famous, titular spring, and who wants to visit Sparkling Springs without its sparkling spring? Now a near ghost town, Sparkling Springs has little to offer Sally, except the chance to finally solve a mystery.
It’s not until Sally meets the monster, a friendly dragon named Opal, that she realizes the legend is wrong. Opal has been shunned by the Sparkling Springs townscreatures for something she didn’t do when all she wants is to be accepted by them. Desperate for help, Opal asks Sally to clear her name and uncover who’s really behind the spring’s disappearance.
Along the way, they gather clues that just might prove Opal’s innocence, but in doing so run straight into the real villains, a devious pair who run an illegal business selling the spring water, and who will stop at nothing to keep their business a secret. Now Sally and Opal must solve the mystery on the run. In an effort to escape being captured, they end up deep underground, where Sally learns Opal is not the only creature in need of saving. Now Sally must not only convince an entire town that their monster is innocent, but race to save everyone involved before the real monsters get them first.
Full of mystery and adventure that incorporates Mother Goose and fairytale characters, POTLUCK ADVENTURES: QUEST FOR THE QUIGGER-BIGGER-TRIBALIS is a stand-alone middle grade fantasy novel, complete at 65,000 words with series potential. It will appeal to fans of the Geronimo Stilton and Dragonbreath series.

2020.12.08 06:54 bbilford83 FINAL list of 170 PSP games that 1) work well on PSC, and 2) don't require an analog stick

So I thought that my prior post (here), which was my third attempt at this list, would be final. Then I realized I'd already done so much work it seemed silly that I had excluded some genres (mainly sports, puzzle, and RPG games) from testing just because I don't play them, so I gave it all one last go, and tested virtually every game playable to an English speaker made for PSP. The only things I still omitted are almost all the minis, pretty much all rhythm-based games (input lag makes them mostly unplayable IMO), and some of the games in a series where I only tested one or two (e.g., annually-released sports games in a series). So what follows is *for real* my last stab at this. Same caveats as before - I am running this on Project Eris so I don't have the benefits of KMFD Manic's "Xtreme" Retroarch, but I do run his cores on RA games. Anyway, hope it's helpful.

2020.10.19 01:20 ignaposts [Thank You] ¡Que plancha lo atrasada que estoy con mis agradecimientos! (Chilean stuff #5)

Plancha, which means iron... the one used to iron clothes (so many "irons"!), in chilean also means "embarrassing": "It's embarrasing how late I am with my thank you's!"... or something like that. Oh, there was a tongue twister with "plancha", (but not the chilean one): Pancha plancha con cuatro planchas.... Why 4? It makes no sense, should be "pocas" instead.... but saying "few" for ironing with irons is quite a lot. Lol.

I know many here have sent me more than the mentioned cards below, but I'm keeping it simple and going with the ones that come out first for this round. For the glitterbomb ones, that'll be my last update, thus marking my definitive return to the sub (and also definitive chaos on my room again, oh dear... I'm seeing the pandora box eeying me evily)
So, let me try pouring with my weak words my feeble attempts at muttering my gratitude to so many wonderful people.

u/feellikebeingajerk Oh, man.... it seems the overseas Easter chick test failed due to... unexpected world events, lol. But it did bring me such a smile when I opened it.... many many months later (5 maybe?). I adore Samson. Yeah, that's how I named my chick, since he looks kinda hairy. Have it in my desk, supervising my artsy mess. I used the orange pipe cleaners to tie the two pompoms and even the beak! I wanted to test myself how little glue I could use in this project, which I find really fun challenging myself.... specially now. Oh, come on, look at Samson, he's so adorbs. <3 Thank you so much.
u/bellanova2018 I really hope your trip to India was awesome. I'd love going there some day! Al the regional dishes stamps are so fascinating, (and pretty). Thank you so much for also introducing me to such cool food. Now I really, really wanna try Palak Paneer. What does it have? My sis told me it doesn't look apetizing at all, but knowing that it has spinach, now it is in my top 10 ones I wanna try if I ever travel there. Is food too spicy? Thank you so much for such an awesome mail. I also LOVE your handwriting. I wanna try your cool “A”s, haha.
u/KrebsLovesFiesh I opened your card during quarantine and it brightened up my day so much. It had a super cute postcard of a watch shop. It reminded me of this store I liked seing with my mom and sisters in Austria everytime we turned a corner. It had these colorful handmade clocks with such fun and cool shapes. There was one of a kitchenaid . Wow, who would've thought that was this year. Seems like it was sooo long ago. I really hope you've been doing fine.oh, I also really loved the envelope with the year of the rat stamps marks. That is so freakin cool. They're so adorable, it makes you wanna collect them.
u/LifeOfLari Thank you so much for the Lake Kawaguchi postcard. Mt Fuji is so pretty. It reminds me of the Villarrica Volcano. I love watching it throwing smoke with the lake at its feet. I loved your story of asking help to a grandma while lost. It is so cute! Like being a kid back again. I usually get lost everywhere, specially in foreign counties when I'm supposed to be in a group. Lol, I sound so hatable, haha. But when I'm stolling alone, I like to get lost in purpose. I usually end up finding pleasant surprises. Who knows, maybe you find the old couple again one day, I'll keep my fingers crossed ;)
u/TigerLady13 Oh Aunt Bertha. I swear this card got lost after so many drinks, it took ages to arrive!. Even the stamps were backwards, adding more awesomeness to these cards sent by my fave auntie. Shhhh, don't tell that to anyone. My love is the best cash, so sending you lots of it! I also love the fact that you greeted me first in spanish and that was too scholarly for vacations, so it was crossed out and replaced by a proper holiday like “aloha”, lol.
u/oneinamelon I had a big facepalm with this yahoo knock knock joke. Many don't work in Spanish, so we have other types here, so it always feel new and refreshing, lol. And yes, I prefer google too. Is Yahoo still alive? I wonder if people still use it. I think after google I'd rather use DuckDuckGo before yahoo or even Bing. Bleuuughhh, don't like Bing at all. It is so messy and I never get the results I want. Thumbs down. And for some reasone I keep uninstalling it and from time to time it gets re-installed with the updates. Lol, I went on a tangent? Thanks so much for the laugh. I wanna show it to my sisters :)
u/CeceMarie I can't describe how much I love this card. It almost feels prophetic, how our everyday interactions get more and more transfered to the online world. Wow, 15 years ago feels like yesterday, but so many differences were there!s The 2000's feels so close but are actually quite back. What made me tell the card was old was the fax number in the back of the card instead of an email. I wonder if people still uses fax machines. I always felt them wierd, noisy and obsolete... and expenisve. I guess Chile was really poor back in the 90's. I remember my parents waited for more than a year to get a phone number, and they lived in a flat behind my grandparents, so they extended a wire up to their apartment, but it was the same number. I remember in elementary school a friend had a color printer in her house and that was so freakin cool. We never had a fax. What people used to do was to go to someone's house to send them or special shops. And for very imporant or specific things. I remember when my cousin was born the 94 in europe, and my aunt send us a fax. Still faxes felt alien for me. Maybe because I never used them for work. In the 2000's I watched many things on cartoons that seemed normal in households but not here. Like putting people on hold and changing to another call, or group calls, or seeing the ID number. I wonder if it was ever possible or a paid aditional service. Wow, how times change. During quarantine we got rid of our house number. It was painful for my parents, but at the end most of them were spam calls and no one wanted to answer. Oh gosh, I'm writing a novel here, I should give you a proper slow reply.
u/ninajyang I love the pictures you've taken in your trips. This one is an amazing night skyline in Shangai that looks so pretty! I'd love to visit there one day. When I got your postcard I couldn't stop and think, wow, cities next to clear waters look so dreamy! It makes me wonder, what were the sounds there, how are the people like, what are the smells that can be sensed, the temperature. I love remembering the smells of trips, and when I get to sense them again, they transport me to the good memories I've had around the world. I tasted Glühwein for the first time when I met u/5-finger-death-punch. And that's one of the aromas that stuck for that memory, with the feeling of a cold nose sensing the heat of the hot spiced wine. Oh man, I had planned traveling to Aus next month for quite a while and then tour Asia. Who knows if that'll be possible. But who knows if the future holds unexpected good surprises instead? We'll see. Thank you so much for your postcard!
u/5-finger-death-punch My dear friend! I've remembered you so much! For a long time I've felt like writing you a long letter, but then I start overthinking stuff and that oh, this is a carding sub, and that could be overwhelming and yada yada yada. I hope you're doing well as well as your studies. And also that you've kept your same address, I sent you some stuff your way. Did I ever send you the picture of the unrememberable-name-for-me sweet we ate? We couldn't ice skate at the end with my sisters that weekend, but we got to enjoy nice live music at the Prater while flakes started to fall. My historian sister remembers you the most, and in a very fond way. We had so much fun that day. Getting the Albertina postcard with the … Feldhase... Der Haseichverstehenicht? Brought me so many good memories. I wish I could've visited more museums! My fam hates me, I take too much time inside. I love how you also put a bunny in the back. I think I've watched this postcard for 10 minutes straight. Lol, I could make a museum locked-down experience with some of the postcards that I've got, and have no one complain.haha. Thank you so much. Ohhhh, I just realized! This one is stamped in germany with a flockenblume. Wow, I think I'm starting to understand what felt so overwhelming before! Is it like.... sheeps flower? Lol.
u/underscoreophelia Thank you so much for such a pretty and filled with energy and positivity card. I loved it so much! I love your handwriting and notes, and fun letter, it brings me so many good memories and also a Geronimo Stilton vibe, and I LOVE it. I also love how you write Chile... I wanna try writing it too. This was such a nice card to get, filled with so much love and praise. I know I've been away for a while, and that I wasn't very filled with warmth and positivity the last months, but now I feel filled with new energy again, and determined to be the best version of myself... and probably still a bit cray cray. I guess I still love being different and doing wierd random stuff. I really hope you've been doing okay. And hydrated? Lol, in my fam we became addicted to water this quarantine. Our first day out to a restaurant we all asked plain water and I refilled it 3 times and also drank my sis'. I've drank so much water that fizzy drinks taste wierd now and feel like a chore (for example, being in the countryside and no one brought drinkable water ) Thank you so much, and rest assured, I'm dead set on archieving real longlasting happiness now. And I know that can be archived by searching what is really really true and real, getting rid of what's fake and selfish in me and by doing my best for others by walking the extra mile. I have a hunch that I'm capable of loving so much more. There is so much good I could do! The future looks so bright now, whatever happens.
u/yellowseptember (x3) Oh my dear yellowseptember, I felt so spoiled getting your surprise selection of poems, haiku and poo-etry. You wrote them? Wow, I wanna try writing pooetry too. It'll always be a mystery to me how on earth you print your cards. I sometimes forget how much fun it is to write them. The other day I helped my cousin write a rant in verse about quarantine. In Spanish, of course.... I haven't tried in English, except that impromtu haiku battle I once had in the comment section of this sub once. I seriously love your cards, they made me snort, and the postcards are pretty and fun! It is also my first woman in science postcard I recieve, and I love it! I wanted to be a scientist when little, but robotics and mechanics was only for boys back then and that was maddening. I also was the only girl in advanced physics.
u/PotterSarahRN Ohhhh it's a scented valentine's dinasour! That was so unexpected and cool! I can't believe it held its strawberry smell all the way up here and still has it. I love how these cards are so cute and colorful and happy. Since which age kids start celebrating valentine's? When does the “change” happens? The one from gifting friends to actually thinking on flirting and all that. I was familiar with these celebrations because of tv, but it felt so foreign to me, but kinda cool. Though probably I'd be the kid that got the “oh, let's don't leave her out” cards and thingies, because I was such a trouble maker, lol. At least since 4th grade (it it “since” or “from”?? ahhhh someone help me!!), because I had an awesome group of friends till 3rd grade... until puberty hit them and they got so... stange, and since I was in other school, I couldn't keep up with their new interests and dramas. I think puberty hasn't reached me yet in all these decades.lol. By the way, my lil cousin says the card smells nice. I have a dilemma, lol, I freakin love tatoos and I like sticking them into paper and decorating with them, like a hardcore level sticker. But there's also my cousin's daughter that is obsessed with them and she'll get so happy if I paste her a couple. It's funny to see that all these little kids are full of these sticky tatoos, like in summer, since they don't have to take them off for online classes. Makes me feel like I'm already in summer. Ahh, sticky tatoos bring me so many good memories. We got them out of chip bags, mostly, and Chuck n' Cheese prizes and birthday's parties. Because we always got few tickets, so we could only redeem the cheapest things, which were usually tatoos., lol
u/germymany I had to read the “wheelie like you” twice to understand the pun, lol. The croc is so cute! Thank you so much for one of my firsts valentine's cards. It was so fascinating to think kids give each others these type of cards. That's so cute! I actually never celebrated Valentine's at school because that date falls into Summer Vacations, and just between february, when the “recambio de veraneantes” happens, that is, when almost everyone that was on their 2 week vacation, return to their homes and the others that took the other half of the month start theirs. It's chaos, and, since Chile is a loooong huge single panamerican highway pretty much, you can imagine the incredible traffic jams that occurs. So a huge group is stressed out travelling, not caring about it much, and in the many years I dated, I was always far away for that day... and kinda forgot about it? I also almost never had phone signal. How do you used to celebrate it?
u/fashbrownz I got your pretty aquarell card done in February.... very late in the year. Thank you so much. I hope things are doing better there. I still can't send to your country, which is pretty frustrating. We're still in our first wave down here, we managed to flatten the curve and the hospitals never collapsed because the government made the private ones open their doors to help the public system during our critical period, since we're all in this together. We're slowly going back to our normal lives, area by area, and the parameters are very well defined and everyone knows there won't be total “freedom” until a cure is found. But at teh end we're human beings and get tired of feeling uncomfortable, so we'll see. We already were having March panic buying because of the social protests, so it was implemented early on the limit quantity and in some places is still held, because some are still hard to find or the production of them was badly affected. I think I never asked my friends with 7, 9, 10 and 12 siblings how they managed that. This time has taught me to practice patience, which I don't have too much. It's interesting how every country has taken different measures, I sometimes feel like lab rats in a huge global scale experiment. I hope that this make us more humble and we learn from our mistakes and also the others' and copy and improve the best meassures and ideas that have been implemented. I'm dying to send you a reply, can't wait for the post service to open up to more countries.
u/stephanieTay Thank you so much for the xmass postcard with the advent candles. This was my first cold xmass in the northern hemisphere, and was able to smell and see the colors the picture shows, which brings me cozy memories. There was also a washi tape depicting Japanese Christmas cakes. I find it interesting how they also have their own version and traditions of that holiday, like the strawberry cakes.'They look quite yummy! Thank you so much!
u/YESmynameisYES Thank you so much for the Weasley's Wizzard Weezes postcard. Oh boy, I love those twins. I loved whenever they appeared in the books. And I love the quote you put “Oh wow, we're identical!” I couldn't help but smile. I used to be a Potter head, haha. The annoying kind that when the first movie went out I would complain about all the differences. And then I decided I'd never watch a movie again. In my child eyes they felt too dark and... dusty? Though I remember how wowed I was with the first movie trailer. The castle on the outside was cooler than what I imagined (don't get to see castles here at all), but those staircase were a trillion times better and cooler in my imagination, and I actually loved them a lot, I felt so heartbroken in that scene. When I started reading the books, I had just changed to another elementary school, and I had a freckled redheaded classmate, son of a teacher there, that was a troublemaker and had a huge family too, so it was not hard at all to imagine the caotic environment and fun interactions and hardships. The 6th book was so fun with all the Umbridge-related bullying done by the twins. I sometimes had trouble following them, because I read that book in English, and there are soooo many hard and unknown words but at some point I was so mesmerized by the book I kind of pretended I understood it and imagine whatever, lol. I read them all again last year and I was amazed at how different it felt. I could understad so much more after all these years!
u/PoisonousKey Thank you so much for the cute Winnie Pooh postcard. I feel your handlettering is getting better everytime, and it's so pretty! Have you practiced more? I'd love to see how it's evolved by the end of the year! I haven't practiced at all.... I got into a lettering class right before getting locked down and then I got somewhat discouraged after killing 2 brushpens. Well, after all these months locked, I killed many pens, specially my favorite drawing pens. From overuse and daily accidents. It's funny, when my family starts overdoing something, I get discouraged too. They got addicted to buying online, and I culdn't buy anything untill they calmed down. Or after they got obsessed with photography, I could never again take a camera in our family trips, despite how much I like taking pictures. What's the point of having 7 persons taking pictures to everything?? How it can be an archievent to come back with 3000 pictures that are a pain to sort out? Now I wanna try improving my caligraphy again! I just love how you do the “I”'s, I wanna try it now. Funny that in Spanish it's uncommon to capitalize so many “I”s, since it's not an overly used pronoun, haha. Thank you so much.
u/el_azul I LOVE the postcard from the stamp museum you sent me, and love the architecture of the buildings shown, mainly because it's so different from what I've seen in my life (I'd love to travel there some day). I wanna send you a postcard of one of our stamps' illustrators in Chile... as soon as I can send again your way. Unless we do a postcard chain with someone else that is able to send your way... that would be so cool. What you liked the most of that visit? I'd love to visit one some day... sadly stamp culture is dying in Chile.... the gov' puts their friends in charge of these departments, so they're zero interested in snailmail or philately and they're expecting it to die... as the stamp artist told me. She's the youngest by faaaaaar of the colectors that go to the official meetings and releases. Thank you so, so much for going the extra mile and sending me one, I wrote this while listening to Tam Zamani, such a nice peaceful song.... what is it about?
u/theycallmemia I ADORE your space postcard with the saturn pin, I found it such a cool format. I love its colors and everything, thank you so, so much for spoiling me. Do you like pins too? I love them, but I'm still a messy collector, haha. I wanna make something to display them, but I'm a master at procrastinating... I get distracted too fast at practically everything, ouchieeees. It's funny that since this one was not just paper, it went through the packages system and had to cross customs. They put a barcode in the envelope whenever they scan them through the packages system. I might be saying some postal aberration, but my English is too limited, lol. Btw, the doodle you did of yourself is super cute, and made me smile even more.
u/ThriftyRiver “Awww” that was the first thing I said. When I opened your card with a cat in it from Pet Partner's. And “awww” also said my lil cousin who was standing at my back. “Did she made it?” he asked. Oh, haha, other person walked behing me just now and also awwed. I didn't know about the Pet Partner's volunteering program, I think that's so cool! If something alike existed here, it'd give me the drive to fully train my dog and participate. But I'm a lazy loaf that whenever I teach him something, my family think it's cool and over stimulate him and somehow manage to confuse him and then he gets some things mixed up.He's so cute. When we go on our walks he likes running after quails and rabbits, but gets scared of cows. I'd love seeing deers, they must be so cute! Here in the south we have a little type of deer called Pudú, but they're very very shy. Thank you so much for the pancake recipe, I wanna try it out some weekend. Do you like them thick and spongy or thin as crepes? In my house we make them thin, filled with spinach or chicken in a roll and eat them for dinner topped with Bechamel, lol. Chileans don't eat pancakes for breakfast; instead, they like bread with avocado, scrambled eggs, ham, butter or mermelade... or dulce de leche. And coffee. We have tried making pancakes as shown on tv (except that we add dulce de leche... yummy), but we make them small and can't eat more that 2... how could people eat one bigger that the plate?! That's insane! Were you able to? When we've traveled to the US, we've all shared plates with my sisters, and still can't eat them whole. They once sold us a tower of fries at Burger King (actually it was part of the meal thingie), filling a whole tray. It was insane! We barely were able to eat 1/4th of them between 7.
u/MangoMeliss Thank you so much for such the adorable red ridding hood with her doggie. I love it so much. Reminds me of the years I was studying animation. I just love this style. I also loved your adventures in Holland. I'd love to visit there some day! Oh gosh, I just realized, after holding your postcard many times (because I adore it) that those phat kitty stickers are actually these memo paper things! Oh wow, hahaha, I'm laughing so much right now. I'll definetly use a couple to decorate cute things. Thank you so much for the Hello Kitty Valentine's, it makes me think in the little kids at school giving out these. I think that's cute. But do kids only write the to and from? Or they add little messages too? I've never celebrated it, it's fascinating knowing about these things. Also, thank you so much for the adorable washi samps. I'm copying your folding technique for the last bit, they look pretty and it's so practical! Oh, and last but not least (whatever that means, shoot, I need to study more English) I'm in love with the envelope and the Stitch you drew.
u/lonelytwatwaffle My dear waffle, I don't know why your cards took so long to arrive, but I've loved each one of them. I actually felt very touched to get a Christmas card with Mary in it and wishes to have a blessed Christmas. I wasn't expecting it! And it was a lovely holiday, my first ever cold one, away and relaxed, with my family and newborn nephew and not worrying about gifts, meetings, or things that just distract us of what is really important. We also, unexpectedly, met a huge group of spaniards living there and we sang carols in many languages and they stayed till very late and they were so noisy! It was sooo fun. Funny that since my sister came back from her exchange in Spain, she made us listen to villancicos sevillanos all year round, so we knew quite a lot, haha. By the way, I love your jigsaw puzzle ornament, I'll hang it this year. And I also loved the star's mischievous face, it's so adorable. Thank you so much.
u/suzilla10 (x2) Thank you so much for the Fernsehturm postcard. Many years ago I only got to see it from below, I was visiting with a huge group and there was a big parade and the city was chaotic, so the leaders decided to just walk around... a lot! I regret not buying postcards there, they were all so amazing I couldn't decide! So many types and just oh wow. Back then I would send them to myself. So I just spent all my money in cool magnets and yummy food. And still was so hard to pick! Haha. When I opened your surprise adventskalender-karte, all the amazing memories I had in Österreigh came back and brought me such a warm lasting feeling. I don't wanna ever forget those holidays. (Or the laughs I had at the sub the previous days of me searching for stamps like a madwoman while Santiago was getting destroyed by the protests, trying to get before the Germans bought everything). Last month I met the artist who designs the stamps, and she made such a cute one last year, that I obviously never knew its existance. (Well, also my post office, after the germans episodes never got stamps ever again, and she doesn't care at all). I also got to know how caotic is the system and how people who snail mail or collect stamps are seen as pieces of a museum that will eventually die into oblivion if it wasn't for the international groups that put money so stamps get printed. Oh man, I love your card and details so much. The stickers remind me of our many trips to Thalia with my sisters (we don't have anything as awesome as that here) and I would just walk around and dream I was buying everything. I wanna go back to Europe some dayyyy! Thank you so much, I love everything, I get so happy opening your envelope from time to time. I will definetly set up the advent calendar this year. I adored that when I visited in December, all these advent little things and presents, they were so cute and adorable, I NEED to do something like that this year, it brings me memories of my childhood. I used to love Advent. Ohhhh... holidays are looking more and more american here each year, and I just loved the european one so much better... it felt more familiar and authentic. Dude, we're getting malls installing snow machines to make it snow... in summer. Because now that's what xmass is about? Poor overdressed workers. This summer is going to be particularly hot and dry.
u/bananacreampiee Yay! I got your graduation card! Thank you so much! Funny how I would be graduated by now, but the internships were postponed so I technically finished college but need to do that to graduate-graduate... well, I'm not too worried about that, whatever has to happen will happen, I'm glad the worst part is over and the messy thesis is done. Still I can't believe I finally finished my studies... it's been a long and really hard journey! Lol, in my first sememster I visited Italy and met a priest while I was with my hopes impressively down on actually finishing something, so we made an exchange: he was going to pray for me, and if -by miracle at this point in life- I finished, I'd visit him and participate in his volunteering program. And he delivered it seems. For the first time ever I didn't fail any semester, which used to be impossible with my MH. I can't wait to contact him again, but I only remember his first name... and nothing else. And I have a picture with the family that invited us both to dinner (I met him there). I'll have to do some detective work. I still don't know how we managed to have such a deep and long conversation afterwards, he was speaking in Italian and I was in Spanish, and those years I couldn't understand a thing nor let myslef be understood, unless someone spoke Spanish or English.

Pics!
I have quite a lot of replies and exchanges that have remain unsent due to various reasons, so please, I'd be eternally greatful if you fill up my mailing list form. Specially if you've changed your address. C:

2020.08.31 05:51 ArmouredDragon Looking for Geronimo Stilton books in Russian

I was thinking it might be fun to pick up some Geronimo Stilton books in Russian. (These are books aimed at 6- to 12-year-olds, about a mouse that always unwillingly going on adventures; they have lots of pictures and decorated text, and might just provide enough context for me to puzzle out what is going on).
Here is the official website: https://geronimostilton.com/ . You can change your language at the bottom. If I go in in Russian, I see that the main character is named Джеронимо Стилтон and there are some books in Russian, such as "секретный агент оок". (ex. https://geronimostilton.com/portal/RU/ru/libri_top/collana.php?id=1629 )
When I try to google the title, Google unhelpfully translates it and shows me English results. I tried searching on Yandex but got lots pretty quickly -- my Russian isn't quite that good.
If I can find them, I'd like to buy a couple of paperbacks and ship them to Canada. I might consider ebooks, but I think I'd prefer physical copies.
