2024.05.15 07:32 The_hound_of_king Two Punjabi guys running donation scam

Two Punjabi guys came to my house and asked for donation in Indiranagar gurudwara. I couldn't say no because they said they are asking for lungar. But when they left, I translated their slip with Google translate and to my surprise it was some fake address in uttarakhand. Further digging up into this showed, they are running this scam across the country. So beware, they took my hard earned money.
They have this name: guru nanak ann kshetra bhandar haridwar
p.s. I have very high respect for Sikh community for lungaseva they do. The reason behind posting this is not to hurt sentiments but to alert people about how someone can take advantage of those feelings and cheat.

2024.05.15 06:55 JustFuckMeUp_ medsurg nurses - what are phrases you say commonly

I got the chance to use my VERY rusty spanish with a patient today and I was kind of frustrated that I couldn't communicate with her better because of my awful grammavocab. 😑 So... I gotta do better in the future!
Can y'all think of things that you say to everyone/phrases or words that are particularly helpful? e.g., "I have your meds, these are for your heart"
(Bonus points if you can tell me good things to say in Tagalog/Yoruba/Punjabi!!!!!!! And Spanish, of course. I will love you forever.)

2024.05.15 06:22 brownbreakdown Does anyone else feel like Sardars being popularized in recent years has actually been bad for Sikhi?

Controversial statement but I will explain. I feel like with figures like Sidhu and Diljit, it has almost become a trend to keep your kes and tie a turban amongst Punjabi youth. And while this should be a positive, I feel like it's for the wrong reasons. It feels like alot of Sardars tie paghs these days for fashion reasons, and rather tie it to Punjabi culture rather than Sikhi. And while I don't judge people for there choices, I also don't think there's ever been a time where there was this many Singhs that trim their beard, and I mention this because it goes back to people wearing Paghs for fashion reasons.
I guess what prompted me to make this post is that I grew up in Toronto, and growing up we always had a reputation for being the best group of people to be around. But nowadays, it feels like we're known for being rowdy and criminals, feels like every week there is a Sardar in the news for doing criminal activity.
It feels like none of the young sardars that come from Punjab to Canada care about Sikhi at all, Ego, Anger, and Greed is at an all time high in this generation. Majority of of them have no connection to the spiritual side of Sikhi. What's the point of being a Sikh on the outside if you aren't one on the inside.
So the reason I say it's bad is because I feel like alot of those that are Sikhs on the outside but don't adhere to any Sikh principles, are just giving Sikhs a negative image now. Keeping your kes and tieing a turban is a massive responsibility, but I feel like most don't treat it like a responsibility anymore.

2024.05.14 18:25 6student Current Mrs. Sodhi is the worst actor of TMKOC.

Her forced Punjabi accent just pisses me off, feels like she's trying to be cute even though she is not.
I know some people will say it's current Tapu, even though it's bad but he's still young and has chance of improvement in future. Ashit just made it worse by making him do that stunt to catch the culprit of the Sonu & Holi arc. & honestly not as bad as Mrs. Sodhi.
Some people will say current Sodhi, he just does over acting sometimes, trying to be angry in small small matters, obviously Ashit or writer made him to do it.
Some people will say current Tarak, maybe he isn't as good as old Tarak but he isn't that bad also. (I just hate his outro). People just used to old Tarak & miss the old Tarak, so hate current Tarak. It's not current Tarak's fault, it's Ashit's fault.

2024.05.14 10:51 WernHofter It's not just people vs army thing in "A" JK

I'm from "A"JK and I don't believe I am Kashmiri so don't come at me with that (it's an identity imposed on us by our occupiers and few people fall for it). I'm not a chauvinist so I have nothing against Punjabi working class and I do know even they are living miserably but there are a lot of comments here by people from Pakistan who are saying its just army vs people thing and thats completely wrong. The whole movement is more than a year old and even before that it was there but not as widespread and whole logic behind the demand is that we have the first right over the waters and since the territory is disputed the wheat should be subsidied. You will get a lot of comments that we are just freeloaders, but that's something every capitalist and every colonizer says, and when you comment shit like that, it shows. People here always knew about the nature of the Pakistani army (see 1955 Poonch Uprising entry on Wikipedia because I know your state deliberately keeps you ignorant about the reality of J&K). It's a new thing for you guys who learned about it after the Imran Khan fiasco. It's high time for you guys to get off your high horses and recognize the reality and support us otherwise like you did with Pushtoons and Baloch ("wo haramkhor hain") people, you will further alienate yourself

2024.05.14 01:53 DepartureHonest7948 The Uncompromising Blissful Extravagance of His Presence!

CMM.World & CMMTheology.org
The Great Harvest is here. Christ's Mandate for Missions and CMMTheology build strong, organic relationships globally as we worship, grow and equip together. Like Joshua and Caleb and the Apostle Paul, we see with faith what He sees in each person (to help each reach fullness), group (many streams and backgrounds in unity) and nations (sheep vs. goat nations). Our passion is to love, connect, equip and send with the simplicity, fullness, and power of the Gospel.
The Uncompromising Blissful Extravagance of His Presence! Inbox
By CMM.World CMMTheology.org - November 10, 2022
Dear Mighty One,
I see the Lord's eye upon us we discover by revelation the 'new thing' He is doing in our lives and of those of us who, beyond the present darkness, gaze into His eyes. The 'tuning fork' of Yahweh is orchestrating the sons and daughters of our living God in growing holy remnant unity to withstand as we stand with Him fearlessly in the boldness of the faith of God in this hour. Egypt is behind us, and the covenantal promises and prophetic words we have received (1 Tim. 1:18) empower us by His Holy Spirit to advance in warfare, humbly growing in the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

Yesterday as I encouraged some friends, I said, 'stay in the blissful extravagance of His presence.' Today I saw in Psalm 34 His eyes are upon us in vs. 8 & 9 and v:15 about the 'uncompromisingly righteous.' We are to be holy as He is holy. That leaves no room for any more compromise or seeking to please man or the traditions of men, being free of the fear of man, the religious spirit, and any demonic activity. We are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. Lord, help us understand by revelation to walk in all the authority we have been given by Jesus Christ.
Psalm 34:8-9 'O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him. O fear the Lord, you His saints [revere and worship Him]! For there is no want to those who truly revere and worship Him with godly fear.'
v. 15 'The eyes of the Lord are toward the [uncompromisingly] righteous and His ears are open to their cry.'

We are rejoicing! We just celebrated two of our six schools' graduations on June 4th in the US and June 11th in Ecuador and we thank the Lord for all He has done in their lives and will do in this new era. We honor the faith in action of each of the seventy-eight students (in the USA and Ecuador schools this year)of all ages and from different streams and backgrounds. We thank the Lord for the hunger, perseverance and faith to finish strong. Each one encountered the Lord in fresh new ways as their hunger and perseverance in faith reaped eternal change as evidenced in their dissertations and heavenly encounters. In the last few months we have graduated 196 students from our global schools. All glory to the Lord as we enter our 16th year of offering affordable, life changing accredited degrees around the world. Prophetic Encouragement for 2022 By Jorge Parrott (all scriptures NKJV) (Graphic art by Nancy G. Daniel) Despite the impending wars, division, chaos, calamity, and deceptive controls we hear the voice of our Lord at times speaking, or roaring, or whispering, and breathing on the sons of God. Are we listening yet? Heaven’s roar is clear to those with an ear to hear what the Spirit of the Living God is saying. This year holds untold opportunities, many answered prayers, and the cries of many hearts if we arise to walk obediently in His fullness, not growing weary in well-doing, nor fainting in the heat of this fiery battle. Deut. 6:4 ‘ The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.’ Jesus was asked many questions. As we press into the high calling of Jesus Christ and we grow in intimacy and trust by faith, His love, grace, and mercy unfold in surprising ways. I had not been to Israel since 2017. So much has changed in the world since then as we see the tremendous acceleration of the times and seasons. Chaos, control, and corruption are increasing at an alarming rate. 2024.05.13 07:43 Reasonable-Life7087 Anand Karj - My suggestion for Maryada

I see a lot of times Anand Karj is done just to add “authenticity” (i.e. culture) to Punjabi Weddings. In many cases, neither bride nor groom know anything of Sikhs except that want their wedding done by Guru Granth Sahib because they want to add cultural flavor to their big day celebrations, appease their parents, or both. One piece that gets missed is that Guru Granth Sahib is the center in Anand Karj sanskar, not the bride and groom.
My suggestion to add weight to this sanskar:
The goal is to weed out those who have no faith and are just disrespecting Guru Granth Sahib, and set up some learning goal for Bride and Groom so they will at least learn the basics before they setup new family.
Someone might say that this might reduce number of people using Anand Karj for their weddings. My question to them is if 1) we are in the business of selling this ceremony that we don’t want this number to dip or 2) why do you force the ceremony on those who aren’t religious but are appeasing their parents.
I’m open for learning if I am reading current situation incorrectly.

2024.05.12 15:59 navistheman WhatsApp group for learning Punjabi

I have made a WhatsApp group for learning Punjabi, if anyone is interested in joining.
This is for anyone interested in learning, teaching, and practicing Punjabi. The goal is to create a friendly, focused Punjabi language-learning community, where people can ask questions and share knowledge.
I am currently trying to learn Punjabi; I would say my knowledge is intermediate / below-intermediate, and my progress recently has been quite stop-start; I have quite a busy schedule with work and sports :( Also, maybe I am just getting lazy.
WhatsApp is personally more convenient for me, because I find it easier to navigate than Discord, and more convenient to use, whilst on the move. Discord is good, but I find it can get a bit "messy" - discussions on there often get sidetracked into talking about other things (in English) - which maybe undermines the language-learning aspect somewhat.
Anyone is welcome to join, regardless of their ability. Here is the link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/BqHUUPo7Drw6s4hTKXAiWl

2024.05.11 16:33 Aun786 25 [M4F] Mumbai - Looking for Something Special

Hi, I'm Aunali, I'm a mechanical engineer in Mumbai, current working full-time in Mumbai. I'm pretty much stuck in a rut in life, which I'm finding a way out of slowly and steadily and figured it's about time to stop living in the past and actually look for someone to share my life with.
I'm going to be brutally honest, because I know 25 might be early for someone to start thinking about future and shit, but I'm looking long term if we get along, maybe even go the distance. The entire concept of casual and we'll see how it goes isn't lost on me, obviously if we don't get along it's not going to work, but I'd much prefer if you were already in the mindset of trying something out for a bit before just waking up one day and carpet bombing the entire idea altogether. If it don't work, it don't work, but if it does, give it a chance to grow before making up your mind.
About me, fairly average, looks and otherwise. I'm 6', maybe a little taller, but height is no boundary. I've recently started going to the gym, just losing weight, no body building shit. I just got my driving license, so long drives are a go, full steam ahead. I love the sea, I spend as much time with it as possible, but the sea can't love you back, so here we are. I like reading, the habit dropped off for a while but I'm getting back into it, just light stuff, fiction for the most part. I love football, but I won't force it on you especially since my team is in the shits, so it's a sore topic and I prefer not to talk about it. I also love F1, which makes for much better watching when cuddled up, so I'm always down for that over the weekends.
I'm fairly vanila when it comes to TV shows and movies, I'm more likely to go back and re-watch something like Dexter or Breaking Bad than actually watch something new. If you're a fan of anything Japanese/Korean we'll get on well, because I play a lot of games originally made in those languages so I understand them well. Trying to get into their TV shows too, but only managed Squid Games so far. [Yes, I know I'm a basic bitch, but I genuinely am clueless in this regard. Recommendations are welcome!]
Music is a big thing for me, kind of a go to place when everything is going to shit. I have loads of playlists for loads of different scenarios, which I'm sure you'll enjoy even if it isn't exactly up your street. Cigarettes After Sex, Tame Impala, Lewis Capaldi are regular features, but there's also some Hindi/Punjabi sprinkled through for them window down, hair in your face long drives to subtly suggest a romantic undertone while I struggle to make a move because I'm too caught up in my own head about whether or not to do so.
What I'm looking for? Genuinely, nothing specific. Someone between 22-25 would be ideal, but feel free to reach out irrespective of age, it's just a number after all. Looks wise, I couldn't care less, if I love you, to me you're always going to be the most beautiful person in the world. I'd prefer someone who's open to communicate, even if you're not sure how to say what you want to say, just talk and we'll make sense of it. Like I said, I'm looking long term so I'd rather you're in the same mindset too. I know testing the waters is important, and I'm more than happy to give it time to see how things progress, but my request is you be willing to do the same or atleast openly communicate if in the first few days you realise this isn't what you're looking for. Honesty goes a long way with me, irrespective of the outcome.
Anything else, just hit me up and ask. No need for a long message listing everything about you, a simple 'hey' will suffice. If you tell me everything about you in the first paragraph, what will we talk about? 'he says after writing five paragraphs about himself'
I'm pretty much an open book as long as you ask me whatever you want to know, sordid dating past and sordid current state alike.
Like I mentioned, I'm looking for something long term if we do click, so it'd be preferable if you're in Mumbai. Long distance isn't out of the question, but as long as you're willing to provide some wiggle room for things to settle in before we evaluate where we are. I'm not saying I'll move to where you live within a month of us talking for the first time, but I can still come see you so we can spend some time together in person too.
I think this is enough ramble for you to make up your mind, if it isn't you know where to find me :)

2024.05.11 15:15 Throwawaysikhwoei AITAH for not wanting to hook up with her when I found out she’s Muslim?

I’m a British Punjabi guy from a Sikh background. Although my background is Sikh, I can’t say I’m religious, but I am culturally Sikh. Anyway I drink, smoke etc and go out and do all that stuff.
A few nights ago I hit it off with this girl when I was out. I just assumed she was Punjabi or Hindu, her first name didn’t sound Muslim. Anyway as we are clearly getting into each other we make out etc and after go to smoking area. When we talk more I find out she’s actually Pakistani Muslim.
This was immediate turn off for me. I’ve always been a bit way of Muslim girls (I have slept witn them before but they’re usually Persian or some type of Arab), but she was Pakistani Muslim. It was just such a turn off for me, I couldn’t imagine getting with a Pakistani Muslim. So I found a way to say I need to go find my friend and then basically left her
I told my other friends (also Punjabi) and most said it was fine except our one black friend who said that was really bad and that I’m an AH. The thing is, I don’t think he understand the history between India and Pakistan, especially Muslim rule over Sikhs. AITA?

2024.05.11 04:02 Realistnotarealtor When do the protests begin. I’m ready to protest like folks are for Gaza. Blocking every road, camping out at universities. The government continues to spit on the face of Canadians amidst our housing crisis. Now they want to make the millions of people they brought PR’s?

This Liberal NDP federal government is the most anti Canadian anti middle class government. They do nothing that is in the interest of Canadians. Nothing to benefit Canadians. I truly mean this when I say this. Fuck Marc Miller and fuck Sean Fraser. Today this idiot after teasing something the entire nation wanted (REDUCED IMMIGRATION) decided to pull his penis out and piss on the entire nation. They’ve decided they’re going to make the millions of people they brought PR’s. Some of these people are scammers (all the students using food banks) and those with fake papers/no funds, some of them are full blown criminals (The Indian guys we now know came as students and killed Hardeep Singh in Canada).

We’re such a joke of the country even the Indian politicians are clowning us. Here’s Indias foreign minister mocking Canada saying we let in criminals. He’s not lying. They’re apparently wanted in India.
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/canada-welcomes-criminals-india-says
Every politician supporting mass immigration needs to be publicly humiliated and fired. There is no benefit to any Canadian to experience this. Our cost of housing has increased, our birth rates are lowering even with this again as a result of the increased demand on cost of living (housing). Our economy and country as a whole are becoming non-productive. We the Canadian people want a fucking referendum. You do not for some esoteric reason in your head after hitting a crack pipe get to flood our country with more people than any western nation has seen in over half a century and then say they’re already here. Give them permanent residency. No these people are here as students at bullshit programs. They complete their studies they came for and they go home. Fuck loblaws. Fuck metro. Fuck McDonald’s. Fuck Tim Hortons and fuck any company lobbying to get these people PR’s for low wages. We are on our way to turning into a South American nation.

For anyone who doesn’t believe me. What is the difference between a Brazilian favela and a Brampton one? In a Brazilian favela 20 people don’t share a basement and one bathroom. We do not have a labour shortage that was a lie. We do not need 1M international students to build homes that was a lie. They all went into Tim hortons stirring and Uber. We sure as hell do not need to give illegals and these students PR. They are of no use to Canada in any way shape or form. They are unskilled, culturally divisive. We share no similarities . Has anyone seen the ads people from India are putting up. Indian girl only Punjabi, vegetarian. In CANADA. Indian girl only Gujarati, vegetarian. What the fuck.
Then we have this. Illegals. People here illegally not only putting increased demand on our housing. We the Canadian people are paying for this. We paid $769M alone for this in 2023. Our Canadian tax dollars that that could’ve went to improving Canada you know building more hospitals, houses. Infrastructure spent on this shit.
https://torontosun.com/news/national/free-hotel-rooms-meals-for-refugee-applicants-reportedly-cost-769m-in-2023
Then we have illegals overstaying their visas in Canada with no health insurance, asking Canadians to cover their medical costs to the tune of $90,000 alone for this one man. What the fuck is going on in Canada. Enough is enough. His dream of a better life should include Mexico covering his medical bill because he’s a MEXICAN here illegally and a deportation back to his home country.
https://toronto.citynews.ca/2024/05/09/uninsured-patient-major-hospital-bills-ontario-legs-amputated/
Here’s another slap in your faces and mine as well. Canadian newcomers will get free passes to parks as part of the new budget. We as Canadians including seniors the people paying for these people to get free access have to pay for access. I should’ve been an illegal. Whenever you’re all ready announce a date and time I’m there. Enough is fucking enough. Fuck these people from Justin Tredeau to Sean Fraser to Doug Ford to Pollievre and all the other premiers pushing for this amidst our current housing crisis. They have bankrupted the country and they’re trying to drive the Canadian middle class into feudalism and an early grave.

2024.05.09 05:01 Ranting_S Does anyone else get annoyed at how one-note and simplified people view Desi cuisine?

I grew up in Alberta, which is like the Texas of Canada, so this might be why I've experienced more of this, but growing up a lot of people thought Indian food was just 'curry' and either rice or 'naan bread'.
Meanwhile they can name dozens of different pasta varieties and a bunch of different styles of barbecue.
A lot of people even say they don't like Indian food because they think it's just 'curry' with chunks of meat in it, and that it all tastes the same. You'd never see people say Italian food is just 'sauce' and 'noodle bread' or 'flat bread'.
What annoys me the most is the word 'curry', which is an artificial construct invented by the British who needed a lazy catch-all to describe the rich diversity of the thousands of different dishes made by the hundreds of different cultures in the subcontinent.
First off, 'curry' is not a word in any Indian language, the average Indian would have no idea what you're saying. If I asked my mom to make me 'curry' she'd be very confused. The closest thing in Indian cuisine that sounds like 'curry' is Punjabi Karhi, which isn't the spicy dish most people think of when you say 'curry'.

2024.05.08 17:18 melancholynyc My experience shopping in Mumbai/India FYI for ABDs/NRIs

Pros: tons of variety. I went to Edison a couple months ago to see if India was worth it and tbh it wasn’t bad! Price wise and selection wise. If I was in a pinch, I would be happy buying from there. But if you’re looking for something different and have the time, India is a better overall price wise and it’s India - anything and everything goes. If you want something off the rack, then you can get it asap (assuming it fits perfectly). If you need it tailored, add another 1-3 days depending. If you want it even more customized, then add another week or so. If you want something you can’t find in stores or it’s too expensive, then you can get your own fabric and have a tailor make it for you however you like. Goes without saying but the quality and the heavier or more elaborate the design, the price will go up regardless of where it’s bought from. I was only in Mumbai but I’ve hears the price is even better in Surat or Ahmedabad (Gujarat is where lots of textiles come from so makes sense) and New Dehli is cheap too. Pricing is relative though so cheap for me maybe different for you. Bridal dress can range from $500 (market) to $10,000 (ie: sabyasachi). But i was looking for max $1,000 and I’m happy with my purchase quality and price wise as it’s pretty heavy (7kg) and detailed. Not the exact colors I was looking for (maroon and light green - instead it was maroon and forest green which I’m coming around on lol). Reception dresses can be again the same wide range so pricing overall depends on quality, location, brand and the amount of work that goes into it. Beading will usually cost you more as it requires hands to make it vs a pattern which a machine can make.
Cons: Be prepared to buffer in time to actually shop. Traffic is brutal. So I would highly suggest staying near where you plan on shopping. Rickshaws are good options on shopping days and they move faster than cars since they can squeeze in between cars and save time. Definitely get a rental car or OLA/Uber on pick up days since bridal clothes are just so big and heavy. Be prepared for the Indian shopping mentality. Every single store will have a customized or personalized shopping experience. Like you’re not going to see bunch of lenghas and just pick what you like. You may be able to if a store hangs their stuff but usually the Indian shopping experience includes a person or 2 to guide you into showing their collection. Be prepared to feel a bit fatigued if you’re looking for something specific and aren’t finding it. It may take the salesperson some time to find something similar (likely won’t be an exact match) and be very open to trying something that you may not have thought to try initially. Mumbai is a safe city overall but it can be a bit jarring to walk into a store and there are 10 men at least who are just standing there. That’s because each person will help in a different area (ie: bridal lenghas, punjabi suits, indo western). There will be a lady to help you in the dressing room to put blouses on. My mom came with me but usually stores have a lady to help and they’re very strict about no photos. Of course once you make a payment, highly recommend taking a pic so while the outfit gets tailored you can shop for matching jewelry.
Tips: - I suggest paying half the total amount for anything you need tailored because unfortunately if you pay in full, they will take their time to tailor your outfits. - Always lie about when you need outfits and lie about your departure date so they have a sense of urgency to get your outfits ready. - Wear clothes that are loose and easy to remove (ie leggings and a tank top) as you will be trying lots of clothes on. - Bring 2 people if you can with you to give their opinion or advice. Make sure your accompanying persons are on the same page with your dealbreakers or non-negotiables so that they don’t confuse the salesperson. - Always negotiate if it’s not a brand store. Even if stores say you can’t- it’s a lie lol if you really want something and a store won’t budge, then it’s your choice. I was able to get a dress half of their fake sticker price. The bigger brand stores won’t negotiate though (manish malhotra, pernia’s, roopkala). - Bring someone local if you can who knows the language and the song and dance in the art of conversation when shopping. You can of course be direct at any time if the shop just doesn’t have what you’re looking for but you also don’t want to be rude especially in a foreign country as a woman in a store full of men.
Sorry if I missed anything but feel free to AMA about my trip!

2024.05.08 07:40 AcanthaceaeFormal109 How do I respectfully request someone to give me a call in Punjabi?

I would like to send a message to a friends mum who doesn’t speak any English, only Punjabi. How do I say “hello (their name), could you please have (my friends name) call me. There are important things I need to discuss. Thank you.” Something along those lines, in a respectful and polite manner. ☺️

2024.05.08 01:12 bangkokdajatt Sikhi in Thailand, a very assimilated culture / Do you think the legalization of carrying Kirpans would be possible?

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, I'm (17M) a Punjabi Sehajdhari Sikh, born in Thailand and a Thai citizen, my family's history of moving to Thailand happened during Partition. Apparently, there about 100,000 Sikhs living in Thailand, though I would like to add that I'd say 20%+ of those 100 are Namdharis. the migration began in the late 19th century and Sikhs have been here for 100+ years and we are the majority of Indians living in Thailand, though that is slowly changing, there is an issue though, Sikhs here are very and I mean very assimilated, especially my generation, I can easily say that 80%+ of Sikh born boys here have cut their Kes, and if they havent cut their kes they keep it tied up in a gutti behind their head like a girl, the rest tie a patka, not a pagg. Most Sikhs here speak Thai and Hindi, not Punjabi, and their Hindi is also very whitewashed. I grew up with the same culture as them, knowing essentially nothing about Sikhi or even India as I was placed in a International School, but around a year ago I was so disconnected from my culture and felt so out of place that I somehow got hooked onto my culture and I slowly fell deeper into first India, Indian Culture and eventually Sikhi, Punjab and all that though I believe what happened was a very rare case as this also happened to a lot of my friends and that just wound up with them cutting their kes and they never go Gurdwara and I mean never, there is about one Nagar Kirtan about every 10+ years. Whenever I do go to the Gurdwara, the majority are people over 30, who just go for social reasons. In my city's Gurdwara there are barely any sevadars too, for langar the food is buffet style which has a mixture of Thai food too and the chefs are paid workers and there are janitors who are also paid. Anyways, I want to become an Amritdhari one day, I don't believe I'm ready yet but hopefully one day I will be, and the issue is the Kirpan. I love the concept of a Kirpan itself don't get me wrong, but it is illegal in , I've only ever seen about 10 Singhs here with a kirpan, that too under their cloth and they're the Granthis who likely just came from India. Sikhs have a good relationship with the people, police here don't check if you're drunk at night if they see you're a Sikh, which seeing the Sikhs here is a mistake imo as they only connect they have to their culture is the amount they drink, anyways, Sikhi is recognized as its own religion here and have Gurdwaras have good relation with the King, though again. As the Sikhs who came from India here a long time ago were more businessmen, they never really were Amritdharis/Nihangs/Kharkus, other places who Singhs went to in the 80s like Canada to escape the India so there was never really a strong Sikh community here, I don't want to ever move from Thailand as well my whole life is here and I plan to make business here so I want to make Kirpans legal, any advice? This Sunday, I will be asking some people at the Gurdwara for their thoughts and ask if they can do anything. Thank you for reading. TDLR; 100,000 Sikhs in Thailand yet are very assimilated and have disconnect to their roots, no sevadars at Gurdwara, Teens don't speak Punjabi etc. Only India wale Granthis have Kirpan, though Sikhs have good relations with govt. and king, wanting to amritchakna one day so any advice on what to do if wishing to legalize carrying Kirpan.

2024.05.07 23:28 Letscallitadayagain Stage 2: Let's talk about our ideas and iron our requests

Hey, so it seems pretty clear that a good chunk of Canadians across the country are opposing several current policies especially around housing, rising cost of living and mass immigration.
I think we should start ironing out our ideas, solutions and make a path for protesting.
Below are points of what I think are our conversations. We need to translate them into specific requests we agree on. I think we should also consider this possibly becoming a global movement. That may sound insane but numbers are even stronger in Ireland, as well as other countries. If we band together, our voices would be impossible to ignore.
What We Agree On: There are a lot of serious problems in the western world and especially Canada which are immediately threatening our long term prosperity.
I think we should do this in stages that are clearly laid out so we better our chances of obtaining all goals, which is to increase our quality of life and secure long term prosperity for ourselves, families and future loved ones.
My suggestion is: Pause, Drain, Obtain (*note: not, overthrow, obviously).
Stage 1- Pause: Significantly slow down immigration
Stage 2- Drain: Make current immigrants living here, more incentivized to leave (No longer able to have subsidised wages for example, no longer able to compete with Canadians, Canadian first policies in hiring practices, having to prove more intensely an inability to fill their positions, etc)
Stage 3- Obtain (Canadian power back in the people rather than corporations): Approaching solutions for housing, fair wages, healthcare, etc.-
These problems we have, have been exacerbated by immigration (but not only BECAUSE of immigration) which include:
(a) Housing
Core Issue: Lack of housing, lack of affordable housing and lack of quality housing
i) Immigrants flooding the rental Canadian markets, leaving Canadians unable to find any home (physically flooded). Housing not being built accordingly to handle the influx
ii) Immigrants flooding the rental markets, allowing landlords to price gouge, leaving Canadians unable to afford a home (financially flooded)
iii) Landlords taking advantage of immigrants, allowing them to ignore law and creating living standards that are of significant low quality and pushing Canadians into the same situation
iv) Immigrants discriminating against Canadians in favour of housing with others of their background (“punjabi only”- etc) and creating conditions that do not follow Canadian law
(b) Healthcare
Core Issue: Lack of healthcare, lack of healthcare professionals (in certain areas), long wait times, overworked staff and inability to properly access medical assistance.
i) Immigrants coming immediately to Canada and are able to access healthcare without properly contributing (Canadian has been paying in for 40 years but newcomer has been paying 6 months, yet is able to use services, get on waitlists, etc.)
ii) Healthcare system now being in a collapsed state, resulting in Canadians failing to receive adequate care and often dying prematurely as a result. Doctors extremely difficult to get, waitlists growing rapidly, being allowed to bring their families and our system, often favouring children/pregnant women.
(c) Job Market
Core Issue: Businesses and corporations, hiring immigrants to suppress Canadian wages and push them into poverty
  1. Employers exploiting Temporary Worker programs in fields that do not NEED temporary works, so they gain a hire profit through employing people who accept poverty wages
  2. International Students working off campus, working 20 hours, working more than 20 hours, working multiple jobs, working full time, working under the table instead of studying
  3. International Students being allowed to stay in Canada despite not having a field which is in shortage in Canada
  4. International Students/foreigners being allowed to compete with Canadians for jobs- ESPECIALLY after a Canadian has obtained any higher education
  5. International Students/foreigners taking jobs from young Canadians, disabled Canadians, elderly Canadians or Canadians who are in vulnerable circumstances
  6. Foreigners having government positions. I think we should talk about this, moreso in terms of the recent influx. Why should a foreigner who came here five years ago that has the same credentials as a CANADIAN, who has been here since the day they were born, be able to work for the CANADIAN government without any special skills and receive such a strong salary, benefits and security? Canadians first.
  7. Foreigners discriminating in their hiring, only hiring those with the same background
  8. Government subsidizing any foreigner wages besides absolutely needed fields which we need to discuss.
  9. International Students using ANY loophole after their student visa to work and then getting PR, without being an actual needed job (examples of not needed fields: fast food workers, restaurant workers of any kind, ubetaxi drivers, skip)
(d) Quality of Immigration
  1. Background checks not being thoroughly performed, high tolerance for unlawful behavior- Fraudulent, exploitative, low trust and scamming (example: the Brampton loans)
  2. Allowing families to come which do not contribute to Canadian society; inviting for example grandparents when healthcare is already at its maximum.
  3. Background checks not being thoroughly reviewed, resulting in cultural clashes, violence and rise of crime (draining food banks, not being deported upon their crimes, being released back into Canadian society, etc)
  4. Immigrants failing to speak good English or French. If they’re unable to speak basics (as in, I understand them to first time they speak and don’t need to ask for clarification constantly), how can we expect them to contribute? There needs to be a language standard.
(e) General Security: Who We Are Inviting and Keeping Around
a) Inviting millions of young men without an education, without any global experience, with a demonstrated sense of entitlement (protesting they deserve more), with a disregard to women and children.
b) Inviting millions of young people who have shown us that they’re impressionable (came here despite OVERWHELMING information about the state of Canada, yet believed it would be fine), willing to speak up even when they are not legally allowed (multiple protests), who are happy to do whatever it takes to get their way (scamming, fraudulent behavior)
c) Giving PR out with barely credentials needed. These people later have children who later become voters.
d) Allowing newcomers to protest; by failing to stop these gatherings and follow through on Canadian law, they’re showing them that Canadian law can be ignored. It will escalate.
e) Possible insufficient background checks or fraudulent documents
2. The government is ignoring Canadian voices especially younger demographics (45 below) and instead prioritising corporations and immigrants.
Core Issue: Government showing strong preference for foreign population instead of Canadian population
(a) Jobs
(b) Housing
(c) Social Assistance
(d) Media
(e) Corruption of Education
International Students
  1. Should International Students be allowed to work? If so, how many hours a week and on or off campus?
  2. What should the amount be for international students to prove they can sustain themselves?
  3. What should the guidelines be after the student permit is done? Can they compete with Canadians or do they go home?
  4. What kind of institutions should get a study permit and should study permits be limited annually?
Foreign Workers
  1. What fields should foreign workers be able to receive a work permit for?
  2. Should Canadians introduce a similar system to the TN Visa or H1-B?
  3. When/who should be able to get PR?
Unlawful Behaviour
  1. What should the happen when an immigrant is caught breaking the law? Should they follow the same protocols as Canadians? Should they lose some status? Should they not get a trial (tax) and be deported instead?
2) Should birthright citizenship be allowed?
3) What about people trying to claim asylum?
How You Can Contribute:
  1. Voice your opinion. Literally to anyone, anywhere. The more people that speak, the more it will get the conversation going. If you aren’t comfortable speaking, then read and join the sub- so we know you’re here. Power in numbers.
  2. Get educated. If you want to make a difference, you need to learn what you’re talking about and what your opponents are saying too. This sub is MANY people from MANY backgrounds of the entire political spectrum, backgrounds and ethnicities, etc.
  3. Write to your MP and/or larger party and voice your concerns. The more we press, the greater the pressure.
  4. Put up messages in your local neighbourhood about these concerns and what speaks to you. It can be about housing, groceries, healthcare and opposing mass immigration. These messages are then reaching people who don’t know about us- especially demographics that are younger or older.
  5. Contribute your ideas. Good or bad, we want to hear them. The more we talk and figure solutions out, the closer we are to a peaceful, sustained movement.
How I Could Use Your Help
  1. If you have feedback: add it. Whether general comments or for this body
  2. If you have sources that would help educate people on what is going on, share it. Even if others disagree, we need to start learning more about all this. Critical thinking matters
  3. It might also be in our benefit, if others feel the same way I do, to begin getting in contact with other subs who are discussing the same issue internationally.

2024.05.07 21:24 Throwawayethnicfjt Why do desi girls get a bad rep here?

Genuine Q
I’m a British born Punjabi in my 20s. I see a lot of rhetoric here where people shit on desi girls. Here in the UK, most punjabi girls go for other Punjabi guys. In fact, more of them are beginning to rebel against their parents and go for Hindu guys.
I know and have known a lot of desi girls and at university yeah many of them will hook up with white guys, but it’s almost never at the exclusion of desis. Same goes for desi guys, they will go for white girls at uni but it’s not like they exclude desi girls. Once desi men and women get to their mid 20s, they tend to prefer their own much more than any other race
In fact I would go as far as saying that people really overestimate white guys, I’ve met a lot of desi girls who will outright not go for white guys at all and say they’re not into them. These same girls will go for desi guys but also be into black and mixed guys
Is it really that different in the US? Maybe you guys have a much weaker desi community because here it’s so different. But tbh I have family in America and have visited and the desi girls there don’t even seem bad. One of my cousins from here hit it off with an American desi girl at a wedding and now they’re married
