2024.05.14 15:56 ojarsberzins We need to talk about homelessness...

I think on the cusp of our nation hitting a 5% unemployment rate it's important we talk about this...
Homeless people are not deemed as "human" by most of the populous.
With close to 30% of NZers living paycheck to paycheck I think it's an imperative we realize a lot of us are at risk... for me. I'll be alright. I come from an upper middle class family who can always have me live with them, if times are tough. But there are a huge amount of us who can't.
Drugs seem to be a contentious point for many. I think this is a good time to remind you that rich people statistically do as many drugs as poor people. They just have a home in which to hide it better. (Notably with the AUT study which suggested south auckland had less drugs in their system, compared to the rest of the country)
If I were to put myself in their shoes (hypothetically), I can see myself turning to drugs pretty easily. If it's prescription or not.
If the majority of people homeless interact with already deem them inhuman, I would turn to vices faster.
So this is your reminder. Treat all homeless with respect because that might be you or a loved one pretty darn soon.
For the record, I'm still in support of giving them a pie rather than straight cash. But if you do see someone drinking on the street, I probably would too if I had no one else to go to, and I'd be alienated from society...

2024.05.14 15:41 Hamstring994 Do you change therapists simply because your values/poltics don’t align?

I’ve been seeing a therapist for several years now, started in July 2020, and it’s been helpful over these years. However, in our most recent session wherein we discussed dating and issues surrounding that, a comment was made that just made my face cringe and left me feeling very uncomfortable. I was pleading my case about how difficult it can be to find someone to connect with in an organic way, and I’m not sure how we ended up at the comment, but it was this “women are under attack now more than every, especially since the reversal of Roe v Wade.” She furthered her point that women are waiting longer than ever to have kids, with some waiting till 30+.
I responded in some disjointed way (I was genuinely caught off guard) about how culture is the true issue, and we use to have a society that valued family’s and family formation. I also made a comment stating that it feels like, for millennials and younger generations, that we stretch the “childhood” phase well past what is healthy and good for ourselves, I.e. young men and women still partying/drinking/not taking on responsibilities well into their late 20s. I didn’t want to get into an argument right at the tale end of our session, but internally outright rejected the notion she was putting forward that (here’s my internal thoughts) because we have to be more selective on when we have sex and who we do the deed with, that this is an attack on women. Just feels like a very old “sexual liberation” trope on her part.
I’ve never had a strong stance on this issue. I’d likely fall into the 16 week ban camp if pressed on it, but regardless of my direct opinion, I felt very indirectly judged for even having such a thought. I noticed myself becoming uncomfortable as we talked about the next meeting, and I found myself arguing to myself about this as I drove home, and it made me question if I should even go back.
I understand abortion is a complex issue in modern America, and so I didn’t appreciate her outright dismissal of the thought that maybe there is some good coming in the form of saving millions of lives and generating millions of new families. The way she framed it as an “attack on women” just made me feel very out of place.
I’m wondering if anyone has found themselves in a values/politics mismatch, whether on this topic or another, and how you proceeded?? I want to, and plan to go back, but I’m wondering if I need to clear the air now.

2024.05.14 15:37 HistoryFreak_91 A ode to Sumeru

With Cyno's second story quest incoming (it's still not time where I live), I've got all hyped up for Sumeru once again and felt the need to share my most heartfelt love for the region now that Fontaine's whole arc is over.
Sumeru is my favorite region and favorite story overall. The characters are so intricate, genuinely smart in so many different ways and the writers went all out to show us personalities with real depth and haven't missed one spot (except, maybe, for Dori but she's the exception, I would say). Tighnari, Collei, Cyno and then Alhaitham, Nahida, Kaveh but also Layla Faruzan and Wanderer, they all have such amazing and complex personalities, showing strong and weak sides alike, making them flawed and therefore beautiful.
I won't argue that characters like Neauvilette, Furina and Wriothesly are equally nuanced but it's thanks to the seeds they planted in Sumeru (get it?) that we managed to have such well developed personalities and I will argue that Sumeru is still undefeated regarding overall character depth.
With this said, Sumeru's story is just absurdly sad and touches on so many topics: racism, the place of art in a land of scientific knowledge, street smarts vs academic smarts and how to be both (or neither), the value of childhood and dreams, both in a metaphorical and physical sense, hive mind mentality (which is multiple times addressed all over the game), the cycle of life and death and men's relationship with nature (Withering and desertification). It touches and develops on so many topics and has done it in such a diluted way that I took no effort in taking it all in.
Granted, Sumeru has had a huge problem with pacing for its main story. Dialogues were too long (Nahida still undefeated in dialogue strings after almost a whole version update with no appearances since... I don't know? A long time) and sometimes the story just drifted to some side notes that could be left for some character story or just some mid version update. Thankfully, Fontaine solves much of this pacing problem and I'd argue it was already getting better by the time we received Sumeru characters' stories. I'd distrust anyone who hasn't shed at least one single tear at Tighnari's story quest. Just thinking about it breaks my heart. And what about Cyno's? And Dehya's? Or even Kaveh's hangout? We were shown so much of their personalities and the people around them and made us feel like we were in connection not only with their inner world but also with what was around them.
One more mention goes to the music. Gods, the music. As much as I enjoy the whole soundtrack of Genshin Impact, Sumeru's sonorities and instrumentation feel unique, refreshing and full of passion. Just the other day, I came by a post explaining how "For riddles, for wonders" mimics the pain of Nahida as she reached the end of the Sumeru story quest's arc and I just bawled, man. I can't help it. It's so rich in tunes, also due to the sheer monstrosity that is Sumeru's map, and they are just so great at telling tales just with music.
Last but not least, Sumeru is the only region that I cried for once I finished exploring it 100%. I'm sure there's still some buried treasures in some of those tombs and I can't help but go back there from time to time, but when I returned the last Oculus to the statue... I cried, man, I bawled. So many hours spent in that desert and now that it's over and I won't hear those tunes... I don't know, it feels so lonely. Fontaine just didn't have the same taste. It was much much easier to explore and the underwater sections were super calm and I enjoyed them greatly, but it's nothing like those puzzles in those dungeons with no lower level maps (thank god they added them, I'm not complaining one bit).
I just miss Sumeru and I cannot wait for it to be time and get myself ready to get back into the desert with Cyno and find out more about him. Three and a half more hours to go for me. Can't wait!

2024.05.14 15:31 life_rolla_costa Do you guys also have difficulty in sleeping or it's just me?

So, recently my rheumatologist increased HCQS dose from 200 mg to 300 mg. Since then, I have been waking up 3-4 times every night. Generally I sleep by 10 pm. But it doesn't matter when I sleep, everynight I wake up at around 2:30 am, even if I sleep at 12. Then after 2:30 am, I wake up around 4:30 and then at 6. I have to wake up at 6 anyway bcoz my maid comes early in the morning.
My neurologist suggested me Amitop 10 mg, to prevent migraine and better sleep quality, but it hasn't started working yet it seems.
Do you guys also go through the same?

2024.05.14 15:29 No_Cardiologist9106 Does a 10 year old Leaf hold its integrity for a highway commuter?

I found a 2014 Nissan Leaf S with 48k miles and 10/12 battery life bars. It's currently listed for $7600 by a private party which I believe is too much, but I'll negotiate it when the time comes.
I drive 30 miles roundtrip for work everyday (95% of it is highway) and I live in the deep south so I'll be using A/C the majority of the time while going highway speeds. I'm wondering if this is a good option of a car or is it too risky for it's range. The trade in value according to Carvana/CarMax is $600 (lol) so if I purchase it I need to be sure it sustains my needs to commute to work because it seems like there is no sense in trading it in for something else.
I've never owned an electric car so I'm certainly not sure if the "78 miles" on a full charge truly means it or if it drains faster than the range suggests for being 10 years old or what. I don't know anyone irl who knows much about electric cars so I'm hoping y'all could point me in the right direction. Thank you!

2024.05.14 15:25 jillianmd Refund Update - Art Institute Discharge

I got the discharge email on May 1 and like most of us was very curious about the potential refund part.
On May 6, my studentaid.gov updated to show I no longer owed any loans. However Nelnet is still showing my loans on their site as of today. However they have been placed in forbearance now so that’s a positive sign that the discharge is being processed on their end.
This morning, May 14, I have an email from Nelnet saying that I have a new letter so I logged in and it says I have an overpayment and need to verify my address so that I can be issued any refund owed.
I called in and verified my address with a nice rep and she said they didn’t have any info yet on the amount I would be refunded or a timeline but that since my contact info is up to date I don’t have to do anything further and will be contacted again.
Here’s hoping it’s the entirety of my payments so far over the last 10 years (about $30,000!) but we’ll see.

Here’s the text of the letter from Nelnet:

2024.05.14 15:23 folknepalisocialist Who are the real enemies of Nepal?

"The specific political distinction to which political actions and motives can be reduced is that between friend and enemy."
— Carl Schmitt
Politics in Nepal, especially politics for change is aimless because they can't identify a enemy to fight against or struggle against and they run around aimless with vague or useless talk about helping everyone and being friends with everyone for "unity". Or a vague word like "corruption"
Of course that's not really how change is brought.
If the current system exists in Nepal then it exists because some people benefit from it. Not because our politicians are "stupid" (If our politicians were stupid how have they held power over us for so long?)
From one problem or another, someone in the country does benefit and profit and with that profit he buys Nepali politicians
Everyone from the private school owner looting students
to the contractor looting the public
to the private hospital owners looting patients
to the only billionaire in the country
All are members and funders of our political parties. They fund the parties and they get returns on their investment in the form of a free hand to exploit and suck people's blood.
Farmers protest because Indian products are displacing their goods, they are forced to throw their products away and protest on the streets. Did it just happen randomly or are their trader capitalists who are benefitting from all this by importing?
Nepal has problems for vast majority of people. But it isn't just because the politicians are incompetent. It is because there are people in Nepal who are benefitting and earning money from all our current problems. If you think about it even unemployment is a source of revenue for those who run the manpower companies.
And then we say stupid things like displace Oli or prachanda. In 20-30 years there will be no Oli or prachanda. But unless you fight the root of the problem. The Oligarchy which profits from the suffering of Nepali people then the problems will remain same.
The man in singhadurbar is a puppet of money and finance, the real ruler's of Nepal are Chaudhary,Agrawal,Golchha etc
If you are earning a healthy profit from importing goods from India and selling Nepali youth abroad it isn't in your interests to allow Nepal to industrialise or allow Nepali farmers to live.
So we can't take all Nepalis together with us and sing happy songs for change. There is a class of Nepalis who love this system and we have to struggle against them
We can't convince them either they are obviously going to defend their loot and exploitation as it's in their interests.

2024.05.14 15:17 Glum_Lab_3778 RLS has abruptly stopped

I’ve been plagued by RLS since my first pregnancy 30 years ago. It’s gotten progressively and steadily worse to eventually include my whole body. It amps up a lot around my cycle. For 3 days now, it’s been gone. I don’t know if I’ve done something or if it’s going to come back. I take 1.5 mg of requip per day, starting when I feel the first quiver or 8:30 pm, whichever comes first. I assumed I’d have this forever. My friend’s mom is 80 and has to take methadone for it. I feared that would be me one day. I’m not getting my hopes up too high but it would be a life changer if it didn’t come back. I didn’t know what to put for the flair!

Time for a new bullish narrative: “Hong Kong Bitcoin ETFs Hit by Record Outflows; $32M Withdrawn in 1 Day”
“Hong Kong’s six spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced their largest net outflows of $38 million on Monday since their inception on April 30.
The trio of spot Bitcoin ETFs, managed by China Asset Management (ChinaAMC), Harvest, and the partnership of Bosera and HashKey, witnessed a substantial outflow of 519.5 BTC on Monday, valued at over $32 million. This figure contrasts with the 99.99 BTC outflow observed on Friday, as per the analytics from SosoValue.
Leading the exodus was ChinaAMC’s spot bitcoin ETF, which saw 251.65 BTC withdrawn. Following closely was Harvest’s ETF at 147.86 BTC and Bosera HashKey’s ETF at 119.99 BTC. As of Monday, these ETFs collectively held approximately 3,560 BTC, with their total net assets diminishing to $219.7 million from Friday’s $262.7 million, SosoValue reported.
The Ethereum side of the market echoed this trend, with the three spot ETFs also marking their highest daily net outflows to date. A total of 2,270 ETH was withdrawn on Monday, a notable increase from zero flows on Friday and an outflow of 471.25 ETH on Thursday. In monetary terms, these Ethereum ETFs faced a total net outflow of $6.6 million on Monday, according to Farside’s data.
Meanwhile, the bleeding trend observed in the Hong Kong crypto spot ETF market contrasts with the U.S. Bitcoin ETF market development. As of Monday, U.S. ETF saw a positive flow of $66 million led by Fidelity’s FBTC. This positive flow emerged after two conservative trading days of negative flows.”

I am a home crocheter, and I made a piece for meditation. I don’t like the final look of it so I am going to donate it. How on earth do you figure out the value? It’s about 4x2.5 ft. I used inexpensive yarn, and the rings were less than $30. I’m not sure how much time it took because I did it for relaxation/fun. What would you pay for this?

2024.05.14 14:56 UltimateTraders 5/14/2024 Daily Plays Let the Casinos Open! MEME Mania! GME AMC BB SPWR KOSS Adam Aaron sold 72.5 million shares of AMC at an avg of 3.45 yesterday for 250 million, Does he have FOMO? No Rhyme or Reason straight dice roll, have a risk profile! I will gamble 2-3,000! AMC 13 High GME 80 Premarket

Good morning everyone. Absolutely insane! Post pandemic I have seen everything. Many of you do not remember, there was a little Chinese company $HKD around August/September 2022 that ran from 12 to 2,555 in less than 5 days! This company was not short. At it’s peak the market cap was well over 500 billion! It is now 690 million. Look it up! This company was a new IPO with just 1 million shares available for trade. This was not shorted at all. The idea that a company must be short is not correct!
The stock market is a live auction based on supply and demand… Yes, it is correct that if a company is short high. [A figure over 20% is fairly high] it becomes easier for the stock to increase.. the buyers can force the stock to go higher, and brokers will cover, force buy the shorts to close out positions but it is not necessary..
AMC had near 500 million volume and GME 200 yesterday….
AMC had 263 million shares available… AMC took advantage of the volume and printed 72.5 million brand new shares at an average of 3.45 yesterday for 250 million.
Does AA have #FOMO ?
This morning’s peak was 13 for AMC and 80 for GME … AMC does need the money for business, it does suck that they didn’t have more offerings available and had they known, this 250 million would be over 1 billion today!
The point? NO ONE KNOWS!
No one knew last week, no one knew over the weekend! Yes, Roaring kitty, or someone that used their account may have tweeted but no one knows what traders will do with that, or what the highest high or lowest low will be…
I have shared with many of you that the CEO of Reddit RDDT is actually the main Mod at WSB. There is definitely a ton of stock manipulation but I would argue and say that is what 99% of new traders want! They want quick and fast money, don’t care if its fixed, scam, real…
So open the casinos! Most options must be traded during market hours..
I do not blame anyone for playing the volatility.
Yesterday, I did bid 500 dollars on 2 different GME puts for July. I guess I was lucky that neither filled. A 25 and 27 strike… Based on premarket I may be able to 60-70 LOL! If I lose it is a risk I am willing to take.

I would like to buy 3 different AMC and 3 different GME puts. Maybe different strike prices or expiration dates and at most 500 each. The most I can lose is the money in the option. No YOLO! No one can predict the prices, just that it will be hot money…
If you go on the fundamentals :
AMC 330 million shares = 700 to 800 million value means near $2 to 2.50 fair value
GME 305 million shares = 700 to 800 million value means near 2.50
It is obvious that the companys’ themselves can not make enough money to justify the 4 and 10+ billion market caps they will have at open.

I sold PERI at 12.55 from 12.10. I will keep making this trade. They will be doing a 75 million buyback soon. The CFO expects it to start soon and close by June 30th. The only speculation here is when it starts and if they will have a daily limit… Will they buy in several days? Or buy 5 million a day? 10 million a day? That no one knows… I took a bet a few weeks ago on DNUT because of MCD news.. The earnings were good. I have 1,000 at 13.55, I may buy 1,000 more as it goes near 12…. I am positive when MCD roll out completes there will be a 25% increase in sales… not earnings, but sales….. earnings, I do not know… I have WBA at 19 and 19.25… I am glad they are selling off Boot stores in the UK. They must unlock some value here. I did bid 22.50 on more ACMR.. I did try YOU … I almost sold SOFI at 7.35 [In 1,000 at 7.10] I did make a bid for PYPL . COIN had amazing earnings I am watching… OSCR as well…
Looking for a deal on MTCH again, last sale at 29.. So there are lots of things to do besides memes.. Just be careful out there. It is a roll of the dice!

5 Trade Ideas:

AMC / GME – Open the casinos! I don’t blame anyone long or short, I am willing to make several 500 bets on different strikes and dates.. They will all have time. [Yesterday I tried July GME puts with a 25 and 27 strike, no fills]

PERI – I have 500 still at 22, They will be at the auctions soon and I want to be in first! Last trade 12.10 to 12.55 on 500… I will keep trading more blocks of 500

SOFI – I would like to make 25 cents on my 1,000 at 7.10 and keep trading a block of 1,000

ACMR MTCH OSCR – Some stocks I have been watching with good earnings or value

DKNG COIN – Both great earnings but speculative at valuations, I would risk money in Call options, not shares

2024.05.14 14:49 OldKilnOriginal Am I wrong on PSR? (Warning depressing)

I dont want to flat out kill hope… so I hope I am wrong.
heres what i think (sources at bottom) numbers rounded and details overlooked - this is rough but the situation is so dire that we dont need to delve deep to see how fucked we are.
First some background…
———-
We had to submit our financials in January which showed a 90million loss. then we have till 30th of June to “make it right” with psr rules. So we need to show significant profit on transfers by then, or some miraculously arteta money appears.
Our losses doubled compared with the 21/22 figures
We made 45million profit on player sales in 21/22
We still have the horrific figures (120million loss) of covid affected years impacting our 3 year rolling PSR period.
Our debts and therefore interest payments have risen.
———
With the above knowledge its not a huge leap, given we doubled our losses, that we also need to double our profit on player sales. Meaning 90mil profit gets us to within 10-15 million of PSR rules.
So lets say, to be safe, 110 mil of profit on sales are needed to avoid further points deductions.
We already made profit on (sale price vs book value)
iwobi around 20mil, Kean around 20mil, Cannon, simms, gray, nkankou 15 mil
Remembering this isnt what we sold them For… its what we sold them for minus what we still owe on their contracts.
So roughly 55 million profit on sales needed.
Onana cost ÂŁ30, spreading the cost over 5 years means he is worth in the books 18 million.
So we need to sell him for 73million by the end of June.
If we don’t we need to sell someone else.
Theres a decent argument that selling branthwaite before end of June for 60 mil means that we can keep hold of Onana and sell later in the window for a higher price to reinvest.
We MUST sell by end of June and buying clubs know this. We will not get full market value as we have no choice. the defence of holding out for a higher price at the end of the window(or in this case after euros) did not help Forest (bradley johnson to spurs). It wont help us either.
——-
Other considerations
Have assumed everything else is equal, yes we have high earners contracts coming to an end - gomes/alli. But equally we had Allan/delph/rondon also come off books in the like for like period.
Wages, again like for like - we sold iwobi but replaced his wages with beto’s etc
We cant be sure what addbacks the prem will allow so the actual figures may be a little to a lot different.
And i have totally ignored that we are going to get fucked over regards the still disputed addbacks from the last two independent hearings.
“there remains a dispute between the Premier League and the club as to the status of certain costs that the club says are associated with its stadium construction. The League considers that these costs fall to be considered as a loss for the purposes of the PSRs. The club contends that these costs are not losses, given that they relate to the construction of the stadium and have been capitalised in their audited accounts. This issue, and the question of whether any additional sanction should be applied, will be resolved by the same Commission at a later date”

2024.05.14 14:48 Caramel-Inevitable My experience with egg retrieval, including my protocol, costs, scheduling and results (US)

I started stim on 5/2/24, which was the second day of my cycle/period. Here are some stats: * AMH 1.48 and AFC 32 (12 on the left and 20 on the right) at baseline bloodwork and ulttasound in February. * I had alcohol until 2 days before my cycle started. I didn't drink once my period started. * I stopped lifting weights once I started stim. I didn't do much cardio either.
This was my protocol (Day 1 means "day 1 of stim", which is the second day of my cycle):
Day 1-Day 4 * Gonal F 225iu * Menupur 75iu
Symptoms: Slightly more emotional. Belly felt like I might be pregnant and I felt the need to be extra careful when getting out of bed etc. Overall felt my usual self.
Sex: Non penetrative. Orgasm caused no discomfort. At certain times, sucking in my tummy felt a bit like I might be pushing down on something inside me.
Tests: bloodwork and ultrasound on Day 1
Day 5-Day 9 * Gonal F 225iu * Menupur 75iu * Centrotide .25mg
Symtoms: Not much.
Tests: bloodwork and ultrasound on Day 5 and Day 8. I think they said the follicular count was 6 on the left and 16 on the right.
Sex: Non penetrative maybe around Day 5 or 6. Orgasm caused no discomfort.
Day 10 * Gonal F 225iu * Menupur 75iu * Centrotide .25mg Trigger shots at 9:45pm * HCG (Novarel) 5000 is * Lupron (Leuprolide Acetate) 80 units (4mg)
Tests: bloodwork and ultrasound on Day 10. Follicular count (that were large enough) had increased to 8 on the left and 18 on the right. Most of them were around 16mm to 17mm. I think there was one that was like 19mm. This is from memory so the numbers might not be exact.
Day 11
• 11am Azithromycin 1g (two 500 mg tablets)
I was asked to take this on Day 10 at night, but I misread the instructions and took it in the AM on Day 11. I was told this is fine.
Hydration: I drank a lot of water throughout the day in preparation for surgery the next day. I didn't eat or drink anything after 11pm that night.
Symtoms: Woke up on Day 11 with pelvic discomfort and cramps which I figured was from the trigger shots the night before. I was waddling a bit when walking. Driving over small bumps caused discomfort. After taking the Azithromicin at 11am, I felt a bit feverish. I had to lay down. I fell asleep for a couple of hours. I woke up around 3pm feeling perfectly fine. The pelvic cramps were gone as well. The rest of the day was smooth sailing, except for this feeling like my stomach was stretched beyond normal. It almost felt like I was constantly holding in my stomach because of the way it was stretching my tummy.
Tests: bloodwork on Day 11
Day 12
Retrieval in the morning. The IV stung throughout the procedure until they put me under. This was probably the most uncomfortable part of the entire procefure. I was out of the clinic in almost exactly 2 hours. It almost felt like I just went in for a blood draw and walked out. It doesn't feel like anyone did anything down there.
Before leaving the hospital they told me they were able to retrieve 30 eggs. Later in the day they left a message in the online portal saying they were able to freeze 27.
I spent the day on the couch drinking gatorade. Took a nap. Overall I'm felt great, other than for a very slight headache which started around 6pm. I had a Tylenol extra strengh which helped. It kind of felt like I drank a bit the night before and I was hungover. I'm prescribed Letrozole two times for 7 days a day and Cabergoline at night for 16 days.
Costs\ My insurance didn't cover anything related to fertility. Out of pocket cost was around $13300 ($8100 for procedure, $650 anesthesia, $35 initial tele visit, $4500 medication). I might have spent an additional $150-$300 in bloodwork.
I did have an additional $760 added to my cost because I visited a different hospital initially (Penn medicine in Philly) - they were not upfront about all the costs and ended up charging me $380 for the initial visit with the doctor (which was a bit like a sales pitch) and another $380 for the baseline ultrasound even though they told me it would be covered by my insurance. It was also really hard to get a call back from their billing team (they rarely return your calls).
Scheduling\ Main Line fertility in Philly worked with my cycle. Since I already had the baseline ultrasound and bloodwork done, they were able to get me started on stims with my upcoming cycle.
They required me to call them on Day 1 of my period to schedule to come in and get bloodwork on Day 2. I started stim on Day 2 of my period. I had my retrieval on Day 13 of my period.
End to end, starting from my first consult with them, I had my eggs retrieved in 21 days.
The hospital I was working with previously (Penn Medicine), had me going around in circles for months. It was extremely stressful. I'll write a separate post about red flags to look out for when choosing a clinic/hospital.

2024.05.14 14:40 KrisTraveler 40 y/o - Are ROTH IRA/401k's overrated?

Here is the deal - i'm 40 y/o and have built up a portfolio of about 400k, but I have been putting it all in my Fidelity investment account and none in any IRA or 401k:
70% in equities (mostly S&P 500 index funds but also a small portion in individual stocks), 20% in CDs, and 10% as emergency fund but sits in a money market. I also own a house, about 10 years into a 30 yr mortgage, but is in a growing city and has gained significant value.
Pension - I am an Army reservist with some active duty time, which will soon hit 20 yrs, so I am guarenteed a pension at about age 57. I also currently work in another federal agency and could pull a 2nd pension at age 50, assuming I decide to stay in this job for another 10 years.
Question - Am I crazy to ignore putting money into a 401k? I know I will get hit by the tax man when I sell my equities, but I also don't like keeping my money tied up until 60, as I am thinking of buying a nice vacation property at some point in my 50s. And obviously my government pensions add a good cushion later in life. Am I underestimating the tax burden and should I make any adjustments on my financial planning at this point?
Thanks!

2024.05.14 14:31 Frequent-Scheme7213 Moyes greatest hits

Just a personal list of my most memorable Moyes’ games since his reappointment in 2019. Telling that the majority of league matches come from the 2020-21 period, suggesting it’s probably the right time to change. Thanks David, you put the pride back into being a Hammers fan.
Hope others share their favourite games.
Premier League- 4th Oct 2020- Leicester 0- West Ham 3 First signs that Moyes’ counter attacking style could be effective and exciting as we shock a high-riding Leicester team. Antonio, Fornals and Bowen all on the scoresheet.
Premier League- 18th Oct 2020- Tottenham 3- West Ham 3 Optimism from the previous games start to fade as we flatline early to a three-goal deficit, are we back to the same old West Ham? An amazing turnaround capped by Lanzini’s wondrous injury-time equaliser shows Moyes’ has instilled a grit and perseverance we have been missing.
Premier League- 5th April 2021- Wolves 2- West Ham 3 Barnstorming first-half as we brutalise Wolves on the break and race into a three-goal lead. Moyes’ favoured style now supercharged with Lingard on board. The heady heights of 4th in the table, daring to dream of the Champions League.
Premier League- 23rd May 2021- West Ham 3- Southampton 0 Late-season defeats to Newcastle, Chelsea and Everton have killed the Champions League dream but joy abounds on the final day of the season as we clinch 6th and a Europa League spot. Pablito scores two quick first half-goals and a late Declan Rice solo effort seals the deal. Fans allowed back in the stadium after a season of playing in eerie emptiness; strangely we thrived!
Premier League- 7th November 2021- West Ham 3- Liverpool 2 This was Moyes’ peak in the league as our physical strength on set-pieces and lightning- fast breaks overcame a disgruntled Liverpool. We reach the heady heights of 3rd yet strangely it seemed to go downhill league-wise from here.
Europa League- 17th March 2022- West Ham 2 Sevilla 0 (AET) Moyes greatest result? Still feels a surreal night, a weird fever dream as we comfortably upset a Sevilla side who had made this competition their own. The atmosphere at the bowl is fervent, Soucek heads us level in the tie and Yarmolenko adds the scriptwriter's ending, scoring the winner and leaves the pitch with the Ukrainian flag. Russia had declared war on his country three weeks earlier. Lopetegui leaves defeated but with unfinished business in Stratford.
Europa League- 15th April 2022- Lyon 0 West Ham 3 Going into second-leg as underdogs , the Hammers produce a classic away performance to shock an overconfident French side and march into the semi-finals. Ballon D’Awson, Rice and Bowen with the goals and the high point in Moyes’ relationship with the fans as he is serenaded off the pitch.
Premier League- 16th April 2023- West Ham 2- Arsenal 2 Flickering signs of mongrel in the dying dog as the Hammers take offence to a showboating Gunners side two-up and high on hubris. Rice leads the press and Arsenal crumble under the pressure leaving their title challenge in tatters. The home fans ask why it took 30 games into the campaign to show this passion. Moyes' side have been too passive and meek all season.
Europa Conference League Final- 7th June 2023- Fiorentina 1 West Ham 2 Moyes and Bowen entrench themselves in Hammers folklore as a last-gasp winner seals our first trophy in 43 years. In truth, the match was emblematic of late-Moyes style as we grind our way unprettily through the game but who cares when the result is this joyous. Moyes gets a deserved first trophy of a long managerial career and in keeping with his old-school values hangs the medal round the neck of his elderly father.
Europa League - April 19th, 2024- West Ham 1 Bayer Leverkusen 1 The rage against the dying of the light as a first half of shock and awe rattles the all-conquering Leverkusen. Moyes’ side, desperate to stay in the competition, go for the jugular from the off and show the high-energy, front-foot style fans have been crying out for. We know the dream is dead when the half-time whistle goes, and we are only one -up. Predictably, the players can hardly run in the second half, lack of squad depth and indiscipline from key players have left us snookered. Fully expect to see the referee exposed as being ‘on the take’ in the next few years. That first half though, what might have been Davie?
