It seems that for some reason the Node3D nodes are not available in my project... Is there someway that I can import them or load them into this project?
There was a tutorial I was working on months ago for a 2D project, and some options were tampered with that I can't recall now... Since then I've had a few different problems with trying to start 3D projects, but this is the only one I haven't been able to resolve on my own... Any ideas are appreciated!

2024.06.07 20:54 codernunk46 For those who want to make fully fledged 3D characters for games, I made this starter guide!

Hey all! Hope you are doing well.
Four years ago, I decided to learn Blender so I could make 3D characters for my game. While there's a lot of guides out there on modeling characters, it's often difficult to define a workflow for yourself that you can follow consistently. Also, I have run into problems integrating the model into Godot (my engine of choice), so I wanted to also document how I got it finally working.
I like to document my processes, so I made this tutorial in hopes that it will help others as well. I know it's very long, so feel free to just reference bits and pieces you may need.
Thank you to people in this community as well as other content creators who helped me on this journey!

2024.06.07 20:02 emarcomd Perfect data based depth maps question..

I’m so new that I don’t even have my laser yet. It should arrive in 2 weeks from overseas.
Looking through older posts, I saw someone made a comment about having troubles with depth maps and having to do a lot of trial and error work. Someone replied:
”That’s why I start with 3D models and then export a perfect depth map since it’s data based”
I think I know what this means, but I’m not finding any sort of tutorials or the like explaining the process.
I have seen one tutorial where a guy does this:
  1. Photoshop -> generate a decent depth map using Tilied ZoeDepth
  2. Import depth map into Blender to make a 3D model
  3. Blender 3D model to Meshmixer to clean it up, refine it.
But then he goes on talking about CNC stuff. Nothing about how to get that “perfect depth map” into LightBurn
here's the video: I'm talking about)
I realize it's considerably more complicated than the 3 steps I listed, but that's the general idea.
I'm willing to put the work in during the design stage rather than do a deep engraving on a 30W machine and realizing I have to do it 5 more times to make it look decent, at 5 hours per coin or something. (I'm using a 30W JPT LP. Well, waiting for it to arrive then using it.)
So I'm very curious about exporting perfect depth maps that are data based!

2024.06.07 17:25 extreamHurricane Last of us is a mediocre franchise and is undeserving of the hype it gets.

The game, is 50 percent cutscenes and dialogues. I want to play a game about apocalypse, not sit through the drama.
It is not difficult, felt like a tutorial game where the only job is to aim and shoot. No chase, no scary moments.
Why on earth would you make a TV series which is just the remake of the game. Are you telling me that an apocalypse does not have new storlylines and characters to explore. The same story, just like the game.
People used to convert cinema into 3d games , but with LOU we have evolved backwards. They didn't even get that right.
YOU AINT METRO or FALLOUT bruh! Stop trying to be mainstream. I really want to sign a petition to cancel the show and instead donate that money to the cast of fallout as a bonus for their spectacular performance and also to the screen writers.

2024.06.07 17:12 MattyD_96 Noob Blender Help 2.90

Hey all,
New to Blender here but have been following tutorials online on how to make 3D models so I am somewhat familiar with the layout.
I have an issue with my model where the images dissapear after the render. I've been working off the animation tab and can see the images on the model in most of the other tabs apart from the one I'm looking at.
Looked at a few solutions online but not sure how else to solve. Could anyone advise? https://i.imgur.com/8mZET59.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/xMCBgdz.jpeg
I'm having to render a low resolution video everytime as I can't see anything within the animation tab, it's pretty painful!
Thanks

2024.06.07 17:12 BreakNecessary6940 Hard frustrating time on AutoCAD

I’m going to blow up I am having a tough time trying to figure out why am I doing any of this in the first place like I’m sitting here and the assignment is to make a cup holder with the school logo. Like it’s not even that I hate 3D I’m just getting frustrated because everybody else seems to be doing well but I’m not and I don’t wanna stare at this stupid logo all day. I am more into architecture and cars and I like using blender but at school that’s a no no. Like I feel so defeated. I just wanna work on modeling cars and stuff I like but no I have to do this cup holder. This AutoCAD 3D modeling software is confusing why is it I can extend a cylinder 🤯

Bounties Update

Just to inform everyone (no ping) that we closed the A better 2D onboarding tutorial.
We wish to wholeheartedly thank everyone who applied, by close we had 8 applicants with some awesome ideas and great plans for building awesome tutorials. We do hope these developers still continue with their plans for more awesome community content.

2024.06.07 15:30 ThrowawayAG08 Which version of Blender should I use - 3.x or 4.1?

So I'd really like to learn Blender in order to make models for 3D printing (sure Fusion might be better but at the end of the day it seems Autodesk constantly removes features from the free version, and I hate that it needs to be online and always needs to update) as well as just making digital models. I tried to follow the donut tutorial in 3.5.1 some time ago, and I got up to part 4 I believe before putting it aside.
Now I want to learn again, and since then 4.1 has come out. I deleted 3.5.1 and downloaded 4.1 planning on learning that version, but from what I've read that may be a bit of a buggy version. Using an M1 MacBook Pro, so as far as I'm aware 3.0 is the earliest I can go back for stability. Versions like 2.79b aren't out of the question since Rosetta, but I think 3D modeling software should be native and not emulated.
Even though I started the donut tutorial in 3.5.1 it was so long ago that I worked on it, a year or so, so it would essentially be a fresh start regardless even though the UI looks pretty similar. So...go to some version of 3.x or should I just stick with 4.1?

Can't see anything i create
I'm just starting to learn hammer and tried following a youtube tutorial how to use brushes to create Gmod maps, but I can't see anything when I click and drag with the block tool in the top right window. I don't even see the edges of what I create. Changing camera to 3D textures does nothing. My grid also looks different from everyone else for some reason. Can anyone help pls?
When I try out Hammer from the TF2 folder it works completely fine. The issues only exist when I use the Gmod Hammer.

2024.06.07 11:29 DeadlySinsRising How to flip sprite in top down view game?

So I have followed tutorial for 2.5D game (Sprite character with 3D controller). I decided to make it into top down view game. And my blueprint logic is that when player goes left, controller is rotated 180 degrees in Z axis. This works fine for when character is in 3D view, but when I adjust my character in viewport (lay down sprite in capsule component and move camera to above) it doesn't flip correctly anymore. W/S/D controls works fine but A flips my character upside down. To specify, I'm using 2D platformer sprite (drawn only in one direction) for my character. And I don't want to use those sprites with multiple directions, I just want to flip my character 180 degrees horizontally. Flipping sprite it self doesn't work, because sprite is rectangle, so if I flip it, it creates illusion that my character teleported. I'm attaching some images of my blueprints and viewport window. https://imgur.com/a/29A6z4u

2024.06.07 07:37 Downtown-Awareness70 Preparing NERFS for sale on Sketchfab and Unreal Marketplace

Hello, friends!
I'm excited to share that I live in a country rich with unique buildings, statues, parks, and historical sites. I plan to use Luma AI and Unreal Engine to create 3D assets based on these amazing landmarks and sell them on Unreal Marketplace and Sketchfab.
Can anyone recommend some tutorials or key considerations for preparing these assets for sale? I've learned from ChatGPT that reducing polygon count is crucial, but I'm looking for more technical suggestions like this.
I have reviewed the Sketchfab FAQ, which only lists the best types of files to export to Sketchfab. I'm also open to using Blender, Houdini, or Adobe for asset editing, although I prefer to use Unreal as much as possible because I'm also learning in preparation for a career in development or design.
What qualities are buyers typically looking for in these assets? I would greatly appreciate any tips or insights from your experiences!
Thanks in advance for your help!

2024.06.07 02:36 FingerMinute7930 Blender is so hard

I am pulling my hair out when it comes to arrays. I’ve watched more than one YouTube video on making a very simple spiral seashell using an array and I put in all the coordinates but it doesn’t make a seashell it just stays a very long line of circles. Are there any recommended tutorials on this? I feel I am doing everything they ask in the video and took pages of notes just on the simple videos. What am I missing I don’t know. Unless blender is this hard all the time. I’m fairly new but have some experience in 3D modeling in other programs but nothing this difficult. I am thinking it has something to do with assigning the empty and then assigning the empty to the object I feel like something goes wrong even though both videos said same thing. Please help. Maybe there are MUCH better videos out there?

2024.06.07 02:11 est1mated-prophet Beginner looking for guidance on modelling game assets

I'm new to Blender and to 3d modelling. I have watched the "Donut Tutorial" series. My goal is to create low-poly models for a game---think WarCraft 3 or EverQuest. I need a lot of models, so I need a process/technique that is fairly quick once I have gotten the hang of it. I want basic animations, like walking animations, and very crude textures (texture painting should be OK). With these goals in mind, what I think I want to do is:
I know there is a wiki with resources, but there are so many for different purposes that it's a bit overwhelming. So I have a few questions:
  1. Is there anything I'm forgetting, or anything you think I should consider, especially regarding my imagined workflow above? Is there anything else you would recommend I learn? Maybe you think sculpting is garbage and I should totally do something else for game assets.
  2. Are there any plugins that I should use to speed up my process?
  3. Do you know of any really good tutorials or other learning resources that teach any of the things I need?
  4. How different are Blender versions 2.x and 3.x from 4.1? How much should I care if a tutorial I find is using Blender 2.x, for example?
