Episode Description

Simba leaves Kiara in charge of the Pride Lands while he, Nala, and Zazu go to Kilio Valley to attend a funeral for an old elephant friend named Amanifu who has just died. Upon learning this from Mzingo, Janja decides to take advantage of Kiara's inexperience and comes up with a plan to take over the Pride Lands. Meanwhile, Simba is nervous about performing his eulogy in front of the elephants, including Aminifu's daughter, Ma Tembo.

Pros
-First off, I like the sibling dynamic in this episode, as somebody with a similarly aged older brother. Kion and Kiara's relationship has resonated with me, the way they have off days and arguments, but, obviously love each other and make it out strong in the end. I, for one, do not hate Kiara in The Lion Guard, and Kion gives her the same attitude she gives him in early episodes. I like watching their relationship go through ups and downs throughout Season 1.
-I know the opening scene, where Kiara and Kion are fighting over a tree to sharpen their claws is quite intense, because they would've probably gotten into a scuffle if Simba hadn't showed up when he did, but, that is siblings for you sometimes. I feel like anyone who's got siblings of your own can relate, at least a little bit, to that scene.
-I like the plotline of Kiara and Kion's sibling rivalry stemming from their roles in leadership. Kiara is clearly a reflection of her father, when he was a cub, which is interesting and so, she thinks that being the Future Queen is really swell and makes her the alpha, and Kion (who is no better than her) thinks that being Leader of the Lion Guard makes him more important than her. I like this mechanic in this episode. It makes me want to know if Scar felt the same way about Mufasa. I mean, Kion was obviously not resentful of Kiara, unlike Scar, but I wonder if a similar thing happened with the two brothers except, in this case, it drove Scar to insanity and wanting to murder Mufasa.
-Now let's talk about Kiara being left in charge of the Pride Lands (I mean, I do think the main conflict of the episode was Simba's fault, but we'll get to that later). So, I like the fact that Kiara is nervous about ruling the Pride Lands, even for a brief period of time. I like this because for one thing, she's still only a cub at this time, so, she's entitled to be nervous and anxious about being responsible for an entire kingdom. There's a lot of responsibility being placed on her at such a young age, but, she still remained likable, in my opinion. I do like how, in The Lion Guard, she takes her responsibility as Future Queen very seriously. I know this is unpopular to say, but, I headcanon that, as she's grown up into an older cub, she's realised that being queen won't prevent her from being herself, a concern she had at the beginning of TLK 2.
-I do empathise with Kiara, and Kion, because they are both being put into a huge responsibility of looking after the entire kingdom on their own, while all the adults are away from Pride Rock. This is still really early on in Season 1, so Kion is inexperienced as Leader of the Lion Guard, and Kiara only just started her training with Simba, in the pilot episode. I do feel bad at the fact that they have to figure everything without their parents around and I respect them for managing to work out their differences by the end of the episode.
-I really feel bad for Kiara because she gets a lot of crap from people in the TLG community, moreso than Kion does. I feel really sorry for her because people say they hate her for her attitude and that they think she's a self-righteous bitch at the start of the series, but, I don't. Even as a kid, I knew that a lot of Kiara's behaviour in this episode was down to the stress of being left in charge of whole kingdom for a few days without her parents around, while still being a cub at this point. I do really like her and it really upsets when I see people hating on her. I don't think Kiara really means to be controlling in this episode, she's just trying to do right by her father while he's gone.
-I like the fact that Kiara is really hesitant and nervous to have a huge weight on her shoulders, a role she was previously really excited to fulfil in the pilot episode. When Simba asks this of her, she's understanding feeling a lot of pressure to make him proud. I like the fact that Simba admits to her that he was also nervous about becoming king the first time. I like this because we only saw the side of him that was cocky, overconfident and optimistic about becoming king. I like the fact that she was nervous and that he decides to be upfront about it.
-Kiara still remained a likable character to me throughout this episode. I like how she starts out as nervous and how her confidence is slowly building up nicely during the episode. But, she never came off as mean-spirited, to me. Also, it becomes clear that the reason her responsibility goes to her head is because of Tiifu and Zuri's influence on her and the Lion Guard's inexperience and, in this case, plot-convenient incompetence.
-Beshte, "I'm sure she'll be a nice queen." Well, I'm glad at least one of you believes in her. I can't tell you guys how much I love Beshte, always the sweetest soul out of the group.
-Ono, "Thank you for the opportunity, my queen. And you.... err..... my Kion." That line was funnier than it had any right to be.
-Speaking of which, I thought seeing Ono in Zazu's position, temporarily for Kiara was interesting and I think was a great use of his character, outside of being a Member of the Lion Guard. I personally would've been down for more scenes like this. I think a cool send off for Ono would've been to have him be the Royal Advisor to Queen Kiara and King Kovu, in the future. I wish Ono had stayed in the Pride Lands in the series finale and had become Zazu's apprentice or something.
-Bunga, "Your majesty." {bows at Kiara}. Kiara, "Bunga, that's really not necessary." I found that whole interaction surprisingly funny. Also, strong feeling that Bunga has a huge crush on his best friend's sister at this point, and Kiara views him as her friend, nothing more.
-Kiara's plan about the Bees and the Eelands fiasco was actually very smart, and even when I saw this as a kid, I knew that she had a better idea than Kion. Her idea about moving the eelands away from bees' nests is smarter because bees obviously sting when angered. So, Kion was too proud to admit Kiara had the better idea.
-One of the funniest parts of the whole episode for me was Kion saying, "I say we move the bees". Then, the scene cuts to Kion, Beshte, Fuli and Ono running away from a swarm of bees, in terror. I obviously don't want them hurt, but, I just had to laugh because it was so predictable.
-Bunga, "What are you guys running for? Bees taste even better when they're mad!" Accurate behaviour from a honey badger. They can raid beehives without being stung due to their very thick hide and their stink sap.
-When the Lion Guard arrived back at Pride Rock covered in bee stings, if I were Kiara, I'd be laughing in Kion's face at that moment, like "Ha, ha, you were wrong. Only an idiot would decide to move a swarm of bees to a new place." But, in fairness, Kiara was right to be mad at him, in that moment, for his little screw up.
-"It wasn't a total disaster," Kion, while talking to Kiara. Kiara, looks at Fuli and Ono scratching themselves, "Really? It looks pretty total to me." I mean, she does have a point there. In this situation, Kion had everything to gain from taking her advice.
-However, I do like the fact this episode shows that Kiara and Kion are not perfect leaders yet, they're still fairly young and are only just finding their feet, so it's natural for them to have some minor slip ups, that they learn from, like every kid does.
-"Admit it. I was right about the bees and you were wrong." Kion, just admit it and save yourself the embarrassment. Kiara was not being rude to him whatsoever. She was speaking nothing but facts.
-When Kiara talks to Mzingo at Pride Rock, I like the fact that the latter is clearly higher up in the frame because he's the one dominating the conversation and is also the one who manipulates Kiara. I think it's a nice touch where he creepily approaches and blackmails her.
-*laughs "Janja wants peace?" I like the fact that Kiara is clearly sceptical and she's obviously suspicious of Janja's true intentions. I like this because it doesn't make Kiara out to be seriously wayyy too gullible and silly. The fact that was she was suspicious feels more in-line with TLK 2 and makes her decision to believe Janja, partially Kion's fault. Manipulation is also a very powerful tool, especially to done on a semi-young child, like Kiara.
-I like the fact that Mufasa appears to Kion, unprompted in this episode, for the first time in the series. I love this because it feels like Mufasa saw the argument that had just gone down and was like, "Right I need to put an end to this sibling drama before it gets out of hand. I need to make Kion see the error of his ways."
-I actually love the fact that Kiara is, at least partially willing, to give Outlanders a chance for peace. It feels like a nice bit of foreshadowing for her character arc in TLK 2, where she was able to give the Outsider lions a chance to fit in.
-Kion angrily to Tiifu and Zuri, "Ugh! Some advisors you two are!" That was more hilarious than it had any right to be. Because, let's be honest, they were pretty obnoxious in this episode.
-"Get away from the Queen!!!!" I actually love the moment where Kion comes bursting in like a superhero, to his sister's aid. I also love the fact that he calls Kiara his queen, at this point, because he clearly listened to Mufasa's advice, and also because he had felt somewhat responsible for her almost being killed by Janja.
-"Oh we can fight all right!!!" So badass. I personally would've loved to see Kiara fight alongside the Lion Guard. I think it would've been cool to see her help to fight off Janja's clan. I wanted to see what she could do.
-"Six on six..... Forget it!!!!" Yeah, you better run, Janja, you don't stand a chance against all six of these heroic friends. And one of them is a bloody hippo.
-I love Kion and Kiara's closeness at the end of the episode where they make up for their uncivil, squabbling at the start. Kion finally rightfully admits that he should've taken Kiara's advice about the bees and the elands, and Kiara admits that Kion was right about Janja being nothing but trouble.
-Kion, "And I should've listened to you about the bees." Ono, "Oh, sure {rolls his eyes}. Now he admits it." Oh, Ono, you knew all along, but, we love you.
-Kiara and Kion when Simba and Nala arrive home, are really sweet. I love the fact that Kiara wants to be honest about what happened, "Ruling the Pride Lands? It went..." I absolutely love the moment where Kion decides to cover for her and admits that she'll be a great queen, this is an incredibly sweet brother and sister moment. That moment feels like a precursor to the episode "Baboons" and even later "The Trail to Udugu."
-I love the moral of this episode about "being supportive of your loved ones efforts to help, especially when they are wrong," because it applies to both Kiara and Kion in two different situations. Kion was obviously wrong to go against Kiara's advice to move the elands, but, Kiara learned that she should've been more sensitive about that whole situation. But, Kion also learned that if hadn't been so dismissive of her acting queen for a few days and given her his utmost support when she was clearly nervous about ruling the Pride Lands. If Kion and Kiara been more sensitive to each other, then, they would've been able to be in charge of the Pride Lands together instead of arguing. Also, this episode shares another moral, "Communication is key to understanding each other and a successful team." Kiara learns this after Kion saves her and she realises she was wrong about Janja, and Kion learns this when the Lion Guard get stung by bees, and even later when he realises that he was partly to blame for Kiara going into the Outlands, and that if he had been upfront with her instead of outright yelling at her and running out on her, she wouldn't have needed to be rescued. These are two important lessons for kids going through school together, or with siblings and friends.
-Also, Janja is genuinely dangerous and scary in this episode. He traps Kiara in the Outlands to use her as a bargaining chip for Simba or else he and his would eat her. They would've gotten away with it if Kion didn't jump in at the last second. Janja threatened the freaking princess of the Pride Lands! Reason number #50 why he should never be allowed enter the Pride Lands, no matter if he is starving or not, because he clearly cannot be trusted to follow the rules.
-And now I'm finally going to talk about the B-plot of the episode. It wasn't as good the A-plot, in my opinion. I did love the worldbuilding aspect of this episode where we learn that different animals in the Pride Lands have their own customs and traditions that need to be respected. I like the idea of Simba upholding a tradition and it was interesting that he was never trained for it because obviously Mufasa died before he could complete his training.
-I like the idea of Simba, Nala and Zazu going to an elephant funeral. Elephants actually have "funerals" in real life. In real life, if a member of their herd dies, the elephants will crowd around them ceremoniously to pay tribute and they'll collect twigs and branches to cover the fallen elephant to pay tribute, out of respect for them. I love the way its portrayed as a ceremonial funeral in The Lion Guard and that Simba is upholding a tradition. I love the way he has to say it in Elephantese because the idea of the elephants' having a language barrier is a cool worldbuilding element.
-Aminifu is a cool worldbuilding character too who, we're told, played a big part in the Pride Lands' revival and bringing the circle of life into balance. I like to headcanon we was a childhood friend of Mufasa and Scar, and the rest of the Royal Family, and how he go on to be a good friend to Simba, Nala and the rest of Simba's pride. I like to think Aminifu was responsible for all the animals in the kingdom, similar to the Lion Guard, and how his daughter fills that role in Season 2.
-The Elephant Funeral scene looks cool because of how emotional and how heart-wrenching it looks from afar. I like the addition of all the elephants mourning in the background. It was a little dark this early on the series. One elephant hugs Aminifu and looks like their going to cry, another elephant and her calf are crying, while hugging each other.
-I like how you can see shades of Mufasa's death through Simba's voice in this episode, such as, "And now Aminifu has completely his part of the circle of life," and "Well, time for the tribute." I like this because I like to think Simba is obviously nervous about performing a eulogy in front of elephants, but, probably also a bit upset and mourning over his own father's death. I mean, in fairness, he never to give his father a proper send off when he died, so, this probably hit even harder for him.
-I like how this is Zazu's first main character moment in the series and how much of a hard worker and a loyal he is to Simba and Nala, his whole motivation is just to help Simba learn Elephantese properly so he can impress Ma Tembo's herd, during the tribute.
-Nala is such a sweetheart and a loving partner to Simba. I love her because she's pretty much exactly how she was in the original film. She's his loving and supportive wife, and I love the way he gives him moral support when he gets nervous. I love her snarky jab at her husband early on the episode too, by the way, "Worried about Kiara? Or are you worried about your tribute?"
-The song "Duties of the King" was decent enough, I suppose. I mean, it's not my favourite song in the series and I wouldn't be reaching for it. But, I don't hate it. I like the more cutesy, "miscellaneous" animals shown in the background, like the chimpanzees and the porcupines. Plus, it's nice to know that Simba doesn't just sit on his ass all day and that he does important jobs, like he assigns gazelles to their grazing grounds and songbirds to their trees. I love that he presides over aardvark wedding rites and then we saw Muhanga and Muhangus kissing behind some grass. So, I wonder if Simba did in fact, preside over their wedding before this episode. Overall, I like the cute scenes of this song and I like the fact that Simba actually has important stuff to do. I can see why kids would dance around to this song because it's very bouncy and energetic. The beat is fine, but, I don't like Rob Lowe's singing voice as Simba. I think they should've used Cam Clarke all along for The Lion Guard, who actually voices Mwoga the vulture. I don't mind the beat, but, I don't think Simba and Zazu are the best singers, at least in this series, that is. I'll give it a 5/10 because there are worse songs than it.
-Ma Tembo is such a sweetheart in this episode and I love her. She doesn't have a major role in the series as of yet, but, it's still clear in this episode that she has a great relationship with Simba and the Royal Family. I'm glad she had a bigger part in Season 2. I also love her voice actress, Lynette DuPree (R.I.P) and I think she's one of the best in the series. I love how she makes her sound genuinely sad during the procession and then a little bittersweet during the "poop" scene. Also, shout out to the moment where she wraps her trunk around Simba.
-Also, call me childish if you want to, but I actually love it when Simba actually says that Aminifu had "poop on him". I mean, it just gets me because that's not something you'd say at a funeral and the fact that the elephants took it really well and actually laughed hysterically is genuinely hilarious. Like, even his daughter admitted that he had always had faeces on him. It was funny because of how much Simba feels like he screwed up, but, then, the elephants had a really good sense of humour about it.
-Also, this episode makes me wish that at least someone went to the Elephant Graveyard during this series. Maybe Aminifu's funeral could've been there and Simba and Nala would've had to go the place where they almost got killed as cubs or maybe even Kion and the Lion Guard would have to go there. It's such a missed opportunity. Or if Janja went there then maybe he could've learn that Scar betrayed his ancestors long before the events of The Lion Guard. But, speaking of the Elephant Graveyard, I bet Ma Tembo's herd are going to wait for Aminifu to decompose and then carry his remains to the Graveyard because that's something that elephants do if a member of their herd dies outside of their designated area. I like to think that that's what happened after this episode. I just wish they had the funeral in the Elephant Graveyard and we got to see Simba and Nala go there as adults, but, I'm not going to fault this episode for not going in this direction.
-Zazu, "I'm not sure Sire, but, I think you just said he had.... {quietly} poop on him...." Try not to judge me too harshly, but, I just find poop jokes hilarious for some reason, as an adult.
Cons
-First off, I don't like how Kion and Kiara were both dumbed down for the sake of plot-convenience for much of this episode. I get that they're still kids, but, Kion's plans to move the bees instead of the elands was the most stupid idea I've seen in the series. The literally just had an episode where Kion calls out his best friend, Bunga, for making bad decisions and now it's Kion who made a really dumb decision. I mean, that should be bee rescue 101, don't try to move a swarm of bees, they do not like, and the fact that Kiara spells it out for them before this scene, "....if the elands step on the beehives, they'll get stung.... there could be chaos." She's speaking nothing but facts. Kion should've realised that they shouldn't have tried to aggravate the bees. I don't like the fact that he acts cocky and dismissive towards Kiara, when she was so obviously right. However, Kiara was dumb to go into the Outlands alone to see Janja. I mean, I admire her willingness to give strangers a chance for peace, but the fact that she had her suspicions about him and she already knew what he was like, in accordance to the pilot episode, wouldn't she see reason to bring Tiifu and Zuri along for backup.
-I don't like how this episode seems to indicate that Simba favours his daughter over his son. Between the pilot episode and this episode, it seems like he sees Kion as a just a Child Soldier and doesn't actually love him equally. I know it's obviously not through, but, I don't like how he gives off an impression that he has favourites. Parents don't have favourites, unless you're an evil lioness named Zira and you give your youngest son everything, but then treat your eldest son like dirt. But, Simba isn't like that. I don't like how he says "I have faith in you," in such a way that gives off Parental Favouritism vibes. I'm really glad he doesn't have this in any of the later episodes.
-I hate the way the writers tried to do the Kion/Scar and Kiara/Mufasa parallels in this episode. I just don't like it being used as a plot device. The series makes a point to say that Kion is nothing like Scar and how he would never take his anger out on his family and friends. I don't mind Kiara being like her grandfather because he was a great king in his day, but, I don't like how the writers made Kion and Kiara have a similar relationship that led to Mufasa's fall. Also, one thing I loathed early on in the series is the fanart of Kion brutally murdering Kiara in rage, just like Scar murdered Mufasa. I just hate it so much because it would happen since Kiara and Kion have a caring relationship, where they do bicker like siblings tend to do, but, they would never turn on each other.
-I don't like the part where Kiara and Kion were outright malicious towards each other. All the lion cubs in this episode were quite mean-spirited at times. Kion and Kiara for obviously constantly fighting and being horrible instead of admitting to being wrong in certain situations, like the bees and the elands and the Janja situation. Kion is too cocky and overconfident about the bees, for my liking, and Kiara allows Tiifu and Zuri's influence to get her head and ends up believing she's always right. Kion only adds fuel to the fire by yelling at Kiara and then callously running out her instead of being upfront with her about Janja's true intentions. I get that siblings don't always see eye-to-eye on things, but, I don't like Kion and Kiara constantly being scumbags to each other and not giving things a second thought until the end. Mufasa had to be the one to put an end to the "sibling drama".
-Tiifu and Zuri were the worst of all, in my opinion, and I think all of you guys will agree. They were pretty annoying and obnoxious in this episode. They were very disrespectful and condescending towards Kion just because he's not a queen, and they caused Kiara to be disrespectful right back. Kiara doesn't strike me as disrespectful without these two around. I'm glad she actually stands up to them in later episodes rather than being influenced by them. Zuri is my least favourite of the two of them, she comes off as super mean-spirited and bitchy, and Tiifu comes off as domineering and rude. I don't like the way they talk down and belittle Kion and how they throw shade at anyone who believes Kiara is wrong. They act like stereotypical Mean Girls, but, the annoying kind. Plus, they weren't very good friends to Kiara for letting her go into the Outlands alone without a second thought about the fact that it might be dangerous. That doesn't sound like Tiifu. Remember how in the pilot, she was deeply concerned when Kiara was trapped by the gazelles. But, here, the stakes are much higher, and she's up against a much bigger threat and Tiifu and Zuri don't seem to give a damn. I'm glad Kion called them out on this behaviour before leaving. What I wouldn't give for Tiifu and Zuri to be captured by Janja instead, not to get eaten, but just so they can see how dangerous it is. It's episodes like this that make me wonder are they her actual best friends or are they just using her to hang out with the Royal Family. Kiara deserves better than these self-entitled bitches, in my opinion.
-I feel like Kiara should've been the main focus of this episode instead of Kion. I know this only S1 Ep4, but, I still think this should've been a Kiara focused episode, rather than a brothesister episode. I would've been interested to see Kiara take centre stage and the Lion Guard take a back seat. Then, we could've seen more of Kiara's apprehension about becoming Queen and her trying to make all the decisions without Simba around to guide her, and most importantly, see her trying to decide what sort of Queen she wants to be. I would've loved if Kion tried to be supportive of her and tries to help her watch over the entire kingdom, instead of saying "Screw you Kiara, go get herself killed if you want to and my friends hate you." I would've liked to see that explored and maybe have them be a little bit annoyed at each other, but without making them really malicious. Also, have Tiifu and Zuri be in their annoying phase and for Kiara to realise that her "so-called" friends are not being very good friends to her, and have her ditch those bitches at the end of the episode. Then, have Kiara and Kion make some big decision together that really develops their relationship, in the future.
-I don't like how Simba is portrayed for much of this episode. I know, he was mourning the loss of an old friend, but I really don't like angry Simba moments in this series. I don't like the fact that all Zazu was doing was trying to help him practice his eulogy and Simba gets frustrated and roars in his face. I hate it when he throws tantrums, as a full-grown adult lion. I hate the idea of Simba regressing more into his evil uncle as of this series. I know he's not, but, I hate it when acts like it. Zazu, bless him, was just trying to help and Simba took out his rage on him. I do not like it when Zazu has to be the butt of all the jokes. I don't like Simba being a headstrong asshole in The Lion Guard.
-I also don't want to point fingers, but, if Simba hadn't left his semi-young daughter to rule over an entire kingdom for a few days, none of the conflict would've happened if he left Kion and Kiara with a responsible adult, like Rafiki or Basi or someone, just to keep an eye on things. I wouldn't leave kids their age home alone for even a day or more than an afternoon. If they had an adult in Pride Rock with them, the arguing wouldn't have spiralled out of control the way that it did. Also, this makes no sense with Simba's character in TLK 2. This is the same guy who sheltered his daughter the whole time she was growing up and wouldn't even let her explore more than 2ft from Pride Rock or even leave Pride Rock, at another point in the film. In this episode, she's still a cub and he's okay with leaving her to look after an entire kingdom for days on end! Yes, he did show hesitation, but that was after he and Nala had already left the Pride Lands. This episode fails to show just how okay he was with leaving his preteen daughter in charge of the kingdom for a few days with no adult supervision. Also, this episode and the series fails to explain how he regressed back into his over-protective state of mind in the second half of TLK 2.
-A minor complaint I have. This is a very minor nitpick. But, the distance between Kilio Valley and the Pride Lands that was established in this episode is very confusing. This episode implies that the elephants live approximately a two or three day walk from the Pride Lands, enough for Simba to outside of the kingdom, when in other episodes it's actually a part of the Pride Lands, just barely on the outskirts of the kingdom. I also don't get why the writers made it seem like Simba, Nala and Zazu took like a day or less to arrive at the elephants' funeral. There's no indication that they were travelling at night or that they ever slept. However, I understand, the writers just wanted to show some of journey and then transition to the day of the funeral, so I won't fault it to harshly. However, I do wish that the distance between Kilio Valley and the Pride Lands was consistent. This episode makes it seem like that whenever Kion and his friends have to help the elephants, it would take them a whole day to arrive on the scene. But, that's just a small criticism I had with this episode.
Overall
So, overall, I did always thoroughly enjoy this episode. Even as a kid, I could not stand the fact that Kiara got a lot of hate in the Lion Guard Fandom and that loads of people blamed her, just her, for a lot of the drama in this episode. Kion and Kiara shared 50% of the blame each and I think that Kiara is overhated. Anyways, I did like Kion and Kiara interacting like real siblings and slowly learning how to work together, it felt a little bit like a prequel to "Baboons" and "The Trail to Udugu", in that way. I like the lesson about learning to communicate well and to listen to one another and that they were both in the right and wrong, at different points. I liked the loving sibling dynamic at the end and the friendship with all the Lion Guard. I like the sense of family between Simba, Nala, Kiara and Kion at the end. Janja poses as a genuinely threat to Kiara. I think the humour was pretty solid as well and the educational value. I liked the worldbuilding aspect and the elephants' relationship with the lions. Aminifu is a cool headcanon character. The only parts I didn't like were, Tiifu and Zuri were unbearably annoying in this episode and weren't very good friends to Kiara. I don't like them being stereotypical Middle School girls. I hate their disrespect and belittling towards Kion and their toxic influence on Kiara. I didn't like Kiara and Kion's maliciousness at the start or the fact that the writers tried to draw Mufasa/Scar parallels. I don't like angry Simba at all in this series. I hate the fact that he gives off Parental Favouritism vibes in this episode. I don't like the fact that Kion and Kiara were hit with the idiot stick in this episode. Simba and Tiifu and Zuri are kind of at fault for all the drama in this episode. The song was just decent, not the best not the worst. Overall, I'll give this episode a 6.5/10, it's not perfect, but I think it deserves more love in the fandom and I think there are way worse episodes than it.

This is a first time post and I'd really appreciate any insight from others who had post wedding regrets... I'm really struggling with our day and it's so disheartening for me and my husband.
In short: we planned an outdoor, destination wedding but were unlucky enough to have rain the entire weekend. The rain spun me out so much and triggered so much anxiety that I didn't interact and greet my guests like I wanted to. I am left feeling like I have disappointed everyone and they regret even making the effort to come to our wedding.
Does anyone have any advice or words on how they dealt with a similar experience?

The Background: We are expats; I'm Irish, he is from the UK and we met in The Netherlands. We both decided to have our wedding abroad because we didn't feel it was right to choose one location over the other so we opted for the beautiful Portugal. About a year before the wedding, he was offered a job in Sweden so we relocated 6 months before our wedding date (another big undertaking).
Destination weddings always cause some rumblings but in our case, there wasn't really a location to choose that would keep everyone happy so we wanted to make it a little city break so people could really get something extra from the weekend.
The week of the wedding: Well, if you hadn't guessed already: it poured with rain the days before and after our planned outdoor wedding. (The sun did come out by Monday so anyone staying longer did get to experience some sunshine but most people only stayed Friday - Monday morning).... We had to opt for a Plan B and convert to indoors... but I was so spun out by the rain and the guilt of disappointed guests that I really wasn't fully present to greet them the days before. I went into total panic mode. The guilt was so overwhelming that I found it very awkward to talk to a lot of my guests. Of course, I tried to put on a brave face and I hugged them and thanked them for coming...
We had a meetup the night before the wedding. This was supposed to be outdoors in a square with lots of bars but we switched to the hotel. In a panic move, I put 1000EUR behind the bar as a gesture for the guests.
The Wedding Day: On the actual day, I was still a bit shell-shocked and couldn't really enjoy the morning getting ready. My poor bridesmaids didn't know what to do and the whole getting ready experience was a pretty silent affair.
Thankfully, I came around a few hours before the ceremony and realized I had to accept it for what it is. My partner during all this was keeping everything jolly and light and making jokes about the weather.
Walking down the aisle was actually really fun and I loved seeing him there waiting for me. We had a short, informal ceremony given by a friend of my husbands.
After the ceremony, we started with a receiving line but we were ushered to a different location by the venue coordinator and unfortunately, the receiving line kind of fell apart at that stage.
While I have vague memories of hugging people, I really don't remember if I got everybody.
Then the rest of the day is a bit of a blur. I started to do table visits but didn't get very far and then I just remember my husband telling me that he had gotten me a plate of food and that I should sit down and eat...
The rest of the night was spent dancing but not really socializing properly.
We had put on a free bar, BBQ with great food, a band and a DJ.
Families: My husbands family are more introvert and quiet and didn't socialize very well during the wedding. they didn't even congratulate him (there is a complex relationship there)... his mum became upset at the dinner table and started crying and then she left the top table to sit with her friend.
My family are more sociable but my dad is a drinker and he gets quite selfish when he drinks so he upset my mum and me to the point where I told him not to do a speech (he didn't want to anyways so he didn't protest)
The next day: The following day we also invited people to our villa but it lashed rain again and so guests were in separate villas with me running between the two, and again, not really socializing properly.
Now: I am struggling with extreme shame and embarrassment that I threw a terrible wedding and that I was a bad host. I've barely heard anything from guests since and I really would like some advice on how to acknowledge my regret but also maintain some level of positivity with guests.
My poor husband is so gutted that I feel this way about our special day and I want to be able to accept the regrets and move on but I am stuck in a loop.
Does anyone have any similar experience hear and can offer some advice?

Well here’s the whole story.
My mother in law is a very dominant person in nature, she always wanted everything under her control, keep in mind i’m from india while reading this.
(APRIL 2023)engagement saree: in my culture, the husband’s family buy the engagement saree, since we’re not in 540 BC most of the families nowadays let the bride choose her favourite, but my mother in law chose the saree, since she had a gold and pink themed engagement in her mind, i actually liked the saree and i said yes. She didn’t let me choose the makeup artist, she booked one already for me, and even paid her in advance. somehow everything went well and i liked the outcome. i never had any rift with her, i really liked her.
after the engagement my husband and i went on a lunch date, she saw me and pat on my belly and said i should lose fat, bitch? i’m nowhere near fat, it was something like periods belly
My wedding was in august 2023. between april and august, this is where i see her true colours. Meantime she became close with her son’s best friend ( who is actually his gf but he brought her home saying she’s just a friend and the girl(let’s call her kat) was trying so hard to win her)

1. around may, i was asked to come to her city because my mil and kat booked a dance workshop, my mil thought i wouldn’t dance well, im a dancer since school days and i never told anyone, at the workshop i danced so well but my mil never complimented me, she was only complimenting kat. 😭
2. around june, mil randomly calls me and tells me that she bought a outfit for my pre wedding ceremonies ( haldi and cocktail) i was like ??? um without ny presence, she kept saying that it’s so pretty and i’ll love it. since my engagement saree pretty and she chose it, i thought maybe she wouldn’t do something bad
3. when i saw the haldi outfit, it was literally a disaster, the neck was deep, the shoulders were falling off, it was ugly overall. my cocktail outfit she chose looked like something grandmas would wear on funeral.
4. somehow i made last minute changes and changed my cocktail outfit, still wasn’t the best.
5. what made me upset was, my mil and kats outfit were the best in the ceremony, idk why she chose the ugliest one for me and chose the best one for me, it really gave me a bad feeling about this woman.
6. i told my husband but he didn’t pay much attention to this, he said it’s after all a dress, also since he was in a different country, he wasn’t able to do anything much.
7. on the day of my morning wedding ceremony , she insisted that she’ll keep my accessories safely and somehow lost them.
8. for the evening ceremony, she crinkled my dress and said no one would notice.

my biggest question is “will she be okay if it was her outfit or her accessories”. i hated my wedding pictures, i get anxious everytime i see them, everytime i tell my husband, he gets mad that im always complaining about his mom, but no one sees that i got hurt
after the wedding: mostly in indian cultures , the daughter in law has to live with the husbands family. i absolutely hated every minute of it, they criticised the shit outta me.
to my surprise, my mother in law and father in law live seperately in the same area, their houses are 8 mins away from each other.

i wouldn’t have given a fuck if no one bothered me. but this uncle mocks me everytime i dress up, do my makeup. when he sees me cooking and he criticises me. when he sees me doing anything in the world, he criticises me. mocks me , my mil , bil and this bastard laugh together.
i felt kinda off since she’s keeping this as a secret from her husband, my fil doesn’t know he’s staying with her full time, for my mils bday this uncle got her a diamond ring , which she hid from her husband, she showed the gifts from me, her sons and her mom but hid the gift from uncle.
he got her a dyson ( which is whole another story, i told my husband i wanted dyson for my birthday, i also mentioned the color blue since it’s available in india, i guess my husband has the habit of telling her everything, just before my bday she went and bought the blue dyson air wrap) and didn’t even tell my husband / her husband. l randomly spilled it to my husband since she wanted it to be a secret. i did it intentionally.
one random day i was checking pinterest i check the messages where i saw a old message i sent to her profile , like a hi or something.. i went to her profile, i saw a board where she saved all the quotes like “you stroke me in places where my hands cannot reach” all such sexy quotes, she also has another board where she saved good morning pics that she usually sends to me and my family. at this point im only speculating, i cannot let a random outsider mock me, also my fil is a very good person, keeping things from him and forcing me to act accordingly is also annoying to me
she’s always been all about appearances, my father in law is shorter than her, kinda fat. also looks old but he’s very rich. maybe that’s why they live separately since she doesn’t like to be seen together with my fil, i’m saying she all about appearances because she only talks to people who look pretty, in my wedding , people from my dads side kinda don’t dress well but they’re good people, she didn’t even wanna shake hands or smile at them when i introduced her to my family. one of my friends was kinda fat and dark, she didn’t even talk to her but she went and took pictures with my other two friends who looked slim and fair.

i cannot understand how a literal outsider was given so much power to hurt their daughter in law, and when confronted they support him. he once mocked me for my makeup and i didn’t even respond to him, he texted me saying “hope ur not upset, i did just for fun” this is not a apology
on top of it so many times my mil has come in between me and my husband, since me and my husband are doing a long distance relationship, he comes to india for 2 weeks breaks, ever since we got married in august, we’ve only spend 56 days together. so this time due to olympics he’s getting one month off and we planned a japan trip. my mil immediately said she would also join and said we can go to dubai.
i had to explain my husband how this is not okay since we only had 56 days together and having a family trip is not okay, he somehow explained her and changed the plan to bali. but she was still upset.
even while we’re planning the trip, she asks my husband to send the itinerary, wants to know every detail from the hotel we’re staying to places we’re gonna go
i went back to my parents house since everyday it’s a problem with her and the uncle. i wanted to go LC with her. she called my mom and complained that i don’t text her or call her and that she misses me. if she really misses me , she could text me instead of telling my husband, my mom, my dad , and her relatives. when i see her relatives they’re asking me why i don’t text or call her.
the list goes on, i’ll edit things when something pops up in my head, i got so exhausted from just typing out few things that happened in a span of 8 months
also my husband and i are waiting for the visa, im giving this marriage one last chance, im hoping things will be better if i live alone with him.

Joanna Lannister is a woman and a woman's duty in Westeros is to give birth to healthy heirs, Tyrion is an ugly dwarf who, unlike Jamie and Cersei, has imperfect appearance and features, and this can upset Joanna.
Joanna married Tywin, the man who started the red wedding and made a song out of genocide, and Joanna is said to be in the house of the one who rules over Tywin, which means Joanna's character is probably not just the soft and submissive lady she's supposed to be. Be kind to Tyrion.
I guess Joanna's behavior with Tyrion could be similar to Catelyn Tully's behavior with Jon Snow, although perhaps less strongly, but the nature of Catelyn's relationship with Jon, which probably includes hostility, resentment and neglect, will probably be repeated in the relationship between Tyrion and his mother, and Tyrion will endure more suffering
I think unlike Tywin who was a cold man and could make his motives seem logical to me, even if it doesn't make sense, but Joanna might just ignore Tyrion outright and not even have any reason to and not to hide his hostility and anger towards his son, because Tyrion's existence represents his violation and failure in his relationship with Tywin, who is a man who is obsessed with his heritage and this may even affect the relationship between Tywin and Joanna.
exactlty Tywin probably blames Joanna for giving birth to a dwarf just as Tywin blames Tyrion for his birth and death of his mother in childbirth and this line of thinking may be shown in this new situation and this is probably All the more reason for Joanna to hate the dwarf who ruined the relationship between her and her husband
Everyone thinks that if Joanna was alive, the Lannisters would be mentally and physically healthy, but I think it's a bit more complicated, and Joanna's survival could make things even more toxic between Tywin and his children.
The idea that Joanna is probably a goddess of beauty and love is not entirely true in my opinion, and the fact that she was able to have a successful marriage with a man like Tywin and make him laugh and love him and rule over him at home shows that Joanna is probably It has had dark personality aspects

I'm going to be honest. I really didn't like Restoration. I could go on about what I didn't like, but suffice it to say, I liked it quite a bit less than the "Shisno Trilogy." So I wanted to think about what a perfect ending to Red vs Blue would have been for me. One of the reasons that Restoration failed in my eyes was because it was going for a story with a large scope and action when the team just didn't have the resources to make it work. So, I'm going to go for the exact opposite of that.
We begin right where Season 17 ended in Wash's hospital room. Carolina and Doc decide to stay with Wash to continue helping him get back on his feet, and the three give a temporary goodbye to the Reds and Blues as rest of the group leaves, not really having anything to do while they wait for Wash to get better. Soon after, Donut would leave as well, given his realization that he didn't really like any of the Reds or Blues anyway in the previous season.
As the Reds and Blues make their way back to Blood Gulch, they meet other people that they met along the way, and we learn about how them and the galaxy has been doing since we last checked up on them. Chorus has finally established a proper peace with the UNSC, Locus is finally a full-time good guy, etc.
Essentially, in this season, there's no real overarching plot or villain. There's not even any action scenes. It would just be dedicated to saying goodbye to each character individually and giving them a good conclusion. and one by one they leave the group, having found some kind of higher purpose or just move on with their life. Lopez probably goes with Donut, Tucker goes to go take care of his kid. Sarge realizes that none of the Reds are taking his shit anymore, and decides to become a drill instructor, and takes Caboose with him because he'd miss that rascal. Sister and Grif decide that they want to go home to make amends with their parents or something, but Grif tells her to go on ahead as he wants to at least see Blood Gulch one last time.
Eventually, once we arrive back in Blood Gulch, it's just Grif and Simmons left. The whole place is empty, as it has been for a very long time. They climb up to the top of Red Base one last time and ponder life's great mysteries.
Simmons: "Hey, you ever wonder why we're here?"
Grif: "What!? It was your idea to come all the way back here in the first place, dipshit!"
Simmons: "No, moron, I meant in the cosmic sense. Like, why we were born and all that shit."
Grif: "Fuck if I know! You missed your chance for philosophizing Eighteen Fucking Seasons ago, do not come to me with this shit now."
Simmons: "God, fine, fuck you, asshole."
There's a pause. Grif breaks the silence by sighing.
Grif: "Look. I don't fucking know why we're here, and I don't give a shit either. But... You know... I guess after all this, I'm kinda glad that I am."
Simmons: "What? Don't give me that, you never wanted to do ANYTHING."
Grif: "Yeah, yeah, save it. It's just like... one of those things that you didn't want to do, but once you do it, you realize just how much fun you were having the whole time. And how much you liked the people you were doing it with, even if you said you hated them all the time."
Simmons: "Grif..."
Grif: "So I guess what I'm saying is... thanks, Simmons. If I had to spend all of my existence in a box canyon with two identical bases at either end and a bunch of idiot soldiers, I'd probably hate it a little bit less if you were there, too."
Simmons: "You know what? Same, buddy."
Then they embrace, or kiss if that's what you'd prefer, and whatever the ending song for this season is begins to play
As the credits play, we see glimpses of how the Reds and Blues are doing since they departed. We see a short vignette for each of them. The final one shows that Wash is starting to do a bit better, and is getting married to Carolina, and they're sending out invitations to all of the Reds and Blues.
There's a post credits scene. We see everyone gather for Wash's wedding, but then an argument starts over something stupid, everybody starts yelling at each other, and then it ends.

Introduction
While “No Man’s Land” is considered a desert frontier by most, it has been the home of a native population for centuries: The neksut nomads. The neksut travel from oasis to oasis, riding horses and herding sheep and other animals. Though some Neksut have fearsome reputations as warriors, the neksut way of life is under threat from foreign settlers, most of whom see the as unsophisticated.
Recreation
Though outsiders will confidently claim the neksut have no arts to speak of (or even no culture at all), in truth the desert riders have rich musical and storytelling traditions. The neksut are great lovers of song, specializing in throaty chants. Singing is often heard while the tribe is on horseback or around the camp at night, and is typically collaborative, with a lead singer being echoed by several others. The most famous songs are epic historical and mythical tales, such as The Stone Men, Ballad of the Besieger, and Death of Pulcros. Musical instruments include string and woodwind devices, carved from wood and richly decorated.
However perhaps the greatest neksut art is quicksmithing itself. Manipulating quicksteel is vital to the nomads’ way of life, allowing them to effortlessly convert carts into temporary dwellings and back again. But with excess metal, neksut quicksmiths (called shapers in their language) often create temporary sculptures that will be deconstructed when the tribe moves on. Such sculptures are very abstract, often embodying the mood or state of the tribe at the time of construction. To the neksut, the impermanence of this art represents the transient nature of their way of life and of life itself.
Food
The neksut diet is heavily dictated by their nomadic lifestyle, and is fittingly dominated by the products of domesticated animals, principally horses and sheep. Milk is the most important element, and is drank as well as made into cheese, yogurt, or a dry powder. These dairy products are paired with meat from either domestic sheep or from hunted jackalopes or roastritches. Contrary to popular belief, the neksut do not eat their horses, save in rare cases when an animal dies or is too old to keep up with the tribe. Such animals are far too valuable as mounts and sources of milk to be consumed, and in fact an idiom meaning “eating one’s horse” is a neksut expression for one who has not thought things through.
Vegetables and spices (save for salt) are relatively scarce in much of the central desert and thus are scarce in the neksut diet as well. However the nomads make great use of what ingredients they have in a wide variety of dairy and meat meals. Seasoned jackalope jerky with cheese, shredded mutton over yogurt, and roastritch stew are typical. These meals are supplemented with redleaf, roastritch eggs, and whatever foreign ingredients can be traded for. While their cuisine is typically somewhat plain on account of their transient nature, the neksut can put on impressive feasts for special occasions, such as weddings or celebrations. In these cases the traditional meal is the so-called “yogurt table,” in which each participant is given a bowl of yogurt to pair with dozens of small dishes which are passed amongst the tribe.
Gender and Marriage
The neksut are relatively egalitarian in terms of gender. Two reasons for this may be due to their heavy reliance on horses and quicksmithing for their way of life; Mares are actually far superior mounts to stallions (due to their smaller size and milk), and the necessity for quicksmithing to set up camps and carts means that female quicksmiths cannot be disregarded, as all hands are needed. Thus neksut women can be warriors, chieftains, and shamans, with Salaris the Sandstorm and Mist-Eyes being prominent examples. However outside of these important roles, their still is a gendered division of labor in most tribes. Neksut often marry outside the tribe, with young men and women being sent to other tribes as dictated by shamans.
Government
Neksut governance is divided between chieftains and shamans. Chieftains lead tribes from one oasis to another, ultimately ending their journey at a religious site. Shamans oversee religious sites and help select the next route taken by the passing tribes, coordinating movements between different tribes so that resources are given time to replenish. The balance of power between these two roles has varied over time, though currently shamans seemingly hold the dominant role. Shamans serve an important logistical purpose in organizing the travels of tribes and arranging marriages, but they also act as culture repositories, with the shared language, history, and customs of the neksut likely owing to the shamans’ influence. Thus the Neksut are considered one culture and not a dozen.
Religion
Though their mythology purports to explain the origins of humanity, the first mentions of the neksut in the historical record dates to the aftermath of the Great Dying. Some scholars have suggested that the neksut might share common ancestry with some of the people of Tolmika, noting common elements between neksut religion and the Faith of the Heeders.
Neksut religion is centered around the earth and the sky. According to their mythology, the desert was originally a paradise that was the birthplace of the first humans, the Stone Men, who were the children of the earth and the sky. These children crafted a vast civilization from the abundant resources, living like gods for centuries. But over time they forgot their place, abusing the land and ignoring the sky. Eventually, the parents punished their offspring; The earth sent forth earthquakes and eruptions, while the sky whipped up duststorms and withheld the rain. The paradise transformed into the great desert, and most of the children died or fled, leaving their civilization to crumble. But one child, “Neksut”, remained and resolved to repent by living off the land even in these harsh conditions, slaying his fellow stone men. The neksut trace their origins to this figure. They see their own lifestyle as a continuation of that repentance, and view other civilizations as a recreation of their ancestor’s mistakes.

Some background: we do not live in the USA, so there are different traditions and customs at play here. Basically, my brother and his now fiance had been dating long distance for a couple of years, with multiple phone and video calls throughout the day every single day. And I know this, because he lives with me (mooching roommate).
There have been a few concerns I had about their relationship, the incessant phone calls being one of them (she has a tendency to call every 20 - 60 minutes), even while both of them are at work and I always had the impression that she was keeping "tabs" on him, as I'd often happen to be in the room when he'd receive a call and every conversation would essentially start with her asking where he was, what he was doing and who he was with - despite again, having asked him those same questions the last time she called (potentially all of 20 to 60 minutes ago).
She and her family also hail from a part of the country that is considered dangerous for foreigners, which is relevant as my brother and I are of mixed heritage and look foreign and some of her relatives have been openly hostile and/or disapproving of their relationship.
Also, my brother almost never refers to her by her name and I had no idea what it was until she actually came to visit us earlier this year. He almost always refers to her as his "girlfriend" and as of the engagement his "fiance". I also found it weird that he never thought to introduce her to me or to our mother prior to the visit. Given he decided to marry her, he could have easily set up a video call for us to have a chat long distance to get to know her a little bit. As it stands, we know almost nothing about her other than what we have observed or my brother has told us (and what we have unintentionally eavesdropped as she speaks very loudly on the phone).
Neither her nor our family is particularly well off, which leads to the next issue.
My brother proposed using a family ring - this was not out of tradition, but because he couldn't afford to buy an engagement ring and lacks both the patience and willpower to save/budget his expenses.
During the proposal they sat down to discuss some important details, mainly 1) the fact that neither of them have a lot of money 2) their respective families live in completely different parts of the country.
My brother tried to compromise by suggesting a location that was more of less "in the middle" of our country so that neither of our families would have to travel ridiculously far. She shot this down rather insistently, that it had to under no circumstances take place in or around her home town - meaning none of my brother's family would be able to attend his big day as it would essentially become a destination wedding none of us would be able to afford.
He gave in to her demand, but was able to get her to reluctantly agree to at least opt for a small intimate ceremony of no more than 20 people in order to keep costs down so they could put more savings towards buying a house.
Fast forward to months later and she's become increasingly pushy/demanding. While my brother isn't a prize by any means, she has started demanding huge quantities of money from him completely out of the blue for non-vital/non-emergency reasons (such as an alleged distant relative of hers refusing to get a job and her insisting on financing their lazy lifestyle).
She has also decided to break her agreement about the small ceremony and she now wants a big lavish wedding with a guest list of at least 100 of her family and friends only. Not a single friend or family member from my brother's side. Given the location, catering...etc. that she wants on top of that, the cost of the wedding is going to balloon to at least 9000 USD, which might not seem like much, but is a crazy amount in the local currency here. And she is demanding that my brother pay 70% of it, if not all of it.
When he shot this down, arguing that he doesn't earn nearly enough to have that kind of money saved up for when she wants the wedding (she refuses to let him be involved in any of the planning) and that that wasn't what they'd agreed on, she threw a tantrum and snapped that they might as well not get married at all and just go back to being boyfriend and girlfriend, but it feels like a tactic to force him into giving in to her demands yet again.
Apparently, this is normal behavior for her. She does not like to compromise and pretty much always must have things her way and her way only.
My mother and I really have our doubts about whether my brother should still push through with the wedding. My instinct is to have him ask for the ring back as we have concerns that if they do marry she will force him to settle down in her part of the country and isolate him from his family and friends, where who knows what might happen to him. That being said, I'm not always the best at reading these types of situations, are my instincts right and are there several red flags that speak against this wedding/marriage from happening or have I misread the whole thing?

I have a rather specific question about marrying my fiancé who's currently stationed in Naples - hope you all can help or point me in the right direction! 😬 (cross posted also to navy but was told to post here too)
So, fiancé has been in Naples over a year now & we've been doing long distance ever since. We just got engaged in October, shortly after I was admitted to grad school in Italy, which started at the beginning of this year. I'm here in Italy now on a student visa, valid until 2025. Once I finish my program, I want to go live with him so we can finally end long distance (he doesn't live on base). While getting married and adding me to his orders is I think the best way to do it, it seems really complicated and confusing.
We're thinking to have our actual wedding ceremony in 2026, to be able to save up enough money (aka after I get a proper job and can contribute financially), but are looking into getting legally married beforehand so that he can add me to his orders. We're visiting the U.S. later this year, so we're considering doing the legal marriage while there ... Or doing a proxy wedding at some other point... But basically what I'm wondering is how the process of adding me to his orders will work? With my student visa expiring at the beginning of 2025, will I have to go back to living in the U.S. for a few months and apply for a mission visa? Or would it make more sense for me to stay in Italy on a work visa and not be added to his orders? And if I go the Italian work visa route, do I not get any of the military's benefits of being married? Are there other options that l'm unaware of? 😬
Edit: If anyone has advice on how to navigate the whole courthouse/legal wedding before an actual ceremony, I would love to hear from you! Did you tell friends & family? If going the route of only legal paperwork/marriage, do you still consider yourselves engaged until the ceremony, or celebrate as an actual marriage? Lots to figure out haha

My wedding is coming up in a couple of weeks (on May 31st)! And I have been looking into makeup artists and wedding photographers but haven’t quite found anyone that suits my needs. (my wedding is very low key)
So I would appreciate any recommendations or leads if anyone has any!
Here is what I’m looking for:
Makeup artist(s): -For me, my mom, my mother in law, and possibly sister in law ⁃ I really don’t wear or like wearing makeup that much so all I’m looking for is a simple, polished yet natural look. I don’t want the full glam services that I keep seeing, I don’t think I want fake eyelashes, the only thing I’m concerned about (and this is embarrassing) is that I am prone to getting sweaty and don’t want my face to melt off 😭 Also I will want to schedule a trial for me the week of my wedding

⁃ My mom and mother in law are also looking for a low key simple wedding day look, just something that enhances their features, nothing full glam ⁃ Sister in law might be interested in getting a soft glam look 

Photographer: ⁃ we aren’t looking for a ceremony photographe8 hours of coverage ⁃ we need someone who can spend 2-2.5 hours taking our family photos (~20 people max) before the ceremony ⁃ I don’t need hundreds of shots or quick turnaround or anything, I’m only doing this because our parent insist on someone taking pictures 😬

The title sounds absurd lol. I and my partner are planning out the next few years of our lives as me (f21) and him (m20) do plan on getting engaged very soon but want to make it quick and small (we've been dating for 4 years). We hope to have a small intimate wedding, but still would like to find ways to include extended family. I am trying to think of ways I can celebrate US with all our family but keep the ceremony intimate. I've seen some people send invitations of sorts, that essentially say "we're getting married but you can support us and pay for this" (to put it bluntly). I'm trying to think of tasteful way to go about this if possible lol. I know most people would rather just send money anyways than attend a wedding, but i don't know how to put that out on an invitation or how we can go about that in a tasteful way. Any ideas would be helpful! :)

If you were invited to our elopement, would this sound reasonable?
FH and I are eloping, with our grandparents as legal witnesses, at our local town hall. We very much wanted the smallest ceremony possible, because our marriage is about us and we did not want it to be performative for an audience in any way. Also, the grandparents all had long and happy marriages and so it seems right. This bit we are set fully on.
This next bit is what I’d like an opinion on please:
I’d like to get ready with my parents, sister and two closest friends. They all live a 6 hour drive away on the other side of the country however. I was thinking of hiring an Airbnb where I could get ready with them and it would be like a replacement for a hen do, because as we’re eloping, I won’t have a bridal party and all that comes with it. And then after I get ready with my family, FH and I meet at the town hall for our registry office wedding, and then we meet back up with my family and his family and our two closest friends from each side and go out for a nice dinner. We are also thinking of a boat cruise after dinner as FH and I do not want to host a party but it would still be nice to do something together as a group, and make it worth their time coming up.
Is it unreasonable to ask my family and friends to drive all the way up to be with me for a couple of nights in an Airbnb to get ready with me and come to the meal afterwards, but to miss the actual ceremony?
Edit to add: my family and friends have asked to be at the ceremony, this is my way of managing their expectations and still having them included whilst keeping the ceremony to the minimum.
Also, who would pay for this Airbnb? It would cost £700 for two nights for my side of the family and my friends. Our entire wedding is costing £1k max! We are paying for the meal afterwards of course, and the boat cruise. I know it’s customary for people to pay for their own accomodation but should I be paying? There won’t be an equivalent for FH’s side as they all live more locally.
