New home drainage
We built a brand new custom home. We have tons of water coming toward the house. Is this normal?
Also, photo of our septic that looks like it’s caving in. Builder said this is settling? The alarm is now leaning over.

Hey there, seekers of connection and comfort,
So, picture this: it's a chilly evening, and I'm cosied up in bed with a good book, a steaming mug of chai latte, and my two feline companions, a tabby named Gracie and a tubby black cat called Milly. There's something magical about these moments, you know? It's like time slows down, and all that matters is the warmth and tranquillity of home. But here's the thing—I've realised that as much as I love these quiet moments, they're even better when shared with someone special.
As I journey through my thirties, I find myself craving more than just the comfort of solitude. I yearn for a genuine connection, the kind that goes beyond surface-level small talk and dives deep into the heart of who we are. I'm talking about conversations that leave you feeling seen and understood, where we can share our hopes, fears, dreams, and everything in between.
Now, I must confess—I have a keen interest in sci-fi and fantasy literature. Worlds created by authors like Neil Gaiman and Brandon Sanderson ignite my imagination, offering an escape into realms filled with wonder and adventure.
When I'm not lost in the pages of a good book, I enjoy delving into city builders and colony simulators like Cities: Skylines and RimWorld. There's a sense of creativity and strategy that's incredibly satisfying, and I'm always up for building my own virtual world and seeing it thrive.
But don't let my love for gaming fool you—I'm also a bit of a music enthusiast. I enjoy a diverse range of genres, from jazzpunk and electroswing beats to the smooth croons of blues legends. There's something about the fusion of old and new in songs like "Booty Swing" by Parov Stelar or "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone that gets me tapping my feet and feeling alive.
But here's the real deal: I'm on a never-ending search for someone who understands the beauty of vulnerability, who's not afraid to open up and share their deepest thoughts and feelings. Someone who's equal parts intellectual and empathetic, with a sprinkle of wit and a dash of charm. Someone who can appreciate the quiet moments as much as the grand adventures, who finds joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Physically, I'm drawn to eyes that sparkle with curiosity and a smile that radiates warmth and kindness. I'm a sucker for genuine laughter and someone who isn't afraid to be themselves, flaws and all.
So, if you're nodding along and thinking, "Hey, that sounds like me," then why not take a chance? Let's see where our shared love for cosy nights, meaningful conversations, and heartfelt moments takes us. To get us started, here are a couple of potential conversation starters: "If you could travel to any fictional world for a day, where would you go?" and "What's a hobby or interest you've always wanted to try but haven't yet?"
Drop me a message, and let's embark on this journey together.
With warmth and anticipation, Dave

2024.05.15 00:01 silvereagle01 How to handle roof fascia and other details when thickening exterior wall

How to handle roof fascia and other details when thickening exterior wall
Backstory: My townhome was built in 1982 by your run of the mill cheap builder. No sheathing, just let in bracing, 1’2” exterior foam board insulation + aluminum siding. That’s it. No house wrap or anything.
The foam board has gaps between the pieces so big you can fit a hot wheels car in some spots…honestly I have no idea how the township inspector passed this thing outside of greased pockets.
As you can imagine, the air drafts are fantastic, bugs love it, and all in all it’s a pretty awesome experience.
Anyways, our windows need to be replaced and I want to just rip everything off, add new foam board, siding, and although not structurally needed, sheathing as well.
This way I can get a little extra mass for sound (I know it’s not much), and also provide a better nailing surface for the siding because I promise based on everything else that no matter how good you measure or mark the studs, the new foam board will be Swiss cheese in spots by the time siding install is done.
Lastly, my roof was just redone 6 months ago, new underlyament and everything.
Here’s my question - What’s the right way of handling the fascia, shingles, flashing etc detail along the side of the home if I do this because I would be adding about 1” thickness. Is it possible to do what’s needed by just working with removing the shingles at the edge adding strips of plywood, underlayment, flashing etc?
Attaching a photo of the side of my house. (Front and back have overhangs where this is less of a concern)

2024.05.14 23:59 kfryy93 VA Construction Loan in Wisconsin

So, admittedly, I did dive deeper into these threads after writing this all out and gained a little knowledge but confirmation never hurt.
For starters, I'm a semi-recently divorced veteran, and I used my benefits to purchase a home with my ex-wife years ago. The home is currently almost refinanced by my ex, and I've signed the documents to release my benefits back to me.
I am planning to have a home built. I live in Wisconsin. My credit is 750ish, and I make upwards of $65,000 with a current DTI of only about .2-.24. And a pretty healthy savings account. So, I assume based on that, the initial start of the process should have no issues since they look at those things first.
I have a few questions in really no specific order.
  1. I do own land, but I don't plan to build on it. I am looking to purchase land elsewhere and have some leads currently. I'm not sure if it would be best to A) spend a large chunk of my savings on land. B) finance the land separate from the VA. C) Finance it all as one, as I believe construction could start almost immediately. Option A doesn't sound the best as I don't want to allocate all my savings towards land should I need it during the home building process. (C seems the best after research)
  2. The main reasons I want to go this route is because my brother is a GC and is willing to build the home with a huge discount on labor. And because the housing market is absurd here, of course. I've read about the approved builders list and that it's a simple process to be approved for, and they may be going away with it entirely. Either way, I just wanted to confirm that it should be no issue for him to be approved, assuming he possesses all the required credentials and whatever else may be necessary. He has plenty of ground up completions over the last few years.
  3. I was curious about the best route to take here as I've read about oe time closing. Two time closing. All that stuff. Just curious about the pros and cons there. And with that, would it be best to just go to my local credit union to begin this process? That's what I did with my current VA home loan, and it felt like a very smooth and easy process. They were basically the middle man but I'm not sure if going that direction this time would be the same given the change in loan type. (More research is telling me to do the one time closing option which I kind of understand. And to go straight to a VA rep)
  4. What types of deposits/down payments are generally required? I read about contractors requiring a deposit, but I don't have that issue with it being my brother. Even so, I could probably pay it. I was just spitballing with him recently, and he was explaining to me that what I want should cost no more than $120,000 plus whatever I may be able to purchase land for. I'm just throwing that number out as a basis, considering that's probably lower than typically expected.
I believe that's about it as far as initial questions/concerns. I did not want to begin speaking with lenders/VA without having at least some type of knowledge on the subject so I could point out potential inaccuracies or offer alternatives. Thanks in advance!

Cracks in basement walls
We built the home 9 years ago. Seen the crack the first year. Builder says this is natural and not a concern. This is the crack after 9 years. Looking for opinions. There are 3 or 4 in the basement. Do I need to be concerned? They do go from the plate to the floor.

2024.05.14 23:19 FabuliciousFruitLoop One year in

I would like to add an encouragement post. I am at my 1-year anniversary this week.
As far as I can figure out I have POTS, MCAS, CFS. My recent gut screen was actually pretty good except for a couple of aspects that need correcting.
I was bed/ chairbound for about 3 months. I couldn’t cope with any noisy sensory stimulation; no TV, radio, music. I literally just sat like a potato for weeks. In that time I had unintentional extended fasting where I just couldn’t stand to eat or drink for 2 or 3 days at a time. If I tried to use the stairs at home, there was crawling and resting involved, so I avoided trying to do that. I couldn’t really maintain my personal hygiene very well. My cognitive function was badly affected. Short term memory loss, on one occasion I didn’t recognise my own sister. Unable to read anything more than a couple of sentences or follow a conversation. Unable to interact with more than one person at a time.
After 6 months I was improved enough to try returning to work. I restarted at 4 hours per week. I could not drive at this point. At first I thought I was going to have to drop from a management role to a data entry clerk because my skills were significantly altered.
It is now 6 months later. I work 26-30 hours per week. I crash about 2 or 3 days per month; I’m still learning pacing but in the past month have got much, much better at this. My symptoms for everything except POTS are very significantly reduced. I still score “significantly impacted” on the different scales I am being monitored on, but compared to where I was, in material terms I am much more able. I can now drive for 30 minutes several times per week. I am holding about 50% of my previous work duties at this point. My cognitive function is dramatically better. I can lead a group meeting without crashing, for example.
Today, I had a joyous moment. I took my dog to a park I have not visited for a year. I have not been there because of an incline involved. I did a short walk with her. It was OK.
Every month I get slightly better. I have done a bunch of things to try and aid this. Thank goodness for this subreddit; it has given me the keys, signposted every single thing I’ve tried out, some of which I’m convinced are pivotal for me. I’m not writing a list because I can’t really say for sure - what has done what? Nobody is monitoring me except me. Maybe none of it worked and it was just time. Maybe I’m right, some things were crucial.
I know there are people early on in their journey looking for hope here. I would like to speak up and say I’m very much better. I am starting to contemplate the next forward steps. To all the people still profoundly debilitated: I think of you a lot. I speak about you in my paid work as a community builder. I’m so sorry that this gradual improvement I am describing has not happened for you. It sucks.

2024.05.14 23:13 4Runner2024 UPDATE: LVP reinstalled after debate

Last week I posted about a botched LVP install and was surprised by the amount of responses so thought I'd provide an update.
Long story short: about to close on my first home and unfortunately dealing with a budget builder who has been cutting corners left and right the past several months (constantly needing to check on them and correct things to get what I paid for).
I was expecting the LVP to be installed in a more randomized pattern, but they installed it in a stairstep pattern (Before photo). Revisiting the contract I saw that a 1/3 Offset install was stated. After a ridiculous 2 hour debate with the builder and their contracted flooring installer they eventually admitted it was incorrect (the flooring supervisor initially tried saying it was a 1/3 install which I found absurd).
The After photo shows the proper 1/3 install after they pulled everything out and started fresh. They're reusing most of the planks which I'm not thrilled about as I'm a bit concerned this could affect the integrity of the joints, but I'm hoping that because this is unusually thick and robust COREtec LVP with a decent locking mechanism, that hopefully won't be an issue. Time will tell. For reference the planks are 9"x72". The lighting & white balance from the camera is of course different between the photos, but they're the same planks. I still would have much preferred a random stagger and the new installer acknowledged it would not only look nicer, but also be easier for him to do than 1/3. Unfortunately, he was bound by the contract terms. Either way, better than a stairstep I'd say.
Hopefully this is mildly useful for anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation. Just wish I knew more about the advantages of a properly laid random stagger before I went into contract, but at the end I got what I paid for and learned a bit which is what matters.

2024.05.14 22:26 Falconerelectronics Who Knew There Were So Many Different Ground Strap Names?

Who knew there were so many different ground strap names? This can be confusing.Over the past few years, we started noticing that customers use a variety of names for ground straps. In particular, various industries or even different parts of the country use a wide array of ground strap names.

Products (and People) with Different Names

It is fascinating how the same items can have such a wide range of names.Every industry has their own product names based on Slang – Industry Nicknames – Aliases – AKA – Also Known As. Another example with different terms, depending on where you call home, you might say “You guys” or “Y’all”. If you hail from Pittsburgh, you most likely say “Yinz”. Before we get into our list of ground strap names, below includes a few fun examples of different product names that we thought fit this exercise:
Also, there is a list of eponyms examples:
In addition, several famous individuals fit this conversation as well:

Lastly, a number of celebrities also go by a different name:

There are tons of examples that could be mentioned here. What are some of your favorites?

Ground Strap Names

Back to the subject at hand.Since ground straps are not front of mind for 99.99999% of the population, the fact that a wide variety of ground strap names makes perfect sense.Especially since there are so many different uses. Below includes a list of ground strap names that our team came up with from speaking with various customers (in no particular order):

2024.05.14 22:25 Express_Project_8226 Still debating whether a 3 day Amtrak total 6 is worth it

So in lieu of a summer solo roadtrip across the USA which is my heart's desire I'm doing amtrak out of California with specific destinations such as Montana I'd always wanted to see Coast Starlight and empire builder going (plus Cardinal to go on to DC for sightseeing) California zephyr coming back (Cardinal or Capitol from DC also) 3 days each way in coach! I'd done the zephyr before but only 1 way. I have a senior cat at home (though perfectly healthy) that i can't seem to wrap around leaving for up to 10 days with a couple nights in DC and couple nights in chicago enroute doing absolutely nothing on the train but reading and videos/podcasts and of course eating. Monumental waste of time or worth it???

2024.05.14 22:22 DPRocco1 29 mg/L Iron Levels on New Home… Help!!!

Hi everyone, my wife and I recently moved into a new home, and we have significant well issues. The builder has been very helpful and willing to work with us, but we’re running out of ideas. To keep a long story short, the original well was 225 mg/L of iron (you’re probably thinking I don’t know what I’m talking about or can’t read a test… I promise you, this is a real number, and it gets worse). We were told by everyone that this was the highest number anyone had ever seen. They dug the well an extra 150 feet down, and the levels came back at 24 mg/L. The builder had a robust filtration system put in and we thought we were in the clear. Fast forward a month, and they ran a raw water test that came back at a whopping 640 mg/L (!!), a number so high the third party lab tested it another 3 times to make sure they weren’t wrong.
After all this, the builder dug a new well (in the back instead of the front), and it just came back at 29 mg/L, which our filtration company says is still too high for their top of the line system.
Is there a solution to this? We absolutely love the house and would be completely devastated to not be able to live here, but we can’t wrap our heads around having this poor of water our whole lives. I’m currently going through 6 40lb bags of salt a week just to keep up, and that’s just for us to shower and do dishes/laundry, not even able to drink it.
tl;dr I have the highest iron levels ever and am extremely discouraged about the otherwise perfect house we just moved into. Builder is willing to help but we have no clue what to do.

2024.05.14 22:13 Thatsidechara_ter Fort Ko'Var Briefing (Northern Mountains Front)

Fort Ko'Var Briefing (Northern Mountains Front)
[This post will function as the primary info-dump and planning post for the Siege of Fort Ko'Var. Let's get to it!]

Colenel Jethro Arvin looked around the Taronian 8th Regimental Headquarters at Waycross Road, surveying the plethora of attendees both junior and senior. It was a hell of a crowd; he hoped he didn't dissapoint.
First, there was of course his own senior staff, all in physical attendence now that Major Quoke had rejoined them. Also present in-person was Lieutenant Lenore McPherson, Intelligence Officer of the Praetorian 27th, and the Valyrran Major Zero, who arrived with Major Quoke and now stood silently off to the opposite side of the room from the Taronians.
There were also a plethora of attendees tuning in via hololith; Colonel Braithwaite and General Redlina herself plus a number of other Valyrran officers, presumably representing other elements to be allocated to the siege. There was also the lone small figure of a woman in a Minthelian jumpsuit; Arvin recognized her as the young aide who had guided him when he received orders from General Redlina to detain the Minthelian Lieutenant Sophy. It felt so long ago now.
The final hololith attendee, however, Arvin did not recognize: he wore a long white coat adorned with various bits of webbing and equipment over knee-high leather boots, and a simple steel helmet with a gold Aquila on it atop his head. The man introduced himself as Colonel Lilzton, commander of Task Force Liberation, the loyalist PDF remnants to the north of the fort. Arvin hoped he would get to meet him in person some time.
But now, everyone was assembled, and it was time for Colonel Arvin to begin his briefing.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending this briefing. We have a lot to get through, so I'll begin without delay..."

INTRODUCTION:
Covering an surface area of about 12.5 square kilometers, Fort Ko'Var, previously known as "Saint's Gate", serves as the primary bastion of resistance for the entirety of the northern mountains. It is carved directly out of the rock in many places, and as it's Imperial name suggests, it controls all passage along the north-south mountain road. Both the town of Kan'Shae and the base of operations for Task Force Liberation are nominally cut off to the north of the fort; for these reasons, the position must be captured if we are to secure victory in this region.

THE TERRAIN:
The geography surrounding Fort Ko'Var only makes it's capture more important. To the east and southeast lays an expanse of high peaks, jagged cliffs, and all manner of other hazardous terrain, such that getting a cohesive fighting force over it is all but impossible.
To the east and northeast lies a river which continues uninterrupted to Westbridge Lake. It is believed to have been artificially-made by the fortress's builders to achieve 2 goals: 1) to prevent the bypassing of the fort by any kind of vehicular foe simply by driving around it, and 2) to supply the defenders with a ready source of clean drinking water, as the river ends in a large pool enclosed within the fortress itself.
Thus, strategically-speaking, Fort Ko'Var is a natural chokepoint which provides the only way past these obstacles, both natural and man-made. Tactically-speaking, the ground surrounding the fort is wide open, providing little cover except for a handfull of foothills that could be used as staging grounds and observation posts.

THE ROAD:
The road which makes Fort Ko'Var so vital runs directly through the mountain in a tunnel just to the west of the bulk of the defenses; this tunnel is capped on both ends by reinforced blast doors rated to withstand at least some punishment from anything we have at our disposal, and is furthermore enclosed by 2 of the 3 defensive tiers of the fort.
We can also assume the tunnel is rigged to blow at the defenders' discretion. Should this happen, the only road connection will be through the heart of the fortress itself, as there are connections on either side of the tunnel, winding up and then down an extensive series of switchback roads that would expose any vehicle to near-endless plunging fire from above. Needless to say, simply ignoring the fort and it's occupants is not an option if we wish to use this highway.

THE TIERS:
Fort Ko'Var is comprised of 3 main defensive tiers, each partitioned by 3 heavily-fortified walls. all of these are complete with bunkers, observation towers, and massive defensive hardpoints that make them formidable obstacles for any attacker, but each also has its quirks and weaknesses that might be exploited.
The outer wall is comparable to a hive city's curtain wall, at least in construction if not in sheer thickness. It rises above the 1st, lowest defensive tier on a gentle slope; this tier is largely home to Fort Ko'Var's rank and file barracks, commodities and maintenence facilities.
The inner wall is less a true wall, and more of a permacrete-reinforced cliff that rings around the 2nd Defensive Tier. The only way up without climbing is a handful of personnel entrances and the 2 roadways, one north and one south. This tier houses the primary vehicle and equipment storage facilities, additional support infrastructure, the secondary artillery batteries, the commoner prison facilities, as well several passageways leading to the road tunnel and beyond.
Lastly, the Final Citadel is not a wall at all, but is instead a massive, adamantine-sheathed, armored plateau that sits at the very top of Fort Ko'Var, complete with countless weapons portholes, pillboxes, a partial mote, and a miniature voidshield enveloping it. Inside this last bastion is the fortress's command center, essential supplies storage, the VIP prison facilities, the majority of the fort's munitions storage capacity, and on top of it is positioned a ring of anti-aircraft emplacements as well as Fort Ko'Var's pride and joy: her primary artillery batteries.

THE ARTILLERY:
Aside from the countless other weapons systems protecting the fort, her main method of reaching out and touching her foes with extreme prejudice is, was, and always has been her artillery. These systems come in batteries of 4 weapons each, and every gun is housed in it's own 360-degree turreted bunker.
For air cover, 8 Imperial-era Hydra Flak Batteries still play a key role in protecting the fortress, but these have been further supplemented by 2 batteries of T'au-made SAM launchers. These long-range munitions are deadly to any pilot who strays anywhere near the fort's airspace, and should not be tested lightly. The Hydra batteries, meanwhile, can also be turned towards anti-personnel duties easily enough, as well.
Onto the ground-to-ground weapon systems, the local auxilia garrison will of course deploy light artillery such as mortars, but for precise, in-close bombardments that can pack real punch, Fort Ko'Var relies on it's 5 batteries of Bombast Field Cannons; I'm sure you're all familiar with that platform by now.
But for more long-range needs, Fort Ko'Var relies on its primary armament of 4 batteries of "Earthquaker" Cannons, as the locals call them. These weapons are T'au-modified, extended-range variants of the venerable Earthshaker Cannon, and rebel reports have clocked it's maximum range with a standard powder charge at about 22 kilometers, increasing to 30 when supercharged. They pack the same firepower as an Earthshaker and, from what reports we have, roughly the same accuracy margins, as well.
Put together, all of these weapons give Fort Ko'Var a potent array of long-range fires, with which it can engage both land and air targets with ease. However, there are some hints that at least 1 or 2 of the above-mentioned systems do not have the neccesary ammunition to operate optimally. The SAMs, in particular, most likely do not have a large number of missile reloads; thus, the xenos gunners may be less willing to fire valuable missiles at something they don't perceive as a threat. Pilots, take note.

OTHER INFO:
Based on rebel reports, Fort Ko'Var is normally home to about 20,000 personnel, with 15,000 in garrison and 5,000 patrolling the mountains at any given time. However, based again on the rebel intel we have, this force has a far-larger ratio of Fire Warriors to Auxilia, something like 2 T'au for every 3 Auxilia. From this we can infer that the T'au value this installation just as much as we do, and are invested in defending it.
Unfortunately I can't get much more detailed than that; with the recent retreat of T'au troops all across the north, it could be that Fort Ko'Var is operating on a skeleton crew as manpower is transferred to other sectors, or it could be that it has been heavily reinforced by units retreating there. Therefore, be on your guard and ready to respond to any possible threat, battlesuits, tanks, superheavies, you get the idea.

OTHER DETAILS:
There are a few more things of note that I must make mention of.
First off, back to that water pool. It is located right at the easternmost point of the fort in the 1st Defensive Tier; this might be a tactical weakness in their ability to get fresh water if they were pushed back to the upper tiers, but the estern tip of the Citadel also hangs out past the 2nd Tier, over this pool and extends downward [OOC: think something like the top tier Minas Tirith], enclosing a portion of the water for the final defensive tier's personal usage.
Second, there is the main landing area. While a few smaller landing pads are scattered around the 2nd and 3rd Tiers, Fort Ko'Var's primary landing area is on the northern side of the 1st Tier, both bulging outwards and making a massive indent in the 2nd tier and the Citadel. Originally being designed for Tetrarch Heavy landers, this area is big enough to land a whole squadron of Mantas simultaneously.
Lastly, there is the escape tunnel. As shown by Imperial records, Fort Ko'Var possesses a single passageway buried deep in the mountain, leading to a secret exit somewhere west or south of the fort. However, I am informed that our new-found local allies may hold the answer to it's location, in which case I believe immediate efforts should be made to cut off this last avenure for reinforcement or evacuation.

THE PLAN:
Fort Ko'Var is a stronge defensive position, but not impregnable if approached in the correct manner. Our basic battle plan is simple enough: Task Force Liberation attack from the north, while the Taronian 8th, Praetorian 27th, and elements of the Valyrran 1st attack from the south. We crush the xenos and the traitors between us, and meet in the middle. But that is, of course, more of an outline than an actual plan, and so I'd like to offer my own thoughts on the tactics to be employed.
Fort Ko'Var's 3 defensive Tiers are very different from eachother, and thus will each require a different approach. The 1st Tier has the longest perimeter to coved, and also the least defenses; therefore, we should make our first strike fast and hard, overunning this first obstacle with haste and superior firepower. This has the added benefit of showing the enemy what we are capable of; with the traitor human Auxilia's morale breaking all across Gryllus, we may yet open up further weakpoints by forcing them to accept their inevitable defeat.
The 2nd tier is... somewhat different. Carved from the rocky cliffs themselves, it will not be possible to simply breach it as you would a traditional wall, but this particular facet opens up... another avenue of attack which myself and Major Baxton have been discussing for some time. It is risky, and as of yet we are not completely sure it is pheasible, but I believe we should consider the option of tunneling into the second tier rather assaulting up it.
The Final Citadel, quite frankly, will not be possible to capture quickly, not without a significant commitment of Astartes or other specialist forces. Therefore, unless one of the above is aquired and as much as it pains me to admit it, this final stage, at least, will most likely come to a plain and simple siege. I would recommend attempts be made to negotiate the remaining garrison's surrender and attempt to avoid needlessly wasting Guardsmen lives, but I do not think that this will bear much fruit considering the likelihood of the remaining troops by this stage being predominantly T'au.

"That concludes my briefing on Fort Ko'Var; I hope to see all of you again for our inevitable victory toast in that fortress's command center." Colonel Arvin finished up. "I would also like to give my personal thanks to Colonel Lilzton and TF Liberation, as well Captains Pekala and Vanian's Rebel Companies for providing much of this information."
"Now, with all of that said, I assume you all have questions or comments to make. The floor is now open..."

2024.05.14 21:52 tbielecki New Build Sump and Weeper Question

We are in the process of building a home in SW Ontario after demolishing an existing house on the same foundation. We took everything down to the concrete, cut off the back foundation wall and added more foundation to expand the footprint and poured a new floor to match existing. A new sump pit was added in the new part of the basement.
As part of the process on the recommendation of the builder there was a new weeper installed around the whole foundation old and new and fed into a new sump pit. So far so good.
Old house had a sump pit which remained and was disconnected from the weeper.
The grading is not yet completed and eavestroughs not on, but the house is sealed, foundation waterproofed/wrapped.
Now when it rains, the old sump which is only open to the gravel under the old slab (10 feet from the new exterior wall) fills up through the disconnected weeper connection and water seems to seep through the saw cuts in the new part of the foundation. Also - I am not seeing come into the new sump pit through the 4” weeper, only through the holes drilled in the sides of the sump pit which pick up water from the gravel around it.
Builder keeps dismissing this as a concern and insists that grading and eves will solve this issue - but I’m not convinced. If lack of grading was the problem the. I should still be seeing the new sump fill up first.
Yes I can install a second pump in the old sump pit (which is what I have been doing to keep the basement dry) but if the new system was working correctly - I shouldn’t need to do this
Am I missing something? Is there someone I can call for a second opinion?
PS The Builders contract was only to get the house closed in which we have almost reached and he is looking to get paid out.

2024.05.14 21:21 subarunights Jewelry missing from check-in luggage

I came back from Punta Cana through WestJet. We had a flight from the Punta Cana airport to Toronto, then to Edmonton.
When we got home, I opened my suitcase (that i’m sharing with my sister) and noticed the little orange envelopes with our souvenirs were ripped and scattered all over and our jewelry pouch was zipped open. Earrings were scattered all over the suitcase. The next morning I went through the bag three times to throughly check. I checked and shook clothing and noticed that two of my golden necklaces were gone. One of these was only about 20 CAD but the other was 50 USD and was bought from the trip. I can’t find it anywhere. My sister also couldn’t find her graduation necklace (145 CAD) and a bracelet she bought (50 USD).
I’m aware that I will never see these items again, however, do I have grounds to make a case requesting compensation for the lost items?
ALSO: if you’re here to tell me i learnt my lesson by bringing expensive jewelry, I brought a fake gold 20$ necklace (which isn’t too bad if i lost) and got something at the resort to bring home. Please save any lectures.

2024.05.14 21:16 StinkySauk Feasibility of affordable small scale architectural homes

I am a young profesional who still has a lot to learn, but I have experience with construction both through renovations and detailing in practice. I have a general understanding of what a lot of things cost, and what all goes into getting a house built.
My question is, is it feasible to build an Affordable (~300k not including utility hook ups and land) ~1500sqft architectural home in the Midwest. I know the price varys by location, but just assume non glamourous typical suburban/ semi rural area (somewhere around 200sqft)
By Architectural I mean Advanced framing possibly SIPs or maybe CLT structure (high performance envelope) with above builders grade finishes like standing seam cladding or shou sugi ban, aluminum windows, wood flooring, maybe interior plywood cladding. at a small scale like 1500sqft
I am not concerned with resale value of comps or acquiring a loan. This is a bit of a figurative question just out of curiosity and possibly helping my folks build a nice place down the road. I just want to know if this is even in the ballpark of feasibility whether that means I'd have to get a bit creative about sourcing materials, or even do the contracting or some construction myself.

2024.05.14 21:13 Extra_Watercress_639 4090 7800x3d Build. Any Suggestions?

I'm planning to go down to microcenter tomorrow to put together the following build.
The PC will primarily be for VR gaming in DCS and MSFS. Would like to know if anybody has any suggestions before I pull the trigger.
Also have a few questions:
For storage, I chose the the Samsung - 990 PRO 4TB Samsung V NAND TLC NAND PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 Internal SSD. Would it be better to get two 2 TB SSDs instead?
Ideally I would like 64GB (32x2) 6000 cl 30 RAM. Does anybody have an experience with any ram kits that are stable with the ASUS B650E-F ROG strix mb?
Do I still have to worry about the board frying the CPU when using EXPO or has those issues been fixed?
Thanks

2024.05.14 21:11 jdoza_89 Building inspector

Building inspector
Hello all, I’m located in the Clarksville TN area. I need some help finding someone to inspect a deck with a cover I recently built. Building and codes did the frame inspection and said I would need a letter from a builder to make sure the structure can support its weight, is what I understood. I called around several home builders but they say they don’t provide that kind of service. I was wondering if I’m going about it the wrong way. it is the first thing he wrote on the inspection sheet. The other one has been taken care of.
Thank you I advance, and sorry if it sounds confusing, I myself am pretty confused about how to proceed.
Thank you.

2024.05.14 20:57 HubertP123 New and lost.

Hi guys, I am new into kettlebells. I’m 25, 193cm (6’3 ish I guess) and 88kg (195lbs). I am generally speaking in a decent shape. I make around 8,5-9k steps daily. Before pandemic I used to weight 65kg (143lbs). During lockdown I trained with barbells and dumbbells for like 6-7 months and got to 82kg (180lbs). Then I went back to Uni where I couldn’t continue due to lockdown etc. I’ve never got back to that regularity bar summer holidays at home (so 2 months tops), cause I’ve always been weirdly anxious about public gyms. I picked up different hobbies like MMA or running but couldn’t stick to it because I didn’t like it or injuries etc. This year I decided to give a gym another chance and I’ve been fairly consistent doing 2-4 FBW training per week. I gained 4kg (9lbs) since January and I am in a decent shape for my standards. Obv my PRs aren’t impressive. BP 45kg (started with 25) / DL 55kg (started with 30) / Squat 50kg (started with 25) done in 4 series 10-12 reps. So there was some constant progress and challenge.
During a bank holiday 2 weeks ago I went home but wasn’t super keen on doing FBWs, so I decided to do some swings (100 in 10 series EMOM) and push-ups, cause I’ve seen some videos about it being king of excercises. It took me arround 20 minutes and I felt very fresh and energized after, probably thanks to aerobic effect of the training. So I decided to give it a go thanks to being really simple and short. I am a med student so time is of an essence. Here I am 3rd week, after 10th session. Started with 8kg quickly moved to 12kg and then after 1 session to 16 which seems to be optimal for now (although it becomes weirdly lighter form session to session). For first 8 I did 10min EMOM and 60-70 push ups divided into 3-4 sets, but last 2 sessions I did some routine from YT: 10 swings on 0:00, 3:00, 6:00 etc. 10 push ups, on 1:30, 4:30, 7:30 etc. 100 swings and 100 push-ups total in 30 mins. Whereas first one was hard today’s was easier, so I think maybe I will do this EMOM method, but I am kind of lost.
I feel like for those 3 weeks I’ve neglected upper body with biceps and shoulders especially. I thought about starting ABC method and I’ve even did some cleans and presses (12kg) from dead weight (without hinge) and felt biceps and shoulders afterwards but I don’t know if it is right moment to do that in a proper way. I saw a video of some guy named Mark Wildman who said KBs are the way to go BUT you should work on swings for year or two before moving to other motions. I don’t know if I misunderstood or maybe it was some marketing stint for his programs but it seems odd to be honest.
So here is my question. What would you guys suggest to work on? 3-4 times ~30-40 min. I don’t care about bodybuilder physique but it would be nice to have proportional body and whereas my legs look more defined my upper body (maybe besides back) looks worse. And what about chest? I’be seen a lot of you guys here to have great physique of healthy and athletic person not necessarily body builders. And this is what I am trying to achieve. Obviously I am aware that is a long process but I am looking for guindance. I think it is good activity for me because eventually I can move entirely to my apartment instead of paying membership and wasting time for commmuting.
