I’ve completed the 23-24 FAFSA form and I was offered only a loan. I then looked over the form again, I noticed a few mistakes and corrected them. After I submitted my corrections I was offered a pell grant. The problem is the financial aid office for my school said that they only got the first form and can only see that I was offered a loan. Asking for my dad who is almost sixty never finished school just got a certification in some kind of machinery relating to ACs he has been getting jobs mainly based off work experience (he works with machinery putting large machine together to be shipped off currently) he is thinking of either charging career paths or branching put into something else by going back to school for something my community College has the free tuition thing and I have had good experience there so he is thinking of apply if he can just pick something to do.
He needs a career that he is able to sit occasionally as he has bad knees. He has experience working with machinery and first aid medical knowledge and skills (he has considered going for some kind of nursing which my school has a extensive program for). He considered pharmacy technician but I was just told by my advisor that he wouldn't really be able to sit and its very fast pass.
So I'm now turning to the internet to help find him a career path. Pay needs to be decent as he would be the sole financial provider once I move out in two to three years when I graduate and my mom is disabled and can't work.

So I was charged with a dui in 08/2019..less safe and drugs in system. 1ST DUI IN GA COVID CAME Pushed courts back 2020 Sept. I went to court and guilty.completed most court ordered processes. Ended up in emergency room got out weeks later still on schedule for probate. Ended up on my deathbed..meningitis, aids,septic..at first the nurses was faxing I was under Dr. Care..as my situation wosened..switch from hospitals to personal care homes..communication with the whole court stopped..I was evicted in hospital so I never went back home car was picked up 90 lbs and losing the fight. Got better...started to improve,learned to stand and walk..was released nov.2022..with recovery until this day..I know nothing ,I feel violated but I fell off the earth for two years so we haven't communicated.Now that I live well with my hiv I still need recovery ,constant dr appointments..The courts and I still haven't settled..but of course no new arrests or charges,I was able to complete the last court ordered process after release from hospital...I always felt the corruption they can do anything to me,but I can produce overwhelming amounts of paperwork,diagnosis everything they need.

What career paths should I focus on?
For background info, i am almost 30 got laid off from a job after 3.5 years as a lab tech. Have (?) a bachelors in chemistry . The question mark is that technically im one class off from getting the diploma due to failing spanish 2 from a bitch of a teacher who failed me manipulating her position. Context can be given if needed. I cant afford the class outside of financial aid but cannot get it without being in full time. I have completed one year of masters. I spent years working in anti cancer medication synthesis research in my undergrad years. I cannot find a chemistry related job. Hell i cannot get a qc tech position that does not pay like shit. I now work as a correctional officer making abit more than a walmart employee. I feel like ive taken so many steps back. I am not sure what to do without spending more years to get back where i was. Just denial after denial in qc positions and chemist position. I have 0 clue where else to translate to. I have skills in tech support, hardware troubleshooting, business management from side things ive done but nothing professional. I have other skills too but nothing professional experience wise. Just feel like im stuck and im just so fed up and depressed. Not as depressed as i once was in grad school where i would think about stepping in front of a train on the daily. But not that many levels off it. I feel like why bother. But if anyone has insight id gladly listen. At this point nothing seems plausible without another decade into starting over and feeling like financially i cant start a family or make any real moves in my life.

You make pretty regrettable mistakes when you're desperate. Unfortunately, desperation would go on to cost me much more than I ever thought possible.
When I was 19 years old my financial situation wasn't great. In what was left of a crumbling home would be my recovering addict twin sister, and myself. The unfortunate state of our home was all from the even more unfortunate passing of our parents just five years prior. The two hadn't died tragically by any means, thankfully. No.. our parents died of old age, a consequence of having us kids later in life, while not being able to take on the financial burden that would be.. us.
My sister was making the early steps into the college lifestyle, doing her best to stay afloat with my support in funding. Money was tight for the two of us, but as she became more well off on her own, the more content she was with severing the last remaining tie to her childhood.. me.
I didn't hate Xel for her decision, if anything I understood her distancing from this life.. even if it saddened me. So then it was just me! Left to a house with a hole in the ceiling. Believe it or not, life wasn't all to bad even with how considerably down in the dumps it otherwise seemed to be.

I think it was the fact that someone, some real person had to have put this paper up on this wall gave me some glimmer of hope for a quick cash grab. Listed bellow the promise of money was details for a number to call regarding interest in the proposition.
I took the bait.. I saw the line, and like some idiot I clamped my teeth down just for that hook to sweep me away.
The corporation I'd come to know as, "The Arsaction," would see me just a week later. There was a brief consultation. They took my weight, age, all things I would've expected. It wasn't until they pulled records regarding my familial situation that I began to find this whole ordeal.. suspicious.
To 'begin' to find things suspicious only at this point is foolish, something I full understand, but I feel the need to reinforce the fact that I, Lex McKarthy, was desperate.
Everything by this point seemed pretty legit. The blood tests, the doctors office, the tests were.. reasonable. What was I to suspect? Everything was so vague, and truth be told I honestly didn't even expect anything to come of this visit. All the doctors, all the consultants seemed so disinterested in my features.. but when they realized I had no one, everything seemed to change.
Suddenly ears perked, suddenly doors closed, suddenly I was.. exactly what they were looking for. Every feature of myself was so painfully average. I was anyman, I was.. nothing. Despite their best efforts to be discreate, I knew it was only the fact that nobody would come looking for me that peaked their interests.
My stomach dropped when I was faced with a pen in my hand, trembling over that NDA. Every fiber of me cursed myself for never considering putting just a minute of research into 'The Arsaction,' however a video briefing would ease my nerves. Nobody knew who The Arsaction was. There was no public record of their existence, and that NDA would make sure that they continued to never exist.
I was stupid, I was irrational, I was in over my head! But I was desperate.. and I had nothing else.
"I have nothing else.. I have nothing else!"
It was a mantra I chanted as I was injected with that substance. The substance that turned my blood orange, made my skin freakishly thin.
And then I went home.
That was it. I was given my sum of money, and I was sent home. They told me I was, "good to go," and no number of questions would get a one of them to speak. I was only met with who I'd assume to be security guiding me out of the building.
Not a word more of what I'd just been injected with, only given instructions to not dwell on mirrors for too long. That was it, just some ominous instructions. So I left, as befuddled as I arrived. Relief washed over me as I made my way home. The anxiety I'd received from such an ominous buildup was all waved by the fact that I was somehow just.. good to go?
Relief quickly turned to panic as the inherent nature of it all being too good to be true set in. I expected to die, I expected some visit from government agents, I expected anything and everything, but as months turned to years.. Nothing ever came of it. No mirror ever caused me any harm, which was its own anxiety I'd have to overcome simply because of the absurd nature or such a request.
I hoped it was.. some prank. Everything was well... for a time. Until my sister called.
I just.. watched the phone ring. My sister, someone who I hadn't spoken to in upwards of 8 years was suddenly ringing me up. When I finally had answered, her question left me speechless.
"Hey Lex. would you happen to remember Mom's recipe for that egg toast? I think I left the cookbook at your place."
I felt my ears ring. The question was so.. casual. She entirely skipped the part where we discussed how she's been, how I'm doing. She spoke to me like we'd hung out only days ago.
At the time I'd thought I was just being dramatic, but looking back on it I can only justify my own hesitation to respond.
"W-..what?"
I stammered like a fool, but I was firm in my disbelief.
"Yeah, it should be in the book on the counter?"
I looked over my shoulder to my kitchen counter, past the toaster I never bought, and over to the book she spoke of. My jaw hung heavy, the whole interaction feeling like a dream.
With one hand I held the phone, and with the other I began to skim the pages of the book letting my eyes linger on mom's cinnamon roll recipe for a bit longer than intended.
"Lex.. are you ok?"
My sister inquired on the other end. I suddenly felt sick.. falling the the ground and laying on my back. This wasn't happening. It never did.
"Lex? Are you alright!?"
My sister repeated back more urgently, followed by her assurance that she would be over soon to check on him. But.. no company ever arrived. After hours the line just dropped, and I fell asleep there on that cold, wooden floor, paralyzed with a feeling I couldn't wrap my head around.

I woke up in my bed in a cold sweat. I checked the time, greeted with a humble 4:37 in the morning. What troubled me was the fact that the date had been set back 7 years.
Of course it wasn't all so clear to me. After 7 long years I'd honestly forgotten about this day. This was the day that I'd set out for my graciously provided $5,000

This is a dream. I convinced myself I hadn't miraculously gone back in time, that 7 years of my life weren't a lie, but if that were the case, why was my blood still that damn orangy hue?
I'm losing sleep over this itch in my brain. It's like some taste of blood in my mouth has soured out the idea that letting my eyelids squeeze shut could further obscure my definite understanding of when I stood.
A day I remember so vividly at the ripe age of 14 years old, now 12 years ago, I awoke to the sweet smell of cinnamon rolls filling the air. All was right with the world, all as I climbed from the messy sheets in my dark room. It was abundantly clear that the bulb of the light beside my bed had burnt out over the course of the night, and the closed blinds didn't aid my vision as I stumbled around my room in search of my door.

My mother had already seen herself off to work by this point, and so I was faced with the responsibilities of seeing myself out to the bus. Some routine I'd become far too used to; The minutes passed, leaving me with nothing to do but wait by the door for a buss that would never arrive.
If the door being shut and the cinnamon rolls being a different meal entirely had left me with a minor confusion, then suddenly being seated in the passenger seat of my mother's car listening to the nonchalant complaints from my twin sister about the nuances freshmen year math shot me into a disarray I couldn't possibly quantify.
I think one of the scariest things for me is the fact that I thought nothing of it. I hadn't freaked out. No scene was made to express what should have been one of the more disturbing instances of my childhood.
I could chalk up the mistaking breakfast for something else as me just misremembering events.. But something unmistakable is the fact that somehow my mom both never drove me to school, yet the fact that she.. always had.

The Mandela Effect is something that I feel needs no introduction. To those who don't know, the Mandela Effect, in brief, is a phenomenon that incurs when you "misremember" something. Think of a card, now imagine you saw that card as a child and it had a single heart drawn on it's center. Now, years later you are discussing this card with someone else just for them to tell you that the heart you swear, the heart you KNOW you saw.. was a diamond. You tell them they are wrong, you shake your head, chuckle nervously.. But then they present you with the card.
Your stomach drops. This can't be the card, there is no way! Only it is the card, and when you come to the realization that it is in fact the card you'd seen as a child, you are filled with a mix of confusion, fascination, and quite possibly denial.
Most often, the Mandela Effect is associated with silly things like books titles, and board game mascots, but my experience is far beyond such things. It's the only phenomenon I've found that seems even within the realm of explaining my predicament. Problem is, the more I think, the more is wrong.
All of me wishes it all ended with that one childhood experience! But it didn't. In fact, the more I consider my childhood, the more contradictions I notice. Part of me believes I could handle this if it was limited to my childhood, but it's not. This.. experience... It effects my every day!
I'm not losing my mind, I'm just picking up crumbs that I never dropped. Not.. losing my mind, just finding more "mind" than the inventory should account for.

Hi all, I just checked my email and saw this regarding my financial aid:

Am I understanding correctly that ALL of my financial aid is being withheld because it's $1 over my maximum subsidized allowance? I'm going to call my Enrollment Counselor and/or Financial Services to get it explained further (it's currently past 2 a.m. local time for me), but I figured I'd fish for answers here first.
The rest of the email said I could resolve this overage one of three ways: loan consolidation to repay the overage, pay the overage directly to my lender, or request a Reaffirmation Confirmation letter from previous school(s) that awarded me loans. The first two options say they could take up to several months to resolve. The email concludes with saying that my loan application will be processed only after the overage is cleared.
I was already Cleared to Start prior to this email and I was gearing up to start my orientation tomorrow. I'm already a month behind when I wanted to start due to "an internal system error that knocked me off course" (my EC's words) and forced me to take a June 1 start date instead of my desired May 1 one; if I'm going to be delayed even longer over one gotdamn dollar I'm going to lose it. :)
I can't really bank on using my own funds instead of financial aid currently due to unreliable income... Can't I just request that I want to use one less dollar of what what granted to me or something? lol

31 F, southern US here. I messed up my 20s badly due to undiagnosed autism and not knowing how to deal with things correctly + no parental guidance. Out of high school I had a free ride to university and dropped out early due to mental health issues. I didn’t know how financial aid worked and was afraid of loans so I just worked various dead-end jobs for years thinking I could never return to school since I lost my scholarships. At 27 I finally got over my fear and went back to community college for an associate’s degree in web development. It was so easy, I graduated with a 4.0 but I legitimately cannot really code at a professional level. I applied to a few places but I quickly lost motivation after receiving some interviews that went nowhere, or receiving coding tests that were extremely above my level.
I looked into getting a bachelor’s degree in computer science only to learn that almost none of my credits would transfer to university. Also my credits from AP tests I took in high school have apparently expired. I have to start from square zero. I have a job and make money but part of me is disappointed. I want to be proud of my job I guess. If I start over and graduate at around 36, is it worth the debt to try to get a job nearing 40? I’m thinking of getting into copy-editing since they seem to have a lot of remote work. I’ve honestly lost interest in coding but open to adjacent work, just not sure what that looks like. I'm a 21 year old college student and last semester my brother was diagnosed with leukemia, the financial strain that was put on my parents no longer allowed them to assist in paying for school. Because I don't qualify for FASFA or any financial aid and their credit scores are in the tank (they're extremely financially irresponsible) I also don't qualify for private student loans. I now owe my Univeristy $17,000+ and they're threatening to send it to collections which would absolutely ruin my credit score and any chance of me wanting to get an apartment of my own or a credit card. I make about $2k a month (interning) I pay $500 a month but it's just nowhere enough to contribute or stop them from sending it to collections. Any advice? Would taking out a personal loan be worth the interest rates? If so what company do you all suggest? My credit history is limited and I'm sitting at about 620 (not great know). Pls help!!!

Okay, im sick of this. On my cunyfirst i checked on my financial aid, and now it says that for the Spring semester 2024, $3,465 total due. First of all my fafsa already covered the tuiton for this semester, and this 3,465 is literally the same amount of money as the 2023-24 tap money, which was disbursed on May 6th and I got an email saying i will be given that money as a refund check. Im so stressed man, and im sick of worrying of financial aid. Any idea whats going on? Again the money that says total due is my tap money. I dont know how that makes sense🤦🏽‍♂️

Hi all,
I was just curious as to if the merit/scholarship money offered on the financial aid form sent to us sometime between now and the last 2 weeks so is our FINAL AMOUNT. (Not counting loans.)
I’m coming from single-parent income and overall had received pretty good scholarship money at all other colleges I applied too (including other UC’s)
For example, does UCI not do the middle class scholarship..? A friend of mine received it for UCSC and UCSB and i was given it by UCSB but i don’t see it on my financial offer from UCI.
Is there any other ways to potentially increase my scholarship/merit amount?? UCI offered me close to nothing while I got quite a bit offered at every other UC I applied to (SB, SD etc) and elsewhere so it just really threw me off since UCI was my goal school and I was really hoping to have the total cost be around the same as for the other UC’s I had applied to like SB as I really don’t wanna be taking out a ton more in loans at UCI than I would elsewhere, if possible.
Already submitted my SIR so I’ll likely be going to UCI with the intention of SWE anyways but just wanted to know.
