2024.05.15 02:36 majoroofboys A Guide on What to Do At College if You Want To Succeed

There was a post that was recently posted and it's been asked a ton: "How do I get a computer science related job after I graduate from KSU?". I thought I'd share this with everyone because I've been down this path and managed to make it on the other side. This will be a long explanation and hopefully, can serve as some sort of guide for students. That being said, things are subjective and this is not the holy grail of how to make it. You might find all, some or none of it useful. I encourage testimonials and whatnot in the comments. YMMV

Some information about me: I've been around here for a while. I was a student not too long ago, studied computer science for my bachelors. After graduating, I work in FAANG and have worked in big tech for a while. No, I don't work at Amazon. I am a senior software engineer. I touch frontend & backend technologies. I participate in hiring frequently.
Over the years and while attending here, there's been a weird disconnect between students, goals and how to achieve them in tech. Goals can be anywhere from learning new technologies, getting internships to securing a full time job before or after you graduate. As much as I would love for there to be a path where you can do minimum effort and still succeed, there isn't. A lot of you seem to not realize that. Getting a degree in this field is not enough. Doing projects that show no passion / interests is not enough. Being stuck on tutorials for years is not enough.
This field is much like a sport. There are very few people that can just be great without any effort. You have to be consistent. Four years is not a lot of time. It goes by super fast. If you constantly push things back and you do not take the time to learn the fundamentals outside the classroom, you will not succeed in this field. This field is at a point where there's so many of you. Every post on LinkedIn and news articles said "hey, this field is a gold mine and you'll make six figures out the gate". For a time, maybe that was somewhat true. As of writing this, it's not. You're going against people who have: better schools, better experience, etc. You have to find a way to diversify yourself early. If you can't diversify, you're going to be in a tough place later down the road. Knowledge not something you can just consume in less than an hour and pass an interview. You have to know it well. If you don't, there's someone else who will.
There's an interesting connotation in life that you're either born super smart or an absolute idiot and that you have to be smart to do computer science / programming. There are people with raw IQ that can consume things like no one you've ever met but, that's such a rarity that there's no realistic use in using that as a data point. If you ever took the time to ask someone who you thought was really good at something, they would tell you something along the lines of: I love what I do and I spent a lot of time doing this. There are hours and hours of time people put into passions that you don't / will never see. Meaning that they can no-life this shit for days on end and still come back and do it some more. It doesn't mean that you can't succeed if don't do that but, computing / programming is a very boring field if you do not enjoy it. I would seriously contemplate why you're doing through this. If you're doing it for money and only money, you're going to end up miserable. No amount of money can make you do something you hate. It'll wear you down both mentally and physically. If you're doing this because it's a mix of passion and money, you're like everyone else and you gave yourself a better shot. It's a mental thing. Don't climb uphill if you rather sit at the bottom. There's nothing wrong with that. But, don't do it.
Additionally, college is what you make of it. Blaming professors or the program (while I do agree sometimes) is not great. Blaming professors that don't speak English is a cop out. If you work in tech, you'll be interacting with a lot of people from other countries. Professors and TAs can only teach you so much. Classes are meant to give you a taste of what it's like in that domain / space. It's not meant to fix all your issues and show you the way. That's for you to do on your own time. Take accountability of your own success, explore the internet (it's free) and lock in. Stop looking for opportunities to find you. Actively seek them out yourself.
Make connections with people. I cannot stress how important this is. Especially on the Marietta campus, there's a lot of you that go to class, stingers / food, run to class and immediately start gaming and think that when your classes are over, you're done for the day. That's such a bad mindset. Make connections with people. A lot of people say "there's nothing to do at KSU and there's no life on campus". That's not true. Join a club that interests you. Get close to the people in that club who actively attend and build a personal relationship. If there's no club with your interest, make a club. You can make one officially through KSU or add a discord server to the student hub and go from there. You'll meet some really cool people. Lots of my connections have come from randomly showing up to a club, getting out of my comfort zone and weirdly enjoying it.
Brush up on your interview skills. Technical and behavioral abilities matter. Culture fit matters. A lot of you seem to walk around with almost zero personal hygiene. Clean yourself up, practice talking to people and get places. There's been this stigma that culture fit doesn't matter as much as technical and if I have great technical abilities, they'll just accept me. I can tell you for an absolutely fact that I have thrown out / tossed out resumes from highly technical individuals that had zero people skills. If you can't communicate and clean up, you're more of a risk than someone who does all those things and has a bit less technical ability. Know more than just leetcode. Learn system design. Take a course / watch a video on Linux and bash. Do not be afraid of the command line interface. Take feedback seriously. Do not argue with people. If you future manager / colleague tells you that you need to work on things, work on those things. There's nothing worth than a co-worker in denial.
As for internships and full time opportunities, there's a few classes at KSU that you really want to master: Data structures, Algorithm Analysis, Operating Systems and Discrete math. If you're in a major that doesn't have those classes, spend the extra money and take those classes. Do not take them online if you can afford to come in person. Take the hardest / best professors for those courses. Super important. Leetcode is quite literally, those two classes merged together in a prompt-style format. If you do not understand those concepts, you will not make it in this field.
Data Structures - Varies. Rate my professor.
Algorithm Analysis - Varies. Rate my professor.
Operating Systems - Do not take Carla McManus if you want to learn the concepts fluently.
Discrete Math - Andy Wilson.
Having solid resume is super important. Many people who don't secure things and get automatically rejected, etc have horrible resumes. Spend the money to get your resume professionally written. Templates are cool but, they don't convey information well. Don't put every achievement ever on there. The rule of "only one page" is complete and total bullshit. If you have projects and prior work experience related to the role, list it down. Don't conserve space for the sake of keeping it one page. I know the career center actively tells people on handshake to keep it to one page. They're wrong. I landed internships consistently at big tech / FAANG for years with a 1.5 / 2 page resume. Do not lie on your resume. If you can't solve a leetcode hard consistently with the technology / language of choice, you don't know it well enough. I have interviewed a ton of students that list they know C or Python and can't write recursion or gives me a solution in O(N^2) or worse. Aim for O(N), use a hashmap / hash table when you can and do it in a language that doesn't make you fight the runtime / compiler. Trust me, we know when you're making shit up. If you don't know something say it and then, tell them to explain more. This way, you show that you have the capability to learn. Ask smart questions. Do not ask questions that have already been answered. Take notes.
On your resume, experience is only real experience if you get a W2. If you don't get a W2, you can't claim it as professional experience. A lot of background checks these days are drilling down on incorrect information. I have seen instances where people lie, get an offer, company finds out through a comprehensive background check and their offer is gone. Do not put the fate of your future income on a lie. I cannot stress this enough. A lot of students actively lie.
Secondly, the trick to getting a good internship is timing. A lot of you want until Nov - Dec to find an internship and then, throw your hands up when no one responds. That's not a good mindset. Solid internships are recruiting in end of July to August. By September, the amount of open spots are extremely thin. Local companies tend to look for internships during this time. Internships are about luck after that. Reach out to people in your circle to increase your odds. A referral goes a long way. Prior experience through projects that are complex and unique go a long way. It's a numbers game. Don't aim for the highest thing ever without some sort of referral. You can still apply but, do not expect much from it. Start small and work your way up. It's extremely rare to go from KSU undergrad sophomore to Google. It takes a lot of outside work. If you happen to land the internship, make sure that you get recommendations at the end. Having real people who you worked with in a professional capacity that can vouch for you is huge. If you're in your junior year and you get an internship, make sure you try to secure a full time offer. Loop in your boss, mentor, etc. Make your expectations clear. Reach their expectations and beyond.
Thirdly, full time opportunities are rare and most new grads that get hire come from the previous year's intern pool. If you don't get converted, you have to make up that time searching for a job during your senior year. If you do get converted, keep looking because companies are flaky these days. Always have a Plan B & C. Never fully count on Plan A. If you don't have internships across four years, it's over for you. From a hiring manager perspective, it's an absolute red flag when we come across someone with a degree and no internships. That's effectively going against the point of college. You'll have to settle for crumbs and crawl your way up. Very few make it out of that hole. Especially, now.
Do not wait until after you graduate to find a job. Jan - Early May are when most companies finalize budgets and hire. If you wait until after May, you'll have to wait until after the Summer and possibly, October for hiring to pick up again. Proactivity is nothing but good for you. If you can't be proactive then, you won't succeed in this field. Referrals matter but, personal connections with the hiring manager / recruiter are much, much better. Work your way up. Don't discount an opportunity because it doesn't pay well. Get as much experience as you can and bounce around. Do not go into the gate thinking you're going to make $120K - $140K / yr out the gate. You're most-likely going to make $68K - $75K / yr depending on the location. Do not listen to LinkedIn posts that claim all this cool shit and how to do it. Trust me, it's bullshit. Don't pay attention to it. It's a brag-fest. It's a long road. Start walking on it early and you'll reach the other side when it matters most.
The reality of this economy is that highly experience people have been laid off. Those people are applying to entry level roles and those roles are being filled for cheap. In addition, watch out for fake postings and scam jobs. If you take a contract job, always keep looking. Avoid jobs that will providing "training" before you even start. Avoid jobs that are less than week old. You want things that are fresh. It's a numbers game. Apply for 300+ jobs every week until you get a response back. Don't be discouraged by employers who don't respond or ghost you. Keep at it. It's a mental game.
I think if you do these things, you'll end up at a great spot after four years. If you're just now coming across this and you've been slacking, use this an opportunity to wake the fuck up, light a fire under your ass and lock in. If you're still in denial after reading this post and you have yet to get anything, light a fire under your ass, come to terms with it and lock in.
If you're in it to do zero work, cheat on your classes, mess around for four years and somehow wing a high salary, good luck. You're fucked. You're so fucked, in-fact, that you'll be wondering "why me and why is it so hard" for a long ass time.

Create a basic design. It won't be perfect. Mix-and-match different services and know why, how and tradeoffs between each approach.
Programming language is dependent on the role and what the company favors. Common ones are Java, C++, Python, C#, JavaScript / TypeScript and C. You can look at jobs that you would like to work someday, look at the requirements and use that as a basis on where to start learning. Things constantly change. Fundamentals build up on each other. Start small. Work your way up. Do not dream big. Dream realistic. Everyone is different.

2024.05.15 02:34 Marzetty23 Life is very difficult right now

Just recently got a new job. I had been looking for over a year, and it's the first opportunity presented to me. I'm now only 2 days in and all I can think is I wish I never saw the email and was still jobless..
Trying to finish my AA so I can raise my GPA and pursue a bachelor's and even masters possibly close to full time. However I am low on money because I had not worked since 2022.
I was very overweight and had extreme mental issues. I fixed a lot of the physical stuff, and mental stuff has got slightly better do to bettering my life style and some medical diagnosis, but still not great.
I needed money though. What little I had is all but gone, and my mom has been letting me live at home for free. I spent what little I had on classes, and even then it was not enough for my last spring semester and the current summer one. My mom also assisted with those too.
I feel like such a a freeloader because I was not providing any money to myself, nor her and she was letting me live here for free and eat her groceries. It disgusted me, but I was in such a rough position working a job was impossible for me.
Now I got this new job. Working in IT for a college specializing in Dental medicine, and I am only 2 days in and hate it. Now a huge reason is because of 2 things outside of the job, and both sort of affecting each other.
1.) my exercise routine. I was biking 100 miles a week and working out 4 days a week on a very religious schedule, and seeing great results. My body fat percent was going down wonderfully, and I felt amazing health wise. Now I cannot do that unless I want to sleep less than 8 hours a night, which is already hard for me to get, especially because of my extreme anxiety and depressive issues. 2.) school. I am still 21 credit hours away from finishing my AA. I am currently taking pre calc, math being a subject I am very not good at, and I have almost no time to do it. I come home from work, and immediately heat up food and sit down to try and get in a lecture and finish homework, and I barely get it done. I have no time to workout or ride my bike or any exercise after work because it takes me all of my time to heat up dinner, prepare lunch for the next day, clean what needs cleaned, shower and do all the pre calc that needs done.
I am terrified the mental progress I have made is going out the door, as well as the physical fitness, and I'm scared I will fail precalculus lowering my GPA and forcing me to retake it. (Also wasting 500 bucks).
On top of all of that, the job has been nuts. I am 2 days in, and already my entire department seems to hate life. The IT director constantly jokes about firing people and us, all the people underneath him talk shit about each other, there is 0 onboarding process for a new hire, and I'm already doing so many projects I have had to skip lunch, and then get asked by 5 different hr people why I skipped lunch. They tell me to stay and do work and then ask me why I'm still here. I am also being told that as an hourly employee only supposed to work Monday through Friday, that June 2nd I have to work all day Sunday for the students graduation even though I have an exam due that night. So not only am I just out of the blue being forced to work a 6th day that week, but I have to come home and immediately take a pre calc test I will most likely be barley prepared for.
My mom tells me " if you think you need tutoring you should do it" like when the hell am I supposed to have time for that ?? I don't even have time to do anything else.
This is the first week on the job, I will be lucky if I finish all of my homework before Friday when it's do, and even then, I have an exam this Sunday already and will probably have to spend the entire day Saturday and Sunday preparing for it, and skip any chance and physical exercise, or spend time exercising and risk having to stay up all night and being under prepared.
My anxiety is through the fucking roof. I used to have panic attacks constantly, and luckily I have not reached that point, but I feel like my blood pressure is so high that my veins are about to Burst.
I mean I'm 2 fucking days in... How am I supposed to do this for the rest of precalculus. I mean honestly if I make it through this class and pass it I don't think any other class will lose a threat, but it's just insane...
Idk how people do this. I don't get why our society makes it impossible for people to find a job and work hard and have that job make time for school. I have to deal with corporate ass holes who want me to work to the bone just so I can afford to fail my classes... Like what the fuck.
I felt horrible being in the situation I was in not providing any money to myself or my mom... But fuck I want to literally blow my brains out now. Maybe it will get more relaxed, but I can't see that happening whatsoever until I get deeper into precalculus and see if i will even pass it ..
I have 0 people to count on too. No one is supportive whatsoever. No one to hug, or get reassurance from. My mom just says this is how it is and doesn't care. I can't talk to a therapist because anytime I say anything more than I'm sad they want to lock me in a psych ward because no one gives a rats ass about mental health in Florida, or America. I have no friends in real life within 500 miles of me. It's just me.
Idk what to do. Idk what to believe in. Idk how to calm myself, or cope. I can't do any of the things that we're making my life better.
The one thing I have still going strong is diet. I also wake up with enough time before work to at least go on a quick jog before I get ready and leave, but it isn't enough.
I feel like If I can't find some sort of relief or balance I'm going to be right back to crying and panic attacks In the bathroom in a matter of weeks.
I honestly hate life. I wish I could go back to younger me and tell him to sweat blood trying to get into a university with full scholarships so I could pursue The education I dream of full time and find a job I truly enjoy. That is still my long term goal, but I feel like I'm killing myself to get there.
I know so many people do stuff like this and make it though, but so all of those people have decades of issues with major anxiety and depression? Have they all thought about suicide since they were 13 ?
Maybe they have, but for fucks sakes if they have can they at least hug me or just reassure me everything will be okay ???
Because life is very difficult right now.
Also I typed this on my phone, so if some words seem out of place, I probably missed a letter here or there and phone auto corrected.

2024.05.15 02:29 RichellaMadden Sedation Dentistry vs. General Anesthesia: A Comprehensive Comparison

Sedation dentistry, an intricately devised methodology aimed at assuaging dental trepidation, proffers diverse merits to recipients. It facilitates the endurance of intricate dental processes with nominal unease, emerging as a precious instrument in fostering holistic dental well-being. Apprehension concerning needles or odonatological implements finds effectual management through the application of sedative agents administered preceding appointments, certifying an ordeal devoid of discomfort. For individuals gripped by dental aversions, sedation odontology assumes the role of a catalyzing agent, propelling them beyond fears and prompting the pursuit of indispensable dental maintenance.
Understanding Sedation Methods
  1. Oral Sedation: A conscious sedation method involving oral medication, such as triazolam (Halcion), which belongs to the Benzodiazepines class. This induces a calming effect, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. Nitrous oxide gas is an alternative for needle-phobic patients.
  2. Nitrous Oxide Gas: Commonly known as "laughing gas," nitrous oxide produces mild sedative effects. Administered through a mask over the nose, it allows dentists to control sedation levels, ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure.
  3. IV Sedation: Providing deep sedation, IV sedation is ideal for complex dental procedures. Administered through a forearm tube, it allows precise control over sedative amounts, reducing the risk of complications. This method is often preferred for pediatric patients requiring extensive dental work.

2024.05.15 02:20 smray66 Wife of a Veteran asking for guidance

I am a wife of a Veteran. I was on here back in Feb and March and many of you were quite helpful when my husband went to ER and was admitted. Here are details leading to my questions:
- May 1986, my husband sustained a compression fracture to 3 vertebrae in roll-over accident while serving on active duty. Was given 20% service rating when discharged.
- 2001 was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor (Glioblastoma). Did chemo and radiation and lived the next 23 years with no deficits or recurrence.
- Started having back, tailbone and foot pain early 2023 and found out through another Veteran he should be applying for a higher service rating.
- After a scan Aug 2023 was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis.
- Using a local VSO he applied for an increase based on prognosis.
- Dec 2023, VA approved for back diagnosis, denied for tailbone/ coccyx and foot pain. Received a service connection rating of 60%.
- Feb. 2024 experienced seizures for the first time in his life. ER visit determine recurrence of brain tumor. Had craniotomy to remove tumor.
- April 25, 2024, after lengthy hospital stay recovering, he was transferred to an inpatient intensive Neurological rehabilitation center and is still currently there.
- Since I was not around when my husband had his car accident, his family told me he did not remember who he was when he woke up in the hospital and did not remember the accident. They believe I should try to prove his accident definitely had trauma to his head which very well could have lead to his brain cancer years later. May be a long shot.
- Small non-VA hospital where he was taken to in 1986 no longer have his medical records from the accident. After 3 days in that hospital, he was transferred to William Beaumont Army Medical Center in Fort Bliss, TX. Have not called yet to see if they have kept medical records from 1986.
- Husband’s Neuro-Oncologist said “sure a head trauma could potentially lead to brain cancer, anything is possible, as we don’t know what causes brain cancer.”
- I also believe he had PTSD, as he lost his best friend who was driving the vehicle and could never talk to me about it. He said it triggered too much pain and was traumatized when his best friends mother said to him (out of grief I’m sure), “I guess we will never really know who was driving the vehicle.”
I have tried to watch advice given by other Veterans on YouTube, but there is so much info it is kind of overwhelming. I thought of hiring a 3rd party, but again so many and how do you know which are actually legit. So a Veteran friend recommended I start off with the VSO and see what she says and if that doesn’t’ work, then hire a 3rd party.
Since my husband has memory and cognitive deficits right now, I am the one who will be trying to get his service connection rating increased. I do have medical POA for my husband and I did submit Form 21-0845 (Auth to Disclose Info to me). I have a meeting with the same VSO next week Wed. May 22 to discuss appealing the denial on tailbone and foot pain. I have access to his VA portal and could not find explanation for denial of tailbone and foot pain. Also the fact that my husband has terminal brain cancer and is no longer employable.
1. I know brain cancer will be a hard thing to prove a connection with his car accident while in service. But back in 1986 I don’t think head traumas were given as much concern as they are now. Do any of you think there are ways to prove this, or does it even need to be proved with a terminal diagnosis?
2. Any advice when speaking with the VSO on what I should say and not say when trying to appeal the tailbone and foot pain and unemployable?
Thanks in advance.

2024.05.15 02:14 cantkeepU Got a Cease and Desist from Former Employer

tl;dr - I got fired 7 months ago and today I received a cease and desist from my former employer’s lawyer, accusing me of logo misuse and harassing former colleagues, including bizarre claims of "misdirected revenge." I've never harassed employees and need advice on how to proceed.
Hey everyone,
A little background - I worked in marketing for a home builder for about a year and a half. Last October, I took a bereavement day, and when I came back, I found out I was let go because I missed a meeting I was supposed to lead on that bereavement day. That was seven months ago, and since then, I've moved on to a new job and tried to put everything behind me.
But then, out of the blue, I received this official-looking cease and desist letter from my old employer's lawyer. They're saying I misused their logo on my portfolio site, which, to be honest, I did. After I left the company, I wanted to update my portfolio to showcase the work I did for them, so I included some stuff with their logo. I know I wasn't exactly allowed to, but I had a lot of work from my time there, and I was just trying to find a new job after getting let go. So for now, I password protected my site until I can figure out how to blur out all the logos.
That was honestly to be expected. What really has me confused are their other accusations of harassing former colleagues. The letter says I did all sorts of crazy things like “misdirected revenge”, publishing employees' cell phone numbers to mess with vehicle sales (???), and registering personal addresses and phone numbers with sales services. I've never even heard of anything like that, let alone done it. I'm totally confused as to where these accusations are coming from.
And isn't it kinda odd that they're checking out my personal website seven months after I left?
I'm feeling pretty lost and confused about all this. Should I get a lawyer and respond to all this, or just it go? Any advice or similar experiences would be a huge help.
Thank you!

2024.05.15 02:13 FredTheCat24 Prospective Political Science PhD Help

Hello all,
I am a prospective political science PhD student looking for advice and help, particularly in what programs to apply to and the chances of getting in. I am interested in American politics, particularly centered on elections, representation, and voting.
I have a bachelors in political science and masters in public administration (with two certificates in nonprofit management and genocide/mass atrocity prevention) from SUNY Binghamton (Binghamton University), both with a 4.0.
I have not taken the GRE yet (so no scores rn), but am taking the summer to study. I feel like my letters of recommendation will be pretty good as well and feel strong about my writing sample. I have no official research or publications, but am working on the latter.
So far my professors have recommended schools like the Ivys, MIT, NYU, SUNY Stony Brook, etc..
What programs do you all recommend and do you think I can get into them?
Thank you in advance

2024.05.15 02:10 Environmental_Ad654 TDIU Reservist AdSep w no benefits

Hi. So, bear with me. I was AD 8 yrs and reservist for 5. Last year I had submitted an MRR to be able to stay near my provider for treatment for my anxiety. Weeeellp they decided to kick me out. They said my disability wasn’t service related even though I had already been rated for it with the VA beforehand?? They said they didn’t see me remaining in as reasonable bc I’ve had this issue and it’s not getting better.
Anywho, now I have no way to pay for therapy (my providers are no longer in network). I was formally diagnosed with generalized anxiety for the VA at 50%. I’m planning to file for an increase due to secondary claims for PTSD and (maybe) TMJ if that’s allowed. I was informally diagnosed by my therapist with PTSD due to episodes and flashbacks. Which correlates to the anxiety and stress from clenching. My jaw is sooo tight on one side that my ear pops and feels stuffy. I went to the dentist and they made me a mouth guard from keeping from grinding my teeth but all I do is bite down on that all night. 😑 In fact, I’m barely eating lately bc my mouth gets so tired of chewing. So I should prob make another appt actually.
Additionally, my psychiatrist (I see Both) just changed my meds to work with the anxiety as well. His letter may have done me in with the Navy tbh bc he was very adamant that I remain in treatment. I’m not crazy. I just need a lil help to get better. I feel like I have enough juice to prove the need for 100% but like my MRR package .. I have little to no guidance.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should approach doing the TDIU? Can you do the TDIU while waiting to apply for increase rating of disability (for my anxiety)? Would I have to actually submit the employment verification to the navy or can I just show my MRR form decision? (I already tried to appeal so only option is court and not really an option.)
Halp pls.

2024.05.15 02:09 Penske_Penguin Honors impeachment

(Updated a misspelled word)
If you think of honors, you would think that it would be a place where kids will be able to learn without disruptions, but this is not the case - "unsmart" and "dumb" kids fill the honors system with their unique troubles, disrupting classes, and generally being a nuisance.
My solution to this problem is honors impeachment. Similar to a presidential impeachment or a ousting within the government, series of inquiries and votes will decide whether a student should be removed from the honors system or not. The system will require "jury panel" groups of students from every grade (2 groups of 13 and 5 groups of 7 from each grade - groups subject to frequent change), and a impeachment secretary (their job is to organize and facilitate the process that will be explained below). Currently, this will not require an extra room or permanent space.
The system will work like this: First, an inquiry is sent by a student against another student in their official class. The impeachment secretary will check the inquiry to determine whether the inquiry should be dismissed or continue to the voting stage. If it is dismissed, the student must file another inquiry if he wishes to try again. If the inquiry is approved, the official class will hold a vote to decide whether to keep the kid in honors or remove him. There must be at least 70% class approval to remove the kid for the kid to move on to the jury process. If over 50% but less than 70% of the class approve to remove him, a single revote will be considered at the discretion of the impeachment secretary. If the removal vote receives less than 50% approval, the process will end and another inquiry must be filed to start the process over again. If the kid makes it to the jury process after the first vote or the revote, a random group of 7 jurors will decide on the case. They can only decide his removal sentence (innocent verdict prohibited to prevent corruption). The minimum sentence is 2 weeks removal, and the longest/worst is permanent removal for the school year. The impeachment secretary has no control nor authority over the jury panel. Once the kid is sentenced, he may file an appeal by receiving 3 recommendation letters (1 from his past honors teacher, 1 from his current teacher, and 1 from a school official, such as a dean or AP). If he procures these letters, he may file an appeal. A jury panel of 13 will decide whether to keep his sentence or drop it and restore him to his past honors class. The impeachment secretary has the ability to override the jury panel of 13’s decision in this case. Otherwise, the kid must serve his sentence.
This process and proposal may sound crazy, but it has racked a lot of support and comments praising its anti-corruption procedures. An anonymous student of 825 said ”If they make this, we can finally have a perfect class”. Another student from a different class said “There’s no way someone can rig the vote with this”. With the support the program has collected so far, it will be easy, fast, and effective to put this program in place.
Ending, my point is that the school should create a honors impeachment system to remove disruptive or “not supposed to be in honors” kids without much trouble.

2024.05.15 02:09 poplong2003 Would you give up ?

I’ve had the thought of giving up lots of times but some how I pull through and keep going like nothing happened But there is a point where some one can’t take it no more and just wants it to end. You probably wounder what would make me feel such a way so I’ll try out it in short.
I was bullied from a kid up to start of college. My dad died from heart attack when I was 6, my mam went mental and was in hospital for years.my grandad died when I was 8 Then my dog died same time, then had to go live with my nana for years at new school o got bullied at again . Uncle died of cancer at 10 Shortly after my nana died from Amonia, at 12 then had to live with my other nana. My brother took hard core drugs and beat me all the time. Caused me to break a toe and my jaw and cause me to loose a testicle in that phase, round about now my mam is out of hospital and different , she isn’t the same mam I had before my dad died. Struggled for years to get my mam to settle down in new home we had to move 4 times and still struggle to this day. More pets died and then my brother moved out and my sister moved too because of bullying and I’m looking after my mam by my self and have been for years I’m now 21 and never had a gf or sex and don’t have any friends no more. Had death threats and my moped damaged and almost stolen my home attacked and followed by a crack head threatining to kill my family. Police don’t do any thing about him and then all of a sudden he makes a lie and calls police to say something insanely stupid to make me out as a terrorist. This is the crack head that threatened to kill me by the way and he gets 20 odd swat armed response to raid my home and point guns at my head and so on. I have anxiety ptsd paranoi depression I’m basically becoming anarexit because I never eat I’m insanely lonley and have no one around me. I’m burnt out aiching all over. Over worked as I work 13 hours 6 days a week. Get 3-4 hours sleep a day and have had tooth aitch for 5 odd years now since dental care in uk is so shit. I was suicidal after all this and went to a bridge to hang my self. I wrote a letter and brought a noose with me and everything but when I got there I just stared at the bridge for hours and cried in my hands begging god to give me a reason to keep going. I hope there is a reason to keep going and god will send a savour to me but im really struggling here. I’ve heard it all before but really would any one els stuck around if it was this bad for them too ?

2024.05.15 02:02 Reddituser7696 Grad School for Polisci/IR

Hello! I’m will be entering my final year of my BA degree in Political Science and International Relations in the fall. I’m not too familiar with the application process for grad schools and I’m trying to gage what schools are within my reach. I currently have a 3.7 GPA and will probably finish with it around the same or possibly a bit higher. I’m really not involved with any on campus activities or anything like that as I’ve had to work my way through college. My only internship was last summer with my local state rep who has expressed the desire to put in a good word for me or write a letter of recommendation for anything I may need. My eventual goal is to become a U.S. Foreign Service Officer but I’d like to work a couple of years in federal government while studying for the FSOT and getting some experience under my belt. I’d really love to attend Georgetown or American for my MA in International Relations but I really have no clue if these schools are within my reach. If anyone has any experience with this and knows if my goals seem attainable or have any other programs to check out that would be great. Thanks!

2024.05.15 02:02 xKennKaniff Feedback on 2 Offers

To try and avoid a TLDR, I’ll keep this as short and concise as possible. I received two job offers that are both great. Recruiters contacted me on both positions. Curious as to any feedback that could be provided.
Current role: Finance Manager - FP&A. Former plant controller at same company. Comp: $117.5K + 15% bonus (TC $137.5K). Counteroffer was to bump me to $125K + 25% ($156K TC). Good benefits, Match is 6% on 401K, HDHP with HSA available. Employer provides a contribution. Industry is manufacturing of consumer retail products. Purchased by PE firm in 2022 (family owned for 100+ years prior), name of the game is now cut cut cut. Cost cut after cost cut + headcount reductions. Stagnant growth.
Offer 1: Finance Manager. Comp $150K + 20% bonus (TC $180K). Local, same commute time essentially. Also manufacturing, consumer products, consumer staples industry’s Relatively newer, started 2019 but stable company. $5,000 sign-on. Eligible for all benefits after 30 days (health insurance, 401K, etc). Match is 6% on 401K, HDHP with HSA available. Employer provides a contribution as well. Role is newly created to support continued growth. New CFO started 6 months ago, former CFO experience at large global company.
Offer 2: Director of Finance - FP&A. Comp is 160K + 15% bonus (TC $184K). Industry is more service based related to home services. Company started 2016. Revenue has doubled since 2020 to about $1B. Acquired by PE firm. CFO also new, previous IPO experience, brought in by PE firm. Role also newly created to support growth. Eligible for health/dental benefits after 60 days. No HDHP, no HSA. No 401K or match for 1 year. After Yr 1, match is 4%.
Additionally, relocation required to east coast. Company will pay, I have to provide quotes and receive lump sum amount. Offer 2 has an equity based incentive - SARs (stock appreciation rights, not physical shares). 40% time based of 5 years, 60% based on a sale or IPO. They say that the company plans to sell in 3-5 years, potential IPO, but leaning that sale is healthier at this time for the company. Target SAR payout if they hit their goal is $237.5K (pre-tax). Minimum target has to be met or no payout. If no sale, or if I leave beforehand, I’m only eligible for the 40%. Knowing PE, I would say it’s more toward 5 years.
Struggling with which offer makes sense. I’m age 30, married with toddler and newborn. Most of our family is “nearby”, so to speak. No family east coast. Most social circles are here, but we could always develop new ones. I relocated for a plant controller role in 2020 to east coast. Relocated back to Southwest region for new role in May 2022, which is where I started with the current company. So I’d be moving family again to take new role. 3rd move in 4 years. Reason to move would really only be the equity incentive, IMO. I believe I could find a director role here with my background if I really started looking, and that potential exists at offer 1, as well, once I’m in the door.
Total comp is less than $5K different, and offer 1 has better benefits that essentially outweigh the comp difference. No 401K for one year of offer 2 stings. Health insurance will run me about $5K more/year at offer 2 and no HSA. Also, offer 1 provides non-prorated bonus of 20% for 2024, offer 2 will be prorated, so would be 1/2 for 2024 (so 7.5%).
Is it just me, or does it seem like for role and location, the salary difference is not significant enough to move across the country? Would you chase the equity incentive and title? Is $10K more base for director vs manager enough? Any additional thoughts?
Thanks for your time and feedback

2024.05.15 01:53 Ok_Yogurtcloset6555 How much will my school not offering AP classes affect me if I apply to T10 schools?

I am a rising senior with great extracurricular activities, sat score, gpa, and awards. I am going to apply to an Ivy League as I have a unique internship there currently. My school doesn’t offer AP’s and I didn’t realize I could self study for the tests. I’ve completed my schools offered classes and will be duel enrolling in nearby college next year. Will not having AP scores negatively impact my application even if I have a letter of recommendation (written by the head of the school) stating that I am basically valedictorian of the small school I attend? Also, will me taking 8 community college classes next year make up for the lack of AP’s self studied or am I just cooked?

2024.05.15 01:52 PLpro12 How do I deal with counterfeit or unauthorized sellers on my Amazon FBA listings reddit?

Implement Brand Registry

Brand Registry is a powerful tool offered by Amazon to help brand owners protect their intellectual property and control their product listings. By enrolling in Brand Registry, you gain access to a suite of features, including enhanced brand protection, global search and report tools, and the ability to create and upload unique product identifiers. This enables you to assert greater control over your listings and swiftly address any instances of infringement.

Utilize Amazon's Transparency Program

Amazon's Transparency Program is another valuable resource for combating counterfeit products. This program allows you to assign unique codes to each unit of your products, which can then be verified by customers using the Amazon app. By leveraging Transparency, you can differentiate authentic products from counterfeit ones, thereby safeguarding your brand's integrity and customer trust.

Monitor Your Listings Vigilantly

Regularly monitoring your Amazon FBA listings is essential for identifying and addressing unauthorized sellers promptly. Utilize tools like Amazon Brand Analytics and Third-Party Seller Tools to track changes in pricing, seller metrics, and listing content. By staying vigilant, you can swiftly detect and take action against unauthorized sellers, ensuring that your products are sold at the right price and in compliance with your brand guidelines.

Enforce MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) Policies

Implementing and enforcing Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policies can help deter unauthorized sellers from undercutting your prices. By setting a minimum price threshold for your products, you create a level playing field for authorized resellers and discourage price erosion. Additionally, clearly communicate your MAP policies to all authorized distributors and take swift action against violators to maintain pricing integrity.

Employ Legal Measures

In cases where unauthorized sellers persist despite preventative measures, legal action may be necessary. Consult with intellectual property attorneys who specialize in e-commerce and brand protection to explore your legal options. This may include sending cease-and-desist letters, filing trademark infringement claims, or pursuing litigation against repeat offenders. While legal action should be a last resort, it can be an effective deterrent against persistent counterfeiters.

Cultivate Relationships with Authorized Resellers

Building strong relationships with authorized resellers is key to protecting your Amazon FBA listings. Regular communication and collaboration with trusted partners can help you identify and address potential issues before they escalate. Provide your authorized resellers with the support and resources they need to represent your brand effectively, and incentivize compliance with your brand guidelines and pricing policies.

Leverage Amazon's Brand Gating Program

Amazon's Brand Gating Program is designed to prevent unauthorized sellers from listing products in certain categories without proper authorization. By gating your brand, you can control who sells your products on Amazon and mitigate the risk of counterfeiters infiltrating your listings. To qualify for brand gating, you'll need to demonstrate a history of brand integrity and provide documentation to prove your ownership of the brand.
Utilizing Amazon Seller Tools
Helium 10 offers a comprehensive suite of tools to combat counterfeit or unauthorized sellers on Amazon FBA listings. With its powerful monitoring capabilities, sellers can swiftly detect unauthorized activity and take action. Additionally, the software's product research and keyword tracking features help sellers proactively identify and address issues before they escalate. 2024.05.15 01:49 lostandconfuzzledd Rant about entitled man thinking he knew what was best for me

I (32f) don’t understand why men just feel like they must know better than I, a lowly female. I went to the doctor to deal with an issue. I knew what the problem was since I had to stop taking a med due to dental surgery and now needed to have new drugs to ‘catch up’ and then go back to normal. However I got stuck seeing a male doctor (70+) as opposed to one of my normal female doctors and it was the worst experience. Nurses went through everything with me and had no issues with what I needed and were going to handle it until this guy steps in because he is the doctor. He proceeds to do an entire exam and then tell me that what I want was going to be a bad route. He wanted to me to do an entire procedure because if I was his daughter I’d be doing that. Told me that my way was going to be painful and I’d be home all weekend long completely bedridden. Said procedure was easy and they just put you to sleep handle what is needed and then you go home with your caretaker. Few issues, 1. I was by myself and had no one who I could call to be able to come meet me and drive me home after nor would I want to inconvenience someone with that when I DONT NEED A PROCEDURE and 2. I am terrified of any type of procedure where you are knocked out. I said no, I want to go with my original plan of extra dose of meds here and then be on my way, I had dealt with it before and I could deal with the pain. This doctor laughed at me and said ‘ok we will see if you are saying that when I see you back here in 2 weeks.’ This man had no idea of the medical issues I’ve dealt with nor the trauma I endured the last 2 years of my life. Achy joints weren’t going to kill me. He did finally just give me what I needed but of course explained the instructions for how to take a pill every 4 hours to me 3x. I did spend my Saturday night in bed with some heating pads but honestly the ‘rona shots gave me worse side effects. It just really annoyed me that this man tried to get me to not do what I wanted to do, what I had done in the past when I had issues like this, because he knows the pain a female can handle and this was going to be just too much for little ol me. If it was just to be like, listen what you want is fine but as a medical professional I just want to let you know that I wouldn’t recommend this because a b and c but it’s your choice, I’d have no problem. But the audacity of this 80+ year old man acting like he was my father and knew best for me really pissed me off.
Just a note: obviously I’m very vague with what my medical issue was. To give an example of what I’m trying to explain but not using my exact condition, imagine you take a medication to help with joint pain, you had to stop taking it for a few weeks because it would interact with a drug from dental surgery. You go to doctor to ask for a cortisone shot to alleviate the pain as you start taking the meds again to be normal. He decides no, the effects from the shot are not worth it and would rather knock you out to go in and clean around the cartilage in the joint to fix it. Despite you have gotten the shot before and are aware of the side effects and know you can handle them.

2024.05.15 01:44 Califanoal Unveiling the Potential of Zeus North America Mining: A Promising New Venture in Idaho's Copper & Silver Boom

Unveiling the Potential of Zeus North America Mining: A Promising New Venture in Idaho's Copper & Silver Boom
In a recent interview with Resource Stock Digest, Dean Besserer, President and CEO of Zeus North America Mining (ZEUS.c or ZUUZF for US investors), shared exciting insights about the company's strategic positioning and future prospects. As the global demand for copper and precious metals intensifies, exploration companies like Zeus Mining, operating in prime jurisdictions, are poised to help fill future supply gaps. Here’s an in-depth look at what makes Zeus Mining a compelling story for investors and stakeholders.
Introduction to Zeus Mining
ZEUS is driven by a team of experienced geologists and industry experts. The company’s primary focus is on acquiring and developing high-potential properties in favorable mining jurisdictions. In 2021, Zeus Mining strategically staked three tier-one silver assets in Idaho, a state renowned for its rich mineral deposits and favorable regulatory environment.
Flagship Property: Cuddy Mountain
ZEUS' flagship property is Cuddy Mountain, which is in a burgeoning mineral belt that has seen a flurry of activity. Cuddy Mountain is located 1km from a significant discovery by Hercules Silver (Mcap = $213.9M). The discovery attracted major industry players, including Barrick Gold (Mcap = $41B) who invested $23M in Hercules Silver’s project. Hercules Silver’s success reinvigorated interest in the region, with over 20,000 new claims staked across a 25-mile trend, making ZEUS’ stake particularly valuable.
Exploration and Development Strategy
ZEUS' approach to exploration is methodical and data-driven. The team is set to conduct extensive soil sampling, ground geophysics, and 3D IP surveys to identify prime drilling targets. Besserer, with his extensive global experience, assures that the company is equipped to employ best-in-class exploration techniques. The company’s boots-on-the-ground methodology ensures thorough and accurate data collection, essential for successful discovery and development.
The immediate focus is on refining targets through comprehensive geophysical surveys and soil sampling, expected to commence in the coming weeks. These initial steps are crucial for pinpointing the most promising drilling sites, aiming to replicate the success seen by neighbors like Hercules Silver.

Leveraging Expertise and Strategic Partnerships
ZEUZ' team brings a wealth of experience from working in over 50 countries, providing a robust foundation for navigating complex geological landscapes. The company also plans to leverage expertise from top-tier geologists and consultants to ensure precise interpretation of data and effective drilling strategies.
Moreover, the involvement of industry giants like Barrick in the region not only brings financial investment but also intellectual capital. Barrick’s commitment to the region, both in terms of funding and expertise, highlights the underlying potential and attracts further attention to the belt where ZEUS operates.
Market Position and Future Prospects
Currently, Zeus Mining has a market cap of approximately $18 million. Despite being in the early stages of its development cycle, the company is poised for significant news flow in the near term. Upcoming exploration results from Cuddy Mountain and other properties are anticipated to generate substantial interest and potentially drive value.
The comparison with Hercules Silver, which has already demonstrated the region’s mineral richness, sets a promising benchmark for ZEUS. With a structured exploration plan and a focus on high-priority targets, ZEUS aims to achieve similar, if not greater, success.

2024.05.15 01:41 AromaticSwim5697 Private practice SLPs-do you all target phonological awareness, decoding, etc.?

I’m in private practice and see a child who is almost 8 and cannot read, cannot identify letters, does not know sound-letter correspondence, and needs a visual model of every letter in order to write it.
How much in private practice do you all target these early literacy skills? When I gave him a book for the PLS-5 test items for pointing to a word, showing the front cover, etc., he did not score any of the items correctly. He did pretty well on the rest of the PLS, but he couldn’t do anything related to reading, story recall, letter identification, phonological skills, among the rest of the early literacy skills. I think that’s ultimately what took his score so low on the expressive portion.
I’d like to recommend that we stop with speech services so he can get reading intervention elsewhere, because he’s missing very foundational skills related to reading (even knowing the letters of the alphabet). Because his performance on the PLS is really not indicative of a language disorder, but more likely a learning disability. His working memory is also VERY poor; can barely remember 4 words provided.
How much of this do you target in private practice as an SLP? This feels much more appropriate for a reading intervention provider or tutor.

2024.05.15 01:36 EcoFriendly5617 Upgrading a ~14 year old TV.

I've looked through the USA guide but the prices and all the different numbers/letters get overwhelming for someone who has very little knowledge of TVs. I've used the same 50inch, 60hz, 1080p Emerson TV which I run at 1920x1080p since ~2010 and really want to upgrade to something that's a HUGE leap from what I have now. The 1920x1080p really seems super nice looking but I'm assuming that upgrading would be a night and day difference. I've sat 1ft away from this tv for all the time I've had it so a monitor would probably give instant buyers regret, I've gotten use to and prefer my giant screen. I would love to experience 4k and a higher refresh rate, however my motherboard (z390 phantom gaming 4s-ib) does not have HDMI 2.1 it has HDMI 1.4, would that be a problem/a barrier to jump into true 4k? When I see those TVs in best buy I wonder if my eyes have ever worked right they look so amazing and vivid. The TV will be used with a PC and only a PC, so gaming and YouTube is basically all it will be used for 24/7. The room is a bedroom with no direct sunlight hitting it period, mostly kept dark due to personal and cooling reasons. The price point of all the recommended TVs all are around ~$1700 that I was looking at, with that kind of price point I just really want to be sure I get something that I will be blown away with. Do these high end TVs get sales on Black Friday, should I wait for some special event or something along those lines? What would you get yourself to treat yourself with a massive upgrade with a range of around ~$1500? Thank you in advance and have a great day and night.

2024.05.15 01:26 HelpMeGetInPlease Masters Program for Dental School

Hey guys I wanted to get some advice from the people on this subreddit to answer a couple questions regarding a masters program for dental school. I've already looked through past posts and tried to see if I could get any advice from them but I feel like I need my own post.
First off, my overall GPA and Science GPA is lacking, I'm ashamed of it. My Science GPA is 3.14 and Overall GPA is 3.3, and my degree is in Biology. My GPA must be improved before I apply.
So my questions are

#1. Masters Program (Science based) vs Post-Bacc program

Which is right for me? Are both capable of raising my GPA or does the graduate program have it's own GPA section that doesn't really help my undergraduate GPA?

#2 Which programs do you guys recommend for someone in California?

Is there anyone here who's in the same state as me and could recommend something?

2024.05.15 01:24 PralineRoyal8196 So. Much. Plagiarism.

From the 50 research papers I received at the end of the semester, I would say about 1/5 contain plagiarism. Some are worse than others. Even some of my best students just couldn't help but copy and paste items material from the internet into their papers. They don't know how to put things in their own words. They're too proud or too lazy to put it in quotes and cite it.
Guys, it's killing me. Students I trusted. Some of them I wrote letters of recommendation for already earlier this semester. (Mistake #451: don't write a letter of recommendation for a student in your class. See if they can get through the semester without plagiarizing.)
It's hard not to take it personally. They're trying to pull one over on me. I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but it's hard not to.
