Hi everyone,
I am a recent law school grad headed for BL. I am the first person in my family to graduate college. Money is constantly an issue in my family and I’ve worked really hard in law school to get a BL offer.
IUnfortunately, my graduation didn’t go as planned. I paid for my family’s dinners (shout out to my summer associate savings) and really begged my group to just be happy to be there.
There ended up being a lot of unhappiness (IMO pouting) because graduation took awhile, the seats weren’t great, they didn’t want to take a lot of pics etc. Today, one of my parents called me conceited and unempathetic because I told them that they should’ve let me know that my grandparent incredibly struggles to walk. In retrospect, I should’ve planned for them to have better accommodations, but I was swamped in finals up until the day before graduation. It didn’t even cross my mind. I also didn’t know how bad the walking situation was until I saw my grandparent.
I’ve also fielded a lot of ‘you’re too smart for us’ and ‘you’ll never have to be blue collar’ jabs from my parents. They never fully understood how hard I worked in law school-actually laughing at me when I would call and convey I am stressed. Has anyone ever dealt with anything similar?
I’m not sure how I’m going to deal with this-especially when I’m going into a position that is extremely well paid. I feel like I wont be able to talk about work/promotions.
I figured I’d ask for any advice. I’ll definitely be dealing with this in therapy.

Hi all,
My friend and i are both studying at university and are deciding to start a little honest car cleaning and detailing side hustle to pay for our very expensive fees. We are both very broke and struggle to eat most days so getting clients asap would be a huge help for our financial situation.

Damian says Drew knows what came with this life but Drew says he's a BS champion, but Priest says he's still a champion. Priest tells Drew to find a mirror and blame that asshole for all his faults. He wanted to cash in on Seth Rollins but Drew stopped that from happening multiple times and that's on him, at Wrestlemania all he had to do was leave with his wife, but instead he saw Punk and made him more important than himself, the title, and his wife, all after he got his ass kicked by a one armed man. Priest says once Drew is cleared he'll get a shot at the World Title, but warns Drew after he beats him he'll be eating his words and everyone can rise to that.

• Chad Gable is talking to the Alpha Academy, he tells Maxxine she blew her opportunity at Queen of the Ring and embarrassed the Academy. He tells Otis and Tozawa that he has jobs for them, Otis is going to soften up Sami Zayn and tells him to not do any funny business, he needs serious Otis and tells Tozawa not to blow his opportunity against Bronson Reed. Gable and the rest walk off as Maxxine stays behind, Ivy asks Max why she didn't tell her about the Queen of the Ring opportunity and says they could have trained together. Maxxine explains that Gable doesn't want her training outside of the Academy when Gable storms back in and tells Max to stop standing around and get to training. He tells Ivy she has potential and she shouldn't be wasting it on Taylor "Not so" Swift over here.
  
• Kofi Kingston is interviewed before his match with GUNTHER. Kofi says he's familiar with doing the unthinkable but tonight is about payback for what GUNTHER did to his boy Xavier Woods. Kofi says last night he went toe to toe with the greatest luchador of all time and he's not just winning this tournament for himself, he's doing this for Woods. Woods says because of GUNTHER he can't defend his crown, but he can think of no one better than Kofi to become king.
  
• Lillian Garcia returns to do the ring announcements for Kofi vs GUNTHER! She tells Samantha Irvin that she's doing an incredible job and she is making them all proud.
  
• R-Truth is talking to Adam Pearce and says he thinks he has a great idea for their tag titles. Miz walks in and says Truth better not putting their titles on the line again when Pearce explains that he is giving the Raw tag division and opportunity to become number one contenders tonight. Kiana James enters the office and tells Pearce she was thankful for their meeting over the phone last week but is looking forward to showing him why she is the top 1% and show off how well she can adjudicate. • Backstage Karrion Kross tells Kofi it was a tough loss, but there is always time to turn things around and walks off. Woods gives Kofi some ice and asks what he wanted but Kofi says he doesn't know.
  
• Ludwig Kaiser chastises an interviewer for trying to interview GUNTHER after his match. She says that she wanted to ask about GUNTHER's history with the other competitors in this tournament since Ilja beat him the last time they faced off, and the last time he faced Jey Uso he won due to Imperium, the same way he beat Sheamus last week. Ludwig says that Sheamus has done a lot in his career and Sheamus should be thanking him for what he did last week and should be standing beside him but instead it is up to him to embarrass Sheamus now.
  
• Adam Pearce is interviewed but before he can make his announcement about the World Tag Team Championships, the New Catch Republic walk in and Tyler Bate thanks Adam for the opportunity and Pearce says he is sanctioning a fatal four way to determine the number 1 contenders for the World Tag Team Championships. Adam is asked why he didn't allow Bron Breakker into the King of the Ring tournament and he explains he didn't want to throw Bron into the deep end but Bron walks in and say anyone he faced in that tournament would be in the deep end with him and he'd drown them all.
  
• Lyra Valkyria is interviewed after her victory, she says she's a former NXT Women's Champion and she travels as the crow flies, straight to the top and speaks something in Irish.
  
• Backstage Jey Uso says Drew McIntyre couldn't cut it so they threw your boy into the King of the Ring and promises to give a yeet down to both Ilja and GUNTHER on his path to becoming King.

I’m trying to quit, I just went 26 clean days, longest of my life since I started drinking when I was 17 (I’m 31). I’m very proud of my streak, and I have seen noticeable changes mentally and physically, and have received positive compliments from others about my physical appearance.
I broke my streak because I had two beers at a baseball game this Saturday, which I’m ok with honestly. It wasn’t really worth the price of it, and I did feel the effects of them (wow, only two beers and I felt blah? Welcome to being old). Im not entirely crushed or beating myself up over it. I mostly drank because that’s just ‘what you do’ at a ballgame.
But, why’s it have to be like that? Sooo many activities and events are centered around alcohol, especially in America. Going golfing? Doesn’t matter that it’s 8am, crack the beers open. In an airport? Beer up. Going to the beach? Drink up. Getting a gas station snack? Look at those tall boys in the cooler, why not grab one to drink.
Maybe it’s the way my drunk-induced watered down brain works and has been damaged from years of alcoholism, but I feel like everything revolves around drinking alcohol. I really do want to quit and I believe I have the will power to, BUT I don’t know how I’m going to persevere when I am in these types of settings where alcohol is rampantly accepted and promoted.
Plus, it’s wild how promoted and accepted alcohol is, while weed isn’t. Well, we’re getting there, and that’s a different conversation.
How do you stay sober in situations/environments where it’s difficult and tempting?

Captains, work has begun to repurpose a quarter of both of our hothouses to the production of alcohol. While our food and medical crop output will be lowered, this will help to end the rationing down at the public house. It'll take a day or so to resow the areas, grow the plants, and start processing them, but soon enough our citizens will have access to drinks again after their difficult workdays.

About 2 days ago there was a post on rant titled 'Why did you haven ruin it Rowling? And why won't you please just stop?' talking about how JKR's transphobic views ruined HP for younger generations, and unsurprisingly, there was a shit ton of transphobia in the comments, ranging from ignorant nostalgia blind millennials to literal bigots. These were the top comments, btw. Any reply agreeing with OP's statement or calling out other people in the thread for their bigotry was downvoted to hell. Mine included.
What makes this even worse is that the mods didn't do shit for 2 days! And even then, only the non-bigoted comments were removed! I was banned just because I condemned the mods for sitting on their asses and twiddling their thumbs.
It's crazy that they even let any of the TERF shit fly, cause they have multiple rules stating that

I just ordered kelp extract to promote new growth on a few of my struggling phals and could use any and all advice you all have on how to use it.
How frequently are you using it? Do you just mix it in with your water on a monthly basis or something? Do you also add fertilizer to that same water or skip fertilizer that day? Do you spray it on the leaves and roots? Or soak the plant, or top water?
Do you use it with all your orchids or only the ones that need an extra boost?
So many questions! Please help! I want to do right by my plants! Thank you in advance.

Hello, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong thread but I don't have anywhere else to go. I don't know if I'm reading the situation wrong/if I'm the crazy exaggerator so here I wanted an outside opinion.
For context, me and my sister were raised by my single mom, who is also an immigrant. My sister has classified my mom as a narcissist and an abuser, and I would definitely agree that she has narcissistic tendencies, they're pretty much in line with the "immigrant parent" experience and although the abuse has lessened with age.
My sister was pretty much the scapegoat and I was the golden child 80% of the time; the only time I was "the problem" was when social issues were involved as I was very much autistic+ADD and had no idea how to relate to others, so I was bullied and blamed for it. My sister has ADHD and was terrible at school, which is where a lot of my mom's anger towards her came from. She's very bitter about the majority of our childhood, which I understand; there are things that happened that I will also simply never recover from, even with therapy.
My sister is bubbly, charismatic, and very empathetic. I can't stress that enough; everyone loves her. She's friends with random people in our neighborhood, she talks to and befriends homeless people, and is training to be a social worker. She has many close friends and talks to them all day and night. Our relationship was pretty rocky when we were kids, and I can't say that we're as close as some siblings are, but I always thought our relationship was okay. My mom would sometimes complain that we were against her, but I think she was just frustrated that we wouldn't turn on each other easily. However, I did start to notice a few things about my sisters behavior that is concerning me.

• She has a victim complex/hard time doing anything important by herself, but only when I'm available to help/do it for her.

I think this is a consequence of her never being trusted to do things as a child, but I thought she would attempt to get better with age. Nope. She would ask me to fill out her student loan and passport forms, saying that she was scared to get things wrong. When I would try to get her to do it herself, she would get upset with me and call me selfish. She says that this is because she feels that she is not smart enough to do anything bc of her childhood; fair, but she's 22 now, so I think she should try to help herself out and try to build confidence. She now pays her friends to fill out forms for her; one of them is actually being paid to apply for graduate programs for her. Any mention of this makes her talk about how badly she was treated as a kid and how its lead to her being so scared of doing anything, so OF COURSE she needs help 24/7.
But at the same time, she goes out of her way to help other people with their paperwork; she even helped a coworker get into grant/loan program for university, and that paperwork was 10 times harder than what she has to fill out. It's very confusing, it makes me feel like she does these things so people like her.

• She hates responsibility.
  I feel like this is her being self aware that she's sort of useless. For example; she doesn't have a credit card, and just uses my moms/mine and pays us back at the end of the month. Recently, I asked her to stop using my credit card since she kept forgetting to pay me the right amount. She also had this habit of using my card as a form of revenge against me if I forgot to pick up her things during my grocery run (she can't drive). She would also threaten to use my card if I didn't do things for her (she said it was a joke, but it rubbed me the wrong way). Anyway, she got upset and said she needed my card for emergencies. I asked why she didn't just apply for a credit card. She said she was unsure if she would be responsible enough to manage a credit cards and make payments on time. But...she felt comfortable using MY card? The one that I have to manage and make sure payments are made on time? I explained how worrisome that was and she just told me I was crazy and controlling.
  

This has also steeped into how she approaches things like deadlines. She missed a deadline for a grant she really needed (twice) and spent an entire week emailing the grant team asking them to accept her application, and then emailing their bosses when they refused. Whenever she's rejected from graduate programs she's always confused and says she should've gotten in, even though there are some clear deficits in her applications.

• She is always telling me how bad of a person I am when I don't do as she says. Like, morally.

A good example I can think of is that she asked me to chip in $23 for her friends birthday; I was confused why I had to pay since the girl wasn't MY friend. My sister argued that since I had talked to her and liked her, this made us friends, and friends contribute to birthdays. She also said if I backed out then she would have to split my part over other people who I would consider to be my friends and that those friends were in tight financial situations, so I would be a shitty person for making them pay extra. I still refused to pay; this really had nothing to do with me. She just looked at me and said that she was surprised that I was such a shitty person. There are similar stories to this; whenever she wants me to do something and I refuse, she makes me out to be a horrible person. Not in a yelling/screaming way; she just comments "oh, never knew you were that shitty" and keeps it up for however long it is until I do the thing she asked for. for some reason I never really saw them as weird until I brought it up with some friends and they said that was messed up.

• She makes fun of/belittles me in front of her friends constantly, but gets upset when I do it back.

^pretty self explanatory. a lot of my sisters friends really like me; I think they see me as a big sister, and a lot of them are in similar situations/career paths as me. They're all very nice. My sister and I are very snarky towards each other, but she is especially mean to me in front of her friends. I'm not 100% sure what she says either; she tries her best to make sure I'm not around much when she's talking to her friends, going out of her way to make sure to exclude me from any plans she makes even when her friends want me to come. She also enjoys rubbing the fact she has friends/plans that I can't join in my face. I'm usually quite busy so it doesn't bother me much, but I have noticed it. she also tends to try and be mean to me in front of them as a joke, but if I snap back I can tell that she gets upset about it. She's asked me to not call her things like stupid in front of her friends (fair, she can be super sensitive about that), but has told many of them about my ASD without my permission (she only asked when they let it slip that they knew). So that's weird.

• she is always switching up the narrative.

this is the thing that makes me feel INSANE. she is always telling me how horrible she has it at home and how much our mom hates her, and how I will never understand how it feels to be her so it's unfair when I call her out on things like not doing chores (like she does to me) because she will always be scolded more harshly than I will be. that's fine, a little grace is fine, but then she'll just outright lie about how "great" she is. For example, in the summer my mother was gone, so we split the chores in the house. I work a lot on weekdays, so she was to take care of general upkeep, and I would do the heavy chores (taking laundry to the laundromat, cooking in bulk for the week, mopping and vacuuming the apartment) on the weekend. I noticed that she would often not be the best at this, but as long as I could fix it on the weekend it was fine. But if I ever messed up, she would be merciless; she refused to wash the dishes for a whole week because I couldn't do them on Sunday since I had extra errands to run that weekend. I brought this up to her and she said we split the chores and that was that. I pointed out that she wasn't keeping her end of the bargain either, but she told me she was simply too busy to keep up with all the work she was being given and that the chore split was unfair anyway. I didn't really know how to deal with that so I dropped it.

• She sets boundaries, but I can't.

There are more issues but I will leave it at this one for last. She has always been very vocal about setting boundaries with me and my mom. For example, we can't give her chores last minute or it messes up her schedule (even if she's doing nothing). She's also really big on talking issues out, but usually the talk just keeps going until we agree with whatever she's saying. Personally, I am the type of person who gets really short and petty when I'm angry, so its not a good idea to talk to me. She will INSIST on talking to me even when I want to shut the conversation down and say my refusal to talk is just proof that she's right and I'm wrong. But if I talk, the conversation will just repeat itself until she gets the answer she wants out of me. She's very good with therapy-speech as well; to be honest, she always sounds condescending when she argues with me or my mom even though she says I'm just projecting. I could be, but I don't hear it when she's arguing with her friends or in online classes.
I'm probably being very one sided here, but whenever I think about some of these issues it just reminds me of my mom in a way. I've survived my mom by just nodding along and waiting for the storm to blow over, but my sisters actions are much more annoying to me for some reason. If anyone has any input it would be appreciated. I don't want to think I'm living with 2 narcissists; maybe I'm actually the problem. because of my ASD I find it very hard to communicate my feelings and I tend to shut up or become very mean and short at random times. I try my best but I do need to work on using my words and making sure they can't be used against me.

• Spawn system is unbearable after extended play time. Half of the game is just deathmatch fighting at spawn in which kind of defeats the purpose of an open world style game. Please add many other spawn points with a wider range on the sides of maps or make a dynamic spawn system that detects other player proximity and moves your spawn based on range so there is at least a buffer of room to get away. I know this is hard to do on farm based on the map size but currently this spawn system is going to turn off a lot of players since the game is built around hardcore loss of gear.
• Initial recoil bounce of guns should be removed/reworked. This was already hated in tarkov for years and makes semi auto guns really unviable compared to full auto. Please change this to be a more consistent curve of recoil instead of just a barrel bounce. Think Counter-Strike but more realistic based on attachments, etc.
• Jumping and shooting with full accuracy (super manning corners) needs to be nerfed. This is especially bad with scavs who have zero reason to lose anything and can still melt your legs/face with stock guns. I do enjoy the more arcadey movement but please don't make this into a call of duty 360 noscope type of game. If your feet are off of the ground your gun recoil should be double in my opinion. Easy fix.
• Full auto spread needs increased (lazer hipfire is bad FPS design). Currently full auto guns are way too strong in terms of being able to just hipfire horizontally and not really aim the gun. I do not want the goofy solutions that tarkov did like durability and jamming to make full auto not so dominant. Just make the recoil realistic in terms of the first few shots are accurate where aiming and then if you continue full auto the cone spreads. This is a known design that works in just about every single FPS game. Keep the realistic ballistics of course but also make the recoil patterns realistic as well. If you want an FPS shooter that is skill based than the player should be controlling the recoil not some arbitrary system. The current design just promotes cheesing as players will shoot the first 2-3 shots prefire into the corner of a wall knowing by the time they strafe out the recoil is "fixed" and they laser. It is just bad design overall for a game that wants tactical realism.
• Scav detection radius is absurd. I am not sure if it changes based on your player level but after hitting level 30 scavs see me from EVERYWHERE. I am talking like a 150m radius if I am anywhere near them I am spotted. They very often comm and rush at me from behind cover or non line of sight where they really should have no idea of my exact location other than general footsteps. Sniper scavs on valley are just as bad and I have been hit through trees at like 300m out just randomly moving through cover. Either please reduce the detection radius or make thier shots a bit less accurate. Sniper scav will basically kill you by shot 3 if you do not have hard cover or some serious armor. I have even multiple times (im taking like every other raid) will see a scav in the distance just straight rushing at my location when I have not fired a shot or given any target inidcator and I will just watch them path right up to me like a magnet. Its both immersion breaking and annoying as hell.
• Scav tanking expensive ammo. This one drives me insane. If you want to make scavs be stronger by increasing health pools than please make some kind of visual change to thier clothing to look armored, especially the face. They dont actually have to have lootable gear obviously to keep the loot balance but there is nothing more immersion breaking or frustrating than shooting a scav with a baseball cap in the face and they just flinch and run off. This is one of the worst design aspects of tarkov and how BSG uses hp pools to balance the boss/AI and it kills me to see it copied in ABI. Please ask the art team to do some kind of pass even making the scavs have ghetto looking armor like something out of the game Rust to keep with the lore feel.
• Higher tier 6-7 7.62x54R does same TTK hits as lvl 5 making the cost pointless in many hours of sniping with a mosin. So basically T5 ammo costs roughly $1k. It on average will two shot body a naked and three shot a geared player with L4+ armor. Headshots are one hit kill. T6 and T7 mosin ammo again from my extensive tesing does the exact same damage counts in terms of hits. So you are paying an extra $1k per round to get the same bullet DPS. Of course yes these rounds will shine vs level6+ armor players but I do not think any ammo worth $1k+ per round should take more than two body shots for L4 armor players. There are a few exceptions to this but I have used mosin on Valley for multiple 10+ hour sessions and something is weird with the 7.62x54R T6 and T7 ammo class.
• Shoulder swap for weapons to left peek. This is an easy addition and honestly should be in any tactical FPS game that requires CQB fighting. Please add this for a huge quality of life.
• Option in player list that can be enabled so whatever team mate gets the killing blow can only loot that body who they killed locking out the rest of the team. This would greatly help with players not wanting to join random squads and get thier stuff taken after putting in the hard work of securing the kill. Not a perfect solution but would greatly help stopping thieves. Yes would players try to "last hit" to steal your loot? Sure. Would this system work 10x better than currently just watching a teammate rat your gear? Absolutely. Again make this a selecable option in the lobby so party leaders can choose and everyone wins. You don't want that option just don't enable it.
• Allow ANY keyboard key to be rebound. Many of us use custom key binds that are shared across multiple game titles and having to "relearn" the keys for this game because certain keys like ALT can not be bound to crouch for example makes the player controller feel really bad. A normal person is not going to just unlearn 15+ years of gaming keyboard binds and so every time there is a panicked firefight I naturally revert to the expected keys and it gets me killed. Super annoying and again very basic fix to allow those keys to be rebound.

My main concern right now is that these types of changes I have listed have taken tarkov YEARS to update. So what I do not want to happen is players having to camp the ABI patch notes for another 2-3 years just to get back those quality of life changes missing in this game that tarkov now has resolved. I do expect ABI to be much more efficient with the patch releases but none the less for someone who has played tarkov for many years some of these changes feel like "starting over with an old version" waiting for the same fixes that already exist in tarkov. They copied a lot of the bad design aspects of tarkov along with the good in my opinion.
At the end of the day this game is fantastic and really blends the casual and tactical mix to hit a wide audience. If you do not currently have beta access please do understand watching the game really does not do it justice. You have to play it to feel all of the small quality of life changes that make this title rival tarkov. I personally could care less if the game is copied or not. They did it better and BSG had 6 years to get thier act together. Someone like myself has been praying for this exact mix of extraction for a long time now. As long as the monetization does not impede the hardcore looting aspect AKA buying gear than I think this game will be just fine for the long run. Good luck out there!

For a little bit of background, I have been working in operations for around 5 years now. The past two were as a supervisor (which I loved and had great relationships with my crew.) I was promoted to manager over another operations area within the site in January.
This all happened a month before our annual shut down and I was forced to plan for an area I am totally unfamiliar with. I literally planned almost everything in under a month, was the only area to stick to our maintenance timeline, executed the most work in at least 5 years and had very few start up issues. I was actually given a very large spot bonus for all this today!
My issue is my operators. When I came over, I spoke with all my senior operators about feedback on jobs, feasibility with the schedule, and checked in somewhat regularly to make sure I wasn’t missing anything during planning. I valued their opinions since I didn’t have working knowledge of the area. The guys told me they appreciated having a say in what was going on.
I handed out daily agendas highlighting scheduled work, ordered extra tools/t shirts and even had a golf cart approved for the guys to use during the shutdown. But day one of our outage, it’s like a switch flipped, and they’ve been hostile ever since. I was told they described me as “annoying,” that they resent me as a “babysitter” and that they were going to “put me in my place.” Any time I questioned something that deviated from how they’ve always done it, even just trying to get a better understanding, I was told to stop “butting heads” and “trying to disprove” them.
My relationships with the guys has only gotten worse since then. For example, they came to me about a motor that is starting to bind up today. I agreed the maintenance work needed to be scheduled so it wouldn’t fail in the middle of the night. However, I asked if this was something that could wait another 1.5 weeks. Another part of the plant would be shutting down then, so we wouldn’t be limiting production. My operator yelled at me about how difficult I am to work with and that I never “listen” to them. The whole situation is almost funny because it’s so contradictory.
I hate saying this, but this is a very old school area of the plant and I feel like a lot of the pushback is because I’m a woman. If a man had asked the same question, they wouldn’t have had a problem with it.
But I don’t enjoy working like this. I’ve asked some of my peers about how they would handle it, and it’s a toss up to just apologize for whatever slight these operators think I’ve done and to give it time for these guys to adjust to me since they haven’t had a manager in so long.
How would you ladies handle this?

Recently quit my gas station job for another, hopefully less shitty retail gig. Asked a customer how he was because that's what I do, he said he'd rather be working. I say okay wanna switch? And he laughs and says my job doesn't pay enough to pay his bills. And I say yeah, I've got expenses too many, this is all I qualify for... and then he just launches into a speech about how I "qualify for whatever you want" and that all I need to do is "figure out what you like and stick with it". And he keeps fucking GOING. He brags about how he went from washing cars and driving taxis and now he practices law. And he basically says all it takes is time, sweat, and thinking. Implying I'm not thinking hard enough and that's why I'm in customer service...
First off, I actually don't mind customer service that much. I like meeting different kinds of people and making small talk and trying to help them however I can. I love the crazy bullshit you witness when working retail.
Secondly, I do plan to pull myself up when I have the opportunity. I've talked to family and they're willing to help me go back to school if I can find a program that's affordable enough so I can have a more stable career. But that's not me pulling myself up by my boot straps. That's me and my parents being extremely fortunate, because higher education isn't accessible to everyone.
Thirdly, if I do one day get a degree and succeed at some higher paying gig, am I going to look back and think "wow, I'm so glad that random customer gave me that speech, he changed my life!"? No, I'm still going to think he was a douchebag. Because there will always be people who have to work low level jobs, because there will always be a demand for entry level workers. The whole bootstraps mentality is not only out of touch but it's so inherently classist and somewhat narcissistic. People who think this way think they're too good to do a job that plenty of others need to survive.

So I have a video that was released a few days ago and I think its peaked but I want it to do better. What do I do? I already promoted it when it was released but not really afterwards. And that also brings up the question, how many times should you promote your video before it becomes annoying for the viewefollower?

I‘m in an ADN program and we just finished our pediatrics lecture. One day my professor couldn‘t come to class and told us we would have a substitute who would teach her lecture. Instead, they bring a CPM (this professor is brand new and had no say who would be her substitute) even though we finished had our OB lecture and they discussed nothing that we were supposed to learn that week and instead basically went on a rant about how hospital births are not good and that they’ve had bad experiences with nurses from hospitals and that they had considered being a nurse but felt they could “do more” as a certified professional midwife. They also complained about CPMs being overseen by the medical board because ”they’re different from midwives”, even though they do things that are definitely under the purview of physicians, like delivering babies. They also promoted water births and birthing centers and acted confused when I asked if they accepted clients over age 35 because that is advanced maternal age and is technically high risk. They did not love that question. I was pretty proud of my classmates because we were all super skeptical of what this person had to say. They did bring up great points and gave good information about racial disparity in prenatal care but the way they delivered it felt like they were lecturing us, not a school lecture but like your parents were scolding you for something you didn’t even know anything about let alone were part of. It was the weirdest thing I’ve experienced in nursing school so far and felt so confused afterward. The speaker ran over time and one of my classmates stood up and told them our other instructor said we could leave at a certain time and just walked out, which was pretty hilarious. I felt bad for my pediatrics professor because she had two 60 page PowerPoints she‘d made for that week and they didn’t even give her a substitute that was going to teach them so she had to change our whole exam to exclude that content. Super unfair to her and us.
