2024.05.14 08:38 ghoststalking Reviving an out of use OG Anycubic Photon - Motor shot, is it the driver?

Hey folks! Asked this in the general 3D printing community too, but then I saw that there's a Photon-Specific sub!
I wanted to get my old 2018 Photon back into action, hasn't seen any use since my DND Group broke up for Corona. Started it up and tried to home, motor started making weird skipping sounds and not moving.
I decided to try differential and ordered a new motor in the same dimensions, but when I plugged that in in breadbox it made the same weird sounds when trying to move the motor, just in longer intervals. You can hear it in the video. Every time it makes a sound it also jerks a bit in my hand, like it's trying to start but it doesn't.
https://reddit.com/link/1crlmsv/video/3kr0g6rr7c0d1/player
Is this the driver that's shot and not the motor, or is it something else I haven't thought of? All the wires are run in the same exact configuration and matched to the spec the motor came in.
Printer should be in pristine condition aside from disuse. We did have a bit of a humidity incident in the storage room I run it in in between, but shouldn't be enough to have corroded anything. Never a resin spill, never dropped, nothing of the sort.
If the driver is shot, is it perma-dead barring a motherboard replace (nearly impossible nowadays for the OG Photon from my research, or near enough as to not be worth the cost) or is there something else I can do to revive it?

2024.05.14 07:35 Estimate-Chance OH Hello there

Hello there
I finally get a win today. I have fixed my parts washer for less than 20 bucks. When it could have costed me 3500 just for the replacement motor.... I also started collecting all the stuff that is and was hers here at the shop. I am putting it all in a box which I am going to be mailing it to her. All her little trinkets, tools, and devices she had here at the shop. I got to stop letting her take control of my mind. When i see something that reminds me of her.

2024.05.14 06:57 allstarh2osystem Exploring the Environmental Impacts of Reverse Osmosis Systems: Unveiling the Hidden Costs

Exploring the Environmental Impacts of Reverse Osmosis Systems: Unveiling the Hidden Costs
Introduction
Reverse osmosis (RO) systems have become increasingly popular for purifying water, promising clean and safe drinking water. However, behind the veil of purity lies a less discussed aspect - the environmental impacts of these systems. In this article, we delve into the hidden costs associated with reverse osmosis systems, shedding light on their environmental consequences.
Understanding Reverse Osmosis Systems
Before delving into the environmental impacts, let's first understand how reverse osmosis systems work. Allstar Water Systems specializes in RO systems designed to remove impurities and contaminants from water. Through a semi-permeable membrane, water is filtered, leaving behind pollutants, minerals, and salts, resulting in clean drinking water.
Visit us at https://allstarh2o.com/ or call us at (888) 777-3777.
Advantages of Reverse Osmosis Systems
Reverse osmosis systems offer several advantages, making them a popular choice for water purification:
  1. Removal of Contaminants: RO systems effectively remove a wide range of contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and dissolved solids, ensuring safe and clean drinking water.
  2. Improved Taste and Odor: By removing impurities and chemicals that cause unpleasant taste and odor, reverse osmosis systems enhance the overall quality of drinking water, providing a refreshing taste.
  3. Compact and Space-Saving: RO systems are typically compact and can be installed under the sink or in confined spaces, making them suitable for residential and commercial applications where space is limited.
  4. Cost-Effective: While the initial investment may be higher compared to other water filtration methods, the long-term cost-effectiveness of RO systems lies in their low maintenance requirements and reduced need for bottled water.
  5. Customizable Filtration: Allstar Water Systems offers customizable RO systems tailored to meet specific water quality requirements, allowing customers to address unique purification needs effectively.
Disadvantages of Reverse Osmosis Systems
Despite their advantages, reverse osmosis systems also have some limitations and drawbacks:
  1. Wastewater Generation: As mentioned earlier, RO systems generate wastewater during the filtration process, resulting in water wastage. Allstar Water Systems acknowledges this issue and continues to explore solutions to minimize wastewater production.
  2. Removal of Beneficial Minerals: While RO systems effectively remove contaminants, they also strip water of beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Allstar Water Systems offers remineralization options to address this concern and restore essential minerals to purified water.
  3. Energy Consumption: The energy-intensive nature of reverse osmosis systems contributes to carbon emissions and environmental impact. Allstar Water Systems is committed to implementing energy-efficient technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of its RO systems.
  4. pH Imbalance: Purified water from RO systems tends to be slightly acidic due to the removal of alkaline minerals. Allstar Water Systems offers pH balancing solutions to ensure that purified water is safe and balanced for consumption.
The Environmental Toll of RO Systems
While reverse osmosis systems provide clean water, they come with a significant environmental cost. Allstar Water Systems, like many providers, utilizes energy-intensive processes to operate these systems. The high pressure required to force water through the membrane demands substantial energy consumption, contributing to carbon emissions and environmental degradation.
Energy Consumption and Carbon Footprint
Allstar Water Systems acknowledges the energy-intensive nature of reverse osmosis systems. The constant operation of pumps and motors consumes a considerable amount of electricity, adding to the carbon footprint. As consumers strive for cleaner water, they inadvertently contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change.
Waste Water Generation
Another often overlooked aspect is the generation of wastewater during the filtration process. For every gallon of purified water produced, Allstar Water Systems generates several gallons of wastewater containing concentrated contaminants and pollutants. Proper disposal of this wastewater poses environmental challenges, especially in regions with limited water resources.
Impact on Aquatic Ecosystems
The discharge of concentrated brine into water bodies poses a threat to aquatic ecosystems. Allstar Water Systems acknowledges the importance of mitigating this impact and implements strategies to minimize harm. However, the cumulative effect of widespread RO system usage can disrupt the balance of aquatic environments, affecting marine life and biodiversity.
Resource Depletion
In addition to energy consumption, reverse osmosis systems contribute to resource depletion. The production of membranes, essential components of RO systems, requires significant amounts of raw materials, including plastics and chemicals. Allstar Water Systems recognizes the need for sustainable practices and continually explores alternatives to mitigate resource depletion.
Addressing the Environmental Concerns
Despite the environmental challenges, Allstar Water Systems remains committed to providing clean water solutions while minimizing ecological impact. By investing in energy-efficient technologies and exploring sustainable alternatives, the company aims to reduce its carbon footprint and promote environmental stewardship.
Environmental Considerations in Reverse Osmosis Systems
While reverse osmosis systems offer undeniable benefits in water purification, it's crucial to examine their environmental implications comprehensively. Allstar Water Systems acknowledges the importance of balancing water quality with environmental sustainability and actively addresses key environmental considerations associated with RO systems:
  1. Energy Efficiency: Allstar Water Systems is committed to enhancing the energy efficiency of its reverse osmosis systems. By investing in energy-efficient pumps, motors, and membranes, the company aims to minimize electricity consumption and reduce its carbon footprint. Additionally, Allstar Water Systems explores renewable energy sources such as solar power to power its RO systems, further mitigating environmental impact.
  2. Waste Reduction: Recognizing the challenge of wastewater generation in RO systems, Allstar Water Systems implements strategies to reduce waste and maximize water recovery. Advanced water recovery systems and brine concentration technologies are utilized to minimize wastewater discharge and optimize resource utilization. By reducing waste generation, Allstar Water Systems minimizes its environmental footprint and promotes sustainable water management practices.
  3. Material Sustainability: Allstar Water Systems prioritizes material sustainability in the design and manufacturing of its reverse osmosis systems. The company sources environmentally friendly materials and components, minimizing environmental degradation throughout the product lifecycle. Additionally, Allstar Water Systems explores alternative materials and recycling initiatives to reduce resource consumption and minimize waste generation.
  4. Lifecycle Assessment: Allstar Water Systems conducts comprehensive lifecycle assessments of its reverse osmosis systems to evaluate their environmental impact holistically. By analyzing the environmental footprint of each stage, from manufacturing and operation to disposal, the company identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation. Continuous refinement of product design and manufacturing processes ensures that Allstar Water Systems delivers environmentally responsible water purification solutions.
  5. Environmental Stewardship: As a responsible corporate citizen, Allstar Water Systems is committed to environmental stewardship and conservation efforts. The company actively participates in community initiatives, environmental advocacy programs, and conservation projects to protect natural resources and promote environmental awareness. By engaging with stakeholders and fostering partnerships, Allstar Water Systems contributes to a sustainable future for generations to come.
Conclusion
Reverse osmosis systems offer a convenient solution for obtaining clean drinking water, but their environmental impacts cannot be ignored. Allstar Water Systems recognizes the importance of addressing these concerns and strives to balance water purification with environmental responsibility. As consumers, it's crucial to be aware of the hidden costs associated with RO systems and advocate for sustainable water management practices. 2024.05.14 05:36 furiousbobb Cheap, fuel efficient and moderate cargo volume

I've been searching for a fuel efficient vehicle (20-30mpg) with moderate cargo volume (anything over 60 cu ft with the back seats folded down).
I've been driving a 2000 Ford Expedition for work for 7-8 years now and the fuel prices are starting to wear me down. It's got ample room (120 cu ft) for my work and I'll still be keeping it around for those days where I need to haul lots of stuff but those days are becoming fewer and further in between. That and it gets about 13mpg on a good day. I keep telling myself I'll buy something else when that old 5.4L kicks the bucket but at 240k mi, it shows no signs of slowing down.
I drove my sister's 07 Honda fit the other day. Made a 100mi round trip and the fuel gauge barely moved. I was jealous. I did the same trip in my 1995 F350 7.3 and it cost me $55 in diesel albeit I was hauling around large materials. I let my fiancé borrow my Expedition for the weekend. She used up half a tank. That was $60 already.
Unfortunately, Honda Fits are a hard to come by, especially if I want a dumbed down version with a manual transmission (I believe standard gearboxes solve a majority of life's reliability issues).
I've looked at Honda Elements (mediocre MPG at around 20mpg) and Toyota Matrixes (usually more beat to heck than Honda Fits). I checked out older VW wagons too but fuel mileage isn't great, especially with the VR6's. Older Ford-era Mazda3's get mediocre fuel mileage as well. Subaru's I'd like to avoid. Not a fan of the boxer motors.
Any other ideas out there? Budget's around $4k and I'm good with a wrench.

Wonky Donkey's Innovative Project - Music Sheet Turner!
This is our Innovation Project for this FLL Masterpiece 2023-2024 season. The problem that we solved this year was that some people with health conditions such as Arthritis or Carpal Tunnel struggle to turn sheet music, so we brainstormed and came up with a solution! We created a music sheet turner by 3D designing and printing parts. We also coded it with Arduino and used cheap Stepper motors to cut costs. We got a professional accompanist to test our sheet turner:
https://youtu.be/Qh_P5BkRyDg?si=z3pGDDVEYtANUYjP

These are a couple of our key Iterations in broad detail:
https://preview.redd.it/vpqxb2p61b0d1.png?width=1197&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee00774a3023a41088146607350a8f457a4b3b89
We also created a pricing model of our multiple designs:
Gen 6 is our \"perfected\" LEGO design, Gen 7 is our Arduino and 3D printed design, and Gen 9 is a future design we have thought of and plan to implement at some point in the near future. Gen 9 will be relatively the same to Gen 7 but with slight changes to cut costs.
We will be competing in the American Robotics Open Invitational from May 18th-19th! Good luck!

2024.05.14 04:22 chooseyourwords49 Mini's partnership with Great Wall Motors and 'Straight-to-Market' Strategy, what are the reasons and impact on our beloved Minis?

I'm reposting this as it was edited by AI to be a bit more grammatically correct and "editorial" sounding, and came out completely wrong, my apologies - my writing generally sucks. The below content is important to me, so I'm looking for serious reflection, debate if anyone is interested. Thanks.
There's obviously been some discord with the new Mini line-up pitting Mini loyal purists against the fresher minded Mini lovers who prefer the new styling. We're all entitled to our opinions and that's okay, I'm not here to convince anyone of one trend or styling over the other. But we should be looking at the reasons of why Mini has made these style/business choices. I feel that some of these reasons are largely being ignored by some fans, being accepted as "the new trend, accept it", versus the 'straight-to-market', market cap gaining, cutting costs to get there, loss of prestige, quality of materials, and loyalty be damned - as I and others see it.
I obviously sit on the side of mostly disliking this new generation not because of their style choices (while ugly) but their decision to sacrifice quality in order to gain market cap, and their decision to partner with Great Wall Motors and produce an awful end-product out of China that mostly mimics the likes of the South East Asian market.
The Asian market isn't so much the problem, it's the en mass production of said materials, "recycled", "faux", and low quality plastics that are being used in their vehicles. A lot of people have said "this is the trend" and where all mass marketed cars are heading. But I think Mini's decision to partner with Great Wall Motors and produce the car out of China has a huge impact on their intention to go straight-to-market, cost cutting, streamlined parts, and therefore (in my opinion) loss of quality, and diminished/minimalist styling and impact on general design.
For example, I've said this in other places, but Great Wall Motor's 2023 Ora EV is a near clone of the Mini Cooper EV of which is made out of the same factory as the Ora. This partnership started in late 2017, early 2018 and didn't just happen yesterday. If you see the URL's below of the Ora you can see that they're pretty much clones, the round headlines, "unique" colorful interior, faux leather, low quality plastics, and minimalist approach.
Sorry for the length of this, but I'd love a friendly discussion about the above because it seems to be that BMW/Mini along with GWM are really just trying to gain as many customers as they can while doing it from a straight-to-market, cost-cutting designs, while largely impacting the former prestige and "luxury" feel our beloved Minis once had. What do you think?

2024.05.14 03:45 Slytherin_Sniped Update on Breaker Issue & Dishwasher..

Last week I posted about how our property manager had sent out a tech, not an electrician but another maintenance tech to the property. He took the old breaker out. So last week a new one was put in. Well, it’s tripping again. This is the third breaker less than 7 months. The breaker trips every time I use the garbage disposal. Long story short, her electrician said there was no power coming from the disposal on his reading. He told the property manager and she asked if I have the framing cover for the garbage disposal because forks and trip the breaker if blades are blocked… WTH. She sounds dumb. I told her that we only put biodegradable items down the disposal. Most of the time we dump plate leftovers into trash bin. She continues to go on about how it’ll cost 128 to replace motor for disposal and that’s it’s brand new. We’ve lived herefor 4 years since 2020 April and the apts were but in 2017. I told her that the dishwasher is building up water and spitting out gunk. I do clean tot btw and use Clorox and vinegar at times on a run. She said to just avoid the disposal and I said you increased rent by 60 percent and WE have to replace it?? She said it’s new and I said whatever the cause, you’ve had so many techs come and the issue is not resolved. She kept bringing up the costs of having an electrician to drive down and it’s 235 etc etc. then told me that people need to know how to use appliances. I said yea you do that. We wanted to install our own appliances but she rejected the offer. I can’t wait until we move out of here

So I have a shaky steering at maybe 80-90 mph, I thought I needed an alignment or a wheel balance, decided to check the car suspension before doing anything turns out my passenger side upper control arm is in need of replacement. looked up the oem Motor craft parts. it should cost 87$, why the hell the shop quoted me for a 200$ in parts?? also the mechanic told me it should take an a hour, is this normal? for a shop to charge 350$/hour?🤣, I might do it myself if someone has experience in these is it a terrible job or doable at my driveway?

2024.05.14 01:40 crescentm00n 2002 honda coupe ex 2D

Hi, I found a great deal on one of these cars. Here's what the ad said:
"2002 3.0 vtech Car runs and drives great needs some tlc but make me an offer i need it gone asap"
217000 miles Automatic
I asked him what "TLC" meant, he said:
"It needs the transmission lockout solenoid. It also needs motor mount."
My question is, is this a bad purchase at ~$1500? I could possibly offer him ~1200. I just don't know much about cars. I looked up the two parts and they are cheap, I don't know what the labor would cost, maybe my boyfriend could fix it himself or no.
Are those two things serious/dangerous problems? I was concerned they could be potential symptoms of a bigger problem with the car, based on the work that it needs?
Obviously I would check the VIN and feel it out, due to his need to sell it quick. Could be lots of reasons but I will be sure to verify the car is legal to sell to me.

2024.05.13 23:02 The_Forgotten_King For sale: Fully assembled V-Core 3.1 500 mm frame - $500

I'm converting my 500 mm³ Rat Rig V-Core 3.1 to a 4 and have the frame left over, so I'm looking to sell it. By default it comes with:
By default, it has no motors, electronics, extruder, hot end, bed assembly, or enclosure panel. The printed parts are ASA, so this is ready to be enclosed. I'd be willing to include the other parts I have for exactly the replacement cost.
The frame is actually brand new, I didn't complete it before the VC4 came out.
I'm local to Chicago, but am happy to drive a bit or ship wherever. It'd be about $50-$80 in the US depending on how far you are. I'd have to collapse the frame vertically, but the top part with the belt and hot end would stay assembled, as would the electronics panel frame and bottom section. All you'd have to do mechanically is install the four vertical extrusions and three lead screws.
I'm looking for $500+shipping/fees/etc.
Picture of what's included.

2024.05.13 22:58 Mo0chi Newbie looking for some help/guidance on building technic project

Hi! As the title says, I'm an absolute beginner looking to get into building with the technic series. I'm looking for some help selecting the parts (hub, motor, etc.) just to ensure everything is compatible before purchasing as it'll be quite a costly mistake if I accidentally bought the wrong component. I also discovered studio 2.0 recently and am kind of lost on trying to build a "template" of my build just due to the sheer number of parts available to choose from.
Seeking some advise from any kind souls who are willing to help just DM me either here or maybe through discord (mochi04734) if it makes explaining stuff easier over a voice/video call.
Thanks!! :)

Hi. My washing machine is not working anymore. The drum is not moving and as per the user manual, probably the problem is with the motor.
Can anyone please share the contact information of any shop here in Karlsruhe that I can contact to repair the machine? I know that the cost will vary depending on what exactly the problem is. But, does anyone has an estimate how much it could cost me to repair the motor?
I am thinking that if it costs me like 200-300 €, I can then buy a new machine with that much money.

2024.05.13 21:54 Crrrrraig Talk me out of taking the 0.99% APR offer for a Tesla Model Y (or don't)

I'll be honest, I've kinda always wanted a Tesla and I feel like this is the first time I'm actually considering it—the 0.99% APR offer for a Model Y is enticing..
Currently we have a 2019 Hyundai Kona that'll be completely paid off next month, which was $340/mo (that was 0% financing AND before the pandemic...), so we'll have funds opening up for another car, and we kinda need a second car. Right now we only have the one car between my wife and I, and we have to coordinate our schedules around the one car, which is very much a first-world problem, but annoying nonetheless.
The monthly payment for the Model Y would be around $670/mo, which doesn't include the federal tax credit or the "probable savings" and gas savings that Tesla puts in there. We can swing that payment without an issue, but here are my thoughts:

2024.05.13 20:22 AdQueasy4367 Steering Through Choices: Selecting the Right Brokerage Services Company for Cargo Transportation

In the complex world of cargo transportation, businesses rely on brokerage services to navigate the logistical challenges of shipping goods efficiently and economically. A brokerage services company acts as an intermediary between shippers and carriers, playing a crucial role in managing the movement of freight across global networks. Choosing the right partner such as Sargona Private Capital in Greece in this sector is essential for ensuring timely deliveries, reducing costs, and maintaining the integrity of shipments. Here’s how to select the right brokerage services company for your cargo transportation needs.

1. Assess Industry Expertise and Market Knowledge

The first criterion should always be industry expertise. A competent brokerage firm should not only understand the fundamentals of freight brokerage but also possess deep insights into your specific market sector, whether it's perishables, automotive parts, or consumer goods. Their expertise can prove invaluable in navigating regulatory requirements, handling customs, and managing specialized freight needs.

2. Verify Licensing and Credentials

In the cargo transportation industry, it’s critical that a brokerage firm is properly licensed and compliant with industry regulations. In the United States, this means checking that the broker has a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) license. Additionally, verify memberships in relevant industry associations like the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) which can indicate a commitment to best practices and ethical standards.

3. Evaluate Network and Carrier Relationships

The effectiveness of a brokerage firm is largely determined by the strength and breadth of its carrier network. A robust network means more options and backup plans for your shipments. Investigate the firm’s selection criteria for carriers, how they maintain relationships, and their ability to handle different volumes of cargo. A more extensive network often translates to better rates and more flexibility in meeting your shipping needs.

4. Consider Technology and Tools

Technology plays a pivotal role in modern freight brokerage. Effective firms utilize advanced Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to track shipments in real-time, manage routes and carriers, and optimize logistics. The ability to provide real-time data and visibility into the shipping process is crucial for scheduling and managing your supply chain efficiently.

5. Check Financial Stability

The financial health of a brokerage service is crucial, especially when it comes to handling your freight needs during economically turbulent times. Stability often means that the brokerage can maintain consistent service levels, manage payments to carriers promptly, and invest in technology and staff training.

6. Analyze Service Flexibility and Scalability

Every business’s needs are unique and can change over time. A good brokerage service should offer flexibility in handling different types of cargo and scalability to adjust to your business’s growing or shifting needs. This includes having the capability to manage peak seasons, varying shipment sizes, and emergency situations without hiccups.

7. Scrutinize Customer Service and Support

High-quality customer service is essential. Problems such as delays, lost cargo, or documentation errors need to be resolved swiftly and effectively. Evaluate the brokerage’s communication processes, availability for queries and support, and their problem-solving approach. Responsive and proactive customer service can differentiate an excellent brokerage service from an average one.

8. Review Pricing and Fee Structures

Transparent and competitive pricing is fundamental. Request detailed quotes and understand the fee structures thoroughly—this includes identifying any hidden costs or potential additional charges that might arise. It's not always about choosing the lowest bidder but finding the best value that combines reasonable costs with reliable service.

9. Read Reviews and Seek Referrals

Lastly, leverage the experiences of others. Read online reviews, case studies, and testimonials to gauge the brokerage’s reputation. Additionally, seek referrals from within your network. Personal recommendations can provide honest insights and help you gauge the firm’s effectiveness and reliability in real-world operations.

Conclusion

Selecting the right brokerage services company for cargo transportation is critical to the success of your logistical operations. A strategic approach to choosing a broker can lead to improved operational efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced service delivery, ultimately providing a competitive edge in the fast-paced world of commerce.

Windows not working- volvo dealership says new DTC needed-
Hi everyone,
I’m am hoping someone may be able to advise.
The windows on 2016 volvo v40 stopped working, all except the passenger window, which is still operating fine.
I brought it to Volvo to run diagnostics. I will attach the diagnostics report that they sent me.
They have told me I need a new DTC unit, and the cost (including to do the software) will be 560 euro, I have paid 140 euro for the diagnostics already.
My question is, is there any way this could be something else, that might not require a new unit? I rang an independant motor factor and the guy on the phone said would it be connected to the battery, and in the diagnostics report the only fault is ‘DTC- circuit short to battery’
The volvo dealership in question are not reputable. But I had not choice but to go to them, because my windows were open and I couldn’t leave the car exposed at night. I paid for the diagnostics and they were able to force the windows up for me, until I decide what to do. They already tried to overcharge me for diagnostics, because when I rang them to check on the status, the guy on the phone told me more diagnostics would need to be done, and he would have to charge another 140. My dad was beside me and knew that wasn’t right, and the guy quickly changed his tune, and said car didn’t need extra diagnostics. Naturally, I don’t want to pay 560 for a new DTC unit if there’s a chance it could be something else causing the windows to malfunction.
If anyone has any advice or experience of a similar issue , I’d be super grateful. Thank you.

2024.05.13 18:10 Mysticspyglass WIBTA? To file on my brothers home insurance ?

My daughter (9) was at My brothers house on Easter along with majority of my family and friends celebrating the holiday. She along with several other children were riding fourwheelers, dirt-bikes and other motorized vehicles. When I arrived she was told to get off the 4-wheeler cause it was too big for her. She immediately drove it to the back and rolled it , this resulted in her cracking the base of her skull, rupturing her spleen, and fracturing her ribs. Thank god she survived and is able to still enjoy life but the injuries could have been so much worse. Well now after being life flighted staying in PICU for 4 days and peds for 2 days follow up care and physical therapy, the medical bills are upwards of $$125,000! I want to claim this injury on their homeowners insurance, civilly, but am being met with argument because it could possibly Raise their premiums or Mortgage. WIBTA to file or should I just eat the cost
