2024.05.12 23:47 Pale-Tax-5281 Help me! My pacman frog won't come out!

Hi everyone!
I'm new to frog keeping as I bought my first and only frog a little less than a year ago. I reach out to all who are willing to enlighten me or help me in any way. I have a pacman frog, his name is Alfred and I bought him when he was just 3 months old. I had an enclosure ready for him with all he might need, substrate, a water pool, enough space to burrow and feel secure etc.
He was acting pretty standard as I would often find him roaming the enclosure or I would see his eyes poking from below the substrate. I fed him regularly, one small worm per week. He grew quite fast and when he was big enough i started to feed him one superworm per three weeks. Then i changed out his enclosure because the old one was coming up on 4 months of age. I swapped out everything and even installed some vegetation. He acted standard as before for the first week, roaming the enclosure and exploring. Then he started to dig deep into the substrate and he would not come out for days on end. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months.
He has been in this almost paralyzed state with his eyes closed for quite some time. He is alive though as I would manage to wake him up with my tongs and feed him a superworm around a month ago. Ever since he started to become inactive he has had his eyes closed. I chalked it up to maybe cooler temperatures as it was winter time when this started happening (even though i always made sure that the temperatures in the room he was were sufficient). It's not winter time anymore and I am getting worried what might be wrong with him. He seems in good shape overall, i always poke him with my tongs once per week to check if he is alive and he often wiggles in discomfort as if I was waking him up. He often doesn't even bother opening his eyes though.
I am coming up on the deadline of changing his enclosure again, but I need advice/reassurance as to what might be happening to poor Alfred.
PS : I always made sure that he was watered, even when he was burried underground. I also did my best to keep the enclosure moist as a whole.

Red Dead Redemption 2, Unplayable Graphical Glitches
https://reddit.com/link/1cq3p16/video/5k1xhhk5nyzc1/player
Hi, I've attached an image of the sorts of glitches i get, the wired thing is that it worked perfectly fine yesterday, and i played the game for a few hours with only small glitches that didnt impact the gameplay at all, i have tried running the game under both Wayland and X11 , I have also tried launching the game in DX12 mode, but the game just crashes on startup under DX12, I have also searched a few times on google, but all the solutions i saw there seemed to be nvidia gpu specific and their solutions don't seem like they'd do anything on my full amd platform :). In my second attachment i am attaching my full system specs, if someone got this issue before and has a solution i'd appreciate any help you could give me. I am running the game through the Rockstar Games Launcher version Through Lutris, and i have tried multiple different proton version with no change
EDIT: The Issue ended up being related to my system not supporting Resizable Bar which this bug is related to, the issue apparently is not isolated to red dead redemption 2 and seems to also appear in other games, major ones being modern ubisoft games (for example Watch Dogs 2, Legion, Far Cry 5).
to solve this issue you need to do either of the following
  1. Enable ReBar (if your system supports it)
  2. Downgrade your Kernel to version older than 6.8.9 (6.8.8 works fine)
If you are on arch and use the linux zen kernel like me you can do the following steps :
  1. Download the older version of the zen kernel, this can be done with the following command :
wget https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/linux-zen/linux-zen-6.8.8.zen1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
  1. Download the older version of the linux zen headers, this can be done with the following command :
wget https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/linux-zen-headers/linux-zen-headers-6.8.8.zen1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
  1. Downgrade the kernel inside the directory with these archives using the following command :
sudo pacman -U linux-zen-6.8.8.zen1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst linux-zen-headers-6.8.8.zen1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
The solution was found by mbriar_ and wombat1 , many thanks to them for helping with this issue, hope my edit helps someone with this issue

2024.05.11 15:55 Salihe6677 The Evolution of Gaming - a personal retrospective

The first video game I ever played in my life was the Ms Pacman cocktail table arcade video game. My uncle was well off enough to have one of his very own in his basement, and because it was his own personal one, it didn't require an endless stream of quarters. This was basically unheard of at the time, and it made him pretty much the coolest guy ever in my 6 year old or something eyes. It was a whole unit with built-in seats that small me had to scramble up if I wanted reach the magical screen where the sexiest queen dot of the roost munched away endlessly. It was rad as shit, and we could never go to my uncle's house often enough.
I don't remember what the next video game I played was, but it would've been in a dark, chaotic, and cigarette-smoke-filled room, and that room would've contained dozens of loud and brightly colorful machines, all in a row and all weighing several hundreds of pounds. Instead of allowing me to sit, it would've demanded that I stand in front of it, my hands draped inside holding what must've been just fucking filthy knobs, and there wasn't even a hint that it would be free. Quarters were the only currency that mattered, and if you had none, then get the fuck out the way. The only adults in the immediate vicinity were apathetic, perhaps drunk, definitely not paying any attention, and they were so easy to steal cigarettes and quarters from.
The first console I ever owned was the Atari 2600. I played E.T. when it was current and agreed with the general sentiment of "what the actual fuck is this?". There was Pole Position, and Combat!, and Pitfall, and Mario Bros..."wait, what?" you might say, "don't you mean Super Mario Bros?" and I would counter with nope, I mean just the regular Mario Bros that had a version on Atari 2600. It was decidedly less super than the Nintendo version despite still being developed by them. Pong was in there, too, because I mean, of course it was.
Next were actual Nintendo and Sega Genesis, then Super Nintendo, then Playstation 1, 2, and on and on, with all the accompanying tentpole moments. I bought my copy of Super Mario 3 from a pawn shop, and it had a save file already on it that had Mario right before the very last battle with Bowser, so of course, the very first thing I did in the game was beat the final battle, which is not really a tentpole type moment but more indicative of the general environment (I did beat Bowser just to see if I could, and then started a brand new game of my own; it was dope).
I transitioned away from consoles and mostly into PC gaming as it grew around the turn of the century, both solo and of the LAN variety, cramming into a tiny room with friends, our gargantuan monitors, and a literally endless stream of Mt Dew bottles and empty cigarette packs. In that room, we stalked and shot at each other relentlessly in Counterstrike 1.6 and Quake, chasing each other down and BOOM HEADSHOTing over and over. God, what I wouldn't give to still have the twitch reactions I did then.
We played DOTA before the MOBA genre even existed, back when we had to load up our definitely not pirated copies of Warcraft 3 and go through the server browser to manually find this fucking awesome little mode. I couldn't tell you how many hours we spent in that room, smoking cigarettes, drinking Mt Dew, and hunting each other down, but I worked at the arena behind the scenes many years later at The International DOTA tournament), and contrasting the two experiences was...well, it was fucking nuts. And loud.
That sentiment could, I guess, prevail about gaming just in general. Small me clambering up the Ms Pacman game never could've foreseen just how big and pervasive and ubiquitous that gaming culture would become, but it definitely wouldn't have surprised me. In any case, I'm stoked that I got to both witness and actively participate in that evolution.

hi! i have a pacman frog whos about 4 to 5 months roughly. he's my pride and joy and i love him a whole lot. i've been a massive worry wart over the fact i have to move abruptly and suddenly due to family issues and also finding better work, and i'd love to know some tips with transporting a frog like him since i refuse to leave him here with my family
has anyone here traveled with a pacman frog or a frog in general? i know it differs from airline to airline, but i was told to have him as a carry-on item in a see-through plastic container (i'm using an old take-out container i use for his regular feedings with holes poked through the top). any tips would be nice, i've been worrying way too much about this and i leave in a week so i'd just want to make sure nothing horrible happens. i'm trying to make this as smooth and as stress-free as possible for my frog

Will Not Shit
hi! this is princess plumpy, my (nearly?) year old male pacman frog 😁 she is my pride and joy and i am definitely a helicopter parent, so i wanted to ask... how regularly do these guys poop? ive read lots of different answers online, she typically eats earthworms, hornworms, silkworms, and the occasional crickets!! i'm cautious feeding her because of the little wood bits in the soil, sometimes she eats a facefull of dirt, but she's pretty good at spitting it out and she lets me grab any larger pieces from her mouth with my tongs :) the dirt im using is bio dude's terrafirma mixed w some sphagnum deeper down, i use a feeding dish depending on where she is. Anyways she hasnt pooped in like. 1-2 Months. not sure if its been because she's been buried or if shes pooping in the dirt or what. typically i can smell it but idk. i haven't fed her in ~5-7 days to try to help her metabolism but Still No Poop . typically a warm bath makes her poop but i Want her to poop on her own. any advice? she's been looking good and has shown no signs of distress or weird lumps.
tldr; i dont want to have to give her a bath every time to poop (unless i need to), how long is a normal amount between pooping and How can i help her poop on her own. Thanks!!

Intro

Running Roblox in a Virtual Machine!

Intro

CREDIT: keyemail (in the vinegar discord server): Running Roblox in a Virtual Machine!

Intro

This is a guide on how to get Roblox working under a VM with KVM/QEMU using Libvirt. Note that these instructions do not work out these! I can also not guarntee that this setup with remain to last forever, however I do not believe that this setup will not be dead by tomorrow. Also, this guide will ONLY be for either Arch, and Debian (Be aware that i dont use debian, if you have a suggestion let me know), any other distros you will have to do the research on what you need to install.

Requirements

Getting QEMU/KVM with Libvirt

Arch:

# pacman -S qemu libvirt edk2-ovmf virt-manager ebtables dnsmasq # systemctl enable --now libvirtd.service # systemctl enable --now virtlogd.socket # virsh net-autostart default # virsh net-start default

Debian:

# apt update # apt upgrade -y # apt install qemu qemu-kvm qemu-systems qemu-utils libvirt-clients libvirt-daemon-system virtisnt virt-manager -y
Open up Virtual Machine Manager and see if it boots! It should do so, if not something went wrong.

Setting up second GPU passthrough (OVMF Passthrough)

Make sure Vt-d (Intel) or AMD-Vi (AMD) is enabled on the BIOS menu, its also a good time to check if Virtualization is enabled on your BIOS too. To enable IOMMU groups for Intel (AMD Users dont have to worry about this if its enabled on the BIOS) do intel_iommu=on and make sure iommu=pt is also into the kernel parameter (Grub, systemdboot, etc..). After this, REBOOT. To verify that it is enabled use # dmesg grep -i -e DMAR -e IOMMU to verify, it should look something like this.
[ 0.000000] ACPI: DMAR 0x00000000BDCB1CB0 0000B8 (v01 INTEL BDW 00000001 INTL 00000001) [ 0.000000] Intel-IOMMU: enabled [ 0.028879] dmar: IOMMU 0: reg_base_addr fed90000 ver 1:0 cap c0000020660462 ecap f0101a [ 0.028883] dmar: IOMMU 1: reg_base_addr fed91000 ver 1:0 cap d2008c20660462 ecap f010da [ 0.028950] IOAPIC id 8 under DRHD base 0xfed91000 IOMMU 1 [ 0.536212] DMAR: No ATSR found [ 0.536229] IOMMU 0 0xfed90000: using Queued invalidation [ 0.536230] IOMMU 1 0xfed91000: using Queued invalidation [ 0.536231] IOMMU: Setting RMRR: [ 0.536241] IOMMU: Setting identity map for device 0000:00:02.0 [0xbf000000 - 0xcf1fffff] [ 0.537490] IOMMU: Setting identity map for device 0000:00:14.0 [0xbdea8000 - 0xbdeb6fff] [ 0.537512] IOMMU: Setting identity map for device 0000:00:1a.0 [0xbdea8000 - 0xbdeb6fff] [ 0.537530] IOMMU: Setting identity map for device 0000:00:1d.0 [0xbdea8000 - 0xbdeb6fff] [ 0.537543] IOMMU: Prepare 0-16MiB unity mapping for LPC [ 0.537549] IOMMU: Setting identity map for device 0000:00:1f.0 [0x0 - 0xffffff] [ 2.182790] [drm] DMAR active, disabling use of stolen memory
so, if you see [ 0.000000] Intel-IOMMU: enabled your good! Next, your going to want to verify that your GPU is on its own IOMMU Group, if not then youll have to do some patching which isnt in this guide. Run this script:
#!/bin/bash shopt -s nullglob for g in $(find /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/* -maxdepth 0 -type d sort -V); do echo "IOMMU Group ${g##*/}:" for d in $g/devices/*; do echo -e "\t$(lspci -nns ${d##*/})" done; done;
and it should report something like this:
IOMMU Group 1: 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express Root Port [8086:0151] (rev 09) IOMMU Group 2: 00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller [8086:0e31] (rev 04) IOMMU Group 4: 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 [8086:0e2d] (rev 04) IOMMU Group 10: 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 [8086:0e26] (rev 04) IOMMU Group 13: 06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM204 [GeForce GTX 970] [10de:13c2] (rev a1) 06:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GM204 High Definition Audio Controller [10de:0fbb] (rev a1)
notice how group 13 has the cards all by themselves! Its also ok to have a PCIE Express thing in there, but NOTHING ELSE. Also make sure to save the ID's that are in the brackets (e.g. [10de:0fbb] and [10de:13c2]). You need these BOTH for later so save those! Next, edit your mkinitpcio and make sure these are in MODULES:
MODULES=(... vfio_pci vfio vfio_iommu_type1 ...)
if you have NVIDIA make sure these are in FRONT, otherwise you might have errors. Last, we need to isolate the card so run: # nano /etc/modprobe.d/vfio.conf and put those ID tags you saved ealier using this command,
options vfio-pci ids=10de:13c2,10de:0fbb
and replace those ids with YOURS. Now, run # mkinitcpio -P to run it along all your kernels and REBOOT. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF (do you know which linux distro I use?? its really hard to tell!!)

Setting up our Virtual Machine!

At this point load up Virtual Machine Manager and get a new VM running.. configure it however you like but and this is import, BEFORE HITTING FINISH HIT "Customize Installation before Install" and in the Overall tab make sure to your chipset is Q35 and your firmware is UEFI (Secure boot with windows 11). Go ahead and finish it off and install windows like regular. Once your done boot off the VM and go into the config area again, you will need to edit some XML so you have been warned. Make sure XML editing is enable! (Edit -> Prefrences -> Enable XML Editing) Tip: To add hardware use the "Add Hardware" button! Make sure to add BOTH PCIE devices (Nvidia Card and Nvidia Audio, they should be the same PCIE 1st number along with the card name in brackets)! Next, you need to get rid of spice graphics so in the Video module turn it to None and then get rid of the sound card (right click), and also get rid of the USB redirects, and then at the bottom of the XML file youll see the

2024.04.22 22:53 IntelligentPerson_ zellij (terminal multiplexer)

My initial reaction to installing zellij is that it is very big in size compared to tmux. For comparison, tmux is 1mb and zellij 25.5mb (this is what pacman reports as installed size on installation and what I'm referring to with these numbers). The difference in size is so huge. I'm just curious and would like some explanation how it is justified such a big difference. Does it have a lot more features? Is it justified in your opinion, or is the app trying to be more than it needs to be?
On a side-note, I'll also point out that zellij on github has more than 760 open issues at the time of writing while tmux has 61. Of course, it's a much younger project so it's expected it will have more issues, but again there's a smaller user base (I'm assuming) and the difference is so big. If you're using zellij regularly, do you have any comments about bugs or issues you've encountered? More interestingly, have you experienced many regressions or breaking changes (things that suddenly stop working for no good reason or things that stop working because of api changes in zellij)?
I'd like to hear what people think. Are these things to be concerned about?

2024.04.20 20:22 _Rickname_ Issues with running pacman commands

I'm not a regular Linux user, but I have come across some problems with pacman.
I have checked a lot of sources, and it seems my drive is corrupt, but I can still use it perfectly fine apart from pacman. Oh, and after wanting to install something with pacman, the keys are also corrupt, but it doesn't delete them when prompted. I want to reinstall the OS if necessary, and I really want to keep data, but I don't know what to back up.

2024.04.20 06:51 throwaway0923841222 Pacman Error: `error: Partition / too full: x blocks needed, y blocks free` [ x > y ]

I just tried to install gimp through pacman, using sudo pacman -Syy gimp. I accepted the dependencies (394MB worth), and was given the following errors:
error: Partition / too full: 111160 blocks needed, 102618 blocks free error: not enough free disk space error: failed to commit transaction (not enough free disk space) Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
The drive Arch is installed to is /dev/sda, which has 444GB/896GB filled. Of course, this error is surprising as well as troubling to me. I can only guess as to why this may be.
To install Arch, I used archinstall. While formatting the SSD the OS is installed on, I selected the default option make 3 partitions to store /boot, /, and /home. I see this when I lsblk, the output contains /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2, and /dev/sda3 that are mounted to these points in-order. I mention this because maybe it has something to do with the error, but when I du -hs / I see that something close to 444G (some files were not able to have their sizes read).
As I type this, I realize I can open gparted and check the size of /dev/sda2 to see if it's close to full. I open gparted (which I was just able to install via pacman, btw) and see that it has 18.6GB/20.0GB filled.
What exactly is happening here? Can I simply resize /dev/sda2 to like 30GB and stave off the error?
If so, and problem is simply a partition that needs more space, why possibly could the root partition have gotten so filled? I do not intentionally store any files in there, and with all package managers i use (not many; pacman, pip, and once or twice cargo) I install everything locally to the user. Could there be a misstep in how I have something configured, or is this just something that eventually happens on a regularly used Arch desktop with only 20.0GB for the root partition?
