I was curious about this place so I looked it up. They're still open and have multiple locations.
I commented before that they probably weren't happy to have Cameran giving them bad PR by lying and saying their burritos gave her stomach issues.

2024.05.15 18:18 throw667 I'm So Glad My HOA Board are All Latinos!

I've lived in the North side for three years and last night I went to my local HOA meeting for the first time. I'm keenly interested in my neighborhood (duh, who isn't), and my kids Chelseay, Jazzmin and Earl (not Edgar haha) were at Ballet-Kung Fu-Tennis class. Finally some me-time!
Because I'm White (don't hate!) I've been trying to discover the soul of San Antonio since moving here. I've been to highly recommended restaurants on the Riverwalk, plus I have a Latinx gardener (I think he's Honduran, not Mexican't, but I won't tell tee hee). And I just found a good source! My HOA Board members are all Latino!
I engaged with them, asking questions about the annual brush pickup and whether I should sell my son's Kia. Then I went on about where to find the largest flour tortillas in the city (they should know!) and what is "guisada." They were so helpful and patient with me that I tipped all of them three dollars, like I give my housekeeper. I'm so happy now that I've learned all the local customs!
My male-partner (don't call him a husband) and I have traveled around the world and always want local color. But we thought that would be when we drive to the Riverwalk for an hour of immersion into excellent real Mexican food and photographing the Hispanix who serve food and empty trash bins. Real Insta moments I tell ya! I got 45 new followers just from one photo of a Mexican guy driving a boat! Then we would go back to the North side and dial it down with authentic Chinese takeout (Pei Wei ftw) and binging on PBS.
And has anybody noticed that our Latinx people all look kinda Asian? I lived in California so I know a thing or two. Like, maybe a few decades ago, or a thousand years ago, some Chinese people landed in Mexico and mixed with the locals? I'll ask the authentico (look at me speaking Spanish!) board members at next month's meeting.

2024.05.15 16:05 izthewiz00 tulum

me and my boyfriend are 23-24 yrs old . we visited tulum for the first time ever may 10-15th. we ARE mexican american but we learned ALOTTT being there. while my boyfriend speaks perfect spanish, i am a little more on the proficient side. before coming to tulum, i did the mistake of checking reddit about tulum. i even asked my boyfriend if we could cancel our trip because of all the things i was seeing . i have only been to mexico once before this . i think a lot of people make it sound worse than it is. we felt safer in the centro than we did in the hotel zone!! there was people of all races and ethnicities riding their bikes and scooters in the nighttime we rented a car and didn’t deal with police stopping us. we did see them stop one person our entire time there and he was a local. we did see them take someone’s license plate but it’s bc they were parked in a no parking zone. yes we are hispanic but that does not keep the locals from taking advantage! we went to the artisanal market and walked into a shop. we spoke to him in spanish and we were honest and said we were from the USA. he immediately began saying that just bc we spoke spanish, he was going to give us good prices but if we were “white” he would charge us more. while we were flattered , i felt bad knowing this is how the tourists are trapped. he gave us a bunch of free stuff though lol . then, went to a shop in the centro to buy a shirt before i left. my boyfriend was speaking to the owner and told him we are from guanajuato mexico and i entered the store by myself. the vendor was trying to sell me 2 shirts for 1250 pesos (about 75 usd). when he was trying to sell my boyfriend immediately walked in and told me no we need to look elsewhere. the owner walked over to the vendor and told him to lower. he only lowered 100 pesos and we began to walk out. the vendor said i’ll give you the 2 shirts for 800 pesos (about 50usd) which is normal in the USA but expensive for mexico. we ended up getting them . they are trying to make a living so obviously be respectful when turning them away. is tulum expensive? yes. any touristy place is expensive. but what we really came for was the cenotes and beach. we didn’t do any fancy beach clubs or go to crazy restaurants because we want to experience the culture here and not the gentrified version of the city. overall we had a great time, lots of yummy local food and spent about 2k for our entire trip including , flight, stay, food, car etc.

2024.05.15 13:09 Additional-Hold-6660 Restaurant/Fast food phrases

I made a post here asking for restaurant phrases which were really helpful and came across some threads about taking orders in spanish which were also very helpful. I just have a few specific phrases i'm looking to translate (preferably in Mexican spanish) appreciate the help!😊
Your order will be out on the left/right, you can wait over there for your order (or something along those lines)
We don't have meals/combos
We only have this size/ We only have large ___
Which drink would you like?
We can't take out the pickles
Your name for the order?
I also want to have a response to "gracias" and i'm not sure if "claro" is too casual or impolite
side note: i notice myself nodding my head silently when someone orders so is there anything i can say as a response to taking down their order?

2024.05.15 08:55 arc-_ advice on "oh god she's my roommate"

previous post
arg, it's been a tough day. cw: transphobia, anxiety
she's gone through two weeks of hell since we kissed, midterms, two 20 hour roadtrips back home, super intense, haven't seen each other much.
today was her last midterm, and we went to dinner together to celebrate. it's this cute kinda fancy vegan mexican place in downtown, we've gone to it once before. but i was feeling really off today, and i didn't know why. it was kinda awkward, and i eventually said sorry i was being so quiet, and of course she was so kind about it. a bit later she brought up how my dad had called me yesterday. it was a really bad phone call, my first time talking to him one on one in over a year. last time he said he thought trans people were delusional....
but she brought it up so gently, and i that made me realize that was why my day had been so hard, and i had been guilting myself for not being in a good mood (hmmm where did i learn that from...?) even though she literally has always been so supportive when i'm in a dark mood. but something about her being so tuned into my emotions broke something in me.
then when she was paying for the bill, (normally one of us pays and takes a picture of the receipt so we can split it), i tried to take a picture but she flipped it and said she was paying. i just looked at her and so many emotions came up and i had no idea why, i couldn't even say anything, i just kept looking at her. so many emotions flashed across her face, but i couldn't say anything. eventually she broke the silence and said "oh just cause i like ate most of the food," even though we split everything.
on the drive home i cried, but hid it. when we got home i broke down crying on the couch. i didn't know why, which always frustrates me (hmmm where did i learn that from...?). but we decided to watch a movie and she made me tea and we ate churros she had ordered at the restaurant 🥺.
after the movie, all of the emotions started coming back up again, and i went upstairs to go to bed. and then i just started sobbing like i haven't cried that hard in so long, and i had an anxiety attack, and the words in my head were just repeating "nobody has loved you since you were a young child, they loved a fake version of you that you created for their version of love."
and i realized, this whole time i've been falling for her, every time she makes any display of affection, i always break down. it's a cycle. the tension builds, she breaks the tension, and then i spiral and pull away. and now i know why. my true self is still so deeply buried, but she see's me and treats me so well, and it scares me. i feel like i don't deserve it.
now my words are haunting me. when i told her she made me cry after she flirted with me, how i wrote a letter about how much it hurts to be her roommate after she got me a rose, how whenever she inched closer on the couch i would be distant and sad the next day.
now she just saw me sobbing after she paid for my dinner for the first time.
what do i do?
she doesn't want a relationship, and i didn't think i did either, but now i'm questioning. did i give up on myself from the start?
this has been truly a life changing friendship for both of us. she supported me to stand up to my sister for the first time and I wrote my sister a letter about how she hurt me. i supported her to change her major from a B.S. to a B.A. in the last quarter before she graduates, she had always wanted to, but her friends didn't support her. i got harassed at school like i had before a few years ago and i finally had the courage to stand up to the school and fight them for a month to get the accommodations I needed. she has started being able to say "i am gay" for the first time. we let our inner children play pretend together, without restrictions on gender roles.
i don't want to risk our friendship. i could easily see us being lifelong friends. but i could also see us being more. but i'm scared. i don't think it's the right time. i still need to figure out what i want do do after college. i have so much healing to do. i don't want to risk hurting her.

2024.05.15 06:24 Accused_Lima_Bean_69 The Harrowing Tale of the Chicken Shortage

In the bustling world of fast-casual dining, where every decision can make or break a company's success, there existed a CEO named Mr. Nickles, the visionary leader of a renowned chain of Mexican restaurants. Under his guidance, the company flourished, serving up delicious burritos, bowls, and tacos to hungry patrons across the nation.
But in the spring of 2024, a crisis loomed on the horizon that threatened to disrupt the very foundation of Nickles's empire. It was the great chicken supply chain shortage—a catastrophe of epic proportions that sent shockwaves through the industry.
As the shortage worsened, Nickles faced a difficult decision. With chicken prices soaring and supplies dwindling, he knew he had to take action to ensure the survival of his company. Reluctantly, he made the tough call to temporarily forgo ordering chicken for his very own burritos and burrito bowls, in solidarity with the vast workforce who were mandated to make the same sacrifice.
The decision was met with mixed reactions. Some employees understood the necessity of the sacrifice, while others grumbled about the loss of their favorite protein option. But Mr. Nickles remained steadfast in his commitment to weathering the storm together with his team.
Minutes turned into hours, and hours turned into days as the shortage dragged on. The company faced mounting pressure from shareholders and customers alike, but Nickles refused to waver in his resolve. He rolled up his sleeves and worked tirelessly alongside his employees, leading by example and demonstrating his unwavering dedication to the company's values.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the chicken supply chain began to stabilize, and Nickles could breathe a sigh of relief. The crisis had passed, but not without leaving its mark on the company and its employees.
Looking back on those dark days, Nickles knew that the true measure of a leader lay not in times of prosperity, but in times of adversity. And though the great chicken shortage of 2024 had tested him in ways he never could have imagined, it had also reaffirmed his belief in the resilience of the human spirit and the power of unity in the face of adversity.
With renewed determination, Nickles vowed to lead his company into a brighter future, knowing that together, they could once again scoop chicken. And as the doors of his restaurants swung open on the dawn of a chicken-filled-pan day, there was a sense of hope and optimism in the air—a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who refused to be defeated, even in the darkest of times.

2024.05.15 06:05 goosegrabber82 I’m so exhausted by my parents

I’m genuinely just tired and empty after our last interaction. I (20f) take off work to see them for nearly a month and I just ask to go with my boyfriend and his family since they’re inviting me for their summer trip to a nearby city for memorial day weekend. And it turns into an hour+ long lecture about everything they hate about my boyfriend and what they dislike about me.
I have a traditional Mexican family who are really dug into the traditional (machismo/marianismo) thinking. Because of this: •they don’t recognize him as my partner ever even though i begged them to for months (2year relationship) •barely recognize him as a person “ese muchacho o este persona” •hate that he doesn’t respect them •hate that he didn’t eat at the restaurant they invited us to (devours the leftovers every time) •really offended that he sat cross cross at the table when I do it constantly? •don’t think he can provide for me •judge the fact he isn’t working a full time job while he’s getting a clinical lab postgrad degree •don’t think he’s “man enough”
And shifted it onto me when they were satisfied: •3 years of calling me easy and not fully believing i’m going to graduate college (i’m getting magna cum laude at the end of the year if i keep getting A’s🤞) •hate how I don’t talk to them anymore •really circled back on how they don’t know who i am anymore cause i’m not as happy as i was in HS •think i’m a pushover dog in my relationship •say there’s nothing wrong with my hobbies but think i should stop buying warhammer bc “i’ve spent enough on it, it’s time to move on to practical things” •are upset i don’t communicate when they used to tell me as a kid that i should be quieter •are upset it feels like i don’t want to be back at home and it’s like yeah no shit i am tired of getting shit on constantly.
He hates my parents because of how they treat me and he’s tired of seeing me cry. He treats me well and I feel genuine love and care from him. It isn’t perfect since we still fight sometimes but we hold each other accountable and i’m the luckiest girl in the world to have someone like him choose to support me everyday. I don’t want to waste effort crying over this so i’ll probably just watch youtube until I pass out but man I’m just done. But i’ll have to mask and act all excited and outspoken until i go back to school :(

2024.05.15 05:46 live4film87 Guacamole is extra...obviously. We don't need to be told that

It seems every Mexican restaurant , either fast food or sit down always says "guac is extra". No shit! It's extra everywhere in the world. The fact that they have to specify that is ridiculous and it grinds my gears.

2024.05.15 02:46 UnicornSheets I’ve been glutened restaurant “corn” chips

So my friends took me out to dinner as a thank you for weeding their garden. They took me to a Mexican restaurant and I asked the waiter to verify each item was GF that I ordered.
After some back and forth all was verified gf except the restaurant chips were gf except fried in the same fryer as everything else. Usually this isn’t a problem for me so we went ahead as planned. That guacamole and restaurant chips was almost too good…. Now I’m paying the price :’(
I’m actually wondering if those chips were corn+wheat chips because of this almost day long bathroom reaction
