Indoor food growing
So i've seen a few posts recommending growing your own food to save on groceries and keep profits away from mega corporations. So in that spirit, here is a picture of my indoor hydroponic garden using the kratky method.
From this 6 square foot shelf I harvest about 1.6kg of food every week, year round. I mostly grow microgreens and bok choy, (which are pictured here) but also occasionally do tomatoes, peppers, and some other fruits.
This setup costs costs me about $3.20 each week to run including electricity, seeds, and nutrients but to buy the same produce in the store would be over $100.
I started out small in recycled yogurt containers and scaled up as I became more confident. It's a lot l easier than you may expect and is a great way of eating healthier while also becoming less reliant on some of these corporations.

2024.05.16 19:05 gomaggieo This isn't goodbye... its see you later... maybe (Moving on to Plan-W -- Wegovy).

So I have given up on Zep. I have had amazing success that I haven't seen in decades. 208 lbs has been unreal every time I see it on the scale. I started in Feb 2024 after realizing if I didn't do something more I was looking at a lot more medications (and even more health problems) than just a weight loss one. I saught professional medical help (bariatric clinic) and haven't looked back. I dove all in. I have rails for what I eat and drink (lots of whole foods with emphasis on fruits and veggies). Lots of water (not electrolytes). And this is the healthiest and best I have felt in such along time. Hell, I sprinted (for me) to catch up with friends (100% didn't even really think about doing it but just did it) the other day and didn't feel like my knees would explode. *mind officially blown*
Its been a little over 100 days on Zep. And its been more than I could have hoped. By no means is it a cake walk, but I have done similar eating/work out habits to watch the scale not budge (sometimes gain). I moved up to 5mg and saw sustainable weight loss. It was roughly 2lbs per week, but going to 2.5 mg has put all momentum to a halt (thankfully not gaining though).
I just can't do it anymore...the constant calling, questioning, hoping, and the overarching stress and worry (my high cortisol levels can't be helping). So instead of hoping, and praying to the Lilly gods that I will be graced with a box, I've talked to my doctor and going to Plan-W (Wegovy) instead. I may had even started there if there wasn't shortage issues over there. Who knows. I know some people are making the switch this way, but I am going the other. Its been real. I don't plan on leaving the sub as I may return, but for now with this shortage, my doctor and I agreed that we need to go about it a different way.
Some of you will mention Plan-C. I am not looking for that option. Since I am working with a weight loss specialist doctor (bariatric) I rather not go rouge on her since I have had so much success thus far.
I wish you all the best and success that you can have on this medication, my hope with one less prescription out there that is one more possible box for someone else.

2024.05.16 19:02 Tasty-Personality-51 Does anyone take their IR diamox as a liquid?

So I've seen the pills can be cut, etc. They're just pressed powder. I was wondering if anyone here liquefies it before taking it. I'm considering switching to smaller doses more times per day to even out the side effects. That may be one route to do that. If I could separate it into water bottles that I drink at certain times per day, that might be easier. Especially if I can add electrolytes to the water in preparation.
I don't need advice really as to if anyone feels this is a good idea. Just if anyone is taking it as a liquid.
I do see they're compounding it that way. This paper has some details. I don't need it to be shelf stable since I'd just prepare it daily.

2024.05.16 18:40 prod7dk Reseller Inventory Processing System (At Scale)

Reseller Inventory Processing System (At Scale)
For a little bit of background context, I run a company based in Canada that sells items through Amazon FBA, Walmart, BestBuy, eBay, FaceBook Marketplace, and Kijiji (Canada's craigslist), and we are looking to expand to other third-party marketplaces, and even build our own website. Year-to-date, we have done around $85,000 CAD in sales, so we are still considered to be a small business. In terms of operations, I have a part-time employee in Canada that works around 5 hours a week, and I have a full-time employee overseas. Our company also has an inventory brokering service (companies that want to sell their inventory through our sales channels), that we have recently started. Now, here's where things get interesting.
For one of our clients (electrical contractor) in the inventory brokering side of the business, they just purchased a huge lot of overstock inventory from one of their suppliers (electrical supplies like receptacles, plates, switches, so on and so forth). I'm talking 15 skids worth of inventory with a retail value of $115,000+ CAD. We were assigned this job, and as you can tell, the amount of inventory we will have to process is crazy (at least to us). So here's the kicker, I am looking at an inventory processing system at this scale which would make sense.
I am looking for something all-in-one from receiving to shipping out. What we currently do is something like this:
https://preview.redd.it/h4ra7ju8gt0d1.png?width=1296&format=png&auto=webp&s=77984a73050109e9fe257a2dcd2f406a2b48ee83
As you can see, this is not efficient, as any units sent off to Amazon FBA, do not get listed on the other platforms, and vice versa (we are losing potential sales due to this).
With this huge 15 skid lot, I want to fix this issue, and have all of our inventory numbers synced in between platforms. Also, I would like to make it easier to list across platforms (list it from one central app, instead of listing it on Amazon, Walmart, BestBuy and so on separately). I was also wondering what other processed that bigger resellers use to accurately track and fulfill their inventory, and how do you decide where each piece of inventory goes to, as well as selling wholesale lots/B2B. Inventory management is another issue we are facing.
Any advice is greatly appreciated! I can also answer any questions anyone might have! This is a huge stepping stone for the business, and I'm very excited to start this journey. Looking forward to what everyone has to say!

2024.05.16 18:24 mysterynick Seeking Advice on Off-the-Shelf Plunger Mechanisms for Table Lamp Design

Hello Reddit,
I'm currently working on designing a table lamp with a cast-material base, which will likely be made of concrete or plaster. I'm planning to incorporate a push-button to control the lamp, and I'm considering using a plunger mechanism that will activate an electronic button inside the base.
I want the push-button to be aesthetically pleasing and functional, so I might need to design the button myself and possibly integrate it with an off-the-shelf plunger mechanism. To keep costs low, I'm looking for recommendations on where to find suitable plunger mechanisms or switches.
Specifically, I'm looking for:
Any tips on where to purchase these components (online or in-store) and any specific product recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

2024.05.16 18:24 Intelligent-Funny303 Need help !

I was on Cryselle birth control for five months and gained 30 pounds. I've been trying to lose the weight for almost seven weeks, but my weight remains stagnant despite eating healthy and working out. I eat 1200-1500 calories a day and walk 10,000+ steps daily. Has anyone else experienced this? How long will it take for my body to return to normal? I have been doing this for about six weeks and have not lost a single pound. I am using MyFitnessPal to track my calories. Has anyone experienced this? I have been eating nutrient-dense food. I haven’t lost not even one pound despite eating within my calories and having more than 10k daily with nutrient dense food . 130 G protein , 94 g carbs and 64g fat daily for seven weeks . Only answer is the birth control. I also get lipo b 12 shots weekly . In the past , I use to drop like 8 pound in a month if needed with my routine .
I use a scale and I have been 153 pounds my entire life and I live in the city so I walk 10-20k steps daily . This weight gain occurred after I took the bc for 5 months .i track my steps daily and what I eat daily . I pretty much eat the same thing and dot switch up my diet much . I did bloodwork and everything came back normal.
I’m 5”8

2024.05.16 18:10 ItGetsPeopleGoing No Game Audio on PC

Coming here in the hopes of finding a fix for this, but I feel like I'm just SOL. When Googling this problem, it seems like this has been a problem for years with no fix, but hoping to at least ask again with the recent updates that have just come out (most recent post or how-to was from 10 months ago).
When I load the game, the intro video will always play just fine. However, when I get to the menu, no audio. At first, I was able to play the game with some audio functions missing (no gun reload, no footsteps, no music/weathebackground), but now it outright doesn't have audio. I've tried numerous methods to fix:
I'm at my wits' end here, especially with 70 hours on my new playthrough and barely scratching the surface, then just having this game "bricked". Find it so hard to believe that this issue has persisted as far back as 2016 and there has been no fix for this, even with mods.

2024.05.16 17:52 Ninurtah KBD Revamp

Kbd is one of our oldest pieces of content in the game, dating back to 2002. In OSRS, kbd has been almost entirely unchanged since then, with the occasional drop table shuffle here or there. There's also a 2-for-1 with what I'm proposing, which should make Barrows armour pricier. I propose a way to "enrage" kbd, and access a new fight, with new mechanics, new drops and a quest to unlock the ability to do this. The quest will focus on the dragonkin rehashing old experiments, finally focusing on grafting the corrupted barrows metal onto kbd's scales, creating the King Barrow Dragon.
Kbd+ should sit at the higher end of mid-tier content, alongside Vorkath, Zulrah and Hydra, and provide comparable gp/h. Kbd fight - 3 phases, one for each head remaining until dead. Kbd will exclusively attack with 2 of the 3 combat styles during the fight, switching combination based on the phase. He will also use coloured firebreath relating to the phase he's in. White, green, blue.
Phase 1 - Ice head. Ranged/magic. Kbd will periodically freeze the player in place, where they will have to spam-click the floor to break out, hespori-esque. Kbd will also breathe into the air and freeze the cavern above him, causing stalactites to form. He then stomps and causes these to fall on random tiles in the boss room. When KBD stomps, if the player is on an adjacent tile to KBD, they will be knocked back and stunned just long enough to not be able to move away from the dropping stalactites. These stalactites will leave puddles of water on the floor. These will not fade away until the end of the fight. Kbd will only perform this mechanic once per fight.
Phase 2 - poison head. Melee/ranged - will constantly move within melee range of the player. Kbd will spit pools of poison on the floor over the course of the fight. Standing on these pools will deal 3-6 tick damage with poison resistance, 5-10 without. These will not fade away until the end of the fight. Kbd will tail swipe the player, with a chat-box notification saying "The King Black Dragon readies its tail"If the player does not move out of melee range of the KBD, the swipe will knock the player back 4 tiles, taking typeless melee damage, between 20-40. If they are knocked into a wall, the player will be stunned for 2 seconds.
Phase 3 - lightning head - Melee/Magic - kbd will remain stationary, only meleeing if the player is in melee range.Kbd will periodically shoot bolts of lightning at the player, dealing magic damage. If the player is stood on or adjacent to one of the pools when this bolt hits, the lightning will jump to the pool and detonate it, dealing typeless damage to the player. Fight will end when this phase is over.
Drops: Kbd should be focused on dropping low to mid level ores and herbs in large quantities, to be attractive to Ironman accounts, as well as dragon armour items, weapons, and runite pieces. The total drops from these should roughly equate to 1.5m/hr in drop value. Uncommonly, KBD should drop a Wightsteel Icon. This is an untradeable item that will attach to barrows armour, making them untradeable but giving them a small stat improvement across the board, as well as a dark-purple trim to the armour. This armour should have worse stats than Torva, but sit firmly above the original barrows pieces. Rarely, KBD should drop a Wightsteel Claw. Also untradeable, this will attach to the barrows weapons, giving them a dark purple glow and darkening the metal components of the weapons. This will also make the weapons untradeable, but they will still degrade. They will only be rechargeable by adding Wightsteel Scrap to the weapon. Whilst providing no stat bonuses, they will provide a boost to the armour's set effect, *only* if the full set of upgraded barrows armour is worn. *Wightsteel Scrap can be created by the player by destroying barrows armour on an anvil with 80 smithing. It should be tradeable. Kbd should also drop this rarely. My hope is that we can use KBD to fill an equipment gap in the game between Bandos (60m) and Torva (700m~), between Ahrim's and Ancients, and Karil's and Masori, focusing on higher defence rather than increasing dps. It also provides an opportunity to add utility to the armour sets, such as a full ahrim's set reducing melee stats with successful magic damage, karil's reducing magic damage dealt and Torag's dealing more damage to targets based on their % defence level reduction, although these are massive changes. The entire suggestion is subject to massive testing, but imo it's a good idea to make both Barrows more profitable and add another high-mid boss for players. (Wightsteel icons could also change the appearance of King Black Prince, since the pet grind is the only content that matters).
I hope you enjoyed reading this idea :)

2024.05.16 17:40 DieterDrydigger CLOV and Understanding Upcoming SaaS Potential v2

Here was my first post looking at the potential from a 30K foot level:
So as I mentioned in my first post, my brain was racing last night as I really began analyzing what Toy said in his LI post yesterday. I started looking at what the potential could really look like if Clover Health became a hybrid Insurance/Healthcare + Software/Technology company and was able to monetize the tech side of it more effectively.
Valuations are significantly more robust in tech for good reason- they're predictable with much more linear revenue model.
Brief history of software licensing- SaaS stands for Software as a Service and has revolutionized the way software has been managed since the early to mid 2000s. Prior to ~2004ish, for consumers you had what was called perpetual software licensing that was installed by the buyer and was licensed to use in perpetuity, never again seeing any fees. You also had VERY expensive (mainly for larger corporations) on-premise software, allowing companies much more control and security over their software instances, but with heavy infrastructure costs capital investments (servers, etc).
So what software vendors did was release new updates every year or so, trying to entice users that they needed the new version (think Windows 4.0 and Windows 95, 98, etc, if you really want to throw it back) and kind of similar to iPhones now a days, many people will skip 2-3 generations before buying new.
However, many consumers opted to skip multiple versions in order to save some money, until theirs became so obsolete, they had to. It was much more unpredictable to forecast for wall st. There were also massive amounts of piracy around the world (China specifically) costing many of these companies literally billions in revenue each year that was difficult to prevent or stop. Enter drastically higher Internet speeds and the much improved infrastructure requirements needed for SaaS circa 2003-2005.
I worked for a startup company on the cutting edge of SaaS around 2007 that was acquired by Adobe specifically because we were very good at our SaaS model, and Adobe wanted to figure out how to switch their Creative products over to a SaaS model.
After the acquisition, during one of the first few all hands meetings, Adobe's CEO expressed how excited he was to learn from us during their transition of their licensing model and how big of an issue licensing fraud/piracy was and how switching to SaaS would likely fixt that. When we were acquired ~2010, Adobe's stock price was something like $14 a share from what I remember following the acquisition, and hit nearly $700 roughly in 2021, roughly 8 or so years after making the transition off of perpetual licenses. I had thousands of RSUs and it was a fun run, though it's been some time since I've worked there.
The reason why SaaS is great (for a consumer), is because there are never any updates to buy, companies manage all of that now and push updates on a regular bases, but instead of a one-time purchase, you pay on an ongoing basis for your "seat" every month.
Some of the largest SaaS vendors are companies like Salesforce, Adobe, Autodesk, Oracle, SAP. They way they scale is by number of employees within a company logging in to their CRM or one of their many other services.
For example a small company with say, 200 employees has 25 seats (aka, 25 different people) can log in and they may be paying $100 per seat, per month. However a company with 10K employees and 1000 users may only be paying $25 per seat... these are all arbitrary figures, but show how it scales.
Adobe, on the other hand may have a single product for $50 a month, or their entire creative bundle for $100 per person. College or HS students may get it for much cheaper like $25 a month.
You also have up front implementation fees that can be in the tens of thousands or even millions of dollars depending on the size of the org.
Anyway, I've gotten much deeper into the details than I anticipated when I sat down and started typing, but I've been trying to figure out how Clover's model would work, i.e., who are they selling to and how?
Ultimately, it's the insurance providers that are looking to reduce their MCR rates, so they have to play a role in all of this, but you also have a ton of doctors that are on the front lines needed to make all the data work.
I'm sure Andrew knows exactly how they want to go to market, but if I had to guess, they would sell some sort of access license to the large insurers (United, Humana, etc) and then there would be a second component pricing out these "seats" or "lives under management" is probably how it would translate in the healthcare field, to the doctors. Doctors that are then rewarded with some sort of kickback if the insurers see they're using is properly, costs are decreasing or something like that.
This is where it get's a little fuzzy for me and I'd love to hear Toy's next update on how they plan to go to market.
In terms of TAM, I read that there are somewhere in the range of (edit:) ~60M for ALL of Medicare w/ 30-35M being Medicare Advantage actively enrolled currently in the US.
UnitedHealthcare, alone, accounts for 29% of all Medicare Advantage enrollment in 2023, or 8.9 million enrollees. Together, UnitedHealthcare and Humana account for nearly half (47%) of all Medicare Advantage enrollees nationwide. By comparison, CLOV has just shy of 80K enrollees mainly in NJ, some in GA and fewer in SC, TX and Philly area of PA. That's it.
So if, CLOV could tap into these markets that United and Humana (and Cigna and Centene etc) are already established, show them the proven savings benefits Clover Assistant can provide, it could get real interesting, as long as they don't fumble the GTM.
Now people are asking, well, why doesn't a United, with close to $400B in Rev per year just buy a tiny little company like Clover Health (~$500M market cap)... well, it's because I don't believe they can, because Vivek has 120M Class B shares with 10x voting power, meaning he has 1.2B votes vs. the remaining float which is roughly 375M Class A, w/ 1 vote each, if Im not mistaken. Meaning, only if Vivek wants to sell, will they ever sell. A hostile takeover cannot happen under his watch.
And if United and Humana and all the large players are struggling to keep costs under control, where they're talking about shrinking their footprints, but CLOV has an industry-leading MCR in the mid-70s. They will have to either build it themselves, acquire another company with a similar tech or will have to pay to get access to it, implement it all while CLOV will be a huge beneficiary.
This could get very interesting... I'll start working on a v3 follow up and dig into some potential numbers...

Recently got a mix of trains
So I'm not a train guy at all but recently got a bunch of random trains in different sizes. A lot are pretty old. I've been trying to Learn how it all works so I can set up my own. One of the problems is getting the right size. I have o, s, ho, and g scales. What's the easiest way to tell which is which? For example I have Bachmann model passenger cars that I was told was s scale but they fit on my "o" scale tracks. Are ho and s tracks compatible? Or do I have mislabeled tracks. See pictures.

Looking for a friend…
Looking for any help/advice. Snagged this rad Spotlight Series Toy Story Woody figure for myself as a birthday gift (because I guess I’m going backwards at 32, ha). Really love it and want to add his friend Buzz to my shelf. Unfortunately, he’s pulling in prices around $150.
Now typically, I’d crank a few IPA’s over the weekend and impulse buy it, but my wife and I have our first baby due in October. So, I’m not trying to needlessly spend more cash than I already do.
Anyone have any suggestions on a scale comparable Buzz to accompany Sheriff Woody? He’s about 9 inches tall.
Thanks I’m advance!

2024.05.16 17:28 Hot_Palpitation5514 I am so done with everything, is there any hope for me ?

I don't even know how to put this, my hands are shivering just by imagining how my next 4 years will be. I am a hardcore failure sooo hardcore I even managed to fail in my drop year. I absolutely fucked up every single exam like viteee jee mhtcet. I had 70 percentile in jee last year and this year I have the same percentile with even worse rank. Viteee idk what the fuck was that rank- i don't even want to mention that its that shit. Mhtcet was my last hope I was getting decent in pyps like around 110 but my retarded ass managed to fumble even that. I swear to god I went completely blank on exam day I wasn't able to recalll a single thing. Idk how much I will get now. I blanked out so bad again my stupid ass forgot to tick around 10 questions in physics 🤡tukke marna tha yeh bhi yaad nahi aaya. I have been depressed since 2 years (since class 12) because of many reasons not academics. Only if I decided to get help back then I think i would have performed good in drop year atleast, not much but a little atleast. I am happy I dragged my ass to a psychiatrist in Jan month, it did help me tremendously and I am not that suicidal anymore.. but to dayy i have regret of not visiting one already. Now with such shitty scores I will prolly going to a local college which I was also getting last year. Matlab drop leke kuch fayda nahi hua. My parents are very supportive but really strict. I have wasted their money without yielding any result. Now i will prolly be wasting money on the tier 3 college i will be joining. I don't know how to or how would you describe tier 3 college. The college i will be joining has literally zero college life. Small ass campus. college fee isn't that much and I am sure i will get this college because of minority quota and avg placement goes around 4-5 lakh. My parents are strict and they want me to be financially independent by the age of 25 at least. Which is quite sensible and they won't help me financially when I will be 25 and I am damn sure about this, so it's gonna be a do or die situation for me. They even remind me of this constantly. I will turn 18 in few months, I was 17 when I took a drop year this kind of clutched the age thing lmao. Coming to the point I will be taking up computer science which I don't want to but since it's a tier 3 college cs will be the best option 🤡, i don't know shit about computers ima keep it real. I only know a little bit of html only which was taught in schools. All my life i have been using my pc to play games and surf the internet. I don't get most of the shit infact I can diagnose a simple problem in pc i am that bad at it. I have never been a cse ka choda and I still am not because I absolutely hate it. If I had a option of switching carrier st this point I would die to do it, but there isn't. Only reason I chose pcm if not pcm then what. I gave b arch paper, I did good in drawing part but absolutely fucked up maths and I will not get into architecture even though I am interested in it. Even if I get a college for architecture my parents won't allow me to pursue it. I am just doomed and done with everything at this point, will I even be able to land a fucking job??????? I am absolutely not suicidal but since morning all I have been doing is contemplating suicide. How can I even get started with this computer shit in which I have absolutel zero interest, is there any hope like can I be financially independent by 25 atleast. I mean Independent enough with a good ahh job necessarily not high paying lekin mera guzara ho jaane layak ? Man this sounds utterly stupid gaali Dena hai toh de he do itna chutiya sawaal pucha hai lmao

2024.05.16 17:02 SpencerKayR Why do scale Hovercraft seem to struggle on water?

Hovercraft are a niche occupied by transient consumer products and a lot of semi-janky DIY. And honestly, I love that.
But I've never seen video of an RC hovercraft that seemed to go well on water. When you watch racing hovercraft, it's like they can't even tell they've switched terrain. But a scale hovercraft that flies on a tennis court invariably hobbles on water, bubbling helplessly about.
Is it a matter of weedy lift motors? Bad skirts? A lack of availability of fans that fit the purpose?

2024.05.16 16:49 HoustonBOFH Hey, new guy! Your stuff is cool!

Every so often, we see a post that starts with "I did not think my stuff was ready to show..." or "I just got my stuff to the point where I can share it..." It is like they feel there is a minimum level where their stuff is worth it. Hell no! You just got an old desktop that a school tossed and started with docker? Awesome! Dug some busted laptop out of the trash and are running pi-hole? Sweet! Found an old Dell R710 and are bench-marking the different raid levels on 140gig disks? Wicked! We all started somewhere, and even some of us with a lot of experience and resources have ugly stuff. I literally have a pile of Cisco 3850s next to me, and my core switch is an EnGenius ECS1529P because it is so much quieter! I have 4 rack servers sitting unplugged in my office and my core compute is a Dell SFF desktop. All of my stuff on a shelf in the laundry room! :)
The point of all this is don't knock yourself. You dove into this mess and that is way more than most. And you will LEARN! A lot! And get better. But the better is not the end point. It is about the journey! Welcome to the circus! Now talk about your cool stuff below! Pics welcome!

Years ago, in the early days of online chat, I found myself caught up in a web of deception. This happened many moons ago, every day at 8 a.m. Manila time, which was 8 p.m. Eastern Time, I would wait until Russell went online. He was from New York and a fireman.
And he always did, right on the dot.
There were no apps then, all we had was Yahoo Messenger.
I’m not proud of what I did — it just happened. It was supposed to be a one-time chat, but instead, it went on for months, until I had to come clean and tell him the truth: that I wasn’t the woman in the photo I sent him.
I didn’t even know there was a word for it back then — catfishing.
Of course, when the truth was out, and when I never heard from him again, even if there was never money involved, which means I didn’t defraud him in exchange for sex work — I remember not only feeling hurt for a long time.
I felt awful for what I did — I lied and pretended to be someone else.

OnlyFans Chatter

The Truth About OnlyFans
These days catfishing has taken a new direction, and it is pervasive in the world of online sex work, with the popularity of OnlyFans it gave birth to an army of impersonators known as “chatters.”
It isn't easy to make money online, especially from writing. Anyone who promises you can make X amount if you buy their writing course is selling you not only lies but snake oil, and there’s a word for it — scam.
But I’m not here to preach, I’m here to understand.
I was surprised that my story on sugar dating, and sex work started to have readers. Are people interested in what goes on behind sugar dating apps, with sugar daddies, or mommies? Or is it because sex work, while it remains taboo, is a topic we all like to explore behind the dark walls of our privacy?
Online sex work had exploded.
We hear a lot of success stories, horrid tales, and even crimes that happen in the industry.
A booming industry in countries like the Philippines is an online work that nobody really talks about. If you happen to find yourself enticed to become an OnlyFans chatter, think again. Not only have you entered the rabbit hole of sex work, but you have essentially become a fraudster and in the Philippines, both are considered crimes.
OnlyFans models, many of whom started creating content to survive during the pandemic, soon discovered that there is so much money out there, and as always money brings out the worst in all of us.
To make more money as an OnlyFans model, you need more subscribers or to convince your existing fans to buy more content. While an OnlyFans subscription is only the beginning, the sky is the limit as to how much an OnlyFans model can make — and there lies the gray area of OnlyFans.
To scale their businesses, these models started hiring OnlyFans chatters, people willing to work for pittance in the hope they could make sales that would mean higher commissions from the models.
And what do they sell?
The OnlyFans model’s exclusive content, which can be as basic as a sex video or a special fetish request from a paying subscriber. As an OnlyFans chatter, you pretend to be the model, you become her even if you are a male chatter.
On the other side of the chat, the victim doesn't know he isn't talking to the OnlyFans model but worse to someone who is thousands of miles away, hired as a chatter from a poor country like the Philippines.
Worse still, the poor male fan doesn't know he could even be talking to another man pretending to be a woman.

Worse still, the poor male fan doesn't know he could even be talking to another man pretending to be a woman.

The insidious economy of scale

Ideogram
Who would have thought the capitalist concept of the economy of scale would find its way into the adult content industry?
Sex work has come a long way. It used to be a one-on-one transaction, today we have platforms like OnlyFans that allow an adult content creator to become a business in itself, never before seen in the history of sex work.
First, let us define the meaning of economy of scale.
Economy of scale, in economics, the relationship between the size of a plant or industry and the lowest possible cost of a product. When a factory increases output, a reduction in the average cost of a product is usually obtained. This reduction is known as economy of scale. — Source
If you become a popular OnlyFans model, you will be surprised to learn that you can run your business 24/7 by employing agencies that in turn hire low-paid contractors in poor countries like the Philippines.
The chat specialists they give you, that was a huge deal for me,” she said. The agency provided a team of contractors whose sole job is to masquerade as the creator while swapping DMs with her subscribers. These textual conversations are meant to be the main way that OnlyFans users can interact with the models they adore. — Source
The OnlyFans ecosystem had evolved from being a mom-and-pop porn business into a billion-dollar platform where 190 million people are checking out their favorite OnlyFans model daily.
It is impossible even for anyone who found relative success in the platform to be able to talk to their fans because if they don't, that is a lost opportunity to further sell their products which usually are recycled adult content videos from their content library.
In a Reddit post of an OnlyFans chatter, the conversation had both its supporters and critics. While some would see their work as harmless, and that they are in sales, some recognize that they have become sex workers and while some become experts at being detached and call it part of their job, some have to learn how to desensitize themselves and focus on how they can make more money rather than check their moral values.
Not only do they have to take the persona of the OnlyFans model, but they also have to be engaging, knowing how to do sex talk which later on will need to progress to mastering the art of upselling, and by this means selling more sex videos from the creator.
As much as some would say it is just another way to make money online, and although they don't do any sexual acts themselves, they have become a sex worker, fraudsters, or both.
In its simplest definition, Sex workers are adults who receive money or goods in exchange for consensual sexual services or erotic performances, either regularly or occasionally.
By that definition, the OnlyFans chatter who engage in sex talk and make money from explicit content have undeniably become sex workers themselves.
And once you find yourself in the industry, it changes who you are, your morals and psyche — it just does. Even when I didn’t ask Russell for money, the lies I told him bothered me. I engaged in sex talk, pretended to be a female, and took advantage of Russell's vulnerability.
The whole experience changed who I was.

Final words

In the Philippines, you would even find tutorials on YouTube on how to be accepted as an OnlyFans chatter. There are also exclusive Facebook groups and anonymous Reddit groups where Filipinos would discuss their newfound online work.
A recent article from Wired showed a glimpse into the world of being an OnlyFans chatter, the whole OnlyFans ecosystem, why it had become a multi-billion dollar industry, and how it opened new businesses like chat management firms that hire these contractors.
What is fascinating about the article is that soon, there will be a class action suit against the people behind these chat management companies.
As one lawyer Carey argues, that the managers who run creators’ accounts are engaging in a type of bait and switch that fits the classic definition of fraud. “When you subscribe, the very first thing it says is, ‘Have a DM relationship,’” he said. “Well, that’s totally fraudulent … It’s an open secret they’re just defrauding people.” — Source
I don't judge anyone who finds themselves working as an OnlyFans chatter — the pay is good, and the likelihood of earning beyond what regular jobs can offer often blurs anyone’s moral judgment especially when you find yourself living in poverty like many of these young people in the Philippines.
OnlyFans has become a multibillion-dollar business, and it claims to be a technology company. Yet it all has the elements of sex work — the sex, the money, and potentially the crime.
They say prostitution is the oldest profession, and in today’s world OnlyFans is sex work 2.0.
I invite you to leave a comment and let’s have a conversation about sex work and fraud in the new era of technology.
Thank you for reading.Technology Behind Sex Work

2024.05.16 16:39 mattoracz What Insane Guarantee Would You Need from a Dev Team to Build Your SaaS with Them?

Hello everyone,
As a founder of a SaaS, what kind of guarantee would you need from an external team of developers to choose them over hiring an in-house team or freelancers?
I’m thinking about an extraordinary guarantee that goes beyond typical hourly-rate services. It often feels like the perception of software development is one of unpredictability in terms of time and process. My approach has been to liken development to assembling an app from pre-made blocks to drastically cut costs and production time. What do you think?
Up until now, we've implemented service plans where, for instance, a founder can hire two full-time people for a month, with access to an entire team (developers, tech lead, designer, QA, PM, devops) and switch out staff as needed.
This seems like a solid option for building a complete product, but it still feels insufficient. There needs to be greater value—perhaps even a bold guarantee. What’s crucial and most important to you?
From my perspective, the less convincing factors for founders typically include:
I'm considering a 'success fee' approach, but this would require us to work more strategically with a founder from start to finish. It’s not just software development anymore; it’s a product creation service. That could really be something. What do you think?
I hope I’m not lynched here for a post that leans more towards software agencies than SaaS itself. We're currently scaling our own EdTech SaaS but also gathering market experience in building SaaS projects as a dev team. I don’t want this to come off as an ad, so don't look us up, but please tell me what kind of guarantee you would need to say, "shut up and help me cook." :joy:
Have a great day, everyone.

2024.05.16 16:13 OnderGok Does G8 OLED work well with Nintendo Switch?

What is this sub's experience with connecting the Switch to the G8? I've read on here that some get awful quality because of the monitor trying to scale the image or that it doesn't work if the cable isn't 2.1.
I already have the monitor (that I mainly use with my PC) but I wanna make sure that it works fine before I invest in a decent dock / micro HDMI cable
