I'm trying to lose 30 lbs for my brother's wedding over the holiday. My family is being really pushy / supportive, so I want to finally get my weight under control. Weight loss is new to me, I gained most of my fat during covid and then built up habits that just kept it coming.
There's a lot of great information on this sub and online. For me though it's almost too much and analysis paralysis. I just don't know where to start.
There are so many diets like keto, fasting, and vegan. Plus there are a ton of different content creators and apps. It's my first time really losing weight and I feel like I've arrived hours late to the weight loss meeting. Have the stuff is about optimizing diets I've never even heard of before. Can anyone help?

Let’s be genuine here it is the best out of every EA UFC game, by that I mean UFC-UFC 5, because of a few simple things. UFC 1-3 look and feel a little clunky (imo) they don’t run as good and the striking looks bad in the first two. UFC 3 does a lot right but it’s not what it ultimately could be, when I played I always felt staggered by it. As well training in the career mode was lacking heavily. UFC 5 does so much right, adding proper TKOs, slick grappling mechanics, more realistic character AI than proper UFC’s (excluding some randoms in career), great online career. Yet it’s a lacking game, there’s no new customization outside of new shorts and DIY hair color, but worst of all it takes out the incredibly creative and unorthodox submissions from prior installments which breaks my heart. There is a flying omoplata in UFC 4, that’s so cool. And of course there are things the ENTIRE series lacks

- Clinch grappling changed, there is no good way to transition to a lot of clinch positions, over under can only be canceled into or transitioned into from what spot
- More submissions, animations, and naming subs correctly, they call a calf slicer a heel hook in UFC5 if you hit that transition
- More positions, butterfly guard happens, K guard happens sometimes, the reap position would be huge as well

Passed about two weeks ago (AT/AT/T) and wanted to share some tips. The majority of mine have to do with testing center etiquette, because I’ve never been to a Pearson Center and would have loved to know more before going.
They asked about things like “What would you do if this critical part were late?” Or “How would you resolve this conflict?” Drawing from what I had technically memorized as the correct way to answer (otherwise known as mindset), and also reading my exam questions/eliminating answers in DM’s voice in my mind (otherwise known as mindset) helped me pass. Every morning I would do one of his vids. I’d pause before he said/wrote anything and try to figure it out without him explaining (he has perfect PMI mindset, if you emulate how he thinks and approaches the questions then you’ll pass).
Don’t stress about Expert questions! If I could go back I would memorize every single Moderate/Difficult scenario: The right answers, the wrong ones and the why’s and forget the Experts. Maybe it was just me but it felt like the exam barely went harder than Difficult level - Please note, this does not mean it was easy - I just never felt the strain of Expert.
Testing Center Tips: - Just leave your phone in the fucking car. Trust me. Just do it.

- What did NOT help me pass: PDU courses were borderline useless and so was the book. I did a Udemy course through Sorin (last name escapes me). His material was so dry and awful I didn’t realize what he was going on about were the different Proceses until I tried AR’s course. His didn’t help me understand the material, either. I just wanted to give it a shot because this sub recommended him. For studying, I tried to memorize the book for months (ouch) before I found this sub.
- What DID help me pass: 100% Study Hall and David Mclaughlin’s vids. SH I kept retaking exams and quizzes. I was getting very discouraged thinking “Yeah, so my percentage is going up but isn’t that just because I’m memorizing the right/wrong answers??” After watching DM for a while, I would read the SH questions in my mind in his voice (lol) and talk through the answers like he did.

- Take your bracelets off at home, I watched someone have to cut hers off because you can’t wear them. If you have anything sentimental that’s hard to remove quickly then take it off while you have time.
- You do NOT have 10 min breaks. At most like 4 of those mins are yours. You will have a check in/out process every.single.time. you enter the testing room. For exiting, there’s a checkout process that someone has to manually do. Both the full security check in and check out eats at your time (especially if there are multiple people checking out or if they’re training someone). Depending on where the bathrooms are this means you have enough time to: Check out, walk briskly to the bathroom, cry a wee bit (lol), and march right back before being frisked again by security. By the time I sat down again the timer was down to mere seconds.
- Locate the bathrooms before you take your test!!! I can’t imagine having that clock ticking down, while trying to find the bathroom, while being scared witless about my exam.
- For the ladies: Wear comfy pants with pockets!!! You’ll have to carry a key for your locker and your ID always. Pockets help, especially if you’re prone to leaving things (when going to break/the bathroom) because your mind is elsewhere. Comfy pants (like sweats) are ideal because they’ll ask you to turn out your pockets.
- Hammering the above: You’ll always need your ID on you. It’s not a one-and-done at the door initially. For every break and check in/out that is your ticket.

 | Our store just got bought by a new owner. A lot of things she and her employee she got from one of her other stores are telling me have been very concerning in a lot of ways. One thing is no more “build your own”? Basically now no matter what someone orders we need to put extra cheese on it and make is as close to a Subway Series sub as possible even if it means screwing with inventory. For example: if you want a rotisserie sub we have to put extra cheese on it and charge it as the All-Pro Teriyaki. If someone wants a turkey sub we have to make it a Titan and if they don’t want extra cheese and meat we still have to charge it as a Titan. However, all the build your own subs are still on the website and app to order online. She also tells me the only sub I can have for break is one of the regular turkey, ham, etc after telling me they don’t exist. Hi all, I was diagnosed today with LSIL. My doctor believes that I had a prior HPV infection (it’s not clear if I still have it currently as I need to get biopsied from what I read online). She stated that I will likely be getting a procedure where I was have my cervix frozen. I’m 23, in a long term relationship. I told my boyfriend about this diagnosis today, who was pretty unsupportive (maybe in shock?). Now- while I can acknowledge this is an appropriate response (as in he does not need to support me on this journey- it is absolutely his choice), I informed him of the testing prior. I was sexually active prior, but honestly was a bit misinformed about HPV as a whole. I am a bit more informed now, and received my first vaccine for it today. I come from a religious background and my mother would not allow me to get the vaccine as a child. I just generally feel bad about the situation. Had I known I had / have HPV I would’ve disclosed. Anyways- any support/ advice/ comments are welcome. This sub has already been so helpful.

I'll be visiting her and want to replace it when I'm there but I'd like to order the new capacitor ahead of time so I'm ready to go.
The AC Model: carrier 24ana160a0032030 (manufactured 2009)
I've looked online and found one site (repairclinic . com) that has a replacement cap but I'm not confident it's the right part because the picture shows a "370V 80mfd 6%" capacitor but the part description says "440V 80mfd"
I'd just feel better if I saw a Carrier repair guide that specified the voltage and microFarads for this unit. I can't find that online and I'm hoping someone on this sub would know or point me in the right direction.

So way back when i was a kid in 2012, i was having a very great birthday (i was turning 11 years old) And when it was time to open my presents, i was a little confused because there was this random game called “Call Of Duty Black Ops II) I didn’t know what the FUCK a Call of Duty was, i didn’t know if my parents were asking me to go to WAR or something. But since i got my new Xbox 360 a while ago, i decided to play this game for a while to see how good it is, and HOOOLY SHIT, still one of the most fun games i’ve ever played in my life. Within a few weeks i quickly got addicted to this game and got my whole friend group to friend me on Xbox and just join up and play. It was the best fucking game ever, i remember the cool zombie mode, playing on Nuketown, my friends blasting new music and joking around, the lobbies getting insanely heated, all the cool trick shots we would watch on YouTube, it was the best and funniest shit ever. That game is literally the goat of shooting games, back then when we didn’t have stupid Overwatch shit. Fast forward to 2017 and i had just gotten my Xbox One. This random game on YouTube was trending and it was called Fortnite. I didn’t understand what the hell the point was and i thought i was too old for the game because it looked weirdly cartoony, but i still gave it a try because i thought i could relive memories from the Xbox 360. So i grabbed some of my friends and played the game for the first time and HOOOLLY SHITT it was amazing. I remember when the double pump first got popular, the dance moves like the floss, and trick shots were finally back on YouTube. New battle passes and skins would come out, new weapons, and new locations and glitches which would make everybody flip out. The lobbies were not as heated as Call of Duty were, but they were still funny and i remember trolling videos on Fortnite being on YouTube. And best of all? The game was FREE, no money spent to get better or anything. It was like living in 2012 again, i miss waking up everyday during Summer and hopping on with my friends on some Fortnite. I actually was good at the game too, i remember doing Boxfigjts with my friends when Creative was being released too. I even remember doing it with random people also. When i would win they would get so mad and i would record it and show it to my friends, i even made a YouTube channel out of it that got like 500 subscribers, which was pretty fucking cool.

Can you get into boxfights? What’s this games version of a victory royale? Can you hit the gwiddy once you kill some me? I guess with paint. Hi all! I'm not a teacher, but I realized that a lot of posts on aita and similar subs are really good at writing hooks. The titles are often both accurate and misleading in a way that entices the reader to click and read more. Ik you would have proof read posts to find ones that are school appropriate, but it could also possibly be used to teach about forming arguments and logical fallacies. You can have them say "am I the jerk" or something as well. Just a thought I had, as it would be interesting and relatable for students! I feel like if you can get them to realize they can use these skills to be better at arguing online, they may pay attention lol

Apologies if this is an inappropriate post (feel free to remove) but I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some names or even just point me to other forums to ask. My gf suffers from some combination of cPTSD/GAD with dissociative features stemming from serious childhood abuse. I'm not kidding about the dissociation. Stress regularly sends her into insane-o hypomanic fugues where her behavior is highly reminiscent of this or worse (3 non-serious suicide attempts since I've known her and I've 5150'd her once). It's really freaky to observe - at one point I thought she actually had Dissociative Identity Disorder. Less-severe episodes occur roughly weekly. About 5% of the time that I stay at her place I end up barricading myself in the spare bedroom because I wake up to her decompensating at 2am.
Anyway, she recently had a severe episode and I gave her a therapy ultimatum which she's accepted. In my view she needs some flavor of CBT designed to help her manage overwhelming feelings plus someone to prescribe an SSRI but IANA therapist so I'll start wherever. I don't think a GP is sufficient because she heavily self-medicates with booze and benzos so she needs someone who will work with her to ease her on to a more reasonable regimen. She's very smart (130+ IQ), very defensive, over-intellectualizes and doesn't suffer fools. She will only respond to someone very smart and no-nonsense and that person has to be willing to hold her feet to the flames and cut through her intellectualizing nonsense. Absolutely no woo (e.g. EMDR, opening shakras, psychedelics etc). She's a successful sales exec so money isn't an issue, but finding truly smart and experienced therapists is. I think table stakes for her is Ivy-educated with 20+ years experience. Anyone dumber would just be a waste of everyone's time. Half-joking, but the ideal person for her would be Hannibal Lecter. The murdering would only make her respect him more. Again, really only half joking.
We're in a smallish Central California town so it needs to be online. She'll be moving to NYC soon so if anyone knows anyone good there that would be a plus. I'd also appreciate suggestions for other places to look for advice.

I have done my own research but I want to make sure I understand everything and to get help on this as I am panicking. My gf and I had unprotected sex from 5/10/24 to 5/12/24 and I want to know based on the new laws here in Florida, when would be the soonest we could go to a clinic before it is too late if we find out she is pregnant. I have read the laws online but I am still a little confused and was wanting some clarification. Someone on a different sub-reddit said to "count the first day of a pregnant woman’s most recent period as the first day of her pregnancy", one thing that makes me nervous about this though is my gf told me even before we started getting intimate, (while it may be uncommon) only gets a period like once a year. This really scares me then, because we can't use that as a way to gauge whether she is pregnant or not because it can be way too late by then to get an abortion by the time that happens. While I have come across certain important terms in the past, I never fully looked into them until now that I am trying to figure this all out at once. So the abortion law would prevent access to care after 6 weeks correct, but that isn't 6 weeks after the day of intimacy but the day of conception correct? So this is where I want to be clear of things, i have read two different things on the definition of conception, one source said conception happens in the hours or days after unprotected sex and the other source said about 11-21 days after the first day of the last period. Which source do I lean more towards. What other signs can we rely on (i have read fatigue, tenderness in the breasts, urinating more) and what is the soonest we can start testing where we can actually get true "accurate/objective" results, by which I mean, I know if we started testing today or even tomorrow, it would probably be too soon. We might get back-to-back negative results, but they could be false negatives. So when would be the very soonest we could start checking with more accurate reliable results, a week, 10 days, etc? Again, I apologize if I may be asking 2 or 3 different things, but it's just that there were multiple questions that I need help answering with and I am just extremely nervous right now and seeking help. People often ask about the legitimacy and/or safety of a number of websites which sell large resin statues. The more commonly-asked of those deal primarily in resins from studios which do not have a license from the Japanese IP holders to produce merchandise. Therefore links to those sites are not permitted here. Another sign is if MyFigureCollection doesn't list the either the statue, its manufacturer, or the shop it's being sold on.

My Figure Collection is like MyAnimeList... but for figures! Their database includes thousands of items which been produced during the last couple of decades, along with reviews of shops and other helpful articles. One can also list their own collection and post gallery photos.

That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.

C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.

7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.

If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips were discontinued after a long run. A current version is the Vattensten, if you're inclined to buy your case and lights at the same time.
LED strips have become very commonly available in recent years; most hardware and home furnishing stores carry a selection now. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:

Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:

Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
19. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.

21. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
22. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.

Buying & Shipping
1. What’s the best place to buy my anime figures from?That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
- Unregistered SAL: Sometimes referred to as uSAL, is usually the cheapest method. It does not come with any tracking or insurance. Usually takes up 2-4 weeks for delivery.
- Registered SAL: Sometimes referred to as rSAL, is insured for the declared value up to 6,000 yen. It comes with a tracking number and usually takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.
- EMS: This method of shipping is much faster than either SAL options, usually arriving within a week of shipment. EMS shipments are insured for the declared value up to 2,000,000 yen.
- Airmail
- E-packet
- Surface: Shops don't offer this very often. It's an actual cargo ship and slow as a result.
- DHL: Becoming more available as an alternative to EMS on AmiAmi and other sites. Can be less expensive than EMS and of comparable speed, but may be more reliant on the specific geographical area being shipped to. The price is also determined by the size of the box. Offers their own tracking.
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
- Amiami: You can combine orders here, as long as the orders ship in the same month. It doesn’t matter if the item is new or preowned. Any preorders that are set for that month can also be combined with other orders for that month. However, be aware that if the preorder gets delayed, Amiami will remove that item from that month’s shipment and place it on a new order. To combine orders on Amiami, use the “Combine Orders” feature under “My Account”.
- Hobby Search: Hobby Search will let you combine orders that release in the same month, but you cannot combine in stock items with preorders. If you want to combine multiple preorders, or multiple in stock items, you can do so using the “Order Recombination” feature on your account page.
- HobbyLink Japan: At HLJ, you have the option to send paid orders to their “Private Warehouse”, where you can store them for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to ship the items, you simply select which items to ship and HLJ will combine them into one shipment for you. To use this, just select the “Private Warehouse” option as shipping when you order.
4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
- Big in Japan (Japanese store)
- Tokyo Otaku Mode
- Anime Island
- Crunchyroll
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Australia: 10% GST is now assessed up front.
- Canada: Minimum declared value for charges is around CAD$20 for regular shipments, and CAD$60 for gifts (gifting something only seems to lower the declared value by about CAD$40, not deplete it completely). When using Amiami, try their Small Air Packet option. It comes with tracking, gets there in about the same time as EMS, and is better at avoiding customs.
- European Union: As of 1st July 2021, VAT has to be paid on all goods imported from outside of the EU. Retailers are supposed charge VAT for purchases under €150, however many Japanese retailers currently do not, so VAT will be charged when your order arrives in the EU. Orders that are >€150, VAT and duty will be charged by your local customs.
- UK: As of 1st January 2021, VAT is to be charged by retailers for orders <£135. However, customs isn't currently charging VAT on parcels valued at <£135, even if the VAT hasn't been paid. Goods >£135 will have their VAT and duty calculated and charged by customs.
- Mexico: Minimum declared value for customs fees is USD$300 for shipments by post, and USD$50 for shipments by courier.
- United States: A shipment has to have a declared value of USD$2,000 before customs starts hitting you with fees, so you most likely won’t have to worry about them at all.
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.

C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.

7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.
Displaying Your Figures
12. What display cases do you recommend?If you live near an Ikea try out one of these:
- Klingsbo
- Billy (Often used with Morliden doors (now the HÖGBO and glass shelves.)
- Detolf: Formerly the go-to choice for inexpensive display cabinetry, the Detolf was first made flimsier around 2020 and then essentially phased out of the name, to become the BLÅLIDEN. Knockoff versions of widely-varying quality are commonly found on other shopping sites these days, though.
If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips were discontinued after a long run. A current version is the Vattensten, if you're inclined to buy your case and lights at the same time.
LED strips have become very commonly available in recent years; most hardware and home furnishing stores carry a selection now. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
- Plastic picture cubes
- Card Deck Boxes
- If you’re feeling adventurous, try making your own!
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:
- Keeping it sealed can actually damage your figure. PVC figures usually have something called plasticizer in them, and that plasticizer needs to be able to breath. If a PVC figure isn’t exposed to oxygen, after a period of time the plasticizer starts to break down and form a sticky substance on the surface of the figure. Simply opening your figures and taking them out of the box prevents this from happening. If you happen to find plasticizer goo on one of your figures, Kahotan has a handy guide for dealing with it.
- Unlike some other figure markets, keeping an anime figure sealed won’t raise its value by a whole lot. In fact, because of the plasticizer problem mentioned above, your figure could actually be in better condition if you open it versus keeping it sealed.
Finding the Right Figure(s) for You
16. What are "scales" and "prizes"? What is the difference between them?Those are classifications for figures based on a few factors.
- "Prizes" are generally more simply produced figures which are intended to be given as prizes for playing arcade games. They are inexpensive and lack the detail of scale figures, though some prize figure lines have standouts which may approach lower-end scales in quality. That is uncommon and often depends on the individual figure.
- "Scales" are called such because they are nominally designed to be proportional to the dimensions of the character which they are based on. They are generally of much better manufacture and materials than prize figures, allowing for more detail in painting, accessories, or complex poses.
- "Trading" figures appear in gashapon machines or as blind boxes on shop counters, often as sets which include multiple characters. As suggested by the class name, the randomness encourages trading. They are usually very inexpensively-produced, though as with prizes, some series are better than others.
- "Non-scale" encompasses a variety of other categories. It is often used to describe poseable figure lines such as figma and Nendoroids.
17. There are so many figure companies! Who makes good figures?!
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:
- Alter
- Max Factory
- Good Smile Company
- Kotobukiya (usually hit or miss for people. Use your best judgement based off of the prototype)
- Flare
- Stronger
My Figure Collection can be your best friend here. Simply do a search on the name of the series or character using the search bar located at the top right of the screen, and all associated figures pop up!
Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
19. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.

Keeping Up with New Announcements
20. How can I keep up with figure news (announcements, updates, etc.)?Most people use a MFC combined with any or all of the following news sites:
- Neko Magic
- Alter’s Blog (In Japanese)
- Kahotan’s Blog (Only GSC and their sister companies)
To use MFC for this I’ll quote question #9.

21. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
22. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.

They looked decent enough online and after all the changes they made that year, it wouldn't make sense to make another 2 man change going into Stage 5/Champs. Picking up John wasn't the move in hindsight, but he was a top F/A at the time and TJ was struggling.
Say LAT's end season CW roster was Huke, John, Kenny, SlasheR (Drazah sub). Likely place the same at Champs T8 or T6. But going into VG they release Drazah instead of resigning him since they benched him twice already (After MW19 and mid CW). This potentially means the World Championship roster never forms and Drazah joins a different team.

I’ve been sensing this weird attitude about Chad lately both in this sub and on his Snapchat replies and stuff. I know it’s a snark sub but come on guys we don’t need to be disecting this kid’s life— especially when he’s not giving any information about his mom/family. A few hours ago there was a (now deleted) post upset about him asking if anyone thinks OJ is innocent or guilty. Or a few weeks ago there were quite a few posts from people trying to figure out what he accidentally posted to his story (it was a snap intended for his girlfriend). Like….that’s so weird?? Why would we as an audience need to know what he’s sending his GF at all??
Or in his Snapchat replies it’s people telling him he’s a leach for wanting to get a motorcycle instead of a car. Now, imo the smartest move is saving for a car. But this guy is 19 years old. He wants a motorcycle. Fine, don’t keep bugging him about it guys! Him getting a motorcycle instead of a car is not going to be the end of the world. Some of those replies I saw were acting like he’ll be a terrible person for getting the motorcycle. Chad shouldn’t be replying to these people as it just fuels the fire but seriously yall. Stop acting like such an ass to him about it in Snapchat replies. Telling him he’s getting a bad reputation like his mother, god. Idk if that was a joke or not but it’s fucked up.
I know some of this is on Chad because if he doesn’t want all these trolls to bug him about these things then he shouldn’t be posting about it. It looks like he wants to be a content creator so that does open his life up to criticism from the internet. Buuuut also posting his entire life on the internet without a second thought is all he knows. He’s very likely still getting used to setting up online boundaries. We as an audience are getting used to these kids having boundaries. I just feel like we should recognize that we need to step back. We’re not owed anything and it’s weird to swipe up on Chad’s story to tell him he’s doing his life wrong lol.

Not sure this is the right sub to post in but there doesn't seem to a specific one for those comics so here goes...
I'm a french woman (28) and I grew up reading those in french in the monthly comics which were named "Picsou" (that's what Scrooge is named here, basically a pun on his greediness so literally "coin-thief").
I was particularly into those few stories where Scrooge, Donald and the gang (as well as characters from Mickey's world, it was a crossover) went to an island filled with mythical creatures such as centaurs, dragons etc... called Mythologia. For some reason I can't find the original version or even its title online ? I'm thinking maybe the title/island name is different in English, or else it means it only existed in France but I didn't think it was possible for those characters' adventures not to always be based on a US version.
If you know an answer to my little puzzle, I'd be much obliged !

My spouse received a citation for "disorderly conduct" stemming from one too many drinks on the casino floor that led him to banging on the wrong hotel room door in the early hours of the morning. Hotel security escorted him to the 'back of the house' and called an ambulance based on his intoxication/incoherence. Paramedics and police arrived and took some information and the hotel security eventually not to worry about anything that he wasn't in trouble, but that following protocol he would no longer be allowed back at the casino. Nearly a month later was we he discovered the events of that night had resulted in a disorderly conduct citation and pending court date.
Today was his online court date. While he is not an English speaker, he thought he could navigate through this with the help of the court appointed interpreter, but when the judge explained to him that although he is a permanent resident, this type of offense could impact his ability to become a citizen or even lead to deportation, we both felt we needed to seek legal counsel.
We're shocked — and terrified; what seemed like such an insignificant event is upsetting our reality, but and we need to navigate this properly. Everything I've read leads me to believe that as this is a first time offense of any kind for him, it's highly unlikely he'd receive anything more than a fine — there could be possibility it might result in life-altering consequences based on how the state of NJ appears to categorize offenses of this kind.
As we look into how to obtain and/or pay for attorney, I'm seeking advice or thoughts from everywhere I can think of based on the facts I have shared above. Obviously I am aware no one can give me any definitive answers or predict any eventual outcome, but I am hoping for some general reassurance that a citation of this sort is not generally likely to have a lifelong negative impact on his — and our lives?
