2024.05.16 18:14 TT_Moims Help šŸ˜© heat vinyl recs for van shoes

I am helping my friend make shoes for her bridesmaids to wear on wedding day. She bought the slip on vans in whiteā€¦. I thought cricut brand vinyl would be the best (opposed to off brand) because when I weed and make shirts it goes on nicely sooooā€¦ā€¦we printed and weeded everything out, go to transfer and it would not work. We ruined one of the pairs and I feel horrible!! Nothing we did helped the whole design stick it was a disaster. I then tried a random brand I had scraps from and it transfered like butter šŸ¤Æno problems at all but not sure which kind it wasā€¦so wondering if anybody did a similar project on vans or that type of shoe material and what brand vinyl worked best.
Thanks in advance!!!!!

2024.05.16 18:11 Impossible-Alarm-738 I canā€™t tell whether the guy Iā€™m dating is a good guy or not

I canā€™t tell because I have delusional disorder. Analysis paralysis and paranoia is part of it. Iā€™m on meds but my general decision making is impacted.
He says he likes me. But doesnā€™t text me on his own. He used to not respond as well. But after I told him he does. But still doesnā€™t text me. He agrees to everything I say I like but doesnā€™t know anything about it. I caught him mouthing something to me but when I asked him about it he said nothing. Our first date went bad but he still wants to see me. Caught him staring at my chest. Gave me a flower from the roadside. It was a weed.
Iā€™m just worried if he thinks Iā€™m an easy target to gaslight me or something. Donā€™t know if thereā€™s any red flags or if this is my paranoia.

4 signs itā€™s time to move up to Software Architecture:
Senior Developers, if youā€™ve been wondering whether or not itā€™s time for you to move up in your career, hereā€™s a short list of check-ins you can do with yourself. See if any of these sound familiar:
1ļøāƒ£ Lack of Strategic Input šŸ“Š: Moving into architecture gives you a seat at the table and the authority to participate in critical decisions, influencing the projectā€™s success from the ground up.
2ļøāƒ£ Stuck in the Details šŸ•µļø: If you feel bogged down by the minutiae of coding, youā€™re not alone. Moving to architecture allows you to focus on the bigger picture, shaping the entire system instead of getting lost in the weeds.
3ļøāƒ£ Outgrowing Your Role šŸš€: If you feel like youā€™ve hit a professional ceiling and are ready for more complex challenges, architecture offers the opportunity to tackle larger, more intricate problems.
4ļøāƒ£ Desire for Holistic Understanding šŸ§ : Architects get a birdā€™s eye view of how everything fits together, which helps them design scalable, maintainable systems that stand the test of time.
If any of these sound like you, this is the sign youā€™ve been looking for! Time to move onward and upward to Software Architecture āœØ
Message us to see if youā€™re a fit for one of our upcoming Software Architecture training programs.

2024.05.16 17:42 MyClericalGnomance Beginners guide to honour mode & unlocking the golden dice.

Introduction

The main purpose of this guide will be to help unlock the golden dice for those of you who feel less confident about tackling honour mode. This is designed to be a path of least resistance, so we wonā€™t be experiencing everything this game has to offer. Itā€™s also worth noting that instead of focusing on min-maxing for damage; we prioritise safe & consistent damage. We donā€™t need to be respeccing characters often, if at all, and we wonā€™t be relying on strength elixirs. My girlfriend (u/-babyjanehudson) and I put this together as weā€™ve beaten honour mode a 5 times now without any failed attempts, we were even in the first 800 people to beat it which is kinda cool! Hereā€™s how we did it. First starting with our builds, then a little general advice and finally just a list of some general Doā€™s & Donā€™ts. Apologies for the wall of text.

Builds:

Bardlock (party face) - Great old one Warlock 2, college of lore bard 10 - Cha16>Dex16>Con14>Wis12

Life cleric 12 - Wis16>Con16>Dex14>Str
(light cleric does more damage so is technically better for experienced players but a life cleric is there to save your run in case of an emergency, something pretty invaluable to beginners in HM as we canā€™t assume we are winning every fight in the first 2 turns like we ideally aim to)

Swords Bard Archer (Lockpicker) - 6 Swords Bard, 4 Rogue Thief, 2 Fighter - Dex17>Cha14>Con14>Wis12>Str
Skill priority for this character is Sleight of hand > Stealth > Perception > Persuasion > Intimidation > Deception > Acrobatics

Barbarian - Wild heart Bear Barb 8, Battle Master Fighter 4 - Str16>Con16>Dex14>Wis12

Final note for builds:
As youā€™ve probably noticed, yes almost everybody in the party takes a dip in fighter for access to action surge & shield proficiency. I learned this habit from Colby like everything else I know. Heā€™s the Bob Ross of DnD builds and well worth your time.

General Advice

The most important factor in honour mode is ā€œmeta knowledgeā€, This means things like: knowing how to enter each combat effectively, making sure everyone is in a good position before starting, knowing exactly which enemies/spells youā€™ll face during that fight and ensuring you always take the enemy by surprise to gain a free turn. Being properly prepared is better than any build. As for difficulty, Act 1 is always going to be your biggest challenge so use plenty of rests and pick your fights carefully. For this guide I also recommend using your bard to persuade the act 2 bosses into committing suicide.

Doā€™s:

Donā€™ts:

2024.05.16 17:26 ThebestBlanket A comparison of the web and app chat rooms

A comparison of the web and app chat rooms
It's a bit messy, but this is what I've noticed in the term of differences between the apps chat room, and the websites chat room. In the app: things are quite round, giving off a more friendly and softer look to the whole interface. There is less buttons in your face, I also like how the chat bubbles act as their own buttons for edits, copying, and deleting. The chat bubbles take up a lot of space, but it makes up for that with bigger text, even when you have it set to small. Though, with the bigger chat bubbles, there is less space for a user to press when done with typing out a response. This leads to accidental presses on your own chat bubble when waiting for the Bot to reply (at least for me). When the app was still fairly new, this caused a few issues with the generation of the Bots response. Everything is pretty clearly labeled, buttons look like buttons, again, the only "hidden" buttons are the actual chat bubble, and the Bots profile picture. The whole interface is not cluttered or too in your face with the Galaxy theme, and honestly, I forget I have it on sometimes. The words pop enough to read in a bright room, and dull enough to not strain your eyes too much when reading at night. I love the fact that the chat bubbles follow the theme you the user set for it.
For the website: The chat box where the user types in, is very sharp and goes all the way to the edge of the screen. The sharpness of the chat box sort of clashes with the continuation of rounded chat bubbles. Speaking of the chat bubbles, I noticed that the user has more space to press when done typing. Making the chat bubbles more compact, the interface almost feels as if it's farther away, giving the illusion of smaller letters. Along with the chat, we also get an extra button on the right side of the chat, a square box ment for bringing up the 4 options: edit, copy, delete, and cancel. This is very useful for computer users, though can be seen as clutter on the mobile website due to the smaller screen. Again, accidentally presses are sure to happen, and while it might not bug out the website, it can become quite taxing to get the same pop up every time you press it on accident. Buttons still look and act like buttons, this time the only hidden button being the Bots profile. On the app, once you respond to it the first time, the little stripe of text is gone, on the website, the text on the top stays in full veiw. Making the interface feel more cluttered. With that in mind, it makes a bit more sense on why the Bots don't have a check mark when chatting. The italics on the website are a Grey, not following the galaxy theme at all. And on the topic, I've noticed the theme is a bit duller, and the design of stars, planets, ships, and galaxies, are smaller.
Overall: Each version of Dopple.AI has faults and perks, personally I like the haptic feedback the app provides. Others don't like it, and that's fine. The important thing is that we all understand that the Development team are not the robots that we talk to on the web and app. They are humans and shouldn't be rushed, talked down to, or overloaded with complaints that have been reported 100Ɨ within 2 minutes. People need breaks and positive criticism.
(This took so long to write, have a fantastic day and an even better week >Ɨ<)

2024.05.16 17:23 TruNorth556 At one time our leaders in the west took the threat of nuclear conflict seriously. Now we have Biden tossing around regime change and European allies escalating recklessly.

As a side note, it takes you back to a bygone era. When American leaders were larger than life figures. Powerful men, who for whatever their faults were, cared about the country and its future. Today we have feckless dotards with soy hipster handlers.
Professor Woodrow Wilson once said that every man sent out from a university should be a man of his nation as well as a man of his time, and I am confident that the men and women who carry the honor of graduating from this institution will continue to give from their lives, from their talents, a high measure of public service and public support.
"There are few earthly things more beautiful than a university," wrote John Masefield in his tribute to English universities--and his words are equally true today. He did not refer to spires and towers, to campus greens and ivied walls. He admired the splendid beauty of the university, he said, because it was "a place where those who hate ignorance may strive to know, where those who perceive truth may strive to make others see."
I have, therefore, chosen this time and this place to discuss a topic on which ignorance too often abounds and the truth is too rarely perceived--yet it is the most important topic on earth: world peace.
What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children--not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women--not merely peace in our time but peace for all time.
I speak of peace because of the new face of war. Total war makes no sense in an age when great powers can maintain large and relatively invulnerable nuclear forces and refuse to surrender without resort to those forces. It makes no sense in an age when a single nuclear weapon contains almost ten times the explosive force delivered by all the allied air forces in the Second World War. It makes no sense in an age when the deadly poisons produced by a nuclear exchange would be carried by wind and water and soil and seed to the far corners of the globe and to generations yet unborn.
Today the expenditure of billions of dollars every year on weapons acquired for the purpose of making sure we never need to use them is essential to keeping the peace. But surely the acquisition of such idle stockpiles--which can only destroy and never create--is not the only, much less the most efficient, means of assuring peace.
I speak of peace, therefore, as the necessary rational end of rational men. I realize that the pursuit of peace is not as dramatic as the pursuit of war--and frequently the words of the pursuer fall on deaf ears. But we have no more urgent task.
Some say that it is useless to speak of world peace or world law or world disarmament--and that it will be useless until the leaders of the Soviet Union adopt a more enlightened attitude. I hope they do. I believe we can help them do it. But I also believe that we must reexamine our own attitude--as individuals and as a Nation--for our attitude is as essential as theirs. And every graduate of this school, every thoughtful citizen who despairs of war and wishes to bring peace, should begin by looking inward--by examining his own attitude toward the possibilities of peace, toward the Soviet Union, toward the course of the cold war and toward freedom and peace here at home.
First: Let us examine our attitude toward peace itself. Too many of us think it is impossible. Too many think it unreal. But that is a dangerous, defeatist belief. It leads to the conclusion that war is inevitable--that mankind is doomed--that we are gripped by forces we cannot control.
We need not accept that view. Our problems are manmade--therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man's reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable--and we believe they can do it again.
I am not referring to the absolute, infinite concept of peace and good will of which some fantasies and fanatics dream. I do not deny the value of hopes and dreams but we merely invite discouragement and incredulity by making that our only and immediate goal.
Let us focus instead on a more practical, more attainable peace-- based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions--on a series of concrete actions and effective agreements which are in the interest of all concerned. There is no single, simple key to this peace--no grand or magic formula to be adopted by one or two powers. Genuine peace must be the product of many nations, the sum of many acts. It must be dynamic, not static, changing to meet the challenge of each new generation. For peace is a process--a way of solving problems.
With such a peace, there will still be quarrels and conflicting interests, as there are within families and nations. World peace, like community peace, does not require that each man love his neighbor--it requires only that they live together in mutual tolerance, submitting their disputes to a just and peaceful settlement. And history teaches us that enmities between nations, as between individuals, do not last forever. However fixed our likes and dislikes may seem, the tide of time and events will often bring surprising changes in the relations between nations and neighbors.
So let us persevere. Peace need not be impracticable, and war need not be inevitable. By defining our goal more clearly, by making it seem more manageable and less remote, we can help all peoples to see it, to draw hope from it, and to move irresistibly toward it.
Second: Let us reexamine our attitude toward the Soviet Union. It is discouraging to think that their leaders may actually believe what their propagandists write. It is discouraging to read a recent authoritative Soviet text on Military Strategy and find, on page after page, wholly baseless and incredible claims--such as the allegation that "American imperialist circles are preparing to unleash different types of wars . . . that there is a very real threat of a preventive war being unleashed by American imperialists against the Soviet Union . . . [and that] the political aims of the American imperialists are to enslave economically and politically the European and other capitalist countries . . . [and] to achieve world domination . . . by means of aggressive wars."
Truly, as it was written long ago: "The wicked flee when no man pursueth." Yet it is sad to read these Soviet statements--to realize the extent of the gulf between us. But it is also a warning--a warning to the American people not to fall into the same trap as the Soviets, not to see only a distorted and desperate view of the other side, not to see conflict as inevitable, accommodation as impossible, and communication as nothing more than an exchange of threats.
No government or social system is so evil that its people must be considered as lacking in virtue. As Americans, we find communism profoundly repugnant as a negation of personal freedom and dignity. But we can still hail the Russian people for their many achievements--in science and space, in economic and industrial growth, in culture and in acts of courage.
Among the many traits the peoples of our two countries have in common, none is stronger than our mutual abhorrence of war. Almost unique among the major world powers, we have never been at war with each other. And no nation in the history of battle ever suffered more than the Soviet Union suffered in the course of the Second World War. At least 20 million lost their lives. Countless millions of homes and farms were burned or sacked. A third of the nation's territory, including nearly two thirds of its industrial base, was turned into a wasteland--a loss equivalent to the devastation of this country east of Chicago.
Today, should total war ever break out again--no matter how--our two countries would become the primary targets. It is an ironic but accurate fact that the two strongest powers are the two in the most danger of devastation. All we have built, all we have worked for, would be destroyed in the first 24 hours. And even in the cold war, which brings burdens and dangers to so many nations, including this Nation's closest allies--our two countries bear the heaviest burdens. For we are both devoting massive sums of money to weapons that could be better devoted to combating ignorance, poverty, and disease. We are both caught up in a vicious and dangerous cycle in which suspicion on one side breeds suspicion on the other, and new weapons beget counterweapons.
In short, both the United States and its allies, and the Soviet Union and its allies, have a mutually deep interest in a just and genuine peace and in halting the arms race. Agreements to this end are in the interests of the Soviet Union as well as ours--and even the most hostile nations can be relied upon to accept and keep those treaty obligations, and only those treaty obligations, which are in their own interest.
So, let us not be blind to our differences--but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal.
Third: Let us reexamine our attitude toward the cold war, remembering that we are not engaged in a debate, seeking to pile up debating points. We are not here distributing blame or pointing the finger of judgment. We must deal with the world as it is, and not as it might have been had the history of the last 18 years been different.
We must, therefore, persevere in the search for peace in the hope that constructive changes within the Communist bloc might bring within reach solutions which now seem beyond us. We must conduct our affairs in such a way that it becomes in the Communists' interest to agree on a genuine peace. Above all, while defending our own vital interests, nuclear powers must avert those confrontations which bring an adversary to a choice of either a humiliating retreat or a nuclear war. To adopt that kind of course in the nuclear age would be evidence only of the bankruptcy of our policy--or of a collective death-wish for the world.
To secure these ends, America's weapons are nonprovocative, carefully controlled, designed to deter, and capable of selective use. Our military forces are committed to peace and disciplined in self- restraint. Our diplomats are instructed to avoid unnecessary irritants and purely rhetorical hostility.
For we can seek a relaxation of tension without relaxing our guard. And, for our part, we do not need to use threats to prove that we are resolute. We do not need to jam foreign broadcasts out of fear our faith will be eroded. We are unwilling to impose our system on any unwilling people--but we are willing and able to engage in peaceful competition with any people on earth.
Meanwhile, we seek to strengthen the United Nations, to help solve its financial problems, to make it a more effective instrument for peace, to develop it into a genuine world security system--a system capable of resolving disputes on the basis of law, of insuring the security of the large and the small, and of creating conditions under which arms can finally be abolished.
At the same time we seek to keep peace inside the non-Communist world, where many nations, all of them our friends, are divided over issues which weaken Western unity, which invite Communist intervention or which threaten to erupt into war. Our efforts in West New Guinea, in the Congo, in the Middle East, and in the Indian subcontinent, have been persistent and patient despite criticism from both sides. We have also tried to set an example for others--by seeking to adjust small but significant differences with our own closest neighbors in Mexico and in Canada.
Speaking of other nations, I wish to make one point clear. We are bound to many nations by alliances. Those alliances exist because our concern and theirs substantially overlap. Our commitment to defend Western Europe and West Berlin, for example, stands undiminished because of the identity of our vital interests. The United States will make no deal with the Soviet Union at the expense of other nations and other peoples, not merely because they are our partners, but also because their interests and ours converge.
Our interests converge, however, not only in defending the frontiers of freedom, but in pursuing the paths of peace. It is our hope-- and the purpose of allied policies--to convince the Soviet Union that she, too, should let each nation choose its own future, so long as that choice does not interfere with the choices of others. The Communist drive to impose their political and economic system on others is the primary cause of world tension today. For there can be no doubt that, if all nations could refrain from interfering in the self-determination of others, the peace would be much more assured.
This will require a new effort to achieve world law--a new context for world discussions. It will require increased understanding between the Soviets and ourselves. And increased understanding will require increased contact and communication. One step in this direction is the proposed arrangement for a direct line between Moscow and Washington, to avoid on each side the dangerous delays, misunderstandings, and misreadings of the other's actions which might occur at a time of crisis.
We have also been talking in Geneva about the other first-step measures of arms control designed to limit the intensity of the arms race and to reduce the risks of accidental war. Our primary long range interest in Geneva, however, is general and complete disarmament-- designed to take place by stages, permitting parallel political developments to build the new institutions of peace which would take the place of arms. The pursuit of disarmament has been an effort of this Government since the 1920's. It has been urgently sought by the past three administrations. And however dim the prospects may be today, we intend to continue this effort--to continue it in order that all countries, including our own, can better grasp what the problems and possibilities of disarmament are.
The one major area of these negotiations where the end is in sight, yet where a fresh start is badly needed, is in a treaty to outlaw nuclear tests. The conclusion of such a treaty, so near and yet so far, would check the spiraling arms race in one of its most dangerous areas. It would place the nuclear powers in a position to deal more effectively with one of the greatest hazards which man faces in 1963, the further spread of nuclear arms. It would increase our security--it would decrease the prospects of war. Surely this goal is sufficiently important to require our steady pursuit, yielding neither to the temptation to give up the whole effort nor the temptation to give up our insistence on vital and responsible safeguards.
I am taking this opportunity, therefore, to announce two important decisions in this regard.
First: Chairman Khrushchev, Prime Minister Macmillan, and I have agreed that high-level discussions will shortly begin in Moscow looking toward early agreement on a comprehensive test ban treaty. Our hopes must be tempered with the caution of history--but with our hopes go the hopes of all mankind.
Second: To make clear our good faith and solemn convictions on the matter, I now declare that the United States does not propose to conduct nuclear tests in the atmosphere so long as other states do not do so. We will not be the first to resume. Such a declaration is no substitute for a formal binding treaty, but I hope it will help us achieve one. Nor would such a treaty be a substitute for disarmament, but I hope it will help us achieve it.
Finally, my fellow Americans, let us examine our attitude toward peace and freedom here at home. The quality and spirit of our own society must justify and support our efforts abroad. We must show it in the dedication of our own lives--as many of you who are graduating today will have a unique opportunity to do, by serving without pay in the Peace Corps abroad or in the proposed National Service Corps here at home.
But wherever we are, we must all, in our daily lives, live up to the age-old faith that peace and freedom walk together. In too many of our cities today, the peace is not secure because the freedom is incomplete.
It is the responsibility of the executive branch at all levels of government--local, State, and National--to provide and protect that freedom for all of our citizens by all means within their authority. It is the responsibility of the legislative branch at all levels, wherever that authority is not now adequate, to make it adequate. And it is the responsibility of all citizens in all sections of this country to respect the rights of all others and to respect the law of the land.
All this is not unrelated to world peace. "When a man's ways please the Lord," the Scriptures tell us, "he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." And is not peace, in the last analysis, basically a matter of human rights--the right to live out our lives without fear of devastation--the right to breathe air as nature provided it--the right of future generations to a healthy existence?
While we proceed to safeguard our national interests, let us also safeguard human interests. And the elimination of war and arms is clearly in the interest of both. No treaty, however much it may be to the advantage of all, however tightly it may be worded, can provide absolute security against the risks of deception and evasion. But it can--if it is sufficiently effective in its enforcement and if it is sufficiently in the interests of its signers--offer far more security and far fewer risks than an unabated, uncontrolled, unpredictable arms race.
The United States, as the world knows, will never start a war. We do not want a war. We do not now expect a war. This generation of Americans has already had enough--more than enough--of war and hate and oppression. We shall be prepared if others wish it. We shall be alert to try to stop it. But we shall also do our part to build a world of peace where the weak are safe and the strong are just. We are not helpless before that task or hopeless of its success. Confident and unafraid, we labor on--not toward a strategy of annihilation but toward a strategy of peace.

2024.05.16 17:00 Dependent_Cake_9512 The conundrum that is the NG+ Pawn

I have been thinking about this as of late and have not seen another post about it and am curious what the community thinks.
In the true ending we see how our pawn has gained a lesser will of their own. So when one starts a NG+ your pawn welcomes you back, seemingly remembering that the last world changed its course. And yet not only does the affinity reset, but so seems to be the will they gained.
What are the implications?
Is this truly the same pawn we finished the first run with and if they are, would it not convey that they too are stuck in a never ending cycle of gaining a will just to lose it all over again even though the lore meantions them not being bound to the happenings of one world alone. Not to mention how weird it is that a pawn with high affinity seems to have lost all of those rather strong emotions. Because for a pawn to decide by themselves to sit next to their arisen on an oxcart, instead of defending it like the rest, does feel like the start of a will manifesting no matter how unremarkable it might be. Was this an active design choice which is supposed to tell the player something, or a part simply overlooked for a lack of time in development or other reasons.
But what about the effect it would have on the gameplay
Of course this is the simple answer. For gamepla reasons. Why should they still follow your command afterwards? Would it not feel even more out of place than just erasing the will? But the longer I thought about it, the less it feels like the correct answer. Yes our Pawn gained a will, but in their own words it is a lesser one. A fledglings will. It would have been possible to show your pawn having evolved with small things. Some new sentences or them just roaming your dwelling instead of standing right next to you all the time. Just the way they already do it in a tavern. A will still easily overwritten by that of the arisen, be it by choice or nature.
And lastly, as mentioned before, the affinity resetting feels even more weird to me. Because at that point I have to wonder how much this is actually MY pawn.
Thoughts?
Some theories? Has this topic been brought up before and I have just missed it? Feelings?
TDLR:
Pawn loses their will and affinity. What could be the reason
PS: Added a random screenshot, because it makes the post feel less bland with just text and nothing else.

2024.05.16 16:57 proofofmyexistence Well, they got me. Iā€™m not even mad.

Played classic right up until TBC. Ive been playing and enjoying SoD since itā€™s release, but Iā€™m at the point where Iā€™ve done everything I want to do on all the classes Iā€™d want to do it on. That, plus the weekly lockout, had my eyes wandering a bit. Then I saw news about the free server transfers for the Cata prepatch.
So I flirted with it at first, all I did was download it and make the xfer. Then I noticed I was touching its arm when we were talking; I went to a major city and appreciated the newer graphics. I found myself twirling my hair when looking at the new talent design. I logged back in the next day to try just one quest out. Whereā€™s the harm in that? Before long we start eating lunch together regularly, I randomly get invited to a guild, and was blown away by how many people were on at the same time. Now, at this point weā€™re sending each other sexually charged text messages when weā€™re alone; in my downtime I find myself looking up class changes, the new raids, new tier sets. Then one night, after working overtime late together, I made a move on the dungeon group finder. And it was incredible. Back-to back-to back new dungeons, under a minute que times, tons of xp, new levels and talent points to spend. Iā€™m hooked.
If this was Blizzards plan all along, bring classic players back with SoD, and groom them for other expansions, then I have to admit, for the time being, it has worked. And Iā€™m not even mad about it.

2024.05.16 16:53 Candid-Ad6046 I (18f) was in the best relationship of my life with my ex (20M) and now I'm scared I'll never find love again. How do I make this feeling go away?

Okay so to preface, I know I am young and I still have my whole life ahead of me, but this truly feels like something I don't know how to come back from. The beginning is a vent but the last paragraph is the actual question.
TL;DR I was in a completely healthy happy relationship that now after it ended, I don't know how to move on or love again. i feel completely stuck on him and would do anything to get him back.
I (18F) met my ex-boyfriend Nick (20M) after I graduated high school through a mutual friend. He was on a road trip at the time to visit his family back home, he lived across the country from his family for work, I had gotten his Snapchat through one of my close girlfriends who was dating one of his friends. One of the first things I was told was he had never been in a relationship, and never kissed a girl. I thought this was INSANE because if you saw this man (tall, muscular, dark hair and iconic jawline) you wouldn't believe for a second that he doesn't have girls fawning all over him.
Ironically, I had gotten his snap right as he left for this week-long road trip, so the first week we communicated was solely through pictures. I thought he was dry at first, but he was really (and I mean really) cute. I ended up getting the courage to call him so we could properly chat. He was super funny, sweet, and nerdy. I remember I couldn't wait for our first date. Fast forward a month and Nick and I are dating, things are going better than ever. I truly have never felt more loved, supported, and protected than when I was with him. He bought me flowers "just because", and would keep his fridge stocked with my favorite drinks. He taught me how to play chess and video games, would always have a hand on the small of my back, and for the entire length of our relationship, I never so much as touched a door handle.
I have a history of problems with mental health, specifically eating disorders and depression. Even though I was his first relationship, he handled it in stride. I occasionally had panic attacks, and somehow he just knew innately how to deal with them. One thing I had never experienced before was someone lightly blowing on me while having a panic attack, which I have since learned is one of the only things that can calm me down. I had asked him once how he knew what to do and he just said it just "felt right" . That was how things worked with him. He saw a problem and solved it. I barely ever had to ask him to do anything more than once if at all. My family loved him, and he helped my dad out around the house, joked around with my sister, and had a great relationship with my mom. We were the couple my single friends wanted to be like. I had been through so many awful relationships and situationships that I truly thought this was the universe apologizing.
The issue, however, comes down to how we grew up. Nick grew up in a very religious and right-wing state, whereas I grew up more west coast in a relatively liberal area. Before I met Nick, when I started recovery from my ED, I discovered marijuana. Weed was something that genuinely helped me eat, deal with my anxiety, and helped me sleep. I can admit during my senior year of high school I took it a bit far, and definitely smoked more than my fair share. He knew about this early into the relationship, and he never really liked it, but he knew it was part of my life. Being someone who grew up religious, Nick was adamantly anti-weed, and I knew this so while we both knew about my usage, it was kind of an unspoken issue. I never smoked around him, avoided calling or messaging him when I was high to avoid him being uncomfortable, and I did my best to not talk to my friends about weed when around him either.
Fast forward a few more months, and we had plans to go to the zoo after I had gone on a hike with my friends. He picked me up and drove me to a parking lot off the highway and explained that he wanted to talk. I have pretty bad abandonment issues so I immediately went into fight or flight mode and asked if he was breaking up with me. With tears in his eyes, and not looking at me, Nick mumbled yes. Cue the instant and debilitating panic attack from me (arguably the worst one I've ever had). He somehow managed to calm me down enough to talk, and he explained that the weed was a huge issue for him even though he said he was fine with it in the past. I was shocked and blindsided because as far as I knew, we were just going to the zoo. I tried to explain how it helps me and I could quit if he wanted me to, and he said that was not what he wanted. he just couldn't think of me the same way knowing I smoke. While we were talking, I had texted my mom to come get me. We were trying to work things out, at this point we are both crying, he said he loves me and wanted to be with me, but he doesn't think he could get over this. My mom gets to the parking lot, I sort of stumbled to the car, basically holding myself together by a thread. As soon as I closed the door I screamed. A blood curdling scream that held so much anguish and pain that my mom started crying. I truly felt like I had lost a limb.
Those three days without contact were brutal, and on the fourth day, I caved and called him. We met up that day (I called him at 5am and we met up around 6am) and we both apologized. He said he felt like he made a huge mistake, and that he hadn't been able to stop thinking about me. I promised I would stop smoking weed, and we both swore to each other that there would be no more secrets or issues between us, that we would talk about how we feel as soon as we feel like something is wrong.
For a while this worked, the no-smoking wasn't too bad, even though it was still a point of contention between us. But then I started to remember why I smoked in the first place. I became more depressed, food stopped looking good, and I was withdrawing into myself. He noticed this and we talk about it, but ultimately there was nothing we could do, because I knew I would lose him if I went back to smoking.
Things were good for a while, we talked about everything, and every issue got resolved within the week if not the day. I had my person back, and life felt good again. Everything was going smoothly up unitl a few weeks before our 6 months (I know this was a lot to happen in 6 months). I started to feel Nick going distant, not cold or anything, and he said nothing was wrong, but I could tell something was nagging at him. One Monday, he called me and said he wanted to talk. This immediantly raised red flags because last time he said that we broke up. we facetimed and he confessed he was feeling like he wasn't being true to himself in the relationship. He felt like he wasn't going to the gym as often as he wants, and he doesn't have any time to himself. This one conversation ended in him driving to my house, a hours-long confession of everything he had been bottling up, and when he left that evening, I was single again.
My actual question paragraph is below:
I hope now everyone has context for why this relationship was so influencial in my life, and now getting to the part i need advice on. It has currently been about a month and a half since we broke up, and though I was half-hearted trying on dating apps, and I am somewhat talking to a guy right now, I can't stop thinking about Nick. I know if it didn't work out not once but twice, its probably going to happen, but I haven't had such a deep connection so fast before, and I don't want to give up on us just yet. its not that I don't want a relationship right now, but if its not with Nick I don't know if I want one ever, he taught me to never accept less than I deserve, and that I am worth loving and being treated like a princess. I have never felt more appreciated, safe, or cherished than when I was with Nick. Is it worth moving on? Or am I leaving my soulmate? Is it possible to feel love like this again? Is it worth messaging him or will I just get my heart broken instead?
Sorry for the long post, I guess I needed to get stuff off my chest. Any advice or similar experiences are welcomed, thank you!!

Thursdayā€¦.Trash dayā€¦.the cans are out and ready!
The sky is grey and the morning sun is working hard to get through the Marine Layer. She will get through but it will take some more time.
Things are all good here. We are hoping that Mr. Spots passes the kidney stones and doesn't have to have an operation to remove them. The tube is off because there is no news which is of value to any of us. Click is a most welcome sound,
I continue to work on the wiring for the layer below Como's Engine facility. Some of the track power and LEDs will have to go through two switch sets of contacts to operate properly. This is different than anywhere else on the RR. The four routes that need this wiring are (1) the long loop, (2) the crossing loop, (3) the loop to NYC and back and (4) the loop to the South. All the rest has to happen without affecting any of the other routes.
It is complicated and will require a different way of wiring switches for both track power and LEDs. Two switches will have to agree to turn on Green and they have all be red when the bypass track has or the dinner's two tracks have been selected. Looks great but is a real devil to wire.
I know you are following all that. I can tell because I don't hear lots of clicks. It is a wonderful track layout but a devil to wire properly, But I will figure it out ... just takes a lot of time ,,, trial and errors. Relays with lots of contacts are needed.
So the day has started. The coffee is warm. I got up very early due to the need for thinking through how to wire the RRs middle layer below Como's Engine Facility. I will figure it out some time in the near future. Oh well, better than landscaping.
The weeds are looking like they are going to die, Just what was needed, A few will live on but I will get them later. That is after new grass seed has gone into the dirt and is starting to grow.
I do need to rebuild the latch for the fence gate by the garage. Like the RR looked simple but really was going to be a lot of work. And it isn't done yet. Ugh. I think we are the last people on the street to do landscaping ourselves. The only other families still doing their own landscaping are the family across the street in Rita's previous house. Oh well, that keeps expense low so the RR can have those funds.
The marine layer is breaking up as Miss SunShine is getting through one spot at a time. I will draw up the two switch control diagrams and see if that solves things. I don't know if that will or it won;t get all of it working as needed.
Take care ... The tube is off and that is good because the news isn't positive most of the time. The US government isn't getting things done for the people like it should ...
The sky is interesting, Dark and light with a low sun lighting things in a different way. It will be a fine day for all of us because we will do what is best and that makes our day great.
Bow wows all the way around with Meows following the barking. The Bluebirds chirp their happy tunes and the trash cans are on the street waiting to be picked up.
All is well ... so back to the track plan for the RR. It isn't complete but little by little is getting figured out, I never thought that this part would be so difficult to design, A challenge but it too will get figured out and then wired,
Over and out ,,, the KR is done for this Thursday. Click.
See, there is an end to this blab blab

2024.05.16 16:42 Psychological-Body91 Finished Kamen Rider Ex-Aid!

Well I finished Kamen Rider Ex-Aid! Tho I'm not leaving the CR just yet, I'm gonna watch the True Ending movie tonight. I did finish the main show and I wanna talk about it before picking a new one.
Good god this was chef's kiss I can't even explain how much I loved Ex-Aid. I initially expected to hate it. I thought the concept was dumb and just wouldn't work. Then I did what I always do when getting into a new KR series: I leaned back and allowed the show to win me over on its own terms without me having some preconceived notions. I'm glad I did. Suddenly everything just clicked for me. The little splash texts, the game sounds, the power ups on the battle fields all these little details, so charming and fun! Even the ridiculous level one suit designs. Hell I started missing them when things started getting dark.
Then episode 12 hit and I realised just how special this show was.
The way this series dealt with topics of dying and illness was so mature and down to earth. I at times forgot this was a KR show and not a medical drama. The cast here as well was just fantastic. Every character got fleshed out and developed wonderfully by the end.
I was never able to guess where this show was gonna take the plot or concept and I was constantly at the edge of my seat. Also the soundtrack? Fucking amazing. I think it's one of my favourite soundtracks.
All in all it was a fantastic experience and I'm glad I gave it the chance it deserved and didn't drop it like I wanted to initially.
But now I must choose a new one! By pulling a name out of a hat! Let's see which one we'll get aye? Let's hope for something more cheerful though because Ex-Aid has left me sobbing multiple times haha
Damn looks like we're going waaaaay back!

i'm really new in web design and would love ideas and support on how to design this streetwear site.
i've been doing web design as a hobby for not too long now and it's all because of a streetwear brand i've been thinking of doing for over a year. none of it is coded and all of this is done in photoshop so far. please let me know what i should do. my current main focus is use of fonts and user comfortableness, i am currently happy with the font i am using for my text.
potential problems i'm aware of: assymetrical logo (i've been told that sometimes that can be a good thing) empty page (although it isn't near complete) loss of ideas on what clothing i SHOULD be selling, Summer is coming up very soon and i know shorts are a good pick.
i would really appreciate specific ideas on what to do. i've been taking inspiration from MANY sites and i haven't been fully happy with the designs i've been making.
p.s the los santos background is a placeholder and i'd like to replace that with a photo of someone wearing the clothing.
main page as soon as you enter the site.
will probably end up being the page once you click home on the main page

To: [rule-comments@sec.gov](mailto:rule-comments@sec.gov)
Subject: Comments on SR-OCC-2024-001 34-100009
Dear Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission,
I am writing to express my concerns regarding Rule SR-OCC-2024-001, which proposes adjustments to margin thresholds, specifically during periods of high volatility.
This proposed adjustment is concerning because it essentially shifts the goalposts when clearing members are unable to meet their financial obligations. The necessity for margin calls in the first place is to prevent clearing members from overextending themselves on their bets, ensuring that they have adequate collateral to cover potential losses.
By adjusting margin thresholds during periods of high volatility, there is a risk that clearing members may not be required to maintain sufficient collateral, increasing the likelihood of default and destabilising the financial system.
This proposed adjustment raises critical questions about the integrity of the options market and the role of the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) in managing risk.
The basis of this letter is equally to express support and appreciation to the SEC in their rejection of this rule, with supporting encouragement for this decision and future outcome.
With due consideration to the reasons for the rejection as presented:
  • Section 17A(b)(3)(F) of the Exchange Act, which requires, among other things, that the rules of a clearing agency are designed to promote the prompt and accurate clearance and settlement of securities transactions and derivative agreements, contracts, and transactions; and to assure the safeguarding of securities and funds which are in the custody or control of the clearing agency or for which it is responsible; [Refer to 15 U.S.C. 78q-1(b)(3)(F)]
  • Rule 17Ad-22(e)(2) of the Exchange Act, which requires that a covered clearing agency provide for governance arrangements that, among other things, specify clear and direct lines of responsibility; and [Refer to 17 CFR Ā§ 240.17Ad-22(e)(2)]
  • Rule 17Ad-22(e)(6) of the Exchange Act, which requires that a covered clearing agency establish, implement, maintain, and enforce written policies and procedures reasonably designed to cover, if the covered clearing agency provides central counterparty services, its credit exposures to its participants by establishing a risk-based margin system that, among other things, (1) considers, and produces margin levels commensurate with, the risks and particular attributes of each relevant product, portfolio, and market, and (2) calculates sufficient margin to cover its potential future exposure to participants in the interval between the last margin collection and the close out of positions following a participant default. [Refer to 17 CFR Ā§ 240.17Ad-22(e)(6)]
The OCC, as the central counterparty for options and futures contracts traded on U.S. exchanges, plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of the options market. Its primary responsibility is to guarantee the fulfillment of contracts and manage the risk associated with trading these financial instruments.
Margin calls serve a crucial purpose in the financial system by acting as a safeguard against excessive risk-taking. They ensure that clearing members have adequate collateral to cover potential losses, thereby preventing them from overextending themselves on their bets. However, by allowing for adjustments to margin thresholds during periods of high volatility, there is a risk of undermining this fundamental principle.
In the context of financial jargon, this proposal effectively allows clearing members to "kick the can down the road" when it comes to meeting their financial obligations. It's akin to "moving the goalposts" in a high-stakes game, where the rules are changed to accommodate those struggling to keep up.
Imagine a scenario where a hedge fund has taken substantial positions on a volatile stock. As the stock price experiences wild fluctuations, the hedge fund might find itself increasingly unable to meet its margin requirements. Under Rule SR-OCC-2024-001, the margin thresholds could be adjusted, effectively lowering the bar for maintaining adequate collateral. This not only incentivises risky behavior but also exacerbates systemic risk, as it increases the likelihood of default later down the line.
Furthermore, such adjustments lack transparency and introduce an element of arbitrariness into the margin calculation process. Without clear guidelines and objective criteria for determining margin thresholds, there is a risk of favoritism or manipulation, further eroding market integrity.
The use of "idiosyncratic volatility control settings" to adjust these margin thresholds during high volatility introduces a risk because it lacks transparency in the calculation and implementation process. Without clear guidelines on how these settings are determined, there is a potential for arbitrary or ad-hoc adjustments, allowing the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) to alter the criteria whenever Clearing Members require assistance. This flexibility raises concerns about fairness, as it may create an environment where the rules can be changed based on individual circumstances, potentially favouring certain market participants or introducing an element of unpredictability.
The proposal's supporting evidence, particularly regarding said calculation of margin thresholds, is troublingly redacted. This lack of disclosure undermines the principles of transparency and accountability that are crucial in regulatory frameworks. As stakeholders, we require detailed information on how these adjustments will be made to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all market participants.
This lack of transparency undermines the integrity of financial markets by eroding trust among participants. Financial markets thrive on clear and consistent rules that are applied uniformly to ensure a level playing field. When rules can be adjusted opaquely, it creates uncertainty and diminishes confidence in the regulatory framework. Maintaining trust is essential for the effective functioning of financial markets, and transparency in rule-making and enforcement is a key factor in upholding the integrity of the overall financial system.
Moreover, the proposal grants unchecked authority to the Financial Risk Management (FRM) Officer to make unilateral decisions during periods of high market stress. This authority, while ostensibly intended to protect the interests of the OCC, raises questions about potential conflicts of interest. The FRM Officer is entrusted with safeguarding both the OCC's interests and those of at-risk Clearing Members, creating a potential conflict that needs addressing and changing.
In conclusion, Rule SR-OCC-2024-001 poses a significant threat to the stability and integrity of the financial system. It undermines the fundamental purpose of margin calls and introduces unnecessary risks that could have dire consequences for market participants.
In light of these concerns, I urge the Securities and Exchange Commission to carefully reconsider this proposal and prioritise the protection of investors and the stability of the financial markets by rejecting Proposed Rule SR-OCC-2024-001. Clear guidelines, transparency in calculations, and checks and balances on discretionary authority are essential for maintaining the integrity and stability of the financial markets.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the SEC will carefully consider these concerns and take appropriate actions to address the potential risks associated with this rule.
Sincerely,
[APE]

TL;DRs šŸš€šŸ¦
  • Wall Street relies on the OCC for options and futures contracts.
  • Options require less upfront capital than buying shares, allowing Wall Street to control larger market positions with less initial investment.
  • Ideal for those who might be low on liquidity
  • Wall Street often leverages these positions using loans from banks, known as margin trading.
  • If a stockā€™s price moves against the investor's position (like GME skyrocketing), Wall Street's gotta put up more collateral against their option contracts.
  • This is called margin call.
  • Failure to meet margin calls can lead to hedge fund defaults and potentially bankruptcy.
  • Hedge fund defaults can also impact the banks that lent them money, increasing the risk of bank defaults.
  • AKA risking bank default too.
  • If clearing members can't cover losses, the OCC may need to use its funds to fulfill obligations to GME shareholders.
  • OCC donā€™t want to lose money
  • To prevent losses, the OCC wants to adjust margin thresholds for short sellers, reducing the risk of defaults by hedge funds and banks, and minimising threat to the OCC.

2024.05.16 16:34 Rio-Labs Rio: WebApps in pure Python. No JavaScript, HTML and CSS needed!

Hi everyone! We're excited to announce that our reactive web UI framework is now public. This project has been in the works for quite some time, and we're excited to share it with you. Feel free to check it out and share your feedback!
There is a short coding GIF on GitHub.

What My Project Does

Rio is a brand new GUI framework designed to let you create modern web apps with just a few lines of Python. Our goal is to simplify web and app development, allowing you to focus on what matters most instead of getting stuck on complicated user interface details.
We achieve this by adhering to the core principles of Python that we all know and love. Python is meant to be simple and concise, and Rio embodies this philosophy. There's no need to learn additional languages like HTML, CSS, or JavaScript, as all UI, logic, components, and even layout are managed entirely in Python. Moreover, there's no separation between front-end and back-end; Rio transparently handles all communication for you.

Showcase

Rio doesn't just serve HTML templates like you might be used to from frameworks like Flask. In Rio you define components as simple dataclasses with a React/Flutter style build method. Rio continuously watches your attributes for changes and updates the UI as necessary.
class MyComponent(rio.Component): clicks: int = 0 def _on_press(self) -> None: self.clicks += 1 def build(self) -> rio.Component: return rio.Column( rio.Button('Click me', on_press=self._on_press), rio.Text(f'You clicked the button {self.clicks} time(s)'), ) app = rio.App(build=MyComponent) app.run_in_browser()
Notice how there is no need for any explicit HTTP requests. In fact there isn't even a distinction between frontend and backend. Rio handles all communication transparently for you. Unlike ancient libraries like tkinter, Rio ships with over 50 builtin components in Google's Material Design. Moreover the same exact codebase can be used for both local apps and websites.

Key Features

Target Audience

Rio is perfect for developers who want to create web apps without spending time learning new languages. Itā€™s also ideal for those who want to build modern, professional-looking apps without stressing over the details.
We welcome your thoughts and questions in the comments! If you like the project, please give it a star on GitHub to show your support and help us continue improving it.

2024.05.16 16:29 heyhoitstheway i think my sister is having a psychiatric crisis - how to help?

i (23f) have a younger sister, ā€œSusanā€ (21f) that i believe might be experiencing a psychiatric crisis or something? mental health issues is very genetic in my family, i myself was in and out of the hospital about 13 times from ages 12-17 and struggled with a myriad of issues; my concern is coming from a place of love and not judgement. a little background on Susan: our parents separated when she was 6 months old and she never had a relationship with our dad. our stepdad met our mom when she was 4, and he has been in our life since. he wasnā€™t the calmest guy. he were taken from our parents custody when she was 11 and she was in kinship with our aunt for a year. fast forward to high school, she had some issues with attendance and completing things, she said this was all anxiety based. in high school she was able to keep a job as a hostess in a nice restaurant for 2 years until she was fired for thinking her managers were talking about her behind her back and discussing her concerns with coworkers. after several attempts to try to clear the aistraighten out the issue with no success, she was let go. interestingly, my mom had the same thing happen to her right before we were removed and she was let go from a bank. my mom ended up needing inpatient for paranoia because she thought people were recording her and hiding listening devices in her car. since Susan lost her hostess job, she hasnā€™t been able to keep a job for longer than a few weeks to a month. she has issues with hygiene as well as feeding herself, sheā€™s lost a lot of weight in the last year and a half. sheā€™s had issues with stealing from family as well as stores. sheā€™s faced legal action because of this. she also smokes weed often (itā€™s legal, no judgement). in the last year and a half, Susan has been violent towards our family. we have two younger sisters 15 and 13, and she has tried to fight them both over thinking they were talking badly about her. she has threatened to kill our stepdad and then herself. she waves a knife around and screams at us to get us to do what she wants us to, which is usually sit quietly in the living room without talking. if she hears talking, she comes back in and screams asking what weā€™re saying about her. itā€™s terrifying. iā€™ve had to go pick my sisters up and bring them to my apartment because theyā€™re so scared of her at this point. i keep telling my parents that when this happens, they should call the police. not because i want her in trouble, but because itā€™s scary and children live in the house. most recently, she texted me and said she had a religious experience and she believes prayer works and god is the answer. we arenā€™t a religious family, and she in the past was never, and i mean never, someone who was interested in religion. she used to be into crystals and spirituality but she now says that is evil. this morning, i got a text from her saying she knows for a fact the neighbor is keeping a woman hostage in his house. she says she can hear screaming but nobody else has ever heard this. i just want to help her, and the behavior is getting worse. i donā€™t know what to do because i donā€™t live with her anymore and our parents donā€™t call 911 when something happens. does this all sound like a psychiatric break or am i overreacting? i know schizophrenia can set in around this time but i donā€™t know if she is exhibiting the symptoms. what can i do?

2024.05.16 16:27 Fantastic_Season_752 AITA for wanting to ghost my friend

AITA for wanting to ghost my friend?

I (F 16), have a friend (F 17) who I will name as Callie. Callie and I have been very close friends for a year and we used to hang out 2 times a week up until this month due to me having a busier schedule. I have had 3 AP exams and I have been stressed due to school and my sport taking up most of my time which left me unable to hang out with her. Her comments are very passive aggressive as she says "ugh you spend all your time studying you freak" with an annoyed tone, "watch out your boyfriend will leave you if you keep spending all your time at the library", and even "why do you even try if you know you're going to fail". I am normally a very extroverted person and I go out 3-4 times a week. I'm not trying to be mean but I am trying to contextualize. Callie is on the bigger side and I am her "best friend". I do not consider her my best friend as I do not have a best friend, just close friends.
Her comments got gradually more aggressive when I started hanging out with my boyfriend at least once a week because he lives in a different town. She was not even happy for me when I told her my boyfriend and I started dating. She seemed annoyed but she likes him so I am very confused.
Recently, she asked me if I was doing anything before prom (over snap text) and I responded, "yes I have plans with my group of friends". Callie tried getting herself invited but I feel like it is not my place to invite her because it is not my house, she knows of these people but she is not friends with them, and some of them do not like her because she was rude to them at one point. She asked more directly after trying to subtly get invited and I shut her down politely saying, "hi sorry, we have had these plans for two months and the venue is booked, i feel like it would be unfair if i changed our group plans at the last minute". She went and told her popular friends (who don't even like her because she tries to self-insert herself into that group and invites herself to parties), that I "screamed in her face no and that she is too fat to take pictures with my friends and me". That is all nonsense and she made me look bad in front of other people. Mind you, my conversation with Callie was over snap messages. Her popular friends are on good terms with me and they did not believe that I screamed in her face but instead they thought that Callie was trying to get them to pity her. Callie specifically said "Oh *my name* screamed in my face that she doesn't want to take pictures with me and I would be too fat and wouldn't fit in so now I am taking pictures with you guys". Yet again, Callie tried self inserting but she was shut down by them.
Callie is desperately trying to become closer with these popular girls but she is willing to throw me under the bus even when I was there for her through rough times (breakups, mental breakdowns, and I was there when she just needed a friend). I am offended because she is willing to throw away a good friendship for people who only want to use her as DD (designated driver) and they talk so badly of her.
Callie has also been taking her anger out on me, trying to cheat off of my school work, and she complains about me to ME. When I don't give her my school work she gets mad and ignores me but then apologizes and just says it is her mental health. She blames a lot of things on her mental and physical wellbeing but I don't think mental health issues would excuse being mean to me. I feel taken advantage of but at the same time I am her only true friend. She also tried to spread rumors about me and is trying to become BFFs with my boyfriend but her actions are not reciprocated which I find humorous. She is a good person but maybe she is just going through a rough patch. She will be at my prom table during prom and it will be awkward because she will follow me around like a little duckling. She has also tried to get herself invited to my friend's after party that is strictly invite only and she has tried getting onto the party bus with out paying (she was not invited here too). It is in a way that is uncomfortable and desperate but it is not my place to invite her. I want to enjoy my prom and my summer so do I ghost her after prom? AITA for wanting to leave even if I am her only friend? She complains to me about having no one to hang out with too.

Beyond Textbooks: Engaging Students with Digital Publishing in Higher Ed
https://preview.redd.it/c617qonqqs0d1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb72160c2e637b482e4b13a400f931cd43a8db2d
For decades, textbooks have been the cornerstone of higher education. But in todayā€™s dynamic learning landscape, static textbooks are struggling to capture the attention of digital-native students. Enter digital publishing: a transformative force thatā€™s revolutionizing the way students learn and engage with course material.
The Drawbacks of Textbooks: A Call for Change
Traditional textbooks come with a slew of limitations. Theyā€™re often static and expensive, offering limited interactivity and accessibility features. This makes it difficult for students with diverse learning styles to grasp complex concepts. Additionally, textbooks become outdated quickly, leaving students grappling with potentially irrelevant information.
The Power of Digital Publishing
Digital publishing offers a breath of fresh air. E-books and interactive learning platforms introduce a dynamic learning environment, fostering deeper engagement and knowledge retention. Here are some ways digital publishing is transforming higher education:
  • Enhanced Engagement: Digital publications allow for interactive elements like embedded videos, simulations, and quizzes. These features break down complex concepts into digestible chunks, making learning more interactive and enjoyable.
  • Accessibility for All: Digital publishing platforms can cater to diverse learning styles by offering text-to-speech conversion, closed captions for videos, and the ability to adjust font sizes and colors. This creates an inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Real-Time Updates: Unlike static textbooks, digital publications can be updated in real-time to reflect the latest research and developments in the field. This ensures students are learning with the most current information.
  • Collaboration and Community Building: Digital platforms enable collaboration features like online discussions, shared notes, and peer review functionalities. This fosters a sense of community and encourages active learning among students.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Compared to the ever-increasing cost of traditional textbooks, digital publications offer a more cost-effective solution. Institutions can create custom learning materials or curate open educational resources (OERs) to reduce student expenses.
Developing Engaging Digital Content
The success of digital publishing hinges on creating engaging content. Here are some tips for faculty to consider:
  • Focus on interactive elements: Integrate multimedia content, polls, quizzes, and games to make learning more immersive.
  • Break down complex topics: Use clear and concise language with visuals, infographics, and short videos to explain difficult concepts.
  • Incorporate real-world applications: Connect theory to practice by including case studies, guest lectures from industry experts, and project-based learning activities.
  • Make feedback interactive: Encourage student participation through online forums, group discussions, and real-time feedback mechanisms.
The Future of Learning is Here
Digital publishing is not just a trend; itā€™s the future of higher education. By embracing these new tools, educators can create dynamic, engaging learning experiences that prepare students for success in the 21st century.
