2024.06.10 03:23 agrenman Why are proxies a controversial thing in MTG?

I'm not new to magic, just new to deckbuilding outside of cards that i already own, and realized that my (most likely grade 4) goofy ass give'n'take commander deck built entirely for fun and not wins (yargle and multani is my commander, to show how unserious of a deck it is) would cost me $2000 to buy cards for. I am poor, so im not doing that, but im also worried to proxy because it seems like every time proxies are mentioned literally ANYWHERE a bunch of demented assholes flood just repeatedly saying the most nonsensical things, like if you cant afford to play, you shouldnt be allowed to play. And i just dont get it, even if i have a $200-300 mana crypt, why would i bring it to a card shop just to play a janky golgari deck? Should it really matter to me that you dont have any financial worries and can spend a grand a week on MTG while i barely have enough money to pay for food? If you can and want to buy cards, go ahead, its just that i cant. The one exception that i see is if you run a EDH deck in casual with proxies. I do have some sweaty cards in my jank, like mana crypt, demonic tutor, and seedtime, but being fr, nothing i could do untill turn 5 would maybe even be a threat anyways, i dont have any infinites or direct combos, and i dont have any OTK or even traces of control cards. Why should it matter if i have to print cards? Sorry for ranting, its just really damn annoying.

2024.06.10 03:13 MisterBehave MTG proxy decks are going for $65 a pop (ur dragon, eldrazi, ninja). Yes they have all the “dual lands” and combos. Is there really a market for proxy decks?

I personally don’t really hate proxies but feel like if you go somewhere and expect to play with a proxy deck you should be able to accept “no” and have an alternative deck. Pro proxy players say it’s cheaper and everyone has access. But in what world would I not just print off pieces of paper and use them instead of paying $65 for a 100 fake cards. This is more expensive than a precon. The proxy decks have dual lands and other reserve list cards all with new art.
Will the market be able to support decks like these? Yes they have new “art”, but I can’t imagine wizards allowing this to go on further. Allowing a seller to just sell your product publicly seems like an immediate cease and desist thing. Has anyone seen these in the wild?

2024.06.10 01:35 fungusfromamongus Backup Vultr Debian instance with Veeam BR without Site to Site VPN

Hi All,
I am just playing around with VBR community edition and was wondering if anyone else has managed to do the needful and backup their Linux instance from Vultr using VBR without using any site to site vpn solution to extend the VPS network to their onpremise?
I am havbing some issues with the backup process from VBR:
11:11:20 AM Error: Failed to execute agent management command startBackup. Failed to connect to the endpoint [192.168.1.249:10006]. Connection timed out Failed to connect: WIN-POBMFPI0AN8:10006; 192.168.1.249:10006 Failed to establish connection to Veeam server.
The 192.168.1.249 is the IP address of the VBR and the only backup proxy.
Is there a way I can specify the IP address to be the public IP address of the VBR server?
Cheers.

Meanwhile the US and Israel are playing whack -a-Mole with Iranian proxies.
I find it hard to believe, but it seems as if the primitive Mullahs are outsmarting the West.
These fanatics Islamo Fascists and their nuclear can of worms, is one can we can NOT kick down the road, or the world as we know it, will never be the same.

2024.06.10 00:53 gaming-guy-906 Good news

Just thought I'd share a really nice good news story. I played Runescape about 20 years ago (I was 10ish at the time) and loved it. All my mates were into it too, and they were all members. I was only every a free to play member because my family wasn't in the best spot financially but it provided me many hours entertainment none the less.
Recently I got back into OSRS a bit more, playing a few hours here and there. Chatted to a nice guy while we were grinding away, who helped me join his clan (clans were a foreign concept to me).
The other day I mentioned in this clan I was starting out again and not sure what to do next. They gave me so much stuff, lots of money and gear... They helped direct me to choose which stats to improve.
A couple of clan members gave me a bond, and I'm now a member for the first time in my life (I could afford it as an adult now but just never really got around to it). Being gifted the bond kind of gave me some nice nostalgia vibes and felt like it took me back to my childhood. They helped me with some of the new member features and got me started on grinding some stats. All they asked was that I pay it forward when I'm in a position to help others, which of course I will.
I just wanted to share because I felt like it was a really great example of how positive online community, and especially OSRS community can be. There's a lot of trolls on the internet generally but this brought me genuine joy in my life and I hope hearing about it brings you some too!

2024.06.10 00:36 Iron-Ham Offline Incremental/Economic RPGs

Basically, I want to play RuneScape -- but want something offline. Graveyard Keeper got close, but I've beaten it fully!
The key aspects: - I can care less about combat. - I like being able to visually see progress: gold or levels in RS are clear indicators of progress. For instance, this is why Planet Crafter was also great! - I like producing goods / crafting and generally don't love building mechanics common to survival games. planet Crafyer was fine because most of the building was stitching prefabs together. - A variety of activities is great!
Obviously, RS and New World both fit this bill... but both are online and I'd really appreciate an offline experience.

You Want to Make Money and So Does GameStop: When I Move You Move
So if you're reading this you were probably kicked in the pants during premarket trading 06/07/2024. Cohen released Q1 earnings early and filed to to issue 75M newly minted shares from the company's treasury. Kitty was taking us to the moon, and the rocket exploded before it exited the atmosphere. So now what? Here's a sober reading of where things stand and where I think Cohen's turnaround is going.
tldr: Cohen is turning GME into a Berkshire Hathaway type company and the share price will rocket to mars if you trust the process.
Take a step back and consider the situation. Shares of a video game pawn shop are the proxy for a battleground on wall street.
Many hedge funds and large whales think the company will fail, and buy puts or take short positions on the stock. Others like you and I think the company's stock is going to go up via a squeeze, or because the fundamentals are rapidly improving under Ryan Cohen's tutelage.
What happened yesterday matters less than what happens tomorrow.
I have a thesis for what Cohen's thinking, and why Friday's moves by GameStop will be good for the stock that you like.
So 75M new shares represents 15% of dilution and raises outstanding shares to 420M (nice). Technically 421M but whatever.
At the end of trading Friday, 279M shares traded. Loud AF volume. Cohen very easily could have completed the 75M share offering selling into that frenzy given that extraordinary liquidity. Including premarket prices, the stock traded between $26-64.
Share activity 06/07/2024 per yahoo! finance
What this means is:
Racks on Racks
Assuming Ryan Cohen lined up some trades from the line of people that want their hands on shares, we could have sold those 75M shares at a $40/sh average. That means the company just raised a fresh $3 Billion with a B.
Add that to the $2 Billion already in the bank and you got nearly $5 Billion cash and no debt or liabilities.
Assuming Cohen decides to take a nap on that cash pile, the company will generate $250,000,000 Interest Income per year at a 5% rate. THIS IS BIG.
At a minimum this means GameStop will be profitable this year, next year, forever.
Remember back in March 2024, we learned GameStop was profitable for the first time in years?
Source: GME Earnings Release FY 2023
What if we slap $250M of interest income onto the $6.7M of FY 2023 income? We'd have a 2023 net income of $257M vs a net loss in 2022 of $313M. That's a $570M swing in income.
But we are in FY 2024 and we just got Q1 results...and guess what? FY2024 net income is going to crush FY2023, and the media isn't telling you that.
jerk off hand motion
Let's analyze Friday's Q1 earning release (the worst earning report of the year as it follows the holidays).
https://gamestop.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gamestop-discloses-first-quarter-2024-results
We learned: Expenses are shrinking and our Net Loss for the Quarter was $32M compared to $50M the year before. That's a 36% improvement in profitability in a 1 year timespan.
What we should see in the quarters to come is a decrease in expenses as GameStop closes less profitable stores in locations where multiple stores exists. Revenue will decrease yes, but so will expenses, and margins in the remaining stores will grow.
Remember, GameStop was profitable for the year, and with continued cost cuts at retail stores, and with $250M interest income, will make FY 2024 net income of $3-400 Million, or a $1 + Earnings per share.
Cohen is doing the impossible: making GME stores income generators.
So what? I want to shit on my boss's desk on Monday?
Well if you want to make money think like Roaring Kitty and Ryan Cohen. Remember RK is DeepFuckingValue, and he sees value in this play from a fundamentals lens.
Here's what Cohen is doing:
$250M of interest income is cool, but not cool enough. Imagine a quarter or two from now we get a big update from RC and this is what he does with the $5B cash:
example of DeepFuckingValue
A move like this would cause tectonic plates to shift on wall street.
GameStop's cash balance shifting into equities turns the company into a mini Berkshire Hathaway raising the floor on the stock price, eliminating bankruptcy and setting us up to make money on the stonk through capital appreciation.
Say Cohen is as savvy as we think and his investments of GameStop's capital increase 20% and he sells them in a year? 20% on $4 Billion of gain is net income of $800M, $2 EPS. Company now has nearly $6B cash. Rinse, repeat
If you can see my point, Cohen/Kitty see GME as a DEEEEEEP value play.
GameStop can use it's cash pile to leverage it's earnings potential and explode it's market cap. Consider this:
https://preview.redd.it/6vvxvjnu8m5d1.png?width=443&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd6b75fd61bee727366ed290efd5cfb8a5458445
If GameStop can increase it's war chest, our marketcap floor increases. At a $84B evaluation GME shares would be trading at $200 ($800) pre split.
When GameStop makes and raises money, we make and raise money. When I move, you move.
So don't be discouraged about dips. This play is still live, there's value here and I'm invested regardless of any squeeze. This is NVIDIA before it was $1200/share protentional in my opinion.

2024.06.09 23:23 allaccountnamesused [Discussion] Modern Affinity

It’s no secret at this point that affinity looks poised to make a splash after mh3 and the question for everyone who loves turning grey cards sideways is “what’s the best way to do it?” I don’t have any particular deck lists that I think are worth posting since I haven’t put in the reps to justify advocating for any build so in this post I’m going to lay out some archetypes I think are worth considering and the cards I think are worth looking at from mh3.

General Thoughts

Affinity has felt as though it was on the cusp of meaningful viability for some time now and as people have pointed out on this subreddit before it seems to have an issue of balancing enablers and payoffs in a way that avoids clunky dead hands. Kappa cannoneer is positioned to offer a resilient beater and Ugin’s Labyrinth will help us avoid clunky hands.
Izzet affinity beatdown
This list is the one I think is most likely to take off early on. Easy access to meltdown, weatear, galvanic blast and countermagic all make this a strong contender though red does less for the deck than other second colors might.
Simic Hoof
There was experimentation after MH2 with a Simic version of the list that was neoforming 7 drops into hoof on big boards for wins
Dimir (hand destruction?)
MH3 has opened up black as a serious contender for a secondary color. Cards like etherium pteramander and refurbished familiar provide a solid early game while still being useful draws later on and crabomination supplements the top of our curve while also having potential to outright steal games off of good flips. If E tron ends up being the menace it’s threatening to be I could see this being a solid choice.
Grixis 8 plate
This list will have to sacrifice playing artifact lands and Ugin’s Labyrinth in favor of shocks and fetches to consistently hit its colors. Cards like pteramander, cranial plating, and cranial ram supported by our 0 cost artifacts with a top end of kappa cannoneer, thought monitor, and a couple copies of imskir, iron eater has the potential to put on serious pressure. The big concern this deck has given its higher density of lower cost artifacts would be getting crushed by meltdown in a way that the 7 mana affinity builds above don’t once they’re established. On the other hand, this list likely does have an easier time rebuilding than the higher cmc lists do.
Mox amber
This is the deck I’m least sure about and if it works i expect it to be UR with 4x tamiyo, 4x Ragavan, 4x Emry. Fitting these in requires cutting artifacts which slows us down and makes me think the deck wants a combo payoff or resigns itself to playing a grindier midrange deck.

individual card considerations (in no particular order)

Ugin’s Labyrinth: a card everyone knew would be a problem the second it was spoiled. This card’s ability to LARP as ancient tomb makes it an obvious candidate for a 7 drop heavy build. In order to consistently have an enabler in hand on turn 1 we want 14 7+ CMC cards in the deck. Obvious includes for this would be playsets of frogmyr enforcer, myr enforcer, and soujorner’s companion which leaves us wanting 2 more (arcane proxy and phyrexian fleshgorger are the only two that stand out to me).
Crabomination: this card strikes me as one with a lot of potential. While it doesn’t have any way to protect itself it’s a card that threatens to take over a game if it’s allowed to resolve and it’s well within the realm of possibility that we could land it on turns 2 or 3 consistently.
Etherium Pteramander: another big draw to running black as a secondary color. There’s nothing not to love about this card except for concerns about consistently casting it on turn 1.
Phyrexian Tower: I dont think much needs to be said about this, If the deck ends up in UB this card ends up in the deck.
Tamiyo: This card lends itself to either a slower midrange build or the Simic hoof build. Generating clues to draw you out of a stall and increase artifact count is great but being able to -3 to recur neoform and try to combo again or get back a galvanic blast to fight for board is fantastic.
Patchwork automaton: I’m torn on this card. We obviously can’t grow it as fast as legacy 8 cast and it can end up clunky but the ability to jam it on 1 off of Labyrinth and start pumping it puts a lot of pressure on an opponent especially if you follow it with kappa on 2 or 3.
Refurbished familiar: this card deserves testing. I think it has a real chance at replacing frogmite in any list running black

The 3 drops

These two cards are competing for an important slot in the deck.
Simulacrum Synthesizer: a card that’s been a staple in affinity lists for a while and will likely be an absolute house game one. Its major drawback is its fragility to meltdown which I have no doubt will be seeing a great deal of play in the near future. Not only does X=0 kill our tokens but X=3 isn’t unreasonable and takes the synthesizer with it.
Kozilek’s unsealing: my personal love of drawing a bunch of cards makes me lean in this direction over synthesizer but this card can also help smooth out curves with mana from saccing spawns and keeps us on a gameplan of presenting a high volume of threats while preventing us from ending up with 0 cards in hand. Thought monitor for 5 cards seems too good to pass up and the fact that it triggers on cast means it insulates us from counter magic.

Conclusion

At a glance, affinity looks to be in a better place than it has been in years. I’m hopeful that this modern classic will get to have another day in the sun and would love to hear the community’s thoughts on what the best colors are and see what lists everyone is brewing right now.

2024.06.09 23:12 ME_CPA You Want to Make Money and So Does GameStop: When I Move You Move

Share activiy 06/07/2024 per yahoo!

If GameStop can increase it's war chest, our marketcap floor increases. At a $84B evaluation GME shares would be trading at $200 ($800) pre split.
When GameStop makes and raises money, we make and raise money. When I move, you move.
So don't be discouraged about dips. This play is still live, there's value here and I'm invested regardless of any squeeze. This is NVIDIA before it was $1200/share protentional in my opinion.

Creating a tunnel between 2 oracle VPS and Hope network
Hello !
So, I have 2 VPS from Oracle cloud,
the thing is :
From my home connection (France 80.x.x.x) to Singapore, the ping is at 315ms
But ! Inter-Region latency from Oracle VPS (France) to Oracle VPS (singapore) the ping is at : 170ms
So what I try to do here, is, I have a OpenVPN server on both VPS, but I want a tunnel between the 2 VPS and use the Oracle Inter-Region low latency to have less ping from my home to Singapore,
I want to connect to France VPS so 150.x.x.x via VPN or proxy, (because from Home to FR VPS I have 4ms ping) then the FR VPS should tunnel all trough Singapore VPS so 230.x.x.x, (Because oracle inter region latency is at 170ms ) so when I'll browse something on the web or play games I'll be able to use a Singapore connection with ~180ms
You can see on the image what I try to do, not the best I know.
I tryed with openVpn (the auto install script from angristan https://github.com/angristan/openvpn-install made a client conf on France VPS and used it on Singapore, and made a client conf on Singapore VPS and used it in France, then another client conf on France VPS to connect from home PC to France VPS, but It didn't connect.. (OpenVpn Client infinit loading..)
I tryed a proxy Chain with socat and Squid, but couldn't manage to setup correctly so it did not work
Thanks !

2024.06.09 21:38 joey4tunato1 Failed SSL Handshake

Hey everyone I have set up authentik and pointed a cname to it using cloudflare and have it reverse proxied as an auth using a cloudflare generated SSL cert. It works well and when I click on the link it takes me to my Authentik instance. I set up the application and provider. Updated the outpost to include the application and made sure the Authentik host matches the proxied link. Ive copied and pasted the Nginx proxy manager advanced config and updated the proxy pass. I’ve tried every variation of hostip:port I can think of that matches my situation. I’ve followed videos to a T and every time I click the application link the SSL handshake fails. Has anyone encountered this problem? Thanks in advance!
PS: I’ve used Authelia and I like it however Authentik gives me several more options I can play with so would like to use it.

2024.06.09 20:54 I-AM-THE-SENATE-66 How do I exchange a PlayStation game code that's from another country?

I tried using a VPN, but the PlayStation website gives me an error and I was told that using a proxy server would work better. Thing is that I don't actually know how to set that up and googling the issue has led to the same half-assed answer.
How can I do this? Or am I just screwed now?
And if this issue doesn't belong in this sub I'd appreciate pointing me in the right direction.

2024.06.09 20:48 Kralizec555 E103 Error - Netflix thinks I'm in wrong country only on PC

I've been having a weird problem with Netflix, and so far their support has been unable to help. Netflix gives the E103 error (this title is not available in your region), but only for seemingly random, specific titles. It also displays many other titles on the main browsing screen that are not currently available, it only shows the "remind me" option instead of a play button. Still other titles play just fine.
The kicker is that all of this only happens on my Windows PC. The same behavior happens in Chrome and Firefox. But everything works just fine on my Android phone, Roku, etc. The same titles that give the E103 error play just fine on these devices.
Everything is connected to my same WiFi network. I'm not using a VPN or proxy, and checking my IP address confirms it finds my location correctly. I've tried clearing my cache and logging out all devices. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

2024.06.09 20:16 thedudewhoyeets LGS told me “Fake as ___” then threw my cards down on the table…. Am I crazy?

So listen, I’ve been going through my bulk a lot recently and found some dual lands. 9 of them to be exact. They were alongside lots of other high value cards in my collection, just haven’t sorted through all of them and decided to now. I immediately was baffled and double sleeved them, called up my old shop in Montana, sent them a scan and they said so far they look legit. That made me look through a jeweler’s loop and they seemed legit.
Then, that made me confident enough to go to my LGS here in PA. Even THEY confirmed them as real! So I initially thought why not get a third opinion and then try and grade them. Why not?
So I go to another LGS and the gatekeeper of the cashier (he’s the one who decides what sells and what doesn’t and what the store should then buy, and even offers cash right there) says how can I help? I replied by telling him that these cards may be proxies because I used to play with some proxies back in the day when I was broke and that I would love to authenticate them. I would love for you to look through these cards and tell me what you think. He proceeds to look and even HE SAYS THEYRE LEGIT! Then he goes and talks to the owner who comes over and immediately picks them up out of the trade binder, loudly proclaims “fake as shit” and throws them at the table. He then asked his worker “you were about to buy these?”. Then asks me “why would you try to sell us fakes?”. To which I respond “I was transparent with the fact that I needed these authenticated. Not only that, I even told you I personally think they’re proxies and that is why I came here (I worked at an LGS for years, figured who else but my local game store to save the day?) to authenticate them. And on top of that, I never even offered these for sale! I only stated from the beginning that I would like for them to be authenticated here so I can feel comfortable selling them. Not to them, to anyone. I never offered them for trade here.
I asked him to explain why these were fake and he, with an attitude explains how only his cards are real and mine were fake, being accusatory and I just thanked him for his time and left after collecting the cash for some other cards I sold. He said the shine was too much, but that is not the reason I think they’re fake. They’re very good proxies I think, but let me know what you think. They pass every test, I just don’t feel like they’re real. I don’t remember buying these and definitely never opened a revised pack.
I need to know, am I the asshole? I just wanted my cards to be authenticated. My LGS should be a judgement free zone where I go to trade, buy, and play. Not get accused of robbery when I was trying to get confirmation.
The photo is of the front and back of 3 of these revised dual lands I found.
TLDR:
I went to the card shop and asked to authenticate some cards, the owner accused me of trying to sell fakes and were rude to me and the employee who authenticated them and threw them on the table after telling me they’re fake as shit.
