2024.05.15 17:52 Shower-Jumpy Not worth the price at all!
When they announced the games that we’re leaving plus account to around 30 games, and only added like 10 games later on, I got absolutely flamed with downvotes by a whole lot of people for speaking the truth. This company keeps adding old titles with cheap budgets and cut on 30+ games every other month and then they raise prices to 160 dollars a year for a premium service that they barely give two shits about. I don’t care if this gets downvoted again but I believe it’s time we don’t put up with this BS and ask for some quality titles instead of whatever they give out nowadays!

2024.05.15 17:47 imsellingbanana MMW fast food sales will not slow enough to revert inflated prices
We've all seen the huge triple digit percentage price increases at McDonald's, Taco Bell, all of it. Check
inflation out to see some details. One might expect this to lead to a reduction in profits for a company like McDonald's since the main audience for their food is lower-mid income people wanting something fast and cheap. By inflating their prices so heavily they're not only pricing out their target audience but also increasing the amount of competitors for their price range. Why stop at McDonald's when you can get a higher quality meal from a place like Chili's or Chipotle for the same price.
But I don't think McDonald's will see a decrease in profits, definitely not enough of a decrease to roll back their price increases. I think this is the new normal. They will probably see a reduction in sales, but the inflated prices will off set any missed profits.
I think this is because despite McDonald's serving low quality food at inflated prices (and shrinkflated sizes), they have established an established brand with customers that won't quit buying their product no matter what. There's a lot of people who will buy something, complain about the price and quality of their purchase, then buy it some more. They've developed a purchasing pattern in their lives that is hard to break from. Some people make enough money that McDonald's increased prices don't even make a dent financially, so they don't care enough to skip out on the convenience. A boycott simply doesn't work anymore, there's too many people with their own reasons to buy even when faced with many reasons not to.
In the video game world a heavy purchaser is called a "whale" and I think there are enough McDonald's "whales" to offset any potential customer that was on the fence about purchasing, then decided not to. I think McDonald's knows this and their pillars of growth have shifted to just providing the most convenient methods of delivery for their established customers. They no longer care about image or swaying the mind of a potential customer, they care only about milking the most they can from their whales, and the whales don't care about being milked.

2024.05.15 17:31 MKID1989 PC stuck in restart loop
Yesterday, I turned on my PC and the fans kicked on for a split second and then turned off. This repeated about 5 times before Windows finally loaded. I thought it was strange but didn't think much of it since I was able to get into Windows. I was able to get logged in and then the computer shut off on it's own before I even had a chance to do anything. When I tried to turn it on again, it is just stuck endlessly looping where the fans will turn on for a split second and then turn off for a second or two and then repeat.
Relevant information:
- Motherboard: ASRock Z97M Pro4
- CPU: Intel i7-4790k (not overclocked)
- PSU: Corsair RM 550x
- Case: MSI MPG Gungnir 300R Airflow
What I've tried so far:
- Disconnected and reconnected everything one at a time and tested turning on the computer with each item disconnected. Items tested in this way:
- RAM
- All USB peripherals
- Ethernet cable
- SSD
- GPU
- All motherboard connectors
- Replaced the ram with 2 separate sets of ram sticks in different ports. I tested the same RAM in another machine and it worked fine.
- Replaced the PSU with a different one that was working the last time it was used.
- Replaced PSU power cable.
- Plugged PC directly into wall outlet, bypassing my surge protector.
- Left PC unplugged for at least an hour before testing again.
I'm fully stumped. I feel that the only items left are the motherboard or the CPU that could be causing the issue. The only other thing left that I can think to do is replace the cmos battery (which I don't think would do anything) or re-seat the CPU but I can't imagine that being the issue since the PC was working fine before yesterday with no hardware changes in between. Those CPU sockets are tight. I can't imagine it suddenly coming dis-aligned and not working when nothing has touched it. If you all recommend I try anyways, I will. I'm just trying to avoid needing to take off the cooler bracket, clean and re-paste it all if I'm just going to have to end up replacing the motherboard and/or CPU anyways.
A couple other details that might be worth mentioning: I ran the CPU on a stock intel cooler for probably longer than I should have. This CPU gets hot with even normal use and I was regularly logging 90c+ temperatures but rarely for prolonged periods. From what I understand, this CPU should be able to handle those temperatures better than other CPUs so I was never in a big rush to correct the issue since I didn't normally do anything too CPU intensive. About 6 months ago, I finally replaced it with a decent cooler but I'm wondering if the damage was already done and it was only a matter of time. I do have another i7-4790k and motherboard I can test with, however, these items never worked together. I ordered them used for a really cheap price and it turned out to be too good to be true. I ended up getting a refund and they didn't ask for the items back. These items have been sitting loose in a box of random items ever since. I could theoretically swap the CPUs and, if that doesn't work, swap the motherboards but use the CPU I was using in that older motherboard. That just seems like A LOT of work for something that I don't even know works. I was already thinking about buying a new motherboard and CPU combo anyways since my current setup doesn't officially support Windows 11 and doesn't support the argb or usb-c port of my case.
Thank you for your time!

2024.05.15 17:30 Aggravating-Run-1913 What scanner to choose for scanning watercolors at a professional level?
Hello,
As the title suggests, we are looking for a scanner to digitize watercolor paintings for printing. My partner is an independent illustrator who works mainly with watercolors, and we want to find a scanner that can produce the most faithful rendering possible to the original artwork. The problem is that we are quickly overwhelmed by the different products available, and we are afraid of having to heavily edit each piece to achieve a realistic result.
To narrow down our search, we have a budget of around 200 €, but we are open to more expensive products if we are completely off base with our pricing expectations. Ideally, the scanner would be able to handle A3 size, but this is not a deal-breaker. However, A4 support is mandatory. We currently use service providers for printing, and we already have the printer we want.
I would also like to specify that we do not need a printer, just a scanner.
Thank you in advance for your help!

2024.05.15 17:20 PerformanceThat6150 Thinking of upgrading, unsure on the benefit
So I've been slowly learning violin for a few months. I have about 14 years experience playing guitar, along with a few other stringed instruments (never any that involved bowing, though).
Thing is, the violin I bought was pretty cheap. Maybe around €90, or about $100, since I wasn't sure if I'd want to stick with it. I'm now a bit more comfortable with it so was looking to upgrade. General consensus seems to be that I'm looking at around 4-5 times that price for a lower end violin.
So I guess I'm asking, should I expect to see any kind of improvement in my playing by jumping up in price point as a beginner? Financially it's a pretty big jump in price but I'm not sure as a beginner if I'd feel the difference.

2024.05.15 17:16 Legitimate-Ship-4888 Looking for reliability?
TL;DR—Brenden and team from Goliath Auto Transport are top notch. Transparent, reliable, friendly, knowledgeable, accurate, accessible, responsive…
Ron from 1 Hope Auto & Transport did everything right.
Highly recommend both.
Long version- I just purchased a vehicle in Oregon. I’m in Michigan. My plan was to fly one way and drive 2300 miles home over a weekend. Was going to cost around $800 just for airfare-not ideal.
Decided to ship vehicle north to a family member’s house in Washington just over the border from Portland, then find cheap airfare to the international airport and drive home.
Quick google search found a company that gave an immediate online quote. Thought I had a good thing going. Come time to confirm details and they tried squeezing me for an extra 20% above initial quote. I ran. Came here to Reddit and saw a Goliath Auto Transport post. Did a bit of heavier research and decided to give them a try.
They don’t give an immediate quote online that may be a turn off for some, but the 15 minute delay or whatever it was for me turned out perfectly.
They have real live humans review each request. They have real people make phone calls to clear up details without trying to sell you anything. You request they give an option. Easy.
I told Brenden my experience with the first transport company and shared their initial quote-price matched without hesitation or needing proof. Happy me, happy them!
My delivery needed completed on fairly short notice and Brenden was able to coordinate to have Ron from 1 Hope complete the pickup and delivery and kept us updated through all of it…
I hope I don’t have to do this very often, but if I do, I’m tracking down these two companies first!

2024.05.15 17:11 mrobo_5ht2a Lessons learned from building cheap GPU servers for JsonLLM
Hey everyone, I'd like to share a few things that I learned while trying to build cheap GPU servers for document extraction, to save your time in case some of you fall into similar issues.
What is the goal? The goal is to build low-cost GPU server and host them in a collocation data center. Bonus point for reducing the electricity bill, as it is the only real meaning expense per month once the server is built. While the applications may be very different, I am working on document extraction and structured responses. You can read more about it here:
https://jsonllm.com/ What is the budget? At the time of starting, budget is around 30k$. I am trying to get most value out of this budget.
What data center space can we use? The space in data centers is measured in rack units. I am renting 10 rack units (10U) for 100 euros per month.
What motherboards/servers can we use? We are looking for the cheapest possible used GPU servers that can connect to modern GPUs. I experimented with ASUS server, such as the ESC8000 G3 (~1000$ used) and ESC8000 G4 (~5000$ used). Both support 8 dual-slot GPUs. ESC8000 G3 takes up 3U in the data center, while the ESC8000 G4 takes up 4U in the data center.
What GPU models should we use? Since the biggest bottleneck for running local LLMs is the VRAM (GPU memory), we should aim for the least expensive GPUs with the most amount of VRAM. New data-center GPUs like H100, A100 are out of the question because of the very high cost. Out of the gaming GPUs, the 3090 and the 4090 series have the most amount of VRAM (24GB), with 4090 being significantly faster, but also much more expensive. In terms of power usage, 3090 uses up to 350W, while 4090 uses up to 450W. Also, one big downside of the 4090 is that it is a triple-slot card. This is a problem, because we will be able to fit only 4 4090s on either of the ESC8000 servers, which limits our total VRAM memory to 4 * 24 = 96GB of memory. For this reason, I decided to go with the 3090. While most 3090 models are also triple slot, smaller 3090s also exist, such as the 3090 Gigabyte Turbo. I bought 8 for 6000$ a few months ago, although now they cost over 1000$ a piece. I also got a few Nvidia T4s for about 600$ a piece. Although they have only 16GB of VRAM, they draw only 70W (!), and do not even require a power connector, but directly draw power from the motherboard.
Building the ESC8000 g3 server - while the g3 server is very cheap, it is also very old and has a very unorthodox power connector cable. Connecting the 3090 leads to the server unable being unable to boot. After long hours of trying different stuff out, I figured out that it is probably the red power connectors, which are provided with the server. After reading its manual, I see that I need to get a specific type of connector to handle GPUs which use more than 250W. After founding that type of connector, it still didn't work. In the end I gave up trying to make the g3 server work with the 3090. The Nvidia T4 worked out of the box, though - and I happily put 8 of the GPUs in the g3, totalling 128GB of VRAM, taking up 3U of datacenter space and using up less than 1kW of power for this server.
Building the ESC8000 g4 server - being newer, connecting the 3090s to the g4 server was easy, and here we have 192GB of VRAM in total, taking up 4U of datacenter space and using up nearly 3kW of power for this server.
To summarize:
Server | VRAM | GPU power | Space |
ESC8000 g3 | 128GB | 560W | 3U |
ESC8000 g4 | 192GB | 2800W | 4U |
Based on these experiences, I think the T4 is underrated, because of the low eletricity bills and ease of connection even to old servers.
I also create a small library that uses socket rpc to distribute models over multiple hosts, so to run bigger models, I can combine multiple servers.
In the table below, I estimate the minimum data center space required, one-time purchase price, and the power required to run a model of the given size using this approach. Below, I assume 3090 Gigabyte Turbo as costing 1500$, and the T4 as costing 1000$, as those seem to be prices right now. VRAM is roughly the memory required to run the full model.
Model | Server | VRAM | Space | Price | Power |
70B | g4 | 150GB | 4U | 18k$ | 2.8kW |
70B | g3 | 150GB | 6U | 20k$ | 1.1kW |
400B | g4 | 820GB | 20U | 90k$ | 14kW |
400B | g3 | 820GB | 21U | 70k$ | 3.9kW |
Interesting that the g3 + T4 build may actually turn out to be cheaper than the g4 + 3090 for the 400B model! Also, the bills for running it will be significantly smaller, because of the much smaller power usage. It will probably be one idea slower though, because it will require 7 servers as compared to 5, which will introduce a small overhead.
After building the servers, I created a small UI that allows me to create a very simple schema and restrict the output of the model to only return things contained in the document (or options provided by the user). Even a small model like Llama3 8B does shockingly well on parsing invoices for example, and it's also so much faster than GPT-4. You can try it out here:
https://jsonllm.com/share/invoice It is also pretty good for creating very small classifiers, which will be used high-volume. For example, creating a classifier if pets are allowed:
https://jsonllm.com/share/pets . Notice how in the listing that said "No furry friends" (lozenets.txt) it deduced "pets_allowed": "No", while in the one which said "You can come with your dog, too!" it figured out that "pets_allowed": "Yes".
I am in the process of adding API access, so if you want to keep following the project, make sure to sign up on the website.

2024.05.15 17:05 BuddyGuyJr American Boomers Abroad - Boomers in Paris
I'm sure most people have been told that "Europeans do not like Americans" or "Europeans are very rude, especially if you're American" - If you have heard these things, I'm pretty sure a Boomer was the one to tell you that.
Today's story takes place at a café in Paris, France. Pre-COVID - Happier times, maybe.
One night, my wife and I are sitting at a table on a cafe's patio, people watching, drinking Aperol Spritzes and waiting for our croque madam/monsieur.
At the table next to us, two boomer couples sit together. They're long time friends. The wives are extremely excited. It was their first full day in Paris - a trip they've been wanting to go on since they were teenagers. They rehashed their day - getting macarons at Ladurée, walking the Seine, and spending the rest of the day at the Louvre.
The husbands are discussing the opposite. They are curmudgeons. The prices are too high at this café. "20 euros for a cheeseburger!" - They haven't realized that tax is included in all the prices, or that France's food isn't as industrialized as it is in the U.S. One husband pulls a small piece of paper from his wallet with the exchange rates printed on it. "Those cookie sandwiches were pricy too. Did we really need the fancy boxes?".
Thankfully, the women have learned how to tune out their husbands. But this becomes more difficult, for the wives and for the people sitting near them. The husbands are hungry. "The waiter isn't even paying attention to us", says one husband. The other husband raises his hand - "Scuzi. SCUZI!"
The wives stop their debate on which princess/actress from their childhood used Ladurée boxes to store their jewelry. They both turn red, lower their heads, and clutch their Rick Steves guide books. One wife leans over to her husband and whispers "That's Italian. We are in France."
"It's all the same thing here." says the husband, as he waves the server over.
\**Side note. As a husband myself, it can be fun to playfully embarrass your wife. Every married women under 45 has been referred to as "MY WIFE" a la Borat.****
This is where it gets good. We all know, once it gets going, the Boomer can be an unstoppable force. Barreling forward, consuming everything in its path, leaving destruction in its wake, only stopping when it gets what it wants.
The Parisian Server on the other hand can be an unmovable object. If treated with respect, they will go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. If slightly disrespected, well, good luck getting anything.
The server arrives to their table, with a sense of humor. "Si signore" he says.
The husband that waved him over orders for the table. "The ladies will have cheeseburgers and we will have the bacon cheeseburgers. With french fries."
"Okee dokee" says the server in an attempted American accent. He gathers their menus and walks away. "He didn't write anything down. I hope he doesn't screw it up." notes a husband.
The wives go back to excitedly conversing about their trip. One says, "I can't wait to see the Monets tomorrow!". "Ugh. Too blurry" her husband responds.
\**I now say "Too blurry" every time I see a Monet. My poor wife knew I am a forever child when she agreed to marry me****
A little time passes and the server arrives with their order. "OK. Cheeseburgers. Cheeseburgers with bacon. And, FRENCH fries. Or as we say in France, Frites" - One of the wives giggle, and the server leaves.
The couples inspect their meals, as is customary for the Boomer when they receive food. The server placed the bacon cheeseburgers in front of the women and the cheeseburgers in front of the men. Also, there is no ketchup.
"God Dammit. He got it wrong! GAR-SON!!!!" yells a husband. The server arrives, "Oui Monsieur?"
"WE ordered the bacon cheeseburgers. THEY got the cheeseburgers. And there's no ketchup!". "Ah. Oui." the server responds and he proceeds to switch the plates to the appropriate diner. "I go get ketchup" and walks away.
"I knew he was going to screw it up" a husband says. The other husband responds with "He didn't have to be so rude"
The server returns. Both hands full of ketchup packets. Places dozens of the single serving packets on their table. "Voilà! Ketchup!"
Shocked, one husband asks "You don't have a bottle of ketchup?". "No" says the server. "Only ketchup for the children", and leaves.
My wife and I continued to order and drink cheap Aperol Spritzes. Enjoying the shameful show of grown adults opening and emptying numerous ketchup packets on to their food while complaining about anything they can think of.
The Boomers finish, pay, and depart. Leaving a five dollar bill on the table as tip.
The server comes to clean their table. Picks up the five dollar bill and places it on our table. "For good Americans"

2024.05.15 17:00 mattyq25 Central air replacement
Location: Massachusetts
Backstory: We just purchased our house back in October. The current central air unit was installed back in 1993, still works but is wildly inefficient and due to ducting length does not distribute air well (full blast in bedrooms, trickle in living room). The house has a new boiler (kinetics system 2000) for baseboard heat (oil). oil prices, for me, was a shock this winter having moved from a gas furnace down in charlotte, nc.
The house is a split entry style, roughly 2300 sqft. The central air is upstairs, with no ac downstairs. I do not qualify for any mass save programs because we don't have gas running to the house and have local municipal electric (fairly cheap).
I started looking into mini splits, which would have been fine to supplement current AC - but starts to not make sense when looking at multiple heads in each room / multiple condensers to replace the AC outright.
the goal: replace aging central air with a new ducted heat pump + install a mini-split (ductless) downstairs. This would increase overall efficiency of AC upstairs, with the added benefit of supplementing oil heat.
work to be done: Remove and replace old unit with new heat pump (ducted). Air handler would need to be re-positioned because of its size (same location, but turned 90 degrees). Duct work would need to be "fixed" but not fully replaced. New mini split installed downstairs.
Quotes;
Company 1 - Bosch BOVA-36HDN1-M20G + BVA36WN1M20: heat pump / 36k BTU / 20 seer & Mitsubishi MUZ-FS09NA Heat Pump (mini split) / 9k BTU = $35,288
Company 2 - Mitsubishi SVZ-KP36NA + SUZ-KA36NAHZ: heat pump / 36k BTU /16 seer & MSZ-FS12NA heat pump (mini split) / 12k BTU = $36,872
No longer considering full mini-split system, but:
Company 3 (mini splits only) - 4:2 Mitsubishi hyperheat ductless system. MXZ-3C30NAHZ4 +MUZ-GS18NAHZ (condensers) / MSZ-GL15NA-01 + MSZ-GL06NA-01 + MSZ-GL09NA-01 + MSZ-GS18NA indoor units = $31,269
I'm personally leaning towards going full Mitsubishi (company 2) because of the hyperheat - from what i hear, it works great. I think i can get them down to match 35k. But with that said, do these prices seem fair? I have one more company coming out to quote me, but if the trend continues im looking at mid 30's all day. 2024.05.15 16:58 Ok-Vast-5014 The Black Tux HONEST review
| Hello everyone I just want to share my experience with the black tux the good and the bad. Just a little background. My wife and I were set to get married 5/11/24. We started to look into rentals early because we didn’t want to worry about it. So my wife and I wanted to get an off white suit with black (picture attached.) We checked at men’s warehouse and they didn’t have exactly what we wanted. So I did my homework and found The Black Tux. They at the time had overall good reviews and they were promoting some really great things that caught my attention: - They will ship the Tux out 2 weeks ahead incase it doesn’t fit (works great because a lot of my groomsmen were coming in from out of town.)
- If for some reason the suit did not fit, you do have the option to bring it to your own tailor.
- They would prepare your order 25 days ahead of your event to ensure that they have everything set in place.
- You could type in your measurements to get the exact suit that you needed. (I told all of my groomsmen to go to Men’s Wearhouse get their measurements and then input it into the system so that they didn’t have to worry about anything not fitting. I would highly recommend doing this it made life easy.)
- And they had an easy way to add all of your groomsmen and the exact outfit that you want them to wear a really user-friendly program.
- My event was 5/11 and rentals didn’t have to ship out till 5/14. Giving me and my groomsmen a little breathing room.
So because of those reasons, my wife and I decided to move forward and order, not only my suit, but also all the suits for the groomsmen. 11/2024 I ordered the white suit for myself and the rest of the groomsmen had a simple black suit. The expected delivery date for my suit was 5/1/2024. Time passed… all of my groomsmen began to get their suits around the end of April. As the groomsmen got their suits, I told everyone try them on and everybody had their suits fit very well and they looked great! The process was really simple for them to order, input their measurements and get their suits delivered. Some guys waited until the last minute to place their order. Someone order theirs 4/28 and it came 4/30. But then it came to my white suit. Keep in mind order was placed 11/2023 and expected delivery was 5/1/2024… 4/30 I got an email… they say that they do not have my suit jacket in my size. they also said that the only option they have is to go a size up and then try to tailor it in. Now because it was so close to the event, I had no option, but to say yes. They told me that they would expedite my shipment so that it would arrive at my home 5/3/2024 (Friday). Again because it was so close to the event I had no option but to say OK. 5/3/2024 no delivery… now because it was a Friday I decided to give them the weekend and hopefully it would show up by Monday. 5/6/2024 (Monday) no delivery. This is where I begin to get nervous because my wedding is this coming weekend and I have no suit. Immediately I email them and ask them where it is. I also wait 40 minutes on the customer service line hoping to talk to a representative who can give me some answers. After 40 minutes of being on hold and waiting a representative began to tell me that they would unfortunately have to call me back because they do not have access to the warehouse so in other words, they had no idea if my suit had shipped or not. They said they will call me back in an hour. 5/7/2024 (no call back). I called the customer service line again and I say that I will not get off the phone until I have answers. My wedding is this weekend (4 days) and I do not have my wedding suit. Customer service representative says There is truly nothing that can be done. She has no direct line to the warehouse so she has no idea, if the suit is at the warehouse or not, she also couldn’t tell me if they did tailor it. Now, because my wedding was that weekend, I had to make other arrangements and I went to Men’s Wearhouse and they were able to expedite a suit for rental a similar style but most importantly they could guarantee that it would be here before my wedding. So I asked the customer service representative to completely cancel out my order and please send me a refund. She said no problem… 20 minutes after I hung up the phone I got an email saying that my tux had shipped. 5/9/2024 my tux was delivered at my home. Now, because I already had my Men’s Wearhouse tux I knew that I did not even want to open the package. But because of my curiosity I opened the box and tried on the suit just to see if it fit… The suit that they sent me was way too big. My sleeves were hanging past my wrist to the middle of my palm, and the jacket itself was past my waist way too long I would have looked like a fool and their one stipulation is that if you go to a tailor, they cannot cut off fabric. So if I was relying on them solely, I would’ve had a suit that was two sizes too big for one of the biggest moments of my life. The Black tux had dropped the ball with me. 1. They didn’t have my suit prepared 25 days ahead. It was only 1 day before delivery when they started to prepare my suit. 2. Their “promised” delivery dates were continuously wrong with me. 3. Their suit was a terrible fit. 4. I find it extremely odd that their customer service has no connection to their warehouse so they are unable to give updates on orders being shipped out. Summary: If you are planning to purchase or rent a simple tux or suit that is a popular style. You’ll probably have good luck. All of my groomsmen looked great. Their tux came in with plenty of time and they fit on the first go. One of my groomsmen had to call to change his shoes and it was a super easy process for him. If you are planning to get a specialty suit. I would not recommend. It was a disaster. To be completely honest, I will never recommend another service like The Black Tux. Honestly, I would much rather go through Men’s Wearhouse for the exact same or similar price but a lot less headache and a better sense of confidence knowing that my suit or tux will be here. I will highly recommend to everybody to NOT use The Black Tux. P.S. if you do order a rental from Men’s Wearhouse really nice thing is that you can drop the suit off at any location. I didn’t know that before or I would have probably never used The Black Tux to begin with. submitted by Ok-Vast-5014 to weddingplanning [link] [comments] |
2024.05.15 16:56 Ghostgrl94 I don’t know how much longer I can take it
I work in a clinic cafe as a cashier but since February my mental health has taken a nose dive of the nearest cliff. I used to take lunch at 11 which was my 30 minute break in the middle of my shift but they gave that to the new guy and now my lunch is 1 pm. That wouldn’t be so bad but before my coworker would come and give me a people break where I’d go and stock the coolers but now I’m out with people 90% of my shift and I’m just so close to either going to punch someone in the face or have a mental breakdown in the middle of the cafe. I can’t just get up and take a break because there is literally nobody to watch the register. I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna last. I make 15.50 and this is THE only place that pays well and it took them 3 months to hire me. The HR is NOTORIOUS for being slow. I’m currently taking Phlebotomy and (yes I know it’s just as bad people wise but it’s only a stepping stone) a CNA course so that if I take a program that’s mid day I can still have a home and not be homeless (I also have 3 furbabies at home to feed)
Also I want to add that we are THE cheapest place you can get food and visitors always rave at how cheap and good the food is. Meanwhile the people who work in the clinic complain about the price like our EIGHTY FIVE (85) CENT bread. Or like today someone got 2 bagel toppers ($2 each) and 4 bacon ($1 each) and when brought out the menu either the price after she complained she she I’m not gonna argue with her. IF YOU DONT WANNA ARGUE THEN DONT DYARY NOTHIN!! I’m sick and tired of them but I have bills and classes to pay for.

2024.05.15 16:47 Sawyer4815 Advice on a budget AM5 motherboard
Hi I'm building a PC for 1080p gaming and I'm on a relatively tight budget, I looked around for good cheap motherboards and it seems the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 is well reviewed, do you have othebetter suggestions in that price range? The system will have a Ryzen 5 7600 CPU and an Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU (I know there are better AMD options in that price range but it has to be Nvidia for stuff I do at work) Thanks for the advice!

2024.05.15 16:44 MoonshineMaven Concert Fees
I know this is a topic that people have beaten to death but I just can’t get over how much concert going has changed in my lifetime and it makes me sad that young people are being priced out of such an amazing experience. For reference I’m 30 years old and have gone to a pretty large number of shows and festivals throughout my lifetime as it’s one of my favorite things to do. I vividly remember being in middle and high school going to shows for dirt cheap. I think the most I paid for a concert ticket in high school was back in 2010 for $80 and it was a massive homecoming concert that featured California Swag District, Chrisette Michele, J. Cole who brought out Petey Pablo, Rick Ross, Drake and a host of other special guests from around that time so to say it was a bargain doesn’t even cover it. Flash forward to 2024 I just got the Amex pre sale tickets for Childish Gambino and they were $730 for two tickets and almost $300 of that was just fees. I’ve paid less to attend camping festivals and I just don’t see how this is sustainable long term. Going to shows used to be such a fun thing to do with friends but $730 is almost what we pay a month for our HOUSE so it’s crazy to me that we have hit a point where people are having to drop rent/mortgage money to see a live show. I’ve also noticed all the new financing options on ticket websites like Klarna and Afterpay, like are we really at the point where people have to finance tickets just to enjoy live music!?

2024.05.15 16:41 MKID1989 PC stuck in restart loop

2024.05.15 16:37 bambi_beth Juglans nigra eastern black walnut experiences
Some enterprising squirrels or other have provided me with two or three eastern black walnut seedlings. I do not want to manage juglone resistant planting in my yard BUT - I have been managing invasive plants and rewilding an uncared for a paper street and publicly owned right of way adjacent to my property. In this area free/cheap is a very good price to bulk out the woodland habitats. What concerns should I have with transplanting these black walnut seedlings to the more forested areas? Thanks all!!!

2024.05.15 16:24 BIGTUNAMANN Watch out for the Trolls…
I was just checking the daily thread and saw a lot of negativity from several accounts. I dug a bit deeper and, lo and behold, found an account created three years ago with similar comments from previous run-ups. Remember, the hedge funds will do anything to push the price down, and scaring you into selling is the easiest way for them to get what they need. It’s super cheap for them to put out articles, make accounts, etc. to try and deflate this. I wouldn’t be surprised if this dip is the first highly coordinated attack to shake confidence because they’re scared.
Just trust in the process; there are always going to be dips like this before we take off. Happy to be in this with all my brothers and sisters. Go GME! 🫡🫡🫡

2024.05.15 16:23 Murky_waterLLC The Greatest Congame in the History of the Universe (Part 1.6)
[First] [Prev] Dialog Key: [Translated]: Dates, Units of Measurement, or other Grammatical terms will be retrofitted to be legible for readers while still staying true to their definition {Exposition}: Immediate context regarding events, People, Entities, or other key points that allow for understanding amongst different cultures. ...In the sudden gap of power, the Humans were asked to take on this position, which they agreed. And suddenly the Humans, and all of their political experience and philosophies, made their way onto the Galactic council. Now, whether it was planned or sheer dumb luck that a Council member would be evicted just in time for the Corpo’s plan to work is still up for debate, but nevertheless, The Terran Conglomerate’s Position on the Galactic Council was the final lunch pin that solidified the clauses of the Commercial Pacts provided by these Human Corporations, Identifying a "Corporatocracy" as a legitimate form of government; and The Terran Trust was, by all definitions, a functioning, advanced, Interstellar empire.
Of course, the Council was having none of it at this point and attempted to go ahead with the Charter of Worker’s Rights, trying to complete it before the Terran Trust could join the Galactic Community and legally be allowed to vote in the Senate. However, problems kept popping up for the council, slowing down and delaying the charter. Some Empires wanted to rewrite certain clauses after the final drafts were written. Changing opinions and delegations slowed the process to a crawl, and no matter how hard they tried, the Galactic Community couldn’t do the same for the acceptance of the Terran Trust. This was mostly due to the fact that there was no real process of introduction into the Galactic Community outside of the previously mentioned “List” which, as all Humans know, “Wasn’t really necessary to join”.
Basically, all you needed to do was apply and you’d be accepted at this point. With the list declared Pointless, there was no real process for joining outside of a basic screening to make sure you weren’t a case of death cultists or fanatic purifiers. And since the Terran Trust was neither, there was only so much the Galactic Council could do to delay their entry. And when they did join, well, that only made things worse. Now with official Trust embassies in nearly every non-council member capital world, it made it worlds easier for these Corpos to force their will on others. Using their vast swaths of cash to bribe government officials out of their own agendas and ambitions, and if they refused?
Well, being a recognized nation now, the Trust could enforce embargos and trade blockades in Empire territories. And it's not like these other Nations could break them with their own military because they didn’t have their own militaries. They had PMCs, Human PMCs, worlds more effective and powerful than any conventional alien military and only costing roughly the same price. The biggest downside to these PMCs is that they’re not loyal, all it takes is a bigger bank account to completely flip the ideologies of these Mercenaries. Blinded by money, a common scenario seen throughout those who resisted the Corpo’s will would have their own Mercenary garrisons completely block imports and exports between planets or entire systems, starving the very people they were paid to protect.
Without any real power left in their hands, the Empires of the Galaxy capitulated, agreeing to whatever demands the Corporations might have. And, as always, the Corpos made them sign a contract. This time, though, they read the fine print, not that they could change anything or make any demands, but if nothing else to show that they were now taking these contracts seriously.
And just like that, the Human Megacorps had won. They had the entire galaxy under their thumbs, every last sentient was now under the employment of the Terran Trust, who effectively, but not officially, vassalized the rest of the galactic powers through the force of financial superiority.
And the Humans themselves? Well, any human outside of Conglomerate space met a similar fate to everyone else… unless they were a Corpo. It wasn’t a rare sight to see a Ce’davi Manager berating a Human twice their size. Meanwhile, the opposite was true within human space! As it turns out, having the Headquarters for a Galaxy-spanning Megacorporation tends to bring in a lot of material wealth. The denizens of the Terran Conglomerate found themselves living in abject luxury, barely having to work a day in their life because of how cheap everything was. Oh, and they never stopped fighting… well… technically.
You see, the Humans, as untrusting as they are, knew they could never stop advancing their tech, lest the other guy get better at fighting than them. But, the Humans also knew how expensive wars were to maintain, even if they did produce technological marvels and martial jobs in their wake. So, they found a compromise. Once they had felt like they hit a tech ceiling on how deadly they could make some of their weapons they switched to simulations on their tech. They had dozens of different AIs strategize and blow each other up in the virtual realm hundreds of times over, and then publish their unorthodox tactics in textbooks for future generations of military strategists.
All in all, it seemed like the Humans had won, their drive for competition dominated us in ways we could never predict, and we only hoped their Prerogative was satiated now.
