2024.02.10 00:02 acekingoffsuit The 20 Worst Shows in WCW History (according to Cagematch) and Why They're So Hated

Wrestling history is filled with matches and events that aren't well-liked. Some of them have faded into relative obscurity, while others have reached incredible levels of infamy. I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of these cards to relive the moments we all wish we could forget and rehash the ones that we blotted out of our collective memories.
My source for this list is the "Flop 100" from Cagematch, an IMDB-like site for wrestling events. The site gained a bit of notoriety in recent months when AEW owner Tony Khan cited its user ratings as a metric of AEW's success. That led to Cagematch Discourse, which virtually guaranteed that I had to see this project through.
This list covers all of WCW's weekly episodes, major events, and PPVs which were broadcasted in some form. If you want to see WWE's 20 lowest rated events, you can check out my write-up here
To give you an idea about how things are gonna go, the January 4, 1999 Nitro featured Tony Schiavonne spoiling Mick Foley's title win and dismissively saying "that'll put butts in the seats." It ended with the infamous "Fingerpoke of Doom" where feuding NWO factions reunited around Hulk Hogan. Yet that scored a 3.36, only good enough for 26th worst in WCW history.
Buckle up.
Cagematch ratings accurate as of February 7, 2024, and are on a scale of 0 to 10
#20: Bash at the Beach 2000 (July 9, 2000) - 3.18
There's a lot that happened at Bash at the Beach 2000. Vampiro and The Demon fought in a Graveyard Match that was so poorly lit that viewers couldn't see anything, and Goldberg unnofficially ended Scott Hall's WCW career by beating Kevin Nash for control of Hall's contract and ripping it up afterwards (Hall had made his final appearance months prior). But it's what happened around the World Heavyweight Championship that is remembered the most about this night.
Hulk Hogan was set to defend his title against Jeff Jarrett. Vince Russo wanted Hogan to drop the title, but Hogan - who had creative control over his character - wanted to win and retain. They negotiated a solution: Jarrett would lay down immediately for Hogan, who would win the match and storm off. Russo would then nullify the match, 'fire' Hogan, and announce a new main event of Jarrett vs Booker T. Hogan would return a few months down the line to reclaim 'his title.' And that's exactly what happened... except when Russo announced the new title match, he said some things about Hogan that (allegedly) had not been cleared beforehand. This led Hogan to actually leave the company and file a lawsuit against Russo, claiming among other things that Russo's promo was an act of defamation and false light invasion of privacy.
By the way, get used to seeing the number 2000. Of the 20 events on this list, nine took place took place that year.
#19: Clash of the Champions V: St. Valentine's Massacre (Feb. 15, 1989) - 3.15
While it's unfair to compare them to big post per views, the Clash of the Champions events were typically good for one or two marquee matches. That's not the case for Clash V, which wasn't its own event as much as it was a table-setter for the Chi-Town Rumble pay per view just five days later.
There were a couple of bright spots, including a big brawl to end the show after the main event face team of Sting, Junk Yard Dog, and Michael Hayes broke out of a padlocked room. But the big problem with Clash V was that most of the rest of the night was filler. The bulk of the card pitted a big name on the Rumble card against... someone of lesser acclaim. Ricky Steamboat and Rick Steiner faced Bob Bradley and Rip Morgan respectively . What's worse, some of these were much longer than need be - Butch Reed vs Steven Casey and Lex Luger vs The Blackmailer went a combined 31 minutes!
Chi-Town Rumble is still remembered fondly today thanks in large part to its all-time great main event, where Ricky Steamboat beat Ric Flair to win the 10 Pounds of Gold. Clash V... eh, not so much.
#18: Starrcade 1991: The Lethal Lottery (Dec. 29, 1991) - 3.09
Trying out a risky new idea could lead to a huge success. Trying out a risky new idea can also lead to a huge failure. Unfortunately, Starrcade '91 was much closer to the latter than the former.
The cornerstone of this event was the BattleBowl. And by cornerstone, I mean that every single match on the card was part of it. Forty men were drawn into 20 randomly-created tag teams, which were paired off in 10 randomly-created matches. The winners of each match would advance to the 20-man Battle Royal main event, and the winner of that match would earn a title shot at Superbrawl II.
You might be thinking that ten matches of "can they coexist?" might sound like a lot... and it was. WCW would run smaller versions of the format at Starrcade '92 and BattleBowl '93. But hey, at least this edition gave us such classics as Johnny B. Badd & Arachnaman (Brad Armstrong as Kirkland's Spiderman) vs Scott Steiner & Firebreaker Chip.
#17: Road Wild 1999 (Aug. 14, 1999) - 2.91
Road Wild '99 isn't really seen as an all-time worst pay per view, and none of its moments are really seen as all-time stinkers. More than half of all of Cagematch's ratings place this at a 3, with less than 10% of votes landing at a 1 or 0 and only a single vote going above a 4. From top to bottom, this show pretty much falls into the category of 'not good, but not offensively terrible.'
The main event was, for better or worse, a classic Hulk Hogan match. And by classic, I mean classic. He donned the red and yellow for one of (if not the) first times in over three years. He defended the World Heavyweight Title against Kevin Nash, who would be forced to retire if he lost. Hogan won to send the bikers home happy, and Nash rode off into retirement... for less than two months.
#16: Halloween Havoc 1995 (Oct. 29, 1995) - 2.88
WCW were clearly trying to channel WrestleMania III on this night. The main event pitted World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan vs a debuting Giant (a young "Big Show" Paul Wight) who was heavily implied to be the son of Andre. But while Hogan vs Andre was a seminal moment in wrestling history, this was one most people try to forget.
The pair actually had two clashes that night. The first was a Monster Truck Sumo match atop the arena where the pair drove actual monster trucks placed nose to nose and pushed each other back and forth. For nearly five minutes. Immediately afterwards, they brawled near the edge of the arena roof until The Giant fell off to his apparent death. Don't worry, he got better in time for the main event.
Even if you set all of that aside, the ending of the wrestling match was a mess. It consisted of a Jimmy Hart heel turn, a Giant bearhug of Hogan that looked pretty sexual, THE YET-TAY, a Lex Luger heel turn, a Giant & Yeti double bearhug of Hogan that looked really sexual, and the reveal that the Giant won the title via disqualification thanks to a contract clause inserted by Jimmy Hart.
If you need a visual aid to keep track of all that, you can watch the whole saga here.
#15: Monday Nitro #262 (Sep. 25, 2000) - 2.82
If you're wondering what would have to happen on a random Nitro to place it on the list of worst events in WCW history, wonder no more.
The main event of the night was a cage match for the WCW World Heavyweight Title. While Booker T was leaving the cage to secure the win, Goldberg appeared inside and delivered a vicious spear to Booker's opponent through the cage wall. This let the challenger escape the cage first, giving him the win and the title.
That is how Vince Russo became World Heavyweight Champion.
#14: Starrcade 1994 (Dec. 27, 1994) - 2.66
Starrcade is often thought of as WCW's biggest event of the year, along the lines of what WrestleMania is to WWE. Ideally the biggest card of the year would have the biggest main event. Starrcade '94 had three matches billed as main events including Vader vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan for the US Title and Sting vs Avalanche. But the final main event, the real main event, featured WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan.
Hulk's opponent: The Butcher. Ed Leslie. The former Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake. The future Man With No Name, Zodiac, Booty Man, and Disciple.
#13: Thunder #110 (May 3, 2000) - 2.64
Question 1: This episode of Thunder was:
  • A. The go-home show before Slamboree
  • B. A night where every match would pit the Millionaire's Club against the New Blood
  • C. New York Rules night, where there would be no rules, no referees, and wrestlers had to count their own pins
  • D: Main evented by a 22-man Battle Royal that featured run-ins by more than 15 people.
  • E. All of the above
The correct answer is E. It's always E.
Despite all of the goofiness here, this episode of Thunder was received much, MUCH more positively than the previous week's episode. But more on that later. (If you don't want to get spoiled, don't look up who was World Heavyweight Champion at the time and don't skip ahead to #1 on this list.)
#12: New Blood Rising (Aug. 13, 2000) - 2.56
Sometimes, less is more. Here is a simple list of some of the things that happened at New Blood Rising. None of these things really need additional context to explain why this event made the list.
  • After a mud wrestling match between Major Gunns and Miss Hancock, Miss Hancock clutched her abdomen in apparent agony due to a heavily-implied miscarriage. The announcers tried to sell as a real, unscripted happening.
  • Buff Bagwell beat Chris Kanyon in a Judy Bagwell on a Forklift match.
  • Sting beat The Demon in less than a minute.
  • Buff Bagwell beat Chris Kanyon in a Judy Bagwell on a Forklift match.
  • Goldberg abruptly walked out of his match with Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash, Goldberg was about to receive a Jackknife from Nash but Goldberg slipped out and stormed off, arguing with Vince Russo along the way. The announcers tried to sell as a real, unscripted happening, even praising Steiner for sticking to the script. Goldberg's refusal to 'stick to the script' was used as a selling point for the next pay per view, Fall Brawl.
  • Buff Bagwell beat Chris Kanyon in a Judy Bagwell on a Forklift match.
#11: SuperBrawl 2000 (Feb. 20, 2000) - 2.53
What's not to love? Between Tank Abbott holding a knife up to his opponent's throat (and Mark Madden attempting to play it off as shaving), Booker T and Big T (fka Ahmed Johnson) fighting for the right to the letter T, and an 8-minute main event that featured four different refs getting knocked out, there's something for everybody here.
Fun fact: The 4th match on this 11-match was a "Special Main Event" between The Wall and The Demon, formerly known as The KISS Demon. The main event billing was due to WCW's license deal with KISS, which required that the Demon get at least one main event match on a PPV event. Reception to the character was poor - its debut segment was among the lowest-rated in Nitro history to that point - so instead of a huge match at the end of the card, The Demon got chokeslammed and beat by a midcarder in less than 4 minutes.
#10: Great American Bash 1991 (July 14, 1991) - 2.38
For all the hoopla about "We Want Cody," the fans could at least still see Cody on the card. Those who chanted "We Want Flair" in 1991 had no such relief.
Bash '91 featured one of the most boring scaffold matches in history and a supposed mixed-tag cage match main event that got scrapped the day of the event because the state athletics commission wouldn't allow it. Those matches didn't help, but the real reason this card is on the list is because of the mess surrounding the title picture.
Ric Flair was supposed to defend his WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Lex Luger in a big, big match. But less than two weeks before the event, Flair was fired from the company and stripped of the title over a contract dispute. Instead, Luger fought Barry Windham for the belt. Fans chanted "we want Flair" throughout the night.
Slight correction: Luger and Windham fought for a belt. Specifically, one of the tag team title belts with a cheap plate slapped onto it. The Big Gold belt remained with Flair because WCW refused to refund his $10,000 deposit. Flair took the belt with him to WWF two months later, where Bobby Heenan proclaimed him to be the real World's Heavyweight Champion.
#9: Uncensored 2000 (Mar. 19, 2000) - 2.19
Late-stage WCW often struggled to hit its stride creatively, even at the best of times. When you add a change in creative leadership and some key absences to the mix, your chances of winning a good show drastic go down.
Uncensored 2000 came at an odd time for WCW. Vince Russo had been ousted from running creative but had not yet been brought back for the Russo/Bischoff era, leaving Kevin Sullivan in charge creatively. The Taskmaster’s task was made all the more difficult by a rash of absences; Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Bret Hart, Goldberg, Randy Savage, The Radical, and Scott Steiner were all either gone or out of action for one reason or another.
As for the event itself, Wrestling with Wregret’s Brian Zane described the night in his review as “a series of tiny trainwrecks.” There weren't any all-time stinkers to be found here. There were lots of run-ins and lots of unclean finishes as usual. The main event, the YAPPAPAI Indian Strap Match between Hogan and Flair, was more memorable for Hogan’s promos in the build-up than anything that happened in the ring. What damned Uncensored 2000 was that, while nothing was horrible, pretty much everything was bad.
#8: Uncensored 1995 (Mar. 19, 1995) - 2.17
"No Rules! No Mercy!" Those were the words on the front of the VHS sleeve for Uncensored 1995. Those words also weren't very apt, as the match between "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Avalanche ended in a DQ.
There were a lot of silly things going on here. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan faced Meng in a Martial Arts match, which was as good as it sounds. Arn Anderson faced Johnny B. Badd in a Wrestler vs Boxer match where the wrestler could win by wrestling and the boxer could win by boxing. In the main event, Hulk Hogan dragged Ric Flair around the ring and touched all four corners to win his Strap Match... against Vader.
Perhaps the night's opening contest was a harbinger of things to come since both men ended up getting fired immediately afterwards. The Blacktop Bully (aka Barry Darsow) fought Dustin Rhodes in a King of the Road match that got both men fired. Bully and Rhodes both bladed to make the match - which took place on the bed of a massive truck driving down the road - look more brutal. The only problem: WCW did not allow blading. At all. Both men were quickly dismissed for their stunt.
#7: Great American Bash 1999 (June 13, 1999) - 2.10
Great American Bash ‘99 had quite a few of the issues that were common throughout WCW’s late days, including lots of interference and a refusal to let a main event end with a clean finish. But two matches in particular highlighted some of the things that made the company so frustrating to follow at the time.
You want swerves for the sake of swerves? President Ric Flair and Commissioner Roddy Piper had a match for control of WCW. The match was immediately rendered pointless when, 30 seconds after Flair’s DQ win, Piper turned heel and aligned with Flair.
You want wonky finishes? The end of Rick Steiner’s Falls Count Anywhere US Title defense against Sting was extra wonky. The moment the pair went backstage, the camera showed a (clearly pre-recorded) attack on Sting by Tank Abbott, both Steiner Brothers, and three dogs. Moments later, the Steiners returned to the ring and said that Rick pinned Sting, but the attack was too graphic to show on screen, making this one of the first matches in history to end via Trust Me, Bro.
#6: Halloween Havoc 2000 (Oct. 29, 2000) - 2.04
A Sting vs Jeff Jarrett match involved a run-in from a fake Sting. Actually, that's a typo. A Sting vs Jeff Jarrett match involved seven run-ins from six separate fake Stings. To be fair, each of the Stings represented a different era of the Stinger's career to that point, from the bleached-blonde, neon facepaint era to the black-and-white Crow era. A good idea on paper, but perhaps not in execution.
Much of the rest of the card probably couldn't even be described as good ideas on paper. There was the kickboxing match for the WCW commissionership (which was effectively a belt at this point) between Earnest "The Cat" Miller and "Above Average" Mike Sanders, Lex Luger returning from a months-long absence only to immediately turn heel, a DNA First Blood match between David Flair and Buff Bagwell to determine who fathered Miss Hancock's child, and a main event where Goldberg squashed a tag team.
#5: Uncensored 1996 (Mar. 24, 1996) - 2.01
Hulk Hogan made a career out of being wrestling's great hero, slaying the largest of giants and overcoming the greatest of odds. By the time Uncensored 1996 rolled around, this had been his character for 12 years straight. A growing segment of fans were becoming sick of seeing Hogan in that role, and this pay-per-view did nothing to quell that part of the fanbase.
Uncensored's main event was the infamous Doomsday Cage Match, an eight-on-two handicap match that pitted Hogan and Randy Savage against the Alliance to End Hulkamania. The heel team was composed of the Four Hoursemen (Ric Flair & Arn Anderson), the Dungeon of Doom (Meng, Barbarian, Taskmaster, and Lex Luger), Z-Gangsta (Tommy Lister Jr., aka Zeus of No Holds Barred fame), and the Ultimate Solution (Robert "Jeep" Swenson, who was originally billed as the Final Solution before Jewish viewers pointed out that naming a wrestler after Hitler's codename for the Holocaust was probably a bad move). Hogan and Savage won, of course, thanks to an assist from the Booty Man (Ed Leslie/Brutus Beefcake/Zodiac/etc.) and his frying pans.
There wouldn't be many more chances to see Hogan as a babyface after this. Just three months later he threw away the red and yellow and, with a little help from a couple of Outsiders, changed the wrestling world.
#4: Monday Nitro #182 (Mar. 8, 1999) - 1.79
If a show is ranked poorly, often times it's because of what happened at the end of the show. In the case of the March 8, 1999 episode of Monday Nitro, the low rating is due to what happened at the beginning of the program. Or, more specifically, what didn't happen. Viewers who tuned in saw no in-ring action for the first hour of the show. There were no matches, obviously, but there were no in-ring promos either. Viewers didn't even get the big pyro intro to the show.
What they did get was a lot of pre-recorded material, much of which involved people talking about David Flair. There was a pre-recorded Ric Flair segment (which had already aired on Thunder), a pre-recorded Hulk Hogan promo (which had also already aired on Thunder), a pre-recorded clip of Hogan and Kevin Nash watching a Ric Flair promo, a Nitro Girl get-to-know-her segment, multiple clips from a Nitro Party (remember Nitro Parties?), Konnan's music video for "Bow Wow Wow," a Lex Luger promo package, a couple more pre-recorded segments involving Hogan and Nash, and some Buff Bagwell and Scott Steiner shenanigans with security.
At the almost-hour mark, we finally see the inside of the arena and get the opening pyro. At that point, we're ready to kick things off for real... with a David Flair in-ring promo. Goldberg interrupts things a couple of minutes later and ends up in a staredown with Ric, but by this point there's a good chance that you've already flipped the channel to the start of Monday Night Raw.
#3: Bash at the Beach 1999 (July 11, 1999) - 1.73
Bash at the Beach '99 doesn't have one big moment where everyone can point to it and say 'yep, that's why this show sucked.' It did, however, have a whole lot of things that would make someone think 'yep, that's late-stage WCW:'
  • Buff Bagwell beat Roddy Piper in a boxing match. By hitting a wrestling move.
  • David Flair successfully defended his US title against Dean Malenko in a sub-four-minute match. With four run-ins.
  • The No-Limit Soldiers beat the West Texas Rednecks in an elimination tag match. Swoll, one of the two surviving members of the winning team, wrestled just 7 matches for the company in less than 3 months and made a reported $400,000.
  • Fit Finlay won an outdoor Junkyard Invitational match. The match legitimately injured nearly everyone involved, yet viewers couldn't tell because the lighting was so poor that viewers couldn't make much out.
#2: Great American Bash 2000 (June 11, 2000) - 1.72
In the buildup to what would be WCW's final Great American Bash, Eric Bischoff promised there would be a huge surprise that would change the world of sports entertainment. WCW needed a momentum shift, so who knows? Maybe this could be it. The huge surprise was revealed during the main event, a match between Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash for the World Heavyweight Championship. Nash was on the wrong side of the numbers game for most of the match thanks to Bischoff's chronies Ernest "The Cat" Miller and the Filthy Animals... but then Goldberg appeared!... but then Goldberg speared Nash and turned heel! The fans were not happy.
The rest of the card preceeding the main event didn't help either, with the most infamous of these encounters being a Human Torch Match between Vampiro and Sting. The pair battled atop the TurnerTron until the flickering lights went out. The lights returned moments later, just in time to see Vampiro set the totally-not-a-stuntman-who-swapped-into-Sting's-spot-during-the-blackout Sting ablaze and watch him fall to the floor below.
#1: Thunder #109 (Apr. 26, 2000) - 0.56
This was, for the most part, a regular episode of Thunder. Recaps of Nitro, lots of short matches (four of the six undercard matches went less than three-and-a-half minutes) - you know, nothing out of the ordinary. Until the main event, that is, where WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page put his title on the line in a tag match. He teamed with Ready To Rumble star David Arquette to face Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff, and whoever scored the pinfall would become champion. If you don't know how this ended, I'll let Tony Schiavonne's commentary after the bell fill you in:
"Did David Arquette just-... David Arquette won the world title. David Arquette won the world title! David Arquette won the world title! Did David Arquette just win the world title? Did I see that? David Arquette just- He's got the belt! David Arquette's the world- David Arquette's the wor- I'm gonna say it again because I don't believe it: DAVID ARQUETTE IS THE WORLD CHAMPION!"
Arquette celebrated his victory - one that was contractually obligated due to his Ready To Rumble deal - with pyro aplenty. DDP celebrated with Arquette despite just losing the title to Arquette. And even though the storyline ended with a David Arquette heel turn (because why the hell not), some good came of it: he donated his pay to the families of Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Bobby Duncam, Jr., and Darren Drozdov.

2024.02.07 07:19 InfernoAA The Ultimate Dead Royal Rumble (dir. Corey Youngblood)

At first glance, this seems like a pretty simple Rumble. All you really have to do is pick your favorite wrestler who happens to be dead, like the one you watched growing up and really took to, give him a favorable spot and have him win the Rumble. It's simple, right?
Well... for me its a bit more complicated than that.
Because my favorite wrestler growing up who is now dead is... um....

Entrant #1: Chris Benoit

.... Oh my gosh, I'm not actually gonna do this am I?
Let's find out.

AND LFG

Entrant #2: Eddie Guerrero

Chris Benoit and Eddie start out and Chris Benoit collapses to his knees as he watches his best friend walk down to the ring. Eddie enters the ring and Chris Benoit immediately embraces him, telling Eddie how much he has missed him, how much he loves him, how sorry he is for their shitty match at ECW One Night Stand. Eddie tells Benoit that it's okay, he has missed Benoit and he loves him too.
"So Chris, how's that wife and kid?"
"....."
Chris Benoit chops Eddie hard to avoid having to answer that question and this match is underway. Eddie and Benoit trade armdrags and then suplexes with Eddie scoring two Amigos before Benoit is able to drop down behind and score three German Suplexes. Benoit cuts his throat and ascends to the top turnbuckle for the Diving Headbutt only for Eddie to roll to the other side of the ring and to the floor. Benoit steps down from the turnbuckle as Eddie pats himself on the back outside only to be wiped out by a Chris Benoit suicide dive.

Entrant #3: Owen Hart

It would be in really poor taste to have Owen Hart zipline into the ring, wouldn't it?
Owen Hart charges in a house on fire, meeting Eddie and Benoit at ringside and dropping Benoit with a European Uppercut. Owen throws Benoit and Eddie in the ring and joins them, ducking a clothesline by Benoit and dropping Eddie with a Dropkick. Benoit chops Owen but Owen chops back, ducks another shot by Benoit and drops the Rabid Wolverine with a German Suplex of his own. Eddie charges in and catches Owen's leg only for Owen to drop him with an Enzuigiri. Owen keeps up the attack on Eddie only for Benoit to peel him away and back the King of Harts into the east side turnbuckle. Benoit shoots Owen off only for Owen to leap onto the adjacent turnbuckle and fly off with a Reverse Crossbody taking out both Benoit and Guerrero

Entrant #4: Jim Neidhart

Okay, listen, I have a list of thirty dead guys and I'm just kinda entering them in randomly outside of Benoit and Guerrero. I got Owen and Jim Neidhart back to back at complete random.
That's kinda cool.
Anyway.
Jim Neidhart hits the ring and assists Owen in laying the Smackdown! on the Two Amigos. The Hart Foundation is kinda set up to be heels here since purgatory isn't in Canada. Anyway, they are getting heat on Eddie and Benoit to make them look more sympathetic. For Eddie it works, for Benoit its a little tougher because, you know... murder.
Despite this, Eddie gets his knees up on the Rocket Launcher and he and Benoit begin to mount a comeback with a pair of Double Suplexes on Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart. This whole thing breaks down into a huge chop battle between the four men as Entrant #5 enters.

Entrant #5: Rick Rude

OH MY???
Rick Rude enters, looking stachier than ever, mullet flowing in the wind as he performs his full entrance, complete with robe as the four other competitors look on in awe. Is Bobby Heenan there? Sure! He's dead. He can be there.
Anyway, Rick Rude gets a microphone and brags about banging angels in heaven while the four men in the ring are a bunch of sweathogs who can't get a date...
Especially you, Benoit.
Rick Rude enters the ring and tells the four to pipe down as he removes his robe for the ladies. Rick Rude removes the robe and is immediately pummeled by all four men and subsequently thrown from the ring for the first elimination.

Entrant #6: Mr. Perfect

Mr. Perfect enters the Rumble after catching a towel from behind his back as dead Bobby Heenan joins dead Gorilla Monsoon on dead commentary. Gorilla Monsoon states Mr. Perfect last competed in a Rumble in 2002 and is back for more. Heenan claims Mr. Perfect is his new pick and claims Mr. Perfect beat the piss out of Brock Lesnar and can surely beat 29 other Legends.
Mr. Perfect enters the ring and is targeted by Owen and Jim Neidhart. The two move to throw Mr. Perfect out multiple times but each time Mr. Perfect manages to evade elimination by skinning the cat or very slyly slipping back between the ropes. Eddie and Benoit target Neidhart leaving Owen and Hennig in a one on one for the time being.

Entrant #7: Sean O'Haire

Sean O'Haire is dead, and he's also in this Rumble. Sean O'Haire claims to be an advocate from Hell and tries convincing women in the crowd to flash him their titties, men in the crowd not to pay taxes, and all dead people in attendance to vote Democrat. Sean O'Haire gets in the ring and joins the Benoit/Guerrero alliance because he sees Eddie as a lying, cheating and stealing role model.

Entrant #8: Roddy Piper

Okay this one wasn't random, but I can't have Andre The Giant in this early.
Roddy Piper comes down to the ring and Sean O'Haire goes for a high five.
"Mr. Piper! We teamed together before, right?"
"We did?"
"Yeah! We were a tag team in Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain, right?"
"We were?"
"Yeah! Now help me eliminate..."
"You got it!"
Roddy Piper grabs Sean O'Haire by the scruff of the neck and throws him out of the Rumble, standing tall in the ring, looking down at his former protege.
"I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum!"

Entrant #9: Junkyard Dog

What the dog doin? Don't know.
JYD comes down to the ring in 1981 Mid South shape and just starts thumping and bumping all competitors, culminating with a huge body slam to Jim Neidhart sending him over the rope and out to the floor, eliminated.
That's what he gets for bringing Natalya into this world...
Owen Hart dropkicks Dog from behind and JYD is sent over the rope as well but manages to hang on, headbutting Owen back into the ring and saving himself from elimination.

Entrant #10: Brodie Lee/Luke Harper

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!
Brodie Lee storms down the ramp in Wyatt Family gear and starts dishing out Lariats like there's no tomorrow before coming face to face with Chris Benoit. Benoit cuts his throat and the two go at it with chops and punches before Benoit lands a stiff Headbutt only for Brodie to come roaring back with the Discus Lariat.

Entrant #11: The Iron Sheik

"I ONLY GOT NUMBER 11 IN THE RUMBLE??? FAWKIN BULLSHIT!"
Sheiky baby makes his way down to the ring in a foul mood but is immediately eliminated by Mr. Perfect with a clothesline.
"GO FAWK YOURSELF CURT HENNIG YOUR SON IS A DUMB PIECE OF SHIT SON OF A BITCH!"
Iron Sheik walks up the ramp and goes into the pit where dead Mean Gene Okerlund is waiting with a microphone.
"Iron Sheik, my gosh you barely lasted two seconds in the Royal Rumble! That has to be some sort of record."
"FAWK THE ROYAL RUMBLE! FAWK MY RECORD! YOU SEE THIS TURKEY? THIS TURKEY IS THE ROYAL RUMBLE RECORD... ACH-TUNG!"

Entrant #12: Yokozuna

Former Rumble winner Yokozuna enters the ring with dead Mr. Fuji by his side and Bobby Heenan wonders aloud how anyone will be able to eliminate Yokozuna! Yoko gets in the ring and various wrestlers bounce off of him except for Junkyard Dog who brings the fight to Yoko, staggering the grand master into the ropes. Yoko rebounds and walks right into a massive scoop slam from JYD who has all the dogs barking.
JYD stalks Yoko on the ground now and scrambles in with a series of headbutts before Owen Hart hops on Dog's back with a sleeper hold. JYD muscles up and manages to dump Owen out to the apron, only to be met with a Shuffle Side Kick from Yoko sending Dog over the rope and out to the floor as Owen tugs the top rope down to ensure Dog's elimination. Owen scrambles back in the ring and hugs his former tag team partner as the two now pair up with control of the ring.

Entrant #13: New Jack

New Jack enters with the Hulk hands so you know he means business.
Just kidding, New Jack enters and stabs almost everyone.
With all competitors down, New Jack points to the ceiling and a scaffold begins to descend from the rafters. Owen Hart is the only man not to be stabbed by New Jack and he does not want to join them, so Owen begins climbing the scaffold with New Jack in hot pursuit. Owen finds himself on top of the scaffolding with New Jack...
... it would be in poor taste to...
Yes, yes it would.
New Jack goes to stab Owen but Owen counters the attack and turns the blade on New Jack, impaling the Gangsta and sending him tumbling off the scaffold through multiple tables on the outside.

Entrant #14: Brian Pillman

The cool Brian Pillman enters the Rumble and chases up the scaffold after his good friend Owen as he helps Owen climb back down to safety in the ring. Brian goes to attack Yokozuna but Owen stops him and the three enjoy a fragile alliance and go around attacking Benoit, Eddie, Mr. Perfect, Roddy Piper and Brodie Lee.

Entrant #15: Bobby Eaton

Beautiful Bobby Eaton enters the match and looks at the scaffold, thinking, "Oh wow, Jim Cornette took a bump off that thing." Bobby enters the match and takes a look at Yokozuna, Brian Pillman and Owen Hart. Realizing he doesn't have Dennis Condrey or Stan Lane to back him up as they are still very much alive, Bobby simply turns around and eliminates himself from the Royal Rumble.
And thus, he was named: Bobby Eaton, The Pussy.

Entrant #16: British Bulldog

HE'S COMING FOR HIS TOIDAL SHOT AT DEAD WRESTLEMANIA!
British Bulldog enters and now this is a little ridiculous with The Hart Foundation Alliance here. Bulldog joins Owen, Pillman and Yokozuna in this alliance, yet something has to give, and it's going to give quickly...

Entrant #17: Andre The Giant

Executive decisions rule.
Andre The Giant makes his way to the ring in a fancy ring cart from Wrestlemania 3. Andre immediately flattens Owen and Pillman and while Bulldog puts up a good fight, Andre manages to chop him down to size as well. We are left with an Andre and Yokozuna staredown as number 18 comes out.

Entrant #18: Crash Holly

"GOOD GOSH, HOW CAN THE RING HOLD ALL OF THAT WEIGHT???" Bobby Heenan exclaims as Crash Holly, weighing in at allegedly well over 400 pounds, steps in the ring between Andre The Giant and Yokozuna. Crash bows up to Yoko and then Andre only for Andre to send Crash flying out of the ring with an elimination.
With this, Yoko charges in and begins trying to muscle Andre up and over the rope but Andre is just too large. Using his great mass, Andre grabs Yoko in a clinch and belly to bellies Yoko over the top rope and down to the floor for the elimination. Andre then begins cleaning house also eliminating Mr. Perfect and Brian Pillman.

Entrant #19: Terry Funk

Terry Funk enters with chainsaw and everyone scatters from the ring, most going under the rope except for Andre who is so frightened by this sight that the Giant leaps and tumbles over the top rope and to the floor for the elimination, losing no speed in running clear to the back. Terry places the chainsaw in the corner where it is confiscated as Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, British Bulldog and Brodie Lee reenter the ring as Roddy Piper watches on from ringside, still in the match yet hidden from view. Terry runs the gauntlet by gouging eyes and dropping foe after foe with piledrivers before he is put down with a huge lariat by Brodie Lee. Brodie is all alone in the ring as Entrant #20 arrives...

Entrant #20: Bruiser Brody

Brodie Lee looks on as the man who inspired him to become a wrestler enters the ring. Both Brodies face off and scowl at one another before engaging in the stiffest competition of strikes you have ever witnessed.
I'm honestly glad New Jack still isn't in the match so he doesn't have a chance to stab Bruiser Brody.

Entrant #21: Dusty Rhodes

Dutty Rhose bay bay.
The American Dream boogies down to the ring and starts dropping Bionic Elbows left and right, only for Roddy Piper to sneak up from behind and lock in the Sleeper Hold. Just like that, Dusty is out and Roddy looks straight down the hard cam...
"I didn't die ten years ago just to get beat by Cody's dad!"
Roddy Piper lifts Dusty up for the elimination but Dusty stops him, delivers a Bionic Elbow, and eliminates Roddy Piper!
"I'm boutta finish my story, daddy."
Just then Dusty is whipped in the back by Terry Funk's belt.
"I'M KILLING THE STORY! WE DON'T READ IN TEXAS!"

Entrant #22: Bam Bam Bigelow

Side note: This theme song rocks. Not the one where he keeps saying "BAM BAM" but the New Generation one that reminds me of a dancing Godzilla.
So Bam Bam gets in the ring and there's at least three fights going on: Dusty and Terry; Brody and Brodie, then Benoit and Guerrero still battling it out with Owen and Bulldog. Bam Bam takes the latter brawl and starts throwing the likes of Owen, Benoit and Guerrero around the ring before coming face to face with British Bulldog. The two heavyweights collide and Bulldog manages to get the better of Bam Bam only for Eddie to sneak in from behind and eliminate Bulldog.
Eddie smiles with glee but turns and finds himself in Bam Bam's crosshairs. Bam Bam launches himself into Eddie and Eddie is sent over the top rope but hangs on. Bam Bam moves to eliminate Eddie but he is stopped by Chris Benoit who piles on Bam Bam with a sleeper, but Bam Bam likewise dumps Benoit onto the apron. Bam Bam tries to solo eliminating Benoit and Guerrero but Benoit manages to lock in a front chancery on Bam Bam and use Bam Bam's momentum to carry the big man's momentum over the top rope and out to the floor with an unlikely assist from Owen Hart within the ring. Benoit, Eddie and Owen survive.

Entrant #23: Animal

Animal's music plays and we see The Road Warrior walking down to the ring, only to be distracted by Hawk who is standing on top of the Titantron. Animal rolls back out of the ring and goes to collect Hawk, not eliminated, just out of the ring.
Meanwhile, Brodie Lee is beginning to tire as Bruiser Brody, the fresher competitor, begins to lay waste to the Exalted One and Brodie's face is just caked in blood at this point. Brodie is on his knees and outstretches his arms, welcoming the punishment just as Bruiser Brody is about to lay in the final blow.

Entrant #24: Bray Wyatt

The lights go out and come back on with a BLEP! and Bray Wyatt is in the ring. Bray spikes Bruiser Brody with the Sister Abigail and launches Bruiser from the ring for the elimination as Brodie Lee looks at his savior. Brodie and Bray embrace only for Bray to eliminate his own disciple from the match. Bray then crushes Owen Hart in the corner as he was taking the fight to Eddie Guerrero and we get another countdown.

Entrant #25: Honky Tonk Man

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Wait a second... isn't Honky Tonk Man still alive?"
And yeah sure, maybe. But he's

DEAD TO ME!!!!!

... alright I'll change it... but I'm keeping it in the family!

Entrant #25: Grand Master Sexay

Banging and Banging and Banging and Banging and
Grand Master Sexay dances his way to the ring as Terry Funk drops Dusty Rhodes with a Piledriver on the apron, eliminating the American Dream. Dusty is upset he couldn't win the Rumble like his son and starts arguing with Terry who is still on the apron. GMS taps Terry on the shoulder and pokes Terry Funk in the eye, causing Terry to grasp his face in pain and fall to the floor, eliminated.
"DAMNIT LAWLER MY EYE! YOU GOUGED MY EYE LAWLER! YOU... PERVERT!"
Grand Master Sexay takes some enjoyment out of this right before he is dumped over the rope by Chris Benoit.

Entrant #26: Big Bossman

Big Bahman heads down to the ring with Nightstick in hand from Fulton County Prison and Big Bahman starts leveling Benoit, Guerrero, Owen and Wyatt with a clear advantage for the Bhaman here. It seems all hope is lost as Bossman is standing tall and has the ring on lockdown when suddenly.

Entrant #27: Hawk

OHHHHHHHHH WHAT A RUSH!
Hawk with a still legal Animal walk down to the ring as two true menaces with spiky shoulder pads and they enter the ring. Bossman goes for a nightstick shot on Hawk but the Hawkster catches it and breaks the nightstick over his knee. The Legion of Doom then drop Bossman with a Double Shoulder Tackle before hitting the Doomsday Device and launching BBM out of the ring. The Road Warriors systematically target Bray Wyatt next and try to eliminate him, but Wyatt pulls Animal out onto the apron with a Mandible Claw. Hawk follows and Wyatt is clobbered, only to be lifted for the Doomsday on the apron which connects, albeit sending all three men to the outside in a triple elimination.

Entrant #28: Razor Ramon

Heyo...
Razor Ramon enters the Royal Rumble and comes face to face with Owen Hart, who has been in the match since number 3. Razor and Owen scrap as Benoit and Eddie renew their fight with only two competitors left.

Entrant #29: Doink The Clown

Oh shit, it's Doink The Clown.
Doink enters the match and sprays Razor Ramon with water from a flower on his vest. Doink runs the gauntlet and drops Benoit, Eddie, and Owen leaving all members in the Rumble in opposite corners. Doink gives a signal and three other Doinks appear in the ring and the four Doinks deliver Bronco Busters to the remaining four competitors. The four Doinks take a bow in the center of the ring only for Benoit, Guerrero, Owen, and Razor to eliminate the four in one fell swoop.

Entrant #30: Macho Man Randy Savage

Oh Yeah!
Randy Savage is our last entrant and he comes to the ring with Pomp and Circumstance blaring over the loudspeakers. Randy hits the ring and comes off the top rope with a Double Axe Handle dropping Chris Benoit. Macho Man drops Eddie and Owen but is stopped by Razor Ramon who lifts him for the Razor's Edge but Savage fights out of it. Randy backs Razor up to the ropes and sidesteps as Owen Hart launches himself at him, connecting with a Crossbody to Razor sending both men to the floor!
We are down to the final three. Benoit, Eddie, and Macho Man. #1, #2, and #30. Randy pounces on both men with a series of punches but Benoit and Eddie use their numbers to back Savage down. Benoit and Eddie hit a Double Suplex and Eddie gets up, but Benoit keeps the Suplexes coming, nailing Three Amigos as Eddie ascends to the top rope and connects with a Frog Splash! Eddie and Benoit move to eliminate Macho Man now but in a cruel twist Eddie comes up from behind and dumps Benoit over the top rope for the elimination! Benoit is stunned, but applauds Eddie and tells him to win the match.
Eddie, a little too satisfied with himself, turns and finds himself face to face with Macho Man Randy Savage. Savage mounts the comeback with a series of clotheslines but Eddie kicks him in the gut and sends him out to the apron. Savage hangs on, runs to the turnbuckle and drops Latino Heat with a Double Axe Handle. Savage drops Eddie with a BIG Scoop Slam and goes to the top, connecting with the Elbow Drop! Savage into the cover now!
1....
2....
...... THIS IS A ROYAL RUMBLE RANDY!
Eddie Guerrero kicks out and launches Randy up over the top rope but Savage hangs on, skinning the cat back into the ring turning right into a leg lariat from Eddie Guerrero. Eddie follows this up with Two Amigos and aims the third towards the ropes, but Macho Man manages to duck behind and land on the apron. Macho Man leaps up with leg scissors around Guerrero's throat! And he pulls him up and over out to the floor!

Royal Rumble Winner: Macho Man Randy Savage

2023.07.20 03:59 TheLegendOfJeremyPt2 True story

PSA: Do NOT go to Compton if you are white. They are RACIST to white Hip-Hop fans! (Very Sad)
So I'm a bit of a Hip-Hop aficionado. A Hip-Hop Head, if you will. And while I may have grown up in a gated suburban area of Vermont, since I've grown up listening to them Hip-Hop beats and Gangsta heat, I practically know what it's like to live in the streets. So when I had to go to Los Angeles for a business trip, I thought it would've been a perfect opportunity to show the street disciples of Compton my knowledge and that I was on their side.
So I went up to a bunch of gangstas in the area and told them that I was a HUGE fan of 90's west coast gangsta rap, and started singing "Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, can't you see? Sometimes your words just Hypnotize me!" To prove it to them. They all look disgusted and one of them said that I was "whiter than a semen stew," and threatened violence if I didn't leave the area.
I was absolutely distraught. I was showing these people that I appreciated their culture, and they responded by pulling reverse racism and purposely excluding me from their club. This is discrimination akin to the slavery that took place in this very country that I currently lay about a decade ago and yet nobody cares because I'm white. Now I'm considering boycotting rap and listening to Country instead due to their racist policy against us white people. Has anybody else experienced something like this when they were in the LA area?

2023.05.31 04:15 AlanSmithee001 Remaining Funimation Transfer List

So I decided to take a list of Funimation anime that hadn't been uploaded created by selfbound and I searched through Crunchyroll's entire library to delete everything that I found that had already been uploaded. I hope that I've created the current updated list of remaining shows from Funimation that still need to be transferred to Crunchyroll.
Feel free to list any corrections or errors in comments below
Note: For some reason, I cannot link to to the old list because then Reddit won't allow me to make this post. If I would, then I definitively would, but for reason I cannot. So keep in mind that the old list was created by user selfbound and this list wouldn't exist without it.

Lewdlei's Introductory Guide to Arena Offense and Defense

Hello, fellow adventurers of Arathos! I welcome you to Lewdlei's Introductory Guide to Arena Offense and Defense

About Lewdlei: Lewdlei is a veteran VF2 player in Everglades (SEA) server, Guild: Feldria JSX, and has been playing since day one with the IGN: Father Lewdlei. Lewdlei is also a Discord Moderator in VF2 Official Discord, I'd love to see you in VF2 Official Discord #tavern-talk!
  • If you want to follow my Youtube channel for normal campaign clearing video using only 4 units, and no SSR in the team, here is the playlist: Valiant Force 2 Torture Run - YouTube . The playlist might give you some hint on how to clear each stage, like positioning and pacing.
  • For veterans: There is also Campaign Hard Mode 12-9, 3-star guide: https://youtu.be/VUpoDd5Np68 , I welcome you to Eden Aetherites farming.

Disclaimer: This guide contains no tier list, but there is a section that covers effective arena offense and defense team.

What is arena?

Arena is an activity that an arena offense party (Player-controlled) combats against an arena defense party (AI-controlled), in order to climb the ranking and gain reward. In short, a player vs AI mode.
You gain access to arena after you completed Campaign Stage N4-9.

How arena works?

As stated earlier, Arena is a player vs AI mode. With the advantage heavily skewed toward the player side, due to the following comparison.
Attacking Party has a lot of advantages due to the followings:
  • Attacking Party is player-controlled. Defending party is AI-controlled.
    • AI defense also do not use many skills (will be mentioned later).
  • Attacking Party benefits from Collection Bonus.
    • This is why arena does not favor whales, all they spent mean little to nothing in AI defense. Pretty much everyone has a good chance of defeating others.
  • Attacking Party can use Aura Link.
Criteria for Ranking

Arena Interface

  1. Rank: It shows your WEEKLY RANKING. This is used for MATCHMAKING.
  2. Season Rating: It shows your ENTIRE SEASON ARENA POINTS.
  3. Weekly Rating: It shows your WEEKLY ARENA POINTS.
  4. Timer: It shows you when will season end.
  5. Squad: For adjusting your team, you can have up to 5 squad saved at any given time.
  6. Ratings: It is a leaderboard, showing ENTIRE SEASON ARENA POINTS.
  7. Shop: For you to spend your blood stone.
  8. Rewards: For you to claim Milestone Reward, and Weekly Challenge Quests.
  9. History: For checking who you hit, and who hit you.
  10. Info: A useless button as of this moment. Always been there, contributing nothing.
  11. Practice match: To practice your team, this one does not affect your arena point. Finishing battles in practice match also does not contribute to daily quest.
  12. Rated match: Where the arena battle takes place, this one affects your arena point both gain and loss.
You will notice that there are two ratings: season rating and weekly rating. They are used for different purposes.
Season rating represents all the arena points you gain throughout the entire season. Season rating is used for determining who is the first place when the season ends. (For giving titles and frames.)
Weekly rating represents your weekly ranking. Weekly rating is used for "Milestone Reward", "Weekly Reward" and matchmaking.
  • Weekly rating, as its name suggested, is tallied on a weekly basis, it is hard to put it into words. But let me give a few examples.
  • Example 1: If at the end of a week, your weekly rating is at 3,800 point (Bronze 1). Your weekly rating will be lowered into 3,000 (the lowest starting point of Bronze 1). That 3,000 will be your starting weekly rating during the next week.
  • Example 2: If at the end of a week, your weekly rating is at 11,990 point (Gold 4). Your weekly rating will be lowered to 10,000 (the lowest starting point of Gold 4). That 10,000 will be your starting weekly rating during the next week.
  • Example 3: If at the end of a week, your weekly rating is at 39,900 point (Platinum 2). Your weekly ranking will be lowered to 30,000 (the lowest starting point of Platinum 2). That 30,000 will be your starting weekly rating during the next week.
  • Example 4: If at the end of a week, your weekly rating is at 50,000 point (Platinum 1/Diamond). Your weekly ranking will be lowered to 40,000 (the lowest starting point of Platinum 1/Diamond). That 40,000 will be your starting weekly rating during the next week.
Don't ask me why the system is designed like this. I have no idea either! But you and me are not in the place to question why it is like this, and the answer to this question will not benefit any of us in any way. You are to understand how this works so you don't get confused later on.
Censored for a tidbit of privacy. By the way, Eliza really is cute, isn't she?
For Practice Match you will see this
  1. Timer: Practice targets are refreshed once every 24 hours.
  2. Rating: This one represents WEEKLY RATING of that player.
  3. Arena point gain: As this is practice mode, there is no gain when you win against this player.
  4. Challenge: Proceed to practice battle, you can retreat anytime without any penalty.
Someone already got Vincent Costume!? Just how many gems did he spend?
For Rated Match you will see this
  1. Timer: Targets are refreshed once every 2 hours.
  2. Rating: This one represents WEEKLY RATING of that player.
  3. Arena point gained: As this is rated match, it shows the point you will gain. (Not including Victory Point)
  4. Challenge: Proceed to practice battle. If you retreat, you lose the match. If your game freezed or crashed, it is also considered as your loss (no resume).
  5. Refresh: If you really cannot wait for three targets to refresh by on their own, you can spend 50 gems to immediately refresh. This can be done indefinitely, as long as your gems allowed.
As you have noticed, there are three targets for selection. Left-side is the one who has lower weekly ranking than you. Middle is the one who has similar weekly ranking. Right-side is the one who has higher weekly ranking.
A rule of thumb: ALWAYS SELECT THE RIGHT-SIDE TARGET. They give the highest arena point when won.

In-battle features

When the match begins, which team moving first will be determined through total SPD from 5 units combined.
  • A party with higher total SPD will move first.
  • If both parties have equal team SPD, the defending team will move first.
You can check your character SPD in Character Info
  • Guardian, Healer Class: 1 SPD
  • Mage, Ranger: 2 SPD
  • Champion, Shadow: 3 SPD
The moving order will be done in alternating fashion, switching back and forth between both parties, and when there is no more unit that can move, that round will end, and the next round begins.
  • At 6th round and so on, it is called Sudden Death. At the start of 6th, 7th and 8th round, every unit on the battlefield will be inflicted with Vulnerability Debuff (increased damage received). This debuff can be blocked by Archbishop's Resistance buff, and can be cleansed.
    • 6th round: 200% increased damage received for 1 turn
    • 7th round: 250% increased damage refor 1 turn
    • 8th round: 300% increased damage for 99 turn.
      • At 8th round, if vulnerability debuff is removed (die and revived, cleansed). It will not be inflicted again, making you freed from vulnerability debuff.
    • 9th round and so on: no debuff inflicted, as you already get 99-turn debuff from 8th round.
When you finish a battle in arena. There will be a victory screen depicting the point you gained.
+350, perfect.
+150 point is the base point you get in every victory, regardless of tier.
+80 is from you selecting the right-side target (Higher Battle Power). +20 for middle target (Same Battle Power), and +0 for left-side target (Lower Battle Power).
Victory Point will depend on your performance in the battle. +120 for Complete Victory (no one died), +110 for Victory (1-2 squad unit died). +100 for Close Victory (3-4 unit died)
Therefore, the highest arena point you can get for each battle you do is +350. It is what you should strive for.
For Defending Party, if you failed to defend, your arena point get deducted as follow:
  • If Attacking Party got Complete Victory, you get - 50.
  • If Attacking Party got Victory, you get - 45.
  • If Attacking Party got Close Victory, you get - 40.
  • Daily Maximum Point Deduction is - 400, any minus beyond - 400 will be depicted as - 0.
For Defending Party, if you succeed in defending, you gain arena point as follow:
  • If you get Complete Victory (no one died during defending), you get +100.
  • If you get Victory (1-2 unit died during defending), you get +75.
  • If you get Close Victory (3 or more unit died during defending), you get +60.
  • There is no daily point gain limit in this way.
1 Defense Complete Victory (+100), 1 Defense Victory (+75), 1 Defeat (-45)
Special Scenario: If both attacking and defending party have one unit remaining each. If Attacking Party unit landed a finishing blow to Defending Party, and somehow the attacking party's unit also died (from trauma, reflect, etc.), resulting in 5 unit died. The Victory goes to Defending Party, not the Attacking Party. Keep this in mind.
What is rematch bonus?: Do you see the Revenge button? That one is the button you can use when you are defeated by another player, it takes you to battle with that player with you on the attacking side this time around (still need to spend arena attempt). But heed my advice, as much as you want to put them in their place, DON'T.
+320... Why am I doing this again?
Because the Enemy Difficulty will always be Lower Battle Power (+0) regardless of their actual battle power, while you gain Rematch Bonus +50. Instead of you getting ideal +350, you can get +320 at most. If you cannot get complete victory, it will even be lower. Just don't use Revenge button!
The system is pretty complex when put into words. But as you continue playing and familiarizing yourselves with arena, you will understand them all in no time.

Why should I do arena? What do I gain from this Player vs AI mode? Isn't this so boring I could play in my sleep?

Well... You certainly have your point, and I agree. Playing against AI is pretty boring. But...
  • Participating in arena gives you Blood Stones. These juicy blood stones are used for buying item in blood stone shop, there are many things worth buying including the followings:
    • Summon Ticket: You can buy them for 100 blood stones each, maximum of 3 tickets/week.
    • Relic of Calling: It is for unlocking an additional job path, 800 blood stones each, maximum of 1 Relic of Calling/month.
    • SSR Dark Disciple Selector Ticket: For selecting one of Dark Disciple SSR heroes: Eliza, Miu and Valerie, 1,500 blood stones each, maximum of 1 selectomonth.
    • Character costumes: For 4,000 blood stones each. For a new costume, you get 25% discount, making it 3,000. They stay permanently, there is no need to rush. Unless you are in for waifu/husbando/collection bonus.
    • Note: Weekly restock for summon tickets every Monday. Monthly restock for everything else every 1st day of a month. Make certain you do not miss out anything.
      • Lewdlei's suggestion: Prioritize buying Relic of Calling -> Summon Tickets -> SSR Dark Disciple Selector -> Costumes.
      • Gear Selectors are highly not recommended, you can either buy them from Daily Bazaar, or you can just go clear some campaign stages. Greg has made a guide about where to get a specific piece of gear. Feel free to check it out. https://www.reddit.com/officialvaliantforce2/comments/13hb7li/gregs_guides_gear_101/
  • Participating in arena also gives you rewards in four categories
    • Milestone reward: You get this immediately when you fulfill the criteria for that rank.
      • Example 1: If you have 10,000 arena point. You will get Gold 3 milestone reward.
      • Example 2: If you have 40,000 arena point, and are in top 100. You will get Diamond milestone reward.
      • And if you do fall below top 100 later, you will still be eligible to get this Diamond milestone reward.
    • Weekly reward: You get this at every end of a week (Every Monday reset), depending on what your current arena rank is.
    • Seasonal reward: You get this at the end of a season.
    • Weekly Challenge Quests: You get this by fulfilling arena challenge missions, such as winning for a specified number of times, etc.
  • If you manage to rank high enough (at least Top 100) in an arena season, you also get a cool Profile Frame and Profile Title.
  • Daily quest has a quest that requires you to play at least 1 arena match. Doing every daily quest available to you is highly important in order to gain Guild Reputation/EXP. Your guild level will rise from the discipline you have for clearing every single daily quest!
    • If you somehow do not care about arena at all. You can enter an arena match, then press retreat. You will still be able to complete the daily quest. I don't really recommend this practice though.
  • For arena defender: you get to show this to your arena opponent.
5 Gangsta Glasses for 120 Fairy Dust? DEFINITELY WORTH.
Ahem, enough dawdling. Let's get to the main topic. By this point, you should be convinced enough to exert yourself in arena, right?

How many times should I do the arena offense?

Everyone gets 3 arena attempts a day. This can be extended to up 6 attempts/day by spending 50 gems for each additional arena attempt (up to 3 additional attempts a day for 150 gems).
Before we answer the question, let us review the reward first.
Milestone rewards (Claimable once per season for each rank reward)
https://preview.redd.it/lop2ue9to90b1.png?width=654&format=png&auto=webp&s=13cb7283b6e88ad864d310ac1d9a92f68058b70b
Weekly rewards (Claimable via in-game Mail every Monday, you get only the reward from your current weekly ranking)
https://preview.redd.it/zbfpze3uo90b1.png?width=656&format=png&auto=webp&s=3d7705faf68aba0267b34a574c97c797742ac0e6
Seasonal rewards (Claimable via in-game Mail at the end of a season, you get only the reward from your current ranking)
https://preview.redd.it/w1d1z6nuo90b1.png?width=655&format=png&auto=webp&s=9859289236beb23d786cf4147e9e88d668d820d8
You also gain blood stones from weekly arena challenge for 400 blood stones/week, provided you completed every arena quest.
Let us return to our original question. How many times should I do the arena offense?
I am not a math guy, thinking too much is troublesome.
For an easier way to formulate idea, let us use "6 attempts a day" as an example.
At the time of this guide being written, it is season 4, and it lasts for 27 days.
If you spend 150 gems daily for maximum arena attempts, you pay 4,050 gem in total.
If you managed to climb to at least Platinum 4, you get a total of 4,300 gems from Milestone Reward alone, that is already positive return.
  • If you manage to climb even higher, then congratulations. Even more positive return to you.
  • Not to mention that you also get weekly reward depending on your rank. If you failed to climb to Platinum 4, this weekly reward will fill the gap.
  • And we have not even include the reward of exchanging blood stones into summon tickets weekly (3 tickets/week = 900 gems worth of reward), Relic of Calling (which is highly valuable/cannot be bought with gems, you get it from event or spending real money only), etc etc.
TL;DR: Arena gives positive return, as long as you can climb through the rank.
3 attempts a day is fine. Up for 6 attempts a day? EVEN BETTER.

And... Welcome to the highlight you are looking for...

Effective strategies for arena offense

There are a few strategies that are widely used in arena offense.
Summoner Squad: By utilizing the baiting power of summoned units, AoE damage from Manglemorph, Taunt from Shatterer, Silence Active/Silence Trigger from HuntePredator, along with CD reduction and ATK boost when summoned unit died (Summoner's Feat), making Summoner Squad the most effective strategy for arena offense. Damage, bait, CD reduction from Summoner's Feat, debuff, you name it. This team has everything covered.
  • Notable units
    • Jenny: Phantom's Feat + Manglemorph/Shatterer (InvokeSummoner Active Skill) + Nightstrider (Phantom Passive Skill)
      • Phantom's Feat lets you reposition yourself after using active skill, putting you out of harm's way
      • Manglemorph for AoE damage, Shatterer for Taunt, you can use whatever you want depending on what your team needs. (I prefer Manglemorph.)
      • Nightstrider for increased MOV, making it easy for Jenny to place summon unit almost anywhere on the battlefield.
      • Showcase: Jenny Showcase - YouTube You deal a lot of damage, you bait Vincent's innate skill. Your Jenny is out of harm's way. What more could you ask for?
    • Decimia: Summoner with non-damaging Dispel + Pariah
      • Non-damaging Dispel makes her shine against reflect team, since she can use it and does not get reflected back by any damage.
      • Pariah: Affected unit cannot be targeted by friendly units, or be affected by actions from friendly units. This prevents that target from receiving buff, healing, etc from other units except self.
      • She also has access to Sniper job, but it is better to use her as Summoner for more frequent Dispel and summoning. Or if you do not want to use her as a Summoner, you can use her as Sniper to enjoy a longer range Dispel.
    • Rhea: Summoner with very high firepower.
      • She can buff herself in the first turn with her innate skill, then she can summon Manglemorph in a second turn to do A LOT of damage.
    • Eden: Sniper with access to HuntePredator
      • Highly versatile unit for arena offense: DPS, baiting with trap, Silence Active/Trigger, Dispel
      • She can use Sniper's Feat + Hunter's Trap/Predator's Trap (HuntePredator Active Skill) + Spellbreak (Hunter Passive)
      • Sniper's Feat gives you 2-tile increased range
      • Spellbreak for random target Dispel.
      • Hunter's Trap for Silence Active, Predator's Trap for Silence Trigger
      • If you have no need for trap, you can use Arrow Hail for further DPS, making her highly versatile, a great addition to any team.
      • If you do not have Eden, Lola can be a decent replacement. Lola has access to Sniper class + InvokeSummoner class.
    • Zedda: Has access to both InvokeSummoner and HuntePredator
      • Makes her very versatile, and can fill the gap your team needed.
      • She does not have SnipeElementalist job, so she suffers from shorter range compared to Eden/Lola.
    • Esteria: The only Summoner with two summon units, enabling her to make full use of Summoner's Feat.
    • Tiberius: SR unit with non-damaging Dispel Innate Skill and access to HunteSniper
      • He is a solid replacement for those without Decimia/Eden.
    • Most Summoner's Squad will use at least 2-3 units that can summon units, and may add a Hunter's Trap/Predator's Trap to the mix for further disruption and versatility.
    • Warning: Do not use Summoner's Squad as defending squad, they are squishy, they do not use summoning skill as AI defense. You have been warned.
Long-range units: Attack range is almost everything, because of how Vincent dominates arena defense, also Vindicator's Feat (reflect after taking an action). You either bait Vincent's innate skill by summoned units, or you outrange him to get yourself out of harm's way. And if you stand at least 5 tiles away from a Guardian, they are unable to use normal attack to active their Feat skills.
  • Notable units
    • Elementalist: Madeleine, Ronan, Octavia
      • You will equip these units with Mystic Missiles (Mage Active Skill) for highest damage multiplier (117% x 3).
    • Sniper: Lola, Eden, Monika
      • You will equip these units with Arrow Hails (Archer Active Skill) for maximum range, AoE, and high damage multiplier (240%). Arrow Hails is also unguardable. It target tiles, not units.
      • You can also use Aimed Shot (Marksman Active Skill) for a slightly higher damage multiplier, but it is a targeting skill (Guardable). Not recommended. Misplay might result in you using skill into a Vindicator with Reflect on, killing yourself.
Must-have things for arena offense team
  • An ideal offense team will usually have everything ready at their disposal. This includes...
    • Dispel: For countering 0-hit Last Stand buff (will be mentioned later)
      • Source of Dispel: Spellbreak (Hunter's Passive), Decimia/Octavia/Misato/Tiberius's Innate Skill, Arcane Unraveling (Spellweaver Active Skill), etc.
    • Baiting unit: For Vincent's Innate Skill, or for keeping Vindicator occupied.
      • For a non-Summoner Squad team, having at least a Jenny will help you greatly. She works like a charm.
      • Also help you out of a bind from Trauma-Deathproof bug (will be mentioned later)
    • Damaging skill: from either Sniper or Elementalist or both, or for Summoner Squad: Manglemorph
    • Some defensive measures: for guaranteeing your team's performance for a +350, such as a Diviner (Eleanor, Emilia), some guardian units, such as Altima, Faye, etc.
      • Some might forgo defensive measures entirely, depending on one's playstyle and experience.
      • Lewdlei's personal pick: I have Eleanor on my arena offense team.
There are many other strategies that work well. This list is for what that is seen often, and my arena viewpoint is still highly limited, and I am still learning the subtlety of arena myself.

Effective strategies for arena defense

Let us be clear about this. With how current arena works, arena match favors attacking party by a ton.
The aim of setting up arena defense is to...
  • Torture the attacking party, let them spend a good 5-10 minutes just to crack your defense for a flawless +350 arena points.
  • Prolong the fight, and hope for...
    • Your opponent making a critical mistake, resulting in your victory instead of them.
    • They crashed due to some unexplainable phenomena, or... explainable phenomena. Such as bugs, 0% battery, etc etc.
    • They ragequitted due to the defending team too tanky, losing all hope to fight in the first place
See? We are not aiming to win here. We are just trying to make them have a hard time and make mistakes. Now let's see what is in for strategies
Vincent: Yes, Vincent. Any misplay will be punished by his Innate Skill, it can kill 3 units if you were caught unawared. There is a reason why Vincent is in 99% of arena defense team (I will leave 1% just to not sound too confident), and also why this game has another name Vincent Force 2. If you can bait his Innate Skill to a summoned unit, a victory is almost guaranteed for you.
  • Popular Vincent Build: There are a few variations that is effective in arena such as...
    • Feat: Berserker's Feat or Warrior's Feat
      • Berserker's Feat let you boost your own ATK and counterattack when damaged. Warning: there is a bug regarding Berserker's Feat (continue reading below)
      • Warrior's Feat let you boost your own ATK when damaged, but no counterattack.
    • Active Skill: Go Berserk (Berserker Active)
      • This is the best Active Skill to go with Vincent, undisputed.
    • Passive Skill: Numb the Pain (Slayer Passive) or Berserk Trigger (Berserker Passive)
      • Numb the Pain can cleanse 4 debuffs, so it is useful against taunt, silence active, stun, trauma, vulnerability, etc. Also gives 35% Physical Protection, making him harder to die.
      • Berserk Trigger will boost your ATK even further, but Vincent, even without this, already have so much damage. I think this is not necessary.
  • Showcase of how Vincent caught people off guard: https://youtu.be/JG3hVuOuiso
    • This one you will see almost everything effective on arena defense. Watch and deduce what is going on in the video.
Vindicator: aka Reflect Machine, it is self-explanatory. They reflect whatever damage back your way. There are many ways people were caught off guard by this simple, but effective Reflect, such as
  • Attack aura: Yes, sometimes attack aura actually works against you, especially on any job except Shadow and Champion. Regular attacks from Guardian, Mystic, Healer and Ranger can be guarded, and if they also have reflect on... then pray you are not reflected to death.
    • You can avoid this by pointing aura bearings to no one, or point them to melee units, so it has a harder time attacking. There are a lot of instances Eden proc-ing units attacking to reflected unit to their death.
    • Example of how aura attack works against you: Example of How Aura Attack Works Against You - YouTube This is so painful to watch and record.
  • Targeting skills: Yes, some times people are just being pepega, or maybe they are still not fully awake, and forgot that someone has reflect on. Get rekt. Happened frequently with Eden's and Lola's Innate Skill.
  • Reiner: You might be wondering why Reiner deserved a mention. If Reiner is at 5-star, his Pillar of Justice (Innate Skill) provides him with 4-tile guarding, instead of usual 3-tiles. This can certainly trip people up. Make certain to check what level of Reiner's innate is at. If it is at level 3, exercise caution.
  • Reflect interaction with Slayer's/Berserker's Feat: If a unit with either Slayer's or Berserker's Feat counterattacks into a unit with reflect buff, and that reflected damage kills you. Your deathproof will not trigger, and your unit does not revive.
  • Triumvirate of Vindicators: Faye, Victoria and Reiner. You will see them as a normal occurence in arena defense team, one way or another. Sometimes you see one, sometimes you see two, and frequently, all three of them.
    • Faye is usually built into Vindicator + Diviner (for Protector's Providence Passive - Giving 99-turn Undispellable Deathproof)
    • Victoria is usually built into Vindicator + Paladin (for Holy Aegis Passive - Giving 70% AoE Protection Buff)
    • Reiner is usually built into Vindicator + Paladin (for Holy Aegis Passive - Giving 70% AoE Protection Buff)
Diviner: Diviner is for prolonging fights by deathproofing your units. If you want your Diviner's Feat to grant Deathproof to specific someone, make sure that unit has the lowest HP, as Diviner's Feat targets someone with lowest health (including summoned unit).
  • Protector's Providence (Diviner Passive) grants random units from Guardian/Champion/Shadow class a 99-turn Deathproof. This variant of deathproof cannot be dispelled.
  • If the last unit standing has deathproof and died to trauma... Deathproof will not proc, and battle will not end. This is a bug, and a result-deciding bug at that!
Last Unit + 1 HP + Deathproof + Trauma, I don't like where this is going...
  • For attacking party: If you encounter this bug, do not panic. You can summon a unit or wait for a summoned unit to leave the battlefield, and the battle will end for you. But if somehow you do not run any summoning unit skill at all, or if that character is already dead, then bad luck for you, you need to quit the match, and it is your loss.
    • Moral of the story 2: Run at least 1 summoning skill in your team to circumvent this bug. We will never know when this will be fixed, so we better prepare ourselves for it.
  • Popular Diviners: Eleanor, Emilia and Leon. Faye deserves a special mention, as she can use Vindicator's Feat along with Protector's Providence
Faye with Diviner Passive, this is where magic happens.
0-Hit Last Stand Buff: Yes, you read that right, 0-hit Last Stand buff.
  • How to get it: Unit with a deathproof died while having Last Stand buff on
  • Showcase of how to get it: 0-Hit Last Stand Buff: Last Stand + Deathproof Interaction - YouTube
    • As you can see, my Vincent (which has Last Stand + Deathproof) used his innate skill, and died due to reflected damage, and my Vincent revived with a Last Stand buff looking like this
0-hit Last Stand, the most OP buff, period.
  • What can 0-hit Last Stand do?: It makes that unit IMMORTAL until next action, as the buff lasts for 1 turn only. This is the reason why people recommend running Defiance Set in arena. It is exactly because of this reason. Last Stand on Deathproof is strong and can give birth to 0-hit Last Stand on right condition.
    • Summoner Squad in Action - YouTube The same video as earlier, look at 2:50 to see 0-hit Last Stand in action, see Altima taking all those hits like a champ? Yes, that is the immortality bestowed by the buff. (Now imagine if that were not Altima, but Vincent? How broken would this be?)
There is an old saying in arena: when in doubt, run Defiance Set.
  • What can you do if you meet one?
    • You ignore that unit until they take another action (waiting for buff to end as it lasts for only 1 turn).
    • You dispel it then proceed to the killing blow. That is why it is recommended to have Dispel on arena offense. Almost everyone uses Defiance Set, almost everyone uses Deathproof. You get what I mean? 0-hit Last Stand is a normal occurence.
High DPS, long-ranged units: Such as Eden, Madeleine, Ronan, Octavia can be a bit useful. But do not expect from them too much, since all these skills can be baited by a tank or by summon, and they are really squishy.
  • They also tend to not use long-range skill at its maximum range, simply walking up close and put them in harm's way in the process.
  • Some well-built Summoners can one-shot them by just summoning Manglemorph (and AoE damage crits), while two-shotting them is almost a certain death.
  • I personally do not run them in my arena defense team. My go-to defense team is Vincent + 3 Vindicator + 1 Diviner.
There is no effective defense team against Summoner's Squad as of this moment. If you encounter it, just resign yourself to losing. Might as well focus your attention elsewhere.
There are some skills that defending AI will never use. Such as...
  • Faye's Avenging Aurora (Innate Skill)
    • But Faye's value as a reflect tank, also a Diviner (if you build Vindicator and use Diviner's Protector's Providence Passive for undispellable Deathproof) warrants her a spot in arena defense team.
  • Valerie's Siren Song of Sin (Innate Skill)
    • If you have Emilia, use Emilia. If you have Eleanor, use Eleanor. If you have Leon, use Leon.
    • This makes Valerie a poor choice in arena defense. Since she can activate Diviner's Feat solely from her active skill, and not her innate skill. A half-baked Diviner for arena defense.
  • Summoning Skills (Manglemorph, Shatterer, Esteria's Feral Accord)
    • AI uses it under a very specific condition: being immobilized, having no available target to regular attack, and having no other available skills to use. Must have these three elements together in order for AI to use the skill, which of course, is not a useful knowledge in the slightest. They are so unreliable, that is the reason why Summoner's Squad should not be used for a defending team, they cannot do anything.
For anyone who thinks this guide is too lengthy. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE. Size does matter after all.
If you are confused, especially new players (which I totally expected). Here is a take-home message.
  1. Arena gives positive return. The more you participate in arena and climb rank, the more positive your return will be.
  2. Prioritize buying Relic of Calling -> Summon Tickets -> SSR Dark Disciple Selector -> Costumes, and skip Gear Selectors.
  3. Always pick right-side target for maximum point and reward gained. And never, ever use Revenge button.
  4. Mainstream defending team revolves around Vincent, Vindicator, Diviner and 0-hit Last Stand buff, with 3 Vindicator + 1 Vincent + 1 Diviner as the most popular team composition. Some might add long-ranged DPS into the mix.
  5. Mainstream attacking team revolves around Summoner's Squad and long-ranged Elementalist/Sniper or a mixture between the two.
  6. Run at least 1 Dispel on arena offense team, to counter 0-hit Last Stand.
  7. Run at least 1 Summoning skill on arena offense team, to circumvent the Deathproof-Trauma bug.
  8. Do not use SummoneSummoning skill for arena defense.
With all these tips, you should be considered half-knowledgeable about ins and outs of arena. The rest is for you to experience them yourselves, and make these knowledge truly yours.
I extend my thanks to Pokies and Crimson, our regular testers. And a lot of VF2 veterans for prolonged discussion and insight about what is going on in arena, all of them provided me with information enough to be able to write this guide. The guide won't be this lengthy without them all.

That is it for Lewdlei's Introductory Guide to Arena Offense and Defense! Learn and have fun in arena. Climb high and gain a lot of rewards!
