I really like fighting bots. It feels a lot more satisfying and engaging than Bugs.
I get a rush with the bot engagements, the drastic meta change and shake up of tactics. The ascetic of laser bolts, other lights, explosives, mechanical gibberish and the soundtrack of fighting outs on a thrill. I love the moments striders pop in, it’s a real “oh shit knuckle down lads” moment.
I feel the game at its core when fighting bots. Their harder but to me it’s funner that way.

I just finished Medium and I must say the pull of the story was excellent. As soon as the scene with Jack occurred, I was all in. I needed to know where the story went. The pacing, atmosphere, sound (play with headphones as recommended), and unique concept (two dimensions at once) were delivered in an excellent manner.

I enjoyed checking every item and reading every file. The mysteries became very intriguing and kept me enthralled. Sadness was a very interesting character and trying to find her name so you could set her free was a very strong plot point. The Maw's delivery was excellent. Voiced by Troy Baker, it always felt disturbing and one of the only enemies that made me feel anxious as I ran from it. You really couldn't make any mistakes to get away as it truly, desperately wanted to catch you. The mysteries of what it was and where it came from also pulled me in.

I was a little confused about Thomas's office in Niwa but then I noticed the circle of salt around his desk. That combined with his memory stating something was coming tells me that he survived the Maw attack by surrounding himself in salt I'm a hurry (broken salt container in his desk). Some time later it seems he called Marianne and went into the spirit world using the symbols in the secret room (Marianne said those symbols felt like a curtain blowing in the wind). It makes sense given Thomas decided he was going to find his other half after setting Marianne's arrival in motion. It also makes sense on why he was nowhere to be found. The after credits proves it was the real Thomas in the spirit world as he was holding the watch his wife gave him on their 10 year anniversary. Again I love the details.

Now for the small problems I have with the story. The third act just kind've threw in some new plot device without much set up. Henry literally came out of nowhere but was central to everything that happened. This as opposed to Richard who was set up for some time before the big reveal. Even going back as seeing the memory of the nurse killing him makes sense once you learn where the Maw came from. The Maw's first victim was the man who helped create it. But Henry just showed up, attacked Thomas, set fire to the house, trapped spirit Thomas, then died. His short encounter was near impossible to predict and just as easily disappeared leaving us dealing with the damage dealt. Henry's involvement just felt rushed compared to everything else. There's so many unexplained parts of his involvement.

I get that he doing Thomas by noticing the article of Richard's vegetative state. His motivation seems to be that he's a dedicated government agent and just loves his job?

Why did he want Thomas to show his power rather then just arresting him?

How did Henry lay that trap for spirit Thomas without knowing what Thomas could actually do?

How did spirit Thomas even survive? I'm guessing real Thomas killed Henry before the beast could finish spirit Thomas but also left him trapped in Henry's mind.

Then there's Lillianne. Where was she living this entire time? How did she survive? Was she just checking the lake every day for years? She had some very distinct bandages on her legs and arms. Seems like a detail that should have an explanation.

Was Sadness just a manifestation of Lily, like the Maw? Is she like the child inside your mind that if Marianne sent away, would've put Lily in a vegetative state? Why was she missing an arm? I think trying to discover her death was a draw of the early game just to find out she's just a red herring there to motivate Marianne into finding the truth. I particularly liked the part where you're following the blinking lights as Sadness' only was to tell you where to go. It felt very supernatural and ghostly which helped set the tone. It put a damper later when you find out her role in all this.

As you can see most of my questions are elements introduced in the third act. The ending although faded to black didn't leave many options. Marianne killing herself would solve nothing. Killing Lily and sending away the May is the only solution. Some claim Thomas might've showed up and killed Lily to fulfill the dream, but he's not even in their realm. Since Marianne is no idiot, she either killed Lily or didn't shoot anyone. If she didn't kill Lily then maybe she thought of another way to get rid of the Maw. But obviously we have no idea so it's have to assume Lily is dead and now Thomas continues his search for his spirit half who may now have died protecting Marianne. Great story that could've been a masterpiece. Still a great game overall.

Honestly, not too worried. The boys were due for a bad game, this will be a good opportunity for them to reset and do what they do best; win on the road. Avs are a good team, beating them in 5 would have been a luxury. However, we got this on Friday. Stars in 6!

Hey everyone,
I was riding in the city when I hit a stretch of rough roads. I had to ride in 1st gear standing up because of all the bumps. When I stopped at a red light, I noticed steam/smoke coming from the engine. It stopped after around a minute. Should I be concerned? Don't plan on riding like this often.

Let's not get into semantics but please, I'm sick and tired of Afghans always having to tiptoe around this notion that colored eyes in Afghanistan is common or "cherrypicked", " showing white types only". Although I DO agree that some pages especially on Instagram take it a tad too far by only posting light eyes types, this notion that 99% of Afghans are dark eyed is just simply not true. YES Afghans have a much higher rate of colored eyes compared to it's surrounding region. NO, there is nothing superior about this, but it also doesn't mean we shouldn't appreciate the uniqueness of our people. Brown eyed or light eyed, we are all the creation of Allah(swt). However, that doesn't mean we wash down people's uniqueness in phenotype, culture , traditions etc just to please the mass.
For instance, look at this thread. An Afghan gameshow contestants and look how many colored eyes were found. Keep in mind they were just ordinary civilians and I'm sure Afghans can back me up on this.

Study was also done on 761 individuals and the percentage for light eyes ( not including hazel/ dark hazel) was around 20-25%. Keep in mind most of the sample were a mix bunch like tajiks, mixed Tajiks/ hazaras, urban pashtuns etc. In my view pashtuns especially those from the Loya Paktia belt would have it at higher percentage.

There was also anthropological studies done Nuristanis, which I can't find the exact source, so I'll just pass it by, where around 40% were light eyed + mixed eyes.
Before people jump at the idea that 20-25% isn't common, it actually IS. Light /light mixed eyes popping up at 20-25% is quite prevalent among non European populations, especially when some fringe European groups get less than that percentage.
I think I have to make it clear that light eyes is much more common among the Iranic and Nuristani people of Afghanistan, rather than the Turkic and Hazara groups, even though it still occurs quite commonly among the latter especially compared to their Turkic neighbours slightly up north. Why? Well for a number of reasons but possibly due to the fact that Turkic groups like uzbeks have absorbed Indo European people's among other things like recent admixture with eastern Iranic tribes.

Postmortem

It's been a year since I launched my first horror game on Steam. Yesterday, I finally updated it with a performance patch, allowing me to call it a finished and polished product. Here, I want to share the story of my journey, the things I’ve learned, and what I could have done differently.

Prestory

I have always loved playing games and wanted to create them. My first "game engine" was Scratch, which I discovered around 2012, introduced to me by my school teacher. At that time, my attention span wasn’t great, and I didn’t learn much until 2014 or 2015, when I made my first copy of "Five Nights at Freddy’s" in Scratch. I think the series is still somewhere on YouTube. Naturally, nothing exceptional, and the game wasn’t finished. The following year, I made a trailer for my grand horror game idea (which was beyond my abilities but still exciting).
Then I found Roblox and its Roblox Studio, where I first encountered the programming language Lua. Using some presets and models, I tried to make a copy of Outlast in Roblox, which got massive views for its time and earned me a handful of Robux (not much, but it meant the world to me). I made even more lazy projects with large scopes, which I naturally didn’t fully finish either.
I believe my serious gamedev journey began in 2017 when I read an article about Unity development in a gaming magazine. Naturally, I started with horror games again (as everyone else does). I found out I lacked 3D skills, so I got a student 3DMax license. I learned the basics of modeling and texturing and started learning C# for Unity. For a teen, it was a challenging task. Over 2-3 years, I went back and forth between Unity and Roblox.
In my local university, there was a Global Game Jam. I decided to participate. It’s a two-day activity where you quickly come up with an idea and a prototype for a game. I proposed a game called 3x5Cell (the website isn’t working anymore, but the executables are still there). I earned a virtual third place there. Fast forward, I took part in multiple game jams and finally found Blender, which I use for modeling and sculpting to this day.
In 2020, I launched my first game, Chibi Dash, which I ported to Steam in 2021 to test how Steam works.

Beyond Your Fear

I started developing this game in 2021 on Unity HDRP (which was not stable at all) with the goal of making it as realistic as possible, using warm lights as an unsettling element. Unfortunately, due to circumstances in 2022, I had to cease development because I didn’t have a proper PC. However, I continued modeling on my old laptop and published a couple of game assets.
In October, I finally resumed development with a clear plan to create a story-driven psychological puzzle horror game where each action has consequences, and there are three endings. I postponed the release three times: initially in December, then in January, and finally in March, resulting in the release date of May 13th. Now, here are the things I wanted to share with you.

My Mistakes

While some of them might be obvious, knowing something doesn’t mean you do it.

• TEST YOUR GAME: My biggest issue at launch was not enough testing. You can’t find every bug, but still try your best. Depending on your game’s scale, test it for 1-2 months before release.
• Minimal Marketing: In today’s world, creating something with the goal of earning money can’t be done with the mindset of "I will make a great game, and it will become popular." In 2021 alone, 13,000 games were released. Hoping your game will be seen and recognized among all of those isn’t a good strategy. Even if some of you have great games, the majority of regular developers with their first games don’t. Always make a marketing plan and find your target audience.
• Don’t Fix What’s Already Working: If you’re working on a game for 6-12 months, your skills will grow exponentially. It’s tempting to add something big or fully rework systems. However, 99% of the time, you’ll just introduce more bugs without fixing the issue. Use your improved skills to enhance systems or art that don’t fit your vision instead of rewriting everything because you can do it more efficiently.
• Polish Your Game Afterwards: If this is your first experience, this step might not be for you. For those who have been making a game for 4-12 months and are a bit proficient, "Make your game feel good."
• Reach Influencers: Before the release, create a press kit and reach out to as many influencers as you can—100-200 is a good rule of thumb. Don’t aim for the large ones. Find niche streamers who will benefit from your game and send them a key. Generally, only a small percentage will reach back, so if you get 1-5 influencers, that’s already pretty good.
• Fix Bugs Quickly: When you release your game, the work is only halfway done. Monitor the game’s status and reviews, and quickly fix what went wrong.
• Prepare for Critique: You will be criticized by fellow developers and gamers. Often, they will be mean. Don’t take it personally, and try to sort out the genuinely good advice that can improve your game.
• Take a Break: For this project, I was almost burned out. When I start something, I can’t let go, so I neglected my mental and physical well-being and social life. Unless you are working for a publisher, you are not in a hurry. It’s better to continue refreshed; it will come out better. Trust me and trust the process.

That’s all I wanted to share with you. It’s probably been said a million times, but still. I’ll end this on a good note: I’ve finally started another project and will probably share more about it soon.

Was wandering around the edge of the map in a prawn out of curiosity. No depth mods on the prawn. Just a single grapple arm. Found a little pocket with a ghost leviathan guarding a little sanctuary with ion cubes in it. Got attacked by the leviathan when trying to get out. I grappled it and started punching. I was at it for only around ten seconds before I noticed something was very very wrong.
There was nothing but absolute pitch blackness around me and the leviathan.
I felt my heart stop when I heard the screams of another much larger ghost leviathan. I turned and saw its massive head coming straight at me from the darkness.
I panicked. I let go of the leviathan. I let go. F*ck why did I let go? The prawn I was in started to rapidly descend. 500. 700. 950. The prawn started to groan as I sank below its crush depth. Then, as if my some miracle, the prawns lights caught a mass of rock. It was the cliffside that marked the edge of the map. I was saved. I managed to just barely grab the surface only to hear the screams of the larger leviathan right behind me! I was still climbing. Just a few more meters until I was above crush depth.
The screams. The groan from the prawn that was now at 18hp left. It was too much. I paused and quit. Without saving. I was breathing heavily. My hands are still shaking. Oh my f*cking god…
Lost an hour and eight minutes of progress. But I don’t regret it for a second. Scariest shit I’ve ever seen in this game.

Just some thoughts as I've got back into PCVR recently ...
My father sent me a Quest 3 for my birthday and the edge to edge clarity of the lenses got me back into VR. I have a Reverb G2 (which I used with knuckles) and a Quest 2, but I had played less and less due to content and, frankly, I was sick of fresnel lenses. Meta's optics are now ridiculously good. I had some software in my account, and as soon as I fired up racket fury - it was clear as day, but looked like absolute crap because it hasn't been updated for Quest 3. I played Asgard's Wrath 2, and while better, was the same issue.
I then went to try and set up PCVR streaming with virtual desktop. I tried 200 mbps AVC and HEVC. I could get up to 400-500 mbps H.264. Truthfully, I wasn't happy with the visual quality or the latency.
I used the link cable. I dialed mbps to 960 mbps. Much better, but still not happy with visual quality or latency. The optics of the Quest 3 make it way to easy to see artifacts. I could even see it on the cubes in the color gradients of beat saber, and it drove me crazy.
So, I set out to get a native PCVR headset that was as close to the optics of the Quest 3 as possible.
Initially I was interested in BSB, but the reason the Quest 3 excited me so much was edge to edge clarity. Looked at Crystal and Aero. I'm sorry, I just can't buy a Pimax device - knowing how many issues friends have had with the company. Further, it's massive. Maybe the Crystal light will be better.
I got a used Aero from Adorama for $750. It's pretty good, it's a mature product - but it's lenses aren't as good as the Quest 3 (it's close). It's got slight barrel distortion still on the right and left edges of the lens, which my brain tuned out after a day. It's also got slight motion blur when you move your head. Slightly annoying, but I don't notice it unless I look for it. While it's got no local dimming, colors look great - and I have never had an FOV that bothered me.
I went back to the Quest 3 last night playing red matter 2 standalone. The optics are absolutely flawless. The graphics are pretty decent when compared to PCVR, but this is pushing the device to it's limits, as I see frame drops here and there. This is the best we are gonna get from standalone, most games aren't updated to take advantage of it, and it could look soooooo much better via a native displayport connection on a high powered 4090/13900k pc.
All headsets have compromises, and I'm going to use the Aero for PCVR as I really like it. But the quest 3 compromise is self imposed: no native displayport because Meta wants you to buy standalone games from their store. I get it, but it pisses me off. At least make the pro model have a native pcvr option, because that isn't subsidized like the standard models. We have flawless optics at this point but can't use them with native pcvr because meta. That's what bothers me.
If the Quest 3 had native PCVR, I'd pay 2 to 3x it's cost. Which is essentially the original Quest Pro price range. The Aero is great, don't get me wrong - but it's hard to go back to any compromises in optics when you've seen perfect optics. For Meta, the quest pro was a financial flop (doesn't mean it's not an excellent headset.) For the quest pro 2, it makes business sense to add a native displayport for both the prosumer and business audience. Heck, most people use their Quest pro for PCVR anyway. This would allow a choice of wireless, or native and would immediately be the best native headset, assuming it's not extremely uncomfortable.
TLDR - the technology is there for flawless PCVR optics, but we can't use it to it's full capabilities.

I run a role play server, just starting out so low pop and I recognize most names, no whitelist or anything since we are trying to grow (Sofa_king on PS btw). Here's my what was the point... Couple randoms when I logged on yesterday, got alert one was in a safe area so I went to go say hi. As I'm heading his way I get another alert of dismantled watchtower, but whatever no biggie I'm on my way to see what he's up to anyways. Before I make it to him I get a discord message that a members base alarm went off and new guys name triggered it. Then he builds a watchtower to boost over persons base dismantled all their tents, and put everything in their truck... We meet on the road, I'm in Humvee he's in cargo so pushes me right out the way. I turn up my mic and do all the "hey stop buddy, server has rules and you broke them. Stop let's talk, I'm about to ban you etc etc. I wanted to talk but he didn't clearly, I waited for my laptop to boot up and I banned him.
So what was his point? Where was he gonna go? I haven't found any server yet that boosting is allowed so they knew they were breaking rules right away, even if they didn't know about no base raids. the group are all given a weapon and are given a head start to run into the woods to hide from the killer who is hunting them, whilst this is going on the rich people are located in a cabin and are placing bets on who will survive/win. i remember one of the victims buried himself to hide from the killer and another had a pair of night vision goggles on, towards the end it all comes down to this one women who wins and has to build a gun to kill the killer, she kills him and gets away from the so called arena area and ends up on a road.
at the end the women is completely exhausted and faints on the side of the road and is found by a blue mini van.
basically its just like ready or not but one man after a group of people… im 75% sure it is NOT the hunt but that’s the EXACT same premise to a T.

In summary, I was walking home from work yesterday afternoon and the green man was lit so we thought it was safe to walk across midway from crossing the road a Garda car came out of nowhere and drove through t the red light, I get if it was an emergency then they would have a valid reason to do this but they had no blue lights or sirens on, they were soon to apologize but the driving is just getting worse by the day. Serendipity would have it that in the final stages of editing my manuscript I learn about the Berkley open submission call (thanks to u/cogitoergognome for that, by the way). Nothing like a deadline to focus my efforts! Plus, I've spent the past month or two analyzing and critiquing other people's query letters, and have learned an immense amount, so I want to fulfill my promise and offer up my own work in turn. A few questions I'd like you all to consider:
-Is it advisable for me to pitch my novel as having "picaresque elements"? It's the best descriptor I could come up with, given the novel's inspirations (for example, I would've put Michael Chabon's Gentlemen of the Road as a comp if it wasn't too old). Is picaresque still marketable at this point?
-The most iffy part of the whole query for me is the last blurb paragraph, which I've struggled with. It's mostly there to convey that the novel has no central "antagonist" other than the main characters' own awfulness, and to a lesser extent the banality of the world around them. Do I need to modify anything about this paragraph to get that idea across, or just get rid of it entirely?
-I was considering the idea of mentioning in my bio that I'm on the autism spectrum, but I don't want to make it seem like I'm using that as some kind of gimmick or angle. Is it advantageous or disadvantageous for me to mention it, or does it not actually make much of a difference?

KASURA: A TALE OF SURVIVAL is a 119,000-word fantasy novel with picaresque elements, à la Candide by way of Conan the Barbarian. It concerns a trio of misanthropes on a fruitless quest for purpose, navigating both a brutal desert world and their own personal failings. It will appeal to readers of desert fantasy such as C.L. Clark’s The Unbroken and stories with the grim atmosphere of Hannah Kaner’s Godkiller.
Gera knows better than anyone: in the desert world of Kasura, the only victory is survival. A deformed hunchback enslaved from birth to a subterranean prison-city, only two things have kept him alive: his aptitude for languages, and an alchemical alteration preventing him from speaking any falsehood. Embittered by a lifetime of abuse, his sole desire is a peaceful life on the surface.
Opportunity arises when Ayyad, a young one-handed amnesiac prisoner, disrupts the prison arena’s gladiatorial battles with forbidden magic. Gera takes advantage of the ensuing chaos by recruiting both him and another prisoner: Vn’ab, an exiled noblewoman with unparalleled fighting skills and a remorseless disposition. Together they mount a desperate escape to the world above.

A thin sickly ray of light framed Gera as he stood behind the black iron gateway, peering out at the arena. There a gigantic spider, the length of two men end-to-end, devoured the swiftly-liquefying remains of a fighting-man. The spider, nicknamed “Old Hairfinger,” had been concealed in a pit beneath the sands, and its sudden emergence was startling to some, comical to most. A minor diversion at the start of the day’s bouts.
A minute ago, its meal had been “Urvam the Hawk-Snake,” mighty warrior of the canyonlands and would-be revolutionary. A “hero,” some called him.
Such was the fate of all heroes: to be consumed. As if they were never born.
Gera watched, somewhat disinterested. He heard, or felt, rather, the chants of the assembled crowd above, vibrations pulsing through the stone walls. The sun-dwellers from the surface had come down to the Pit, paying their entrance fee with bits of metal or shapestone. There, in the huge alcoves above, they came to see the strongest and most cunning of the undercity satisfy their bloodlust. To fight and, frequently, to perish.
None were there to see Gera, of course. They wouldn’t be. He was only a purpletongue, as imprisoned as the rest of the undercity. He was born a prisoner, and, he expected, would die as one.
He listened to their jeers, delivered in a dozen tongues, all known to him. His knack for languages served him well. Little else did: he was a most unsightly thing, with his misshapen hunched back, his flat nose, his bulbous eyes, his wet, jagged voice, and of course his tongue, deep purple and ever-wriggling.

I wrote this for a writing prompt in writingprompts, but not many people will see it because the prompt is a little old. I just wanted to share. Wrote during breaks at work so forgive me if it’s a little rough around the edges.

I watched her through her kitchen window.
She stood by the sink—wine glass in her hand, gently swirling it as she looked at her phone. God, she was pretty tonight. The yellow kitchen light cast a glow upon her skin, and I swear she was the brightest thing in the room—more so even than the bulb itself. Fishnet lace snaked up her legs, red as summer wine, and her bathrobe parted just enough at the top to tease—just enough to draw your attention to it so that she could playfully scold you for looking.
It’s what she did.
I knew what she was waiting for, though. This was the first night he hadn’t shown up in over a week.
I didn’t get it. That guy—the guy who tracks muddy boots through the house, the guy that smokes cigarettes in the laundry room even when she specifically tells him not to, the guy who hasn’t touched a single dirty dish in as long as he’d been there—a dirty anything for that matter, and he’s the one she swoons for? Fucking bastard. That’s all he was. A dirty fucking bastard that didn’t deserve a woman even half as nice as my Caitlyn.
No, she didn’t get it—really, she didn’t and it made me feel kind of sorry for her. God, I mean if she only knew the things I’d do for her—the things that we have in common. We would be so happy together.
I like to read just like she does, the same genres and everything. I even picked up the book she started last week, and it’s already one of my favorites. She likes to jog; I like to jog; she likes binging shows; I like binging shows. Both of us have a horrible sweet tooth as well. I can never help but smile at the thought of that.
Now, it’s three hours past eight, which was the time that he was supposed to arrive. She’d moved to the couch and was lying on her back, letting one leg dangle to the floor. Blue light from the TV illuminated her features in the dark of the room, and it wasn’t difficult to tell that she was upset. God, I hate to see her cry.
Occasionally, she would glance over. She would peer out the window with that sad face and look in my direction. At first, I thought she was trying to see over me, to look over the hedge and into the trees behind her drive. After a few of her glances, though, I wasn’t sure anymore. I was almost convinced that she noticed me and was looking directly at me.
Maybe she needed me. Perhaps this was her way of saying, “Come get me, Richard.” And what if it was? What if this was my chance, and I missed it because I thought about it too hard? Maybe she knew I’d been out here, watching all along, for all this time. If that was the case, then she surely knew that I wouldn’t be able to resist those watery eyes.
It was time—time to be the man she needed—to finally confess my love for her, then hold her tight in my arms as she did the same.
I straightened myself—no more hiding. No more lurking in the shadows while she filled the void in her heart with all of these other worthless men. It was time she had a real man, a man who cared.
I walked to the door. For a second, I wondered if she’d left it unlocked for me. She’d done that before and pretended she was asleep whenever I made my way inside. She always did like to tease like that. I almost just opened it and walked straight in, but on second thought, I figured it might’ve been a little jarring. I decided to knock instead.
My throat felt as tight as a fist. Why was I so nervous? She loved me; I knew she did, but still, I was nervous. Sweat beaded down the side of my face like condensation. I wiped it away with my sleeve and took a deep breath. This was it. In a few moments, I’d finally have my Caitlyn. I’d finally hold her in my arms like I’d always dreamed.
I brought my fist to the door, and my stomach tightened into a knot.
Just as I was about to do it, I heard gravel crunch in the distance.
Quickly, I darted back into the safety of the shadows. I could see two bright headlights through the trees as they bounced down the dirt road.
It was him—the old Chevy Silverado with the silver toolbox in the back.
Of course, it had to be him.
He’d messed up this time, though; there was no way she’d forgive him now, not after tonight. With a smirk, I watched, wondering what kind of pitiful attempt he’d make to try and win her back this time, knowing that whatever it was wouldn’t be enough. Then he stepped out of his truck.
He was covered in black grease from head to foot and wore a mechanic uniform. He held something small in his arms, something with a bright red bow tied around its neck. It was hard to tell, but it looked like a little black lab from where I stood. Trustingly, it pressed its head against his chest and darted its eyes around the new scenery.
He walked up the porch steps. He was going to knock, but before he could, Caitlyn flung the door inward and glared at him. As much as I hated how she felt, that twisted expression of anger she shot him gave me more joy than I could’ve imagined. That joy was only fleeting, though. The man flashed a smile as he looked down at his arms, rubbing the puppy’s head. It melted the expression right off of her face.
“Oh my God!” She squealed, happily shuffling her feet as she held her arms out.
I was appalled. A puppy? A little dog and all of his sins are erased?
The two of them seemed so giddy together. They laughed and hugged and spoke in high voices to the puppy while they rubbed its head. The whole scene made me sick to my stomach if you really want to know the truth.
I don’t know how he did it—how he managed to weasel his way back into her heart and occupy the space that was so rightfully mine—truly, I didn’t. Who knows, maybe it was all an act. Perhaps it was her way of telling me, “you should’ve knocked.” And now, this was my punishment.
Maybe I should’ve. Maybe then I could’ve been the one to answer that door. A puppy wouldn’t soften my eyes, not like hers. I failed her, I know, but I will not fail her again. That is the last night he will ever come knocking on her door. I’m certain of it.
