2024.05.29 04:14 philmonroe7 GE Cafe Double Oven Induction Range - Fault 202

It seems that my GE Cafe Double Oven Induction Range immediately shows a Fault 202 whenever it is turned on (even at room temperature), and the ovens will not work. I bought the range for Black Friday last year, so it is about six months old. Reading online, it seems like the error code is related to the oven thinking it is overheating and likely caused by the temperature sensor being faulty. I've tried restarting the oven multiple times by turning the circuit breaker off for extended periods of time, and then back on again.
Can anyone confirm what Fault 202 means?

2024.05.29 02:23 rwhal06 Detect animals *other than* my cat and turn on a sprinkler

(Please refrain from unhelpful answers like: relocate, give your cat away, or keep her indoors. Thanks. šŸ˜ƒ)
I have a pet cat who often spends time outside.
Stray cats in the neighborhood sometimes come to our yard and attack her.
I want our front and back yards to be safe places for her.
I want to buy a system that deters those other cats but ideally doesn't bother our cat.
(A simple motion-activated sprinkler system would not achieve my goal because it would prevent our cat from enjoying our yard, even while no other cats are around.)
I've seen amazing products with video camera AI image recognition.
Are there some that can detect whether an animal other than my cat (and excluding humans and birds) is within view and then activate some deterrent (e.g. a sprinkler and/or ultrasonic repellent speaker) and send a message to my Amazon Alexa / Echo and Slack?
I'd want the presence of humans (such as delivery people or me) in the view to pause the device.
Would this work? And is there an easier way (even if without HomeAssistant)?
Buy:
(I'm not even sure whether those last 2 exist, which is discouraging.)

Importing Yokohama 165/70 R10 A032R tires into the US
I ordered a set of Yokohama 165/70 R10 A032R from Minispares, and they're stuck in customs. DHL is asking me to fill out the DOT's HS7 form to help it clear. I'm starting to go down the rabbit hole of understanding what that all means and what the status of those tires are and how best to respond, but thought I might try and short circuit all that research and ask the community.
Have you imported those tires into the US before? What did you have to do to be successful?
Does anyone have the background for this form and/or these tires that can explain to me why they are getting flagged?
Thx.

2024.05.29 00:07 Correct_Secret1789 I need to find a powerbank, preferably with a solar power charging functionality, so I can try to use it in public places and it must be functional to charge my laptop

my laptop model is the HP Elitebook X360 1030 g2, https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05355646, which uses the following power specifications:
Power supply: HP 65 W Smart AC Adapter HP 65 W Smart AC Adapter EM HP 65 W Smart USB Type-C AC Adapter
Primary Battery: HP 3-cell Long Life Li-Ion polymer (57 WHr) (supports battery fast charge)
and this seems to be the official equivalent powerbank required to be able to charge it: https://support.hp.com/hr-en/document/c05742765 <- this is my laptop's compatible's powerbank configurations:

Product specifications

  4. Zendure SuperTank 26800mAh: Known for its robust build and reliability, this power bank supports up to 100W output via USB-C PD, which is more than adequate for your laptop and future-proof for other high-power devices.
  5. Omni 20+ Portable Power Bank: This versatile power bank offers multiple output options, including a 60W USB-C PD port, and has a 20,000 mAh capacity. Itā€™s a bit pricier but offers more flexibility.
Before purchasing, double-check the power bank's specifications to ensure they match or exceed the power requirements of your HP Elitebook X360 1030 G2. Additionally, consider the recharge time, weight, and any additional features like pass-through charging, which allows you to charge the power bank and your laptop simultaneously."
so while looking for the second option, the RAVPower 20000mAh 60W PD 3.0 Power Bank, I found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/283957361370?itmmeta=01HZ0JE5X7XJPMY3PNRX6N5JW1&hash=item421d2d7ada:g:PKgAAOSw1U1fGhCM Technical Specification:
Battery Type: Li-Polymer Battery
Capacity: 20000mAh
Input: DC 5V/2A, total 3.0A
Solar Panel: 5V/300mA
Waterproof Rating: IPX4
could this work for charging a laptop on the go?? what should I be looking for precisely, to attend all my needs? now that I found this type of solution??? what type of powerbank/solar panel charger system do I need for this? also if it could escalate some more wattage, like say 100 watts, so that I could charge other devices aswell, because I'm gonna use this for bikepacking trips.

2024.05.28 23:15 Sockhousestudios 2nd attempt at Pyanodons. Here's what I've learned

For starts I feel like going back to vanilia will feel trivial.
I've just unlocked trains and began stock piling alloys in preparation to convert base to a railed setup. Here's my advice to new players starting out.
  1. Don't try to scale early, you will simply go mad. You don't need a full belt of every resource early game. Setup a modest amount of production and stockpile as you learn the ropes of Py, then figure out what you are lacking and scale up.
  2. Get comfortable with rebuilding. You will be unlocking more efficient means of production all the time.
  3. You can never have too much space. Even the smallest ampunt of production can take a huge amount of space. And before you get trains you will be belting everywhere. Make sure you leave enough room for everything.
  4. Don't be in a huge rush to get out of the burner phase. Electric miners have huge power draw, and more power = more ash.
  5. Caravans are actually a pretty good substitute for trains. I wish I started using them sooner.
  6. Fish turbines are actually really good for power production, while they aren't going to be used as your main source of power they are able to significantly reduce your ash production.
  7. Hand feeding is ok. Especially when unlocking new tech. I found it wasnt always worth the trouble to automate everything as soon as I unlocked it. Is it convenient to do so? Sure, but I didn't always know what was going to be useful and when. For example circuits was such a huge design challenge when I first unlocked it that I felt it was better to automate the components where it made sense. Stock pile a bunch of the ingredients then make ciruits as needed through hand feeding at my hub.
  8. Tar is more important than you might think and is worth stockpiling at least a tailings pond worth.
  9. A good use for extra stone from ore processing, or just mining it is converting it to landfill, since it takes a huge amount of stone. Alternatively you can turn it into bricks since the stack size goes to 1000 and you can easily convert it back to stone at the cost of some electricity. I would imagine this is great later on in the game in order to move huge amounts of stone.
  10. A todo list is mandatory. For a couple reasons. The amount you have to do is insane and you will likely forget between playthroughs. Secondly it helps break these massive production tasks into smaller objectives. Now you can take automating py science 1 down into several steps where you can accomplish each step within an hour or two instead of stressing about playing for 8 hours and still not having the end goal done.
  11. Seems stupid but always think about what should be automated next to save your sanity. #10 helps with this. But I found at certain points I was procrastinating on automating production chains by just running around and tending to hand feeding for really no reason. (Really it was because the new tech seemed too complicated) Hence break things down into micro tasks. Py is a marathon. Not a sprint.
What do you agree / disagree with? Any other tips for newbies?

2024.05.28 22:56 EldritchElvis Noob question about nuclear power

Hey all, I'm still playing my first playthrough (+- 40 hours in) and recently went into a restructuration of my factory to organise things better. I unlocked the first 4 science packs but am still rebuilding into a main bus style of factory so everything is not ready for more science production yet.
I have a question concerning power. I wished to test producing my power with Solar panels and accumulators, and while it works, it's quite space-consuming and my production barely holds against my power needs, and I have only built my Iron, Copper, Stone and Coal processing buildings (furnaces and drills), as well as 5 assembly lines for the production of green circuits. I could go back to steam engines but I'd rather avoid fiddling with coal belts again if I can.
I could just build more solar panels as I go but it's time consuming. I have the ressources since I still have 1000+ batteries from my previous base, but it doesn't seem efficient. I researched Uranium processing and could research Nuclear Reactor when my science labs are setup, since I have a big uranium field nearby. However I don't know how productive a single reactor might be compared to solar panels and steam engines. Would it be worth it to stockpile the ressources to build one ? How much power does a single reactor provide ?
Thanks in advance, having a blast in the game discovering things as I go while reading a tip here and there.

2024.05.28 20:56 NurseWizzle MoCA network just went down home-wide

OK this is going to sound really dumb but our entire MoCA network just went down and I have NO idea how to troubleshoot it. I have had this thing hooked up and running for several years now with no issues.
The problem lately has been, I have my entire network rack and a portable air conditioner on one circuit in my house. As luck would have it, the only outlet I have outside for my power tools is the same circuit the network equipment and air conditioner are on, and I frequently will trip the breaker when using my table saw. I don't have any other options on which outlet outside to use my power tools but I DO have other outlets in my office I can plug in network rack in to. So... I did. And now, for some reason, my MoCA is broken.
So here is what I have...
Currently this is how I have it hooked up:
Obviously the connection is working as I am currently on the internet as we speak, from my work computer. The only thing I can think of now to troubleshoot is there being an issue between the ethernet switch and the MoCA adapter, either a cable or the switch itself. Well, I have tried about a dozen ethernet cables and three different ethernet switches. I have tried using every single port on all of the switches and that doesn't seem to work. I have even tried my backup MoCA adapters (I have an extra GoCoax and also an old Netgear one). The POWER and LAN lights light up, but the MOCA light does not, and nowhere else in the house is getting a signal through the MoCA adapters.
Please, please if anyone can offer any ideas it would be appreciated, as my wife and I work from home and need to be able to have internet!

Understanding and Stopping Frequency Drift for an Astable Multivibrator Circuit
Reference Circuit
I've rebuilt the astable multivibrator as shown here on a PCB with surface mount components. I followed the PCB design layout guide for the 8-VSSOP package, with the electrolytic and SMT chip capacitor. I need to run this circuit for several days at a time for my application, so I probed its output with an oscilloscope for about a week to test its consistency. I realized that the frequency of the output changes over time. I'm seeing about a 7 percent increase in frequency with no external changes to the circuit over the course of the week, which is unacceptable. It's being powered at 3.3V from a benchtop power supply. It seems turning the circuit on and off doesn't "reset" the frequency back to the original target. I have no idea why this is occurring and would appreciate any guidance on how I can stop this drift. I did notice that the rate that which the frequency is drifting is reducing with time.
edit: I didn't clearly mention that I swapped out the ne555 to the LMC555, https://www.ti.com/product/LMC555?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=asc-null-null-GPN_EN-cpc-pf-google-wwe&utm_content=LMC555&ds_k=LMC555&DCM=yes&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwgdayBhBQEiwAXhMxtjD_9uU2T6mXjMmmid8XxGmhU9XDO5ZDkQ4ue8z3PW7J0U5oqKy4sRoCU-YQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

2024.05.28 20:54 jarlaxle_baenre_ Hiby R4 Review - The Boss Has Lost It

Hiby R4 Review - The Boss Has Lost It
Pros:
  • Price
  • Design and color choices (Reminds me of Evangelion Mechas)
  • Lively and colorful sound
  • Class A amplification
  • Sound customization and enhancement options
Cons:
  • Runs warm
Remember when Hiby released the M300 under a new brand, Hiby Digital? That one was in the same vein as later Sony A Series Walkmans and became quite popular. But thatā€™s old news now. The new rage is the R4. Has Hiby finally lost it, releasing such a feature-packed product for only $249?
https://preview.redd.it/bvhi3g0tr73d1.jpg?width=1886&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f9bdab1e928d2cf226570e8f11c7a38e1cf956c

Disclaimers

Hiby R4, along with their Project Ace, was sent to me by Hiby as part of the Turkey Tour of the Audio Geek Review Group. I donā€™t get to keep these tour units, even at the end of the tour. As I always say, everyone is biased one way or another, so take everything you read with a grain of salt. Also, I will try to be more concise and to the point in my reviews from now on without worrying about the word count, etc. If you have any questions, please ask me in the comments, and I will try to answer them to the best of my abilities. Additionally, I will be copying some parts from my earlier Hiby R6 Pro II review, as they are pretty much valid for this review as well.

About Hiby

Hiby was founded in 2011, according to their website, and apparently, has even more experience in the audio field. They are mostly known for their Digital Audio Players, but they also make DAC/Amps and earphones. However, what sets Hiby apart from other manufacturers is their expertise in software. Their UIs, apps, and connection protocol, Hiby Link, are used even by other brands.

Design and Packaging of Hiby R4

With a cyberpunk theme, Hiby hits several birds with one stone. First, they made their target audience obvious, in this case, younger audiophiles. They also lowered the cost with relatively cheap construction and could get away with it. The device has sharp corners, and rubber is used here and there. The 04 number is apparent on the packaging and the device. There are four color choices: Orange, Silver, Green, and Black. The color I got is the most boring one, Silver. Honestly, this Evangelion vibe is what attracted me to the R4.
https://preview.redd.it/5zyn2ybqr73d1.jpg?width=1640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d5c85ee9e541e8726ec9673307b7d793b138e70
The Hiby R4 comes in a simple but stylish package. Inside, you are welcomed with the DAP, and at the back, you get a TPU case, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and spare screen protectors. Although it sounds modest, I donā€™t really need anything else. Higher-end DAPs come with more cables and stuff, but I rarely use them anyway.

Hardware of Hiby R4

So most people choose their DAPs and DACs based on the DAC chips inside. In the case of the R4, 4 ES9018C2M chips are used for digital-to-analog conversion. The amplification circuit consists of 4 OP1652 and 2 OP1612 operational amplifiers. The R4 only works in Class A amplification by default, which can be a downside if you donā€™t like your electronics running warm or want more battery life. The maximum power output of the device is 165 mW from single-ended and 525 mW from balanced.
https://preview.redd.it/ofjcwtb4s73d1.jpg?width=2166&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0345421b28f8d176258c2feb6f1ac962d536dff
Being a budget-oriented device, the Hiby R4 offers 3 GB of RAM memory and 32 GB of internal storage, but as usual, you can store up to 2 TB of music or data with an SD Card.
The 4.7ā€ IPS 720p screen on the R4 isnā€™t exactly flagship-level, but it's more than enough for regular operation of a DAP.
The R4 supports the usual wireless and wired connectivity options, namely WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB, and Coaxial through USB-C output. Analog outputs include 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced. There are no separate line outputs. The device also supports DLNA, Airplay, and their own Hiby Link protocols, as well as Hiby Cast remote control. It can render X16 MQA too, if thatā€™s important to you. Iā€™m pretty sure there are others I forgot to mention.
https://preview.redd.it/6oik7wb7s73d1.jpg?width=2307&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4efb1904b37bc9380f2e28370d987ed8bd410601
So all of these yield virtually no distortion and noise. I didnā€™t really test the battery life, but Hiby promises 11 hours of runtime with 3.5 mm single-ended output. All I can say is that the battery has a longer life than my R6 Pro II, so through balanced, I can say 9-10 hours of playback is what you can expect.

Software and UI

The Hiby R4 uses an open Android 12.0, which means you can download any 3rd party apps you want, and it should receive app updates for quite a while. Hiby Music comes pre-installed as the default music player, and I didnā€™t need to use any other music app since I mostly stream my music.
https://preview.redd.it/gt68yxa9s73d1.jpg?width=1790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73667ed79f4d1cfa797daf8e024cbf7a57de2700
The UI is customized by Hiby for the intended use case. It is not too different from the usual Android experience, but changing audio controls like adjusting gain and amplification type is especially very easy. Hiby also offers four different themes for you to choose from. All of them looked great in their own way, so I had a hard time choosing one. The UI is pretty fast. I only saw it stuttering when loading album art, thatā€™s all.
Hibyā€™s own MSEB (Mage Sound 8-ball Tuning) is an EQ-based easy sound adjustment mechanism. If using EQ is intimidating for you, playing with MSEB can ease you into it. I think itā€™s a great feature. Here is the list that shows how each choice affects the sound:
1 -- Overall Temperature: a tilt of the whole line towards treble (cool) or bass (warm)
2 -- Bass extension 70Hz and below
3 -- Bass texture 100Hz (medium)
4 -- Note thickness 200Hz (wide)
5 -- Vocals 650Hz (very wide)
6 -- Female overtones 3kHz (tight)
7 -- Sibilance LF 5.8kHz (medium)
8 -- Sibilance HF 9.2kHz (medium)
9 -- Impulse response 7.5kHz (very wide)
10 - Air 10kHz sloped all the way to 20kHz
https://preview.redd.it/0x85crher73d1.jpg?width=2245&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a83def07facedfbadd503eca525a245d5f2fab6
Like other Hiby DAPs of late, R4 also has Parametric Equalizer. There are also plugins you can play with. Hiby sent me some samples to try, like soundstage enhancement and crossfeed. I know some of you like unaltered sound, but when it comes to software, you have got to respect Hiby.

Sound of Hiby R4

I have to be honest; for digital audio players, I value functionality more than sound, unless the device sounds straight up bad, and Iā€™m happy to announce R4 doesnā€™t sound bad at all. It doesnā€™t have the sound of a flagship, of course, it doesnā€™t. But during my time testing it, I never felt like Iā€™m missing something.
The Hiby R4 has a colorful and lively sound. You can say itā€™s slightly V-shaped. Bass is definitely emphasized, and by a big margin. Other than that, it doesnā€™t sound particularly harsh or glaring. Details and spaciousness arenā€™t top-notch, but more than enough unless you arenā€™t analyzing your music. Letā€™s move on to comparison for more context.

Comparisons

Hiby R4 vs. Hiby R6 Pro II

https://preview.redd.it/6arbfui0r73d1.jpg?width=2253&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e796f7259b672bd0d22647395d100b507ed21e95
I know itā€™s not exactly fair, but the only comparable DAP I had in my hand at the time of the review was my R6 Pro II. Still, the R4 held its ground pretty well.
  • Bass is more impactful on R4.
  • R6 Pro II is more controlled and well-defined.
  • R4 is more colorful and vivid, just like a contrast-maxed TV. R6 Pro IIā€™s rendition is more natural and effortless. Timbre is also better on R6 Pro II.
  • R6 Pro II has more air, feels more spacious, and separates better. R4 sounds a little blunted compared to that.
  • R6 Pro II is more detailed, which is no surprise. It keeps its composure during complex passages while R4 tumbles a little.

Hiby R4 vs. Fiio KA5

https://preview.redd.it/p5a76mczq73d1.jpg?width=2291&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f78d6d720c419304391a0b1e7b53b460acd6bee
I assume a lot of people will be looking to buy R4 as their first DAP, so coming from a decent dongle, they might be wondering what they will gain, so I compared R4 to my FiiO KA5.
  • R4 has more body and note weight. KA5 sounds cleaner and has slightly better timbre.
  • KA5 has more sub-bass extension.
  • R4 has more energy and bite.
  • KA5 is slightly more airy. Details and spaciousness also feel slightly better on KA5.

Conclusion

The Hiby R4 gets my first full 5 stars. Not because it sounds much better than anything else, but because it does everything I care for right. It has a lively sound that you will enjoy when you are out and about. It has a cool design (Yes, EVA bias). It has great power and amplification. It uses a good processing chip and has a fast UI. It has sound customization and enhancement options like PEQ, MSEB, and plug-ins. And most importantly, it does all of this for only $249. So the verdict? Iā€™m planning to buy a unit for myself later!

I quit my job as a rocket scientist in Buffalo & now Westside Gunn is rocking my clothing.
TLDR; I made a custom WWE jacket for Westside Gunn & got to give it to him at Wrestlemania Weekend.
Don't listen to your parents, go do that thing you're passionate about. I left my job as an aerospace engineer in September of 2023 to pursue a career in fashion and as of April 2024; my work has endorsed by some of my favorite artists. The best example being that of the 'Fly God' himself.
I grew up watching Jeff Hardy fly through the air, Rey Mysterio swing through the ropes & the Undertaker pile people in to the floor. A love that turned in to years of studying martial arts and training to mimic the men I looked up to. Like anyone who "grows up" you're told to leave the toys behind...
But that's just it, what makes us unique are the things that pull us back to our childhood and my venture in to the arts has been focused on just that; what would the younger me create?
This past January my brother's and I took some [undisclosed substance] at my studio & enjoyed the Royal Rumble as we did when we were kids (minus the psychoactive stuff). Being from Buffalo, NY there are few bigger names around than Westside Gunn, co-founder of Griselda Records, who also happens to be a huge WWE fan.
Who else do we spot Ringside other than Westside? Ringside Gunn, Ringside Gunn, Ringside Gunn.
Hit by a moment of inspiration I immediately get up and get to work on a piece I had no final vision for.
It started off with tailoring the recycled workwear jacket, hemming the length and creating a boxier fit with some jean finish. Then I hit it with a custom Westside graphic where I infused the WWE logo to his name; printed that all over it, sick. Then for the statement piece, the knockout blow; a rare WWE tapestry that I cut & sew on to the jacket to create a Good v. Evil narrative. We've all got duality inside us, it only makes to wear it on our sleeves as well.
The result? Randy Orton & John Cena facing off for eternity while CM Punk and my boy Rey Mysterio watch your back.
Well great, now I have the jacket, but how do I get it in Westside's hands?
That's where the universe (goD) comes in. So many things had to happen in order for the connection to be made, but the work my team at Buffalo Fashion Runway and I had done the 6 months prior laid the foundation for an unforgettable weekend.
After asking for a shipping address, we were told to instead hand deliver the piece; phew, okay. The four of us hop in the car & set out for Westside's 'HEELS HAVE EYES' event during Wrestle-mania Weekend in Philadelphia. After a 6 hour drive we landed in the city of brotherly love and jumped straight to the show. Nothing could've prepared us for what's next.
We were ushered to the green room backstage, emphasis on green. There couldn't have been a working smoke detector in that place for years, I could barely see across the room. Casually meeting living icons through a hazy fog; The Alchemist, DJ Drama, Conductor Williams sat on the couch like the Mount Rushmore of Musical Production. Then I head him, a voice so singular that god himself could recognize it; game time. We descended some stairs that felt infinite and at the bottom stood our future; a man so centered in his consciousness you could feel it a state over.
Can you imagine what it feels like to hand a man an upcycled jacket while he's wearing a full Louis Vuitton fit with a MF Doom pendant so big that you could mistake it for the man himself? Humbling. Lasting for a minute but feeling like a lifetime I got to present the piece & talk a little about what we do in Buffalo. His reaction was something I could've only dreamt of; true elation and appreciation. Walking away from the interaction I wasn't sure I'd ever see the jacket again, but it didn't matter; we were welcomed in to the event like family, our ticket being the work we put in week after week for our city.
Fast forward a couple weeks and I wake up to an instagram post by Westside wearing the piece next to Benny the Butcher & The Alchemist. A full post focused solely on the jacket and in that moment I felt the same elation and appreciation I like to think he had when we met. It's not an eye for an eye, but rather when an eye sees an eye that shares a similar mind.
So what's the point of this post? I don't really know. I guess I want to inspire you to do something similar. To sit in a quiet room and listen to that voice inside of you. Or maybe you just like that jacket, or maybe you hate the jacket and love Rey Mysterio. I'd love to know what you'd do different, or the same, or not at all. Regardless, we all have a common ground to meet upon & I hope to someday meet anyone who read this and stepped on to their own path.
The full interaction between Westside and I can be found through my profile.
I'm currently creating 4 more jackets inspired by this personal cannon event, each containing one of the four wrestlers on the original (Orton, Cena, CM Punk & Rey). They won't be available directly to the public, but be on the look out for part 2. God bless each and every one of you.

2024.05.28 16:19 Daynedk23 Help with fog for lighting in a Cinema

I am part of a team that runs a church production in a standard movie cinema. We run a total of 15 fixtures including washers, beams and spots. I know the venue has some sort of smoke/fire detectors, but I have no idea what we could get away with ito smoke or fog.
Could someone steer me in the right direction regarding this? What questions should I ask the cinema management? What types of alarms are sensitive to the standard fog machine smoke?
Any direction is much appreciated!

2024.05.28 15:07 HumbrolUser Robot grass cutter, how does the guide wire work?

My question is really about making sense of how a repairman manages to check for a point of failure, like a cut wire, when the repairman uses an instrument along the wire.
I though, me not being an electrician, that in order for there to be electricity going around a circuit, there has to be a loop, and so what I don't understand, is how a repairman can use a detector device to find a location along the guide wire/cable where there is a cut.
Q: How would such a wire in the ground, when cut, give off any signals when the loop is broken with a cut in the wire?
I have read that one can supposedly use an FM/AM radio with AM radio set to ca 700kHz to detect noise off the wire, and find a break/cut in the wire that way (when the noise stops at the cut, and having the other end of the wire/cable detatched iirc). Reportedly one would be listening for a pulsing noise along the wire, until the noise goes away where you find the first cut, but I don't understand why the wire would give off any noise if the wire/cable is no longer a completed loop.

2024.05.28 14:46 maxikaz19 What crypto is linked to nvidia?

NVIDIA is closely linked to various cryptocurrencies due to its production of high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), which are essential for the mining process of many cryptocurrencies. The most notable of these cryptocurrencies is Ethereum. Ethereum's mining algorithm, Ethash, is memory-intensive and well-suited for NVIDIA GPUs, making these GPUs highly sought after by Ethereum miners. This demand surged during periods when Ethereum's value spiked, leading to increased sales and shortages of NVIDIA GPUs.
Another significant cryptocurrency linked to NVIDIA is Bitcoin, though indirectly. While Bitcoin mining is predominantly performed using specialized hardware known as ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits), the initial stages of Bitcoin mining, especially in the early days, were conducted using GPUs. NVIDIA's GPUs played a role during that period before the shift to ASICs.
In addition to Ethereum and Bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies like Ravencoin, Beam, and Grin, which use GPU-friendly algorithms, are also linked to NVIDIA. These coins can be efficiently mined using NVIDIA GPUs due to their high computational power and efficiency in processing parallel tasks.
NVIDIA's role in the cryptocurrency market isn't limited to hardware. The company has acknowledged the impact of cryptocurrency mining on its financial performance. For example, in its earnings reports, NVIDIA has attributed significant revenue increases to the demand from cryptocurrency miners.
Despite the controversies around the environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining, NVIDIA continues to develop and release GPUs that cater to both gamers and miners, balancing performance and efficiency. The company's GPUs remain a crucial component in the infrastructure supporting various blockchain technologies and the broader crypto ecosystem.

2024.05.28 13:17 RealConfirmologist Generators are not prohibitively expensive. Having one this summer could make a HUGE difference.

If you live in a structure where portable generators are not prohibited, you should look into getting one.
I don't know if they make a propane-only generator, so dual-fuel is the recommendation, but don't use gasoline. Gasoline is messy, more dangerous, and can't be stored long-term. Even with a stabilizer additive, gasoline will break down in months.
A $1,000 generator can run a 3 ton central air conditioning system, provided the A/C has a softstart kit installed. You can order a Westinghouse 9500 watt (12,500 peak) generator on Amazon for $999.
If you get an electrician to install an interlock and input breaker, you can run your whole house, or MOST of your house. You can turn off breakers for circuits you don't want to run on the generator, or just don't turn on stuff that might bog it down.
DO keep in mind that carbon monoxide gas in the exhaust is deadly and has no odor. You can NOT run a generator inside your attached garage or close to a door, window, or attic eave vents.
If you get a generator, get a couple of CO detectors. They're not expensive and can save lives.
You can get a used 100 lb. propane cylinder for less than a hundred bucks and a little dolly for it from Harbor Freight.
If you run it in a shed, same CO warning applies. You'll need a vent fan, fresh-air intake vent, and you should attach an exhaust extension and run it to the outside of the shed.
Be ready!

2024.05.28 12:48 Icy-Whole-8626 Suggestions on MS in DSP for audio systems

Hello everyone! I am currently in my final year in ECE with a specialization in Data Science in India and looking to do an MS in ECE in the US in the Fall 2025.
Since the start of my bachelor's, I've been interested in DSP, working on biomed signals, and completed a research project on maternal ECG signals. Earlier I was looking to go for Signal processing with ML in EEG signals as I am interested in EEG signals great deal. But now that I'm real close to start applying, I feel I should go for safer options as I am not confident whether I'll excel in ML related research field and if I'll find a job in the same after my MS. I am very much concerned about paying back my loan asap after my MS. So I am considering changing to a field in ECE which can get me jobs faster.
Another field in ECE I am very passionate about is the Audio field. I want to work in companies like Dolby, and others in product development. I am very interested in learning about how sound waves can affect the brain and ways to manipulate them for various uses. I am also interested in developing audio products for the same.
Now for this purpose, I feel a Master's degree in DSP with few electives in analog circuit design would be a great fit as I want to participate in both software as well as hardware(more software-oriented). I know this is a very big transition from my previous experience.
I would like to know if there are any other paths I can take for the same and any universities that offer the same in the US. Can someone suggest a roadmap to it?
Also, should I go for research/academia or industry considering the job market and ease of getting jobs?
