Recruiter told me that I would be disqualified, shit has me on edge man I just want to join the military already. This was from 2021 when I tried to join the army, I got disqualified because of this. 2024.05.12 13:09 skisnbikes La Cloche Site Photo and Description Database

Hey everyone,
I just got back from my annual post exam seaon La Cloche Silhouette hike a couple weeks ago, and this time I decided to hike into each site and take a look. I seem to always end up on the same couple sites, so this was an opportunity to see some parts of the park that I’d never seen before and get a few more kilometres out of the trail. And I figured if I was going to go check out all the sites, I might as well take some photos and write a quick description so other people can have access to it. For anyone curious, when I've completed the trail before, it was 78.2km by my watch if you skip sliver peak. This time, adding every site and still skipping silver peak, it was 99km. So the hike to each site added roughly 21km to the trip.
Unfortunately, some sites were occupied, and I didn’t want to disturb people, so there are some sites I missed. Currently, they are H1, H4, H5, H7, H35, H48. If anyone has photos or a description of one of those sites (or wants to add / make corrections to the photos or description I already have), I would greatly appreciate it (with credit, of course).
So, here is the link to the site: friesengear.com/la-cloche/
It seems to me that there have been a couple attempts to crowdsource these descriptions and images that are now offline. I’d like to avoid that, so instead of hosting the images on my own site, I’ve uploaded them to imgur and embedded them on my site to make it more readable. I've also posted direct links to each sites images here so that hopefully even if my site disappears, the images will still be accessable.

2024.05.01 22:27 koopa00 My review on downsizing from an M340i to an M240i (plus impressions of the i4 M50 and M3)

I recently made what some might consider a strange or pointless switch, going from one car to a nearly identical one just in a smaller package. I’ve only owned the 2023 M240i for around two weeks but I have a lot to say about it and other cars I'd considered the last 12 months. Apologies for the mountain of text, TLDR at the end.

Brief revisit of my M340i experience

The 2021 BMW M340i xDrive had been my daily driver for the last two years and for the most part had been a positive experience. My car had the following options:
*Premium Package (heated seats, heated steering wheel, HUD)
*Driving Assist Package (active cruise, not adaptive)
*Parking Assist Package (surround view cameras)
*Harman Kardon stereo
*Vernasca Leather

The Negatives: Nearly every car review you've read or seen on the M340i had adaptive suspension optioned, but unless you're in the market for one of these cars or already purchased one, you probably don't know how rare of an option it actually is. The option package I have listed above is the standard option package for one of these cars, with the one variable being the leather seats. As you can see, adaptive suspension is not in the list. This was an option that I initially was fine living without, but over time it began to wear on me. Maybe I'm just getting older and my back is more picky, but I've owned a lot of cars and I would say this probably had the the most unsettled suspension of any car I've owned and I didn't realize it until months into ownership. You felt every bump and crack in the road, causing the car to constantly rebound and create a lot of side-to-side movement. Worse than all of my Camaros, my C7 Corvette (the car I switched from), Chevy SS, or my E90 335i.
If you have one of these cars with the standard suspension and are looking to improve your experience, I can tell you that moving from run flat tires to non RFT will not make a huge difference. It will improve your comfort a bit, it will reduce road noise, and you won't have to worry about sidewall bulges any time there's a pothole you didn't see coming, but it won’t fix your problems. If you go on Bimmerpost, this is probably the #1 complaint on the car.

The Positives: I had a lot of nice things to say about my M340i in my initial review of the car, and after nearly two years of ownership that hasn't changed. It was an excellent car overall. It has plenty of power, a nice & quiet interior, very efficient, and very well put together. By all accounts, it's also a very reliable car. Anyone on the fence should give one a test drive even if you can't find one with adaptive suspension. Suspension comfort is highly subjective and you might be totally fine with it or you might live in a place with better roads than me. I also have a tendency of going through cars quickly. If you can get past the nose on the 4 series, the M440i gran coupe is arguably an even better package with the rear hatch.

BMW M Town Tour and my driving impressions of the i4 M50 and M3 Competition xDrive

I was starting to get tired of the suspension on my car last June and was looking for ways to improve things. At that same time, I had received an invite to a BMW driving event and that was the beginning of the end of my M340i ownership. I got the keys to an i4 M50 and an M3 Competition xDrive and these are my quick thoughts on those two cars:

i4 M50:
*Incredibly quick, like a seriously violent sensation of torque
*Comfy interior, I think the 4 series has more padding in the armrests and they are wider
*Rear air suspension made this car feel incredibly comfy and compliant
*The hatch is awesome
*Noticeably high floor in the rear due to the batteries
*It feels like a normal car even though it’s an EV

M3 Competition xDrive:
*Much nicer interior even though it’s mostly the same, full Merino leather really makes it feel more luxurious
*Incredibly comfortable seats
*Very compliant suspension that I found to be more comfortable than my M340i (this pissed me off)
*Loads of character
*Very fast with power all over the place - the S58 is insane

After the driving event, an M3 or M4 was on my short list and I’ve been watching the car market since. Unfortunately, they really haven’t depreciated that much and even a used one today is still going to run you around $80K. After nearly a year of shopping for one, I decided to go a different route instead of spending that much money. During my shopping I did notice that M4's could be had for less, around $5K typically. This is when I started looking at coupes again.
Back in the summer of 2021, I was looking to move on from my Chevy SS and ended up in a C7 Corvette. Before landing on the C7, the 2022 M240i xDrive was actually the car that was near the top of my list but because of supply constraints and COVID, it was nearly impossible to find. I liked the previous generation M240i but wanted the creature comforts the new platform offered (like a HUD). Fast forward to a few weeks ago and as luck would have it, a used 2023 M240i xDrive had popped up for sale near me. This car had every single option except leather seats. It also turns out that in the US, adaptive suspension is standard on this car (why isn't it standard on the M340i or M440i, BMW?)

My impressions of the G42 M240i compared to the G20 M340i

Comfort: On the test drive, I took the car to the shittiest road I knew of nearby and it was very apparent how much better this car felt. This has only become more noticeable as I've commuted in it and taken a few long drives, including an 80 mile drive straight to the coast. It’s just not in a constant state of confusion like the old car was. It's a significant improvement over the standard suspension.
The Sensatec offering from BMW is softer and more comfortable than the Vernasca I previously had. Vernasca is a tougher leather which is great for durability but it's not the most comfortable seat material that BMW offers. You can’t get ventilated seats which is a bummer, but the Sensatec seats are perforated and seem to breathe quite well. If Merino leather was an option, I would pick that over anything else BMW has.
I can't tell a difference in NVH and road noise, which was a welcome surprise considering the pillarless windows.
The backseats won't be as comfortable for other occupants. Big enough to use in a pinch or short trips, or if you have smaller occupants/kids they would probably be ok on a trip.
Visibility is excellent in this car. It's the first modern coupe I've owned where there is no compromise on visibility. Coupling that with blind spot monitors and the surround view cameras, it's perfect for daily driving.

Efficiency & Power: It’s the same drivetrain as the M340i so no surprise here, it’s excellent. My MPG in the M340i was 30mpg over 10K miles last year, and so far I’m pretty close to that here. If you can keep your foot out of it on road trips, you’ll easily improve on this. Even more so if you pop it into eco pro. This won’t help with efficiency, but it has an auto start/stop toggle button which the M340i didn’t have (you had to put it in sport mode to turn off auto start/stop).
One minor gripe is the gas tank isn't very big. I think the tank is about two gallons smaller than the 3/4 series cars. Not the end of the world though since it still gets great mileage.
The two cars have a nearly identical 0-60 and ¼ mile time. I think on paper they are within the margin of error. Seat of the pants feeling tells me the M240i is faster, but that's probably more due to the packaging of sitting in a lower and smaller car.

Styling: I love the way this car looks. With the ZTK package and the MPS4S tires on it, it has a great stance. There's not an angle to me where it doesn't look great, but I understand this is subjective. The M340i was also a great looking car.

Steering: It’s no secret that steering feel isn’t a strength in modern BMW’s. In my opinion, this is an overblown issue because it's just a problem with modern cars in general. It's probably highlighted more in BMW's because of how great they used to be. My E90 335i was amazing in this regard, probably better than every other car I've owned. It did come with its downsides though, like it was a kind of a pain in the ass at slow speeds in parking lots.
Folks on Bimmerpost swear that aftermarket monoballs can greatly improve this. This probably isn't something I'll be pursuing, but it's worth mentioning as an option.

Sound: There’s a lot more theater going on with this car than the M340i, at least the 2021+ cars. iDrive8 has improved piped in audio called Iconic Sounds, but even with that turned off and the windows down, the exhaust just sounds better and a little louder than the M340i. You get the bangs on shifts during hard driving which did not exist on my last car and there's a bit more burble going on but not in an obnoxious way.
The stereo is also great in this car just like the M340i. I've seen a lot of mixed opinions on the Harman Kardon sound system but personally, I love it. Maybe it's because I'm used to all the shitty Bose systems I've had in all of my GM vehicles over the years, most other sound systems would likely be an improvement over those.

Tech: ID8 is fine. I think the screen itself is nice to look at and I prefer the way they’ve done the digital gages on ID8 compared to ID7. ID7 really should have still had analog gages. The auto climate system is certainly an improvement over the old system and you really don’t have to fiddle with it much. With that said, there’s really no excuse for removing the physical buttons other than cost savings. I miss the buttons. I think if they had just popped the new screen in here and maintained the old climate controls and favorite buttons, people would overall enjoy ID8. Even though it appears in photos to just be tacked on the dash, it actually is pretty nice to look at in person when you're driving the car, it doesn't feel like an afterthought. The OS itself overall seems like an improvement.
I'm not crazy about the new shifter but it's not a big deal and you can retrofit the old one if you are so inclined. Funny enough, the BEV i4 M50 which also has ID8 maintained the joystick shifter. Makes no sense.
The ambient lightning is less prevalent in this car than the 3/4 series but it's close. I primarily drive during the day so I don't notice it much, but ambient lighting isn't a big deal to me either way.

Fun: The car isn’t significantly lighter than the M340i (around 100~ lbs) but it feels lighter. Most of that probably has to do with the fact it’s just a smaller car. Funny thing about that, the E90 335i that I previously owned was one of my favorite cars and was a perfect size to me, and the M240i is basically the same size. It just goes to show you what you already know, these cars keep getting bigger. Because of the size difference, it feels a lot more playful.
Most people know that BMW’s xDrive is rear biased, but in this car I’ve noticed I can break the rear end loose a lot easier than the M340i even when I keep traction control on. Not in a dangerous fashion like it's unexpected, but when I try to do it it happens with ease.
Back to the sizing, I still love the size of the M340i for a practical sedan that can comfortably fit 4 or 5 people on long trips. It's perfect for a sedan where you need to travel with a full car of people comfortably, something my E90 couldn’t do, but I almost never have more than 2 people in my car anyway. The M240i is the perfect size for a fun coupe. I park next to a new Mustang GT at work and my car looks so small in comparison, it's kind of hilarious (until you compare the weight).
I've read some folks on here found the M340i to be a bit numb, boring, or stale. I don't really agree with that, but I will say that the way it effortlessly put the power down was almost clinical and lacked drama. You couple that with how insulated the cabin is and then the exhaust getting nerfed in 2021+ models, that can take away from the experience depending on what car you're coming from and what your expectations are. In my short stint with the M240i, I find myself smiling a lot more when I'm trying to hoon it around like an idiot. Even though the cars are very similar, the smaller size of the coupe makes a huge difference in the fun factor.

Overall / TLDR

I think the M240i is a great car that checks all the boxes for a fun daily that can be driven in most conditions and climates. The options my particular car has have improved the few things that I didn’t love about my M340i (namely seats and suspension) while retaining all of its good qualities and even improving upon them. This is the perfect size for a fun modern coupe that still remains very practical. If you are in the market for a BMW coupe, or even a 3 series sedan but don’t really need the backseats, I highly suggest checking this car out.

2024.05.01 21:51 Affectionate_Arm9753 Sexe après 50 ans

Hello!
Merci!

2024.05.01 04:01 Dangerous-Muffin3663 50 lbs down in 9 months (5'5", 37F)

I posted a few months ago when I hit 199, and this week I got down to 185, which is officially 50 lbs down!
Here's my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/loseit/s/W631DVrH52
I'm mostly still doing the same things - eating around 1400-1600 calories, focusing on protein. Some days I eat a bit more carbs because I am running a lot now! I can now run for over a half hour without walking breaks. I also still do intervals on most runs.
In January I joined a gym, and have been doing strength training 3x a week as well.
I emptied out my closet and got rid of over half my clothes. I've had to buy new running / gym clothes, and a pair of jeans and a few nice shirts. My husband is constantly telling me how great I look, and is always supportive and encouraging when I want to go to the gym or go run. The other day I had a really bad run and just felt super slow and tired, and he still congratulated me for going anyway.
I can keep up with my kids a lot better, and even outrun them.
The rate of weight loss has slowed just a bit, but I'm happy because I know I can stick with my ~1500 calories diet and I should continue to lose over time, especially as I build up muscle.

2024.04.27 04:25 Mentals__ Messenger laptop EDC bag that can handle weekend trips

Hey all, I'm looking for a bag to hold some essential EDC gear that can also double as a bag for weekend trips. Here is a list of my carry items. I would want these for both EDC and weekend trips. I don't want to break the bank with this purchase. I'd like to not go above $150 if possible. Must be messenger style, no backpacks please.
Always Carry items -14" MacBook Pro -Steam Deck in a Tomtoc slim case -Kindle Paperwhite -Anker 747 and Anker Maggo 3 in 1 foldable -Battery Pack -Airpod Pros -Keys -Packable Patagonia Jacket
Weekend Carry Items (on top of previous list) -Enough clothes for the weekend (not a ton) -Small toiletries kit
Nice to Haves -External pocket for quick access to phone, passport, airpods, etc. for personal items bag -Not too huge or bulky. Just enough room for the above mentioned items -External water pouch for a 20oz Wide Mouth Hydro flask (if no pouch, a clip to hang it from) -Decent looking for semi professional environments
I have looked at some like the Tomtoc Explorer H52 and Timbuk2 Commute Messenger 2.0, but figured I'd ask the pros.
