2024.06.09 11:29 Impossible_Tip_2011 Not sure what I want to get out of this, guess maybe just a vent? And also find out how to find sober friends?

TL;DR: ive had a sudden realisation that me and my friends have a binge drinking problem and I want to find new friends
Hi people, while I’m not completely sober right now (as in I still have an occasional glass of wine) I think it’s definitely in my trajectory and something I want for myself. Here’s my longwinded vent but ultimately I have discovered that my closest girlfriends and I definitely have a binge drinking/bendering habit and I don’t want that for myself anymore.
I’m 29F. Over the last few months I’ve been drinking less and less. I was not an everyday drinker but whenever my friends (3-4 of them) and I would get together, we/ I would binge drink and do coke. This would happen about once a month. I now havent done it since April when one of my friends had a 30th birthday. That day/night was so full on that it sent me into the worst hangover of my entire life that lasted almost 2 weeks. I believe that is what traumatised me and gave me this realisation that I do not want that for myself anymore.
Anyway, last weekend one of our friends had a birthday party at a restaurant fairly far away. I opted to not drink so I drove these friends of mine down to the location for the afternoon. They drank all afternoon, champagne and cocktails and even in my car on the way there. I realised they left empty cans in my car too later in the week.
Fast forward to Friday that’s just been and my best friend invited me to an afternoon lunch for today with one of our other close friends. She said “the weather will be good so keen to have a few drinks in the sun”. I said no, because I wanted to spend time with family. I was just texted a photo of them together and they are out at another bar and they’ve been going for about 7 hours now. I’ve also noticed instead of going out and hard once a month it’s become an almost every weekend thing for them.
I’m not sure what I’m trying to get out of this but I guess I feel disappointed that these are my best friends and I’ve realised that all we do is drink together. No one ever has the idea to do something sober and wholesome. I also have a child, so the only time we’re really sober is if I offer for them to come over and see my kid and have dinner and watch movies.
On my path to sobriety I guess I need to find some new friends but I’m not sure how except through work. I’m a serious introvert… any tips and tricks welcome.

2024.06.09 10:00 Baguette1126 Is here any situation where I can use coins and lucky egg vouchers simultaneously?

Naguguluhan pa din ako sa pagavail ng mga discounts sa lazada eh. Alam ko pag sa coins, sa coins section ako nagbbrowse for maximum coin discount. Kasi kapag same item nintry kong icheck out through search, hindi same yung discount niya for some reason? As in ganong kalaki lang discount niya pag from coins section ko siya chineckout. Same sa luckyegg, pag don sa section na yon ko chineck out, magagamit ko yung voucher, pero pag sa coins or search ko siya chineck out hindi na pwede. Bakit ganon?
Also please enlighten me with tipid tips and tricks sa lazada? May naririnig ako payday sales? Every end of the month ba yun? May nababasa din akong may sales daw tuwing weekend? Pero hindi ko naman siya nakikita in-app😅 Also sa monthly sales like 1.1, 2.2, parang wala naman din ako nakikitang ganong karaming sales. What am I doing wrong?

Banned From TTS - Proof of address not sufficient
Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a bind and could use some advice. My TikTok Shop account got banned recently, and it’s been a nightmare trying to get it reinstated.
So, here’s the deal: I got an email from TikTok saying my account was suspended
They refused to tell me the specific reason at first. I had to go back and forth with them, arguing, just to find out it was the proof of address issue. They asked for a utility bill, bank statement, or any official document that shows my address. I sent them the same document I used to sign up for the account initially showing my name and residential address (Transferwise document of a transaction), but apparently, that wasn’t good enough.
They told me to appeal the decision, but here’s the kicker – they said if I lose my appeal a second time, I’ll lose my account for good.
Has anyone else been through this? What kind of documents did you send that worked? Also, how long did it take for them to respond and lift the ban?
I haven’t even listed a product yet, so I’m not losing sales, but I’m eager to get my shop up and running. Any tips or tricks to speed up the process or get their attention would be awesome.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

2024.06.09 09:39 MamboFloof Can I sue JLR San Diego for a negligent car repair that was 100x more expensive than necessary?

I'm sorry in advance for the length, but this is a multifaceted problem a year in the making.
A year ago I had a problem that pretty much could be solved by changing the Cam Position Sensor. I specifically asked JLR San Diego "Hey, I'm only misfiring when I'm coasting with a slight decel at highway speed. It goes away on restart. Is this possibly an issue with the VVT system, or a bad signal being sent to the ECM"?
No, of course it can't be. No, the entire engine is apparently unrepairable and must be replaced.
Quoted $50k. I was able to find a reman unit for 13k and they agreed to install it for $5k (half labor rate, which clearly created issues I'll get to later).
So I replaced it with a reman unit (the supplier took it, remanufactured it, and sold it within a week, so clearly that was some bs, but what ever). After 4 months of waiting (all parts were delivered long ago), I finally get on their case. Magically after raising some hell with JLR and the Franchiser the new engine gets put in within a week (Which makes me highly doubt the Engine was unfixable but what ever). Ok cool. Immediatly get lights, take it back and they forgot to secure the intake. What ever no biggie... nope, misfire on the same cylinders under the same conditions. Sparkplugs, ingnition coils, fuel pumps, all changed. Nothing. Little ideas that keep adding up out of pocket.
"Ok, it must be the timing being completely off after 200 miles, lets take it appart and see... for $10 grand. Also I think your oil pressure is about 5psi, I used a home made tool to check it" What? This new engine you put in is somehow out of time? The car that just made a 70 mile trip is somehow at 5 psi? I call bs, it wouldnt have made it here. Ok so I take it to a different mechanic after telling them to pound rocks. We do maybe $2k in parts canoning before changing the o2 sensors. That temporarily makes the problem go away. Of course I can only tell them information that JLR told me, so we arent checking the cams, timing, or VVT system outside of a normal diagnisis that reads "OK".
Fast forward a few months, I'm getting misfires again, same cylinders as before, and now finally a Cam Position Sensor code. And what happens when I pull the sensor? Problem is fixed. Um... wait a minute? That is quite literally what I asked them about. A sensor that is sending bad cam position information, related to the VVT system, thats causing incorrect fuel timing? Yeah, while not word for word, if they took my question seriously they would have noticed this issue.
$300 part. $30,000 in "unecessary repairs".
Yes I should have bailed long ago, but got in way too deep and fell victim to the sunken cost falacy (it started with "the value loss of just selling is about the same as putting in the reman", then spiraled out of control from there. Thats on me. I learned a lesson and will never make that mistake again.
Whats my legal recourse here? Am I able to do anything when I specifically asked them about this, and they just about laughed me out the door, talking about how "that cant be it, that never happens, and our best guy doesnt make mistakes"? Is there any reasonable expectation that a mechanic shouldn't be 10,000% wrong just to push proffits? (I'll add a note about why I strongly believe this is the case).
Why I believe they did this to push proffits:
1: During this process, there were a few OEM parts on long backorders. I ordered aftermarket parts to be delivered to JLR San Diego. One of these parts magically got checked into inventory, and they tried to resell it to me. I had to fight them about that, because why would a dealership that notoriously does not want you using aftermaket parts, happen to magically stock exactly one of the aftermarket part I bought? (Heck, this came in pairs. Why would they only have half of the pair, while my car has the other half?).
2: They actievely fought me and refused to test drive it until I replaced my wheel bearings that magically went bad while the car was there. They had absolutly no issue when I had the car inspected there before a month prior to the engine problem. Now if they want to make the case that they died while it was left baking in the sun for 4 months while they refused to work on it, thats one thing. But refusing to see if the engine would stop misfiring until I bought new wheel bearings? Yeah that sounds like a forced sale to me. I refused unless they would pay for it, and magically the issue was dropped when I started getting mad at JLR Corporate.
3: Their solutions to a new engine having the old engine's issues made no sense. Home made tools with obviously bad readouts justifying a $10k repair that "likley wouldnt fix the problem but might"? How can the oil pressure be at a fraction of normal spec and not be throwing a dozen codes? How did I drive 70 miles to the shop? Theres also no indication the engine is out of time so why would you be suggesting that for a random misfire, that can be duplicated using the same conditions, that goes away until put in the same conditions. There should be some expectation that when they put the new engine in they ensure its timing (and yeah, its not out of time). So that reasoning was stupid enough, they couldnt even explain their reasoning in a convincing way.
And yes, I acknowledge that if my head was blown I needed to atleast get the headgasket replaced, however they did their best to ensure this was described as not an option. That that engine would never be repairable and was destined for the trash bin. If I could have gotten my 2 cylinders of conern remanufactured (4 and 6), and a new headgasket, then replaced this sensor for even just 1/6-1/3 of the cost, how thats still $20-25k in wasted repairs.
This has been a very irritating and expensive lesson in when to just call it quits and not fall victim to the sunken cost fallacy, and have a bit of humility (though admitedly when I was right it makes it a bit harder). I recognize my mistakes and will own them, so if there is infact no oportunity to sue, is there any type of report I can file against them so they cant pull this with anybody else?

2024.06.09 08:42 spbbburns Problems with a stealership

So we're in California. My wife really wanted a Mazda, so we traded in our Hyundai Palisade for Mazda CX-9. When I got there they had almost 5k in dealer installed upgrades, including an alarm. I told them I'm not buying any of that and they could uninstall the alarm, which they begrudgingly did. I did test drive the vehicle and everything was great. The car was almost new. So on my way home, a light was flashing. I noticed it after I got on the freeway, so I didn't think anything of it because I had never seen that light before, and it wasn't the check light, so I though no big deal.
Got home and researched it and it's a pretensioner light, meaning the airbag might not go off. So, I figure it's a coincidental malfunction. I bought a bumper to bumper warranty for peace of mind, so I made an appointment with my local Mazda. It's important to note that the dealership I bought from is 100 miles away and 2 hours driving time. They said the diagnosis is $220 if the issue wasn't covered by warranty, like rodents chewing wires or something. The issue ended up being a nicked wire from an after market alarm. Big surprise.
So I call the dealership I bought it from and they want me to drive it all the way out there so they can fix it. Then they changed their story and said they talked to the sales manager and he said it didn't even look like their alarm. There's only one alarm in the vehicle and no one installs those alarms anymore. I'm not sure if I should just do the repairs and take them to small claims. I think it's incredibly unreasonable for them to expect I drive 4 hours and 200 miles round trip with a safety issue. The right thing, I believe, is for them to pay for the repairs, and be done with it. The cost is $660. Our car is stuck in the shop until Monday, since service is closed. Thanks for reading!

2024.06.09 08:40 Hdang28 Sold a car last week. Now buyer wants 200$ refund.

I sold a 2013 Honda civic last week with 92k miles and I disclosed on a Facebook post that I’m selling the car because there’s an issue with the airbag. Knowing this, I’m selling the car for way below its market value. He comes to check the car out and I disclose all the problems of the car. Not sure what was wrong with the airbag light, because I bought it from someone before and it already had the airbag light and I didn’t bother to get it fixed. He says he’s seen this problem before in another car he’s bought and he can fix it for 700$. He also has a mechanic come to take a look and take a look at it as well and he says it’s fine. We agree on a price and I made him sign an “as is” contract, which stated “no warranties, no refunds, and the seller assumes no liability that happens after the sale”. A week later, he calls me and says the mechanic quotes him 2500$ to repair the airbag and he calls me a liar. He wants 200$ and he he’ll be happy. I said we signed a contract, so I will not. Does he have any legal ground? I’m based in AZ.

2024.06.09 08:38 TrueSpins Buying a car for £25k cash - am I missing anything?

I've been driving around in my really old car for well over a decade and have finally decided to buy something new (well, used but much newer).
I know what car I'll be buying and will likely be starting the process on Monday. The car will be about £25k and I'll be paying in full (dealership so no great concern about scams).
However, am I missing out on any tricks here? If I can easily afford the payment, is there any benefit in looking at credit? Doesn't seem so, but thought I'd just check.
Equally, are there any bank cash back offers or similar I could take advantage of? Again, I suspect not as a) I'm assuming I'll have to do a bank transfer and b) cash back offers are normally capped - but thought I'd check.
Update: Think I'll probably take a loan of about 8k from my LTD company at zero interest. Will be below the thresholds for interest and will pay back within 9 months to avoid S455 tax implications. Remaining 17k will just be my own cash.

2024.06.09 08:31 Alililyann Mazda 3 GT sport edition 105,800 km $8500 CAD- should I buy?

Im in Canada, and fresh in the disappointment bubble after losing out on a Honda civic 2016 125,000 for $8800 in an estate sale. This Mazda was just posted and I’m wondering if I should test drive. This will be a second vehicle for our family to drive to work (other is a 2020 Subaru Outback). I have a 2 year old and another baby on the way.
This is a 2014 Mazda 3 GT Sport Edition sedan 105,800 km for $8500 CAD. Comes with leather seats, sunroof, backup camera and GPS. Apparently the owner has it inspected, and it comes with a certification slip. Is this a worthwhile purchase? I tend to hold onto cars for a long time, but reselling is always a potential down the road depending on circumstance. I am in a location where cars rust very easily (east coast Canada) and I’ve heard old models do tend to rust. One other consideration is that I need a new vehicle within the week (unforeseen work changes) so I don’t have a lot of time to shop around. Safety is a big issue too with two little ones in the back seat. Thoughts?
Also, should I trust this owner’s own certification report? Will be going to see car tomorrow (Sunday).

Picked this up for 3$ at a yard sale, guy said he used it for retro gaming, had my doubts but for 3$ why not. Unfortunately on the way home it fell over in the car and this was what I was greeted to upon testing. Am I just out 3$ or is it repairable (not by me I’ve seen the horror stories)

Hedge Funds Shorting Meme Stocks
The 3 Meme stocks are all heavily shorted and appear to be manipulated. The companies are very different but with the resurgence of Keith Gil aka Roaring Kitty there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the 3 meme stocks GameStop, Amc & The US electric car company FFIE.
There was the first big squeeze in 2021 when hedge funds shorting GameStop had to pay out big when buying shares to cover their losses. Amc shares were also heavily shorted at the time and followed GameStop’s upward trajectory.
Fast forward to today and now there is a third Stonk (meme stock) added to the list FFIE.
Also interesting are these articles I found linking shorting as a major contributor to the U.S. 1929,1987 & 2008 market crashes.

2024.06.09 07:16 pellontyres Car Battery Check

Make sure that your family are safe with a Car Battery Check

So, on a recent visit to France, we unfortunately broke down. Due to an electrical fault on our Peugeot van. Just by coincidence, another English vehicle was in a few parking spaces near to us. It was also broken down; this vehicle was a Citroen C4 Picasso people carrier and was occupied by a family of six , four children and their parents.
I went over to the guy, who was looking under the bonnet (hood) of his car. Tentatively, asking him what had gone wrong. He told that the orange alternator light had come on. Sadly, he carried on. Not suspecting that the light would cause a problem. He went on to tell me!

He suspected that the car may have had a dodgy battery for a few weeks

. But he just kept on charging it up. Because he did not use the people carrier very often. In fact, he only used the car for family outings and visits to the sea side.
I told him that I was in the Car battery business. So, I suspected that a Battery Check would do the trick. I am amazed at the number of drivers that I come across. Consequently, who are hell bent on trying to keep a dead battery alive. Of course, by constantly trying to charge up their old, and probably dead, batteries. So, we are trying to keep the thing alive. Most drivers fail and eventually give up their dead battery. Of course, and go out to have a professional Battery Check. Before buying buy a new one.

Car Battery Check,

2024.06.09 06:53 betterflygarden First time SUV buyer

Confused which SUV to buy. My budget is 200K and need a family SUV that I will drive alone 90% of time around.
My daily avg drive is approx 100km within the city (for Sales meetings) and once a week trip to Abu Dhabi/RAK.
Safety and tech features are important to me since I attend lot of customer calls while driving.
The fuel goes from my pocket so efficiency is important.
Weekends, I take my family out and would need something that would be ideal for a family of 4 with 2 toddlers.
Some thoughts in my mind?
Do I need a big Family SUV if I'm driving alone 90% of time at the same time don't want to regret buying smaller one few years later ?
Will keep the car for 10+ years.
Below are my considerations:
Kia Telluride or Kia Sorento (full options) Not sure what extra does telluride provide.
Ford Everest
Madza CX-90
Or if were to go for smaller SUV what would you recommend ?

2024.06.09 06:42 Sea_Landscape_1400 Large box store employee assaulted me and planted evidence on me to try and justify why

Employee assaulted me and planted evidence on me to try and justify why
Today at about 10 am me and my step-dad went to grab some sockets they had on sale. We both browsed separately and my dad shot me a text telling me he went to the car and to meet him out there. I decided to take the short way out (by the buzzer exit, you need to be buzzed through to exit) but I decided I would just squeeze through the gate because I didn't buy anything, have anything on me and I was parked just outside the doors.
Just as I was squeezing through, some guy grabbed me and just threw me over the buzzer door, kicked me on the ground and I was knocked unconscious. I woke up less than a minute later I think and I was being helped up by the same guy and a couple of bystanders who just happened to be there I guess. They sat me down in the waiting area to have your car serviced and at first I thought it was just a random assault, because they called the police and so I stayed there by my own volition.
5 minutes and police showed up, and to my surprise they told me to get up and go into the private room they had. My step dad was coming in at the time and was just as confused as I was.
When I was sat in the private room, the guy who apparently assaulted me and the manager of the store with the two cops were there and he pulled out a pack of two tail light bulbs for a car, and said I was trying to steal them and he caught me. He said he watched me put them in my hoodie pocket and try to walk out and was ignoring him when he asked me to stop. He said he man handled me to try and get them back and I slipped and fell. Cops asked for video footage, he looked kind of nervous, left for about 10 minutes, came back and said the cameras were not recording at the time.
To also preface things, I'm clean cut, 19, no record, never stole a thing in my life, no speeding tickets and I do not look like the type to steal.
The police took their report, one of the cops examined my head, and said it would be good to have it checked out. We called the paramedics but they had no estimated time of arrival, and so one of the officers offered to take me there and which I said no I would rather have my dad drive me. They both stayed at the Canadian tire and one went back of the counter to what I assume to check the video footage to see what was happening.
I got to the hospital, and the injuries I've sustained were:
Concusion Open wound head injury Bruised side rib Scrapes and bruises on my arm Sore back Bruised tailbone Hernia
As a result, I'm unable to attend what would be my first day of work tomorrow as a powerline technician, this is until I have surgery for my hernia as I use my core for climbing.
I am in pretty bad shape, I do feel like my head is fuzzy and I'm in pretty bad pain near my groin area where the hernia occurred. My eyes are not seeing right and I have a bad riding in both ears, but the doctors said it most likely will not be permanent and to get things checked out in a week. I am being held in the hospital until tomorrow where they want to monitor me. I have a terrible headache too.
Basically, how do I prove I wasn't stealing and I didn't "slip and fall" and get all these injuries? It doesn't even look like I tripped, you can see an obvious bruise on the right side of me, one just under my tailbone and my head has an Injury to it as well as my arm being scraped up.
What would I be entitled to as a ballpark estimate? I want to make sure my potential employment is covered, my wages and future wages to be covered. I'm only 19 and this has really messed things up for me.

2024.06.09 06:22 Serious-Situation260 What is the best legal strategy for getting my niece out of my sister's care? Father is deceased. [New York]

I recently spent 2 weeks with my sister and niece in their home. It was great to be able to spend time with my niece because i hadn't seen her in a year and because she hardly gets any social interaction. The experience broke my heart at many points as the reality of my sister's strange lifestyle came into focus with each passing day. I spent a lot of time making lists and ordering household items & groceries via Walmart delivery. I didn't have a car while I was there but i was determined to stock the apartment with items that are normally found in a home and things that would make their life easier. I taught my niece how to cook a few things in the microwave, how to open doors with keys, I taught her the different coins (penny, nickle, dime, quarter), I got her taking showers instead of baths, brushing her teeth (she didnt know how to do it properly at all), bought her some clothes, hydrating and spending time outside each day. We played Truth or Dare, we prayed, we beat-boxed, we watched SpongeBob, we went to Lion Country Safari and we practiced swimming in the pool. At the end of the two weeks, when it was time for me to leave, it was painful for us both. We both knew that after I left, their life would revert to what is normal for them: Mom in bed all day on her phone and my niece ignored in the adjacent room, glued to her ipad.
My sister is mentally ill, but I am furious with her for disrespecting herself, her child and our family like this. There are multiple other family members who can and will help in taking care of my niece properly, but my sister refuses to let anyone help. On top of that, my sister is extremely rude, manipulative and psychotic. Shes been this way her whole life and she refuses to get treatment. Typical narcissist! My whole family has been forced to endure the abuse of my sister for about 25 years, sonwe are kind of desensitized to it generally, but lately it is apparent that her behavior has gotten even worse, and only now, after my 2 week visit, are the rest of the family members realizing exactly how depraved she has been acting as a parent, and we are all extremely concerned.
I don't care how hard it's going to be or what it's going to take but I'm going to fix this problem, and I'm committed to fixing this problem ASAP.
Please review this timeline of relevant events in order to come up with strategies for getting my niece into a healthy living situation:
Father of the child got a restraining order on my sister in 2016ish, while my sister was pregnant.
There were violent interactions between the mother and father. I'm not sure if any are documented in terms of police records.
1st CPS case [Oregon]: My sister had custody temporarily taken away directly after she gave birth. Why? Positive hospital drug test while pregnant, domestic violence incident while pregnant, the restraining order id imagine and ber behavior at the hospital when giving birth. I flew to the state they were in (Oregon) and served as a family supervisor for about 4 weeks, told CPS that my sister was a fit parent, and my sister got custody back.
2nd CPS Case [California]: My sister was supposed to return home to her daughter and the babysitter after a night out when the child was 1 year old or less. This resulted in a CPS investigation. My sister moved out of state before the investigation could be completed. Apparently this resulted in a warrant for her arrest in CA and maybe a few surrounding states. California CPS has tried to reach out to her and my family members many times over the years in an attempt to identify her location.
3rd & 4th CPS Cases [Florida]: About a month ago, 2 CPS reports were created for neglect, injury of the child and my sisters mental illness. My sister did not answer the door and pretended not to be home when DCF went there with the police. She then moved out of her apartment ASAP and out of the jurisdiction.
Other info:
My sister is now in New York where my father is an attorney. He has always enabled my sister's irresponsible behavior and also he is the one instructing her how to handle each CPS interaction. His awful advice has led to my sister and niece having to move around a lot because my sister and dad are very paranoid about people figuring out her location. My sister avoids doing things like taking my niece to the doctor or enrolling her in regular school for this reason. She also avoids therapy and mental evaluations for herself personally for this reason.
Both my sister and my niece (who is now 7) urgently need mental health evaluations. I took care of my niece for 2 weeks last month (before they went on the run) and my niece seemed to be experiencing visual hallucinations, "voices in her head telling her to do violence", & violent intrusive thoughts. She expressed the voices in her head comment verbatim to one of her teachers at the end of a Zoom meeting to assess her progress in school. She also expressed ideas of self harm frequently, as does my sister. My sister has seld diagnosed herself recently with borderline personality disorder and has decided to make it part of her "brand" as an aspiring TikToker. She is proud of it and openly refuses to get therapy or medication. She's also posted a threatening video recently on TikTok, telling someone that they need to "get their mom's gun because they are going to need it this week" when she comes to their town.
The guy my sister was dating recently petitioned for a TRO against my siater very recently as did his housemate.
When the first TRO was granted, the FBI called the Petitioner and asked if they could meet to discuss a matter involving my sister (apparently not CPS related but a separate criminal matter). The Petitioner was informed that there are BOLO (be on the lookout) alerts, whatever that means, for my sister in 3 US states, and that the TRO petition triggered something with NCIC which led to the fbi agent reaching out.
There's SO much more to this story but I'm trying to keep it as short as I can.
I'd say the other most relevant pieces of information are:
My mom and I are hell bent on getting my niece into a stable, safe situation, ideally under custody of my mom. My sister can get custody back if/when she meets the demands of a judge demonstrating that she is fit and able.
My dad has dug his heels in even deeper in his morally bankrupt plan to have my sister evade CPS forever. He has a lot of experience with family court matters as an attorney so I guess he thought in the beginning that my sister could utilize the tricks he knows about the system to circumvent it entirely. He didn't plan on me "turning against" my sister I suppose. So now it's like a family battle of my mom and I vs my siste and dad. (My parents are divorced)
Two days ago I found out that I have an eviction on my record and $6k+ in debt from a 2017 eviction in LA County under my name. I've never lived in LA or even California, but my sister has! I wrote to my dad saying basically, "this is obviously name-related. Do you happen to know anything about this?". His response was, 'sorry, that's just old landlord stuff from when niece's name was a little baby." His next message dorectly after this was "how are you?" my dad pretty much admitted right then and there that my sister used my identity to rent an apartment in order to move out of the jurisdiction of either her 1st or 2nd cps case. My dad's response also shows that he knew about this. From the "sorry" part, I confirmed my suspicion that this was all his idea.
I sent my sister and dad an email yesterday with a blank temporary custody agreement telling them that it would be a really great opportunity for my sister to sign over temp custody to my mom for the summer at least. I said that my other sibling would also be an acceptable candidate for custody, if they should so choose.
I also included the case information for the LA eviction & debt owed, careful to state that I was bringing this case to their attention as a totally separate matter.
I ended it with "I hope we can figure out this temporary custody issue voluntarily without court intervention"
My sister is not going to sign it but i figured I might as well throw it out there.
My sister has been living in FL for over a year and my niece participated in online school this past year thru florida but my sister gets her mail in NY (at my dad's place) and her health insurance for her and her kid are thru NY state. I bet my dad set things up this way so he could always say my sister is a NY state resident so that he can represent her in any legal proceedings.
I have researched florida options regarding conservatorship/guardianship/Custody. Going through florida would be the correct way to go but my dad is going to say she's a resident of NY, so it really depends on where the court proceedings start as far as I can tell, regarding what jurisdictioncis correct.
I'd like to wrap my head around the legal proceedings in NY that I, or my mom, or our other sibling, or a lawyer can initiate in order to achieve the goal, which is simply for my niece to be healthy and to thrive and to be safe.

MEN OF MANCHESTER. You are not alone!!
Just wanted to give a shout out to those guys suffering. Long story short I was in a 10 year relationship worked everyday, provided a lot of money to the family had expensive holidays, lavish houses and a cars. Yet while in a relationship to someone who didn't work the finger was always at me despite her unfaithfulness. I didn't spend enough time with kids despite working 8-8, I didn't clean up enough I didn't, I drank too much to deal with stress of a sales job I fucking hated, sure I could have been better but I did ALOT I can only now confidently say.
Then we split up 4 years went by I re built my life I left the horrible job, despite her and her family saying I couldn't I spent way more time with my kids, I had to FIGHT in mediation to get more than one day a fortnight with my them because they said their more used to being with their mum because I wasn't their as much despite fitting the profile of a man. I ended up with every other weekend and a day in the week. I cherish them times. Yet now it's I don't earn enough I don't have another partner I don't have the nice house, literally from the same people and also other men who have been just conditioned to this. Nothing about oh your a better dad your spending way more time with the kids etc etc.
Not all men are fucking wasted idiots who don't give a shit so for those who have had any experience that can relate or female, or human but in this case I see the many of my male friends suffering mentally. Nearly killing themselves, some have unfortunately FOR FUCK SAKE.
YOURE NOT ALONE YOU KNOW, YOUR NOT ALONE YOU KNOW. YOUR NOT ALONE AT ALL!!!
For me the enemy, your not alone helped, lyrics are good. Also my 3 best mates who have also all individually suffered and for the other who didn't make it ❤️
https://youtu.be/nTSVhCzL17k?si=Pi4dBV9-zzNuSRtj
(Unfortunately I have to put this because if I didn't it could be hit with well women suffer, I know they do, I know many humans suffer this is not aimed at anything to do with anyone else not having difficulties but I'm damn well aloud to say this is for my fellow men)

2024.06.09 05:50 Fantastic_Minute_576 Just bought these.

Just bought these.
$850 for all 3. My wife is out of state, and there was an estate sale near her. She went and purchased all three for me. She said they all have engines, interior, and most of the trim, either on the cars or in the cabs.

2024.06.09 05:18 cykod New MA ID.4 Purchase - talk me out of this conspiracy theory

New MA ID.4 Purchase - talk me out of this conspiracy theory
tl;dr - I think someone at the dealership may have spiked my new car’s tires.
So I need Reddit's help either validating or talking me out of this conspiracy theory on a tire issue with my new ID.4 Pro purchase we made this past week. Sorry, this is a bit long.
We purchased the car on Friday, but it wasn't ready to pick up until Monday. We drove it home Monday afternoon, and Wednesday afternoon the passenger-side rear tire pops up on the dash as having low pressure. I check it the later that evening and it's actually perfectly at pressure - 44 psi - along with the two front tires (also both 44psi). The other rear tire is 5 psi high, at 49 psi. I take it down to match the other 3 and figure it's some glitch in the system.
Friday afternoon/evening it goes off again, it's at 41 psi and the next morning it's at 35 psi. I make an appointment and take it into the dealership. They find a puncture. They call it a "staple," and tell me I need a brand new tire ($450) as it's too close to the sidewall. We driven the car maybe 80 miles and already we're going to be close to another half a grand into it.
They need to special order the tire anyway, so I drive home and decide to get a second opinion from a tire shop, and see if maybe they have the tire for cheaper. As I'm waiting I mention that we've had it less than a week and the conspiracy theorist in me feels like someone spiked it.
The tech calls me out to look at the damage once they find it - confirms it's too close to the sidewall to patch, and says it doesn't look like a staple, but looks like two roofing nails next to each other. Tech says "yeah, that's _super_ sketchy." and explains how _perfect_ the punctures are:
  1. They are too close to the sidewall to patch
  2. ...but far enough away from the sidewall that they aren't a danger of blowing out and causing harm
  3. ...and even if you found someone willing to patch you couldn't do it because there are two nails
and the chance of all that happening within the first 100 miles driving is really, really low. The tire is unfortunately only available from the dealership.
Now here's the conspiracy theory part: I happened to turn down both the extended warranty and road hazard warranty, which would have covered this, and when I did that the financial guy seemed to get kinda put off. I also was the asshole customer that calls up on the last day of the sales month, waits until they finally give me an actual price over the phone (have to ask 5 times b/c they only want to talk payments,) and then push back on the price and mention that another dealership was willing to come down on the posted price by a few grand and get a extra couple grand off the posted purchase price.
They couldn't get me the car registered Friday afternoon, so I couldn't pick it up until Monday, so it sat around all weekend at the dealership.
What are the chances that someone at the dealership was pissed about how little they're making on the the car and decided to:
  1. Inflate both back rear tires high (49psi)
  2. Put that "perfect" puncture in my back right tire, knowing it would take a couple days for the pressure to come down and trigger the sensor warning.
  3. Wait until I come running back to the dealership as my only option to replace it.
Am I crazy? I'm in Massachusetts and if anything like this happened to you too, please reach out. I'm guessing if I'm not crazy I'm not the only person they've done this to.

2024.06.09 04:45 Gabriella9090 How to protect assets when one spouse needs long term care? (77M, 57F)

MA/NH area: Husband is 77, I am 57, married 33 years. He is retired, I was and am the homemaker. He is on Medicare and we pay about $1500/month for private health insurance for me only until I’ll be eligible for Medicare in a few years. Neither of us has any long-term healthcare insurance. Our fixed income is his pension and his SSI, together about $6500/month after taxes but before the 1.5k for my health insurance, so about 5k for all bills/food and a mortgage we just got rid of. The pension is guaranteed for my lifetime and is adjusted annually for cost of living. No debt. One car and one RV between us (paid off, worth $80k combined).
We don’t go out to eat at restaurants, don’t spend a lot on entertainment but we like to travel with our RV. Our life is frugal and comfortable and we don’t complain.
In the bank is about 400k liquid cash right now (combination of our recent home sale and savings).
We just sold a home, got rid of the mortgage and now we want to buy another home closer to our daughters for about 350k max (in a VHCOL) which was the equity of the home we sold and is now sitting in our regular saving account (we don’t want any mortgage anymore). We have never invested, have no stock etc, all money is very straight forward. We aren’t interested in investing because it’s too complicated for us and want to keep our life including our finances very simple. In fact, we have only two bank accounts: a checking and a savings account, and one credit card I use for $20 purchases at Goodwill that I immediately pay off (my credit score is over 800).
Obviously I am 20 years younger. Our life is stable. When/if we buy a 350k home (small condo or house, we don’t know yet), we will be left with 50k in savings, $80k in cars and will most likely be able to save $1500/month (for not having a mortgage), some of which we would like to use for travel right now. In a few years, I’ll switch to Medicare and that 1.5K will be additional monthly savings, so about 3k month savings. I think I’ll also be later on eligible for SSI through my husband but not sure of the amount…. And that’s still awhile ahead.
Question: how do we protect our assets for the event that my husband would need to go to a long-term health facility if for some reason I cannot care for him? We heard a lot of vague info about trusts but we’ve always moved a lot and we don’t understand how this would limit our ability to access our own money to continue buying/selling our primary homes as we may choose to move yet again or to RV travel or take a cruise?
Basically if he dies with 90 and I am 70 then, I am afraid I will have to sell that home and become homeless or something and have to drive a beater car to pay back the Medicare reimbursement to the state if he stayed for a few years in a nursing home…
Our daughters are very busy with their own families and I would never expect or ask them to care for us or take me in, if I am in need of housing. They are also successful and don’t need or expect any inheritance from us, we just want to make sure our assets last through both of our lifetimes, even if one of us needs long term nursing care (but those assets don’t need to last beyond our lifetimes). Any ideas?

2024.06.09 04:43 FabulousPlayGaster ULPT Request: International who will never go back to the US. Should I max out my credit cards and never pay it?

Spent some time in the US. My credit score is prestine, it's amazingly good. I have lived an honest life so far, I did everything right. Recently I got fired, my work permit is gone and I will for certain default on my student loans. I left the US as I don't have a job anymore. I don't have a lot of savings. I'm a bit hurt and resentful tbh, the system fucks you if you play by the rules. I'll be in default anyway.
I have a sizable credit card limit. I probably can spend close to 100k in my credit cards. I can buy a very very good home with this money in my home country. I can use US credit cards to buy stuff here. I'll be in default anyway. How to get the best out of it?
I'll never go back to the US. I'll never live there anymore. I may go as a tourist, but I highly doubt unpaid credit card debt affects my ability to get a tourist visa.
What if I don't pay? I can buy a liquid asset - let's say a expensive car or jewelry. Then I sell it and get the money. And never pay it back. I'll probably have to figure out some kind of trick with local IRS, but that's not too hard. I can pay taxes over this money, I don't care.
And honestly, why stop here?.I probably can get some personal loans as I have a credit score and I still can show payment slips for a few months. I probably can get up to 200k doing this. That's life changing money.
What's the worst case scenario here?

2024.06.09 04:38 Dark-fry How do I ever justify getting another vehicle if the one I have runs?

Generally I'm good at finance and very frugal. But I'm not a car guy and can't fathom how it ever makes sense to buy another car.
I have a 2006 Dodge ram 2wd 5.7l quad cab with 250k miles on it. I purchased it in 2009 for 11k. My mantra was to drive it till the wheels fall off and then buy a new vehicle.
Fast forward almost 20 years and this thing is still running. As far as repairs I had the alternator replaced for 600$ 9 years ago, brand new wheels, breaks, spark plugs and misc fluid changes about 7 years ago for 2000$ (not counting oil changes at regular interval's), and this year I had the whole front end redone for 3000$. So over 10 years I've had about 5,600$ in repairs.
Now the kicker is my truck is only worth about 2-3k trade in and 4-5k private sale. So essentially I paid more in repairs than the truck is worth but it still came out less than financing a new or used truck.
Additionally, I work in the FD in Texas and everyone owns trucks. I've seen 2017 Chevy Silverados electronics and transmissions go out and the guys will just trade them back in or get rid of them.
So In my mind...even if I got a new or used vehicle, the cost of potential repairs PLUS monthly payment over time always makes it never worth it when compared to just fixing whatever breaks on my trucks?
In my situation I'm just not understanding...when exactly do the wheels fall off?

2024.06.09 04:36 Crafty-Bunch-2675 KDP's reviews restrictions almost seem designed to keep indie authors from getting reviews.

It's so restrictive ! Your family can't give you reviews. Neither can your friends, nor anybody on your contact list.
I've joined some author groups and then I went over the rules again...and it looks like you're not allowed to review other authors either, because it's "review swapping"
Basically it seems the rules are set up that only established famous authors can get reviews.
I mean come on. How else would you stumble upon a random indie author's book unless you came across it in some form of social media or direct contact with the indie author ?
There's more to book sales than the holy algorithm. There's word-of-mouth.
Think about it. All this "it messes up the algorithm" talk. What it really means is we don't want you marketing your own book
After all, most family and friends don't buy your book anyway. So if an author successfully markets their book through word of mouth and convinces someone to buy it...then congratulations, that's a customer. That customer should be allowed to write a review, regardless of what their relationship may be. All money is green after all.
An indie author shouldn't be punished for the grave sin of marketing his own book through personal encounters and salesmanship.
Can you imagine a car company telling it's salesmen that they aren't allowed to sell cars to anyone they know personally? That would be ludicrous.
The algorithm is just a bot. Everybody buy things out of their regular pattern occasionally. Sometimes I buy female-led thriller books as gift to my wife. It's not my genre. It's for my wife.

2024.06.09 04:23 nexflatline Dealership experience: Tesla vs other brands

I've been debating making this post because it doesn't seem to match most people's accounts of their Tesla purchasing experience. On the other hand, that made it even more disappointing.
In short: Tesla is just like the dreaded dealerships they proudly proclaim not to be.
Long story:
I am in Japan and I spent two years researching new cars. First, I looked into regular combustion engine cars and visited dealerships (Toyota, Subaru, Suzuki, Mazda...). The experience was very similar to what people say Tesla is like: I test drove the cars, dealers answered all my questions directly, there was almost no "sales talk", and zero pressure to buy. Of course, this was around a year ago when factories were still trying to catch up with demand.
Yet, despite no markups, I got frustrated with having to pay for "carpets" and other basic items. 8-16 month waitlists were also common for the cars I was interested in. Then I started looking at Tesla and realized it may be a great deal: fast delivery, very few extra fees, and electric (much cheaper than gas here in Japan).
The issues started on their website with something I had never heard of before: to book a test drive, you fill out a two-page form with your name and phone number and then book a time. I entered my name and phone number, but when choosing a time, I realized the available slots didn't suit me. I decided to book another day and closed the page. To my surprise, Tesla called me that same day! The page had sent my information even though I didn't book or consent to being contacted!
I told them I would book later. A week later, I booked a test drive. The salesperson was very kind, and there was no pressure. At that point, I was almost sold. But maybe by coincidence, other EVs started appearing in Japan (Hyundai and BYD), and I thought I should try those as well.
Meanwhile, I started getting calls from Tesla every two weeks, and I realized that some figures on "fuel savings", insurance price, and energy costs they had given me were very misleading. This coincided with me visiting a "regular dealership" to see another brand of EV. The salesperson was absolutely honest about their car's issues, energy and insurance costs, which was actually a great experience.
Yet, Tesla was the best deal for a simple reason: I didn't have a charger at home and there was a Supercharger only 200m from my apartment. So I went to Tesla one last time to see the specific model I was going to buy and which they confirmed the day before they had it there for viewing (surprise: they didn't), and told them for the third time I was buying the car because of that convenient Supercharger near my house. This time, the salesperson kept insisting on talking about a new Supercharger they opened in a nicer area. This was weird since it didn't matter to me; I already had one much closer. That left me with a bad feeling, and on the way back from Tesla, I checked the Supercharger near my home and realized it was gone! The salesperson hid this from me despite obviously knowing it was permanently closed.
I understand the dealerships in Japan are probably more reliable than abroad, but I wasn't expecting Tesla to act exactly like the old dealerships they declare not to be part of.
I went with another brand of EV and haven't been with the car long enough to have a committed opinion (zero complaints so far). But the dealership experience was certainly better. The dealership also did 100% of the subsidy documentation, saving me a lot of time and headaches.
