2024.06.09 17:27 Fco_Almonacid Glad to share my first mod!
I bought a messed up iPod and fully upgraded almost everything. Just kept the motherboard, midframe and the screen. The only downside is that I cant close the iPod just yet haha because the battery replacement it’s taking forever to arrive and the original battery is too thick for the slim backplate. But everything ended up flawlessly and it’s fully operational. I can’t be happier with my Rakdos themed iPod <3 submitted by Fco_Almonacid to ipod [link] [comments]
2024.06.09 16:48 the_ten_dollars Does anyone know how I can fix this?
I have an iPod Video (5th Gen) and I wanted to mod it with some Rockbox themes. I tried downloading themes such as "BONES" "IMMXX" and others, but when I did, they either didn't load or looked wrong. They looked like RockBox's default theme just with no icons and a very barebones interface. No matter what theme I install, none look as they're intended to. They all have the same black and white pixel-thin text and very barebones look. Is this a problem with Rockbox itself, or does my iPod just not want to be modded?
I tried downloading the themes manually by copying over the ".rockbox" folder into my iPod. Now, every time I try plugging in my iPod into my PC it shuts down immediately.
Any help?

FNAF 1 About:
Welcome to your new summer job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where kids and parents alike come for entertainment and food as far as the eye can see! The main attraction is Freddy Fazbear, of course; and his two friends. They are animatronic robots, programmed to please the crowds! The robots' behavior has become somewhat unpredictable at night however, and it was much cheaper to hire you as a security guard than to find a repairman.
From your small office you must watch the security cameras carefully. You have a very limited amount of electricity that you're allowed to use per night (corporate budget cuts, you know). That means when you run out of power for the night- no more security doors and no more lights! If something isn't right- namely if Freddybear or his friends aren't in their proper places, you must find them on the monitors and protect yourself if needed!
Can you survive five nights at Freddy's?
Five Nights at Freddy's on Steam (steampowered.com) FNAF 2 About:
Welcome back to the new and improved Freddy Fazbear's Pizza!
In Five Nights at Freddy's 2, the old and aging animatronics are joined by a new cast of characters. They are kid-friendly, updated with the latest in facial recognition technology, tied into local criminal databases, and promise to put on a safe and entertaining show for kids and grown-ups alike!
What could go wrong?
As the new security guard working nights, your job is to monitor cameras and make sure nothing goes wrong after-hours. The previous guard has complained about the characters trying to get into the office (he has since been moved to day-shift). So to make your job easier, you've been provided with your very own empty Freddy Fazbear head, which should fool the animatronic characters into leaving you alone if they should accidentally enter your office.
As always, Fazbear Entertainment is not responsible for death or dismemberment.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 on Steam (steampowered.com) FNAF 3 About:
Thirty years after Freddy Fazbear's Pizza closed it's doors, the events that took place there have become nothing more than a rumor and a childhood memory, but the owners of "Fazbear's Fright: The Horror Attraction" are determined to revive the legend and make the experience as authentic as possible for patrons, going to great lengths to find anything that might have survived decades of neglect and ruin.
At first there were only empty shells, a hand, a hook, an old paper-plate doll, but then a remarkable discovery was made...
The attraction now has one animatronic.
Five Nights at Freddy's 3 on Steam (steampowered.com) Multiple Springtraps are Hallucinations, not Glitches:
For those wondering what the new update is all about; I added a fourth star to the game for those who beat Aggressive Nightmare mode!
Also, there is some confusion about Springtrap appearing on multiple cameras and people thinking it's a glitch. It's not a glitch, even though I should have explained this better when I released the game. As long as the red light is flashing after a ventilation error, you may see multiple Springtraps. These are hallucinations.

This time, the terror has followed you home.
In this last chapter of the Five Nights at Freddy's original story, you must once again defend yourself against Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and even worse things that lurk in the shadows. Playing as a child whose role is yet unknown, you must safeguard yourself until 6am by watching the doors, as well as warding off unwanted creatures that may venture into your closet or onto the bed behind you.
You have only a flashlight to protect yourself. It will scare away things that may be creeping at the far end of the hallways, but be careful, and listen. If something has crept too close, then shining lights in its eyes will be your end.
Five Nights at Freddy's 4 on Steam (steampowered.com) The Box Post (The actual piece of lore relegated to Steam):
Hi guys! I wanted to post some information about the upcoming Halloween update. I started off a few months ago with several ideas in mind for what I wanted to release; ranging from DLC, to a new game, to opening the box (more on that later), but now I've been working steadily and have a pretty clear vision going forward.
The October 31st content will be an automatic update, not DLC. It will update the game to 1.1 and will include lots of goodies on the extras menu (for those who have beaten night 6), including a cheat menu, a challenge menu, and a twist on a familiar minigame that provides a boost when playing challenge modes. This also means that there will be a whole new set of stars to earn for those who are up to the challenge!
That part will be released for certain, and I'm hoping to have something else in addition to it, but it may not be ready. I have something fun in mind, a new game (not FNaF5), but it will be a real challenge to have even a small playable portion by Oct 31st. If a playable demo isn't ready by then, then at the very least there will be some sneak-peak content.
Now I want to talk about what WON'T be included... the box.
You know, when I released the first game over a year ago, I was amazed at how quickly everyone found every bit of lore and story. Then the same happened with part 2, fans and youtubers dug in and found everything. Game Theory did an incredible video on part 2; getting almost everything right. Then part 3 came out, and once again the story was uncovered by the community. It seemed that there was nothing I could hide!
But then I released part 4, and somehow.... no one, not a single person, found the pieces. The story remains completely hidden. I guess most people assumed that I filled the game with random easter eggs this time. I didn't. What's in the box? It's the pieces put together. But the bigger question is- would the community accept it that way? The fact that the pieces have remained elusive this time strikes me as incredible, and special, a fitting conclusion in some ways, and because of that, I've decided that maybe some things are best left forgotten, forever.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/388090/view/4033492738906633101?l=english FNAF World:
Hi everyone, this is a big update! :)
I wanted to keep my plans for a new game secret until Halloween, but while my teasers have created excitement for some people, they have created some confusion as well, mainly because people don't know if the Five Nights at Freddy's story is over or not.
It's very important for me to say again that there will NOT be a Five Nights at Freddy's 5. The story is complete, and the Halloween update and new game will not add to it.
That being said, I wanted to use these characters in a new and fun way because they are so near and dear to my heart, and I was excited to work on a type of game that I hadn't made in a long time.
The new game that I'm working on will be called FNAF World. It will not be a horror game, but a role playing game where you create a party using the huge selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered, toy, phantom, and nightmare versions. I've been working steadily on characters and hope to start on enemy models next week.
The bad news is that it's unlikely that a demo will be ready for Halloween like I had hoped, since this game's scope is significantly larger than previous games in the series. However, I will release a free demo, as promised, as soon as it's ready!
FNAF World will be released on PC, Android, and iOS. I don't have an estimated release date yet since the game is still early in development.
I hope you enjoy the new designs of the "adventure" characters, as I call them.
UPDATE: The
scottgames.com teaser is complete and includes every character that you can have in your party! Stay tuned in the coming months for more updates as the game progresses!
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/388090/view/4033492738906632983?l=english Halloween Update is Non-Canon:
Hi guys!
I wanted to make a quick announcement for everyone about what to expect with the Halloween update. I got myself into a tricky situation because I wanted to release an update but not change the basic game or lore. That limited me as to what I could change, so I announced that I would created a cheat menu, a challenge menu, and an updated minigame. I thought I was done. But no. ;)
It became clear to me that the community's expectations demanded more than just a cheat menu, so I was faced with my sticky situation yet again. But then I solved it:
On Halloween there will be TWO releases. One will be the content update for the official game, updating it to 1.1. This version is canon, as it always has been. This update will include the features originally promised such as the new challenges and cheats.
The second release will be a special Halloween edition of FNaF4, with a few changed characters and other cosmetic changes. This game is not canon, and is only for fun for the holidays. (this version will be free as well)
If everything works correctly, then players should have two launch choices on Halloween- the Standard Edition and the Halloween Edition.
If it doesn't work for some reason, then the Halloween Edition will be available on GameJolt instead.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location on Steam (steampowered.com) Custom Night is Non-Canon:
Hey guys! I wanted to let you all know that I'll be working on an update for the game that will add a "Custom Night" to the Extras menu.
To answer a few questions about it:
1) Yes, it will be FREE. When the update is ready, your games will automatically update to include this feature.
2) It will NOT be canon. (otherwise it would screw up the entire plotline!)
3) It will be unlocked only when you have 3-stars, so you'd better get to work!
4) Since it's not part of the game's "Story Mode", you will be able to jump right into the action from the Extras menu and restart as many times as you like.
5) It would have been awesome to have this ready for Halloween, but there's no way that will be possible. Be looking for this in December!

Enjoy!

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/738060/view/5156014950379793852?l=english Death Coin:
There is a new item available at the prize counter! For a lean 10 Faz-coins (price subject to change) you can purchase the Death Coin. You can only buy it once per night, and you can use it to eliminate one character from the roster, although only certain characters are susceptible to deletion.
Although this means that you can potentially eliminate a character who has been giving you trouble, it also means that you will have fewer coins to defend against characters who demand them, such as Rockstar Freddy, Baby, Nightmare Bonnie, and Nightmare Mangle. So if you choose to buy the coin, it can potentially put you in danger until you build up your coin count again.
The characters that are susceptible to deletion by Death Coin are:
- Bonnie
- Foxy
- Lefty
- Toy Freddy
- Funtime Foxy
- Marionette
- Rockstar Bonnie
The way this feature will work is that once you have purchased the Death Coin from the Prize Counter, there will be a Death Coin icon in the top left. Then when you are viewing a cam showing a vulnerable target, the icon will light up. If you click the Death Coin icon at that point, it will eliminate the target animatronic from the game.
Although this may seem pointless at first (after all, if you didn't want a certain character in the game, then why add them in the first place, right?), eliminating them in this way still gives you credit for beating that character. It isn't a freebie, it's a calculated risk. Spending ten Faz-Coins puts you at risk from other Faz-Coin hungry characters, so it's a choice that players must make depending on the circumstances, similar to how Rockstar Foxy comes with risk, despite the potential benefits.

2024.05.30 21:10 OlsroFR The difficult and long quest of turning an iPhone 5 into a good music player
Hello everyone !
Time to speak about new experiments on my iPhone 5 64GB that do not have any SHSH unfortunately.
That iPhone is in very good shape, the battery has already been replaced by the previous owner and it has no scratches even on the screen. So I do not want to replace it by searching for hours for any iOS 7 (powersnow) or iOS 6 iPhone 5 with a good amount space (32 or 64GB minimum) at a correct price. I paid for mine just 50 euros which is a very good deal in my opinion considering the battery has been already changed and considering its physical shape.
My priority now is to turn it into a very fast iPod Touch, primarly for offline music (around 20000 songs) synced with "Music" app on the Mac, along with some old games.
iOS 8.4.1
It is possible to downgrade to this iOS without any SHSH blob using Legacy iOS Kit. Let me tell anyone : don't waste your time with this iOS. It's terrible for music playing, since it has a terrible bug with large music librairies : as soon as you have duplicates (partial or total), the sync will be completely broken and thousands of songs will be missing without producing any bug to help you debugging by removing problematic files one by one. Not only on the Apple Music app, using a 3rd party app like "Foobar2000" will not circumvent syncing problems. The only way to be able to get all of my music was to transfer manually the music files to Foobar2000 with iFunBox. But well, syncing become very painful this way.
iOS 10
It is the maximum iOS supported by this device. Is is kinda boring, and it is also difficult to jailbreak and to keep the jailbreak.
Apple Music app is very laggy on the iPhone 5 with a lot of songs. Very bad experience. FooBar2000 works great and is beautiful with dark theme but the experience is in my opinion slower and less natural compared to the iOS 6 music app.
Coolbooted 6.1.4 with iOS 8.4.1
It's iOS 6, untethered ! But for some reason, Coolbooter has a terrible bug that no-one has reported somewhere : it has audio glitches. Those audio glitches can happen at any time especially when you use your device while playing music : when you lock your device, when you unlock it, when you switch between apps, when you open the notification center, etc
It is very frustrating. I tried every possible coolbooter setups (app, cli, and with data protection workaround enabled and disabled).
This problem does not exist on my real iOS 6 iPhone 4S or in a tethered setup that I explain below.
Tethered 6.1.4 with Legacy iOS Kit
Same as on top, but without the music sound glitches and with full disk space capacity. But there's a problem even worse with this setup : sometimes the phone decides to shut down while playing music : the music stops suddently to play and the phone performs a full reboot without producing any crash log.
Booting from an M2 mac is also painful : I need to launch 2 times the process because the tethered boot always fail the first time for whatever reason. It's also boring to always specify the specific build (10B350) each time I need to tethered boot.
Tethered 6.1.4 with n1ghtshade
This is my current setup since today. I don't know yet (did not use enough at the moment) if it is going to also completely freeze and reboot at random times while playing music. This setup is my last hope.
This setup was more difficult to make it work. The restore process was easy through the GUI app of nightshadde, but the jailbreak process from nightshade does not work anymore because some servers are down.
Posixpwn jailbreak has completely bricked by nightshade installation so don't use it to not waste time just like me.
Legacy iOS Kit worked for me to jailbreak my n1ghtshade installation, but it was tedious to do (I had to do 2 tethered boots during the process).
iOS 8.3
With Aria 1 cydia tweak, very good music player. However if has an annoying bug : indexes are messed up by one letter almost all time (artists starting by M are listed in "L").
iOS 7.1.2
Same as 8.3 without the nasty bug. Coupled with Aria 1 Cydia tweak, it seems like it is the ultimate classic player.
iOS 5 and iOS 6 sucks for music
Even using Foobar, there is real problem with those OS : they add perceiptable noise to some songs. It also happen even on my iPhone 4S which is native 6.1.3 or with my iPad 4. It's not terrific but annoying enough.
Audio file formats
To fit around 20000 songs on a 64GB device, you need a very good compression provided by the best encoder.
I use the tool "DBPoweramp" on a Mac to convert everything and add replaygain and soundcheck tag to all of my music files then I import everything to the "music" app of the Mac before syncing everything. Almost all of my source files are FLACs to get the best result after convert because it's not recommended to convert lossy a track that is already lossy (you will always lose more informations).
I first tried Apple HE-AAC v1 encoder VBR quality 54 (estimated bitrate : 81kbps) but the iOS 6 music app has a strange bug with those files. Often, when starting to play a song, the song will be in very poor quality during the first 2 seconds. It's a bit disturbing.
I now use the Apple HE-AAC v2 encoder at VBR quality 90 (estimated bitrate : 75kbps). But the quality was already really good with default settings which was : VBR quality 63 (estimated bitrate : 50kbps). Choose your poison depending of the amount of tracks you need to fit in. But always select a "VBR" preset, never CBR (Constant Bitrate). VBR will adapt the quality depending of the complexity of each music so it's better for quality and for saving space.
I also own a rockboxed iPod Classic full of FLACS and the audio quality is pretty much the same (which is kinda shocking considering the difference of file sizes, but well, that's how I feel it).
What's great compared to an iPod Classic
Almost just like old iPod Touchs, but a bit more. I will mainly focus on things as a fully offline device, so I will not mention a lot of apps and things that require Internet connection like YouTube.
So here is my little list :
- Bluetooth 4.0 on-board that work great to send sound to any portable speaker
- Take photos and videos (with poor quality for today standards but it's still fun)
- A flash that can be used as a torch-lamp. Very useful during the night or in dark environments, and the iPhone 5 had a powerful Flash (better than the iPhone 4S one).
- Touch controls are really much faster to navigate and to search for music content. Click wheel is funnier to use though.
- iOS 6 music app is insanely fast and smooth, it can search for things in around 2 seconds only before listing the results and it really never lags even with that huge amount of songs
- Fun games
- Passbook is great to store fidelity cards and things. It's a bit tedious to setup since you need to generate the files then send those card files to yourself by mail. Only the mail app since able on iOS 6 to import to passbook. But when your cards are imported, it will just work.
- Playing any web-radios using TuneIn Radio Pro v4.3 (don't use VLC, it has a strange bug where it glitches the sound each time you lock your device)
- Having maps of whole cities offline using the app "OpenMaps" which is based on OpenStreetMaps
My iOS 6 Cydia Tweaks List
Here is the list of every tweaks I am currently using :
- Activator (shortcuts everywhere)
- Apple File Conduit "2" (allows to transfer files easily through iFunBox)
- AppSync Unified (to sideload .ipas)
- AutoLSMusicControls (it will show music controls directly on the lockscreen without the need to double tap your home button if music is playing)
- Auxo (it is so good and brings the perfect multitask with cards to iOS 6)
- Bridge/ProTube (allows to import mp3 directly to the music library from the YouTube app repaired by TubeRepair)
- Clutch 2.0.4 (allows to backup .ipas)
- CrashReporter (gives important info about crashs)
- Cylinder (cool effects when moving from pages on the springboard)
- Display Recorder (allows to record your display)
- FullForce for Phone (allows to stretch non compatible games to the iPhone 5 screen)
- Harlem Shake (lol)
- iCleaner Pro (an utility to clear caches)
- iFile (the perfect file manager for iOS)
- Jukebox (a cool music widget for the notification center)
- LowPowerBanner (very good tweak for iOS 6, you will not get those annoying popups on your screen at 10 and 20% of battery but just little banners that will not interrupt your activity)
- MapsX (bring back Apple plans app)
- mikoto (allows to customize many things and to remove the EU volume limit)
- MobileTerminal (a terminal utility)
- NCSettings (a very cool tweak that add many toggles on the notification center)

Edits
2024/05/31 : I had a freeze today that forced me to hard reset my phone because I could not wake it up from sleep after having listened to music. I disabled the old TV effect on Springtomize and disabled UnlockFX. I also disabled control center and seconds on lockscreen.
2024/06/02 : Well I'm back in iOS 10. There is a nasty bug on iOS 5.0 to 6.1.4 that literally creates noise and glitch in only certain songs. Those glitches are audible and annoying. It's not related to HE-AAC compression since AAC-128 CBR also causes it (but not on my Mac and not on any device with iOS 7.1.2 or more) (i don't know for versions between 7.0 and 7.1.1). I am also back at using my iPod Classic loaded with FLACS for music listening, I am tired of all of those issues. iOS 10 Apple Music app is afterall not so bad and also not so slow. The app is also great and does not need any tweak to enhance it to feel like a good experience.
2024/06/03 : Audio noise bug in iOS 5 and iOS 6 can be fixed :
- Probably by using old iTunes AAC encoders (I don't know but it would make sense)
- Using fdk-aac encoder encoding CBR AAC (sounds good at 128kbps). Do not try HE-AAC or VBR, those sound artifacts will be here. Only CBR starting 128kbps will be good.
- Using CoreAudio ALAC encoder

2024.05.27 07:00 Milli5410 What do yall think about TinyPod
I’m not pretty interested in this little case for Apple Watch. Since not much information is out for the Case I do have some speculations. It’s a case that has a little gear that will spin the Digital Crown like the original iPods did with a physical spinning wheel. I just recently tried getting back into my IPod classic. And maybe starting mods again. But I found iTunes iPod support has broken iPod wizard for me. And I’m not sure if I’m that interested anymore into doing development of the themes again. submitted by Milli5410 to ipod [link] [comments]

Disclaimer: I'm bringing it here before any shutdown of AMH because lately, there's random stuff being posted there and a lack of control.
*
Deals from 2020 onward might still be possible in some ways. 1927:
- Fox Film and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer were planning to merge before being called off.
1929:
- Warner Bros Pictures, Inc. called off a merger with Paramount Famous Lasky Corporation.
1956:
- Suitors including what would become Associated Artists Pictures had been bidding for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's back catalog. MGM would eventually enter the TV market themselves.
1957:
- Associated Artists Pictures almost closed a deal to buy Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's shorts library (including the Tom and Jerry shorts) but shut it down due to the (unspecified) price tag.
1958:
- National Telefilm Associates announced plans to buy Associated Artists Pictures, which at this point was a subject of litigation. It would be United Artists who would buy them.
1971:
- 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer considered merging.
1982:
- Orion Pictures looked at buying Embassy Pictures and Allied Artists before settling in on Filmways.
- Warner Communications tried in July to buy back the rights to Metro-Goldwyn-MayeUnited Artists' pre-1950 WB library for the first time. The negotiations fell apart because of dozens of unresolved points, probably relating to the oldest Warner Bros. films. The second time was successful 14 years later with the Turner merger.
1984:
- Reliance Insurance attempted to take over Disney.
1985:
- Turner attempted to take over the Columbia Broadcasting System for $5.4 billion.
- Viacom was looking to buy 50% of MGM/UA from Turner.
1987:
- Carolco Pictures attempted to buy Orion Pictures and Media Home Entertainment.
- NBC considered buying the Turner Broadcasting System.
1989:
- MCA offered to buy Disney.
- Bill Cosby tried to buy a stake in NBC.
- Jim Henson attempted to merge his company with The Walt Disney Company for $150 million.
- Before Time Warner, Paramount Communications, which just rose up from Gulf+Western planned to merge with Time Inc before the latter went with Warner Communications.
- Viacom itself even planned to merge with Gulf+Western, 5 years before making a full-on successful buyout.
- Viacom was even in talks with MCA Inc., the owner of Universal Studios, according to the same article.
- Ted Turner somehow tried to repurchase Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, this time including the United Artists side.
- News Corporation, which also owned 20th Century Fox, also bid for MGM/UA.
- Qintex (which would later become Seven Media) also planned to buy MGM/UA for A$1.5 billion.
1991:
- In March, Brøderbund ended merger talks with Sierra On-Line, and given that date, it most likely started plans in the previous year.
- Turner's New Line Cinema looked into buying Orion, which the interests of Republic Pictures, Savoy Pictures, the American Broadcasting Company, and Polygram would also follow.
1992:
- MCA and Hallmark were originally the buyers for Hanna-Barbera but got outbid by Turner, which merged with Time Warner.
1993:
- In September, QVC tried a hostile $9.6 billion bid for Paramount Communications before a lawsuit came in, and lost to a $9.85 billion bid from Viacom in February.
1994:
- Bell Atlantic planned to buy Tele-Communications Inc. for $33 billion. TCI would later head for AT&T 5 years later.
- Time Warner Communications tried to buy NBC from General Electric for $2 to 2.5 billion.
- The Walt Disney Company and the ITT Corporation also were in talks to buy NBC.
1995:
- News Corporation, MCA, Time Warner Communications and Cinergi placed bids for Carolco Pictures before Le Studio Canal+ took over.
- Brøderbund bid for the original The Learning Company, before SoftKey bought them and adopted their name. They would buy Brøderbund in 1998.
1996:
- Before fatefully settling its eyes upon Sierra On-Line and Davidson & Associates (Blizzard, Animation Magic, and Knowledge Adventure), Comp-U-Card International, or more unfortunately named, CUC's Walter Forbes had considered a larger company that consisted of not just Sierra and Davidson, but also Brøderbund and LucasArts.
- After having Broadway Video's family library for dinner, Golden Books planned to buy out Nelvana.
- Microsoft nearly acquired Davidson & Associates (Blizzard) on the first try, but they lost to Comp-U-Card. In December 1997, CUC merged with HFS, and the new company was renamed Cendant, which would suffer a big accounting scandal.
- British Telecom, who owned a partial stake since 1994, bid $22 billion for MCI.
- For a year, Polygram attempted to buy out Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Samuel Goldwyn.
- News Corporation and Morgan Creek also bid for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
1997:
- GTE, which eventually merged with Bell Atlantic to become Verizon 3 years later, bid $28 billion for MCI. Eventually, Worldcom kicked in.
- GoodTimes Interactive planned to buy MicroProse for $250 million before letting Hasbro Interactive take it in. Coincidentally, both GoodTimes AND Hasbro Interactive would be bought out by Infogrames (later Atari SA) in 1999 and 2001, respectively.
- Epic Pictures had offers to be bought by Artisan, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Disney before PolyGram succeeded to buy it. PolyGram would eventually sell it to Metro-Goldwyn-MayeOrion over a year later.
1998:
- Microsoft tried to acquire Davidson & Associates (Blizzard) for the second time from Cendant, but they were beaten by Havas, which was owned by Vivendi.
- Viacom's Paramount Pictures offered to buy French art house studio CiBy 2000 for 500 million francs, or roughly $80 million in USD. The founder's widow, however, refused, and the catalog was dispersed between TF1, MK2, and several companies. Thirty-two years later, Paramount would get almost half of an indie film studio: Miramax.
1999:
- MCI Worldcom tried to buy Sprint for $129 billion. After a 2001 scandal, Worldcom (name since 2000) was renamed to MCI Inc., which would get bought by Verizon in 2006. Sprint merged with T-Mobile US 14 years after MCI went to Verizon.
- Global Crossing offered to buy US West for $37 billion before Qwest outbid them. Coincidentally, the rest seems to have been a big wave of all coming together, as Global Crossing (after a bankruptcy in 2002) would get bought by Level 3 in 2011, which itself would be bought in 2016 by CenturyLink WHO MERGED with Qwest back in 2010.
- Artisan Entertainment and Canal+ were speculated to pick up PolyGram Filmed Entertainment.
- Two years before the release of the Xbox, Microsoft approached Nintendo about buying them. The deal was that they would make the hardware for Nintendo, but the latter's executives "laughed their asses off."
- They also tried to buy Squaresoft, Electronic Arts, and Midway around this time.
- CanWest Global attempted to acquire NetStar (which consisted of TSN and Discovery Canada), but was vetoed by ESPN. CTV would eventually buy it.
- Francis Ford Coppola planned to buy United Artists from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
2000:
- Activision and partial owner Nintendo bid for Rareware until Microsoft bought them out 2 years later.
- Netflix offers to be bought by Blockbuster for $50 million, but they decline.
- Warner Music Group tried to buy British music label EMI for $20 billion but canceled the merger after pressure. Info here. After EMI's bankruptcy in 2011, Warner would buy Parlophone from it for $765 million, about 40% of EMI's record label.
2001:
- Sesame Workshop was put up for sale, with speculated buyers being Viacom, AOL Time Warner, The Walt Disney Company, and Classic Media.
- The Jim Henson Company was also up for sale to The Walt Disney Company, Viacom, HIT Entertainment, AOL Time Warner, Haim Saban, and Classic Media.
- Chris-Craft (involved in the United Paramount Network) offered to be bought by Viacom for $3.1 billion until News Corp came in.
- Before NBC came in, the bidders of Telemundo were Viacom, The Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation (later absorbed into Univision), The Walt Disney Company, and AOL Time Warner.
2002:
- Viacom and USA Network were originally speculated to buy Fox Family Worldwide before it was sold by News Corp to The Walt Disney Company.
2003:
- Emtv tried to sell The Muppets to Sesame Workshop and ClassicMedia.
- Before Lionsgate took the shot, Marvel and Miramax were placing a bid to pick up Artisan.
- Viacom, Liberty Media Corp, News Corporation, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Barry Diller were also bidding to buy Universal Studios and its theme parks.
2004:
- Comcast tried to buy Disney for $66 billion.
- Take-Two Interactive Software considered buying Vivendi Universal Games for $1 billion, which was below what Vivendi Universal wanted. Vivendi Games, after its parent company stripped itself of Universal Studios to make NBC Universal, would merge with Activision Publishing four years later to create Activision Blizzard, now part of Microsoft.
- In June, an unnamed financier offered $10 million for TheFacebook, the first of many attempts over the next three years.
- Friendster also offered to buy them, according to documents seen by SAI Global.
- A couple of Google execs visited Facebook's office to see if there was a way to work with Zuckerberg or perhaps even buy his company.
- 2 years after Kirk Kerkorian put Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer up for sale, Time Warner emerged as a bidder for the studio. The bid wasn't unexpected, as Ted Turner was the largest shareholder. After all, his Turner Entertainment Group had risen to success through its ownership of the pre-May 1986 library, which had been acquired by the bidder when they merged with Turner eight years prior.
- Casey-Werner was looking to sell itself to a large media company but would later decide against selling. The potential suitors were General Electric/Vivendi's NBC Universal and the first incarnation of Viacom, which owned CBS.
- Channel 4 considered merging with Channel 5 for nine months before calling it off. Five would later get bought by RTL Group.
2005:
- Viacom offered to buy out TheFacebook for $75 million; the deal would have Mark Zuckerburg earn $35 million "on the spot".
- MySpace's CEO Chris DeWolfe also visited Mark and his team to buy them.
- NBC Universal's NBC execs stopped by "for a peek" this year.
- In the fall, Mark Zuckerberg flew to New York to meet with Viacom CEO Tom Freston. Tom would pitch all sorts of synergies to Mark between MTV and Facebook.
- Before creating an alliance consisting of Pandemic Studios and BioWare, Elevation Partners planned to buy out Eidos Interactive before SCi (no, not Sony Computer Interactive) stepped in and bought them in May. The Pandemic and BioWare alliance would get bought by Electronic Arts 2 years later, with the former studio shutting down two years later.
- Five months before Viacom purchased Dreamworks SKG, there were rumors that NBC Universal would buy the then-independent studio for $2.5 billion. Dreamworks Pictures already used Universal's film distribution and home entertainment divisions to distribute their products.
2006:
- In January, News Corporation's Ross Levinsohn wanted to buy Facebook but was worried the deal might not keep up its growth.
- Viacom sent the company a $1.5 billion offer--$800 million in cash up front, the rest a payout later. In this case, it's said it "almost sold."
- In June, Yahoo! offered $1 billion, only to... lower it to $850 million after announcing horrible Q2 earnings.
- In the fall, they suggested they would pay $1 billion or more.
- In the middle of the year, AOL's CEO Johnathan Miller wanted to buy the company, convincing Time Inc.'s CEO to come in on the deal they took to their parent company Time Warner. A detailed plan would have AOL sell MapQuest and Tegic, while Time Inc. would sell IPC. Together, they'd offer $1 billion-plus.
- At least according to the YouTuber Hook: before Google came in, the bidders for YouTube were News Corporation, Microsoft, Yahoo!, and even Viacom, the last of which, after the Google purchase, would coldly claim YouTube infringed copyright, losing in the long end, and, after a CEO change, bought VidCon.
- In November, National Transcommunications Limited (or NTL for short) approached ITV plc with a merger bid. However, it would get blocked when British Sky Broadcasting (now Sky UK) bought roughly 18% of ITV for £940 million ($117.3 million in US dollars).
- RTL Group, who owned Channel 5 at the time, also bid at one point; the plan would have seen RTL acquiring Sky's stake in ITV plc (with the aim of further acquisitions of shares in the future) in exchange for BSkyB taking full control of Channel 5.
2007:
- Google offered to buy Facebook.
- Microsoft also offered to buy a small stake in the platform at a $15 billion valuation, then have the option, every six months, to buy another 5 percent. The complete takeover would've been well within five to seven years. While it never happened, they did buy 1.6% of the company for about $250 million, a deal which set their value at $15 billion.
2008:
- A reverse merger deal between DHX Media and Entertainment One was considered.
- Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo! for $47.5 billion until the latter let Google display its ads on the site.
- There were later debunked rumors of Viacom buying Take-Two Interactive, around the time of the next one:
- Electronic Arts even tried to buy Take-Two Interactive until September.
- France Télécom (present-day Orange) planned to buy Swedish telco TeliaSonera for $40 billion, but both could not come to an agreement.
- Square Enix planned to buy Tecmo, but the latter insisted on a merger of equals with Koei.
2009:
- Lionsgate announced plans on February 1 to buy Summit Entertainment, but 2 days later, the plans fell through. Lionsgate would end up purchasing Summit in 2012.
- Before Comcast came in, Time Warner and News Corporation were originally interested in buying NBC Universal from General Electric and Vivendi.
- News Corporation, Time Warner, Amir Malin's Qualia Capital, and Lionsgate Entertainment were bidding for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Holdings during its bankruptcy. Time Warner already owned the pre-May 1986 MGM library, had enough cash reserves, and co-produced the Hobbit films with the studio. News Corporation's 20th Century Fox, meanwhile, was Metro Goldwyn Mayer's home entertainment distributor at the time.
2010:
- News Corporation made a plan for the takeover of British Sky Broadcasting (already owning 39.1% until then) in June for 700 pounds per share for the remaining 60.9% shares until two turning points came: the removal of regulatory approval from Vincent Cable in December, and the more infamous 2011 News of the World phone hacking incident, which caused the bid to fall to its face.
- In a part 2, two more bidders, Reliance Entertainment (about $1.8 billion) and Relativity Media (about $1.6 billion) went onboard for MGM Holdings. But by November 3rd, MGM Holdings filed bankruptcy and emerged almost a month later when the Federal Bankruptcy Court approved the reorganization plan.
2011:
- AT&T tried to buy T-Mobile US for $39 billion.
- Hulu found itself in an unsolicited offer that was said to involve Google and Yahoo!. Ultimately, none of the bidders offered an amount satisfactory to its owners.
- World Wrestling Entertainment and the UFC were in separate talks to buy G4 until UFC went into a deal with Fox and WWE built its network.
- Before Mattel chipped in, the other bidders planning to buy HiT Entertainment from Apax Partners were The Walt Disney Company, the second incarnation of Viacom, rival Hasbro, ClassicMedia (which would be bought by Dreamworks Animation, which is now a Comcast company), Chorion, and Saban Brands.
2012:
- CBS was also rumored to buy Sony Pictures from Sony.
2013:
- Facebook's Instagram attempted to buy Snapchat for $3 billion in cash due to the latter's introduction of Stories. 3 years later, Instagram made their own Stories.
- Yahoo! considered buying either Netflix or Hulu until they fatefully decided upon Tumblr for $1.1 billion.
- DirecTV and Time Warner also bid for Hulu.
- Time Warner was stated to be one of the buyers of THQ until its bankruptcy in the same year, followed by Nordic Games buying its trademark in 2014.
- ZeniMax Media also made a $26.3 million bid for THQ's Relic Entertainment before Sega came in.
- Dish Network considered buying Sprint for $25.5 billion.
- RTL Group's Fremantle attempted to buy out All3Media.
- Microsoft was negotiating to purchase HTC, a fact revealed by former Nokia chairman Risto Siilasmaa during an interview with the Helsingin Sanomat, or Hesari. Microsoft would later buy Nokia's mobile phone business that year.
- On the topic of mobile phones, Lenovo planned to buy Blackberry Limited, but the Canadian government blocked the deal due to security concerns because prominent members of governments around the world have used Blackberries themselves. They would later buy Motorola Mobility from Google in January 2014 for $2.91 billion.
2014:
- 21st Century Fox offered an $80 billion bid for Time Warner, but a potential CNN spinoff was one of the reasons why it became unattractive and fell.
- Hasbro planned to buy DreamWorks Animation to form Hasbro-Dreamworks, two years before Comcast went in.
- SoftBank was also planning to buy Dreamworks Animation for $3.4 billion.
- Comcast tried to buy Time Warner Cable for $45.2 billion but faced a ton of madness to the point of abandonment.
- BT, ITV plc, Channel 4, Comcast (through NBCUniversal), Endemol, Time Warner, Viacom, Scripps Network Interactive, Saban Capital Group, and a joint bid of BSkyB and Discovery Communications were all bidders reportedly interested in acquiring Channel 5. Viacom won.
2015:
- There were some fears of Yahoo! buying Dailymotion from Orange, which were soon quelled by Vivendi's purchase of the site.
- Apple had considered buying TimeWarner.
2016:
- Before Viacom bought Telefe from Telefonica, Time Warner and the Cisneros Group were bidding for the network.
- 21st Century Fox tried a $32.5 billion bid for Sky until they were bought by Disney. Comcast eventually kicked in and bought Sky.
- Vivendi attempted a bid to buy out Ubisoft for $6.4 billion before ending the hostile takeover bid 2 years later. Today, Ubisoft is partially owned by Tencent.
- Disney somehow planned to merge with Time Warner before AT&T went into negotiations.
- Activision Blizzard's CEO Bobby Kotick somehow considered buying TimeWarner before AT&T took it.
- National Amusements sends a letter to both CBS Corporation and Viacom asking them to merge back. It's declined... for now.
- ITV plc placed a £1 billion ($1.3 billion USD) offer to buy eOne, which they rejected. Hasbro bought them for $4 billion in 2019.
- The Walt Disney Company planned to buy Twitter but decided not because there were a substantial amount of bots.
- Microsoft, Salesforce, and Google were also said to bid for Twitter.
- Viacom tried to sell a stake of Paramount Pictures to Dalian Wanda, but it fell through, thankfully.
- Spotify was rumored to be looking into buying SoundCloud. It would be complementary as Spotify targets signed artists, and SoundCloud targets indies.
2017:
- 22 companies comprising but not limited to Viacom, Miramax, Ronald Wayne Burkle's Yucaipa, Lionsgate, A&E, Sony, and MGM all placed bids for The Weinstein Company.
- Viacom was going to take in Scripps Networks Interactive before Discovery Communications came through with a $12 billion outbid.
- Comcast, Sony, and Verizon were the other bidders for 21st Century Fox's assets. Comcast's bid persisted until July 2018, leaving it to The Walt Disney Company in March 2019.
- Tribune Media announced its sale to Sinclair Broadcast Group, but 15 months later, they were sued for a breach of contract. They would merge with future CW majority owner Nexstar Media Group for $4.1 billion.
- Hasbro attempted to buy Lionsgate.
2018:
- Viacom, CBS (both would re-merge in 2019), Verizon, Comcast, Amazon (later would buy MGM in 2022), Sony, and Hasbro again were speculated to buy Lionsgate, and there were rumors that a combined CBS-Viacom would buy out the studio, with Vice Chairman Michael Burns implying in an interview with CNBC that Lionsgate, CBS, and Viacom all merge.
- Google was eyeing Epic Games before starting their own cloud service called "Project Stream", later named Stadia, which lasted until 2023.
- Endeavor, All3Media, ITV plc, DHX Media, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures, and Fremantle were all in the running for Endemol Shine Group. Banijay would merge with them two years later.
2019:
- Univision was speculated to be bought by ViacomCBS in articles like this, before Televisa (sort of) came in 2 years later, to form TelevisaUnivision.
- Before Viacom re-merged with CBS, there were rumors of the latter entity buying Starz from Lionsgate.
- Before ViacomCBS kicked in, the bidders for a 50% stake in Miramax were the second incarnation of Viacom, Lionsgate (which had the home video rights to Miramax, at least in the United States), and Spyglass Media Group, who had been the owner of The Weinstein Company's library a year ago. Spyglass was the first to exit talks, followed by Lionsgate a month later. After two months, Viacom went out of the discussion until the re-merge with CBS Corporation meant they would resume buyout talks with Miramax.
- ViacomCBS was also speculated to buy Discovery pre-announcement of the Warner Bros Discovery deal two years later.
- Continuing on with the post-merger 'nundrum, ViacomCBS was also rumored to buy Sony Pictures and even Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
- Xerox planned until 2020 to buy out Hewlett-Packard for $33.5 (later $35.0 in the second bid) billion. Hewlett-Packard indicated it would make its counteroffer for Xerox.
- Cineworld Cinemas was close to buying Canadian cinema chain Cineplex Entertainment in December, but the acquisition was scrapped six months later due to the former's allegations of material adverse effect and breaches against the latter that prompted a lawsuit from Cineplex that led Cineworld to pay damages of C$1.23 billion as a result of terminating the acquisition plans.
2020:
- Microsoft not only (and this was very publicized) tried to buy Tiktok, but almost tried to buy out Capcom, Nintendo, and even Warner Bros. Games.
- Apple and Netflix were rumored to buy Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
- Take-Two Interactive was going to buy Codemasters for $994 million and assign it under 2K, before being trumped by Electronic Arts with a billion-dollar bid.
- ViacomCBS initially planned to sell Simon and Schuster to Penguin Random House but ended up in a blockage two years later.
- Before that announcement, News Corp (HarperCollins) and Vivendi (Editis) were said to be the other bidders for S&S.
Around this time,
Lionsgate made an unsolicited offer to merge
Starz with
ViacomCBS' Showtime. 2021:
- Comcast had some plans to buy Activision Blizzard, at least according to Puck.
- In a better-known attempt, they considered spinning off NBCUniversal and merging it with Electronic Arts, which sadly never materialized.
- Comcast was speculated to merge with ViacomCBS after the announcement of the Warner-Discovery deal, which would only get churned down to SkyShowtime for specific regions.

- In the finale of the Simon and Schuster sale, the other bidder besides Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts was News Corp's HarperCollins.
- Paramount Global planned to sell BET to people including Byron Allen, Shaquille O'Neal, and 50 Cent, until deciding that the networks were a core asset.
- Before Skydance Media and Paramount Global agreed to a merger, a consortium of Apollo and Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. Discovery, Allen Media Group, and Redbird Capital Partners were bidding for Paramount.

I may have missed some but with how slow and buggy the Xbox 360 store has been, I'm not pressing the 'A' button a thousand times.
This is part 2 of 4
I hope this helps.

2024.05.20 04:30 Unhappy_Ad6085 My iPod in all its finished glory.
iPod 5.5 Gen in a 6th gen classic housing (I prefer the metal housing even if it’s harder to disassemble but wanted to keep the better sound quality imo from the 5.5) with RockBox and the Oni theme. submitted by Unhappy_Ad6085 to ipod [link] [comments]
2024.05.19 14:08 JCTeddy TD Game I used to play in my ipod touch
I used to play this game in my ipod touch around 2008-2010
It was a Tower Defense game Theme was japanese warriors, samurais Graphics were like cartoons, not realistic. I remember having the word "sanjo" on the tittle. But I'm not so sure since I can't find it by that name in Google.
I think this is the best I can describe it, but let me know if you have any question and I could try to remember. Thank you!

2024.05.17 00:29 Kinkajou_05 2000s-early 2010s song about heartbreak by a woman with a D in her name, mentions of metaphorical wounds, pop song
There is this song I cannot remember for the life of me. I listened to it as a child in the early 2010s, so I'm not sure if it's from the early 2010s or the 2000s. It was along the lines of a heartbreak song, that had the theme of "words like knives" and intense hurt. I think glass was mentioned at least once. The artist was a woman and I'm pretty sure her name had a D in it. It's not Taylor swift's mean. I've be trying to find this song for days now, but I don't know the name or the artist and barely remember the gist of the lyrics. I'm starting to wonder if I hallucinated it but I used to listen to it religiously on my iPod when I did chores. I'm like 90% sure it was a pop song.
Edit: found the song! It's human by Kristina perry

2024.05.16 17:46 icraveliquid Pictureflow only showing grey "?" / not working on ipod classic 6th gen
Hi people, I installed rockbox on my ipod classic 6th gen 160G / "7th gen" with the FreshOS theme, and after taking the hang of it and fiddling with it a bit it's working pretty well, except for pictureflow which never worked, with or without freshOS on. It launches fine, but all displayed icons are grey squares with question marks.
This is really annoying, as the tree folder structure isn't the easiest to use for music selection with the wheel, and as I tend to use album covers rather than titles to know which songs I'm looking at. Does anyone have a fix for this, or has it been documented elsewhere ? Thanks.

2024.05.14 06:10 LPT_Abuser Dude, most theme parks have Wifi throughout, so you can bring old phones or iPods without LTE for younger kids to take pictures, use the park app, or Facetime you in an emergency, moron.

2024.05.12 20:25 U5ER_96 A iOS 1.1 Themed iPod Touch 1
2024.05.12 13:29 _Sovin Hi there, I’m looking for iPod collectors, who has knowledge about Limited Edition iPods 🔎 I want to talk on this theme and maybe made some exchange of gems 🤝 Please write your comments below or DM 😉
2024.05.09 22:53 hr_pleasedontfireme Built a PC 5 years ago and it shit the bed, need a new one. $2-2.5K
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible and include specific games or programs you will be using.
• 3D Modeling (Fusion 360), Games (AAA Games on highest settings), VR (HTC Vive, upgrading soon, just not sure to what, but not a standalone unit), A LOT of doing 2-3 things at once (Ex.: 3D Modeling on 1 monitor, with web pages open on 2nd monitor, and Youtube playing on a 3rd monitor)
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
• $2,000.00, I don't mind going over by $500 or so if it will greatly improve some aspect
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
• About 2 weeks
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
• The tower and all enclosed bits
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
• Connecticut, USA. No Microcenter near by.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
• I don't have the brand/model on me, but I'll be reusing 4x Monitors (Using a 4x HDMI to USB-C Adapter), Keyboard (USB-A), Mouse (Bluetooth), Charging Mouse Pad (USB-A), Sound System (TOSLINK & USB-A), Microphone (USB-A).
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
• Nope
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
• I would like a bit of storage, maybe 3 TB, I trust your best judgement.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
• I don't care about looks, I'd rather spend the money on performance. I would prefer to have a couple USB-A and USB-C ports on the front or top of the tower, but it's not a big deal if it doesn't
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
• No, I have a copy of Windows 11 Pro
