2024.05.15 12:37 ShowerRepulsive9549 Atheistic proof pits science against history

Full disclosure, I approach this from the perspective of what one would call Christianity, though I no longer identify with modern Christianity.
Too often the atheist argument is, “Science has been proven, but the Bible is just words in a book that who knows who wrote.”
I argue here that this is apples to oranges.
It’s true that the young earth understanding combats science. However, the sources are still apples to oranges. Scientific sources are (more or less) contemporary, and concern the observation of phenomena and experimentation.
But what we’re dealing with in Scripture is historical narrative (except in those cases where the style is clearly poetry), not scientific study. This isn’t a case of setting one set of experiments against another to prove which theory is true.
Historical writings always bear a level of uncertainty. Yet none of us argue that Herodotus or Tacitus are unreliable just because we don’t know for sure who wrote their works, or that they’re telling the truth, or more pertinently, that their writings have no scientific basis.
If you want to disprove Christianity with science, you can only do so for certain by proving beyond a shadow of a doubt what brought the world into being. Or by finding the body of Jesus Christ, proving the resurrection and ascension was a lie. Or by bringing the theory of macroevolution into the realm of observed fact, by way of direct observation, which is impossible considering how long it’s stated to take.
After all, is this not how science would disprove a historical account? If Sima Qian wrote that the emperor of Han was the son of a tributary daughter of Daqin, wouldn’t the way for science to disprove this be to test the DNA of the emperor of his day for Italic heritage?

2024.05.15 12:36 Traditional-Stick-15 Pushy aunt sends lingerie as Mother’s Day gift to ‘help’ me get pregnant…

My husband and I have been actively TTC for over a year now and started fertility testing last month. We’ve been married for over 5 years so all I’ve heard our whole marriage from family and friends is ‘when are you going to have kids?’ It’s annoying atp.
After being backed into a corner, I told my aunt in the fall we were trying. For MONTHS she’s been texting me constantly ‘I’m praying for you to get pregnant today.’ ‘Do you have news for us this thanksgiving?’ ‘I had a dream about grandma, your baby is coming soon’ etc…I always respond no news yet I will let you know when there’s something to share. And still, she texts constantly.
I get a text from her that she sent me a Mother’s Day gift…inappropriate, but I figured it would be a onesie or a baby book and I’d just open it (prayerfully next Mother’s Day…since I am not a mother in any way rn). She texts me that it’s lingerie to ‘help’ me and my husband get pregnant. 🤯 I very firmly said do not send anymore gifts or texts and trust that I will share any news with her when the time comes.
I really came here not bc I’m terribly upset at her behavior, but I don’t really have anyone to vent to. My mom and husband already blamed me for sharing, given I know how notoriously difficult and lacking in boundaries my aunt is. And all my close friends are single and crying to me about dates and work…I just don’t have any peers to talk to about this stuff or listen to me.
Appreciate any shared thoughts or similar experiences. (FYI I plan on donating the lingerie…I am NOT wearing that smh)
TL;DR As title says, pushy aunt sent me lingerie for Mother’s Day. I am NOT a mother and TTC. My mom and husband blame me for telling her we are TTC. I have no peers to relate to bc they are all single. Just here to vent and hear stories from others.

2024.05.15 12:27 AaJLL Physical Standards

Good morning,
Quick question for past, present and hopefuls…
How do you feel about the decreasing high fitness standards on entry? Do you think it create worse soldiers or do you think the lower standards for entry are ok due to the Commando Test standards being the same?
Surely, it should matter what fitness level for recruits are like when the end product is the same. I understand hitting the maximums for the RMFA, but again, does unreal fitness make a better soldier?
PJFA is getting closer (although not booked) and CPC should follow shortly after due to me being slightly above the minimums across the board, just feel a bit worried that I’m nowhere near why I’d want to be, so can mindset make up for lack of fitness? Or am I in for a fucking off the training team?
Also, I spoke to a ex RMC yesterday, imposing fucker, bit scary as well due to the fact it’s like looking in the mirror and seeing everything you want to be, and not knowing if you’ve got the minerals. That’s why we try I suppose.

Kansas

Despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have allowed abortion restrictions in the state, Kansas Republicans passed several anti-abortion bills into law late last month, overriding the governor’s veto.
The first bill, HB 2436, makes it a crime to “coerce” someone into having an abortion. Democrats attempted to widen the scope of the bill to include all kinds of reproductive coercion, like pressuring someone to become or stay pregnant and prohibiting their access to birth control, and enshrine a right to “reproductive autonomy.” Republicans voted down the amendment.
The second bill, HB 2749, requires medical facilities and providers to (1) ask patients their reason for having an abortion and (2) report the data, including personal information about the patient, to the legislature every other year. Gov. Laura Kelly (D) agreed with the objections of Democrats and reproductive rights advocates, saying when she vetoed the bill that there is “no valid reason to force a woman to disclose to the legislature why she is seeking an abortion.”
  • Democrats offered numerous amendments to HB 2749, including one to require men to report to the legislature their reasons for having a vasectomy and another requiring men to report why they are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction. Republicans rejected all of them.
Finally, the Republican legislature overrode Kelly’s line-item veto allocating $2 million to the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, created last year with a different veto override. The program is run by an anti-abortion group called the Kansas Pregnancy Care Network, which refers pregnant people to crisis pregnancy centers designed to use misleading information to discourage them from obtaining an abortion.

Louisiana

Louisiana’s legislature is doubling down on its anti-abortion laws, passing bills to increase criminalization and refusing to add exemptions to its abortion ban.
Earlier this month, the Louisiana House took up a bill passed by the Senate that would make it a crime, punishable by jail time, to possess abortion-inducing medication. SB 276, sponsored by 23 Republicans and one Democrat, was initially written to create a punishment for coercing someone into an abortion without their knowledge or consent (e.g. spiking a drink). However, House legislators recently added an amendment to the bill that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV substances alongside some opioids and benzodiazepines. A pregnant person possessing the drugs for their own use could not be charged, but others who intend to distribute them to pregnant people seeking an abortion or store them for their own potential future use would face up to ten years in prison.
“Neither is a drug of abuse or dependence, and that is what the controlled drug schedule is for,” said [emergency room Dr. Jennifer] Avegno of the abortion drugs. “It makes no scientific or medical sense to put these drugs in the same category as Xanax or Valium.”
Mifepristone is a drug that blocks a hormone called progesterone, which is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions, causing the body to expel the pregnancy tissue. Mifepristone is also used to treat Cushing’s disease, a hormonal disorder. Misoprostol is also used to induce labor, manage a miscarriage and in the treatment of ulcers. Neither are addictive. “People do not go around taking them and getting dependent and having bad outcomes because of it,” said Avegno. “It’s like saying your blood pressure medicine or insulin is a drug of abuse.”
A week later, Republicans on the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 7-4 to reject a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state’s total abortion ban. House Bill 164, written by Democratic Rep. Delisha Boyd, would have allowed girls younger than 17 to have abortions if they became pregnant as the result of sexual assault.
“That baby [in the womb] is innocent … We have to hang on to that,” said committee member Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, who voted against the bill. Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Spring, also voted against the legislation, saying the proposed law would be difficult to enforce. Teenagers who had consensual sex might feign rape or incest in order to get access to abortion services, she suggested…
Dr. Neelima Sukhavasi, a Baton Rouge doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, also implored the lawmakers to approve Boyd’s proposal. She and her colleagues have delivered babies for pregnant teenagers, including mothers as young as 13, since Louisiana’s abortion ban went into effect two years ago. These young pregnant people can experience health complications that affect them for the rest of their lives, Sukhavasi said, and sometimes don’t have the mental capacity to handle the births. “One of these teenagers delivered a baby while clutching a teddy bear,” she told the committee.
The Committee also killed three other bills: HB 56, to allow abortions in cases of spontaneous miscarriage or nonviable pregnancy; HB 63, to clarify that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion under state law; HB 293, to add protection for physicians who do not intend to induce abortion by prescribing certain medications.

Texas

Meanwhile, in Texas—a state that pioneered the war on women and reproductive rights—a man initiated legal action to sue people who helped his former partner obtain an out-of-state abortion.
The man, Collin Davis, filed a petition in a state district court seeking permission to launch legal depositions to collect evidence for a potential lawsuit under a Texas law that contains civil liability for anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion. According to his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell (who crafted the anti-abortion law), Davis is seeking to sue “co-conspirators and accomplices…involved in the murder of [his] unborn child.”
“Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” he wrote. “They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.”
Molly Duane, a senior staff attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights, described Mitchell’s statement and general approach as misleading “fearmongering.”
“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion,” said Duane, who is working with lawyers from the firm Arnold & Porter to represent the woman and others targeted in the Davis case. “I don’t want people to be intimidated, but they should be outraged and alarmed.” Duane described the woman’s relationship with Davis as “toxic and harmful.”
Mitchell also represents a different man who pursued a similar claim last year: Marcus Silva engaged Mitchell to sue the friends of his estranged wife for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills. Evidence later revealed that Silva knew about the plans beforehand and did not intervene, likely intending to use the threat of legal action as a way of forcing his partner to halt divorce proceedings.
Monday’s counterclaim illustrates, in painstaking detail, exactly how Silva—aided by Mitchell—allegedly deployed this tactic. It was only after Brittni’s abortion was complete that Silva revealed he knew about the plan and, according to the lawsuit, threatened to turn her in if she didn’t submit to his continued abuse. He even showed the police photographs of messages discussing the possibility of an abortion. “Once I finally got home with the girls he had been drinking and he told me that he knew,” Brittni texted one friend. “He’s using it against me.” In another message, she wrote, “Now he’s saying if I don’t give him my ‘mind body and soul’ until the end of the divorce, which he’s going to drag out, he’s going to make sure I go to jail for doing it.” […]
The counterclaim points out another flaw in his argument: Silva himself “is responsible for the alleged injury for which he seeks to recover.” He “knew that Brittni planned to terminate her alleged pregnancy and acquiesced in accepting Brittni’s actions,” so “it would be unconscionable to permit him to benefit by changing his position now.” His claims, in short, are barred “by unclean hands,” because he effectively entrapped his estranged wife—covertly discovering her plan to terminate the pregnancy, then allowing her to go through with it for the express purpose of blackmailing her into staying with him.

Indiana

A three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals last month unanimously recognized a religious freedom challenge to the state’s complete ban on abortion.
The case, brought by Hoosier Jews for Choice and four anonymous women of various faiths, alleges that the ban interferes with “their sincere religious beliefs that require and direct them to obtain abortions” criminalized since the law took effect in 2023. According to Jewish law, a fetus does not have personhood until birth, and abortion is required if the pregnancy endangers the life or health of the mother.
Brief of Hoosier Jews for Choice (and other plaintiffs): As indicated by the declarations of numerous rabbis, Judaism teaches that a fetus becomes a living person only at birth, and prior to that is considered part of the woman’s body, without independent rights. Abortion should occur and is mandated to end a pregnancy that may cause serious consequences to a woman’s mental or physical heath. Judaism also recognizes that physical health risks are not limited to those likely to cause substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Judaism stresses the necessity of protecting the physical and mental health of the woman—a life—over the potential for life present in a zygote, embryo, or fetus. Therefore, restrictions that prevent a woman from obtaining an abortion where compelled by Jewish law, which mandates that the woman act to protect her physical or mental health, impose a substantial burden on that person’s religious exercise.
Under Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), “a governmental entity may not substantially burden a personʹs exercise of religion,” defined to include “any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief.” This means that arguments about whether plaintiffs are strictly observant are irrelevant; the law protects sincerely held religious views regardless of whether that view is idiosyncratic or unorthodox. However, even a law that imposes a substantial burden on the exercise of religion can be enforced if it is “the least restrictive means of furthering [a] compelling governmental interest” (the strict scrutiny test).
The state argued that abortion does not carry “religious significance” and, even if it did, the abortion ban satisfies strict scrutiny because it is “sufficiently narrowly tailored” to “further the State’s interest” in “protecting human lives in the womb.” Throughout Indiana’s brief, the state attempts to use science to back up fetal personhood, extending developmental physiology to make unfounded claims that protected life unquestionably begins at conception:
In lower courts, the State’s compelling interest is not up for debate. In Cheaney v. State, the Indiana Supreme Court held that the State’s interest in protecting unborn children is “valid and compelling” from “the moment of conception.” …A basic understanding of biology supports these holdings. “That human fetuses are human beings is a scientific fact, not a theological claim.” Regardless whether an individual person believes this, “the scientific consensus” is that “[d]evelopment begins at fertilization,” after which the newly created “unicellular zygote divides many times and becomes progressively transformed into a multicellular human being through cell division, migration, growth, and differentiation.” …. Science thus tells us that “[t]he act of performing an induced abortion during any stage of pregnancy, from fertilization up to birth, ends the life of an innocent human being.” The State’s interest in protecting unborn fetal life at any stage from intentional destruction accordingly is nothing less than “compelling.”
A panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals—made up of a Republican appointee and two Democratic appointees—unanimously ruled against the state, upholding a lower court’s injunction against the abortion ban as it applies to the plaintiffs. In the process, the court laid out a path for religious freedom challenges to abortion bans in other states and at the federal level.
The trial court found that absent a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs would be irreparably harmed by the loss of their religious freedoms guaranteed by RFRA. A loss of First Amendment freedoms, which include the right to free exercise of religion, “for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.”... Without a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs will suffer the loss of their right to exercise their sincere religious beliefs by obtaining an abortion when directed by their religion and prohibited by the Abortion Law. They also have shown their sexual and reproductive lives will continue to be restricted absent the injunction and as a result of the Abortion Law.

2024.05.15 12:05 ThrowRA6597 I (18F) found out my sister (34F) is actually my biological mother, and my parents are my grandparents. How do I figure out what I'm supposed to do next?

Recently I got surgery on my knee from a football injury. They took my blood before it, and because I do biology at school, I looked at the results when I was bored afterwards. One of the things it said was that my blood type is AB positive, which I thought was quite cool, since it isn’t very common. I already knew my father’s blood type is A negative because he donates blood, and I had gone with him a couple of times. My mother had come to visit me, and I had asked her if her blood type was AB positive or B positive. I wanted to know because I find genetics really interesting, and I’d always liked doing punnett squares and knowing how things work. She asked me what I was talking about, and I asked her which one of those her blood type is. She said it was O positive, and asked me why I wanted to know. I said that was impossible, and she must be confused. She said I was the one on pain medication, so I was confused. And that it was just blood, I’m healthy and fine, so that’s all that matters.
I thought I must be confused, so I looked it up online, and like I thought, it was literally impossible that I could have that blood type. My mother had to have either AB positive or B positive blood, because otherwise I would have A type blood or O type blood. I figured that maybe she had just forgotten, since both my test and my father’s ones had to be right. But it just seemed a bit weird, so when I got home I looked at one of the papers my mother had kept in the drawer from when she had some medical tests done. And it said that she had O positive blood. I was just confused. I knew there had to be a mistake, somehow. Maybe the hospital had done my blood wrong, or they had written my mother’s blood down wrong. I didn’t even consider my parents weren’t my parents, it just didn’t seem possible. There were photos of me as a newborn, my mother holding me, I look like all of my siblings.
I could have just let it go, but it just didn’t seem right. While my mother was at work, I went through more of the papers. Every single time, it was O positive. I just thought rationally, and decided that they must have taken my blood wrong. I had gotten a couple of blood tests in the past as a child, and I managed to find them at the bottom of the drawer. They all said AB positive. There had to be some kind of explanation, so when my mother came home, I went and talked to her and I told her that with our blood types, I couldn’t be their child. And I wanted to know why, and if she knew why, and if I got mixed up in the hospital or had a blood transfusion or something. She said to wait until my father came home. I was just so confused, I didn’t get how this was possible.
Then when my father got home, they ended up telling me what had happened. My sister, or my actual mother, became pregnant at fifteen. My parents wouldn’t tell me anything about my father, I don’t know much they do know, but they said that instead of having my sister be ashamed and tied down with a child because she was sixteen when she gave birth, as soon as I was born, I became their child. My parents lied to everyone and said it was a cryptic pregnancy. Because my sister didn’t show much, and they didn’t tell anyone, no one knew. They adopted me when I was very young. The rest of my parents’ children were all quite young when I was born, the eldest was eleven. She knew, but the rest of them didn’t and thought I was my mother’s baby, because that was what my parents told me. Everyone thought I was, because I look a lot like the rest of my family. I always thought I looked a little bit different, but I figured it was genetics, I’m never going to look the same as everyone else. My parents said they didn’t want me to know about it, I didn’t need to know, but there was no way they could explain this and I was old enough to understand it now.
Now it feels like everything I thought my life was isn’t real at all. I thought I had six siblings. Four sisters, and two brothers. I thought I was the youngest, I only very recently turned eighteen. My sister, or my mother, lives in a city about three hours away. I don’t know a lot about her because she moved away from home when I was three. I would see her occasionally, and sometimes at holidays, but not often. Maybe about four or five times a year. She doesn’t seem like she is my mother, I always thought she didn't really care much about me. While quite a few of my siblings would fuss over me and play with me when I was little and go to my important games, she mostly ignored me. I only have a couple of significant memories with her and she definitely wouldn't be proud of me or anything, there's nothing special about me.
I used to ask my mother about her but she never told me much about her. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do next. I have a good life, I know I do and I'm lucky. But now I don’t even know who my father is, it’s like part of me is missing. I don’t know why I look like I do, literally all I know is what his blood type is. I'm really confused. Now I know, I don't know if I'm supposed to talk to her about any of this, or if she just wants to leave her alone, which I would understand. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do now, I think my parents are a bit disappointed I know now, and in some ways I am too because now I know everything I thought was real isn't. I want to know about my father, I want to know about part of who I really am. But my parents won’t tell me, and I don’t know if she will either. She probably just wants me out of her life, and probably never wanted me and wishes I wasn’t there at all. I don’t want to disrupt her life either. When I asked my mother, she said I should just leave it, and she won't want to talk to me, but I don't think my mother has talked to her for a while either. I don't know if I'm supposed to do anything, or just leave it, but I feel like it's quite an important part of my life and although I love my parents, or my grandparents, I still want to know about my biological mother as well.
English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry if any of this is incorrect. I did read over it, but if something doesn't make sense I can clarify it :)

2024.05.15 11:51 camiam118 My identical twin and I aren’t speaking for the first time in our lives

My (30m) twin is in a shitty, dangerous situation in his relationship and wants me and our family to just overlook the severity of it in hopes that everything will just be peachy.
He started talking to a girl over Instagram while living with my parents getting his life back together after a very messed up situation he put himself in with our older brother where he was in danger. My older brother is crazy, controlling, and can physically harm family but needed help and my twin thinks he’s here to help everyone.
This girl (Sally) was verbally, mentally, emotionally abusive before they had even met in person. My mom got to hear them fighting constantly but he’d defend her when anyone would ask or show concern. He shared many very worrying details with me like her telling him he’s basically a loser, and many things she didn’t like about him. He’s already so into her at the time and believes it’s a challenge to overcome that he wants to prove himself. He’s constantly sending these letters and flowers confessing his love.
They finally met where she lives multiple states away. She’s told him multiple times since then in different ways if he didn’t do these trips he couldn’t afford, that she would stop talking to him and that happened any time she’d get mad at him.
She also got him to work for their family business for almost nothing, building their website, selling, communicating with customers online. She didn’t want to keep doing it because she has her own business in shitty art you’ve seen on Instagram a thousand times. But people buy it so good for her, I guess.
When her parents and her happened to be going by where my parents live on a business trip, she asked him to get my parents to lie to hers about their relationship and pretend they were just business partners. My parents were obviously appalled and didn’t agree. They never met.
He eventually moved to her state after maybe 6 months of randomly meeting/dates and her parents being told a lie about the development of their relationship. She refused to stay at his apartment until he had furnished it. This whole time we’re warning him that these are serious red flags and sometimes he would tell her he’s not ok with them. She’d say she has trust issues and when he moved that would go away or some other insecurity or she’ll stop something, but she always got what she wanted.
His lease runs out and they end up getting a pretty expensive place together, plus he’s put a bunch of furniture and a car on credit that he can’t afford because she also tells him if they don’t on enough dates she’ll leave him. She had him get the car because she didn’t drive. You name it. So he’s drowning in debt constantly now for the first time in his life.
Then we start hearing really weird shit. He has to get a new work laptop because he spilled water on it. When my brother finally gets to see me, she tells him she doesn’t trust me and doesn’t leave him alone starting drama the entire trip. They break up and I’m getting verbally abusive messages about how I’m a loser and my relationship will never be as good as theirs. Then veiled threats through apology texts when they get back together. Turns out she poured water on his laptop. She’s been verbally abusing him, calling him a “beta cock loser”…she screamed that he was running her over when she wouldn’t let him drive away, threatened to tell police he was abusing her, he later told me they’ve become physically abusive towards each other.
One day he calls me and tells me to keep a recorded phone call he had with her. She was threatening him, telling him he needed to leave the apartment or something bad was going to happen to him. She threatened other things including using her brother’s connection with the cartel to hurt me and my girlfriend’s family in Mexico where we’re living.
This was the final straw for me and my parents. She’s been blocked everywhere and will never be near us again.
My brother, however, even forgave her for this and kept trying to work on the relationship. Later he did temporarily leave and stayed at my parents house but after she kept calling using different numbers and even emailing him telling him she’d bought self help books, he fell for it and went back.
I quit working with my brother and resigned from our company we started, and have since barely spoken to him except when he texts me he loves me. He thinks we can have a normal relationship and even forgive her too. He thinks everyone should believe her that she’s changing. They went to one therapy session. She barely started one of the audio books (I saw the progress on audible).
I feel like he has no self respect or respect for his family or my girlfriend’s, who loves him by the way. I think he’ll end up in jail, hurt, or continuing with her feeling like a loser and being abused. We’ve tried to help and been there for him countless times but he never chooses us. That’s actually something he’s been doing his whole life.
TLDR: My twin brother is being abused and is ruining his life but thinks he’s in love.

2024.05.15 10:58 naveed2127 I passed yesterday AT/AT/T in 3 weeks effective preparation.

Context: I work at a Fastly scaling startup in Bangladesh & at the same time involved building another. So, the only time I studied was in between meetings & tasks at office, & at home after office (mind you my father-in-law is bed ridden so significant portion of the time I spent studying at home was from the hospital)
What materials I used:
  1. TIA’s course for the mandatory 35-hour requirement.
  2. AR’s book.
  3. DM’s video (200 Agile questions,150 Waterfall questions, PMBOK 7 1-hour video)
  4. Agile Guide
  5. SH Practice Questions & Mock exams
  6. Cheat sheets from a fellow reddit user (can’t tag him idk why).
My approach (after completing the 35-hour requirement):
  1. Spent one full week to condense AR’s full book into an abridged summarized note.
  2. Parallelly, kept watching DM’s videos & rereading PM mindset notes (made from AR’s video & reddit discussions)
  3. After finishing AR’s book, did 587/717 questions from SH.
  4. Parallelly, kept watching DM’s videos & rereading PM mindset notes (made from AR’s video & reddit discussions)
  5. Read the Agile guide to bottom.
  6. Completed 1 mock up.
  7. Reread my AR notes, the PM mindset notes once before the exam.
How did the exam go?
  1. Agile was 40% of the questions.
  2. Risk & Procurement related questions were at a minimum.
  3. Questions testing your understanding of CPI,SPI,EAC,TCPI were around 10%
  4. Expert questions were there but not as wordy as SH.
SH Performance overview:
  1. Final stats, 73% on Mock exam & 71% average in Mini Exams.
  2. 66% in category wise questions.
  3. Once, I started using the PM mindset instantly scores went up by 10%.
I’ll soon share two things:
  1. My condensed notes of AR’s book.
  2. My notes of PM mindset.

2024.05.15 10:47 moonshadowfax How can I help my anxious son?

I (F44) have the sweetest little man (11) who is having a lot of trouble with anxiety. He’s always been sensitive, incredibly caring, empathetic, and very smart. He makes friends easily and does well in school. His teachers have never had any issues with him and have been surprised whenever I’ve asked if he is ok at school.
When I pick him up he breaks down in tears, almost every day. He gets so upset I usually have to pull over to hug him while he bawls. It’s usually because something unexpected happened, like having a substitute teacher, he didn’t score over 27/30 in a maths quiz, something else unusual happened. Sometimes he can’t give a reason. There’s no issues with bullying, he is very popular.
I know I’m his safe space and I have no issue at all with supporting him at these times. It concerns me though that he’s holding himself together all day, and that he often says he’s anxious and depressed.
The latest development is heightened claustrophobia. He’s always had it but it seems to be getting worse. Today he couldn’t go in the education van that visits the school, which really upset him. We’ve got flights booked for the end of the year and he’s starting to worry about that.
He’s had quite a few therapy answers OT sessions and he hates them. He says they don’t help, and being told to have a different mind set or use tools to manage anxiety is not useful.
Do I just keep sending him, hoping that it will help long term? Should I seek testing? His step mum and my SO think he has ADHD, but his teachers don’t see any indication and I only see some elements. He can’t sit still, has meltdowns, talks very quickly etc. Online testing says ‘maybe’. The therapist he was seeing thinks maybe ASD, maybe not. Testing is over $2k for each area, so if it’s not ADHD then it will be another $2k to test for ASD etc. I’m willing to pay this, but I’d appreciate any input / other peoples experiences.
His diet is ok, he doesn’t eat meat except seafood so getting protein in is a challenge. His activity level is ok, could be better. He has 1-2 hours of screens a day, for 5 days of the week. I’m working hard to improve all these aspects, but I need to do better.

2024.05.15 10:25 ellean4 AVR for pre-amp only?

I have a 2.1 integrated amp I love (Cambridge Audio Evo 150). I have it hooked up to my TV via HDMI eARC and it powers a pair of Focal Diablo Utopias and a Rhythmik sub. I don’t really see the need to add any more speakers and there isn’t much space anyhow.
What I do need though is HDMI ports, which I am official running out of. Between Apple TV, my cable provider’s box and a couple of game consoles - switch and PS5 - I am 2 short and find myself having to swap cables around occasionally which is annoying, to say the least. Trawling through old posts on the topic it seems like HMDI switchers are not recommended and i should get a receiver instead.
Given that I will only be using the receiver for preamp the left and right channel, and maybe booking up the subwoofer, is there any point to buying anything than a cheap entry level Denon or Yamaha? I likely will not be using room correction or any of the other funky features as I’m really quite satisfied with the sound quality I have currently. Would something like the Denon x1600H be sufficient for my needs?

2024.05.15 10:20 JustTea5231 How would you make sense of this history of a partner?

I started seeing a teacher when I moved to a new city for a new job (met on Hinge). I was working long hours at the hospital during COVID but got to see her a few times a week. She was a single mother with a 6 month old which I did not mind but as I got to know her I discovered the following things. After 11 months of knowing her she gave me an ultimatum to get a ring and be engaged within the next 3-4 months. Looking back, I ignored and dismissed a lot of things. Here are the things I learned and want to know what you would think if the person you are dating had this history and they were asking for a lifetime commitment:
• She had cheated on her ex-husband with a man at a party. When I asked her what the issues were in the marriage, she said he was a nice man but just neglectful of her in the marriage.
• She spent the next 5 years with the man she cheated with on her ex-husband. She left that man because “he wasn’t going to move on up in the world and make something of himself.” In other words, he wasn’t going to make more money or climb the social status ladder per her. I asked if he was good to her. She said - yes! He was an amazing partner otherwise.
• Then she found a man who is wealthy and educated and a lecturer, who has a good family and generational wealth including properties. He told her that he was polyamorous. She chased him and tried to convince him the entirety of their relationship to convert to monogamy for her. I spoke with him directly because he is the father of her child. He said that she moved fast and was talking about marriage within 3 months of knowing him. He was unwilling to really change his lifestyle and even took her to orgies and shared books on poly lifestyle with her to see if she would be okay with being his main person while he does poly. After 11 months or more of dating and eventually living together, she finds out she is pregnant with his child. She tells everyone that she missed the pill for a day or two and got pregnant. (When she told me this I was very surprised because my understanding is that it’s quite rare to get pregnant with just missing one day). She found out she was pregnant and decides to keep the baby. All the while trying to convince the baby’s father to marry her. He eventually told her that he didn’t want the child or a family. While she is figuring this out with him, she began sleeping with a dentist during pregnancy. I asked her about this choice and why not stay with this dentist. She said that he was burning out and was looking to leave dentistry. Once she knew that the baby’s biological dad would not marry her at any cost, she calls up the ex-boyfriend and starts sleeping with him once the baby is born.
• I discovered recently that during our relationship, she has been scanning for other men and keeping her options open. I am so disappointed and upset with myself for ignoring the red flags.
Tell me if you knew this history about a person, what conclusions you would draw and if you would get into a long-term relationship with them? Thanks for the input.

2024.05.15 10:18 coboba 10th Edition Astra Militarum Crusade Rules V1.0 (Ported from 9th Edition)

I am planning a crusade in 10th Edition, and since everyone participating will have a codex except one AM player I figured I would put in the effort to port over the 9th edition Crusade rules as best as I could so they could have SOMETHING to play with.
While the majority of it was one-to-one, there were certain areas that did not port over well that had to be modified to 10th. Since I am personally not an AM player, I would really appreciate if the subreddit would look over the parts that were not one-to-one ports.
Specifically the following:
Stealthy (Battle Trait)
Original:
-Models in this unit ignore the penalties to movement distances incurred for moving over Difficult Ground.
-Each time a ranged attack is made against this unit, this unit receives the benefits of Light Cover against that attack (see the Warhammer 40,000 Core Book). If this unit makes a Normal Move, Advances or Falls Back during your Movement phase, it loses this ability until the start of your next Movement phase.
New:
-Models in this unit gain the [Scouts 6] ability.
-This unit gains the [Stealth] ability. If this unit makes a Normal Move, Advances or Falls Back during your Movement phase, it loses this ability until the start of your next Movement phase.
Reasoning: Giving it scouts 6 would emulate the feeling of your units sneaking into position at round start without being too strong like giving deep strike would be. Giving stealth instead as general approximation for the second bullet point.
Decree of Dispensation (Campaign Medal)
OFFICER unit only. Once per battle, if this unit is on the battlefield when you use an Astra Militarum Wargear Stratagem, reduce the CP cost of that Stratagem by 1 CP. Note that the CP cost is only reduced for that use, any future usages of it cost the normal amount of CPs.
Reasoning: No changes, but currently only applies to the "Armoured Might" stratagem in the 10th AM Index. And when there are more wargear stratagems the new codex will be out. Maybe expand this to be both "Armoured Might" and "Inspired Command?"
Recon Star (Campaign Medal)
Original: If the mission uses the Strategic Reserves rules, this unit can be placed into Strategic Reserves without having to spend any additional CPs, regardless of how many units are already in Strategic Reserves. If this Campaign Medal is awarded to a CORE unit it costs 2 Commendation points; otherwise, it costs 4 Commendation points. This Campaign Medal cannot be awarded to BATTLE TANK or SUPER-HEAVY units.
New: This unit gains the DEEP STRIKE keyword. If this Campaign Medal is awarded to a BATTLELINE unit it costs 2 Commendation points; otherwise, it costs 4 Commendation points. This Campaign Medal cannot be awarded to BATTLE TANK or SUPER-HEAVY units.
Reasoning: It no longer costs any CP to place units in Strategic Reserves in 10th edition. Giving the unit deep strike follows the flavor text of having the unit strike behind enemy lines.
Bastion Honour (Campaign Medal)
Original: INFANTRY or CAVALRY unit only. This unit can perform Heroic Interventions as if it were a CHARACTER unit.
New: INFANTRY or CAVALRY unit only. You can use the “Heroic Intervention” Strategem on this unit for 0 CP.
Reasoning: Heroic Intervention was a step in the charge phase that only characters could do in 9th edition. By allowing the unit to use Heroic Intervention for 0CP, it emulates the unit being able to Heroic Intervention Significantly more often. Is making it free all the time too powerful? Maybe change it to once per battle can use it for free? I have personally not seen the Heroic Intervention Stratagem used once in 10th, but i am relatively new to Warhammer in general.
Laurels of Purity (Campaign Medal)
Original: OFFICER or ASTRA MILITARUM PREACHER unit only. In your opponent's Psychic phase, this unit can attempt to deny one psychic power as if it were a PSYKER.
New: OFFICER or ASTRA MILITARUM PREACHER unit only. This Unit’s weapons have ANTI-PSYKER 3+.
Reasoning: RIP Psychic Phase. Since the Psychic phase was deleted, I was split between this being either Anti-Psyker 3+ or Feel No Pain 3+ against psychic attacks. This is a big change from the original that im not sure on. It depends on how impactful allowing a unit to deny a Psyker was in 9th. Can anyone talk about their experience with this in 9th edition? How powerful would it have been to allow your officer to deny?
Medallion Resolute (Campaign Medal)
Original:
-This unit gains the Objective Secured ability (see the Warhammer 40,000 Core Book). -Add 1 to Combat Attrition tests taken for this unit.
New:
-If you control an objective marker at the end of your Command phase and this unit is within range of that objective marker, that objective marker remains under your control even if you have no models within range of it, until your opponent controls it at the start or end of any turn. -Add 1 to Battle Shock tests taken for this unit.
Reasoning: Changing Objective Secured is significantly different than Sticky Objectives, but its the closest i could approximate. I left the cost at 5, but it may be more sense to reduce the cost down as Sticky Objectives is not as strong as Objective Secured was. I did not play 9th edition, can someone talk about how strong it was to give a unit Objective Secured in 9th compared to giving a unit sticky objectives now in 10th?
Pietrov's Mk 45 (Crusade Relic)
Original:
Weapon Range A BS S AP D
Pietrov's Mk 45 12” 2 3+ 4 -2 2
Ability: Each time you select a target for this weapon, you can ignore the Look Out, Sir rule. Each time an attack is made with this weapon, if a hit is scored, until the start of your next Shooting phase the target is cowed. While a unit is cowed, subtract 2 from the Leadership characteristic of models in that unit.
New:
Weapon Range A BS S AP D
Pietrov's Mk 45 [PRECISION] 12” 2 3+ 4 -2 2
Ability: Each time an attack is made with this weapon, if a hit is scored, until the start of your next Shooting phase the target is cowed. While a unit is cowed, subtract 2 from the Leadership characteristic of models in that unit.
Reasoning: The "Look Out, Sir" rule no longer exists in 10th. Giving the weapon [Precision] emulates the effect of shooting past units that could protect a character.

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me with balancing this port.

2024.05.15 10:07 Sikhdiviner How you start is not always How you finish

How you start is not always How you finish
My first intro to Orisa was a way of Self Discovery, i was already working on my spirituality, training with Mentors in the Psychic community and reading clients when my regular reader Kept telling me that there was an african woman behind me saying the word “O-ri-sha”. Neither of us knew What that word meant but he insisted that I Found out. This Psychic was an old white man. A Message is a message despite the appearance of the Messenger
I eventually Traveled to New Orleans many times, had various experiences, even moved and became a reader there without ever knowing that New Orleans was where my paternal great grandparents immigrated to the USA from Jamaica through New Orleans, which I discovered many years later.
After getting into contact with a well nown Santero in Miami, I flew over to get Divination done, receive my elekes, guerreros, olokun, palo muerto etc. even got scratched in Preparation for doing ocha.
I eventually left the ile and my ocha basket, my elekes and orisas there After many things occurring, things spoken during misas that made me go hmmm and just general blockages. Several times my GPS would stop working and I would find myself lost for hours trying to find my padrino’s home. With him being a santero of elegua, I thought that was significant.
Eventually I took a break, went to a Babalawo and received my hand of ifa, new warriors etc. Discovered that the previous house was planning to initiate me to the wrong orisa, it was supposed to be his orisa and felt a type of ways. The babalawo that cast my odu isefa had the same ifa odu as me and also was a little shocked and my oluwo tried to illuminate my naive mind.
I took a long break from the religion, I had noticed that I garnered way more success without it, I had made the most money in my career, when I just left santeria alone. I tried one last time to give cuban ifa a try with another babalawo who remade all my shrines, taught me, mentored me, gave me me osain and allowed me to help him with clients and basic rituals and sacrifices. Learned a lot but same as before, nothing miraculous really changed. I switched to an Isese babalawo (popoola lineage) for ebbos just for change of perspective. I effectively left santeria, ifa and orisa for good, I would just get an ifa divination once in a while.
I went back to vodou because that was my first ATR experience and the ancestral pull as well as it actually worked for me. But during kanzo in Haiti, I started to dream a lot about Africa, somewhere I had never been or wanted to go, and I blew it off.
Months later, I had this strange dream involving sango, talking about ifa, I thought it was ludicrous so I contacted my babalawo for divination, and the odu cast spoke about both sango and going into ifa. Weeks later, I got another divination from someone from an afa lineage without telling him anything and he had a similar divination result. So I took it seriously after talking to 3 different babalawos from three different lineages and countries.
I found myself in africa for the first time, I was afraid, I did afa initiation as well as other ceremonies, I was still apprehensive though. After coming back to usa, I got an outside divination and it came out in ibi, someone was trying to take me out.
I got very ill, doctors ran tests for 5 weeks even wearing a heart monitor and they could not figure out why my heart was failing. Yup, I was dying at 33 years old, 5 years later my brother died at 33. You probably guessed it, it was an inside the family thing. Anyways, I was terminated from my employer and I threatened to sue them very publicly because I had nothing to lose. They settled, I had a large sum of money but I was still dying so I had two choices have fun or do orisa initiation and hope for a miracle.
I was invited to the ebohon center in Benin city, got my nigerian visa but I was too sick to travel back to africa, didn’t have medical authorization, so I went to Brazil instead, to initiate under one of Araba agboola’s godchildren there, I stayed for 5 weeks. I did a lot of ceremonies. I went into trance with orisa for the first time, then again and again. It was around the third time that I felt a significant change in my heart beat and the palpitations had stopped. Within 3 months, I never had another problem again.
I went back to Brazil and found out I was touched by the candomble bug via my previous godfather, meaning he mixed some things Brazilian and Isese. one tradition does not wipe out the other, no baptism can undo a previous ceremony also finding out that sango never left me alone despite him not being the orisha of my ori. I went to a festa of xango at the famous terreiro do cobre, one girl was mounted with xango, hugged me and wouldn’t let go until I slipped into trance. I woke up in the back room and the iyalorisa of the lineage said I had to do some ceremonies in candomble. I went to various terreiros to get differing opinions and they all said similar things. So that’s how I ended up in candomble when I didn’t want to be.
Before the pandemic, I went back to nigeria and Benin to learn, study, do more ceremonies over a planned trip of 6 weeks which turned into 6 months. Surprisingly enough I ended up in the ile of another popoola lineage babalawo and iyanifa without realizing it.
just clarify my relationship with the popoola family is purely transactional, I bought their entire library of books, lectures, songs, etc, did divination with them for many years and used their olorisas they usually employ but they don’t consider me to be affiliated and so neither do I. I have never met chief popoola in person
Ejiogbe is the odu of many ebbos, sacrifices, orikis, loss, abundance, gossip, jealousy, betrayal, triumph over adversity, healing, longevity, being well known but alone, many taboos, honesty but many lie on you, charity without gratitude or acknowledgment.

2024.05.15 09:57 gratatatuity Trouble Testing SD Card Speed

I got a PNY 256GB PRO Elite microSDXC Memory Card (iU3, V30, A2, UHS-I) that says read speed 100MB/s (write speed 90MB/s), and I want to test the speed of the card.
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), and I heard I could use F3X Swift, but when I open F3X, both my MacintoshHD as well as the SD Card (Physical SD Card switch is unlocked, inserted through the card reader) is grayed out. I have also tried erasing the SD Card through Disk utility, but I get a "couldn't modify partition map (-69874)" failure.
I've tried Black Magic Speed Test, but I can't target the SD Card because it says "it is read only". Similar issue with AJA System Test. So the card seems to be working fine in my dash cam, but I have not been able to format the disk on my MacBook. Any ideas on how I can test the speed of my SD Card?

2024.05.15 08:57 Kawaii_Kiki14 Holter test WHYYY

I went to get my holter today for the 72 hour test but! The people at LifeLabs seemed super confused and every tried to straight up tell me they don’t do the test after I booked the appointment with them hours earlier. It took 3 nurses and a supervisor to figure out what seemed like common sense to me but the worst part is this: nurse pulled out a bucket of stuff and I saw some random differently branded batteries maybe one or two at the bottom (looked old) and she put one in the holter, well guess I was right to ask if it would die seeing as it’s been less then 10 hours and yet the monitor is going to die.. yay! At this point I don’t even trust that place to be honest.. what if they mess up my results or something because they had NO CLUE what they were doing Hell! It took them 20 minutes to find the damn thing!
What do yall think?

Sony Walkman WM-AF29 No audio
I have an old Walkman that will rewind and fast forward tapes but there is absolutely 0 audio. If I switch it to Radio mode it does work though. Can’t tell what’s up with that. Attatched are some pictures of the board. All tapes I used to test work well.

2024.05.15 08:44 Oh-My-God-Do-I-Try MacBook is connected to external display but won’t use the audio device

I’m new to Mac and having trouble finding troubleshooting tools. If I were on windows I’d be going to device manager and restarting my audio drivers but I can’t seem to find the equivalent of that for Mac yet.
Anyway, I have a MacBook Pro running Sonoma, and an Asus monitor connected to it through a docking station. At first everything was fine and it played my audio through the monitor speakers without issue. This morning, the audio (Spotify) started skipping and speeding like a CD player left in the hot sun for too long, and then just stopped working altogether. The Mac registers the monitor as an audio device, but the volume bar is disabled and nothing plays through the speakers. The Mac’s native speakers work fine. I’ve both restarted and shutdown-started, and yes the monitor is selected as the output device. And of course google is just full of articles like “try these 10 things if your Mac audio doesn’t work! [download this app or download this app or download this app]”
Anyone have advice on what to do next?

2024.05.15 07:59 Bright-Lily Should I (F39) break up with LDR bf (M40)? Seems he’s much less involved and there are no real plans. Is the relationship worth saving?

As the title said. We’re both divorced, we met last year through mutual interests and have been online dating ever since. Initially he seemed to be super involved. We used to write multiple times a day, leave each other many voice messages, videocall often, send each other funny videos and memes, etc. We have so many things in common it’s a bit unsettling sometimes. I love him, and consider him a soulmate. He often used to tell me that he loves me, that he finds me beautiful and sweet, and would like to live with me.
First issue: we live in far continents, and both share houses with flatmates due to economic issues after Covid. We never met, I’m now starting to think it might not happen for a long time due to difficulties with work and money, especially on his part. I could actually visit him for Christmas if I wanted to, but I’m a bit reluctant because he has a young daughter from his previous marriage, which is of course his priority and I wouldn’t want to intrude without him explicitly invite me first, and also because of the second issue.
Second issue: he’s recently been taking an intensive online college course. I supported his decision and really admire him for this, but now I barely hear from him. We see each other online maybe twice a week, for like 1/2 hours. When we see each other, he seems totally normal and happy to see me, and we have a connection. But he barely replies to my messages (which are short and sporadic, I write him literally twice a day), because he says he has to work/study. We went from chatting a lot and exchanging frequent voice messages, to him not reaching out at all. Not even writing me “good morning/good night” or leaving me a 2 seconds vocal sometimes. He’s gonna take the final test for his course soon, and recently he’s refused a 10 minutes videocall (it couldn’t have been longer that that because I had to go to work, he knew it) saying he had no time for that. I realize he’s very busy, plus the time difference has never worked in our favor, and sometimes our flatmates get in the way, but realistically how busy can you be to not having time for any of these things?
I gently brought this up with him a few times, asked him if I bothered him or he was tired of us, and if he thinks there’s no issue with how much we communicate. He says that “we talk everyday” and he thinks we “interact enough”, which was shocking because I honestly think he wouldn’t even send me a 2 seconds voice message once a day if a couple months ago I hadn’t told him that I felt a bit hurt when I would wake up without a single “hello” from him. So I stopped asking anything or complaining, and started writing less and less myself. It just seems like begging for attention, I don’t wanna act clingy or irrational.
I feel sad and lonely. I suffer from depression and chronic health issues, but when I mentioned that I felt my life was like suspended, almost slipping away, he just replied that he was sorry and I should talk to a psychologist (which I already do anyway). The more I think about it, the more discouraged I feel. I wouldn’t be so generic and cold even with an acquaintance, let alone someone I claim to love. And this coming from him, that 1 year ago used to tell me to just write him if I ever felt sad. It’s just strange!
The question: in your opinion, is what we have worth saving? I don’t have enough online dating experience to understand if this might happen in a healthy online relationship. Why does he seem genuinely happy to see me twice a week in videocall, but basically never reaches out during the day? Should I wait to see if after the test he starts communicating with me more? Honestly at this point I’m not sure it’s worth me asking if we should ever meet, and pay a bunch of money to book a plane ticket. Could see each other in person move the relationship forward?
I don’t know what to do, I feel lost. Sorry if this is too long and I seem stupid. Thanks for any advice you might have!
