2024.05.15 02:17 Basic-Ad9463 brooke slander

I sincerely don’t understand where the brooke hate stems from, particularly in the main sub and want to know if anyone feels the same? I feel like a lot of people make very arbitrary jabs at her character that hold no substance. a lot of critiques are super nit-picky and cruel. and then when u say anything, people claim you have some hyper fixated para social view of her, when in reality you just recognize a very biased rhetoric. everyone should be held accountable for things, but come on. I wonder if paige becomes more part of the podcast, how long it’ll take for these same people to say the same things about her.

2024.05.15 01:12 MLGZedEradicator Ippo's love taps against Woli aren't literal love taps.

I still see people claiming that Ippo, who might as well have the strongest featherweight punches in the world with only Sendo competing for that title , was throwing "love taps" against Woli. I think you guys are taking this way too literally, it's clearly a figure of speech. It's a love tap compared to what Ippo normally dishes out. For example, A love tap from a bum like myself is <<<< love tap from Ippo in power. Ippo is established as having above average bone density in his fists, and the shape of his fists were highlighted to do big damage as well, and it's even likely that on fight night he's slightly above the featherweight limit ( though not as much as Sendo typically is for instance), and on top, of that, this is the same guy who has techniques like the 3 inch punch, he has Takamaru's and Kamogawa's blood in case yall forgot, he's got technique backing that naturally high firepower. So sure, Ippo wasn't putting much body weight into his jabs or rotating his body as much as he normally would because that would slow him down too much, Woli was too fast so Ippo needed to priortize effective speed , and to do so he had to throw an arm jab while throwing his punch as straight as possible so that it cross the largest distance possible in a short amount of time.
He's no Ricardo Martinez of course, but as we saw even Martinez's perfectly straight jabs and minimal bodyweight behind them could do big damage to Woli. Ippo> Martinez in raw power and he is using a body blow whereas Martinez was using headshots on Woli, and a body blow always hits quicker than a blow to a head all else equal ( your opponent's body is closer to your fists than their head is at close range), so that closes the technique and speed gap here. So it doesn't make sense to argue that Ippo's "love taps" hit woli any weaker than Martinez's same "love taps" hit Woli, Ippo's jabs are still fast and hard. on top of that, we saw Ippo add some rotation to his fist every time he hit he landed his blow to Woli's liver, and adding rotational kinetic energy increases the damage at impact.
Woli not feeling damage slowly building up in his gut was directly attributed to his inexperience as a fighter. Being still relatively new to fighting, his adrenaline dosage is at a higher peak during a fight as a result due to the natural flight or fight response, and it's a well known fact that it's possible for adrenaline to render pain completely invisible until much after the onset of damage... Morikawa already introduced the concept of adrenaline in the manga prior to this fight in at least two instances that I can recall. In the first instance, it was Takamaru's eye cut closing against David Eagle due to an adrenaline rush, and in the second instance, when Malcom Gedo was shot by a pistol, he recollected not feeling any pain from the bullet when it happened despite blood pouring of his chest.
Now, as a last ditch effort, you might be tempted to counterargue that Miguel should have accounted for adrenaline, but again, he doesn't have any way of measuring woli's precise adrenaline levels nor does he have x-ray vision to see the build up of internal damage, and it did take MANY body blows for the liver to be sufficiently damaged and stop his legs and for Woli's abdomen to swell with the imprint of Ippo's fist, and Woli otherwise appeared to be fine. So it makes sense Miguel let his guard down when combined with the fact that no matter how strong Ippo is, people have always still underestimated the damage he could do with punches that didn't have any big windup at all, such as Date not thinking that even Ippo could hit him hard during their fight at close range without space to build a bunch of acceleration and rotation in his punch.

2024.05.14 21:33 pronoia123 The Astrology of Kendrick and Drake

[I shared this in girls and gays but wanted to share here as well for those of you not in that sub]
With Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s rap feud raging over the last month, I got curious about what their natal charts say about each of them as rappers, and how the astrological synastry between the two has fueled this chart-topping fight. Luckily we have an accurate birth time for both Drake and Kendrick, so we can see exactly how their charts overlap.
Here’s Drake’s chart:
And here’s Kendrick’s chart:
Inconjunct Suns
Kendrick has a Gemini sun, like many of hip hop’s greatest rappers, including Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Lauryn Hill and Outkast’s Andre 3000. Geminis are well-suited to rap as the wordsmiths of the zodiac, one of the two signs ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. Virgo, the other sign ruled by Mercury, expresses the analytical, practical, pragmatic side of the mind, the so-called “left brain” which sorts the wheat from the chaff (and, fittingly, Virgo season aligns with the harvest season of late summer).
Gemini expresses the more playful, self-expressive, hyper-curious “right brain” side of the mind - the monkey mind that swings from branch to branch, seeing connections as it goes. “Curious to a fault, Geminis have a finger in every pie. Solar Geminis are flexible and changeable people. Usually quite clever and witty, Geminis enjoy intellectual conversations and they are easily bored if they are not getting enough mental stimulation.”
Drake is a Scorpio sun, bringing a very different energy to the table. Scorpios seek power above all, and they live life intensely. If Gemini is the court jester, taking life lightly and poking fun at it all, Scorpio is the dark knight plotting and positioning himself for a coup. As one of the two signs ruled by Mars, the planet of war and competition, Scorpios don’t back down from competition, and as a fixed modality sign, they can struggle to let go–even of what hurts them. Scorpios are drawn to the darker sides of life - they know that secrets hold power, so they tend toward privacy, as shown in Drake’s last rap beef, when Pusha T revealed that he had secretly fathered a son with a porn star.
Gemini and Scorpio have a tricky inter-dynamic, with an aspect between them known as a quincunx, or an inconjunct. Quincunxes occur when planets are 150 degrees apart, and therefore share neither an element (water, fire, earth, or air) nor a modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable). They are at odds in a very fundamental way, and though they can teach each other a lot, in order to get along they will have to make some serious adjustments.
When these signs get together, they just can’t understand each other. They have almost nothing in common, so it’s hard to find common ground. When a quincunx shows up in a synastry or relationship reading, this can make for a tense or difficult relationship.” This natural repelling dynamic is expressed in Kendrick’s diss song Euphoria (“I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk/I hate the way that you dress/I hate the way you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it's gon' be direct”).
Drake’s ascendant is placed at 29 degrees Leo, exactly conjunct the royal fixed star Regulus. Regulus is one of the luckiest stars in the zodiac, and it is often seen in the charts of celebrities. “On the Ascendant, it will give a courageous and frank character. A splendid and illustrious life; glorious, mighty and commanding nature; fame, busy with many activities, bountiful resources, well known or feared in cities and regions.” But with Regulus on the ascendant, expanding the already narcissistic tendencies of Leo, there is a risk for an over-expansion of the ego and a lack of humility. Drake wants to be the best by all accounts - not just the biggest commercial superstar, which he is, but also the most critically acclaimed rapper, like Pulitzer Prize-winning Kendrick.
Mercury and Mars vs. Mercury and Venus
When it comes to analyzing writers of any sort, I like to look at their Mercuries, and here we see a fascinating contrast. Kendrick’s Mercury is located in intuitive, emotional Cancer (just like Lana del Rey, who I analyzed last week), and it is conjoined with Mars, the planet of war, which is what makes him such a formidable opponent in a rap battle. “Mercury conjunct Mars natal gives a quick mind, rapid reflexes, and a sharp tongue. These attributes are ideal for making quick decisions in the heat of the moment while others hesitate. Excellent debating skills allow you to stand up not only for yourself but for the rights of others. Your enthusiastic, direct and courageous way of expressing yourself can win admiration in politics, business, and the military.”
I think Mercury in combination with Mars is the ideal aspect for the competitive sport of rap, and interestingly enough, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., who famously feuded and are considered by many to be the all-time greatest rappers, both had these planets tightly combined (Tupac had Mercury trine Mars with a 1 degree orb, and Biggie had Mercury septile Mars with a 0 degree orb).
Drake, by contrast, has his Mercury conjoined with Mars’ planetary opposite, Venus. Mercury conjoined with creative Venus is a great aspect for a musician, but it lacks the teeth of competitive Mars. “Mercury conjunct Venus natal makes you a lovable, handsome, neat, refined, romantic, and courteous person. You may tend to be passive and submissive, but this is a means by which you achieve peace in your life. You can lovingly communicate things; a melodic, poetic, and relaxing voice often helps this. Mercury rules trade, and Venus rules money, so you could do well in business and enjoy buying and selling.”
Many of Drake’s biggest hits show this melodic Mercury-Venus aspect - like the no-rapping, all-singing “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” “Hotline Bling” and “One Dance,” or the purported feminist anthem “Nice for What.” Many think Drake is best as a pop star rather than a rapper, which Kendrick references in Euphoria (“I like Drake with the melodies, I don't like Drake when he act tough” “Keep makin' me dance, wavin' my hand and it won't be no threat”).
Mercury conjunct Venus should be a very positive aspect for Drake, and in many ways it is – as two of the planets that rule over money (Mercury the marketplace, and Venus the possessions), this aspect is part of why he’s had such incredible financial success. However, a few factors complicate it. For one thing, they are located together in Scorpio, ruled by Mars. His Mercury is expressed in a Venusian way, but it wants to be expressed in a Martian way. I think this is why Drake returns regularly to gangster rap despite his success in pop and R&B. He wants to be a Mercury-Mars rap powerhouse like Kendrick, Biggie, and Tupac, but he’s fundamentally different. From the beginning of his career he’s been taunted as soft, weak, feminine, privileged–all very Venusian adjectives.
Another complicating factor is that Drake’s Venus is doubly challenged - it is both in detriment in Scorpio, as well as retrograde. Venus is in detriment in Scorpio because it rules over Scorpio’s opposite, Taurus, and so the planet is not at ease in suspicious, jealous Scorpio. “Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up their own power to others is strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel them to create crises in order to feel alive and vital.”
Venus retrograde in the natal chart “suggests you have some difficulty in giving and receiving love and affection. You may experience sadness in love or have to endure hardship or delay. Natal Venus in retrograde can also show as excessive use of makeup and jewelry or even disfigurement from cosmetic surgery.” It’s interesting how some of the allegations against Drake in Kendrick’s songs have included a nose job and a Brazilian butt lift. After Drake told Metro Boomin to “shut up and make some drums” in his initial Kendrick diss Push Ups, the producer responded with “BBL Drizzy.”
Drake has never been married or had a public long-term relationship. His highest profile one with Rihanna was on-again, off-again, and at times seemed more like unrequited love than true commitment. When interviewed about the relationship, he said “As life takes shape and teaches you#Personal_life) your own lessons, I end up in this situation where I don't have the fairy tale [of] 'Drake started a family with Rihanna, [it's] so perfect.' It looks so good on paper [and] I wanted it too at one time.” Two years ago Drake had jeweler Alex Moss create a necklace worth $12.5 million dollars built from dozens of engagement rings he had made but never used: ““New piece titled ‘Previous Engagements’ for all the times he thought about it but never did it,” Moss wrote over a video showcasing the stunning necklace, which is made up of “42 engagement rings” totaling “351.38 carats in diamonds.”” It’s quite the testament to a challenged natal Venus.
Lilith Synastry
Here is Drake and Kendrick’s synastry (Drake is on the outer circle):
The most interesting thing I found digging into Drake and Kendrick’s charts was the presence of Lilith in their synastry. Lilith is an asteroid associated with the “angry woman” figure as well as female liberation. In some Jewish folklore Lilith was the first wife of Adam, but she was banished from the Garden of Eden for not obeying him and replaced with Eve.
In the intricacies of a birth chart, Black Moon Lilith symbolizes the raw essence of femininity, the primal urges, and the suppressed parts of our psyche that lie in the shadows. This point, not a planet but a mathematical point, reveals where one might feel estranged, challenged, or empowered to go against the grain of societal norms. It unveils deep-seated desires, innate instincts, and perhaps the areas where one feels the need to challenge established roles or expectations. It's a place of power, mystique, and, occasionally, friction – pinpointing where one's true nature might clash with the conventional, leading to feelings of marginalization or rebellion.”
The allegations Drake and Kendrick threw at each other both had to do with mistreatment of women - Drake said that Kendrick abused his fiancée, and Kendrick said Drake was a pedophile who shouldn’t be trusted around young women.
Both Drake and Kendrick’s Liliths make tight aspects with the other’s chart. “Whenever Lilith is around, you can expect to feel a wild, intense, deep, and sometimes obsessive energy. If you have Lilith aspects in synastry then this energy will show up in your relationship. Whenever your Lilith touches one of your partner’s planets or vice-versa, you can expect to see your deepest fears revealed. You might also see glimpses of things you desire but can’t have. Ultimately, Lilith aspects in synastry give both partners a chance to work on their shadow sides.”
Kendrick’s sun exactly conjoins Drake’s Lilith at 26 degrees Gemini. “Often, the sun person [Kendrick] represents all that the Lilith person [Drake] wants but can never quite “catch.” There is an illusive vibe to this relationship. The Lilith person may feel somewhat less-than or “bad.” Lilith conjunct sun in synastry is a test for the Lilith person because their most taboo qualities such as obsession and anger will be activated, but it’s also a test for the sun person. The lesson is for the sun individual to stand their ground and follow their inner voice. Lilith is neither good nor bad, and the sun person can share in some of the Lilith partner’s activities without merging.”
This resonates with the fact that despite Drake’s huge commercial success, he is deeply jealous of Kendrick’s critical success. In Family Matters Drake took a jab at Kendrick’s acclaim (“Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now”), and the beef between them played out similarly, with many rap fans deciding that Kendrick won before even listening to Drake. I think it’s obvious that Kendrick is a stronger rapper, but it’s also clear that Drake wasn’t given a fair shake.
Drake’s Lilith makes a tight trine to Kendrick’s Mercury. “Both the Lilith person and the Mercury person help each other to bring unhealed deeper wounds and unconscious emotion to the surface and articulate deeper, wild instincts. Mercury person [Kendrick] helps Lilith person [Drake] make sense of their inner restlessness and insecurities, sexual passions and unresolved rage. Mercury person may find Lilith person to be highly emotional but is also intrigued by Lilith person’s edgy and unique perspective.” It’s remarkable that both of their Liliths are interlocked with each other’s inner planets, creating a push-pull, love-hate, shadow-enlightening dynamic between the two.
I think the obsession goes both ways, and that part of the reason Kendrick fought back so viciously was because Drake triggers something in him shown through the Lilith synastry. Drake shows Kendrick what he could be–a charismatic playboy enjoying his fame and money to the fullest. And in engaging with the feud he stooped to a lower level, making unsupported claims about Drake’s supposed secret daughter, and writing a rap song (Meet the Grahams) addressed to Drake’s 5 year old son opening with “Dear Adonis, I’m sorry that man is your father.” All is fair in rap battles–or is it? Questlove called it out, saying on Instagram: “Nobody won the war. This wasn’t about skill. This was a wrestling match level mudslinging and takedown by any means necessary — women & children (& actual facts) be damned.”
Kendrick’s latest diss track Not Like Us has just debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 100, and it’s clear this battle has propelled him to another level of stardom. Drake’s Regulus ascendant arrogance and Scorpionic desire to fight to the death drove him to attack the strongest living rapper, and now he’s dealing with the fallout. Kendrick’s streams of his back catalog are up 50%, while Drake’s are down 5% and his reputation has taken a massive knock. But Kendrick has taken a hit as well. Having rap’s two biggest stars accusing each other of heinous crimes might drive up streams in the short run, but it’s a dangerous game. Astrology helps us understand why these two polar opposites are so intertwined, and why their mutual dislike has spurred on such a captivating firestorm.

2024.05.14 20:21 Ill_Variation_2480 TTPD's new nickname "Female Rage: The Musical" should upset you.

Edit: If you are going to comment on the length of this post, please don't. This is not a simple snark but rather an actual critical think piece about feminism and Taylor Swift.

Introduction

Pertaining to Taylor Swift, "Female Rage" has deviated from its intended meaning after Swift debuted a new performance of The Tortured Poets Department during the Eras Tour. Now, according to Swift's use of the phrase, female rage is interpreted as public backlash against Swift's dating choices rather than as a response to the broader injustices against women and women's rights. This post examines Taylor Swift's flawed feminism, philanthropy, branding, and the controversial trademark petition for the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical". Swift's background as an entertainer, indeterminate politics, and alignment with capitalism over feminism pervades her legacy, again threatening her public tolerance as not just an individual but as a brand.

Once Upon a Female Rage...

If you were cognizant in the early 2010's, you've heard countless jabs at Taylor Swift in the media. Magazines, radio, or online. Music critics did not take her seriously as a songwriter; parents put a woman on an unrealistic pedestal as the ideal role model for their children; she dated too much and used men as lyrical fodder. No matter the story, it inevitably spread, conjoined with everyone's respective opinions, and you'd be left to wonder, "Why does everyone hate this girl so much?"
Taylor's target demographic has always been young or adolescent girls, more so when Swift herself was one. She made music that spoke to the awkward misfit, cultivating a para-social relationship with fans on MySpace, then later twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, where Taylor posted relatable vlogs showcasing the life of a homegrown American girl. Taylor had a delayed public "growing up" and, compared to her female pop contemporaries, Swift never "gratuitously sexualized her image and seems pathologically averse to controversy" (and, apparently, never even had a sip of alcohol until she turned 21). She was more than happy to spin this narrative to allude to an inherent moral superiority above other women in the industry (Better Than Revenge, heard of it?), engaging in the very slut-shaming that she herself endured (the Madonna and Whore archetypes). The victim complex arose with the need to prove Taylor as a different type of pop girl. Based upon her holy and clean image, Swift had been dubbed "a feminist's nightmare", and that "[To Swift] other girls are obstacles; undeserving enemies who steal Taylor’s soulmates with their bewitching good looks and sexual availability." Feminism and Tennessee-Christian country values don't exactly mix, it seems.
Years later, Swift befriended Lena Dunham and thus experienced white feminism osmosis, where Dunham taught Swift that real feminists defend rapists, makes insensitive jokes about rape and abortion, and prioritize all-white casts. Swift then declared herself a feminist in 2014, saying,
"Becoming friends with Lena – without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realize that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so."
I suppose the male-centric songwriting subject that permeates Swift's discography contained covert feminism and that we just didn't see that. Perhaps, the "Bad Blood" song and music video were written only in jest and not about poor Katy Perry, for Swift, as a feminist, would "never make it a girl fight" or tear other women down (though all Katy did was date your terrible ex-boyfriend and allegedly steal three backup dancers from your tour). In 2013, Swift said, in response to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's joke towards her serial dating, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
There was that time in 2015 Taylor said that Nicki Minaj was "invited to any stage [she is] on" (as if Taylor expects to have access to every stage, award, and platform that Nicki might not otherwise have as a black female artist...yikes!) in response to Nicki's criticism of the white + thin VMA nominations. Later, Nicki responded with confusion, as Swift continued, "It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..". Of course, this 'beef' was 'squashed' when Nicki performed with Taylor at the VMAs, with Nicki quite literally only having 38 seconds of stage time without Taylor. Maybe all that parading around with a legion of famous white women - similar to the way Taylor might've done with her numerous 1989-era handbags - was in fact a stance against gender inequality, and that this display of "girl power" should be enough to constitute Swift as a feminist icon.
Even while Swift says that Dunham informed her feminist outlook, she dances around the exact contents of those beliefs: "what she believes, what she says, what she stands for" is not exactly insightful towards what beliefs Swift might have inherited. Taylor never broaches women's rights topics such femicide, FGM, forced pregnancy & marriage, sex trafficking, women in slavery, women's financial and political oppression, women's educational rights, women's health, or women's autonomy, so we can assume she only gives a fuck about "girls supporting girls" (whatever that fucking means).
Despite some questionable (and sometimes vindictive) behavior, Taylor as a young woman did not deserve every media lashing that she received. We cannot deny that most headlines and criticisms perpetuated a misogynistic rhetoric which has plagued Swift for a majority of her career. Acknowledging events such as the development of her ED, her sexual assault trial, "Famous" lyric and MV depiction of Taylor, and the explicit Twitter deepfakes, for example, as both disgusting and unfortunate things that happened to a young woman in Hollywood does not negate the fact that Taylor is mostly a performative feminist.

Get Your Fucking Ass Up and Be a Philanthropist, It Seems Like Nobody Wants to Be a Philanthropist These Days

In 2013, Taylor Swift cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. The donation amount - $4 million - was the largest individual artist gift ever donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is, of course, mentioned on Swift's website. The two-story facility features three classrooms, an instrument room, and an interactive children's exhibit gallery. Swift also performed at "All for the Hall" charity shows and has donated numerous artifacts from her career (such as notable guitars, tour costumes, etc) to the museum.
This was over 11 years ago, and it is still the only notable philanthropic contribution Taylor Swift has made.
For a woman of her net worth and stature, and a woman who recognizes the difficulties for women in film and music, you would think that Taylor Swift might establish a scholarship program for women to study the arts or something. Perhaps Swift might even consider becoming a member of organizations that support female artists, or one that supports LGBTQ+ causes (since she is now proudly an ally), yet she remains superficial with her graces. Broader philanthropy, such as donating relief aid to Palestinian women or women impacted by violence and discrimination will probably never receive any financial support from Miss Swift because then she'd be using her money towards philanthropies involving anyone but white entertainers.
She even says herself in Miss Americana, "My entire moral code as a kid and now is a need to be thought of as 'good'." Well, she's certainly thought of as good, though her actions say otherwise. She's more than happy to do a vaguely altruistic song and dance for a clip-worthy interview quote and mass appeasement, then fuck off to one of her mansions on a 20 minute private jet flight, rather than actually contribute to anything pertaining to the causes she has endorsed. Yet, far too many people continue to give a woman such as her their money, time, and energy, and she hoards these resources to herself.

I Like Some of the Taylor's Songs, But What the Fuck Does She Know About Feminism?

Swift continued with her self-proclaimed feminist campaign, positioning herself as a political activist and LGBTQ+ ally in the Miss Americana documentary. The primary focus of the documentary consists of the sexual assault trial, Andrea Swift's cancer diagnosis, Taylor's ED and body dysmorphia, media scrutiny, and, largely, finally speaking up about her politics publicly, mostly her opposition to the 2018 Tennessee Republican senate candidate, Marsha Blackburn, and Blackburn's beliefs. Swift says, following a scene discussing her experience during the trial,
"I just couldn't really stop thinking about it. And I just thought to myself, next time there is any opportunity to change anything, you had better know what you stand for and what you want to say."
We must ask ourselves, though: when has Swift ever spoken up to change anything? Okay, pulling her entire catalogue from Spotify because they didn't pay their artists enough and similarly pulling her catalogue from Apple Music are changes that she leveraged due to her revenue potential and power, but they are not pertinent to the average woman's rights. Moreover, these are issues that directly impacted Taylor's income, which was enough reason for her to protest in the first place. Swift has sold the most units for a female artist in first week sales, is the first female artist with 100k monthly Spotify listeners, is the first female artist to win the Album of the Year Grammy 4 times, and is the first female artist to do X, Y, and Z, all while being inoffensive and family-friendly to boot. The actual Taylor Swift seems unwilling to compromise the brand of Taylor Swift by contributing in meaningful ways to feminist causes, especially if it is for women outside of America and Hollywood.
The reason political anthems such as "The Man" and "Only the Young" of the Lover era feel disingenuous and corporate is because, well, it is. Taylor has taken every opportunity to advance her career or public image at the expense of other women. What is truly genuine to Taylor's outlook on other women is vying for male attention, taking down female competition, and vocalizing feminist injustices only if they directly impact her and her money. Some will argue that it's satisfactory for a woman with such a huge platform to even TALK about feminism, but that just isn't enough. It's even less impressive when you candidly look at the scope of her feminist lens: "If I was the man, then I'd be THE MAN", or "I really resent the ‘Be careful, buddy, she’s going to write a song about you’ angle, because it trivialises what I do", and, of course, "We all got crowns". Feminism, but only when it happens to me. It gets worse when you look at Taylor's track record of copying other famous women and removing other female artists as potential threats to her pop prowess.
It's good for PR to align yourself with certain blanket feminist and political beliefs, therefore good for branding, therefore good for ticketing and merchandise sales, therefore good for business. And Taylor Swift is a business.
She's not a feminist. Taylor Swift is a capitalist.

I Can't Pay Those Sweatshop Workers a Livable Wage or Benefits! How Else Would I Make My Billions?

Recently, Taylor's team filed to trademark the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical" after Taylor said during Paris N1 of the Eras Tour,
"So you were the first ones to see The Tortured Poets at the Eras Tour...or as I like to call it, 'Female Rage: The Musical'."
This trademark petition was filed last week on Saturday, and news comes about just as numerous unofficial fan-made merch designs have cropped up with this phrase plastered on Fruit of the Loom basics. I'm of the opinion Swift's team motioned for a trademark so that they can send out cease & desists to all those that make knockoff merch, which disrupts potential sales for Bravado, UMG's choice merchandising company; however, since it was filed earlier, perhaps Swift has bigger plans with the bizarre use of the gendered phrase. One Swiftie referred to the phrase "female rage" as "a funny Eras Tour joke". Could it be a possible fourth version of the Eras Tour Movie? Whatever the reason, the motion to capitalize off of such a concept is disgusting, but not unsurprising, for a woman that profits on her vain feminism.
Swift, through her company, TAS Rights Managements, has also trademarked over 200 phrases, including "1989", where she owns the property rights to this calendar year on keychains, phone cases, sunglasses, stationary, bags, beverage ware, clothing, entertainment services, your subconscious, and, of course, Christmas ornaments.
The vapid consumerism in Swiftie culture is, frankly, disgusting. Bravado's sustainability statement is non-existent, the quality control is abysmal, and the materials they use are horrible. The materials, such as acrylic and polyester, are made from petrochemicals. This means they are non-renewable, shed microplastics, and are quite toxic in production. The manufacturing process to make all of those lazy-rushed Eras Tour logo graphic tees is a huge blow to environmental well-being. Apparently, though, Swifties don't give a fuck. They sell out products in seconds and either have to face the manufactured scarcity or buy from a scalper that resells for 200% of the already ridiculous retail price. This doesn't include the environmental impact of vinyl records, CD, and cassette production, of which Taylor produces many variants that sell unsustainable amounts.
If we're talking about women's rights violations, why is no one acknowledging the women that work in the inhumane sweatshop conditions that have to pump out fugly t-shirts and hats? The millions of plastic microfiber dander they are inhaling, or the toxic dyes that touch their bare skin? Are they being compensated fairly for their skilled labour and are they in safe working environments? Do these women have minimal bargaining power, and do they have authority over their worker's rights? Is Taylor Swift female raging at their injustices? Does Taylor Swift ever feels bad that her wealth was built on the backs of women of color, disadvantaged by the demands of the global economy and garment industry? Do you think she ever says a little white feminist prayer for them before she goes to sleep at night?
What's even crazier is not that Taylor herself doesn't care, it's that Swifties don't care. There CANNOT BE ethical billionaires. You only make a billion dollars if you are exploiting other human beings for capital gain. Based on public perception of the possible "Female Rage: The Musical" trademark, it seems like Swifties are already asking for merch with this phrase. "If Taylor made it, I'd buy it." Oh, cool. So not only do you champion Miss Swift's avarice and billionaire status, but you also are unashamed to admit to your blind consumption of her music and merchandise, no matter where they might originate in production or sincerity. Just as Swift takes and takes and takes, Swifties' consumerism of Taylor Swift cannot be quelled.
The tortured artist's most vulnerable and sincere poetry...available now in 21 different versions!

I Am Tortured Poet, Hear Me Whinge

Look - even if Taylor's intention is to characterize TTPD as more "tortured" and "angry", the main thread of the album is "I was ghosted by my decade-long situationship with a controversial indie boy and my fucking stupid fans wrote a 'Speak Up Now' open letter prompting me to drop him" anger, which is adequately expressed in the lyrics and performances. The extent of Taylor's "female rage" on TTPD is on tracks such as "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?", which contends with relentless media scrutiny; "But Daddy I Love Him", where Swift firmly states she'll date whoever she likes no matter how "Sarahs and Hannahs" may react; and "The Albatross", a track mythologizing her reputation and the consequences of dating her. Of course, these coincide with deep psychological wounds that formed during Swift's early years in the media, and so, from her feminist perspective, these subjects tackle the misogyny and double standards that she faced.
Yet Taylor Swift still has no grounds to be claiming that TTPD best exemplifies female rage and therefore she, in the context of this album, is female rage incarnate. As the daughter of a stock broker and mutual fund marketing executive, Taylor was born into wealth and allowed privileges like trips and subsequent relocation to Nashville all so that she might get a record deal. Her father even invested at least $120,000 into the then-fledgling label, Big Machine Records, which ensured Taylor's place with Borchetta after leaving her dead-end development deal with Sony. The fact that her parents were able to buy her a fucking brand new guitar for Christmas and pay for music lessons says so much about the financial security and safety of her childhood.
Money is privilege and protection, and despite Swift's experiences with misogyny and loser boyfriends, she does not know what female rage is.
Her rage is derived from her frustrations with her obsessive fans pulling the moral superiority card on Taylor in response to her rebound with Matty Healy. That's literally it. She's just pissed that the monster she created is no longer obediant, it's become a feral, sovereign entity that depletes the world of its natural resources and thinks it is more intelligent than it actually is because it's mommy has started to talk to it with big words. Apparently, 'illicit', 'elegy', 'nonchalant', and 'precocious' are considerably big words for the oafish monster, and I find it strange that this level of literacy is present in a group of fans that allegedly have GPAs of 3.5 or higher, but I digress.
Taylor Swift has never been one paycheck away from destitution. Taylor Swift has never experienced racial discrimination. She may have instances of gender discrimination, but she possesses the ideal white, blonde American beauty standard and therefore reaps the benefits of being a conventionally attractive woman. Taylor Swift has sufficient social capital. Taylor Swift is a billionaire woman prolonging her victimhood though she, as a woman, has mostly had control over her image and music (unlike her contemporaries). Taylor Swift is NOT entitled to be championed for her "female rage", nor should she be. Taylor Swift has never even been the struggling artist, for fuck's sake. I don't give a fuck if she's trying to fill the empty lunch tables of her past. Taylor Swift purporting herself, her unpolished album, and her lukewarm feminism as a musical bleeding with female rage is asinine.

Sigh Try and Come For My Job, Poors

Out there in the world right now is a 23-year-old woman, a recent college grad, who works as a barista. She has to wake up and get ready to go into a minimum wage job because she cannot get a job in her field. She doesn't have healthcare benefits or sick time, so she has to go into work no matter how she's feeling. All day long she is berated by vicious customers and creepy men, and, exhausted from being on her feet, she knows she has to go home to her shitty roommate that never does the dishes and her roommate's shitty dog. To comfort herself, she considers getting a treat, but thinks against it when she remembers that matcha lattes cost $15 and they taste like milky dirt. She knows that she needs to buy groceries this week, and so the woman resolves to go home, but notices that her gas tank is low. She goes to put gas in the car, but the pump stops at $27.86 because that's all that she has in her checking account. The woman, bereft and reeling, sinks into the driver's seat. "Well," she thinks, her head in her hands, "at least I don't have Taylor Swift's job. I just couldn't imagine."
Fame is somewhat of a choice. If at any moment Taylor feels that she is misunderstood, misconstrued, or overwhelmed by public opinion, she can LEAVE the public eye - Lord knows she has the retirement fund and residuals to do so. In "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart", the TTPD song about meeting the demands of your career-zenith mega-tour while in the relationship trenches, Taylor ends the song by rambling,
"You know you're good when you can even do it with a broken heart...you know you're good...and I'm good, cause I'm miserable, and no one even knows!...try and come for my job."
Yeah, obviously we wouldn't know, you recently passed the billionaire threshold and are the most famous and in-demand performer in the world right now. Taylor Swift makes an estimated $10 to $13 million dollars A NIGHT on the Eras Tour. Furthermore, the Eras Tour movie grossed $261.6 million globally, (which, as the producer, Taylor takes home 57% of the ticket sales) not counting the streaming revenue from Amazon Prime Video and the estimated $75 million deal that Disney paid to have it on Disney+. We're not even considering the income from cheap plastic popcorn buckets and drink cups plastered with colored squares in her Era-specific likeness.
It's funny. Taylor Swift often said that being famous wasn't hard, that she "isn't complaining". I'm sure it is difficult to always have to present in a good mood, else you'll end up misrepresented in the media, and I'm sure it's invasive to virtually have no privacy or semblance of anonymity. Still, Taylor Swift shows up each night of tour and performs. For a majority of her career, she has penned her sad songs while on the road. Most of "Red", her breakup album, was written in the thick of the Speak Now World tour. Now, some Swifties say they almost "feel bad" for attending the Eras Tour with Swift's revelations in this song, that they have had a 'dimmed experience' upon hearing Taylor's misery whilst performing. Despite the fact that Taylor said that "this was the happiest she's ever been" at Gilette Stadium in May, the lyrics "boohoo, woe is me, smile for the cameras and make the fans happy!!!" are jarring for Eras attendees.
While Taylor Swift was making double-digit millions a night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and feeling miserable, Ana Clara Benevides Machado passed away due to heat exposure. The concert promoters, Time For Fun, are now the subject of a criminal investigation due to their lack of adequate hydration and safety. Taylor Swift cancelled the Sunday show that was to follow and offered VIP tent tickets to Benevides Marchado's family, which was a kind gesture, but perhaps incongruous to the incident of which they were offered as consolation. Everyone grieves differently, of course, but I'm not sure attending the very show at the very same venue that my daughter or sister passed away in two days prior, where the singer CONTINUED the show despite her death, would be healthy for closure.
There was no female rage at the show as Swift never saw Benevides Machado pass out. There was no female rage towards the disregard for fans as humans while Swift elected to proceed with her Brazil tour dates despite the country being in historic heatwaves (at risk of overheatting herself). If Taylor Swift was so shaken by touring with a broken heart or a fan's passing, she wouldn't have added an additional North American leg of Eras just two months after the Matty breakup. She's brokenhearted but willing to mend the cracks with your money and move onward with her worldwide female rage induced pillaging.
No matter what happens, even if you die at a Taylor Swift concert, Taylor collects a big fat check and flies away. She doesn't know you as anything other than a conversion rate or earning potential despite what her nearly 20-year long parasocial relationship with fans might otherwise indicate. She knows that, while some Swifties are without disposable income, they feel obligated to spend on a "48 Hours Only!" exclusive vinyl variant instead of necessities because they are so entrenched in Taylor Swift's intoxicating celebrity, they'll prioritize materialistic fandom before their needs. This is good enough for her because this means she can expand her real estate portfolio and finance her cat's lavish lifestyles. They're worth an estimated $100 million dollars. Her three cats could pool their net worth and solve world hunger.
While you and I might be denied bereavement leave and barely surviving the current political and economic climate, Taylor Swift has to, instead of gets to, perform for stadiums at full attendance for three nights in a row across the globe. You and I might be replaced by AI at our longtime jobs, but Taylor Swift is threatened with losing more and more money each time you listen to a "Stolen Version" of her songs. If we don't buy every variant of all of her albums, then who is going to pay for the fucking cats?
It is tone deaf to spend as she spends and lives as she lives in this economy, but this is her reality. She was able to donate $100,000 to all of her tour truck drivers, and that's wonderful, but it leads me to wonder about the ethos of the 2020s where one woman can hoard such life-changing amounts of money. Remember in 2014 when she gave a fan $90 ($120 in today's money) to get Chipotle because she had no fucking clue how much it cost? This is a 34-year-old woman who is increasingly out of touch with the reality for working class people and women in general. Normal everyday adults must wake up and go to their thankless jobs, and yet Taylor Swift, despite all her riches, incessantly references the lows of her life and career as a public figure and entertainer to farm sympathy and drive sales. And still, the corporate women have latched onto "I cry a lot, but I am so productive! It's an art!" as their cubicle battle cry.
Do you think that, from up in her private jet, Taylor Swift gazes at the world through her poetic, tortured eyes, and thinks, "All the little people, in their cars, walking, going about their lives...all those girls that don't support girls...do they know that I've made an album about female rage?"

Conclusion/TLDR

Thank you for reading. I would love to hear your critical insights towards this entire ordeal: TTPD, the trademark, the implications of it all.
TLDR: Taylor Swift is a bad feminist and is delusional to think that the TTPD eras set exemplifies female rage at women's injustice.

2024.05.14 13:16 Environmental-Run248 Venlil Prime/Skalga and supernaturality

LastSaneSentient Bleated (Human account detected)
So let’s talk. For most of my life I’ve been a skeptic with a live and let live view on things. I don’t believe any gods exist and I used to think the supernatural was all smoke and mirrors but as long as people didn’t try to force their beliefs on me I would be polite and kind.
Then I came here. Now I still don’t believe in any kind of god but some freaky things happen on this near abomination of a planet. I’m serious I once saw a family of five venlil from the nightside grieving next to this strange patchwork tree and there was a slightly bigger than normal almost entirely black venlil embracing the whole family.
Here’s the thing though when I mentioned it to my friend (a local of the town I’m staying in called Shimmer wood) she said there was only four venlil there and I look back and the bigger pitch black one was just straight up gone. The whole family was still there and hadn’t moved the fifth venlil was just gone and I’m pretty sure he didn’t walk off.
Here’s the kicker when my friend went over to talk with the family [ shameless plug this is the friend if you want a custom built home PC or need a specific component contact me at @techandspecOfficial be warned the more complex the higher the price ] the larger venlil I saw matched the deceased father of the family.
Then there’s this thing I’m personally going through right now where an older venlil from Shimmer wood who I was friends with and had nicknamed Mrs Mishi passed away last week but now if I don’t eat the amount of meat I need to be healthy her voice scolds me and if ignore it I feel the cane she got from earth jabbing me in the back until I eat healthy again.
I don’t understand it because this sort of thing never happened to me on earth. No seeing ghosts, no voices and no annoying poltergeist who’s only purpose is to harass me until I’m eating healthy. It’s only started happening on this damn planet!!!

2024.05.14 08:10 residentalien2 Why not pll that chain and make it stop

I am reading so many posts about reserved seat travelers having to deal with unreserved passengers. Someone just posted about this issue in 1AC. I understand a lot of this is from lack of sufficient General or Sleeper coaches. Unfortunately the only right solution is more coaches, but that ain't happening. One aspect that is not mentioned as often is of safety. Unreserved passengers are not accounted or tracked in any way in the system. If they travel in the coach, they have intimate proximity to your body and belongings. They can commit a crime and jump off and there's no way to know who did what.
Question: If complaint to TTE or attendant is not helping, why not pull the chain and force the train to stop and have the authorities take action? I did this once but it has been a couple decades. My coach (it was 3AC or 2AC) was dirty, with filth around the toilet that was unacceptable. I gave the coach attendant one complaint and said this must be cleaned at the next stop (I think it was Nagpur). Work was not done, so I pulled the chain when the train was leaving. Train stopped and started to move again after a few minutes. I pulled the chain again. And the second time, the station authorities arrived and scrambled to clean the mess.

2024.05.14 00:03 Icy_Competition8947 Reworking Taro (now in a dedicated post)

Or rather, in a dedicated repost, because silly me couldn't read the pinned post and wait a few hours before posting my text the first time.

After giving a proper rewrite to Ayano, it's now time to do the same for her love interest. But first, I must give my apologises. The title of my post is "Reworking Taro", but it's actually misleading because there was barely any work to redo to begin with. Ok, there was the easy jab at the original character. Reading my previous rewrite posts isn't necessary to understand this one, but would allow you to grasp the differences with the official game better. If you're too lazy to do so, just keep in mind that my rewrite is a bit more social-focused. Anyway, here's my full-fledged take on our senpai.

Just an ordinary upperclassman: Daiki Tanaka (田中 大樹)

Although Taro Yamada is a perfectly valid Japanese name, it's literally the Japanese equivalent of John Doe. This name just gives me the impression that nothing really matters about him, and that it isn't even worth the effort thinking about a proper name. That might have been the dev's intention, given Taro's characterisation in the game, but I personally can't consider being so lazy about the second most important character. So, rather than keeping this name that makes Senpai seem like some background character, I chose names that actually are very common in Japan in order to keep the "average guy" feeling. The most common Japanese surname is Sato (佐藤), but that sounded a bit too generic for me, so I opted for Tanaka (田中), another widespread name that you might already have seen in some anime. Surprisingly, despite also being common, Yamada (山田) doesn't even come close. For his first name, "Daiki" (written like this: 大樹) means "big tree". It's a fairly popular boy name during the last decades and doesn't refer to anything particular, except maybe the fact that he is a big brother.
Just like many other mediocre harem MC, the main problem with Taro is that he is extremely bland. There's literally nothing worth noticing about him. Now don't get me wrong, making one of your main characters an Average Joe isn't a bad thing in itself, and I know that a yandere having a crush on ordinary people is nothing uncommon in modern Japanese media. However, even the most boringly average person that you can think of still has defined personality, goals, and passions that makes them at least more interesting than a slice of stale bread. In our case, you could replace Taro with a random object and the story would still make as much sense, which usually isn't a good sign for a story meant to have a serious tone. Just like my name choice suggested it, I wanted my version of Taro to stay ordinary. However, I tried to flesh out the little characterization he originally has to make him stand out in his own way, so that the numerous girls' interest in him would feel a bit less unbelievable.
This is Daiki Tanaka, a 17-years old Japanese boy living with his parents and his little sister. Like many other Japanese high-schoolers, he goes to high school from Monday to Friday, attends classes, studies for his tests, and hopes he will be accepted in a good university. And just like many other teenagers, he is is having interrogations about what he wants to do after graduation, how his classmates view him, and whether he'll find himself a girlfriend. Clearly, he's just an average student. Among the typical students you can find in a school, Daiki is a hard-working one. Pressured both by his parents and himself to get the best opportunities he can to settle his future, he is self-conscious about his academic performances and is always trying to improve his grades. Thus, he preferred to remain clubless and spend his free time alone to focus on his studies. Most of the time, he is seen studying at the school library, or reading a book of classic literature next to the fountain. But behind this ordinary reserved bookworm loner appearance is a kind and cultivated boy with a strong sense of justice and a clear passion for the old texts he's reading, making him actually quite a charming person to spend time with for those who can see past his plain exterior. Ayano, of course, is one of those few people, but little did she know that she won't be the only one interested in her dear senpai.

Gameplay role

According to the wiki:
Gameplay-wise, Taro is more similar to a "moving obstacle" rather than a regular interactive student, as he cannot be interacted with normally.
And you see, to me, that's a big problem. You spend the entire game keeping rivals away from Senpai by killing them, making them uninterested in him, or ruining their reputation, and after all the bad experiences he had with those (rather) normal girls, you expect me to believe that the girl Senpai, the perfectly normal guy at all levels, ends up choosing is the creepy lonely student that he has barely spoken to? Nah, I don't buy it. This is why, in my rewrite, my Senpai would be (most of the time) considered as a regular student that you can actually interact with. That means, first, that Ayano wouldn’t get immediately flustered by him when approaching him. I understand that people, especially teenagers, can act shy, nervous, or a little clumsy when their crush are at sight, but seriously, the depiction of this behaviour in the game is completely ridiculous. So, in my hypothetical game, you will have a small amount of time where you will be able to act normally near Daiki and talk to him before your heart starts beating louder and the screen gradually turns pink. Past this point, things pretty much happen the same as in the official game, since Ayano is emotionally unstable. Naturally, the more you interact with Daiki, the longer you will be able to remain calm in his presence.
Now that Senpai can be interacted with, it’s time to explore the potential of this addition by giving him another feature regular students have: tasks. Even if you can withstand his aura a bit better than in the official game, most of the conversations you’ll have with him won’t be long due to Ayano’s shyness. So, if you want to befriend Daiki, those little errands are the key to increase your affinity with him. For a more immersive narration, Daiki's tasks won't be your usual fetch quests that you can accept or refuse, but small talk where you must pay attention and figure out what to do to by yourself. The tasks will be at first very simple, like bringing him his schoolbag that he forgot in his classroom or gifting him the book he wanted to buy. Then, as he feels more comfortable around you, he will start talking a bit more openly about his life and his preoccupations, naturally leading to more complex tasks with more vague formulations and less obvious solutions, such as helping him become less invisible among his classmates. What would be the point of doing all that, will you ask? Having a higher affinity with Daiki will allow Ayano to make him follow her if you need to tactically move him for one of your eliminations. He will also be more likely to reject the rivals’ love confessions in case you don’t have the time to deal with them yourself. Moreover, narrative-wise, I think having the main character interact with their love interest would be a more realistic and healthier depiction of romance in the story. Well, as “healthy” as a yandere can be. But of course, you could also completely ignore this mechanic and focus on eliminating if you want to.
Finally, I would like to improve the reactions he has regarding students' disappearances. Despite all those things happening near him, he is shocked for a bit and then just kinda... accept it like nothing strange happened? The second most important character of the game, ladies and gentlemen. I get it, Senpai is a loner, he is passive, and he is dense. But at this point, that's not being passive anymore, that's being a wooden plank. So, this is my take: Daiki's sense of justice and passion for literature gave him a natural curiosity for crimes because of its depiction in novels. When facing murder, he will mostly act according to the loner archetype. However, if too many deaths or disappearances near him stay unresolved by the police and his sanity is high enough, he will find the courage to take a more active role and investigate on the crimes himself. Obviously, Daiki won't be able to arrest anyone by himself, but he has the advantage of being directly at the crime place and closer to the people at school than the police. Thus, he could report them additional details that they might have missed, like a student acting stranger than usual, missing tools or places cleaner than usual. This could put you in trouble unless you cover your tracks very well, or just prevent him from investigating. And of course, I would also implement Senpai's sanity meter that has been promised for I don't know how much time (but honestly, are you still hoping for it to be implemented after all that happened?), although slightly reworked. Daiki's sanity would decrease with any person dying. The closer the person is to him, both physically and figuratively, the lower it would drop. The deaths that would affect him the most would thus be those of his sister, his childhood friend, or anyone murdered right in front of him. On the opposite, a random student dying at the other side of the school would barely have any effect. A low sanity would have various effects on Daiki depending on its value and the amount of time he has spent with the other students. Those effects could be taking private lessons due to his grades dropping, joining a certain club to feel safer, or shutting himself in at home in one of the worst scenarios. In any case, this would affect his routine. Just like in the official concept, he would be able to recover sanity with a long enough crimeless period or giving him gifts. Only now would the rivals also be able to use the later method to gain affection, making them act a bit more like romantic rivals. I hope you don't mind actually caring about your senpai's mental health.

Relationships with other characters

The rivals
Obviously, a reworked senpai means reworked dynamics with your main targets. Since detailing everything would be way too long for a single post, I'll just link here my take on the romantic rivals that I decided to keep in my hypothetical game, and here, what I'd do with the discarded ones. Since they are Daiki's closest people, and the most likely to affect his mood in the game, I'll still put here what I have in mind for my version of Osana and Hanako.
His sister
Just like his canon counterpart, Daiki loves his sister very much. A feeling that is reciprocated a bit too much. Unlike her brother who has a balanced lifestyle, the middle-schooler is a very clingy girl who can't imagine being away from him. She has the bad habit of leaving her school during lunchtime just to visit him, which greatly embarrasses Daiki. Even if he appreciates the time they spend together in the end, he knows that this behaviour is unhealthy, and hope that, one day, his sister will find the confidence to become more independent. In my rewrite, the little sister isn't a romantic rival, but someone that I'd call a "big obstacle", as her role is mainly to appear at random (or maybe not, I haven't decided yet) days during lunchtime and potentially mess up your planification for the day. You wouldn't want to kill someone in front of your crush's beloved sister, right?
His childhood friend
Daiki and his sister have known their neighbours' daughter for more than a decade. All three of them used to play together during their childhood. The neighbours' daughter is a brash and impulsive girl, whose personality clashes with Daiki's quieter nature. Despite frequently being at odds and arguing about trivial things, both of them deeply care about each other and would be the first person to help the other if they were having problems. Daiki and his friend didn't have many occasions to see each other since elementary school, until the girl coincidentally transferred to the same high school as him. Even if he is now more serious and reserved than before, deep inside, he is still the same kind boy that she knew. Now that they can once again spend much time together, the girl has come to realize she was in love with her dear friend, but her internal turmoil and her personality make it difficult for her to act sincere and confess her feelings. She stays otherwise pretty similar to Osana, except for the greater consequences when dealing with her by using lethal eliminations, and maybe the fact that she won't be the first rival to appear.
Budo (or whatever name I'll end up giving him)
Yes, you read it right. That guy that overshadows Senpai among the fans is one of his friends in my rewrite. Because even the most introverted individuals are able to develop relationships with people that aren't potential romantic interests. The leader of the martial arts club is an outgoing action-oriented boy who is pretty popular at school. Unlike Daiki, Budo always knew in his heart that his place would be in a dojo, and thus doesn't have much interest in academics. But despite having such different backgrounds and personalities, both boys share the same sense of justice and admiration toward heroes. When he's not attending classes, studying or reading, Daiki hangs out with Budo, and is sometimes invited to watch the martial arts club members practicing. If too many dangerous events happen around Daiki, Budo, as an aspiring hero and good friend, will propose to escort him at certain periods, becoming basically a part-time bodyguard.
Ayano
Nothing much to say here. Daiki unknowingly reminded Ayano, who has locked her heart for years, how great it is to have feelings when they first met, and now she wants to make sure nothing stands between them. How she will reach her ends is your decision. If she decides to spend time with him and do his tasks, he will think of her as a peculiar, but well-intentioned girl. Just like in canon, Daiki is oblivious to Ayano's feelings, but it's more due to the fact that they barely know each other.

Trivia

And that was my full-fledged take on Taro. When you have an ordinary person as a character in the middle of very colourful ones, the key to make the public care about him is to give them tangible preoccupations that, even if they aren't always relatable, make this character at least feel like a real person with human struggles and dreams, and not just a barebone plot device. And that might seems obvious, but if you have to write a love interest, make sure you actually show your public what your main character likes about him. That's even more important in the case where many people are attracted to this character. I tried to take those two things into account when rewriting Taro, and I know it's far from perfect, so don't hesitate to tell me what I should improve. In any case, if you made it to the end, thank you for taking the time to read this long post. I hope I'll find the motivation to do the same with other characters.

MNS Trassau

Speinfoent turned around to face Loenda and reported the battlegroup status. “Commander, all ships have successfully completed the blink. Squadrons 4 to 12 all reporting in.”
“Good. Now let’s find out if this ridiculous scheme of yours gets all of us killed,” Loenda said. “Are you sure your sire and dam were not Grass Eaters?”
Speinfoent ignored the jab and continued with the report, “Our sensors are still resolving the enemy ships, but I am certain we are in the right place.”

ZNS 1841

Ditvish woke to the urgent cry of the ship’s klaxon. Wiping sleep from his mind, he picked up his communication device. “Did Skvanu get the raiders from Sixth Fleet?”
“No, Ten Whiskers, you must come to the flag bridge at once!”
“What is it this time? Can’t you ask your combat computers?” he grumbled tiredly.
“Ten Whiskers, the enemy fleet is here!”
He woke up in a hurry. “What?! Here? In Datsot?!”
“Yes, they just blinked in! Their fleet is heading our way, and they have just gone into a full combat burn!”

MNS Trassau

“We are seeing two to three squadrons of space combat ships, mostly Forager-class missile destroyers, and their Thorn-class battleship, the 1841. In orbit of Datsot are another thirty-two orbital support ships and several dozen other support vessels,” Speinfoent reported. “The enemy combat ships are stationary and in a loose formation. It looks like we did catch them off guard.”
“For now,” Loenda hedged. “They’ll be ready and engines hot hours before we come into range. And we don’t have the Nile’s magic sensors working with us this time.”
“No, but we did get the other fishing supplies in the last shipment.”
“We have only been exercising with those for a week!” Loenda exclaimed. “It is risky for our first live use to be against a fully capable combat fleet.”
“I thought you didn’t believe in exercises…” Seeing the ugly expression forming on her face, Speinfoent hurriedly moved on. “Anyway, the missiles will work. They may be barely fastened to the outside of our hulls, but I’m sure they work. After all, we didn’t make them.”
Loenda counted up the enemy ships on her console and did some calculations in her head. “Against my every instinct, we will go ahead, but with the most risk-averse option you came up with earlier. Execute Option Charlie.”
“Affirmative. Maintaining burn. Execute vector change in three minutes…”

ZNS 1841

“Ten Whiskers, they are performing an orbital transfer,” Ditvish’s computer officer called out, eyes glued to the glowing screens of her console.
Ditvish leaned forward. “What is their heading and intercept now?”
“It appears there is no intercept. If they continue their current burn, they may eventually move into a parallel orbit to us.”
“Parallel orbit? That doesn’t make sense. They didn’t come here just to make us wet our pants. Ask the combat computer, how far from us will they be at their closest?” Ditvish asked, puzzled.
A minute of calculations later, she relayed from her console, “It depends on whether they execute another vector change, but at their current burn and at their closest, they should come no closer than twelve times the maximum effective range of our missiles.”
Ditvish peered at the sensor panel, racking his brain for ideas.
None of this made any sense. Skvanu reported in earlier with a blink relay ship since the FTL radios were not working. In the data packet, he said that he was chasing three squadrons of the enemy fleet and planned to run them down with the superior blink fuel capacity of the Znosian ships — these must be the other nine squadrons from Sixth Fleet.
What were they doing here?
If these Lesser Predators forced him to engage in fleet battle here, they very well might have an upper hand, with their nine squadrons to his mere three. But they weren’t cutting him off aggressively or forcing an engagement. If they did move in boldly, he could always back off… delay until Skvanu finishes, returns to Datsot, and coordinate to trap this fleet in the system. But the enemy seemed almost… disinterested in combat; it did not even look like they were going to transfer into range.
“What are your orders, Ten Whiskers?” the computer officer asked.
For the first time in a long time, Ditvish felt at a complete loss. “None for now. Continue to observe the enemy and stay on high alert. Be prepared to move. And update me when Eight Whiskers Skvanu reports anything.”

MNS Oengro

The vacuum of Plaunsollib once again filled up with the communication chatter and munitions of the Malgeir fleet.
“Weapons-free… Kraken away.”
“Bandits deploying glow-worms.”
“Anchor gadgets to Jackal. Tracking.”
Grionc sat back and watched the controlled chaos of the Oengro bridge unfold as they engaged the outnumbered supply convoy escorts in front of them as they continued to stay one step ahead of the massive armada right behind them. The task remained familiar. The practiced crew could have completed this in their sleep. The stakes were higher now, but the job remained the same.
“Vampire swarm. Defending.”
“Popping confetti and turning up the music.”
“Vampires trashed.”
Either through luck or because they had gotten really good at it, most of the projectiles the eight escorts launched at them went wild, flying off into space chasing dazzler signals in errant directions. A few did come closer but were fooled at the last second by decoys and other countermeasures. The remaining were shot down by the Malgeir’s native close-in defense systems that were now being boosted by superior gravidar sensors aboard the Nile light seconds away.
The enemy convoy was not so lucky. Their sensor signatures disappeared from Grionc’s console, one by one.
“Splash four Forager. No, make that five.”
“Kraken away. We have two more on the way. They’ve gone pitbull.”
“That’s splash six and seven. Can someone confirm number eight?”
“Check. I have number eight.”
“Roger.”
Finally, Captain Vastae turned to Grionc to confirm. “High Fleet Commander, the supply convoy has been destroyed. Looks like the supplies self-destructed too.”
Grionc nodded in acknowledgement, not taking her eyes off the sensor console.
To underscore how common this type of success had become, even the crew’s cheers were subdued. In tonnage, this was no less a victory than it was the first time it was pulled off, but this was a crew who had been there before. They’d seen it. They’d done that.
And there were still the hundreds of enemy combat ships trailing them. Some were getting uncomfortably close to entering their missiles’ maximum powered ranges. None had fired yet; the Znosians were not so undisciplined, but it was close enough to make Grionc nervous.
She nodded at Captain Vastae. “Follow the vector we have been provided towards the systems limit. I don’t want to be one second behind schedule.”

ZNS 2228

Eight Whiskers Skvanu had known from his hatchling-hood that he was different than the others. His educators and caretakers always complained he asked too many questions and never took enough responsibility for his own actions. He learned to suppress the questions and to fake contrition, even when it didn’t make sense, saving those thoughts for the privacy of his own brain. He found this practice useful, and he used it to quickly ascend the totem-pole of rank in the Znosian Navy.
A meritorious society with supposedly transparent accountability, it should not have been so easy for him to breeze past promotion after promotion in his career. But when it was so easy for him to think for himself and simply obscure failures when they occur, his competitors didn’t stand a chance.
That was until he met Ten Whiskers Ditvish.
There, he met not only a kindred soul, but also one who could see right through him. At times, the senior fleet master made him feel like a fraud; at other times, he felt special, as if he’d been given a gift. Under Ditvish, he thrived. He was given more responsibility than normally assigned to regular eight whiskers officers by Ditvish, and here he was proudly commanding the bulk of his fleet.
Skvanu was determined not to let his mentor, and increasingly his confidant, down.
He looked at the sensor panel on his console. They will catch these Lesser Predators.
“Eight Whiskers, we still can’t talk to the Datsot fleet on FTL radio,” his computer officer reported. “I take full responsibility for this continued failure.”
“Don’t worry about it, Six Whiskers,” he replied casually. “We expected this to happen. It must be those Lesser Predators. Either a device on their fleet, or somewhere else hidden in this system. It is truly a war-changing upgrade, in ways that they might not even fully understand. Once we defeat them, we will take apart their wreck bit by bit and chase down every lead until we find it.”
“Yes, Eight Whiskers,” the officer replied. She hesitated for a moment but then decided to speak her mind. “I am— Don’t you find it deeply unsettling to know we are out of contact with the fleet master and— and the rest of the Prophecy?”
He looked up at her, gazing into her frightened eyes. “No, not at all. In fact, I am comforted by the silence. No micromanagement. No orders from above. Just our own wits to survive and win this battle. Full responsibility, for my actions, for all our actions. Today, there is truly no one else to blame.”
“Yes, Eight Whiskers,” she bowed, thankful for his insight and her confidence bolstered by his self-assurance. “That is an enlightening way of thought.”
“Indeed, it is. And besides, we still have our blink relay ships, even if they are slow in getting information through.”
“Yes, Eight Whiskers. Another has just departed with news of the supply losses.”
“Now, tell me what the enemy has done since they rejoined Six Whiskers Mgnats and his ships with the Prophecy,” Skvanu ordered, looking at the console in front of him. The enemy’s three squadrons had taken apart the eight escort ships like they were a knife through water without losing a single ship. It would have been difficult to believe had he not watched it happen through his sensors in real time… Almost real time. The two-hour light speed delay meant that his fleet died before they saw it get engaged. But the fleet was closing on the cursed Lesser Predator ambushers…
“They had been a half leap ahead of us the whole time, but the combat computer evaluates that one of their ships may have been damaged in the… skirmish with Six Whiskers Mgnats.”
Skirmish was an… ambitious word choice, Skvanu thought. Slaughter might have been closer. He prompted, “How did the combat computer come to this assessment?”
“Their acceleration is now slightly but measurably lower than when they went into the fight. It’s about a ten percent reduction. It thinks that one of them sustained minor damage and the rest of the fleet is matching its acceleration profile to mask the identity of the wounded ship.”
Skvanu frowned. “That does not seem right. Is there any evidence that Mgnats’ ships scored a hit on the Lesser Predators?”
“No,” she admitted. “Our sensors saw no debris. But it may be an accident, friendly fire, or some kind of a technical malfunction aboard one of their ships. The combat computer is speculating. But they are moving slower now: that much is clear to the sensors.”
“How does that affect our intercept timeline?”
“Given our current vector and accelerations, we will intercept slightly after they reach the system limit. They will probably attempt to blink out, but all we have to do is observe their blink vector and follow.”
Skvanu nodded. “And at that point, for all the upgrades these Lesser Predators have received, there’s only so much blink fuel they could have retrofitted a combat ship to carry. They can’t have improved their blink range much. Not enough to overcome our two-to-one fuel capacity advantage, at least. Today, the predators shall become our prey.”

2024.05.13 17:31 MasterMango01 I want to escape from a toxic father

[Throwaway account] [Long post]
17M. Today cbse boards result came out. And I got 68% and I feel devastated.
I tried to do jee coaching and school simultaneously but I couldn't. I used to feel sleepy in classes so much that my eyes felt like burning. I was just not interested in this rat race.
My father is the most toxic person I've ever met. He doesn't even talk to strangers with respect or politely. I couldn't clear jee and my father scolded me a lot and today he said even more stuff that I couldn't take in.
I got horrible percentile in JEE. I know this is not the end of life and these grades don't define someone's potential or life. I accept I couldn't perform well and learnt my lesson through bad decisions.
But aaj papa ne bola "tera ky hoga, pura future barbad krliya h", "2 saal kuch pdhai nhi kiya bas phone chalaya, game khela, timepass kiya", "har ek exam me fail hogya", "ab aage ki padhai chhod de, labour ka kaam kr ky krega pdh kr", "5 lakh barbaad krdiya school or coaching me".
I wasn't like this always. Maine 8th tak boht competitions, olympiads wagera kiya h. Mujhe nhi pata mai jee coaching kyu le liya. Ky hogya mere saath mujhe nhi pata.
He called me and said "apna laptop and phone tod de aur photo khich kr bhej". Kyu todu mai apna phone jab maine freelancing krke khud ke paise se kharida th.
I'm not joking but he called me "ch*tiya and mc" too for not scoring good marks. He even scolded my mother and sister for all this. Bas yahi bolte raha ki mat kr aage ki padhai, sab barbad krliya h ab mera kuch nhi hoga kahi.
Aaj pehli bar saalo baad meri aankho se aasu aagye. Aaj mere se control nhi hua aur mai chhat pr jakr silently andr se cry kr rh th.
He has his ego problem and anger issues. Idk what's his problem. Hamesha se aisa toxic behaviour raha h. Kabhi game khelne nhi diya to jab bhi time milta th bachpan me mai game khelte rhta th kyuki brain aisa sochta th ki ghr me nhi h yeh abhi jitna marji khel leta.
Bachpan me cash me paise diye th aur bola rkhne and maj spend krdiya kyuki bhai bachha th curiosity thi. To jis din pata chala jhapad mar diya and bache hue cash phad diye.
To ab dar lgta h kuch krne se. Mai kahi bahar nhi jata hoon ghumne ya kuch khane. Aaj tak restaurant nhi gya. Bs ek bar dosto ke sath movie dekhne gya hoon Oppenheimer. Ek do bar cafe me gya hoon dost ke sath. Sab apne hi paiso se pay kiya hoon. Pocket money ka concept hi gayb h mere ghr me. School wale goa trip pr legye but 15k mai mangne se ghabra rh th to nhi gya.
Ab weird sa introvert bn gya hoon. Dost birthday party pr ya ghumne bulate h to mai nhi jata kuch bahana krdeta hoon. Female interaction to hai hi nhi ab.
Ek din meri didi ka pata nhi sayd result acha nhi aaya th to bola ki books road pr lejakr jala de. Mai chhota th tab.
Aaj to bole meri mummy ko ki mujhe ghr se bhaga de.
He never accepts constructive critisism about him. For him other's opinions and views dont matter. He only boasts how much money he has spent on education and shit.
Heck he never gave his BA exam himself. Someone else wrote instead of him.
Ky aisa behaviour acceptable bhi hai aaj ki society me? I think he's psychotic and needs a psychiatrist. Like wtf man.
Kahi se koi support nhi mil rh mujhe. Bs lg rh andar se toot gya hoon aur ab kuch nhi h jeene ko. Bs mera friend mujhe support kr rh kyuki uske bhi kam percentage aaye h. Atleast uske ghr wale jyada understanding h and samjhte h ki yeh the end nhi hai.
Mera dream h Germany me pdhna. Mai kuch projects banaya hoon ek dost ke sath apne coding skills se jisse mujhe kafi acha revenue mil jata h. To friend EU ka hai and we've been in contact for long time now.
To ek saal yaha local college me pdh kr next year bachelors Germany ke liye apply krunga yeh mera plan th. Along with learning german language.
Bs isi hope se mai filhal jee rh hoon ki ek din yeh sapna pura hoga and mai finally yeh toxicity escape kr paunga. Mera wo dost financially help bhi krdega if funds ki kam pdegi to uss time. Papa ke to paise bhi use nhi hoga to bhad me jaye mai ja rh apne raste.
Bs aur kuch nhi kehne ko h

2024.05.13 06:27 allthedarkspaces Bloody Mary should be harmless, but...

Five girls stood in the upstairs hallway of the Worth home, pleading with their host to join them in the bathroom.
“It’s only a game!” The other girls egged her on.
“I don’t know,” Elizabeth replied with eyes averted.
“It’s a silly game to scare you! C’mon, please!!” One girl interjected named Alice.
Elizabeth thought really hard this time. She’d been friends with Alice for years, so she was the only reason she’d even consider doing a scary game like this.
“No one’s ever been hurt doing this?”
“No! Liz, I promise you it’s safe! You know it’s just a goofy urban legend, come on!”
She bit her lip for a moment, slowly giving in to her friend.
“Okay....let’s do it.”
Before long, the five girls had crowded in the upstairs bathroom with the lights off. Some giggled while others fidgeted around. Alice turned on the flashlight to her phone and aimed it into the mirror.
“Alright, girls! We have to say it at the same time, okay? Everyone ready?”
All girls nodded their heads in unison.
The light on Alice’s phone danced around the bathroom as they spun in circles three times, chanting “Bloody Mary” with each turn. They stopped, some giggling even more from the dizziness and tried to be still as they gazed into the mirror.
“I don’t see anything,” one girl whined.
“You have to wait,” Alice hissed back.
They all waited in eager anticipation, and soon were all very quiet. Elizabeth was on the verge of running away, but tried her best to be brave in front of her friends.
“Wait, did you see that?” Another girl stated, sounding quite serious.
“Shut up, you don’t see anything,” another chastised.
“No, really. I think I see something.”
“You’re not getting me with that. Can we go now?”
“Just wait....”
After another moment of silence, then....
“I see it!” A girl screamed in, making them all jump and run out of the room.
All five girls were soon back in Elizabeth’s room, huddled together.
“Alright, enough with the ruckus! Go to bed, girls!” The voice of Liz’s father bellowed through the door. At this, they got very quiet and whispered among themselves.
“What did you see?”
“I saw a woman behind us, a sixth person...”
“No, you didn’t!”
“I swear, I did!”
They all chatted on into the night, save for Elizabeth. She indeed saw something, but did not tell the others. Unlike the other girls, she did not see something bombastic or interesting. There was no ‘other’ woman in the room with them during the game. What she saw was so subtle that no one would take note of it.
Right before the other girls screamed and ran out of the bathroom, she was focused on her own reflection. Scared as she was, she only focused on her sullen, terrified face. And that was when she first saw her reflection doing something that she wasn’t. Whatever the other thing in the mirror was...
....it was smiling back at her.
In the upcoming days, their shared hysteria was a popular topic among other things. Yet, Liz remained quiet as she had been avoiding her own reflection during this time. It was only for a brief moment, but she knew whatever looked like her in the mirror wasn’t her.
After a week, the incident slowly slipped out of her mind and she chalked it up to being caught up in the moment. So she started using mirrors as she couldn’t avoid them forever, anyway.
While brushing her hair in the bathroom, the lights flickered and she took a deep breath . Everything appeared normal, so she continued brushing her hair until her reflection began acting of its own volition.
Stunned, she watched in silence as her reflection actually stepped out of view so that she no longer had a reflection at all.
“This isn’t happening,” she said to herself. “It’s not real, it’s not...
“What’s going on?” A voice startled her from the hallway. “Everything alright, Liz?”
Her father was peeking in through the crack of the door.
“Yeah...I’m fine. Just, talking to myself.”
“Okay, weirdo.” He chuckled, and went about his way.
She looked back to see that her reflection was normal again, as if it just snapped back into place.
For the next two weeks, Elizabeth couldn’t see her reflection without something strange happening. Even at school, her reflection would smile at her, wave, or taunt her in some manner. It was always worse at home, and one night the strange doppelganger had started trying to communicate with her.
“What do you want?”
The entity put her head into her hands, and began....crying?
Elizabeth watched in confusion as this thing had only terrorized her so far, and now it was crying. Maybe it was some poor spirit that was trapped, somehow.
“Did....something happen to you?”
Her reflection did not respond, but she saw something forming in its hands. Soon, its hands were covered in a red substance, and the reflection lifted her head to reveal blood trickling from its eyes. She suppressed a scream, and her doppelganger began writing on the mirror with its blood-soaked fingertips.
“Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary” was written across the mirror now.
“Please, leave me alone!” She yelled, not caring if her parents heard.
It shook its head, then wrote even more.
“You asked for it,” it wrote.
“No!”
The door banging made her jump, and her father’s voice called from outside the door.
“Liz? What’s wrong?”
“It’s okay...I, I slipped, that’s all!”
“Are you alright? Can you open the door?”
To keep her father from worrying any more, she unlocked the door and turned back to the mirror see that everything was normal once again. Her father put his hand on her shoulder and looked at her intently.
“Are you sure everything’s alright? You’ve been acting...strange lately.”
“It really is okay, dad. Just....being a teenager!”
“Yeah...I’ll say. Keep the strange to a minimum if you can, okay?”
He kissed her forehead and began to walk away when he stopped.
“Hey, Liz? Does this have anything to do with that game you and the girls were playing?”
“Huh, that? Oh, no no. Just some stupid kids game.”
She walked out into the hallway to join him, and just as she was leaving the bathroom she saw her reflection out of the corner of her eye. It was wagging its finger at her with a malevolent, shark grin.
The next day, Liz came home and was getting ready for a night out with her friends. As much as she hated it, she needed the large mirror in her hallway bathroom to prepare. Everything was normal until she started putting on lipstick.
Out of nowhere, her reflection threw down the lipstick and stared angrily at her. Frozen, she could only watch as her doppelganger stormed over to the reflection of her bathroom door and slam it shut.
And her actual door slammed shut.
“What-what are you doing?” She pleading tone was laced with dread. Whatever this thing had in store for her, it wasn’t good.
Her reflection returned to its position across from her and glared intently. Suddenly, the light in the room shifted from a soft white to a sickening red hue. The awfulness in Liz’s stomach churned, and it took most of her strength not to get sick. A heavy, unexplainable weight pressed on her and she struggled to catch her breath.
The doppelganger pulled its arm back and struck the mirror from its side. A large crack appeared, and the entity reached into the shattered glass from her world and methodically pulled out a jagged sliver. The two locked eyes as the reflection began slicing something into its arm. A burning sensation started in Elizabeth’s arm, but she was too afraid to look away from her twin.
When it was done with its awful act, the entity held its arm up for Elizabeth to see. With the words in reverse, she wasn’t sure what it said at frist. To her shock, she needed only to look at her own arm to see what the thing had written...“Bloody Mary.”
She tried to open the bathroom door, but it was held in place by an unseen force. Thinking quickly, she grabbed a plunger and used the wooden handle to jab at the mirror. With the crunch of the glass, she heard a pain-filled shriek. She quickly began destroying the rest of the mirror, and was finally able to open the door again.
Out in the hallway, it felt like a completely different space. It wasn’t heavy or oppressive, and she could breathe normally again. Once she regained her composure, she knew what she had to do. Going out to her father’s shed, she retrieved his hammer and spent the next twenty minutes destroying every mirror in her home.
Her parents came home hours later to find her asleep in her bed from exhaustion. Before even waking her, they saw the words carved on her arm and were immediately distressed. Elizabeth tried to make up a story about why she did it, knowing they would never believe. They could tell she was lying and questioned her relentlessly until she told them the truth.
Seeing that she was being truthful about something so impossible, they had her evaluated at a nearby psyche ward. She felt betrayed, being punished for telling the truth.
Yet, Elizabeth’s strange demise did not end there...
The young girl was actually relieved after she arrived at the psychiatric hospital, as she realized that there would be no mirrors available for patient’s safety. She thought it actually may be the only solution to her dilemma. Yet, she could not account for the darkness of man.
A new orderly had started his job there, one who reveled in messing with other people’s minds. This deviant learned of Elizabeth’s story and her strange fear, and so had an easy way to get a reaction out of her.
While the poor girl slept under heavy medication, he put a small mirror in her cell. He watched and waited for her to wake up, his phone ready to live stream the entire sick act. While making others miserable was a hobby of his, being internet famous was even more important. This was the perfect storm for him to achieve both of his goals. Yet, he could not have prepared himself for what happened that day.
The entire event was caught on his phone as he never stopped the live stream. The watchers of the video detailed a young girl in her cell waking up to a mirror in front of her. She began screaming at the sight, yelling for someone to get it out of her cell. The laughs of the orderly could be heard, followed by the awful comments degrading the poor girl as they were unaware of the girl’s condition.
Others commented for the orderly to stop, understanding that this was not an ordinary girl. The orderly responded only with jokes and scoffs, callous as he was. That is...until things got out of hand.
In the video, the young girl could be seen levitating off the ground with no explanation. The orderly and audience replied in a state of shock and awe, and the the girl dropped to the ground. The orderly dashed to the poor girl’s cell, swearing the entire way there. His focus was no longer on speaking to his audience as he realized that he may have cost himself his job and the safety of his patient.
He arrived at the girl’s cell and dropped his phone as he tended to Elizabeth. Somehow, the phone landed so that the rest of the events could be seen. It was strangely convenient, and many speculate that the whole incident was staged, yet police reports would state otherwise.
As the orderly tended to the girl, a form began to appear in the mirror. A red haze began to glow as a woman came in to view. The red light caught the attention of the orderly, and he gasped in shock at the sight. The woman had long, flowing black hair and blood streaming from her eyes.
“Who are you?” The man screamed, his eyes bulging out in terror.
“Oh, I think you know,” the woman replied and went into peals of dark, horrible laughter.
The laughter went on for an uncomfortable amount of time when the woman let out a shrieking, awful scream. The mirror exploded into shards of glass, and the orderly turned to shield himself with his arm. When it was over, the orderly looked back in disbelief and mumbled to himself. It was silent for a moment, then the patient stood up behind the orderly who was completely unaware. The girl’s hair covered most of her face, and all that could be seen was a devious grin and the glint of something sharp in her hand. Comments flooded the video for the orderly to look behind him, but they could only watch on in horror.
Without warning, the patient grabbed the orderly from behind and pulled his head back. She then dragged a jagged piece of glass across his throat, soaking him in his own blood.
The last moments of the video saw the orderly drop to the ground dead as the female patient quietly exited the cell.
The video was quickly taken down, as it was no longer a form of entertainment, but evidence of a horrible event. Police reports say that after Elizabeth left the cell, it was unknown how she managed to get out of the hospital. With all the security monitors she was never revealed exiting the ward or the building. The door to her cell opened that last time as if by some invisible force. Even stranger was after the police did a sweep of the psyche ward.
In the staffing area was a small bathroom with a mirror. The bloody shard of glass that killed the orderly was found resting on the sink, and the mirror was at a strange angle as if it had been disturbed.
To this day, Elizabeth has never been seen again...

2024.05.13 06:26 allthedarkspaces Bloody Mary should be harmless, but....

2024.05.12 22:34 Safe_Village_1886 AITA for telling my step mother "You can get another husband but i can't get a new father"

Hi everyone, this is my first time ever posting so please be gentle. There is a lot to read as this is a story of about a month.
FIRSTLY TRIGGER WARNING… TALK OF SUICIDE
Before the story let me give some background info: I am 20F, my parents got divorced when I was around 8. They both remarried. My father married my “step mom” in 2016. I put “step mom” in quotes because that woman was never motherly to me in any way.
She had her own daughter who is a couple months older than me. Her daughter (I’ll call her Sara, also 20F) has some behavioral issues, mainly autism. But we never got along because she would hit, kick, bite, anything, to me. Both in school and at home, and I was told she couldn’t control herself. But when you are in a private school of 20 kids. You can’t get away from each other. None the less, her daughter was never kind to me, and as a 8-12 year old kid you can’t quite understand why someone, Sara specifically, would treat you in such a manner.
As for my “step mom” who we will call sally, was never nice to me. She was very strict, and I was a hard to control raging kid because my parents got divorced and I had no control over anything in my life. I was mainly mouthy. (We tried therapy and that never helped anyone get along). Sally was very strict and blunt and often showed no emotion. Throughout the years I felt like my dad and sally got married for money and convinence. Their relationship was very business casual. Sally did not like me and would target me, I had more chores, I had higher expectations, and I soon had no alone time with my father. After my father and her announced their marriage I soon ended my 50/50 custody split and ignored my father. As did all of my siblings because no one liked Sally.
After i moved out and about a year and a half after their marriage, my dad and I reconnected and slowly built a bond, my step mother was never around when i would go for visits etc. she was never there to be around me ever again.
Now for the story….
I live on the west coast and moved approximately a year ago. I moved for work and to get a fresh start, as I am a RN. My family still lives in a small town on the east coast where no body leaves, and they live there their wholes lives.
My father was faced in February of 2023 to put his father who lived with him for 5 years into a nursing home. My grandparents, his parents, moved from idaho as they were in their 80s and were needing some extra care and not to live by themselves. My grandmother is still alive. My grandfather passed in November 2023. Which I went back to the east coast for a week to say my goodbyes, visit with my dad, etc.
January 23 It was 1030 in the morning and I got a phone call from a family friend. The conversation went like this “are you alone?”
“No im here with my boyfriend”
“okay, are you sitting down”
“yes what is wrong, who is dead”
“your dad died this morning”
“how did he die”
“He hung himself this morning. I’m so so so sorry baby. He loved you kids so much.”
I got on a plane 4 hours later. My worry was my brother and grandmother who lived in the house with him. This whole time, silence from my step mother. No comments. No answers. I got back to the west coast by midnight and got to hug my siblings. My mother’s side of the family (divorced) came to the house and had been sitting with my brother and grandmother all day. Cooking. Forcing people to eat. Comforting. It was the first time since my mom left the family home that it felt warm and full of life despite tragedy. My step mom was no where to be found. He killed himself on a tuesday, she had left for a business trip on sunday. I had spoked to my dad over the weekend. There were no signs. My brother and grandmother who lived with him noticed no signs.
My father texted my step mother, a neighborhood friend, and a family friend (our life long babysitter who everyone loves) that he loved us and to take care of my siblings and his mother. The family friend lives 20 minutes away, called the neighborhood friend, she went to the house and found his body. My family never saw the body, they saw him wheeled out of the yard in a body bag.
My stepmother came back to the east coast, (DC our airports are approximately 2.5 hours away.) she did not return home to the house for 4 days after his death. Her reasoning "she didnt want to come home to an empty house". Me, my 3 siblings, and their spouses were all waiting for her.
After sally returned home she banned my mothers side of the family from coming over and said if they stepped foot on the property, she would call the police for trespassing. After this comment I went to stay with my mother, and would visit during the day, but I refused to spend the night there. Come to find out, so did my step mother. She rented a hotel room down the street. After her return there was no funeral talk, just talk about switching the bills to her name and accounts to her name so she could still pay bills.
During this time she was cold and callace, showing no emotion. No tears, no emotion, actually she stayed in her room ignoring all of us. Lots of tears were shared between me and my siblings and my grandmother, friends etc. At this point, I had already taken off a week of work and had to send my boyfriend back to the west coast. About a week and a half we went to the funeral home to arrange for a funeral. The date was decided for 2 weeks after the date we went for the planning. I had to return home, i could not stay that long. Sally promised she would pay for me to come back for the funeral.
During this time my siblings and I were trying to get a hold of his will, lots of legal stuff, blah blah blah. We finally get a hold of the will, everything was left to sally. EVERYTHING. several lawyers told us so and there was no way to fight it.
I did not go back for the funeral, but was emailed approximately a week after the funeral, which was post poned again because everyone got COVID. I could not stand to be around her anymore. She made promises to take care of us, promised to give us some of his ashes, promised to let my brother keep living in the house, promised to take care of my grandmother. LIES ALL LIES.
she emailed all the siblings about a month later, telling us to clean out the house by March 31, get all of our stuff. etc. and stated we would all get some money from his personal accounts, and 1 life insurance policies. We get there, she refused to give us family heirlooms that belonged to my father, and refused to give us ashes. this is where I may be the asshole.
I was at my fathers house for basically a day to clean and get items that belonged to my dad. EVERYTHING I WANTED NO ONE GOT. We were all told no we couldnt take it. My step mom was burning some documents and by the fire and I walked over to her and ask about the ashes. She said "I am not giving you any. No one is getting them, that is the one thing I am keeping for myself." I sat there is silence, tears starting to form in my eyes and said "You know, you can always get a new husband, I will never get my father back" she said "that is uncalled for, you can leave before I call the police." I packed up and left. admittedly Sally is "hurting" too even if she never shows it. I can understand that the jab was mean, however I had been nice, let her hurt everyone around me and had kept my mouth shut for long enough. She deserved no more kindness in my heart.
Further background, she received everything, the house, cars, tools, tractor, golf cart, side by side, boat, trailers, camper. Just the house was listed for 620,000$. So she is loaded from his assets and plans to get rid of everything and keep nothing. ( house was paid off) She also makes a 6 figure salary, as did my father.
I went to contact her and apologize for my comment but I am blocked, blocked via phone, facebook, emails, everything. Needless to say months later I have received nothing but the items I managed to grab.
There is so much more but I want to keep it condensed as this is already long.
SHORT STORY:
My father committed suicide and my evil step mother kept everything for herself. When I asked for some of the ashes she told me no, so I responded with "you can always get a new husband, I cant get another father."

2024.05.12 21:53 jjelly_donutzz I don't know why I keep trying to talk to Mom about this...

Hey, everyone. It's been a while. It's Frankly_Sage on a new account in case some of y'all are wondering.
So, as a part of my PIMO to POMO journey, I've been making plans to find a good job and move out. I'm considering returning to college this fall to pursue something (somewhat) quick that I also find interest (automotive repair) and saving money to buy a passport (making money in any way I can like taking odd jobs mowing lawns and occasionally donating plasma and blood) because I plan to move, maybe even out of the country. Point is, I'm trying to save money to leave so I can support myself when I inevitably turn in my dissociation letter.
I think, because I'm making such big plans, I don't want to be alone. And of course, who does one trust more than the one who raised them? So occasionally, Mom (I think she crosses a fine line between PIMI and PIMQ) and I talk about things. I confide in her, but I'll admit, I feel really risky talking about certain things. Like after the meeting, I half-jokingly said about the talk, "Do you think I'd get in trouble if I posted this on Facebook: 'Far be it from me to question God, but isn't it kinda fucked up that he killed an innocent baby when David couldn't keep it in his pants?'" Mom bluntly said, "Yes." Point taken. Sometimes she does acknowledge that there are issues with the faith, but that it's best to leave it in God's hands. Which is ironic because he should have done something by now about how the brothers and sisters make occasional jabs at Mom for having sex with a worldly guy and having me.
But anyway, like I said, I think I just don't want to be alone because I'm making such big plans to leave, and Mom has always been the one person I could confide in and I know she won't rat me out to the elders. Still, I'm torn. I know she sees the issues, but I can't force her to see. And yet I can't leave her behind to fend for herself against the others. Should I just focus on myself before trying to talk her into it?

2024.05.12 16:19 lazyactor Constructing a mixup.

I am by no means the arbiter of Tekken but as I have played 2176 battles ive noticed a lot of people are getting jabbed out of there "mixups"
So short an sweet guide on how you can construct your mixups in the lab.
99% of moves are 10 frames fast so we will be using that as the base target speed to beat.
I used to main Heihachi and now I play Reina so I will use what I know best to construct my examples. My example below come directly from how I used to play Heihachi.
A true mixup situation is when either player has put the other into a state of disadvantage so severe they have no option but to block and guess, This is accomplished by using your positive frames or +frames to know which moves you have that will be safe to use without fear of interruption.
If your opponent can step your options or back dash away then even if you are at plus frames its not a coin flip its a rock paper scissors contest. Ideally for easy of application you seek to remove movement as an option an try to make them guess mid, low, plus frame reset situation or different mixup. Once stepping is involved you have to find moves that counter that to or your mixup will always have a glaring weakness that prevents its use in high level play.
When constructing your mix up you want to generally start checking its frames by having the opponent first jab ASAP after your mixup is applied and going through each option and noting which moves you can apply without getting jab interupted.
Its also a good idea to do the same things with the down jab or "dick jab" This high crushing fast special mid is the bane of many players mixups online. You definitely want to check to make sure they get countered when using it or what your options are to deal with someone shutting down your pressure with it.
You also need to account for movement options, most characters have powerful mid or low mixups and stances that crumble with movement.
As a base line most people agree 4 frames of a gap is enough to use movement to possibly avoid pressure. Some characters are better at movement than others so this requires so trial and error in real play against varied opponents to really hammer out, or a few hours in the lab with smallest girl characters and then special annoying ones like Ling who can use a stance to enhance a stepping animation.
I will now go through step by step how I created a simple mixup an checked if it was frame solid in most matchups. Once you understand all the little details of how to check the frames and what to check them against it will be easy to do.
Reina has a powerful 18-19 frame startup mid, f4 while slow leaves the defender in crouch at -2 disadvantage.
The fastest option from crouch is the crouch jab at 10 frames fast and special mid. Special mid means that if I duck I still block the mid. its not that important.
What is important is understanding that they will not return to standing during the attack and if they were standing they will crouch under most of your high options even if your high is faster than 10 frames when you are at advantage pressing your mixup. Not in every scenario but enough that you need to check it out yourself.
so my best option to beat a special mid when my move will at least trade with it is a strong mid.
Reina just so happens to have a 12frame wallsplatting mid in 1+2 that hit quite hard compared to a crouching jab.
12 - 10 = 2 the exact amount of frames the defender will be delayed by if they choose to push buttons instead of blocking.
If we both input our moves as fast as we possibly can they will both trade an it results in a favorable trade for the attacker.
To consider an option part of your mixup its need to at least trade in your favor with their fastest option.
1+2 is what I use to start every new match when I force them to block f4. Based on what happens here I determine how to mix them up later.
So we have a move that we know is fast enough to stop aggression but what about back dashing and side stepping.
In practice mode and against a few highly skilled players I discovered that side stepping either direction but generally my left resulted in an easy launch for the opponent.
To counter movement I would need plus frames of around 5.
I can jab since its faster if I suspect they will move, that would be a 4 frames of advantage just 1 shy of the 5 for most matchups. but most can still step a jab in that situation and a crouching jab shuts it down and leaves you -8 ish if you get hit by it. Forcing you to guess low or mid. Not ideal.
so instead I would rely on either a grab that is 12 frames to track the step and or I would step with them and either jab or f4.
The reason a grab is fine is it tracks to both side right now, if this changes my mixup has to change to.
I can also step and f4 as fast as possible, this exploits the weakness of a jab which is how easy you can step it. If they did crouch jab they are crouching and f4 has follow-up's which it lands on Croucher's.
Dont be afraid to consider moving yourself to avoid linear attacks and punish the opponent from trying to mash out.
However im moving before I attack and I am also open to counter hit moves using such a slow move after movement.
So in no way is this a true mixup, an example would be whenever you land a heat engager. Most heat engagers leave you point blank range at +17 frames. You can write a thesis with that amount of frames, most people know by trial and error that there is no hope of interrupting even some of your slowest moves.
A clear example that everyone has to know now is Eddie, Eddy has easy to land plus frame moves and punishes that leave him at major advantage in stance.
His low option is to fast to interrupt and tracks both sides.
His mid option is to fast to interrupt and launches.
Low can be blocked and launched.
Mid is -13.
other options are string with highs in them so I dont include such risky moves in a mixup.
Stepping isnt really an option because most of the time you are guessing at -6 frames, and the low option tracks both sides.
However this is a weak mixup and risky compared to the first example. because every time you guess right you get to hurt eddie and apply pressure yourself.
Many examples of different mixups and the characters vary in how strong they are, I firmly believe that for those dedicated enough you can find unique mixups no one uses online because no one has labbed all the crazy options in the move list.
In closing, I tried to make it as clear and easy to follow my logic as possible, let me know if anything needs more detail or clarification. I might also try and make a youtube video I will link later with live examples.
TLDR: constructing a mixup requires you to identify situations where you can use your fastest moves to force defensive behavior or damaging them for pressing buttons. You have to make sure you get into situations where crouching jabs at the minimum cant interrupt your options. Anything slower than that can be applied in the mixup is but shouldn't be your main option to check your opponent.
Extra tip: you can apply mixups anytime you land moves as long as you know how many plus frames you get on hit.
Take the plus frames on hit and minus them from the startup frames of your moves to see if you can get sub 10 frames.
Df1,1 is +7-8 on hit, I can use f4 but jabs beat it out in this situation, so after landing df1,1 I know I can enforce pressure and defense by doing a move like d2, which is 15 frames and wont be interrupted and has reward for counter hitting.

Costa Rica is a co-signer to an International Agreement called "SIRACUSA" It has long been observed by the American Association for the International Commission of Jurists (AAICJ) that one of the main instruments employed by govern ments to repress and deny the fundamental rights and freedoms of peoples has been the illegal and unwarranted Declaration of Martial Law or a State of Emergency. Very often these measures are taken under the pretext of the existence of a “public emergency which threatens the life of the nation” or “threats to its national security.” The abuse of applicable provisions allowing govern ments to limit and derogate from certain rights contained in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights has resulted in the need for a closer examination of the conditions and grounds for permissable limitations and derogations in order to achieve an effective imple mentation of the rule of law. The United Nations General Assembly has frequently emphasized the impor tance of a uniform interpretation of limitations on rights enunciated in the Covenant. 2024.05.12 08:33 Puidipuie Cole Spoke with Kendrick before the apology, according to Coolee

Coolee corroborates the rumor that Q spoke with Cole. Says Q hinted that it was deeper than just rap. Cole apparently also had a conversation with Kendrick. Drake took the apology personally, which accounts for the slight "jabs" Drake threw at Cole in Family Matters.
Coolee, a Chicago writer and rapper, was apparently tasked with keeping an eye on Kendrick's family living in Chicago.

2024.05.12 03:13 No_Wrongdoer_8148 The lord and the spider

I don't even know how to start this whole thing. I just need to get this off my chest, but it requires some backstory to understand. Maybe screaming into the void will help me order my thoughts, I don't know.
All the usual disclaimers, on mobile, not a native speaker. I am using my main account because I don't give a flying fuck if anybody recognizes me. Still using fake names tho.
Backstory:
In Germany we have Mittelaltermärkte (medieval markets) that are kinda like American Renaissance Faires, just set in an earlier time period. They also last only a weekend. There are vendors and acts and tournaments, and there are camps where people portray life at medieval encampments and visitors can interact, ask questions, take pictures, whatever. The “actors” are usually unpaid and just do it for fun. That's where my husband Henry and I were until yesterday. We had found a group we got along with, did a few markets together last year. There were:
My husband and I (Henry and Joanne) Rob - our lord Kathy & Amy - mother and daughter, commonly referred to as “the girls”
When we started out we had a discussion about how we wanted our group to work and we were in agreement that everyone would have an equal voice regardless of their (monetary) contribution, that we would be mindful of each other and lots of other things. What I'm trying to say is, we had no conflicts in any of this.
Then, last summer, Rob met Sheryl. At first, we thought she was great, enthusiastic, had so many ideas about how to bring our group forward. She was a little over-enthusiastic, we thought, but she would mellow a bit. Looking back now, it's incredibly obvious what was happening.
Suddenly, there was a discussion before every market, mainly about what to cook and money. Always started by Sheryl. At the market there would be more, about how we needed to be more authentic, sew our garb ourselves by hand, do medieval dance workshops, shit like that. She never attacked anyone directly, but made those underhanded comments like how annoying it was to cook for such picky eaters (bitch, before you turned up nobody ever cared about “authentic cooking”, I just suggested and mostly cooked things everyone would be able to eat) or how I always sleep so long, or how Kathy and Amy wouldn't join her dance thing. Rob used to stay out of these discussions, but he's not a fan of drama in general and also, this was his new girlfriend starting shit, so I kinda understand him.
Anyway, in October Sheryl invited all of us to her house, ostensibly to sew new garb together. Oh, and she and Rob were redoing the pond in her backyard, could Henry and I come a few days earlier to help with that? We did, because Henry gets on with Rob like a house on fire and didn't want to leave him hanging, but we were both kinda meh on Sheryl by then. So Henry spent three days emptying, cleaning and redoing the pond with Rob, and Sheryl's useless godson while I spent that time trailing Sheryl cleaning her house and killing any spiders we came across because Sheryl has a phobia.
Now, Henry and I had ordered the fabric needed for our new garb to be sent directly to Sheryl shortly before, it should have arrived on time but didn't. I didn't count how many jabs she made about that until Henry snapped and told her we didn't just have 300 € laying around at any time to order fabric willy-nilly, so drop it. She dropped it, but Sheryl is a vindictive bitch.
The girls arrived Saturday, also without fabric. They're not swimming in money either, they don't have any sewing experience and Amy has body image issues, so why Sheryl expected them to sew a whole garb in a day is beyond me, but that's water under the bridge anyway. She was pissed about that, and pissed about Amy, who had asked her to show a crafting technique and had watched tutorials beforehand, and Sheryl was pissed that Amy already knew what to do. Like, what?
Just to clarify about the fabric issue: Yes, planning a sewing weekend and then nobody having any fabric is annoying, but there were a ton of things we could have done, like pattern drafting, teaching the girls how to sew with scrap fabric, sew some tabards for guests like we had planned… It's not like the weekend needed to be a bust is what I'm saying.
Sunday was my birthday, we wanted to have a nice evening on Saturday and toast at midnight. But Sheryl, who had stayed up until 1 or 2 the previous nights, was so tired she had to go to bed at like 12:05, so of course Rob had to go to bed with her. The girls, Henry and I stayed up talking until 3 I think. And we ended up talking about Sheryl and how to approach the problems she was creating. At some point Sheryl came in in her sleep attire and said “Oh, I thought you had left the light on when you went to bed.” like, we weren't whispering or anything, she must have at least heard us, and since we stopped speaking when she came in, she is still convinced we were talking shit about her. When we got up the next day, my birthday was totally ignored and she had the audacity to be pissed when we wouldn't stay for lunch and rather go home to, you know, celebrate my birthday.
So all in all, not a stitch was sewn that weekend, the person who insists on authentic cooking is using a fucking thermomix at home exclusively (we had thermomix semolina, thermomix Bolognese sauce and something else I can't remember now), and the mood was bad.
Now, the week after she tried to reach out to me and I ignored her because I know my limits and didn't want to blow up on her if the conversation went the way I suspected it to. Not very mature, sure. The same week was Henry's birthday and she actually called to wish him a happy birthday, and proceeded to tell him how unhappy she was after the weekend, how she cried herself to sleep (boo hoo, managing your feelings is not our fucking problem, princess), how unfair his comment about money was because she spent over 300 € on food for us (I honestly don't know on what), how she spent three weeks cleaning the house (I would really like to know why I spent all that time in her fucking basement listening to her shriek if she was already cleaning for three weeks - and no, she does not live in a 25 room mansion), how we didn't do anything for her and nobody thanked her for cooking. Huh, I hadn't realized how insane that list sounds until I wrote it out like this. Btw, I helped cooking most of the meals, made sure to compliment and thank her for the meals and also thank her for the hospitality before we left, as did Henry.
In early November we were planning the next season and Sheryl decided to bring her godson's children with her to the first market. Twins, a boy and a girl, five or six years old. Now, one of the things we agreed on prior to Sheryl was no kids. Kathy and Amy both work with kids so don't want to at the weekend, and I'm just not a fan of small children. I like interacting with them in very small doses, like when we get visitors with children, but I emphatically don't want to spend an entire weekend with them. None of that mattered, no one talked to the rest of the group, the kids would join us for the first market of the season. Alright, fine, then I won't be there. Which is what I posted in the group chat, and I apologized if that came across as harsh, I just didn't want to start a discussion. I got into a little spat with Rob anyway because he took my words the wrong way, I took his the wrong way and it just spiraled from there. The main point of contention was that I said our nice little democracy seemed to be turning into a dictatorship and I wanted no part of it. Rob took that as me calling him a dictator, which wasn't my intention at all, but I agree it could be taken that way.
To make an already long story a little shorter, communication ceased for the winter, then Henry and Rob had a call where Rob made clear that he didn't really agree with many of Sheryl's plans either and they agreed that we all needed to have a talk at some point.
Then Henry decided to go to the first market despite the children, which was fine by me too, came back and told me he had a good weekend with the group and talked to Sheryl, who seemed at least receptive. But she expected an apology from me, though I still don't know for what exactly. And she told him that she had talked to Rob and he said if we didn't want to camp with them anymore, he wouldn't stop us.
Which finally leads us to yesterday.
So, on Wednesday we drove to our largest market so far, built the camp, interacted normally. I went up to Rob first, apologized for the group chat spat and explained I hadn't meant it the way he must have taken it, though I was still sorry. He hugged me, accepted my apology and said we should still talk about it at some point but there were no hard feelings. Then I thought I'd be the bigger person, apologize to Sheryl too, just to get this thing behind us. So I did, and she looked at me like I was dirt under her shoe and told me she didn't believe me, and how she was still so hurt about the way I acted back in October. Like, what? What did I even do? She also refused any offer to talk about it, saying we wouldn't have time for that, neither this weekend nor next. Somewhere in between there was also a jab about how Henry and I didn't wish her a happy birthday in January.
Her answer really threw me, and I admit my mental health is kinda shit in general, but… There was a lot riding on us all getting along, because Henry and I had been working towards earning money at markets, but we can't do it on our own right away (stupid, I know, but it looked so good in the beginning). And leaving the group means loosing good friends, and markets have been our main hobby for some years now, it just sucks all around. So I spent most of Thursday crying in our tent. Thursday afternoon when I came out she commented on how pale and bad I looked, and she even smirked a little. Friday morning we packed up our stuff and went home.
She came up to us while we were packing and asked what was going on. I told her she shouldn't need to ask, and she left for a bit. I was talking with the girls a bit later and Henry was loading stuff in the car when she came up again (I assume) to talk it out with me or whatever. I started shaking which is my usual response to adrenaline and I knew I would blow up if Sheryl said the wrong thing, so I asked Henry to make her go away. He asked her to leave it three times and she just wouldn't, coming closer and closer. So I got up, told her if she had any issues they would have to wait for God because I wasn't available to her anymore, that I was sick of her disgusting personality and to leave me alone and piss off. She looked like I slapped her but finally turned around and left.
Henry also talked to Rob before we left and he didn't know anything. The phone call between Sheryl and Henry and her baseless accusations, my apology… She told him nothing at all, and he said they had agreed before the market to let bygones be bygones and that the whole group would talk sometime this weekend. He didn't know she went against that either.
And the reason for all that bullshit? She's jealous or afraid of me, at least that's what Henry and I think. I'm half her age, I look better (sounds conceited, but it's just that the average 60 years old doesn't look as fresh as the average 30 years old), I'm talented at lots of crafts, and - I buried the lede here a little - Rob and I were flirting pretty heavily before Sheryl came into the picture. To clarify, neither of us was serious at all, it was part of our dynamic and Henry, who can get a little jealous, never had a problem with it. I don't know for sure, but it's the only reason that would make sense. It would also explain why when I teased Rob about the feminine moaning coming from his tent at night the first time Sheryl camped with us, the next night she was noticeably louder. Because she had him and thought I wanted him. So she had to get rid of me, and now she has done it. I'm over it, have probably been over it since November, but Henry is heartbroken because he considers Rob almost a father and he knows there's no way forward for us that includes Sheryl.
What lifts my spirits a little is knowing that consequences are looming for dear Sheryl. Rob is royally pissed, but he's too much of a professional to have it out with her in public, so there's a blowup happening between them on Sunday evening or Monday I expect. Because Sheryl forgot some inconsequential little things, like the fact that Rob considers us founding members of his group and close friends, and Henry especially is/was integral to Rob's future plans, because he's the most outgoing of all of us by far and has tons of contacts in the scene. Personally betrayal like that would be a dealbreaker for me, but I don't know Rob's stance (yet). Also, since this was such a huge event, our group didn't have our own spot but was invited by a larger group, whose members were really sad we left too, since we're generally nice and helpful people. And they definitely noticed that Sheryl is The Problem™, which will fuck with her reputation in the scene. Neither Henry nor I plan to hide why we left if any of our “market-friends” ask. I don't even need to make shit up to make her look bad. Reputation is so important in these circles, it might even cause certain organizers not to invite her. And she will know that we're the cause and not be able to do a damn thing about it.
I texted with Amy today, and saw some pictures. The mood in the larger group is a little down since we're gone, Amy and Kathy aren't happy (especially since Sheryl tried to start the sewing discussion again already) and Rob looks like he's aged ten years overnight and Amy said he's sad. Which doesn't make me happy at all, really, but it doesn't bode well for Sheryl which does make me happy.
For now all that's left is waiting to see if Rob is going to call Henry. Nothing else I can do right now.
