Everything you could ever want to know about cardmaking in one easy to follow place-I found it!
When I was googling for an answer to a card making specific question I found a link to the scrapbook.com website and if you click on their menu, then blog, then articles, it has the answers and guides to every question known to man. They also have a forum for asking questions, and a place where you can find inspiration and see exactly what products were used and post yours! It’s a true wealth of knowledge. I’m not affiliated in anyway with them, I just wanted all the beginners to the seasoned experts to know this was available.

2024.06.07 13:50 Numerous_Bull 5 Inspiring Uses of Translucent Vellum Paper in Cardmaking

Vellum paper, with its rich history and unique texture, has long been cherished by artists and craftspeople. Originally made from animal hides, this parchment-like material has evolved over time into a more modern, vegetarian alternative. Amongst the various types of vellum paper available today, translucent vellum paper stands out as a versatile choice for cardmakers. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore what vellum paper is, the differences between it and regular paper, and delve into five creative uses for translucent vellum paper in cardmaking.
What is Vellum Paper?
Vellum paper is a thin, lightweight sheet typically made from cellulose or cotton linters. Unlike regular paper, vellum is not completely opaque. Instead, it possesses a translucent quality, allowing light to pass through it partially. This translucency is what makes vellum so versatile for cardmaking. Vellum sheets come in various sizes, with A4 being a popular choice, and can be found in both transparent (completely clear) and coloured varieties. Coloured translucent paper offers a vibrant way to add pops of colour while maintaining the see-through effect.
What is Translucent Vellum Paper Used For?
Translucent vellum paper finds applications in a wide range of creative pursuits. Here are some of its most common uses:
Cardmaking and Scrapbooking: Vellum is a popular choice for card overlays, creating layered effects and adding a touch of mystery. It's also perfect for vellum envelopes, pocket inserts, and photo overlays in scrapbooks.
Invitations and Announcements: Vellum adds a touch of sophistication to invitations and announcements. You can use it for outer sleeves, layering over printed cards, or creating elegant pockets for inserts.
Mixed Media Projects: Vellum's versatility allows it to be incorporated into mixed media projects like altered art and collage work. Experiment with stamping, embossing, and heat foiling on vellum to create unique textures and effects.
Packaging and Gift Wrapping: Transparent vellum paper makes beautiful and eco-friendly gift wrap. Add a touch of personalization with hand-written messages, stamped designs, or embellishments attached to the vellum.
Understanding the Differences Between Vellum Paper and Regular Paper
Compared to regular paper, vellum paper offers several distinct advantages:
Texture: Vellum paper boasts a luxurious, velvet-smooth surface due to its fibrous structure. It provides an excellent base for intricate designs, embossing, and calligraphy. Durability: Known for its strength and resilience, vellum can last hundreds of years without deteriorating when properly cared for. Absorbency: Vellum absorbs ink deeply, resulting in bold lines and vivid colours. Transparency: As previously discussed, translucent vellum allows varying degrees of light transmission, opening up new possibilities for layering effects and visual interest.
Now, let's explore five creative ways to incorporate translucent vellum paper into your cardmaking endeavours:
1. Layered Beauty: Enhance Dimension and Intrigue
One of the simplest yet most effective uses of vellum paper is for layering. By placing a vellum sheet over your card base or other elements, you create a subtle diffusion of colour and add depth to your design. This technique works beautifully with both coloured vellum paper.
Classic Layering: Cut a piece of vellum slightly smaller than your card base. Stamp design onto the vellum, then layer it over your card base. The design will be softened by the vellum, creating a more ethereal look. For added interest, try heat embossing your design on the vellum for a raised, tactile effect.
Double-sided Surprise: Take your layering a step further by using vellum on the inside of your card as well. Here, you can create a peek-a-boo effect by stamping or writing a message on the vellum before adhering it to a coloured cardstock insert. When the recipient opens the card, the hidden message is revealed.
2. Dreamy Diffusion: Watercolour Magic with Vellum
Vellum paper is a fantastic partner for watercolours. Its translucency allows the vibrant colours to be softened and diffused, creating a dreamy, ethereal effect. Here are two ways to use vellum with watercolours:
Watercolour Wash Background: Lightly adhere a piece of vellum to your card base. Using watercolours, create a soft wash of colour over the entire vellum sheet. The colours will be diffused by the vellum, creating a subtle and romantic backdrop for your card elements.
Vellum Watercolour Accents: Instead of using vellum for the entire background, create individual watercolour elements on separate vellum pieces. Let them dry completely, then adhere them to your card base for a touch of delicate, translucent beauty.
3. Light it Up: Vellum Windows and Illumination Techniques
Vellum paper's translucency makes it perfect for creating windows and light effects on your cards. This technique adds a touch of magic and intrigue, especially when paired with patterned papers or elements that shimmer.
Faux Stained Glass: Die-cut intricate window shapes from coloured vellum paper. Layer these vellum windows over a piece of metallic cardstock that will peek through. This creates a stunning faux stained-glass effect, perfect for elegant or religious-themed cards.
Hidden Illumination: Cut a small window shape from your card base and layer a piece of vellum behind it. On the inside of your card, adhere a small LED tea light (battery-operated) so that it shines through the vellum window when the card is opened. This creates a magical, illuminated surprise for the recipient.
4. Etched Elegance: Vellum and Dry Embossing
Dry embossing adds a beautiful raised texture to your card elements, and vellum paper is a fantastic medium for this technique. The translucency of the vellum allows the embossed design to show through subtly, creating a sophisticated and elegant look.
Embossed Vellum Overlay: Cut a piece of vellum slightly larger than your card base. Use a dry embossing folder to create a detailed design on the vellum. Layer the embossed vellum over your card base for a soft, yet striking, effect.
Embossed Vellum Accents: Instead of embossing the entire vellum sheet, use smaller embossing folders or dies to create individual embossed vellum embellishments. These can be adhered to your card base or other elements for added texture and dimension.
5. The Power of Print: Translucent Paper for Printing
Many vellum sheets, particularly A4 vellum sheets, are compatible with inkjet printers. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for incorporating text, images, and patterns directly onto your vellum.
Printed Vellum Overlay: Print a message, sentiment, or even a small image onto a piece of vellum. Layer the printed vellum over your card base for a unique and personalised touch.
Vellum Envelopes: Take your card presentation a step further by creating custom vellum envelopes. Print a decorative pattern or a simple message directly onto A4 vellum sheets. Cut and fold the vellum to create custom vellum envelopes. Cut and fold the vellum to create envelopes that showcase your message or pattern even before the card itself is opened.
Conclusion
Vellum paper, in all its coloured, transparent, and A4 sheet glory, is a versatile and beautiful addition to your cardmaking supplies. With a little creativity, you can use vellum paper to add dimension, create light effects, showcase watercolours, and incorporate text and images directly onto your cards. So, the next time you reach for cardmaking supplies, don't forget the power of vellum paper! With its ability to transform and enhance your designs, vellum paper will become a go-to element in your cardmaking repertoire.

2024.06.07 04:06 minipoptarts What are some gift ideas for a 1st year relationship anniversary?

(I hope my boyfriend doesn’t see this post 😳)
I tried finding a subreddit to post this question to, but my question goes against those subreddit’s guidelines… so I’m posting it here.
Hi guys! Next month, it’s me (22 yrs) and my boyfriend’s (23 yrs) first year relationship anniversary. I’ve looked up ideas online but they were either too traditional for us, or the ideas were kind of cringy… like pop up card flowers, glass tumblers, blankets, etc.
And the ideas I tried coming up with didn’t feel that meaningful or not enough. I thought of Build a bear a digitized photo frame a scrapbook.
I can’t come up with any ideas. If you guys need any more details, we are both into
New Jeans (Kpop group), Pokémon, Formula 1, Hangyodon (Sanrio character), board games, video games (though our genres of games differ.)
thank you for your time!

Scrapbook cards. For when there isn't a greeting card that can express how you feel about that person.
Just creating your own cards is so much better than trying to pick out the perfect card at the store. I looked through so many and non of them really says what I want. So I took the liberty of making my own. It can be simple and cute and more creative. It can be more meaningful and more personal to that person.
The back is blank so you can write whatever. I know there are blank cards out there but sometimes the cover of it just doesn't do it for me.
I hope you love this idea.

Hey guys. My friends are getting married. I was going to make them a card with all our friends leaving a nice message on it but realize it might be better to make a scrapbook with photos and kind words with memories spread out through the book.
I'm having trouble finding a place that makes scrapbooks with words lol. Plenty of places do pictures. Do you guys know where I can get my scrapbook idea made? Or ordered online?

2024.06.03 11:37 nichestoryeu Sentimental Father's Day Gifts to Show Your Love

Sentimental Father's Day Gifts to Show Your Love
Father's Day is a time to celebrate the incredible dads in our lives—the men who guide us, support us and make the world a little brighter with their dad jokes (corny as they may be!). But finding the perfect gift can be a challenge. This year, step away from the usual tie or mug and explore the realm of sentimental gifts that truly show your love and appreciation.
https://preview.redd.it/pbg5xze2ub4d1.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a726cd6df1ac6d15ae4f482caac8d5f35c7ea2d

Why Sentimental Matters

Let's face it, dads are notorious for downplaying their needs and wants. A generic gift might be met with a polite smile, but it won't leave a lasting impression. Sentimental gifts, on the other hand, tap into the emotional connection you share with your dad. They're a way to express gratitude for his presence in your life and create lasting memories.

The Ultimate Father's Day Gift Guide

Now, let's dive into some unique Father's Day presents that go beyond the ordinary. This guide offers a range of ideas, catering to different personalities and budgets.

1. The Storyteller's Touch: Personalized Memoirs and Keepsakes

  • The Legacy Letter: Write a heartfelt letter expressing your love and appreciation for your dad. Share your favourite memories, funny anecdotes, and the lessons he's instilled in you. This personalized memoir will become a treasured keepsake he can revisit for years to come.
  • The Photo Album Chronicle: Gather photos that capture special moments you've shared with your dad. Create a scrapbook or photo album, adding captions and personal touches that bring the memories to life.
  • The Engraved Keepsake Box: Find a beautiful wooden box and have it engraved with a special message or inside joke. This box can store cherished mementos, letters, or photos.

2. Experiences that Bond: Shared Activities and Adventures

  • The Foodie Father-Child Duo: Does your dad love to cook? Plan a cooking class together where you can learn new skills and create delicious meals side-by-side. Alternatively, explore a local food tour and indulge in culinary adventures together.
  • The Thrill-Seeker's Playground: If your dad is an adrenaline junkie, consider a gift certificate for an activity you can both enjoy. Think skydiving, white water rafting, or a weekend getaway with an adventurous twist.
  • The Nature Enthusiasts' Retreat: For dads who appreciate the outdoors, plan a camping trip or hike in a scenic location. Pack a picnic basket, stargaze under a clear sky, and reconnect with nature together.

3. Gifts for the Distinguished Gentleman: Grooming Kits and Niche Perfumes

  • The Ultimate Grooming Kit: Curate a selection of high-quality grooming products tailored to your dad's needs. Consider a shaving set, beard maintenance essentials, or a luxurious skincare regimen.
  • The Scent of Sophistication: Ditch the generic cologne and explore niche perfumes that cater to his unique preferences. Independent perfume houses often offer unique blends and personalized consultations. Look for a fragrance that complements his personality and leaves a lasting impression.

4. The Tech-Savvy Dad's Delight: Personalized Gadgets and Subscriptions

  • The Smartwatch Legacy: Many smartwatches allow for custom engraving. Get one inscribed with a special message or a nickname only you two share. These functional gifts offer a sentimental touch and enhance his daily routine.
  • The Subscription Box Surprise: Subscription boxes have become a popular choice for personalized gifts. Find a box that caters to his interests, be it coffee, grilling accessories, or curated reading material. The element of surprise keeps things exciting throughout the year.

5. The Gift of Time: Quality Moments and Shared Meals

  • The Unplugged Getaway: Plan a weekend getaway where you can disconnect from technology and truly connect. Spend quality time together, share stories, and create new memories.
  • The Sunday Brunch Tradition: Start a tradition of taking your dad out for brunch every other Sunday. This dedicated time allows you to catch up, share laughs, and appreciate each other's company.
Remember, the most valuable gift you can give your dad is your time and attention.
Bonus Tip: No matter what gift you choose, present it with a handwritten card expressing your love and appreciation. This personal touch will make even the simplest gift truly special.

Final Thoughts

This Father's Day, go beyond the expected and choose a gift that reflects your unique bond with your dad. By tapping into sentimentality and shared experiences, you'll create a gift that he'll cherish for years to come.

Update on anniversary card with bonus jumpscare
He wouldn’t stop giggling when he opened the card with cringe inside message for our 8 year anniversary.
Every birthday/Christmas/anniversary I put a “jumpscare” image at the back and this time it was Elminsters time to shine.

2024.05.31 01:23 a_skelton The Shimmer, V.

The Shimmer, I. The Shimmer, II. The Shimmer, III. The Shimmer IV.
Sara and Ian clung to the darkness like dew drops to leaves in the early morning, but it was anything but morning. It was the dead of the night and they had finally arrived at the eerily still and silent apiary on the outskirts of campus. Ian had already grown accustomed to wearing no bee suit, as most of the other bees had now retreated inside their hives for the winter.
Sara, dressed in all black, following Ian's instructions, chose not to don her protective gear this time either - a prudent choice considering the patrolmen that were present, making their rounds around the lake to the west of the apiary. Their bee suits would stick out like white paint on a black canvas, which this night was - a moonless night, with only the stars and the light of antique isolated lamps which were sparsely spaced, dotted along the perimeter of the outskirts of campus to light a completely deserted path.
Sara kneeled down and bowed her head at the same time Ian did. The giant honeybee hive gave its singular shimmer - permission.
They slowly and cautiously made their way to the base of the giant tree with sprawling arms, where the hive loomed large over their heads and sat with their backs against its enormous trunk.
A deep calm washed over Sara, a calm she had never knew she wanted or needed. She had experienced this sensation before on her trips with Ian, nervously at first, and now she had grown to look forward to their long journeys to the outskirts of the university campus to receive their nightly prize.
Not even the nipping cold of fall nights reached them once they were in the bosom of the behemoth tree and the hive. Sara felt the warmth wash over her, remarking to Ian after her very first experience, that "It was like sinking into a steaming hot bath on frosty day."
The low and rhythmic humming of the hive gently lulled Sara into familiar meditative state. She remained aware, but only just to keep track of the time, which seemed to pass much slower once she was "at home" under the great branches of the tree.
A steady pulsing of buzzing slowly gave way to a deep drone that became constant as the world itself disappeared behind her newly closed eyes, and she began her communion.
She replayed the events from the day in her memory starting from the time she woke up:
8:00am - Alarm goes off. I get up out of my bed and climb down the ladder of my dorm bunk, and slip into my bath shoes, grabbing my towel, and head to the showers.
8:30am - I am sitting in the meal hall having breakfast and reading over my notes for biology class. I am eating slices of green apple, an egg over easy, and two small pieces of white toast, with iced coffee.
10:30am - I am getting out of class with Ian and we're going to our usual spot at the café. I order iced coffee with 2 pumps of vanilla with two packets of honey, and Ian orders a medium coffee, with sugar. We discuss our trip tonight, keeping watchful eyes so no one hears about the new abilities we have that we share with each other.
10:45am - We're out in the quad and I swear I can hear the students whispering from *inside* the café, even though we are on the far side of the quad by the cherry blossom trees. Ian tells me his dreams are getting more violent and scary. His last dream even came true, Tracy's face was barely recognizable after the chemical burn. We both know it is because we have been communing with the hive, but still don't know how or why we suddenly have better vision or hearing, and now Ian is having premonitions. I tell Ian about how I barely even need to sleep anymore and that my knee that I injured playing varsity soccer in high school hasn't bothered me at all. I can even run around the campus track. My last mile time was 4:23:12 minutes.
11:15am - I'm in the library studying with Ian when we overhear a conversation about Daisy. Her parents are suing the school for negligence. The investigation is still ongoing.
12:30pm - Lunch in the cafeteria with Ian, Amanda, Blake, and Krystle. We are discussing the recent changes in campus policy and how girls on the swim team are being escorted to and from the pool during practice. Amanda seems worried about the killer being another student and Blake is saying, Jake is absolutely guilty. Ian is quiet for most of it - I assume it is because Jake lives in the same frat house.
2:45pm - I'm back in my dorm and texting Ian about his feelings about Jake. He seems closed off, but that seems normal considering Jake was his fraternity brother. He says, he is just really tired and wants to take a nap before our escape tonight and will tell me if he has another premonition. I am tired from studying and all of the drama and just want a break from it all, so I go for a run along the campus trail that follows the perimeter of the school before curfew is enforced. I feel so alive, but also bummed. Running helps me escape a bit.
4:05pm - I make myself some instant ramen in our dorm microwave and talk with my roommates - Stacy and Monique, as we settle in for the night. Monique's boyfriend cheated on her with a freshman and Stacy is in hyperfocus mode on the new episode of Game of Thrones that came out this week. I can hear Monique's racing heart and blood rushing through her veins, and I somehow can sense what Stacy is about to say before she says it…her boyfriend Xavier and her are going to Comicon and I already know what they will be dressed up as. All of the stimulation is making me nauseous, so I put on my headphones and put on my Fleetwood Mac inspired playlist.
5:15pm - I was woken up by the girls wanting to order pizza from Tito's and I agree to chip in $10 for a large cheese pizza and a medium pepperoni. Monique and Stacy are venting about their classes. Monique is failing Organic Chemistry, despite her family being Chemists, her Indian father has threatened to cancel her credit card if she isn't top of class by winter break. She tried to tell him there was a murder on campus and another girl is permanently disfigured. Stacy cannot get over how little our history professor cares about the material - making a gun with her finger and her thumb pressed to her temple. Homework time.
9:00pm - The girls go out to yet another frat party - it's only Thursday. I don't know why they even go, the police are everywhere, so they are no fun anymore. I decide stay in bed thinking about everything that has transpired this semester, and how it could be possible to gain the abilities Ian and I have gained, and how we can figure out what is going on with the giant honeybee hive. I text Ian to see if he is okay and how his nap was. He responded that the frat party is at his house and that he was going to come over and to sneak him in.
9:30pm - I know he's here before he texts me. I can sense him. Once the coast is clear we head up to my shared dorm, passing Julia, who glares at me, seeing Ian. Julia and I have never liked one another, but she also has been caught with her boyfriend, Tyler. We don’t have to like each other to understand that we have a silent agreement - love matters.
12:00am - We just got done doing...it. I love him, and I think he loves me, but we never say it - it's just understood. We nip across the dorm hallway to the showers to don our midnight uniforms.
Sara opened her eyes and felt the steady vibration humming through her veins start to dissipate and turned to look at Ian who was also coming out of his communion.
They made eye contact and then looked up at the hive to witness it: The hive erupted in an spectacular ephemeral shimmer. Wave after wave, each one in a different color until it reached ultraviolet and then, went dark.
Ian helped Sara get up from her cross-legged position by offering his hand, and Sara quietly brushed off the dirt stuck to back of her black jeans.
As they both surveyed the lake, the woods, and the way back, a dark figure with no flashlight, darted away from the tool shed that housed the bee suits and took off across lawn toward campus.

2024.05.30 19:27 witchwayward Advice Needed! 3-Year Anniversary Scrapbook

Hello!
This is my first post on Reddit. My (25F) and my boyfriends (soon to be 25M) 3rd anniversary is in 1.5 months. I want to hand-make a really nice scrapbook as a gift (the photos/theme would be our past 3 years together) but I have not made a scrapbook since I was very young. I’ve seen a lot of binder-like scrapbook designs on Amazon/Etsy where you put the photos into plastic “slots” and attach them to 2-3 ring binders, but that is NOT what I’m looking for. I’d really like to hand make a scrapbook (ie printing photos out, writing little notes and poems, including ticket stubbs, drawings, etc etc). I have no idea how to go about this. Any and all advice is very much appreciated — how to organize a nice layout, what papecard stock is best to use, how to include photos/other items without making it feel lumpy from the glue/tape, what material I should use for binding/if I should purchase a nice proper binding/where I could purchase proper binding… I just have no idea where to start! Again, any and all advice is appreciated — thank you!

2024.05.30 15:11 Sweet-Count2557 Where To Travel With A 2 Year Old?

Where To Travel With A 2 Year Old?
Where To Travel With A 2 Year Old?
Traveling with a two-year-old can be both an exciting and daunting experience. But if you plan correctly, it can also be the most rewarding trip of your life! With careful preparation and knowledge of the best places to go, you and your family can create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, there are so many amazing destinations perfect for exploring with young children; all you need is some guidance on where to start. We've got just the thing – read on to discover where To Travel With A 2 Year Old?
Let's get started on planning your next big family vacation full of exploration, learning, and fun!
Choosing The Right Destination
Traveling with a young child can be both challenging and rewarding. For parents looking to take their 2-year-old on an adventure, it's important to choose the right destination that will make the trip as enjoyable for everyone involved as possible.
When selecting your destination, consider how easily you'll be able to get around with a toddler in tow. Are there plenty of public transportation options? Can you walk or bike to most places instead of having to drive everywhere? Also, think about what activities are available nearby – is there a park, beach, or playground where your little one can run off some energy?
Don't forget to pack all the essentials when taking a vacation with your 2-year-old. Bring enough diapers and wipes so you don’t have to worry about running out halfway through your trip, plus extra clothing in case any messes happen along the way! And if you're flying somewhere far away, bring snacks and small toys they can play with on the plane ride too.
With these tips in mind, find the perfect spot for your family's next great escape - it won't be long before everyone is ready for another round of wanderlust!
Planning Ahead For A Stress-Free Trip
When traveling with a two-year-old, it's important to pack appropriately and plan ahead. Bring items that keep them entertained, such as books and toys, as well as comfortable clothes and plenty of snacks. Research child-friendly attractions in the area you're visiting, such as parks and zoos, so you know what fun activities to plan for your little one. Make a flexible itinerary that allows for breaks and downtime - you don't want your little one to get overwhelmed and cranky during your trip!
Pack Appropriate Items
When embarking on a family trip with your toddler, packing can be overwhelming.
Don't fear, childproofing tips and comprehensive packing lists are here!
Make sure to bring along items that provide comfort for the little one - think snacks, diapers, extra clothes (just in case!), and their favorite toy or book.
If you're flying, consider bringing items such as headphones and portable toys that will keep them occupied.
Before leaving home double-check basic safety needs like outlet covers and cabinet locks so you don’t have to worry while away from home.
With all these steps taken care of, you'll find yourself ready and raring to start your vacation stress-free!
Research Child-Friendly Attractions
Now that you've got your packing essentials, budgeting tips, and childproofing checklist sorted out for the trip, it's time to start researching some of the best attractions for your little ones.
Look online or ask friends and family in the area to find fun places they recommend! You can even look into deals on tickets beforehand so you don't break the bank during your vacation.
Most cities have plenty of activities tailored specifically towards children like museums, zoos, botanical gardens, and amusement parks - something every kid will love!
With a bit of research, you'll be able to keep both yourself and your toddler entertained without breaking the bank.
So get planning now and make sure this vacation is one full of lasting memories!
Make A Flexible Itinerary
Now that you've got your packing essentials, budgeting tips and childproofing checklist sorted out for the trip, it's time to make a flexible itinerary.
Having an open schedule will give you flexibility when unexpected events occur or if your little one gets tired of sightseeing early on in the day.
You don't want to be stuck with a strict schedule and miss out on something fun!
While researching attractions, also look into restaurants and other places where you can grab a bite to eat - or even just take a break from all the excitement.
Make sure you leave some room in between activities so there's no rush getting from place to place.
This way, both parents and kids can enjoy their vacation stress-free!
Making The Most Of Your Vacation
Exploring the world with a two year old can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it also requires some preparation.
Packing light is essential - try to limit yourself and your little one to just the essentials. Consider comfortable clothes that are easy to layer, sturdy shoes for outdoor exploration, and plenty of snacks! And don’t forget the sunscreen and hats for sunny days.
Budgeting wisely will make your journey much more enjoyable. Look into family-friendly accommodations like Airbnb or Homeaway for short-term stays which often provide amenities such as kitchenettes so you can save money by cooking meals in instead of eating out every night.
Research free activities at your destination before you go, too – many cities offer museums or parks where children can play without spending any money at all!
Now that you're well-prepared and ready to explore, off you go! Have a wonderful time making memories with your loved ones.
Safety Considerations For Young Children
When it comes to traveling with a two-year-old, safety is of the utmost importance. After all, children are more prone to accidents and misadventures than adults when they’re in unfamiliar places.
But just because you have a little one along for the ride doesn’t mean you can't still enjoy your vacation! With proper planning and preparation – plus packing supplies like extra snacks and kid-friendly activities – you can make sure everyone has an enjoyable time.
To ensure your child is safe during travel, remember that accommodations need to be childproofed as much as possible before exploring new sights. This means checking all outlets, tying up blind cords, removing sharp objects from reachable surfaces, and inspecting any furniture that may pose a hazard if climbed on or played around.
It's also important to pack plenty of supplies like diapers and wipes since these items might become hard to find at times depending on the location. And don't forget about sunscreen: even if the weather does not seem sunny outside, UV rays can still cause sunburns!
By taking these precautions into consideration while making memories abroad with your toddler, you'll be able to guarantee a safe trip for everyone involved - without sacrificing an ounce of fun.
Capturing The Memories
Every family vacation with a toddler should be filled with fun, adventure and lots of memories. To make sure you have the best time possible - and capture it all for future generations - here’s what to think about before departing:
Documenting Experiences – Make sure your camera, phone or other device is fully charged so that you don't miss out on any moments! You can also bring along extra batteries or portable chargers if needed. Don’t forget an SD card to store photos and videos, too.
Packing Essentials – Toddlers are always changing their minds and fussiness levels, so pack enough snacks, drinks and changes of clothes (in case they dip in a puddle!) And while everyone needs some down-time during a trip, packing activities such as books, puzzles or toys will keep them busy when needed.
Make Safety A Priority – Be prepared by bringing safety items like sunscreen (for sunny days) and jackets (for cooler weather). Always ensure that baby gates are locked at night to avoid those sneaky middle of the night explorations! Lastly, never leave home without first aid supplies just in case.
Create A Scrapbook– When planning your journey back home from your travels together create scrapbooks for each child so they can look back fondly on their experiences many years later! You can fill these with pictures taken throughout the trip as well as souvenirs collected along the way — this could include tickets stubs from attractions visited or postcards sent from places explored…the possibilities are endless!
When traveling with a toddler there's no doubt that things may get messy but having a plan in place helps minimize stress and ensures great times had by all! So grab your bags and head off into new adventures knowing you're ready for anything!

2024.05.29 13:51 blueishbeaver What's On - Thurs Fri Sat Sun (Mostly Fri-Sun) - Reconciliation Week - CHECK IT OUT!

Hello Brisbane!

It's National Reconciliation Week and apparently it's International Running Day or Week or something, I don't know.
Please take a moment to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live.
Heaps on. The Gig Guide will be posted tomorrow, meanwhile, enjoy all the city has to offer with this exhaustive list of fun shit to do. As always, I'm just putting together lists and some people really put nothing on their event pages. It's up to you to follow up and check out.
This takes a while to put together so please, donate to my PayPal. Or not. Up to you.

2024.05.29 04:37 856077 Did we deserve the treatment we got for leaving an event and doing an irish goodbye?

I’ll make this as short as I can while leaving out some of the details for privacy sake.
Partner and I have been together 6 years, living together for 4. We go to every one of the family events on her side, we always show up with a card full of money and walk around connecting with everyone. Her side of the family is constantly having “something” that we feel guilted to attend and it does get draining, but I do it for my partner.
Anyways, my partners adult cousin whom she’s not even very close with, was having their daughters first communion. This clashed with other reservations and plans that we had made months prior, so she told her mom that we wouldn’t be staying the full time but we would be there at the church and to give them our gift and say goodbye.
MIL and SIL were PISSED. MIL was passive aggressive with a nasty little fake smile, as she lightly patted me on the back, through a condescending laugh to assure me “don’t worry, you’ll still make your plans”. SIL sat there and in front of a table of others started badgering us about changing our plans/cancelling our reservations etc. Which was incredibly rude and we were put on the spot. It was gross.
Anyways, as the buffet opens in the party space, we decide now is a good time to quietly leave and not make a huge show of it. We had already put our gift and card for the baby on the gift table.
Well, let me tell you this almost started an all out bullying campaign against me for the next few months following this. MIL was cold and bitchy, very short and rude. Same with SIL. And funnily enough, BIL was the biggest passive aggressive bitch to me about this, and HE WAS NOT EVEN THERE!!! He didn’t show up for his own cousins event. He wasn’t working or any half decent excuse either. Just didn’t want to go.. but he somehow felt that he could be a total dick being holier than thou for us leaving early, again…at an event HE WASN’T EVEN AT. I actually show up to more of his family shit than he and his gf do, In 6 years I’ve met his gf twice, but I digress.
After this, suddenly they start mocking the way that I speak now right in front of me, look at eachother with a knowing look when I say anything at the dinner table, they are icing me out big time over this one instance. I couldn’t believe that these people really, really were that wound up because we couldn’t stay. Absolute madness imo. They’ve clearly got a ton of control issues.
So I need to know, is there any merit to this reaction? Was what we did a major no no? I’m on the fence now after all of their reactions to it. Sigh.

2024.05.27 16:46 thelastofthebastion Fuck it—I’m calling her this Saturday. I can’t go much longer with minimal contact.

I say Minimal Contact instead of No Contact because she still occasionally sends me Reels on Instagram.. I suppose the right thing to do is to at least watch them and add a little 😭 or 💀 Reaction. But we haven’t actually talked since last Monday.. and each day without our communion has been painful.
She broke up with me 11 days ago on the 16th.. told me that “I don’t think this is working” while on a date I, admittedly, poorly planned because are she said “This is a date I would plan for YOU”.
She cited her reasons for breaking up as “feeling like an accessory to you”, “not being considerate of my feelings/interests”, and that “I feel like you only like the idea of dating me”.
So, I committed the wrongdoing. Not intentionally, but of course—that doesn’t absolve me of consequence. So I’ve accepted what I’ve done, and have tried to develop from those points to rectify those feelings from ever arising again.
I feel like a significant reason as to why our relationship burnt out is because we moved too fast.. Our first date in February wasn’t even intended as a date from my behalf! I genuinely just invited her to hang out as friends because I wanted her company! Then we ended up kissing…
When I got home that night, I was heavily considering texting her telling her that I don’t think we should be in a relationship (yet)… but for weeks, I disregarded my intuition, my discipline and my rationality in favor of YOLO “Fuck it, let’s see what happens!” mentality. And we paid the price for it.
So two weeks after that, I officially asked her out. My reasoning was “We were clearly in love, so why not at this point?”
Then by May, I started fumbling. I think I started cracking under the stress and the pressure of the expectation of upholding a relationship. I felt like I had to meet (an admittedly imaginary) standard and started being concerned with planning the perfect date or saying the right things. I got so caught up in the idea of being a good boyfriend that I lost focus on what was really important: just being myself.. because that’s who she was attracted to in the first place. I made the mistake of prioritizing the label over the bond. Like, I started performing a role instead of truly engaging with her after a certain point.
I regret emotionally hurting her due to my misconception.. but I truly don’t believe our differences are irreconcilable in the slightest. I hope that we can move forward from this rough patch and reestablish our bond.
Her birthday is on the 19th.. but I’m out of the city during the week due to my internship, so I won’t be there to celebrate it day-of. But, what I’m going to do is make her a birthday gift tomorrow.. I’m going to print out photos of our favorite memories together, glue them into a collage, and top it off with a bouquet of yarn she had showed me back in March. Then, in the card, I’ll write “Life is worth living again”—the words she said to me after we had sex for the first time.
And I’ll only be able to visit on the weekends, so I have to call beforehand to see when she’ll be at the house so I can hand-deliver the gift.. perfect reason to reconnect!
I just hope she’s missing me as much as I miss her right now.. There’s nothing I want more in life right now than another chance to right my wrongs.
