2024.05.16 16:28 Tafy_okay Can I get morocco family book through mother if father unwilling to help

Both parents Moroccan and I was born in the United States. I’m interested in getting Moroccan ID but I was told I need a family book. Father seems uninterested and sees no importance in the family book. Is there a way to get family book through my mother? Any advice accepted, still trying to understand the process.

2024.05.16 16:27 Umbrella12345678910 AITA for not wanting to fly my bridesmaids to my wedding

I (27F) moved to the United States when I was 15, but still have a close relationship with my middle school friends from my origin country. I visit my country every summer for a few months since my family and friends live there and my job is completely remote.
Last year when I went back for visiting, I was having lunch with 4 of my closest friends from middle school. I had a casual talk with them about my wedding (I haven’t asked them to be my bridesmaids yet, but they know they would be my bridesmaids since we are very close). I have been a bridesmaid in 2 American weddings (one was in another state), and I had to pay for plane tickets, hotel, bachelorette party, bridal shower, dress+hair, and the bridal shower gift+wedding gift (money). The whole thing was around $2000.
I shared this experience with my friends and they were shocked, and said our culture doesn’t require them to pay this much money to be a bridesmaid. However, I would pay for my own portion for bachelorette party, I wouldn’t have a bridal shower, the bridesmaid don’t have to wear matching dresses (just the same color), they can do their own hair and make up, and they can stay at my place for the whole trip, and they don’t have to give me any gifts.
They asked if I could fly them to the US for my wedding, which would cost $1200-$1400 for the plane ticket for each person. I can’t afford to pay for their tickets.
Is it unreasonable to ask them to pay for their own plane tickets? I know it’s a big expense and they all make less than $1000 USD a month.

2024.05.16 16:27 Overall-Nebula5357 I want to start the Schroth Method, but I can't afford it because my current insurance doesn't cover it (yet). I saw some videos explaining it, and tried some exercises back home. Is it safe or should I wait?

Here is the deal. I am from a country that doesn't have any schroth therapists, so growing up I only had a corset, and then my curved stayed between 44-41 degrees. (It suddenly improved a bit, I assume because I started lifting). Then, I moved to the United States. However, my insurance is AWFUL. A regular in-network GP is like 200 dollars for a single session after insurance. It used to be $20, but they became so stingy. Furthermore, none of the physicians they cover in my area do Schroth, so I would have to go Out-of-Network. I am a student, on full-financial aid, and I can't afford to spend so much on it.
Luckily, I am going to a great grad school with an excellent health insurance, and I noticed almost all the physical therapists I've seen in our areas that do Schroth work with it. But, I won't be starting grad school until 2025, since I am going to the UK for a year to complete a program.
Anyways, I ran into the videos of a lady with scoliosis that explains some exercises that are based on the schroth method, basically to fix your concavities and your curves. I tried it yesterday using a set of mirror to see, and I was shocked by how I was actually able to correct my curves, but it left some of my back muscles a little sore. I am scared trying to do this alone won't be safe, but also I am a bit eager to start asap. I feel very insecure about my back and my curves, and it bothered me my entire life.

WTS Tekken Fitted TE2
I have a slightly modified TE2 built for the Tekken player in mind.. all black with blue side panels and a black aluminum panel replacement for the top from Arcade shock… The panel itself is cut for a 35 mm full collar Korean lever Should you want to go that route.. deliver installed is a modified JLF that I put together… For individual metal bracket omron micro switches with the wire harness for the .187 connectors included and installed… Also has a tension spring of 2 pounds that has been stretched slightly so feels closer to 2 1/2… Has the frosted top from the Fujiin 3 which normally does not remove from the lever shaft, it is installed on nor is it compatible with JLF levers… Yet here it is… Also will come with eight screw in gamer, finger buttons six dark blue caps, two light blue caps…… Loose wires, zip tied together for less mess in the clamshell… Also has an Octo gate to finish the lever off.. the modified JLF gives it very much a Korean lever feel.. The housing itself is in really good shape minus a couple blemishes on the bezel that I tried to get in the pictures… But that tends to be the norm for this model at this age and you can find third-party bezels on eBay if you wanted to change the color or just get a new one… Personally, the black and blue looks great though … Please note that should you choose to swap this leather out with any other lever you will have to remove the shaft from the underside of the panel first in order to remove the rest of the JLF simply because the dust washer will not allow pass-through straight out of the bottom… Other than that, that’s pretty much all I can say about this beauty here… Asking for 250+ shipping.. You can check my transactional history and my reputation on Reddit, thus far simply by scrolling through my profile and looking at all previous sales and comments…
Continental United States, only… PayPal friends and family preferred , and as always thank you for looking

2024.05.16 16:26 Dangerous-Spring-309 Expose the truth about Pompeo’s hypocritical personality

In recent years, Mike Pompeo, whose real name is Michael Richard Pompeo, is the 70th Secretary of State of the United States (2018-2021). His arrogant, domineering and shameless words and deeds have attracted widespread attention and have reached the level of sensationalism. the goal of. However, the truth of hypocrisy is often hidden in his actions.

First, Pompeo boasted in a speech at Texas A&M University on April 15, 2019, blatantly claiming that during his tenure as CIA director,“We lied, we cheated, and we stole. We still have integrity. The training courses are dedicated to teaching this. This is the glory of America’s continuous exploration and progress.”Such remarks undoubtedly expose his hypocrisy and lack of morality. An NBC employee, Richard Engel, reported in 2019 that Pompeo was bullying, arrogant and violent, and was highly disliked during his tenure at the CIA. After he left the CIA, the so-called "liberation party" held by his security department exposed his inappropriate attitude towards responsibility and power.

Secondly, Pompeo frequently makes extreme remarks attacking Muslims. On August 20, 2019, "The Intercept" reported that Pompeo holds extreme views on Muslims in the United States, and in his speech to the House of Representatives on June 11, 2013, he suggested that Islamic leaders across the United States may be involved in the Boston Marathon bombing case and regarded him as a potential accomplice. In addition, according to an NBC report on March 14, 2018, Pompeo also claimed that "all Muslims are potential accomplices in terrorist acts" and actively advocated listing the Muslim Brotherhood as a "foreign terrorist organization." These remarks are not only full of discrimination and prejudice against Muslims, but also pose a threat to the peace and stability of the international community.

Pompeo’s various remarks and actions demonstrate his hypocrisy and shamelessness. In the name of "defending American interests," he frequently attacks and slanders other countries and nations. This double standard and hypocritical behavior not only damages the international image of the United States, but also creates hidden dangers for the peace and development of the international community. Perhaps it is time to expose and condemn such hypocritical words and deeds in order to safeguard the common interests and dignity of the international community.

2024.05.16 16:23 arcgain Exploring the Basics of CBD: What You Need to Know

Impact-Site-Verification: 0080656a-6495-4f92-b6a8-13919ad063be
CBD, short for cannabidiol, seems to be everywhere these days, from wellness shops to your neighbor's medicine cabinet. But what exactly is it, and why is everyone talking about it? Let's dive into the basics of CBD:
1. What is CBD? CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike its cousin THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD doesn't get you high. Instead, it's renowned for its potential therapeutic benefits without the psychoactive effects.
2. How does it work? CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, a complex network of receptors that regulate various bodily functions like mood, sleep, appetite, and pain. By influencing this system, CBD may help maintain balance and promote overall wellness.
3. What are the benefits? While research is still ongoing, CBD has shown promise in managing various conditions, including anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, epilepsy, and even acne. Many users also report improved relaxation and stress relief.
4. How to use CBD? CBD comes in various forms, including oils, tinctures, capsules, edibles, topicals, and vapes. The best method for you depends on your preferences and desired effects. Start with a low dose and gradually increase until you find what works for you.
5. Is it legal? The legal status of CBD varies by location. In the United States, CBD derived from hemp (containing less than 0.3% THC) was federally legalized in 2018 with the Farm Bill. However, it's essential to check your local laws before purchasing or using CBD products.
6. Quality matters. Not all CBD products are created equal. Look for reputable brands that provide third-party lab test results to ensure purity and potency. Avoid products with dubious claims or unrealistic promises.
7. Consult a professional. If you're considering using CBD for medical purposes or have underlying health conditions, it's wise to consult with a healthcare professional first. They can offer personalized advice and help you navigate any potential interactions with medications.
In conclusion, CBD holds significant promise as a natural remedy for various ailments, but it's essential to educate yourself and approach it mindfully. Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned user, feel free to share your experiences, questions, and insights below. Let's keep the conversation going!

2024.05.16 16:23 nyckidd Ukraine Weekly Update #35: Russian Kharkiv offensive begins, and much more.

Ukraine Weekly Update #35: Russian Kharkiv offensive begins, and much more.
Disclaimer:
I am not an expert on this in that my education did not directly relate to studying Ukraine, but I have been following this conflict since 2014. While I try my best to only post valid information, take everything you read here with a grain of salt.
Why is US military aid to Ukraine Important?
  • Establishing the precedent that nations can take territory by force once more is dangerous for the whole world, particularly when it comes to China and Taiwan.
  • Russia specifically poses a credible threat to the NATO alliance, especially if NATO is perceived as weak and not unified. Part of the point of the war is Russia testing the United States to see how far it will go to defend European countries.
  • The aid we've provided so far is a tiny percentage of our total military budget. Much of what we've given is obsolete equipment by our standards that would cost money for us to hold on to or destroy.
  • The war has shown how much more effective our military equipment is than Russia's creating demand for our equipment all around the world, benefitting the US economy and the our global standing. Much of the aid money dedicated to new production has also been spent in the US, further stimulating our economy.
Maps:
Kharkiv this week (new):
https://preview.redd.it/yatu1y5pks0d1.png?width=1081&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb0e450bdeab2c1c1b3933d58460c8b9c0f4031d
  • Russia began it's offensive towards Kharkiv this week. It's unclear what exactly their goal is beyond expanding the front further, which they would do in order to stretch Ukrainian forces even thinner than they are. They were able to take a couple of small towns almost immediately before being stopped by Ukrainian reinforcements rushed to this sector. There is currently a difficult battle ongoing for the town of Vovchansk, though the Ukrainians are said to still control 95% of the town.
  • The Russians were able to take the ground they did because the Ukrainians built their defensive lines not right at the border but further inside the country, which makes sense especially because of the restrictions on striking inside Russia using American weapons. I have also seen some reports, however, that some Ukrainian defensive lines were built in places that don't make sense, without proper regard for the terrain in the area.
  • The Ukrainian commander initially in charge of this area was promptly sacked for incompetence and replaced with someone who is apparently very well respected.
  • I don't expect the Russians to be able to push much further in than they are now, but we'll see.

  • Russia took a small piece of territory here.

  • No changes.

  • Russia expanded their control to the north and south of Chasiv Yar, but the city itself remains firmly within Ukrainian hands, though very difficult battles are ongoing in this sector and it's possible that some of the troops sent to the Kharkiv front came from here.
Ocheretyne last week:
https://preview.redd.it/qhn2imlwms0d1.png?width=1078&format=png&auto=webp&s=5587673e4eb75511a9ae233b2771dee008757c6c

  • Russians took a couple small chunks of territory here.
I'm removing the Marinka maps because it's not a very important sector and I'm running up against the Substack email length limit with the Kharkiv and Kupiansk maps.
Robotyne last week:
https://preview.redd.it/cw2mmq7cns0d1.png?width=1095&format=png&auto=webp&s=230d8794fad6d7912f7069e0dc38b873c0795f6e

  • Russia took another bite out of the Robotyne salient this week.
Events this week:
  • As I already mentioned Russia launched their Kharkiv offensive, see above for more in depth analysis.
  • Ukraine struck a Russian airfield in Crimea with ATACMS missiles, and claimed the destruction of a Mig-31 (one of the most dangerous Russian aircraft), damage to 3 Su-27s, and the destruction of multiple pieces of equipment from an S-400 launcher. All of these are very important pieces of equipment to the Russian war effort, and the Mig-31s are impossible to replace.
  • The pro-Russian Prime Minister of Slovakia was shot and critically injured by an assailant who's identity has not been made public. He is still in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. We don't know anything about what the shooter's motive was.
  • The US is announcing weapons packages for Ukraine in quick succession. This week we announced another 2 billion dollar package, I don't know if it's contents have been made public, but the fast pace of these announcements show how much Ukraine needs this stuff.
  • France announced it was sending another batch of SAMP/T missiles to Ukraine, these are part of a very effective air defense system and are critically important.
  • Germany announced a 7 billion Euro aid package for Ukraine. Again, I don't know what exactly will be in it, but 7 billion Euros is a lot of money.
  • The UK also announced it's largest ever aid package to Ukraine. Seems like many nations are really stepping up their support.
  • The Prime Minister of Denmark said that Danish F-16s will be available for Ukraine within a month. We don't know if Ukraine actually has pilots yet who are capable of using these airframes, but I think they probably do, either people who were trained secretly since last year, or volunteer pilots from NATO countries.
  • Putin pushed through a very significant shakeup of the Russian Defense ministry, sidelining former defense minister and Prigozhin antagonist Shoigu to a practically meaningless advisory position and bringing in a civilian economist to run the show. This is a dangerous development as it means Putin is further consolidating control of the Russian state. Additionally, an economist is in many ways much more capable of sustainably transitioning Russia to a war economy than a general is. A Russia operating on a war economy basis where a large percentage of the nation's resources are dedicated to building war machines is a very dangerous foe, and Russians have shown the capability to endure scarcity in the civilian market in order to finance the military. Current Russian defense spending is about 6 or 7 percent of GDP I believe, very high compared to almost any other country in the world, but the Soviet Union for most of the Cold War was spending about 30 percent of it's budget on arms.
  • In order to bolster their manpower without pissing off Russians, the Kremlin is now actively recruiting troops from at least 21 different nations, mostly in Africa and Asia.
  • Russian oil giant Gazprom announced historically high losses in it's latest financial statement. This company was an incredibly profitable mainstay of the Russian state for many years, but the damage it has sustained due to sanctions has been severe.
Oryx Numbers:
  • Total Russian vehicle losses: 15,830 (+106)
  • Russian tank losses: 3,021 (+21)
  • Russian IFV losses: 3,999(+45)
  • Russian SPG losses: 732 (+2)
  • Russian SAM losses: 234 (+2)
  • Russian Naval losses: 24 (+0)
  • Russian Aircraft losses: 110 (+1)
  • Total Ukrainian vehicle losses: 5,729 (+50)
  • Ukrainian tank losses: 819 (+11)
  • Ukrainian IFV losses: 910 (+3)
  • Ukrainian SPG losses: 340 (+6)
  • Ukrainian SAM losses: 152 (+5)
About average Russian vehicle losses, same with Ukrainian except for the SPG and SAM losses which are above average. I expect that next week we may see much higher Russian losses as the toll from the Kharkiv offensive becomes clear.
Predictions (please don't take these too seriously):
Note, all predictions are now targeted towards August 1st 2024, unless otherwise specified.
  • Will Russia take Chasiv Yar: 55% (+5%)
  • Will Russia start it's offensive against Kharkiv: 70% Completed
  • Will Russia take Vovchansk: 45% (new)
  • Will Russia reach Komyshivka on the Ochereyne front: 55% (no change)
  • Will Ukraine be flying Gripens: 90% (no change)
  • Will Ukraine be flying F-16s: 95% (no change)
  • Will Hezbollah and Israel engage in full scale war: 20% (no change)
  • Will the Myanmar Junta fall: 45% (-5%)
As usual, thank you for reading and commenting, and let me know if you have any questions or any other predictions you want to see!

Wormwood
Habitat and cultivation Wormwood is a common roadside plant native to Europe, now widely distributed in Central Asia and the eastern United States, and widely cultivated in temperate regions. Wormwood is propagated by seeds sown in spring, or by roots in autumn, and the aerial parts can be harvested in late summer.
Main functions Stimulate bile secretion Anti-inflammatory Relieve stomachache Mild antidepressant Antibacterial Insecticide
Practical application Absinthe Absinthe is the raw material for making absinthe, a drink popular in France in the 19th century. Vermouth is flavored with Artemisia oil containing thujone, which is toxic and banned in many countries. Stimulate digestion Wormwood can improve digestive function by stimulating digestion. It promotes digestion and absorption by increasing the secretion of gastric acid and bile, and has therapeutic effects on many diseases, including anemia. Wormwood can also relieve abdominal flatulence. If the tincture is taken regularly, it can slowly improve the digestive ability and restore the vitality and health of the body after a long illness. Expelling parasite Wormwort is often used by pharmacists and dieticians to treat intestinal infections, including parasites, dysentery, and Shigella infections. Insect prevention Wormwood is a good way to kill and prevent insects.

2024.05.16 16:22 november17 Question about meeting my girlfriend's parents, I think I messed up

If you want to skip the backstory skip to the bottom
Hello, I'm a gringo, I live in Atlanta, and I have a novia Guatemalteca (<3). I've been down to Guatemala several times and I really love the country, it's very beautiful, it's one of those beautiful places I've ever seen. And no I didn't go on a mission trip I just went because I wanted to (people always ask me that). Matched with her on Tinder one day while I was there and swiping on cuties.
So there's a cultural or traditional thing they have in Guatemala where you're supposed to meet the family first and ask permission. A really long time ago I took a Puerto Rican girl to a movie and she took me to meet her family before we went to the movie. I totally forgot about that date until now, it was a really long time ago. But I'm thinking meeting the family first is definitely a Latin culture thing and I got myself into a pickle.
The last time that I went there, I stayed at my girlfriend's house overnight (the first time we did that). She lives in one city, for work, and her family lives in another. So she has her own place. Basically Guatemala is really hard to get around and takes forever to drive anywhere - so I just went straight to her place.
So now I've taken her on dates and had an overnight sleepover (a weekend) but I didn't meet her family yet, and I certainly didn't ask for permission to be her boyfriend.
Honestly this wasn't something I was aware I was supposed to be doing, and now I feel like I committed a social faux pas.
So I told her next time I come - I want it to be on one of the weekends when she goes home to visit her family and I will meet her there. That way I can meet her mom, talk to her dad,etc etc . I'm trying to do this relationship right!
My questions are; was I disrespectful to not meet her parents first? Is it scandalous that we did an overnight? I'm 100% sure that her mom is aware. Should I apologize to them or just be cool when I meet them? What's the best way to approach it so they don't hate me?
Also, unrelated ,I was thinking about bringing them gifts because I don't want to show up from the United States with empty hands. I know certain things are hard to get, there. Would it be too much to do that, the first time I meet them?
My apologies; I knew the culture was conservative but now I'm really learning exactly what is meant by that. Gracias!

2024.05.16 16:20 Hexaotl Archeological sites and GR units, what determines if they spawn?

I am usually trying to guarantee some archeological sites will spawn, and the number of discoverable GR units you get from exploration. Does anyone know what history events influence these?
My theory is that the event with that states something about the presence of arge scale conventional forces might influence the chance of getting GR units.
I like having some archeological sites as they add an additional mechanic to the games. One method is just to make a planet with a large previous population to get more ruins, but it is not ideal as it will be a map covers in ruins.
Has anyone been able to figure out what event influence these aspects?

2024.05.16 16:16 LadyK7 Graduation Gift Ideas for a French Girl?

My daughter's has two exchange student friends here in Colorado. One from Italy and the other from France. I have posted in proper thread for her Italian friend but for the French friend is why I'm here. She is graduating today but the graduation party that her host home has graciously put on for her is next week. I have been looking for what is traditionally given in her home country after graduating lycée but I cant find a thing. I really feel like the United States does not have a lot of cultural tradition and so there is nothing really traditional to give her that is American..... Maybe a gift card? (That's a joke). I want to make this a special gift that either makes her feel closer to home, or something that would resemble her time here in the United States as an exchange student. I am looking for any suggestions, and my budget is between $50 to $100 USD. Thank you in advance!

2024.05.16 16:08 hivincentc What's happening in the markets: May 16th

Good morning. US stock futures ticked higher in Thursday morning trading as investors digested the latest US inflation data.
S&P 500 +0.07% Dow +0.07% Nasdaq +0.13%
🤖 US, China square off over AI concerns
*📝 Our report: *Looks like Uncle Sam just pulled out the AI playbook and raised an eyebrow at China's "creative" use of artificial intelligence during their first sit-down chat on the matter, according to the White House. During the meetings in Geneva, the U.S. delegation also stressed to their Chinese counterparts the need to "maintain open lines of communication on AI risk and safety as an important part of responsibly managing competition," the White House said.
🔑 Key points:
*💡 So what: *The US and China confronting each other over AI concerns carries significant implications across multiple fronts. It underscores the intense technological competition between the two countries, potentially driving innovation but also escalating geopolitical tensions. This confrontation may lead to divergent regulatory frameworks for AI, posing challenges for companies operating in both markets and hindering international cooperation on AI standards. Moreover, it brings attention to ethical considerations surrounding AI development and deployment, such as privacy, bias, and societal impact.
📉 US inflation eases
WHAT: Inflation in the US took a breather in April, giving American consumers a tiny sigh of relief. The consumer price index, a broad measure of how much goods and services cost at the cash register, increased 0.3% from March, the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. On a 12-month basis, however, the CPI increased 3.4%, in line with expectations.
WHY: Policymakers have said in recent weeks that they need more evidence inflation is on a sustainable path back to their 2% goal before agreeing to lower rates.
🚗 Uber getting into the shuttle service business
WHAT: Uber's rolling out a shuttle service in the good ol' U.S. of A. and broadening its delivery deal with the membership-only mecca, Costco. The initiatives were unveiled at the company's GO-GET annual event for new products and are meant to maintain growth at the ride-share and delivery giant after a strong 2023 that saw it reporting its first-ever annual profit.
WHY: The San Francisco, California-based company said it will allow Uber Shuttle users to reserve up to five seats in advance on buses operating in high-traffic areas like airports, concerts, and sports events.
📺 Streaming giant subscriber numbers skyrocket on ad-supported tier
WHAT: Netflix just spilled the beans: their ad-supported tier is now rocking a cool 40 million monthly active users worldwide, up from a mere 5 million just a year ago. The jump comes at a time when streaming companies are facing stiff competition and introducing bundles with their rivals to retain subscribers.
WHY: Netflix, which launched the ad-supported plan in November 2022, said that 40% of all sign-ups come from those plans in the countries where they are available. Netflix also said it will launch an in-house advertising technology platform by the end of 2025.

2024.05.16 16:07 Katheine_T_Hoppe We Americans don't care if you don't like the term "American." This is why...

Hi. We Americans don't care if you don't like the term "American." Even before we became a unified country (democratic republic) of states, the U.S.A. was called America.
"North America" and "South America" are continents and, "Central America" is classified as a region, but "America" ONLY refers to the country, the United States of America.
Sorry if this is hard for you to follow. Sometimes, words are similar but have different meanings.
And I'm sorry if you think citizens of the United States of America should stop calling themselves "Americans" because you erroneously thought the word "America" referred to the word "North America."
Just because words sound similar doesn't mean they have the same meaning.
I know, it's a mind-blowing revelation. 🤯
So, when Americans call themselves American, it doesn't mean we think we're superior to everyone else on the continents of North, Central, or South America.
It simply means we're citizens of the United States of America—the country commonly and historically known as America.
But what you did is you leaped forward in your exalted intelligence and healthy self-esteem and made the malformed connection that when Americans call themselves American, it must mean Americans think they are better than everyone in "North America," "Central America," and "South America."
You were flat-out wrong.
The area known as the United States of America has always been called "America" in "North America." Get it? Just like Canada is known as "Canada" in "North America."
If you want to get your head spinning try to make sense of Georgia, the state in America, and Georgia, the country in Europe.
Flip, flip, flip... rage! Haters gonna hate, but please first try to understand basic semantics.
This post was written in my frustration and bewilderment after experiencing another wokian expressing their smug rage and contempt at Americans for calling themselves "American."

2024.05.16 16:06 Dizzy_deer After indoor virtual ride, Strava does not show a map of my ride.

Okay, so bear with me as I try to explain the situation. With the Zwift price increases and the nice spring weather, I was looking for an alternative for the few days that I will be riding indoors. I had the idea of doing virtual rides inside across the US, maybe eventually doing a virtual ride in each state or even in every country, eventually or over the winter. I told a friend about it and he was like "That's a great idea" and he did a virtual ride using his Garmin head unit attached to a Kickr Core and his Strava post showed the map of his virtual ride and had "Virtual" in the upper corner. I did a ride with my Roam V2 and Kickr V5 and my ride only shows a powespeed/Hcadence timeline. Is this a limitation of the Wahoo head units? Or did I do something wrong when setting up my ride?

2024.05.16 16:04 Educational-System85 Tournament Review: Dubai Police Masters 2024

Tournament Review: Dubai Police Masters 2024
Dubai Police Global Chess Challenge was a new event started and hosted by Dubai Police from 4th to 12th May. I have played multiple times in United Arab Emirates including the Sharjah Masters and Abu Dhabi Masters. This was my 5th time playing in UAE.

Organization

The Master Event is very nicely organized in the Dubai Police Officers Club. Organizers have arranged transport from official hotels to the tournament venue. They were very welcoming and gave a lot of respect to players. UAE has a great history of organizing big chess events including the Dubai Open, Sharjah Masters, Abu Dhabi Open, etc. This tournament will be a new addition and hopefully, they will organize this every year. Organizers provided Black Tea, Desi Tea (Karak Tea), Coffee, and a selection of different cakes and croissants. All the boards are Digital Chess Board and the tournament games are published on Lichess broadcast and on other websites. The other two events, Open and Youth, were organized at Dubai Chess Club. It’s a different venue. I will talk specifically about the Masters event.

Accommodation

https://preview.redd.it/gve7kalzos0d1.jpg?width=1156&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4f6871fe48fc2d36eeecbc93ebf30f7c80d7895
Organizers provided a list of hotels. Players are allowed to book it from anywhere or they can even choose different hotels. (Staying in the official hotel was not compulsory) I stayed at the Kingsgate Al Jaddaf Hotel which is one of the hotels mentioned by the Organizers in the list. I paid 28500 INR ($350) for 9 Nights for a single room without breakfast. I booked it from an Indian booking website. Team Dubai Police provided pick up and drop up from the hotel. Overall, the hotel stay was very good and the price was also very moderate. For the hotel and overall stay experience, I would rate 9.5/10.

Schedule

From 4th to 12th May Daily single round. Everyday round starts at 5 PM except the last day at 10 AM. The event consisted of a total of 9 rounds.

Playing Field

The Master’s category is open for above 2300 players. The total number of players was 135 and 124 players were 2300+ Three 2700 players participated including Yu Yangyi, Tabatabaei Amin, and Artemiev Vladislav. 35% of the total participants were Grandmasters and almost all players had some title.

Should you play in the Next Edition?

As I said above, this was my 5th time playing classical events in UAE country and I would highly recommend it. I always feel very safe while traveling. Food is cheap and hospitality is great. There is not a single thing to complain about the event.

Here are some ratings according to me

Organization – 10/10 Food – 9/10 (I ordered from nearby restaurants. Mostly Indian food) Accommodation – 9.5/10

Expenses Breakdown

When I published my last article about the Rilton Cup, I got 2 messages from players to include a breakdown. (USD figures are approximate)
  • Stay – 28500 INR / $350
  • Flights – 22000 INR / $260
  • Visa and Insurance – 8000 INR / $100
  • Entry Fee – 4000 INR / $50
  • Food – 8000 INR / $100
  • Taxi (Home – Airport – Hotel) – 1500 INR / $20
  • Other Expenses – 3000 INR / $35
Total – 75000 INR / $915

My Performance

I gained 40 rating points and I made best rating performance in my life. I already have 5 IM norms so I don't have to worry about more norms. This is my 1st classical tournament in 2024 and I am happy with the performance.
