2024.05.29 05:36 Strange_Age9844 Metal VS Shingles

I live in NE, Ohio. My family has run a roofing / exteriors construction company for 20+ years. I left the business to start insurance adjusting. I enjoy adjusting and it's much simpler money. I've been doing claims full time for 4 years.
However, I've recently started doing jobs on the side. Personally I've only ever installed asphalt shingles. I've known of our metal subcontractors (mostly Amish crews) and I've watched them put on roofs over the years.
My experience has been that while the metal roof panels are warranted to last 40+ years the fasteners breakdown after 12-14 years.
Does anyone have any experience in this? My anecdotal evidence from adjusting confirms this somewhat - I've handled (4) metal roof leaks this year that all had no obvious leaks (holes, missing panels / fasteners, obvious dents, etc). The leaks appear to be coming from valleys / dormers. The ages of these roofs range from 4-12 years old.
I've had some customers ask about metal roofs and I was curious if I should pursue installing them or not using subcontractors.

2024.05.29 05:33 relaxbro14 Home Insurance Claim Question; Ordinance or Law Coverage

Long story short, a wind storm removed a handful of sections of tin roof allowing rain to leak into my house, which has ruined my dining room and belongings. For back story, it appears as if the dining room was an addition to the original blueprint of the house at some point long before I bought it.
When the contractors were gutting the room, they came across a litany of things not up to current code. A third party engineer came out and inspected it, giving a detailed list of things not up to code/require further inspection.
Direct list of things from the engineer’s report “We observed the following: -The addition framing does not match typical IRC framing methods. Permit research of the property did not show any permits for this type of work. -No hurricane ties are present at the roof rafter bearing. -The exterior wood studs are not continuous to the sill plate and the sill plate is stacked with gaps and offsets. Improper load path at wall framing. -The sill plates are not mechanically fastened to the foundation walls. Additionally, they do not match typical IRC detailing. -The floor joists rest directly on soil. The joists and sheathing are rotting from the top down. -The joists are not mechanically fastened to the foundation wall. -The foundation walls are ungrouted -The following architectural/MEP items were noted: -No apparent vapor barrier below the joists -Not adequate crawl space depth, per IRC code -No crawl space venting, appeared to be damp conditions below floor system -Floor and wall finishes appeared compromised due to the inability of proper air flow. -Unclear how the roof would be vented – if unvented, improper insulation techniques utilized -The roof slopes and roof intersections between them, as well as at the chimney, present inadequate water paths for drainage -Juncture of asphalt roofing to metal roofing is missing a high/low transition strip, therefore relying on adhesive sealants – prone to failure”
I have Law and ordinance (code upgrades) in my policy up to $40K, but my adjuster stated that they won’t cover any of the upgrades to things such as the improper foundation or framing since “they were not directly damaged from the peril” and instead currently plan on just covering the costs of redoing the drywall, flooring, and subfloor.
Perhaps I’m mistaken, but isn’t this exactly what code upgrades are for? If not in this specific instance, then when exactly are they used? I’m genuinely curious, because section 3 below makes me feel as if I’m entitled to utilize that portion of the policy given that I pay for it. The following text is directly from my insurance policy, specifically the law and ordinance subsection.
“Ordinance Or Law Coverage- If a loss by a PERIL WE INSURE AGAINST occurs to covered property, or the building containing the covered property, "we" will pay for the increased costs incurred due to the enforcement of any ordinance or law that is in force at the time of the loss. The maximum amount "we" will pay in any one loss is the amount shown on the "Declarations.” Payment is in addition to the amount of insurance applying to the loss.
"You" may use this coverage for: 1. the construction, demolition, renovation or repair of the portion of the building damaged by a PERIL WE INSURE AGAINST; 2. the demolition and reconstruction of the undamaged portion of the building if the entire building must be demolished because of damage by a PERIL WE INSURE AGAINST: 3. the removal or replacement of the undamaged portion of the building because of the repair or replacement of the portion of the building damaged by a PERIL WE INSURE AGAINST; 4. or the removal of debris resulting from the construction, demolition, renovation, repair or replacement of Item 1. 2. or 3.
Ordinance Or Law Coverage does not include coverage for: -loss in value to any covered building due to the requirements of any ordinance or law; or -the cost to comply with any ordinance or law requiring the testing, monitoring, cleaning up, removing, containing, treating, detoxifying, neutralizing, responding to or assessing the effects of any solid, liquid, gaseous or thermal irritant, pollutant or contaminant in or on any covered building.”
Will somebody please help me break down exactly what that all means? Am I just being strong armed by my adjuster in order to keep the total claim amount low, or am I truly the one that has to foot the bill on those things?
Thank you in advance, kind experts of the Redditverse <3

2024.05.29 05:31 Express-World-8473 HDFC Life Insurance scam!

HDFC Life Insurance scam!
https://epaper.eenadu.net/Home/Index?date=28/05/2024&eid=3&pid=2635756
I couldn't find a proper article on this in English. So I would translate the article and give the context.
This happened in Hyderabad. A women named E Bhagyamma has got an insurance from HDFC Life for 75 lakhs and paid it for 2 yrs before passing away unfortunately due to a heart attack. His husband has tried to claim the insurance from them after her passing but the company denied it saying that she already had high blood pressure and there's hospital records of her having Angioplasty treatments and stating that reason they denied it.
The husband has petitioned against this and the trial has started with HDFC showing proofs of hospital records from Sigma hospital dated 2015, but the truth is Bhagyamma has never visited the hospital for any checkups. To prove this her husband had invited the doctor whose name was on the record to give statement, the twist here is the doctor herself joined the hospital in 2016 and someone had a created a fake report with her sign forged on it. The court has given chances for the company to challenge these claims and prove themselves but failed to attend the court and The victims prosecutor asked for questioning the manager of the branch but the manager did not attend it.
So in the end due to failing to prove their claims, the court has given its verdict to the company to pay the victims 75 lakhs with a 7% interest.
Just imagine the lengths these people go to refuse the claims. I was even more shocked by how this article was not covered or discussed anywhere to the point I couldn't find a single English news article on it.

2024.05.29 05:30 HarperandHudson Advice for next step (background/vent/advice needed)

Soooo, background before my questions: TD2 here—currently on Synjardy 10/1000. I developed TD2 at 45 (I’m now 47). Have had decent BG control since starting meds—A1C from 13.2 to 6.5 (ish). I also had therapy for BED, which was incredibly helpful, especially regarding body image. Last bw was Jan, and my numbers were higher—A1C was 6.7, cholesterol was up (dr suggested a statin, but I’m holding off). Fasting glocose has been somewhat higher too. BP was still good. I’m 5’1”. Since my early 30s, my weight has been creeping up. Pre-kids, I was 125-130lbs. Until my mid-30s, I was around 150lbs, when it became extremely difficult to lose weight, regardless of diet or activity level. Now, at 47, I’m 185lbs. I have tried so many diets that I developed BED. Therapy helped, but I’m finding the food noise creeping back in. I’m thinking that adding in a GLP-1 would be reasonable right now—both from a diabetic control issue and weight loss standpoint. My insurance will cover it.
I messaged with my PCP today (who has been managing my TD2) and she feels the Synjardy is doing the same thing as Mounjaro would. My A1C was 6.5 at my last check—and I would like it to be below 5.7. She said if I’m interested in Mounjaro or a GLP-1, she would connect me with CoreLife (which is a whole weight loss-type clinic). And while that’s a good plan for many people bc it covers exercise, nutrition, and mental health, I’m over it. I’ve done it. I have a therapist I saw for 18 months about body image and binge eating. I was a certified personal trainer. I’ve worked with a diabetes educator for 12 weeks when I was first diagnosed. I intellectually understand what needs to happen—yet even as I’ve done those things, I can’t get my A1C below 6.2, and I continue to have a BMI of 35. (I have thoughts/feelings about BMI, however since that’s a measure the medical community still uses, it is what it is.) I want to responsibly take care of myself. My thought had been to add Mounjaro with the Synjardy. Helpful ideas?!?

2024.05.29 05:30 Interesting_Prompt97 Minimal Insurance Policy to keep when moving out of the US for an year

I have to move to Singapore because of my visa and I will return to the US after one year. I own a Mazda 3 and it is under finance. I reside in Los Angeles and since I will not be using my car, I plan to ship it to Washington state to keep it at my brother's place. He won't be using it but he has agreed to keep my car until I return. My car is on finance and I am trying to make an informed decision about the minimal insurance policy I should maintain as I want to keep my car. I called the Mazda finance and they informed me that I should have the insurance policy that covers the "loss of damage for the full value of the vehicle" (in their exact words). I don't want to keep paying a lot of money for insurance while I don't use the car. Has anyone ever been in this situation? I am seeking help to understand how I should proceed in this situation?
  1. I called up progressive insurance and they said they don't have any storage mode. However, they said that having only comprehensive coverage is the same as "storage mode". Since my vehicle is on finance, would DMV agree to that as I read that different states have different policies in place? Does anyone know what are the requirements California state has for minimal insurance?
  2. Can I cancel the vehicle registration and later cancel my insurance? From what the Mazda finance has told me, I don't think this is possible but I would like to hear this sub's opinion?
  3. Would selling my car make more sense? I dont want to go this route but I would like to know if that is indeed a reasonable thing to do to avoid all this hassle. My vehicle has already depreciated in value by $9000.
Thanks in advance. I look forward to listening to this sub's insights.

2024.05.29 05:28 ELite_Predator28 My brother got caught by our ISP torrenting stuff. Now I'm being blamed and threatened for it by my parents.

For context, my mom is an incredibly stubborn person who likes to think that she knows everything and can order me around because she is my mother. For instance, I had to argue with her for days to get rid of a cable box for a TV we never use for a service that's already redundant to what our ISP service provides over streaming. The rental equipment costs us 10$ a month for rental equipment, and we have 2 more in the house so I thought I should just get rid of it. It was hard fought but now they are paying less for the same functions.
I am now expanding this mission of money saving to self-hosting streaming services through a Plex ServePieHole I configured. The PieHole doesn't work because my ISP doesn't allow me to change the DNS setting on my router, but the Plex Server works fine to stream music and movies I rip from BluRays and records I own. I bought the lifetime pass a few days ago and I don't regret it. I unsubbed and deleted spotify from my phone the other day, and I got my dad to do it too. We are now saving 50$ a month with this investment and I can feel it.
Here's where we start butting heads: every single time she has issues with the internet, it's the server's fault. It's not the fact that the home shitty laptop she uses for work is slow and at 100% disk and CPU usage all the time. Nor is it the fact that she doesn't understand that the interface for the cable box and the android SmartTV are two different layers of similar apps.
She blamed the server for opening a menu and changing the channel, when in reality what happend was she clicked on the Samsung SmartTV app instead of the HDMI source output for the cable box.
Whenever we have a drop in the connection or Wi-Fi speeds it's always the server's fault, by extension, my fault. She has to use a tablet to submit her hours for work over wifi, and when that doesn't work it's my fault and the server.
Fast forward to today, my brother is home from college with his PC. Upon hooking it up our home network, apparently he had a few torrents going while he was away and I can only guess that's what sprang the alarm for my ISP. His roommate for school is going for IT, and I can only guess that he had a powerful network-wide VPN to cover both of them. Now that he's home, he's exposed to our ISP's .
Now my mom wants to throw the server out after getting the DMCA warning email, but the kicker is that the IP address and the device name is literally listed in the email - it's my brother's ffs. I know this because I assigned him the IP for the PieHole.
I'm so fucking tired of her ignorance and blaming things on me that is literally not my fault. I can't explain everything to her because she doesn't want to listen to me explain things that don't align woth her ignorance. She doesn't want to let me explain how it's my brother's IP and he is the culprit - I'm always at fault. We had a big argument the other day where it felt like she was finally going to lay off me and then this shit happens and basically visited her ignorance of what us me trying to save everyone hundreds of dollars a year.
Another question here: from what I've seen, DMCA letters are mostly empty threats. Is this true or should I be worried? The DMCA claim only covered 1 torrented file, and I understand that the maximum tolerance is 5 warnings. Can anyone confirm if I should be worried about my ISP coming after me?
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.29 05:25 BradyTheReclusive Matched betting arbitrage business — marketing dilemma

Hi friends
My partner and I started an LLC consulting in Matched Betting Arbitrage a couple months ago — essentially: taking outside funding from a funding agent then working with clients who have never done any online sports betting before, therefore having access to free bets through multiple apps as a new user. We then hedge these bets that are placed through multiple apps, and in a span of a few days everyone makes money — our client with the free bets made profit and only sacrificed their time, our funding agent did no work and just threw money in, then got his money back, and we do all the work and make our cut equally.
We cover potential tax problems clients may have, as companies will send you a 1099 if you’ve claimed a certain amount of money through the app; we send a Profit and Loss statement at the end of business to prove to the IRA that they didn’t take any more than their contracted share while working with us. Those clients are then in the position of being a Referral Agent in the future potentially, as they can refer people in their life to work with us and we pay them out a percentage for doing so.
My question is this: as our business has fully operated through word of mouth up to this point, and I’d like to market our services on the internet somehow, but I don’t want to draw in the wrong types of people. We have large sums of money in the hands of people we work with at times, and should they run off with the money in their temporary possession, they are liable to be litigated by the bounds of our contract. However, I’d like to mitigate this as it’s a true pain in the ass 😄
TLDR; I’m brainstorming a marketing idea for people who have never used sports betting apps before and would like to make quick, risk-free money, but am trying to avoid low-character people in doing so.
Thanks for reading

Since the crash, I made a post a post on Facebook hoping any cars of traffic had seen it, turns out a witness did. She was the middle lane car, travelling straight and I was the only car in the 4th lane turning right and confirmed my green indicative arrow. 12th May She made a police report, the father of my children did too, and was followed up by the investigating officer and confirmed my green light but was still holding me as the at fault driver 13th of May. 14th of May I went into the shop myself and seen it’s public CCTV footage I have witnessed it myself. And was curious as to why the police were still against me with 2 reports. Police stated they were going off the reflective light on the ground
15th May I went into the station personally to talk to the investigating officer and was sent a link to my phone and was told to open it to receive RTI forms (Right Of Information) as police on scene said they know who called, and the name was mentioned 3+ times I said impossible that name called 000 I reach for my phone for proof of phone log contact because that’s the name of my friend, she died at this intersection.. I was told that same day no was gonna be issued a ticket. 18th of May I received a $619 fine processing through a red arrow from the 11/04/2024.
21st May find my original photos for evidence on my phone had been tampered with. The screenshot conversation was squared off instead of round (Messenger Facebook)

2024.05.29 05:24 Equivalent-Matter466 Therapeutic Board Schools - Red Hawk Academy for Girls

My daughter is 16 and has been diagnosed with autism, anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. She has been in three different programs, two of which she was expelled due to her defiance and conduct. She has been at Red Hawk for the past six months.
When looking for a program online for your daughter, you will quickly become inundated with negative posts about therapeutic boarding schools including RHA. When reviewing these negative posts, you always need to keep in mind that many of the posts are written by individuals who: (1) never had a daughter who attended the school, (2) "heard" about the program but have no first hand knowledge, or (3) disgruntled, upset, and emotionally charged kids who may or may not have attended the school. It is utterly frustrating to read negative posts about RHA and not be able to counter the posts.
Here are a few negative RHA posts that I would like to dispel:
1) There is inappropriate conduct by the staff (my favorite example - owners asking the girls to rub their feet): FALSE - our daughter has never reported any inappropriate conduct by any staff member. While you may think that my daughter (and the others) can't truthfully report what is going on at the facility, what you may not know, is that I visit my daughter every three months. I went to visit her in April and she stayed in a hotel room with us for three nights. If there was something going on at the school she would have told us.
2) The girls can't get calls or mail: FALSE - we speak to our daughter every week. She also writes us letters that are scanned and sent via email. The family can send letters via email or regular mail. I know she receives the letters because she sends a written response or we discuss the letter on a video call. In regards to the calls - the calls are all video calls. We get to talk and see our daughter every week.
3) It is dangerous to give guardianship to RHA: FALSE - I admit that I was scared when I was asked to sign a document giving temporary guardianship to RHA. But then, I thought about it logically. My daughter lives in another state and I need to someone to have the legal right to make choices/decisions on daughter's behalf. I will not risk the health and well-being of my daughter due to my own ungrounded fear in allowing temporary guardianship. More importantly, I truly trust RHA staff and know that they have the well-being of my daughter in mind when making decisions.
I have not covered all negative posts, but addressed some of the posts that stood out to me.
HERE IS MY MESSAGE TO YOU: I love my daughter unconditionally. Above all else, I want her to be happy and healthy. It was a difficult decision to send her away, and there are many days that I am sad she is not living with us. Sometimes I wish she could come home. But, then I remind myself why she is at RHA. She is there because she needs help, help that we could not provide her. She was breaking the family and in the process destroying herself. My greatest act of love was to send her to a program where she can get the help she needs.
The only program that has been successful for our family is RHA. RHA offers a safe and caring environment. The staff listen to us and guide us to making the best decisions for our family and our daughter. RHA offers encouragement and support to our daughter. It is hard to think about where my daughter would be if we did not seek help for her last year.
Words of wisdom, when you call a program or visit a program, pay attention to your gut instinct. Ask for the telephone numbers of parents who have had a daughter in the program. Not all therapeutic boarding schools are bad and abusive. Talk to the head of the school/program and make sure you feel heard and understood by that person. The first time I called Valerie, I had a really good feeling. She had a positive attitude and answered each and every question I asked. She was not evasive and she was forthright with her responses. Sometimes, you need to take a leap of faith, and that leap led me to RHA.
For parents of daughters who struggle, remember that you are not alone and there are options for you and your daughter. Every so often, I see glimpses of my sweet daughter, and I hope that for you!
Wish you all the best!

2024.05.29 05:22 Patryn FTX Express Payouts

Hi All,
Good news post here.
I'm in Australia and thought I'd let you all know that I just received a deposit into my bank account from FTX Express. The last email I got says that the payment will happen on the 2nd June, so close enough! I haven't gotten a letter from them confirming it yet, though.
It looks like I got approximately 12.4% interest if my math is correct
(received amt - claimed amt) / claimed amt = 12.4%
So it looks like the end of the long road is near! Now to wait for the FTX international payout!

2024.05.29 05:18 LoveScoutCEO AFA is not a scam. Suggesting it is shows complete misunderstanding of the reality of the dating and matchmaking industry, and wilful disregard for AFA's record. BUT DO NOT TRUST ME - CONSIDER THE EVIDENCE!

Last week, when I was on a very rare vacation from saving guys from lives of loneliness, someone posted a question asking if AFA is a scam.
I am just going to answer it here, because my answer is long and detailed.
Romance Is HARD!
First, the dating industry is simply impossible, because it is trying to help people, often deeply flawed people, find love. This is the most personal, most private, and most deeply emotional journey in someone's life and it is a challenging journey for everyone. Most first dates don't lead to second dates and most second dates don't lead to people becoming a couple, and most couples do not get married, and over 40% of American couples are not married ten years later.
But if at any point in this chain an AFA client ends up angry and disappointed - including decades later - he very well might rage that AFA is a scam.
And the Romance Industry Is HARDER Than Regular Romance!
AFA is not just an electronic introduction app like Tinder or other dating apps. They actually introduces thousands of men and women in person every single year.
They employee dozens of matchmakers and have scores of affiliated dating agencies in Ukraine, Thailand, Colombia, and roughly a dozen other countries. That is complicated. They have something like 30k women in the database. That is a huge logistical challenge.
In fact, if you really think about it is amazing how successful they have been.
But lets look closer at the overwhelming proof they are not a scam:
AFA Has Been In Business Almost Thirty Years.
If they were a scam they would have been sued out of existence long ago. They are based in Phoenix. They are not some mysterious site with an office in Malta. They can be sued or even prosecuted under US law.
AFA Is Almost The Only American International Matchmaker Left In Business
IMBRA has a whole slew of requirements, including inspections by the US State Department, and most other matchmakers either collapsed under the pressure or moved off-shore. AFA didn't. That alone speaks volumes for their integrity.
AFA Has Introduced Tens of Thousands of Happy Couples.
Take a look at the testimonials. They have hundreds of testimonials and on this sub they have numerous defenders who actually have used their service.
AFA Has Been Relentlessly Investigated By the Media Over and Over
Reporters love breaking big stories of crime, corruption and scandal. Most of the journalists who have looked at AFA over the last thirty years have thought they were going to break a big story because of the urban legends about international dating. But take a look at their media page. It is almost universally positive, and if its really a scam all of these people have to be in on it too.
AFA Has Been Studied By Academics In More Detail Than Any Dating Company
But my favorite source on AFA are the numerous academics who have studied them - often for years on end - over the years. These scholars were often certain they were going to uncover a worldwide criminal conspiracy. Instead, most of them become openly supportive.
You can read an entire article about academic research on international dating, but here is the conclusion of Dr. Julia Meszaros after studying the company for several years, attending numerous socials, and interviewing scores of participants. She wrote: “…AFA is a completely legal, legitimate marriage introduction agency....”
Are they all in on the scam? Well, I can assure you if they had discovered it was a worldwide criminal conspiracy they would have gotten tenure faster and sold more books.
Joking aside, the academics are in the best position to determine what AFA's operations and motives are, because they are intelligent, driven, and often spend years studying the company.
AFA Is NOT Perfect
AFA has problems. Their letter system is loaded with issues, but it also allows men to contact women they could never meet otherwise. I have discussed these issues in scores of posts.
And, unlike any of the large dating apps, AFA does vet its women. That is incredibly rare, because most dating apps are loaded with fake profiles and bots.
A few years ago Ashley Madison's female profiles were over 99% fake, and most studies find at least 10% of profiles on the big domestic apps are fake. The owner of one small app, Findmate, who spends a lot of time vetting profiles claims about 75-80% of profiles he receives from the main international dating countries are from sophisticated scammer gangs.
So, AFA does try to vet everyone, but it cannot see into a woman's heart. Yes, she could just lie to them throughout the process about her intentions, and guess what? Even the CIA and MI-5 have failed to catch every bad apple and they really vet their applicants. Some liars get through. That's life.
Evaluate The Evidence Yourself
I purposely leave up posts, because Reddit is FULL of power crazy mods who delete everyone who disagrees with them and bans many users regularly. I have been banned many times and I find it incredibly annoying, so I almost never ban anyone and rarely remove comments.
I am trying to encourage guys to do their own research and decide for themselves what is best. So, take a look at the evidence and decide for yourself what you believe is the best approach.
Best Wishes!

2024.05.29 05:08 E-lasmosaurus-3010 Wholesome doctor interaction

So, in my country, If you are dependent on a military member, you get covered with the military insurance (pretty sure it is everywhere, but i'm not north american, so just giving a background) until you make to 24yo I (22 transmasc) have been down sick since Friday, and today was the worse, so i finally went to the doctor.
I go through triage, get in to doctors office, and he ask me the normal stuff "How are you? what happened? What are your symptoms"
So i respond "eu tô gripadO dês de sexta" "i'm sick (in masculine form) since Friday"
I always use masculine nouns and adjectives, as my language is veryyy gendered, but normally most people not even bait a eye on that and keep on treating me in feminine.
The doctor heard me, took notes of my symptoms, looked at my form and them
"First, how should i call you?"
That got me by surprise, and i just mumbled that, actully, my name is Elias, but it would say deadname on the forms.
He smiled, and wrote my actual name under my deadname on the form. I was so happy, but SO SICK, i just said a shy thank you.
Then he explained what i should do, what meds should i take and made sure to write the right name on the in the prescription, as it still has to be my deadname.
So since he seemend to be a safe person, i decided to ask something that i needed to ask someome from the military. So i started with "So, i wanted to ask a military guy about it, but..."
And he stopped and "No, look, i'm not a military guy. These clothes, this place, does not represent me. We are here as equal people, and i just want you to have the best care i can offer" (but imagine this with a ...how can i say, a very camp accent? You now what i'm talking about, that men was making clear that he was not just a ally)
I was literally like B!TCH YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE ME CRY RIGHT HERE IN FRONT OF YOU I just felt so safe, which is so hard to me to feel in a military environment.
I asked what i wanted to ask, if he thought i would have a lot of trouble with the insurance if i had my name legally changed. And of course the answer is yes.
We finished the appointment, he wished me the best, and i certainly wish doctor H the best life ever. Having him there and talking to me like that in a place that can be so unwelcoming to LGBTQ+ folks really made my day. Love to see the gays being doctors in the military. Serving. Literally.

2024.05.29 05:08 EmilooR Withholding benefits

This is in Idaho but the retail company I work for is based out of California. I was hired in October of last year and was meant to be part time and therefore did not qualify for benefits through this company. Well we need insurance now so I am trying to bump up my hours to full time so I can get a special enrollment period and get benefits. Well my boss made a mistake on my offer letter and marked me as full time which neither of us caught. So now hr is trying to say that because I was offered benefits at hire and because we didn't correct my status early enough they won't give me an enrollment period or benefits and I'll have to wait until open enrollment later this year. Is this legal?

2024.05.29 05:07 RubyDoesStuff0000 The Lie is a Cake

Day 1 A news report breaks in [REDACTED] New York about a man waking up the previous morning, and attempting to turn on his TV to watch the latest episode of his favourite show, only for his remote to crumble in his hand. Confused as to what was going on, the man would attempt to manually turn on his TV, only to accidentally pull a chunk of it off. It was at this moment, that the man would discover that his TV had been replaced with a hyper-realistic cake. The man would question his wife about where the TV went, and why there was a hyper-realistic cake in its place. However, his wife was just as confused as he was about the entire situation at hand. The man would attempt to report this to his local authorities, claiming his TV had been stolen and replaced with a hyper-realistic cake. Only to be laughed off as a prankster due to his ridiculous claim. Angry at this, he would take his story to the local news station hoping for justice to be served to whoever stole his TV. Once again, his claims were laughed off and published as a mere joke. The man would claim that there would be more cases of people’s items being replaced with hyper-realistic cakes going forward and that they would all regret ignoring his case.
Day 29 Police reports coming from all over [REDACTED] New York would reveal the man’s words to be correct. Starting after a young woman would attempt to open her purse, only for the zip to completely come off upon being pulled and quickly break apart, taking some of the modelling chocolate with it. Soon people would begin reporting all over the area that their items had been completely replaced with cake. Phones, laptops, bags, earrings, necklaces, rings and even stacks of cash were discovered to have been replaced with hyper-realistic cakes. Local authorities, having now clearly learned that this was no prank, are looking into the cases to try and track down these valuable items. However, one thing these cases all have in common (aside from the cakes being delicious) is the complete lack of evidence pointing to any suspects. No DNA evidence, no signs of forced entry, and no people in the area at the time. Nobody is even sure when these items were replaced with cakes. They all say they could've sworn they were real a second ago, only to suddenly be cake. Almost as if there was no thief and they had just suddenly turned into cake. Authorities are still on the hunt for a possible suspect in this case, even though the wider New York authorities laugh at them for humouring these absurd claims.
Day 47 The situation has escalated much further than anyone could've possibly anticipated. Now the reports of items being replaced with hyper-realistic cake have rapidly expanded to the rest of New York. Hundreds of people are reporting that their valuable items are being discovered to be hyper-realistic cakes. A man would take his phone out of his pocket to check if he'd received any important emails, only for his phone to crumble into pieces of cake in his hand. A woman would attempt to cash in a check of $100,000 to a bank, only for the modelling chocolate on the check to smash into several pieces when placed down on the counter. A couple would attempt to hurry their kids into the car, worrying they may be late for school. Only for the car to fall apart right in front of them, as the door is pulled off and falls to the ground. People are getting scared, they're worrying that at any moment, any of their prized possessions could end up being a hyper-realistic cake. Nobody is sure what is real and what is cake anymore, so they've taken to trying to cut anything they own, hoping to weed out the cake from the non-cake. Many have ended up accidentally destroying many of the things they own in the process of doing this. But those who still have their stuff have taken to putting stickers on them to ensure they know they're real. That was until an edible sticker was found to be on the back of a hyper-realistic cake emulating a mobile phone. Now, people’s only option is to place all their valued possessions into safes, covered in locks with an 87-number code that not even they know. The governor of New York has commented on the situation claiming that he's doing all he can to try and solve the hyper-realistic cake mystery, but he can only do so much to calm the fear and paranoia that has overcome New York.
Day 93 The situation has dramatically escalated even further somehow, as the hyper-realistic cake plague has now begun heavily affecting the nearby states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and even some parts of Canada. Reports are coming in from all over the USA and even some of Mexico and South America of people’s items suddenly being replaced with ominous (albeit, tasty) hyper-realistic cakes. The president is doing nothing to quell the fear of US citizens, claiming the whole situation is ridiculous and that everyone is a fool for buying into it. People are starting to riot in the streets believing the president is not doing enough to try and prevent the appearance of hyper-realistic cakes. Many other countries are beginning to consider closing off all travel to the USA out of fear, and some like Germany even going through with it. The safes people were using to hold their valuable items are no longer safe. Many have been discovered to have been replaced with hyper-realistic cakes, leading to even greater fear and paranoia among citizens. And the worst thing of all. The police officer who was in charge of the case in [REDACTED] New York was discovered by his wife the previous night to have been replaced with an identical hyperrealistic cake. There is no evidence of where he may have gone, and there is no evidence pointing to who might've taken him. He has seemingly disappeared without a trace.
Day 149 As fear was reaching its limits, a spark of hope managed to emerge. Tension has been rising as countries all over the world have been receiving reports of people disappearing, and being replaced with hyper-realistic cakes. Even including those that shut off travel to the USA. The president has continued to display pure apathy to the situation, claiming the whole thing to be a farce, until he discovered one morning his wife had been turned into a hyper-realistic cake. Outraged at this, he demanded the perpetrator be immediately found and caught. He banned the selling of any ingredients that could be used to make a hyper-realistic cake, including flour, sugar, eggs, butter, baking powder, chocolate, honey, macaroni and cheese (he does not know how to make a cake, and decided it was better safe than sorry). But even then, hyper-realistic cakes continued to appear. Now even houses and everything in them were getting replaced with giant hyper-realistic cakes, twice the size of an average human being. The president was getting desperate now and was willing to do anything to catch the man responsible for this. So he had cameras set up on every street in every city in every state across the entire USA. And he had every cop working 24/7 on the sight of each camera making sure nothing was replaced with a hyper-realistic cake, and if they were to see hyper-realistic cake-related activities, they were to press a button, sounding the alarm. Yesterday, after weeks and weeks of nothing. An extremely tired officer managed to catch a woman attempting to replace a baby with a hyper-realistic cake. The woman, upon being caught, would quickly admit she was behind the hyper-realistic cake shenanigans. She was immediately brought to Washington DC where the president would proceed to scream and cry at her for hours before demanding she be placed in a holding cell so she could be questioned the following day. This was quickly announced by White House officials and the world began celebrating, praising the president as a hero who was able to end the hyper-realistic cake plague. The joyful people of the world are currently awaiting a word from the US president on who this mysterious woman is, what her motives are and where she’s keeping all these missing people.
Day 180 To the horror of everyone around the globe, the following morning, all hope was lost and all dreams were dashed. The woman taken captive last night was found to have been replaced with a hyper-realistic cake, just as everyone was. The president demanded a search for any evidence indicating how she could've escaped, but they were unable to find anything. Even the cameras meant to keep track of the woman had mysteriously failed to capture anything the previous night. This was the breaking point for the president, and as a result of this, he'd soon become wrapped up in an extremely insane conspiracy. He'd soon begin to believe the cake was a being that was more powerful than any of them, and that it needed to be eradicated at all costs. The presidents would proceed to declare Marshall law and cut off all transport to other countries. People, seeing exactly what was going to happen, attempted to escape the country by piloting the planes and boats themselves. Only to discover the planes and boats were all hyper-realistic cakes, that were unable to fly and would easily sink in water. The president would also declare that all cake is to be thoroughly burned, and anyone believed to be a cake is to be executed on sight, preferably by being cut with a blade. The president would have all secret service agents executed, claiming that they were conspiring with the cake and aided the woman in escaping custody. But even if this wasn't enough for the president, soon he’d begin believing that other countries were made of cake too and declared that any countries believed to be “cake countries” would be bombed off the map. Starting with Mexico, he sent wave after wave of bombs to the country until he was sure anyone inside was dead. He'd soon turn his attention to Germany, believing that it was also a “cake country” due to them previously closing off transportation from the USA there. Soon, Germany was no more, and the president would celebrate that he had destroyed another “cake country”. It seemed like to the president, that every country except the USA was a cake country, and no amount of bombing he did would change that. Everyone knew the sheer amount of bombs he was using was going to destroy the planet, but he didn't care. But just as quickly as this began, it ended. Yesterday, a large angry mob stormed the White House. The president would attempt to bomb the mob, only to discover the bomb launchpad had been replaced with cake. The mob quickly overpowered anyone left supporting the president with sheer numbers, and they swiftly beat the president to death in a manner too disturbing to even attempt to describe. Blood was everywhere, but they didn't care anymore, the dictator was dead.
Day 294 Shortly after the president's death, the USA descended into chaos. People were still being replaced with cake, and nobody had any way to contact people outside the USA, as every single phone was seemingly now a hyper-realistic cake. Many don't even believe there's anyone left out there, and that they were all killed by the president. People quickly began to believe the president was right, and that all the other countries were now just cake. But they took it one step further, they now began to ponder if the entire globe itself was just one giant cake. People began getting so scared of others being cake, that they would attempt to cut anyone they meet just to see if they were cake. There is no food left now besides hyper-realistic cakes, and many are so scared of them that they refuse to even go near them, let alone attempt to eat them. Many are dying from starvation, and those willing to eat the cakes are usually branded as “cake people” and killed on sight. There's still no sign of the people who went missing and were replaced with hyper-realistic cakes. Many believe they just vanished from reality itself or that they were taken by the cake. Some people have begun to worship the cake as a god and make sacrifices to it believing it'll bring their loved ones back. Reality is crumbling, society has fallen apart and it won’t be long until humanity is gone.
Day 334 Not even a year following the first-ever incident, the last human being on earth has died today. Alone, cold and afraid. There is nothing left. No trees, no grass, no water, no animals, no humans, nothing. The only thing that remains now is the hyper-realistic cakes. And that, is the story, of how I destroyed humanity with FUCKING CAKES! I guess in the end you could say… it was real.

2024.05.29 05:05 exgxrx Do I need to include a prior suspension on my license when shopping for car insurance?

I’m 22f, currently on my parent’s car insurance but just bought a new car today in my name and will be paying my own insurance on it, also in my name.
Two years ago I got a speeding ticket and didn’t have the money to pay it off at the time and eventually forgot about it, which resulted in my license being suspended for about a week until I got my poop in a group and paid it off. This made parents insurance go up a bit but I helped pay.
Currently shopping around for the cheapest collision insurance for my car and when I opened the first website, it asked if the driver (myself) has “had an accident, claim, loss, moving violation or driver license suspension/revocation in the last 5 years” to which the answer would be yes, I had my license suspended. But do I need to include that in my new insurance since I was under my parent’s insurance when it happened?
