Hi guys, currently I own a mid-2010 13-inch MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM and the original HDD, which I have plugged into an external display (75Hz, Full HD). Since I'm planning to study computer science, I'm considering buying a new Mac from the M family. I guess upgrading my old Mac to 8GB of RAM and a Kingston SSD, and patching it onto Monterey via OpenCore Legacy, won't last long enough, am I right?
I have a small budget but want to get the maximum out of the M family Macs. I don't care about the storage on my Mac, as I have plenty of external disks. My main problem is that I don't know if I should choose 8 or 16GB of RAM, an Air or Pro MacBook, and which M processor to go for.

Hello I have an ultra-upgraded Power Macintosh 8500 that I'd like to mess around with PPC Linux on and I was wondering... Has anyone here ever gotten Adelie to install on such hardware? Mine has a PowerPC G3/300 MHz upgrade card in it with 512 MB of RAM (which was the most Apple supported back in the day, but its logic board supports a maximum of 1GB). I think it'd be fun to have Linux as the host OS and then use something like MaconLinux (if that's even still working) to run macOS in a virtualized environment along side Adelie or any other Linux that installs on the aforementioned PM8500. Thanks in advance for any clues lol

I recently upgraded to an M3, but I've noticed that some plugins have been faulty. Soothe2, for instance, seems to be completely incompatible. In the plugin manager, it says "crashed validation" under soothe2, and rescanning the audio unit doesn't seem to do anything. I've tried disabling/reactivating my iLok license for soothe, deleting its component files and reinstalling them from the official oeksound website, restarting Logic and my Mac, etc. I have also tried to use the oeksound uninstaller from the official oeksound website, which made me install Rosetta, but that didn't seem to do anything as well.
Whenever I have the soothe2 component files installed, I am unable to open any projects that include instances of it; it just says that Logic has ran into an issue with a specific plugin, and that the program needs to quit.
I am using a 2023 MacBook Pro M3 running Sonoma 14.4.1 and Logic Pro 11.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi i want to upgrade my laptop from macbook 2019 to a new one that can handle maya well! I don’t do a lot of rendering, so something that loads asset fast when i’m animating is nice. Right now mac is burned for files bigger than a bouncing ball.
I wonder which one is a better purchase? Ive filtered them to 4060 or 4070 to my friend recommendations. I wonder if ryzen is better than intel for my needs? Any tips welcome!

So, I am running Bias FX 2 Elite on my HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg0067st, which came with 12 GB of RAM and a 512 GB M.2 SSD for storage. I've noticed that sometimes, even when running in standalone mode, that I get artifacts in my tones, and other times, when I'm really jammin' and playing some heavier stuff the program will go from sounding really great, as it should, to just going off the wall, and getting ugly sounding, and at times will even cut the audio out all together.
I am curious as to what causes this. I guess it's also worth mentioning that I am plugging my guitar in to my Pavilion laptop via a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface (firmware version 1605) . Sample rate is 44.1 kHz, with a buffer size of 128. My round-trip latency is 15.2ms - (666 samples), and I am in "safe mode". I am getting ready to upgrade my PC since I am going to already be opening it up in order to install a new fan, which it needs just because the original one isn't doing so hot, and I don't like my laptop getting too, well, hot.
I plan on installing a Crucial 32 GB RAM kit (which will consist of two 16 GB sticks), as well as a storage upgrade in the form of a Crucial 2TB M.2 PCle NVMe SSD. These upgrades will obviously work wonders for my trusty laptop (which is about 3 years old at this point in time, and has been a great PC, which I have not had a single issue/problem with throughout the entire time I've owned it thus far) from many different angles, one of the biggest improvements of which, I assume will be my performance when using multiple plug-ins while recording/tracking in Reaper, in which I always only use either Bias FX 2 Elite, or Amplitube as far as my plug-ins are concerned.
I am just wondering if these audio anomalies and such which are occurring as I am playing guitar, might be another item which I might expect to see some improvement upon once I have completed these fixes and upgrades. I learned very early on, that if one expects to be able to play using BIAS FX 2, without experiencing a noticeable amount of latency (or any other plug-in for that matter), that RAM is one's best friend. The more RAM one has, the better these programs will run. More seamlessly, and with less latency. So, I know that I will be improving my usage of BIAS FX 2 Elite, I am just curious as to which ways I might expect to see noticeable improvements, aside from the fact that I should be able to get round-trip latency way down, to a point where it will not be noticeable at all anymore, and more like playing on an actual amplifier.
It's definitely sweet to be able to jam using my computer as a means of amplification. But any considering taking this leap for themselves, who have not already, be warned, it is absolutely NOT, just as simple as purchasing a license, downloading some software, and BOOM, you're in the game! Unfortunately, there is a great deal more involved than that, the main thing being, the fact that regardless whether you are sporting a MAC, or a PC, either way, it must be a relatively powerful machine. Positive Grid's website states that a minimum of 8 GB of RAM is required to run BIAS FX 2. However, based upon personal experience, and the fact that almost all of us are going to have other programs and apps being put to use on our computers, other than just what is necessary to play our guitars - think, DAWs for example... because chances are, if you are interested in playing guitar on your MAC or PC, then you are almost certainly going to want to start doing some tracking/recording as well... and that's still just sticking to the guitar related stuff - , I would highly recommend investing in a desktop, or laptop with absolutely no less than 16 GB of RAM.

Hello, I'm running a R740xd with two 6130s and a RTX 4070. Via Proxmox (qemu) VM & pcie passthrough, I play a lot of windows games including Battlefield, Hell Let Loose, Warno, Warthunder, Supcom, and more. I also run several LXCs but all aren't that demanding.
The thing is, Battlfield is the one yeiding the highest (~60) fps @ 4k, thanks to dlss. All others idle at 30fps, which is obviously due to the fact I'm using slow chunky server CPUs. As all my other machines are macs and I don't want to purchase a new Windows PC, I'm planning to simply upgrade the CPU for some performance gain.
Here comes the question: considering my use-case, will 6144 give some performance gain? I'm not sure if anyone on earth has experience in this situation, but I'm here to seek for help.

I have a 2017 iMac 27” Retina 5K with the i7-770k 16gb ram RX 575 4GB GPU
I purchased this Mac with a dead internal apple blade ssd. So cloning, backing up etc for this install will not be an option.
I have installed a Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card for Upgrade 2013-2015 Year Macs(Not Fit Early 2013 MacBook Pro). With a Samsung Evo 970 m.2 SSD.
I cannot get Mac OS of any kind to install I have tried Ventura, Catalina, Sierra. I get the same exact issue every time. Install goes totally normal I format the drive to apfs with guid partition table and then install. The installer gets about halfway or so through then the progress bar stops. The countdown continues to go down from 20 minutes or so until about 1-2 minutes then it reboots and I get an Apple logo with a progress bar and a message that say about 22minutes remaining. Then it will get about halfway through and reboot again. It will just continue to reboot over and over until I get an error message that says your computer restarted due to an error etc.
I have tried a 2.5” SSD, a 2.5” Mechanical drive, and now I have a WD SN 750 m.2 installed. All drives give the same exact issue.
I finally got fed up and installed windows so I could atleast confirm all my hardware is working correctly and temps are good and they are.
I have tried csrutil disable, naming the formatted drive Macintosh HD. Internet recovery, USB Recovery. Safe mode will load up but it basically freezes immediately.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know otherwise I’m going to install a modded version of Mac OS or just leave it on windows.

I have been fighting with my computer to fix an unknown issue with my games crashing for a couple weeks now.

I keep getting different error codes in event viewer or none at all, the main one being 0xc0000005, 0xc0000409, 0xC0000022, Metadata staging fails, DCOM related errors, amongst some others. Heres a list of the following games that i have tried and are guaranteed to crash within half an hour. My PC has never blue screened it's just my games that crash and throw errors.

This is what i have done so far to try and fix the issue:
-checked temps and usage of hardware using task manager everything looks good
-Reset my computer keeping no files
-reinstalled windows

-validated game files with no corrupted files
-pc health check is good
-pc benchmark says my computer is a space station
-malwarebytes scan with no virus's/malware detected
-underclocked my GPU using MSI afterburner -50 in both core and memory
-drivers are good in GeForce Experience and device manager
-bios are up to date
-downgraded to windows 10 (errors and crashing persisted)
-upgraded to windows 11 (errors and crashing persisted)
-tried to run my games using -dx11 in the launch options
-tried disabling real-time protection in windows defender
-chkdsk /f in cmd
-dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth in cmd
so far nothing has worked in fixing the issue, any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I currently have an M1 MacBook Air (base 8/256) and and M1 13" MacBook Pro (16/512). I have two because I used the Air for travel situations, but I've found recently that traveling with a 14" Pro is really not bad. I do love the ultra-portability of the Air, but I more love the 120 refresh rate, nicer display and better sound on the Pro. I would like to consolidate to just ONE laptop, and I was toying with the idea of trading in both of them for just one M3 Pro with nice specs.
For those who have upgraded from the M1 to M3, was there a noticeable difference? Both my Air and Pro still work well, but my concern is that their trade in value goes down as time passes, and I could get maximum trade in value if I do it now. Any feedback is appreciated. I'm upgrading from a 2017 iPad so I haven't familiarized myself with the new features of newer iPads.
I'm looking to avoid carrying a laptop if I can so I can travel lighter and just backup the photos from my mirrorless camera to an external SSD. Of course the laptop is the easiest and efficient way, but I cannot get a new MacBook just yet. Most of the search results I see are at least a few years old so I thought maybe iOS had new features since.
Just as important is whether the iPad is making a copy of the files on the internal storage before transferring it to the external SSD (ex. 128GB model iPad Pro can't transfer 256GB SD card content to external SSD in one go). Hi everyone, I'm really wanting to build a PC after being a MacBook user since high school :) I'm really mainly going to use it for work and playing older games that I have (portal, Skyrim, assassin's creed 1-4, sims, etc) and games like genshin impact, Dreamlight valley, etc. I already have a PS5 for AAA games. Here is the parts list I put together. I just wanted to get opinions on if a mini PC is a good idea for a beginner, or should I go with a full size tower? I just don't have a ton of desk space in my tiny apartment. Also, will building in a mini tower make it hard to upgrade in a few years (like when the PS6 would eventually come out...?) to play next gen AAA games? I have a 2019 MacBook Pro. I use it mainly for work, attached to a 42 inch 4k OLED screen (I work from home). I work in multiple windows at once but just on the one monitor. The most intensive work I do tends to be in excel, which has been struggling lately, and sometimes I use my MacBook for gaming when traveling. I also use ChatGPT a ton to assist and supplement my research and writing.
I was already thinking of an upgrade due to noticing more slowing down for big Excel processing tasks and more intensive tasks, as well as increasing compatibility issues. The announcement that ChatGPT will only release its app (which, again, I will use constantly) for Apple Silicon is pushing me over the edge on the upgrade.
I do need a laptop for meetings and travel, so Mac Mini/iMac isn't a great option for me. With the big monitor and my moderate use, will the MacBook Air M3 with 8GB be enough to get me through the next several years of AI advancements and increased processing needs? Should I upgrade to the MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and/or 16GB of RAM? If I only upgrade one (to the M3 Pro or more RAM), which would you choose?

Hi Apple friends! I currently have the most basic baseline M1 Mac mini, and I’m highly considering upgrading to the M3 pro MacBook Pro 16”. I used to have a 15” 2015 MacBook Pro that served me well for years but died in 2021 because of an issue with the motherboard (something happened where it always thought I had the command key pressed even when I did not- so I couldn’t type and it was basically useless. It is now collecting dust sadly). I got the Mac mini because I needed a computer for work and I needed it asap and cheap. Fast forward to now, the mini has held me down but the 8gb of ram is noticeable and I have gotten a good handful of warning messages that I am low on application memory. Uninstalling the Google chrome helper seems to have stopped those and I haven’t gotten one in a year but generally I know I am pushing this to its limits. I don’t do anything too processor heavy for work, everything I do is in Google chrome- gmail, Google sheets, Google docs, Google drive, etc. I typically have hundreds of tabs open and half of them have various Google sheets open. I work in payroll so I need fast access to records and it is simply easier to keep all the reports open on separate tabs than to dig through Google drive to find what I need. Anyways, my mom wants to get me a new laptop for my birthday and I’m going to give her my Mac mini M1 to replace her Mac mini from 2012. I’m eyeing the baseline 16” m3 pro MacBook Pro in space black. Would that be “worth it” or should I try to find the same model with M2 Pro or M1 Pro? I don’t need anything too crazy on the specs but I want it to have enough ram and the promotion display so I can scroll around my spreadsheets easier. I also prefer the largest screen size because the spreadsheets I work in are huge and every pixel counts. That space black looks stunning too (I know it’s not TRUE black but it is still sexy). What would y’all recommend?
