2024.05.15 22:29 Stoneward13 A Terrible Experience on Ruby Princess
We just returned from a 7 day Alaskan cruise to Glacier Bay, and it was honestly a terrible experience, all in all, and it was our first time cruising. I hope it's okay for us to share our experience here. I've seen many other posts here reviewing Princess cruises and sharing experiences, so hopefully this is okay.
Warning, this post is a
bit long. TL;DR, Princess dropped the ball multiple times, and created a terrible first time cruise experience for us.
- First, due to weather delays, our initial flight took off an hour late. Then, when going to land, our pilot missed the landing due to the wind, causing us to have to ascend again, loop around, and land again, all in very heavy turbulence. Our gate was on the other side of the airport, so we ran the distance between the two gates, and missed the gate closing by 1 minute. (Never mind the fact that the plane then sat on the tarmac for over an hour due to, you guessed it, weather delays). I mainly blame Denver Airport for this, but it's important context for how Princess handled what came next.
- All of those airport delays are not Princess's fault. What follows IS their fault, however. We booked these flights through Princess EZ Air, we figured this was a good idea as it had a guarantee we'd be on the boat when it set sail. That is how they market their "EZ Air" program. So, after missing our connecting flight, we call Princess, and they were absurdly unhelpful. They misunderstood what we said, they tried to blame us, and finally told us we just had to contact United Airlines to get a new flight, stating that United was responsible, not Princess. The issue here is their terribe customer service, to be clear. We shouldn't have had to fight with them.
- (EDIT: Many of the comments seem to interpret this as me blaming Princess. I do not blame them for the weather delays, and yes, we SHOULD have flown in the day before. But Princess Customer Servicer was combative and rude, and tried to blame us for missing the flights. Please read the entire post, there is multiple greivances here that are entirely on Princess's end.)
- United did get us a new flight, after 30 minutes of chatting, but the new flight was 2 hours later, and then on top of that, it was delayed another hour and a half. So by now, we're getting very worried that we don't arrive in time for departure in Vancouver now. We were supposed to arrive about 5 hours before departure.
- When we arrive in Vancouver, we have 1 hour to go before the ship departs, but we're still in the airport. After finally making it through customs and getting our luggage, we make it to the Princess representatives, as we paid extra to get a shuttle from the airport to the cruise docks. We've been running through the Vancouver airport for all this, and when we arrive, they tell us it's too late, they can't get us to the cruise ship in time, and we'll just have to call Princess customer support again.
- And now we're back to Princess being awful again. It took over an hour of being on hold, and explaining the situation multiple times to multiple people. The called dropped once too, and they never called back, despite me just giving them my callback number. We weren't the only passengers to have missed the ship, either, and all of our groups were struggling to get through to customer service.
- Again, they tried to blame us, stating that they saw "none of our flights were delayed", when they clearly had been, when we clearly told them they had been on multiple previous phone calls. After arguing with them for an hour, they finally agreed they'd get us on a plane to Juneau, and we could board the ship 2 days later. We would be responsible for our own hotels though. Lovely.
- We tried to make the best of it for those 2 days, but honestly, we were crushed. This was supposed to be a big vacation for us, my first time cruising, and a massive expense that was starting to feel like a an equally massive mistake.
- The hotels in Vancouver and Juneau were nice, but expensive. But that's not important to the story for now.
- Two days later, Ruby Princess pulls into dock at Juneau, and we head down to board finally. Except, this is where Princess drops the ball again. We were told to wait on the pier while everyone disembarked first. Making 4 people wait for 3000 to disembark is a joke. But what made it worse was it was raining, windy, cold as hell, no where to sit, the security staff were being weird and defensive, and the best part, Princess ended up forgetting about us on the pier for 3 hours. Guests that had left while we waited had gone into town and returned while we were told to wait.
- I ask the security personel for what must have been the 10th time if they could check up on what's going on. Twenty minutes later, someone comes down to take us on board. We were told we needed to take our own luggage on board, and Princess made no accomodation for my ankle injury, or my wife's hand injury.
- Once inside the ship, they told us how sorry they were, they had been expecting us, but they weren't sure where communication had broken down. The head security woman told us they would be in contact with us to discuss the situation. However, she never called, and we never saw her again.
- At this point, we're finally on board, and we just want to put all this crap behind us, and try to enjoy the remainder of the cruise. And there were certainly good parts. Alaska is beautiful, the towns we visited were great, Glacier Bay is breathtaking, and we even saw the northern lights a bit. In Princess's defense, the food was also delicious. On the flip side, there was never any explanation about how things worked on the ship. We were never told how our medallions functioned by the crew, we just kind of figured it out on our own.
- We went down to talk to guest services two days later. They offered us a 1000$ credit for a future cruise, but my wife and I aren't really pleased with Princess, so why would we want to cruise with them again? We declined. They told us they would come back to us with another offer, but it would be lower, but wouldn't tell us how much lower. A bit odd.
- Final day of the cruise, they come back and offer us 200$ of on-ship credit. We declined, and they said if we had any greivances still, we'd need to talk to on-shore customer service. It's almost like they had forgotten entirely how awful our experience had been... which honestly, might be exactly what happened.
- While on board, we had a mixed bag of experiences. There was a sickness outbreak, and this seemed to cause a large portion of the crew to call out sick. This caused wait times for food, drinks, and dining, to sometimes exceed over an hour. Often, we would put in an order, and it would eventually be marked "delivered", but we never saw it. I don't blame Princess for this, they were taking precautions to prevent the spread of sickness, but it sort of compounded on top of our already poor experience.
- When it came time to disembark, they gave us the wrong color of luggage tags, and we had to correct this with guest services as well. This took well over an hour, as the line was long.
- Then when it came time to be transported via bus from cruise dock to airport, they got us to the airport after several delays, and only 1 hour to spare for us to get through international customs. It was yet again another terrible mad dash through the airport, and Princess to blame. Princess EZ Air, if nothing else, is a total scam. If you are cruising through Princess, you are better booking your own flights and arriving the day before.
- And now here we are, finally home. I loved the parts of the cruise that went well, namely Alaska itself, but Princess seemed to drop the ball at every point. We couldn't be more disappointed, and will absolutely be avoided Princess and their affiliated cruise lines in the future.
- And lastly, after contacting Princess customer support now we are home, we're told it will be 4 to 6 weeks for our support tickets to be reviewed (and I gotta say, I'm pretty convinced they are gonna get lost in the shuffle, and/or be denied).
So, I'd love to know, is our story completely unusual? It seems like everything that could go wrong, DID go wrong. Is there any avenues to negotiate some kind of partial refund with Princess, for them to make this right? I've put in support tickets, but my faith that they will process them and make it right is supremely low.

2024.05.15 19:47 hrufescens How to ship hot rocks
Can anyone point me to a resource on how to ship radioactive rocks in the U.S.? Airlines, for instance, say “no radioactive items”, yet I don’t see people slammed to the wall in security, having to surrender any bananas in their carry on. Seriously, though, I’m doing a little uranium hunting on an upcoming trip to Oregon, and wonder if I can take a few specimens back on the plane, ship it via ground, etc. I’m familiar with 10CFR49, having worked on nuclear transportation most of my career. I suppose one could show that their samples didn’t meet the 2 nCi/g threshold, but that seems painful for a handful of specimens. I can just see going through the calculations for an impatient TSA agent. Is there a de minimis rule, or any other kind of exclusion used by airlines and ground carriers? Any help much appreciated…

2024.05.15 19:30 Ok_Bread_3145 Zabinzero Classic Pro Backpqck 32L - opinions?
Hi all. Been looking for a travel (personal carry) / hinking / EDC backpack - the holy grail, which I know doesn't exist, but I try to see if I can find something that works for me. I read multiple reddit threads and it's indeed hard to find a backpack that can fit budget airlines as a personal item, be comfortable for hours of hinking/city tours, be light, fit a 14 inch laptop and also have a waist belt to distribute the weight (which I know is not really compatible with the height of a personal item dimensions of 40cm).
The closest I could find is the ULA Dragonfly which is kind of expensive at around 350euro (270euro + 80euro shipping - I live in Europe).
A more rezonabile priced option is the cabinzero CLASSIC PRO 32L -
https://www.cabinzero.com/products/classic-pro-32l-absolute-black - 46 x 31 x 20 cm dimensions which can be squeezed a bit to fit 40cm of RyanaiWizzair
- waist belt - I'm not tall at all - 168cm, so hopefully the belt will fit me well
- water bottle
- external compression straps
- decent thick back straps and back panels that make me feel it should be comfortable to carry (not to mention it has a waist strap that should help for long hour carry)
The main cons I find are: - heavier weight at 1.2 kg - awkward laptop sleeve in the front??? No idea why someone would carry a laptop in the front pocket! It would make an awful load distribution. - the other place to store a laptop is in the main compartment (which I don't mind), but it would have been really good to have a zipper at the back of the bag to access it from the top instead of having to open the main compartiment and access it from underneath all the items inside (I have the classic 28L from cabinzero and this bothers me a lot)
There are few reddit posts about this bag. Does anyone have experience with this bag? Can you share your thoughts and experience in owning this bag?
PS: I'm also looking at Patagonia Mini MLC 30L - but it seems it's rather big in width at 50cm, which could theoretically be squished to 40cm but i'm worried about how the items in the bag will wobble inside if 10cm need to be loose and without any compression straps inside or outside. Also, at my height of 168cm, it would probably look too big on me. I'm also not sure about the waist belt not being fixed - does it actually work and distributes the load on the hips?
Thanks a lot for your answers!

2024.05.15 18:43 Aniae-88 Anyone used a Miamily luggage on a United airline flight as a carry on recently?
I’m considering buying the Miamily luggage since I will be traveling alone with my toddler. United gave me the measurements for the carry on and the miamily is a couple inches a bit bigger than what they said. I was wondering if anyone has traveled with United recently and was able to pass with the Miamily 20’ without any issues?

Travelling with wedding dress
Hello!
Looking to read people’s experiences with bringing along a wedding dress on board (not checking it in). If it matters, we are looking strictly at direct flight to Europe where our wedding will take place.
Some questions I had:
Did you have to consult customer service before or after booking tickets regarding storing the wedding dress on the flight?
When booking a ticket, was there a certain process to request to have the wedding dress allowed on the flight (in addition to the carry on)?
Was there an extra charge for this?
Was air transat overall accommodating to this request?
We haven’t booked our flights yet as we are debating between airlines and hearing peoples experiences will help us decide which airline to go with!
Thank you kindly for the advice!

2024.05.15 18:21 Striking-Ostrich-222 Backpack and Carry On recommendations
Hello! Heading to Europe in DecembeJanuary for two weeks. Going to be in France and Belgium for a week, and the UK for a week.
Looking for a travel backpack that fits under an airline seat (JetBlue), and a decent sized carry on.
We will not be backpacking, but the backpack would likely be used for some overnight trips and a two day trip to Belgium. Also as my travel backpack moving forward, so ideally it is useful for air travel and tech organization, but also to pack clothes for short trips as well.
Any recommendations will help, thanks!

2024.05.15 17:43 thinkingstranger May 14, 2024
Today the White House announced tariffs on certain products imported from China, including steel and aluminum products, semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries and battery components, solar cells, ship-to-shore cranes, syringes and needles, and certain personal protective equipment (or PPE). According to the White House, these higher tariffs are designed “to protect American workers and businesses from China’s unfair trade practices.” Tariffs are essentially taxes on imported goods, and altogether the tariff hikes cover about $18 billion in imported goods.
In 2018, Trump abruptly ended the economic era based on the idea that free trade benefited the global economy by putting tariffs of 25% on a wide range of foreign made goods. This was a cap to a set of ideas that had been sputtering for a while as industries moved to countries with cheaper labor, feeding the popular discontent Trump tapped into. Trump claimed that other countries would pay his tariffs, but tariffs are actually paid by Americans, not foreign countries, and his have cost Americans more than $230 billion. Half of that has come in under the Biden administration.
Trump’s tariffs also actually cost jobs, but they were very popular politically. A January 2024 National Bureau of Economic Research working paper by David Autor, Anne Beck, David Dorn, and Gordon H. Hanson established that the trade war of 2018–2019 hurt the U.S. heartland but actually helped Trump’s reelection campaign. “Residents of regions more exposed to import tariffs became less likely to identify as Democrats, more likely to vote to reelect Donald Trump in 2020, and more likely to elect Republicans to Congress,” they discovered.
Now Trump is saying, that if elected, he will impose a 10% tariff on everything imported into the United States, with a 60% tariff on anything from China and a 100% tariff on any cars made outside the U.S.
In contrast, the administration’s new tariffs are aimed only at China, and only at industries already growing in the U.S., especially semiconductors. Tariffs will rise to 50% on semiconductors and solar cells, 100% on electric vehicles, and 25% on batteries, a hike that will help the Big Three automakers who agreed to union demands in newly opened battery factories, as well as their United Auto Workers workforce. “I’m determined that the future of electric vehicles be made in America by union workers. Period,” Biden said.
The administration says the tariffs are a response to China’s unfair trade practices, and such tariffs are popular in the manufacturing belt of Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Democratic senators from that region have asked Biden to maintain or increase tariffs on Chinese imports after “[g]enerations of free trade agreements that prioritize multinational corporations have devasted our communities, harmed our economy, and crippled our job market.”
In other economic news, a new rule capping credit card late fees at $8, about a quarter of what they are now, was supposed to go into effect today, but on Friday a federal judge in Texas blocked the rule. The new cap was set by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the brainchild of Massachusetts Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren, and was part of the Biden administration’s crackdown on “junk fees.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Bankers Association sued to stop the rule from taking effect, and U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman, appointed by Trump, issued a preliminary injunction against it. His reasoning draws from an argument advanced by the far-right Fifth Circuit, which oversees Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, arguing that the CFPB itself is unconstitutional because of its funding structure. "Consequently, any regulations promulgated under that regime are likely unconstitutional as well," Pittman wrote.
On Friday, major airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines—but not Southwest Airlines—sued the U.S. Department of Transportation over its new rule that requires the airlines disclose their fees, such as for checking bags, upfront to consumers. The department says consumers are overpaying by $543 million a year in unexpected fees.
The airlines say that the rule will confuse consumers and that its “attempt to regulate private business operations in a thriving marketplace is beyond its authority.”
The other big story of the day is the continuing attempt of the MAGA Republicans to overturn our democratic system.
This morning, House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), second in line for the presidency and sworn to uphold the Constitution, left his post in Washington, D.C., to appear with former president Trump at his trial for falsifying business records to deceive voters before the 2016 election. The House was due to consider the final passage of the crucially important Federal Aviation Authority Reauthorization Act, but Johnson chose instead to show up to do the work the judge’s gag order means Trump cannot do himself, attacking key witness Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer. Johnson described Cohen as “clearly on a mission for personal revenge” and, citing his “history of perjury,” said that “[n]o one should believe a word he says in there.”
“I do have a lot of surrogates,” Trump boasted this morning, “and they are speaking very beautifully.” Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), who was also at the trial this morning, later said on Newsmax that they had indeed gone to “overcome this gag order.”
Johnson went on to call the trial “corrupt” and say “this ridiculous prosecution…is not about justice. It’s all about politics.” He left without taking questions. Meg Kinnard of the Associated Press called out the moment as “a remarkable moment in modern American politics: The House speaker turning his Republican Party against the federal and state legal systems that are foundational to the U.S. government and a cornerstone of democracy.”
Peter Eisler, Ned Parker, and Joseph Tanfani of Reuters explained today how those attacks on our judiciary are sparking widespread calls for violence against judges, with social media posters in echo chambers goading each other into ever more extreme statements. According to her lawyer, Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, wore a bullet-proof vest as she came and went from court, an uncanny echo of the precautions necessary in mob trials.
In a different attack on our constitutional system, House Republicans are trying to replace the administration’s foreign policy with their own. Over the weekend, they introduced a bill to force President Biden to send offensive weapons to Israel for its invasion of Rafah, overruling the administration’s decision to withhold a shipment of 2,000-pound and 500-pound bombs after Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his government would invade Rafah despite strong opposition from the Biden administration.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters: “We strongly, strongly oppose attempts to constrain the president’s ability to deploy a U.S. security assistance consistent with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.”
The Constitution establishes that the executive branch manages foreign affairs, and until 2015 it was an established practice that politics stopped at the water’s edge, meaning that Congress quarreled with the administration at home but the two presented a united front in foreign affairs. That practice ended in March 2015, when 47 Republican senators, led by freshman Arkansas senator Tom Cotton, wrote a letter to Iran’s leaders warning that they would not honor any agreement Iran reached with the Obama administration over its development of nuclear weapons.
The Obama administration did end up negotiating the July 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran and several world powers, under which Iran agreed to restrict its nuclear development and allow inspections in exchange for relief from economic sanctions. In 2018 the extremist Republicans got their way when Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal, largely collapsing it, after which Iran resumed its expansion of the nuclear enrichment program it had stopped under the agreement.
Now extremists in the House are trying to run foreign policy on their own. The costs of that usurpation of power are clear in Niger, formerly a key U.S. ally in the counterterrorism effort in West Africa. The new prime minister of Niger, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, whose party took power after a coup d’état threw out Niger’s democratically elected president, defended his country’s turn away from the U.S. and toward Russia in an interview with Rachel Chason of the
Washington Post. Recalling the House’s six month delay in passing the national security supplemental bill, he said: “We have seen what the United States will do to defend its allies, because we have seen Ukraine and Israel.”

Thoughts: I wouldnt do this again. Carrying a Brompton in a dimpa bag through the airport is heavier than I thought. I a 5 feet 7 women, who workout quite a bit so I'd assume my muscles would carry me through, but man oh man, the bike gets heavy after a while. In the future: I just bought a bike cover on AliXpress that allows you to still push the bike in cart mode. Will try that next time. 2024.05.15 15:51 chiphelsea4 Airlines That Disallow CPAP as Free Carry-on
I have always assumed that CPAP is a free carry-on. But apparently, it is not for some airlines? In the US, CPAP are free carry-on.
- What airlines have you to before that rejected CPAP as a free carry-on?
- How did you know about it?
- What did you do? Did you still book with that airlines?
Note: Aer Lingus - apparently does not allow CPAP as free carry-on.
Here's the airlines that I have used, and CPAP was a free carry-on (I mean I have always assumed it was free and so I didn't bother thinking about it before).
- Air Canada
- United Airlines
- Lufthansa
- EVA Air
- Aegean Air
- RyanAir
- Korean Air
- Asiana Airlines
- WestJet
- Austrian Airlines
Also, I will be using Turkish Airlines and Tarom in a couple of weeks, has anyone used them and is CPAP considered a free carry-on?

Evaluating the Risks: Traveling During the First Trimester Traveling during the first trimester can be considered safe for most pregnant women. However, it is important to understand and evaluate the potential risks involved before making any travel plans. One of the main concerns when flying during pregnancy is the risk of blood clots, also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Changes in blood flow and pressure can increase this risk, so it's crucial to take necessary precautions. To minimize these risks, make sure to wear compression stockings or socks, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and avoid crossing your legs for prolonged periods. Another concern is the exposure to radiation from airport security scanners or cosmic rays during high-altitude flights. While the level of radiation exposure is generally low and unlikely to cause harm, it's still advisable to limit unnecessary exposure. Opting for alternative screening methods at airports or avoiding frequent air travel may provide peace of mind. Furthermore, morning sickness and fatigue are common symptoms experienced during the first trimester. These discomforts may be exacerbated by air travel due to changes in cabin pressure and motion sickness. It's essential to listen to your body's cues and rest whenever needed. Navigating the Middle Ground: Traveling During the Second Trimester Finding a good balance, many expecting mothers opt to travel during their second trimester. This is often considered the safest time to travel as most pregnancy-related complications are less likely to occur compared to the first and third trimesters. During this period, you can still enjoy exploring new destinations while managing your pregnancy symptoms. When planning your trip, it's important to choose pregnancy-friendly destinations that offer easy access to medical facilities and have a favorable climate. Consider locations with mild weather and avoid places with extreme temperatures or high altitudes that may put unnecessary stress on your body. Additionally, ensure that the destination has safe and reliable transportation options. To make your travel experience more comfortable, it's essential to manage common pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, and swollen feet. Take frequent breaks during sightseeing activities, stay hydrated, and listen to your body when it needs rest. Pack comfortable clothing and shoes that accommodate any swelling in your feet or ankles. Here's a helpful table outlining some key considerations for traveling during the second trimester: Consideration Tips Choose Pregnancy-Friendly Destinations Accessible medical facilities; favorable climate Manage Pregnancy Symptoms Take frequent breaks; stay hydrated; pack comfortable clothing Remember to consult with your healthcare provider before making any travel plans and follow their recommendations for a safe journey. Considerations for Late Stage Travel: Traveling During the Third Trimester In the third trimester, it's crucial to prioritize comfort and safety when making travel plans. As your pregnancy progresses, there may be certain travel restrictions you need to consider. It's important to consult with your healthcare provider before embarking on any trips during this stage. Some airlines may have policies restricting travel after a certain week of pregnancy, so it's essential to check their guidelines beforehand. Managing discomfort during late stage travel is also a key consideration. As your belly grows bigger and heavier, you may experience increased back pain and fatigue. It's advisable to choose comfortable modes of transportation that allow for frequent breaks and ample legroom. Plan for regular stretching exercises or short walks during long journeys. Additionally, pack essentials like snacks, water, and pillows for added comfort during the trip. Wearing loose-fitting clothing and supportive footwear can also help alleviate discomfort. Now that we've discussed considerations for late stage travel, let's move on to special considerations for high-risk pregnancies: traveling safely. Special Considerations for High-Risk Pregnancies: Traveling Safely If you have a high-risk pregnancy, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider before making any travel plans. Your safety and the well-being of your baby are paramount, so taking certain precautions is crucial. Here are some tips to help you travel safely and stay comfortable during your journey. It's also essential to have a contingency plan in case of any medical emergencies that may arise during your trip. When it comes to traveling, consider choosing destinations that are closer to home and have access to adequate medical facilities. It's also advisable to avoid destinations with higher altitudes or extreme climates. During long journeys, whether by car or plane, take frequent breaks to stretch your legs and avoid sitting for extended periods. Wear loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes that won't restrict circulation. Additionally, staying hydrated is vital, so drink plenty of water throughout the trip. Finally, pack all necessary medications and relevant medical records in case of emergencies. Remember to follow any dietary restrictions recommended by your healthcare provider. Tips for a Smooth Travel Experience: Preparing for Your Journey To ensure a smooth travel experience, it is essential to plan ahead and gather all necessary documents and essentials before your journey. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, having a preparing checklist can help you stay organized and prepared. Before you embark on your trip, make sure to check off these items from your list. First and foremost, don't forget your essential travel documents. This includes your passport, visa (if required), driver's license, and any other identification that may be necessary. It's also a good idea to make copies of these documents in case of loss or theft. Next, consider any additional documentation that may be required based on your destination or purpose of travel. For example, if you're traveling with children who are not your own, you may need written permission from their parents or legal guardians. If you have any medical conditions or allergies, it's advisable to carry relevant medical records or doctor's notes. Other essentials to remember include travel insurance information, emergency contact numbers both at home and abroad, as well as any necessary prescriptions or medications. 2024.05.15 13:51 Throwaway21092109 Are hand baggage checked when connecting in Saudi Arabia from/to UK/US
Has anyone from the UK or US had to go through security or had hand baggage checked when flying somewhere via Saudi Arabia?
About to book flights london -> JEDDAH -> Jakarta. It says on the hand baggage rules for Saudi Airlines that only 2 electronics are allowed.
"b. Allowable items in carry-on baggage, such as:
Mobiles , Notebook, Backup power, Power pack, Power case , Power Bank , Radio-controlled toy and Nail polish etc. The items are allowed in hand carry bags with maximum of 2 pieces only."
I was planning on bringing multiple electronics, camera, gopro, two phones (one spare) and two powerbanks. But from what I can tell, individual airlines don't check hand baggage, it's down to airport security, so I wasn't too bothered because I knew there wouldn't be an issue at Heathrow.
But then I also found on the Saudia website that hand baggage is checked on flights coming from the UK and US:
"For security purposes all carry-on baggage will be checked by security officers for flights arriving and departing to/from USA and UK including all electronic devices (as Smart phones, Cameras, Laptops, I pads, smart watches ...etc.)"
Has anyone flown from/to USA or UK via Saudi Arabia (and please specify airline) carrying more than two phones or powerbanks, or know if cabin baggage is checked?
Edit: Just called them again, turns out its two items of electronics. But you can have two of each. So two phones, two powerbanks, etc

2024.05.15 12:34 FrontImportance5113 Nightmare Flight with United Airlines: No Bassinet for 22 Hours!
On May 12, we boarded a United Airlines flight from ORD to SFO, then on to HKG, carrying our three-month-old baby. Prior to purchasing our tickets, I called the airline to ensure a baby bassinet would be available, and they confirmed it would be. We double-checked at ORD, where staff confirmed that while domestic legs don't have bassinets, the international leg would.
Imagine our dismay when we boarded the long-haul to HKG and found out there was no bassinet at our seat. Exhausted, we sought help from the flight crew, only to be met with indifference; their responses were, "I don't know" and "There is nothing I can do."
We were forced to hold our infant for the entire 22-hour flight. This not only caused us immense stress and physical discomfort but also put our baby at risk. We feel deceived and severely let down by United Airlines. I'm currently seeking medical advice for my baby, and I am considering further actions against the airline for their negligence and false assurances.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with airlines not providing promised amenities?

2024.05.15 10:37 M1lk_4_Kh0rn3 New sub-faction ideas for Kane Wrath #7 Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (GDI)
| "Greeting Brothers and Sisters, today we bring you grave news. The sun we though had set long ago had risen again. Those remained from wars of fifty years ago revived from their tombs, readied to served their GDI masters once more. Our brother in China once underestimated them, now they are trampled under their feet. I fear we will faced them soon." Brother Duc, a Confessor in Ho Chi Minh city. Konnichiwa, Annyeong hasimnikka and hello guys and girls. I'm back with the third trilogy of homebrew sub-factions. This time, we'll take a look to the far east, where the Empire of Rising Sun used to be, at least in Red Alert 3 timeline. In the lands of Korean Peninsula and Japan Island, a branch of GDI, the Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (J-KDI) is in charge. This concept based on the Empire of Rising Sun from RA3 with many touches to fit in the scenario of the Tiberium Universe. As this region unique geography, society, economical and technological advances, the sub-faction leaned more toward urban warfare, drone combat and the fragile but versatile mech walker. As you already know, the Steel Talon also favor walkers but their mech are crude, rugged and focus on late-game punch, J-KDI mechs are more futuristic, high-tech, highly versatile, which is an odd for GDI doctrine, but when taking their operating region into account, the feat seem not very complicated, as Japan and Korea are the least suffered from the first two Tiberium Wars and designated as Blue Zones (Yes, even North Korea is a Blue Zone, maybe Kane get scared, who know?). So, without any further ado, let dive in. Disclaimer: As always, The image I used in the Post below is from various source on the internet such as CnC wiki and Deviantart to give reader a better look at my idea. If you you felt uncomfortable with this, please let me know in the comment below and I'll remove them ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ J-KDI insignia Lore Originally created by the United Nations as a branch of GDI in charge of Japan and Korean region and after decades maintaining security and prosperity with advancing in technologies, J-KDI is one of the most renowned division within GDI. They often active in Japan Main Islands and Korean Peninsula, which saw little Tiberium infestation and stable politic and economic environments. During the chaotic time before the Second Tiberium War, the three governments met with GDI presentative and strike a deal: The three countries will accept GDI officials, tactics, policies and complied to mobilization orders in exchange for maintaining their own decree of independent, including the right to command and develop their own army with access to some GDI technologies. This deal has led to the birth a semi-independent regional forces within GDI, known as Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (J-KDI). One of J-KDI unique characteristic is due to they mostly operate in large city, thus their arsenal is modified to suit urban combats. With their freedom in R&D and a huge sum of budget to do so, their units seem more futuristic and sometime unrealistic compare to normal GDI war machines. Most noticeable is they managed to recovered old prototypes from older projects, upgraded and let them enter services once again. With North Korea also in the mix, J-KDI also employed well trained armed military polices and tactical nuclear ballistic weapons. On the other side, J-KDI saw limited use of aircraft and cannot access to Ion Cannons due to GDI constrictions, however, they soon found out other "solutions" to fulfill their role. In recent years, J-KDI had found a new talent, Dr. Liang, brother of Jade Liang, a NOD notorious commander. Dr. Liang worked side by side with his sister Jade in the GDI research labs until they were both accidentally exposed to raw Tiberium. Liang chose to amputate his arm rather than succumb to mutation. He now dedicates himself to finding ways to heal wounds of all kinds with most of his research into pilotless vehicles. And Dr. Liang, who in need of a sponsor met with J-KDI, who scouting for talents in robotics and drone vehicles, thus Dr. Liang was recruited as chief scientist and a battle commander for J-KDI. His contributed in drones and AI developments helped J-KDI advanced further to their vision of a futuristic army, until the end of Third Tiberium War, that is ... Building - Can not build Airfield.
- Can not build Combat Support Airfield.

Defense - Missile Silo replaces Ion Cannon: Sponsored by United Republic of Korea, these things make NOD green with envy. It can launch a tactical nuclear strike delivered by an ICBM with 5 tactical nuclear MIRV warheads at the target location anywhere on the map. If this is not enough, J-KDI commanders can purchase additional warheads at the Silo. Each warheads cost 1500$ and each ICBM can carry 10 warheads at most.
The Missile Silo ready to deliver it payloads Infantry - Riot Squad replaces Riflemen Squad: Basic infantry/policeman armed with mini assault rifles, riot shield and flash bang. They are studier but slower than their counterpart and trained to clear garrisoned building. On the flip side, they can throw flash bang at enemies infantry, which stunned for a while.

- Striker-VX: Anti-air walker that can spew out surface-to-air missiles into air. It can upgraded to transform into the Chopper-VX, to combat incoming ground targets with air-to-surface missiles. Require Command Post.
- Megalodon: Powerful assault walker designed for melee combat with plasma blade, excellence durability and quite fast (for a heavy tank). It also immune to hijacking, mind control and only slowed down by EMP effects. Commandos, however, can plant charges on it legs to bring it down. It leaves behind a husk when destroyed, which can be captured or destroyed. Require Tech Center.
The Assault APC (From Generals 2), the Tengu, VX (both from Red Alert 3) and the mighty Megalodon (from Reign of Steel mod) Aircraft - Cannot build any "traditional" aircraft.

- Expanded Missile Pods: Expands the Missile Pods for Pitbull and Striker-VX, allowing more missiles per salvo. Purchase at Tech Center.
- Hydrogen Fuel Cells: Increase Robo Tengu, Striker-VX and Megalodon speed by 33%. Megalodon also gain immunity from EMP effect. Purchase at Tech Center.
Support Power - Cannot use Orca Strike and Bloodhounds.
- GDI Airborne summon two Riot Squads and two Missile Squads instead of two Rifle Squads and two Missile Squads.
- Drone Strike: Call in kamikaze drone which crashes itself onto targeted area, explode and causing high damage. Summon 3 drones initially but every GDI War Factory present on the battlefield will release an additional Hunter-Seeker drone upon activation. Require Command Post.
- Instant Service: Call in a flock of 3 Service Drones with timed life anywhere on the map that can heal and repair adjacent allies units. Require War Factory.
Notable Events - Clear House. Location: Kobe, Japan. After the Firestorm Crisis, Empire of Japan and the United Republic of Korea, designated as Blue Zones B-6 and B-7, entered a decade of rapid development thanks to geography locations, efficient governments and technological advances. But shadows of previous conflicts still remained and now, they stir once again. Dr. Liang, a newly appointed chief scientist of J-KDI, accompanied by Battle Commander Sato in a riot control mission in Kobe. The investigators discovered that riots incited by the local Yakuza and backed by NOD. A MCV with escort arrived and quelled the riots by destroyed all hidden NOD infrastructures around the city. At one of the base, J-KDI found documents about a large operation in nearby Osaka Port.
- Hand of Darkness. Location: Osaka, Japan. From the documents J-KDI discovered NOD had secretly taken control of Osaka Port operations through several Yakuza shell companies. There, they established a base, hidden by Disruption Towers to wait for a "special shipment" arrive. J-KDI sent a Commando task force to intercept the cargo. As the Commando arrived, he cut through NOD patrols and secured the cargo ship. With the cargo carried away by a V-35 Ox, J-KDI sent in their MCV to build a base and proceed to eliminate NOD presence in the port.
- Hidden Vipers. Location: Ningbo, China. The cargo contained parts of a liquid Tiberium base explosive device and from NOD captives and documents, they intended stage a "test" in Tokyo area. This information raised concern for both J-KDI and GDI alike as such attack will cause massive casualties. Doctor Liang traced back the device is manufactured in Ningbo, China and had signatures of his sister, Jade Liang, now a defector. GDI Council authorized a joined assault on China Yellow Zone and put a stop to these devices production. After a bombardment, Steel Talon vanguards landed at the port while J-KDI mech wings escort Hovercraft upstream Yong Jiang river to strike at the rear. However, the city is defended by Emerald Vipers, a NOD faction specialized in toxic and liquid-T weapon. The Vipers led by Jade resisted fiercely to defend their facilities but crushed eventually. Jade escaped with only a handful of troops and GDI claimed their victory.
- Incoming Storm. Location: Tumangang, North Korea. Several years passed since NOD Incursion and GDI slowly diminished their military forces. But J-KDI still maintained their semi-independent status and continued to developed new weapons. Recently, there words of a huge NOD armored column pushed down from Siberia toward the Korean Peninsula. Commander Sato had been mobilized to Tumangang in the Russia-North Korea border to intercept NOD advance. He arrived and begin fortified river crossing just before NOD first wave arrived. After the first wave intercepted, second wave arrived and set up shops at the opposite river bank. From there, NOD aircraft and infantry can support the third and fourth wave directly, giving Sato a hard time, however, no vehicle crossed the river. Just before the last wave, Sato receive information about the attacks on GDSS Philadelphia and Japan. He quickly finished the last wave and returned to Japan.
- Day at the bay. Location: Yokohama, Japan. NOD attacked a GDI Council's installations in Yokohama and J-KDI called in as reinforcement to take back Ion Cannon Control Centers there. However, there early reports that another GDI force already there. Feeling something amiss, Commander Sato send a Commando and a Sniper Team to investigate the situation. Turned out, a GDI Insurgent, the Dark Eyes Insurgency (D.E.I) had taken control of the Ion Control Centers there and in process of stealing an Ion Cannon for there usage. After a brief skirmish, Sato cannot stop the D.E.I from finished taking control an Ion Cannon. At this point, the D.E.I commander propose a deal with Sato, as they willingly to help him take back the vital port of Yokohama in exchange for a blind eye, as GDI Council not giving J-KDI access to Ion Cannon Network either. Having no better choice, Sato agreed and the combined GDI wiped out remaining NOD foothold in Yokohama. Before leaving, the D.E.I generously provide Sato a shocking new: Dr. Liang life is under threat by his little sister, as she going to attack at San Diego Conference, where Dr. Liang and many GDI top scientist currently in.
- Santa Coming, Too. Location: San Diego, California. Dr. Liang and San Diego base had been warned about the coming of NOD forces. However, the defense of the base fall in local GDI hands, as Dr. Liang forces are only a handful of guards and mechs. As the Vipers approached, they were caught surprised by J-KDI transform mechs and Vipers aircraft soon removed out the sky as their home Air Tower destroyed. This angered Jade and she soon send in more troops to the meat grinder. In the moment the base about to fall, an APCOM reinforcement wing arrived and bombed NOD forces to oblivion. Jade herself forced to abandoned the battle, leaving behind many Vipers casualties behind.
- Relics of the Past. Location: Point Hope, Alaska. Having stabilized the Blue Zones, GDI High Command planned for a retaliation strike at NOD. J-KDI Command didn't sit still either, as they're dangerously close to the China Yellow Zone. However, to J-KDI also lack the capability to strike deep into China mainland where NOD headquarter is. Dr. Liang proposed a bold idea: by using an old experimental device Allied forces used during the Third World War, they can teleport a limited number of vehicle directly at NOD headquarter and destroy NOD from inside out. However, this device currently mothballed in a abandoned base in Alaska, with rumors of NOD activities in the region. As the plan when through by GDI High Command, Dr. Liang and Sato lead and expedition to dig out the old Chronosphere and charged it to full. While Dr. Liang busy restore and recharge the Chronosphere, Commander Sato take charge of a naval battle with two NOD Battleships and their escort.
- Chrono You Didn't. Location: Nanchang, China. With the old Chronosphere device fully charged, J-KDI begin their raid on NOD Asian Headquarter in China. After clear out a NOD outpost, a MCV with some mech teleported and begin set up shops at the west bank of the river. Local Black Hand alerted of J-KDI presence and sent a Purifier with a few Scorpions to intercept GDI but soon torn to shed by mech reinforcement. This, however, do not deter the Black Hand and NOD from sending in more troop and vehicles at the J-KDI base, stalling J-KDI advance for a time. After a few round of reinforcements, Dr. Liang inform commander Sato that the Chronosphere will reach it limit soon, but a ZOCOM commander volunteer to arrived at a last batch reinforcement. A ZOCOM MCV with some vehicle and two MARVs soon teleported in was the last reinforcement, but they are more than enough. Together with ZOCOM, J-KDI pushed forward and even destroyed a Black Hand Redeemer, forcing them to retreat. The main NOD base soon followed suit and fall to the combined might of the two MARVs. With their Command Headquarter destroyed, NOD forces in China soon fall to disarray. This mission is a total victory.
- Doomsday Countdown. Location: Incheon, South Korea. The situation in the Far East is stabled and only minor NOD resistances remained but a large number of NOD had escaped their demise. Peace finally there, but it is short lived, as the Earth under attack by an unknown Aliens. There crafts landed across the globe and their forces strike in every Blue and Yellow Zones. A Drone Platform had landed in Incheon and Commander Sato sent to deal with it. A strike team arrived from sea and encountered heavy Alien patrols. 2024.05.15 10:05 mariamatuni Question about transit through London
Hello fellow explorers, I am a little confused about the rules of transit through London and would like to get your opinions. I hold a Russian passport and a EU residence which supposedly grants me permission to transit if I don't leave the transit area. BUT. The flights I am eyeing are carried by different airlines. So if I only take my carry-on and do the check in for the second flight in advance online - will I be able to transit without leaving the transit area and without the need to apply for a visa? Or might I not get seated for my first flight at my departure point?
Please help me get this right
