Hello! Anyone know what's happening here with my blackberries? Some are totally normal, others have this (pictured) - they are hard drupelets. It's earlier than usual for them to be ripening. I'm in a Midwest climate.

2024.06.09 21:54 Beannbun What's your favorite blackberry?

What's your favorite blackberry?
I have two very unruly Navajo Thornless blackberries that I planted in the ground a couple years ago when I was young and foolish and unaware of what absolute tyrants they could be.
I get excellent yields (a little over 8lbs in the last 4 days) but they're a bit sour and not exactly the best for fresh snacking. I've been happy to make jams and jellies with them but will be digging them up this fall to start a patch somewhere that's not so in my way. I need to decide if I want to continue to grow this variety or if I should get something new...
So, what's your favorite blackberry to grow thats sweet and good for snacking? I have a toddler so preferably something thornless.
Also included my blackberry inspector, Pete, who takes his job very seriously.

Comments: Kylea Gomez is lazy. In the year I have watched her lies unfold, there is always an excuse why she cannot complete activities of daily living. She lives in a small apartment, is not a caregiver, does not attend school, volunteer in her community, etc. Refusing to crate BB to accomplish tasks is her choice and a detriment to the dog. Using alleged vet bills as the reason is a poor excuse. A few thousand dollars is a drop in the bucket for this important public figure, influencer, and celebrity. 🌟 📷 😉
In regards to her kindness speech:
Kylea Danielle (Welton) Gomez worships at the idol of self. If you need visual evidence, please see the 1st image of the balloon arch shrine she built herself for Easter. ✝️ She claims she is unable to attend church for a variety of reasons. She lives in a state of self-pity and is easily offended. Due to her self-centeredness and selfishness, she is unable to enjoy special experiences with her family and during travel. Her ego is challenged and she cannot control everyone and everything. She lives in fear of accountability, the truth, food, and the scale. I view her content as self-righteous service vs true service. She wants your blind adoration and affirmation for all of her choices. Anything else will not be tolerated.
One day, she will be a distant memory. Until then, I will continue my mission for Kylea Gomez to be demonetized and deplatformed. Meta, take action.

2024.06.09 20:30 DescriptionHere I discovered a giant berry and grape patch on my property, and I'm kinda overwhelmed

Hi everyone! My partner and I recently bought a house with a few acres of land around it in the Hudson Valley. The house was derelict for several years before we moved in, and we're just getting our arms wrapped around everything there is to do with the land. We found a giant raspberry/blackberry patch, and we think there are even some grapes there, too. We're very excited! But we're also overwhelmed, since, historically, we haven't been big gardeners...
A few questions:
We're really excited and eager, but we're both new to this, so any help you have to offer would be really great! Thank you!

2024.06.09 20:20 continuousobjector Blueberry Sauce for meat dishes

There's cranberry sauce for turkey, orange sauce for duck, apple sauce for pork. Does anyone have a good recipe (or an idea for one) for a blueberry (or maybe blackberry) sauce for beef?
Done right, I think it would work really well. But some problems I anticipate are: how to layer the flavors of spices, what spices to use, and how to balance the sweet and sour flavors (especially since these berries vary so much in these flavors. And of course, how to not make a blueberry compote.

Set goal for 5 lbs, went over 6, 10+ it is then!
It's been a few years since I've picked wild blackberries, there were a few bushes around my house but just not berries on them to pick... I saw the white flowers blooming everywhere this past April and started picking last week :D there's still plenty of red out there but I'll leave those for the birds they gotta eat too!

Hey folks, just a quick poll as I plan BBP expansion. Let me know how you prefer to see how-to content and I will take it into account. It seems YouTube videos are quite popular (ProjectBerry has done excellent work in this area), but I thought I'd put it to the community to answer.
We're going to be launching a major expansion soon and I'll do my best to incorporate the results of this poll in how I distribute content moving forward.

2024.06.09 18:28 c2chaos Neighbors weeds growing thru fence into my yard

Edit: Thanks for the replies. I cut back the intrusive plants constantly. My neighbor is not going to do better. It’s all on me. I don’t use pesticides. I am looking for creative ideas to slow down the growth- barriers, digging along the fence line, adding landscaping material against the fence, or any other creative ideas to lessen my workload Title says it all. My neighbor keeps a tidy manicured front yard. But their backyard is blackberry vines, and other big leaf vines. These spiky vines grow through the metal fence and wrap around my plants. They’re starting to choke out my tree. Already took out the Japanese maple (at least that what I think killed it)
I was thinking of lining my wire fence with landscaping material (that black roll stuff). Would that work? Any better suggestions? Moving isn’t an option 😜

2024.06.09 18:13 SAN_NR New to BB Classic — how to download apps?

Hello, I’m completely new at this and don’t know too much about what can exactly be done/downloaded, and especially how to do so. The only blackberry I’ve ever owned is the Blackberry torch 9810 11 years ago at the age of 14 lol. Please let me know if this is the wrong place to ask.
I recently purchased the blackberry classic q20 for the nostalgia of the keyboard. I’m not planning to use the phone as a secondary but I do want to use it for a few things while on WiFi:
• Spotify • TikTok • Discord • Signal
Are there any helpful guides online? I’ve been having trouble looking or understanding what to do. Am I supposed to download the apps within the phone itself or on a pc?

Hi, i have been growing only auto flowers. For five years outdoors i had -Wedding Cake, Hulkberry , Og Kush , Northern Lights, White Whidow, Skywalker Haze, Gorilla Cookies, Strawberry Banana , Mango Smile , Cinderella Jack, Blackberry Kush. Now its the Blue Dream turn. Does anyone know if real auto blue dream seeds exist or at least close to the original? I think every grower should grow this masterpiece at least once in his life!

2024.06.09 15:40 ultravioletneon Black-and-blueberry Hab/Ghost sauce (first ferment!)

Black-and-blueberry Hab/Ghost sauce (first ferment!)
Thrilled by my first fermented sauce — it kicks you in the teeth with a brief but powerful heat, then subsides to a beautiful tangy flavor that is blueberry lemonade-adjacent. I cannot express how much fun this was to make (and how impatient I got during the ferment).
In the jars - 2 oz habanero peppers - 3 oz ghost peppers - 9 oz blackberries - 16 oz blueberries - 2 cloves garlic
The peppers were washed and cut into medium-sized slices and I left the seeds and ribs out this time. I smashed the berries with a muddler, and flattened the garlic.
All of this went in with a 2% brine solution and I used the weighted ziploc method with four 16 oz mason jars.
This fermented for one week. By the end of the week I was in serious anticipation, but I’d love to work up to a longer fermentation for a future sauce. I cleared the pH test, and decided it was ready to go.
I had conflicting advice re: cooking the sauce, but decided to do it. 185F for about 15 minutes on the candy thermometer (with proper covering and ventilation!).
Once the mixture became touchable, next up was blending the mash with an immersion blender, then straining it through mesh. When I had a liquid of approximately the right texture, I finished the sauce with lime juice (3 fresh limes) and agave syrup (approximately 1 cup, which felt like a lot but was just right for the flavor balance vs. heat).
After that, into the bottles it went!
First samples have been on grilled chicken, crackers with cream cheese, and mango slices. I’m so pleased.

2024.06.09 14:49 Altruistic-Cookie694 Why can’t I grow dill!?

Humble brag humble brag but I can keep an orchid alive for well over a decade. My blueberries and blackberries are thriving. I had very few unsuccessful seedlings and am setting up quite a nice little garden.
But I cannot grow dill. I’ve killed every plant I have. Just went brown and looks pathetic.
How do you keep dill alive? I currently have it in afternoon sun for a few hours a day. Keep the soil reasonably moist.

2024.06.09 11:12 Humboldt99 Giakanja AB - The Barn

Giakanja AB - The Barn
Name of the roastery: The Barn
Name of the coffee: Giakanja AB
Growing altitude: 1750m
Origin: Nyeri, Kenya
Preparation: Washed
Flavour notes according to the roaster: Blackberry, vanilla, bold
Roasted: 02.05.24
Ground with: Kingrinder K6
Brewed with: Ascaso Steel Uno PID, LaMarzocco X-Filter (17g)
In: 18
Out: 45
Sec: 35
Temp: 93
Flavour and experience: A souvenir from our last trip to Berlin. Due to the price of €15.50, I hesitated a little at first, but then decided to buy it because of the great flavour. And what can I say - absolutely right! The beans are quite finicky when brewing and need to be finely ground. In return, I can taste blackberry with an intensity I've never had before. It's really cool. Especially because I often find the berry flavours claimed by many roasters to be far-fetched. The other cupping notes are also correct. For me, the vanilla is more of a great sweetness that harmonises with the effervescence. Overall, the espresso has a rather "fat" mouthfeel for a Kenyan.
Buy it again: Definitely! Totally my flavour and one or even the best bean so far.

2024.06.09 04:31 Frestldan04 Vanilla with triple berry swirl

Vanilla with triple berry swirl
Made a standard vanilla base using the salt and straw base recipe. But added triple berry jam(home made Strawberry, Blackberry and blueberry) that was a bit syrupy.
Recipe was: 1 1/3 cup of whole milk(I used Costco A2 milk we buy for my toddler) 1 1/3 cup heavy cream 2 tablespoons Agave syrup(my preferred sub for light corn syrup 2 tablespoons Milk powder 1/2 cup raw cane sugar 1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum 2 1/2 ish tablespoons of pure Vanilla Extract( I typically use vanilla bean paste but was going for a standard vanilla base on this and wanted to try something different)
For the jam: I used 1 pints of berries from the garden and puréed them 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice 1 tablespoon pectin(was not enough) 1 cup raw cane sugar
It all turned out exactly how I wanted. The jam was very runny and more like a syrup so it worked great for this but needed more pectin for real jam.

2024.06.09 02:34 KeezWolfblood General berry question: remove flowers/fruit?

Hello, I am quite new to gardening. I keep seeing advice on say blueberries and strawberries to remove the flowers on new plants to encourage growth.
My question: is this a general rule for all fruiting shrubs (and maybe trees too)? Is there ever a reason NOT to remove flowers on a young establishing plant?
Is there ever a time where removing flowers vs fruit preferable? Or is it just flowers if you can and fruit if you're late?
For some genuis reason I started with some rather obscure plants (natives: salal, evergreen huckleberry, and serviceberry) and it's difficult to find detailed care instructions.
Oh, and what about brambles? Will it benefit them to remove flowers too? (Raspberry, blackberry, Thimbleberry) my thought was the canes only typically live two years anyways so it doesn't matter? Or does it?
Thanks in advance for any gardening wisdom you might share. :)

2024.06.09 02:08 Sea_Ad2661 Mk4+MMU3, not cheap but worth it.

Just received my kits, not cheap at all. It cost me around 1450$, but the experience and challenge are nice. They make you attached to you're machine when with the assembly process. Is it for everyone? Nowadays, I don't think so with the out-of-the-box readiness. So many manufacturers provide a print 15 minutes after unboxing. IMO, I think they need to revise their pricing strategy; others will catch up with better solutions and faster printing, and we will see the next Blackberry/Nokia situation.
