2024.05.29 05:26 GroundedLearning Trying to transition into a Project Coordinator or Business Analyst role

Hello, I have spent a little over 8 years wasting my life in IT roles that I have finally decided it is time for a change. I can't spend another day looking at command prompts lol. I love project management, Product management and business analyst type roles. I am specifically looking at project coordinator roles and am thinking of getting a CAPM cert to help me stand out more, but everyone on the internet says PMP or nothing so we shall see if it actually helps. The problem is I am getting zero interest for any of these different roles and I suspect it is either experience or my resume. Attached is my resume which I use for these roles. I tend to change my current position responbilities up the most to try and relate to the which ever job I am working. Unfortunely I lost my career job last year and this new job the hiring manager lied beyond anything I have ever experienced and I don't even do 10% of what they said I would be doing so it isn't helping me gain any experience towards what I actually want to do. The formatting issue with the dates is because I took the company name and locations out, it doesn't look that bad normally.

Support Engineer and Product Managment Experience want to become a Project Coordinator on path to Project Management
Hello, after years in IT support and a short stint in product management I have realized that I want nothing more than to go into Porject Management. Every job i've had I intentionally took every oppurtunity to lead projects to improve the state of my team. The problem is all my project experience is really me defining scopes and working with all of the relevent teams, not in a project management framework or methodology, more like I did the best I coud with what I had. Thankfully all of my projects have been a huge success, but I haven't had project in any of my titles so when applying to jobs it seems no one cares. I am thinking of going for the CAPM because I don't believe I have the 60 months of experience for PMP. I have attached my resume if anyone can roast me to death I am all ears. The formatting issues with the dates worked is because I removed the company and locations. I will do anything to make this happen, thank you for your time.

But I promise that if you do the work throughout the course, you’ll have what it takes to pass.
I also promise that your work will be read and graded by real instructors who are expert email marketers in their own right. This is something that almost no other programs offer…which is sad, because it’s by far one of the most important elements in learning to write email campaigns clients are willing to pay for.

~Writer.me~ Profile And Badge

When you pass the certification exam, we’ll set you up with a free profile on writer.me so that companies looking for email marketers will have a way to find and contact you. From that point forward, it will be your source of free email marketing and copywriting leads.
You’ll also get a Certification Badge that you can—and should—put everywhere you can: on your website, resume, even in your email signature, to let people know that you’re a highly trained copywriter capable of writing campaigns that deliver real results for real businesses.
As you can see, you’re getting a LOT from this program. It’s natural that you’re probably wondering…

2024.05.29 05:10 nuy17171717 Please advice! Bank balance for visit visa

My mom (Indonesian) will be applying for a visit visa to visit me in the UK (student). Her regular income comes from my dad (not coming with her to the uk), which is always the same amount of £500 every month, but there is hardly any disposable income because almost all the money from my dad is used for daily necessities. However, she has a quite large opening balance (around £3500) on her account because she used to be a designer but she retired around 4 years ago. The balance was her savings from when she was still selling her work. The closing balance every month generally around the same amount of £3500.
She also has another bank account with roughly the same balance of £3500. It was also her savings from past work, but she doesnt use it for daily expenses. There are only very few outgoing transactions but there are also irregular transfer from my brother (on average £100/month), so the balance is gradually increasing every month.
So we plan to include both bank statements and state her income comes from my dad and my brother, and that her large balance was her savings from when she was working as a designer. We plan to also attach the following: - my dad's payslips + letter confirming the money transfer (+his ID and marriage certificate) - a letter signed by my brother confirming the money transfer (+his ID and proof of family ties) - some of my mom's old invoices when she was still working as a designer
For ties to home country, we will include my parents marriage certificate, pictures of them together overtime, and letters from local communities where my mom is very actively involved (we can provide pictures and instagram/facebook posts for proof).
My concern is about her bank statement, because I've read about people getting rejected for simply having more than enough savings! I'm not sure if her past invoices are enough evidence. Please advice. Thank you!

2024.05.29 04:22 GeoffArthur What’s MORE Important Being STRONG or being LEAN?

Kettlebell MAXIMORUM https://go.chasingstrength.com/kettlebell-maximorum-e/

Uses Double Clean + Press, Double Front Squat, Single Snatch
3x Nutrition plans included
Strength coach Mark Rippetoe says, “Stronger people are harder to kill.”
StrongFirst says, “Be anything you want to be, but be strong first.”
And yet our society is OBSESSED with “weight loss.”
I’ve written recently about the importance of getting rid of stomach fat for health and staving off death.
I’ve even written over the last 6 months or so about getting rid of that stomach fat as fast as possible simply because it is so detrimental to your health, AND…
It inhibits your ability to get stronger.
Yet I’m known as the “double kettlebell strength guy.”
So what’s the deal?
Should YOU pick a side?
Do you HAVE TO pick a side?
Even though our modern world is hell-bent on “this vs. that”... “Us vs. Them”...
I say NO, you don’t HAVE to.
You can subtly (or not) BIAS your training to one side or the other, IF you know how to program correctly.
In fact, back in 2010, I put out the first “strength-based fat loss program” - Kettlebell Burn…
Which got people A LOT stronger, while stripping off body fat. (Many even used it for the RKC kettlebell certification prep and crushed their certs.)
And if you “dial in” your nutrition?
Well, that’s the “magic” right there:
Maximum Strength Training + Supportive Nutrition.
Case in point - got this email from Verrico about his experience using a “pure strength” program - ‘THE GIANT 3.0’ and cleaning up his nutrition:
As you can see, even though he lost 5.5lbs of scale weight and 1.5 inches from his waist… He turned his old 5RM into a brand spanking new 10RM in just 4 weeks.
So, look, you DON’T HAVE TO CHOOSE.
You can be STRONG and LEAN.
And more importantly, you CAN focus on both at the same time, if you know what you’re doing.
You CAN HAVE the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.
You just have to know how to do it.
Hope this helps.
Stay Strong,
Geoff
P.S. One of the reasons Kettlebell Burn 2.0 worked so well for people was not JUST the programming, but it gave them an adjustable and customizable nutrition template that freed them from the “tyranny of dieting.”

2024.05.29 03:17 BikerJedi Rounded out year 20 today. Holy shit.

(Long one. Sorry. TL;DR; I fucking love teaching and hate my salary for it.)
It's wild to me to say that. Over 20 years, starting 21, of teaching finished up today. That's just wild to me. Why?
Well, I'm Generation X. I grew up in an era where people had a multi-decade career or two and then retired. Having a thousand jobs like me was unheard of back then. My full resume is five pages.
I had my heart set on 20+ years in the Army before I got hurt and medically discharged. I loved that shit (Embrace the Suck!) and would have done it forever if they let me. Then I worked a series of part time and full time jobs. Security. Bar tending. Door to door sales. Yard supervisor for a roofing company. I hustled darts. Bouncer and doorman (and regular) at a strip club. Security again. Some day labor, which I didn't last long at. Worked as a cashier at an "Adult" toy and DVD/VHS store. (That was a wild job) At least ten other jobs I can't remember. During this entire time, I never made more than $20,000 a year.
Eventually, I made my way into college through a VA Vocational Rehabilitation program for disabled veterans. Although the VA provided a monthly stipend and my wife was working at Western Forge and I had a (VERY fucking small) VA disability check, I still had to work a few hours a week. So during my four years in college (a bit less actually) I worked a lot of jobs, some for weeks, others for a year or more. Some where half time, some where 3/4 time, but I was always full time in school. Together, we did a bit over $40,000.
Help desk. Lab monitor in college. More help desk. Internship in IT at an airline. More help desk. More IT. More consulting and contracting. Tier I support at an internet provider, who supported PC, Macintosh and LINUX (no one else could do that. Lol. Sorry, I was good and I like to brag a bit.) Eventually I graduated. I asked for a raise and promotion at the internet provider, and they denied it, so I gave my two weeks. I had put in over a year and was GOOD at it. I deserved it, so I would look elsewhere if they couldn't give it to me. I wanted to be a network engineer.
But I also had root access to everything, so I was escorted out 15 minutes later and paid two weeks severance. On to other jobs then.
In this order starting at $55,000: Technician on the NASDAQ stock market network upgrade for MCI/Worldcom (where I got fired after I 400 others got fired after they realized they could save more money paying out lawsuits, but not our shitstain boss who got promoted) to a cutting edge VoIP company that went out of business (just like Silicon Valley from HBO) to Ryder Logistics as a Project Manager making $100,000 a year.
Six figures. One of the last private companies in America to still offer a 20 year pension. Even as a contractor, AMAZING salary and benefits. All of my hard work had paid off. The Cisco certification I worked so hard for had paid off. My networking skills that got me the interview for this job paid off. I had MADE IT. I had so much money I didn't know what to do with it given our modest lifestyle. I was going to be with Ryder Logistics forever.
Then in 2000, the "tech market" took a MASSIVE dump. Hundreds of thousands of highly paid, highly certified and educated folks like myself were laid off. I was DAYS, just fucking days, away from being brought on permanently and taken of contractor status. Yay. I knew of a guy with a PhD who was stocking shelves at 7-11. So I'm out there competing with guys and gals with more education and experience, even though I had a great resume. And I couldn't find a damn thing even approaching half my former salary. Guys like me were a dime a dozen now, the vultures could afford to be picky.
I survived and provided for my wife and son by working a shit ton of various jobs. I would get up at 0200 and deliver newspapers and finish around 0600. Then I could home, shower, change and eat. Head into my first shift at work teaching at a college. Go home, nap, go back for night classes. Deliver pizza after work. Picked up consulting jobs on the weekends. Four jobs to support a wife and keep us from living in the woods - her grandmother took us in, but we were still "homeless" in that we had no place of our besides her basement. Eventually I saved enough to move us to Florida and buy a house, where I started teaching high school.
We lost it all. I managed to sell our house for a modest profit days before the bank took it and we were homeless. I had to sell my beloved (and rare) Harley 1992 Dyna FXDC. Eventually, I missed a mortgage payment, and things snowballed. The only thing we kept in the bankruptcy was our SUV, and only because I could barely make the payments on it.
I had to start over at $28,000 as a teacher. After over 20 years, I'm up over $55,000 now. My VA disability check is a lot bigger now. I'm grateful for where I am. But it is wild to me that I make so little after 20 years. I'm literally making the same (on paper) salary now as I did over 20 years ago, and I'm providing more value to society now than then.
Hell, it's wild to me that I did one thing for over 20 years. I know I've focused on money here, but yeah - twenty fucking years doing one thing.
ALL THAT TO SAY (sorry, I'm "lubricated" tonight) that I have never held a single job for more than two years other than my four years (a bit less actually) in the Army. Ever. And today I finished 20+ years. I'm going to be dean this summer for summer school. I'm interviewing for dean (WISH ME LUCK!) full time next year in a few days. I'm excited. I have a lot of great ideas about how to make our campus even more peaceful. I haven't interviewed for a job in a forever since I've been teaching (other than lateral transfers) so I'm a bit nervous. But I believe by boss is in my corner and I have a good shot. I hope so, because I WANT this.
I don't know what else to say. I love teaching. I love these kids, even the assholes. I want to do this for a while, even as I want to retire and take it easy with the old lady. But they keep sucking me back in. Lol. (Who gets that reference?) But I've said it before, without free, public education, our society will regress badly. One very proven way you make sure that a quality free, public education is provided is to pay teachers a good salary.
20 years. Holy shit. And even if I don't get dean, I'm teaching all 6th grade next year. That makes the year INCREDIBLY easy for me. The subject matter is easy, the kids are young and easy to engage and teach. And even though they are regular ed, I'll be teaching them the Advanced curriculum just like I have done for years with my 8th graders. They can do it, you just have to push them.
And I'll be all chill about it until another dean slot opens. The other guy is close to retirement so I'll have another shot soon.
I love you all. The editor started the process on my book this weekend he says, so hopefully I'll have revisions to make soon. Thanks for being here.

2024.05.29 02:51 Zeddblidd The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story (2009)

2024-208 / Zedd MAP: 86.14 / MLZ MAP: 83.34 / Score Gap: 2.80
Wikipedia / IMDb / Official Trailer / Our Collection
I have a few rules when writing - things learned from my time as a journalist, and later, as the crafter of creative career creations, yes friends - I was a professional resume writer, a wordsmith, netting a couple hundred bucks for a single document. You might think “oh, my computer has a template” or “my Aunt Mary does the family’s resumes” but later you’d wonder why nobody was calling you in for an interview.
Crap in / Crap Out, I’m afraid (Rule 1) - creative writing is a skill, not well suited for hobbyists. I turned my gift for turning a phrase, the gift for gab if you will, into money. Anyone who’s ever wished to transform writing into currency can tell you… it’s nearly impossible. Once achieved, there’s no going back. (Rule 2) Look at me - I’m giving it away now, here on Reddit - but then currency can be more than just money. You can spend and pay a great many things - time, attention, respect, a good time, allegiance. :]
The most important philosophy I learned was to make whatever I was writing seem both interesting and fun - never let the customer see the process, never let them see you sweat. (Rule 3)
This is where The Sherman Brothers excelled - they wrote some of the 20th century’s most memorable songs. Happy songs, sad songs, and above all, silly songs for the movies. Outwardly, what a treasure to have two brothers of such skill - music and lyrics, apparently effortlessly and fit for the King of Disney Studios, Walt himself was an employer but also a huge fan.
In private, they couldn’t stand to be near one another. There’s no hate like family hate (that’s Rule 1 but in a different book entirely, one unfortunately on my shelf too). Once they retired, they didn’t speak for decades. We had no idea.
From IMDb: Their music is unforgettable. Their name is legend. Delve into the lives and cinematic legacy of the prolific songwriting duo whose music has been featured in classic movies such as Mary Poppins (1964) and The Jungle Book (1967).
You might be one of those people just meeting The Sherman Brothers, Robert and Richard, for the first time - although, you’ve certainly heard their music. I could compile a list of films whose catchy tunes can be traced to them but we’d be here all day. They won Oscars for Mary Poppins and were nominated for several others.
Mrs. Lady Zedd grabbed this documentary for me from the Disney Movie Club because we first became aware of the brothers during the early days of the Movie Collection Catalog. During the upgrade I built for 2.0, I started noting the names of bands I like and, not long after, “Them” of the musical variety.
The Sword in the Stone (1963), Mary Poppins (1964), The Jungle Book (1967)… Disney flick after Disney flick, the non-Disney too, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), Snoopy Come Home (1972), Charlotte's Web (1973) - damn, motion picture after motion picture had their musical fingerprints all over it. I call out names I bump into, MLZ learns them from hearing my MCC chatter. The documentary was a thoughtful gift.
Neither of us were prepared for the story The Boys had to tell. Richard and Robert were fire and ice. Creatively, they brought the best out of one another - personally, they wanted nothing to do with each other. Their children lived blocks from each other but were strangers. It was very sad, but it happens.
We came to terms with the reality of things, there were a few pictures during the credits that showed the brothers together - we chose to hope they patched things up. I looked them both up and discovered the older of the two, Robert, had passed a few years after the documentary, then - that last “I didn’t know” - Richard passed just a few days ago. We were having a memorial viewing, but accidentally. It really goes that way sometimes.
On a more positive note, I discovered my favorite Sherman Brothers song turned out to be Walt Disney’s too Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag) from Mary Poppins. Their music, born of friction, often served to soothe - the older I get, the more I realize what a gift that can be.
Movie on.

2024.05.28 23:06 Ill_Focus7980 Equitable Distribution = 50/50?

My ex and I are going to mediation next week. We live in an equitable distribution state. We have no children and no debts besides the home he purchased when he moved out last year to live in. During our 20-year marriage, we both worked full time and he brought in 32% of the income, I brought in 68%. When we met, we were early in our careers and did not bring many, if any, premarital assets with us into the marriage.
He obtained a lawyer because he feels he should be able to easily just walk away with 50% of our assets. Both of us earned six figure incomes, and I recently retired early to pursue helping others and working for very small income (living off of my stocks/dividends). I honestly feel like he is just trying to be mean and force me back into my corporate career as one last spiteful way to get back at me. I gave up many things including a family because he didn't want one. I also further pursued my education, obtaining a master's degree and other certifications while he got an associate's degree and pursued passions like reselling items on ebay.
Besides one joint account that we paid our bills from for the home and vacations, we kept all of our assets separated. For example, our checking accounts were started prior to marriage and we only deposited our own paychecks into them and then part of the paychecks into the joint account. In addition, we paid for own individual vacations, activities, cars and clothing, etc. out of our own accounts or paid off individual credit cards out of our own checking accounts. The only things paid for out of the joint account were household related (mortgage, utilities, food).
A few years ago, I paid off our home because I had a high commission year. There is no way that he had that kind of money then (based on looking at annual earning social security statement). It was a handshake agreement that I owned a certain amount of the home and even when things needed to get fixed I paid that percentage of it (garage doors, appliances, deck, landscaping). This was so that some day when we sold it, we knew I had put that same percentage into the work on the house.
With the upcoming mediation, what is everyone's experience with a mediation going better than 50/50? Have you ever seen it go to the original split of income (in this case 32/68)?

I have finished a L3 extended diploma in cyber security but I am struggling to get IT jobs here in England so I am considering studying in America or Canada and moving there for work.
I have looked at 3 industries:
IT
Engineering
Medicine
I have looked at universities in Vermont, California, Ontario, Texas, I have also looked at doing various certifications such as 104, CCNA, CeH, A+
I don’t know what industry to work in I just want a stable job that can make alot of money, I don’t care how bad the job is, just as long as there is a defined path for career progression, a stable career and the ability to have a pension/retire
I have also looked at law enforcement, EMT work and forestry work for both Canada and America,
What do I do and where do I do it

2024.05.28 20:09 sandman730 Rules & Schedule

Welcome to all GMs and AGMs to this year's edition of the /hockey annual offseason sim!

Spreadsheets

I will be personally editing all the spreadsheets, keeping them updated throughout the sim and they can all be found on the sidebar and the chat channel.
Please message sandman730 if anything is incorrect or if you wish to change your roster sheet.

Tentative Sim Schedule

CBA

For information about the cap and CBA, read this post and feel free to ask sandman730 any questions.

IRL Moves

Since we are in sim mode, IRL moves do not apply to the sim, except for five key exceptions:
  1. Players retiring (if they retire IRL, they're out of the sim and cannot be signed),
  2. Player suspensions (ex: Slava Voynov),
  3. Transactions involving a foreign professional entering the NHL,
  4. An NHL player signing in another league (ex: Liiga),
  5. Players being placed on long-term injured reserve.
Regarding the 3rd point, if the player announces he is officially returning to the NHL or signs IRL with an NHL team, then he is available to sign. Until then, he cannot be signed.
Coach hirings/firings, AHL contracts, relocation, etc. are not part of this sim.

Keep it Realistic

You can't be perfect since plenty of teams could go many ways. If your team is rebuilding, you should continue to rebuild and help the process.
Try not to acquire guys to flip them later. We're not outright banning it since it happens IRL sometimes, but it's uncommon, especially for bigger names. Rebuilding teams rarely take cap dumps to help out other teams in exchange for late-round picks. If it is a fair trade, it can still be accepted. There will need to be incentives for teams to acquire cap dumps. Don't include unnecessary pieces or trade picks too far out (trading picks after 2025 will require a compelling reason). Don't trade the rights to retired players.
We are asking each GM for an initial offseason plan. This plan includes basic things like which direction the team is headed this summer, but with slightly more detail such as whether they will hope to pursue more options via trades or free agency, how they will deal with their cap space (or lack thereof), etc. You will not be able to sign or trade anyone until your plans are submitted and approved. If you wish to amend your plan, submit it via mod mail, including your reasoning for the amendment.
[GM Plan Form]()
Throughout free agency, the mod team will reach out to GMs to see if they are changing their plans due to transactions that have taken place in the sim (i.e. missing out on free agents, changes in the trade market, etc.).
THIS IS NOT FANTASY HOCKEY, DO NOT TREAT THIS AS FANTASY HOCKEY OR NHL 24 BE A GM

Trades

We realize GMs want to be more active than their real-life counterparts but we will be pretty strict on allowing trades in the sim. When you submit a trade or signing, both parties must send the trade to the office of the commissioner (via mod mail). You also must justify why the trade makes sense for your party including how it will affect the cap, lineup, and future roster decisions. Please use the below template. All players, picks, additional terms, rights to players, and salary retention amounts must be specified and identical in both parties' submissions.
Before making a trade, we encourage you to find multiple comparable trades to convince us that the trade is realistic. Please do not compare each trade to the Matt Duchene to Ottawa trade and say "Well, it's more realistic than that one".
We will do our best to announce the trades as they come in. Do not post pending trades in other threads until they are posted. Please allow us at least 24 hours to approve trades and prepare graphics.
Try not to blow your load, especially on the first day. Be patient, especially with trades. Just try. You'll thank us later. Those who follow this advice usually will find incredible bargains and can take advantage of other GM's mistakes.

Trade Submission Template

We would like teams to use the following template when submitting trades to ensure all relevant information is included.
Team A receives:
Team B receives:
Corresponding moves: (players sent down, called up, or put on waivers; answer "none" if not applicable)
Cap/salary implications:
Goal:
Justification:
Comparables:
Other options pursued:
Long-term implications:
I certify that I own the assets I am trading away; my team remains roster & cap compliant; I have complied with any no-trade lists; etc.

Example

NYR receives: Tyler Motte
WPG receives: 2023 4th Round Pick (WPG)
Corresponding moves: None
Cap/salary implications: The Rangers can take the remainder of Motte's $1,225,000 cap hit.
Goal: The Rangers are looking to add depth for a playoff push. The Canucks are looking to acquire future assets for a player on an expiring contract.
Justification: The Rangers are solidly in a playoff position and are looking to buy at the deadline. Motte can fill a 4th line role.
Comparables: SEA traded Mason Appleton to WPG for a 2023 4th before the 2022 TDL. MTL traded Nick Cousins to VGK for a 2021 4th before the 2020 TDL.
Other options pursued: The Rangers also tried to acquire Derick Brassard and Vladislav Namestnikov but were unable to make a deal work.
Long-term implications: The Rangers are willing to give up a mid-round pick to add depth now.
I certify that I own the assets I am trading away; my team remains roster & cap compliant; I have complied with any no-trade lists; etc.

No-Trade/No-Movement Clauses

These will be handled by sandman730, randompunkt, and sarcastic__. If you wish to trade a player with a No-Trade or No-Movement Clause, you must message them, requesting a list of teams a player can or cannot be traded to, or if a player would be willing to waive his No-Movement Clause. Please give them at least 24 hours to fulfill such requests.
Please request No-Trade clauses via mod mail.

Trading UFA Rights

We have tried this in the past and some agents felt obligated to have the UFA sign in the city that acquired the players' rights. We feel it would be best if every team gets a fair chance so this year we will NOT be allowing trading for UFA rights. This will also hopefully lead to fewer trades and more UFA signings.
Additionally, we will not allow you to sign and trade UFAs or pending UFAs.

Conditional Picks

You cannot trade picks with conditions, with some exceptions:
  • Lottery protection
  • Higheloweetc. of multiple picks in a given round
  • Settling scenarios based on previous trade conditions
We realize it happens in real life, but it is hard to track from experience and hopefully, it will cut down on the amount of unnecessary trade conditions.

Unfair Value

To avoid exploitation and chaos in the trade market, we sometimes need to step in to preserve the sim's integrity. This may be subjective so the trade committee will discuss and vote on most trades. Your trade will go through more smoothly if you provide ample justification and can offer comparable trades. Some common issues include:
  • Undervaluing cap space or salary - Since no real money is involved in this simulation and no accountability to owners or future cap issues, people can undervalue these assets. Please provide examples of comparable trades.
  • Undervaluing future draft picks - Similarly, since there is no accountability within the sim for these assets, unnecessarily adding late draft picks or using too high draft picks can be problematic. Again, provide examples of comparable trades.
  • Differing opinions on the value of players or prospects - These usually will go through but may require further explanation.

Vetoes

sandman730, randompunkt, and sarcastic__ will be the “veto panel” and we will take it very seriously. If the vote is unanimous 3-0 either way, then we will accept/reject the trade or signing. If it is 2-1 either way, then we will ask others for their opinions and votes. We will then decide with the majority. There are several reasons why a trade or signing may be vetoed by the trade committee:
  • Violates the CBA (ex: puts a team over the contract limit)
  • Involves NTCs (i.e., the player would block the trade)
  • Puts a team over the cap or roster limit (or under the floor), without them having a clear plan for how to get back under (or over)
  • Violates other house rules (ex: trading UFAs)
  • Unrealistic (see above)
  • Unfair value (see above)
  • Goes against their plan (or goes too far all-in on either the present or future)
meatb4ll will communicate veto decisions and discussions.

Entry Draft

Rounds 1-3 of the draft will take place in the chat channel on Fri. June 21st at 8pm ET. We kindly ask that everyone attends this in the chat since it will go a lot smoother not having to wait for GMs and it is one of the most exciting parts of the sim in terms of trades and activity. This is the one day we hope to have all GMs and AGMs alike participate since we require your cooperation. Draft day trades involving players/prospects must be submitted 24 hours before the start of the draft (Thu. June 20th at 8pm ET). Trades made during the draft (involving draft picks) must be submitted via DM to the commissioners.
On Sat. June 22nd at 2pm ET, we will host Rounds 4-7 for those who would like to participate. It is not mandatory, you will just be auto-picked if you don’t show up. There will not be any trading allowed for this portion of the draft.
If a GM cannot make it either night, you are welcome to appoint an AGM to draft for the team, submit a custom auto-draft list, or respect our auto-draft list (Bob McKenzie, then Future Considerations). Please confirm this via mod mail or (if mid-draft) via DM to the commissioners.
Please make your selections as promptly as possible to ensure the draft runs smoothly for everyone. Do not delay your selection to make a meme/image (you are welcome to post them afterward). We will allow 2 min per selection for Rounds 1-3 and 1 min for Rounds 4-7. Each team will be allowed a 2-minute timeout (one per team). We also will take a brief intermission (~10 min) between rounds.
If you wish to draft players not listed on the Elite Prospects Draft Board, you must petition the commissioners via mod mail before the start of the draft.

Qualifying Offers

GMs will need to submit a list of who they are sending Qualifying Offers to, among RFAs, and who they are letting test free agency (becoming UFAs). We will have a thread for this and they will be due by Sun. June 23rd at 5pm ET (don’t pull a Dale Tallon). If you have further questions about this process, read about it in the CBA post and message a commissioner or leave a comment.

Free Agency

We will have 3 RFA agents and 4 UFA agents who have chosen the clients they will represent. Not every RFA/UFA will need an agent and you can find the lists on the spreadsheet, but generally, if the player played 20+ NHL games last season, he will require an agent. For the rest of the RFAs (those marked "Commissioners"), if they were qualified both in the sim and IRL, we will wait until they get an IRL contract and match it in the sim; if they were only qualified in the sim, they will sign for their qualifying offers. For the rest of the UFAs, message the commissioners (via mod mail) with a contract offer. Please justify why the signing makes sense for your party including, for GMs, how it will affect the cap, lineup, and future roster decisions. Please use the below template.
When both a GM and agent have come to a finalized deal, both sides need to submit the contract offer to the mods (via mod mail).
This contract offer must include the cap hit, term, no-trade clauses, and performance bonuses. Please keep it realistic as it could cause a domino effect when using comparables.
There will be the possibility for offer sheets, however, right now we are not sure of the best way to determine who the player would pick. Ideas are encouraged. That being said, it’s more likely a player would choose a contender, hometown, long contract, good place in the lineup, or high salary rather than just picking at random. We also want to mention how rare offer sheets are in real life.
Agents have been sworn under the Oath of Bettman that they will be honest, realistic, and fun.
NHL CBA contract rules apply (more information here). Signing a player in free agency and then trading the player is prohibited.

Signing Submission Template

We would like teams to use the following template when submitting signing to ensure all relevant information is included.
Team:
Player:
Year(s):
AAV:
Other clauses: (NTC/NMC, performance bonuses, etc.; answer "none" if not applicable)
Corresponding moves: (players sent down, called up, or put on waivers; answer "none" if not applicable)
Cap/salary implications:
Goal:
Justification:
Comparables:
Other options pursued:
Long-term implications:
I certify that my team remains roster & cap compliant.

Example

Team: Columbus Blue Jackets
Player: Jack Roslovic
Year(s): 2
AAV: $4,000,000
Other clauses: None
Corresponding moves: None
Cap/salary implications: The Blue Jackets still have ~$22.8M in cap space for 2022-23, which should be sufficient for our needs.
Goal: The Blue Jackets are looking to keep a local player who has played well for the team.
Justification: While Roslovic had an excellent 2020-21 season, he regressed in 2021-22. A short-term deal allows him to demonstrate that he can continue to be a valuable player without hamstringing us with a burdensome contract should he underperform.
Comparables: Ryan Spooner signed with NYR for 2yr x $4M in the 2018 offseason. Chris Tierney signed with OTT for 2yr x $3.5M in the 2020 offseason. Ryan Strome signed with NYR for 2yr x $4.5M in the 2020 offseason.
Other options pursued: None, Roslovic was an RFA that we wished to keep.
Long-term implications: While this contract will walk Roslovic to UFA status, we hope that he continues to perform well and that we can sign a more long-term extension with him once Voracek's contract is off our books.
I certify that my team remains roster & cap compliant.

Extensions

Players with one year remaining on a multi-year contract are also eligible for extensions. We will allow each team to extend one such player, provided the AAV is over $6M. Message the Commissioners (via mod mail) with a competitive offer, and an explanation for why you want to extend the player.

GM vs Assistant GM

The GM is the one who makes the final decisions and who other GMs should message. You are encouraged to speak to anyone including Assistants, but for trades and updates on where they stand, please contact the GMs. The assistants are here to serve as a second opinion, fill in on things the GM might have made unclear, and ultimately serve as backups in case the GM needs to be replaced, for example on draft day.

Respect

PLAY NICE. If people act like dicks in trade/FA negotiations, particularly in agreeing to something and then going back on their word, PM the admins and we'll take care of it. Repeat offenders will get removed from the sim. Racism, homophobia, and other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated. No politics.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or DM any commissioner. If we need to clarify some things, we will do so.

Hey everyone, I’m putting down my new and refreshed resume. I graduated exactly 1 year ago and have not had a single interview unfortunately. I get the market we are in and being someone who changed majors frequently and going into a comp sci master without a bachelor in it, getting an internship was much harder. I simply had to put more time into learning as I had less to build from in my bachelor.
On top of my experience gap, I also understand my poor performing resume and I am now taking advice and have implemented the following changes.
I made my resume result driven, I included my experience from a side gig working with founders and artists in the web3 space, and I’ve included a summary for recruiters to get the big picture quickly.
I’d appreciate your feedback so that I can get my foot-in-the-door and start my work life as a software/cloud engineer.
I currently got 1 phone call with my new resume, but no response yet on that opportunity. At this point, I’m considering contract companies like Revature to get the needed experience at the cost of pay and freedom of where I live for 2 years.
Would like to know what would be best not only adding to my resume, but also what I could be doing in the job hunt and what skills to improve in the meantime.
Thank you!

2024.05.28 17:01 TheWebIsNotUrFriend It's settled and it's so freeing

I have come to offer a different perspective of suicide. After decades of this emotional roller-coaster called "life" I have made the decision to end my life. However, it won't be today nor will it be tomorrow. I plan to do it at 60. I'm 28, 3 living children and 2 angels. My having children is the only reason I plan to go another 32 years vs ending it now. I will spend the time I have left raising them and teaching them everything I can teach them. Since giving my life a deadline, things simply don't affect me as much. It's rather freeing. Another ignored or rejected job application? Doesn't matter, I won't be retiring anyways. Credit score suffering? Who cares? Your degree nor certifications has helped up to this point anyway. Student loans due? I got 32 years left. I'm not spending it paying something that I was suckered into getting that accrues interest like a loan shark. Lose weight, don't lose weight. Go back to school or don't. It doesn't matter. It's all gonna end. Another left field blow that the world just chalks up as "part of life"? Doesn't matter. You only have a few more of those. My only wish is that I could be honest w/ my loved ones, but they simply would not understand. None of the work I have put into my life has lead to a modicum of success. Neither financially, spritually, emotionally. I'm always "almost there" then have a major setback. Setting a seadline makes holding on more bearable.

2024.05.28 16:59 Mad_Season_1994 Liking my job because of the work-life balance it offers, but also feeling I should advance my career at some point. Advice?

I currently work help desk for a pretty big firm that’s global. Each office has their own IT group, and we also send them any tickets we ourselves can’t handle, or that actually need to be dealt with by them (i.e. shipping a new laptop to a user, fixing someone’s office monitors, etc). But we ourselves at help desk all work out of the same office, and our schedule is hybrid (at least two days a week in the office, the rest at home).
But, given that we’re operating 24/7/365, this also means we work weekends and holidays (along with our NOC). But typically we rotate people so everyone does it once instead of every weekend. I’m also hourly instead of salary, which of course means plenty of room for overtime. And lastly, I got a 10% raise this year.
So, all in all, even though I of course have to deal with annoying users every day, the schedule I’m currently keeping is something I quite like. But, some part of me keeps saying that I shouldn’t just settle for working this job (even though some of the people more senior than me have been there for over 10 years). That, even though I of course should keep building my skill set and maybe get some certifications under my belt, I should also be wanting to move up the ladder as it were.
I just wanted to get some input on this. If it matters, I currently still live at home with my parents and don’t have any bills besides student loan payments and paying my mom each month for my phone line. I also don’t have a car as I sold mine to my brother when I started WFH and so use my dad’s car to get to work while he takes my mom’s (she’s retired).

Merci d'avance!

2024.05.28 16:23 ContributionShoddy Turning down a 6 figure job for my own happiness, am I crazy?

I could make this post into 10 pages, so forgive my if this is just a little all over the place. Give some background first:
27, F, USA: BS in PSYC, Paralegal Certificate, MBA (currently pursuing).
Work History: Retail, Tourist industry, Legal Assistant (end of BS program, stayed for 4 years, pursued paralegal certificate). Left position due to burn out (toxic work environment), couldn’t find another job (live in rural area, little prospects), landed a job in higher education (not in my field, or anything I wish to do) just needed the health insurance, stayed for 1 year and left position. Never made more than 30K at either positions.
Personal aspirations/career goals: Being a Professor (adjunct mainly), being my own boss in some capacity, opening my own business (dream business: bar, tap room, brewery - have experience in all areas and consultants who would be willing to take it on with me).
Current personal situation: Live in low cost of living area, recently married, supportive spouse with a decent income, stable enough to maintain our home we bought 2 years ago. This area has very low job prospects and we do hope to move eventually but he needs to finish out work contracts and also very close to getting his student loan forgiveness through that job.
Well with that being said, I currently am about to be unemployed (possibly). I am full-time in my MBA program and about to be finishing out my last year. I recently got a job offer that pays a 6 figure salary but would require intense work hours 60+ a week. Tbh, I cannot see myself going back to an in-office job again nor an 8-5. It is for whatever reason something I just cannot handle. I like working, if its on my feet and not stuck in an office. I couldn’t imagine doing 60+ hours, 40 is too much for me. When I worked in the tourist industry, I LOVED MY LIFE and was working 60+ hour weeks during peak time, and loved it. I miss being on my feet. Well, I am considering turning down the 6 figure job and have interviews for bartending positions within the tourist industry. People think I am crazy for that, and believe me I think so too. But I have been so incredibly unhappy all my 20s. The 30k income was fine, it was not the money that was the issue. It was being inside an office, under terrible light, having that consistent 8-5, stupid small talk and always putting on a face and my personal life just fell because of it. I became more lazy.
Sidenote: I have a good savings, good retirement I have been building since forever, and I invest wisely and heavily in the stock market and see great returns and reinvest that into retirement. I do VERY well with my finances and am very picky on what I spend. I can live off nothing just fine and almost prefer it.
Idk, do you think I am crazy?

2024.05.28 15:03 liquidtabs Connect-IPPSSession in unattended mode? Can't use Exchange.ManageAsApp for security reasons

Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to connect to the Security & Compliance Center via PowerShell in unattended mode? I'm able to connect manually using a secure account managed by IAM and do what I need in terms of DLP Reports. Unfortunately since Microsoft retired the reports section in Purview for DLP, I've needed to do access this via the Export-ActivityExplorerData PowerShell command.
I've tried creating an Azure runbook and using the following command:
Connect-IPPSSession -CertificateThumbPrint -AppID -Organization
Once doing this I got a Failed - UnAuthorized (UnAuthorized) message. I then tried it with the Exchange.ManageAsApp API permission added via an App Registration and it works. Unfortunately this was only to prove that this level of access is required as my org will not allow this privilege to be given out unless I was explicitly an exchange admin. They've also not given me any alternative to try.
Any other suggestions would be helpful for this task. Thank you!

2024.05.28 14:59 Motor_Drink_845 Making a change

So I’ve worked service industry the past 12 years working a 1099 IC Job without health benefits, dental, no retirement etc.
I am burning out of that industry lately, as it’s starting to feel very stagnant to me on top off not having medical and dental benefits. But I’ve got a couple questions
I am a hobbyist mechanic and build hot rods in my free time, I am wanting to apply for the automotive technician job with USPS. ALTHOUGH…..
I am not ASE certified or have any experience in the automotive field aside from putting together 5+ project cars that are all reliable enough to drive across state lines…..
Would anyone in this position be able to point me into the right direction of any certification or training I need prior to applying so I can secure the job?
I am wanting to get off of my current path and have a job in the automotive industry that has so benefits and retirement behind it!
Thanks for the help!
