Hello all, as the title suggests - BRP card expires end of 2024 and we've still not heard an update on this. In the Gov website there's a paragraph that says,
"If you have already been contacted to create an account, either by email or in a decision letter, you can now follow the instructions we sent you to create a UKVI account"
Does this mean they're selecting people slowly? Its really affecting future job prospects as employers think the visa length isn't enough for stay in the UK, despite the status being an ILR

I got into Physical Sciences (Biological and Medical Physics) at Waterloo and Mac Health Sci. If I pursued Waterloo, I’d want to do a phD and become a Medical Physicist. If I pursued McMaster, I’d want to go to med school and figure out what I wanna be from there.
My true passion is physics and it’s my strongest subject. I hate biology but I’m decent at it. I enjoy group work with coworkers but I’m not looking for too much patient interaction, because although I enjoy it, it drains my energy a lot faster lol. Either way, I wanna do something to help others.
I’d choose UW Physics, but I’m scared of later regretting throwing away my Mac offer; I heard from a uni friend that most Physical Sciences students eventually lose their passion for physics by 3rd or 4th year. So maybe I should just keep my interests and career separate..? Also, if I do regret physics, it’d be nearly impossible to ever get into McMaster HS again. I’d feel kinda bad for throwing away Mac HS since it’s such a great opportunity for med school.
Does anyone have any insight to offer?

I recently had a conversation with my partner of 8 years, expressing my desire to stop working and asking him to take on his responsibilities. Let me provide some context: I'm a 28-year-old massage therapist, and he's a 35-year-old line cook. When I got pregnant in 2017, we were still in the early stages of our relationship and not living together. At that time, I continued working to cover my expenses and rent since I was living alone.
However, when I reached my sixth month of pregnancy, I made the decision to move in with him because I couldn't continue doing massages and was worried about paying the rent on my own. I thought it would be easier if I had someone to support me financially, especially since he was working in a call center at the time. Unfortunately, shortly after we started living together, he had a conflict at work and resigned. He didn't actively search for another job, and this left us in a tight financial situation. Thankfully, we were able to live with his family, so we didn't have to worry about rent. However, we relied on his mother for our daily food needs, with a budget of only 50 pesos ($0.86) aa day.
I felt embarrassed to ask for more, to the point that I ran out of money to buy cleaning supplies for my post-C-section stitches. I resorted to using panty liners to cover the wound. I didn't want to burden my parents with my situation because they were against me being with my partner in the first place. Despite the challenges, I went back to work six months after giving birth, even though it was difficult for me. My partner stayed at home to take care of our child and handle household chores, but I also helped out whenever I could.
I tried encouraging him to find work, but he struggled due to medical exam failures related to a lung scar. Since then, I have been shouldering all the expenses, from our child's needs to food, celebrations, and everything else. My brother managed to get him a construction job, which lasted for a few months, but he ended up unemployed again when the project finished. In December 2023, he got a job at a restaurant, and he asked me to quit my job so that I could focus on taking care of our child. I agreed but still did freelance work twice a week to supplement our budget.
However, there were issues with his job, and the one-month salary they were supposed to receive was delayed. I had to use my earnings to support our household expenses, bills, food, and our child's school allowance. I was forced to start working again because we had nothing left. Eventually, he found another job, and we both started working while hiring someone to take care of our child.
Now, here's the problem: I suggested that we split the expenses, but he refused, claiming that he earns minimum wage and that I earn more (Note: This is in the Philippines). In reality, I earn 700 pesos ($13) per day plus tips, and on my rest days, I do freelance work and earn 3,000 pesos ($53) weekly. Our weekly budget, including our child's allowance, is 2,000 pesos ($34), and I divide it in half so that we each contribute 1,000 pesos ($17). Despite earning more, I pay for utilities, caregiver fees, gas, and other expenses, while his contribution remains at 1,000 pesos ($17). However, he wants me to reduce his share even further so that he can buy things for himself, assuming that I earn a lot. I'm hesitant to agree to this because I'm concerned about our child's needs.
I understand that he wants to enjoy the fruits of his labor now that he's finally earning some money, but what about our child? I want him to take responsibility as a father, but I find it difficult to voice my feelings because he becomes angry and dismissive, accusing me of talking too much. I'm exhausted and overwhelmed, but I have no one to confide in because I don't want my family's perception of him to change. I can't even turn to his family because they are still his relatives. I feel isolated and trapped because he is a good father and doesn't cheat on me, but he lacks a provider mindset.
I have already explained to him the challenges I face in my line of work, he agrees with my decision to stop working, but he doesn't make any effort to find a job himself. That's why I no longer want to work, especially since I have been the sole provider throughout our relationship. We've been together for 8 years, but if we count the days he has worked, it's less than a year . I'm exhausted, neglecting myself, and my mental health is suffering. I know what I should do, and the thought of separating has crossed my mind, but I worry about the impact it would have on our child. Additionally, I don't want to burden my elderly parents any further, as they are both senior citizens. I'm caught in a difficult decision-making process, and I feel like I have no support.

My son is young, early 20s. Moved out on his own a little over a year ago. Today I’m checking my email and I get an email from USPS showing my mail coming for today. I see an old school piece of mail coming, hand written letter addressed to my son from a female. I text him and ask him who she was. He responds to me telling me a girl he used to talk to back in 2023. And how did I know her name? I tell him that he has a letter coming today from her. You can tell he was shocked. He calls me right away. Tells me that this was a female he met on some chat app thing, and then tells me they talked for a while. But she got weird, and he stopped talking to her. Told me that she told him things like “if you leave me I’ll find you” According to him he has blocked her on all social media platforms. It looks like she looked up his name online and found his name tied to his old address when he lived at home and wrote him an old school letter. I told him I was going to write “not at this address / return to sender” and drop it back in the mail. He said he kind of wants to read it. He is one of those drama people. I told him “but if she gets it back and it says you don’t live there, maybe she’ll get a clue and move along” he said “I just hope there isn’t a threat in the letter”
Now, I will tell you all, my son is not the most honest person. So I have no idea what he is leaving out of the story to me. He swears he never gave her our address. But I am not happy, my wife is not happy that his BS has carried over to our home.
What advice does anyone have? Send it back? Open it to see what it says? We have cameras all over our house, inside and outside. We have dogs. I just would like some feedback on what other people think.

Sorry for the long post! First time posting ever. Sorry if it's not very concise.
I (26f) come from a very large, complicated family. When I was two, my bio parents divorced, and since then (through multiple marriages and divorces) I have gained a plethora of siblings, all of whom I love dearly. Of the seven siblings I have gained, three of them were also birthed by bio mom (50f, who will be referred to as Gaslighter from now on). These three siblings are "Lucy" (28f), "Birdie" (17f), and "Topher" (14m) (all names changed). For context: Gaslighter had abandoned me twice in my childhood - once when she and my father ("John" 53m) first divorced, and once when she and my step father (53m) separated. While the first time was not memorable due to my age and the shorter time span, the second was when I was 14 and I had no contact with her for THREE YEARS. No holidays, no birthdays, nothing. On top of this, when she was around, she was emotionally and verbally abusive to me. She tried to keep me from my father, talked crap about him constantly (including trying to convince me at age 7 that John wanted me aborted), she would not let me play with my sister or friends, and she consistently fat shamed me my entire life. I was a very athletic kid, so I was not by any stretch "fat", but because I had a large appetite due to exercise and medications I needed, I was dubbed "miss Piggy" and "the vulture", and Gaslighter would screech "caw caw" like a vulture if I grabbed seconds. Due to this, I've been struggling with eating disorders since I was 10. She also forced me to raise Topher from birth, as she had forced Lucy to raise Birdie. Now, there's a bunch of other examples I can include, but this is already a lot. So, to the story... I've known for a few years that I would end up cutting Gaslighter out of my life, between the childhood trauma that continued into adulthood and how she treated everyone I love. That being said, I was planning on playing nice until Birdie and Topher were both adults, because I was afraid that pissing Gaslighter off would have negative repercussions on them. I had told Lucy, Birdie, and Topher about my plan and they were all very understanding and on board. For everything I have been through, they have too. The last decade has just been about survival until they were legally free. But in the last year, I have been diagnosed with PTSD from the abuse endured by Gaslighter, and her behavior has become more erratic and terrifying. Over Christmas, I decided that I couldn't wait another 4 years, so I began distancing myself, hoping to just fade away from her. Interactions with Gaslighter had begun inciting my panic attacks, and for my own health, I needed to get out. THIS is where the problem starts. Obviously, Birdie is almost an adult, and she has her own plans to dip out as soon as she turns eighteen. That being said, Gaslighter is actively tightening her grip, making Birdie's life miserable. When I told my siblings that I was going to just ghost Gaslighter, Birdie freaked out. She asked me to not ghost, but to tell Gaslighter that I no longer wanted a relationship with her. Because I knew I wouldn't be able to face her without a breakdown or caving in (this woman has an amazing ability to make herself the victim), I offered a compromise: I would write a letter and mail it to her, and I would wait to completely cut her off until it was mailed. Birdie was happy with this solution. I took my time writing the letter because the stress of the situation was overwhelming and I was still terrified of Gaslighter. Besides that, the tiny part of me that always needed Gaslighter to be a REAL mother to me wanted to keep giving her chances. So, I spent countless nights crying to my fiance about the situation. I did write the letter, but I never got around to mailing it because life was crazy with final exams and family events and work. I still intended to send it, but just never got to it. This past weekend, my father called me. John was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer when I was 15, and, for the following 4 years, I took on the brunt of caring for him. I took him to almost all of his appointments, made sure he had his medicine, talked with doctors, made sure he ate and the house was clean when he was too sick to do it. He never asked me to do any of it, but this was during the time in my life where Gaslighter was MIA, so I had the freedom to spend my time where I wanted, and I chose to take care of him. I have no regrets whatsoever, and I'm glad for that extra time, because I seldom spent time with him as a child. John was the first person who I felt actually understood me, and we had a lot in common, so those years were some of the best in my life. He really is one of my favorite people. Because of the harsh treatments, however, his health has been a mess since his diagnosis. But we have all just been happy to have him around, especially since the doctors told us there was a 6% chance he would survive past 5 years. It has now been 11. While John is still in remission, he recently received some distressing news. In the phone call last weekend, he told me that he will be paralyzed from the waist down within the year, but more than likely, within a few months. I was devasted. I had a breakdown that devolved into my hatred of Gaslighter and her treatment of myself and my father, and something switched inside me. I truly no longer felt any love or care for that woman. I decided that night that I was done. I blocked her on everything and decided I would never see or speak to her again. Birdie obviously isn't happy about it. I know I didn't keep to my promise about the letter. But I just can't justify ever interacting with her again, and I know that letter will do nothing but add fuel to Gaslighter's "woe is me" narrative. So, I guess I am asking if I am the a-hole for not keeping my promise and just ghosting, despite possible repercussions or the feelings of my siblings?

I was in a car accident when I was a minor. I just turned 18 and I am receiving letters attempting to collect payment for damages due to not having liability insurance. I also have a "block" on my license, the OMV stated I still have my driving privileges and I have to negotiate with the insurance so they can relieve me. The insurance wants to negotiate payment (over $15K) which is impossible for me, I am finishing my last week of classes about to graduate high school. My father is not helping me at all, he says I'm 18 now and it's my responsibility. He also is receiving letters and has a block on his license but he isn't doing anything about it because he says he's not responsible. The car was in my father's name and he provided the insurance at the time of the accident. He told me I was properly insured and was allowed to drive. What are my options? I am trying to start my adult life right. I am due to start college this summer but now I'm worried I won't have a means to get there and have this debt and legal mess looming over me due to my parent's irresponsible actions.

Hello, I (f20) had cancer when I was very young and was advised chemotherapy used would make it very unlikely for me to conceive. This has led me down the route of egg freezing what I do have, even if the chance of them being viable isn’t likely (previous oncologists word). I recently had a pelvis ultrasound and got the results, but the doctor is impossible to get hold of and I’m emigrating soon so don’t want to find a new doctor just to understand my results and then have to find another in aus. I know no one can give medical advice but I’d love anecdotal advice on if anyone has had similar results to me and what they meant to them.

This is what my letter said:
The uterus is small and unremarkable with overall size of approx. 71 x 24 x42 mm. The endometrium is normal at 7 mm (LMP about 10 days ago, on microgynon). No focal uterine masses are seen. There are very prominent myometrial and parametrial vessels, especially on the right. The ovaries are normal; left measures approx. 27 x 17 x 21 mm (5 cc) and contains approx. 9 antral follicles. The right measures approx. 28 x 16 x 22 mm (5.1 cc) with 10 AF. No abnormal cysts or masses are seen on either ovary. No endometrioma is present and there is no tethering of the tissues or abnormal pelvic masses.

Is this hopeful? Are these results positive? Should I pursue egg freezing? Any other cancer survivors with similar issues been in my situation, and if so, how did it go for you?

So my son’s mother has full legal custody. He is 12 and I have been paying court ordered child support off and on since he was born. A few years ago they moved to another state so that state was collecting my payments from my employer. However, when they moved out of that state and back home the order was canceled and no other order was put into place. Now fast forward two years. I get a letter in the mail from Arkansas Child Support Enforcement that a case for support was opened. I will be receiving more information in the coming weeks or months( this was almost two months ago and still nothing). When I messaged her and asked what the situation was she told me that our son was staying at her mother’s and is in school so she can find housing assistance in Oregon. So my question is, can Arkansas enforce this even though the custodian parent is living and working in a completely different state than the child? How does that work? I have not been great on keeping up with my parenting time since I work 60 hours a week just to barely survive, but isn’t leaving our child in another state without telling me a violation of our court order? And since the previous order for support was cancelled, will I now be considered in arrears for all of that?

I was in a grad program for 10 years where I was paid for teaching a class for a stipend, but they did not withhold FICA taxes. Grad school was a horrific experience in which I was abused and manipulated by a faculty member for those 10 years, part of which involved threats and punishments to keep me from getting any work outside of teaching and doing unpaid research for him. On several occasions, I was able to take on an additional class and they withheld FICA from that salary so as a result, I have 8 work credits.
I have had disabilities and a number of physical and mental health issues my whole life due to numerous intense medical procedures in childhood, but I muscled through to keep my education going. Grad school and what I experienced destroyed my physical and mental health, making my previous problems much, much worse. Now, 4 years after I got out, I am still incapable of working. Half the time, I am unable to leave my home. Sometimes my physical problems are so bad I can't get out of bed. I have extensive medical documentation from numerous doctors confirming that I am unable to work. I am just missing the work credits. I can't receive SSI because I have more than $2k in my bank account that I saved up from my stipends that I am using to pay for insurance and out-of-pocket costs for medical treatment so I can keep getting treatment.
I have been without any income for 4 years and there is no hope I'll be able to work in the near future. I was counting on SSDI because I'm at the point where I'm skimping on food and necessities so I can have enough money for my health costs because none of the doctors that are critical to my care take Medicaid so I need to keep my insurance. In short, I need some kind of income to keep going. Am I just shit out of luck?

Hi Everyone!
This is my first write-up of any kind of unresolved mystery, on any platform, so I apologize for any formatting errors and my storytelling ability. Today I would like to hear your thoughts on the very mysterious death of Noah Presgrove, a 19 year old from Comanche Oklahoma. I have tried to be as thorough as possible with the details, but there is a great deal of conflicting information in the news reports, so I primarily used facts stated by Noah's family in interviews. With that said, let's begin...
Noah Presgrove was a handsome, athletic 19 year old from Comanche Oklahoma, which is located just south of Oklahoma City in the middle of the state. Noah had recently graduated high school in the spring of 2023 and was waiting for his cousin to do the same the following year so they both could enlist in the Marine Corp together and serve our country. By all accounts Noah was a ladies man, standing at 6'2" with an athletic build, in high school he was a 4-sport athlete with American Football and Wrestling among them. His family also says he was adventurous, kind and very much a jokester who would happily play pranks on his family. Last Labor Day weekend, the first weekend of September 2023, Noah was deciding between attending Rocklahoma, an annual 3-day hard rock and metal festival held in Pryor, Oklahoma, with family members or attending a 4-day Labor Day weekend bash/22nd birthday party of a friend. Noah considered going to Rocklahoma, but changed his mind when the family members he'd be attending with said they didn't think it was a good idea for Noah's 16 year old friend to join them there, since they didn't know this friend's family and Rocklahoma is big for consuming alcohol. With that, everyone went their own way to celebrate the holiday weekend.
The Labor Day/Birthday party was for a female friend of Noah's who was turning 22. It had been advertised on Snapchat, even containing the address, so quite a few people were expected to attend. Noah drove himself to the party on Saturday and by all accounts enjoyed himself. He did text his family member who was at Rocklahoma and express regret at not going with them, but it doesn't appear that this put too much of a damper on his attitude at the house party. After spending Saturday at the birthday girl's house, Noah returned home Sunday, probably to freshen up and take care of any outstanding errands or just check in with his grandmother, with whom he lived. Also, Noah's car was leaking from the oil pan, so it sounds like part of the reason to return home was to leave it there so he wouldn't have to worry about it. There are two stories about what happened next: The first is that one of Noah's friends picked him up from his house on Sunday, but took him to a truck stop so he could grab some food from the Sonic there. Oddly, the friend who took him there says he left him there and Noah was then given a ride to the party by the birthday girl, who had to come pick him up. The other story is that his best friend picked him up from his house and took him directly to the party, leaving him in the driveway. Either way, Noah was back at the party on Sunday and according to those present, was very much enjoying himself. There were videos from the party showing Noah and his friends doing "guy things" like the Slap Game, where two people try to slap each other across the face as hard as they can. Just "macho" drunken teenage guy things. There was also video from the party of the guests playing "classic" party games such as beer pong.
With all the drinking going on, some issues were bound to arise. A confrontation happened between Noah and his best friend. Noah had been in a corner with his best friend's girlfriend and apparently they had their backs to everyone else while talking. The best friend took exception to this and an argument ensued. Luckily, it did not become physical and they made up shortly after, but this event with the best friend and his girlfriend is important for later. A second confrontation occurred between Noah and a 16 year old guest that did become physical. The 16 year old accused Noah of hiding his phone, although the reasons why he thought Noah did it have not been stated. During the argument the kid "fishhooked" Noah and Noah returned the favor by biting his finger. It seems like the other people there were able to diffuse the situation and the kid's phone was found underneath another guest who was sleeping on a couch. As the day went on, things continued to become crazier as the people at the party drank more and more. At one point girls at the party started signing their names on Noah's torso and buttocks, writing things such as "Noah's hot!" and drawing a cartoon penis on his rear-end. Noah and the best friend he had the argument with even drove a John Deere "Gator" UTV "Side by Side" around the property, but stopped when Noah scrapped his hand almost flipping it over. Some people even say that Noah was tossed from the UTV, but he was checked out by a nurse at the party and she said he had nothing to worry about. Another event worth mentioning is that the birthday girl seemed to have a crush on Noah. Noah realized this, or was told this, and while talking to her about it called her a "fat, nasty b*tch". I assume that they were close friends and this is just a drunken teen being a drunken teen. An odd thing to mention is that this girl's mother, who also lives in the home, had told Noah's family that she believed Noah wanted her sexually. Whether this is true or not, I have no clue, but it seems a very weird thing to say to the family of a 19 year old your daughter is friends with.
So here's where the mystery comes in. Early Monday morning (September 4th, 2023), after 2:00am, the guests say that Noah was upset about something and that it might have had to do with sleeping in either the birthday girl's or her mother's bed. One of them either heard, or saw, Noah attempting to sleep in their bed and demanded that he go on the floor. This apparently upset Noah so much that he said he needed to go out for a walk, completely drunk, very early in the morning. The guests say Noah was wearing his best friend's shorts (we'll get to his clothes later) and could only find one of his shoes, so he grabbed another shoe lying around the house and took off out the front door. The house had a 1/2 mile long driveway that then went out to US-81, a major North-South highway that runs for 1,200+ miles through the central US. At 3:41am, a friend of Noah's posted a weird Snapchat: a photo of a girl at the party smiling, with the caption "well, Noah's missing". This was the last Snapchat posted by any of the partygoers after days of constant videos and pics. Around 5:00am, a semi-truck driving along US-81 saw something he believed to be a body lying on the shoulder of the road. After driving past, he became concerned and turned around to confirm what he saw. By the time he got back, two other vehicles had stopped in front of the lifeless body of Noah on the shoulder. He was completely naked wearing only 2 mismatched shoes and curled up in a fetal position. He appeared to have blunt force trauma to the back of his head. He had small scrapes on his left shoulder and left hip and his fingertips on both hands were reported as being "shredded", down to the bone. Noah's front top and bottom teeth had also been knocked out and they were found scattered at the scene. There was no blood found at the scene, other than a small amount around Noah's injuries. Very concerning was the fact that there was no writing on his body anywhere. Not on his torso and not on his buttocks. The shorts Noah was wearing were found folded up next him. The people at the party said "They must've been knocked off when he was hit.", which obviously does not make sense.
Around 6:00am, with the police already notified by the people who found Noah, all Snapchat's/social media from people at the party was deleted. His friends and acquaintances at the party say they have no idea what led up to his death and they were unaware of it. The police did not search the house because they said: "Noah wasn't found there.". They did eventually conduct a "mass" interview with all the partygoers. During this interview, Noah's best friend's girlfriend, the one that led to his first confrontation, told police she had never met Noah. She had wiped her phone so completely that even her boyfriend's number had been deleted. When the guests were asked about Noah being naked, the girls said they gave Noah a "shower", but Noah's mental state at the time, whether mildly drunk or completely inebriated, has been an area of dispute among the guests. Some say he was joking around and being himself while being showered, other accounts state that he was barely conscious. Noah's clothing he wore to the party that night has never been located. Police were told that after Noah showered his clothes were dirty, so he wore his friend's shorts. There is a rumor that his best friend's father found Noah's shirt from the party, which was then cut-up and distributed to the party attendees as a "memento". In addition to this event with his shirt, there is also information that his best friend's father had some of Noah's teeth in his pocket. He stated he "accidentally" picked them up from the crime scene. It's worth stating that this particular individual has been on Noah's family's Facebook memorial page for months, arguing with others on there. Just very odd behavior from an adult father who's son's best friend died mysteriously. But, on this same topic, NONE of the partygoers or their families have ever visited Noah's family to express their condolences. Never once.
Since Noah's friends and others at the party said they didn't know what happened, the police had their work cut out for them. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol obtained a "geofence" warrant covering a 1-1/2 mile radius around the party house. What they found was a bit disturbing. Around the time it is believed Noah died, 2 phones were traced as having left the house, heading to the location of his body. After briefly staying there, the two phones returned to the house. People at the party told a private investigator hired by Noah's family that they went out looking for Noah in the UTV/Gator that Noah and his friend had been on earlier. If they had really done this, they would have found him since the phones were at the spot Noah was found. It has not been released who exactly this was. Also revealed when police searched phones was a video of the birthday girl and her sister on their front porch, screaming at each other about Noah leaving the party. It is believed that this could be relevant. The Texas Rangers also became involved, due to the fact that two men at the party were from Texas. It is not known if these men are persons of interest. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol also quietly issued a warrant for a "black pick-up truck" believed to have been used to dump his body, but it is unknown why they are looking for this particular vehicle. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has unequivocally stated that this was 100% NOT a hit-and-run. They have now also said that this is NOT a murder investigation. The Medical Examiner's report released on Monday, May 13th 2024 stated that Noah died from "Multiple Blunt Force injuries", but list the manner in which this happened as "unknown". His report also detailed extensive injuries to the teen's upper body, including 10 broken ribs, serious skull, neck, and spine fractures, internal bleeding, brain and organ damage, and cuts and grazes all over his body. The autopsy also revealed air in both his cranial cavity and spinal cord, extremely rare conditions only caused by massive head trauma. The family has heard rumors that a golf club from the set in his best friend's truck may have been involved, but nothing else has come of this.
The family has engaged with a private investigator, who did uncover previously unknown information, and gave that to the police. They have also said that there is much more which has not been publicly released and that the search of the phones did uncover good information. Also according to the family, some evidence has been covered-up or lost and that the day after the party, the birthday girl's house and property reeked of bleach. Despite this, his family says good things are going on behind the scenes.
So, with all of the above information, it doesn't seem to be a stretch to say that someone from the party knows something. It is my personal belief that this case will be resolved, but I think three things will have to happen: Time, Pressure and Guilt. At some point in the future, someone from the party will feel guilty, or media pressure will get to them and they will talk. Unfortunately, it may take some time unless the police uncover new evidence sooner. So im a 20 yrss old female and have a sister who is 23 . It was summer. He needed money to pay for school next year. He decided to get a job. He needed to apply to different places. He first made a resume. He then made a cover letter. He walked around his neighborhood.

My parents routinely bring this up and it just seems like it’s time to let it go, but I’m wondering if I really did something very horrible. A similar situation is happening now and I’m wondering how differently I should handle it. For background my mom was physically abusive to me and I ‘escaped’ from her insanity about 6 months ago.
I got engaged in Spring 2020, and that summer (so early Covid days) I was a state employee and was asked to work at a Covid test site which soon became a vaccine site. This was 1.5 hours from my house and the hours were 6am-6pm so I was out of my house from 430am-730pm. It was at least 5 days/week, sometimes more. I was so exhausted that I started to lose my vision in 1 eye, that went away as soon as I stopped working those hours. My husband and I also had a small farm, multiple rental properties, there was just a lot going on.
My mom was making my wedding planning an absolute nightmare, she would call me and scream at me bringing up things from before I was even born (issues with my biological dad), sit my husband and I down for hours long discussions about why our wedding planning was selfish, etc. The issue for her was that we wanted a small wedding with only our families (25ish people) and my sister was having a huge $100k+ wedding that fall and we were planning on our small wedding being around that time as well, because I was told I have fertility issues and may not be able to become pregnant so we wanted to move things along quickly. I don’t even know why I entertained her opinions and these conversations but I was just terrified of upsetting her because she would unleash this rage that left me emotionally decimated for days or weeks at a time (I’m in therapy now and feel a lot better). Since our wedding was small we didn’t need any money for it from her and needed very little input from my parents, but I did let them invite some of their friends after enough arguing (it was super awkward and I hated it) and tried to entertain these conversations because they’re my parents.
July 2020 my mom went in for a routine surgery and I guess because she’s in absolutely terrible shape due to never exercising and eating junk food every day plus whatever error the doctor may have made, it turned into a near-death experience and she had to be in the hospital for 2ish weeks and after she went home she had to go back for another week. Lots of tests, infections, resulting in her being discharged ‘healthy’ and she went back to her normal life.
This was the height of my work at the Covid site and I was partly in charge of managing the site. The hospital she was it was an hour away from my house, the opposite direction as the test site. I got coverage and visited my mom a 2 or 3 times the first week she was in the hospital. This was during the heat of the screaming episodes she had at me so I felt really uncomfortable but pretended to be a good daughter and brought her everything I could, like self care packages, sat with her, did her hair, she’d text me when I was a few minutes from the hospital asking me to pick her up some smoothies or sandwiches from a place in the next town over and I’d just do it. When she went home I brought her healthy ready to eat groceries and homemade food that rotted in their refrigerator, while they asked for more. My stepdad was fully available this whole time and I cooked and brought him food too.
My mom would complain that I wasn’t involving her in my wedding plans enough while in the hospital. That was something I didn’t want to discuss with her bc of how stressful the conversations were, I tried to tell her we can talk about it later, but she got really upset and so I gave in and updated her on the progress. Immediately it turned into a fight and she screamed and cried at me. My stepdad called me and absolutely eviscerated me for ‘doing this’ to my mom. I was in shock and didn’t visit her for about a week after that.
A few months after her hospital situation, the calls started coming where she’d cry on the phone about how I never visited her at the hospital, I abandoned her, I’m horrible and selfish, etc. She got her medical records and read through them to try and make a lawsuit which never happened and apparently the only thing she saw in the records was that I was never visiting.
Yes, I could have visited more. But how much more? I wonder what was actually expected of me? I have a life, I was going into a panic freeze mode when I thought of her and completely shut down when I saw her. I was trying my best to balance everything. But now this situation is brought up and I don’t know what to think about it. Now my grandma is in the hospital and it’s turning into the same situation and I don’t know what to do or think.

I'm honestly at a loss of what to do. Until half a year ago I was engaged and had everything I never thought I would have until she decided she was no longer happy. It's been more than a few years since I was in the dating market, but things have drastically changed for me due to a horrible incident that occurred a while back. A bit of backstory, and I'll included a TlDr at the end.
Several years back there was a hobby group I used to regularly attend, and one day this woman who had only started showing up recently took an interest in me. I'd just gotten out of a pretty bad relationship a few months before that, so when she made a move on me, I took her up on it to see where things would go. I wasn't use to a woman actually making the first move, so I took it as a good sign. We saw each other for the next few weeks and in that time we had gotten physical a few times, with her making the first move on that as well. Fast forward to the end of our time together when I found out she had a boyfriend the entire time and was cheating on him with me. I broke it off with her because I didn't want to be "the other guy" to some poor sap, and she wasn't pleased with me for finding out. Her boyfriend had nearly caught her cheating, so what did she do? She threw me under the bus and told him I was "just some creep who wouldn't leave her alone". Hilarious, because I had chat logs that showed nothing but positive interactions between us and call logs showing we would spend several hours a week on the phone together. I block her on everything and move on with my life.
Fast forward several years later, I'm engaged and in a happy relationship, and a gal pal of mine DM's me to tell me she saw a post about me in a group on FB. She sent me live updates on the post as well. I guess these groups called "Are We Dating The Same Guy" popped up seemingly everywhere, and our local group had nearly 50,000 local women in it at that time. Considering I live in what's generally called a "small city", this was extremely concerning. The poster was the woman from the hobby shop, and she uploaded my full name and multiple photos of me. In the post she said that I "violently rxped" her, was a "woman beater", and called me a "dangerous predator". I felt sick to my stomach. Worse than that, at least 15 different women were commenting on the post verifying it was "all true". Only 1 woman tried to defend me, a woman I used to work with, and within minutes her comments were deleted and she was banned from the group. As for all the other women commenting, half of them were women I hadn't seen since literally high school and never spoke to because I was a quiet nerdy kid who stuck to his friends. One of them even said she had "first hand experience", but I had never even spoken one word to her in my life. The other women commenting, I didn't recognize their names or faces at all and was certain I'd never met or spoken to any of them. Comments ranged from saying things like I "stalked them home", "assaulted them at a club" (I don't drink or go to bars), and one even said that I "forcefully penetrated her" in her own home, despite not even knowing who she is.
I spent that entire day having a panic attack and was on the phone with the mental health crisis line for a good while. When I went to work the next day, female co-workers who were normally friendly and cheerful towards me looked at me with disgust or walked in the other direction when they saw me coming. I went home early that day after taking another panic attack in the bathroom. Later that night I had a missed phone call from our local police. Called back, hoping it was just a prank call, but it wasn't. An officer actually wanted to speak with me about some grave accusations that were brought to him. It turns out the hobby shop woman and other she knew collectively called in "anonymous tips" about me, but in those tips I wasn't a "violent rxpist". Instead, these tips included where I worked and told the police I was "dangerous to children". I remember nearly passing out on the phone from panicking again. Turns out the officer I was spoking to already suspected it was BS, because these groups were generating hundreds of "anonymous tips" a day for them. The investigation was closed and branded as "malicious gossip" and I never heard from the police again.
Despite that, my reputation was ruined forever. My partner at the time actually had my back and was a huge pillar of support, but I was still a wreck. I became a recluse and started going to therapy every couple of weeks. In our local group, old posts of guys are "bumped" all the time whenever a guy is found on a dating site or women remember he exists. The group has nearly doubled in size since then too. Posts aren't even about dangerous people, but I'll see posts all the time like "This guy just matched with me and hasn't messaged me yet, any tea??" and even random creep shots of guys at the gym saying things like "This guy is super cute, any tea or red flags??" I see nothing to do with "safety" and actual dangerous dudes I've known over the years haven't appeared there at all. Old classmate kidnapped and nearly beat his partner to death? No post. Dude admits to mxlesting his partners toddler? No post. Guy doesn't buy a gal a gift after a date? He's a monster and must be posted about. It was easy enough to get in there with a dummy account to make sure I wasn't caught off guard again.
---Fast forward to today. I unfortunately find myself single when I never thought I would be again. I'm still somewhat of a recluse, don't keep any photos of my name on social media, nor do I use my real name. I've disappeared as much as possible. I'm still terrified that someone there will remember I exist and post about me again, as I see happen to other men daily. Dating websites are just asking for trouble, as most posts in this group are screenshots of guys profiles. If I dare take a photo of myself and put it in a dating website, odds are very good I'd be posted and would have to suffer through the same ordeal yet again. I can't afford (nor could I back then) the several thousands of dollars to take someone to court for slandelibel, and Facebook says these posts aren't against their "community standards". Even then, that's like cutting a single head off of a hydra knowing that more will take it's place. Meeting people IRL just doesn't happen anymore and it's frowned upon to try to meet women in public settings as opposed to online dating where they can screen everyone beforehand. Online dating is no longer safe for me. How am I to ever be with someone again if OLD is off the table and I have a destroyed reputation?

It's really not that serious.” Though the holographic representation of War Chief Neshkaname, complete with ocean blue eyes and linear facial tattoos on his tan face, looked quite noticeably tired, his overall demeanor seemed fairly positive. “I just got out of a meeting with representatives from the different protesting groups and all of them agree with the general idea of what we're trying to do with our united defense fleet. There's just quite a bit of disagreement about how our Confederacy should approach the questions related to Earth, Mars, and everyone in Sol.”
“What kind of questions are we talking about here?” General Robert Andrews, the now former General of the US Army, was the first to speak up amongst the crowd of military leaders. “Nothing about invading Earth, I hope.”
“Well…” Though Rob was only half serious about his comment concerning Earth, the way the commanding officer of the Nishnabe Militia’s Blue Fleet began his response put a genuinely concerned expression on a few faces from Sol. “It's only a small percent of our population who are calling for war to reclaim land. A few million people at most, none of whom hold any positions of leadership in our military. Luckily, there are far more people calling for boycotts, embargoes, or blockades as opposed to anything direct.”
“War Chief, to many governments on Earth, an embargo, and especially a blockade, would be considered akin to a direct declaration of war.” General Renee Descartes, the former Chief of Defense Staff of France and Second in Command of the European Union's Unified Military, despite the dark bags under her eyes implying she hadn't gotten anywhere near enough sleep before this meeting, retained her rather elegant poise when adding that bit of necessary context. “You see, the economy of Earth is highly reliant on importing raw materials from space. With the climate being as delicate as it is, no one is willing to risk the kinds of planetside resource harvesting necessary to keep the thirteen billion people in the Earth’s Sphere of Influence employed, fed, and happy. More importantly, we are starting to run out of easily accessible mineral deposits in space.”
“Yes, the lunar mines and the near-Earth asteroid colonies still under UN-E control simply aren't producing nearly enough material to meet growing demand.” Admiral Nathaniel Adeoye, who had also given up his position as the Chief of Astral Naval Staff of the African Federation, chimed in with a clearly worried tone in his deep voice. “While I can understand the rage some of your people must feel, especially towards Americans, the many different people of Africa were in no way responsible for the colonization of America. In fact, we were subject to colonialism ourselves.”
“At least y'all still got yahr homelands!” Commandant General Daniel Chasinghorse, the former Commander of the entirety of MarsGov's Void-Marine Corps, didn't mean for his statement directed at Adeoye to sound as vitriolic as it did. However, the idea of him, his Lakota people, and all the displaced Native American Nations who were now mostly living in space or on Mars potentially being included in the Nishnabe’s reasonably negative reaction towards the people of Earth had put him on edge. “Sorry for snappin’ at yah like that, Nate. But the people livin’ on Mars ain't nothin’ done to deserve bein’ restricted by an embargo or blockade. We need all the extra-Solar tech we can get if we're gonna keep our population's health from declining even further. And I’m sure the African Lunar colonies could really use that medical and gravity tech too!”
“Nothing's been decided yet, and most people on Shkegpewen want peace, we just haven't reached a consensus on how that peace will look.” War Chief Msko Pkwenech, the commander of the Nishnabe Militia’s Red Fleet, interjected while making an open gesture with his hands to try to pat down the tension building up in this meeting room. “And if helps at all, we did take quite a few public votes concerning technology sharing for things we consider essential. But Maser probably has quicker access to the results than I would.”
“About ninety percent of respondents voted to immediately authorize and start sending out medical and gravity tech, including a production ship to come out and make things in-system, which is well above the seventy-five percent consensus needed to move forward.” As soon as the Light-born AI holographically representing their consciousness as an androgynous human began to speak in an incredibly soothing tone, the stress levels in the room began to fall. “There are currently a few councils debating the finer details and arranging logistics of what will be sent. However, the specifics of who gets what and when they get it will be negotiated between the respective governments in Sol and the Nishnabe Intergovernmental Council. Our job as the United Human Defense Fleet is not to interfere with diplomacy between nations, just to ensure that diplomacy is handled in a reasonable and non-threatening manner. Now, with that said, the vote to provide essential assistance was just one if a few taken over the last couple weeks. And while that poll was overwhelming and definitive, the ones concerning visas, immigration, galactic trade, and interspecies relations all fell below the consensus threshold for the Confederacy to adopt an official policy. When we say embargoes and blockades, we are purely referring to trade interactions between species, not between humanity and your economic exclusive zone. Once the relevant councils develop updated options for people to vote on, the next vote will be held.”
“An’ how long's all that gonna take?” Commandant Admiral Carol Nez, as the former head of MarsGov’s Astral Intelligence Collective and Councilmember in the Navajo Nation of Mars, was keenly aware of both the pressing urge of many on the red planet to live on a world with a breathable atmosphere and how just long it often took to for Native Nations to build a consensus. “Everaday we got at least a thousand babies born in Martian maternity stations an’ at least thirty percent ‘ave some kinda health issues. The sooner we get y'all's medical tech, the more kids that're gonna grow up to be happy an’ healthy!”
“We are well aware of the negative health implications of trying to raise children in low-gravity.” Msko already had his tablet out and was in the process of sending over the relevant information to his counterparts from Earth and Mars. “Our genetic modification technologies require individualized sequencing but they can be applied before or after birth to correct any serious issues. They can even be used well into adulthood. I got my eye color changed when I became an adult, so we can help anyone who hasn’t already gotten cybernetic replacements for affected body parts. All of our ships still in Sol are actively trying to produce as much of the base materials as they can and are working with doctors from your stations to get everything deployed as quickly as possible.”
“Why don’cha just teach our docs how to do it?” As soon as Carol got the question out, Msko and Nesh shot each other cautious glances before they both looked towards Maser.
“Well, Commandant Admiral Nez…” As soon as the hologram of the AI began to speak, it was clear their words were directed at everyone present from Sol. “To be completely blunt with all of you, we have reason to believe that the moment people from either Mars or Earth got full access to the genetic manipulation technology the Nishnabe utilize, someone would begin conducting experiments to turn humans into living weapons even more dangerous than the cybernetic ones you already produce. The cybernetics sported by many of your civilians would be legally considered military-grade combat modifications, and individuals with those cybernetics would be barred from entering many GCC standard space stations. We know there are doctors within both UN-E and MarsGov already working on projects to modify your species genome to produce what you call super soldiers, which something which is generally highly illegal under GCC laws. In fact, the genetic manipulation done to Sarah and Johnathan McAfree would likely be considered combat adjacent modifications according to GCC standards, and they would also be subject to various limitations due to their enhanced physiology.”
“Hey, now! Spooky an’ ‘er brother ain’t that scary!” Though he had been spending most of this meeting quietly sitting in his corner of the round table and trying to stay out of things he considered to be beyond his expertise, Professor Mikhail T. River felt compelled to say something now that his ex and her brother had been brought up. “Sure, she can bench press me. An’ Johnny can pick up the stove to sweep under it. But that ain't the gnarliest I ever seen! I mean, jus’ look at Comandante Harrison over here!”

While the members of the United Human Defense Fleet Council were in their meeting and discussing the rumors of Nishnabe protests Sarah had also caught wind of, that was far above her paygrade. Despite a tinge of concern fluttering away in the back of the unusually tall and rather athletically built Scotswoman’s mind, she wasn't worried about the things she had no control over. At the moment, she, her rather short and somewhat pudgy mother, and her colossal but cognitively limited brother were relaxing in the stables of the opulent nature area aboard UHDF DS-1 and spending time with the unicorn-like kaehi'xito that Mik had gifted to them. Though the three gingers were each busy with different things most of the day, Donna and Johnny with their Nishnabemwin and remote job training courses while Sarah performed her role as an intelligence analyst, the small family from Glasgow truly cherished this time they got to spend together. And the fact they were bonding with the closest living creatures in the galaxy to unicorns only made this even better for all of them.
“Hey Sarah! There you are!” As soon as Miakorva's voice called out from the entrance to the stable building, Sarah, her family, and the three unicorn-like creatures turned to see the Qui’ztar approaching them with familiar canine at her side. “And look who I found wandering around the ship! Did you know that Mikhail lets her walk around unsupervised?”
“Hiya Mia!” Being the closest to the entrance, Johnny was the first to greet the lanky and seemingly muscular blue woman before he crouched down low and extended a hand towards the Cane Corso. “An’ Micky lets her roam cuz she's a good girlie. Isn't tha’ righ’, Terry?”
“Terry Good dog!” Terry’s soft but deep whine was translated by her collar while she approached the man with her tail vigorously wagging.
“Terry's a trained station guard dog, Mia.” Sarah added while shooting the Qui’ztar intelligence officer a cheeky wink and coy smile. “It's ‘er job to wander a station, ‘r in this case a ship, an’ be on the lookout for trouble. An’ now that she can talk, she's a perfect workin’ animal. But wha’s up? Were yah lookin’ for me?”
“Oh, yes. Yes, I was. But… uh…” Mia paused for a moment as she watched the massive beast of a dog place her paws on Johnny's shoulders and begin licking the man's face as if he had smothered some kind of invisible but quite tasty treat across his skin. “Isn’t there a concern that Terry may… Well… Hurt someone? Her species are non-sapient apex predators with strong hunting instincts, correct?”
“Tha's why she and most other workin’ dogs ‘re so well trained, love.” Donna replied with a giggle, the adorable display of affection between her son and Mik's dog forcing a massive smile across her freckled and slightly wrinkled face. “There's always a bit o’ risk with dogs, especially the biggins like Terry ‘ere. But if these unicorns aren't freakin’ out cuz o’ ‘er, then we don’ gotta be worried.”
“Kaehi'xito didn’t evolve with canine predators, so they likely don't even recognize her as a potential threat.” As Mia watched the beast of a dog lean more of her weight on to Johnny, she half expected the large and well-built man to fall over from the force. However, much to her surprise, the man stopped his energetic scratching on Terry's sides, wrapped his arms around her waist, and effortlessly lifted the gargantuan animal into the air, all the while it continued to lick his face. “But seeing you carry that creature like a baby would be enough to make almost anyone with caniphobia be cautiously curious about these creatures. And they must not be as heavy as they look if you can pick one up so easily.”
“Oh, Terry’s a thickin! At least fifteen stone!” In a motion that seemed in utter opposition to Johnny's comment, the man half-tossed the Cane Corso into the air so that he could reposition his hands to cradle the massive canine as if she were a literal baby. “But she's still a good lil pupper, ain't yah, Terry?”
“Terry, good baby!” Though Terry hadn't started flailing or showing any obvious signs of discomfort, she suddenly turned her head towards Sarah with a longing look in her golden eyes. “Pack-mother cuddle?”
“Yeah, sure, yah big ol’ lunk.”
Though Mia could believe a man as impressively large as Johnny may not have much difficulty in lifting a hundred kilo canine, she was completely flabbergasted by Sarah's ability to simply pull Terry from Johnny's grasp and continue to hold the animal up without even the slightest indication of strain. Not only had she just gotten confirmation that this creature was just as heavy as she thought, Miakorva was now being faced with the fact that the woman she had been cuddling with a night for quite some time was significantly stronger than she had realized. According to all the interspecies education she had received, which may have been slightly biased by the Qui’ztar professor teaching the courses, her own species had the highest ratio of strength to body mass of any Ascended species. And while she was aware that this woman she had formed a relationship with weighed about the same as she did despite being several centimeters shorter, Mia had yet to witness Sarah's capabilities demonstrated in such a casual manner.
“By the Matriarch, Sarah!” The lanky blue woman couldn't help herself as her bioluminescent freckles lit up at the shocking display of strength. “How are you that strong?!?”
“Gene mods.” Though Sarah didn't hesitate in her answer, she did wince slightly as she did so. “Me muscles’re almost twice as dense as the average human's. Tha's actually somethin’ I had to talk to Maser an’ NAN abou’ the other day. ‘Parently tha’ ain't a thing most species do for some reason. Bu’ I'm pre’y sure we talked abou’ tha’ already.”
“You did mention it but… Well… I didn't realize your people's genetic engineering was that sophisticated. But I guess that does confirm a couple of the rumors I've heard that I was going to ask you about.”
“Wha’ rumors?” Donna blurted out with a bit too defensive of a tone as her eyes fell upon her son who had gone back to brushing his vaguely moose-like unicorn. “An’ who's spreadin’ ‘em?”
“Well…” Mia hesitated for a moment, causing the two Scotswomen to shoot her suspicious looks. “I was assisting with the logistical planning with the Nishnabe in charge of the distribution of medicine to people on Earth and Mars, most of which involved genetic modification serums. And when I asked why there was no plan, or even consideration, of passing on the technology so it could be locally produced, the people I was working with told me there were rumors of… Well… My people would call it Qui'kijarto niko'txo, which would roughly translate to an enhanced soldier project.”
“Yahr people tried to make super soldiers, too?” Sarah asked with a laugh that implied a sense of relief.
“No!” The instant denial caused Sarah to cease her laughter and forced a slight frown on her rather pale and freckled face. “As soon as my people began developing genetic engineering almost thirty thousand years ago, our government and scientific community came together to completely outlaw any attempts to enhance our form in a way that would make us even deadlier in combat. Besides that, even after thirty thousand years of research, we have only recently mastered the ability to stabilize our genetics and guard against speciation due to diverse environmental conditions.”
“Yah really tryin to tell us yahr people never tried to improve themselves?” The older Scotswoman chimed in with a clearly doubtful expression. “No one ever tried to give their kids an advantage in life? Super soldiers experiments ain't the only thing we use gene modding for.”
“Well… No… I don’t believe we ever have.” Mia hadn't really put much thought into it, even when she and Sarah had talked about it before. But now she was starting to realize that an attempt to give a child an advantage in life by increasing their physical capabilities could directly translate to turning that child into an ideal soldier. “As far as I know, very few other species have engaged in that form of genetic modification. And the ones who have tried struggled to produce anything truly successful.”
“Gene mods ain't always successful, Mia.” Johnny didn't bother to look away from the unicorn he was brushing as he made the comment lest he see the sadness that suddenly appeared in his mother's eyes. “Bu’ I learned the other day tha’ Nishnabe gene tech is way better than wha’ we got on Earth. Maybe they'll ‘ave some stuff to teach us after they feel we're trustworthy enough to learn it.”

Hello everyone! I found other posts about people talking about their biscalp experience super helpful leading up to my surgery, so I wanted to post my experience as well! I just had my surgery Monday morning, about two days ago.
I'm a 31 cisgender white woman, and I got my procedure done through University of Michigan Health. Honestly, I had such a positive experience! I've never had any kind of surgery done before, so I didn't know how my body would handle it. I'm also heavier, and I wasn't sure if my weight would be an issue. Long story short, I had zero issues or complications, and my surgery only took 37 minutes!
The entire care team was super warm, and I had a lot of people checking in on me, going over the procedure, and so on. Since U of M Health is a big teaching organization, it felt like I had double the people checking on me - both the seasoned doctors/nurses/anesthesiologists and the younger residents. Honestly, it was more comforting than I expected, and I was happy that the majority of my care team, including my surgeon and surgical resident, were women!
They gave me warm blankets after I changed into my gown, and it took them a bit of time to find a vein for my IV. My hand is a little bruised since they couldn't find a good vein there. I'm actually glad they went with my inner elbow instead - hand IVs suck imo. They gave me Tylenol and anti-nausea meds orally and started the IV.
Then, various people stopped by to review recovery, confirm the procedure, and do the anesthesiology checks. They also took my post-op snack and drink requests! I probably waited like 30 minutes in pre-op, and we actually got to go to the OR ahead of schedule. When it was time to go, things kicked into motion pretty quickly. They gave me some medication in my IV that "would make me feel like I had a few stiff drinks." Things got fuzzy at this point, but I think it was like some kind of anti-anxiety med. They rolled me into the OR, where I scooted over to the operating table. They started doing all their verbal checks, and they gave me a mask with oxygen. I remember being told to breathe deeply, then I think they said they were switching to the anesthesia. I was out immediately, and I remember absolutely nothing past that point!
During my surgery, my partner got text updates in the waiting room, and he went to the in-house pharmacy to get my post-op meds. The surgeon called him when the surgery was over and said it went well! They kept him in the waiting room until I started waking up. The surgery itself only took 37 minutes, and they said I slept afterward for about 40 minutes or so.
When I woke up, I actually felt pretty good! I wasn't in much pain at all, and I was able to have relatively lucid conversations. I got ginger ale, crackers, and graham crackers, and the nurse made sure I took my time waking up. Apparently, I started humming/singing Hot to Go while I was coming to 😂. The nurse took off the various stickers and the puffy leg things they put on you in surgery. I felt like I had to pee, so I slowly got dressed and went to the bathroom with my partner's help. Turns out I didn't really have to pee, it was more just a feeling of pressure.
After I was more awake, my partner pulled the car around and they sent me on my way!
They called the morning after to check up on me. They also gave me laparoscopic photos of the surgery, which I wasn't expecting! They are both weird and fascinating to look at. One of my surgeons wrote, "No tubes!" in one of the post-scalp photos, lol. In my patient portal, there are also fairly detailed descriptions of how the anesthesia and surgery went.
I was prescribed Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Miralax, and five Oxycodone. I've been taking the first two in shifts, and I only take the Oxycodone to sleep. I've taken the Miralax a bit. Granted, I only had my surgery on Monday (two days ago), but I've been able to use the bathroom. I'm also drinking a ton of water, ginger ale, and kombucha.
For recovery, the biggest things have been keeping cats off my lap, avoiding any sort of strained movements, using lots of pillows to get comfy, and working with my appetite. I'm not really nauseous, but only certain things sound good. I've been using a lot of pillows to get comfy on a recliner, and I'm trying to both get up and walk a bit without overdoing it. I have a bit of shoulder discomfort, and my throat is still kinda sore and phlegmy from being intubated. I also just feel generally wiped out. My incisions are sore, but honestly, it's not bad. My abdomen is tender and bloated.
So now it's just the 4-week recovery period. No heavy lifting or strain on the abdomen for 4 weeks, which includes things like vacuuming. And, no using tampons for two weeks.
I don't want to jinx myself, but the whole thing is not as bad as I anticipated. Obviously, everyone's body is different, but I hope this helps put some folks at ease - it can go really smoothly! My surgeon is seriously a wizard. She thought she might have to make a larger incision since I carry weight around my belly, but she didn't! And I can't get over how quickly it went! I appreciate how much information I got about the surgery, too.
I feel lucky that I had such a positive experience. It's a huge weight off my shoulders, and I'm super proud that I took this step!
