2024.05.16 22:45 5thAvenuePhil Can’t find the Bluetooth receiver in my 2008 C300
The aux in the glove box is not connected and does not work, I followed the aux wire as far as I could without getting into the dashboard so I know the receiver to play music (not an option on this car) isn’t in or behind the glove box. One owner car who passed away, all I could gather was that he babied this thing and went high end on everything. The name of the Bluetooth device that I connect to is “JC-AUDIO-BT8645” and when I google this, the only result that comes up mention Becker Bluetooth or Becker Audio. Anyone who might know how I’d go about replacing this thing, I’d appreciate it. Reason for post is that the Bluetooth sounds terrible, constant amplifier whine and the mids are non existent, strange echo on every type of music genre. I know it’s not the speakers because the satellite radio sounds perfect.

Me (30F) and my fiancé' (42M) live together in the house he bought before we began the relationship. We do not have children or pets, or unattended guests.
He has had cameras (audio and video) in place since BEFORE I moved in, at every entry point to the house, as well as inside the bedroom (facing the bed) and the living room (full view of living room and kitchen). He is the only 1 who has access to the footage, which he can pull up on his phone at the drop of a hat. Initially I was a bit uncomfortable with the cameras in the living room and bedroom, but never felt entitled to request that he remove them because he owns the house.
We are engaged now, and I have become increasingly uncomfortable and irritated/ resentful about the fact that I am under constant surveillance and feeling like I don't have true privacy. I have nothing to hide, I rarely go out, and have never given him a reason to believe I would be unfaithful. I just feel a bit violated knowing that any private conversation, or intimate moment I have at home can be accessed by him at any point. I find myself having to sit in my car to have personal conversations with friends and family often. I recently started turning the cameras away when I'm chilling on the couch, or in bed.
He must have checked the cameras yesterday and noticed, and we got into a huge fight about it. His argument is that he only checks the cameras when there is an alert (which I don't believe) and that it seems like I have something to hide because I didn't seem to have a problem with this when I first moved in (which I can understand). Please be completely honest...am I wrong? If not, What would you do in my position?

Dealing with the mother in law is hard enough, but can you imagine if you also need to deal with his sisters?
His oldest sister is living next door with her husband and her parent in laws. Her husband has a little bro. According to what she said, the brother is spoiled by the parents and she dislike him. Therefore, her front door uses key because she doesn’t want the brother to come so easily and so often. But our front door uses passcode, and she came over to our house every weekends at that time. She stayed the whole day in our house on weekends.
My husbands father has diabetes and needs kidney dialysis. Most of the time, his second sis is the one who took him to the doctor or hospital. But she needs to work, so my husband also needs to help from time to time. However, whenever they ask the oldest sis to help with the dad, she would say, I am married out already. In my memory, she seldom took the dad to the doctor or the kidney dialysis. I am not good at driving, and was pregnant at that time, I picked his dad up from the hospital once (what is ironic here is that his second sis thought it was their oldest sis picked them up from the hospital even though she is the one also complained the biggest never helped), helped his second sis to send his dad to the kidney dialysis ( because she needs people to help the dad get out or in the car), and helped with translation for his dad’s physical therapy when his second sis was not available. In January of 2021, his dad’s situation is very bad and the nurse asked them to make a decision if the hospital should save his life if ….. the chance is only 50/50, and even though he was saved, he would have to do kidney dialysis for the rest of his life, and he also would have to have his leg amputation. Considering his life quality and the care taking part, his mom and second sis agreed to let him passed away naturally if that really happens. My husband had a hard time making the decisions. The oldest sister kept crying over there, and said we should not give up his life. Suddenly, she turned to me and asked about my opinion. Then I expressed my opinion, if you guys decide to save his life then you guys should share the responsibility of taking care of him and help with doctor visit and kidney dialysis, but you guys also need to think about his life quality and the fact that he would lose his legs. His second sis agreed with what I said, and my husband agreed with his mum and second sis at the end The oldest sis also agreed with then after her husband s persuasion. After his dad passed away, the oldest sis is the one cried the hardest, and the mum told one of their aunt on the phone how sad the oldest daughter is, and asked her not to cry so much, otherwise her health might be affected. Mam, you should show your love and contribute more to your father when he s still alive.

However, I accidentally found out she complained to my husband about me in the message why I always showed them bitchy face at home and why would I go back to my parents house every weekend. But the fact is she came over to our house more often when their dad’s situation was bad. And after the dad passed away, she still came over very often, which lead to her mother in law yelling at her at one time(when her father in law was in hospital because of Covid), saying no daughter in law would go back to her mums house so frequently. She’s lucky to have her husband to back her up by then. And she came over to our house to complained about it, and said I was married to her son but not selling myself to his family. My mother in law told her to keep quiet then the situation would become better.

I accidentally went to the message, and saw that the last msg his oldest sis said is if you go bankrupt don’t expect me to help you. I was wondering what would make her say this. Then I went into their msg. The first time I found out that actually she had so many complaints about my family and me. So my husband got my dad a free tablet through promotion and he shipped it to our house for setup. She saw that package with my dad’s name on it. Second sis said it might be sending here for set up. In the text she told my husband that she wanted to get a tablet and ask for suggestion. My husband asked why would u need that, you don’t use that. Then she said is this your father in law s Xmas gift? My husband explained that’s through a promotion, not he buying it. Then she said, I guess he would not get a Christmas gift since you already got him a house! lol my dad paid half of that retirement house. And because my sis and I could not get a good rate, my husband said he could help, but my sis s side will be responsible for half of the mortgage. My husband s name is also on that title! How come this house would become my dad’s Christmas gift? And in the message, she also said she s not as lucky as me, no need to wash dishes at home. But the fact is I am the one who cooked most in our house and did most of the dish cleaning before my baby came out, I am the one who cleaned the house all the time. I didn’t do so many dishes wash after the baby was born because I needed to take care of the baby and power pump is very exhausting for me at that time. For her, she doesn’t cook much at her house, because either her father in law cook or the parent in laws bring food home when they are off work or her mum would cook and ask the second sis to bring food over! And her parents in laws would clean the whole house every Wednesday at that time! Reading this I felt super angry, my face was burning and my heart was about to jump out of my breast! I directly replied bitch to her! I hung up on her when she called my husband s phone. After my husband finished the meeting , I said, “ u r in trouble now, because I just called your sis bitch!” She called my mother in law saying the brother curse her. And MIL came knocking at the door, disregarding if my husband is still in the meeting or my son was napping in her arm. She asked my husband why cursed his sis! I couldn’t stand any more, then I exploded, and questioned her why every time you defend your daughter no matter shes right or not. Do you know what she said about my parents and me in the message. I also directly called her bitch and claimed that it's her who kicked my mom out of our house when she was here to help me! That became a big arguement and I took my son back to my parents house right after the arguement.
Because of my husband, I tried to fix the relationship after half a year, and we had our own house as well.
However, just two days ago (5/14), his oldest sis called him around 10:30pm using second sis s phone because her husband got her a new phone and would like my husband to set it up for her. Her old phone is still usable, why the new phone must be set up now? And my husband is wondering why she’s not using the her husband’s phone to call but second sister’s phone. My husband went to check and found out she moved into our house, where his mom and second sis are living, with her 18 month son . And He traced that she was living there since 3/16. Not sure about exactly when as the history can only go back to two or three months. My husband and his second sis are the owners, and my husband is helping paying the mortgage ( before we moved out, he is the only one paying the mortgage). Why no one telling us about her move in. And we are sure she has no issue with her husband and parents in law because the husband just bought her the new iPhone and she s living in our house on weekdays, but on weekends she would go back to her own house. How hypocritical it is! When my son was about 8 months old she complained we went back to my parents house every weekend. But now she moved into our house even though her house is next door !!! My husband called the second sis and told her about this, expressed his disappointment about not letting him knowing this, telling her this whole shit is basically slapping my face. And also told them we are going to cancel NC trip. BTW, the oldest sister texted my husband asked him to go back to our house help clean the doggie this week, before the NC trip. Why the heck you live there , eat there, free baby sitter there, you can’t clean the dog with your sister?!!!

2024.05.16 22:12 LezBeOwn No audio on radio input. Audio works fine on Bluetooth input.
My wife’s car stereo. It’s a 2015 Scion tC OEM upgrade, Pioneer head unit. There is no audio on the radio; but audio works fine on Bluetooth. She said the audio cut in and out for a bit; and now it is totally gone. Am I right in thinking the antenna wiring is loose somewhere down the line?

2024.05.16 22:00 Massive_Learner Wayland not detecting 3rd monitor after Fedora 40 upgrade.
I have a desktop Dell PC, dual-booting with Windows 10 and Fedora. My setup has 3 monitors.
Prior to upgrading to Fedora 40, all 3 monitors were working well with Fedora 39. After upgrading to Fedora 40, the 3rd monitor just shows a black screen. As the computer is booting, I can see the Dell logo on all 3 monitors and Windows still works with the 3 monitors. However, when I am in the login screen, and after login into Gnome, only 2 monitors work. However, if I log into Gnome on Xorg, the 3 monitors do work. So I suspect it is a Wayland thing.
What is strange is that the 3rd monitor does appear with inxi, but it is still black.
Here is some info on my system after running inxi -Fzxxx:

 | The kid’s 2017 ST (factory stock) was intermittently making odd noises, mainly like things rubbing together but with some slight knocking. A Reddit post (link below) with audio of basically the same sound said the fix was a new PMM, but we did not see excessive engine movement (tested when parked) and suspected a bad CV joint. One CV boot was gone, the other was not far behind, and we got both joints replaced. But you know where this is going: the sound was still there! So, we bought a full set of Damond motor mounts. Installed the PMM first, and what do you know? Weird sounds went away, just like that video had suggested. We then installed the RMM and TMM. (Side note: the RMM greatly increased the NVH. It’s worst when taking off from a standstill. So I come from a baniya background, mostly saw people running a business and doing great in life. None of my family members have ever done a job in their life. Recently met a match who was from a corporate background. Probably a good package as he was into consultancy was working with top 4 , we didn’t ask tbh. When my parents visited his place , my parents were in shock as they hardly served any snacks. Usually in our families when someone comes over a lot of snacks and drinks are served . House furniture was very old too. They didn’t have a car as guy didn’t live with his parents and his dad doesn’t drive. So they take a cab.
Dad wasn’t impressed with all this but my mom said they seem like good people, you should talk to him. Also I don’t care much about money, always wanted a hardworking guy who is capable enough to earn rather than some rich spoiled brat. So it didn’t matter much to me. We spoke he seemed a good guy, but as we were talking I just felt he thinks every girl wants him for his money. At one point it felt we aren’t talking about marriage we are doing a business transaction. His job has made him too arrogant.
I defended him by telling my dad if he is a hardworking guy idc much,when my dad said I don’t like this guy or his family. My dad has never been a fan of guys who are doing a job. I just purchased a 2024 Limited Crosstrek 2 months ago and have only driven 700 miles since. No sunroof, no HK stereo. Just the mirror package.
I was driving slowly (30mph) on flat long road, when two quick "loud taps" sounding like from my roof, happened. I was still driving when maybe 1 minute later, two quick "loud taps" happened again. (Like a crow pecking on my roof, but no birds in the area. Sharp raps.) THEN I hear a 'faint interior sounding" rolling of a nut/screw (something small.)
I pulled over, inspected all inside and out. Shook and yanked various external and internal parts. Hood, roof rack, doors, glove box(es), mirrors, you name it. Found nothing. I could "push gently" on the center cover above the interior rear view mirror, but that's all that could possibly "move" or be loose.
Next day's drive: Small rattle, upwards on interior passenger side on flat roads. However, I haven't been able to rattle it since then. I live in a sunny, warm coastal area in So Cal. Very temperate, no weird weather.
Other hints (?): I had just taken it to an "automatic touchless car wash" a couple of days prior (which is all higher powered jets, but they didn't seem that strong except on lower body) AND I haven't had any dashboard lights come on. The car drives the same, feels the same as "new."
Does anyone have an idea of what this could be - or have you had a similar issue? It's the "rapping" which just kills me. I need the Subaru techs to believe me when I bring this to their attention. Help! Thank you forum!

Hey y’all, I’m about to travel out of state for a week so I need to bring my T with me. Usually when I travel I’m going by car and have no issue bringing it with me in a little tupperware, but this time I’m traveling by plane both ways, Delta and then American Airlines. Will I have any issue bringing the vial of T and the draw up/injection needles and syringe on the plane with me? I’m just bringing a carry on and a personal item, no checked bags, and even though the vial is smaller than 3.4floz, I’m worried the needles will get confiscated. Has anyone else flown with their T? How did you package it, will a hard shell tupperware be fine?

It’s been a long time I wanted to submit this story to the Potato Queen herself!
It’s a long story, actually it’s two stories in one, because as it involves the same person over more than decade long, it’s worth telling the whole story all at once (and it makes it may more fun too!). I decided to share it because it’s the kind of story that doesn’t seem to happen very often.
Below you will find goodies about an ex, a wedding, a dress, a delivery company and more! Please simply be mindful English is not my first language, trying my best to entertain you all the same.
This story goes back a long way, when (let’s name him) Frank (M) and myself (F) were both in college (both 17 at the time, we’re now 33), young and naive teenagers. We started as friends and eventually decided to be together. We then decided to move to another city together, as I was about to start university.
It went well for a while and then started to go south. So, long story short, after about two years together, we decided to break up. It wasn’t a mean breakup or anything, I think we were mostly disappointed it didn’t work out. Anyway.
We live in the province of Quebec. For those who don’t know, there is this weird tradition of starting and ending about any lease on July 1st. I have no idea why, but Canada’s Day has always been for anybody moving, in this province, a synonym of sweating under the sun, moving boxes, lifting heavy things and ending the day with cold beer and cheap pizza in a new and probably not so clean apartment. Why this context? Because we broke up two weeks before July 1st. It means it was virtually impossible to find another apartment so close to this date. We were about 7 hours away from both our families living on the countryside. We were also awfully broke students. We decided to give it a chance at being roommates.
Yes, it was super awkward at first, really not easy to manage to say the least. We were walking on eggshells and were definitely on edge for a while. There were also some pretty awkward situations, like this one time he decided to bring a one night home as I was sleeping in the adjacent room. Not only that, but the shameful phone call he had to make, waking me up in the middle of the night, so I could unlock the front door because he had forgotten his keys to find out he had brought home an acquaintance of mine. Nowadays I find this story delightfully funny tbh. But on that night, as I couldn’t go back to sleep because the gal decided to show off how an amazing singer she could have been —because, oh boy, this voice carried loudly all the way to my ears for more than an hour — I did not find it funny. I was furious, but prepared myself for the eventuality it would ever happen again. Do you remember the “Tiny Wall Challenges”? Let’s just say I had some games ideas after that night.
Anyway, anybody would probably have walked away but we still deeply cared for each other. We even did better than just survive through this whole year as roommates, we decided to move into a bigger apartment with two other friends. Believe it or not, we stayed there two more years. Moreover, these years were some of the best years and I still keep lots of good memories from this period.
Fast forward to the second part of the story. After being roommates for years, at some point we parted ways and lived our lives. We maintained contact throughout the years and when Frank finally started dating his wife to be, I was absolutely happy for him. He asked her to marry him and she said yes! Our friendship still held such a high place in both our hearts that he asked me to be one of his groomsmen, with his other best friend and his little brother. I felt so honoured, as I was technically a female, to be chosen to be on his side at the wedding.
The bridesmaids chose matching dresses in a beautiful forest green, all from a specialized website from UK, and I was to also be in a dress on the groom’s side, but matching the colour of the other groomsmen suits. Everything was going as planned. That being done, I ordered the dress, considering buying two inches heel shoes to go with it. It would take about four months to be done and the dress would arrive about a month and a half before the wedding. I decided to wait for the dress to arrive to pick shoes to go with it.
Four months passed, and I finally received a notice that the dress was on its way. The bridesmaids dresses arrived a bit before mine and they were all absolutely beautiful. As we all ordered from the same shop, we were able to choose different dresses that suited each of our styles, with identical fabrics that made the whole thing look fantastic.
I received the delivery’s notice, saying it was to be delivered by DHL. (If you never had to deal with this delivery company before, let’s just say this in itself is a red flag, but what could I do.)
I chose a delivery date that I could be home all day. I awaited their arrival, and waited. At some point I received a notification that they couldn’t deliver it because there was an error in the address. I called DHL customer service as soon as I read it and could verify with the clerk on the phone that there was no error on the original delivery address and that actually, internally, they miss-wrote a letter of the postal code. The person assured me that the delivery person would be notified and they would then be on their way back.
I waited. It never came.
The next morning, I received a notification that, unable to deliver it, the expeditor had agreed to DESTROY the package! I screamed! Why in the world would the UK online shop allow to destroy a custom made dress that took four months to do?! And why the hell the delivery service didn’t make any other attempt after being responsible of the address error in the first place. I was beyond mad. I called DHL, they confirmed someone at the company had agreed on the destruction of the item. I wrote to the person I was in contact with from the beginning at the online shop (this lovely clerk who clearly never asked for any of this). Over there, they couldn’t find who the hell agreed to this insane request to destroy the dress. They were also appalled and didn’t understand how it could have happened. They could put a request to redo the dress rush, but we first needed to either try to stop the destruction from happening by going to the DHL warehouse directly, or to obtain a proof from DHL that the dress was irreversibly lost forever.
It felt surreal! The fiancées were both furious too. There was only one DHL warehouse we could go to do this kind of request in the city and it was really far. As the clock was ticking, they jumped in their car, joined me, and to the warehouse we went, arriving a few minutes before closing like an epic movie scene. The clerk there was mind blown by the whole situation. It seemed we were too late and the best we could do was to have the proof that, in their system, the dress had effectively transited and was destroyed.
With photos as proof in hand, I forwarded everything to the clerk of the online dress shop. Days passed, as they were awaiting the okay to start sewing a new dress. They were really trying their best to help the situation but it seemed to be a mess over there about the whole situation. We were now a month before the wedding. At some point, I was starting to panic. They finally agreed to redo it, but it would be waaaay too close before the wedding to receive it. Like a few days before kind of close, if nothing happened in transport this time.
I decided to go shopping for another dress. I spent a whole day trying to find the perfect grey that would fit the other groomsmen suits. In the last possible boutique, there was one dress checking all the criteria. I bought the new one and wrote to the first shop, hoping they would agree to refund the lost dress.
I took an appointment later that week to do the adjustments on the new dress. I then shopped for shoes. I found a cute pair with one inch heel that would be perfect for me. I’m not used to walking with heels, so the lower the better after all.
Like all this turmoil wasn’t enough, my family called and told me that my grandfather’s health suddenly decreased. Remember? Seven hours drive from family. I canceled some plans and bought a ticket for the night’s bus ride right after the dress fitting. On that morning, the UK shop agreed to refund the dress. That part was a big relief. I went to the dress fitting. At last, three weeks before the wedding, The second dress would be ready in about seven days. I came back home to gather some things to get back out to catch my bus.
But suddenly, the doorbell rang.
I opened.
Some DHL delivery man casually gave me a package and left.
Yes. That’s what you think.
I closed the door, went to my room, sat on the bed, opened the bag. It was indeed the first dress. I had a melt down. I cried so hard. I put the dress down, looked at it, told it “I’ll deal with you when I come back” and went away to the bus station.
Few days later, coming back from the family, I collected the second dress and dealt with the first one, which no longer fitted the length of the shoes! My MIL at the time knew an old lady who was lovely enough to accommodate me and do the fitting of the first one for a as modest price. I decided to keep it a secret until the wedding day. (These friends wouldn’t do any drama about reveals etc, nor would they think it was stealing any of their thunder, don’t worry about that.)
On the wedding morning, I effectively surprised the bride and groom with both dresses. They were mind blowed, flabbergasted to say the least! I put the original one for the official photoshoot and discretely changed right after dinner for the other one. People around that had followed the incredible adventures were laughing out loud and finding it hilarious that I decided to wear both of them as I had so much troubles!
Quite a story with dresses and with an ex, right? Guess what, I’m also the godmother of their first child!

It’s a long story, actually it’s two stories in one, because as it involves the same person over more than decade long, it’s worth telling the whole story all at once (and it makes it may more fun too!). I decided to share it because it’s the kind of story that doesn’t seem to happen very often.
Below you will find goodies about an ex, a wedding, a dress, a delivery company and more! Please simply be mindful English is not my first language, trying my best to entertain you all the same.
This story goes back a long way, when (let’s name him) Frank (M) and myself (F) were both in college (both 17 at the time, we’re now 33), young and naive teenagers. We started as friends and eventually decided to be together. We then decided to move to another city together, as I was about to start university.
It went well for a while and then started to go south. So, long story short, after about two years together, we decided to break up. It wasn’t a mean breakup or anything, I think we were mostly disappointed it didn’t work out. Anyway.
We live in the province of Quebec. For those who don’t know, there is this weird tradition of starting and ending about any lease on July 1st. I have no idea why, but Canada’s Day has always been for anybody moving, in this province, a synonym of sweating under the sun, moving boxes, lifting heavy things and ending the day with cold beer and cheap pizza in a new and probably not so clean apartment. Why this context? Because we broke up two weeks before July 1st. It means it was virtually impossible to find another apartment so close to this date. We were about 7 hours away from both our families living on the countryside. We were also awfully broke students. We decided to give it a chance at being roommates.
Yes, it was super awkward at first, really not easy to manage to say the least. We were walking on eggshells and were definitely on edge for a while. There were also some pretty awkward situations, like this one time he decided to bring a one night home as I was sleeping in the adjacent room. Not only that, but the shameful phone call he had to make, waking me up in the middle of the night, so I could unlock the front door because he had forgotten his keys to find out he had brought home an acquaintance of mine. Nowadays I find this story delightfully funny tbh. But on that night, as I couldn’t go back to sleep because the gal decided to show off how an amazing singer she could have been —because, oh boy, this voice carried loudly all the way to my ears for more than an hour — I did not find it funny. I was furious, but prepared myself for the eventuality it would ever happen again. Do you remember the “Tiny Wall Challenges”? Let’s just say I had some games ideas after that night.
Anyway, anybody would probably have walked away but we still deeply cared for each other. We even did better than just survive through this whole year as roommates, we decided to move into a bigger apartment with two other friends. Believe it or not, we stayed there two more years. Moreover, these years were some of the best years and I still keep lots of good memories from this period.
Fast forward to the second part of the story. After being roommates for years, at some point we parted ways and lived our lives. We maintained contact throughout the years and when Frank finally started dating his wife to be, I was absolutely happy for him. He asked her to marry him and she said yes! Our friendship still held such a high place in both our hearts that he asked me to be one of his groomsmen, with his other best friend and his little brother. I felt so honoured, as I was technically a female, to be chosen to be on his side at the wedding.

Videos of Israeli settlers allegedly hurling boxes of desperately needed supplies on the ground and setting at least one car on fire surfaced on social media, sparking widespread condemnation of the incident. Hey everyone, I’m making this post and comment below just as a factual recount of my journey selling my childhood collection over the past few months, in case it is helpful to anyone now or later. Sorry for the long post - I’m a numbers guy and this kind of stuff is very interesting to me, so I’m recounting it in detail.
My collection was mostly Base Set Pokemon, some shadowless, some random Topps, and a few cards from Expedition and the Neo collections (I stopped collecting roughly right when those cards released). I had a total of 374 cards. Almost all were LP - a few NM, a few MP. None were graded. I took good care of them and always had them in a binder. My “best” card was a damaged shadowless Charizard that a friend gave to me before he threw away his collection when we were, like, 10 years old (I estimated this card’s value at $325).
Thanks to this forum for guiding me to TCGplayer when I found my old stash and looked to sell it. I priced every single card, even the stupid Ratattas and Weedles, based on NM/LP/MP/damaged (because I am very type A/OCD!) using TCGplayer and came to a value of $1,614.63. I would argue there was roughly +/- $150 from that estimate based on condition.
I already have experience selling collectibles and had a good amount of feedback as an eBay seller from auctioning off other items, namely complete Lego sets and vintage Hot Wheels Redlines/Matchbox cars. I didn’t feel like making a new account on TCGplayer, Mercari, or any other retailing site because I am lazy. I didn’t cross-post anything or try FB marketplace. I strictly went with eBay to see what would happen. High value cards were listed individually. Bulk was separated by collection and listed in lots. I listed all cards at auction/OBO within a few dollars of what they were worth. My rule of thumb - 4 weeks of auctions at the price I want it to sell for; after 4 weeks, I cut the price by 25%; after 4 more weeks, I cut the price by another 25%; and after 4 more weeks, I list the item at $0.99+shipping and see what happens. Other people may have better methods or more patience, but I eventually get tired of selling things/seeing the clutter everywhere in the house and want it gone.
Out of 374 cards, I only sold TWO at a price over my initial expectations (thanks Gengar and Blastoise!). 37 sold at asking price. 335 sold below my expectations. I received hundreds of direct messages with radically lowball offers (I set my listings to automatically reject offers that don’t meet an 85% threshold, people still messaged me to ask when their offers were auto-rejected) - my favorite was someone asking if I would sell a shadowless Charizard for $50. I assume they were mostly kids/teenagers, but it was annoying AF. I’ve never experienced that with buyers of other collectibles - usually the price is what it is: set by the market +/- 10% based on the condition/interaction and that’s that. I eventually had to go back and modify all my listings to replace the OBO with Buy It Now to stop the madness. The Charizard sold for $315 plus shipping.
Anyway, total sale cost of everything (including shipping costs) was $1,017.32. The shipping costs/eBay fees accounted for 22.0% of total sale costs, leaving me with $793.42 (49.13% of the expected value) at the end of the day. Granted, I’ll never complain about an extra $793 that I didn’t have before, but a few things:

- I spent approximately 26.5 hours researching, pricing, snapping photos, listing, dealing with buyers, re-listing, modifying listings, and packaging these cards over the course of 16 weeks. This process took longer for me because I was unfamiliar with the market and had to do a lot of research and pricing. You all would probably fare better, but there is inherently a lot of time in managing listings.
- Assuming a price of $4/pack of 11 cards back in 1999, the collection cost me $136 in 1999 US dollars. Inflated to 2024, the cost of the collection is roughly $260, so a profit was made albeit not what was expected.
- Just for fun: $793 (sold price) minus $260 (cost price) = $533 divided by 26.5 hours of work = $20.11/hour. This is below my current working/salary rate.
- Annualized ROI of $136 in 1999 to $793 in 2024 gives a 7.29% annual rate of return. Not bad, but not phenomenal compared to other markets.
- Selling these was grueling. Hundreds of listings were active over several weeks. Collectibles are never “liquid assets” but these were the least liquid asset I’ve ever sold. Usually I do my research, set my prices, and my stuff sells within 2 weeks with haggling on maybe 10% of items. This took 2 months and things really only sold because I dropped them to $0.99 and walked away. I could see this taking years if you were holding out for a certain dollar amount on a particular card.
