2024.05.15 17:26 Lady-Lilith289 AITA for preforming a medical procedure on my little cousin?

So I (20f) went to babysit my cousin Lisa (fake name 13f) over the weekend. Around noon my cousin asked me to look at a pimple on her back. Lisa explained that her mother my aunt wanted her to leave it alone, but over the past week it’s became pain to lean against anything.
I agreed and had her sit at the dining table. When I pulled up her shirt I saw a giant hamster sized pimple on her back. It was so swollen and had a white tip meaning it was ready to pop. Now I’ve suffered with bad acne all my life but this was new even to me. I suggested to take a picture and send it to her mother before doing anything. Lisa agreed but still wanted me yo do something about it.
And I agreed that if her mother didn’t text me back in a few hours then I’ll pop it myself.
Well I sent the picture and texted my aunt explaining that I planned on popping it if she didn’t get back to me by 2.
She did not get back to me.
So I grabbed a box of Alcohol wipes, bandages and q-tips along with a blue diabetic needle the small ones to help test your blood sugar. If you know you know. Anyways I explained what I was gonna do before I leaned Lisa against the dining table and cleaned the area. Before taking the needle and punctured the pimple puss immediately started pouring out. I took a q-tip and whipped up some puss smelling it before leaning in and sniffing the pimple it self. Luckily there was no smell.
I continued squeezing the puss out saying there was a lot would be an understatement. Eventually I stopped after a minute because of Lisa’s begging do to the pain. So I stopped and cleaned her back again before touching the pimple feeling something hard still under her skin. I apologize to Lisa before violating pushing down on her back and removing a hard piece of puss. Blood began to drip from the bigger hole so I cleaned it again before putting on a bandage.
Lisa complained about soreness and took an aleve from the bathroom.
Her mother came home three hours later. She immediately went to check on her daughter but when Lisa explained what happened my aunt lost it.
It turned into a huge argument where my aunt accused me of being immature and stupid for preforming a medical procedure with her permission.
I explained to my aunt that I’ve done it before on my self and that it was safe.
She went on to scream that I was supposed to be the adult in this situation. And Lisa had no idea what she was getting into. I just left arguing with my aunt is like fighting a brick wall.
I talked to my mom about it today and she said I should’ve just apologized. All I wanted to do was help Lisa if I ignored her I felt that would translate to me not caring. Now I wanna know if I’m the asshole for helping Lisa?

Just now, I saw a blue square icon in my browser. It looks like it's designed to stop ads. Has anyone else used this adblock in blue squares? I like the idea of browsing the web without annoying ads, but I'm interested in how well it works. Have you used it? If so, could you tell me what you think and if you think it's worth it?

2024.05.15 17:19 No-Present-3865 Why do I never get approached/ attention at all?

I’ve been consistently told I’m physically attractive my whole life, and almost everyone I’ve ever met has said they really like my personality. For fear of sounding self-obsessed I’ll leave it at that. And yet, I am never ever approached. When I look what I think is my best, I’ll get my friends calling me gorgeous and that’s it. Eventually it became an insecurity - I thought I was being lied to about how good I looked/ how nice or funny I am. Just to clarify, I am a 5’7, slim, brown haired blue eyed white girl with long lashes living in a town where I should be fitting the beauty standard. Any ideas as to why I’m going to be single forever?

2024.05.15 17:18 violette_vendetta Don't let these bastards ruin your life

(Posting on mobile, sorry for formatting in advance) That's what I've been telling myself at least. I currently have an infestation going on in my apartment due to birds nesting in the vent. I had no idea this was even a thing until it happened! I wanted to put my story out in the ether and spread some hope, possibly. They are going away, but slowly.
It all started when I saw tiny bugs crawling out of my phone. It was so weird. After a deep dive on the internet, I started seeing more pop up in my bathroom. I realized that this started happening after some birds left their nest in the vent. They were going crazy one night and then left the next day. This is when all hell broke loose and I was living in one of my own worst nightmares.
The first day of discovery, my spouse and I picked up some food grade Diatamaceous Earth, spread that shit on the bedroom carpet and master bath, and slept in the living room for 2 nights. I've never been more grateful for laundry that I procrastinated on because that was our saving grace to have clothes.
What I've learned they hated: Essential oils (esp peppermint, lavender, and clove) Lack of humidity, DE, and dish soap.
When we vaccumed the bedroom and bathroom, we made sure to spray the perimeters with Ortho Home Defense. Of course, we also steamed the mattress, changed bedding, all that. We've been spraying our bedding with a mixture of cheap vodka, clove oil, peppermint, and some water just to keep them away.
Within the week, we started seeing successful results. In the meantime, I vacuumed and sprayed Ortho around the rest of the apartment, which afaik, was not affected. That doesn't mean the anxiety goes away and there some that occasionally pop up in the bathroom.
We forgot to treat one room in our apartment and that happened to be the closet where they wreaked absolute havoc and partied in there. We thought that would have been a safe place because there are no vents there. After 20 minutes of trying to investigate the madness, we threw some more DE in there, sprayed Ortho in the parameters we could and closed the door. Girl, bye.
We did contact our apartment complex upon first discovery. Maintenance did remove the nests, but didn't find bugs. Our apartment complex allegedly never heard of this issue in the last 15 years the complex had been around. The pest control they hired was clueless about how to help us, also never heard of this issue, and said he would "look into it" and have an answer in a week, because he only comes out on Mondays.
I called Orkin the same day and waiting on a call back for an inspection and estimate. This has been a week so far and it's driven me to the point of needing anxiety meds. I break down every damn day. We have come a long way though.
My spouse has been my absolute backbone and cannot thank her enough. She tells me to remind myself of what we've done so far and to look at the evidence. The evidence is that they are dying and are going away. I ask yourself to do the same thing if you find yourself in this situation as well. Be diligent and do what you can.
The takeaway from all this: It can and will get better. It's vital to treat the root causes first. These little fucks will multiply somehow, even without bird blood, which is so wild because it's contrary to what I've read. We haven't had any really bite us or our pets, thankfully.
Also, more life lessons: Declutter where you can, properly store your clothes in bins, and get rid of the damn cardboard boxes. I swear you don't need them. Also, dehumidify your space if you live somewhere hot and icky like I do. Good luck out there.

2024.05.15 17:13 slowdown1214 Mental Health Resources ~ Reciprocity

Mental Health Resources ~ Reciprocity
When I created this sub, my mind was bouncing around in a lot of places and needed somewhere to land. There's more to it, but that was the stimulus. I needed to find a way to support my mental health.
Blue October has been a support system and life line for me since I came tumbling out of an abusive cult religion as a young adult <18>.
I know some of y'all make jokes about Blue October being a cult and I assure you, y'all have no fucking idea what the fuck you are talking about and it is so repulsive that you use that language with such flippant exchange. It is insulting to those of us who have survived ACTUAL cult experiences.
Not up for discussion. That's a vulnerability that has expired.
I digress.
I always seem to find myself as the outsider of outsiders. If Black sheep 🐑 was a person, that person would befriend me. So I'm not just a black sheep, I feel like a black goat. 🐐 Close, but not quite. Cause even black sheep seem to go back to the flock.
I can't tell you how many people have made fun of my love for the band, or called me or the band names over the years. Just being a woman in the early 2000's in the clubs, people automatically talked shit. After slamming you into a wall or stepping all over you. All my exs would also, and I just told them to stfu and listen. And they did, until they are no longer around. Blue October, still though.
The last interaction was a few months ago, a man commented on my sticker and I knew he was going to mention Metallica as one of his favorites after asking "so you like Blue October?" What tipped you off? The sticker or my jacket? Lmao.
So to honor that idea 💡 which opened this sub and to honor Blue October 💙 I wanted to start the support side and resources that were originally planned.
Soooo.....within the life long journey that is this brain and body.... I tend to educate myself. I find the more I understand and can feel the places in my body that need attention, the more I am able to examine my behaviors and their potential impact on my path.
The body always speaks first and if I listen, I can unpack the experience in a more fulfilling way, even the chaotic times. especially the chaotic times. ⏳️
In moments, not having the language has brought me to a place where I have felt isolated, as if I'm the only one experiencing the "feeling" or "impact".
Then something will inevitably cross my path that is the information I was searching for and ultimately helps nudge the last few puzzle pieces to click. Allowing my brain 🧠 to uncover the answer.
This particular idea of Reciprocity within my relationships helped me to attune my interactions to support my day and daily functions.
A small example would be store employees at H.E.B. (Texas grocery store). To me, even in these seemingly small moments, I have the power to control my experience.
I find my favorite stockers to ask questions .
I will choose a register that has a cashier or bagger I have spoke with and enjoyed it, and especially those who handle my groceries with care
A little bonus has also been becoming a few of the employees favorite person to chat with. I know about their day or animals or kids. Have shared recipes and target sale finds. It was a super sweet unexpected blessing and it means to much to me and now, to them. I know two men that work there and we always notice each others hair. The women they date style them and I love how much they appreciate it. Makes me cry.
Always putting each interaction in my life under this small idea of exchange, brought a big impact.
I find the best way to integrate new information is to put it into practical terms within my daily experience. Then allow it to become a habit that I can migrate to those more difficult places or relationships.
I attached a few images with more information. I did not create the slides and do not know the source. I saw someone share them at one point, but didn't follow the link.
I hope this information finds you well and that it touches a place within that needed some balm.
May your day be beautiful as possible.
This is not a post to talk crap on, you can down vote me for still supporting and loving Blue October.
I will remove anything that is not in alignment with the intention and goal.
Mental Health is important and no one is going to be silenced by implementing odd morality claims and clauses in this sub.
~ Merci 🖤🐦‍⬛

2024.05.15 17:12 presumedinnocense Two pieces of critical evidence in triple murder trial are sketch as he!! 30 year vet imprisoned on a life sentence - how did this even happen? Our justice system is truly broken. #freekitmartin

Imagine if you will that you have been accused of a triple murder. Sentenced to a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Twelve jurors in Kentucky found the evidence convincing enough to convict Christian "Kit" Martin for the murders of his neighbors Calvin Phillips, Pam Phillips and Ed Dansereau.
His defense is that he was framed by a vindictive wife (Adele "Joan" Harman) that threatened to ruin him if he divorced her. The jurors got to hear very little about the backstory, a pattern of wild lies and deceptions and accusations against prior men in her lives when things didn't go her way, all discovered by private investigators.
This was a heavy circumstantial case. Joan and her son were allowed to plead the 5th and that fact was not disclosed to the jurors. Out of more than 100 DNA samples tested not one belonged to Kit. There were two key pieces of evidence that convinced these jurors beyond a reasonable doubt the Kit Martin was guilty. Kit claims those two pieces of evidence were planted so lets take a closer look:
First we have the dogtag. I mean, Kit must have done it because he left his dogtag right? There are four critical problems with this evidence:
  1. The name on the dogtag read "Martin, Kit" so this dogtag is not military issue. The military only issues tags with the full name (not nicknames) which would have been printed instead "Martin, Christian." Fake souvenir tags can be purchased online (an even in kiosks in some locations) to read what you input on your order. I know a lot of military people and know exactly zero that wear their tags outside of work. But let's say for arguments sake that the souvenir tag really was Kit's. The murders were planned in "precise military fashion" according to the prosecution, yet Kit chooses to put on a souvenir tag with his name on it that morning? I find that very hard to believe.
  2. This souvenir tag was tested for fingerprints and DNA and they found none. The prosecution argued that while Kit was cleaning up the blood from the carpet in the foyer, the tag must have kept getting in his way so he took it off and set it up on a shelf. That seems really far-fetched.
  3. The tag was on a string and not a break-a-way chain which was also tested for DNA evidence and there was "some DNA evidence" but apparently not enough to make a comparison to Kit's. This seems really off to me. If someone had just committed three murders, I would imagine they would have sweat a bit leaving behind DNA. Yet interestingly there is no DNA evidence on the tag or string matching Kit.
  4. Besides the most ridiculous idea that a murderer would even put that tag on before going to commit these murders, he had the forethought to wipe it down real good when removing it when it was in his way (to remove any fingerprints and DNA). Instead of putting it in his pocket, he places it on a shelf and then he forgets to take it when he leaves? Wow, really?
So the second major piece of evidence in this murder case was a spent 45 casing that matched the Glock found in Kit's safe. Here again there are a few problems with this evidence:
  1. Kit was portrayed by the prosecution as a highly trained ranger who skillfully planned out these murders (or at least Calvin and Pam's as Ed was an unexpected variable). But then afterwards he walked across the street and placed the murder weapon in his safe instead of ditching it? That's not too bright.
  2. The 45 casing was found by family members when cleaning the porch area FIVE months AFTER the murders. This was despite the porch area being processed THREE separate times; once by Christian County Sheriffs Department, once when Detective Scott Smith went to spray the scene with Blue Star (Luminol), and lastly when Crime Scene Investigators came in to try to determine where on the property the shootings took place.
  3. The bullets found in Cal's body were not conclusively linked to Kit's Glock in his safe. But the 45 casing found by family members WAS positively identified as being fired from Kit's Glock.
  4. Kit testified that when he first moved to the area he hung out with Cal some and did target shooting in Cal's backyard. There is no doubt that Kit was a gun enthusiast, but that does not make a person a murderer. He had spent casings in his backyard, Cal's backyard and in his truck bed. So it would be easy for someone to collect one of Kit's spent casings and plant it on the porch through the latticework.
So there you have it - so much reasonable doubt, zero DNA evidence yet Kit sits in prison with a life sentence. I want justice for the murders of Cal, Pam and Ed as much as anyone but I want the true killes behind bars. The entire case was aired on Court TV but a great book outlining this complicated triple murder along with much of the backstory was just released: https://www.amazon.com/WILL-RUIN-YOU-Twisted-Behind/dp/1960332651/ref=sr_1_1?crid=16F4EJ1ADIAFW&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.0Uv31xRkigJgf0YtFU_hoTDA5NKrUkmCjLdhWuYJt7PGjHj071QN20LucGBJIEps.JPhlG_WJosxW0v7nGrsHoDXG_IlDGM6632INYnJiFwA&dib_tag=se&keywords=emilio+corsetti&qid=1715785721&sprefix=emilio+corsetti%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-1
A good reference for this case is the Dateline episode "The Evil That Watches." https://www.nbc.com/dateline/video/the-evil-that-watches/9000190878
Another good shorter synopsis (though a HUGE mistake is minute 4:25 where he states the phone found in the driveway was determined to be Pam's. It was Ed's phone found in the driveway. Joan was actually the one that took Pam's phone into the ATT store about a month after the murders saying she found it and wanted to get it unlocked (that's a whole crazy part of evidence that also convinces me that Kit is innocent - #joanhadthephone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WbFF7SyeSg

2024.05.15 17:11 mrobo_5ht2a Lessons learned from building cheap GPU servers for JsonLLM

Hey everyone, I'd like to share a few things that I learned while trying to build cheap GPU servers for document extraction, to save your time in case some of you fall into similar issues.
What is the goal? The goal is to build low-cost GPU server and host them in a collocation data center. Bonus point for reducing the electricity bill, as it is the only real meaning expense per month once the server is built. While the applications may be very different, I am working on document extraction and structured responses. You can read more about it here: https://jsonllm.com/
What is the budget? At the time of starting, budget is around 30k$. I am trying to get most value out of this budget.
What data center space can we use? The space in data centers is measured in rack units. I am renting 10 rack units (10U) for 100 euros per month.
What motherboards/servers can we use? We are looking for the cheapest possible used GPU servers that can connect to modern GPUs. I experimented with ASUS server, such as the ESC8000 G3 (~1000$ used) and ESC8000 G4 (~5000$ used). Both support 8 dual-slot GPUs. ESC8000 G3 takes up 3U in the data center, while the ESC8000 G4 takes up 4U in the data center.
What GPU models should we use? Since the biggest bottleneck for running local LLMs is the VRAM (GPU memory), we should aim for the least expensive GPUs with the most amount of VRAM. New data-center GPUs like H100, A100 are out of the question because of the very high cost. Out of the gaming GPUs, the 3090 and the 4090 series have the most amount of VRAM (24GB), with 4090 being significantly faster, but also much more expensive. In terms of power usage, 3090 uses up to 350W, while 4090 uses up to 450W. Also, one big downside of the 4090 is that it is a triple-slot card. This is a problem, because we will be able to fit only 4 4090s on either of the ESC8000 servers, which limits our total VRAM memory to 4 * 24 = 96GB of memory. For this reason, I decided to go with the 3090. While most 3090 models are also triple slot, smaller 3090s also exist, such as the 3090 Gigabyte Turbo. I bought 8 for 6000$ a few months ago, although now they cost over 1000$ a piece. I also got a few Nvidia T4s for about 600$ a piece. Although they have only 16GB of VRAM, they draw only 70W (!), and do not even require a power connector, but directly draw power from the motherboard.
Building the ESC8000 g3 server - while the g3 server is very cheap, it is also very old and has a very unorthodox power connector cable. Connecting the 3090 leads to the server unable being unable to boot. After long hours of trying different stuff out, I figured out that it is probably the red power connectors, which are provided with the server. After reading its manual, I see that I need to get a specific type of connector to handle GPUs which use more than 250W. After founding that type of connector, it still didn't work. In the end I gave up trying to make the g3 server work with the 3090. The Nvidia T4 worked out of the box, though - and I happily put 8 of the GPUs in the g3, totalling 128GB of VRAM, taking up 3U of datacenter space and using up less than 1kW of power for this server.
Building the ESC8000 g4 server - being newer, connecting the 3090s to the g4 server was easy, and here we have 192GB of VRAM in total, taking up 4U of datacenter space and using up nearly 3kW of power for this server.
To summarize:
Server VRAM GPU power Space
ESC8000 g3 128GB 560W 3U
ESC8000 g4 192GB 2800W 4U
Based on these experiences, I think the T4 is underrated, because of the low eletricity bills and ease of connection even to old servers.
I also create a small library that uses socket rpc to distribute models over multiple hosts, so to run bigger models, I can combine multiple servers.
In the table below, I estimate the minimum data center space required, one-time purchase price, and the power required to run a model of the given size using this approach. Below, I assume 3090 Gigabyte Turbo as costing 1500$, and the T4 as costing 1000$, as those seem to be prices right now. VRAM is roughly the memory required to run the full model.
Model Server VRAM Space Price Power
70B g4 150GB 4U 18k$ 2.8kW
70B g3 150GB 6U 20k$ 1.1kW
400B g4 820GB 20U 90k$ 14kW
400B g3 820GB 21U 70k$ 3.9kW
Interesting that the g3 + T4 build may actually turn out to be cheaper than the g4 + 3090 for the 400B model! Also, the bills for running it will be significantly smaller, because of the much smaller power usage. It will probably be one idea slower though, because it will require 7 servers as compared to 5, which will introduce a small overhead.
After building the servers, I created a small UI that allows me to create a very simple schema and restrict the output of the model to only return things contained in the document (or options provided by the user). Even a small model like Llama3 8B does shockingly well on parsing invoices for example, and it's also so much faster than GPT-4. You can try it out here: https://jsonllm.com/share/invoice
It is also pretty good for creating very small classifiers, which will be used high-volume. For example, creating a classifier if pets are allowed: https://jsonllm.com/share/pets . Notice how in the listing that said "No furry friends" (lozenets.txt) it deduced "pets_allowed": "No", while in the one which said "You can come with your dog, too!" it figured out that "pets_allowed": "Yes".
I am in the process of adding API access, so if you want to keep following the project, make sure to sign up on the website.

2024.05.15 17:07 gnassar Puppy breathing staggered - potential intestinal blockage?

Hello there,
There is some backstory to this that I couldn't figure out how to include in the title, please bear with me:
About 4 days ago we realized Watson was breathing very rapidly at rest. We live in a very cold place, it had just started warming up, and his coat is the longest it's ever been, so we assumed that he was just too hot (23-26 Celsius in some rooms of the house) and booked an appointment with the groomer to get him a trim.
He was still eating and drinking normally, urinating normally, gums were pink, I think he might have been having less bowel movements but I'm unsure because we brought him over to my girlfriend's parents for the better part of the two days after noticing this (and he roams their large backyard with their two dogs), so he might have had many or 0 bowel movements over there, I also felt his stomach and it felt normal. His behavior this whole time was mostly normal (maybe a little bit subdued, but I assumed it was because he was tired from hanging out with his uncles so much). For the sake of the timeline, this is all that happened the first 2 of 4 days (day 4 being today).
Yesterday around 5am he woke us up because he was trying to throw up. He heaved a few times, and nothing ended up coming up other than white foam. He seemed to recover quickly from this, and we went back to bed. I told my girlfriend that if he was still exhibiting any weird symptoms in the morning I would take him to the vet.
Woke up later that morning, and he seemed back to normal. His breathing had slowed down to a normal rate, he ate his breakfast, I took him on a walk in the morning and he was behaving totally normal. He also passed a "good" stool (firm, solid normal color) on our walk. We got home and I went to pick up old his stools from our yard (routine after a walk) when I noticed an unusual one (that had to have been within the last 24h, exactly when I'm not sure as we let him out often while we are getting ready for work/bed/otherwise unable to watch him).
The stool I found had a bunch of tape coiled up inside of it, which I remembered had been a loose strand of tape that was sitting on my desk that he must have pulled off and eaten (uncoiled, the kind of tape where you have to peel the bottom off to expose the sticky side). We hadn't had an issue with him eating things that aren't food in a long time so I let my guard down.
It all started making sense, I thought that he must have been in pain/discomfort from eating the tape which explained the heavy breathing for the couple of days until he passed it in his stool. Since he was mostly back to normal I thought nothing of it.
Starting last night and continuing to this morning I noticed that his breathing, although much slower and normal rate-wise, has changed to be a much deeper, staggered breathing. I don't know how to describe this other than staggered, maybe staged? He will inhale about 60% of the breath initially, then 30% more, then the last 10%. His mouth is closed while he's doing this (sleeping/resting the times that I have noticed it). Google has been woefully unhelpful in looking this up (probably because I have no idea what the kind of breathing is actually called)).
At this point I'm concerned that there is still some tape stuck in his guts somewhere. The piece that he ate was quite long, and I didn't extract/unravel it from inside his stool to see how much of it had come out there, but nor could I find any remnants of un-eaten tape anywhere. Is this kind of seemingly labored breathing characteristic of a blockage, and should I be concerned?
I'm hesitant to go to the vet right away because
A. I've taken Watson there probably 10 times for minor issues, every time I have they do the exact same checks that I mentioned above (feel his stomach, check gums, behaviour, eating and bowel regularity) and then send us off almost with an air of like "you guys need to relax he will be fine"
B. With the above in mind, it isn't exactly cheap
Reasons I think he does not have a blockage: -His most recent stool was a good one -His eating habits are the same -His behavior is normal
Reasons I think he might still have a blockage: -His breathing?? Not sure if this is indicative of anything because as I mentioned, google no help this -The timeline of his dry-heaving in the morning doesn't add up for me. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty positive that the stool with the tape in it happened the night before the dry-heaving, so why would he dry-heave if the blockage had already been excreted. He has not tried to throw up, or anything similar since. -He has always coughed more than your average dog (he loves eating quickly and then chasing that down with big gulps of water), but he has been coughing a bit "deeper" this last day or so? This could be me worrying, but thought I would mention
Looking for advice on what to do, and if these symptoms are indicative of anything or if I'm just being my normal hypochondriac self :/
Thank you for your time.

Thank you u/jemst0ne Amanda absolutely loves the post card, she's drawn to it immediately, and your card prompted a story. So, fun fact both of us proposed to each other to let each other know we were ready to be serious and jump into husband and wife roles, well the night that Amanda decided she wanted to make her jump, she received a fortunate cookie following a really nice meal at the casino, and the fortunate cookie said "Don't panic," lol, and nobody but her knew that that was. Second fun fact, mine that night said something about, "Don't miss the opportunity of the day, tomorrow it will be lost."
Thank you u/snerdboff We will definitely take funny pictures and thank you for the marriage licenses multiple copies, either of us thought of that, that's a great idea. Love that you had the largest card/envelope package. Love the sticker of the house as the envelope closer.
Thank you u/danigeek That's a great idea about the consignment store for the dresses. So far she has gone with her mom and sister to look at dresses. So far our idea for the colors of our wedding will be purple, blue, and silver. We have yet to try any cakes for the wedding, but my favorite is polish honey cake and her favorite is black forest (which no bakery seems to make anymore). Daisies are Amanda's favorite flower. Great card. Thank you.
Thank you, u/littlemermaidxx Thank you for the Love post card, it's nice, Amanda loves it, will take a pin to the love corner that we've got going. Thank you for the Congrats!
Thank you u/blacksmithequivalent You sent two cards :). Thank you so much. San Diego is such a beautiful area. We love that there is rarely a day below 60 degrees. The ring card is so pretty. Since she calls me her galaxy, I decided that blue sandstone would be a great pick for both her engagement and wedding ring. The actual stone looks like stars in a dark night sky. We also appreciate you saying that as long as we are happy together, no other opinions matter. True relationships are based on trust, great communication, and respect.
Thank you u/ez330 Absolutely beautiful card with the hearts as leaves in the tree. Congrats on your upcoming 12 year anniversary with your husband. I am sorry that you had those stressors during your wedding day. At this point, I feel that my fiancee and I are the least worried about things right now. That may not be a good thing when the time gets closer haha. Either way, as long as we are together and nothing drastic happens it'll be a great day for us as well. I am also a project manager so nothing can be as bad as some of the violent days at work lol.
Thank you, u/uknighinthesky Love the card. We are both very thankful to have several family members that are doing so much research for us and planning parts of the wedding. I think one of our main concerns is getting some family members from out of town to the wedding. The comic snips were very funny and a great touch to the card.
Thank you, u/uaepeyc. I absolutely adore this card. My mom is huge into mermaids and when I showed her this card, she went cray cray. You gave great advice saying that family research is helpful, but that in the end it is our day. Through all the planning, I think that our day will be as amazing as our relationship. She says that our relationship will be made with great memories for the next 55 years.
Thank you, u/ninajyang. The front of the card is so pretty. I wish you and your partner the best. We both have a similar budget in mind. We don't want to spend too much, but just enough to make things as memorable as possible. This will be both of our first and last marriages so we figure we would splurge just a little. Thank you for the cute stamps as well.
Thank you, u/mediocre_radish_7216 Thank you so much for the cute cared. I liked the skateboard with the word love on it. Since she has moved in, we have been enjoying every little moment together. Even domesticated, simple ones can be enjoyable together. As we are writing these, we are doing household chores. Last night we cooked dinner and had a glass of wine together. We both plan to flourish this relationship for the next 55 years.
Thank you, u/notsomini. Not going into debt for a single day is a great piece of advice. Thank you. We have been looking at wedding venues and seeing which one is the most cost effective, but yet flexible. A few places that we have looked at have been so strict with what is allowed in and what is not. One place that we checked out, no outside food was permitted. This place that we plan to check out tomorrow is not strict as we can bring in whatever food and other accommodations we choose. Thank you so much for the awesome stickers too.
Thank you, u/inkyfingerspgs Thank you so much for the card. Amanda loved it as the purple that was on the card is one of our wedding colors. We plan to continue making good memories from the wedding day and 55 years into the future.
Thank you, u/daeneryswon. The card is adorable. We both love it. The quote, "to a love that grows more beautiful every year," should be a goal for all couples. We hope that on our wedding day there is not too many hiccups, but both of us are pretty easy going that we will just continue on. We plan to make each other happy for the next 55 years.
Thank you so much u/keqani. All of the details that you put into your card is appreciated. Amanda adored the snips of paper that you included with your card. She said that those will be amazing to write little love notes to me to leave in my truck for me to discover. We both concur with you that we need to be there for each other no matter what. Loyalty in a relationship is very important. So far we have had great communication. Before we moved in together, we talked multiple times a day for at least 20 minutes or longer. We also promised each other that if anything is bothering either of us that we should just talk it out rather than holding it in. Amanda says that for the next 55 years we will be together through all the ups and downs that life can bring.

2024.05.15 16:50 matthewleehess_ How to detect tuning?

Picked up a 2019 TRD Pro a while back.
Had plenty of tasteful mods, was definitely an enthusiast owner who didn’t cheap out on anything.
Under the hood, all that I really see is an Injen cold air intake. But seeing that, combined with other mods, makes me wonder if it’s been tuned.
I’ve seen countless posts about sluggish transmissions, but mine shifts like a sports car, absolutely zero complaints. It’s got a solid launch off the line, performs very well in all regards. Which makes me think it’s not a stock tune.
Specifically concerned about this, because I’ve been using regular gas, and have no idea if it has a 93 tune.
Is there any way to confirm this?

2024.05.15 16:50 shitty-web What age should a child have access to the internet?

I saw a post the other day that said something along the lines of; "You are not giving your child access to the world, you are giving the world access to your child." Along with it was an image of a little bastard scrolling on a smart phone. Even though the post or the words didn't really resonate with me, it did incept the idea into my consistently firing brain of mine. When should humans, as a society, collectively introduce the internet to our offspring? And at what age is considered responsible enough for the crazy shit they are about to have access to??
Before any of you decide to start commenting or putting your two cents into this issue, let me give you the run down of how it's going so far.
I was with a girl for almost two years and she had a small child. She would let her child watch cartoons on her iPhone while she did some chores around the house. I watched this small little baby, barely two years old with his little finger, skip a YouTube video in order to get back to his cartoons. That fucked me up. This kid couldn't form a sentence but could recognize that something was delaying his interaction with a show, on a screen and how to actionably use your body to make your show come back on. This to me, is too far.
I completely understand as parents, especially a single one, you have to constantly find creative ways to keep your child entertained. You can't always engage with your child and any parent needs some relief. It's so much more convenient to hand over the iPad or Galaxy phone and let them go to town. It keeps them engaged for hours, they seem to be having fun and you can move on with your day.
I am an all around digital marketing professional. I understand how just about everything works when it comes to anything online. Would I personally intentionally give a small child a smart device to play around on? FUCK NO! It's already a FACT that most games and apps aimed at children are just straight dopamine creating factories to get a child addicted to the interaction so that EVENTUALLY they will ask the parent or guardian if they can spend REAL MONEY on this in order to elevate their online experience! I'm talking only mobile games and apps, not console games, those are basically harmless.
Or the twelve year old girls that get an Instagram account and strive to be an influencer because they think it's job security for the future?? Yes, that really happens! A child can easily get on to any social media account without anyone knowing or lying about their age to get access, all because they have had a smart device since they were little and know how to use it efficiently. I look at smart devices as ADULT devices. I've never looked at smart phones as any kind of child entertaining device. The blue light that radiates off the screen alone is extremely harmful to developing eyes.
I don't want to stray away from my point too much. Giving any small human a smart device at a young age exposes them to so much information, plenty of ad targeting and algorithms to keep them engaged which may shift their personality permanently. Along side with mental illnesses that arises from long term interaction with social media apps and bullying online.
I know we will never be able to completely shield children from the harsh realities of the world. There are too many access points to unlimited amounts of information. Hell, I was looking at rotten dot com when I was like, twelve. Kids will always find a way to get what they want, especially if they want it bad enough. A desktop computer and a laptop are more different than a smart phone. At least then you have some control over what a child can do and restrict some stuff online. With a smart phone or devices, I feel that even if you try to restrict access to it and certain apps, it doesn't work. I've tried putting a device on child mode, the child freaks the fuck out because they no longer can just download apps at will! It's too handy and too convenient. It's too easy to conceal and hide, yet, it is the most powerful thing that humans have ever had just sitting in their pockets.
You can drink when you are 21, you can legally drive at 16, enlist in the army at 18 so at what age or time in life, do you think a human being, is capable of responsibly and morally able to handle the complete and complex access to the world and all of it's fuckery? In hopes, to drown out the illnesses and disfunctions that have surfaced over the past twenty years of early and long term smart phone users? Because this shit right here, in the present, is not working out anymore.

2024.05.15 16:48 Lux_Mortis2 Angeline

I was wondering if anyone had anymore information about Angeline! I am autistic and I am hyper fixating on this made up character but I really love the idea of her and I just want to write fan fiction for what I think the books could be about! I also marked this as a spoiler incase someone new hasn’t seen the episode yet!!! I know it’s minor spoilers cause it’s focused on a made up fictional character, but better to be safe than sorry!
I know in episode six we get these little bits of information
Angeline is a light blue demon with blue hair, red eyes and red horns. She wears a lavender dress with black boots and black gloves as well as a pink heart choker.
Angeline doesn’t have parents but there is a popular fan theory that Hadeus, the genderqueer demon emperor is one of her illegitimate parents, but Hadeus is out to kill Angeline.
At the end of the last published book (which leads me to believe this at least has to be book 2 or 3 and the release is for book 3/4) that Angeline sacrifices herself when Ben asks Sasha how she felt about it.
Then at the start of the new book Angeline of the Underworld: Vengeance is Joy, Chapter one we get: Angeline stares into the yawning abyss. The world remains intact, but her heart is broken into pieces. It seemed that mere moments ago that Elektra stood by her side and now she belongs to the darkness.
Who is Elektra??? Is it the humanoid character with dark blue hair, small shades, a red sun hat with a red business suit and matching red coat and black gloves? Is Elektra Angeline’s lover or best friend? Angeline sacrifices herself to save the world literally or metaphorically???(most likely the former) Is the darkness the underworld or some other physical plane????
Also the vibes the book gives me is that Angeline is possibly a mystery thriller fantasy/scifi novel that is most likely a young adult series due to the book signing fans all looking around the age of 16-18
If you have any information please share! Or if anyone would like the theorize anything with me that would be awesome!!!! Thank you!!

2024.05.15 16:47 IntrepridBrit [TOMT] Childhood Book (novel)

Looking for the title of a children's non-picture book my partner read as a child, cover was hazy blue-ish colour, possibly a wide/far away image of a castle grounds/gardens and people. The only thing remembered about the plot is it starts off with a girl, maybe a princess and she's in the gardens playing with a ball in a cup/ball on a string. The cup and ball toy is the most prominent memory. The author was thought to be Mary Norton but after Googling it doesn't seem to be her. Maybe an author with a similar name? For time context, this was about 30 years ago and the book's age group was probably about 7-10 years old. The book was about 1.5cm thick. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

2024.05.15 16:46 omedadog Which degree makes most sense for me to do?

I have a mechanical engineering degree and its practically impossible to get a controls job with this degree where I am so I'm considering doing a masters. This is specific to the EU as I know that in the US you can get into controls with whatever degree, but thats sadly not the case here, they want specifically EE or CS grads.
The degrees I'm eligible for are:
1) MSc Automation (in Italy). This course focuses heavily on control theory and doesn't really teach anything practical, but I've talked to people who have done this course and tell me its pretty easy to find work in Italy with this degree so its a decent choice. Its quite cheap too so the only thing I lose is some time.
2) MSc Mechatronics (in Germany/Italy). This course seems decent as I can choose to focus on a specific area, so I might focus on the electrical/programming side of things. The problem is that I'm not so sure if this degree will make up for the fact that I don't have an EE background, but the people who have done this degree that I've spoken too told me theres tons of work for mechatronics grads. Again this degree will cost me almost nothing so no problems there.
What do you guys think, would either of these options make up for the fact that I don't have an EE/CS background? Honestly I'm thinking its not too bad of an idea to go back for a BSc. EE since I get access to not only these jobs but also a ton of in demand stuff like power or RF or whatever.

2024.05.15 16:44 SonicCody12 Spike the Jumper: Advice, A Great Catch, and Heading back to the mainland

Spike couldn't believe it he is meeting a region champion! "Now then about your Pokemon" Cynthia began. Spike then shook his awestruck state and paid attention "Now based on how many badges you have you are clearly underprepared to handle team plasma or to help me" Cynthia Cynthia then pointed to the water "First of all you should catch some water type Pokémon to help diversify your team a bit...so here" Cynthia handed Spike a fishing rod. "Use that to fish up some Pokémon from the water"
"Thanks" Spike took the rod and inspected
"Next. You should try to evolve more of your Pokémon." Spike blushed at this he was told by others that he should have more evolved Pokémon. Cynthia then looked in the distance "I better get going." Cynthia then left Spike to his thoughts. He turned to the ocean
"Fishing wasn't something that I would have considered when it comes to catching powerful Pokémonbut hey I am willing to try new things." Spike then cast the line into the water few moments later he got a bite. Reeling it in Spike saw what he had caught. A Strange blue snake with wings on the side of its head#Learnset) "What are you?" Spike took out his dex to see what he is dealing with
"Dratini the Dragon Pokémon. Dratini continually molts and sloughs off its old skin. It does so because the life energy within its body steadily builds to reach uncontrollable levels." The Dex informed
"Huh...Well I have room for two more so welcome aboard little guy" Spike threw a net ball to catch the water snake dragon pokemon. It didn't seem to resist Spike smiled with what he caught.
"HEY BOSS CHECK IT OUT!" Buddy yelled getting his trainer's attention. Spike looked at Buddy who was pointing at a small yellow rat pokemon
"I have seen a Pikachu Buddy...what's so special about this one?"
"He's like me!" Spike eye's buldged at this "Yeah. A Partner Pokemon!" Spike smirked And tossed a luxury ball...while it did in fact caught the Pikachu...It immediately got out of it's ball.
"DON'T JUST DO THAT!" The Pikachu yelled.
"Sorry Sorry. Listen Storm-" Spike began "Bolt. my name is Bolt." Bolt interrupted
"Huh came with his own chosen name. Anyways Bolt you know how these things work."
"Yes I do but I am only getting in the ball when I have to." Bolt nodded and said in understanding
"Why did I encountered another Partner Pokemon?" Spike then shrugged "Well Another Dragon Type is always welcome. Besides I have a ground type already"
"Yeah, though it would be a good idea to use water." Buddy stated "Looks like David finally get a turn."
"Right back to Town and prepare to head to Route 112" As the group head back to Dewford Town. Twilight spoke up
"Pause." The play back paused "So What about Rayquaza?" Buddy nodded at this question
"We couldn't really do anything about him yet seeing that we were too weak at the moment and luckily the Cynthia and the Champion of the Honen region, were keeping Plasma busy." Buddy answered. "And lucky for us the play back isn't going to show you the training moment we have that would get repetitive. The playback will skip to us in Lavaridge Town. Where we faced Flannery, and Pee Wee evolved into Blaziken"

2024.05.15 16:44 Massive_Section290 [Discussion] Collecting midrange watches VS saving up for the watch you actually want

I've been into watches since I was about 16. Coming from a lower middle class background, I went to a private high school where a lot of the kids around me had Rolexes, Panerais etc. from their parents. Naturally started building a little collection of my own, full of little super cheap watches such as Vostoks, Seikos, even saved up to buy a Steinhart!
Ten years later, I still like watches a lot. Now finding myself in a position where I am making decent money, have a career etc. and could probably buy a nice piece in the $10k range in 2-3 years, without causing any major financial risk to myself. But 2-3 years can also feel like a hell of a long time to be waiting for something you strongly desire.
I think a lot of people find themselves in this situation. Could buy a really nice piece if they stayed disciplined for a few years, but have-to-stay-disciplined. But what a ton of guys end up doing when faced with this, is to start buying mid range stuff. Midos, CWs, Longines, Seikos etc. you name it. On here, I see a lot photos of collection where someone collected 5-10 pieces in the $200-2000 range. This turns into a spiral that goes on forever, and they might never end up with that one truly nice piece they've always wanted.
I'm not here to say that buying midrange stuff is irrational or that it doesn't make sense. Nothing about collecting watches makes sense. Nobody needs a watch in 2024. But I would love to hear from people who've been in this situation. If you went on a midrange buying spree, and never ended up getting that Omega or Rolex you actually wanted, how do you reflect on that experience? Would you do the same thing again, given the choice? And if you are one of the few who actually managed to stay disciplined and then finally got that huge payoff after years of grinding, how did you deal with the years in-between where you couldn't have what you wanted? Tough place to be as well.
Personally, I once again find myself strongly desiring to purchase a watch. I can't buy the one watch I truly love (Rolex Datejust, fluted, mint green) without compromising the rest of my financial plans. For that reason, I find myself looking for something in the sub $1k range that I can "wear for now". I really like the ice blue Tissot Powermatic 80 for this. But I also know that I shouldn't do it, stay disciplined, and just wait for my Rolex. It's a damn tough spot to be in.
Would love to hear from all of you who've experienced something similar.

2024.05.15 16:42 SpaceCowGoBrr Fuck Canterbury Green

I am beyond pissed. My air conditioning broke in my Canterbury unit two weeks ago, was “fixed” within 24 hours, but broke again last Wednesday (May 8) and has been broken ever since. I called in a service request that day, but nothing has been done about it yet; it hit 89 degrees in my apartment on Monday. My partner has a condition that makes them susceptible to seizures at high temperatures so they’re REALLY sensitive to heat and have been suffering daily and getting no sleep due to this bullshit. I’m really worried about them, so I walked down to the office yesterday to see if anything could be done, but all I was able to get were the emails and phone number of the maintenance supervisors, who I promptly called and emailed. One of them was out of office and has the most dystopian fucking automatic response I’ve ever seen; they were like “the bad news is I’m out until May 20, but the good news is you can check out the GolDollar YouTube channel it’s full of videos you won’t want to miss!” Which are all corporate propaganda videos with 12 views apiece. I was disgusted, but I’d done all I could so I left it at that for the evening. Fast forward to this morning an hour ago and I got a call back from the supervisor in the office. Most useless motherfucker I’ve ever spoken to. Apparently is “company policy” that it’s not an emergency until it’s 80F outside, which is fucking stupid as it was 79 last week so it FELT like 80 and with the heat index it was 82. So I was like okay well why wasn’t this expedited last week then?? And all this jackass could say was “iTs cOmPaNY pOliCY,” he couldn’t even give me an ETA on the repair, he just said “there are 20 other broken units” like okay???? That’s not a fucking ETA dude. And then I was like “well my partner has a neurological condition that makes them EXTREMELY sensitive to heat, isn’t THAT an emergency???” And he was like “well, we TRY to get those expedited sooner” 🙄 Overall completely fucking useless. And we looked at our contract and we can’t hire some third party to come fix it because they could terminate the lease early and charge us for that and not reimburse us for the work we had to get done ourselves. I’m beyond pissed. Like what the fuck. I’ve already emailed and called everyone I can, I have no idea when this is gonna get fixed, and I can’t do anything else. We’re going to look for a house once our lease is up in the fall after our wedding to hopefully get the fuck out of here, but until then this is going to suck major ass. If you’re moving to Fort Wayne choose literally anywhere but Canterbury. The buildings are FUCKING ORIGINAL FROM 1970 (the year my DAD was born) and in truly deplorable condition. What appliances haven’t broken in that time are original, there’s water damage virtually everywhere, and shit is literally falling apart. The apartment diagonally downstairs from ours had to have their entire wall replaced because it was rotting away last year, the car ports are rotting, balconies, roofs, you name it it’s fucked. There was even a fire in a unit down the road from me back in January! It’s insane!!! And these AREN’T cheap apartments either, when I first moved in in 2020 my rent was $600 and now it’s $1200 and they haven’t done ANYTHING to upgrade my apartment, if anything it’s gotten shittier. Don’t live here. It sucks. Luxury apartment homes my ASS.

2024.05.15 16:35 Abailey1080 Should I keep them?

I’m being offered these cabinets for free. To me they look a little dated, but not cheap. What do you think? I have some ideas, but how would you spiff em up? Thanks!

Keyboard function buttons sometimes lightblue
Randomly i will notice (more often just the emoji icon) that my buttons are blue. It goes away if i open emoji keyboard or navigate away from whatever app i am in. It also temporarily goes away with the shift button as seen in the video. So far ive found no pattern or anyone else talking about this, any idea what this is or what is causing it?

2024.05.15 16:30 Antonis_Chigouris Help with Iden - green sideboard in a weird meta.

In a wierd twist of the meta our latest 16+ bo3 tournament ended with the top 4 being krennic and iden decks.
And I'm calling it weird because both iden and krennic have a hard time vs the Sabine / Leia heavy field AND the Hans and bobas that prey on the agro.
I was not expecting to play the mirror so my sideboard was lacking.
What can help vs krennic blue and "vanilla" krennic - ECL?
On a side note, I am experimenting with a palpatine blue build that aims to out-draw the other control decks and steal their devastators / avengers / walkers etc.
Any ideas?
