2024.05.21 15:56 k2r727 General tips for new players coming from other FPS games - Work in Progress

Here are some simple but impactful tips that I learned after a few weeks of playing the game. These tips are aimed towards new players, particularly for ones coming from other FPS games.
quick background: I have been playing FPS games for as long as I can remember. Quake, Counter Strike, L4D, Overwatch, Helldivers 2, CoD, Unreal Tournament are some of the more notable ones I've played over the years. these tips come from someone who got their butt handed to them playing hard mode for the first time.
Game options related:
  1. Set your FOV to 130 in the options - The more you see, the less things will catch you by surprise.
  2. Start playing in 3rd third-person camera - similar to tip 1, you see more. plus, it's less jarring when you do a melee strike. only shoulder aim/zoom when the target is far enough or important enough to require precision.
  3. Turn ON your sounds and dialogue - this game has plenty of sound cues. whenever a zeke is about to attack you, there is a specific 'rawr' sound effect which plays. ALL special zombies will make unique sounds before they even get to you. your characters will also notify the player if certain zombies are nearby(they usually say 'theres a creeper nearby!' for lurkers). Knowing what's coming will help you react and make better judgements.
Game play related:
  1. Stop weaving(moving left and right) while shooting - I was very guilty of this during my first week of playing, due to playing Tracer in Overwatch, it was just second nature. This game has friendly fire. imagine your teammates shooting from behind you, trying to hit a Juggernaut in front of you, but you keep moving right into their crosshair. You take damage, your teammates waste ammo and time trying to avoid you, you blame your teammate for shooting you, and the Juggernaut lives long enough to run into everyone. All of this could be avoided if you stopped weaving. In higher difficulty levels, friendly fire damage can be even more unforgiving. the sooner you quit the habit the better.
  2. Try to stay silent - sprinting close to idle zeke, using unsilenced weapons, using heavy weapons, using weapons with explosive ammunition, making things explode(cars, gas canisters, etc.) alert more zeke. unless you are already fighting a swarm of enemies, you should be using silenced weapons or attacking with melee strikes. Making too much noise is bad for you and your team because more zeke will spawn and come after you. the more you fight, the lower your ammo and HP get, the higher chance you and your team won't clear the mission.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the map and the mission - Knowledge is Power. I understand that some players are absolute gods at FPS games. this advice is not so much for them but it will help them A LOT. I highly recommend playing all of the maps at least once or twice on easy or normal with bots or with a friend or 2. The more you know about the map, the more you know where equipment spawn, the more you know where zeke like to come from, the less time you'll spend roaming around the map looking for things or items for the objective.

2024.05.21 15:53 Horror_Mushroom5737 Tips on how to max out your weapons and level up your class:

Tips on how to max out your weapons and level up your class:
Hi lovelies!
Today, I want to talk about leveling up and unlocking your full potential (and arsenal). Usually this is a very time-consuming and tedious process, but following these tips might make it a little less annoying.
Big thank you to for introducing me to these methods!
\"Keep moving, I see the evac point!\"

How do you max out every weapon in just a few hours?
  • Start a private lobby and select Episode 1: New York - Chapter 3: Hell and High Water, on a difficulty you're most comfortable with (usually 2-3💀 are perfectly doable - this is a decent enough way to gain some class experience also),* and with the following mutators: *All Flash, No Bang & Double Benefit (you can also activate the Crossbow Fiesta if you wish to level up your crossbow, Shotgun Fiesta if you wish to level up shotguns, and Wild West if you wish to level up Repeating Rifle and Revolver). P**lay and replay **this mission as many times as necessary, making sure you pick up every primary and secondary weapon along the way. There are two horde events: one in the train yard, the other at the dock. All you have to do is trigger each and use up all the guns that you can find. Every weapon has a chance to spawn, so make sure to look for them (including Sniper Rifles, ACWs, Heavy Pistols...). You can either rely on your Fixer bot or pick the Ammo Fixer class yourself (as you will need ammo bags to keep your guns loaded, you won't find any ammo crates throughout the level because of the All Flash, No Bang mutator). Remember that headshots yield more experience points. You can also pick up Virus Samples \for extra experience points and supply credit/challenge credit. As you progress through the mission, you can breach doors and containers to find even more guns and defenses to kill every Zeke with. Hop on the boat once you're done leveling up your weapons to finish the mission. One playthrough should take about 15–20 minutes, considering you want to level up multiple guns during a single mission, and you'll also get a full reward for completing the mission.
\Note - you can check your progress with a currently equipped weapon by looking at the score board - it will be displayed in the bottom right corner of your screen.*

How do you level up any class and get extra challenge credits?
  • This one is going to be a little awkward, but rewarding. Same principle: start a private lobby and select Episode 1: New York - Chapter 3: Hell and High Water, on Extreme difficulty with the following mutators: Perfect Condition & I Feel Your Pain (you can also activate one of the 'Fiestas' or Wild West). All you have to do is successfully finish the mission with these mutators (NY3 is by far the best mission to do, as there is no timer and objectives are fail proof). It should take, on average, around 10–12 minutes, and you get the full Extreme Mission reward (850 supply credits, 15 challenge credits). In an hour, you will reach lvl30 with a class of your choice and have around 100 extra challenge credits.
  • What happens is that the VIP player (or 'crowned' player - a crown icon appears next to your health bar) gets hurt instead of their teammates. Other players can still get knocked down and pinned, but they can't get hurt by any means. So the VIP players are the only ones whose health bar will deteriorate as all the damage is redirected to them. If they die, it's game over. But thanks to the other mutator, Perfect Condition, there are only two instances when the VIP can die: when they're infected or when they're downed and not helped in time. This is where it can get awkward (and will, eventually) - the more damage your teammates take, the more likely you are to be downed, and every time you're downed, your total health is reduced by 25% until you end up with 10% max health (it won't go lower than that), meaning every hit from this point on that you or your teammates suffer will down you instantly. On the plus side, your teammates can each grab a Virus Sample (it won't break since they don't take damage) for that sweet x5 bonus. Just complete the mission, and don't worry about getting downed every so often, as long as you can make it onto the boat.
  • If you're playing with other players, their only concern will be staying close and getting you up as soon as you go down. If you're playing with bots, always stay close so they can help you - because the AI is horrendous and path-finding and priorities are literal rubbish, this may not always work as they tend to walk slowly, melee enemies, or reload first before getting to you. Sometimes they won't do anything. It may happen every now and then, but just ignore it and try the mission again.
\Note - because this is Extreme WITH mutators, it doesn't meet the conditions for unlocking the Wakizashi, nor does it count towards story progress - you will have to beat the mission without modifiers.*
Hope this helps you on your journey! ♥
xoxo

2024.05.21 15:52 VillageTurbulent20 Advice on how to 100% waterproof dormers

Advice on how to 100% waterproof dormers
TLDR: need best way to waterproof cape dormers with covered porch in CT.
I have a cape in Northeast CT with a covered front porch. Roof was done about 11 years ago. Pic was from roof work, I know Ice and water was extended past the transition and at least a few inches up the front of the dormer, not sure about the sides. I don’t think flashing was replaced with new, I don’t remember siding coming off. 3 years ago water started leaking into our covered porch slowly getting worse. It was coming down original roof and leaking into porch soffit. I have also inspected the roof sheathing from the crawlspaces and all 4 have signs of water. Original contractor was going to look at it but developed cancer and sadly has since passed away. Last fall I had a roof contractor come out and he put some “roof silicone” below the j channel. Temporarily fixed the issue but once temps dropped it came back. Over winter had water stains in my living room ceiling after heavy rain with snow on the roof (2 occasions).
I’ve had a few roofing companies give me estimates but everyone has different opinions on how to do it properly. I’m looking for advice on the best way to make it so I don’t have to worry about it for another 40-50 years. I think mine is a challenge because the porch roof meets right at the bottom of the dormers.
Some say they’ll run ice and water up the sides of the dormers. Others say no…they need to breath and flashing will be sufficient. One said he’d use lead flashing. One recommended rolled roofing on the porch roof. Only one has said they could repair without replacing entire front (which is fine is that’s what needs to be done). Quotes have been all over the place. We are lucky that we have the money to cover replacement within reason, but my main focus is having it done correctly and that doesn’t seem as straight forward as it should be. I’ll also note that behind the dormer siding there is no water barrier.
Thanks so much in advance for any advice.

RYM Greatest Albums Of All Time: #151 Megadeth-Rust In Peace (1988)
Megadeth-Rust In Peace
Megadeth always felt like Metallica’s lil brother even though in my eyes they have had just as much of an impact on the metal scene. Dave Mustaine knows how to write a heavy melodic groove and he is unapologetic in his beliefs and integrity of metal music. Some people complain about his voice but I always like it. Rust In Peace is considered their best album. I prefer their second album Peace Sells. Maybe someday we will get around and talk about that one. I am just happy a greatest album list includes metal music as lists like the Rolling Stone and Apple completely disregard the genre.
The album opens with “Holy Wars…The Punishment Due” right away that heavy dense Megadeth sound blasts out onto your speakers. The song is inspired by the Northern Ireland movement to break away from the UK. the song is also inspired by the Marvel Character The Punisher. “Hangar 18” has the chop[y fast riff that encompasses the whole song. The song of course is about the mysterious base in Arizona that is supposed to house UFOs. The chorus is one of the catchiest the band will ever record. This is top tier Megadeth. “Take No Prisoners” has this heavy dense speed metal groove. It is just unrelenting in its heaviness, a perfect title for this track. I think Take No Prisoners, Take No Shit is Mustaine’s mantra. “Five Magics” is one of the few times that Megadeth have ventured into fantasy lyrically. David Ellefson has some great bass lines on this track. “Poison Was The Cure '' tackles Mustiane’s alcohol and heroin addiction. “Lucretia” is about a ghost that lived in Mustaine attic who he would visit every night. It has these high end guitar tones that I love. “Tornado Of Souls” is about the breakup between Mustaine and his then fiance. Marty Friedman has one of the great metal guitar solos ever on this track. “Dawn Patrol” is a quick, dense track. Mustaine's voice is as low as it could possibly go and Elfefson bass and drummer Menza rhythms rule this track. The album closes with “Rust In Peace ...Polaris” addresses one of the band’s favorite topics: Nuclear destruction. Polaris is a type of nuclear missile. The title was inspired by a bumper sticker Munstaine saw that said may all your Nuclear weapons rust in peace.
If I am going to put together Metal albums everyone should listen to I am going to put this one near the top of that list. It deserves all the praise it gets plus more. These early Megadeth albums were so amazing. They hold up decades later. Metallica might get all the acclaim but Megadeth deserves credit of maintaining the workmen like consistency to the the thrash metal genre.

2024.05.21 15:43 kingadrenaline Recent Grad starting a New Job

Starting a Job after college with a lot of travel. I recently graduated college as a Civil Engineer. I've accepted a job offer as a Geotechnical Engineer. The job requires me too drive to different construction sites within the Philadelphia/NJ area from King Of Prussia doing inspections and testing.
I would also need a car capable enough to drive around on this construction sites. I will also be transporting testing equipment and samples and need good cargo space.
I'm looking for a car with good mileage because of the extra travel, we recently got a electric car charger installed at the house and was thinking about getting a PHEV.
The job pays higher range in the 60 thousands and I have about 28k in debt, l'm striving to pay that off in a year and half. I'm living at home with the parents until I do and don't have any other payments.
What car would be feasible for me capabilities and budget wise.
Additional information, I will be reimbursed 0.68 a mile and might drive around 500 miles a week I'm not totally sure. I'm trading in my 2016 Nissan Rogue.

Hello, users!
I'd like to sell the great gaming monitors.
Please see the list below.
Product Description Price (Local Cash) TimeStamp
Samsung 49inch Odyssey OLED G9 Gaming Monitor (G95SC) BNIB // It's not shippable due to the risk of the damage $900 TimeStamp
Samsung 49inch Odyssey OLED G9 Gaming Monitor (G95SC) BNIB // It's not shippable due to the risk of the damage $900 TimeStamp
They are all 'Brand new in Box' status.
Actually, I'm using this monitor model currently. I can say this is a really awesome monitor. Especially, the color expression and the brightness with HDR on its OLED panel were amazing. I'm so happy in gaming with it since it supports 240hz refresh rate as well.
This has the quite big display but it's not that heavy and it's very slim. So you don't need to worry about the weight for your desk.
For the trade, they are not shippable considering the damage in the transit. I accept the pickup with local cash and I'm open for the price negotiation. My ZIP code is 07650 and I can also drop off if the destination has less than an hour driving distance. (But I don't want to go to NYC by driving, haha)
If you have questions for the products, please don't hesitate to send the message. (I don't accept the chat!)

Legionaries wargear options
Do i read it correctly. If i take 10-man squad I'll still be able to take only 1 heavy melee weapon, it doesn't matter 5 man or 10 man. For special weapons it's clear, we only can take 1 per 5 models without duplicates. I planned to build a melee squad with a lord and moe of 10. But don't know now if it is worth it taking 10 legionaries.

2024.05.21 15:28 jake112000 First time Izzet player needs advice

When Thunder Junction came out, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and make a less creature oriented deck and throw together a [[Lilah, Undefeated Slickshot]] spellslingestorm deck with all of the spellslinger cards I had built up in my collection. I’ve tested it out 1v1, and while I’ve been able to pull off a few wins, it feels like I’m barely fending off my opponent’s creatures until I draw the right card at the last possible moment.
I’ve considered adding effects like [[propaganda]] or [[silent arbiter]], or adding more fodder generators like [[murmuring mystic]] and [[Talrand, Sky Summoner]], but I’d like some suggestions from people who have more experience building this kind if deck. I’ve also struggled against more ramp-heavy decks during testing, so I would like some advice on ramp in Izzet as well. My budget right now is only around $30, but I’m still open to suggestions in the $5-$10. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Therefore, any construction project necessitates the use of construction equipment. However, contractors don’t desire to own all of the construction equipment needed for the project.
Excavation, digging vast quantities of dirt, moving it over great distances, placement, compacting, leveling, dozing, grading, hauling, and so on are the basic operations involved in building any project. The type of construction equipment used in India and overseas is listed below.

Types of Construction Equipment

Would you mind reviewing the construction equipment categorization and the names and photographs? The following are some of the most common types of construction equipment:
  • Earthmoving Machines
  • Material Handling Equipment Construction Vehicles
  • Other Construction Tools
Many industries use earthmoving equipment for various excavation jobs, including digging and moving the earth. In addition, it is common to use different types of earthmoving machinery for repairing, constructing, elevating, agricultural, among other things.
The earthmoving machinery most commonly used in construction projects is listed below.

Excavators

Excavators are machine-moving buckets, arms, rotating cabs, and movable tracks. Moreover, these components give this heavy equipment more digging strength and mobility, allowing it to do everything from digging trenches and breaking holes to hauling rubbish and excavating mines.
A backhoe, also known as a rear actor or back actor, is excavating equipment, or digger, consisting of a digging bucket attached to the end of a two-part articulated arm. Also, it’s usually installed on the back of a tractor or front loader, forming a “backhoe loader” in the latter case.

Loaders

Loaders are construction equipment that loads asphalt, demolition waste, dirt, snow, and other materials into machinery like a dump truck and conveyor belt.
Furthermore, different types of loaders are referred to by other names depending on their design and application, such as bucket loader, front loader, front-end loader, payloader, scoop, shovel, skip loader, wheel loader, or skid-steer.

Bulldozers

A bulldozer is a large and heavy tractor with a substantial metal plate for pushing large quantities of soil, sand, rubble, or other similar material during construction or conversion work. However, it is usually equipped with a claw-like device at the back to loosen densely compacted materials.

Skid Steer Loaders

A skid loader, also known as a skid-steer loader or skid steer, is small engine-driven equipment with lift arms that may attach to various labor-saving tools or attachments.
Skid-steer loaders are four-wheel vehicles with mechanically locked synchronization on each side and the ability to move the left-side drive wheels independently of the right-side drive wheels. On the contrary, the wheels usually do not have their steering gear and are kept straight on the machine’s body.

2024.05.21 15:16 authrop My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.

My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.
I discovered Ironsworn a few years back during a Print-and-play / Solo gaming phase brought about due to the pandemic lockdown. I had played and enjoyed Four Against Darkness and quickly started looking for something else to scratch the Solo RPG/Gaming itch. Ironsworn seemed really interesting for a number of reasons:
  1. The narrative first approach interested me as someone who has enjoyed creative writing forever but lacked the focus to actually sit down and do it regularly.
  2. The very relaxed attitude to the setting. The Ironlands felt like it was as much a jumping off point for world creation as an interesting world to explore. The Your Truths exercise only increased this feeling and was a joy to complete on its own, even without playing the game.
  3. The extremely well written (Free!) rulebook which quickly became something I read to relax, again without even begining to play the game.
  4. The Oracles felt incredible to roll on and discover new exciting and unexpected avenues for storytelling.
Despite all of this interest, I initially struggled to get a campaign off the ground. I would enjoy creating the world and a character but then after a brief start, lose interest in my personal journey and return back to looking at the rulebook or finding other resources available, or watching Me, Myself and Die! or some other, much more practised, solo player.
I think the reason for this was that I didn't have a set method for actually playing the game. I would switch between: messing with Roll20 or Ironjournal, jotted down notes in a notepad, using a word document on my laptop and various other ways as I basically procrastinated actually making headway in my story. Even printing and organising the Lodestar reference book along with various cheatsheets in a nice folder for eventual use once I stopped dithering about. In the end, it got shelved. Always in the back of my mind and never completely forgotten but not touched for a couple of years.
Then recently I got an urge and had a quick glance through the rulebook PDF which was on my phone and I realised something I should have known all along; Ironsworn isn't a strict, crunchy system but a tool for personal storytelling and to relax into it.
So after rereading the entire rulebook (haha, of course! I love that thing) and also looking into the newer version of Ironjournal, I started and it's even better than I imagined once everything starts to flow and analysis paralysis fades.
My current setup is:
• A tablet (less distractions than a laptop) and a Bluetooth keyboard (for faster typing and easier access to formatting controls).
• The newer Ironjournal open in split screen with a Google document - I use Ironjournal for the truths, the character sheet and progress tracks, map and location/NPC tracking. The Google doc is for the my campaign journal as I can have a nicer, more novel-like font (helps me alot for all types of writing) and also allows me to format it clearer between narrative and mechanics over the inbuilt journal function of IJ.
• After using the inbuilt dice rolleoracle roller in IJ for a short while, I have switched to psychical dice and a dice tray and I now refer to my stats and the oracles in Eric Bright's Expanded Oracles document (which now includes Shawn Tomkins original oracles as well). Manually making the calculations and assessing the results. - Although this method is slightly longer, it seems to produce better narrative discussions for me rather than the extremely quick way in which IJ throws the results at you.
• I also have the rulebook PDF open as a pop out for reference along with the Expanded Oracles PDF.
• Finally, something I have discovered and I find interesting is using the UNE (Universal NPC Emulator) and BOLD (Book of Legends and Deeds) both by the late Zach Best. I believe these pre-date Ironsworn by a good 10 years and in someway do a similar job as some of IS's oracles but there is something about the structure and the results being framed as a leading question I find helpful and exciting.
All in all, I think I've found a good workflow to progress stories and enjoy the system (finally!).
Next upgrades on my list are:
• To become familiar with Delve and introduce that - I have the PDF and have read a large chunk of it but haven't bit the bullet and used it (I also haven't felt the base game lacking or the need for more as of yet).
• To get some heavy metal dice as the tactile element of them appeals to me in a way I can't quite explain (haha!).
• To become more familiar with how best to map out or otherwise create visual counterparts for my adventures, either using AI image generation or something else. Currently using a generated village map from Watabou's Procgen Arcana as a starting point for my characters home village.
Any advice or things that people have found to be personally beneficial in getting and keeping your games interesting and flowing well would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I wrote this post for advice or to simply consolidate my relationship with the Ironsworn system for myself. Either way, here is it!
