2024.05.21 12:05 CF_Siveryany Hi, Reddit!!! As a rule, psychological support centres are far away and the guys themselves maintain their mental health by fishing :). I asked the guys for this video to raise funds for a Mavic 3pro. Thanks to you, I bought it, but the video is good, so I'll post it anyway.
2024.05.21 12:04 Unhappy_Ocelot2202 Should i support this friend for what they did?
Hi, i am currently in high school (year 10-12) and this story happened backstage at a musical and i was wondering your opinions on this and whether you think i should support them.
my bad this is long as hell
TLDR: 2 of my friends got into a one sided altercation which led to a threat on the others life, they were kicked from the show and suspended, the one who made the threat has Autism and ADHD and said he was out of control of his body, he has done little to apologise for the matter (from what i can see) but i have been urged by a mutual friend that they need support as they are going through a tough time and didnt mean what they said, and i am not sure what to do expecially with the fact they are now back at school
There are 2 main people in this story who we will call Jack and Sam
Jack and Sam have know each other for a long time but had a falling out a while ago, neither of them care for one another but they could tolerate each other sometimes. i am good friends with jack and kinda friends with Sam, Sam has ADHD and Autism.
Backstage Jack was putting a chair down to sit in the vocal booth, Sam did not like where the chair was as he believed it was in the way and told Jack to move it, Jack calmy reassured Sam that it was fine and that there was no need to worry, Sam became increasingly more loud and angry while Jack remained calm and eventually Jack asked Sam to be more quiet as a scene was happening on stage. Sam proceeded to grab Jack by the shirt and yelled "Shut the fuck up before i stab you" and then he stormed off.
with this not being the first time Sam and Jack had an altercation and not the first time Sam had exploded and ran off, we were scared for Jacks safety and Jack was scared for his own as we were not sure whether this was a real threat or whether he was just angry.
Sam had a quite major character in the show and was then forced to give up the character 4 days before the show and he was suspended.
Sam has made quite a few online statements on the matter, most of it he doesn't apologies for his actions besides one lone and short paragraph where he says he is sorry towards the people he may have hurt and the cast, he did not mention Jack. the rest of the statements are him rambling on about how the school has lost all care for him and that its the schools fault for kicking him out of the show. He claimed that due to feeling "antogonised" that night by cast members he lost control over his body and didnt mean what he had said as he had no control.
after the dust had settled a few days after the incident i was asked by a mutual friend of Sam and I to try and support him as he needs it right now, This mutual also has mental health struggles and has stated that they know what its like to lose control over your body. i said i didnt feel comfortable supporting him right now due to the fact it doesnt excuse what he did and he scared multiple of my friends even excluding Jack.
if i am to be honest, i resent Sam now and honestly never wish to see him again, due to his actions and the fact he has done little to apologies
i was wondering whether you guys believe whether i should try and support Sam though as he claims he had no control over his body and he's been having mental health struggles. And since Sam is now back at school i'm honestly not sure what to do
thanks guys

2024.05.21 12:03 Interesting-Class236 What if Charles in Feb announced his cancer diagnosis b/c he was trying to prod William to come clean about Kate?
King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis on Feb 5.
https://x.com/RoyalFamily/status/1754565735655887066 This was a monumental change in royal protocol. Historically the royal family has been very close-mouthed about health issues, particularly potential-death ones. 500 years ago, it was a crime to even utter "the King may die"; to say the words was considered a form of treason. So in context, the royals's reticence is a tradition.
The op/ed pieces in Feb attributed the royals's new forthrightness to a "new monarchy," progress, trying to be more forthcoming, transparency is good for the state, etc etc.
But what if instead: Charles well knew Kate was in a coma, Charles was furious with William for not disclosing it, and Charles thought that perhaps if he, the King, led by example, William might also disclose to the public Kate's condition?
On Feb 1, Kensington Palace aka William made the unusual move of denying a rumor: namely that Kate was in a coma
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/kate-princess-wales-health-hospital-royal-family-news-kensington-palace-5fjjpbxls . On Feb 3, the Spanish journalist who originally broke the coma story doubled down on her reporting that Kate was in a coma:
KateMiddletonMissing/comments/1c5horx/the_original_and_complete_january_reporting_about If Charles in early February believed that the truth about Kate had been leaked and that the only way out was to come clean about her condition--and he couldn't force William to do it--then maybe he thought that his son might follow his lead in disclosing what had traditionally been considered the royals's private health information to the public?
Charles's only other recourse would have been to have had Buckingham Palace issue a statement to inform the world that Kate was in a coma. And if he had done that... well, William would have most likely broken permanently with his father. It might even have split the family in two.

2024.05.21 12:01 AutoModerator Weekly book club by marmalada.org
This week's book club list is as follows (enjoy reading and comment which your favourite is below):
- The Lost Art of Compassion: Discovering the Practice of Happiness in the Meeting of Buddhism and Psychology by Lorne Ladner: Dr Lorne Ladner rescues compassion from this marginalised view, showing how its practical application in our life can be a powerful force in achieving happiness. Combining the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism and Western psychology, Ladner presents clear, effective practices for cultivating compassion in daily living.
- Choosing Happiness: Keys to a Joyful Life by Alexandra Stodda: Happiness lies in the passions we pursue and in the pressures we decline. It is in knowing how to work and when to play. It is in the treasured objects we keep nearby and in the ordinary moments we elevate into small celebrations. It is in the note we write to a friend and the kindness we show a stranger. It is in the colors we love and the music that transports us. It may be as simple as sunlight on your face; as sudden as a shared smile; as sensuous as a single flower on your desk, candles on your nightstand, or cookies hot from the oven. Happiness is what you make it, where you make it. Happiness is our best choice.
- Health, Wealth and Happiness: You Can Control Your Destiny by David Singh: David Singh's dramatic journey from the jungles of Guyana to the helm of one of Canada's largest financial planning companies provides the backdrop for this guide to lasting happiness. Advocating wise investments, careful planning, and healthy eating choices, this inspirational book uncovers the secrets to a happier and more successful life.
- What All the World's A-Seeking: Or, The Vital Law of True Life, True Greatness Power and Happiness by Ralph Waldo Trine: Ralph Waldo Trine was an influential member of the New Thought movement. He was one of the first people to write about the Law of Attraction. Long before Rhonda Byrne discovered the secret that one's positive thoughts are powerful magnets that attract wealth, health, and happiness, Trine already knew it.
- Authentic Happiness: Using the New Positive Psychology to Realize Your Potential for Lasting Fulfillment by Martin Seligman: I have read about 80 pages and I am enjoying Seligmen's friendly, engaging writing style so far. Also, there are interesting facts about each person's 'range' of happiness being fixed on a spectrum.Great so far. Will attempt to update review when I have completed the book.
- Happiness Hypothesis: Putting Ancient Wisdom to the Test of Modern Science by Jonathan Haidt: Jonathon Haidt is a terrifically productive thinker about psychology. This is book is a credo and a guide book to your own happiness via an accomplished romp through the psychological literature which Haidt uses to explore the truths of ancient religion. I'm surprised it's not a wild best seller, but I think I know why - it doesn't have an singular and catchy formula for your salvation which you can learn in your lunchtime and hear about ad nauseam on late night TV infomercials. Just well written, well thought out commentary on the formula for a happy and fulfilled life distilled from the psychological literature.
- It's All in Your Head: Thinking Your Way to Happiness by Stephen M. Pollan, Mark Levine: If you've ever wanted to have a conversation with someone on a normal level about undoing negative thinking patterns, this book is about the closest you'll ever get in written form. The style is conversational, pragmatic, and realistic. Kind of like talking to a favorite uncle or aunt who is just "on the mark" about dealing with life. The book focuses on 8 behaviothought patterns that hinder us from being happy NOW, and provides simple, easy "exercises" to do to help overcome them. It is also one of those rare self-help books that the whole family can read, enjoy, and profit from. In my opinion, this book is better than any other I've read by Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Nathaniel Branden, and many others. If you've ever thought you can be happier, YOU CAN, and this book can help you get there.
- Handbook on the Economics of Happiness by Luigino Bruni, Pier Luigi Porta: This Handbook provides an unprecedented forum for discussion of the economic issues relating to happiness. It reviews the more recent literature and offers the interested reader an insight into the vast scope of the field in terms of the theory, its applications and also experimental design. The Handbook also gives substantial indications as to the future direction of research in the field, with particular regard to policy applications and developing an economics of interpersonal relations which includes reciprocity and social interaction theory.
- Freeing your child from negative thinking: powerful, practical strategies to build a lifetime of resilience, flexibility, and happiness by Tamar E. Chansky: This book is excellent for those who wish to embrace Food Combining i.e. what has become known as the Hay Diet. It is where one avoids mixing starch-based foods and protein-based foods in the same meal.
- The 7 Steps of Spiritual Intelligence: The Practical Pursuit of Purpose, Success and Happiness Volume by Richard A. Bowell: Pioneering researcher and educator Richard Bowell delivers the first and only self-help guide to the power of spiritual intelligence (SQ)-the next evolutionary stage in our pursuit of purpose, success, and happiness. He introduces the latest breakthroughs in neuro-science. Life lessons from such exceptional individuals as Nelson Mandela to Ghandi and Mother Theresa take readers on a self-guided journey to personal development and growth.

rant/vent
đI had pretyped this just ranting then I realized i can post it anonymously here bc iâm really struggling and would like some outside advice human to human feels like iâm gaslighting myself lol. They have supported me and given me everything I need materialistically and do what they are supposed to as parents in that aspect I am very grateful and appreciative of that. in no way shape or form will I ever complain ab them giving me food, shelter, clothes etc. Iâm not seeking to be coddled or get sympathy either i just need to know if it really is that bad or am I tripping.
đŹemotionally manipulative & guilt tripping parents will be their own demise. lol. finally dropping that mask you have with them, making them look at themselves and see the torment i had to mentally internalize & take on over the years > sitting back & letting them continue their behavior and control to keep destroying your identity & self continuing to deal with immense shame, guilt, sadness, and anger because you know how they are and you think theres no point in opening up to them or telling them what they do wrong bc they always do the same shit & continue to blame you for everything. note this though when I finally released all my years of internalized emotions on them and started texting them very knowledgeable shit about themselves, how they treated me, my mom trying to control and ruin me and my girlfriends relationship when we first got together (+ we have continued to be together for 1yr and 3 months still going strong she ainât ruin shiiiit) & shit talked my gf for no reason at all. When I started texting paragraph after paragraph (+ texting them back and forth.) I was met with my mom thinking something isnât right regarding my mental health and telling my dad and brother she thinks something is wrong with me again (she was surprised how I could speak so knowledgeable bc I barely even interact with them anymore) them texting my phone asking if everything is okay and they are worried ab me (sheâs also made many comments before this situation like âyou seem like you need to get back on ur medication youâre being irritableâ etc when clearly that was the correct response to some fucked up comment she made iâm sick of that shit.) (sorry that was lowkey irrelevant but holy shit). them throwing what they do for me as PARENTS in my face, blame shifting, manipulation, lying, her saying she has no acknowledgment of ever treating me like that over the years, trying to ruin our relationship, or saying any of the vile shit she said about my gf. OH and how she thought It couldnât possibly be me thatâs writing these exceptional level paragraphs and she thought my gf was controlling me and making me send all of that to my parents(me texting her ab this shit went on for like 3 days, 3 days of her not taking accountability for anything, lying, trying to manipulate by making me feel bad as well and she had the nerve to say âit feels like iâm being abusedâ GIRLLL STOPPP HUH im still confused ab that one) itâs honestly sickening and baffling knowing ppl can think & say shit like that. iâve been so detached from them since I was little (never knew why at the time) but THIS makes that detachment 100x worse and I feel like thatâs a GOOD thing for me even though the outcome wasnât what I wanted, bc iâm feeling free, released, not pint-up, etc most importantly more like I can finally be MYSELF!!! iâm way more comfortable in who I am and my Identity now at 19 could you imagine that like damn (just hoping itâs not temporary)!!! just putting this out there in hopes that someone else going through the same thing or similar will see and maybe help them a little. now i just gotta move out.
âď¸ she canât see how what she says to people effects them drastically and takes 0 responsibility and acknowledgement of doing so and passes it off as âyou donât know meâ âiâm a good personâ âi have a good heart i love everybodyâ etc or blame everything on me for examples âwe do everything for youâ âyouâre going to treat us like that when we sacrificed so much for youâ etc um .. yeah they signed up for that when they decided to have a child so itâs fucked up to throw that in my face. THEN she loves to do this the most playing the victim card âyouâre abusing meâ âit feels like you are abusing meâ âwe feel like we canât say anything right we are always walking on eggshells around you itâs exhaustingâ she knows damn well Iâm not abusing her in any way shape or form thatâs disrespectful to many people who actually had to go through and endure actual abuse. âdo you want to hurt us? is that your goalâ âyouâre destroying the familyâ âyouâre destroying our marriageâ etc literally used to be all the timmmme when i was going through sh and stuff too. i didnât do anything wronggggg all I did was speak up for myself FOR ONCE (bc itâs been YEARS) ab the shit she does and how iâm not okay with it i internalize literally everything (thatâs y it took years. just sick of their shit idk what to do). low and behold after all that expressing I get met with all that blame shifting and lying. the reason why i never open up to her is bc when I do ever since i was little she always blamed me and made it seem like this whole other thing so hell yeah iâd rather internalize then talk to her thatâs a way better option than getting met with guilt tripping and shit what else could I do but internalize n doing that fucked my head up BAD. there are MANY more examples of what else she would say and my dad too but i really think heâs brainwashed by her so idk thatâs just off the top of my head .. lmao. she makes me feel so insaneee i even feel like iâm exaggerating and making a big deal n being too sensitive writing all thisđľâđŤ. thereâs SO MUCH more context but fuck all that i typed enough. thx for coming to my ted talkđˇď¸.

Quick Flip Go Water Bottle in the Tigerlily color. This water bottle has become a staple in my daily routine. The first thing that caught my eye was its sleek design â perfect for carrying on the go. The double-wall vacuum insulation is a real game-changer. Whether I'm sipping on iced water in the summer or a hot cup of tea in the winter, the temperature remains consistent for hours. One feature I particularly appreciate is the trigger-action lid. It's easy to use and helps prevent spills, making it great for when I'm on the move. Plus, the fact that it's dishwasher safe is a lifesaver. No more scrubbing by hand! However, there are a couple of downsides. Firstly, the weight of the bottle can be a bit of a struggle for those who prefer a lighter option. Secondly, the dimensions might not fit all car cup holders, which can be a hassle during road trips. Overall, the Stanley Quick Flip Go Water Bottle has been a reliable companion in my everyday life. Its combination of style, functionality, and durability make it a must-have for anyone looking for a reliable water bottle. https://preview.redd.it/v48i5gn34r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64aac772c9910fa7f43dc2f916fb8b53b380e7fc I've been using the Cold Steel Heavy Duty Cane in my daily life, and it has proven to be quite the companion. The nylon handle provides an enhanced grip that makes it convenient to hold, while the steel construction ensures structural strength for long-term use. I particularly appreciate the rubber ferrule, which is designed to be slip-resistant, making it an excellent choice for uneven terrain or icy sidewalks. One downside is that it might be a bit heavy for some people, especially those who don't need the extra weight for support. However, the overall design and engineering of the cane are top-notch, and it gives me a sense of reassurance knowing I have a sturdy and reliable walking staff whenever I need it. https://preview.redd.it/onud1it34r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19aa78d8c58949aae696362f44a26b21b9da0dca This past summer, I found myself on a weekend camping trip and realized I didn't pack a shovel. I needed to dig a small trench around my campsite to divert water. Luckily, a friend had a Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel that he let me borrow. On the first day, he taught me how to use it. The edge was sharp, and the handle felt sturdy. I was surprised by how strong it was. I struggled a bit at first, but it didn't take long before I was able to dig the trench. After returning from the camping trip and reflecting on the weekend, I realized that the shovel had some flaws. Firstly, it was a bit heavy for a camping trip, and I felt it could cause strain on my back over time. Secondly, it didn't come with a sheath, which was inconvenient since I had to keep it in my vehicle's trunk, where it took up too much space. Despite these issues, I still appreciated the durability of the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel. It was clear that it was designed for heavy-duty tasks. The edge remained sharp even after I used it heavily. The wooden handle felt comfortable to hold, even though it was a bit on the thick side. Overall, the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel was a functional tool, but it could be improved for camping trips or situations where portability is a priority. https://preview.redd.it/duzypj644r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4feb4a7502a34a0974f6539f3524c5dc9b0652ab As someone who thoroughly enjoyed diving into the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and IV, let me share my experience with this dynamic duo. The deluxe edition for Playstation 5 was a refreshing return to the rich world of Erebonia, where war hero Rean Schwarzer began his new life as an instructor at Thors Military Academy's branch campus. What stood out to me was how the game expertly handled the aftermath of the Erebonian Civil War and introduced new threats to keep the story alive. Delving into it with the improved RPG gameplay on PlayStation 5 made my journey even more immersive. Plus, the cosmetic DLC available with these iterations ensured that every member of my party was looking their best, adding a unique touch to the experience. However, like any other game, it wasn't all smooth sailing. There were moments that were a bit challenging, but overall, the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and IV truly delivered an engaging experience that I thoroughly enjoyed as a fan of the genre. https://preview.redd.it/u3w4xrr44r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c04c7764c1fb93b8481b812e63772b4366bf500d As a home cook who's always experimenting with new recipes and kitchen tools, I've found myself in a bit of a pickle when it comes to removing stubborn grease from my appliances. That's why I was thrilled to try the Shumanit Cold Grease Remover. Right off the bat, I found it remarkable how quickly this cold grease remover works. No need for a heat source or any harsh chemicals. In fact, it's effective on all sorts of surfaces - my oven, pots, frying pans, baking trays, stainless steel dishes, cooking surfaces, steam extractors, and even hard-to-clean vents. I've had my fair share of leaky packages in the past, but the Shumanit Cold Grease Remover was surprisingly well-packed. It comes in a sturdy plastic bottle with a trigger spray that's easy to use. The product has a delightful citrus smell that lifts the spirits while I'm getting my hands dirty in the kitchen. Plus, the grease and grime just seem to vanish as if by magic. However, there's one small downside to my Shumanit experience. On one occasion, the package was partially leaking, which made me worry about the condition of the other products in the batch. I just hope it was a one-time issue and not a trend. To sum up, the Shumanit Cold Grease Remover is a truly versatile and effective grease and grime remover. It's a lifesaver for anyone who values a sparkling clean kitchen. Let's just hope the packaging improves in the future. https://preview.redd.it/94c0sq154r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e05bc9a8d38beb755f6ee94776ff2533d2ed8d3 The Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle is a versatile and durable companion for any outdoor excursion. It's been a part of my camping adventures for years, ensuring that my beverages stay the perfect temperature no matter the weather. The thick stainless steel walls not only keep my iced drinks cold for two days but also keep my hot beverages warm for up to two weeks. Plus, the leak-proof lid doubles as a cup, providing a convenient and easy-to-use option for sipping on the go. The 2.5-quart capacity is ideal for sharing drinks with friends or keeping a large quantity of your favorite beverage at the ready. I've washed my Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle in the dishwasher without any concerns about rust or BPA exposure, and it continues to perform as well as it did on day one. Overall, the Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle has become an essential part of my outdoor gear, and I can't imagine spending time in nature without it. https://preview.redd.it/hv1cfgh54r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92c3e83a1e6ed9bde65bd49c95962c0425bd9025 For my outdoor adventures, the Stanley Legendary Classic Bottle 1.5qt Habitat has truly been a game-changer. This insulated beverage container ensures my drinks remain at the perfect temperature for hours on end, whether I'm savoring a hot cup of coffee on a chilly morning or enjoying an icy beverage on a sweltering day. One of my favorite features is the stainless steel construction, which not only makes the bottle sturdy and durable but also ensures it's free of BPA, a nice touch for any health-conscious individual. The double-wall vacuum insulation, another key highlight, works wonders in keeping my beverages at their desired temperatures, even in extreme conditions. However, I found that the bottle can be quite difficult to clean, especially along the insulated areas. Additionally, the screw cap lid, while functional, can be a bit tricky to twist off after a while, depending on the grip strength. These minor inconveniences aside, the Stanley Legendary Classic Bottle has proven to be an indispensable companion on all my outdoor excursions. https://preview.redd.it/4ogfz5u54r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4866a573a4c06607a53a48abca3bb57ecd3aa95 Recently, I got my hands on the J-B Weld Original Cold-Weld Formula Steel Reinforced Epoxy. I was intrigued by the fact that it could serve as an inexpensive alternative to welding, soldering, and brazing. To my surprise, this versatile epoxy proved to be a game-changer in my daily life. One of the most impressive features of the J-B Weld epoxy is its water-resistant nature. I used it to seal a leak in my water pipe, and it worked like a charm. The epoxy's petroleum and chemical resistance made it perfect for my project, as it withstood various tests without any damage. Another standout feature of this product is its non-toxic and safe-to-use nature. I used it to fix my child's broken toy, and its safety made me feel more comfortable. However, I did notice that the mixing ratio of the epoxy is quite sensitive. One must be cautious not to deviate too far from the 1-1 ratio of liquid steel/epoxy resin and the hardener. A slight miscalculation could result in a weaker bond or the need for reapplication. In conclusion, the J-B Weld Original Cold-Weld Formula Steel Reinforced Epoxy is a must-have for DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike. Its ease of use, remarkable strength, and versatility make it a standout product in its category. Despite the minor drawback of the mixing ratio, the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience. https://preview.redd.it/hjiqws764r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=778b7036f610f7931a5d1bf47b1544b1da25f09e I recently put the Stanley Classic to the test on an outing to the mountains. This bottle is a true companion for outdoor enthusiasts, with its impressive 18/8 stainless steel construction and BPA-free design. The 1.5 quart capacity means it can handle all types of drinks, from hot coffee to icy coolers, and keep them at the optimal temperature for up to two days. The folding handle is a clever added feature that allows for easy carrying without the risk of it rolling away. One of the standout features of this bottle is its leakproof design, making it a reliable option for packing in a backpack or storing in a truck bed. The wide mouth also makes it easy to fill and clean, which is especially helpful for those who enjoy making their own homemade brews. However, I did notice that the bottle is quite heavy, weighing in at 2 pounds, making it more challenging to carry for longer periods of time. Overall, the Stanley Classic is an excellent investment for those who love spending time outdoors and need a reliable companion to keep their drinks at the perfect temperature. https://preview.redd.it/l5lg54i64r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e07172bcc88a069950d96dd4cfb862f209f40f40 I recently had the chance to put the Cooper Stainless Steel Water Bottle to the test, and I have to say, it impressed me with its performance. The most standout feature of this water bottle is its ability to keep drinks cold for an impressive amount of time. I often struggle to find a water bottle that can truly keep my beverage chilled all day long, but this one did just that. The double-walled and vacuum insulated design does an excellent job of maintaining the temperature of the liquid inside. Another feature I appreciated is the leak-proof lid. No matter how rough I was with it, it never leaked once. The one-touch silicone push button locking mechanism helped keep my bag and clothes dry, while the straw was a fun and convenient addition. Cleaning it was also a breeze, thanks to the top rack dishwasher safe lids and BPA-free materials. However, I did experience a downside with the product - it isn't suitable for hot beverages. If you're someone who prefers drinking tea or coffee, this may not be the best option for you. Additionally, I found it slightly difficult to fit the bottle in my usual cup holders, which can be inconvenient during travel or at the gym. Overall, the Cooper Stainless Steel Water Bottle did an incredible job of keeping my drinks cold and providing a leak-proof, easy-to-clean design. Although there were minor drawbacks, I still enjoyed its benefits and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish water bottle. https://preview.redd.it/fva5u8074r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=021a8e122aa23b47e0dbf977a9a0b77939f8066e I recently had the chance to try out the Stanley 1.1 Qt. Classic Canteen, a 18/8 stainless steel bottle that promises to be leakproof, packable, and perfect for outdoor use. At first glance, the canteen looks sleek and sturdy, with a classic design that makes it easy to hold and carry around. It comes equipped with a removeable carrying strap that keeps your hands free and adds a touch of style to the canteen. One of the standout features of this canteen is its non-insulated stainless steel material, which allows for easy packing while still offering a decent capacity for your favorite beverage. However, I found that the lack of insulation means that the canteen doesn't retain temperature as well as I would have liked. While it's fine for day-to-day use, it's not ideal for taking on long hikes or camping trips where maintaining the temperature of your drink is important. Another downside to the canteen is the attached cap, which can be a bit tricky to open and close, especially with one hand. Though I appreciate the convenience of having it attached, it would be nice if the cap were more user-friendly and easy to access. Additionally, the metal clips on the carrying strap can be quite loud when walking or hiking, which can be a bit distracting and might not be the most discreet choice for stealthily navigating through the wilderness. Despite these minor drawbacks, overall I found the Stanley 1.1 Qt. Classic Canteen to be a functional and stylish option for everyday use. It's a good choice if you're looking for a versatile water bottle that won't break the bank, but just remember to manage your expectations when it comes to insulation and noise. https://preview.redd.it/g8jdgja74r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5900642083119fc5f56b1e9d8f8477efab04f303 The Corkcicle 32oz Sport Canteen boasts a spacious 950mL capacity, perfect for hydration while on the go. Its quick sip lid adds convenience to everyday use, and the signature flat sides and Duraprene finish ensure a secure grip. Triple-insulation maintains drinks at their desired temperature for extended periods, making it an ideal choice for both hot and chilled beverages alike. A wide mouth allows for ice cube insertion, while the lid's easy-to-use one-hand opening adds practicality. Regrettably, some users have experienced issues with the lid's functionality and structure, which may prove a disadvantage for those seeking a seamless drinking experience. Nonetheless, for those seeking a durable, stylish, and functional water bottle, the Corkcicle 32oz Sport Canteen offers an impressive range of features. https://preview.redd.it/ba7lnum74r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4236dde9fc2a1109edb6d8a02ff4d627c9fb186e This Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle, aptly named "Nightfall, " has become an essential companion in my daily life. The bottle's robustness and dependability have captivated me, as my newfound favorite keeps the brew piping hot during those frigid mornings or even chills your favorite beverage during scorching summer days. One of the key features that have blown my mind is its innovative, leak-proof design. By using the twist-and-pour stopper, it ensures that my adventures are safe from any accidental mishaps involving the bottle. Moreover, the slim design makes it the perfect single-handed companion, ensuring a comfortable grip. However, there are a couple of minor nits. The lid being insulated and doubling as a cup is a fantastic idea, but I found it a tad more tedious than convenient during my first few times. Additionally, while the bottle's sturdiness won my heart, it unfortunately lacks a wider mouth, which might make it a bit more practical for my soup-loving, chunky ingredients cravings. The Stanley's performance has made me believe it's not just about the product but also about the spirit of adventure it represents - one sip at a time. Despite a few minor quirks, it's a reliable bottle worth every penny spent. https://preview.redd.it/xxibmox74r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6584f5a3f92b026e1f6c93d8578b4827c47490b6 Crafted in the image of the infamous Darth Vader, this Corkcicle Star Wars canteen is not just a stylish way to keep your drinks cool. The 16-ounce canteen promises to keep beverages cold for up to 25 hours or warm for 12, all thanks to its triple-insulated lining. Its stainless steel construction ensures it's not just durable but also perfect to use in any setting, be it by the pool or at the office. The canteen is equipped with a screw-on cap that prevents any liquid from escaping and keeps the temperature consistent inside. The ergonomic design and flat sides make it easy to grip, and its stay-put silicone base ensures it stays securely in your hand, avoiding any spills. My experience with this canteen has been nothing but stellar. The Star Wars design is not just aesthetically pleasing but also adds a fun touch to my everyday life. The triple-insulation keeps my beverages at their desired temperature for longer, especially during our hot summers. The cap is a great feature that prevents leaks and spills, and the ergonomic design makes it comfortable to hold. However, I wish the product was dishwasher safe as the paint tends to peel off after a few uses, which can be a bit disappointing. https://preview.redd.it/v6nom9a84r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47b008d8785f16fed2eb4304d81b2404921a0708 I recently tried the Step Steel St Goal Blacksteel CCM Replacement Steel - Pair, and I was blown away by its performance. The superior edge quality is evident as it slices through the ice with minimal resistance, providing sharp, fluid movements that make it a game-changer for any goalie. Designed specifically for CCM 2-Bolt Goalie Cowlings, this complete set comes with both left and right runners, ensuring perfect fit and seamless functionality. Made in Canada, the high-quality craftsmanship is evident in every aspect of the blade, from its sleek design to its exceptional edge durability. While the hardest possible edge offered by Step Steel Black is undoubtedly impressive, I also appreciate the added Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating on the mirror side finish, which significantly boosts blade performance by generating a winning combination of low friction and high surface hardness. What sets Step Steel apart from other blade manufacturers is their innovative aspect ratio, which accelerates pushes across the crease for modern butterfly and hybrid goaltenders. The taller blades and truer profile offer added stability, precision, and width, ensuring less bending or improper sizing upon receiving the product. Overall, the Step Steel St Goal Blacksteel CCM Replacement Steel - Pair is a game-changing product that combines superior edge quality, innovative design, and unrivaled performance. If you're looking to enhance your goaltending experience, look no further than Step Steel. Buyer's Guide Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the Cold Steel Smatchet. 2024.05.21 11:49 purin--purin [Ramble] My experience being a "true alcoholic."
I got hospitalised 4 times in the span of 5 months. I was vomiting blood ranging from 1 day to 3 days straight before going to hospital. I'm apparently prediabetic, "have the liver of a 60 year old" at 21 (I'm an ex-drug addict as well) and suspect I have neuropathy. Totalled 1 car, a DUI and I've also got a bunch of scars and nerve damage in some of my fingers due to being so sloshed I accidentally injured myself. My withdraws got so severe my body wouldn't take the oxygen I was breathing, my throat would close up, and my limbs would curl up and lock due to the lack of oxygen. it would last upwards of 30 minutes. My 2nd to most recent hospitalisation I was so ill they had to put an IV in my neck (aka means super serious) and I was on deaths door. Cold to the touch, grey, weak, hardly breathing and in a lot of pain. To add onto that, my ex-boyfriend didn't even help me in. He threw me out of the car 2 rows away from the ER entrance. Since i couldnt walk or barely do anything, I called 911 to tell them i needed to be wheeled in. They could barely understand me because I could hardly speak. I've since moved back in with my parents and still drink but not like how I did. I never even considered alcohol withdrawals being a thing despite my history in illicit drug use. I never saw myself as an alcoholic despite my entire family all being severe and mean drunks. My dad drinks actively in front of me and I stay unbothered and its only been 3 weeks since I moved back in. I can go to a restaurant and have just one beer. I don't know why I let myself drink like that. I met that ex a little over a year ago and he was a severe alcoholic. Compounding with that was the fact I had just moved from a different state and I had been very lonely and depressed even before moving, coping with alcohol. I reached a breaking point way before the hospitalisations (last one was March 17) but I got so used to the routine I didnt care I guess. Didn't mind dying because I put myself in another mess being with this guy. It was the only activity we actively enjoyed and could "share" together. We bonded over drugs and couldnt find a common ground and a 14 year age gap didn't help. Ishould've known better but I guess that's what happens when you meet a guy at a bar buying cocaine with your aunt and uncle. He took me into the bathroom, offered me a bump, and I snuck off to his hotel and lived with him since. Slept in my car and hotels for a couple months partying like crackheads. Eventually got an apartment and everything was really good in the beginning then we moved to a new apartment and it all spiralled worse.
Anways that's my story. I'm not sober but I'm not off the fUcking deeeeeeep end. I've had a few glasses of wine and beer. I live in walking distance of a liquor store and I don't really feel like going.
I just wanted to talk about this experience. Its similar to how I quit drugs except instead of giving myself the ultimatum he did it for me. He left me 7 hours from home at a hotel with nothing but the clothes on my back. I wasn't upset we were over I was only upset he took my stuff. I knew it was a mutually toxic relationship, both interpersonal and chemical romance. I figured after finally having a clear(er) mind that I wanted a sense of freedom? I love my parents but it's ass having to live with them. I've moved out 3 separate times as knee jerk reactions and this was just a rerun.
The amount of damage I've caused my body in the span of a year due to the severe amount of alcohol intake feels irreversible, especially because I had the extra disadvantage of being anorexic. I've never had health problems before despite it but alcohol is the most dangerous substance. I was a heavy drug user for 4 years and I never experienced the reaper looming over me before.

2024.05.21 11:44 molty_insides217 vent/ seeing other ppls pov from the outside
rant/vent
đI had pretyped this just ranting then I realized i can post it anonymously here bc iâm really struggling and would like some outside advice human to human feels like iâm gaslighting myself lol.

2024.05.21 11:40 AlbaMcAlba Rehoming 2 dogs
So my friend cared for my dog over the WE while I was overseas. On return he didnât respond to the buzzer or phone. Called police and he was found deceased.
I currently have both his dogs and my dog but itâs gonna be a short term thing as I simply canât care for 3 dogs. Tenement 2 up. If I could Iâd keep them as they are both lovers and well behaved.
The mother is about 12 and the son about 8. When I get permission Iâll advertise locally and Facebook.
My question is does anybody have experience with dog rehoming shelters in Glasgow the crucial part is no kill only. Also as theyâve been together all their lives be rehomed together which will be tricky with an older dog. Both are in good health and very active.
Looking at all options as I doubt his distant family will adopt.

2024.05.21 11:31 Toteldejesus How octogenarian Cecile Guidote-Alvarez rushed to the beauty salon to tackle West Philippine Sea
On a rainy Saturday afternoon not so long ago when internet connection was fluctuating in most homes, the 80-year-old Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, widow of the late Senator Heherson Alvarez, carrying a mini iPad, hurriedly alighted from a three-wheeled pedicab Toktok and stormed her way into a popular coffee shop in a mall in Manila.
A senior citizen in panic mode, she told the stunned baristas sheâs looking for a Wi-Fi connection because she was about to interview retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio via Zoom.
The coffee shop, a known world brand, has Wi-Fi exclusive to its employees, so the old lady was told to try other establishments. She went from one coffee shop to another only to be told the same, until a kind stranger led her to a well-known beauty salon with a free internet connection.
The lady salon attendant was very accommodating to the octogenarian, even typing the password on her IPad. Of course, she needed to avail herself of their salon services. Initially, she opted for a haircut, but since she needed to talk and hear clearly who she was talking to, she settled for a foot spa with pedicure.
âThey lowered the volume of the piped-in music, and since there were less customers because itâs been raining all day, I was able to do my interview,â Guidote-Alvarez said.
For the next half-an-hour, the hair dressers and manicurists working with their scissors, nail clippers and cuticle removers on their customersâ hair and fingernails, listened to Carpio and Guidote-Alvarez discussed how Filipino fishermen and the Philippine Navy ships helplessly negotiate their ways in Scarborough Shoal amid the territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
âThey were all very nice to me. I was able to finish my interview, with newly pedicured nails,â she told The Diarist.
For those whoâve worked with Guidote-Alvarez, her steadfast, almost stubborn, nature to accomplish a task, is nothing out of the ordinary. She would improvise, find alternatives, call up friends and former students, wake them up from sleep, just to get things done.
But now, in her 80s, legally blind and nearly deaf, she has mellowed down.
Cecile Alvarez with her mentors, National Artist for Literature Alejandro Roces, Jr and Fr. James Reuter. SJ
In her twilight years, Guidote-Alvarez has been solely hosting the 57-year-old
Radyo Balintataw on DZRH, one of the oldest radio stations in the Philippines, where she tackles a wide range of topics, from climate change, womenâs health, theater, culture, dance, to current issues, apart from playing old recordings of classic radio plays she produced and directed, dating back to the late â80s.
She shared with
TheDiarist.ph how she started and continues to host one of the longest running advocacy programs on AM Radio.
Theater on TV After founding the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) on April 7, 1967, or exactly 57 years ago, Guidote-Alvarez thought of the need to expose PETAâs members to television, so she started conceptualizing
Balintataw, which in Filipino means the pupil of the eye, but in a larger context has something to do with having wild imagination, or what you might see if you have a third eye.
âI designed
Balintataw as a bridge between cinema and the stage, where the youth being trained in theater skills can have a ready-made laboratory experience linked with the film and entertainment industry that would likewise have a natural on-the-job training and orientation regarding the theatrical discipline of working with a literary script, whether dramatic or comicânot the regular improvised script done on taping or copycat scripts from foreign themes,â Guidote-Alvarez wrote in her yet-to-be published
Memoir of a Freedom Fighterâs Wife. âA primary goal when I conceived PETA was to initiate and sustain artistic expression that draws meaning and power from the lives of the people, and sharing the literary gems with a greater number of audiences through a Broadcast Theater-Film Program with
Balintataw on Channel 5,â she added.
âNo matter how little the pay, at least it provided our local writers with a little honorarium. I sought permission for award-winning pieces of the Palanca Playwriting contest to be fleshed out to reach the masses. The much-awarded playwright Bert Florentino served as our literary manager, assisted by Mauro Avena. Eventually, Isagani Cruz took over when Bert left for the US,â she wrote.
âWriters need exposure and encouragement through a regular TV performance that will give them a sense of achievement and inspire them to keep on writing with some kind of honorarium. I was glad Lupita Aquino (now Kashiwahara) agreed to be TV director and Robert Arevalo as TV host.
She got members of the PETA Kalinangan Ensemble to serve as stage directors. âThis is to undertake preliminary preparation with a rehearsal with the actors for character development and memorization and preliminary staging,â she wrote.
Five months after PETA was founded,
Balintataw TV premiered on Channel 5 on Aug. 19, 1967, coinciding with the
Buwan ng Wika birthdate of President Manuel Luis Quezon.
The first play, whose title escapes her now, featured Armida Siguion-Reyna and Maria Eva âChingbeeâ Kalaw. She employed photo journalist and award-winning photographedocumentarist/cinematographer, Romy Vitug, to work with her in filming outdoor scenes for
Balintataw.
In the pre-Martial Law
Balintataw, among those initiated into television were Lino Brocka, Elwood Perez, Nick Lizaso, Maryo delos Reyes, Mario OâHara, Joey Gosiengfiao, Behn Cervantes, and Frank Rivera.
Among the stage actors who crossed over to television were Lily Gamboa, Angie Ferro, Lorlie Villanueva, Jonee Gamboa, Joy Soler, Sherry Lara, Gardy Labad, Noel Trinidad.
Like with PETA, Guidote-Alvarez directed and managed
Balintataw for five years. Because of Martial Law, she and husband Heherson went on exile in the US to escape a military shoot-to-kill order on Heherson, who was tagged as a subversive.
Post-Martial Law Internationally acclaimed auteur Lav Diaz mentioned in several interviews how he learned writing radio and TV scripts in
Balintataw.
This happened in the late 1980s, when the Alvarez couple returned from exile.
Despite its absence on the air in the Martial Law years,
Balintataw was honored by Star Awards as among the 20 unforgettable outstanding broadcast programs in the Philippines.
âThis encouraged me to consider reviving
Balintataw on TV. Another blessing was a FAMAS award for having an important role in the development of cinema recognizing
Balintataw as a bridge for synergizing cinema with the stage, providing a pathway of entry of our PETA artists into film and for movie stars to consider enriching their experience by acting on the legitimate stage,â Guidote-Alvarez wrote.
Though she didnât return to PETA anymore because it had been surviving well and had its own set of officers led by Brocka, she just tapped some of its members for the return of
Balintataw.
For 14 years, the Alvarez couple lived in the US as political exiles, shown here during a Ninoy Aquino Movement meeting. Cecile revived Radyo Balintataw upon their return in the late 1980s.
Channel 4 stint âI arranged to revive
TV Balintataw on Channel 4 in 1989. We began with a drama about a rebel returnee, title escapes me now, but I clearly remember it was written by Lualhati Bautista and directed by Maryo de los Reyes. We also had a good story series on the hazing of Lenny Villa, an Aquila Legis Frat neophyte,â she wrote.
At the time, Heherson had been elected senator after having served as Agrarian Reform Minister and eventually Cabinet Secretary during the first year of the Cory Aquino Administration.
âWe were able to unravel the deadly hazing process from a fellow neophyte who broke the code of silence as we revealed graphically, acted the cruel process used. I had Jose Mari Avellana direct it. This presentation won all the awards. Lav Diaz was training with us and he started writing teleplays. We also had Nora Aunor in an adaptation of Bert Florentinoâs
The World Is An Apple, adapted by Frank Rivera, and I had Nick Lizaso direct.â
Emmy Awards Balintataw TV was selected as one of five soaps for social change recognized by Emmy Awards. The Philippines was one of five countries cited, with Mexico, India, Brazil and Kenya.
âThe nomination was made possible by the wonderful support from David Poindexter. It was a supreme honor for our country to be recognized in the Emmy Awards, to be cited among the five Third World countries using soap opera for social change.â
Poindexter was a Methodist minister and TV producer who founded the Population Communications International.
Surviving on radio âIn spite of the cry about how television can be deadening the minds of the people with copied themes with an eternal favorite love triangle story, there was really no funding for
Balintataw,â she wrote.
âSponsors would go naturally to the commercial stations where big stars were paid highly for the starring role.
Balintataw may have substance but we could not afford payment of bankable stars,â she added.
âFinancial stress forced me to drop TV and remain on radio because I didnât want to kill
Balintataw per se just because we didnât have funds.â
Creative classroom âWe have focused on
Balintataw as a creative classroom on the air. I was able to talk to Fred J. Elizalde of DZRH and the president of the network, Mr. Jun Nicdao,â she wrote.
In the â80s, the HIV/AIDS became a global epidemic and in the Philippines, the general populace was still clueless on how to deal with it.
âIn order to get funding, the first series I did was about the explosive news regarding AIDS in Asia. I got the DOH Secretary at the time, Dr. Juan Flavier, to act as himself, providing the data. It was easier to start off with an AIDS radio serial.
They did a minimum of 13 episodes to raise awareness about the disease.
âFrom then on, some of our television scripts we transformed into a radio version. DZRH provided us with our initial production staff, so we used some from the network and some of its resident artists and drama talents. Our time slots were changing but always coming after the long-running horror drama,
Gabi ng Lagim.
âWe worked on the themes of overseas workers, the drug problem, corruption, aside from portraying contemporary and literary classics serving as social commentaries,â she wrote.
Women playwrights âWe dramatized the works of noted women writers and playwrights like Estrella Alfon, Genoveva Edroza Matute and Marilou Jacob, who is distinguished in being a founding president of Womenâs Playwright International.
âApart from our PETA staple of writers, we involved young, upcoming and budding university and community theater groups.
âWe also had a lot of foreign plays, where we could feature theater festivals beyond borders. We could do Shakespeare, we could do Euripides but also the current playwrights in the Arab region we translated in our language.
âWe brought in Chinese contemporary plays, Malaysian, Indonesian and from other women writers from ASEAN member countries.â
Virtual history book âThe significance of
Balintataw is portrayed as a virtual history book on audio as it unveiled events in the country. Radio is fresh, instant and up-to date,â she added.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck,
Balintataw became Guidote-Alvarezâs outlet and therapy. Having lost her husband on the second month of the pandemic, a widow cocooned at home, she began hosting it six days a week, learning how to use an iPad and interviewing via Zoom.
The word âBalintatawâ has been associated with her name.
Visual artist and editorial cartoonist Benjie Lontoc in casual meeting told us how in his younger days, when AM Radio was a national past-time, he was surprised to hear a Filipino adaptation of
No Exit by Jean Paul-Sarte. This was when radio was airing soap, fantasy adventures targeting housewives and children.
Another was the airing of
Larawan as a radio play in the 1990s, with Guidote-Alvarez as the voice of Candida Marasigan.
Leopoldo Salcedo (left) as Manolo in a confrontation scene with Dante Rivero as Tony Javier in PETAâs 1968 âLarawanâ directed by Cecile Guidote-Alvarez. (Photo from PETA archives)
In the 1960s, she directed
Larawan, the first Filipino adaptation of Joaquinâs
A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino for PETAâs second season. It ran from December 1968 to January 1969 at the Raha Sulayman Theater at Fort Santiago in Intramural. In the cast were Rita Gomez (Candida), Lolita Rodriguez (Paula), Leopoldo Salcedo (Don Manolo) and Dante Rivero (Tony Javier).
Guidote-Alvarez has a funny recollection of the radio play. It was Nick Joaquin himself who told her years ago how his pedicurist suddenly started a conversation about
Larawan.
Joaquin was relaxing on the barberâs chair having a post-haircut pedicure and foot spa when the lady pedicurist asked him how the story would end. Joaquin was stunned because he didnât want to be known in the barber shop as Nick Joaquin the famous National Artist for Literature, but just a regular customer.
âHe told me he almost fell out from the chair. He was a very private person and the pedicurist recognized him as the playwright,â Guidote-Alvarez, laughing, told
TheDiarist.ph. When she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, she was given only three years to live. Itâs been more than two decades since then. She has also conquered COVID-19 twice.
Over and beyond her work in theater and various advocacies, Guidote-Alvarez is among the few surviving practitioners of AM Radio broadcasting.
The beauty salon incident wasnât a first for the octogenarian radio host. She occasionally went back there to interview guests and record her shows whenever Wi-Fi connections in her home fluctuated.
Despite all setbacks, man-made or otherwise, the steadfast Cecile Guidote-Alvarezâs voice continues to be heard in this mass media platform in an era that knows mainly Spotify. As Joaquin wrote, âto remember and to sing, that is her vocation.â
(Except Saturday, Radyo Balintataw airs daily on DZRH 666 Khz AM radio after âGabi ng Lagimâ, and live streamed on radio.org.ph. Some episodes have been uploaded on YouTube.) submitted by

2024.05.21 11:30 commonsense_sc Messy employment case, heading to tribunal, I have some questions.
Good morning all. I'm trying to litigate for myself in a process that appears to be ending up in an employment case. I'm in England.
Facts:
- I am owed a large % of my salary from April 2020 to June 2021. A cut that was incrued (or given) to the company to help the company I work for to carry on existing.
- At the time, I was told the salary cut would last for three months and therefore I was entitled to an uplift on equity from 3% to 6%. There was no value to this increase, I currently had no equity issued, and the Director then said he valued the share options at a certain amount.
- In between August 2020 and June 2021, there was no replacement value for my cut salary.
- I asked for the salary to be paid back on numerous occassions and was repeatedly told "by the end of the year". This culminated in a strongly worded email from me to Director late in 2023 asking when we would be able to agree a repayment.
- Two weeks later I was asked to leave the business for being "untrustworthy" and for being a "poor performer". I was offered a poor settlement offer and told that I wasn't owed anything from 2020/2021. (I have email evidence to suggest otherwise)
- Since then I have been harrassed and bullied, creating poor mental health, degredation of mood and increase in anxiety. I am being made to feel it is all my fault.
This has led to three periods of serious mental ill health.
I don't particularly want it to go to ET but have seen no other option. Director refuses to acknowledge the debt I am owed and treats my mental health with disregard. I'm now in therapy for it and feel the long-term consequences are severe.
Any advice?

2024.05.21 11:29 MisterTeapot Got called a meta-gamer for wanting to form the party
This is very light hearted and shouldn't be taken too seriously, it's just an anecdote with a question attached.
TL;DR: I want to form the party, which influenced how I played the game. I still have in-character reasons for wanting to do so, but I still got called a meta gamer. Was this really such a crime?
We just started a new campaign and we've been working out some small set-up kinks. A little while ago we had our third session (first "official" session). The whole session was basically one-on-one with the DM as our characters didn't really know each other yet.
Near the end of the session we were teleported to a small combat encounter where we all ran into each other again. We fight, we win, easy peasy. We had previously all seen each other in-character when we got messed up bad by some weird rats who stole our treasure, so my character suggested to have a conversation in an alley to see if they might be interested in going back there for some revenge and maybe get our money back.
Another character had the same idea, so I was on board. He wasn't offering any money for this quest, but the way I saw it the chance of getting the treasure back and maybe more was enough.
After a short talk it seemed to me like everyone was on board except one. The DM then makes a quest giver appear in the alley who gives us all the information to the rat hideout and offers payment to boot. DM then declares "cool, now you all have a reason to form a party for next session."
This felt a bit awkward to me, so I brought it up a few days later, saying that I felt that with a little more time for roleplay, we would've gone out to look for someone who could give us this info ourselves, instead of the quest giver coming to us.
He disagrees, saying it looked like we were floundering. Fair enough, he has much more experience than me with regards to ttrpgs in general. The RP was super clunky too since all players are fairly new to gaming like this.
After that he said he thought it was weird that my character was so eager to team up with strangers, cause I'm an edgy rogue. I said that it's been three sessions and I would like to form a party soon. So far it's only been combat and DM/PC 1-on-1.
He then said that that's meta gaming (negative tone) and I was a little surprised and also explained my character reasons for it, but the topic was quickly dismissed.
He's probably right when it comes to the floundering, especially considering one character was not up for going on the quest without prompting from the quest giver. I do believe they should've been more open to forming the party, because even with what little I know of them I can already come up with a few reasons for them to do so, but that doesn't matter.
I firmly believe that there are good and bad types of meta gaming. Meta gaming is just a player knowing more than their character. Knowing your character's health is technically speaking meta gaming. Mechanically, there is no difference playing with 1 HP or 35, but I'm still going to act differently in both situations.
My question is whether me wanting to form the party for out-of-character reasons is a bad form of meta gaming? It's going to happen anyway and I just want to be able to roleplay with my friends sooner.

2024.05.21 11:27 Confident-Welcome-74 The Ashlands is anti-player
Okay, here we go. Big rant incoming. This post is going to be extremely long and a bit whiny, but I would only write something like this because I really do love this game, and I am passionate about the decisions that go into game design & player experience. Feel free to skip to the TLDR. Obviously:
SPOILERS I'll start this off by saying that I have like 1000 hours in Valheim and I absolutely love the core aspects of the game. I also like to think of myself as a pretty skilled player compared to the average/target audience. I've done many Valheim playthroughs over the past few years, including a hardcore playthrough through Yagluth with no deaths, and a no-map/compass only playthrough. Even so, while the Ashlands as a biome felt "off" from even before the release, I generally blamed this on "skill issue", and figured progression would ameliorate some of the issues. After doing basically everything there is to do in the biome, I've come to the conclusion that it does not get better: the Ashlands gameplay loop is fundamentally anti-player experience. Here' why: Mob density and lava is anti-exploration: Valheim, at its core, is an adventure & exploration game. If you take out the exploration, you're left with a resource collection simulator with awkward movement and basic combat. Like the Mistlands before it, the Ashlands presents immediate barriers to exploration. To even set foot into the biome you need top tier gear from the previous biome and an industrial grade multi-biome farm producing all of the best foods and meads. However, while the Mistlands progression allows you to eventually overcome its barriers to exploration with the introduction of magic and new mechanical items (like the feather cape), the Ashlands never gets any less hostile. There are no lava-immunity boots, no anti-spawning beacons, no nothing. You just get a pretty okay gear upgrade, and a big fuck you. In fact, because of the unrelenting charred hordes, Valkyries, and marathon-running Asksvins, you're actually punished for exploring too far from your steadfast. The only reasonable way to map the biome is by sprinting in Fenris armor with an Asksvin cape and Moder, which fundamentally destroys the immersion of the exploration anyways. After all this time in the biome, I've explored less than a half of a single of the Ashlands continents in my world. And why should I? What do I even gain from it? This leads me into my next big problem: The Ashlands is unrewarding: To invest such tremendous effort into a biome there needs to be an equally tremendous reward. Spoiler: there isn't! You can expect to die a LOT in the biome, meaning your hard-earned skills are going to wither away, making you substantially weaker overall. What are you offered in return for this? Not much! The new heavy armor is the standard upgrade, extremely expensive, and generally slow. The Asksvin hide and magic armor sets are definitely not worse than the previous armor sets, but they don't really feel that much better. A couple of the weapons were interesting... but again, not enough to offset the pain. The Ashlands really doesn't reward players for dealing with all of its bullshit. It's totally isolated, not very visually appealing, hostile from start to finish, and doesn't really introduce or accelerate any of the out-of-biome mechanics like previous biomes do (farming, sailing, new cooking stations, new crafting stations, fall damage negation, etc). By far the most interesting thing you acquire in the Ashlands is a staff that sacrifices half your health to spawn a charred troll, and they aren't even allowed to be on your team!!! The whole war-zone aesthetic would be tolerable if the biome just didn't take so damn long to finish. Like seriously, because all of the limited visibility and constant mob clearing it's extremely slow to even locate the things you need to do, never-the-less even do them! At this point, I kind of think of the Ashlands as a chore you must complete to progress beyond it. That is fundamentally not a fun thing to do, and I believe the vast majority of players will not make it to the deep north for this exact reason. Which brings me to the biggest problem. The Ashlands does not understand what makes difficulty fun: According to the devs, the biome is hard. Really hard, actually. They seemed extremely proud of making a biome that would really give the players a true run for their money! Naturally, I was extremely excited! Unfortunately, the Ashlands is not hard because of new strategic or mechanical learning curves, it is hard because it is clumsy. Flametal mining is contrived and hostile. The pillars are a pain to climb with the game's terrible collision. Have you ever been crushed between the underside of a sinking flametal vein and your basalt bomb platform? 'Cus I have! Even worse, every time I actually whack a Flametal pillar (which by the way, wants to kill me even more than the monsters do) I'm personally inviting every entity in a 10 mile radius to form a mosh pit right below me. Grapevine harvesting and planting is too slow. They take forever to find, even longer to grow, and cant even be planted in their natural biome without a shield generator? (What's up with that by the way?) I will admit that I love the way they look and depending on where you land you might get lucky and find them early, in which case this point is pretty moot. In my case, I had fully upgraded gear and had already cleared a fortress before I even found my first Vineberry. Fortress "sieging", as the devs would like to call it, is kind of... useless? The siege weapons are clumsy and ineffective, and are immediately secondary to the brute force method of building a wooden staircase and bombarding the inside with fireballs until everything in it is dead. By the time you even reach a fortress, the relentless mob clearing just to get there has sucked all the fun out of the would-be battle anyway. (By the way, who though that it would be a good idea to make the only unique fortress mob a necromancer that summons even more of the most annoying mob in the entire biome?? Hurray, yet another swarm of reskinned, stat-boosted greydwarves!) Honestly, I wouldn't even call the biome "hard". I would just call it painful. Things that are hard are generally things you can get better at. I don't think it particularly fits this category. Lingering questions: While there are many things I like about the biome as a concept, I don't know if there is a single mechanic in the Ashlands that I actually think is well-designed. Now that I'm basically done with the biome, I look back and ask myself a number of questions about things I encountered. Were these really fun? or were they just tedious. I'll let you decide: - Why is the only ship you can take through the spires so difficult to steer? If you want it to feel large and heavy, that's fine... but then why do spires spawn so densely that it constantly gets beached?
- Why do basalt bomb platforms only last for like 30 seconds? If you want them to not permanently mark the landscape, why not make them last at least long enough for players to reuse them for approaching and escaping from the pillars? Why make the player interact with the admittedly funky aiming mechanics to throw more platforms as the pillar is sinking?
- Why can the charred and Asksvins go in the lava if you can't? They're not immune to fire damage from a staff, but they can wade through lava? Wouldn't it make more sense to encourage players to use the lava as a risky resting place? Something like, "go out into the lava with basalt bombs to escape the horde briefly, but make sure you don't slip!"? Maybe then, once the player has cleared a fortress and acquired their first set of lava-immunity potions (or boots or whatever), they will have an advantage over the horde in terms of mobility. You know, like in every single other biome?
- Why are there no lava-walking boots?
- Why do tamed Asksvins animals not have a "passive mode", or a "follow" command like wolves, or at least some kind of hitching post? If the idea of asksvins is to be able to ride over lava to pillars, why make them run away from the pillars and to their death the instant the player gets off of them?
- Why are there no lava-walking boots........?
- Why make the step heights on flametal ore pillars only convenient/resonable to climb when wearing the feather cape that is extremely weak to fire? Isn't the idea of the fire weakness to discourage its use in the Ashlands? If you know your movement & collision mechanics feel clunky, why design the pillars in such a way that scaling them is necessary to escape certain death?
- Boots in lava no walking on it why tho........?
- Why make the spawnrate for monsters so uniformly high? The combat is extremely simple, and these monsters do pretty substantial damage in melee. This leads to a boring and frustrating "swarming" experience, where players have to run from monsters, inevitably picking up more monsters on the way. Couldn't you fix this by just have areas of extreme monster density like in every other biome which can be "cleared". Doesn't this work better with the power-up based combat your entire system is based off of? Doesn't this also double as another reason to actually explore in the Ashlands, as when players clear one area, they need to continue on to the next?
- If you want a new paradigm where defeating the horde isn't enough to "clear" an area, wouldn't you at least want to counteract this with some new mechanic that spawn-proofs/suppresses large areas? Or maybe a set of armor that reduces player-made sounds? Why doesn't that exist?
- Why not reward the player with outside-the-biome progression? Why not use this as the reason to go to the Ashlands in the first place? Teleporting metals is an obvious great example, but it feels like it was an afterthought made late in development so that the Ashlands would be even remotely tolerable, given that it's a nightmare to sail to. With an entire community full of dedicated players who love the game proposing extremely popular changes all the time... why not use some of those? (shield generators could also repair builds! Redbeard Dvegrs could offer unique item trading! New cores & metal could somehow accelerate or automate farming! Any of the above...)
TLDR: After finishing the Ashlands I struggle to see why so many design decisions were made that make the biome so relentless, tedious, and anti-exploration. It's like they took all of the experiences and mechanics that people love about the game and replaced them with all of the ones people find painful and annoying. It is extremely disappointing, and will prevent most players from finishing the game, or even the biome itself.

2024.05.21 11:23 placeholder-123 Question about self-interest and government regulation. Do consumers really always act in their own self-interest?
I was watching a video this morning from a YouTube channel called EconClips. It was about price systems :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xem0BPe3MNU&t=334s I won't explain it here as this would make things quite long. The point made, as you can expect, is that regulations are bad, free market is good and non-intervention is great. They specifically explained this point using an analogy with innovative vs less innovative farmers.
The implicit assumption in this video is that consumers always act in their best self interest, and in so doing encourage producers from producing more or better, thus lowering prices and/or increasing quality.
The reasoning is of course sound if the axiom "consumers always act in their best self interest" is true. Everybody wants increasing quality, lower prices, more innovative techniques, etc.
But as much as I like austrian economics, ie sound money, free enterprise, etc... I am a bit skeptical of this idea that consumers always act in their best self interest.
Let's take a similar example to the video with farmers.
A group of farmers decide to use chemicals that are very efficient and greatly increase their yield. They can thus lower their prices and flood the market with their cheap cereals. Now the issue is that those chemicals are extremely harmful to humans, but the effects when ingested in small quantities only appears over a long time. The timeframe is still just enough that this is remains a health hazard, meaning you get sick before reaching your average lifespan.
I am doubtful whether consumers, even if made aware (perfect information) of the nature of the products, would prefer buying the more expensive cereals. After all, there is a market for cigarettes and drugs.
What then is the government to do? Spread more awareness through media and propaganda? Directly step in?
I know that those who are libertarians on top of being austrians will tell me that after all, the state has no business telling people what to do with their lives. If they want to poison themselves with cheap cereals, that's their informed decision.
It is also a philosophical dilemma: what is, what determines a consumer's best interest? I do not believe the consumer himself is 100% of the time equipped with the tools to carefully ponder his options nor is he always conscious of his own self interest.
Are experts better suited then? That's pretty much what we have in our societies right now, ie bureaucratic regulations. But bureaucrats can be lobbied and although their job is supposedly to care for the collective, they are corruptible human beings and their interests do not necessarily align with consumers.
Thoughts and opinions?

2024.05.21 11:22 XVICOLE Feels defeated but guilty about wanting to leave a startup... that just started.
I (30F) was asked to join a startup with Founder A (68M) and Founder B (55M) to lead/assist with R&D works and production. Together, Founder A and B hold 90% of the shares while also having full-time jobs outside of this startup. I was given 10% shares while drawing a salary from this startup. For context, Founder A used to be my ex-boss; Founder A and B are friends.
Six months in, and I have made some observations:
- Founder A and B each invested capital into the startup to justify allocating 45% shares to themselves. But I recently found out about directors' fees and that they want to use these fees to reimburse their initial investment capital. I felt cheated because this was something I wasn't aware of.
- Founder A and B only get along well on the surface and are not transparent with each other about their real viewpoints and thoughts.
- Founder B spends more time on his full-time job and recently delegated his tasks to me.
- Founder A is disappointed about Founder B's poor work performance but refuses to voice his concerns directly to him.
- Founder A has plans of closing the startup after fulfilling our current 2 years service contract but does not wish for Founder B to find out because he wants to end things on a good note and remain friends.
- Founder A wishes for me to complete the service contract and I am not allowed to share this with Founder B. He asked me to cooperate for things to "end positively".
Personally, I feel that founders should be working closely with each other. With such observations, I find it challenging to work in this environment. My mental health has also not been the best during this period. Because of my past history with Founder A, I informed him about the possibility of resigning because I don't feel happy working here and the lack of transparency among founders. His response was, "running away isn't necessarily the solution. There are way worse people outside."
I feel defeated. I feel tired. Any advice or stories on any aspect of this would be appreciated. I guess I just want to feel less alone. Adulting is tough!

Hi , so few months ago I had removed my mole via CO2 laser treatment. The marks were invisible for initial few days but over last few months I could see the hyperpigmentation in that area. I wanted to know if dermatologists at Max health care are good or not? Also ,is there any other skin care center where I could get scar reduction treatment at affordable price. Thanks!!
