Hey everyone! I've never made a post on reddit before so bear with me friends. This is also gonna be long because I physically cannot restrain myself from overexplaining.
Ok, SO me (24F) and my guy best friend (25M) have known each other since about sophomore year of college. Let's call him Tony alright. I met him through my college roommate and best friend, we'll call her Tina (Tony is Tina's cousin's husband's best friend). He went to a different college in a city about 2 1/2 hours away, but he came and hung out with his friend a lot and he lived with them during COVID. I'm a pretty socially awkward and shy person so it takes me a while to get comfortable around someone and be myself so I didn't really engage with him at first. It should also be mentioned, I've never been in a relationship or in love befoe; I've been on dates and done a thing or two here and there with some people, but I've always been shy so I'm kind of a late bloomer in the relationship aspect. He is not and he's been in relationships before and has experience doing the horizontal tango; an activity I do not have experience in!
Fast forward, tail end of junior year or beginning of senior year of college we start actually interacting and I open up a bit more. I then develop a small "schoolgirl" kinda type crush because he was a new friend and funny and nice, and I never really had any guy friends growing up so it was new to me and you know the daddy issues of it all. Ok so BOOM spring break senior year right (March 2022), we go on a vacation to NOLA with our friend group. My crush is in full swing at this point and during said trip, my bff Tina and I share a hotel room with Tony and his best friend Ted (sharing bc we are poor). So we get a lot of quality time and get a lot closer as friends. Skip to May 2022, we graduate college and my BFF Tina moves to the bigger city in the state we live in (where he lives) in June (we went to college in a small town). So, naturally I go to the city a lot to visit her and so in turn we start hanging with him more frequently since he's closer now. At this point, I'm over my crush and he's just my really good friend (I promise). Fast forward to December 2022, I move to the city as well and my bff Tina and I move in together so we see him even more, and he's spending nights at our place (on the couch). We get a lot closer and the main thing we do in our friendship is talk. He's a level 100 yapper, and I didn't used to be at all until we became friends honestly, but he just brings out the yap in me. We talk about anything and everything; we even argue about a variety of topics, but it's not with malice or rudeness at all; we're just talking. He's just genuinely the easiest person to talk to I've ever met; strangers just talk to him all the time.
So now we're gonna jump to December of 2023 (sorry for the jumping around, I'm an ADHD warrior). I've had mental health issues off and on since high school, but they got worse around this time. Around this same time, he started getting depressed as well as a few months prior he had been fired from a job and his car got towed amongst other things. My BFF is also going through it.We are all just going through some trials and tribulations lemme tell ya. So, we've all been leaning on each other emotionally pretty heavily lately. Recently, he spends multiple days in a row at our house. So, I've been working through the prior mentioned mental health issues these past months and I'm think I'm finally coming out the other side. I've actually been the happiest I've been in a very long time, but I'm also still struggling a bit because I feel as though my personality has changed drastically since this ordeal or maybe I'm finally feeling secure enough in myself to show my true personality idk, but in a nutshell I'm feeling open and brave which are qualities I don't have experience in whatsoever. As I'm finding myself, I think I'm also becoming more in touch with my feelings which is how I realized I had feelings for him, but anyways back to the nitty gritty. So I'm feeling all these new feelings and all, and my crush on Tony comes back with a terrible new twist: 100% real uncut feelings 😔. But, I am terrible at reading social cues and understanding other people's feelings so I genuinely can't tell if he feels the same or not. But, ever since I've realized my feelings, I've been noticing things more. Me, Tina, and Tony have always been very open with each other in the sense that we talk about anything and everything. We talk about sex, relationships, our bodies, etc. But, lately, I feel like him and I talk even more about sex and relationships and he makes more jokes or funny remarks about sexual or romantic things between us. To be fair, I have too (😝), so it may just be in response, but come on, it's to the point like, we jokin anymore?? So, the other day, I was joking about how I was gonna be a virgin at 40, and he said, "Nah, we'll figure something out before then." like what you mean by that?? And another time, we were riding in the backseat together, and the whole car was talking about eating a girl's kitty cat and I had made a joke about not knowing the feeling and he said, "What?? That's so sad bro" and then under his breath said, "we'll have to do something about it" like huh???? And I also have this crop top with butterflies on it that may be a lil revealing (🙈) that he complimented when he first saw me wear it. And now, whenever I wear it, he'll say something about it like, "Ohhh, return of the shirt" or something along those lines. Also a while back, I had told him about how my late grandpa would always sneak me Ho-Hos as a kid and how I missed him a lot, and in the next few days, he brought some over when he came to hang out like brooo 😩. He didn't say that was the reason or anything, but that would be a crazy coincidence I feel. He's also always showing me something on his phone like a video he thought was funny, a movie he liked, pop culture we talk about, music he likes, etc. He'll just appear in front of me with his phone 2.3 cm from my face saying, "look 👁👄👁". Also, we've both been talking a lot lately about how lonely we are and how we miss sleeping and cuddling with another person in the bed. I feel like I've been dropping hints, but I'm also scared to tip him off so the hints I think I'm dropping could be more like office friendly chit-chat in reality!
It should also be noted that after I got over my initial crush, I didn't find him attractive. I really didn't find him attractive when I had a crush tbh. He's definitely not my usual type at all; I'm a fat bi girl who usually goes for masc women or feminine men and he's a short skinny lil fella with a permed mullet 😭. I'm definitely not his usual type either which is another reason I have doubts about his interest in me. He usually dates skinnier girls. I'm finally okay with my body, but if you're a fat person, you know how absolutely anxiety-inducing it is thinking about shooting your shot and someone rejecting you because of your body. I don't think he would do that, but there's still that fear there. He's also mentioned recently how he doesn't care about looks and body and I'm like 🤨 you hinting at something?? Cause I've talked to him before about struggling with loving my body so he knows im self-conscious about it at times. I'm also hesitant because besides Tina, he's my best friend in the world. I would never want to do anything to jeopardize that friendship. I've been trying to get over it and/or ignore it. But, God, idk what to do anymore. It's driving me insane, and I hate that I'm looking for things and reading into things. And I feel like I'm acting weird or changing my behavior which sucks cause it's hard to control cause I'm nervous. But, I really don't think it's all in my head. I don't even know if I want to pursue anything and change our relationship forever, but I feel like I'm going crazy. If anyone has any insight or advice, it would be much appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

For those who know, Pixel 5 is a great phone. And Pixel 8 is just like Pixel 5. They're basically exactly the same thing.
The only real reason to upgrade is to keep current software security updates, and blame Qualcomm for that. They apparantly stop providing firmware updates after so many years.
So the Pixel 8 has no Qualcomm hardware, so it now has 7 years of software updates.
The Pixel 8 has marginally upgraded camera hardware, in some ways. In some ways I actually prefer the older Sony sensor.
Both displays tint towards green when overclocked past 60Hz, because neither have ltpo. Kind of a bummer. A Pixel 8 with ltpo would have been an actual upgrade over Pixel 5, like the Galaxy s24 devices have. I mean... as it sits now it's kind of like a cross between an iPhone 15 and a 15 Pro because it can shoot RAW and it has high refreshrate options available, but you shouldn't use it except with higher screen brightness settings where there's little to no green tinting -- that's how the Pixel 4xl came from the factory, and actually I think that device got a lot of things right in general/overall.
60Hz below 50% brightness, 90Hz above 50% brightness, AmbientEQ, 500nits peak brightness with a 650nit high brightness mode in high ambient light. Optical telephoto system with good natural hardware bokeh. It was all a really good set up, though minimum brightness on it was too bright even though it tone mapped shadows darker at minimum brightness. And AmbientEQ didn't go warm enough. Face unlock also made my face tingle and gave me floaters in my eyes, I think their IR blaster was set to too strong of an intensity or frequency idk. Anyway.
Pixel 8 and Pixel 5 get similar battery life and have similar displays, similar cameras, similar designs -- they're basically the same phone. I think Google wanted to use Tensor in Pixel 5 but ran out of time. Then I think they got sued by Apple for using rounded corners. That's how we got square Pixel 6 and 7. I think Pixel 8 is just Google getting back to where they want to be/recovering from the fallout of the lawsuits and the Tensor G1 and G2 failures, overheating and bugs and all that.
So yeah, that's Pixel 8. It's no better than a Pixel 5, but Pixel 5 was one of Google's best devices ever made so that means Pixel 8 will probably go down with a similar legacy. And the 8a as well -- same vibes as the Pixel 5a/4a 5g/4a. So that one is bound to be good as well.
My advice for Pixel 8? Keep it in 60Hz mode with Smooth Display off. The color accuracy is better and it'll help you fall asleep easier at night with less green light as well. The cameras are as good as ever, I recommend using Google Photos to edit shots because Adobe Lightroom ruins the Pixel-shifted fullRGB color info you get in the Google ecosystem and pipeline. Speaking of which, best to shoot at 1.2x instead of 1x to activate pixel shifted colors and super res zoom. I shoot in Raw + Jpeg to be able to get both an UltraHDR version and a SDR version of the same image by converting RAWs to Jpegs for editing in Google Photos -- keeps all the color info and Pixel Processing, just spits out an SDR jpeg version of the Raw file to go along withthe UltraHDR version. It's great. Gives you 3 copies of every image for lots of creative discretion for Instagram. Some shots I prefer the UltraHDR versions, some I strongly prefer an SDR version of the same image. I find shooting with UltraHDR always enabled produces better quality Raws to use to produce SDR versions of as jpegs in Google Photos. I also don't care much for the blue white balance on the default auto mode of the camera. Fortunately you can manually adjust it while shooting, but sometimes you don't have time to do that and thankfully Google Photos can totally handle it in post editing. No problem to warm up a photo there.
The one major camera complaint I have for this device that seriously bothers me and annoys me is a lack of a manual focus control for creative control over how final images look. Sometimes I want to intentionally blur the entire photo uniformly, subject and background, to create a dreamy look. And I do this on cameras that allow it. Google Photos allows adding blur to parts of an image in post editing, but does not allow bluring the entire image uniformly for creative effect -- and that's something either Google Photos should add as a feature to post editing, or something that needs to be added into the camera app for manual focus control natively.
Some 3rd party camera apps do allow manual focus, to great effect, but the problem is they don't have super res zoom color science processing going on. And pixel shifted color is the main feature of this camera that I love and adore so much, that I don't like using 3rd party camera apps. And I shouldn't have to use 3rd party apps to get manual focus. So that's my main complaint with Pixel 8 after using it for a month. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I wish it had ltpo, but only if it didn't raise the price because I wouldn't be willing to pay more for it. I just think it should have it as a minimum standard in 2024. But 60Hz is "okay" it is just a small let down being that it's basically no better than Pixel 5, which came out in 2018. To be fair, Pixel 5 was ahead of its time, but, it's not clear that Pixel 8 is. That's Pixel 8. It's good, but it's not revolutionary anymore.

Hi so I got a sound bar recently and have plugged it into my LG B3 OLED. I also have my PC plugged in with a HDMI 2.1 and use as an extended display for playing PC games with a controller.
I use the HDMI the soundbar came with and have plugged that into the ARC slot. I also use a display port for my PC however I don't know what version this is. My GPU has 1x HDMI and 3x Displayport so I dedicate the HDMI solely to the TV.
When the soundbar is plugged in into the ARC slot it seems OK at first but jumping into a game there will be a black screen at unpredictable times that last about a second but happen frequently maybe every 20 or so seconds.
Without the soundbar things seem to be running fine but sometimes when setting the monitor and tv to be extended displays everything goes black with no TV signal and I have to disconnect cables and restart pc to get the monitor screen working again.
Longest cable used is 2m and is a 2.1 however I've ordered 1x 2.1 display port cable and 2 x 2.1 3m HDMI cables as I'm thinking Im needing faster cable transfer (both cables support ultra high speeds at 80 gbps and 48 gbps respectively)
Everything is being run with correct refresh rates (TV supports 4k 120hz and monitor 1440p 144hz)
I'm going to try with the new cables tonight but just curious what the issue could be?

I started this show the other day and absolutely loved it. What a thrilling sci-fi with real attention to scientific and historical detail, as well as memorable characters—a rare combination. After shows like Man in the High Castle, Person of Interest and Travelers, I’d missed this kind of television. I watched all of S1 in a single weekend.
Then I started S2 and it’s… different.

• There’s like 10 astronauts on the Moon now, and they just dick around singing and lining up single-file by the crater.
• Shane Baldwin died but is totally forgotten.
• The Baldwins’ daughter came out of nowhere.
• There’s a weird three-way drama between Tracy, Sam and Gordo that I don’t care for.
• I expected Aleida to pressure Margo into letting her move in, but turns out Aleida disappeared and is an asshole now?
• And all that stuff with the captured cosmonaut in the S1 finale. That should be a huge deal, yet he’s just gone now?

As early as the first episode of S2, I noticed something was off when Ed gave his ham-handed plot expose to the astronaut candidate. And when Margo said “It’s traveling at 30% speed of light. Which is really freaking fast.” Like come on, everyone in mission control should already know that!
I loved S1 for its creative vision, care for its characters, and trust in its audience not to need things dumbed down.
S2 feels nothing like that. Instead it feels like a Shondaland clone—an attractive ensemble in [insert setting] with endless drama and soapy dialogues, and the occasional [insert cool scene] thrown in to remind us of the setting.
So far it’s such a disappointment coming from S1. I saw there’s 4 seasons of this, with a fifth to come. Does it get better?

Hello Irishpersonalfinance. I have a quandary and don't really have any other avenues to go for for advice.
My partner and I have inherited a house which we are living in. It's finished to a high standard but is already starting to feel crowded with our children. An opportunity arose to purchase a house which is 15 minutes away and ticks all our boxes.
The new place needs work but once finished would be our forever home. It's in a perfect location for us and has been on our dream location since we were teens. Our options are either:

1. to sell our current home, which would more than cover the purchase of the new house and we would need an additonal 100k to cover renovations to the new place + whatever rent we would need for the time between selling and moving in to a renovated place. Or alternatively dip into our savings to cover renovations + rent. Result is 1 house, small mortgage.
   
2. To take a larger mortgage out which we would combine with our savings to purchase the new house outright, continue to live in our current house while it's being done up. Holding on to a rainy day fund to keep us secure for a few months if needs be. Result is 2 houses, large mortgage which is covered by the rent from property 1.
   

I'm leaning towards option 2 but I don't know how sound an idea is. Our household salary is good, combined just above 100k and we expect that to jump by 20k when my partner completes a course they have been working on for the past while, realistically in September.
Our current house is in an Irish city and realistically will be easy to rent. Even with a reasonable (not planning to gouge anybody) rent we could cover the mortgage of the new place.
Is there a fast and quick rule to follow? On paper it seems that if we can cover our mortgage with rent and end up with two assets that's the logical thing to do with the current tax laws. Is it crazy to burn our savings on our dream home? Financially, should we try to make our savings work for us through investments + ETFs rather than becoming landlords and just sell our current house? We're first time buyers if that helps and ultimately we'll need to move in the coming 3 years. We've already gone sale agreed on 2 other places which fell through so I'm interested in pushing this along.
