I love camping and would like to try wild camping to prepare for the west highland way. I find campsites increasingly becoming too noisy with people playing their club anthem music loudly. And its also becoming very expensive.
I was thinking maybe at galloway forest park in Scotland as its a hidden gem, so more quieter there and no chance of getting moved on, but don't it's a 4 hour drive.
I will be doing it solo and looking for spot recommendations for end of July. Somewhere in the Lake district where I'm not at risk of getting moved on and also close enough to my car so that I can bail if I get scared. Somewhere easy where i can build confidence. I will also be doing this on a weekend. Or it worth booking a day off work for a quiter weekday.
Also open to other national parks in the UK.

Should I get the house or is there any other way ? Honestly I'm looking for a way to get out of this situation.

Not sure if this is the right place, apologies if not.
My car was tower into a dealer and they provided a diagnostic, I have decided not to go through with the repairs. I asked them to put the car back together as is was went it arrived. They had removed bumper and bonnet.
They told me it has been done and ready for collection once invoice has been paid.
Upon invoice was 'video recording of diagnostic' I asked them if I can have the recording, to which they tell me that it wasn't recored as they don't have that at this site yet. Fair enough.
I asked them please provide pictures and possibly a video so I can see the condition of the vehicle before paying the invoice and ordering tow truck. They told me that they can only give me pictures when it is on the tow to see the condition.
I have told them I have the right to see the condition of my vehicle, and I Will come on site to check.
What can I do here? Clearly they are hiding something?
It's a main dealer, and I think they damaged parts and obviously do not want to pay.
What are my rights here? I am in the UK.

I was having a browse of the news today and the outcomes of the infected blood scandal when I saw this and wondered what everyone else thought.
These bits really grabbed my eye:
At his wife's insistence, Mr Mackinlay was transported from his local hospital in Medway, Kent, to St Thomas' in central London, directly opposite his workplace, the Houses of Parliament.
Like his new legs, his hands were originally provided by the NHS, but he has since gone outside the NHS for new hands, likening the original prosthetic hands he was given to "something out of medieval times".
We really do seem to live in a banana republic these days. I can't see how it will get any better, but I think the general public won't even notice this story let alone realise an MP's relative forced his treatment to be moved from an underperforming DGH to the wealthiest and highest performing trust in the country.
I get complaints from relatives when we can't even provide a wheelchair to transport a discharged patient to the car park...
Thoughts in general/Anyone else think this sort of thing would be done for non-celebrity patients?

So, I've been living in the UK since 2022, got my full UK driving license in June 2023, and I've also had an Indian driving license since 2012. Here's the deal: my car insurance premium just skyrocketed by a whopping 77%!
Quick rundown: - I work full-time for a major multinational Internet company. - Driving a 2016 BMW 2 series (216d) with a clean record, no claims whatsoever.
But despite all this, my insurance premium shot up. Can anyone help me figure out why? And more importantly, any tips on how to slash this hefty premium down?

I live in the UK and received a speeding ticket through the post on 04/05/24 from a trip to Italy in June 23 where I was travelling 17km/h over the speeding limit in a rented car.
The letter states that if the fine is paid within five days of the date on the letter (18/04/24), it is only €184. However, as that time is now passed it has now increased to €254. I've contacted the attached email address on the day I received it asking if I would be able to pay the original amount as it wasn't in my possession for at least 3 weeks after that however they've basically said tough luck, pay it.
I know i'm in the wrong for speeding but €254 is an eye watering amount for going 17km/h over the limit and seems wrong no?

About a year and a half ago I purchased a certified pre-owned 2017 Golf Alltrack SE from a VW dealer in MA. The Carfax report mentioned that the transmission had been replaced about 2k miles before it was listed for sale. When I asked the dealer for more info, the only info that they gave me was that the transmission was replaced and that was the end of that.
Fast forward a bit, I have had to take the car to my local dealer in VT multiple times for DSG leaks. At this point, the following has had to be done in the time that I have owned the car:

• DSG Side covers
  
• DSG Pan Gasket
  
• DSG Filter Gasket (2x)
  
• DSG Cooler lines (dealer would not cover under warranty even after stating that it was likely to be caused by a defective filter gasket causing incorrect fluid pressure, idk, did not make a ton of sense to me)
  

My local VW dealership in Vermont pointed out that the transmission that was installed was clearly used and likely pulled from a salvage vehicle and "technically should not have been considered a CPO car"
Is it acceptable for a "certified" car to be repaired with used parts? What is the criteria for a car to be considered "certified"? I understand that at the end of the day it is a used car regardless, but if the transmission needed to be replaced under the standard warranty, why would they install a used transmission?
I really love the car, but I only have a few thousand miles and a few months left on my CPO warranty and I am terribly afraid of being left with a money pit.

The Craig films were devoid of charm and humour

A video by my fellow moderator u/Sneaky_Bond shows many examples of the Craig era having humour and charm. The humour in Craig's films are more in the vein of Connery than Moore, being drier and more subtle. The comedy of Connery's last film and then Moore's are more blatant and the films take themselves much less seriously. That being said, Craig's last two films do incorporate more gags à la Moore like Bond falling from a crumbling floor to a couch in Spectre and No Time To Die's slapstick Cuba shootout.

Craig's films aren't Bond films and do not resemble the previous films, totally eschewing elements like exotic locales, beautiful women, fancy cars and clothing, diabolical villains, far-fetched world domination schemes, deadly henchmen with a gimmick, lavish opening title sequences, the roaring orchestral scores, the over-the-top action scenes, the beautiful girl who ends up betraying him, the needlessly complicated death-trap because apparently a bullet just won't suffice...

Again, Sneaky's video disproves the lack of personality and charm. Every Craig films had exotic locales, beautiful women, gadgets, fancy cars and clothing, diabolical villains, lavish opening title sequences, roaring orchestral scores, and over-the-top action scenes. The beautiful traitor, convoluted death-traps, far-feteched world domination schemes, deadly henchmen with gimmicks each appeared in at least one of the Craig films. They didn't always show up pre-Craig anyways.

Craig is not a real Bond, but a Jason Bourne clone

Craig's first two films did take a more grounded and intense approach like Bourne, but the franchise has always blended the elements of its contemporaries with the classic formula to stay relevant. More importantly, following the lead of Bourne and Batman Begins finally made harkening closer to the novels (again, thanks u/Sneaky_Bond) palatable for audiences who previously rejected entries like Dalton's. The novels aren't the end-be-it-all for what the franchise should be, but their influence cannot be overstated, and Eon has said as much. The six sixties films represent the golden age for the franchise, and five of them were direct adaptations of the novels. The franchise has swung the pendulum between lighthearted fantasy (which increasingly departed from the source material with films like Guy Hamilton and Lewis Gilbert's) and more serious grounded fare (like John Glen's films), and, even putting aside the novels, there are precedence for what the Craig films did in previous films.

Craig's Bond enjoys killing and is a serial abuser of women

It's made very clear that Craig's Bond dislikes killing, with him squirming when drowning Dryden's contact in Casino Royale and refusing to look at Slate and Safin's eyes in Quantum of Solace and No Time To Die respectively. As for abusing women, Bond's relationships with Vesper, Camille, and Madeline were anything but abuse. He does seduce Fields and Lucia to achieve his goals and his sleeping with Severine is contentious, albeit presented as consensual, but these are tame compared earlier films like Goldfinger, Thunderball, and The Man With The Golden Gun.

Craig wanted to kill off Bond because he hated the role

He doesn't. The "wrist-slitting" comment that his detractors frequently use as "proof" was, according to him, an ill-advised attempt at a joke that he regrets, and was borne from a troubled production that saw him stick with a tear in the ACL for nine months to prevent delays. As for Bond's death, his comments on NTTD's ending and the influences from OHMSS and Fleming's work show a clear artistic desire to wrap up his era definitively to allow the next to start fresh while still paying tribute to the source material. While the execution may not have been the best, there were no ill intentions behind the decision to kill off Bond.

Barbara Broccoli kept Craig on for so long because she was infatuated with him

This is a rather sexist insinuation. Did Albert Broccoli keep Moore on for so long because he was in love with him? Craig was a popular Bond whose five films are all in the top half financially when adjusted for inflation. Skyfall/Spectre rivals GoldfingeThunderball, released during the franchise's peak in popularity culturally, as the most successful consecutive pair of films in franchise history. It made sense from a business perspective to retain Craig for so long.

Not exactly. using the UK release dates, for the Brosnan era, GoldenEye first released November 24, 1995; Tomorrow Never Dies December 12, 1997 (749 days); The World Is Not Enough November 26, 1999 (714 days); and Die Another Day November 20, 2002 (1090 days). That makes for an average of 2.33 years between films.
Now for Craig's first four films, Casino Royale released November 16, 2006; Quantum of Solace October 31, 2008 (715 days); Skyfall October 26, 2012 (1456 days); and Spectre October 26, 2015 (1095 days). There was an average of 2.98 years between films, meaning that the average increased by 237 days, or around 8 months, between films compared to the Brosnan era. It should be noted that Skyfall lost a year of pre-production because MGM declared bankruptcy.
No Time To Die would have originally released October 25, 2019, 1460 days after SP first released, bringing the average to 3.23 years between films. Due to the original director and writer leaving, the film's final release date pre-pandemic was April 3, 2020, 1621 days later, bringing the average to 3.34. The true release date was ultimately September 30, 2021, 2166 days later, resulting in an average of 3.72.
Making films takes more time and resources. While it would be nice to have more films frequently, it's understandable that the average time between films has increased, more so when considering the production issues Skyfall and No Time To Die faced.

So here's the deal. I'm a paint and body kind a guy. Not a rebuilding engines kind of guy. Not even really much of a car performance kind of guy. After I get done painting my F150, I'm going to have quite a bit of blue and white paint left over. So, I plan on giving my 02 Escort ZX2 a touch up.
As kind of a tribute to the old 60's rally Escorts I'm going to paint it in the American racing colors (I know 60's escorts were British... but me, my car, and the company are American. Plus, I already have the blue and white paint.) It's white already, but it's going to end up white with two blue stripes over the top and a blue underbody. Maybe I'll do a car number on the doors. Maybe not.
But here's the thing, I don't want to have it looking like a rally racer, but then otherwise be completely bone stock. Also, performance parts made for late escorts are pretty much nonexistent.
Most things I see are adding turbos or superchargers... that just seems a little over my head. So far, I'm working on building a shaker hood (paint and body guy) so it can breath better. And shaker hoods are badass.
This thing isn't going to be in any races, but it'd nice if it could handle washboarded dirt roads with ease. I know coilovers, sway bars, etc also get recommended a lot, but A) I don't know much about them and B) I can barely find OEM/salvage parts for this car let alone performance parts. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Could anyone recommend a mechanic for a pre purchase inspection? How do things like this work here, is it better to take the car away for an inspection so it can be put on a lift, or are mobile mechanics still a good option?

Life has become a trap for me in which there is no way out. Everything is a mess since moving to Glasgow, UK, two years ago and I've had three annus horibilis in a row each getting progressively worse. A fatalism has creeped in which I see no prospect for my future and in my darkest hours feels like I'm in the final moments of my life. By that I'm not necessarily referring to a sudden impulse to kill myself but a dreading that it'll happen in the next year.
Speaking analogically I feel like I'm in a dump truck about to throw its load away into an abyss. Ive been struggling to get out and now I'm nearing the point of no return. One wrong move sends me into the abyss.
I doubt I'm an immediate risk of suicide. However the safeguards I have in place are getting worn down.
The problems started 3 years ago in which shortly after moving into my own apartment and doing some trauma therapy I experienced bullying and discrimination in an environment aimed at myself and others at work. I fought for my part before leaving to Glasgow a year later.
Once in Glasgow, the trauma of what happened at work started haunting me and I was experiencing some symptoms of PTSD. I found another job in Glasgow but it was incredibly stressful. I have Autism and Dyspraxia diagnosed well also looking into ADHD. The job just put incredible stress and my family who were accommodating me needed money help. Eventually I fully burned myself out and quit because of active suicidal thoughts (this was about 10 months ago).
While off sick from work, I struggled to do the emotional work to recover because of tension in the household amongst my family. We found a way to deal with the tension but I've not been able to put in the emotional work because I'm deemed to be too volatile though one family member has a history of being emotionally provocative.
I have debts that are completely ignored. No friends as I struggle making friends. No relationships either. Family is the only support I have but that can get extremely tense. I'm living with my parents at 33. The jobs I can get stress me out so I can't function and I have limited prospects of getting the jobs I could do.
My life is just a giant mess. When I see hope I feel like I can't trust myself mentally or physically anymore to push through. I struggle acting and have severe procrastination issues from fear of failure, success and perfectionism. I struggle with impulsivity and bad financing though I know how to budget.
I'm at the point I just see suffering in my life, useless pain. No hope, no prospects and I feel like an abject failure in life as a human being. I've wanted to die for numerous years (around 14) and it's the most efficient option out of the mess I'm in.
I've increasingly moved from third person views of idealising my suicide to first/third person. The thoughts have been increasingly intense. I'm in a pull and tug relationship with the pull towards suicide ever increasing. I've lost faith in myself.
I'm reluctant getting help because I don't see myself as an emergency care though a part of me wants to have an emergency so I can get immediate help. Part of me doesn't think I warrant the help or a bad enough to justify having it. I'm used to living with suicidal thoughts my whole adult life so it's normal for me.
Do I check myself in a hospital? Should I be getting help? (From my previous post the answer is clearly yes). What help do I need? I feel wrong misstep could send me spiralling into the abyss.

Why live?
What is the point of life? All I see is misery and despair. All the beauty has vanished. All the good has vanished. All the love has vanished. I want nothing more to do with this world. The world is better without me here. I hog up resources and take. I'm a parasite deserving of death. There's nothing good about me. There can't be any good about me. I'm a sick evil demon. Only through death can I be salvaged into the abyss for eternity so I can have an unearned rest.

To cut a long story short, I quit my job this week, I am going to uni in September and my loan for uni only covers half my accommodation for the year, so all the rest of the money I have from the last two years of working (I don't really spend any money if I don't REALLY need to, so all my money is basically savings) I have had to spend on that. I also recently had to pay my car insurance, which for young drivers in the UK is painfully expensive. Now the issue with this is I need to find a way to feed myself for at least a month or two when I go to uni before I can find a job there. Jobs near where I live are incredibly scarce so finding one just for over the summer is practically out of the question, along with tasks such as dog walking/ lawn care etc etc. Online methods would be vastly more accessible to me.
TLDR: Im looking for a way to make 300-800 over the next 3ish months. Is this realistic, and if so how? Otherwise its cold water soup for me come september.

Hi all, For reference, the registration is LR15 WKJ (MOT history can be checked on the UK gov website), it has had 2 previous owners, owner doesn't have service history and used it as a taxi, hence did 50k miles in 2 years, it's got 2 keys...
Awful interior with heavy wear and tear but I do have a feeling car might have more life left in it being a petrol Mazda. I'll see if I can get the service history from Mazda if I ask nicely...
I'm thinking of offering 1500GBP as they want to get rid... is this an ok number for such an example with high mileage?

Hello, I’ve recently received two parking charges from UK Car Park Management of £100 (£60 reduced for early payment) for two separate occasions.
The carpark in question is for residents of my partners building, of which I stopped in for 12 minutes and 15 minutes. I didn’t even get out the car, I just picked them up and dropped off.
This is a new car, and my partner had forgotten to add me to his permitted registration list. Do I have any chance of appealing these or will they tell me to get stuffed?

TLDR: Baby (13 weeks) won’t nap out of arms. We’ve been practicing for 8 weeks. Practicing is making me miserable. Planning to sleep train in July. Should I cut my losses and just contact nap at this point, or is there something I’m missing?
Baby is almost 13 weeks old. Since the end of March, I’ve been working on the elusive contact-free nap. Based on my Snoo record, I’ve tried in the Snoo least once a day (sometimes twice) 29 times in the last 54 days. We’ve had four successes in total, all under an hour. Twice I put him down awake and he fell asleep on his own, and twice I got him to sleep then set him down and he stayed asleep for another 20-30 minutes or so. A few times I’ve tried putting him asleep on my bed, the baby swing, the doc a tot knock off, or some other more comfortable less safe location … but no bites. We’ve also tried naps in the car and in the stroller (both bassinet and car seat attachments), and he’s only had one nap in one of those arrangements—it was in the bassinet part of the stroller, but I had to keep the stroller rolling.
During the day, he primarily naps in the baby carrier. If you get him in before his internal timer is up, he doesn’t even fight it. (If you get him strapped in a little late in the wake window, he’ll let out his swan song for 15 minutes before passing out.) At night he sleeps great in his Snoo, typically nursing to sleep before bed and during his 1-2 MOTN wakes, but he doesn’t always nurse to sleep! Sometimes I’ll put him down awake and asleep he goes. Even when he nurses to sleep, he’ll sometimes wake up during the transfer. The point of this paragraph is to spell out “sleep crutches” that he does have and the extent to which he depends on them, and to suggest that he doesn’t have reflux since he sleeps flat on his back all night long.
When we try for Snoo naps, he typically cries so intensely that the Snoo almost immediately (3 minutes in) turns off. I’ve tried just sitting there in the room, resetting it several times in a row—you have to do it manually because you’re not supposed to let your baby cry that loud for that long I guess. I’ve tried SITBACK. I’ve tried getting him sleepy before setting him down, but almost nothing pisses him off more than me trying to “Taking Cara Babies” CRIES him into a drowsy state. Once we’ve given it 10-15 minutes of wailing in the bassinet (I’m talking 100% volume, sets-off-your-smart-watch decibel levels), the road forks: I hold him to sleep then keep trying to put him down; I hold him to sleep and just sit or stand in his room for the rest of the nap; I strap him into the carrier for the rest of the nap. But whatever we do at that point, it involves a lot of intense crying and a far less restful nap than he’d have if I just put him in the carrier to begin with, and 2/3 of those options tie me down for another hour or more while I try to keep him asleep.
His room is dark with blackout curtains and is 71-72 degrees (bought a thermostat for his room in particular in case temperature was the issue.) We use a sound machine, and we have a pre-nap routine that mimics the bedtime routine. And of course I’m watching the wake windows; he seems to be a little higher sleep needs than average. He still doesn’t love being awake for more than 75 minutes at a time, especially for that first wake window which typically precedes our practice nap, so usually I start the nap time routine at the one hour mark.
I am struggling to provide more consistent practice than this because I also have a 2 year old son, and when I’m taking care of him, my ability to sink time and attention into the baby’s nap is very limited. When my toddler has other care, I need to be getting work done, so it’s a big loss to spend so much time on the nap. Best case scenario, trying for the bassinet nap takes 40 minutes more of my time than just putting him in the carrier and carrying on with life, but often it’s much more because I get stuck in his room trying to salvage some sleep for him. And of course, various life things come up, too: grandma visits and offers to hold him, we take a trip, we try to hit up library story time, baby gets his shots, etc. While I understand that this is not a great deal of consistency, it’s hard for me to imagine that there are parents of multiple children out there who have much more consistency to offer. Who that is also taking care of other kids has an hour and a half out of every 3 to render themselves otherwise unavailable, multiple times a day, every day of the week? Maybe I’m dead wrong on this point, but I have to imagine I’m offering as much consistency as other parents of multiple kids have offered their younger babies, babies who somehow began to get some traction after months of effort.
I’m feeling frustrated and hopeless. I am going on 8 weeks of making what feels like a lot of sacrifice to encourage independent napping, and I am not really seeing any progress. In fact, I’m starting to feel like it’s not worth it any more. I’ve already accepted that I’ll need to sleep train; we’re ripping off that bandaid on 7/22 and have multiple out-of-town trips planned before then. And the practice naps come at a big cost to me in terms of both time and peace of mind. Right now, I don’t have full time childcare for my baby, so I am already working in the margins. I keep telling myself that it will save me time once it clicks for him, but like we are months into this and have seen literally no return on the investment. With all the stress it has caused me, we are actually pretty deep in the red.
So: should I cut my losses and just lean in to the carrier nap until the end of July? Or is there something I can do to get bassinet napping online? Why does practicing help other babies but not mine//why have we seen no progress at all when practice is touted as the ticket?!
