2024.05.21 17:50 Typical_Soup7997 Emma and Garth - mini Chads.
Emma looks just like Tammy. I couldnt help by shed a tear warching her speak against her own mother. Garth is not innocent, as everyone seems to think. He is just like Emma. They are both manipulative like Chad. Everyone forgets that they were all hanging out together with Lori immediately after Tammy's death. That is not something you do if you are suspicious of someone who they now blame for everything. But only after Chad had been in jail for a while and was advised by his lawyer to do. They (the Daybell family in general) were putting money on Lori's books weekly after Chad went to jail. Chad has completely built their world and every window, door and floor. He is an extension of their god.
To say Garth and Emma weren't coached by Prior on specific topics and answers would be ignorant. I would say Garth attempted to answer more honestly than Emma and maybe was less coached, but he knew exactly what he was saying with alot of thought in every question. Including the one he asked to have repeated so he could correct his answer. That's alot of thought to put into a question. One that revealed his wife originally told police that he told her he found Tammy on the couch. Possible to be a miscommunication, but then he also painted a picture of the prosecutors being a menace to him. Holding him in a room away from his wife for no reason. Until the cross and we hear it was because he asked for a lawyer to be present and that lawyer had to arrive, they offered him food and drink and treated him like a person being questioned, not detained. It wouldn't have been in their best interest to treat him poorly in the beginning.
If Chad has painted the police out to be Satan and his children are not only looking for his guidance as the patriarch of the family, but also accepting that he has a special relationship with their God that allows only him to be a source of communication for everyone that was able to be manipulated in his life. When you are in that mindset, there is no convincing you of anything to the contrary and all your actions are justified. (Knowledge from personal previous 'religious' experiences) They are stuck with only what they know, and their source has been and will only be his dad. Right now they see this as relgious persecution which means their manipulation is justified. They are the innocent family that is up against this spiritual warfare and its up to them to save their dad - because it says in the Bible they are certain to suffer for religious persecution as all saints will.
Could you imagine if they actually were capable of believing their dad committed these horrendous acts? I think they would be beyond traumatized for the rest of their lives. Their brains are relying heavily on religion to keep them from realization and total self-destruction. If they accept that their mom was healthy, then they'd have to accept that her death didn't make sense, and maybe just maybe their dad played a bigger role than what they know. Their whole world would be ripped apart. People can't handle that kind of mental change.
It was so sad to see Emma sit there. She looked just like her mother. Regardless of how she feels or what she said. She did lose her mother and then her father. The first two people that were on her team in life and were responsible for showing her the world. She probably knows very little beyond the walls they built. She moved right beside them to raise her family. There was definitely a heavy dependency on their parent - child relationship. Not sure which side needed the other more. Chad needed people to believe and the kids needed something to believe.
I think Lindsey Blake - all of the prosecution really shouldn't have been so quick to be so sharp tounged, instead they should have had questions for her ready for years. All the questions they wanted to ask her, have waited years to ask them both - they should have written down, went though them when they could get them in during cross and brought out all the evidence they had to show how Chad was manipulating her and Grant. Their focus shouldn't have been on the lies they told, but on the evidence that proved their dad lied to them. If they could have had them realize the truth on the stand then that could have ended in an uproar of information. If the prosecution could have convinced Emma and Garth there is no way they couldn't have convince the jury. I think Lindsey got really in her emotions, even Rocky looked like that's where he was going yesterday.
I know it's hard because they are there to get justice for many innocent people, and to prevent monsters from doing it again. Who wouldn't be upset listening to lies spew out of people who promise to be telling the truth? They know their lying and the evidence they have may have not been able to be entered as evidence for this trial. If they could just show the Nate Eaton Hawaii video of him asking them where her kids, were then that alone would be beneficial for the jury. I'm sure there was no way that was allowed to come in.
I hope they can keep their emotions in check and just do an excellent job of providing evidence for all of the clear liars Prior will be parading through. They could have done so much better with Emma and Garth. Even Lori. I am happy to see thus far Rob Wood has been able to keep his composure especially when it seems he has more intimate knowledge of the Daybells.
Mostly I hope the jurors aren't getting confused with all of this and somehow Lori is able to watch the trial and see that they attempted to not only hang her out to dry, but pin it on her - without pinning it on her. As I understand, because she is considered a co-conspiritor the defense is unable to distance Chad from Lori and due to that can't blame it on her but it's obvious that's what they want to do. The most confusing part is when Prior insinuates it was Alex or Lori doing the action, but when it doesn't fit his narrative, he defends them. I can't believe no one is calling that out. He has contradicted himself so much it has to be hard to follow receiving all of this information for the first time, but I feel like that is part of Priors manipulative defense. I can't even believe everytime there was a question about one of the police's action the response wasn't "was it in fact due to the two missing children they spent months trying to find?" Cause that alone should speak volumes.
Hoping we all find peace in this verdict because it's not just for those in that court room. All across the U.S. and the globe people know about their actions, and we invested our emotions into these children. I even thought Lori was innocent at first when this all hit the news. No way could a mom do that to her children, she must clearly be hiding them from a cult or something and is scared. My mind was blown when they found the kids. It was that moment I realized I was incredibly naive.
Thanks for the rant.

2024.05.21 16:47 fifi_edits Is Pesto Keto-Friendly?
Pesto is a nutritious sauce and condiment available in many tasty variations, but is pesto keto-friendly?
Yes, traditionally prepared pesto is low in carbs and can be a great way to add depth of flavor to various keto recipes.
Discover the benefits of regularly incorporating pesto into a ketogenic diet and learn how to make the best Healthy Keto® pesto recipe.
What is pesto?
Originating from Genoa, Italy, authentic pesto sauce is crafted from simple ingredients, including fresh basil leaves, garlic, parmesan cheese,
pecorino cheese, pine nuts, olive oil, sea salt, and pepper.
The name pesto comes from the Genovese word pestare, which means to pound or crush. It depicts the traditional method of preparing pesto using a mortar and pestle to combine ingredients.
Here are common ingredients used in different pesto varieties.
Common herbs used in pesto
The original pesto recipe, Pesto alla Genovese, exclusively uses Genovese basil as the primary herb due to its unique sweetness.
Basil is a delicate herb, and using the mortar and pestle instead of harshly chopping or blending with a food processor slows down the oxidation of the leaves. This not only helps preserve the sauce's vivid green hue but also enhances its flavor and aroma.
However, pesto has evolved to encompass a broader range of ingredients.
Here are some other common herbs used in many pesto recipes:
- Italian flat-leaf parsley
- Cilantro
- Mint
- Oregano
In addition to herbs, many pesto sauces incorporate ingredients such as arugula, spinach, kale, lemon juice, or tomatoes.
Common nuts used in pesto
Similarly, some recipes replace the traditional toasted pine nuts with other types of
nuts to add a unique twist to the classic dish.
Here are some commonly used nuts used to prepare pesto:
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Walnuts
- Pecans
- Pistachios
Is pesto keto-friendly?
Traditional pesto is low in carbohydrates and contains less than one gram of net carbs per tablespoon. This makes pesto an excellent keto-friendly option that offers impressive flavors.
However, since there are many different pesto variations, it’s crucial to read labels to check that there are no added sugars or hidden carbs that could interfere with
ketosis.
For those following
Healthy Keto, a low-carb diet that focuses on nutrient-dense whole foods, checking the ingredients list is essential, as many pre-made pestos can include potentially harmful additives and preservatives.
Watch this video to discover the health and nutritional benefits of basil.
Amazing Health & Nutritional Benefits Of Basil
4 health benefits of pesto
Authentic basil pesto combines several superfoods high in nutrients, offering many potential health benefits.
Here are four reasons why you should incorporate more pesto into your meals.
1. Anti-aging properties
Research published in
Frontiers in Nutrition shows that healthy fats, particularly the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids found in olive oil, can improve brain function and help reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
These fatty acids are also vital for supporting eye health and contribute to healthier skin by improving skin barrier function and hydration.
2. Supports the immune system
According to a
study published in
Foods, Genovese basil is particularly rich in polyphenols, including rosmarinic and caffeic acid.
These health-promoting compounds have been linked to potent anti-inflammatory effects that support immune system function and may lower the risk of chronic diseases.
3. Potential anti-cancer effects Key ingredients in pesto, including basil, garlic, and olive oil, are exceptional sources of
antioxidants that may help lower cancer risk.
Antioxidants can counteract the effects of free radicals, thereby preventing oxidative stress, which is linked to cellular and DNA damage, a leading cause of cancer.
4. Promotes digestive health
Parmigiano Reggiano, widely considered the best cheese for pesto, contains digestive enzymes and beneficial gut bacteria, also known as probiotics.
Probiotics help maintain a healthy gut microbiome essential for nutrient absorption, digestive health, and overall well-being.
Research published in
Food Technology and Biotechnology found that Parmigiano Reggiano also contains oligosaccharides, which act as a prebiotic food source for beneficial gut bacteria.
Store-bought vs. homemade pesto
Italians will be the first to tell you there's no comparison between store-bought and homemade pesto sauce.
Pesto is a delicate sauce that’s best consumed fresh, as its flavor and quality can deteriorate quickly, becoming bitter and dull as the
enzymes released from basil oxidize.
To help extend pesto’s shelf life, store-bought versions often contain preservatives and additives that can negatively impact the flavor and quality of the sauce and may harm your health.
Additionally, many store-bought pestos will substitute critical ingredients, such as
extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), cheese, or fresh garlic, with cheaper alternatives or omit them entirely, leading to a bland or unpalatable flavor and a significantly lower nutritional value.
How to choose the best store-bought pesto sauce
Homemade pesto sauce is always preferred, but if you don't have time to make it, the best premade pestos can often be found in the refrigerated section.
Look for pestos that don't contain artificial preservatives or low-quality ingredients, such as sunflower oil or potato flakes. Instead, opt for certified organic and non-GMO products that use high-quality oil and real cheese sourced from grass-fed and pasture cows.
Keto-friendly pesto recipes
If you're looking for a way to add extra flavor to your keto meals, look no further than pesto. Chicken, fish, steak, and most vegetables pair exceptionally well with this tasty and versatile sauce.
Here are some delicious keto-friendly pesto recipes:
To complete your pesto experience, try experimenting with keto pasta recipes.
Zucchini noodles,
keto gnocchi, and
keto egg noodles are excellent low-carb pasta alternatives that work well with keto pesto sauce.
Tips to make the best pesto sauce
Here are some tips on how to choose the best ingredient to make a nutritious and flavorful pesto at home.
Parmesan cheese
Opt for authentic Parmigiano Reggiano, an Italian staple that’s been in production for over 900 years.
Known for its rich, nutty flavor and granular texture, Parmigiano Reggiano undergoes a meticulous aging process and adheres to stringent production standards, ensuring its authenticity and superior quality.
The Parmigiano Reggiano
standard guidelines underscore a commitment to natural production, prohibiting additives and ensuring cows are fed local forage.
This approach not only guarantees the cheese's premium taste but also preserves essential nutrients and probiotics.
Olive oil
Select only pure cold-pressed EVOO. Many olive oils on the market are diluted with cheaper oils that compromise flavor and can introduce harmful ingredients that may negatively impact your health.
In addition,
evidence published in the
Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition summarizes,
"phenolic content of olive oil is reduced by chemical extraction and refining." By prioritizing cold-pressed EVOO, you ensure your olive oil is rich in flavor and health-promoting properties.
Fresh Genovese basil
Harvested during early growth stages to ensure optimal flavor, Genovese basil is the prime choice for making basil pesto.
As Dr. Berg explains,
"Basil has some amazing health benefits. It’s loaded with vitamin K, manganese, and flavonoids, which can help support healthy bones, blood clotting, and skeletal health while offering potent anti-inflammatory properties.” submitted by

2024.05.21 15:52 figure_sk8 Safe House (GMMTV) Day 3, Part 2/2 Summary/Rough Translation [Potential Spoilers]
Hi everyone,
Here's the summary for the second half of Day 3 of Safe House. There were also quite a few talking-based activities today, and I directly transcribed a bit more this time, especially during the cooking competition, because a lot was happening so I wanted all the funny exchanges to be translated. Hope you guys enjoy!
Video Link:
https://www.youtube.com/live/cjn8w8j06ik?feature=shared - They're having a jam session when we join
- 3:45 Neo and Luke are improvising a song about all the guys. I'll just translate the lyrics that Luke sings in Thai because he also sings in English a bit too. When you hear Neo talking/singing, he's trying to translate what Luke is singing, but sometimes he's a little off.
- Mix: "can be good but also bad. Likes to eat a lot with Pond"
- Phuwin: (sings in English)
- Pond: (sings in English) "Everyone knows that he always wants to eat rice with Thai omelette (extra salty)"
- Neo: "He's probably the most annoying in the house, but he's also cute. He loves annoying everyone a lot, especially Earth. That's the kind of person he is. He plays guitar really well."
- Khaotung: "I like how he likes similar things as me. I like how he plays darts with me. I like how he also wins games like me."
- (pause while they laugh)
- 6:30 Earth: "Everyone who's watching this livestream knows that he likes to wear this red sweatshirt." (pause because Neo needs to think of what to play) "Red shirt, red shirt, has nice stuff in his hair" (then sings in English) (pause because of Neo's mistranslation) "Actually, he should be the best in the house, but right now he has the lowest score. But that's alright, because there's lots of time for him to win more games."
- Gun: "Yellow shirt, like the Sang Sang that he's the presenter of. He's really tiny, but his smile is huge. He's also very good-looking and the nicest in the house" (then Luke says something a bit funny but rude, which makes Gun get up and try to push a pillow in Luke's face)
- 9:50 Mix and Gun go to the kitchen. The others realise that they can watch the footage of the kitchen from the TV.
- 10:45 Neo and Khaotung consider improvising a song for Luke since he didn't get to sing about himself, but Luke declines.
- 12:15 PD asks everyone to assemble in the kitchen. She makes a notification sound before speaking so that the guys don't get startled, which they appreciate
- 13:20 Medal competition sponsored by Sea Me Now. Gun reads the rules. They will divide themselves into two teams. Each team will send two members to prepare "yum" (a type of Thai salad served at room temperature, often involving some kind of noodles like glass noodles) within 15 minutes, using the seafood from Sea Me Now. Meanwhile, the remaining 4 guys will wait in another room until the dishes are ready, and they will come and blindly taste the dishes and vote on which dish is better. Winning team gets one medal each.
- 16:00 PD asks the teams which member each thinks is the best cook in the team. Phuwin is the best of the left team, and the right-hand team are undecided between Gun and Khaotung. At 17:30 PD asks which member from each group is the worst at cooking. The guys start to figure out that PD is going to pair the best cook with the worst cook, so the right-hand team try to blag that Khaotung and Gun don't know how to cook that well after all. At 18:30, Neo is the only one who hasn't caught on to PD's plan, so he raises his hand to indicate that he's the worst cook on that team because he thinks it means he won't have to cook. Final cooking teams are Phuwin/Neo and Gun/Pond. The rest go to wait in the play zone.
- 21:00 Phuwin has only just realised that they are required to make "yum," which he doesn't know how to make. He mistakenly thought they could make whatever they wanted. Gun is also not confident.
- 23:00 Cooking timer begins. Both teams decide to use the salmon. Phuwin/Neo decide they're going to leave their salmon raw. Pond asks Gun if they're going to leave theirs raw too, and Phuwin accuses him of copying them. Gun decides they're going to lightly blanch their salmon.
- 28:00 Neo goes to look for a food processor. Gun asks if he can process enough chilis for both teams, and Neo initially jokingly declines, but then agrees.
- 30:15 Phuwin asks Neo to make the glass noodles. Neo isn't sure how to prepare them, and Phuwin guesses that they're supposed to just put them briefly in boiling water (which is correct)
- 31:30 We cut to the play zone where the tasting teams do a light brand plug for Sea Me Now. They teach Luke a new word that basically means "great." (I guess it's kind of like "sick" in English how the actual definition of the word is different, but it's slang when used in context). Mix is confident that Gun/Pond are going to make the better dish.
- 37:00 PD announces one minute remaining, and that "the customers are complaining." Gun/Pond finish with some time to spare and present their dish to the camera, but Phuwin/Neo finish a little late (but it's fine; there will be no penalty. PD just keeps rushing them to finish)
- 40:30 PD asks the teams to write the names of their respective dishes on the mini boards provided. Pond originally writes a name that indirectly reveals that he and Gun made that dish, and PD says that the names can't have any hints of who made which dish.
- 43:30 PD asks the teams to pose with their respective dishes, and invites the audience to screenshot and caption them. Gun/Pond's dish translates to, "Definitely delicious; try it and see," and Phuwin/Neo's dish (roughly) translates to, "Just making a 'yum,' but don't know how to make it" (It's a rhyme/pun in Thai)
- 44:30 Cooking teams leave the kitchen and go sit in the living room so they can watch the tasting on the TV. PD warns them not to cheat while the teams are changing rooms.
- 47:15, the tasting team goes to the kitchen. They each get 3 ping pong balls with which they can vote. Phuwin/Neo's dish is the white side, and Gun/Pond's is the blue side. The votes can be cast by dropping the balls into the coloured containers corresponding to the dishes.
- 48:00 It is immediately obvious to all of them immediately which team made which dish. Transcription starting from 48:20:
- Earth: "Why don't we start by judging the presentation before we taste?"
- Mix: "Looking at these two dishes, this one (blue) is definitely wins."
- Earth (trying to help his team): "I think I'm going to go with this one (white). Listen, none of us know which dish was made by which team..."
- Luke: "But we have theories."
- Mix: "I just want to know in what way this (white) dish could possibly be more beautiful than that (blue) dish."
- (pause while they think of some nonsense) Luke: "The vegetables. They just look so nice. And there are so many of them."
- Earth: "I'm giving it to this team (white)."
- Luke: "Me too."
- (audio cuts out for a few seconds)
- Mix is saying "The truth?!" to implore Earth and Luke to admit the truth, but they stick to their decisions
- Luke: "It's my personal opinion. I'm not changing."
- 49:55 Mix comes up to the camera and mouths, "There are cheaters here."
- Earth and Luke say, "Who knows? This plate could have been made by anyone."
- 50:15 Mix: "Okay, let's move on to the flavour." They taste Phuwin/Neo's first.
- Earth: "I hear laughing outside. Who's laughing?"
- 51:00 Luke: "Very good."
- Earth looks at Luke. Luke: "It's actually good. It suits my palate."
- Mix: "I mean, it's alright. It's not bad. The salmon and imitation crab are good. They taste really fresh. But the noodles are awkwardly super cold. Like, is this bamee yen (a cold noodle dish)? Also, there's just something not right. It's sour, and it's like trying to be spicy but not spicy, trying to be salty but not salty. It's not balanced. What do you think, Earth?"
- Earth: "I'll give it to you honestly."
- Mix: (puts his hand on Earth's shoulder and looks into his eyes) "Yes, give it to us honestly."
- Earth: "Okay, honestly, I like the raw ingredients. I like that the imitation crab meat is in large chunks. But..."
- Mix: "Look, he's talking about the raw ingredients. He's not even talking about the flavour of the dish."
- Earth: "The flavour is like how Mix described. And honestly, it's sour. It's so sour. Uncomfortably sour. Like, too sour. Can I have some water?"
- 52:40 Luke: "I really like how there are lots of vegetables here. That means that dish is really healthy for you. If you ask me if I can eat the other dish, I can eat it, but it won't be as healthy as this dish."
- Earth: "Oh, okay, so he's talking about the health value of the dish."
- Mix: "But we're talking about the flavour of the dish, here, no?"
- Luke: "I'm a person who doesn't like eating things too spicy. (uses the vocab word he learned earlier) So I like that this one is a good balance. It's not too spicy for me.
- 53:35 Earth looks at Luke and says, "Is it not too sour? I think you've already helped our team a lot here."
- Luke: "No, I don't think so. I honestly think it's good. But we haven't tried the other dish."
- Earth: "That's true. Different people have different flavour preferences. Some like super sour, for example. And if those people also don't like spicy food, this dish is for them."
- 54:05 They ask for Khaotung's review. He pauses and then quietly says, "Um... Sour. It's sour."
- Mix: "How about between the words 'delicious' and 'not delicious'?"
- Khaotung: "Well, I can definitely eat it. But it's super sour. It's not well-rounded."
- 54:35 They move on to taste Gun/Pond's dish. Mix comes to the camera and enthusiastically whispers, "It's SO good!"
- 55:15 Earth: "I like the creativity of this team. The salmon was raw, but this team lightly blanched the fish so that the inside is still raw, which adds a lot of layers to the flavours and textures of the dish. I like it."
- Mix: "Can I speak extendedly? It's SO good. It's amazing. It's well-rounded, yummy, the textures are amazing, and it's easy to see that the person who made it really knows how to cook. I'm pretty sure I know who made it." Khaotung agrees.
- 56:40 Luke decides to still vote for the white dish because the second dish is a bit too spicy for him. Earth sees that there's no way that the white dish can win anymore, so he puts his last ball into the white container anyway.
- 58:00 More brand plugging for Sea Me Now
- 59:45 PD calls the cooking teams back to the kitchen to announce the results.
- 1:00:35 Luke says to Phuwin/Neo: "I tried, guys." Neo says, "I love this guy. He said the truth straight from his heart." Earth says that he tried to say the truth too. Neo complains that he was working with so many ingredients he had no idea how to use. I was just putting everything in randomly. Mix asks who did the seasoning/flavouring, and Neo said, "Me, but we didn't have time to taste it because we ran out of time."
- 1:02:00 The cooking teams try each other's dishes (and Phuwin/Neo try their own dish for the first time too). Neo tries Gun/Pond's dish. Earth immediately feeds him a huge bite of his own dish. Neo pauses and says, "It seems like it's missing something." Mix and Earth say, "Not something. Many things. Like deliciousness." Earth feeds some to Phuwin, and he also doesn't like it.
- 1:02:45 Neo looks at Earth and says, "You did the right thing." (in reference to criticising this dish and voting for the other one). Earth says, "So you understand me now?!"
- Neo makes fun of how Gun was previously dramatic about not knowing how to make "yum." Gun says that he truly wasn't sure, and Neo feeds Gun some of Phuwin/Neo's dish saying, "See? This is what it means to truly not know what you're doing." Gun's eyes water while eating it, and he says, "It's so sour," and goes to hug Neo and Phuwin.
- 1:04:00 More brand plugging for Sea Me Now
- 1:05:00 Neo says that he's glad that there's at least someone (Luke) who enjoys eating his food. He then realises that Luke has only been eating the seafood and the vegetables, none of which have been flavoured/seasoned. Luke then takes a bite of the noodles to appease him.
- 1:06:00 Seafood lunch. Menu includes (professionally-made) "yum" with salmon and imitation crab topped with salmon roe; oysters with a seafood sauce; scallops fried with garlic, salt, and pepper; and grilled salmon steaks
- 1:17:45 Khaotung and Mix go to the kitchen to make some more food with the fresh seafood they have
- 1:19:15 Luke asks Earth why he's sitting so far away from him, and Neo turns it into a pun about Earth wanting scissors ("sitting far away" sounds a bit similar to "looking for scissors")
- 1:21:10 This is Pond's first time trying mashed potatoes. Luke and Phuwin explain what they are to him and explain that in some Western countries, they eat less rice than they do in Asia, so sometimes they eat potatoes as the starch (a lot of the dishes for this meal were prepared in a Western way)
- 1:22:30 Neo teaches them Isan slang that a more polite phrase to basically say, "BS-ing." They also mention the Central equivalent of the phrase. They ask Luke what an equivalent in English would be, but Luke can only think of "BS-ing," so he says that he can't say it out loud. He eventually goes with "spinning stuff." Neo says that he feels like English doesn't have as many rude/swearing words as Thai does, and Earth makes a joke that he wouldn't be surprised if Neo's name was rude in English.
- 1:23:55 They like how Luke seems especially giggly today, so they try to keep him laughing. Neo says a Thai phrase/idiom that basically means that he's not even being funny to his full capacity right now, then Earth and Phuwin give some sarcastic remarks that are like playful insults to Neo, which Luke continues laughing at.
- 1:26:00 Phuwin and Gun join Mix and Khaotung in the kitchen to cook some more seafood. They're prepping some salmon, scallops, and oysters. Gun wants to make lightly floured and pan-fried tofu.
- 1:27:30 The guys at the table are joking to Luke that it's Thai culture to be polite to people, but then the closer you get to them, the more you insult them. You start the insults behind their back, but then you can eventually insult them to their face (it's not technically false, especially for some friend groups, but the way they were explaining it is a bit too much, hahaha). Then they demonstrate that, actually, the best thing to do is to be polite to someone's face, and then behind their back, you compliment them again.
- 1:29:00 They exchange the English and Thai versions of the phrase "fishing for compliments"
- 1:32:20 Luke is trying to tell the story of why he came to Thailand, but he's still in his giggly mood. He wanted to be an actor in the US, but he was scouted from IG to come and be a model in Thailand, so he arranged to come for 3 months, but he liked it, so he stayed.
- 1:34:10 They mention that they're glad they have Neo in the house because otherwise it would be so much quieter and less entertaining.
- 1:40:15 Gun brings the tofu for the guys at the table to try. They struggle a bit because it's still very hot, but they approve.
- 1:43:45 The guys at the table talk about ventriloquists. Luke explains how in the US, ventriloquism can either be creepy or funny depending on the act, but in Thailand it tends to mostly be creepy. They start discussing some related film/series plots.
- 1:59:30 Pond, Neo, and Luke dance a bit for the cameras
- 2:01:00 Relaxing time. Mix presents the dish he made to the camera: spaghetti pad kee mao (drunken noodles) with scallops, crab, and salmon roe. He brings it to the living room for everyone else to try.
- 2:08:40 Some language lessons. Phuwin and Luke ask Neo some questions for him to answer in English. They also ask Luke some questions in Thai. They try to ask Neo and Luke to speak English and Thai (respectively) for two minutes each, language exam-style.
- 2:13:50 PD asks the losing team from the last game to go wash dishes. They say that the sink area is small, so two people will wash at a time.
- 2:36:05 Earth drops and breaks a dish. Earth tells a story about how when he was very young, he hated washing dishes, so sometimes he would secretly break some dirty dishes behind his house so he wouldn't have to clean as many. Eventually his mother started wondering where all the dishes were disappearing to, but she just kept buying more
- 2:41:15 PD asks for someone to wake Gun (who's napping on the sofa) and assemble in the area in front of the medal board for the next medal game. She asks Mix "the one with many medals" and Earth "the one with hardly any medals" to take the lead in reading the rules. Earth is offended, but PD says, "Earth, you have to accept the truth."
- 2:42:40 Game sponsored by Super Coffee. They will divide into two teams. King of the Day chooses the pairs that will compete together. Each person in the pair will wear a sumo costume with a bag of Super Coffee attached to their back. Whoever is the first to successfully remove the bag of coffee from their opponent's back wins that round, and their team is awarded one point in the game. Once all the pairs have competed, the winners will compete to determine the final winner. Winning team gets one medal each. The rules say nothing about singing or having dancing breaks during each match, but the guys do so anyway.
- 3:21:20 PD asks everyone to change into swimming clothes and meet at the pool. Phuwin has to study, so he won't join for the next activity.
- 3:39:00 Neo reads the directions. They're going to play the Werewolf (ma paa) game. Between the 7 of them, they will randomly get assigned roles: 2 werewolves (who can kill people), 1 bodyguard (who can choose someone to protect from death each round), 1 seer (who can privately uncover the identity of one other player each round), 1 hunter (who, if they are killed, can choose one other person they suspect of being a werewolf to die with them), and 2 villagers. PD will be the narratoreferee. The game is basically between the werewolves and everyone else. Each round, in order, the narrator will instruct the werewolves to choose someone to kill, then the bodyguard to choose someone to protect, then the seer to privately uncover the identity of one other player. Then everyone must talk and decide on one person to kill out of suspicion of being a werewolf. If both werewolves are killed, the common people win. If there's at least one werewolf left at the end of the game, the werewolves win.
- [PD is a very dramatic and colourful narrator, which is why everyone is reacting to most of her lines throughout the game. Werewolf in Thai is "ma paa" and villagetownsperson is "chao baan," to help you guys understand what's going on. All the other roles are called in English, although sometimes they call the bodyguard "moh" which means doctor]
- 3:45:30 First game: Werewolves=Gun/Earth, Bodyguard=Neo, Seer=Khaotung, Hunter=Mix
- First round: No one dies
- Second round: Pond dies. They vote to kill Khaotung
- 4:04:45 Third round: No one dies. Neo says that Mix is a common person because he saved this round. They vote to kill Earth
- 4:13:30 Fourth round: Neo dies. They vote to kill Gun. Common people win.
- 4:19:00 Second game. They're no longer allowed to say whether they saved someone or not. Werewolves=Khaotung/Mix, Bodyguard=Gun, Seer=Luke, Hunter=Pond
- First round: Earth dies. They know someone is lying because too many people are claiming to be villagers. They think they should believe Neo because he was so honest last round. They vote to kill Khaotung.
- 4:34:10 Second round: Pond dies and choses to kill Mix with him. Common people win.
- 4:37:50 PD asks them to vote on the best and worst liar. They aren't sure yet, but Khaotung is voted the worst liar. Punishment is cleaning one of the bathrooms tomorrow.
- 4:41:15 Relaxing time. Neo gets thrown in the pool.
- 5:08:00 Fan talk
- Group 1: It's supposed to be the 4 top scorers on the medal board, but Khaotung is still showering, so Earth goes in his place because he's lowest. Neo did a bit more exercise with Luke this morning. They recap the walking doll game from the morning and how random and unpredictable it was. Mix was bitter that he felt like being King today was more of a burden than Luke's experience the previous day. Luke says it's probably because Mix's Thai is better, so they felt like using him for more jobs/tasks. They recap the cooking competition; Gun/Mix say they were lucky that they were on the team that had several options of people who knew how to cook. They talked about how the judging was biased, but Earth said that at the end, he had to admit the fact that Phuwin/Neo's dish was so sour that he could feel it in his brain. Gun/Mix were glad that they didn't have to wash dishes today because there were so many dishes to wash, and they made fun of Earth breaking the dish. They all enjoyed the sumo game. They started to regret that they started the singing/dancing gag, but they committed to it for entertainment purposes. They agreed that Khaotung is indeed the dark horse because no one expected him to be that quick in the sumo game. Everyone also had fun playing Werewolf.
- 5:18:45 Fan comments: They like how Gun seems like the eldest brother in the house, taking care of everyone. People made fun of Earth's childhood dish-breaking story. (The guys eventually start talking amongst themselves, mainly about how Earth doesn't think he has a chance to win anymore, and they say that there are many more opportunities for medals in the coming days, so anything can happen)
- 5:26:15 Group 2: They talk about how much Pond likes rice with Thai omelette [note: pretty much everyone in Thailand loves it, but Pond feels like eating it all the time], and he likes to make Phuwin make it for him in this house. They're all impressed with how good Khaotung was at the sumo game. Phuwin/Neo explain what happened during the cooking competition: Phuwin usually never eats "yum," but last week, his family made some but he didn't have any, so he regrets not having it so he would have a better idea of how to make it. Neo said he was just randomly putting things in without knowing for sure if they were supposed to go in. They made fun of Neo's dishwashing "technique." They recapped Werewolf, and everyone was unsure whether to trust/believe the things Neo says because he talks rubbish a lot.
- 5:32:45 Fan comments: They mention that this has turned into a pure comedy show. They like how everyone works together and the vibe isn't overly competitive.
- 5:37:00 Late-night meal. Menu includes fried chicken wings, spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti with bacon, sticky rice with pork, sandwich, pizza, more spaghetti, and minced pork wrapped with noodles.
- They feel like today was very full/busy, and they're all feeling tired, but they've had fun.
- 5:47:00 Earth and Neo say that they may not have many medals, but at least they're funny. They get up and try to entertain the rest of the guys.
- 5:52:45 Everyone bids farewell to Gun because it's his last night. Gun says to the audience, "Thank you so much for watching all of us these past three days. I hope you've enjoyed seeing our dynamics in this more relaxed environment. I hope you'll continue watching the rest of the guys for the rest of the days and see what fun is in store."

2024.05.21 15:33 eccarina Common electric items that are manually powered that are BIFL
Looking for recommendations / ideas on items, tools, appliances that we would normally seek an electric, battery, or otherwise powered version of where there is an equally good if not better manual version? One of my own personal ventures is to reduce my need for cords, cords, and more cords, and batteries.
I have a food processor which people normally would buy an electric version of but has a manual pull to run the grinder. Works well and fun to use.
Others? I’m wondering about watches, clocks, other low-powered devices? Open to solar power for devices near windows like lights?

2024.05.21 15:01 aznpersuazion Is the Michelin Guide Overrated?
My experience with Michelin in a complicated one. Having gone to one, two, and three Michelin star restaurants across the globe, I've seen Michelin do some great things for restaurants, but I've also seen them bring the demise of others.
Because it's quite apparent what good things come from being highlighted by Michelin, this post is more focused on some of my criticisms of the Michelin guide, and why I think the current structure of Michelin should be changed.
Maintaining "Michelin's definition" of the gold standard.. There have been a ton of amazing restaurants given a one star review. Restaurants don't even need to be "fine dining" to be given a Michelin star, as highlighted by some of the cheap eats that have received a one star review.
But a one star review, can at times, be a curse for restaurants. Often, restaurants receive one star reviews got there by showcasing there strengths. A passion for food and creativity, a desire to share culture or tradition, or an expression of a personal brand of art.
When a restaurant receives a one star review, two things happen. - They begin to get huge influx of customers. Initially.
- They start to be compared to other one star restaurants, sometimes even two or three star.
The majority of the time, when a restaurant receives a one star review, the rapidly get a ton of customers wanting to try them. And in just a few months, they start to raise prices. Because money can change people.
And eventually, they start to act as more of a "tourist attraction", and start to lose the original loyal clientele that brought them to where they were in the first place.
Secondly, they begin to compare themselves to the standards of other "higher" Michelin star restaurants.
And that typically means focusing more on a particular brand of fine dining. Hyper-attentive service, an overuse of "micro complex food"(emulsions, purees, colorful vegetation). Just to name a few.
I've seen this unfortunately happen time and time again.
If your customers wanted to go to a Eleven Madison Park, they'd travel to New York. But don't turn your restaurant into a chain of fine dining. You'll start to lose the allure, and it starts to feel like the routine of Mcdonalds or Capital Grille.

2024.05.21 14:46 Norgubban48 Moving from Philippines to Norway
Hello.
We are a family planning to move to Norway later this year. (September likely)
And we are currently trying to find out shipping cost of household items. (KitchenAid, meat slicer, food processor, desktop pc, several boxes of clothes, and probably a few other boxes.)
I have been flipping back and forth between selling, and packing many items. But living in the Phils, means we won't be able to get anywhere near what we paid for it, unless they can get a payment plan (which is going out the window the second we have left the country- my guess)
So, we were wondering of LCL versus postage or pay for extra luggage at the plane ?
We are also bringing our dog, so we have extra "cargo" there already. Haven't been travelling for 10+ years, so I don't know how much extra luggage one can bring on a plane?
Any advice here ?

2024.05.21 14:12 priya_dogra Commercial Heat Pump Water Heater Upgrade in Victoria
| While the governments across the globe seem to be focused on rapid adoption of zero-emission vehicles and solar panels to cut carbon emission, a new climate-tech hero has emerged on the scene — the heat pump. Though the first heat pump was created in the mid 19th century, the technology found its place in the spotlight only in the early 21st century. Why are heat pumps tech heroes? Unlike conventional technologies — which use gas or electricity for space heating/cooling and water heating — a heat pump pulls warmth from surrounding air (even if it is snowing outside), amplifies it, and pumps it inside to warm a space or water inside the water tank. The heat pumps are powered by electricity, but their energy output — in the form of water heating or space heating/cooling — is 3-5 times greater than the energy consumed. Since, we are currently offering upgrades under Victoria government commercial hot water rebates program, the rest sections of this blog will be focused on the commercial heat pump powered hot water systems and rebate application process. Commercial Heat pumps offered under Victoria government programs The Victoria government has set an ambitious target of 45-50 percent emission reduction — to 2005 emission levels — and net-zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this target, reducing emissions in the electricity sector — which accounted for 51.8% of Victoria's total net emissions in 2021 — becomes all important. About a quarter of the total electricity produced is consumed by commercial buildings in Australia, and appliances like water heaters, air conditioners and freezers are responsible for the highest energy use. Energy-efficient appliances can reduce the energy consumption and decarbonise commercial buildings by a large margin. The reduction achieved by achieving higher energy efficiency will in turn result in more energy and money savings for businesses and reduce their carbon footprints. If you run a business in Victoria state, achieving energy efficiency in your office/workplace building has never been so doable and budget friendly. The Victorian government —under the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program — is offering free replacement of your commercial electric boilers/water heaters with air-sourced heat pump powered commercial water heaters. The rebates are also on offer for replacement of gas-fired water heaters with heat pump units. The 3 to 5X energy efficiency achieved by heat pumps offer a great advantage for businesses who are looking to reduce their operating cost and carbon footprints. However, to achieve this, there are the following variables you need to factor in to achieve the maximum quantum of reduction in energy demand at your business: - COP (Coefficient Of Performance) of heat pump unit.
- Quality of installation.
- Size of heat pump system
- Energy star rating
- Compressor efficiency
- Type of compressor
- Insulation of pipes and water tank
- Warranty
Application of heat pump technology in Industrial & Commercial sector Heat pump technology is used in a range of industrial and commercial applications, such as: - Product heating and cooling in agro-based industries.
- Space heating and cooling in agriculture and industries
- Water heating and steam generation in industrial applications
- Pool water heating and cooling in swimming pools
- Air heating in agribusinesses and industries
- Drying, cooling, boiling, distillation, and blanching in food & beverages industries.
- Drying, melting and preheating in food processing applications
Upsides of commercial heat pump water heater Employing Heat pumps in commercial and industrial applications offers the following advantages: High energy-efficiency Commercial heat pumps offer 3–5 times COP (Coefficient of Performance) than their gas or resistance counterparts. This makes them suitable for reducing energy demand and energy bills of the various commercial and industrial processes. Low operating cost The cost of running heat pumps is always lower than gas-fired or electric boilers. Here is a comparison of the operating cost of various commercial heating technologies Comparing the operating cost of various commercial heating technologies. As we can see in this chart, a commercial air-source heat pump can deliver 1 GJ (gigajoules) of heat (when electricity is charged u/120/MWh) for $12.92. The resistive water heater delivers the same heat for $33.33 and gas-fired steam boilers deliver the same amount of heat for $30.60 (when electricity is priced @ $24/GJ) and for $15.65 (when electricity is priced @ $12/GJ). Low maintenance cost Rightly sized and installed heat pumps need less maintenance than their electric and gas counterparts. Maintenance is only required if the manufacturer has recommended replacing air filters and cleaning evaporator and condenser coils after a certain period of time. One can find the coils and filters replacement schedule in the product document supplied with the heat pump system. Lower emissions Due to higher energy-efficiency, heat pumps produce lower emissions even if the electricity grid is powered by the coal-fired power plants. As the Australian electricity grid is getting decarbonised every year and its emission factor (amount of CO2 per MWh of generated power) is expected to reduce to less than 0.3–0.45 t CO2/MWh by 2030, replacing resistive and gas-fired boilers/water heaters with heat pumps will deliver a substantial reduction in businesses and industrials sites. Pairing with solar panels Powering heat pumps with solar panels can further reduce operating cost of heat pumps and achieve the holy grail of climate conscious businesses — net-zero emissions. Integrating with thermal storage systems Integrating heat pumps with thermal storage units (such as insulated water tanks) offers several advantages, such as: - Reduced heat loss from the stored water.
- More efficiency
- More savings: thermal storage systems can be programmed to store thermal energy during off-peak hours and utilize it during peak hours. It saves money and reduces dependence on the electricity grid.
Safety benefits Heat pumps reduce fire hazards in commercial and industrial processes as they are fully electric and handling of combustible fuels/gasses (as in the case of gas-fired boilers) is not required. Downsides of heat pump water heaters Despite the above advantages that heat pump hot water systems offer, they are associated with the following drawbacks: Limited efficiency in colder climate As the heat pump systems are primed for sourcing warmth of outdoor or ambient air and transferring it to the sink (which may be a water tank or a space inside a building), the efficiency of heat pumps drops significantly when the outdoor air temperature falls below zero degree celsius. The sub-zero temperature conditions (during the winter months of June, July, and August) in Victoria state are not a concern, as the average temperatures range from 6.5 C to 14.2 C during these months. Limited output temperature Most commercial heat pump water heating units can achieve maximum output temperature in the 60 to 80 degree celsius range. Some heat pumps use auxiliary resistive heating (called booster) to increase the max output temperature range, but it makes them less efficient. Cost Heat pump technology based commercial water heaters are more expensive — than gas and electric — upfront. Businesses in Victoria can utilize the government rebates/incentives to reduce the upfront cost. Refrigerant consideration in commercial heat pumps Refrigerant’s global warming potential (GWP) and toxicity level are two key considerations that one needs to consider while choosing earth-friendly and safe commercial water heating systems. GWP is the heat trapping potential (relative to carbon dioxide) of a substance. A heat pump with carbon dioxide refrigerant has a GWP of 1. All natural refrigerants like CO2 (R744), propane (R290) and ammonia (R717) have low global warming potential. Among these natural refrigerants, carbon dioxide has a low toxicity level and ammonia — which is a flammable and corrosive gas — has a high toxicity level. Let us walk you through the upgrade process. Defrosting heat pump During normal operating conditions, air source heat pumps sources the warmth from ambient outdoor air and transfers it to a heat sink such as indoor space or water storage unit. However, in cold winter days when outdoor air temperature dips below freezing (0 °C) and wind speed is below 16 km/h, moisture in the air condenses into ice crystals, frost starts forming on the fins of evaporator coils of the heat pump. When the air temperature continues falling several notches below the zero degree Celsius, a thick layer of frost can form on the fins. At this stage, removing the frost is the only way to resume the heat transfer from outdoor air to a water tank or an indoor space. Commercial heat pump water heaters automatically defrost the evaporator fins by reversing the refrigeration flow. It is achieved by a four-way reversing valve (a solenoid coil operated valve) and heat pump sensors monitoring the air temperature and accumulation of frost on fins of evaporator coils. The reversing valve directs the passage of hot refrigerant from the compressor to the evaporator coils to melt the build-up of frost and ice. Some commercial air source heat pump water heating systems also have an auxiliary water tank to prevent heat loss in the main water tank during the defrost cycle. Most commercial heat pump water heaters employ a hot gas defrost method to defrost the evaporator coils. Unlike conventional technologies — which use gas or electricity for space heating/cooling and water heating — a heat pump pulls warmth from surrounding air (even if it is snowing outside), amplifies it, and pumps it inside to warm a space or water inside the water tank. submitted by priya_dogra to Australia_Govt_Rebate [link] [comments] |

2024.05.20 23:33 WideTimothy “All out to MIT”: Exploiting campus access at the MIT and Harvard camps
Why did Harvard protestors dismantle their own camp, while MIT’s camp was dismantled by police? One explanation I’ve heard is that Harvard showed patience, listened to students, and worked out a deal. I see a simpler explanation: Harvard closed its gates, MIT could not. MIT’s open campus was leveraged dangerously by visitors and made Harvard's hands-off approach impossible. I worry about how these events will change the open campus that most of us value.
The differences between Harvard and MIT's encampment risks are the focus of this post. To be clear, I am
not claiming that MIT students or administrators made the best or only decisions available. We don’t know what lay at the end of roads not taken.
Many at MIT have been closer to these events than me, so it helps if they can add other relevant facts in the comments. I try to use third-party sources, but I include protestor and admin sources where third parties exclude important details.
Events at Harvard Harvard Yard is fully fenced. During past protests and encampments, Harvard has closed all its gates.[1][2] Harvard shut the gates again well before its encampment began.[3] By restricting the Yard to Harvard ID access, Harvard’s administration could afford to be patient.
Once the camp began on April 24, the gates locked out visiting protestors and counterprotestors.[3][4] Harvard’s pro-camp and anti-camp students were free to escalate, and did many times, but they could not welcome other groups into the campus.[1]
On May 10, Harvard issued involuntary leaves to twenty remaining student campers and effectively locked them in the Yard. Suspended campers couldn’t enter through ID checkpoints, so leaving the Yard for any reason meant abandoning the camp. Within the Yard, campers lost access to bathrooms and food.[3][4] Under this duress, the four remaining residents of the camp submitted to Harvard’s demands and declared that the camp had “outlived its usefulness.”[3]
By tightly controlling access, Harvard had little to gain by bargaining with the camp and not much to lose by letting it be. Administrators successfully excluded visitors and later exercised their option to blockade the camp. In the end, their only real concession to the camp was to reconsider the suspensions.[3]
Events at MIT On April 21, MIT’s camp began on the Kresge lawn, one of the most accessible spaces on MIT’s campus. For two weeks, MIT camp stayed open to all and was peacefully managed, despite efforts by some to escalate and spark conflicts. Some anti-camp students and visitors sought to provoke campers into disputes and pressure MIT to intervene against the camp.[5] On May 1, some pro-camp students began to block arterial roads and organize unannounced secondary protests.[6] Each group sought to raise the cost of MIT’s inaction.
The “peaceful equilibrium” was cushioned by MIT camp marshals, police, faculty, and staff.[5] But it tipped on May 3, when the Israeli American Council and Boston's Party for Socailism and Liberation (BPSL) each called hundreds of visitors to dueling events around the campsite.[7][8][9] Actions by chapters of these groups were a prelude to the violence against campers at UCLA and the building occupation at Columbia.[10][11] Although marshals and police could keep the peace between small groups, the outside protests dwarfed all earlier events. Meanwhile, students negotiating for the camp
declared their basic demand non-negotiable, ending an option for settlement.[12][13]
Ahead of the dual protests, MIT tried to impose camp access controls. Unable to close the Kresge lawn to outside groups, MIT instead put tall construction fences around the camp to limit entrypoints and “maintain separation” between protests.[12][13][14] MIT Police added MIT ID checks several days later, creating the access conditions Harvard had from the start.[13][14] Pro-camp students took offense at these efforts. One student described “how tone-deaf it is to fence in people in people and add a checkpoint” to an encampment for Palestinian rights.[14]
On May 6, after a final round of negotiations failed, MIT demanded all students leave the camp or face interim suspensions.[12][13][15] Picking up notices by student groups, at least four outside groups published “
all out to MIT” broadcasts. One of these callouts came from a group advising followers to refuse negotiations, barricade buildings, and use black-bloc tactics to incite police crackdowns. Hundreds of MIT affiliates and visiting protestors amassed at the campsite and surrounded police.[16][17] In a simultaneous action aided by the BPSL, local high school students arrived for a rush-hour sitdown blockade of Mass Ave.[18][19][20] As crowds increased and actions multiplied, protestors demolished the fence and re-entered the camp en masse.[16][17]
The May 6 standoff proved everyone was right to worry about their respective worst cases. Clearly, no one controlled who showed up at the camp or on campus. Clearly, overtly violent groups had entered the fray, while others enlisted high schoolers to join in. Clearly, MIT was planning to end the camp. And clearly, protestors would reject efforts to control camp access and security. The actions on May 6 put de-escalation and life safety measures well beyond anybody’s reach.
A few days later, MIT suspended over twenty students, although students were still free to enter and leave the camp.[12][13] Unlike Harvard, MIT called state police to close the camp and arrest ten students who refused the option to leave.[12][13]
Holding the Gates Open Harvard locked out visiting protestors, locked in protesting students, and sapped the camp's remaining resolve. MIT initially allowed open access to the campsite, having few other options. When open access became unstable, students and visitors rejected the administration’s effort to impose access control.
It would be nice if skillful negotiation explained Harvard’s police-free resolution. But over the life of the two camps, the biggest difference is that Harvard kept its gates shut. There may have been other paths MIT could have taken, but Harvard’s path wasn’t one of them.
Generations of MIT students, staff, alums, police, administrators, and faculty have worked to keep MIT’s campus “aggressively ungated.”[21] During the encampment, our openness was weaponized against us. Visitors were summoned to escalate student actions and aggress members of our community. It seems “all out to MIT” tactics are here to stay, if the BPSL’s notices about other MIT protests this year are any indication.
Among many other hard questions that MIT faces right now, I wonder how we will be able to hold the gates open.

Is it just me or is the food in Montreal airport absolutely atrocious? I’m by no means a globe trotter so I haven’t experienced a huge amount of airport food but it seems exceptionally poor from what I’ve experienced.
