Forest dragons are peaceful. Their main diets consist of grass, moss, and fruits (if they eat enough of a type of fruit, their feathers will turn that color). They can't fly, their wings are used to help them balance when their climbing trees (they have very sharp claws that help them climb). Their around the size of deer, just a lot rounder. Forest dragons have very long, soft feathers which allows them to camouflage.

I recently got my hands on the Olympus EE-1 Red Dot Sight with Crosshair Reticle, and I must say, it has been a game-changer for my photography adventures. The EE-1 has made tracking fast-moving subjects much easier, especially during bird photography.
One of the standout features was the Center Aiming Dot. It was incredibly useful in capturing my subjects at the right angle, without losing sight of them. I've recently had the chance to try out the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope, a nifty piece of equipment for enthusiastic crossbow users like me. The scope's main highlight was its ability to find the range and calculate the correct trajectory for my crossbow bolts. In my experience, this feature proved to be quite handy in my local archery range, particularly for those days when the wind and temperature were unstable.
One of the things that stood out to me was the scope's robustness. It was designed to handle the harsh conditions of the outdoors, as evidenced by the sturdy aluminum body and the shock-resistant construction. This scope also offered a generous 4-inch eye relief, a feature that helped protect my eyes during those blustery hunting sessions.
The scope's lenses were fully-coated, making them highly resistant to glare, a common concern for crossbow users shooting in low-light conditions. Additionally, the durable leavespring for windage and elevation adjustments were a welcomed bonus, allowing me to finetune my shots with ease.
On the downside, one of the screws on the scope rings was stripped, a minor issue that wasn't a deal-breaker. I also discovered that the scope wasn't rated specifically for a particular crossbow speed. To achieve optimal accuracy, I had to adjust the scope manually, which was a bit tricky and time-consuming.
Regardless of these minor downsides, the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope proved to be an essential piece of equipment in my hunting arsenal. Its ease of use, durable construction, and helpful features make it an excellent choice for anyone seeking to upgrade their crossbow hunting experience.

I recently had the chance to give the Xs R3D 2.0 a try in my Desert Eagle Pistol, and I must say, it has been a game-changer for my shooting experience. In low-light environments, the sight really shines, thanks to the tritium front and rear glow dots that absorb ambient light. It's been a lifesaver during those late-night training sessions, and it certainly makes a difference when it comes to visibility.
One feature I especially appreciate is the wide notch rear with serrations and anti-reflective lens. It ensures that the sight never gets in the way during the shooting process, and it also blends in seamlessly with the gun's overall design. The corrosion-resistant black nitride surface finish is another plus, as it not only looks sleek but also adds durability to the product.
However, there are a couple of downsides to the Xs R3D 2.0. Firstly, the sight is a tad bulky compared to other models in the market. It might not be ideal for those who are looking for a more compact option. Secondly, the 3-dot tritium sight picture may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a personal preference that might be worth considering.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Xs R3D 2.0 has proven to be a reliable and high-quality sight for my pistol. Its performance in low-light conditions and the overall build quality have made it a valuable addition to my gun collection. So, if you're in the market for a top-of-the-line sight for your Desert Eagle Pistol, I'd highly recommend giving this one a try.

The Telrad Reflex Sight is a must-have accessory for stargazers and telescope enthusiasts. As someone who has been using it for a while, I can confidently say that it's a game-changer when it comes to finding celestial objects in the sky. One of the standout features for me is its deep red concentric circles, which make it easy to locate targets even in the darkest of nights.
Another aspect I truly appreciated is the mounting base, which securely attaches the sight to telescopes of all sizes. The on/off switch and the continuously adjustable brightness control are also incredibly convenient, ensuring that the sight is always set to the perfect brightness for observation.
However, one drawback I encountered is that the Telrad Reflex Sight can be quite heavy, making it challenging to carry around on outdoor adventures. Also, the mounting base could be more versatile, as it only works with a specific type of telescope.
Despite these minor issues, the Telrad Reflex Sight is a powerful tool for anyone looking to enhance their telescope experience. Its compact design, user-friendly features, and reliability make it worth considering for any stargazing enthusiast.

🔗Axis Target Sight RH: High-Performance 22 Bore Sight with Modular Adjustments

The elevation system on the Axis truly shines, as it effortlessly removes any unwanted play while maintaining smooth and rapid adjustments. The sight's mounting feels secure and its easy adjustments are much appreciated.
Additionally, the Windage Tube Clamp locating collar makes traveling with my scope much easier, as I can remove and reinstall it with no hassle. The interchangeable sight scales and multiple axis adjustments add a nice layer of customization to my experience.
However, the micro adjusters could benefit from a locking mechanism to prevent accidental tweaks. Also, having zero backlash would be a significant improvement, especially for precise adjustments.

When hunting, I've found the CBE Engage Hybrid Sight 1 Pin. 010 LH to be a reliable and efficient tool. The dovetail mounting system and Quick Track design utilizing delrin tracks make it user-friendly and easy to set up. The Rapid Drive feature keeps it securely in place, ensuring accuracy during my shots.
The 2nd and 3rd axis adjustment has made it easy for me to refine my aim, leading to a higher success rate. However, one downside has been the weight at 1 lb, which can become a little cumbersome during long periods of hunting.
Overall, the CBE Engage Hybrid Sight has been a trusty companion on my hunting adventures.

The EE-1 is designed to mount onto a camera's hot shoe, which ensures a snug and secure fit. Plus, its dustproof and splash-proof design has kept it safe from the elements during my outdoor shoots.
However, there were a few cons that I experienced while using this product. The adjustment wheels for the brightness and position of the dot are slightly vulnerable to movement during shooting, which could lead to maladjustment. Another issue I faced was the difficulty in turning off the LED when the sight is collapsed for storage, as it can consume battery power.
Overall, the Olympus EE-1 Red Dot Sight with Crosshair Reticle has been a valuable addition to my photography kit. Its innovative features have greatly improved my ability to capture moving subjects, despite the few minor flaws.

The Rapid Drive feature keeps it securely in place, ensuring accuracy during my shots.

2024.05.21 06:51 caonguyen9x A look at the Brotherhood of Steel Structures and comparison to development of nomadic tribes into feudalism.

Look at the collapse of the Roman Empire to see why . After the Roman Empire collapsed, feudal society with knightly order emerge because they are more efficient. They can solve the local information problem. Nobody care about the Roman Empire at its dying day because the Roman Empire can't solve the people problems anymore, it can't help it people, look after them, protect them, feed them. In the past, Empire solve its problem by maintaining a large bureaucracy at the cost of efficiency, time & resource. They do this for the purpose of centralization & monopolization of powers. When resource run low, an important pillar is cracking and the rest followed. The NCR suffer the same problems.
The Brotherhood of Steel don't care about nation building. They split among themself out regularly, especially in term of ideological differences. They just split themself into a new chapter and send them on their way with minimal support so it doesn't become an intense civil war. Very similar to a nomadic tribes. When a tribes get too big and competition among it members get to intense, the tribes split itself with it new members move to a new location to live. All those tribes that we refer as Brotherhood of Steels are so difference in ideological stance that refer to them a single united faction on the level of organization of NCR is just wrong. They fight among themself regularly (Outcast vs Lyon's Brotherhood). We take at look the structure of nomadic tribes and the BoS chapters system match perfectly. Nomadic tribes travel regularly, surviving based on hunting & scavenging, foraging. The BoS survived on hunting, tech caches that they scavenged on their travel, trading low level technology; goods; expertise for food.
Caesar was dead on when he refer to the BoS as tribes, the scribes captured out east by the Legion didn't even know the name of their founder for the same reason you can't recall the name of your ancestor. The Brotherhood of Steel are a nomadic confederations of tribes like the Cumans-Kipchak. The BoS Elder Council is their version of Cuman-Kipchak confederations council of Khans. The Elder of a chapters is basically a tribe leadea Khan. Once there is a strong enough martial leader emerge. They will follow that leader, but they will spent most of the time bickering among themself.
The BoS have no centralized power. It doesn't have a capital to nuke or to fed. It leaders, soldier and retinue travelling with blimp and Vertibird evoke the image of the Mongol Horde pulling the Yurt of their Great Khan with their mounted warrior traveling alongside. The vertibirds of the Brotherhood of Steel is horses is to the Mongol - Nomads.
The recent emergent of the BoS into a nation is the development of nomadic tribe into a feudal state. From a nomadic knightly organization that extract resource for protection from the local populace into a Ordenstaat ( Order-State - See the State of Teutonic Knight Order) is a natural progression. Similar to how the Nomadic Turk destroyed the local powers then settled to rule the local or the barbarian Germanic tribe that sacked Rome that settled in the Roman Empire old land become new European Kingdoms.

I've been using the InfiRay Rico G-LRF 640 50mm Thermal Clip On Scope in my outdoor adventures, and it's been quite the game-changer for me. One of the standout features is the precision laser range-finding module. It ensures accurate measurement up to 1000 yards, which has really helped me in my hunt for game.
The 1024×768 AMOLED display provides a crisp, high-contrast image, making it easier for me to spot my quarry, even in the harshest conditions. I also love the fact that it comes with two batteries right out of the box, saving me the trouble of making a trip to the store for extra power.
However, there's one thing I wish was different – the battery life could be longer. That being said, the performance I've experienced with this thermal scope has made it well worth the investment.

🔗InfiRay Mini V2 Thermal Imager: Compact, Powerful, and Easy to Use

https://preview.redd.it/t7ehr9j8ip1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be388ad07acc6f229d02d666c24f53180dc08d91
I recently had the chance to try out the InfiRay Outdoor MINI MH25 V2 thermal imager, and let me tell you, it was quite an experience. The first thing that caught my attention was its sleek, lightweight design, perfect for both handheld and helmet-mounted use. The seamless transition between handheld and helmet-mounted operation was a game-changer for me.
One of the most remarkable features of this thermal imager is its next-generation MATRIX III processing, which delivers an unmatched viewing experience. The upgraded AMOLED display, along with the eyepiece and onboard video and audio recording, truly enhanced my overall experience. While the power supply options might seem straightforward, they are essential for the device's functionality. The unique housing material made of aluminum and ABS adds to the durability and overall aesthetic appeal.
Although the InfiRay MINI MH25 V2 offers digital magnification up to 8X, it's crucial to note that the optical magnification is only 1X. Additionally, some users might find the manual focus mechanism a bit less convenient. Nonetheless, the device's image capture and onboard recording capabilities along with the user-updatable firmware certainly make up for it.
In conclusion, the InfiRay Outdoor MINI MH25 V2 is a versatile thermal imager that offers a range of features to enhance the user experience. Personally, the seamless operation, powerful processing, and overall build quality stood out to me. However, the manual focus and slightly higher price point may deter some potential users.

I've been using the Covert Optics ThermX HS1 Thermal for a while now, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer. I've had some thrilling experiences using this thermal scope. The black Lepton 3.5 micro core sensor with 160x120 sensor resolution and a 9hz frame rate has been remarkable in detecting even the slightest of movements. It's like having an extra pair of eyes when you're out in the woods!
This device is perfect for both day and night hunting situations. The 1.5" OLED color display with 160x128 resolution is so vivid, it provides remarkable clarity even in low light conditions. It's just like having a cinematic view of the world around you.
One of the things I love about this product is its simplicity. The 3-button control system is a breeze to navigate. It's like having a remote control for the real world. You can easily change settings, adjust the display palette, and even adjust the brightness to suit any lighting situation.
The HS1 is compact, lightweight and can be easily mounted. I've used it for tracking game and detecting predators, and it has worked wonders for me. I have to say, I'm a fan.
However, one thing I didn't like about it is there were some issues with the video sticking every now and then. I found it a bit frustrating, especially when I was tracking an animal, and it suddenly froze on the screen.
Overall, the Covert Optics ThermX HS1 Thermal is a fantastic tool for any hunter. It provides clear, accurate, and reliable images, making wild game detection a breeze. Remember, practice makes perfect, so don't be discouraged if you encounter some initial issues.

I recently had the opportunity to try the Hikmicro M11W thermal imaging camera with a fixed focus lens. This handheld device was designed for professional inspections of large objects, particularly those where a wider field of view is necessary to capture more of the scene in a single picture.
Its 192 x 144 resolution thermal detector and 37.5° x 27.9° fixed focus lens are impressive features that stood out to me. The high-resolution 3.5-inch touchscreen displayed crisp, clear images and made camera operations quite intuitive. I particularly liked the multiple image modes available - thermal, optical, fusion, and picture-in-picture; they allowed me to make accurate temperature measurements and quantify the impact of potential faults.
The M11W's sensitivity of 40 mK (NETD), as well as its Super IR resolution, provided a distinct thermal vision of the target. The camera also came with a laser spot, which made it easier to narrow down and focus on specific areas of interest. Overall, I found the Hikmicro M11W to be a reliable and efficient tool for large-object inspections.

🔗Burris BTH35 V2 Thermal Imaging Scope: 3.3-13.2x Magnification and 400x300 Resolution

I recently had the chance to take the Burris BTH BTH35 V2 Thermal Imaging Handheld out on a hunting trip, and I must say, it was a game-changer. The device's hot track feature allowed me to track animals in their natural habitat with ease, making them more visible in low light conditions.
Its 10 reticle options provided me with the flexibility to choose the perfect aiming assistant for my eyes and shooting style. After spending a few hours using this device, I discovered that it held up quite well in varying weather conditions, thanks to its IP67 weatherproof rating. One area where it could improve, however, is the battery life, as 5 hours might be a bit short for extended outings in cold weather.
Nevertheless, this thermal imaging handheld device proved to be an excellent companion during my recent hunting trip.

I recently had the chance to try out the InfiRay Rico Micro 384 2x 25mm Multi in my daily life, and let me tell you, it made a huge difference. The first thing I noticed was how lightweight it was, weighing less than a pound. I found it easily fit in my palm, and it gave me the freedom to use it in multiple ways – handheld, helmet mount, and even rifle-mounted.
What truly sets this device apart from others is its advanced thermal technology. It's packed with features such as onboard recording, playback, and high definition AMOLED display, all of which are unheard of in helmet-mounted thermals. It also comes with a state-of-the-art 384x288, 12 μm sensor, making it so much more accurate compared to other thermals on the market.
However, I did notice that sometimes the manual-focus f/1.0 objective lens could be a bit tricky to handle, but overall, it's a small price to pay for the wealth of features this device offers. And I'm definitely looking forward to using it during hunting season!

🔗Raptor RQ50LN: Advanced 940 NM IR Thermal Imaging Camera for Outdoor Exploration

https://preview.redd.it/3cjvp6saip1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04bdfebec66f2f1c8a0ca8892fe79e25801184e8
I recently got my hands on the HikMicro Raptor RQ50LN 940 nm IR, and let me tell you, it's a game changer when it comes to outdoor activities. Whether you're hunting for game in the nighttime or tracking a hiker on a mountain, this little guy can handle it all.
The best part is the adjustable 940 nm infrared lamp. It works day and night, and the thermal imaging is just incredible - it helps you spot even the smallest animals or people from miles away. The lens size of 50mm doesn't hurt, either.
However, it's not all roses. The Raptor is a bit bulky, and the battery life could use some tweaking. But when you're in the wilderness, a little bulkiness and need for some battery swaps are worth it for the unmatched performance.
Overall, the HikMicro Raptor RQ50LN 940 nm IR has become my go-to for outdoor adventures, and I can't imagine going back to the old ways of hunting and tracking without the added benefits of this powerful thermal imaging camera.

I recently had the chance to give the Pulsar Proton FXQ30 Thermal Handheld Front Attachment a try, and let me tell you, the experience was both enlightening and thrilling! This nifty little gadget is a perfect companion for all those who love outdoor activities like hunting or pest control.

While it may not be the smallest gadget in my kit, the Proton FXQ30 makes up for its size with versatility. It's compatible with several devices and comes with a convenient video recorder, a long-lasting battery, and even WiFi functionality. Just imagine, you can connect it to your smartphone or tablet using the free Stream Vision app – now that's a feature I can't get enough of!
However, there's a small catch. I noticed that the image quality isn't always perfect and sometimes could be a bit grainy. Nonetheless, I believe the pros far outweigh the cons, making this a worthy investment for any outdoor enthusiast.

🔗HikMicro Raptor RH50LN 940 nm IR Thermal Imaging Camera: Powerful Multi-Functional Outdoor Scope

https://preview.redd.it/tjd3udubip1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6d7806d3eb535917b99c5bfa7090dbace1258a7

It's a digital binocular with a thermal imaging module and an optical module, all powered by a 940 nm infrared lamp. That means it's not just great for daytime viewing, but also brilliant at night. I took it out on a hike, and it made the forest come alive with detail.
One thing I especially love is the laser rangefinder on this baby. It can measure distances up to 1000 meters! Talk about precision. And let's not forget about the GPS and compass features that help you figure out where you are and where you're going.
But that's not all. This little wonder is housed in a rugged magnesium casing that's both lightweight and durable. It's perfect for long outdoor sessions, and the 3 18650 batteries it comes with are more than enough to power it through.
However, nothing's perfect. The Raptor has a 25 Hz refresh rate, which might not be the smoothest in its class. But honestly, in my experience, I haven't notice a significant impact on the overall image quality.
All in all, the HikMicro Raptor is a powerful and versatile tool for any outdoor enthusiast. Its multitude of features, coupled with its high-quality durability, makes it a must-have for anyone looking to enhance their outdoor experiences.

2024.05.21 04:43 ddd5050 Other Farming Games

Ok, now that I have your attention:
There was a subscription-based 3rd person farming game that focused on realism that existed in the mid-2000s that I cannot remember for the life of me.
It’s not SimFarm, John Deere American Farmer, or any mainstream title. It was surely from some small European dev. I recall realistic models and lots of menu diving, but you could do anything from harvest and plant grain crops to potatoes. All 3rd person perspective. Ring a bell for anyone?

2024.05.21 00:55 Successful_Cut5317 Dungeon Dungeon Fruit

The Dungeon Dungeon Fruit is a paramecia-type devil fruit that allows the user to become a living dungeon, making them a Dungeon Master.

Strengths

Upon consuming the Dungeon Dungeon Fruit, the user will gain a permanent pocket dimension of a dungeon within themselves which they are able to customise however they like. The user can teleport people and objects into their dungeon through touch, shrinking them down and transporting them into the dungeon's interior.
The user also gains the ability to transform their body into a full-size dungeon matching the pocket dimension one as it is just the pocket dimension one expanding into the world and transforming the user into the building. If the user is above ground their dungeon will resemble a tower as it towers above the ground with its height dependent on the number of flours the user has created. If the user does it above ground the dungeon's rules of floors get flipped and the lower floors are weaker with the higher ones being stronger. Also, there will be an entranceway for people to enter or exit at the bottom of the "tower" form. If the user is underground their dungeon will meld with the environment and go down with the height dependent on the number of flours the user has created, additionally, the user will rise or sink to have an opening on the surface marking the entrance into the dungeon. When transformed the user has complete control over the dungeon, allowing them to manipulate its structure, features, and contents as if it were an extension of their own body. The user can enhance the durability of their dungeon, fortifying it against environmental hazards and potential threats.
Inside the dungeon, the user is able to create anything that can be found in a dungeon, including but not limited to, weapons, monsters, treasures, puzzles, traps, etc. The user is able to take out their creations however they must keep physical contact with it constantly and if they don't it will disappear and reappear back in their dungeon when the user has the energy to create it again.
Inside the dungeon, the user has absolute control capable of creating and controlling anything and everything in relation to dungeons.

Weaknesses

Standard devil fruit weaknesses apply.
Floors: The user has to separate the structure of their dungeon into floors, with every floor down able to create stronger entities and items with more elaborate and stronger traps and treasures.
Creatures: The creatures that the user creates in the dungeon are able to be influenced and controlled by the user's direct orders but anything besides the user's direct orders can possibly be disobeyed or dismissed by the creatures.
Outside contact: Items and creatures that the user made within their dungeon will turn into dust once they are apart from the user. Meaning that an item or creature can be taken out but only partially. The user can take out a sword and use it as a weapon but once they discard it or it no longer makes physical contact with them it will start to turn to dust.
Energy: It takes energy for the user to make anything within the dungeon be it items, monsters, or even them manipulating the dungeon to their will to make the impossible happen, or even remake the dungeon and its contents. The stronger the things/creatures that they create the more energy it will cost the user.
Space & Haki: Strong haki can neutralize creatures within the dungeon and make passage throughout the dungeon really easy, additionally any space manipulation can enable people the ability to escape from the user's Dungeon unless the user is constantly twisting space to prevent them from doing this.
'Magic': The dungeon is filled with the user's energy which they can use like magic. The 'Magic' within the dungeon can only ever be the user's energy that they used to create phenomenon, it is not real magic but the user using their ability to create anything within the dungeon. Haki can disrupt this energy and make the user's control over the dungeon unstable/erratic and it acts as a kind of anti-magic.
Destruction: Vistors can destroy the dungeon and trigger a full-scale collapse in order to get out of the dungeon quickly.
Dungeon Limit: The Dungeon can be of any size be it 1 floor, 10 floors, 100 floors or even 10,000 floors as many as the user wants, and these floors can be as big or as small as the user wants with space distorting to the users will. As well as the contents being however the user wishes them to be. However, the user is limited to having only one Dungeon created at a time.

Techniques:

The core of the Dungeon: This technique allows the user to merge their physical form with their dungeon, becoming the true core and centre of the Dungeon. When activated, the user's body undergoes a transformation, imbuing them with the visual appearance of their dungeon while retaining their base form's humanoid shape. The user appears as their usual self but with subtle manifestations of their dungeon's architecture spread across their entire body visible both internally and externally. Parts of the user's body may take on a spectral or ethereal quality, resembling stone, wood, or other materials found within their dungeon. Floors within the dungeon will be visible on the user's body and the user can interact with them like normal. While in this state, the user's control of their dungeon and sense of the dungeon as a part of their body is strengthened, granting them unparalleled control over its features and inhabitants. They can sense disturbances, manipulate the environment, and summon forth creatures or objects from within their domain with ease. The user's thoughts and intentions shape the very fabric of their dungeon, allowing them to adapt and respond to any situation. The Core of the Dungeon technique offers numerous tactical advantages. In addition to serving as a formidable defensive measure, it enables the user to access their dungeon's resources and defences instantaneously. They can summon forth weapons, traps, or allies as needed instantaneously. Additionally, the strongest part of this technique is that the user is able to take on the full condition of the dungeon allowing them to be as durable as the entire dungeon combined, as smart as the entire dungeon combined, and the user is able to draw on all the strength of the entire dungeon, etc.
Dungeon Gate: The user is able to create a portal on any part of their body, this portal can connect to anywhere within their dungeon. The user can use this to take out something or someone from their dungeon temporarily, the user can also use this to make an opening for one of their creatures to attack from the portal or to take out an item.
Treasure: The user can create valuable items or weapons from their dungeon and bring them into the real world by maintaining physical contact. However, these items will disappear if contact is broken.
Dungeon Master's Clarvoiant Gaze: The user can see through the eyes of any creature or object within their dungeon, providing them with complete surveillance of their domain. Although this can be very helpful to the user to help them survey their dungeon as if they are all seeing, without training, they will have no attention of their surroundings and may be ambushed in their distraction.
Monster Maker: The user manifests fearsome creatures within their dungeon, bringing them to life from the depths of their imagination. By channelling their energy and focusing their will, the user can create a wide variety of monsters, each with unique abilities, characteristics, and behaviours. These creatures serve as guardians, minions, or challenges within the dungeon, obeying the user's commands and defending their domain against intruders. To create a creature the user goes through three steps; Visualization, Energy Channeling, and Materialization. Firstly the user begins by visualizing the creature they wish to create, envisioning its form, size, and attributes in vivid detail. They draw upon their knowledge of mythology, folklore, and imagination to craft a truly unique monster. Then with a focused mind and a surge of energy, the user channels their power into the creation process, infusing the imagined creature with life force. This energy serves as the catalyst for bringing the creature into existence within the dungeon. Lastly, as the energy takes shape, the creature materializes within the user's dungeon, emerging from the depths as a tangible entity. The user can control the creature's appearance, abilities, and behaviour to suit their needs and objectives. The user can make any type of monster that they like, the only limit is their energy and their imagination, but some examples include; Beasts: Ferocious creatures such as dire wolves, giant spiders, or griffins, possessing keen senses and formidable physical abilities. Undead: Reanimated corpses, skeletal warriors, or spectral apparitions, instilling fear and dread in those who encounter them. Elementals: Living embodiments of natural elements, including fiery salamanders, watery serpents, or earthen golems, each with unique elemental powers. Aberrations: Bizarre and otherworldly entities, such as tentacled horrors, shape-shifting mimics, or mind-controlling aberrations, capable of confounding and terrifying intruders. Constructs: Artificial beings crafted from magical or mechanical components, ranging from clockwork automatons to golems forged from enchanted stone or metal. They can also create many more, but these are only some examples. The user can control their creations in multiple ways and command them to act together; The user can maintain their control over the monsters they create, commanding them with their will and asserting their dominance as the Dungeon Master. The monsters obey the user's orders without question, serving as loyal guardians or relentless assailants. Also, the user can tailor the behaviour and objectives of the monsters to suit their needs, directing them to patrol specific areas, guard valuable treasures, or attack intruders on sight. The main limitations of Monster Maker are its energy consumption, maintenance, and the limits of the user's control, just meaning that the monsters can possibly rebel if they are strong enough and the user has mistreated them.
Fake Floor: The user creates a temporary floor within their dungeon that can hold illusions, making it seem like a normal, physical floor with traps, monsters, or treasures. All of the illusions on this floor seem real and can actually work to a degree on this floor with illusions capable of causing damage (although weaker than normal and unable to cause any damage if the illusion is seen through) and even treasures appearing to work within the fake floor, but upon exit of the fake floor, they will find out that everything they gained from the floor was but an illusion.
Safe Floor: The user creates a temporary floor within their dungeon that can act as a sanctuary for those within the dungeon. This floor is imbued with a protective aura that prevents any monsters or hostile entities from entering. Additionally, it has a restorative effect, healing anyone inside over time. The effect of keeping monsters out acts as a semi-permeable barrier and can be broken or pierced by high-ranking creatures.
Exit Floor: The user creates a temporary floor within the dungeon in between any floor that they want that allows visitors to leave the dungeon. The Exit floor will appear at the end of every dungeon and will be the turnaround point for the visitor(s) allowing them to go back into the dungeon from the start, where they came from, or even leaving the dungeon entirely.
Empty Floor: The Empty Floor is the start and the end of the dungeon, it will always be present and from here the user can create the dungeon, store whatever they want to, keep others safe here, etc. The empty Floor will be present even when the dungeon is destroyed, it can never be destroyed except with the death of the user. This floor is free from all laws, no laws from the universe exist in this space without the user making them. No laws not even life, death, time, space, reality, cause and effect are present within this floor without the user making them exist. In the case of Life and death do not exist here letting those who die in the dungeon live here should the user want them to, the user can even reincarnate them into a creature however this would make them completely reliant on the dungeon and die should they leave the dungeon and the connection with the user. Anyone within this floor is capable of moving throughout the dungeon as they please and even leave as they, please.
Dungeon Collapse: The user can start a dungeon collapse, making their dungeon and all of its floors begin to collapse, starting from its first floor and going to its last floor. Space will begin to distort and the monsters will either flee to other floors in order to survive a little longer or crumble to dust from the cataclitic wave of destruction that the user set in motion. The user can send any creatures that they wish to survive into the Empty Floor. Any visitor within the Dungeon will have to flee from the dungeon collapse as quickly as they can and reach the exit, if they cannot make it in time then they will be heavily wounded and possibly killed by the collapse of the dungeon depending on debre, and they will wake up in the Empty Floor dead or alive.
Treasure Trove: The user can create hidden chambers within their dungeon filled with valuable treasures and artefacts. These chambers can only be accessed through secret passages or by solving intricate puzzles. Creating elaborate treasures consumes a significant amount of the user's energy.
Gate: The user can create temporary portals within their dungeon that allow instant travel between different locations. These portals can be used for rapid deployment of allies or for quick escapes. Gates require precise control and consume a large amount of energy. Misuse can lead to unintended destinations or portal malfunctions.

Awakening:

With the awakening of the Dungeon Dungeon Fruit, the user can now use their abilities on a much larger scale, with their mind finally caught up with their powers, their powers are able to affect the world around them spreading much further than their body once stopped them. Their power spills over into the world around them, letting them expand their dungeon into the environment shaping it to their desire. The user is able to extend their abilities to what could be considered impossible or illogical, empowering old techniques to new heights and creating new ones that were not possible before.

Awakening Techniques:

Heart of the Dungeon: Similar to "The Core of the Dungeon," the Heart of the Dungeon allows the user to merge their physical form with their dungeon, but it comes with even greater powers and capabilities. When the user activates the Heart of the Dungeon, they gain the extraordinary ability to morph and reshape their immediate surroundings to form the intricate corridors, chambers, and traps of their dungeon. This transformation is both fluid and immediate: walls sprout from the ground, ceilings stretch overhead, and floors ripple like liquid, all under the user's absolute control. The entire dungeon environment responds to the user's movements and commands, making it a living extension of their will. Moreover, the Heart of the Dungeon bestows upon the user the power to draw strength from everything within their dungeon. This includes the treasures hidden within its depths, the creatures that inhabit its halls, and the traps laid to ensnare intruders. Every element of the dungeon, whether animate or inanimate, contributes to the user's power, enhancing their physical abilities, powers, and overall resilience.
Dungeon break: The user is able to create a gate that connects to the inside of their dungeon and then releases whatever they want, may it be the creatures, treasures, or even the dungeon itself causing space to distort and merge the dungeon with the world around them. Creatures will pour out of the gate in a stampede, treasures and items can pour out of the gate like a sea of gold, and the dungeon can expand out of the gate like a crawling calamity. The gate while being a spatial distortion can still be broken with enough force. Once the gate(s) are closed then the creatures, items, and/or dungeon will be sucked back into the gate returning to the user's dungeon.
Authority: The user is able to grant a portion of their authority to people they brought into the dungeon or any creature they want, allowing them to control the creatures and the contents of a specific floor.
Living Dungeon: The user can create a 'living' dungeon that adapts to intruders, capable of thought and acting in the best interest of the user and their dungeon. Capable of dynamically generating obstacles and challenges to test visitors specifically based on their observed strengths and weaknesses.
Trap Reave: With a single gesture, the user can implant numerous traps in their immediate environment or even within themselves that can then be activated and affect those nearby. These traps can have a multitude of hidden triggers and can be adjusted to be more potent, and capable of protecting larger areas with complex mechanisms.
Mini-Dungeon Core: The user creates a crystal-like smooth ball that contains a Dungeon within it, anyone who touches this mini-dungeon core will be drawn into the dungeon within and have to clear the dungeon to escape. However, since this is a mini-dungeon core it has a few limitations, firstly the dungeons in the mini-dungeon core can only have a maximum of 10 floors, additionally, the mini-dungeon core can be broken out of with either strong haki, spatial abilities, or any abilities that allow someone to break the crystal balls shell and release those trapped within it.

Awakening Weaknesses:

Energy: The vast expansion of power and control can be incredibly draining, meaning the user could risk total exhaustion or burnout if they use these abilities too frequently or for extended periods of time.
Heart of the Dungeon: While the user is merged with their dungeon the dungeon will be taking damage directly making every hit they take shake the dungeon and possibly collapse it. Additionally when the user is using a creature(s) and they take a serious hit that creature will die if that hit is strong enough to kill the creature(s). The same applies to treasures.
Dungeon Awareness: The user may need to split their awareness to monitor the larger area of effect of their dungeons and mini-dungeons, which can leave them blind to certain regions or overextended in their vigilance.
Waning Authority: Granting authority to too many individuals could dilute the user's overall control and open up the possibilities for internal conflict or sabotage.
Gate Fragility: The gates, while powerful and useful, are a lifeline for the user and their comrades getting in and out of the dungeon. The gates themselves are fragile and can be destroyed with enough strength or anyone capable of cutting space temporarily severing the user's lifeline in and out of the dungeon and cutting off a large amount of their powers until another can be made.
Dungeon Dissonance: The larger-scale dungeon transformations(brought into the environment) may not be as finely tuned as smaller-scale manipulations leading to instability or flaws that clever opponents can exploit.
Complexity: As old techniques are powered to new heights, the complexity of managing and understanding them also increases, which can lead to mistakes or malfunctions in their execution. Or it can just make it where the user is unable to make new techniques for most techniques.
Sensory Feedback: When the user possesses a creature they feel everything their controlled creatures feels, and then they might suffer from sensory overload or distraction during critical moments.

PAL sets sights on India flights
MANILA, Philippines — Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is exploring the possibility of launching direct flights to India to capture the emerging demand for connections to South Asia.
PAL president and chief operating officer Stanley Ng told reporters the airline is considering to mount Manila flights to India as soon as it gets out of the supply crunch that it is dealing with.
The carrier aims to snare the Philippine demand for South Asian flights in its plan to reach India, especially as it is bringing in new aircraft in the latter half of the decade, allowing it to look into opportunities for network expansion.
However, the airline has to overcome the supply crunch the aviation industry is facing right now. Ng said PAL can only launch direct flights to India once it recovers its grounded jets.
At present, airlines are receiving their jet orders behind schedule, as manufacturers are struggling to deliver their backlog of commitments to operators from around the globe. The situation is also worsened by the long queue of carriers waiting to get their jet engines fixed.
Aviation supplier Pratt & Whitney is recalling the engines it made for Airbus A320neos to repair a manufacturing defect, forcing airlines to ground their aircraft of the same model.
The supply crunch may also postpone its initial plan of resuming Manila trips to Sapporo, with Ng saying he is doubtful if PAL can get enough aircraft to offer new routes.
PAL is eyeing to resume Manila flights to Sapporo and Cebu trips to Osaka within the year, but this plan will depend on when the airline can retrieve parked aircraft and take in new units.
“We have to get the engines first for Sapporo and, hopefully, for India. [We want to get to] India because there is a market and it is growing,” Ng said.
Last week, PAL announced that it has entered into a wet lease agreement with European carrier Wamos Air for the rental of two Airbus A330-200s. The airline will deploy the Wamos Air jets to operate the Manila flights to Melbourne and Sydney for five months starting June 1.
The carrier owned by taipan Lucio Tan is strengthening its fleet to ensure that it can keep up with the demand for air travel in the pandemic aftermath.
For 2024, PAL is spending $450 million for capital expenditures to bring in new aircraft and renovate existing jets, particularly 18 A321ceos, placing them with new seats and upgrading their in-flight entertainment.

Julian Assange wins right to appeal against extradition to US
Julian Assange has been granted leave to mount a fresh appeal against his extradition to the US on charges of leaking military secrets and will be able to challenge assurances from American officials on how a trial there would be conducted.
Two judges had deferred a decision in March on whether Assange, who is trying to avoid being prosecuted in the US on espionage charges relating to the publication of thousands of classified and diplomatic documents, could take his case to another appeal hearing.
On that occasion, Dame Victoria Sharp and Mr Justice Johnson ruled he would be able to bring an appeal against extradition on three grounds, unless “satisfactory” assurances were given by the US.
The assurances requested were that he would be permitted to rely on the first amendment of the US constitution, which protects freedom of speech; that he would not be “prejudiced at trial” due to his nationality; and that the death penalty would not be imposed.
There were gasps of relief from his wife and supporters at the high court in London on Monday as judges granted him leave to challenge his extradition on the grounds of whether removal would be compatible with the right to freedom of expression under the European convention on human rights, regarded as having the functional equivalent of the US first amendment, and on the grounds that he might be prejudiced at his trial or punished by reason of his nationality.
The judges accepted that there was an arguable case that he could be discriminated against, after being told that an US prosecutor has said the first amendment may not apply to foreigners when it came to national security issues.

2024.05.20 21:20 JollyCuttlefish Anyone in the UK want to try Run Archery?

If you don't know run archery is a biathlon event combining Running and Archery, which has only been introduced to the UK in the last few years, and the Run Archery European Cup will be hosted in the UK for the first time this October.
A Run Archery Sprint race works like this: Run - 400m Standing shoot - up to 6 arrows to hit 4 targets Run - 60m penalty lap for each target missed Run - 400m Kneeling shoot - up to 6 arrows to hit 4 targets Run - 60m penalty lap for each target missed Run - 400m with a sprint to the finish line First across the line wins!
I did an event last year and loved it, there's something really different about trying to shoot straight with your heart still racing from trying to catch up to the person ahead of you (or trying to keep ahead of the person behind you).
Targets are 16cm diameter at 18 metres, either hit or miss, no scoring, just extra running if you miss. In terms of running ability if you can run a 5km/parkrun then you would be fine.
If you're interested in trying it then my club Deer Park Archers (near Cheltenham) will be hosting a Run Archery Sprint event Sat 22nd June, booking available here: https://bookwhen.com/dpaopenevents#focus=ev-s6gh-20240622090000 (also includes an option for non-archers with a have-a-go session before the races start, so if you have any running friends who might be interested you can get them involved)
There's also 2 other events I know of this year:
Redhill Archers, Birmingham - Sun 1st September (date to be confirmed)
European Cup, Nottingham - October Sat 12th- Sun 13th This will also include the 4km version (similar to the sprint but more running!) and sprint relay races.
If you are aware of any other Run Archery events happening this year please let me know because I probably want to go!

CK3 RICE Mod Dev Diary #47 Sicily Flavor Pack (Part 3): Flavor Content for Southern Italy

“Because of the variety of different people subject to our rule [in Sicily], the usages, customs and laws which have existed among them up to now are not abrogated unless what is observed in them is clearly in contradiction to our edicts here.”
- Roger II of Sicily
I'm Cybrxkhan, creator of the Regional Immersion and Cultural Enrichment (RICE) mod, which adds simple "Flavor Packs'' to different parts of the world. This is the third, final dev diary about RICE’s next flavor pack, Sicily: Where Three Worlds Met. In dev diaries 1 and 2, we covered the Sicilian struggle. Today, we’ll go over more miscellaneous features in this update instead, such as new activities, buildings, historical characters, and more!
If you want to read the previous dev diaries, here’s links to them:
Lastly, feel free to check my mods' website, discord, and twitter for more info, previews, and updates as well!

Liminality Dynasty Legacy

The last time RICE introduced a new dynasty legacy was way back with the Tarim Basin flavor pack in 2022. Now, a new one will come with the Sicily update, called Liminality.
Liminality has both general bonuses, and those more specific to the Sicilian struggle’s mechanics. For instance, the 1st perk in this legacy, Populus Trlininguis, doubles trait XP you gain in the Sicilian Signore trait (a trait given to every ruler in Sicily) from various actions in the Sicilian struggle. It also improves interfaith opinion, and the language learning scheme.
https://preview.redd.it/mv4yygejqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c23b653c8a23e10217fe1d5e386494dda4f75017
The five perks in this legacy are:
  • Populus Trilinguis
  • Latifunda
  • Incastellamento
  • Nostalgia
  • Grand Signores
If you recall from the 1st Sicily struggle dev diary, the Sicily struggle can start up again and repeat continuously unless you achieve the Crossroads or Dominion ending. However, both these “true” endings require that you unlock the whole track – an important incentive to go through this track if you want to truly master the Sicilian Frontier.

Activities

Pilgrimage to Monte Gargano

Some of the new activity-related content has to do with previously introduced activities in RICE. For instance, Christians in Sicily now have access to their own local pilgrimage, to Monte Gargano in Foggia in southern Italy.
https://preview.redd.it/pkvhaq9kqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1bca374ea9b46b8297d1e435c21ff9f2bd88843
Historically, the main destination for pilgrims was the sanctuary for Saint Michael there. As one of the earliest centers of pilgrimage dedicated to the Archangel Michael, it served as a model for future, similar pilgrimage sites, such as Monte-Saint-Michel, an Abbey in Normandy that RICE already added a local pilgrimage activity for.

Baths of Baia

Another one of RICE’s general activities is the Visit to the Hot Springs. For those unfamiliar with this RICE feature, it is an activity that can be done anywhere in one’s realm, but going to certain baronies gives extra bonuses like useful modifiers. The barony of Naples, will now be one such site, for the baths of Baia.
https://preview.redd.it/6isk423mqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d745aa92ff3886eda79013e4d89f9794293dc252
Baia was a popular resort for centuries, and during both the ancient and medieval era, it had a negative reputation as a place of decadence and sin. While both male and female visitors were criticized in historical sources, the latter generally faced greater scrutiny and disapproval.
https://preview.redd.it/9h8g9pomqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24c51073bfd58838d5d40fdd88a5eccf8b313b71
Thus, while you’ll get a beneficial modifier from visiting the hot springs in Baia, the modifier has a malus to piety and opinion, and the malus is doubled if your gender isn’t considered dominant by your faith. If your faith meets certain requirements, like having the hedonist tenet, you get bonuses to piety/opinion rather than maluses instead.

Ancient Tombs

There are also two new activities. One, available to anyone in the region, is to pay a Visit to the Crypta Neapolitana. In medieval times, people thought the poet Virgil used magic to build this tunnel, as he was venerated as a powerful sorcerer in medieval legend. People also believed his tomb was nearby, and visitors from near and far came to his supposed tomb, which also became a local site of Christian worship.
https://preview.redd.it/noriwwsnqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7b53001af575ab07a1abc902910f7b5702cbe0c
Going on this activity lets you choose between two intents, that provide different modifiers: to be either Inspired by Virgil, or supposedly be blessed by Virgil’s Miracles.
Virgil’s legendary tomb isn’t the only tomb you can visit, however. In the city of Palermo, you can pay a Visit to Palermo’s Ancient Tombs to similarly gain minor bonuses and modifiers. It is available only to those who have territory on the island of Sicily, and has two options: the tomb of the philosopher Aristotle, or that of the physician Galen.
https://preview.redd.it/uyax9hboqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2adb88892ce87ff560050b3d695f84f9db70dfb4
Ibn Hawqal, a 10th century Arab geographer and scholar, observed that the main mosque of Palermo (previously the city’s main church) had a wooden beam where Aristotle's supposed coffin was suspended. Ibn Hawqal further notes how Christians venerated this Greek philosopher and prayed to him for rain.
Meanwhile, Galen’s purported tomb lay Misilmeri, a short distance from Palermo on the road to Agrigento. A useful source making note of this was that of al-Harawi, an Iranian traveler from the 13th century.

Special Buildings and Modifiers

Several special buildings have been added to the map in southern Italy. Generally, I spread them out with roughly one per duchy (with the exception of Sicily), representing different aspects of the region’s history, and buildings that I felt would be more relevant for the time period.
https://preview.redd.it/23a79lbpqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06fb2d685a07160e4eefec1aebb726732320ec99
The buildings, and the baronies they are in, are as follows:
  • Arch of Trajan in Benevento: One of the finest and best-known surviving examples of a Roman triumphal arch.
  • Monte Cassino in Cassino: One of the most influential Christian abbeys during the high medieval period.
  • Mount Etna in Catania: One of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe; the land around it is particularly fertile.
  • Royal Palace of Palermo in Palermo: A magnificent example of the fusion of Islamic, Byzantine, and Latin artistic styles. It is not built at game start.
  • Generic University in Salerno to represent the Salerno School of Medicine, arguably the most important medieval European center of medicine, drawing from Latin, Arabic, Greek, and Jewish medical traditions.
https://preview.redd.it/ns9vbtcqqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fab2f910f6b71cd6ded4f34cc1560243cb816eb7
The Salerno School of Medicine is also represented by a special county modifier in Salerno to represent its unique influence on medieval Europe and as a scholarly crossroads of different cultural traditions.
https://preview.redd.it/06th8bfrqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=754228a70f1bf0231857d9ae12c5f560092c5a92
Nearby, the county of Naples has the Phlegraean Fields modifier, representing the famous resort region discussed earlier.
https://preview.redd.it/9wzijrwrqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f2d54a5391ab76705dc18d20d51d3e74d47a1da

Historical Characters and Flavor

Several historical characters have been added across both bookmarks, and some come with flavor. I won’t list them all here, but I’ll mention a couple of the more interesting ones.

Rulers

For new playable rulers, in 867 we have Uthman. Historically, he ruled the Emirate of Taranto and may have harbored a defeated Emir Sawdan – the new bookmarked character in 867 if you recall – if Sawdan wasn't executed or captured by King Louis of Italy. Taranto was later conquered by Christian forces in 880. As Taranto is in the county of Bari in-game, I opted to make Uthman a vassal count of Sawdan.
https://preview.redd.it/envfi7ntqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d717f083dd4108f58231c8eedc1805b148989101
In 1066, Robert Guiscard is no longer the owner of Bari. In real life, Bari was controlled by the Byzantines until 1071; I assume PI has it otherwise either for balance reasons or to reflect how the Byzantines mainly controlled the region’s coastline. Anyhow, the new “count” of Bari in 1066 is Aboulchares, the second to last Catepan of Italy, who historically led the Byzantine defense against the Normans admirably. Based on his name, he was likely of Arab origin.
https://preview.redd.it/a0dfglauqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41481efffdc80afb3195fddd039191c1b4ff3258

Courtiers

Aaron or Abu Aaron is a Jewish mystic and scholar in the 867 bookmark who was prominent in southern Italy at the time. He starts off as a courtier and friend of Sawdan, the Emir of Bari.

A few years after game start, if he is in your court, most likely that of Sawdan, you’ll get an event where he’ll try to return to his homeland in Mesopotamia. In Jewish sources, the locals, including Sawdan, tried convincing him to stay, with Sawdan going as far as attempting to forcibly detain him, but nothing came out of it. If Abu Aaron is allowed to go, or successfully escapes an attempt to detain him, then he’ll go to the court of whoever’s holding Baghdad.

Constantine of Africa is a Christian monk and physician of North African origin (and possibly a convert from Islam) in the 1066 bookmark. He played a prominent role in the translation of medical texts and the development of Salerno’s school of medicine mentioned above.
https://preview.redd.it/3vhx1stvqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8464155d9790b50a9eb631581a8c3b84fd72713e

Starting Flavor

There’s also some other flavor to flesh out the historical situation in 1066.
To represent the aforementioned Norman attack on Bari, there is a new county claim war at the start of the game in 1066: the Norman Conquest of Bari. While the Byzantines do outnumber Robert Guiscard, the attacker, he’s been given extra troops at game start and the ERE is fighting a two-front war as they’re also being invaded by the Seljuks.
https://preview.redd.it/j6ei2mkwqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42e2b6b9ebeb2b2c83c71e6685b8e95e324a4a1f
Next, in 1066, a random selection of counties North Africa, particularly those controlled by or near the Zirids in Tunisia, will start off with a hit to control and a modifier called Chronic Ifriqyan Famines that reduces control and development. There is a small chance every year they’ll disappear.
https://preview.redd.it/o74dsq3xqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3f49d66aa170773f19f7f73f62acd689228c89c
The modifiers encourage you to take the interaction to ask for grain shipments from Sicily discussed in the previous dev diary, since if you’ve done so recently, it’ll increase the chances of your counties losing the modifier significantly.
For some historical context, as was also discussed in the previous dev diary, North Africa was increasingly dependent on exports of grain from Sicily in the 11th and 12th centuries.

Minor Decisions

There are a few minor flavor decisions that can be taken, besides the struggle-related ones discussed in dev diary 2.
https://preview.redd.it/36u77woxqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b68fcf75a91853df62f43becfdd383047ef5ac0
First, rulers near Salerno can take the decision to Support the Medical School of Salerno for a cost, which gives a beneficial health. There’s a chance you’ll get further modifiers, artifacts, or even a physician courtier for free. This chance is increased if you own Salerno. This is also one of the few ways you can get a boost to all tracks of the Sicilian signore trait at once.
Lastly, there is a minor decision to Construct the Admiral’s Bridge for rulers in Palermo. The Admiral’s bridge, impressive back in its day, and, interestingly, was the site of a major battle during Garibaldi’s expedition during the Italian Unification in the 1860s.
https://preview.redd.it/6laow06yqj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10be181c5c6ea9c8ac01383b039367f04198fdbd
The decision grants you and Palermo modifiers for a while. Historically, the bridge got its name from how it was built on the orders of George of Antioch, one of the most powerful officials of the Kingdom of Sicily in the 12th century who was given the title of Great Admiral or Admiral of Admirals. However, some recent scholarship has casted doubt on this, and the bridge might be older, perhaps even dating back to the Islamic period.

Concluding Remarks

That concludes the final dev diary!
Following the Sicily update, if time permits, work will start on a minor patch to add in miscellaneous features and bugfixes. The next planned flavor pack after Sicily is on the Zhangzhung and the Bön religion of ancient Tibet.
ETA for the Sicily content will be at the end of the month (though possibly early next month, depending on time/energy). Despite the large size of this update, there’s a lot that will be cut for time, that I might add in future updates. Until then, I’ll continue to post further previews on my discord, twitter, etc.
Thank you all for your time!

RICE Mod Dev Diary #47 Sicily Flavor Pack (Part 3): Flavor Content for Southern Italy
https://preview.redd.it/dnd6vt10rj1d1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=216be2693664f0a983646e11ece7bf051b6089d7

It also improves interfaith opinion, and the language learning scheme.
https://preview.redd.it/kg081vnnpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9af884d9d203f151f0a71eb419063ae4a820641
The five perks in this legacy are:

For instance, Christians in Sicily now have access to their own local pilgrimage, to Monte Gargano in Foggia in southern Italy.
https://preview.redd.it/bktn7kpppj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b466a245e361fda7bcb744a74a878da5d1ea790

The barony of Naples, will now be one such site, for the baths of Baia.
https://preview.redd.it/pthg7bbtpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61d59b16c5d82511f24349497e7f43bf8d028dee
Baia was a popular resort for centuries, and during both the ancient and medieval era, it had a negative reputation as a place of decadence and sin. While both male and female visitors were criticized in historical sources, the latter generally faced greater scrutiny and disapproval.
https://preview.redd.it/2q63tbytpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1d1d8c3774dd162082dcaf0596db06a09e9566e

People also believed his tomb was nearby, and visitors from near and far came to his supposed tomb, which also became a local site of Christian worship.
https://preview.redd.it/dcgslknvpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8331915ac296ec63991f86e8a4c99b726ab18060
It is available only to those who have territory on the island of Sicily, and has two options: the tomb of the philosopher Aristotle, or that of the physician Galen.
https://preview.redd.it/g3d3ef9wpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18074120215d56b7d521d6b1d2f51714cbc44e61

Generally, I spread them out with roughly one per duchy (with the exception of Sicily), representing different aspects of the region’s history, and buildings that I felt would be more relevant for the time period.
https://preview.redd.it/n68wnslxpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39300d9a3a5735deec75d401ae47a925685fc6d8
  • Generic University in Salerno to represent the Salerno School of Medicine, arguably the most important medieval European center of medicine, drawing from Latin, Arabic, Greek, and Jewish medical traditions.
https://preview.redd.it/3o2uw81zpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72383d7dfb6bd7e87312ecc53c2c8fa19b733743
The Salerno School of Medicine is also represented by a special county modifier in Salerno to represent its unique influence on medieval Europe and as a scholarly crossroads of different cultural traditions.
https://preview.redd.it/mqwv6onzpj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13738ae1e15d44b4fbac91f539121bd84d1c6a10
Nearby, the county of Naples has the Phlegraean Fields modifier, representing the famous resort region discussed earlier.
https://preview.redd.it/5amv1rh0qj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d29890a9710b8924842fe1965bfe71ba3c1ab7c

As Taranto is in the county of Bari in-game, I opted to make Uthman a vassal count of Sawdan.
https://preview.redd.it/dhk4mwl1qj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b471e989e6932017d49f00c88ec39035e1e3b76c
Based on his name, he was likely of Arab origin.
https://preview.redd.it/ac6vibf2qj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5af49b2d34bc3c20e1f15db0075186cd09f43faa

Courtiers

Aaron or Abu Aaron is a Jewish mystic and scholar in the 867 bookmark who was prominent in southern Italy at the time. He starts off as a courtier and friend of Sawdan, the Emir of Bari.
https://preview.redd.it/ohf9d953qj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbe380a2530c58793353f5837e543ce31dfb7f47

Constantine of Africa is a Christian monk and physician of North African origin (and possibly a convert from Islam) in the 1066 bookmark. He played a prominent role in the translation of medical texts and the development of Salerno’s school of medicine mentioned above.
https://preview.redd.it/iowt6o55qj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89dffcea41f12f666c060b1209ab0cb2ee40ee9a

Next, in 1066, a random selection of counties North Africa, particularly those controlled by or near the Zirids in Tunisia, will start off with a hit to control and a modifier called Chronic Ifriqyan Famines that reduces control and development. There is a small chance every year they’ll disappear.
The modifiers encourage you to take the interaction to ask for grain shipments from Sicily discussed in the previous dev diary, since if you’ve done so recently, it’ll increase the chances of your counties losing the modifier significantly.
https://preview.redd.it/23kzs1p6qj1d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79578ce64659910afba7c1ad00d487fa8e1212bb

There are a few minor flavor decisions that can be taken, besides the struggle-related ones discussed in dev diary 2.

Concluding Remarks

That concludes the final dev diary!

Hey, been writing this for a while. Got a dozen chapters at the moment. All of whom are interviews from veterans after a global war between humanity and aliens.
The premise is that after a short conflict/flashpoint between NATO and Russia in the baltics, that region becomes incredibly militarized as both sides pile up army units preparing for an inevitable conflict in the near future. Then you have meteors hitting Lithuania and Latvia. Which turns out were carrying an unknown Alien race which attempted to desperately colonize earth after their home planet was rendered inhabitable.
This is but one of the chapters. Fyi when they refer to crabs, they are talking about the alien cannon fodder units, 1 to 3m tall bipedal beings that have the face of crustaceans.
Feel free to give me any criticism you'd like. This is just a taste of what I'm working, if people are interested I will share more.

November 2034, Gdansk. European Federation

Pzschemek courteously welcomes me into his apartment, gently balancing his half-asleep young boy in one arm as he opens the door. The 34th floor of this public housing tower was completed just a year ago. As a combat veteran, the governement paid half of the price on the already affordable apartment. Since the official end of hostilities and the remarkable population surge, these towering structures, inspired by their Asian counterpart, have sprouted in nearly every remaining major city across the continent. Having seen combat from the start all the way to the end, I was referred to him by the head of the Polish Army Land Forces who was his battalion commander during the start of the war.
I'm offered a seat on the living room sofa, amidst scattered toys and clothes strewn about. He settles across from me, his son peacefully asleep in his arms, after preparing coffee for us.
A veteran of the war, he had seen combat all across Poland as a tank commander.

"When I began my training, we operated with the PT-91, an upgraded Soviet-designed T-72—sturdy, but we viewed them as deathtraps. Just imagine our optimism when my battalion received our first Leopards 2a7. Transitioning from a 1980s Soviet tank to modern german, American and ever Korean tanks—before the war in Ukraine, even entertaining such a notion aloud would have warranted a psychological evaluation. After a year or so. I knew that thing inside and out. It had short comings but it was a beauty.

He points to a frame on the wall—a cutout of a newspaper front page. It depicts him and his other crew members atop their tank ‘Sokoly’ written on its cannon, with a destroyed tripod lying on the floor behind them, the backdrop a sight of a ravaged city. With the title; “Our boys took Vilnius!"
"We made the front page of Gazeta Wyborcza with that picture. Our company commander sent it in. My parents hadn't heard from me in weeks, and one day, he recognized me on the front page at a news stand."
His face lights up with a warm smile.
"We hit the road five hours after the first landings. My vehicle was still getting fueled when I drove into our base, rushing to the briefing room in my jeans and rain jacket. I was expecting orders to be to rush to the Belarusian border or help out our guys in Lithuania to fend of the russians. Instead, our company commander starts talking about visitors from another world, how the info keeps pouring in every minute, but everything's still up in the air. We didn’t believe him until we saw the footage of the meteor landings, or air force footage from the airstrikes on beings we didn’t even know could exist. That one footage from that tank station, those crabs walking in and shooting all those civilians really set us off. That segment where one crab ripped out the arm of a dead man to make sure he was dead must have filled us with hate. Even do we didn’t know who or what they were. We didn’t ask too many questions. You’d expect us to yell out stuff in the likes of “Have we tried to make contact with them? What is the United Nations saying? From what planet are they?” but the only questions that could be heard was “Did the 2-5 tank get its tracks fixed? How much water should we take? Do we get our shells here or the TAA?”
“We were scared don’t get me wrong but I’m still proud of my boys, Its been a while but we still have contact with each other. Last summer I was the best man at my loader’s wedding.”
After laying down his boy, who had just woken up, he watches as the little one instantly grabs a toy police car and starts playing with it. Pzshemek gazes at his son, lost in thought, as he happily engages with his toy.

"We spent five hours on the road, with our tanks hitched onto trucks. When we finally reached our deployment area, chaos was everywhere. The roads were packed with cars from the north—Polish, Lithuanian, even Russian and Belarussian plates. People crammed into buses, I even saw a truck with an empty container but packed with civilians inside. On one van, boys sat on top, like scenes from trains in India. It's a miracle we only arrived an hour late. In Suwalki, we turned an Ikea parking lot into a makeshift FOB. Half of it was filled with troops fresh back from Lithuania and the border. Fresh might not be the right word. They were ravaged, they sat in silences. Nearly all with bandages or injuries of some sorts. The heavily wounded were being treated in tents and civilian ambulances. The dead layed in rows and rows of bodybags. They had commandeered one of or trench building vehicles to dig a mass grave for them. Helicopters landed, unloaded countless men and they loaded the helis to the brim with the injured. Tents and tents of make shift hospitals. More and more troops arrived. They looked like they’ve been to hell. I remember at one time my gaze met one of the men. I was looking around until I saw him looking at me. He was sitting on a stretcher being treated by a paramedic, his chest and arms were burned black. He was staring at me. I don’t know if it was the morphine or the shock, his gaze wouldn’t leave me. Fighter jets kept buzzing us. On our way to bomb targets and to slow the advance of the crabs down as much as they could. I was confident on our way there but the sight of all those defeated man made me want to empty my guts. We got called to a tent to get a briefing on the situation. There was a white board with grainy pictures of what we could expect. Even drawings. It was the Polish military attaché to Lithuania himself who gave the briefing to us. He looked like he had been to hell. I learned later he had to be restrained with the help of punches and shoved into the last helicopter out of Vilnius by his men.”
“What did he discuss?”
"We're in the dark, and we're counting on you to keep us informed as you hold the line. My English doesn't do it justice, but that was the last thing he said before we set out. We knew more different type of enemy assets would emerge as they settled in. Turns out, our drones spotted them digging into the meteors they landed in. As we left the FOB, they were loading everything onto anything with a motor and wheels. They didn't anticipate us holding our ground. Now, that's what I call motivation.”
Our chat got interrupted when Pszemek's wife walking into the apartment, decked out in nurse scrubs and juggling grocery bags. Pszemek jumped up to help her out, and they headed to the hallway, chatting away in Polish. Before she disappeared into the dimly lit bedroom, they stole a quick kiss.
“She has the night shift.” He said coldly as he put away the groceries. “We got on our tanks, our entire company made it and we were lined up platoon by platoon.
I closed the hatch, sat down, put my helmet on. My loader who also was my assistant of sorts. Installed the radios, helped copy the maps our lieutenant got, made coffee or passed drinks. He gave me a thumbs up, it was our signal and it meant we had radio communications with everyone that mattered. I pressed the push to talk of my microphone. “Everyone in position? Sound off!” I tried to say firmly and calmly. I knew back then it wasn’t the time to show any fear to my boys.
“Driver ready!” One voice yelled loudly. “Gunner ready!” followed by “Loader ready!” we set off right after that
At Suwalki we had to hold the highway entering the city from the north. Nothing particular, just fields and roads. We would have excelled there if we faced anything other than that. As dawn broke. The air strikes and artillery lured closer and closer. Along with our reconnaissance elements on the radio notifying us every time they got one kilometer closer. We could just sit there, it took us five minutes to mark and call out points of interests in that field so that we could communicate quickly during the battle and then we counted down the kilometers between us and them. Some men smoked, wrote letters. My gunner, a young guy he must have been 19 back then. He opened the hatch suddenly to vomit outside. Our nerves were all over the place. We nearly shot our recon troops as they speeded through our lines. They rushed through us and took cover behind us. They had done their job warning us and coordinating airstrikes. I told my boys it was our moment to shine. That whatever may walk, run, crawl over the border that we were the Polish anvil set on stopping them. We sat at two kilometers from the first woodline. We had infantry in the woods to our west and east. We had the open fields. We had to stop them or win time for the folks in Suwalki. But this wasn’t Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia. This was Poland. We wouldn’t give them an inch. We all grew up listening to our grandparents talking about what the Nazis and Soviets did to them and to our country.
At first, it was lone crabs on that wood line. They moved from tree to tree. We could see their silhouettes on the thermal sights. As more of those crab joined them we didn’t bother to shoot. We called in the mortar platoon to take care of them. Even after the mortars landed and took care of the first ones, their numbers grew. Then when there mobs of them we called in the 155mm artillery. It turned that forest. We felt the shockwaves as it blasted them. Trees were shredded and their pieces sent hundreds of meter away. Then we heard the first rumble of the beetles. I still have no idea why they didn’t appear on my thermals with all the heat they were carrying inside. If it wasn’t for the dawn and the reflection of the moonlight I might not have seen it until it was on top of me. Those things were as big as an apartment block. I still can't wrap my head around how those beasts survived a journey across galaxies. Must be why they were so darn hard to kill. We had no idea how they fought, how fast they could move. We called them beetles because it was the only thing earth like we could remotely compare them to in shape. I felt my heart race when I switched to normal sight and saw one of them move. I was looking right at it yet it appeared black as the solid on my thermal heat sight. There must have been six of them pushing that field alone. Against twelve of our tanks and three platoon’s worth of infantrymen and IFVs, you'd think we could've held them. But when they carpet-bombed us with fire, everyone lost it. Those beasts opened their mouth as their throat expanded, the fire inside of that could hurt to look at if you watched it with the naked eye. We didn’t know what to expect, but them spitting magma on us wasn’t on our bingo list so to say. Sure, they were two hundred meters short, but everyone outside of tanks must've felt the heat. They fired what could only be described as ropes of magma all in unison. The infantry platoon beside us, even the most ‘gung ho’ grunts who had had time to dig trenches, said ‘fuck that’ did a 180 and sprinted back a few hundred meters. Our platoon commander was swearing up a storm on the radio, trying to get their commander to get his men in order. Can't blame them. We opened fire right after their attempt to cremate us. I told my gunner to aim for the head and fire. Even with the shock of the 122mm armor-piercing shell hitting it, the thing just staggered and kept moving. Even in the tank, with all that armor and my ear protection, I could still hear my colleagues unloading on them. Again and again I ordered my gunner to go for the head. I still don’t know how they survived the kinetic shock alone of a shell like that hitting them. Later on in the war we learned that it gave them those weird types of concussions that made them act all weird, made them even attack their own side and such. But at the time, you can imagine me sitting there looking at them eating a tank shell like it was nothing. One shell hit its upper back. We saw the shell ricochet of its back and fly god knows where in the horizon behind it. My loader was grabbing shells and loading them in the breech at a rythm he could have gotten a medal for that alone. They were getting closer. The beetles and the crabs moving in with them. They spit fire again in unison. This time they were right on the mark. I heard the commander of the tank on my left yell in the radio as his tank ate hot magma. They were safe for now on the inside but the panic it instilled, there was nothing like it. Keep in mind, we still had 155mm artillery landing, it didn’t seem to be bothered by it even do the crabs next to those things were turned into moshed potatoes by the shrapnel and shock blast.
Pszemek got up suddenly to move his kid away from the kitchen as he tried to grab a hold of the hot coffee pot.
“little devil” he said silently.
“When I realized we couldn’t pierce it from the front I ordered by gunner to go for its knee caps. He didn’t hesitate and put its sight on it. The beetle was moving slowly enough for him to aim. My loader, exhausted from carrying shell after shell yelled out “GOTOWY” with a blood curling yell right before my gunner pulled the trigger on the joystick. The ignition on the shell shook the tank as it always did. It’s like a giant punch that makes the whole vehicle jolt backward violently. You can feel the force ripple through the tank, and everything inside shakes for a moment before it steadies again thanks to the suspension. The shell hit it right on the mark. The beast lost its footing. It crashed face-down, crushing a few crabs beneath it who were taking cover under it. It took a few moments for the creature to rise on another leg. Sharp as a fox, my gunner aimed for the first leg on the opposite side and fired another armor piercing shell through the meaty split between its strong carapace. The devil was down. With its front legs disabled, it had no balance. Instinctively, I grabbed the radio. The radio was buzzing with "NO EFFECT ON THE TARGET" and "LIEUTENANT, LET'S GET OUTTA HERE, FOR GOD'S SAKE." I shouted at my colleagues to aim for the kneecaps to slow them down. It got everyone to shut up and focus at the task at hand.

One by one, the beetles crashed in the mud. Don’t get me wrong, they kept shooting their magma at us. My tank got some aswell. It cooked our thermal sights and lazer warning receivers instantly. But since our engine was spared we just had to reverse back twenty meters and we were alright. We were speeding at 30km/h in reverse, I was praying there wouldn’t be a confused 20 year old infantry man end up under our tracks. The beetles were everything but precise. They even hit their own crabs as they desperately spat fire. The amount of which was drastically lower than earlier, their fuel tank just like ours were running low. One brave bastard on the radio yelled out for us to wait for it to fire and then hit it right in the mouth. That’s literally a tactic out of a video game. We did as he told. My gunner was with his sight right on what can be described as its mouth. His knee shaked in anticipation of the shot. I was looking at the gunner sight through my screen. As it opened its mouth, I didn’t even have time to yell “FIRE” that my gunner had already unleashed a high explosive shell down that thing’s throat.”
Pszemek looked at his boy with a warm smile as he thought back at one of the few good events of that fateful night.
“The devil exploded, the flash was so bright it lit up the interior of our tank through the periscopes. For a second I could see the exhausted look on my loader sweaty face. The fire gulf must have taken out god knows how many of the crabs taking shelter near it. My entire platoon followed suit and before long the entire field lit up with the explosions of those devils. I heard later from the folks in Suwalki that they saw the flashes of light all the way back there. One by one we took them out like that.
With the beetles out of the picture, we made quick work of the crabs. They were only five hundred meters away, close enough to start firing. Against our tanks, they didn’t stand a chance. The infantry was less fortunate. I saw one of them fire one of their shoulder mounted cannon, hit an IFV on its side and afterwards I saw the crew throwing themselves out of their vehicle as they burned alive. We took out three-quarters of them before they scrambled back across the field the way they came. Then we picked them off as they ran. Our coaxial gun was working overtime, we barely could keep up reloading that machine gun. I was praying it would’nt jam or overheat. With the last one down and our lieutenant on the radio, praising our performance, I unlocked my hatch, swung it open, and peeked outside. There were still patches of molten magma here and there, and the whole field reeked of sulfur and gunpowder. People were treating the wounded, some men cried, some men were laughing hysterically. Most of them were quiet. I lit up a cigarette, wiping the sweat off my face with a towel. The loader tossed me a can of Monster from our makeshift fridge. I gave him props for his work before he collapsed from exhaustion.

We could have stayed there, all of us would have been happy dying in that field if it meant we slowed their advance into our country. Turns out high command had other plans for us. We held but the units on our flanks were about to break. They had already plans for if ww3 popped off. They already know which unit would be desimated and which would have been spared if the Russians had decided to attack. The worst case scenario had a defensive line from Gdansk through Olsztyn all the way to Bialystok. We had the momentum as we cowardly fled back to Augustow. Stopping time and time again to give time for refugees to flee south. We were glad the Russians in Kaliningrad took a beating. They estimated they held ¾ of the crabs in the southern front. Every fight was harder than the last. We had less and less ammo. Jets were flying less and less. Especially when the crabs found a way to shoot them off the sky.
We felt like cowards every time. Sure we got allot of civilians safe, but even then we felt like we failed despite how many Crabs, Tripods or beetles we stopped.

2024.05.20 13:58 Allen-Geoffrey16 Understanding the Complexities of PFAS Regulations US & Europe

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as “forever chemicals,” have emerged as a significant concern due to their persistence, bioaccumulative nature, and potential health risks. Regulators worldwide are taking action to address PFAS contamination, with the European Union (EU) and the United States leading the charge. In this blog, we’ll delve into the intricacies of PFAS regulations, exploring the regulatory landscapes in both regions and providing valuable insights for businesses navigating these challenges.
Understanding EU Regulations:
In the EU, PFAS regulations are undergoing significant developments, with authorities at both the EU and member state levels taking decisive steps to restrict these substances. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has proposed strict limitations on over 10,000 PFAS chemicals under the REACH regulation. This landmark regulation aims to redefine the use of PFAS in manufacturing processes and products, impacting both EU-based manufacturers and companies selling into the EU market. Authorities from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden have collaborated on the proposal, emphasizing the urgency of addressing PFAS contamination.
Key considerations for businesses operating in the EU include the evaluation and consultation processes following the proposal, as well as potential implications for supply chain management. Despite ongoing discussions, the pressure from consumers, NGOs, and member states underscores the importance of proactive engagement with regulators to ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
Navigating U.S. Regulatory Framework:
In the United States, PFAS regulation primarily falls under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with various initiatives underway to address PFAS contamination. These include proposed rules under the
Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA),
such as the PFAS reporting rule and the establishment of drinking water standards for six PFAS chemicals. Additionally, the inclusion of certain PFAS substances in the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) highlights the federal government’s commitment to addressing PFAS contamination.
However, delays in finalizing regulations have raised concerns among businesses awaiting clarity on compliance requirements. The EPA’s postponement of the
PFAS reporting rule
has left many stakeholders questioning the timeline and potential impacts on their operations. Despite these challenges, businesses must remain vigilant and proactive in preparing for regulatory changes, considering the broader market impacts and stakeholders’ expectations.
Market Drivers of PFAS Restrictions:
Beyond regulatory actions, businesses must also navigate additional market drivers influencing PFAS restrictions. Suppliers, customers, NGOs, competitors, investors, and insurers all play crucial roles in shaping the landscape of PFAS regulation. From supplier pressures to consumer demand for PFAS-free products, businesses face mounting expectations to address PFAS contamination throughout their supply chains.
Investors and insurers, recognizing the financial and reputational risks associated with PFAS, are increasingly advocating for companies to eliminate these substances from their operations. As PFAS regulations continue to evolve, businesses must prioritize proactive measures to mitigate risks and maintain market access.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, navigating the complexities of PFAS regulations requires a proactive and informed approach from businesses operating in both the EU and the U.S. From understanding regulatory requirements to addressing market drivers, organizations must remain agile in responding to the evolving landscape of PFAS regulation. By staying informed, engaging with regulators, and implementing robust compliance measures, businesses can effectively navigate the challenges posed by PFAS contamination and safeguard their operations for the future.

Help with identification
I found the top while camping. Two days before going on the trip I found the bottom in some tall grass by my shed where I've done a few European mounts of some large whitetail bucks. I didn't think much about it and placed it on the shed until I found the larger one a few days later on the creek bank in my spot. Then compared them when I got home and they look identical except for the size difference. Awesome foreshadowing lol I've also found some ammonites in the same location. Any educated guesses on the large one?

2024.05.19 23:59 Head_Valuable_6086 About israel being blamed for genocide:

Turk here. Im so sad to see this. They pulled the same shit off for turkey and now its happening to israel. They will first attack you, try grabbing your lands from all sides and then call you genociders for defending your country. Germany will blame israel for genocide in the future to even the odds about them genociding the jews. The will no longer need to stand by israel. Europe knew this was gonna happen all along. No one helps anyone without a prupose. There is an increase in media about fake news and articles about both jews and turks lately. They want us to be enemies and then grab our lands one by one. US used to help us agaisnt communist organizations as well like pkk. Now you see whats happening to turkey. Armenia only recognizes the map frpm treaty of serves and wants mount ararat. Syria wants hatay province. Greeks want our sea rights. Kurds want our entire south eastern region and the list goes on and all of them are blaming us for genocides too. This hapened to turkey and now its gonna happen to israel unfortunately. The west believes everything that is turkophobic and antisemitic. This was like this in their history and now its the same. Melanchton, who was a very close friend of martin luther blamed turks for being red jews to dehumanize them in his book and his reasoning was that both turks and jews practice circumcission. Source: Luther, M., & Melanchthon, P. (1532). Zwen trostbrieve geschriben an der Durchleuchtigen und hochgebornen Fürsten und Herrn Joachim Churfürste und Marckgraven zu Brandenburger vom Türken zuge. (S. 4b.). Nürmberg: Berg There are a million other instances of this. If you want, please message me from private. Im actually preparing a video on this and it would be great if you guys could provide me with more sources as well. This shit has to be known.
The khazar theory and ataturk being called a jew are all continuations of this. They are trying to make jews and turks similar to be able to dehumanize them easier. It becomes easier to dehumanize someone by making them look like another race or religion or anything that is easy to produce conspiracy theories about and make people believe them. Dont let the support of the world fool you guys. When all this is over and some time passes, every single nation near you will start belaming israel for genocides and look at pkk if you wnt to see how thats going to happen. First, all european countries and the west recognized pkk as a terrorist organization but now, there is even an office of pkk in germany and they are holding rallies all over europe. There was a recent attack on turks all over europe by pkk and every single country blamed this on the turks. They took turks as workers and now they arent protecting their rights. Now all of the west recognizes hamas as a terrorist organization and helps israel. Guess what is next?
If you are interested, i can send you guys the CIA reports over the cold war era to this day about PKK in syria and iraq so you can see how the attitude of the US changed about them over time and how they supported us unconditionally and how they are working against us in every possible way today.
They are trying to make us forget our common history. Erdogan is also contributing to this. He is trying to make us an islamist arabic nation and making us enemies with israel is jsut a step.
For example, 2000 jews died in the tripolista massacre. Why isnt anyone mentioning the jews that died there? Girls were kidnapped to be raped and kids limbs were cut off and then burned on fire slowly. As i said they will make us enemies and then finish both turks and jews all at once. I used to be very antisemitic as well when i was a kid because i was brainwashed and believed everything i heard. They said israel supported asala and pkk to me while it was palestine who did that all along. Also hamas is an islamist organization and doesnt want an independent palestine. They want all jews dead and want to build an islamist nation like taliban did in afghanistan. But hamas is introduced as a liberator organization abroad. I learned this through research but i dont think majority of the people in the world will do that and believe their media instead. The west mentions hamas as a terror organization but never tells its purpose. Why is that? Its because they dont want to give people a reason to think of the opposite so they will think that their government is lying and start defending hamas. They are trying to create the image that they are lying about hamas and hamas is actually a good organization by trying to make it look evil without an obvious reason. So the public will tend to believe their governments are lying and support hamas. This is a very good trick. First it makes jews think that the west is supporting israel. Then they make people think that they found the reality behind the govenrments lies about hamas being a terrorist organization. When someone feels like they found the truth, they will not look further. Very few people suspects if what they found after a lie is really the truth. Thats how this goes and why there are so many anti semites and anti turks today.

Record temperatures, record migration, record emissions, record displacement, record PFAS……start building an ark.
Last Week in Collapse: May 12-18, 2024
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter compiling some of the most important, timely, useful, soul-crushing, ironic, stunning, exhausting, or otherwise must-see/can’t-look-away moments in Collapse.
This is the 125th newsletter! You can find the May 5-11 edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.
——————————
Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acres—almost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. “Institutional failures” compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and “cold lava” killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand. Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile, an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page report last week about natural disasters in 2023—and how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in Türkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.
“Last year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsured….the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive year….annual insured losses will grow by 5–7% over the long term…today’s insured losses could double in 10 years….There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1–5 billion….Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...”
Flooding and heat waves are impacting Brazil’s oranges, responsible for about 70% of the world’s supply. One food analysts declared that the “era of cheap food is over”—in the UK, at least. That may be one reason why UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The Rhône River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerland’s remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam, lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, China’s lychee harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the world’s largest source of lychee. And, once again, Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen posted that, since “human-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,” the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a “large anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere” responsible for rising temperatures there. CO2 levels are rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 years…and a study of millennia-old trees determined last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ years…
Record nighttime May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states saw more records drop. And Toronto saw a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has returned to Bangladesh. Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A comparative study in Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
It’s that time of the year again. Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sands—forcing thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nation’s blazes are “out of control,” resulting in air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean, water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has declared a water emergency. In Myanmar, water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least ⅛ of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme flooding—so says a 175-page report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.
“Europe has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperatures….permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern Europe….since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditions….Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawing….Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding event….Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clear…” -selections from the report
Milan suffered flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim “global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than local temperature” and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.
——————————
Epidemiologists are worried about how climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are 50% higher than in 2000—though researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawai’i, 75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024 World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants; another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.
“The last two years saw major migration and displacement events that have caused great hardship and trauma, as well as loss of life….There have also been large-scale displacements triggered by climate- and weather-related disasters in many parts of the world in 2022 and 2023, including in Pakistan, the Philippines, China, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and Colombia….disinformation tactics are increasingly being used by nefarious actors with negative impacts on public, political and social media discourse on migration….Forced displacement is the highest on record in the modern era…overconsumption and overproduction linked to unsustainable economic growth, resource depletion and biodiversity collapse, as well as ongoing climate change (including global heating) are continuing to grip the world….the risk of further conflict has not been higher in decades, as military spending reached a new record high of USD 2,240 billion in 2022…” -excerpts from the introduction
Another report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analyses—with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.
“Conflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 years….Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacement….Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in Somalia….Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in Ethiopia….Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after Sudan….nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods empty….Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacements….” -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
Experts are concerned about the mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe “Peak China” may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy. Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page report on potential climate risks to the banking system’s resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced an outbreak of Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of monkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolina’s Senate voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they “had significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failure….even two years after recovering.” Experts say a summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). The study also found that precipitation is the primary means by which the Lakes are accumulating PFAS, since the chemicals are small & stable enough to move through the water cycle. Meanwhile, in England’s Lake District, a telecom failure resulted in raw sewage being pumped into England’s largest and most famous lake, Windermere, on-and-off for 10 hours; and a major British water CEO took a $4M USD pay package last year. And a look into the Chicago River’s health found that microplastics & trash are endangering health & biodiversity.
——————————
An assassination attempt by a lone wolf on Slovakia’s PM left him in critical condition, but likely to survive. 11 civilians were slain by cartel fighters in a few battles in Mexico. Violence continues to spiral out of control in Goma, DRC.
In Haiti, everything worsens indefinitely. Guns have reportedly entered from Florida, a phenomenon which officials call an “iron river.” Police have been put on the defensive against the growing might of the gang warlords.
A brawl broke out in Taiwan’s parliament. An Iranian plot was allegedly foiled to smuggle weapons into Jordan to destabilize the pro-U.S. regime.
Dozens more died in Sudan from escalating violence around Darfur. People are warning about “a disaster on top of a disaster” and the possibility of Sudan splitting apart. Others have called it “hell on earth” as 1,000+ refugees cross the Chad border every day. Disease and malnutrition are growing, while famine encroaches upon 9M helpless victims of the conflict—but the world’s attention is elsewhere.
The U.S. Army Engineers completed constructing the pier in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. Some 600,000 Gazans have been displaced from Rafah already, and fighting has escalated against Hamas militants in northern Gaza.
Taliban forces skirmished with Pakistani soldiers for about 90 minutes last week. Taliban attacks in Pakistan, and counterattacks have resulted in a kind of ambient disruption for the rocky border zone.
Violent protests—and counteroperationsare continuing in New Caledonia (pop: 270,000), a Pacific island part of overseas France. The riots, which have killed 6 people so far, began after metropolitan France proposed a plan to expand voting rights beyond indigenous residents. A state of emergency has been declared amid worries about a spiral of violence taking hold.
As the Sahel dries out, experts are concerned about the links to rising terrorism in the region. The Sahel accounts for over 40% of global terrorism deaths—according to the analysts’ understanding of “terrorism.” Mali in particular has reportedly become home to 41 new, different non-state armed groups (NSAGs) since 2007. A contested election in Chad resulted in the consolidation of the interim leader’s power.
“If governments are continually unable to solve regional issues, the people will be at the whim of any terror group that has a basic organization. It serves these groups’ interests to promote insecurity where they can and create security where they want. A “hearts and minds” campaign in the Sahel could lead to long-term and locally supported insurgencies in a land that is currently rife with civil strife.” -from the article
Some wargamers concluded that a Trump victory in 2020 would spell the end of NATO, or at least the end of its utility. Vladimir Putin replaced his minister of defense with a top economic advisor, just before going to Beijing to reaffirm their friendship with “no limits.” Some say Putin is planning on a forever war. Some say NATO is gearing up for one, too.
Russia made several gains in the suburbs of Kharkiv, seizing several settlements which some analysts doubt they will hold. Putin claims they aren’t really trying to take Kharkiv anyway… Russia also made small progress in the Donbas—although they suffered their largest one-day casualties since the start of the war. The U.S. allocated another $2B to hasten the delivery of weapons to the front lines. The next weeks will be crucial on the front. Switzerland has invited 160+ nations to send delegates to a peace summit intended to design a path to making peace in this War.

Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-Brazil’s flooding was really, really bad, judging from this post and its accompanying images. Across just one of Brazil’s 26 states, 600,000+ people have been made homeless, 100+ have died, and the storm season isn’t over yet. Some of the flooding isn’t expected to subside for another month.
-How specifically might climate change make humanity extinct? This thread crowdsources a number of plausible ways, from ordinary famines to nuclear war and even a massive deoxygenation process. I tend to think it will be a consequence of an eventual nuclear exchange, followed by extended famine and disease.
