2024.05.21 22:00 embwbam [ANN] Hyperbole - Interactive HTML applications with type-safe serverside Haskell. Like typed HTMX
When
I released web-view 6 months ago, I said I was "weeks" away from releasing a framework for interactive web apps built on top of it. Well it's been 26 weeks, and it's finally ready!
Hyperbole makes it easy to create fully interactive HTML applications with type-safe serverside Haskell. It's inspired by
HTMX,
Elm, and
Phoenix LiveView Motivation I've been a web developer since before "Ajax". I rode the wave of Single Page Applications (SPAs) and loved how interactive we could make things. I've written fancy apps in React and Elm. But ultimately SPAs mean writing two applications, a Javascript client and a server, plus an API between them. They're a huge pain to write and maintain. I missed serverside web apps.
Instead of an SPA, Hyperbole allows us instead to write a single Haskell program which runs exclusively on the server. All user interactions are sent to the server for processing, and a sub-section of the page is updated with the resulting HTML.
There are frameworks that support this in different ways, including
HTMX,
Phoenix LiveView, and others. Hyperbole has the following advantages
- 100% Haskell
- Type safe views, actions, routes, and forms
- Elegant interface with little boilerplate
- VirtualDOM updates over sockets, fallback to HTTP
- Easy to use
Like
HTMX, Hyperbole extends the capability of UI elements, but it uses Haskell's type-system to prevent common errors and provide default functionality. Specifically, a page has multiple update targets called [HyperView](Web-Hyperbole.html#t:HyperView)s. These are automatically targeted by any UI element that triggers an action inside them. The compiler makes sure that actions and targets match.
Like
Phoenix LiveView, it upgrades the page to a WebSocket connection and uses VirtualDOM for live updates
Like
Elm, it relies on an update function to [handle](Web-Hyperbole.html#v:handle) actions, but greatly simplifies the Elm Architecture by handling state with extensible effects. [form](Web-Hyperbole.html#v:form)s are easy to use with minimal boilerplate
Depends heavily on the following frameworks
Simple Example {-# LANGUAGE DeriveAnyClass #-} {-# LANGUAGE OverloadedStrings #-} {-# LANGUAGE TypeFamilies #-} import Web.Hyperbole main = do run 3000 $ do liveApp (basicDocument "Example") (page mainPage) mainPage = do handle message load $ do pure $ do el bold "My Page" hyper (Message 1) $ messageView "Hello" hyper (Message 2) $ messageView "World!" data Message = Message Int deriving (Generic, Param) data MessageAction = Louder Text deriving (Generic, Param) instance HyperView Message where type Action Message = MessageAction message :: Message -> MessageAction -> Eff es (View Message ()) message _ (Louder m) = do let new = m <> "!" pure $ messageView new messageView :: Text -> View Message () messageView m = do el_ $ text m button (Louder m) id "Louder"
Learn More Hackage has a better intro and good docs The repo has a bunch of examples demonstrating different features Feedback Any questions and comments appreciated! Please let me know if anything isn't clear from the docs.

2024.05.21 21:59 Onion_Sun_Bro Pi-hole don't block adds
Hi, i bought a T-BAO T8 Mini PC to make it a homelab and learn about nertworking, since I barely know anything about it.
I installed Pi-hole (on Proxmox), changed my system settings to use it as DNS on the operating system, and it works as a DNS, meaning the "Total queries" goes up every time I visit a site, but no add is blocked, meaning "Queries Blocked" remains the same and the adds are shown in the web pages.
The most strange part is that if I use Brave Browser, that has add block by default, the "Queries Blocked" goes up.
In Linux I edited the /etc/resolv.conf leaving only the Pi-hole IP, to make sure there's no interference of other DNSs.
I tried it on Linux and Windows (I dual boot them), I tried it in Firefox, Chrome and Edge, and the problem remains. Any idea what's going on?
OBS: I working so I may take a while to answer.

2024.05.21 21:41 LooLoo_nonsense Epson ecotank 2803 won’t print color with ink tanks almost full
I bought an epson ecotank 2803, used, and it won’t print color. I’ve done the nozzle cleaning option multiple times, cleaned the print head multiple times and did basically all of the maintenance options except for a power cleaning bc I read that that can seriously drain the ink. So I wanted to make sure there wasn’t something else I could try, before I did that.
I included the second picture bc a lot of the stuff online says to change certain settings and see if the color works, but I have a very limited amount of settings and can’t change much.
I don’t really know what I’m doing.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

2024.05.21 21:41 pagirios cat food ranked by cost efficiency and nutritional value
Hi everyone! Not sure if this falls under “no advertising” rule or not, if so, forgive me and delete the post. I just wanted to share a website/tool that I’ve built for myself and thought that maybe it would be useful for someone else too.
Like many of you, I'm constantly trying to find appropriate food for my cats that has the correct nutrition (as suggested by my vet) and won’t break the bank. What I want is to have an up-to-date list of products sorted by their cost per kcal with the ability to filter by nutritional values (dry matter). Since I couldn’t find exactly this, I built this:
https://foodrank.pet/cat Currently, it holds over 450 Amazon listings, and ~1500 more are waiting to be added (it takes time as I have to manually review each new product to make sure that the nutritional values and calories are correctly scraped from the web). Existing listings are auto-updated daily. Even if you’re not buying from Amazon, this should be still a good source to look for the product names.
Disclaimer: I’m not sure how sustainable this is going to be but those Amazon links are affiliate links, so I could potentially keep running this server & daily data scraper forever(?). And of course, the information provided may be incorrect, so you should always verify. ✌️

2024.05.21 21:38 Oryx_Took_The_Kids Bloodweb should prioritise perks you have equipped
I already have a few issues with RNG in this game, specifically regarding the blood web and items but I digress, its very baked into the game so an overhaul would take so much work, but I'm to the point where I've got so many survivors prestige 1, that I have like 5 pages of perks off the rip (and most people will have more than me lol), I'll prestige a character with the intention of using a new build, and this time I only got 3 levels out of 8 total that I need/want. I'm not even a worst case and I'm needing to prestige characters multiple times just to use fun builds I want to try.
IMO, putting together builds is one of the best things about the game, there's already a high enough barrier to entry with paid DLC and a long grind for iri characters, so why not give us some slack once we've finally got them.
Or just remove perk levels all together because I cant really see the purpose they serve other than a 'dump bloodpoints here'.

2024.05.21 21:36 AffectionateAffect5 Junior Dev searching with 5 months if exp and personal projects
For my Shopify experience, it's all by by myself and for myself. I'm not sure if that would count as experience, but I've gained a lot of insight in terms of how to design e-commerce stores, organize page layouts and implement SEO, analytics, and such.
Lately I have been applying to summer internships Non-Stop and I get rejected for the ones that sound pretty basic for a junior such as knowing how to do react, HTML , and CSS or just the front end development in general. I have experience with agile methodologies and working with designers turning their designs from figma into reality.

2024.05.21 21:24 tomadobi Business partnership with someone who has experience in wallets, accessories, or fashion in Kolkata, and can help source materials.
Looking to co-found a modern wallet brand. I run a digital marketing agency, will be available free of cost for the venture (social, branding, copywriting, SEO, website, ads, ecommerce). But I have no experience in the products themselves. So, I need someone with experience in wallets, accessories, fashion, etc., preferably with experience in D2C supply chains, manufacturing, material sourcing. The idea is to create a chic, new-age brand to connect with the youth. Everything from the branding, communication, colors, and web UI to the product shots will be aligned to that. More details over PM.
If you don't have a clear idea of the aesthetic I'm envisioning, here are some references to check. Please note these are all just references and are not the same. The final product we launch in India will use a similar approach and
target the premium market.

2024.05.21 21:21 Patient_Newspaper_34 How to do lists within lists for world building?
I am not well educated in writing and have no idea how to use complicated programs like World Anvil or anything, so I just use Pages or Scrivener. I want to keep the layout simple and easy to read on paper. But I have run into a new challenge: I want to write a list within a list. I have a list of historical figures in my fantasy world project. In this are a group of figures who were evil rulers. I want to have them listed so it is clear they are in this group and all on this page, not on a new page. I'm sorry I'm not good at explaining this but yeah. That's the gist of it. I absolutely love world building but my formatting skills are still not great. I appreciate any advice you have, or links to resources where they offer this sort of information. Thank you!

2024.05.21 21:14 f3ffy What are these random lines that click like buttons?
https://preview.redd.it/4ytlqqnpwt1d1.png?width=678&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ca179327a0707c73fbcdadfe7bcfaf5524c7ea0 I'm fairly new to my company and was recently given a task to look into/delete these 2 random lines above the arrow on a specific web page. The arrow is supposed to be there, and just goes to the next brick on the page. The 2 lines are "clickable" like a button, but nothing happens when you click them.
The site was set up by an agency and I don't have any coding experience. I can't even seem to find how the arrow itself is on the page. There is nothing on our Wordpress settings that I can find where this arrow linking to an anchor on the page would be, let alone the two random lines.
Any idea how to get rid of the lines myself, or should I reach out to the agency who set up the site?

2024.05.21 21:13 Not-That-P3rson Advice needed: What information should I provide a UX/UI freelancer in order to design a web product page?
Hello, I'm currently developing a self-improvement web platform, and I am the main developer. While the APIs are well-developed, I realize I have no experience in designing a webpage for web clients. I'm looking to get a comprehensive Figma with all the design definitions and screens necessary to code each complete flow.
What documents and information should I provide to a UI/UX freelancer so they can design each flow with the corresponding screens for me to implement the webviews in the middle-end? This is my first time outsourcing work, and I want to avoid wasting money on a poorly done job due to a lack of clarity.
I appreciate your feedback, thanks!

2024.05.21 21:11 Funny-Flamingo3761 Cómo ustedes ponen precio en sus trabajos freelancer?
Hola!

Hi!
I'm a computer scientist student who is interested in humanities and who wants to learn how to get start in archiving mostly digital stuff.
So far I mostly have old family VHS tapes, copies of deleted YouTube videos, old papers and old web pages. But I would love to get into preserving local queer history.
What I struggle the most is with general organisation, propper nomenclature and recording provenance.
So, are there any readings or software/skills you recommend me?

2024.05.21 21:09 TigerGardenGeek Feature Request: Extract Data from Tables (when pasting from other sources)
Way back when... Evernote had an edit option called, "Remove Tables". When you applied this option to a note, it would extract all the data (text, images, formating...) and leave it in the note without the annoying HTML table mess that sometimes happens when pasting content from emails or web pages.
I used this feature a lot. I was very sad when EN removed it. I would very much like to see UpNote add such a feature.
When pasting content (from emails especially it seems) - I get a mess as the various tables, many of them super narrow, etc. I'd love an easy way to clean this up.
(I want to make very clear: This is not related to the "tables" feature of UpNote! This is a separate thing.).

2024.05.21 21:06 CampingWorld What Are The Best RV Trips for Beginners?
There’s a lot to learn when you’re new to RVing. After purchasing your RV and equipping it with the right gear, the last thing you want is to feel overwhelmed trying to select where to camp. So we asked the question: what are the best RV trips for beginners?
Of course, we have our own opinions, but we wanted to see what the RV community felt. We asked experienced RVers which destinations or campgrounds they would recommend for beginners. With over 150 replies, here are the top five answers:
- Somewhere close to home
- State parks
- Good Sam Campgrounds
- Your backyard
- National parks
(Runner-up: Wal-Mart parking lot).
Why Stay Close to Home on Your First RV Trip as a Beginner?
The overwhelming majority of experienced RVers recommended sticking to somewhere close to home as a beginner. Their reasons were practical:
- You know where to go (home or familiar stores) if you forget supplies.
- You’re not far from your community if you need help.
- If something breaks down, towing your RV back to your house won't take long or cost too much.
- You do less driving and more time getting familiar with your RV.
- You won’t hurt your wallet on gas expenses if you overpack (which most first-timers do!)
Boondocking in your backyard is a great way to
learn about your RV and its systems. Just remember: Depending on your RV, you’ll need potable water, a way to empty your holding tanks, and a proper power supply –
30 or 50 amps.
Which Locations Make For The Best RV Trips for Beginners?
We collected specific recommendations for those who want to venture out while staying close to home. These came directly from experienced RVers nationwide who were willing to share their favorite destinations for RV newbies.
Because we don’t know where home is for you, we organized this list of the best RV trips for beginners and organized them by region.

2024.05.21 20:59 Ok-Specialist3165 Any help? Can't reinstall windows 10 or 11 without errors or blue screen
2024.05.21 20:59 KaylaKillsPlants Workflow suggestions for a widget or app to export an attribute table and related records
My public works department uses the export option on Web App builder to export a parent class attribute table, but they want the related table records exported along with them. The relationship class is 1:M, and they want the records basically joined and exported so they're one line item if that makes sense. I can do this with python, but they want to run this themselves with queries on the data. For example, she may just want the horticulture data within a certain timeframe or whatever.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a quick app/html page/widget that will allow the user to specify parameters and run this query/join/export from the web? I don't mind crunching data for them but this request comes from above me..

2024.05.21 20:59 Ashbin Virginia Weekly COVID Report for May 21, 2024
WEEKLY COVID STATEWIDE REPORT FOR MAY 21, 2024 TOTAL NEW COVID CASES REPORTED WEEK (Sun-Sat) OF: 02/04-02/10: 6,191 (VDH corrected from 5,663) 02/11-02/17: 5,432 (VDH corrected from 4,814) 02/18-02/24: 4,978 (VDH corrected from 4,494) 02/15-03/02: 3,891 (Figure is estimated from VDH data) 03/03-03/09: 3,134 (VDH corrected from 2,843) 03/10-03/16: 2,118 (VDH corrected from 1,909) 03/17-03/23: 1,764 (VDH corrected from 1,591) 03/24-03/30: 1,667 (VDH corrected from 1,449) 03/31-04/06: 1,255 (VDH corrected from 1,273) 04/07-04/13: 1,232 (VDH corrected from 1,113) 04/14-04/20: 1,151 (VDH corrected from 1,029) 04/21-04/27: 991 (VDH corrected from 899) 04/28-05/04: 885 (VDH corrected from 782) 05/05-05/11: 830 (VDH corrected from 730) 05/12-05/18: 903 (preliminary figure)
Counts reported after 4/30/24 are incomplete VDH's reporting of the numbers above (Sun-Sat) is by illness date.
COVID CASES SINCE LAST REPORT BY DAY This runs report day to report day, not Sun-Sat Case numbers are from the previous day unless indicated otherwise Previous week's cases day count in parentheses after this week's day count Report covers 05/15/2024 to 05/21/2024 Wed: 166 cases (162) Thu: 186 cases (138) Fri: 169 cases (180) Sat: 158 cases (149) Sun: 103 cases ( 91) Mon: 85 cases ( 51) Tue: 218 cases (157)
As counts reported after 4/30/24 may be incomplete, I will not be computing percentages as accuracy can not be guaranteed. I will post what the 13-week graph shows. Total new cases reported (Wed-Tues): 1,085 (928 previous Wed-Tues) 7-day average of new cases: 155.0 (132.6 last report) Cases per 100,000 Population: 1.747 (1.494 last report)
Some Figures and Percentages are usually slightly rounded by VDH The 13-week graph has been posted. Curve shows a +16.92% increase. This may or may not be accurate due to voluntary reporting. But cases seem to be have been increasing for the past two weeks.
REPORTED DEATHS PER WEEK Week of: 04/21-04/27: 1 (VDH corrected from 5) 04/28-05/04: 3 (VDH corrected from 2) 05/05-05/11: 4 (VDH corrected from 3) 05/12-05/18: 0 (preliminary figure)
The VDH death rate is never put out completely up to date due to delays in death data, which can run months. The death data above has been corrected to current reported deaths from VDH sources and is always subject to change.
The larger updated death chart covering more past weeks had not been updated when I posted, so it was not uploaded. Sometimes it seems they update it late, or even later in the week.
CURRENT POSITIVITY RATE AS OF MAY 17, 2024 CDC Region 3 7-Day Positivity Rate: 1.9% (was 2.2%, -13.64%)
US National level is 3.2% (was 3.3%, revised, last week). Highest is Region 9 (AZ, CA, HI, NV) at 6.5% These are preliminary figures which the CDC may revise next week. Tests this week were done on 1,395 samples, which is low. A low sample rate can cause the Positivity Rate to report lower.
Region 3 has the
lowest Positivity Rate in the U.S., but low sampling numbers may cause a correction next Friday.
HOSPITALS NOTE: COVID-19 hospital reporting requirements expired April 30, 2024. Data is incomplete after this date. After more thought, I am changing the Weekly's Hospital report. The only graph that has meaning now is the ER visits. All others are corrupted by a lack of reporting (and labeled as so). I saw one report on X/Twitter that in one State, 91% of hospitals were voluntary reporting. By the next week it dropped to just over 50%. So bed counts, admissions, etc., are all guesses and may lead to the wrong conclusion. But it seems hospitals
are still required to report how many Covid people they diagnosed. I noticed it tracks with the Covid rates for the past several months quite closely.
VDH reported an increase of +9.7% in ER visits last week that were diagnosed as Covid (0.34% of visits). Corrected last four weeks are now listed as 0.37%, 0.34%, 0.31% and 0.34% of ER visits. Graph posted. This graph has no special wording on it about the end of hospital reporting, so it is now the only hospital chart that is accurate week-to-week.
The stopping of formal reporting, has made, for now, the hospital admissions and bed count graphs inaccurate. So while watching them and hoping of more info, I am not going to post them in the future unless reporting is restarted in the Fall. For example, this week Covid bed use dropped by -16.7% which conflicts with the increase of ER visits. The admissions chart is basically empty.
You can look at all the charts here. FINAL NOTES My best guess is we bottomed out a couple of weeks ago, and are starting to see a slow increase in cases (+9% to +15% in the past week). We'll have to watch the ER chart, Positivity data, and wastewater to try and get an idea of what is going on in Virginia.
LAYOUT
First up is the total number of new Covid Cases for last week based on Sunday to Saturday. As the corrections VDH is putting in a week after the initial release makes following a trend impossible, I have stopped computing in this area as it would probably be incorrect.
Next is a listing of the cases from the last report to this one. It usually runs from last Wednesday to Tuesday, but could move based on holidays.
Reported deaths are next, which are based on Sunday to Saturday for the weeks listed.
The CDC Region 3 7-Day Positivity Rate is next, which at the moment just confirms or changes what the CDC put out Friday. They do another run on Monday nights taking a second look at things.
Hospital information for last week is next.
VDH's main summary page is located here. You can see all the latest trends at the link above - most graphics are interactive
EXPLANATION OF FIGURES ABOVE
Total New COVID Cases Reported Week (Sun-Sat) Of: cases reported for last week running Sunday to Saturday.
Reported Deaths Per Week: Number of deaths reported in the week (Sunday-Saturday) to VDH by dates listed.
Covid cases since last report by day: The previous 7-days since VDH's last update listed by day.
7-day average of new cases: Average number of daily COVID cases over the last 7-days
Cases per 100,000 population 7-day average: Within 100,000 people, how many were positive for COVID on a rolling 7-day cycle.
CDC Region 3 7-Day Positivity Rate (if included): The last state average percentage of PCR coronavirus tests performed that are positive. The lower the better.
Hospitals: Hospital information for last Sunday-Saturday.

2024.05.21 20:57 thorinnn_10 Is it possible to mine parameters on authenticated webpages using crawlers like paramspider or anything alternate?
I am trying to mine parameters on an authenticated web app. I have tried tools such as paramspider but it just doesn't seem to mine parameters of the authenticated pages? It keeps crawling links that one would find on the unauthenticated web pages.
