2024.05.29 11:14 maximusaemilius Alien scientists report about human maladaptive coping tendencies

The Journal of Xenomedical Biology
Author: Prof. Dr. Dr. Krill of the Vrul
The Human Manifestation of Self-destructive Tendencies and Their Signs.
Over the past few years of studying and learning to understand humans, it has come to the attention of the medical community that humans are the most volatile species, psychologically. This is not meant as negative commentary on human issues as it might seem, but merely an observation that humans have the most widely varied pattern of psychological maladaptive responses when it comes to stress and related mental illness. Where each other species tends to have only two or three typical maladaptive responses, humans have been known to have analogous representations of all known mental abnormalities.
Now this journal is not specifically about all the ways the human brain can go wrong, but more accurately about the maladaptive response I have seen in humans over the past few years primarily demonstrating self-destructive behaviors in one way or another.
You might notice an interesting pattern in my analysis today that clearly demonstrates a repetitive contradictory pattern in human self-destructive tendencies, which will demonstrate just how varied and widely differing their responses can be.
First, humans have socially destructive behavior which can come in many forms.
Withdrawal:
Withdrawal from friends or close loved ones is a common self-destructive behavior to look for in humans. This can happen on a large or small scale where the human withdraws for hours or even years. As a social species, humans find social interaction important, even if that is only remote communications with other humans. If that human begins to withdraw suddenly or even gradually over time, I might suggest being concerned about their well- being.
Now here is where the contradictions come into play, and forgive me if some of these social behaviors also overlap with the physical behaviors, with humans, they are often one and the same.
Increased socially dangerous behavior:
Now this may account for many things. Some humans will fall into a downward spiral where they surround themselves with other likeminded humans and participate in dangerous physical activities, which I will discuss later.
Increased partners:
Now, while this behavior may be common for many humans, (Ramirez et al.)((no, that is not a report to consult, but an example)) and could be argued as a physical behavior, there is cause for concern if a human suddenly increases the number of physical partners from their average. This usually accompanies reckless social behavior like not meeting the partner first before entering into a physical relationship, doing this on multiple occasions and might also be connected with the following –
Staying with an objectively horrible partner:
Now it is hard to identify why some humans do this, but often humans will choose a partner who is objectively horrible to them either physically or emotionally. Sometimes humans do this because they are afraid of the repercussions, are afraid of being alone, or they have been convinced that there is no other possible person out there who might love them. Humans put a lot of stock into physical relationships and many of them would rather be with someone horrible than be alone. Due to their social nature many humans put social interaction and partnership over their safety and mental health. If you see a human participating in this behavior, it is advised to get them help, even if the human does not want it. They deserve more than being treated horribly.
Now on occasion two humans in a downward spiral might come together and create a codependent relationship where they cannot function without one another. What the other human does the other will follow and this can lead them both into a spiral of horrible physical and mental behaviors that will cause anguish in the long term. If one of them is involved with drugs, the other will follow etc.
Now some humans might even participate in self-destructive behaviors that look good from an outside perspective. For instance, it is a common occurrence that humans overwork themselves to the point of burnout. Often humans throw themselves into their work to distract their minds and avoid the pain of something else, this may include memories or having to return to an environment where they do not wish to go. These humans will work many hours and sacrifice their social lives to do more work, causing long term stress that can lead to heart attack stroke and other physical diseases related to increased stress and heightened blood pressure. Some humans may participate in this behavior as a way to prove themselves to others, that they are either competent or hard working.
On the flipside of this there are other humans who may just stop working at all. They let everything in their lives fall apart, and stop doing anything of note causing them to lose their jobs, their hobbies, their families and their friends. This one is often related to a withdrawal from other people and might include elements of physical recklessness like drug abuse.
Secondly and including a much wider range of self-destructive behaviors, we see the physical manifestations of this phenomenon which vary widely and tend to come in opposing pairs.
Overeating and undereating:
These are two very common forms of stress response from humans. If humans have conditioned to see food as a reward for behavior or as a comforting mechanism (often developed in childhood) they will eat in order to comfort themselves and to the point where it is adversely affecting their physical health. They may eat even if they are not hungry or if they are actively full. Some humans experience digestive issues while under stress and may even refuse to eat at all. There are other extreme cases where humans, usually in response to a perceived lack of control, will regulate their food intake to the point of starvation or other food related disorders.
This is closely related to over exercising, and also has links with a perceived lack of control in their life. These humans, often paired with restricted eating, will push themselves to their physical limit to control their own bodies as a form of having a hold on their own lives. This paired with restricted calories can cause an untold amount of damage both physically and mentally. Mental disorders linked to these behaviors are known to be the deadliest of disorders known to humans.
The consumption of Drugs and Alcohol:
This is a very common and often overlooked behavior in humans. Drinking is the consumption of beverages that contain Ethanol, which when reacting in the human brain causes, extreme mental degradation related to fuzziness and euphoria. Humans find this a pleasant feeling, though it causes damage to many internal structures most primarily the liver. Unfortunately drinking is seen as a socially acceptable behavior with humans and so, excessive drinking is often caught too late or not called out at all. These humans may drink from the beginning to the end of the day and will build up a tolerance to alcohol amounts that would kill another human. They build up an immunity to the point where they need larger and larger doses to feel the same effects. They will often neglect their social connections including friends and family for a chance with the bottle.
This is the same with other illicit drugs, which may have even more severe effects on the person and my lead to drug induced psychosis. Both substances are highly addictive to the point where a human may commit horrible acts like murder, robbery, etc to get the drugs that they crave. This is usually in response to some sort of mental anguish they are trying to drown out but may be related to them becoming hooked on drugs they needed after surgery. On rare occasions, this behavior began in conjunction with destructive social behaviors which lead them down into a spiral.
Excessive partying is often paired with drug use and an increased amount of intimate partners. Many humans who have fallen into this spiral might refuse to admit that they are spiraling at all. Generally limited use of a substance can be acceptable for a human, but there are plenty of other chemicals that should not be consumed at all.
There are even some drugs that are known to be mild on the user but may cause emotional dependence. These drugs are not known to cause physical dependance, but the human can convince themselves that they require the drug to function emotionally during the day and will neglect their family, friends and lives in order to spend more time with their drug of choice Again you will see the withdrawal from social contacts as an extreme warning sign in humans.
Sleeping too much or not sleeping at all:
A human getting enough sleep is important for their mental health but sleeping too much is proven to throw off circadian rhythms and increase chances of depression or worsening depression. Humans require an amount of sleep that is no more or no less than what they need. Many humans will claim to not be getting enough sleep because they feel tired, when in reality their oversleeping causes grogginess and reduced amount of energy though it might seem counter intuitive. On the other hand, humans might refuse to sleep at all, instead occupying their time with some other activity. It is important to remember though that an inability to sleep might also be insomnia, and the human has no choices in the matter. I find that humans, in general, are horrible at regulating a proper healthy sleep schedule.
Participation in dangerous hobbies:
Now, I understand that this is common for many humans and does not indicate self-destructive behavior, but I would consider noting when a human suddenly involves themselves in dangerous hobbies after not participating for a long time, especially when that human is not careful and doesn’t take time to properly consider safety protocols.
Another very common one is humans causing intentional physical harm to themselves. This comes in levels of severity, and I would say that most humans do this to some degree or another. Often these are connected to nervous ticks or even learned behaviors from childhood. This can include, picking scabs, biting nails, picking at the skin of the thumbs or the lips, pilling hair, and biting the inside of the cheeks. These smaller behaviors are usually minor and do not require attention, they may cause scarring but are not generally connected to extreme mental anguish.
However, these behaviors can escalate dramatically to the use of knives and razors. This behavior is EXTREMELY maladaptive and indicates severe mental anguish and trauma and must be addressed immediately. These behaviors might escalate and be linked to loss of life by the human's own hand. I have not witnessed this personally, and I never intend to as I keep a very close eye on my humans.

2024.05.29 11:11 finallyjenna Unsure where to go with testing for escalating chest pain

22 mtf, smoker, 230 lbs. Abilify, lamictal, spironalactone, esteodial valerate IM. drug user primarily meth(iv but just started recently was smoking and snorting), 3 years on and off mostly off, currently for the past month or so I've been using every day), alcohol (almost every day since 16, started at 12), opoids (fent or heroin, iv also started recently and used to snort, started about a year ago) and weed (since 13, daily). Only diagnoses Left ventricular hypertrophy.
So basically I've had chest pains my entire life, with or without excersise, however movement can easily and quickly have me folded over trying to catch my breath clutching my chest and was very obviously behind my peers in cardio ability. I've never been sedentary if anything I don't sit down enough, and have always seemed more active than my peers.
Over the past few years my symptoms have gotten much worse (obviously due to substance use one would imagine) as well the added symptom of poor circulation in feet causing tingling and pain. They have been bad for years, but the escalation in shortness of breath and chest pain is concerning. obviously I need to quit substance and alcohol use for symptoms to get better entirely.
We have done a chest x ray, EKG, blood test, and stress test (using dobutamine idk if that's relevant, felt likely unable to do the treadmill) and all three indicated everyrhing is fine. I have no idea what tests would be next on the list. My PCP hasn't refered me to a cardiologist as of yet and hasn't contacted me about further steps. She seemed sure the left ventricular hypertrophy couldn't be the cause of all the symptoms.
Is there any extra tests I should be trying to get done ? given that its been a thing since I was young I would presume it's not all drug related symptoms that would stop if I were to quit ? Probably something escalated by the drug use ?

2024.05.29 11:09 krakensnaken Not too concerned but worth an ask

Hi all, I've been down a rabbit hole today and ended up here, I have had a heavy feeling that comes and goes in both feet for around 2 months, it always goes away with ibroprufen but always returns. I believed it was caused by excessive walking due to my job, but I've been off for a month now and the symptoms are the same, no better or worse. My D dimer is around 0.75 but I know this isn't a great indicator nor should it be used solely to diagnose blood clots. I have strange non blanching blood spots on both feet that cause me to believe that it is a vein issue, but due to the anti inflammatories seeming to help, I am not sure. My ankles hurt when I press on them but it seems more like the bone. I flew 4 hours for a holiday and they were incredible uncomfortable, with my feet swelling up a lot but they have not since. I saw a doctor but they told me it's overuse and that I needed physio, but I think mainly because of the blood rashes I have some questions. Bit of a jumble all this but maybe somebody has had a similar thing happen. I will get an ultrasound in a few days, just after some information in the meantime.
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

2024.05.29 10:59 dubmasters Monitoring hearth and other health metrics on a Budget??

Like many of you, I've been fascinated by the potential of wearables to provide insights into heart health and overall well-being. However, some of the popular heart monitoring solutions out there can be freaking pricey, making it challenging for those on a budget to access these tools.
Recently, I came across a free app called BodyInsights that aims to offer free heart health tracking and analysis, similar to what you'd find in premium offerings like Oura. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I'm genuinely impressed by its capabilities.
Some of the key features that have caught my attention:
There are plenty of other features that are incredibly useful, the only downside is that I didn't know about earlier!
Just curious if any of you have tried BodyInsights or similar free health tracking apps? What has your experience been like? Do you find these kinds of tools valuable? Is there any reason why I should invest in other tools like Oura (despite the ring itself)?
Please share your thoughts, as I want to make the most of the wearables without breaking my bank.

2024.05.29 10:58 Andrewobr87 Wet conditions no crank no start.

Alright this is a confirmation discussion.
I’m at work and bored thinking about my certified sh!+box project. I got a 09 jeep patriot (surprisingly low miles) guy I got it from was determined the TIPM box was shot, didn’t see any codes related to it or any indications that it was the problem, cleaned all the relays, connections, fuses, the entirety of the TIPM box. Suffered from a rough start condition. Really fought to power the starter. (12/23 new battery tested golden) Found a third party alarm poorly slapped in and nasty splices through out, removed it and patched the wires up nicely (they did use cheap pinch splicers thankfully) started up every time with no problem.
While I was on this undertaking I pulled many plastic covers off and cleaned the nasty from under them discovering a rodent’s nest. Didn’t see any obvious chomped wires or indication of further damage.
Got home from work and decided to test the starting and running of the jeep because TIPM be crazy. It was a moist morning with heavy condensation, put the key in, all lights and priming. No crank no start. (Warms and drys our starts right up no issue) I beseech y’all am I going through this starter circuit looking for chewed loose wires or do I suspect TIPM box be tippin into the grave? How would you proceed?

As a fitness enthusiast, I recently purchased the Weider Cast Iron Kettlebell to incorporate into my workout routine. So far, the kettlebell has been a game-changer in helping me tone and sculpt my muscles. The high-quality hammertoe finish on the kettlebell provides excellent durability, while the extra-wide grip ensures comfort and ease of use during my intense workout sessions.
Despite its sturdy design, there were a few minor hiccups that caught my attention. The paint chipped on some parts of the kettlebell, which could be improved upon to enhance the product's overall appearance and longevity. Additionally, some users have reported receiving their kettlebells in poor packaging, but in my case, the product arrived safely and without any issues.
In conclusion, the Weider Cast Iron Kettlebell is a fantastic addition to my fitness journey. Its durability and comfortable grip make it an ideal choice for anyone looking to tone and sculpt their muscles while burning calories fast. Although there are some minor improvements that could be made, the kettlebell's high rating and positive user reviews speak for its effectiveness and quality.

This French Fitness kettlebell is incredibly durable and well-built, and I've had no issues with it even after using it almost daily. However, at 50 pounds, it might be a bit too heavy for beginners, which could be a potential downside.

I have been using the Cap Barbell 50 lb Kettlebell in my daily workout routine and I am absolutely in love with it. The product is versatile, well-constructed, and perfect for both beginners and experienced fitness enthusiasts.
The first thing that stood out to me was how solid and well-built this kettlebell is. Its high-quality cast iron construction ensures that it can withstand years of rigorous use without any signs of wear or damage. Additionally, the wide opening handle provides a comfortable, secure grip that makes it easy to perform a variety of exercises with one hand or two.
Another highlight of this kettlebell is its flat bottom, which allows for easy, safe storage and the ability to be used in specific flat-bottom kettlebell exercises such as renegade rows and handstands. This feature sets it apart from other kettlebells on the market and adds an extra level of functionality to your workout.
However, there are a few cons to consider as well. Some users have reported issues with the coating on the kettlebell, which can be damaged during shipping or handling. Additionally, the thick handle may be less comfortable for those with smaller hands.
Overall, I highly recommend the Cap Barbell 50 lb Kettlebell as a versatile and effective piece of workout equipment. Its solid construction, comfortable grip, and unique flat-bottom design make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to improve their strength, stamina, and balance through a complete total-body workout.

🔗50lb Shock-Proof Soft Kettlebell Set

As an avid fitness enthusiast, I was ecstatic to try out the NZG Iron Sand Soft Kettlebell set. This 50lb collection comes with four different weights - a green 5lb, yellow 10lb, orange 15lb, and pink 20lb kettlebell—all designed with shock-resistant capabilities.
One standout feature of these kettlebells is their iron sand core, which adds extra weight but also manages to provide versatile workouts, allowing me to target smaller muscle groups. Another impressive aspect is its unique design. The color-coded handles make it easy to differentiate between weights during intense workout sessions while the extra-wide, hard-shell handles ensure comfort during two-hand grips.
However, there is one minor drawback. Even though they're shock-resistant, the sound produced when dropped is quite loud, so I had to be mindful of my surroundings. Nevertheless, overall, these kettlebells have significantly improved my workout routine with their sturdy construction and ability to add variety to my workouts.
Having used this product for a while now, I can confidently say that investing in the NZG Iron Sand Soft Kettlebell set would be worth every penny, especially if you're looking for a diverse range of weights with a comfortable grip and good drop resistance.

🔗Lifeline 24 kg/53 lb Single-Piece Kettlebell

https://preview.redd.it/ee26mkjbxb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9be90c4b73af33eec5abaee0115a35f4c861fbc
I recently got my hands on the Lifeline Kettlebell, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer for my workouts. This 24kg kettlebell is not just your average piece of fitness equipment; it's a multifunctional tool that combines strength training, muscle coordination, and aerobic exercise all in one.
The first thing that stood out to me was its design. The Lifeline Kettlebell is made from first-run/virgin iron ore, giving it a strong, balanced, and single-piece casting. It also comes with a flat wobble-free base, which is perfect for those tricky workout moves. And did I mention how good it looks? The clean, consistent surface and durable powder-coat finish give this kettlebell premium level quality.
Now, let's talk about performance. The Lifeline Kettlebell delivers functional whole-body fitness by combining the burn of cardio with muscle-building strength training and compound movements. Its classic design, popularized in Russia a few hundred years ago, allows for countless ways of use, including swings, presses, rows, twists, squats, and snatches. The fact that it is weighted off-centered makes it even more challenging, as it recruits more stabilizer muscles and works the targeted muscles through a wider range of motion.
One thing I noticed during my workouts was that the handle size is perfect, not too big, not too small. This made it really comfortable to grip, even during those intense workout sessions. And speaking of grips, the Lifeline Kettlebell handles chalk better than other competitors I've tried, making my workouts a lot smoother.
However, there's one small con that I couldn't ignore. The initial grip was a bit rough on my hands, causing some discomfort during the first few uses. But I'm glad to say that the grip has since worn down a bit, making it more comfortable to use now.
In conclusion, the Lifeline Kettlebell has been a great addition to my workout routine. Its combination of strength training, muscle coordination, and aerobic exercise is a winning combo that has helped me improve my overall fitness level. If you're looking for a versatile piece of fitness equipment that will last you a lifetime, then the Lifeline Kettlebell is definitely worth considering.

Buyer's Guide

When considering purchasing a 50 lb kettlebell, several factors need to be taken into account. In this buyer's guide, we'll discuss important features, considerations, and general advice to help you make an informed decision.

Materials and Durability

https://preview.redd.it/dg2d5twbxb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=022a229589965f012b96612237209ed6397e5c2e
Kettlebells are typically made of either cast iron, steel, or rubber-coated steel. Cast iron kettlebells are known for their durability and cost-effectiveness. Steel kettlebells are more resistant to chips, but generally come at a higher price point. Rubber-coated steel kettlebells offer similar benefits as steel kettlebells, with added protection against floor damage and reduced noise levels during workout sessions.

Handle Size and Shape

The handle size and shape of a kettlebell significantly impact user comfort and ease of use. A thicker handle may provide better grip security, but can be more difficult to grasp for individuals with smaller hands. Some kettlebells feature contoured handles, which are designed to accommodate different hand sizes and workout styles. Consider your hand size and preferred grip when selecting a kettlebell.

Weight Stability

Ensure the kettlebell you choose has a stable weight distribution. Some models may have slightly off-center weights that may make them more challenging to use or cause unnecessary strain on your wrists and arms during workouts. Reading online reviews from other customers can help you determine if a particular kettlebell has any issues with weight stability.

https://preview.redd.it/mtrhdubcxb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ab58e4ce3b5f90e3b7828c3def0923b24804394

Brand Reputation and Warranty

Choose a reputable brand with a history of producing high-quality fitness equipment. This will help ensure your kettlebell is well-made and reliable. Additionally, research the warranty offered by the manufacturer, as this can provide added protection if the product develops any defects or issues over time.

Price Range

50 lb kettlebells can vary in price depending on materials, brand, and additional features like color or textured grip. It's essential to establish a budget before beginning your search, as this will help narrow down your options and prevent overspending on a product that may not suit your needs. Remember that investing in a high-quality kettlebell can save you money in the long run, as it will likely last longer and require fewer repairs or replacements than cheaper alternatives.

Customer Reviews

  • Before making a purchase, take the time to read online customer reviews of the 50 lb kettlebell models you are considering. This can provide valuable insight into the durability, ease of use, and overall quality of each product.
  • Pay close attention to any recurring issues mentioned by multiple reviewers, as this may indicate a potential problem with the design or manufacturing of the kettlebell.

2024.05.29 10:50 the_Bandit_Man I (24M) can't get over a girl (23F) I was chasing after for 6 years, what should I do?

So I (M24) met I'll call her Emily (F23) when I was 16 years old when we were in high school. We met because we had to do a group project together in our American Sign Language class. She was a very shy, soft spoken girl who didn't say a single word to anyone in class. We got along really well and she immediately became a good friend of mine. She had a boyfriend when the project started, but both of us knew that we started growing feelings for each other. The project we were working on was a live performance using a song and dance choreography. The song we used was "Are you gonna be my girl" by Jet (which is very fitting given what would happen later). By the time we were done with the performance, she had broken up with her boyfriend (or at least that's what she told me), and I had been single for a while. Initially, she told me that she needed some time to get over the breakup, and I was totally fine with that. I completely understood that she wasn't just going to get over a 2 year relationship overnight and be ready to date me right away. She and I had many conversations at that time about how we wanted to be together, she just needed time to recover emotionally from that.
6 months went by, and the conversation about getting into a committed relationship came up again. By this time, I had met her entire family, spent holidays with her, and bought her presents for Christmas (classic bf/gf stuff). Yet after all this time, she said that she was still not ready for a relationship. I had grown slightly impatient, but I knew that she had a hard time trusting men and "putting a label on things", so I waited. I waited another 6 months to have that conversation with her again. At this point, she and I were about to graduate college, and we both had talked extensively about what we wanted our future to look like together. I asked her to be my girlfriend, she said she wasn't ready. I asked her what was keeping her from wanting to be in a relationship with me, but she didn't have an answer. This started the first argument we ever had about what it meant to be in a relationship. I told her that we already did all of the things that anyone else would do in a relationship (besides sex), and it didn't make sense why she was so resistant to making the small adjustment. She wanted nothing to do with the conversation, so I dropped it. Another 6 months went by, and the same thing happened. A year and a half had gone by at this point, and she still insisted that she wasn't ready for a relationship. I asked her "do you just not want to be in a relationship with me?", and she replied "I just don't want to be in a relationship until I know that I'm ready". Every time I asked her how long she thought it would take for her to be ready, she'd say "I don't know" and try to move on to talking about something else.
Flash forward to when we are 19. We both already graduated, and she's in her first year of college. I had dropped out of college at this point, and I was just working odd jobs until I could figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Throughout this year, she would subtilty bring up what kinds of dogs she wanted to get when we moved in together, and what wedding venues she wanted to pick for our wedding. At a certain point I asked her "Why are you talking about us getting married if you don't even want to date me right now?". She would shrug her shoulders and say that it was fun to think about that kind of thing. Regardless of what I said to her, she would adamantly refuse to have a conversation about us "being official", and her actually being my girlfriend. We would kiss, hold hands, say "I love you", everything that you'd expect from a relationship. The only difference is that she'd always say that I was her friend when she'd introduce me to her friends or family. I really wanted to just give up at this point. I had no idea what to do, or what I could possibly change about myself to make it so I would be good enough for her. She knew that I wasn't seeing anyone else, and she wasn't either, or at least that's what she was telling me. I had convinced myself that if I didn't make it work with her, then I wouldn't be able to find anyone else. She kept reassuring me "If you just wait, I promise we'll be together", which I believed wholeheartedly. I just had no idea what would need to happen for that to actually be true. She had convinced me that I was the problem, "I have a hard time trusting you" she'd say to me. I had done nothing to make her lose trust in me. I had always been by her side, and I never was disrespectful to her. I knew that she had problems that she was going through, but I never held that against her. I had done nothing but be supportive to her and take care of her, but it seemed like it wasn't enough. She subtly would tell me things that I should change about myself to make her happier, which I was okay with at first. She would tell me that I shouldn't wear certain things or act a certain way around her, which I listened to. I thought that if I listened to her, then that would mean I would be able to change things. All I could do now is either wait or leave, and I chose to wait. She made it sound like I didn't have to wait long for something to finally change, but I was very wrong.
4 years later, I was coming up on my 23rd birthday. 6 years had passed since we first started talking, and nothing had changed. She was still giving me no indication that she was willing to change anything. By this point I was fed up. I had no idea what I could possibly do that would make any difference in what we were. I started to feel like I was walking on eggshells when I talked to her. She made me feel like I was one move away from messing everything up. I couldn't figure out what she wanted me to do. Every time I would talk about anything remotely romantic or "lovey dovey", she would just brush it off and not even acknowledge it. She stopped kissing me one day, and I didn't even realize it. She started slowly backing away from me without me even knowing. I still have no idea what I did. I thought I had to have done something to deserve the way that she had been treating me. I had no idea what was going on anymore.
The last conversation that we had about being together she told me "I thought you were over it by now, I haven't felt that way about you for a long time". I was crushed. She gave me no indication that she felt that way. She never told me that she wasn't wanting to pursue a relationship anymore. I didn't think that her backing away was because she didn't love me anymore. She started working a lot more, and seeing me less. She got really busy with work, and I thought that was taking up a lot of her time and energy. None of the things that she said were gonna happen ever happened. I look back at those conversations that we had about us having a happy life together, and my heart breaks. She made it sound like she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me, but now it seemed like she wanted nothing to do with me anymore. I still have no idea what happened, even as I'm writing this.
I know that I'll never get to see all of the things that she promised that I would, but it's okay. I feel like this has been me going through the stages of grief with this whole situation, so thank you for reading.
TL:DR: I chased after a girl for 6 years and never was actually in a relationship with her. I still have a hard time moving on. What should I do?

2024.05.29 10:48 UdderCowtastrophe Recovered accidently deleted save file won't load

I accidently deleted some save files and recovered (some of) them using Recuva. The program indicated that they were in good health (no overwritten clusters), but when I try to load them in-game I just get kicked back to the main menu. Does anyone know how to fix that?
I noticed that those save files won't show the world map when selecting them in the load menu, so I was wondering if some information related to the save files is being stored elsewhere?
P.S.: I have no internet access atm, so it might take a while for me to reply, but I do appreciate any help I can get.

Recently, I had the chance to try out the Guard Dog LIGHTSAFER Stun Gun w/ Tac Light. This handy device is perfect for those who want to feel secure in their day-to-day life. With its concealed high voltage stun capability, I was able to immobilize an aggressor before they could get too close. The powerful bolt was not only intimidating, but also effective in making them retreat.
The stun gun's 400-lumen flashlight comes in handy in a variety of situations, whether you're walking home late at night or just taking a shortcut through a dark alley. Additionally, the battery life indicator was a real lifesaver, as it allowed me to keep track of when the device needed recharge. The stun gun's shockproof anti-roll body, made of type III aircraft-grade aluminum, gives it the durability it needs to endure any tough situation. Overall, the Guard Dog LIGHTSAFER Stun Gun w/ Tac Light has proved to be a reliable and effective device for anyone seeking self-defense tools.

🔗Portable LED Stun Flashlight with Ergonomic Grip and Lithium Battery

From my personal experience, the PS Zap Stun Stick, or as I like to call it, the "pink powerhouse, " has become an essential part of my daily routine. As a fitness enthusiast, the soft rubber coating and non-slip molded grip were a game-changer for those long walks and late-night runs. The stun gun color, combined with the two ultra-bright LED bulbs, adds an extra layer of safety without compromising style.
The included lithium CR2 batteries, wrist strap, and belt case ensure convenience wherever I go. However, it's not all rainbows and sunshine with this powerful little device. After experiencing moderate to severe pain from a stun gun in the past, I can tell you the Zap Stick delivers a powerful punch. The arching sound is quite loud too, making it even more intimidating for potential attackers.
While some users found the built-in holster lacking in grip, I was pleasantly surprised by how sturdy it was. The tough rubber coating and finger grooves offer an excellent grip, even when I'm feeling a bit sweaty during my runs. And let's not forget the bonus feature: a bright flashlight for those dark encounters.
Now, a word of caution: this product might not be for everyone. Some users have reported it not being as powerful as advertised or having issues with the shipping process. It's essential to check if the device is allowed in your state before purchasing. But overall, for me, the Zap Stick has become an invaluable part of my daily self-defense routine.

As someone who has tried the Zap Light Extreme 1mil Blk Stun Gun/Flashlight, I can say it's a powerful and versatile tool for personal protection. The 6 Ultra-sharp Spike Electrodes offer extra protection and can penetrate clothes, helping you to ward off potential attackers. The built-in high-endurance Ni-MH rechargeable battery ensures the product is always ready when you need it, while the ultra-bright LED bulb shines for an impressive 5 hours per charge.
I loved the convenience of the USB wall charger, USB car charger, carry case, and wrist strap that came with it, making it easy to carry and store. The only downside I encountered was the flimsy belt clip that sometimes made it difficult to secure the stun gun in my pocket. Overall, the Zap Light Extreme is a reliable and intimidating tool for self-defense and personal safety.

🔗Long Range Taser for Safety and Accuracy

I recently had the chance to try out the Taser X1 Kit in my daily life, and I have to say it was quite the experience. The moment I held it, I could sense the quality of the device - it felt rugged and reliable in my hands.
One of the most impressive features was the built-in laser, which eliminates aiming guesswork and significantly enhances accuracy. This made me feel confident that I could protect myself if needed.
However, I also noticed that the product does require some level of maintenance, as it has non-rechargeable performance power magazines. This means that you'll need to keep an eye on the stock and be prepared to replace them when necessary.
Overall, the Taser X1 Kit proved to be a powerful tool for self-defense, with some minor inconveniences thrown in. It's certainly a product that warrants consideration for those looking for an innovative non-lethal solution for personal safety.

🔗Long-Range Taser with Increased Probe Spread

Imagine stepping into the safety and security of your home, armed with the confidence that comes from owning a Taser 7 CQ Home Defense device in yellow. This non-listing device stands out among the rest for its impressive features and power.
Picture this: You're in the middle of a home-defense situation when the need for a backup or follow-up taser arises. The great news is, the T-7 holds not one but two replaceable cartridges, providing you with that extra edge in the face of danger. Gone are the times when you'd have to recharge batteries - this device comes with a trusty replaceable battery pack.
The Dual-Shot technology works wonders, improving the dart's accuracy and speed, almost doubling its kinetic energy for a better connection. How cool is that, huh? The Adaptive Cross Connect technology ensures the probes reach an optimal spread when deployed just 3 feet away from your target, no more fumbling.
Armed with a range of 12 feet, the T-7 has you covered in close quarters with its contact stun feature. Even better, its 5-second exposure cycle will give you the time and space to act. With the Taser 7 CQ Home Defense device in your hands, you won't have to worry about encountering trouble on your turf.
Not only is it perfect for home-defense, but law enforcement agencies worldwide trust it for their security needs. What a product to own, right? So next time you're in your home, protected by something powerful and reliable, remember, it's the Taser 7 CQ Home Defense device that stands by your side. Stay safe!

🔗High-Intensity 50,000 Volt Taser Strikelight 2 Kit with Flashlight and Wrist Strap

The Strikelight 2 Kit from Taser International is a unique blend of safety and security. I was impressed by its combination of an 80-lumen flashlight and a stun gun within the same device. This makes it convenient for those who want to carry a personal defense tool without needing to separate light from stun features. With two separate activation buttons, it's easy to switch between the two modes without any accidental discharges.
What stood out to me is the quality of the materials used for the device. Its lightweight anodized finished aluminum and high-strength polymer front lens holder make it sturdy and reliable. Additionally, the anti-roll design ensures that the stun flashlight is easy to use.
The Strikelight 2 Kit comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts for up to 5 hours of continuous light or 100 5-second stun discharges when fully charged. I appreciated the inclusion of a wrist strap, which made it easier for me to carry the device.
While the Taser Strikelight 2 Kit is a powerful personal protection tool, it does require a bit of recharge time, which may seem inconvenient to some users. However, the versatility of the device and the combination of its features make it a valuable addition for those seeking personal safety.

🔗Tasers for Self Defense with Built-In Charger and Flashlight

I've never felt safer than when I carry the 80,000,000 Volt Zebra Multiguard in my pocket. This self-defense tool is sleek and easily concealed, but don't be fooled by its unassuming size. With its cutting-edge micro-technology, it packs quite a punch.
One of the stand-out features is the super-loud siren, which is great for drawing attention to any dangerous situation and potentially defusing it before it escalates. And let's not forget the blinding 120 Lumens LED flashlight—perfectly timed to blind an attacker while you make your escape.
The rubberized coating provides a secure grip, and you can easily carry it in your hand or pocket for convenience. The included built-in charger is a must-have feature, ensuring you're always ready for action. Lastly, the heavy-duty nylon belt loop holster keeps your Multiguard safe and secure when not in use.
While the Zebra Multiguard packs a powerful punch, it does have some drawbacks. The electrifying stun feature can be a bit too intense for some users, so it might be worth considering how well you can handle it. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for those seeking personal protection and safety on the go.

🔗Zap Hike N' Strike: Secure LED Flashlight and Stun Gun Hiking Staff

https://preview.redd.it/95m323fdwb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19a290a7100b2f7601046e5d74801bdd0ba919c8
As a frequent hiker, I've always been on the lookout for ways to stay safe in the great outdoors, especially when it comes to potential encounters with wildlife. When I stumbled upon the Hike 'n Strike, I was intrigued by the concept of a stun gun and flashlight all in one.
Upon receiving the product, I was impressed by the weight, which felt substantial yet manageable. The bright orange shaft made me more visible in the woods, and the removable reflective yellow band added an extra touch of safety. The rubber handle felt comfortable to grip, and the adjustable shaft allowed for a perfect fit for a variety of hikers.
One of the most noteworthy features of the Hike 'n Strike was the placement of the button for the stun gun. Located almost two feet away from the prongs, I found it easier to activate and aim the stun gun without accidentally shocking myself. It's a design that sets this product apart from other stun guns on the market, which often place the button too close to the prongs.
However, there were a few downsides to the Hike 'n Strike. Firstly, the included batteries do not last long. With frequent use of the flashlight and stun gun, the batteries drain quickly, and I found myself needing to replace them more frequently than I would have liked. It would have been convenient if the product came with a rechargeable option.
Secondly, the rubber cover for the prongs tends to come loose and is easily detachable. I've lost one already and have had to replace it with electrical tape. I would have preferred if the company provided a stronger solution for keeping the cover securely attached.
Overall, the Hike 'n Strike has impressed me with its unique design and emphasis on safety and security during hikes. Despite the drawbacks, I would recommend this product to fellow hikers who value their safety and desire a device that serves multiple purposes.

🔗Next-Generation Long Range Taser for Self-Defense

The Taser Bolt 2 has proven to be a reliable and powerful energy weapon in the world of self-defense. Its discreet look is deceiving, and the device has saved me from numerous dangerous situations. The wrist strap makes it easy to carry and ready to use at a moment's notice.
The fact that the Bolt 2 can establish up to 15 feet of safety is incredibly reassuring, and that it can lock an attacker for up to 30 seconds is a game-changer. I've tested it with the Axon Protect app, which alerts emergency dispatch the moment I use it, providing me a sense of comfort knowing help is on the way.
One downside is its weight - the device weighs only 1 oz, making some users cautious about its safety. However, with proper handling, this doesn't pose an issue. Overall, the Taser Bolt 2 is an excellent self-defense device that could save your life one day.

🔗Taser X2 Professional Series: Compact, Long-Range, Contact Stun Device for Home Protection

https://preview.redd.it/8pysnqcewb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e982a570ba756e1d96debd53011eea9f6fcbad7b
When I first heard about the Taser X2 Professional Series, I was intrigued by its ability to provide immediate back-up. As someone who values safety, this device stood out to me as a game-changer.
The first feature that caught my attention was the Neuro-muscular Incapacitation (nmi) technology. It was truly amazing how it temporarily overrode an attacker's central nervous system, limiting their muscular control for 5 seconds. This feature really gave me the confidence I needed during those close encounters.
The laser targeting paired with the powerful LED flashlight was also a highlight. The targets were hard to miss, even in low-light situations. The 15-foot safety range was perfect for ensuring ample space to make a safe escape.
One drawback I experienced was the weight of the device. It wasn't heavy enough to weigh you down, but it was a noticeable difference compared to other personal protection devices I've used.
In conclusion, the Taser X2 Professional Series has become an essential part of my home security and daily life. Its advanced technology, durability, and ease of use make it a must-have for anyone looking to strengthen their personal protection plans.

🔗Long Range Taser for Self Defense and Security

The Guard Dog Knightro stun gun is an impressive piece of self-defense equipment that I've been putting to the test in my daily life. Not only is it built like a tank, but it's also incredibly powerful and capable of stunning potential attackers. The Type III aluminum alloy construction and reinforced body can withstand a variety of impacts, making it a reliable tool for any situation.
One of the most striking features of the Knightro is the concealed inner stun technology. This allows for a seamless integration of the stun gun and flashlight, making it more discreet and versatile for everyday carry or security purposes. The built-in tactical flashlight is another impressive aspect, offering three light settings including high, low, and emergency flashing strobe.
While overall the product has been an excellent addition to my self-defense arsenal, it does have a few drawbacks. The stun gun has quite a loud and imposing discharge, which may startle bystanders. Additionally, the switch between the flashlight and stun gun can be a bit cumbersome and somewhat difficult to operate in a high-stress situation.
Overall, the Guard Dog Knightro stun gun is a powerful and reliable tool for anyone looking to enhance their personal safety. It's built to withstand even the toughest conditions, and the seamless integration of the stun gun and tactical flashlight is a great feature. My only concern would be with the switch between the light and stun gun, which can be a bit tricky to operate in a panic.

🔗2 Million Volt Non-Lethal Taser for Personal Protection

https://preview.redd.it/1kmhgd1fwb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a7a07891a88f80a7a12dfaa2b213cb224685dee
I recently received the PS Zap Enforcer 2 Mil Blk Zapen and couldn't wait to try it out. With its 2 million-volt stun gun feature, I felt it would be my new best friend in ensuring my safety during my evening walks. However, one thing I noticed was the size - it felt a bit too large for my hands, particularly for someone like me who is only 5'3.
Using this product, I found the flashlight to be extremely useful. The bright beam made it easy to navigate through the pitch-black nights, while the stun gun function made me feel safe knowing I could defend myself if needed. The metal exterior and sturdy construction added to the product's reliability.
However, the charging issue proved to be a bit of a pain. After using it for a few days, the battery seemed to drain quickly, and despite being warned about this, I still found myself struggling to keep it powered throughout the day. Another minor issue was the lack of a smaller or more portable option, as the size could be a bit unwieldy for some people.
Overall, the PS Zap Enforcer 2 Mil Blk Zapen has its pros and cons, but it's definitely a useful tool for those seeking a bit of extra security in their daily lives. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a stun gun flashlight, but just remember to keep an eye on the battery life to avoid being left in the dark.

🔗Maximum Strength Tactical Stun Gun with Flashlight & Holster

https://preview.redd.it/izoj3vhfwb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae90e26d34a3a244ad533a987e4c91b0a2954c2d
The Sabre 2.517 UC Tactical Stun Gun with Flashlight has been a helpful addition to my self-defense arsenal. The stun gun's maximum strength of 2.51 uC ensures that it packs a powerful punch, giving me the confidence I need when I'm out and about. The 130-lumen LED flashlight is a great feature, helping me disorient anyone who might be threatening me from a distance. The fact that it has a rechargeable battery is an added perk, and I appreciate how the charging cord is included in the package.
However, there have been a few minor drawbacks. Firstly, the holster that comes with the stun gun doesn't seem to be as well-made as the rest of the product. I had to resew the stitching on the belt loop strap after it broke only a few days after putting it on. Secondly, the charging light only worked the first time I plugged it in. Since then, I have no idea if it's actually charging or not, which is a bit concerning.
Overall, I would say that the Sabre 2.517 UC Tactical Stun Gun with Flashlight is a reliable and powerful self-defense tool that I'm glad to have by my side. Despite the minor issues I've encountered, it has proven to be a valuable addition to my daily life.

When I first got my hands on the Taser StrikeLight 2 Kit White, I was immediately impressed by its sleek design. It looked like a powerful tool meant for serious moments, but at the same time, it was surprisingly comfortable to carry around with me.
The 700-lumen high beam setting was simply mind-blowing. I found myself reaching for it whenever I needed a good, bright light in a dark situation. The low beam and red mode were also incredibly useful, providing just the right amount of light for specific scenarios.
I have to admit, I was more than a little intimidated by the thought of using this device as a stun gun. But, after putting it to the test, I was pleasantly surprised by how effective it was at close range. Its stun gun capabilities provided a sense of security and safety that I hadn't quite expected.
But, nothing's perfect. Although the device itself is relatively light, I noticed that the charging cable seemed to be a bit of an afterthought. It was a little flimsy, and I had to be careful not to tear it by accident.
Overall, the Taser StrikeLight 2 Kit White has been a reliable companion in my everyday life. It's saved me from a few nervous encounters, and the built-in stun gun capabilities give me a sense of security that I never knew I needed. While there are a few cons to consider, the pros outweigh them by far.

Overall, the PS Products Zap Edge stun gun impressed me with its powerful build and user-friendly features. But remember, it's always crucial to use such devices responsibly and only as a last resort for personal safety.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to self-defense devices, few options are as popular or effective as a 50,000-volt taser. These powerful devices can incapacitate an attacker and give you precious time to escape or call for help. However, with wide variety of tasers available, it can be hard to determine which one is the best fit for your needs. In this guide, we'll outline the most important features to consider when purchasing a 50,000-volt taser, as well as some general advice to ensure your safety and well-being.

https://preview.redd.it/p3oihf1jwb3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5a228c1e2d264fae0dca193b7d5bd096c76375e

Power and Voltage

One of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a taser is its power and voltage. What is a 50,000-volt Taser?

A 50,000-volt Taser is a brand of stun gun that emits an electrical discharge to incapacitate an attacker or deter a threat. These devices typically operate by delivering a high-voltage, low-current shock designed to cause muscle contractions and temporarily disable the target.

How does a Taser work?

A Taser works by utilizing a high-voltage electrical current passed through its probes. When the probes touch the target, the electrical current travels through the body, causing the muscles to contract. This can lead to temporary loss of muscle control and immobilization, providing an opportunity for the user to escape or defend themselves.

What is the difference between a Taser and a stun gun?

  • A Taser is a brand name for a specific type of stun gun that relies on a high-voltage electrical discharge to incapacitate the target.
  • A stun gun is a more general term that refers to any device designed to deliver an electrical shock to incapacitate an attacker.

Are Tasers legal in my area?

The legality of Tasers and stun guns can vary depending on the state or country you reside in. It is essential to research and follow the laws particular to your location before purchasing or using one.

What are the safety features of a 50,000-volt Taser?

  • Most Tasers have a safety switch or locking mechanism that must be engaged before the device can be activated. This prevents accidental discharge.
  • Tasers usually come with warning labels or audiovisual alerts, indicating that they have been activated.

What should I do if a Taser is discharged in my vicinity?

If you are within the proximity of a discharged Taser, it is crucial to avoid touching the target or the ground where the electrical discharge has passed. If you accidentally come into contact with the discharge, move away from the area and remove any worn clothing or belongings that may have been in contact with the discharge.

2024.05.29 10:46 Leather_Ad_6188 Lifting weights but not losing weigh.

Hello ✌️ I kinda desperately need your help. I’m a female 29 years old, 80KG, 173cm trying to go lose weight and go back to 62kg . I’ve been lifting weights since end of March 2024 however, for some reach the scale has gone up - I used to be 75kg and now I’m 80kg). My mean plan is quite basic to be honest, including 1 protein shake for breakfast and chicken with rice for lunch. After workout I drink another protein shake and potentially a homemade sandwich -ham and cheese . Note that I’m also doing 5miles on the treadmill, sometimes I drink a shake and a chicken burger that my mom brings from work but that’s pretty much it. I did check my TDEE indicating that I should eat 2,449 calories per day and 1,949 during cut periods however, I don’t believe I eat that much . I know for sure i’m doing something wrong but I don’t know what . Pls help

2024.05.29 10:29 secondchanceswork Transparent Profit per Employee [analysis]

Transparent Profit per Employee [analysis]
Generated using ChatGPT:
Author: "Novel" idea; new financial metric- Requiring companies to publicly disclose 'how much profit' is generated (in $) per employee.
Additionally: publishing the mean (and/or) average salary per employee.
Rationale- "honest and transparent reporting of the value of the average employee."
Thoughts? Concerns?
Pros? Cons?
Thanks.
AI: 'Introducing a financial metric that requires companies to publicly disclose the profit generated per employee, along with the mean and/or average salary per employee, could have significant implications. Here’s an analysis of the idea:

Pros

  1. Transparency:
    • Employee Value: This metric can help highlight the financial contribution of employees, providing a clearer picture of how much value each employee adds to the company's profitability.
    • Wage Discrepancies: It could expose discrepancies between employee salaries and the value they generate, potentially fostering fairer compensation practices.
  2. Informed Decision-Making:
    • Investors: Investors would gain insights into the efficiency and productivity of a company's workforce, aiding in more informed investment decisions.
    • Job Seekers: Potential employees can use this information to gauge the financial health of a company and its commitment to fair pay.
  3. Internal Improvements:
    • Management: Companies could use this data internally to identify areas where productivity can be improved or where investments in employee development are needed.
    • Policy Making: It can help in creating better policies regarding workforce management and compensation strategies.
  4. Public Pressure:
    • Corporate Responsibility: Public disclosure may encourage companies to adopt more responsible and ethical business practices regarding employee compensation and workload distribution.

Cons

  1. Privacy and Sensitivity:
    • Confidentiality: Some companies might view this metric as a breach of confidentiality, especially regarding salary disclosures.
    • Employee Morale: Disclosing salary data can lead to discontent or morale issues if significant disparities are revealed.
  2. Implementation Challenges:
    • Standardization: Developing a standardized way to calculate profit per employee across different industries and company sizes could be complex.
    • Compliance: Ensuring all companies adhere to this reporting requirement might require significant regulatory oversight.
  3. Potential Misuse:
    • Comparisons: Simplistic comparisons between companies without considering industry-specific factors, business models, or company structures could lead to misleading conclusions.
    • Pressure on Employees: Companies might exert undue pressure on employees to increase productivity if they perceive that their reported metrics are not favorable.
  4. Short-Term Focus:
    • Long-Term Neglect: Companies might prioritize short-term profits over long-term growth and employee well-being to present better figures in their reports.

Thoughts and Concerns

  • Balanced Reporting: While transparency is beneficial, it is crucial to ensure that the data is contextualized properly to avoid misleading interpretations.
  • Regulatory Framework: A robust regulatory framework would be necessary to standardize the metrics and ensure compliance.
  • Holistic Approach: This metric should be part of a broader set of financial and non-financial indicators that provide a comprehensive view of a company’s health and its treatment of employees.
Overall, while the idea of disclosing profit per employee and mean/average salary has merit in promoting transparency and fairness, careful consideration must be given to its implementation and the potential consequences.'
Author: Understood (theoretical).
Added complexity {I am unsure about how this would be properly measured}: what about measuring the inclusion of independent contractors?
I'm sure such individuals could fall under a spectrum: a few "high wage earners" (above mean), and, probably, many more close to the average wage.
AI: 'Incorporating independent contractors into the proposed financial metrics adds another layer of complexity, but it can provide a more comprehensive view of a company's workforce and compensation practices. Here’s how it could be approached, along with potential challenges:

Approaches to Inclusion of Independent Contractors

  1. Separate Disclosure:
    • Distinct Categories: Companies could separately disclose metrics for employees and independent contractors. This means reporting the profit generated per employee and the average salary for employees, as well as similar metrics for independent contractors.
    • Aggregation: Combining the data for both groups to provide an overall view while also presenting the data separately to maintain clarity.
  2. Weighted Metrics:
    • Proportional Representation: Adjust the metrics to account for the proportion of work contributed by independent contractors. This might involve weighting the profit and compensation based on the hours worked or the value generated by contractors relative to employees.
  3. Standardized Reporting:
    • Uniform Guidelines: Develop standardized guidelines for how companies should report metrics involving independent contractors. This could involve industry-specific adjustments to account for the varied roles and contributions of contractors.

Pros of Including Independent Contractors

  1. Comprehensive View:
    • Full Workforce Insight: Including independent contractors provides a more accurate representation of the total workforce and its contribution to company profits.
    • Fair Compensation: It highlights compensation practices for all contributors, potentially encouraging fairer treatment and pay equity.
  2. Market Transparency:
    • Investor Information: Investors gain a clearer understanding of how much companies rely on independent contractors and how these contractors impact profitability.
    • Policy Making: It aids in formulating policies that address the needs and contributions of the entire workforce.

Cons and Challenges

  1. Measurement Complexity:
    • Data Collection: Gathering accurate data on independent contractors can be challenging, especially if they work on varying schedules or project-based contracts.
    • Consistency: Ensuring consistency in how contractors' contributions are measured and reported across different companies and industries.
  2. Contractual Variations:
    • Diverse Arrangements: Independent contractors may have diverse contractual terms, making it difficult to standardize their inclusion in financial metrics.
    • Temporal Fluctuations: The number and contribution of contractors can fluctuate significantly over time, affecting the stability of the reported metrics.
  3. Regulatory and Ethical Concerns:
    • Classification Issues: There are potential legal and ethical concerns around the classification of workers as independent contractors versus employees, which could be highlighted by such reporting requirements.
    • Economic Pressure: Companies might shift more work to contractors to improve reported metrics, potentially undermining job security and benefits for employees.

Implementation Suggestions

  • Incremental Approach: Start with voluntary disclosure and gradually move towards mandatory reporting, allowing companies to adapt and refine their data collection processes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders, including industry groups, labor unions, and regulatory bodies, to develop fair and practical reporting standards.
  • Data Verification: Implement mechanisms for verifying the accuracy of reported data to ensure reliability and prevent manipulation.
Including independent contractors in financial metrics requires careful consideration and robust frameworks, but it can lead to a more inclusive and transparent understanding of a company’s workforce and its economic impact.'
Author: Cool! For later- "Understanding the real economy. If it's truly a small business: who cares as long as (they) are generating 'social' profit."
AI: 'Got it! We'll explore that idea further later. If you have any other questions or need more information on a related topic, feel free to let me know!'
Disclosure: I have no financial stake in any of the companies mentioned in this post.

2024.05.29 10:25 itsallalittleblurry2 Rememberings

It had transpired like this: a woman who lived next door to us at the time had said some unkind things to young Bud. Her son had hit or tried to hit him, and Bud had shoved him away. No big deal, but the lady took exception to it.
I had my back turned at the moment, doing some yard work, and was far enough away that I had not heard, as well as had not seen.
Our younger daughter raced past me into the house to tell Momma (she correctly surmised that She would want to know).
An unbroken string of shouted curses, the sound of bare feet pounding across the hardwood floor of a house raised on concrete blocks, and I sensed with some alarm that something was amiss.
The screen door flew open as I dropped the rake I was holding, and Momma came charging out. She cleared the steps midcry without touching a single one, and charged across the yard, long black hair flying.
She was wearing nothing but an old plaid shirt of mine, long sleeves rolled, buttoned down the front, and hanging to mid-thigh. The unbuttoned tails of which were flying backward to reveal a little more. I paused for the briefest of moments to enjoy the view. I’m only human. And have I mentioned she’s Pretty?
But then remembered myself and gave chase. From her proclamation of “I’ll kill you, you fucking bitch!!”, I presumed that her intentions were not good, concerning her obvious target.
That poor woman was in a bit of shock, mouth open and eyes round. And was just Standing there. As Gandalf would have advised: “Run, you fool!”
The first thought that ran unbidden through my mind was: “I don’t have money for bail.”
I cut her off at an angle, and snatched her off her feet. From behind, and I made sure to pin her arms to her sides. She wore her nails longer then, and I wanted no part of those.
It wasn’t hard to hoist her high enough that her feet were off the ground. She was only 4’ 9 1/2”, and hovering at the time between 90 and a hundred pounds.
Holding into her as I carried her back toward the house was the problem. She was squirming and twisting and kicking Me, her bare heels beating my shins and the sides of my legs like bongo drums.
And caught me with a good backward head butt. My fault - should’ve anticipated that. I thereafter had the good sense to tuck my face between her neck and shoulder.
And she was cursing like a drunken jarhead having a Good time as he was preventing himself from being ejected from a bar he did not wish to leave. In Spanish And English. She’d spent a lot of time around a lot of Marines at our last duty station - guess it’d rubbed off. They’d all liked her. So did I.
Interspersed with: “Put me Down, OP!!”
“Nope.”
“You better let me go, you motherfucker!!”
“Not a chance.” Pushing the screen door open with my foot.
I stepped inside with her and held onto her that way.
“Put me Down, you sonofabitch!!”
“Not ‘til you calm the hell down! Owe! Stop kicking!”
Her screaming and cursing gradually lessened, until, calmly: “It’s ok. You can out me down now.”
“Promise?”
“I Said it, didn’t I?!”
As soon as her feet touched the floor, she tried to bolt for the door again, the pint-sized liar! Here we go again.
Eventually I was sure I Could trust her, and I set her on her feet again. The object of her affections had surely, by that time, fled the scene and barricaded herself inside her house. Or hidden under the nearest parked car, whichever was closest. I would have.
I had a moment when she headed toward the kitchen, and I remembered the door to the outside there.
She: “Relax. I want a drink of water.”
I was limping the next day. You’ll do that when you have bruises up and down your legs, and said legs had tightened up. Even had some on the outside of my thighs - how had she managed that? Had a nice bruise high on one cheekbone. I’d taken less damage from some men I’d fought.
It reminded me of when I’d first started seeing her a decade or so before. We’d gone to a late movie, and we’re now walking toward the car in a now nearly empty lot. It had been full when we’d earlier arrived, causing us to have to park at the far edge, near a stand of high bushes.
I didn’t mind the walk. She was who I sensed she was even then. Untold beauty in miniature. Back and shoulders straight, he’d head high. A classic Spanish face such as I’d seen in old paintings, her father’s father having emigrated from there. One night, lying in bed together, I’d said: “I’ve met you before, you know.”
“Oh? And how is that?”
“I’ve seen your face looking at me from the walls of art galleries in cities in different parts of the world.”
I’d haunt the galleries in major cities, when we’d put into port, every chance I had - saw some wonderful old originals that way.
She was Perfection, as far as I was concerned, on that night. Long black hair falling loose down the back of the high school band jacket she wore above a pair of softly worn and faded denim jeans that clung to her perfectly. Brushing her hips, and catching highlights from the light on a lamp post we passed under.
Slender, proud, and unmatchable at 22, walking with a dancer’s grace.
And three men stepped out of the bushes as we approached the car. Probably not an issue, but they weren’t looking our way, as people normally would. It’s natural to give at least a glance. A small nod of greeting or acknowledgment. But they hadn’t.
On the streets, in the City where my brothers and I had done most of our growing up, you had to learn to read people and developing situations. Be aware and wary at all times. If a group of men were approaching you on the sidewalk, they and you going to pass each other, a glance and small nod of acknowledgement indicated no ill intent. A brief meeting of the eyes. Especially important if you yourself were alone.
But if they pointedly looked everywhere but At you, and made as if to ostentatiously ignore you, it was time to get ready. And you wanted on your person something with which to defend yourself. They would have their own. A sap or good knife, though illegal, PD would overlook if they found one on you. They understood the character of the place as well as we did.
That had saved me from being beaten, robbed, or worse on at least one occasion; being aware of what was about to happen. With no time or room to run, I’d stepped back into a recessed boarded-over store front. Those often, as did that one, kind of funneled or narrowed slightly the further back they went, until after seven feet or so, you had your back to the door at the narrow end.
Good defensive position. They’d have to come at you head-on - couldn’t do it from your back or sides. And not much room in which to maneuver.
A brief standoff, as they blocked my exit, and considered their options. Eye contact Now, the pricks. But I had something in my band by then, and at least one of them would get hurt, too.
They decided it’d be too much trouble, and went on their way. Easier pickings somewhere else. None of us had said a word.
I’d waited to make Sure they had, and hadn’t just been trying to trick me and draw me out. Then, after making sure the coast was clear, I did the same. I’d ventured alone into a part of town not my own, in which my brothers and I were not known. I’d been foolish to.
The things you had to know in that place.
A handgun, though, was another matter. Stopped and searched and one found on you, you were going to have a very bad day Before you got to the station house. And another bad one after. Too many of them had been killed with one. Just unwritten rules that were understood by all.
But still, there were times and situations when you needed one. They weren’t at all hard to find - didn’t even need to leave the neighborhood. And no paper trail to trace one back to you.
I motioned Momma to fall back a little, and she understood, and did. Three of them, but I knew I could take ‘em if I had to. I had before. And I had her with me to think about.
We both slowed our walk, as they and we drew nearer to each other, our paths about to cross at an angle. Get ready.
But they continued on their way. Just some guys taking a shortcut, maybe.
Paranoia? Not at all. In the inner city ghetto world in which my bros and I had lived, those not paying attention, and oblivious to what was going on around them, were the ones who got hurt. Killed, sometimes.
Momma stepped up beside me then, smiled up at me confidently, and I watched her slip what she’d been holding in her hand back into her purse. And laughed delightedly. The pretty little savage had been prepared to back me up all along.
My little honey badger.
I asked her once, years later, apropos of nothing, just making idle conversation during a long drive: “Would you kill for me?”
“To keep someone from hurting you? Of course I would. You’d do the same for me.”
That simple answer, and the easy confidence in which it was uttered, made me feel warm inside.
Another time, during the years we’d spent in California, when we were both still so unfashionably young, she and I had gone to a club in town for a much-needed night out.
She was looking better than I’d ever seen her that night, and that was saying quite a lot. A white summer dress with lots of lace. Black hair a river of shiny silk down her back. Silver at her throat, and in her hair. Silver hoops dangling from her ears. Silver bangles on her arms. The bright red lipstick she favored then.
I’d left her alone to make a quick head call, and had returned to find another man had taken my place in my absence, doing his best to chat her up. She watching his face in amusement and contempt, not saying a word.
I was used, by then, to other men looking at her. It didn’t bother me. Why should it? She was who and what she was. I’d’ve been looking, too. But this was a little much.
I walked over to where they both were, met his eyes and smiled. He stammered a hurried apology, face turning red, and headed for the door.
She and I looked at each other, and both started laughing at the same time. Worked every time - I never had to say a word.
“Why didn’t you tell ‘I’m to fuck off?” I asked.
“Didn’t need to, Babe - you were here.”
And I’d thought: “I always will be.”
I made a good friend at that our last posting, and she was the impetus of it. A very able and capable Lieutenant in our unit. He’d asked me one day: “Sgt OP, your wife is Latina?”
“Hispanic. South Texas girl by way of California, Sir.”
“I saw the two of you out walking the other day. Man, she has that long black hair! She reminds me of the small village in the mountains I grew up in in Cuba. The women there wore their hair like that. You don’t mind me saying so, she’s quite lovely.”
“That she is, Lt. That she is.”
“I’d say you’re a lucky man, Sgt.”
But I already knew that.
I liked Lt C a great deal, and we worked well together. Our new First Sgt didn’t seem to, though - they butted heads frequently. Top didn’t care for me, either, for that matter, and didn’t try to hide it. But considering C’s many outstanding qualities, I took That as a compliment.
All a long time ago now. Many years have passed. Her hair’s much shorter now, and has some white in it. She’s gotten a little rounder, and frets over it, though I continually reassure her it doesn’t matter - that she still makes me smile just by being in her presence, and is still as beautiful as ever.
She’s doing an aerobic workout every morning, though, along with some women on a U-Tube channel; determined to slim down. Can’t tell her anything - nothing new there.
And I’ve been using a walker today, for the downright humiliation of it. Better than falling on my butt, I guess. Knee’s starting to feel better, though. Doesn’t hurt as much, and starting to bend a little and take a little weight again.
When I was young, I could take just about anything. Fell out of the back of a moving pickup onto pavement when I was 19. Picked myself up, wiped off the blood, and laughed it off. We all thought we were immortal then, The Boys and me, until we learned we weren’t.
Had a surgical procedure performed the year before that with no anesthetic, due to circumstances, and hadn’t made a peep. Ever have an open bone-deep wound afterward flushed out with saline? Stuff Burns, brother.
And now my gimpy self, lol.
Hear here’s gone, though, with a storm blowing in. Thunder and lightning, strong, cool wind picking up. Lots of rain. Gonna sit outside here and enjoy it - love a good storm. There are certain things in life you don’t want to miss.
A buddy and I defied previous orders once, and snuck out on deck as our ship was passing through a typhoon it the Philippine Sea - wanted to experience it up close and personal. Experience of a Lifetime, and didn’t get blown overboard! Standing on deck trying to keep our feet under us as we watched the shrieking wind blow rain and sea- foam completely sideways was a thing to Remember! The high-quality weed we’d smoked only made it better.
The two of us were just surprised we were the only ones out there. Who in their right minds would willingly miss This? Afraid of getting in trouble, the lot of ‘em, the chickenshits. I usually was anyway, so meh.

2024.05.29 10:25 labab99 How can I learn better patience when working with significantly less effective coworkers of equal seniority?

To describe my work environment, I work on a very small team at a mid-sized company. We manage a codebase of around a couple thousand lines of code. Our team lead was recently reassigned, leaving myself and another engineer as co-leads, with a small handful of people we are currently training or contracting. We have both been working on this team for about a year, the first 3/4 of which he worked almost exclusively on a small, isolated area of the code, whereas I took it upon myself to learn the bigger picture of our codebase, why things were the way that they were when we first started, and in general touch as many components as possible so that I have a strong mental map of our codebase's past, present, and probable future course.
So, what has really been frustrating me is that the guy I co-lead with seems to really struggle with what I would consider to be fundamental aspects of software development. He really does not see the purpose of code reviews, or object-oriented Python code, or keeping unrelated feature branches separate. I keep trying to remind him that we do code reviews not just for ourselves now, but also for ourselves in 6 months, and for whomever else may come across out code.
Let me clarify that my issue is not that he does not perfectly understand code he hasn't worked on. Knowledge can obviously always be improved. It's that so many of the things he does seem to indicate a more underlying issue in terms of either ability or desire to both think through problems and not avoid having to figure out for himself how things work.
When it comes to his coding itself, so often there are glaring quality issues like exclusively using 30-character, visually indistinct variable names within a self-contained function, spending two full days white-boarding and implementing a N^2 graph algorithm, only to have to rewrite it twice, first because it was producing totally incoherent results, and then a second time because he never checked to see what type of return value the dependent component was expecting. Just a couple weeks ago I had to walk him through setting up a debugging environment on his computer so he could finally execute code at will. 11 months in. Sometimes I feel like I am talking to a first year CS student, and I'm trying really hard to but it is getting increasingly frustrating to constantly be re-asked to explain fundamental aspects of our codebase's software patterns/practices, triage X-Y problems involving convoluted workarounds, and also facing strong pushback during every little process-related discussion.
What I'm looking for here is advice on how to be more patient with this coworker. The moment I really realized there was an serious issue with my ability to maintain my patience was when he asked if he could make a copy of a feature branch that was still under review, add all of the changes from his unrelated feature branch on top of it, and then either merge only his branch, or do a second rebase after the review of the first completes. Let me clarify that these two feature branches are not interdependent or overlapping at all. He just wanted to make use of some of the API test setup steps I'd written. This eventually lead to a heated discussion about why a solution so complicated was needed in the first place, and in general how he is just as much an owner of the code as I am and should be able to run it with minimal effort.
For what it's worth, I tried my best to not simply ask "why", but also give constructive suggestions. I suggested to him to do a checkout without committing, or copy/paste the relevant lines, or use Postman, or throw together a meager few lines of requests library code to make sure our (collaboratively-written and heavily-documented) API was reachable from outside his Docker container. But he was completely adamant that he could only accomplish this using the full set of changes, and the way he kept highlighting his need for the "test suite setup" code (literally one endpoint call with 4 near-constant string arguments) suggested to me that he either doesn't understand what role the setup code actually plays, is facing another hidden X-Y problem, or believes it to be too difficult to make the maximum of 2 API calls himself in order to test his container ports. I'm not sure how I can continue to work with him without damaging our relationship because these sorts of issues are starting to get really old.

Achieve Your Dream Smile: The Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry
When you think of a beautiful smile, what comes to mind? Is it perfectly aligned teeth, a dazzling white shade, or perhaps a harmonious blend of both? Cosmetic dentistry has evolved significantly over the years, offering various treatments designed to enhance the appearance of your teeth and boost your confidence. In this blog post, we will explore the many benefits of cosmetic dentistry and why seeking the Best Cosmetic Dentistry in Salt Lake can transform your smile and your life.

The Transformative Power of a Smile

A smile is a universal gesture of happiness and friendliness. It's often the first thing people notice about you, and it can leave a lasting impression. However, not everyone is born with a perfect smile. Cosmetic dentistry provides solutions for a range of dental imperfections, from discolored teeth to gaps and misalignments. The impact of a beautiful smile extends beyond aesthetics; it can significantly improve your overall well-being.

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry encompasses a variety of procedures aimed at improving the appearance of your teeth and gums. These treatments can address issues such as:
  • Discoloration and staining
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Gaps and spacing
  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Worn or uneven teeth
Cosmetic dentistry can be as simple as teeth whitening or as complex as a full mouth reconstruction. The goal is to create a smile that is both beautiful and functional.

Popular Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments. It involves removing stains and discoloration from the teeth, resulting in a brighter, whiter smile. Professional teeth whitening can achieve results that over-the-counter products cannot match.

Veneers

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that cover the front surface of the teeth. They can correct a variety of issues, including discoloration, chips, and gaps. Veneers are designed to look like natural teeth and can provide a dramatic transformation.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a long-term solution for missing teeth. They consist of a titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as a root for a replacement tooth. Dental implants look and function like natural teeth, providing both aesthetic and functional benefits.

Invisalign

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces for straightening teeth. It uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into their desired position. Invisalign is popular among adults and teenagers who want to straighten their teeth discreetly.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are used to cover damaged or decayed teeth, restoring their shape, size, and strength. Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth. Both crowns and bridges are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
The Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry

Improved Appearance

The most obvious benefit of cosmetic dentistry is an improved appearance. Whether you're getting teeth whitening or veneers, the result is a brighter, more attractive smile. This can make you look younger and more vibrant.

Enhanced Self-Esteem

A beautiful smile can boost your self-esteem and confidence. You'll feel more comfortable showing your teeth when you laugh, smile, or speak, leading to more positive interactions with others.

Better Oral Health

Many cosmetic dentistry procedures also improve your oral health. For example, straightening your teeth with Invisalign can make them easier to clean, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Dental implants prevent bone loss in the jaw, which can occur when teeth are missing.

Long-Lasting Results

Cosmetic dentistry procedures can provide long-lasting results. With proper care and maintenance, treatments like veneers, dental implants, and teeth whitening can last for many years, making them a worthwhile investment in your smile.

Convenient and Efficient

Advancements in cosmetic dentistry have made treatments more convenient and efficient. Many procedures can be completed in just one or two visits to the dentist. Techniques and materials have also improved, ensuring that the results are natural-looking and durable.

Choosing the Best Cosmetic Dentistry in Salt Lake

When seeking cosmetic dentistry, it's crucial to choose a provider with the right experience and expertise. The Best Cosmetic Dentistry in Salt Lake offers state-of-the-art treatments performed by skilled professionals. Here are some factors to consider when choosing a cosmetic dentist:
Qualifications and Experience
Look for a dentist with specialized training in cosmetic dentistry. They should have a proven track record of successful treatments and satisfied patients. Ask to see before-and-after photos of previous work.
Comprehensive Services
The best cosmetic dentists offer a wide range of services to address all your dental needs. Whether you need teeth whitening, veneers, or dental implants, you should be able to get all your treatments under one roof.
Advanced Technology
Modern cosmetic dentistry relies on advanced technology for precise and effective treatments. Ensure that the dental practice you choose uses the latest equipment and techniques.
Patient Reviews
Read reviews and testimonials from other patients to gauge the quality of care provided. Positive feedback and high ratings are good indicators of a reputable cosmetic dentist.
Personalized Care
Every smile is unique, and the best cosmetic dentists understand the importance of personalized care. They should take the time to understand your goals and create a customized treatment plan that meets your needs.
Maintaining Your New Smile
Once you've achieved your dream smile through cosmetic dentistry, it's important to maintain it. Here are some tips to keep your teeth looking their best:
Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily to remove plaque and prevent cavities. Use a fluoride toothpaste to strengthen your teeth and protect against decay.
Avoid Staining Foods and Drinks
Certain foods and drinks can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries. Try to limit your consumption of these items and rinse your mouth with water after consuming them.
Visit Your Dentist Regularly
Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are essential for maintaining your oral health. Your dentist can monitor your teeth and gums, detect any issues early, and provide professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar.
Protect Your Teeth
If you play sports or grind your teeth at night, consider wearing a mouthguard to protect your teeth from damage. Avoid using your teeth to open packages or chew on hard objects.
Healthy Diet
Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products can help maintain your dental health. Foods high in calcium and phosphorus strengthen your teeth, while crunchy fruits and vegetables help clean your teeth naturally.

Conclusion

Cosmetic dentistry offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond just improving your appearance. From boosting your self-esteem to enhancing your oral health, these treatments can have a profound impact on your life. By seeking the Best Cosmetic Dentistry in Salt Lake, you can achieve your dream smile and enjoy the many advantages that come with it. Remember to maintain your new smile through good oral hygiene practices, regular dental visits, and a healthy lifestyle. With the right care, your beautiful smile can last a lifetime.

2024.05.29 10:23 khalisdar Did Nancy Pelosi poke a sleeping dragon?

The recent developments in the political, economic, and military spheres, known as the 'Poking Sleeping Dragon' situation, saw notable escalation following Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan on August 2, 2022.
Throughout discussions on Muslim student activism, a common question arises regarding the role of women in leadership within Islam. While I have often hesitated to address this question in the past, it is important to note that my intention was to encourage the participation of girls in the Muslim Student Club at colleges to facilitate the club's activities.
The old village people used to say, "Girls are the first to ask for marriage, and the first ones to ask for a divorce," and "Men are the last ones to ask for marriage and the last ones to ask for a divorce." As children, we did not understand these things, but as we grew up, we found out the answer. Many studies have shown that girls are more likely to initiate marriage and divorce and that many of them also like to remarry their ex-husbands.
Many women desire marriage because they imagine finding a husband who will provide care, support, and lifelong happiness. However, after getting married, they are often confronted with the reality of the situation, which can be frustrating and lead to thoughts of divorce. After the divorce, they may realize that the ideal partner they imagined does not exist, so they consider remarrying their ex-husband.
From the above analogy, we understand that emotions often drive women’s decision-making, while men tend to view things more realistically. Nancy Pelosi made a provocative statement without fully grasping the seriousness of the situation, which was driven by emotion.
To the point, international and national media reported that China's military recently showcased a robot dog equipped with an automatic rifle during military drills with Cambodia. The robot dog demonstrated in the China-Cambodia "Golden Dragon 2024" exercise is designed to serve as a new member in urban combat operations, replacing human soldiers for reconnaissance and target striking.
The video also featured an aerial drone with a mounted automatic rifle, highlighting China's "variety of intelligent unmanned equipment." The use of military robots and drones is not new, with the US Air Force and other countries also demonstrating similar technologies. Drones' lethal capabilities, particularly demonstrated during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, have proven effective in modern warfare.
Despite China's export controls on drone technology, the country is one of the world's leading drone exporters. According to many military experts, the presence of robotic dogs in joint exercises with foreign militaries indicates an advanced stage of development.

2024.05.29 10:21 labab99 AITAH for raising my voice at my coworker when he seemingly couldn't perform basic functions of his job?

The moment I really realized there was an serious issue with my ability to maintain my patience was when he asked if he could make a copy of a feature branch that was still under review, add all of the changes from his unrelated feature branch on top of it, and then either merge only his branch, or do a second rebase after the review of the first completes. This eventually lead to a heated discussion about why a solution so complicated was needed in the first place, and in general how he is just as much an owner of the code as I am and should be able to run it with minimal effort. I ended up being what I would consider to be pretty rude, and afterwards he left for two hours without taking his laptop.
I'm not sure how I can continue to work with him without damaging our relationship because these sorts of issues are starting to get really old.

2024.05.29 10:21 Better_Highlight1380 Replacing complex excel model with powerapps

I work with a fairly sophisticated excel tool that has degraded in performance over time as we've increased the tool features. The file size remains relatively small, however many of the calculations and data validation for inputs are complex, resulting in constant freezes and slow processing times. The actual volume of data passing through the tool is limited.
We are currently evaluating replacement options, and the front runner is a powerapps & powerBI based solution. I have no experience using power platforms , but my limited research indicates that we may run into very similar issues using this approach, given the origin of the performance issues is calculation complexity as opposed to sheer data volume.
Any general guidance on a) why powerapps are a good/bad fit for this issue or b) things to consider for successful execution?

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.
