2024.05.21 22:56 schnitzel_envy Looking for recommendations for the the best chicken soup options.

My wife will be living in the Silver Lake area for work for the next six months. I'll be going back and forth, but for the most part she'll be on her own. I'm the chef in the family and she's not great when it comes to meal planning. I'm cooking some big batches of her favorites to stock up her freezer, but I'm trying to find good options for pickup or delivery that she can rely on. One thing she never gets tired of is chicken soup. Chicken noodle, chicken and vegetable, pretty much anything with a good chicken broth that doesn't contain any seafood (allergies). Can anyone recommend some tasty chicken soup options? Are there any fresh soup brands available in grocery stores or farmers markets that are any good? Any recommendations from local soup aficionados would be hugely appreciated!

2024.05.21 20:09 yoonpie311 Soba Stir-fry with Tempeh

Soba Stir-fry with Tempeh
Soba Noodle Stir Fry - quick and delicious! Sauce is inspired by traditional chow mein. Added chilli bean paste for depth of flavour and a bit of spice!
Ingredients (2 servings):
  • 1/2 - 1 tbsp oil of choice (I used avocado oil)
  • 1/2 cup cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 head bok choy, thinly sliced (white and green parts separated)
  • 1/2 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green chili, chopped (optional)
  • 2 medium carrots, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup edamame (defrosted)
  • 200g tempeh (I used pre-marinated), tofu, or bean of choice
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper powder
Noodles: - 2 portions soba noodles or noodles of choice
Sauce: - 1 tbsp dark soy sauce - 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce - 1/2 tsp chilli bean paste (dobbanjang) - 1/2 tbsp toasted sesame oil - 1.5 tbsp maple syrup or sweetener of choice - 1/2 tsp Chinkiang rice vinegar (sub regular rice vinegar or lemon juice) - 1/2 tsp cornstarch (optional, see note)* - 1.5 tbsp water
Note: - The sauce, in this ratio with the other ingredients, usually coats the noodles just fine even without cornstarch. If using lesser quantity of veggies, use cornstarch to thicken the sauce.
Instagram Recipe Link](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7PMlHAIgEu/?igsh=ajNzZm9uc3RlcG0x)
Directions:
  1. Prep the Noodles:
    • Cook the soba noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside. I toss it in a bit of sesame oil to prevent sticking. Placing it in cold water works well too.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the ingredients for sauce until well combined. Set aside. If using cornstarch, mix it with water (cold or room temperature) before adding the remaining ingredients (to ensure no lumps).
  3. Cook the Veggies and Tempeh:
    • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add half tbsp oil of choice.
  • Add the minced garlic, green chili (if using), and sliced onion, white parts of bokchoy and cabbage. Sauté for about 3 minutes until the onions start to soften.
  • Meanwhile, Pan fry tempeh / tofu separately for about 3 minutes on each side and set aside.
  • Add the carrots, red bell pepper, and edamame. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until just tender.
  • Stir in green parts of bokchoy and white pepper powder. Cook for another 2 minutes until the greens are wilted but still vibrant.
  1. Combine and Finish:
    • Reduce heat to medium. Add the prepared sauce. Let it sizzle for about 30 seconds. Add the cooked noodles to the wok. Toss everything together to coat the noodles and veggies evenly with the sauce. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes to heat through.
Garnish with toppings of choice and enjoy! 🥳

2024.05.21 19:56 connordddm Used set or new Costco Callaway Edge set?

Used to play golf a lot with my dad as a kid & teen. Haven’t played in years and starting to pick it back up again (I’m now 25).
No idea what my handicap is, but I have a decent swing and im not a complete beginner. I’m looking to finally upgrade my clubs to something I feel more confident with, but not ready to blow a whole grand.
Still gaming a set of TopFlite inertia clubs my dad bought me when I was ~13y/o. I upgraded the driver and got a Taylormade R7 and Odyssey white hot putter. I’m really not a fan of the TF irons or 3 wood that came with the set so that’s my main priority.
I’m a lefty and it’s been really hard to find good used deals. I’m considering buying the Costco callaway edge set for $780 CAD, or I found this on Facebook marketplace for $500 CAD:
Looking for some opinions on this.

2024.05.21 18:59 bullcitythrowaway0 Which brand of 70% chocolate is highest quality/most accessible? 1st time making a Marquise cake!

Hi! Im making a Marquise Cake for the 1st time, and it only has 5 ingredients. I know I need to use top quality ingredients so the flavors shine through, is there a brand of 70% chocolate you’d recommend?
From my research, it seems Valhrona or Guittard are highly rated on this sub. I’m in the USA and was hoping to find something high quality that would be available at Whole Foods, Costco, local grocery stores etc. I suppose I could order online if it was worth it, but that seems like overkill. I’m not a baker, so idk if the difference in taste is that noticeable to warrant custom ordering ingredients online.
For context, I’m trying to impress a date whose favorite dessert is chocolate cake. Thank you!

2024.05.21 18:26 petrachor_ rewriting the module - advice/suggestions?

hey folks, just found this sub & i'm glad that lmop still gets attention! apologies in advance for any typos, my phone is old as balls and hates typing on reddit mobile.
I'm running the mod for three of my good friends; one is an experienced player and the other two are brand new, so we decided to start "simple".
BUT (big but) a few things led me to want to rewrite a lot of the module: - my players are a bunch of hippie nerds with interests in ecology, moral philosophy, etc. and don't gravitate toward the typical dungeon crawl. - 2/3 of my players listened to TAZ: Balance and would be insufferably annoying with references if i left the majority of the plot and NPCs alone (we're only two sessions in and I've already had to stop play to shut down repeated references to barry bluejeans and the fantasy costco jingle) - the experienced player was also in the party last time I ran this module as-written and she's a good sport but I'd love to shake things up for her
So, I decided to keep the skeleton of the module but slant it heavily towards a sort of environmentalist angle where motivations and impact aren't necessarily cut-and-dried, and the PCs have to make in-character decisions based on their internal morality instead of just playing as 'protags actions good, antagonists actions bad'.
If anyone has any suggestions for other twists or ways fo rework some of the other sidequests, I'd love to hear ideas! Clarifying questions about this variant are welcome too, if you want to borrow any of my rewritten material feel free :) TIA!
tl;dr - looking for suggestions to alter sidequests in LMoP to slant toward more environmental/ecological themes, putting PCs in ethical binds, and/or maybe some related horror elements

2024.05.21 17:41 PaigeLeigh03 Instant ramen question

Hey, so I have a weird thing about textures. To me, Maruchan’s noodles have a really good texture. I can eat them and not think about it.
But I would love to love other brands as well.
Does anyone know of any other ramen brands that have noodles with the same texture as Maruchan PACKS (not their cups).
Thanks. 🙏🏻 ❤️

2024.05.21 09:09 caseygolf2604 After 46 days, here is what I have learned from going nearly sugar free (low sugar).

As a slightly obese college student who was (and still is) looking to lose weight, and improve the skin on my face, going to a low sugar diet was relatively easy to start. It is about having motivation and committing to starting. I had a problem where I would be eating large quantities of ice cream at night and would crave it all of the time when I had time alone. I really wanted to change this habit, but ice cream and other sweets were hard to put down. I decided to really commit to the bit and make sure I would be checking nearly everything I eat and seeing how much natural and added sugars were in each thing moving forward toward this nearly sugar free (low sugar) transitional diet. For me, my exercise is moderate, and will occasionally go on walks and play sports, but that is the extent of it.
I set some rules for myself for how this low suganearly sugar free diet would go. 1. Absolutely no sweets of any kind (Candies, Ice Cream, Pastries, etc.) 2. No sweeteners of any kind (Sucralose, Aspartame, Stevia, etc.) (I don't have sodas, fizzy drinks or anything like that anyways so this one didn't really apply to me.) 3. Avoid added sugars if possible (or lower amounts of added sugars if alternatives aren't feasible) Things like bread sometimes have a little bit of added sugar, so going for breads that are low in this department are better than ones with high amounts of added sugar. Things like Brioche buns and sandwich bread can be really high in sugar like 7-15 grams, while a giant white sub roll from Jersey Mikes only has 3 grams of sugar. 4. Check all labels for serving size, sugar content, and bad sweeteners such as corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. Even if product says there is 0g of added sugar on the label, there still might be sweeteners that allow for the brand to mark the product as sugar free, as the serving size can dictate that sometimes. 5. Aim for a high protein, high fat, medium carb diet daily. 6. No more than 50 grams of total natural sugars per day. Don't eat too much fruit. 6. Avoid all highly processed foods and snacks when possible 7. Reduce dairy intake, do away with cheeses on occasion
Here's a timeline of what occurred so far through these first 46 days
First two days: I would think about ice cream and sugars occasionally, but was easy to put aside, and had the motivation to eat a regular low sugar diet.
Days 3-10: Easily the toughest days. I would just be thinking about sugar and craving it constantly. I would not leave my mind to have a bite of a cookie, or a scoop of ice cream. It made me want sugar so badly, which made me realize how addicted I actually was to sugar. I lost 10 pounds in 10 days, which kept me engaged and motivated to continue this diet.
Days 10-14: Headaches! I had a few headaches and it sucked, with each headache lasting about 30 minutes to two hours. Apparently, this is extremely common, and even expected. During these days without the headaches, I still had cravings for ice cream and other sweets, but I noticed it was getting easier to avoid these things.
Week 3: Even from day 10, I noticed that my breath, even with brushing my teeth, flossing, mouthwash rinsing, and tongue cleaning, smelled horrible, and it did not make any sense to me. This goes away eventually and it has not returned ever since the end of week 3. I went searching around, and I guess this is a common thing.
Weeks 4 -7 (present): The cravings have not completely gone away regarding sugar, but every time I think about them, I just think that they seem way too sweet, and it actually turns me away from actually wanting to purchase ice cream or make any sweets. Since the start of this diet, I have lost a total of 15 pounds at about 1 pound per week. Going low sugar or nearly sugar free is so much easier after the 3rd week, and avoiding sugars feels so much easier.
There is a caveat here in that I did have a regular 24 oz gatorade on day 10, but I was playing tennis and another half of a gatorade sometime during week 4 when playing golf. So there were two times that I "violated" my diet rules, but I'll give myself a pass because I was outside, sweating, and needed the sodium electrolytes at those given times.
There are a couple of tips that I can offer that made this diet much easier to do. 1. Snacking. One trick that I have been using in order to feed into my cravings a little bit is to eat apples and popcorn. - Popcorn, especially homemade popped popcorn (not microwaved), is a cheat code. Popcorn contains no sugar at all, and is low in calories, making cravings easier to manage. For me, I have a popcorn maker that I put in like half a tablespoon of avocado oil with about 1/3-1/2 cup of popcorn kernels, and top with a tablespoon of butter and salt. If you are looking for a more convenient option, or don't have a popcorn maker, or don't want to make popcorn on the stove, I would suggest looking for the bagged popcorn, that is cooked in Avocado or Olive Oil instead of the seed oils (because seed oils contribute to fatty liver disease, amongst other health problems), even though these can be really tough to find. If you live in the Northeastern United States, Wegmans sells a bagged popcorn cooked in Olive Oil that is a really good option. - Apples were another food that I ate both when I wanted a snack, and occasionally for dessert. Apples are high in natural sugars, but are also high in fiber, so it'll be easier for the sugar to pass compared to processed sugars. I would have organic Pink Lady apples and the Costco, Kirkland Signature all natural peanut butter that has no added sugar to it. The only ingredients are just peanuts and salt. I prefer natural peanut butter to the ones with sugar in it anyways, so this was a go-to option. For me I would have up to two apples a day, and that was about all of my fruit intake for the day. Obviously, berries and other fruits are also good options for snacking and desserts, but just make sure not to overdo it because if you consume too much natural sugar, it will have a similar affect to consuming processed sugar. 2. If you are someone who carries a little extra weight, continue to weigh yourself everyday, it keeps you motivated to continue. There will be some days where you might gain a pound here, and lose a pound there, but over the course of a week, you'll notice that you'll slowly lose weight over time. 3. Treat yourself on occasion (but not with sugars). Eating a healthy balance of proteins, fats, and carbs is important. But every once in a while, do not be afraid to have pizza or burgers and fries, and/or other more traditionally "unhealthy" foods. But be careful, ketchup, for example, for just a tablespoon has 3 grams of added sugar in it, so be careful about dipping sauces and condiments. Still watch out for sugars! 4. Identify what healthy foods you like to eat for meals, and continue to have those things if possible. Cook at home instead of going out to eat if possible, unless you can afford to purchase and identify healthy takeaway foods.
Another important note, I have read in several places that sugar can have a similar affect to alcohol with several bodily functions, and can prohibit weight loss while also resulting in weight gain. I would highly recommend to avoid all alcohol at all costs because it might actually be counter productive to drink alcohol and go sugar free because the alcohol will act in a similar capacity to how sugar is processed. Alcohol is made from fermenting sugars after all.
For me, once I made it past week 3, everything gets so much easier from there. I hope someone found this helpful or had clarified any questions that one may have had.

2024.05.21 06:05 imrany Rapokki Ramen Review - very sweet

Rapokki Ramen Review - very sweet
Saw the post this week about favorite Costco ramen and went to my local Costco in Sandy, UT to get the Shin brand since that seemed to be the overall favorite. I was disappointed to see they didn’t have shin so I looked for an alternative. This Rapokki brand had a nice red color so I thought it would by spicy so I went with it. It wasn’t spicy at all, it was barely even salty/savory. It actually had a very sweet taste to it. I guess this product is a Korean street food and maybe if you’re familiar with the flavor profile and it’s what you’re looking for go for it. But if you’re picking it expecting a nice savory ramen, this definitely is not that.

2024.05.21 05:21 swschultz Ostomy bag fit-up and skin issues

I posted the beginning of this information in someone else’s recent Hollister vs. Coloplast post but thought the info might be helpful here as well:
I seem to have an allergic reaction to both Hollister and Coloplast bags. I’m a couple of months into my Ostomy and I still don’t have a go-to solution that works consistently. With either brand I need to use a convex bag.
One thing that I’m just recently giving a shot is the 4” X 4” Coloplast Brava Stoma Skin Protection pads. I’ve relayed my skin issues to my Ostomy nurse but surprised that she hasn’t suggested their use. I’m still not positive but it seems like I have much less skin irritation using these pads. Supposedly these pads eliminate the need for barrier rings. You cut a hole in them just like you might do with your bag, place it around your stoma, then put your bag in place. Also note that they have great reviews on Amazon
With that having been said and related to this, I also can’t seem to get a good fit-up around my stoma. I’ve tried the crusting technique, barrier rings, and the pads mentioned above in all possible combinations. Part of the problem is that my stoma started out round and now it looks to be an irregular oblong shape. This makes it extremely difficult to cut a properly sized and shaped hole in either the bag or the 4X4 pad. It’s also extremely difficult to use of the paper sizing charts in an accurate manner with the stoma being this shape. If anyone has suggestions on getting the holes correctly sized I appreciate the info.
A couple of things that I haven’t tried yet is using a barrier ring and forming it into almost of a turtleneck shape coming up around the base/neck of my stoma. I’ve also thought about shaping a barrier ring into a worm-like noodle and forming this around the stoma. Has anyone tried such an approach? It seems like in doing so that I wouldn’t necessarily have to get the exact size/shape cut into my bag for it to provide a good seal. Any and all additional input is greatly appreciated.

2024.05.21 02:41 serene_queen_777 What is the best coffee being sold at Costco right now?

I’ve seen a lot of dissent about Costco’s coffee offerings. I have tried three different types and thought one was adequate (orange bag?), but didn’t like Kirkland brand one I tried at all. Out of all the brands they stock, what is the favorite?

2024.05.20 23:23 DuffyTraveler Do you know of a vending machine that cooks ramen or soba on the spot?

Hey everyone. Years ago, my family saw an NHK feature where they ate a hot noodle dish from a vending machine. Well, now that's one of their requests for our upcoming trip - eating hot noodles from a vending machine.
We're not picky; ramen, soba, or something else is fine. We'd like a vending machine that cooks the dish itself, right there. Not something that gives frozen ramen or an order-at-a-machine restaurant.
Do you know of anything like that, ideally near common tourist areas in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka or Nagoya? I've seen this place, but it's pretty far out there.
Anyway, kind of funny request but I appreciate any ideas. Thank you!

Instant Ramen from History
Hello, Reddit.
I am searching for a specific instant Ramen I had a number of years ago (circa 2018) in Germany (Berlin). I got it from a random corner store.
Specifically if I recall it was a sesame/chicken flavour and was from a packet, not a cup. It looked a little like the attached photo when prepared as per packet instructions.
Why am I on a hunt, you ask? I loved it. For some background, Instant Ramen is one of my very favourite things to eat, and this was the very best I’ve ever had.
Flavour is mentioned above, and the texture was similar to the noodle from the ‘soba’ branded cup noodle which I believe are Nissin. I know with certainty that it’s not them, however. I’ll also add that the noodle was distinctly a brownish colour versus the usual yellow/cream.
Help please?
