From a spiritual perspective, number 47 is a combination of the energies and attributes of number 4 and number 7. The End THE WIDELY ACCEPTED STORY is that Courtney ‘Jamal’ Dewar committed suicide by jumping off the Cinematic Music Building in Manhattan on 23.12.12 – which equals 47, the rapper’s favourite number. None of the city’s newspapers reported his death. As a result of inconsistent stories and a lack of police intelligence, confusion surrounds the heart-breaking event for the Dewar family. Today I will be briefly explaining the practice of Gematria. Gematria comes from ancient Jewish mysticism. It is the practice of combining the letter with the number, with the word. It is said this is how God created the world.
How does it work? Gematria has 4 major ciphers. The first two are easy as ABC, literally. For example A=1 B=2 C=3. And so on. The code can also be read backward from Z to A. In recent years, the Giro’s third week has always played an ominous role, looming over the first two thirds of the race as a gargantuan main course after two weeks of appetizers. This has often resulted in GC contenders racing quite conservatively until the last fireworks- a strategy that has proven effective in both 2022 and 2023 when the eventual race winner only took the GC lead on the very last climb of the race. In 2024, this won’t be the case as much: the third week is hard, it includes plenty of Alpine climbs, but it’s not going to be as pivotal as it was in recent years.
Stage 16, for example, looks challenging but not impossible. The racing will resume from where we left off yesterday: the start is in Livigno, and as the very first thing the riders will climb to Passo di Eira- that is, the last climb of stage 15 without the steep bits at the end. Another brief climb will follow, and then the riders will face a long, familiar descent: it’s the Passo del Foscagno, which they undertook in the opposite direction yesterday.
Not long after the bottom of the descent, the road will start to rise again towards the Giogo di S. Maria, better known by its German name: Umbrailpass. For a long while, it’s the exact same road as the iconic Passo dello Stelvio, but shortly before the summit the riders will switch to a secondary road towards the Swiss border. It’s not as tall as the Stelvio, but it’s still the tallest point in the race and it’s thus designated as Cima Coppi. Why have such a challenging climb so early in the stage? Once again, it’s pretty much the only way to get where the race needs to go, the only alternative being the Stelvio itself… which was the original plan, but the stage had to be re-routed because of heavy snowfalls.
Anyways, the descent through Switzerland- the only abroad part of this Giro- will quickly bring the peloton back to Italy- more specifically South Tyrol, the country’s German-speaking area. The riders will slowly descend until provincial capital Bolzano, where the first intermediate sprint of the day is located. From there, the riders will briefly follow the Isarco (Eisack) river northwards before getting back into the mountains. First off comes cat 1 Passo Pinei (Panidersattel), a 20+ kms long climb, rather irregular but never too hard: the first part and the last part are the hardest, while there is a plateau-ish section in the middle. The riders will find two intermediate sprints along the way- the Intergiro one in Fiè allo Sciliar and a regular one in Siusi allo Sciliar.
The brief descent after the KOM will bring the peloton in Val Gardena (Gröden), a gorgeous valley at the bottom of the Dolomites and a popular tourist destination, both in the winter and the summer. Here, you will notice signs having three different languages: other than Italian and German, Ladin- a neolatin language akin to Romansh- is also used in this area. Right after the Pinei descent, the road will begin to rise again for the last 5 kms, leading to the Monte Pana ski station. The early part of the climb takes place on a highway and is thus quite mellow but the last 2 kms will be very hard, as the peloton will switch to a secondary road with double-digit average gradients. The finish doubles as a cat 2 KOM.
With all this in mind, here are our predictions for tomorrow's stage:

Rider discussion

Tomorrow looks like a good stage for the breakaway. The early part of the course looks like good terrain for a move to go clear, and a big breakaway shouldn't spend too many energies in the slightly downhill core of the stage; last but not least, Passo Pinei is long but manageable, so a move with strong climbers should get to the last climb with no hassle. Will the peloton will work hard to chase? Depends who's in the break of course but we'll guess most GC guys won't want to spend too many energies considering there's a very tough stage on the following day.
We have plenty of strong climbers who could give it a go and should not be a threat to the GC top 5, we've listed some names above among the riders who have impressed positively in the mountains so far.
Should it come down to the GC group, it goes without saying that the top pick is race leader Tadej Pogačar, who has been unbeatable so far. Romain Bardet and Daniel Felipe Martínez have been looking good in the second week and should enjoy the short, punchy finale; on paper, Geraint Thomas would be better suited to a longer but more regular climb, but he was good in Livigno on Sunday so we're definitely not counting him out.

• When filling out forms that ask you to list your allergies, how do you address that technically anything can give us an allergy-type reaction?

Background:
My new cardiologist (the first one just brushed me off, so I sought a second opinion and he took over my case) believes I have Mast Cell Dysfunction. I first saw him in December 2023. So this is fairly new to me. He's got me on two different kinds of antihistamines and I've noticed a difference in my every day experience (like not having diarrhea every other day).
Ever since I was little, I've thrown up when given anything with cherry-flavoring. I used to be able to eat maybe 3-4 cherries without such a reaction, but they'd give me an upset stomach. It's gotten worse as I've gotten older.
Then chocolate started triggering hives but only some of the time. The rash would primarily be on my abdomen/body. Then it started showing up on my face. Should I give up chocolate? Probably, but I live in Michigan. Winters get cold. And it's impossible to predict when I'll get a reaction and when I won't. When the hives started appearing on my face, my primary sent me to an allergist. They did the basic scratch test for common grasses, trees, etc. Plus Chocolate, cherry, cats, and dogs, as well as the insect venom blood test (I get hives when stung by wasps). Of the latter, turns out I'm only actually allergic to cats. Not chocolate, cherries, dogs, or insect stings.
Never mind the random hives that seemingly come out of nowhere.
Because we know that not-fun-things happen when I have chocolate or cherry-flavoring, I have been putting those in the Allergy Section of any medical forms. I have mentioned the insect sting reaction to doctors before but they never put that one in my chart. I am working on filling Appointment Check-In Forms, and for some reason this time I got to thinking that maybe there is a way to put reference to the Mast Cell Dysfunction in the Allergy Section. To let people know that, although I may not technically be allergic to things, I could have an allergic reaction to something I never had a reaction to before.
Is that something y'all do?

Back in February I hurt my hamstring/sciatic nerve running a 200. I was dealing with an ankle injury on the same side all indoor season but it was the week before my conference meet so I felt I had needed to run. Because my ankle was hurting my stride pattern was off and when on the curve I fully extended my knee (left leg) which I ended up feeling what I can only describe as a shotgun blast to my hamstring, upper-middle semimembrinosis to be more specific. I didn’t have traditional pain that you’d have with a hamstring strain but more like nerve pain, in the initial area, up in my hip/glute med area and sometimes in my lateral lower leg. I don’t have any pain problems anymore but my times have plummeted. I’m more of a 2/4 guy but I was running the 100 during my outdoor season to get my speed up and I was running consistent 11.3s. For context I’ve ran 10.59 and in the fall before my initial ankle injury I was running numbers that predicted something more around 10.2-10.3. I did stop lifting in the winter and when I started again about a month ago my weight room m numbers plummeted aswell, they’ve got up much closer to what they were before but my speed doesn’t seem to be progressing much. My semimembrinosis also seems to be about half the size as my non injured side. Has anyone seen or experienced anything like this? If so, how did they get back to where they were before, if at all? I have high aspirations for track and have been dealing with some mental stuff ever since this happened. Just want to get back to where I was as soon as possible.

Hello again! After reading the back and prologue of Bonehunters we come now to right and fair predictions part of reading a Malazan book.
I actually intended to get the predictions out yesterday, but when I sat down to read the summary on the back, I got to 'The Seven Cities...' and put it back down again.
Now it's not that I mind the Seven Cities. I actually quite like it. But it's also way more outwardly brutal and grounded than Genabackis and Leduria(?). In Seven Cities they are stringing people up on spears and hanging children out to dry. Meanwhile, in Genabackis we have the Tenescowri, which granted is very brutal, but countermanded by a furry, Thor, a sleight of hand magician, a blabbermouth, DID, a guy that 'while you were out reading books and dilly-dallying I was studying the edge, flying my space-rock, and brooding,' the physical human-embodiment of excrement, and of course, who could forget the entire island of people who 'are studying the blade, *tips their strange little masks* "m'lady", and of course the dude disguised as another dude.
Side-note: The Glossary is so much more extensive than the previous books.

• Hopefully, we will get someone actually learning about Warrens and how to use them, expanding on Seren's impromptu lessons in Mockra from the last book. (Especially this, since there was mention of mechanics in the Deck of Dragons in the Acknowledgements.
  • On that note, Crokus/Cutter will discover an affinity for Denul.
• Kalam Mekhar's weird ability to fully control his body will be used again.
• Spite, who awoke the vampire, can create/cause otataral, yet she mentioned Starvald Demelain. There was the otataral dragon in House of Chains as well.
  • Heboric is setting out on his journey back to the otataral statue. More explanations abound.
• Tayschrenn, despite being named in the prologue and representing a significant portion of the Malazan Empire's mage force, isn't in the Dramatis Personae. Sus
• Kallor (BOO!) is promised a throne in MoI, but seems to have become the Reaver in the Glossary.
• Speaking of glossary, Kurald Thyrlan, the Elder Warren of Light, should be home to the Children of Light, the Liosan. But the glossary also mentions Kurald Liosan without any descriptors added. Related to our bronzed-up, half-god, boat-men?
• 'Death shall discovers it's own visage.' or something like that, which will give birth to something new. Considering the birth of the Hold of Death from the Midnight Tides. At first, I thought it would just become an extension of the High-house, but perhaps not.
  • D'rek, the Autumn Worm, is also mentioned in the beginning of this book. Considering Gedderone is the Lady of Spring and Rebirth. There's definitely potential for some conflict between Hood and the Worm.
• The summary claim the first blood among god will be/has been spilled. Fener is the obvious choice here. Claimed to be vulnerable and exposed multiple times.
• Nejim, the T'rolbarahl was buried much like we see many of the Forkrul Assail. He also has a history with the Deragoth. Maybe we'll see them team up with Karsa, considering his current record against the Hounds of Darkness.
• A sorceror used to control the Hounds of Darkness, suggesting either that it can be done again, or that such a person doesn't simply go away.
• Dessembrae the Lord of Tears' name closely resembles that of Dessimbelackis, the Emperor of the First Empire (human, I think). Though the references are vague and unclear, I believe he was not only a D'ivers but the Derogath, the Hounds of Darkness. (I just checked the text again. Onrack infers it pretty heavily).
  • Not sure what I think the connection is. It's not outright stated that the 'Beast Ritual' was performed on the Emperor.
  • I think the seven Troubadours who made Nejim were actually the ones transformed into the Derogath and Dessimbelackis ascended and took a new name.
• The new Beast Hold, lead by the Wolves of Winter, will become an ice warren for the Imass residing within (sort of like the Tiste for their respective warrens).
  • Ice has pretty clear symbology in the books as stasis and status quo. Where as the Tellann Warren represents fire and time (Progress).
  • I am staking claim that these new Imass will/kind of already has given up their hunt for the Jaghut. In a warren surrounded by the stasis and history, they will make peace with their past.
• This will not be a nice book for Icarium.

These predictions got a lot more concrete than I had anticipated and actually feel really good about the results. Then again, I felt similarly last time and I missed the mark slightly.

This starts with something well-known but leads to a question about a possible twist on it after that...
Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park is known for the fact that, a few days per year in February, the sun sets at the right angle to illuminate the water of the waterfall but not the surrounding rocks, making it look as if the water were glowing yellow/orange/red for several minutes. How dramatic the "firefall" looks depends on how much water there is, which is why I only mentioned it happening in February. The angle is also right for a few days in October, but it's usually dry then. (And even in February you're at the mercy of how wet the winter has been.)
It's easy to find examples & discussion of photography of the firefall, but no so much for the equivalent when a full or close-enough-to-full moon sets at the same angle (silverfall? moonfall?). I suppose that's partially because dimmer light makes it harder to see or at least harder to photograph, but I think it's mostly because predicting when the moon will set there while close enough to full is harder. Is there anybody here who can do that?

Paris in the Twentieth century is a novel written by Jules Verne and published in...the 1990s.
Now if you've heard about the book, it's probably for 1 of 2 reasons. Either you've heard about its late discovery by his great grandchildren, or for its wonderous predictions about future technology which were really close to the truth.
However, that is often where the analysis ends. (In my experience at least, you might have had a different one obviously).
The book also delves into social questions as well. Verne wrote the book with a future warning, and his publisher prevented the publication of the book specifically because it was too dark and dystopia compared to Verne's previous novels.
In the book, a young prodigy graduates at the age of 16 with a degree in literature. However, as he explores the titular Paris, he finds that his skills are unwelcome and the arts forgotten in exchange for undying efficiency and technological development. He only manages to barely get a banking job that allows him to live and pursue art. Love even has its luster stolen, as people are so worked to the bone that everyone, even women, become cynical and neurotic.
The book is treated, rightly, as a dystopia. However...it really is a beautiful world when you look in from the outside. Without venturing through the struggles of Michel Dufrénoy and his friends and family, all you can see are the technological marvels of the world.
Elevators, planes, high-speed rail. Even the end of war, since war is now fought by chemists and machinists and technology has made war too costly for great powers to fight eachother as they had decades previously.
Doesnt this all sound familiar? Everytime I hear someone say something like "your an idiot for getting a liberal arts/philosophy/etc. Degree" I think back to this story. And everytime I hear people complain about the lack of "traditional women" I think back to this story. (Funnily enough, both of these are said by the same type of person, despite their cause being the same. Meaning you cannot have one without the other.)
And everytime I hear about the great peace we live in today, I think back to that story, and it's ending.

Those are the things I think about when Paris in the Twentieth century is mentioned. Those are the things I think about when I'm told to he grateful for the technological times we live in. And I think those should be the things thought about. Those are the principles contradictions of the society we live in. And if today we praise Verne for predicting the elevator and jet turbine aircraft, then I think he should also be praised for his predictions about society and culture.

I have something like 1 hectare of yard, with 7000m2 mainly grass and other part trees. I just spent 4 hours cutting the grass, and I predict it will need cutting again after 1 week. Robot grass cutter or the grass cutter which you drive around is not a good option, because the yard is not flat and has stones here and there. The self moving grass cutter which you push just takes so long time...
But I saw that young sheep cost about 140 eueach. The yard has different type of grass, it's not a monoculture, so probably sheep would get good nutrients. And then when winter comes, the sheep would go to freezer. The meat would/may compensate the initial investment cost and I would get free grass cutting labour.
Has anyone tried this and will it work? For about 1 hectare of land, would 4 sheep be enough, so that they maintain good grass growth?
Edit: I am familiar with the regulations regarding getting, maintaining, and slaughtering sheep. This is not a problem. I prefer to get own sheep since I have space for them in the freezer for when winter comes. Question remains, will they be eating the grass sufficiently so that I don't need to get sheep and cut the grass also? And how many would be needed?

Book Two: The Academy- Part 8
Getting to their next class was much less chaotic and dangerous, as this time Buck and company made sure to take the human tunnels. Halfway there, he heard Butterfly begin to pipe up excitedly. “Next class we get to learn how to speak Dragon!”
Buck remembered that was the next class on the schedule. He also remembered very well who was going to be teaching it.
“Isn’t Wren from your hometown?” Sala asked Butterfly.
Butterfly apparently did not remember, but soared when he was reminded. “Yeah! Wren is from Talisman like me! She got banished by the Dragonmancers but she came back and kicked them all out!”
“The so-called legend goes…” Holly commented, “That the Dragonmancers were trying to get rid of Wren by feeding her to a dragon. Instead, she found a baby dragon and raised him. That dragon is Sky, our other teacher in this class.”
“So we’re really being taught by the Savior of Humanity?” Badger breathed, “There’s so many things I want to ask her! Like how she raised Sky, and what Pantala was like, and what the dragons’ faces looked like when she talked to them, and—”
“Didn’t Sunny say that Wren doesn’t like talking about saving humanity?” Patience said.
“She said Wren doesn’t like being treated like a savior,” Holly corrected, “And I don’t blame her. All she did was open her mouth to a dragon, the dragons did the rest really. Now we all think she’s some kind of goddess.”
The class was silent afterwards. The classroom Wren and Sky taught in was apparently on the other side of the school from the classroom they came from. It took some time, but eventually they reached the room. To Buck’s surprise, this classroom appeared to be just for humans. While it was big enough that a dragon could fit in it, there were no seats for them.
But that was not what the other students noticed. What, or whom they saw was at the front of the room. A young woman or teenage girl, standing at the feet of a decidedly small-ish dragon with a scale color Buck had never seen before, more like a salmon or a pale shade of orange. Before he could think about the dragon any further, he spoke.
“Hello, humans! Please be seated. This is going to be such a fun class!”
Buck did a double-take towards the dragon. He spoke in Human almost as if he were human himself. All the other dragons were unwieldy speaking in his language, constantly trying to avoid slipping over their tongues. Sky was such a natural that Buck had to make sure it somehow was not Wren’s mouth that was moving.
Buck seated himself, again next to Bailey. He watched Wren’s eyes, and saw a sort of confidence that came from having done this before. Well, she probably did already teach most of the dragons here how to speak Human.
Wren began to speak to Sky, alternating seamlessly between Human and Dragon, meaning Buck could only catch snippets of their conversation. “Humans… these kids… it’ll be easy… what about it?”
Finally, Wren addressed the class for the first time, giving a loud roar that shocked Buck again. How could a human throat make such a loud noise as that!?
“That, in Dragon, was a formal greeting,” Wren clarified to the class. “Welcome to your first day learning to speak Dragon. As you probably already know, I’m Wren, and this big guy here is Sky. We go back a long way, and you may have heard about me and him from the countless stories that have been made up about us. Allow me to hit you with the truth. Me and Sky have not, to date, beat up any dragons who were assaulting human villages, we have not personally defeated the Othermind, and we have not rescued screaming babies out of the mouths of SkyWings or SandWings.” The class started with horror upon hearing the last part of the speech.
Uhh, Buck thought, Did dragons really ever eat human infants? That’d be low, even for them.
“That last one I made up to show just how ridiculous the whole thing is. Dragons have not and never will be eating babies.” The class sighed with relief. “Going on, I have, however, killed a dragon that was going to assault the Indestructible City, but only because he had kidnapped Sky. This is all I will say about my past in this class. Understood?”
The students nodded. “Now then, I would like you to repeat after me.” She went back to speaking Dragon. “Roar growl human roar snarl snarl.”
Buck repeated her to the best of his ability, but it was like trying to fit a boulder through his throat, he had never tried to get his voice to make such low noises.
When the class managed somehow to repeat her sentence to a satisfactory degree, she translated. “That sentence means ‘I am a human, I am not food.’ While a dragon who still thinks humans are worth eating would likely not listen to a human asserting their rights, it is still an important sentence to know.”
Wren walked to the blackboard behind her and began writing down a bunch of the symbols in Dragon writing. “This is that same sentence, written out. When I’m done teaching you, you will be able to talk and interact with dragons, objectively the best thing ever. While many dragons are learning to speak Human, this will allow you to talk with not just some dragons, but all dragons.”
Sky then spoke. “This may be hard for a lot of you at first. Making dragon sounds with your little human voices can be really painful when you’re not used to it. That’s why we have a large bowl of water off to the right of the desks. If your throat begins to feel sore, drink some water.”
Buck appreciated knowing they cared about their voices, especially since his throat was beginning to become irritated just from saying one sentence in Dragon. Wren began to teach the humans various words in Dragon. As Buck repeated the words, his throat did indeed begin to burn, but the water the classroom supplied was cool and fresh and helped greatly with soothing his voice. Finally, after what felt like many hours of speaking various phrases in Dragon like “The moons shine brightly tonight” and “Have you seen my friends?” the gong rang.
“Good work, class!” Sky said encouragingly, “We’ll pick up where we left off tomorrow!”
Buck heard Sala yell “Bye, Sky!” in Dragon as he stood, and he saw Sky’s face light up hearing that. Buck turned and left the room, going back into the tunnel.
“That was a fun class,” Patience said as he caught up with Buck and Bailey.
“Ugh, no.” Holly interjected, “My throat really hurts from all the roaring.”
“Didn’t the water help?” Bailey asked her.
“No. It was like water rushing over molten rock, I think I need to see the nurse.”
“Go do that if you need to.”
“No I don’t think I will.”
Bailey shrugged. “Suit yourself.”
Buck pulled his class schedule out of his pocket and looked at it.
12 Noon: Lunch (Dining Hall)
Buck’s stomach grumbled just then, and he realized how long it had been since he had last eaten. He grasped his upper abdomen and looked over to Bailey. “Hey, lunch is next.”
Bailey turned to look at her brother. “Yep! Wonder what they’ll have for us.”
When they reached the dining hall, the dragons had already been seated. He saw Ahi down below perk up as Buck and the others entered. Buck decided to take a better look at the rest of the dining hall, approaching the railing. Just as he predicted, Ahi jumped to her feet and rushed up to the human platform. She gave an excited whine but then, to Buck’s astonishment, spoke in heavily broken, accented Human.
“Hi! Buck! Very good day today!”
“Oh, uh, hi Ahi!” Buck wondered how she suddenly gained the ability to speak his language, but the dragonet was beside herself with glee, apparently knowing she could talk directly to humans was the highlight of her day, enough that she was completely ignoring the platter of fish arriving at her table.
“Daffodil giving me special lessons! I speak like you now!”
Her every word was shouted, which was a bit much for Buck. Nevertheless, he responded: “That’s good, Ahi.” Out of the corner of his hearing Buck could hear a muted scoff come from another one of the dragon tables. He looked over and saw the MudWing from earlier, glaring in Buck and Ahi’s direction. He deliberately ignored him and looked back at Ahi, who was staring at him with sparkling eyes.
“How your shoulder? When you take off that…” She clearly could not find her next word.
“Sling?” Buck finished for her.
“Sling!” She shouted back.
“I don’t know. I think it’s healing pretty well though.”
“That’s great!” Ahi seemed to finally notice her food waiting for her. “I go eat now!”
“Bye, Ahi!” Buck waved at her before turning and finding that his own food was waiting. It seemed to be a huge feast of smoked fish fillets and a salad made up of lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes. Buck sat between Patience and Bailey, who seemed to have left a seat open for him, and began to pile fish and salad onto a waiting plate in front of him.
“Buck,” Bailey told him between mouthfuls, “You and Ahi look like you’re getting along really well.”
Buck paled, then blushed when he realized what she meant. “Uh, it’s not like I haven’t gotten over what happened years ago… or anything. I just know she’s not going to eat me! She’s way too small to even try!”
“That’s a start,” Patience added. “The Buck I met back at the Lodge, he would have not even bothered to go talk to her.”
“I just, can’t get it out of my head, that we might be in danger. It’s like what we heard on the way to Winter’s class, the Scourge is still around here. What if she gets into the school?”
Patience paled. “Hold on, the Scourge is still near the school?”
Just then, a wave of heat suddenly washed over the students, and Buck pivoted his head over into the dragon section to see something that made his heart jump down into his stomach. It was a SkyWing, but in a deep, terrifying red, and her whole body was shimmering with heat. “What is that?” Buck whispered fearfully to Patience.
The dragon seemed to be aware of its heat, and was sliding between tables, its wings tightly folded to its body. Even the dragons seemed to be wary of it, shifting in their seats as the superheated dragon passed by.
“Oh, that’s Peril,” Holly finally explained, leaning over towards Buck, “She’s the security here at JMA.”
Buck swallowed. “Why do I feel like I’m imperiled just by her being here? Is a dragon who could burn me to ash just by being near me somehow supposed to make me feel safe?”
“The point is,” Badger explained, “If any dragon tries to hurt a human here, they’re going to deal with her, and her entire squad of guards. She’s been constantly patrolling the school and the skies around it to look for signs of the Scourge. So yeah, you should feel safe around her.”
Buck shook his head. “As long as I keep my distance anyway.”
Buck decided to ignore Peril and continue eating. He soon had his fill, and he looked back to see Peril in the far corner of the dining hall, eating all alone. The other dragons seem to be scared of her too… I admit, that’s gotta suck, being that lonely.
Though that thought was banished when he saw Clay approach her, and somehow, wrapped a wing supportively around her body before sitting down and eating with her. Somehow he’s not affected by that much heat.
Buck noticed that Bailey and Patience had finished eating, so the three of them stood. “What’s next?” Patience asked.
Buck took out his class schedule and looked it over. “Looks like we have free time for the next hour or so.”
“Let’s go to the library!” Bailey said, “I want to read some more scrolls about the Scorching if they have them.”
“Can I come with you?” Badger asked, approaching them. “I want to read some of those scrolls too.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Patience concluded, “Let’s head over there!”
The library was well lit with sunlight from outside at this time of day, though Buck realized he had not seen the sun ever since he had entered the Academy. He felt cold all of a sudden, realizing he was stuck indoors, possibly for the rest of the school year. Couldn’t they have built, like, a big porch for us to get some outdoors time?
Bailey, Badger and Patience meanwhile were talking with Starflight. “I’m afraid,” the NightWing said, “We don’t have any more scrolls on the Scorching that are up to date with current knowledge. The ones we have… would be highly antagonistic of humankind, probably very offensive to you.”
“Can we read one anyway?” Badger asked him, “History is important to read about regardless of whether it’s offensive.”
“Well, I suppose. Let me go get the one I used to study.” Starflight walked over to the wall of scrolls and pulled one off, then sat on a large cushion, beckoning the children to join him. Buck went over to join him.
“This is the Legend of the Scorching. I contributed my studies of it to the guidebook we wrote after we started Jade Mountain Academy. After finding out who humanity really is… reading it again made me feel a little sick. If at any point you want me to stop, just tell me.”
The kids nodded, and Starflight began to read.
Dragons of the day and age were solitary creatures.
“So you guys didn’t always have a civilization?” Patience asked Starflight, who shook his head.
“It’s how humans managed to survive until the Scorching. I believe you humans call it ‘safety in numbers.’ Forming into communities provides an incredible amount of protection.”
“Probably also the reason why whatever civilization humans could scrounge back from the dead never got any bigger than it is now,” Buck commented solemnly, “Since dragon civilization was now in the way.”
Starflight continued. The scavengers, however, were not content… They killed the dragons’ prey and choked the skies with smoke.
“Smoke?” Bailey said, “What use would we have for that much smoke?”
Badger tilted his head, wondering. “Maybe humans had really big fireplaces back then?”
“We may never know why humans had such an obsession with clogging the air with smog,” Starflight said, “Anyway, let me continue.”
No one knows why a scavenger would steal a dragon egg…
“Well we do know now,” Buck sighed, “But it wasn’t exactly a good reason.”
But we know he stole it from the wrong dragon… And so she found the other dragons… They became their talons and her claws and her ferocious teeth.
“The humans, most of them, probably weren’t aware of Cottonmouth’s scheme,” Patience said, “To them, the dragons would have washed over them unprovoked.”
“And the dragons of the Scorching were also unaware of that,” Starflight continued glumly, “They lumped all of humankind together in their anger.”
When the Scorching was complete, the scavengers who survived scattered into hidey-holes across the world. Powerless, insignificant, no more than prey, as they should have been all along.
“There’s the part that made me sick,” Starflight sighed, “They really didn’t know back then, and even if they did, they probably wouldn’t have cared.”
“But you do now,” Badger said, placing a soft hand against Starflight’s talon, “And that counts for something!”
“It’s just… Knowing what we do now about humans is a heavy burden for many dragons. When humans call us ‘man-eaters’ or ‘monsters,’ it cuts deep, because so many of us felt so stupid to not see what we were doing. And the fact that some humans do forgive us, I think that proves to me, that humans are much stronger than dragons. To be able to spend over five-thousand years hiding from our claws and teeth, to have lost everything to us, and still being able to come to us and understand us. I can’t imagine being that strong.”
Buck felt this statement deep within him, and he felt he had to say something in response. “When I knew… knew that my parents were gone, I felt like I lost my whole world. I was a lot younger back then. My parents were everything to me.” a tear formed on Buck’s eyelids. “And yeah, I hated dragons because of it. I wanted to kill them all, or at least any of the dragons who came too close to Vale. And when Winter came to Vale, I thought it was going to happen all over again. That I was about to lose Bailey, and my new father. But then, Winter spoke. And my whole world was shattered again. Because now I couldn’t really call them monsters. It took me a while to get used to that.”
Bailey wrapped an arm around Buck’s shoulder, prompting a light sob from the boy. “Buck, it’s like Starflight said. You showed so much strength in coming out here and listening to what the dragons had to say. Dad knew, of course, that coming here would help you. He’s a really smart man. So I hope you’ve learned from this. The dragons are here to help now. You just have to let them into your heart.”
Buck wiped a tear falling from his eye. “Thanks, guys.”
“Hey, how’s about we head back to our dorm and relax,” Patience let out a big stretch, “We’ve had a pretty long day so far.”
Buck chuckled. “I haven’t even picked a bed yet, since I spent last night in the infirmary. Yeah, let’s head over there.”
“It was a pleasure speaking with you kids,” Starflight said, “Hearing your opinions on everything has lifted a heavy weight off my shoulders.”
“No problem, Starflight,” Bailey complimented, “Now, let’s head back upstairs!”
The humans scurried out of the library to head back to their dorm, and Starflight rested his head on the open scroll, letting out a big, deep sigh. “If only they knew back then… How wonderful they are.”

Stage breakdown

Exactly two weeks after the Oropa uphill finish, we’ll be back in the Alps, ready to tackle what most pundits seem to consider the race’s queen stage. Indeed, the riders will need to tackle five KOMs, including one of the Giro’s most iconic climbs, and for the first time so far they will venture above 2000 m above the sea level.
The stage begins on the shores of Lake Garda, and the course will quickly venture into the mountains in the direction of another famous- and gorgeous- body of water: Lake Iseo. During this first part of the stage, the riders will tackle two KOMs; cat 3 Lodrino and cat 2 Colle San Zeno. The latter is a brand new, never-before-used climb; it’s near 15 kms long with a 6.5 % average gradient, but that might not be the worst part of it all as the subsequent descent is described as long and technical.
Said descent will bring the peloton near the northernmost point of Lake Iseo; from there, they will have some 50 kms to take a deep breath as they will follow the Oglio river upstream, up the Valcamonica. Not long after the intermediate sprint in Malonno, the riders will reach one of the Giro’s best known climbs: the Mortirolo. Compared to other Alpine climbs such as the Stelvio or the Pordoi, which carry a majestic feel and a lot of history, the Mortirolo is a much more modest climb, a narrow road which had never been visited by the Giro before 1990. As soon as it was used, however, it gained instant fame and it became a staple when the corsa rosa visits this area- it’s been featured 15 times since! We will be approaching this climb from the southern side: it’s the easier way up but at the same time this means the riders will need to face another tough descent.
In the last part of the stage, the riders will travel northwards along another major Alpine valley- the Valtellina. Again, they will be going upstream so the road will be constantly rising. After two intermediate sprints in quick succession- a regular one in Le Motte and the Intergiro one in Val di Dentro- the road will once again rise towards another cat 1 climb, the Passo del Foscagno- a long but regular climb along a highway. The climb will summit above Livigno, a small mountain resort near the Swiss border… as well as a Giro sponsor and a host of some skiing events at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. The stage will end with another brief climb: at first, they will reach the Passo di Eira, another pass just above Livigno, but then they will keep climbing up a (paved) road which follows the Mottolino ski slope. The last 2 kms will be very challenging as they have irregular gradients and some parts will get very steep.
With all this in mind, here are our predictions for tomorrow's stage:

"say the line, /peloton mods!"
Once again, we believe Tadej Pogačar to be the main favourite for tomorrow. He's been clearly the best climber in the race so far, and the short punchy finale seems perfect for him. He does not have the strongest team to support him in the mountains, but so far he has not shown any sign of weakness, and we believe that the team which could most easily put together a concerted effort to stop him- INEOS- might wait for a stage that better suits their captain.
Romain Bardet, Daniel Felipe Martínez and Ben O'Connor have been the Slovenian's closest rivals, and they've all been quite consistent as of late. Bardet is perhaps a bit below the other two, but should he get to the finish with them, he should enjoy the final ramps. Antonio Tiberi has been consistently good too.
Why did we give Geraint Thomas just one star? The Welshman has been consistently good throughout this Giro, and we believe he should have no trouble getting to Livigno alongside his rivals for 2nd place. However, we believe that the final climb does not suit his riding style much, so he might not be the favourite to snatch a win there.
Of course we might see a breakaway win tomorrow as well. We have two reservations however: the finale is very hard, so it will need to be a very strong move going clear; at the same time, there aren't a lot of strong climbers in the race and the ones that are there will be either closely marked, as the GC behind Pogi is still relatively close together, or might need to be on domestique duties. Of course, if the peloton takes it easy tomorrow, the break might stand a bigger chance... but with a rest day on Monday and a very hectic Giro so far, we feel that will be a bit unlikely.

Hie ladies
So like many of you here I've been hopscotching from one drug/treatment to the next. I think it's been 2 weeks since my mirena insertion. I have questions and I'd like a space to just cry.
The insertion was nothing but horrible the pain was genuinely up there and my gynecologist couldn't fit it in the first time it was a whole thing until she got it in place. The snap when the arms extended was....Lord thinking about it makes me want to cry. She made sure the iud was in place and was concerned about my pain but the procedure had already started. On the day of insertion I could hardly sit or sleep the cramps were a nightmare this lasted the whole weekend. I have school and we are coming close to winter this side so that's a nightmare. The cramps to this day are still there plus obvious bleeding. Now it's the cramping plus hot flashes when I have the bad cramps they travel all the way down my legs and back. This will last maybe a min or less then I breathe for a while until the next one comes. I can't predict intensity or when they'll come it just happens. The cold does make everything worse. Again I just want to cry my moments happy or dull are haunted by this pain and I don't know what to do. I was prescribed tramadole and diazepam and I do a hot water bottle when I can.

NOW, the final nail in the coffin, the power of yuji domain is TO CALL BACK THE SOULS OF THOSE HE HAD LOST, going full circle into his motif that was established before, the fact that both time when he fought sukuna and mahito, todo was there to help him, the same todo who asked yuji why he fight
