2024.05.29 03:07 Key-Cake-9883 Help Please: Medicaid rejects Capital Loss, but Federal Marketplace deducts it and disqualifies me from APTC

I have a rolling capital loss of $3000 that will be calculated/deducted from 2024 Adjusted Gross Income.
Healthcare.gov's Income Types base income on AGI from my federal tax return (which deducts Capital Loss). Soonercare Oklahoma Medicaid base on Modified AGI (which does NOT deduct Capital Loss).
I have contacted DHS/eligibility several times to see how to calculate that number into my income level for Medicaid qualification (Schedule D), but they say it doesn't count.
However, Affordable Care Act apparently DOES calculate that into my income (???) - and whether or not I am eligible for Medicaid vs qualified for Advanced Premium Tax Credits.
I seem to be in a total lose-lose situation poverty trap where my monthly MAGI calculated income disqualifies me from Medicaid as far as Oklahoma is concerned, and annual AGI calculated income disqualifies me for Advanced Premium Tax Credit because federal says my Capital Loss qualifies my income for Medicaid, but Medicaid says no.
How do I navigate this??? How do I get health insurance?

2024.05.29 01:38 FiveSeasonsFox Social Security Questions

Hello! I have a couple questions about Social Security. I've been on SSDI since 2010 and have worked part time at the same job for 11 years. Due to the ongoing disability, I haven't been able to work much and I've stayed under income guidelines for every month but 1. I was recently sent a letter from Social Security saying that they have decided that my disability has ended and thus my SSDI benefits will be terminated. Several of my colleagues are experiencing a termination of their benefits as well. Has there been any major changes or policy decisions that may have triggered a statistically large percentage of people getting benefits denied?
An additional question: are there any lawyers in the area that you might recommend for an appeals case?
Thank you very much!

2024.05.28 23:32 Certain_Tap7745 I-864 RFE help

All time lurking here but I think it is eventually my turn to make my first post to ask for help.
I (USC) am sponsoring for my husband (married 2023) through AOS. When we submitted the I-485 package (March 2024), we also included the form I-864 done by me. My income is well above the poverty guideline. We just got a RFE for this I-864 with the text below. The last bullet point was bolded in RFE letter as well
You have submitted Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, from the petitioning sponsor, [my name]. We are unable to process the I-864 because it has one or more deficiencies. In order for us to process your application further, you must:
- Submit a complete copy of the petitioning sponsor’s Federal income tax return, including all supporting tax documents (W-2s, 1099s, Form 2555, and tax schedules) filed with the return, for the most recent tax year.
Here are the things I think we made mistakes on:
Here are what I have currently for the RFE response:
  1. A copy of the RFE letter.
  2. A newly completed I-864 with the correct most recent income (the joint income number on our 2023 tax transcript) and checked 23.b box (the optional box indicating that I have attached photocopies or transcripts of my Federal income tax returns for my second and third most recent tax years).
  3. 3 tax return transcripts: 2023, 2022, 2021.
  4. All of my W2, 1099s; and his W2 (he only has W2); and my paystubs of last 6 months.
  5. A full copy of our 2023 tax return from our accountant (8879, 1040, 8889, 8995, 1098).
Do you think I miss anything? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Meet the Leading AI Supplier for the 🇺🇸 U.S. Government
My deep dive on Booz Allen Hamilton’s AI dominance and what it means for traders
I'm sharing my research so YOU can make a better decision. I know many members prefer to be told what to buy, but this is an essay, not a BanBet. My current BanBet record is 31-20, which is so-so. But honestly, you should still learn how to trade, not how to shadow.
So why should you read this? That's something you have to decide. Read the title. Only you can decide whether it makes sense to find out more about this company, or not.
This is the only image I can post here. 🙁
❗️ TL;DR: Look here, this essay’s got more words than a politician’s promise, and it doesn't even spoon-feeds you a play. Preposterous! If you’re itching to block me, here’s your guide. Now, if the sheer volume of words is giving you the vapors, I don’t blame you. Just look at this behemoth of text. By golly!
Let’s face it: you don’t really want to be here, and you’re likely not my audience (folks who actually enjoy reading and/or appreciate knowledge). So, I’d just as soon see you off. Sure, you could go outside and indulge in memes, but I wager you’ve got a primal need to scroll down and leave a gripe about how absurd it is to expect anyone to wade through this verbosity. Well, go ahead. Vent away.
Hello. Welcome.
You should already know that in today's financial markets, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as the golden prodigy, with investors flocking like bees to honey, eagerly snapping up stocks from those trailblazing companies leading the AI revolution.
Amidst this fervor, one company stands as the top purveyor of AI services to the U.S. government. Yet, it remains unknown to the general populace.
This essay delves into why Booz Allen Hamilton has earned this position, the significant impact of its AI initiatives, and what this means for traders keen to ride the AI boom.
Interested? Keep reading, then.
⚠️ WARNING: I originally wrote this research before Booz Allen Hamilton’s fourth quarter and full-year fiscal 2024 results. Fiscal year, not a calendar year. And I did share my findings with other traders on time. If you are reading this now, that event is already in the past. However, the research is still valid, so I’m posting it here.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: In their diaphanous wisdom, Reddit/Mods have decreed that posts be limited to a single attachment, which I’ve already used. This essay is adorned with several images to enhance its appeal and, more crucially, includes numerous charts, which I am regrettably unable to include here. If you wish to peruse the full essay with all its illustrative charts, here’s the link. You can continue reading it here on WSB, but be forewarned—you’ll miss out on the visual aids that bring the data to life. The choice, dear reader, is yours.
Well now, picture this: The clock has just struck midnight, and today — Friday, May 24, 2024 — has only begun to stretch its legs. I literally just mentioned that I originally wrote this research before Booz Allen Hamilton’s fourth quarter and full-year fiscal 2024 results. Just a few hours ago, I went and bought myself a trunk full of Booz Allen Hamilton shares. And wouldn’t you know it, in just a handful of hours, that very company is set to unveil their earnings report, promising a significant move in the stock, one way or another. Again, I wrote this last week before the earnings.
I leaped into this play guided by my trader’s intuition. Now, as I burn the midnight oil, I’m digging into the logic and facts behind that decision. I figured, heck, why not pen an essay about the things I uncover along the way?
the number one provider of artificial intelligence (AI) services to the U.S. government.
A bit of history
Booz Allen Hamilton is no hip upstart. Nope. This institution was founded way back in 1914 by one Edwin G. Booz in the bustling city of Chicago, offering management consulting services before it was even fashionable.
During the 1940s, it played a pivotal role in World War II, aiding the U.S. military in improving efficiency and logistics. A decade later, the firm found a niche working with U.S. defense contracts, cementing its reputation as a trusted advisor to Uncle Sam.
So why focus on a company named like a law firm?
Well, according to GovWin from Deltek — a leading market intelligence organization — Booz Allen is the number one provider of artificial intelligence (AI) services to the U.S. government.
And unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that the market currently embraces anything related to artificial intelligence with open arms and a hearty cheer. AI is the belle of the ball.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
For perspective, exactly one year ago (May 24, 2023), NVIDIA had a market capitalization of $760.2 billion. Today, she’s valued at $2.55 trillion. Why? It’s largely due to the insatiably high demand for its AI chips, which are essential for powering advanced AI applications.
A reliable uptrend
Booz Allen Hamilton boasts a legacy spanning over a century — they consider it 110 years young — but it wasn’t until 2010 that it opened its doors to public investors, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BAH.
And if we take a gander at the company’s story as told by its yearly chart, from a humble low of $11.85 in 2012, Booz Allen has steadily climbed the ladder of success, closing today — or yesterday — at $156.83.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Historical yearly performance of Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) stock) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
That’s a 1,224% ascent, with only a single slightly red year in between, marring the record in 2021. That’s quite the tale of endurance and growth, wouldn’t you say?
Aren’t we late to the party, though?
Well, Booz Allen Hamilton’s current market capitalization stands at a tidy $20 billion. It’s nothing to scoff at, mind you, but to put things in perspective, this ranks Booz Allen as the 955th most valuable company. There’s still plenty of rungs left to climb on the ladder and ample room for growth down the road.
A significant catalyst
I’m sharing a monthly chart. Generally speaking, BAH was meandering sideways for nearly three years. That is, until a year ago, on May 26, 2023, to be precise.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Monthly performance of Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) stock. The price level illustrates a resistance/support level between August 2020 and May 2023.) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
Following that earnings report, the stock kicked up her heels and went on a 38% run over the next two months.
Also, aside from better-than-expected earnings, Booz Allen Hamilton was awarded a $919 million Engineering, Development, Integration, and Technology-based Solutions (EDITS) contract.
The contract supports the “Soldier as a System” concept, enhancing warfighter capabilities across multiple Department of Defense (DoD) agencies. The EDITS program promotes collaboration across service boundaries and aims to modernize and equip military tactical units, improving lethality, survivability, and situational awareness.
Look at the competition
Hold your horses. It’s not just one contract or one project propelling Booz Allen Hamilton skyward. The tide of AI is lifting all boats, so it’s not just one company sailing full steam ahead.
Granted, Booz Allen offers a smorgasbord of services, thus facing several competitors in various fields. However, if we narrow our focus to the AI sector, some of the most direct competitors are:
Leidos Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: LDOS)
Leidos provides AI and machine learning solutions to various U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Defense (DoD). Their AI capabilities are integrated into solutions for cybersecurity, data analysis, and operational efficiency in defense and intelligence operations.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Daily performance of Leidos Holdings (LDOS) stock. It showcases a bullish catalyst after the most recent earnings.) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
CACI International Inc (NYSE: CACI)
CACI offers AI-driven solutions to enhance national security, defense, and intelligence operations. Their AI products include advanced analytics, machine learning models, and AI applications that support mission-critical tasks for the U.S. government.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Daily performance of CACI International (CACI) stock. It showcases a bullish catalyst after the most recent earnings.) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
As you can see, when earnings roll around, these companies tend to pop and set off on a run northward, much like a hound hot on the trail. Each earnings report can become a potential catalyst, sparking a surge in investor enthusiasm and sending stock prices climbing. That’s what I’m playing. What I played.
-----
Other high-profile projects
Booz Allen Hamilton is involved in several high-profile projects that leverage AI. Some notable projects include:
Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2)
Booz Allen supports the U.S. Department of Defense’s CJADC2 initiative alongside L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX), which aims to integrate sensors, data, and weapon systems across all military domains — land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace — using AI and machine learning to enhance situational awareness and decision-making capabilities.
Project Maven
Booz Allen has been a key contractor in Project Maven, an AI program initiated by the Department of Defense, which among other things, aims to analyze video footage from drones using machine learning algorithms to identify objects and patterns, significantly improving intelligence and surveillance operations.
Project Linchpin
It is the U.S. Army’s first program of record providing an artificial intelligence operations pipeline. It is currently just a $2 million contract to support research and development, but it is anticipated to be followed by subsequent juicier contracts.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
Satellites
Booz Allen also made a strategic investment in Albedo, the first company to operate satellites in very low Earth orbit (VLEO), which enables them to offer ultra-high resolution commercial imagery from space.
Let’s take a moment to chill because it’s not all black ops and military projects.
U.S. Department of Energy
On March 12, 2024, Booz Allen Hamilton announced it was awarded a ten-year $550 million contract from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to support the advancement of high-potential, high-impact, early-stage technologies that generate, store, and use energy in entirely new ways to reduce U.S. emissions, improve energy efficiency, and increase the resiliency and reliability of the U.S. power grid.
To give you an idea, ARPA-E is tasked with identifying, shepherding, and accelerating “…the stuff that sounds crazy until it changes the world.”
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
On May 8, 2024, the company announced it was awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) to support the agency’s modernization efforts and its mission to protect human health and the environment. Booz Allen won one of four positions on the seven-year Scientific Modeling, Application, Visualization, Computational Science, Software, and Statistical Support (SMAVCS4) BPA, which has a ceiling of $431 million.
And many more
Booz Allen has nearly 200 active AI projects across defense, national security, and civil missions — including three of the largest AI contracts within the Department of Defense.
Understandably, many of them are top secret. 🤐 Late last year, an analyst noted that 2,200 BAH employees are considered ‘AI staff,’ with a staggering 80% holding government security clearances. The company’s AI capabilities are not just extensive but also deeply integrated into sensitive areas of national security.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
For those curious souls wanting to delve deeper, check out Booz Allen Hamilton’s Leading AI for the Federal Government portal.
If your stars align, you might even consider applying for a job since they’re growing and looking to fill a multitude of positions.
What analysts are saying
In a February research report, William Blair analyst Louie DiPalma mentioned that the outbreak of multiple wars and the artificial intelligence boom “have led to an inflection in government tech hiring and bookings that we feel has some serious legs.”
And also, that Booz Allen “remains the government’s go-to source to modernize the military and prepare for conflicts.” In fact, the company “has more backlog than it can handle as government spending has surged on Pacific tensions and AI prototyping.”
Finally, this week (May 21, 2024), Stifel raised its price target for BAH to $170 from $155 (from the chart above that you can't see, BAH was $156.83), keeping a buy rating since “AI, cyber and IT modernization remain in focus for the government.” Besides, there have been recently approved federal budget and supplemental spending packages.
According to data from William Blair, the analyst sentiment towards Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) is overwhelmingly positive. Not a single soul is suggesting to sell, which paints a promising picture for our tale.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image with the current rating distribution. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link. This table could be important to see.
Their aiSSEMBLE solution
Just recently — on April 30, 2024 — Booz Allen Hamilton announced the launch of aiSSEMBLE Baseline, a first-of-its-kind, open-source solution built to simplify the engineering and deployment of AI systems.
Booz Allen Hamilton boasts that aiSSEMBLE is the core tool cementing its status as the leading AI provider to the U.S. federal government. If that’s the case, it suggests that this new foundational code, complete with open-source documentation and free for use by government, academic, nonprofit, and commercial entities, could further extend Booz Allen’s lead.
It can also help them with talent acquisition. By opening the doors to aiSSEMBLE, Booz Allen is inviting a wave of innovation from all corners — government agencies, universities, nonprofits, and private firms — because some bright sparks out there will undoubtedly create remarkable innovations using aiSSEMBLE, catching Booz Allen’s eye in the process.
There’s one kink, though…
Booz Allen Hamilton’s own top brass sold shares on May 21, 2024. Those actions were filed with the SEC a day before BHA was scheduled to report earnings. There are eight Form-4s. For those not in the know, a Form-4 is a statement of changes in beneficial ownership of securities by company insiders.
But wait a second. Let’s dig deeper.
All the Form-4s state they first acquired shares through the vesting of performance-based restricted stock units (RSUs). These RSUs are a form of compensation granted to employees, becoming vested and thereby exercisable or transferable based on achieving specific performance criteria over a set period. In other words, they hit a target — they accomplish a goal — and they’re rewarded with stock.
The shares they sold are just a part of the shares acquired. For instance, the CEO — Horacio Rozanski — received 71,575 shares, and he decided to sell 34,571. The EVP & Chief Operating Officer Kristine Anderson acquired 7,544 shares and sold 3,644.
Not a single one of them decided to sell the farm and run away.
Therefore, they might have sold a portion to cover taxes or diversify their portfolios. This is a common practice and doesn’t necessarily reflect a lack of confidence in the company’s future.
Besides, the number of shares sold is minimal compared to the total number they still hold. I told you the CEO sold 34,571 shares, but he is still holding 579,025 more. Kristine sold 3,644, but she still has 72,761.
In the end, it is not a red flag. But it was a kink I didn’t appreciate, considering they still decided to sell before earnings. Then again, it’s quite plausible that Booz Allen Hamilton’s top brass might be governed by internal clauses dictating when they can sell their vested shares. After all, many companies have strict trading windows and blackout periods to prevent any appearance of insider trading or conflict of interest.
Nonetheless, this was one of the two reasons why I only bought a trunk instead of backing up a Freightliner to load up with shares.
How my gambit played out
Honestly, there's no point in narrating the play on Reddit since I can't add the entry, premarket charts, profit, or any attachments. So... if you care about how I played this, the link is here.
One more insight I learned
Booz Allen Hamilton and its helmsman, Horacio Rozanski, aren’t clamoring atop the AI hype train, hollering for investors to crown them the new AI darling everyone should own.
Make no mistake, they’re an AI powerhouse. It’s just that they’re not focused on selling the sizzle.
In the current world, where companies blare out press releases at the faintest whiff of anything AI-related to entice investors, Booz Allen Hamilton — armed with bona fide credentials — opts to toil diligently away from the limelight.
Perhaps it’s by design, though. Considering this is a company that lists its fiscal 2024 revenue with most projects cloaked in secrecy.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here with all their classified contracts. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
So what happens now?
I’ve already tipped my hand and no longer hold any BAH shares. My play has come and gone.
Considering today's pullback, I bought a small number of September and December calls.
Now, after reading this essay, could someone consider investing in Booz Allen Hamilton? Maybe. AI is set to grow, the U.S. government is bound to expand its AI use, and this company is already well-positioned to secure more projects.
So, why am I not invested in BAH? Because I’m neither an investor nor a position trader. I’m a short-term swing trader. I played this earnings catalyst, made some profit, and then walked away.
Granted, after this deep dive, I’ll keep an eye on BAH and might tag along if she sets up for a northward run. But I know my timeframe. I know my trading style and my limitations.
Likewise, it’s up to you to know your trading style and decide what to do with this information.
Keep in mind, BAH experienced some volatility selling, and the implied volatility dipped post-earnings and guidance. Probably because some who positioned ahead of earnings were expecting a bigger leap. It’s logical to assume some will take their profits (as we saw today), so don't jump blindly.
On the flip side, these earnings mostly flew under the radar. Booz Allen Hamilton remains an AI colossus that most retail traders haven’t even heard of. Besides, do you know how many will actually read this and understand the information?
At any rate, now you know what I know.
Have a great day.

Most people will get HPV at some point in their lives. They often won’t even know they have it — it usually goes away without causing any problems.

Who can get HPV?
If you have ever had any sexual contact, you may have HPV. It is passed on through skin-to-skin contact. For HPV that affects the genitals, this includes vaginal, anal and oral sex. You can also get HPV through touching in the genital area and sharing sex toys.

Are there different types of HPV?
Yes — there are over 200 types. Some can be called ‘low-risk’ or ‘high-risk’ HPV depending on whether they are linked to cancer.
Low-risk HPV may not cause any problems. They sometimes lead to warts on your hands, feet or genitals.
14 types of HPV are called ‘high-risk’. These are the ones linked to cancer. The high-risk types of HPV are 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68.
High-risk HPV types 16 and 18 cause over 7 in 10 of all cervical cancers. In most people, HPV goes away within 2 years without causing any problems.

Will I get cancer if I have HPV?
Although most cervical cancer is caused by high-risk HPV, having the virus does not mean you will get cell changes or cancer. About 9 in 10 people get rid of HPV within 2 years, without it causing any problems. This includes high-risk HPV types.
If you are eligible, cervical screening and the HPV vaccine can help reduce your risk of developing cell changes or cervical cancer.

Is it true that HPV can stay in my body for a long time without me knowing?
Yes. Usually, your immune system gets rid of HPV within 2 years. But in some cases, HPV may stay in your body for longer.
Sometimes HPV does not cause any harm and will not be picked up by a test. We call this ‘dormant’ or ‘clinically insignificant’ HPV.
Occasionally, dormant HPV can become active again and may start to cause cervical cell changes. HPV that has become active would be detected with a test.
We don’t know exactly why this happens yet, but it may be because of changes in your immune system over time. It is important to remember that cervical screening (previously called a ‘smear test’) can help find HPV and any cell changes early.

Is sexual contact the only way of getting HPV?
We are still learning a lot about HPV. Some evidence suggests it may also be passed on during childbirth. However, the risk of this is low. Studies show that when babies do get HPV, their bodies usually clear it within 2 years.
There are reports of some babies who have HPV in their throat getting something called ‘recurrent respiratory papillomatosis’ or ‘RRP’. This is where warts appear in their airways, and this may make breathing difficult.
RRP is rare and can be treated. It has become even more rare now that HPV vaccination is available.
We understand that the thought of passing on HPV in this way may be worrying. But it is important to know that evidence suggests it is unlikely. If you have concerns, it may help to talk them through with your GP or midwife.
Can I get the same type of HPV more than once?
It might be possible for this to happen. This is because different people can have different levels of natural immunity to HPV.
Natural immunity is where your immune system remembers a virus from when you had it naturally in the past. It means if you get that virus again, your body can destroy it quickly before it causes any problems.
Some of us have low natural immunity to HPV, so it might be possible for you to get the same HPV type more than once.
Cervical screening helps to find HPV early. The HPV vaccine protects against the HPV types that cause 7 in 10 cervical cancers. Immunity from the vaccine is stronger than natural immunity.

As I get older, will I be less able to get rid of HPV?
Studies show it may be harder to clear HPV as you get older. Scientists also think other things could affect how likely you are to get rid of HPV. It might be affected by your immune system — some people’s bodies find it easier to fight HPV than others. It could also depend on the HPV type you have and whether you smoke. Smoking is thought to make you less likely to clear an infection.
It is important to remember that cervical screening (previously called a ‘smear test’) will help find HPV and cell changes early.

Can HPV be treated?
There is no treatment for HPV itself. But there are treatments for conditions caused by HPV, including genital warts, cervical cell changes and cancer.

Is there a test for HPV?
There are certain HPV tests in the UK for women and people with a cervix. These are done as part of the NHS cervical screening programme.

Can I ask for an HPV test at any time?
HPV tests are only available free as part of the NHS cervical screening programme. Women and people with a cervix that are 25–64 years old are invited for cervical screening.
In England and Northern Ireland, you are invited for cervical screening every 3 or 5 years, depending on your age. In Scotland and Wales, you are invited every 5 years — it does not matter how old you are.

If I have HPV, can I ask for my partner to have a test too?
HPV tests are only available for free when invited as part of the NHS cervical screening programme. Women and people with a cervix that are 25–64 years old are invited for cervical screening. There is no HPV test for men or people without a cervix available on the NHS.

Can men have a test for HPV?
There is currently no HPV test for men or people without a cervix available on the NHS.
HPV tests are available privately for a cost.

Is HPV the same virus that causes genital warts and cervical cancer?
Yes — but the types of HPV that cause genital warts and the ones that cause cervical cancer are different.
HPV types that cause genital warts are called ‘low-risk’. Those that can cause cervical cancer are called ‘high-risk’. Having genital warts does not mean you are more likely to get cancer.
HPV 6 and 11 are the most common low-risk types that can infect the genitals. They cause around 9 in 10 cases of genital warts. High-risk HPV types 16 and 18 cause more than 7 in 10 cervical cancers. The HPV vaccines used by the NHS include protection for these HPV types.

If I have genital warts, or have had them before, am I more likely to get cervical cancer?
No — genital warts do not cause cancer. The HPV types that cause genital warts are called ‘low-risk’ because they are not thought to be linked to cervical cancer. Most cervical cancer is caused by other types of HPV, called ‘high-risk’ HPV.
Does the HPV vaccine protect against genital warts?
The HPV vaccines given in schools and privately protects against HPV 6 and 11. These cause about 9 in 10 cases of genital warts.

Can I completely protect against genital warts?
Genital warts are caused by HPV. You can’t fully protect against HPV because it lives on the skin. But there are some ways to reduce your risk of getting it, including:

Do all HPV types cause cervical cancer?
No — most HPV types do not cause problems. Some cause warts on the hands, feet or genitals.
14 HPV types have been linked to cancer. These types are called 'high-risk' HPV. High-risk HPV can cause cancer of the cervix, vagina, anus, vulva, penis, and some head and neck cancers.
The high-risk HPV types are 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. Types 16 and 18 cause over 7 in 10 of all cervical cancers.

If HPV is so common, why don’t more of us get cervical cancer?
Your immune system usually gets rid of HPV by itself. For 9 in 10 of us, this happens within 2 years.
Sometimes, HPV will remain in your body and it might cause cells to change. Changed cells may turn into cervical cancer over time if they persist and are not monitored or treated.
Cervical screening (previously called a ‘smear test’) can find HPV and changed cells early. Most cell changes can be treated and will not develop into cervical cancer.
For a small number of women and people with a cervix, cell changes happen very quickly between cervical screening appointments. Sometimes, cell changes are not found by cervical screening, but this is rare.

If I’ve had cell changes or cervical cancer caused by high-risk HPV, can I get HPV again?
It might be possible for you to get HPV again. This may be the same HPV type your body had before. But you could get a type you have not had. If you have had one type of HPV, it is less likely you will be infected with that type again.
Sometimes when your body gets rid of a virus, it can remember it too. This means that if you get that virus again, your immune system can destroy it quickly before it causes any problems. When you are infected with a virus naturally and your body remembers it, this is called ‘natural immunity’.
Because we are all different, some people have lower natural immunity to HPV than others. We are also unsure how much natural immunity to one HPV type might protect you from another type. This means it may be possible for you to get the same HPV type again, or a type which you haven’t had before.

In the past, I had cervical cell changes that went away by themselves. Does this mean my immune system is now strong enough to fight HPV on its own?
It might be possible for you to get HPV again — it could be an HPV type your body has cleared before, or a new type.
Scientists think lots of things might affect how your body fights HPV. Some studies show it may be harder for you to get rid of HPV as you get older. Scientists also think it is affected by your natural immunity.
Natural immunity is where your body remembers a virus from when you had it naturally in the past. If you get that virus again, your immune system can destroy it quickly before it causes any problems.
Levels of natural immunity can be different from person to person — so natural immunity to HPV is low for some of us. This means you might be able to get an HPV type you’ve had before.
It is also unclear how much natural immunity to one type of HPV protects against other types. Evidence suggests that some types are harder than others for your body to get rid of.

If I have, or had, cervical cell changes, am I at risk of getting an HPV-related cancer?
There is a higher risk of developing an HPV-related cancer if you have cell changes in your cervix. This is also the case if you have had them in the past. The level of risk depends on how much the cells have, or had, changed compared to normal cells. This can be called the ‘grade’ of cell changes.
Low-grade changes rarely turn into cancer. Most cases clear up by themselves. High-grade changes are more likely to turn into cancer than low-grade changes.
It is important to remember that cell changes are not cancer. If you have them, or have had them before, it does not mean you will get cancer. It just means you are at more risk of getting cancer compared to someone who doesn’t have cell changes.

If I have, or had, cervical cancer, am I at risk of getting another HPV-related cancer?
If you have, or have had, cervical cancer, there is a higher risk of getting another cancer linked to high-risk HPV. There is not much evidence on how big this risk is.

Does having HPV mean my partner has been unfaithful?
No, this does not mean your partner has been unfaithful. It is hard to know who you got HPV from, or when. This is because HPV can be ‘dormant’ or ‘clinically insignificant’. This means it can be in your body for a long time without causing any problems or being picked up by a test. It might become active later and then found with a test, even if you’ve been with a partner for many years.

If my partner or I have HPV, will we keep passing it between each other?
It may be possible for two people in a monogamous relationship to both have the same type of HPV for a long time. However, this does not mean that it will cause symptoms or problems.
It also does not mean that you or your partner will have cell changes or get cancer. It might help to remember that nearly all people who have had sexual contact will get HPV at some point in their life.
Reinfection might happen within couples because different people can have different levels of natural immunity to HPV. Natural immunity is when your body remembers a virus from when you got it naturally in the past. If you get that virus again, your body can destroy it before it causes problems.
Studies show natural immunity to HPV can be low for some of us. This means that reinfection might happen within couples.
Although they don’t fully protect against HPV, condoms and dental dams (thin plastic square used to cover the anus or vagina during oral sex) can reduce your risk of HPV infection. Evidence suggests the HPV vaccine also protects you from HPV reinfection.

I am LGBTQ+. Am I at risk of getting HPV?
Anyone who has ever had any sexual contact can get HPV. Sexual contact includes:

I’ve only had sex with one person. Will I still get HPV?
It is possible to get HPV if you have only had sexual contact with one person. Sexual contact includes:
This is because your partner may have had more than one sexual contact. HPV is a common virus and is spread by skin-to-skin contact. 8 in 10 of us will have HPV at some point in our lives. The highest rates of HPV are in sexually active people up to the age of 25. But you can get HPV at any age.
Having HPV isn’t a sign that someone has had sexual contact with a lot of people. It also doesn’t mean someone has been unfaithful to a partner.
The risk of getting HPV increases with the number of sexual partners someone has, or the number of sexual partners their partner has had. But that is just because there is a higher chance of being exposed to HPV.

I’m sexually active but don’t currently have penetrative sex. Can I still get HPV?
Yes, you could still get HPV. This is because it is passed is on through skin-to-skin contact. This means you can get it without having penetrative sex. You can get it through oral sex, touching in the genital area and sharing sex toys.

Am I still at risk of getting HPV if I have a new sexual partner but use contraception?
Using barrier protection helps reduce your chance of getting HPV. This includes using:
However, these won’t completely get rid of the risk. This is because HPV lives on the skin in and around the whole genital area. Condoms and dental dams only cover some of your genitals.

In men, women and people with a cervix, genital HPV can affect the:

Other forms of contraception, such as oral contraceptive pills, do not protect against HPV.
I haven’t had sex for a long time. Could I still have HPV?
Yes — anybody who has ever been sexually active may have HPV. In most cases, your body gets rid of HPV within 2 years. But sometimes it can stay in our bodies for longer without causing any problems or showing up with a test. This is called ‘dormant’ or ‘clinically insignificant’ HPV.
This HPV can become active again. It may start to cause cell changes in the cervix. This active HPV would be detected with a test.

Do I have to tell current or future partners that I have HPV?
It is completely up to you. There is no official guidance or recommendation that you should tell anyone if you have HPV.

2024.05.28 19:20 AdMedEducational8731 Help me understand my RFE - this makes no sense, please!

Today I received an RFE regarding my joint sponsor
"Based on the documents submitted with Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, for the joint sponsor, XXXXX, the income did not meet 125 percent (100 percent if military) of the poverty guideline for the petitionesponsor's household size."
Along with the I-864 form, we added my joint sponsor's Tax Return for 2023 form 1040 (income 120k $ and total assets over 3 million dollars). How is that not enough for a joint sponsor? His household is just himself.
Can anyone please help me regarding what's the best way to answer? Are we lacking supporting evidence? If yes, what should we include?

Questions about Fee Waiver I-912 as Cuban (CAA)
Hi,
I'm applying for adjustment of status through CAA, but I wonder if it is possible to waive the fees since I'm not working. I came with my savings, and they are running low. My dad helps me with food and housing. He is American and works here. I was looking for alternatives and was told about Form I-912. I read that Cubans can actually apply for this, but evidence is required.
https://preview.redd.it/mnb8ynx4673d1.png?width=1497&format=png&auto=webp&s=56cf8485c3ccc77b93b9482c4d6512ccffab4ace
After reading all the instructions, I am still not sure about what kind of evidence I could provide. I don't receive any type of help from the government and can't apply for any right now because in Florida, they don't accept Cubans under B2 for assistance.
I read that a letter explaining my situation could work. I'm not sure if that will be enough, though. That's if I apply under Part 5. Income at or Below 150 Percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or Part 6. Financial Hardship.

My questions are:
  1. Can I really apply for a waiver given my situation?
  2. If so, what kind of evidence should I provide?
If any of you know anything about this, I would greatly appreciate your help
PS: If none of this works, I'll try to borrow some money from my dad, but I would prefer not to

2024.05.28 18:37 VenusFly92 Recommendations for 71 year old disabled father - California

Hello!
I tried messaging my father’s medi-cal case worker five months ago and I still haven’t received a response. I can never get anyone on the phone and my job doesn’t allow me flexible time off to go in person.
My father is disabled, 71 years only with his only income as social security. His medi-cal monthly share of cost is $1300 and after his Medicare premium deduction he only brings in $1784 so he cannot afford to pay his share of cost every month, plus rent, groceries and other expenses. His food stamp benefit is $23 a month. I’ve been trying to find ways to lower his share of cost because he needs a caretaker and I’d love to have him get help through IHSS but again, he can’t pay that share of cost monthly, it’s not realistic.
I’ve been looking into options and I found something called the aged and disabled federal poverty level program and it seems he could potentially qualify for a zero share of cost if I can get his countable income down to $1732 if I purchase him a private health plan and the amount he pays that per month will bring his countable income down. Is this accurate? If so, does anyone have any recommendations on plans just so I can help him get that share of cost lowered?
Any help is appreciated.
Age: 71 Male Disabled Zip: 93455 State: California Social security monthly benefit: $1958.50 Medicare premium: $174.70 Medi-cal share of cost: $1339

I recently tried Applegate Naturals Smoked Turkey Breast and let me tell you, it was a game-changer for me. As someone who's always been conscious of the food I consume, Applegate's commitment to using gluten-free, casein-free, and minimally-processed ingredients really resonated with me. What stood out was their dedication to raising turkeys humanely on family farms, with ample access to space and environmental enrichments.
One of my favorite things about this product is the lack of artificial preservatives. No nitrates, nitrites, or by-products were added, making it a healthier choice for me and my family. The fully-cooked smoked turkey breast was a hit at home, especially when paired with whole wheat bread and a side of cranberry jelly. My kids love it too, asking for more sandwiches every day.
However, there was an initial hitch with the shelf life. Upon opening the package, I found that the product had expired within two days. This was disappointing, but thankfully, it didn't affect the taste when used in sandwiches and wraps.
In conclusion, Applegate Naturals Smoked Turkey Breast is a winner in terms of flavor and health benefits. But be sure to check the expiration date before using it to avoid wastage.

Using this product was a breeze; the blend of hardwoods made for an impressive smoke that really brought the flavors to life. I noticed the all-natural aspect of the pellets, which added a natural touch to my food. The only downside was that the directions could have been clearer, but overall, I had a great experience using the Traeger Turkey Pellets Blend & Brine Kit. It's a perfect addition to any backyard barbecue or Thanksgiving feast.

One of the standout features for me was the Ninja Stick and hickory strikers that come with it. They both offer a unique sound, making it easy to mimic different hens out in the wild. The call itself is built with a YellowHeart pot and a treated black anodized aluminum surface, which gives it a sleek and sturdy feel.
However, there's one downside I noticed. The price tag on this call is a bit steep, especially compared to other options on the market. But hey, sometimes you just gotta pay a little more for quality, right?
Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase. The Woodhaven Ninja Aluminum Call is definitely a worthwhile investment for any serious turkey hunter out there. The dark annealed finish not only looked sleek but also showed off the durability of the wire. One issue I faced was that the 1540 ft.

Buyer's Guide

Welcome to our buyer's guide for 20 Gauge Turkey Loads. In this section, we will discuss the essential features and considerations when selecting the right 20 Gauge Turkey Loads for your needs. We also provide some general advice to help you make an informed decision.

Importance of Ammo Selection

https://preview.redd.it/u9tesgtgs43d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a422f1667e52f98e66e32a25a8e4d250a2eaf87

Choosing the correct ammo for your hunting purposes is crucial. 20 Gauge Turkey Loads are designed specifically for turkey hunting and come with various options, such as shot pellets, slugs, or sabot rounds. The right ammo can increase your chances of a successful hunt, so it's essential to consider factors like the turkey's size, range, and seasonal behaviors.

Factors Affecting Shot Patterns

The shot pattern of a 20 Gauge Turkey Load is affected by several factors, including the type of shell, the payload, the distance, and the choke tube. Familiarizing yourself with how these factors work can help you make a more informed decision.

Understanding Shell Types

There are two main shell types for 20 Gauge Turkey Loads: lead shot and non-toxic shot. Lead shot shells are generally more affordable, while non-toxic shells are required in some hunting areas due to lead restrictions. Conduct research on your hunting area's regulations to ensure you are using the appropriate shell type.

Choosing the Right Payload

20 Gauge Turkey Loads come with various payloads, such as #5, #6, or #7 shot. The payload size affects the shot pattern and the range. Larger payloads provide a more concentrated pattern at shorter distances, while smaller payloads offer a wider spread for longer shots. Consider the distance you will be shooting at and the turkey's size when selecting the right payload.

Distance and Choke Tube Considerations

Turkey hunting often takes place at various distances, so it's crucial to choose ammo with an appropriate choke tube. A tighter choke allows for a more concentrated shot pattern at longer distances, while a looser choke provides a wider spread for shorter shots. Additionally, ensure the ammo has the right ballistic coefficient for your hunting situation, as this affects the ammo's flight characteristics and penetration.

🔗High-Voltage Choke Tubes for Improved Shooting Performance

https://preview.redd.it/6e34lvm2643d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01673900f63380a8bf7689901839925af3b45527
In my quest to take my duck hunting game to the next level, I stumbled upon Jebs 20ga Browning Invector Plus - Duck - Size. 580. These high-voltage choke tubes were my saving grace on those "longer shots. " Their patented design provided a more consistent shot pattern and a shorter, more distinct shot stream. While I appreciated how well these tubes handled various types of ammo, I did realize that they could be a bit finicky when it came to fitting certain firearms.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend these Jebs Precision Choke Tubes to anyone looking to enhance their duck hunting experience.

🔗Easy Touch Hypodermic Needles: Comfortable 20 Gauge Injection Experience

https://preview.redd.it/kuflfs53643d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79f882c31ea10c5fa368599ba1ea2880b5a96309
I've had the chance to use the Easy Touch Hypodermic Needles in my daily life, and I must say, they've made a huge difference in my injection experience. The high-quality manufacturing combined with their latex-free nature ensures a comfortable and smooth process, every time.
One feature that stood out to me was their compatibility with standard luer lock and slip fit syringe barrels. This convenience means I don't have to worry about purchasing additional components or adapters.
However, there is one aspect I wish was improved: the barrel isn't included with these needles. While it's not a major issue, it's something I would've appreciated as an all-in-one solution.
Overall, the Easy Touch Hypodermic Needles have proven to be a reliable and comfortable choice for my injection needs.

🔗Lee Precision LP90192 000 Buck Shot Mold for Reloading 12 Gauge and Small Calibers

I've recently given the Lee Precision LP90192 000 Buck Shot Mold a whirl in my reloading sessions, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my 18-cavity Lee Buckshot Mould collection. The aluminum material not only makes this mould rust-resistant but also allows it to heat up and cool down much faster than its steel or iron counterparts, reducing fatigue during long reloading sessions.
While some users have mentioned a slight variance in the bullet weights, I've found that the precision-machined mould consistently produces 18 linked pellets per cast, which is enough to fill two 12 Gauge shotshells. The mould's high casting rate of 3000 pellets per hour means I can quickly build up my 000 Buckshot supply, saving both time and money in the process.
One nitpick I have is the absence of handles, making the mould a bit more challenging to grip and manipulate during use. Additionally, some users have experienced issues with fully filling the bottom row of cavities, which might require some trial and error to overcome.
All in all, the Lee Precision LP90192 000 Buck Shot Mold has been a valuable addition to my reloading arsenal, offering a top-notch, cost-effective solution for hunters and sports enthusiasts alike.

🔗Stranded Hookup Wire: 300 Volt, Gauge 20, Black, Resistant to Moisture and Flame Tested

The Stranded Hookup Wire is a versatile and reliable product that has become my go-to for various electronic projects. The wire's stranded tinned copper conductor, coupled with its PVC insulation, offers exceptional durability and resistance to moisture, oil solvents, and fungus. It's an excellent choice for point-to-point wiring and is UL and CSA listed for added assurance.
One of the standout features of this wire is its ability to pass the VW-1 Vertical Flame Test, which confirms its safety and reliability in high-temperature conditions. Its resistance to moisture and other harsh elements makes it ideal for indoor and outdoor applications alike. Using this wire for my hobbyist projects has made the process smoother and more efficient.
However, it's essential to note that while the Stranded Hookup Wire is highly resilient, it still needs to be handled with care. The stranded nature of the wire might be less suitable for situations requiring greater flexibility or ease of bending. Nevertheless, its overall performance and dependability make it a solid choice for various electronic projects.

🔗20 Gauge Stainless Steel Hypodermic Needle, without Safety, Straight Style

For years now, I've been using Monoject Hypodermic Needles for various injections and have found them incredibly reliable. Their 20 Gauge needles are a perfect choice for most medical procedures I perform. The color-coded gauge strip and barcode on each package provide a clear indication of needle size and sterility. What made these needles stand out were their tri-bevel point and precision ground anti-coring design, ensuring smooth insertion and removal.
One interesting aspect is that they don't require a safety tip, which offers better access to the needle tip and simplified injection procedures. I appreciate that every needle comes individually wrapped and sterilized, providing added comfort and safety. When it comes to shipping, my orders always arrive quickly. However, the shipping fees can sometimes feel a bit high.
On the downside, I've noticed that the needle lubricant can sometimes be a bit sticky and may require some wiping off before use. But overall, I find that the benefits of these hypodermic needles far outweigh any minor inconveniences.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot, there are a few important aspects to consider. This type of ammunition is commonly used for hunting small game, such as squirrels, rabbits, and turkeys. Choosing the right 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot can make all the difference in your hunting experience, so let's dive into the key features, considerations, and general advice for this product category.

Shot Payload and Performance

https://preview.redd.it/vzhwv5w4643d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83d44ed2a609651f1da10513f78d13b161cab593
The 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot typically features nine buckshot pellets, which is a standard configuration for this type of ammunition. The shot payload has a range of about 10 to 20 feet per second, depending on the specific brand and model. This makes it suitable for medium to close-range hunting. When using this ammunition, aim for vital organs to ensure a clean kill.

Shell Length and Wad Design

When choosing a 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot, consider the shell length and wad design. A longer shell is preferred for better penetration and a cleaner pattern. The wad design is also essential, as it helps ensure consistent spread and accuracy. Some popular wad designs include fiber and cup wads.

Power and Energy

The energy delivered by 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot can vary depending on the specific brand and model. This type of ammunition typically delivers a muzzle velocity of around 1,100 to 1,300 feet per second, which results in an energy range of 100 to 200 foot-pounds. This is enough to effectively hunt small game at close to medium ranges, but it may not be suitable for larger game or longer distances.

https://preview.redd.it/sdspt475643d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e885203fda0ac014a77d7b32f63a33cee4e5a5b9

Brand Reputation and Reliability

When purchasing 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot ammunition, make sure to choose a reputable brand. Some well-known brands in the category include Federal, Winchester, and Remington. A reliable brand ensures consistent quality, performance, and safety.

Price and Value

Price can be a factor when choosing 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot, as higher-priced ammunition may offer improved performance or reliability. However, it is essential to strike a balance between price and value to ensure you get the most bang for your buck while still achieving your hunting objectives.

Environmental Considerations

https://preview.redd.it/7my47mm5643d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfe4eec953aa2f696b56b561defeef24c8bec2fb
Hunters should be aware of the environmental impact of their ammunition. Some 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot loads contain lead and may not be as environmentally friendly as alternatives, such as copper or non-toxic options. Consider your environmental impact and choose ammunition that aligns with your values.
When it comes to 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot, consider factors such as shot payload, shell length, wad design, power, and energy. Make sure to choose a reputable brand, balance price and value, and be mindful of environmental considerations. With these factors in mind, you can select the best 20 Gauge 00 Buckshot ammunition for your hunting needs.

2024.05.28 04:21 CertainlyBright I need to calculate wind load and foundation sizes for rohn SSV towers

I have the top five sections of a rohn 320ft SSV tower. This is how the tower was dis-assembled years ago, just the top five sections were put up as a tower and taken down years ago.
I am now refurbishing it, inspecting the welds, re-galving and repainting it.
My next steps are to calculate the foundation requirements and wind surface area maximum's at the top.
Im pretty sure that information is all there in the spec sheet, but I need some guidance to understand the terminology on that spec sheet.
For wind load, on page 3, the column where it mentions "allowable projected area", tower top rounds (flats), the rounds are probably surface area of rods (omni antenna) and the flats are the surface areas of sector and dishes?
For foundation base, on page 5, for the 5N tower, is it saying that I need a 8ft 9inch square pad, that is 4ft deep? My soil is sandy, and while I have not done a soil pressure test, I would think its more loose than other soils with clay in it. Should I be doing these calculations on my own rather than following general guidelines from this rohn datasheet?

BREAKTHROUGH OR BOAST? THE QUEST FOR COMPARABLE RESEARCH RESULTS

More international attention is being paid to the importance of common standards for performing scientific experiments and measuring their results—a field called metrology. In late 2019, physicist Dr. Lorenzo Pattelli was part of an Italian-Chinese scientific team working on a cooling technology that is fast gaining attention as the Earth gets hotter from climate change. Called passive daytime radiative cooling, or PDRC, the technology uses engineered materials to reflect away the sun’s radiation. The idea is that, amid heat waves, PDRC panels would cool buildings without the need for energy-intensive

The era of low-cost air travel in Europe may be over for good, thanks in part to recent EU environmental policies. All in all, this is good news for the climate. But many low- and middle-income people who used to travel around the EU will no longer be able to do so, or at least will be able to do so much less often. Yet the same policies will have little or no impact on the use of much more polluting private jets, which typically cover distances served by commercial

Hello, I am US citizen petitioning (I-130) for my mom. She has lived in Mexico for over 14 years now, so she’s not currently a visa holder of any kind.
After years of going through the process, we finally got documentarily approved. However I also got a message saying “This case does not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of the interview."
I am currently a stay at home mom, so I don’t have income, however I used my husbands income which is substantially over the 125% poverty guidelines. ( yes we did the household agreement I864a) However this job started this year and wasn’t reflected on previous taxes. Is this why? Will we need to find a joint sponsor? If so, do I just have all documents ready for the interview? (whenever that happens, I’ve heard it can take years) Or do I need to submit them on the website and wait to be DQed again?
Also, will I need to be present at the interview or can my mom go alone?

Although Washington has a charity care law that I qualify based on my income, I don’t think chiropractic is considered one of the covered treatments.
I saw a chiropractor for a year, I did not know what else at the time helped ease the discomfort in my neck as I tried many other forms. While they did not need me to pay until at the end of the treatment, I didnt know they had billed me for physical therapy codes they claimed they performed for all their patients. I appealed the physical therapy to Aetna but lost, and my final over $500 in physical therapy on top of the chiropractor adjustments. I did qualify for charity care since my income was below 150% of federal poverty, I did not know chiropractor would charge extra as they were not physical therapists, but Aetna claim they have no access to the records
What can I do?

2024.05.27 19:39 emkayPDX Drafting a Victim Impact Statement

I just sent in my Victim Impact Statement, and I thought I'd post the text of it here (with some info redacted) in the hopes it might help others with drafting theirs. Your story, of course will vary, but perhaps this will help others get the ball rolling (and remind folks to send one in.)
My suggestions for drafting your statement (FWIW) are make it impactful, but keep it professional, honest, and factual. That's the route I tried to take anyway.
Note that victim impact statements should be sent to:
wendy.olsen@usdoj.gov tanya.trakht@ag.ny.gov
Subject: Victim Impact Statement: People v. Mashinsky, 2023 N.Y. Slip Op. 50826 (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2023)
Dear Wendy & Tanya:
I am one of the many creditors in the Celsius Network bankruptcy who was defrauded by Alex Mashinsky. I would like to provide a victim impact statement in the case of People v. Mashinsky, 2023 N.Y. Slip Op. 50826 (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2023). I held funds on the Celsius Networks platform ("Celsius") from [redacted] until June 12, 2022, when distributions from the platform were halted.
I am a 55-year-old woman. I spent most of my career in a corporate managerial position, during which time I diligently accumulated savings, a significant portion of which I invested in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
In 2021, due to health issues after multiple bouts of COVID-19, I left the workforce, and have been unemployed since then. I have applied for SSI disability twice, and have been denied. At the time I left the workforce, I knew that qualifying for SSI disability might be difficult (given that COVID-related impairments can be nebulous and difficult to prove). The repeated assurances of the safety and security of funds held on the Celsius platform, communicated directly by Alex Mashinsky on official Celsius outlets, were instrumental in my decision to rely upon the funds I had on Celsius being available to support me after I left my job.
On June 12, 2022, when Celsius paused distributions, I had multiple cryptocurrency assets on the platform, the bulk of which were in BTC and ETH. My BTC and ETH holdings as of June 12, 2022 were:
[Redacted]
At the time of this statement, these assets, had they been returned to me, would have a current value of over $166,000.*
The impact on my current condition as the result of Mr. Mashinsky's criminal actions and fraudulent misrepresentations is damaging to the extreme. Currently, I have no stable source of income. I take random "gig work" as my health allows. My current income averages less than $1,000 a month, well below the Federal poverty level, and barely covers basic necessities such as fuel, automobile insurance, and servicing old credit card debt. My elderly mother allows me to live in her basement rent-free, as I cannot afford to rent a separate home. I receive less than $300 a month in food stamps and am enrolled in my state's Medicare program. I am also currently being sued by two credit card companies after I became unable to pay when my financial circumstances collapsed. If the assets I trusted to Celsius had not been stolen from me by Alex Mashinsky, I would have easily been able to repay those balances. Instead, I now face a downward spiral of poverty and a destroyed credit score for what, realistically, is the rest of my life.
My investments in Bitcoin and Ethereum were based on careful research, and I believe the subsequent rise in the value of these cryptocurrencies (and their increasingly widespread institutional adoption) speaks to my due diligence in choosing to invest in them. I used similar due diligence when choosing to use Celsius as a platform on which to hold my assets. No amount of due diligence, however, would have been sufficient to protect me from Mr. Mashinsky's overtly fraudulent representations of the safety of assets on the platform.
I hope the court will take my statement, and those of others similarly affected, under serious consideration when weighing punishment for Mr. Mashinsky and restitution for the victims of his crimes. My story is not unique, and is by no means the worst of many I have heard reported. Mr. Mashinsky's fraudulent actions have destroyed many lives, and have resulted in severe financial distress which may, ultimately, be impossible for many investors to recover from.
Thank you for your attention.
[Signature]
*Note: As a creditor in Celsius Network's Chapter 11 bankruptcy, I was granted a recovery in the amount of [redacted] which is little more than 1/4 of the amount I had on the platform on June 12, 2022. As of the date of this impact statement, those settlement funds have not yet been disbursed to me, owing to incompetence on the part of Stretto, Celsius' distribution agent.

Retro Gaming 10’s- Resident Evil: Revelations (2012)

The Resident Evil series has been around for almost 30 years now and it seems like some of the best entry series had emerged during the 90’s and the 2000’s depending on who you ask. Despite, the Resident Evil games from the 2010’s not being quite popular as entries from previous decades Capcom did create few cool installments during that decade that do not get enough credit. Resident Evil: Revelations from 2012 is probably one of the most underrated installments within the entire RE series along with Code: Veronica from 2000. The fact that Resident Evil: Revelations started off on the Nintendo 3DS was crazy especially since it was “M” rated and looked like it belonged on the PlayStation Vita. However, Nintendo 3DS was a massive commercial success unlike the Vita console which was the opposite. Resident Evil: Revelations appeared on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2012 mainly because Resident Evil 6 appeared on the PS3 console that same year. There are many people who were under the impression that Resident Evil: Revelations was arguably a better game than RE6 despite its lack of commercial success. Even though, Resident Evil: Revelations was eventually ported to PS3, PS4, PC, Xbox 360, Wii-U and Xbox One did still did not sell nearly as much as RE6 which reached over eight million copies in sales.
https://preview.redd.it/ivr2zztu403d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c084000993694a51d375ebafbc1d23aebbe39157
Resident Evil: Revelations on the Nintendo 3DS looked impressive than many had initially expected from the map display all the way down to the voice over acting. Resident Evil: Revelation looked absolutely looked amazing on home consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One mainly because it had a story that players could easily get into. The story saw Jill Valentine returning as the main protagonist alongside with another popular character Chris Redfield trying to stop the plans of a bio-terrorist organization named Veltro. In Resident Evil; Revelations Jill and Chris try to do everything in their power to prevent Veltro from infecting every ocean in the world by using biological weapons. As terrifying as Veltro’s plan sounded the story became even darker when The Federal Bioterrorism Commission director Morgan Lansdale ended up using a orbital satellite to fry the city of Terragrigia to counteract their plans. The story for Resident Evil: Revelations took many unexpected twists and turns to a point where some believe that it was convoluted. While controlling Jill Valentine on the ghost ship was fun some were probably frustrated by the fact that she could only carry three firearms at once. The puzzle solving aspects of the game was fun and the boss battles were not too difficult maybe with the exception of Ultimate Abyss. After discovering Veltro’s plans regarding the T-Abyss the new strain of the T-Virus story focused mainly on the war between FBC and the bio-terrorist organization. Resident Evil: Revelations was arguably a way better game than Resident Evil 5 & 6 and quite possibly one of the last decent new entries in the series before RE7: Biohazard which was a game that critics have mixed feelings about it despite its level of success.
