FMH Master Doc

2024.05.19 04:12 pizzapillowfort FMH Master Doc

The moment a lot of you have been waiting for is here!
A couple of notes before you read (or after because I would just jump into the list right away too)
  1. Direct quotes from Ali herself are in italics.
  2. I tried my best to keep everything in timeline order. Some people like The Come Back Kid I placed in the order where they reconnected/talked about on the pod. But I did my best to note this.
  3. All this information came from the FMH podcast, the Patreon, the original FMH blog, TikTok and other podcast that feature FMH/Ali. I also crossed reference information with this sub. I got most of this done with the help of the Patreon and listening to 1.75x speed but I lost accessed to the Patreon because my subscription ended.
  4. I'm open to edits! Things around the matchmaker era confused me and if anything is incorrect or if I'm missing someone, please let me know! I will note where corrections are made.
  5. Some people don't have anything simply because only a name was said or I couldn't find any details about the person/date
  6. And of course, please be respectful of all the sub rules!

In 2021, he DM’d her when she posted photos of her and her mom in France and invites her to visit him in London, she says she can’t but says they should catch up if he comes to NYC
Fourth Boyfriend
Met on OkCupid when you had to use it on the computer, this was mentioned on Tiktok
The Homecoming Date or Light Switch
First boyfriend? (she goes back and forth calling him her first bf or a situationship), a family friend, a month younger than Ali, dated in high school but went to different high schools, football player, made him ask her to her Homecoming dance over email (her words), Ali hid in the bathroom the whole Homecoming dance, 3-4 revisits of this situations as adults, saw him on Bumble a few years ago and texted him that he had a typo in his bio, “he very much wanted to be with me” and now he’s married with a kid. His mom is still “obsessed” with Ali and she listens to FMH
Random college guy
Freshman year of college, Ali doesn’t have a nickname for him/doesn’t remember his real name, met this guy through a friend, was texting him to invite him over to hot tub but her phone autocorrected to “how about some hot rubbing tonight?” but Ali didn’t noticed/didn’t correct it and he never replied, Ali had a house party and got really drunk and was all over him, he left the party early, she messaged him on MySpace 3-4 times asking why he left
The Resident
Matched on Match.com, first guy she dated in NYC after college, older than Ali, a doctor, lasted 3 months ”maybe”, he didn’t like Ali’s friends, got a card from him on her birthday and it said “Love, The Resident” and it took Ali back a little, Ali drinks black coffee because of him, he coordinated having her mom visit NYC for her birthday then he broke up with her a week later
The Ghost
Met at a bar when she was 25, turns out they matched on OkCupid and they already had a date scheduled next week, they dated for 6-8 weeks, had sleepovers, “The worst ghosting experience I’ve ever had”, he borrowed The Great Gatsby from Ali’s roommate, planned to make dinner together after a beach trip in August with her friends and never showed up, Ali is blowing up his phone and gets no reply, two weeks later she finally texts “are you alive? check yes or no” and he responds “Yes”, Ali then ask if he could return the book and gets no reply again, 5 months go by and she receives the book in the mail with the note: “Here’s the book back. Sorry. P.S. sorry about last summer. I was in a bad place. You’re a great person and your salmon is amazing”, since then she has ran into him twice on the streets and matched with him on Bumble
The Coach/Mr. Adorable
First serious boyfriend at 26/27 in 2013, matched on Match.com or met through work depending if you’re listening to the pod or reading her OG blog, clean-cut look, played volleyball, Ali invited him to a friend’s birthday party and they made out in the streets at 4am, on their second date he asked Ali if she was seeing any one and when Ali said no he ask her to be his girlfriend 3 days after their first date, dated for almost 1.5 years or almost 2 years depending on if you’re listening to the pod or the Patreon, first time saying “I love you” to a guy, “lovely guy“, never would posted Ali on his instagram until Ali said something, he “lived” with her for two weeks while he was in between apartments, tried blind folding/hair pulling during sex and she didn’t like it, by the end of their relationship Ali didn’t like sex and thought she wasn’t a very sexual person, after they broke up Ali drunk texted him at 2am and he picked her up and she spent the night and she took her things in the morning in a rolly suitcase, from her blog in 2015: “I just want to be careful I don’t end up with another Mr. Adorable situation, where I find myself dating my platonic best friend”, had drinks with him in 2016 from the blog: “Not in a romantic way (at least on my end)”, Ali still talks to him sometimes through casual instagram DMs, he’s currently (as of 2021) dating someone for 4+ years and Ali thinks they’re going to get engaged
Trouble
OG 2015 FMH blog, never mentioned on the pod, “I was immediately enamored with him”, met at a Beer Olympic party but he worked with one of Ali’s best friends (Ali was still dating The Coach at the time), lived in BK, tattoos and stubble, Ali’s best friend said he was a “fuck boy”, “he very much made me see that it was the right thing for me and The Coach to not be together”, from her blog in 2015: “he has this look in his eye like he’s constantly laughing at me – in a super sexy way”, he texted her saying he didn’t see anything romantically with her and she sent a gif of someone shrugging
Personal side note: Ali has mentioned she has cheated on someone but never disclosed who she cheated on or with. I feel like she cheated on Mr.A/The Coach with Trouble because of the timeline. Just a guess.
Waffles
Matched on Bumble, OG 2015 FMH blog, he asked Ali fuck/marry/kill breakfast foods, dated 2 months around summer time, on Fourth of July while watching fireworks he said how they had a great day and Ali replied with something along the lines with “yeah, it would be better if I could call you my boyfriend”, he said he wanted a relationship but just not with Ali and shortly afterwards they stopped seeing each other
The Buffalo
Lived in Buffalo NY, 6’5, Scorpio, met in 2015 at Adults National volleyball (Ali’s team won that year) where he was heckling her while she was playing, asks Ali’s mom for her number and Ali’s mom said “I guess you’re tall enough” and told him to ask her himself, he flew her out and she met his parents, dated over summer, exclusive but never boyfriend/girlfriend (but called him her LD boyfriend on TikTok), texted and talked on the phone a lot, Ali’s best friend’s favorite ex “they had really good banter”, in October he invited her to his cousins wedding and she invited him to her friends wedding, after Ali bought her ticket to his cousins wedding (with the promise he would buy her ticket to her friend’s wedding) he ghosted and stonewalled her, she “poured her heart out to him on voicemail” and he never replied, she asked him to pay her back for her ticket and he got mad that she “made this about money”, 2 years later he told Ali that he freaked out because he really liked her and saw a future with her but knew she would never move to Buffalo and it would “never work”, Ali said at the time she would have considered moving for him, Ali used to have him blocked on Facebook and told all her friends not to update her on info about him (unless she asked). He’s now married and goes to Disney with his wife (which Ali kind of scoffs at?), Ali said on TikTok that she dodged a bullet
Baby Bic
Met him at Adults National years ago, had a flirtationship with him in 2016 when he was 19 years old, ran into him at the Adults Nationals 2021, last texts she got from him were about getting his fake ID taken away at the bar and him visiting her in NYC but Ali didn’t want to buy him beer and drink at her apartment
The Chef
Matched on Tinder around 2016, he loved karaoke, “total shit”, asked Ali to be his girlfriend and to meet his mom after a month, off and on dating, broke up the first time because he was talking to his ex, lied and flew to Mexico to see his ex while dating Ali, that ex sent Ali a Snapchat of them in bed together on that Mexico trip, Ali broke up with him via text and called him a shitty boyfriend, he’s the reason Ali deleted her Snapchat because of drunk Snaps he would send post break up, FB messaged Ali 6 years later (while Roark was visiting/staying with Ali) and said sorry for being a shit head. Ali’s best friends hated him
The Dentist
Met on Halloween in the wild, Canadian, dated NYE 2016- May 2017 “nice guy, not my guy”, one of Ali’s best friend’s favorite ex “he adored you, “he was too sweet for me” and “he had no edge to him”, he painted Ali’s cat for her 30th birthday but she was annoyed it was just Rory and not both cats, The Chef texted Ali while on a date/sleeping at his house
ASV - Aspiring Sober Vegan
Met through a friend (her best guy friend’s college roommate) the day before she had to fly out to her dad’s memorial, a doctor, into meditation, remembered him “being cuter” when they went on a first date, felt “the spark”, had “omg this is awesome sex”, Ali described this relationship as a “slow burn” and “the most attracted she ever been to a partner” even thought she didn’t think he was that cute in the beginning, dated 2-3 months before he tried to ghost Ali but they talked and broke up, four months later they start casually dating/FWB because he’s moving but this turns into a ‘middle distance relationship’ and he moves to Philly, had a lot of communication issues but didn't have a lot of fights, wants to live in Ohio and give a % of his income to charity, Ali was close to saying ‘I love you’ but didn’t, he uninvited her to meet his extended family and they got in a fight, broke up with her a couple weeks before their 6 month anniversary at the park while on a picnic and told her that she’s still his favorite person, Ali used to think he was “the one that got away” and would frequently have dreams about him. From what Ali knows, he's sober but not vegan
The Scientist
2017 or 2018ish, from San Diego, went on one date, Ali ended up ghosting him due to the decline in her dad’s health, saw him on Hinge while she was in San Diego for 3 months in 2020, texted him and apologized for ghosting him, ended up going on 2-3 more dates, took a selfie in front of his house and sent it to him but acted like she didn’t know that was his house and made a TikTok about it, things ended up not working but she doesn’t make it clear on who ended it. She can now see she shouldn’t have been going on dates during this time when her dad was sick.
Good on Paper Divorced Dude
Met a couple of years ago (she told this story on TikTok in 2020) on Bumble
The Groomsman
Met at her friend Ashley’s wedding in Chicago Oct 2019, had a “two night stand” with him, texted/talked/FT’d for 3-4 months, divorced, never dated seriously/FWB, saw each other a couple time when he came to NYC, Ali stopped talking with him due to FMH and her trying to find a serious relationship, he starts dating someone, follows FMH on insta, slid into her DM in 2022 and then sent her soup while she was sick, turns out he’s single again, 2 months later Ali is heading to Chicago and texts him “Hello! Reminder that my arrival to your neck of the woods is imminent” and turns out he is now seeing someone and Ali doesn’t see him while in Chicago (at least she doesn’t mention it)
Unnicknamed person
He was her plus one at her best friend from college’s NYE wedding 2019/2020, met and hung out with Ali’s mom, posted photos of them together on her personal Insta story, “fully dating but weren’t official hehe” doesn’t have a nickname/never gave him a nickname? This could be The Latvian/the person she texted her friend in DC about saying “I think I’m on a date with my husband”

Matched on The League, 34 years old, requested a nickname change from Pie Guy to Dr. Laundry, he had to cancel their second date because he got hit by a car, went on two dates, Ali sent him a pic of his subway stop saying something along the lines of “the stop isn’t looking as cute today” and turns out someone he dated with in that photo, were supposed to go on a third date the night she got back from a bachelorette party but he didn't answer her text when she said she landed, the next day he asked her how her trip was not acknowledging her previous text at all, Ali expressed her disappointment and he replied that he was tired last night, she said she would've been understanding if he said something then ghosted her
Andddd I stopped listening to the podcast around the Dr. Pie Laundry Guy but have stayed up to date with everything via this sub.
I have a huge interest in dating culture, human behavior and data similar to Ali and this little project of mine was really interesting once I got the framework of this list. I started this list once I found this sub in December 2023 and started re listening to the Patreon while working out (and lost 10 lbs ayeee) and writing down information in my notes app. I did my best to keep this list unbiased and just give facts and information that was said.
My own thoughts after making this list is that I'm very sad for Ali. I didn't realize the extent of her dating history. I think about my own dating history or even my friends who are in their 30's and dating and Ali's dating lore runs so deep. Is Ali unlucky with love? Did she pass on someone that could have been great for her? How has she had so many dates with little success in a long term partner or even going beyond 6-8 dates? Or is Skyline the person she has been waiting for? What's the pattern with all this dates/men? So many questions.
I truly do hope Ali finds her guy because I believe theres someone for everyone. Until then, I'll be hopping into this sub (cause y'all are too funny and give the best advice) and waiting for Ali to find Mr. Height.
Enjoy and I look forward to everyone thoughts! I'll keep my eye out for any edits that need to be made.

2024.05.15 18:12 shinepinkcrazyfloyd Missing Mascot - Epic Park Birthday Adventure

I thought I had more time to put this together, but my son's 12th birthday party has been moved to this Sunday and I am creating a puzzle style scavenger hunt. We're hosting it at a park the kids know very well, nearly all the kids have grown up going to this park.
My theme is the Missing Football Mascot, that they are on the hunt for with clues to its location. The mascot is going to be a stuff sloth. He has velcro hands and feet, so I was even thinking the end game could be him hanging discreetly in some tree that the kids eventually find. I've named it Treetop Tilly!
Here's what I have so far, and could use an idea for creating a puzzles around these props/locations, and then I'll figure out how to tie them together. I'm also open to adding additional puzzles. I have access to a printer, so I can print stuff as needed.
PROPS
LOCATIONS
-Playground Wood Train - the kids grew up climbing on this thing, they know it super well. It has a plaque that says "ML EXPRESS" The train is red, and the plaque is Yellow- Perhaps a puzzle that spells this out
-Small "Foresty" area with a super spiky log on the ground.
-The garden Shed - this park has a little storage area with birds and water cans painted on it. 4 Watercans and 4 birds (Looking for a puzzle that helps them locate this shed)
-The park has lots of benches with memory plaques on it. One says "A Friend To All" so I wanted to create a puzzle that requires them to check all the benches until they find this one.
-A Volleyball area that has sand. I was thinking of burying something in the sand.
-A lawn bowling area - it is fenced, and I could easily tuck an envelope in the fence somewhere.
-The labyrinth - A local church has this landscaped space, you can't really tell what it is until you look at it on a map, and i'm not even sure the kids have ever noticed it as its tucked away in the corner, but I thought it could be a really cool place of interest when shown on a map. https://www.abbotsfordanglican.ca/news/mill-lake-labyrinth
Any ideas for puzzles pointing to these locations would be so appreciated!! And then i'll figure out how I can tie them together.
Thank you!!!!

2024.05.15 16:29 OwnOrder3758 Hinata’s Secret Talent(Slight Manga Spoilers)

Hinata has one thing I think flew over my head many times until many instances clicked in my head, a very very strong power of visualization(imagination).
There’s many instances of Hinata using this “power” in the series, it definitely made some scenes look cool, but he started using it very effectively as a player.
During practice, specifically in the ball boy arc, Hinata’s visualization allowed him to imagine jerseys, bleachers behind them, and specified to himself “This is defense— I am a receiver..” and this seems like something just for drama, but in his time going pro (the final timeskip match) it was told that hinata actively practices his visualization and uses it during games, specifically imagining beach volleyball on defense against Ushijima.
There’s not real value in this observation, I just thought it was very cool of the Manga to show rather then outright say (until the last moment)

2024.05.14 18:43 bvh9df34890 AITA for splurging on my stepson?

I (37F) have 4 biological children (17F, 16M, 12M and 10M) and 4 stepchildren (15F, 13M, 11M and 8F) with my husband (38M).
Yesterday, for Mother’s Day, I wanted to go to a baseball game. I’ve always been a sports fan, growing up, I was all into watching baseball, basketball, etc. I played volleyball in school. No one in my family liked sports and at school, I experienced either allegations of being a lesbian or only watching sports for the hot men, all of these allegations were by the girls in my middle and high school. I still was passionate about sports and even considered majoring in psychical education.
I mentioned this idea a few months back and my biological children all said they didn’t want to go, the only one who was interested was my stepson Axton (13M).
Axton is the jock of the family, like I was. He plays baseball and said he wanted to go with me. Axton is close to me, probably closer than he is to his dad or mom. Axton is a sweet kid, but is one of those kids who has a strong desire for autonomy. He goes to a Montessori school as he flourishes there compared to regular school, where the opposite is true for his siblings and step siblings. He’s always challenging authority, including mine. He can apologize when he’s wrong, but if he believes he was unfairly grounded, he’ll wear that grounding as a badge of honor for sticking up for what he believes in. He can be a real pain sometimes, but he’s also very caring and a good boy at heart.
His biological mother tries to be more of an authority figure, which my husband and I always back her decisions, but it hasn’t worked for her and her relationship with Axton isn’t great. Axton is most open to me and he’s told me he loves his mom, but she hasn’t earned his respect and tells me I’m the only parental figure that has. I see this in how he behaves to, I’m the disciplinarian when it comes to Axton because he’s more likely to listen to me than his father.
A few days after I mentioned the idea, Axton said he was going to the game with me, even if that meant not spending Mother’s Day with his biological mom. Luckily, his mom and stepdad agreed that they shouldn’t force him to do an event with her over going with me, as he’d be happier with me.
Despite asking my kids multiple times, none wanted to come. My husband was working yesterday and my stepkids were with their mom, so it was just Axton and I.
It was a great day, Axton went with me to get a manicure, and even asked if he could have his fingernails done for the first time. We also shopped in some antique stores, and I told Axton he could get whatever he wanted. He ended up getting a few jerseys and buttons and reading cards. I also bought him stuff at the stadium.
When we got home, my kids and stepkids saw what Axton had got, they were jealous and asked why I would buy him so much and my 10 year old said he would’ve gone if he knew he could get gifts out of me. My daughter asked if I made him get the manicure and said manicures weren’t for boys, and he said he got it “because I wanted to, it looked cool”.
After that, we had a discussion with her and discussed her homophobia, but she started to argue with us about Axton and how he always is “rebellious” and she told us we should “punish him harder”, when he does act up, we asked for specific examples but she gave none. Axton certainly does act up and gets grounded, but never does anything morally wrong like bigotry. We told her she wasn’t being constructive in her criticism and to knock it off. They’re all still mad at me about the splurging on Axton, saying this proves “favoritism”, I asked for specific examples and my kids wouldn’t provide any, but said that we should “know what they mean”. AITA?

2024.05.13 19:59 StrangeQuarkCharm AIO for breaking up with my girlfriend after she went camping with 2 other men?

TL;DR Now out of state girlfriend went camping with two other guys and another girl for two days. I met one of the guys, definitely don’t trust him. Am I wrong for not wanting to be in the relationship anymore?
My girlfriend (22) and I (27) have been together for 2 years. When we first met, before we got in a relationship, she told me she wanted to move out of state. Her reasons were very valid however, I wasn’t looking to move yet since I have obligations to tend to for at least a couple more years.
The first year and a half were great. We had our ups and downs we went through a lot together, but boy did we form a bond as a resort! Now we have been long-distance for half a year and boy is it HARD! Ngl, it’s taking quite a toll on me however I LOVE this woman. I’ve seen her three times the past half a year each time for 3 to 4 days. I’m putting my ducks in a row in order to move there in about a year.
She lives there now and of course she has to make friends etc. She made some friends playing volleyball at the park. There’s this one particular guy Mike (24) who wants to be her mentor for the job she does. He’s legit however, when I first met him, he was almost caught off guard that she had a boyfriend. Something about how he said “oh cool” when she introduced us. Idk, their interaction together was weird. I never wanna be that kind of boyfriend so I shelved it in my mind and moved on.
Now she told me that she’s going camping with some volleyball people. Two guys and her one of them is Mike. She could see it on my face that I was uncomfortable with it but we got distracted with something else and didn’t talk about it. She came back a few days later and told me she convinced one of her girlfriends to come with her so each gonna sleep in their respective cars. It’s not about the camp, I’m just not liking this Mike guy. I can tell her that but I can’t tell her what to do or not to do. They’re back from camp now.
I’m honestly unhappy about this. Perhaps I’m jealous and frustrated because I can’t be there. These guys even paid for everything. Jet skis (she’s never been on a jet ski and we were gonna do that together), paddle boards, the boat they spent the whole day on. I know her financial situation so that’s how I know they paid for every thing.
Idk I feel like she probably wouldn’t like it if I did that with two other women. AIO for wanting to end the relationship?

2024.05.12 13:43 ad_396 the more i progress with life the more distracted i am

imagine life like an rpg video game, instead of developing my tech tree in a specific direction to become a mage, a tank... I'm spreading my skill points in all directions towards whatever looks cool. I'm studying CS, in the official debating team, part of the management team for the photography club, almost a member in the volleyball team...
I'm good at a shit ton of stuff, but not really good at one. there's always someone better than me in whatever I'm doing, if i actually channel my attention in one direction I'd beat them easily but I'm getting distracted too easily by whatever is shiny, spending a couple months developing that skill, then instead of continuing i just move onto the next shiny thing

2024.05.11 20:42 InsecureA50 50F can't get 48F to understand relationship boundaries?

First time post, so please forgive me if the format is horrible.
I (50M) have been dating my girlfriend (48F) for a year and a half. We were introduced on a dating app. Prior to meeting for the first time, the conversation was great. She was fairly new to dating and I had been miserable with all the broken or emotionally unavailable women who I kept meeting on the apps and would do a one and done dinner date most of the time with me wanting the check after 5 minutes. Names are changed for privacy, but lets call her Steph. Messaging with Steph was GREAT. I have had convos like this in the past though, and after meeting, decided that maybe their initial chats weren't genuine or they would say they didn't care about money and then go on for 2 hours of dinner about their upcoming vacay and how much it costs and they are helicoptering into the place and it's next to George Clooney's vacation residence...GET ME OUTTA THIS DATE! Important to note is that I would focus on only one person at a time and not talk to 10 or more people at a time. You won't see the needle if your constantly playing with the hay. So, I was optimistic with Steph, but not overly optimistic. During our initial messages I told her my life story, my likes, my dislikes, my past relationship traumas, and things that I worked on very hard from my last LTR that left me broken. Specifically, my last girlfriend (Susan) whom I lived with for about 18 mos. with about a 3 year relationship in total. We had history from high school but it was brief. I had more intense HS relationships but this one I always wondered how she was and where she ended up. Fast forward to when I was 45 and she was 43 she reached out and we reconnected. It was definitely intense, as I'd fantasized about just spending time with her over my lifetime up until she found me. There were definitely red flags that I chose to ignore (idiot!!). Before we even lived together, I became aware she was trying to make me jealous at times. I called her out and Susan's response was "Well, it would be flattering to me if you were a little bit jealous". That seemed wrong and cringy to me, but I told her I was SUPER secure and never had been jealous in my life and I would never be jealous. Well, she did prove me wrong. I don't believe that she wanted other men. I also don't believe that she wanted the attention or validation. I think she was a shy girl in high school and I was a player who took her virginity, but actually never played around or even wanted to while we were a young couple. Before and after her, I had streaks of being a bad boy. But with her or with other girls I would be in a relationship with, I took the relationship seriously. Just when I was single I was kind of a mix of party animal and ladies man. As our adult relationship developed, she liked to make it look like she was available to other men. She was fairly attractive and would get looks every time we went out. She would tell me how a coworker started messaging her at night when I was out of town on my many business trips and the conversation would last late into the night, but was innocent. Or how a dad of her daughters volleyball team would be sitting so close that other moms would make mention and he would say suggestive things that only Susan could hear at volleyball tournaments even though he had a girlfriend, but knew Susan was recently divorced. However, she would let me know she was nervous these innocent conversations could lead to more than just friendly. It upset me. Looking back, it was definitely her way to break me. It worked! I would ask her to engage and make it like she wasn't available. I did ask her to make her FB picture one of me and her...but the recent divorce made her hesitant as it would upset her kids because of the freshness of her divorce. I know that was the beginning of me becoming insecure. Asking someone to change their FB? Never been that guy, nor thought I ever would be. There were lots of other things going on as well, with lies and gaslighting. I requested we go to counseling to figure things out because it was during covid at this time, my older parents were terrified to have me over for a visit, much less give me a place to stay. I'm self employed and work was shut down, so I was hesitant to look for my own place. I just continued to put up with the abuse and became more and more broken. Our counselor told me I was no good to Susan or anyone the emotionally broken state I was in. I stayed in that relationship for another 9 months getting worse and worse. When I finally called it off in December of 2020 I was completely broken and never suffered after a break up like this. I could barely move for months and my head was just foggy all the time. I had moved back to the city my kids were at. Little by little, I healed and went to therapy for myself and realized that it wasn't the loss that hurt me so bad, it was the trauma that I allowed to be inflicted on my that made my pain during recovery so overwhelming. It took 5 or 6 months and I started slowly dating. But looking very intently for red flags and feeling zero guilt when quickly moving on from someone I didn't feel immediate chemistry with or see red flags at the beginning. So many broken people in their forties and fifties or people who haven't worked through their baggage from last or last several relationships. Everyone has baggage at this age, but you have to constantly work at unpacking it to lessen the load if you expect to have a healthy relationship. And you have to be choosy with the person you choose to pursue as a partner. When I started talking to Steph, I would tell her that we are all broken at this age, but finding someone who's jagged edges match up to your own jagged edges. The first time we met it was EXPLOSIVE for me. She was gorgeous and kind and I couldn't help myself as I put my hand on the small of her back the entire first date. We ended up Ubering first to her place and then me home. We made out in the Uber until she got embarrassed and made me stop. In the two years between Susan and Steph, I never kissed or touched anyone on the first date. I didn't want to send the wrong impression. I was looking for a love connection and didn't want anyone to mistake me as a man looking for a hookup or to play around. I wanted something serious. Steph and I immediately started going out alot. We really enjoyed each other. We introduced our kids (teens and adults) probably too soon, but we both knew this was going to last. We enjoyed anything with live music to include cover bands at a local dive bar or mainstream concerts to include almost every genre. Around six months, she was going to a big concert at an MLB stadium where tickets were purchased long before we even met. Luckily (or maybe not) a single ticket became available as well as a hotel reservation and Steph jumped all over it to have me as her date to this concert. Steph's long time good friends, Mike (50s M) and his wife Emily (50F) were there with Mike and Emily's neighbors, Josh (late 30s M) and his wife Jessica (late 30s F) were there as well. There were others in the group but were not with us at the end of the night. As the headliner was winding down, we were not in the stadium seats, but in a club area with round tables and chairs. Last call was a long time ago. We all had too much to drink. I left to go to the bathroom as as I walked up, I saw Josh pouring beer into Steph's empty cup. The cup had been empty for a while and Josh had a can still full of beer. I stood behind Steph and Josh. The music was loud and Josh's wife was up by the railing away from her husband and Mike and Emily were off to the right. I heard Josh tell Steph "I gave you some beer". Steph was just dancing a little and had a hat on with her head down just enjoying the music. Josh got louder and said "I gave you beer, you need to drink it". Steph still just ignored him. Josh now puts his arm around her, pulls her into him, and yells "I gave you some beer, you need to fucking drink it". I was kind of in shock a little. I didn't know anyone very well but Steph and I'd only met Josh once and he barely acknowledged Steph and didn't act like I existed. Now Josh puts Steph in a very aggressive headlock and in a very shrill and mean tone yells into her ear "I gave you some FUCKING beer and you better FUCKING drink it". At this, Steph pulls her head out, pushes Josh and turns to see me. She walks behind me to completely hide from Josh. I turned to her with my back to Josh and asked if she was OK. She stated she needed to go to the bathroom. We left for the bathroom and while we walked, she mumbled how alot of the time she's oblivious, but right now, she's not. She told me there had been a couple things in the past to include a comment by Josh's wife that made Steph feel something might be off. It sounded to me like Josh might have a crush on Steph and his wife was aware but not upset. I told her to stay by me and I'd keep her safe. When we got back from the bathroom the concert was over and Josh started yapping at Steph about drinking Fireball. Something about an old bet and she was going to drink a whole bottle that night and he had the bet on video and it was time to pay up. He started getting Mike into the mix and both were teasing (harassing) my girl about drinking fireball. Mike was completely unaware of what had transpired as the music was loud and he and his wife were off to the side. Mike was just having fun with his long time and good friend Steph. I didn't think Josh was just having fun. I was definitely seeing red and I knew Steph was wanting to get out of the situation. I told Josh to knock it off and Steph would not be having any fireball that night. He asked what I was going to do about it. I told him I would protect my girl if I needed to. Now he starts in about fighting and tells Mike that I want to fight them both. I'm much larger than both and in fairly good shape for a 50 year old. I wasn't scared of Josh, just pissed. As we headed to toward the stairwells of the stadium, Josh kept yelling how I wanted to fight him and Mike. Mike and his wife were ahead of us a little bit. Josh leaves his wife's side and comes toward us and spanks Steph on her ass. It was chaotic as you can imagine 35,000 drunk people heading out of the stadium all at once. In the stairwell, Steph and I had the lead with our party right behind us and about a million strangers all heading to the exits with us. Josh continued to harass me about wanting to fight him and Mike. Finally Josh's wife spoke up and told him to knock it off. She explained that I didn't say I wanted to fight anyone, but I would protect Steph if needed. We left for our hotel and they wen to a close by bar. Over the next several days, Steph and I discussed and fought how to address things. I knew that Mike and his wife were very close with Steph as well as Josh and his wife. I knew I would have to be around Josh again. Steph insisted that he was a good family man and just drunk and was choosing to just let it go. Steph also explained that Mike and Emily would be mortified if this was brought up. First off, Josh was at fault, not us. Their feelings shouldn't be negative toward me or Steph. Secondly, I'm a good family man and had alot to drink that night, but didn't touch any other women or assault them. Same with Mike. I only saw him holding his wife. I didn't want to confront Josh. I asked if we could sit down with Mike and Emily, explain what happened, so next time I'm forced to be around Josh, if he started acting up, Mike or Emily could be aware, and just tell Josh to leave Steph alone and she wouldn't be having fireball or whatever shit he might be talking on some future night. This way, I'm not in a position where I have to take action. Because I definitely want to get physical with this clown. Steph actually asked me to just ignore it and the next time we were around Josh, to just hope his behavior was better. This was ludicrous to me. I am the type of man that always wants to get ahead of situations. I hate being blind sided with anything. If we have a plan in place ahead of a potential problem, the likelihood of staying calm and having the best possible outcome is much greater. If we duck our heads and just hope, that's how things get messy and small problems get much larger. Steph and I are VERY different here. Although, I have seen Steph strive for peace and avoid conflict so much that she will avoid getting ahead of other issues in her life to try to prolong the time before the problem needs to be addressed. In one particular family instance I have seen a problem, that in my opinion, wasn't address and is currently out of control and probably not salvageable. We have discussed and fought mercilessly about this. Not always. Sometimes it wouldn't be a topic for a month or more and we would be proceeding with the best relationship I've ever had minus the above issues. In the last 2 months a couple of things have come up that are absolutely nothing with other men we have run into...an old high school acquaintance being one and a person whom is famous in our city that her girlfriends met and got pictures with but Steph was trying to tell me how he was an as to them that night. There was NOTHING with her old high school acquaintance. But the whole night I was seeing things that made me question her. My insecurities and triggers from my past are in full fling at this time. I'm taking non issues or small issues and making them into BIG issues. I am sabotaging this relationship. I don't want her going out of town on girls trips as I don't trust her to stop men from hitting on her hard or touching her. I can tell you that through my core I KNOW she would never cheat. I know she only wants me. I know that she would never want to lead another man on and she cares deeply for me. But I don't know where her boundaries or if they even exist with regards to a relationship. At this time, I completely lost my cool when she was trying to tell me the story about the local celebrity. I was way out of line. I know that I'm ruining us. But I need to have some closure with regards to Josh and know that Steph will have a plan that I'm aware of to not let men assault her or touch her inappropriately. We are not "together" as of 5 days ago. She can't be with a raging jealous lunatic. I can't be with someone who doesn't respect our relationship or my feelings enough to get out of her comfort zone and take action. Not every single time, but when it's egregious. That night with Josh was EGREGIOUS. I know we need professional help but I need my own help first. I'm to far off course currently. I reached out to a counselor this morning in hopes of an appointment soon that isn't for couples therapy. I am hopeful that we can get this right. But of all the fights we have had, she has expressed she understands my feelings and to her they are valid, but can't bring herself to take action. Ugh!!!!

2024.05.10 19:59 alehman74 I want to move, but now that the opportunity is becoming real I am somewhat scared

I (23M) have always lived in or around the DFW area, except the 4 years I went to college in Waco (1.5-2 hour drive). I am pretty well traveled, but haven't really lived anywhere else. I have an established and well paying job, but ever since graduating from college I have been struggling with isolation. My mom and older sister live in the area (but probably will eventually move also), but all of my friends are either younger and still in college or are an hour and a half away. I thought things would get better when my college roommate (and best friend) moved to the Dallas area as we moved in together, but if I am being honest it hasn't been much of an improvement.
For some context, he is student teaching now with terrible hours, and there hasn't been really any time at all for us to do things as he gets home around 8:30 every night and is too tired. Which is fine, but it doesn't help my isolation a lot, which isn't his problem or fault, just the situation kinda stinks. It also stinks because I know once the next school year starts, he is going to have to move anyways for his job, so I am already forced to find a new place to live.
Fast forward a few months and I go to a family wedding in Atlanta. I see my cousin (25F) who I am very close with since we are both openly queer, and have an awesome time. I mention my situation to her and she mentions that she is in need of a roommate as she is starting grad school in the city and thinks it would be really really fun to live together, and I actually really agree. Our personalities are really complimentary and things would be great, plus we would be able to hang out a lot. Plus her schedule would enable us to hang out a lot and she would be able to help me get connected to the city. Since then, I have visited a few times, and gotten to spend some time in the city and with her and it was really cool!
My job also has an office in the city, and there would be little to no friction to transfer, my salary wouldn't even change (and I make enough to definitely be comfortable with it). I literally just had a meeting today with the office lead in Atlanta and he said that they would love to have me go there as soon as possible since he wants to grow the Atlanta office's next group of leaders and thinks I have a ton of potential. I work in tech, so I have a lot of flexibility in where I work, which also makes it easier. I have visited the office recently and also already have (some) friends there. Also if I really want, I can attend some open gyms for volleyball and probably make some friends there.
Every single person I have talked to about this has told me to go for it, and been so encouraging. Including my current roommate, and my other friends. My time frame to move would be either in September or January as those would be the best times for my cousin's school schedule.
I have always said I wanted to experience somewhere else, but now things are all lining up for me and its a little bit scary. I called my mom and she said "Don't do what I do, get out there and experience life". If I don't like it I know I can always come back without any friction either (work or family related).
The more and more I think about it the more I feel like I should take the opportunity, but I haven't lived anywhere else in my life really and its a little bit scary. Any advice on dealing with this situation, or building a new life in a new city, or thoughts that it could be a bad idea to take this opportunity would be really appreciated.
EDIT: My sister is moving to Virginia next year, and my mom will be moving somewhere, not sure yet, after her parents pass. My older brother lives in Nebraska, so she would move closer to one of us probably. So staying here won’t really help me be closer with family for too long.

2024.05.10 01:33 CountLivin My Fantasy Survivor Themes

Since Season 40, a common bit of contention in the Survivor fandom has been the fact that Survivor doesn’t use season themes anymore. Jeff has gone on the record saying that season themes started to get stretched a little thin after settling in Fiji, and after the pandemic, he wanted to free the show of the burden of needing themes for each season. I, for one, have always thought that season themes were a very fun addition to the show, and I think they should bring them back, probably after season 50.
But I figured I’d try to put my money where my mouth is. Jeff and the production team were having trouble coming up with themes that had a catchy title and could persist from the beginning to the end of the season. I sat down this afternoon and tried to brainstorm some season themes I would try to implement if I were on the production team.
People commonly suggest themes like Legends, First Boots, Old School vs. New School, and Back to Basics, and while I would love to see those themes, I tried to come up with unique themes I haven’t seen floating around before. These are themes which could apply to newbie seasons with a few notable exceptions.
Here’s what I came up with, ordered as the seasons I see production most likely to implement to the least likely. But I think each of them would have interesting twists that would be fun to watch.
  1. Survivor: Guts vs. Gamers vs. Gremlins
So I had to indulge myself and include at least one three tribe vs. format similar to HHH. This would be an altered version of brains vs. brawn vs. beauty, another popular theme. The equivalent of the brains tribe would be the Gamers, who are focused more on being geeks and nerds rather than being generally smart. The equivalent of the brawn tribe would be the Guts, being composed of athletes, daredevils, and others with dangerous careers like oil rig workers and climbers. Lastly, the equivalent of the beauty tribe would be the Gremlins. Instead of being a bunch of models, the Gremlins would emphasize the social aspect of the game by being comedians, pranksters, and other people that production thinks would be funny to interact with each other.
I think this is a believable theme as Survivor has set a precedent for doing similar seasons in the past. I also think each tribe would be interesting to watch as the interpersonal dynamics and playstyle would be very different on each tribe.
  1. Survivor: Lawmen vs. Outlaws
In Survivor: Pearl Islands, they explored the theme of pirates with the Drake and Morgan tribes being named after famous pirates of history and the sabotage rewards. In a similar vein, I’d like to see a Wild West themed season with tribes called Earp and Cassidy. Of course, it doesn’t fit as well as pirates in Pearl Islands cause there were never cowboys in Fiji, but hey 44 had a half-baked medieval fantasy theme, so why not?
The lawmen tribe would consist not just of police officers, obviously, but of natural leaders and people that tend to value honor and camaraderie. The outlaw tribe would be made of people who don’t seem to fit in, or would cause chaos on the island. For a feel good story, I can definitely see production wanting to put some people on the outlaw tribe who have been to prison and have turned their life around afterward (obviously nobody that’s done anything too egregious). If this is a returnee season, this would be a fantastic place for Richard Hatch to finally return.
For a twist in this season, I think it would be cool to bring back the Survivor auction in a big way, by allowing the cast to earn money during rewards to save up for the auction they know is coming late in the season. This money could come from rewards or from finding it in caches around the camp.
Also, Jeff needs to wear his cowboy hat the whole season.
  1. Survivor: One World 2
Okay, so I know it seems like I’m just taking old seasons and bringing them back with new twists, and I promise I have more original concepts later. But my idea for One World 2 actually started out as something completely separate, but the title of One World fit so well that I just had to include it.
I would love to see a full international season. As it is, Survivor can only cast people with US or Canadian citizenship and a passport, but they’ve casted a few immigrants. My proposal is to bring an all newbie cast entirely made of US immigrants, each one from a different country around the world, preferably people who were raised in their home country. The season would become an incredible mixing pot of different cultures, and of course you can include the original twist of One World with everyone starting on the same beach.
  1. Survivor: Nowhere to Hide
Here’s my first spicy season. The previous three seasons are ones I can see production considering and from now on, these are fantasy seasons I would love but are unlikely to ever happen. Survivor: Nowhere to Hide is focused around one major twist. You cannot earn immunity for yourself. When you play an immunity idol, you cannot play it for yourself. When you win an immunity necklace, you have to give it to someone else. During the premerge, the immunity challenges would need to be kept the same, but the twist could still be involved with there being a few more idols hidden around camp than there would normally be.
I think this would add an interesting dynamic to the game, though it would definitely need to be contained to this one season.
  1. Survivor: World Cup
Was Survivor acquired by ESPN? No, it’s just that the theme this season is sports. A cast of newbies is assembled, each with a background in some sport or other athletic venture. Each immunity and reward challenge is just the cast playing through a game of different sports. During the pre-merge they would play team sports like basketball, kickball, and sand volleyball, and after the merge, they would move on to individual games like tennis, golf, and archery.
Out of all celebrities who have played Survivor, most seem to be athletes, so in a cast comprised entirely of athletes, I think that they would have a shot to go farther than they usually do.
  1. Survivor: Checkmate
Whereas the previous theme was a cast comprised of only the most athletic individuals, the cast of Survivor: Checkmate would be only the most intelligent that production could muster. This would be a fantastic season to have a returnee cast, but would also work with newbies.
In a game of chess, there is no luck involved, only strategy. You begin each game knowing exactly what it takes to win, and you have to beat your opponent in a battle of wits to get there. To mimic this in a game of Survivor, all tribes would start with an in-depth roadmap to all the twists, tribe swaps, and advantages in the season, as well as how many idols and advantages are hidden at each beach. Certain secrets could still be kept to keep the viewing experience exciting, such as the nature of each summit, what a potential beware advantage contains, and where idols are hidden, but for the most part, all players should start the game knowing how the game will look from Day 1 to Day 26. This may take a bit of the flair from each twist since the audience knows it’s coming, but I believe this theme will bring a level of strategy to the game that the show has never seen before.
  1. Survivor: Old Dogs vs. New Tricks
Two previous survivor themes that were interesting but had flaws were Fans vs. Favorites and the old vs. young theme of Nicaragua. The latter theme didn’t work out well and they scrapped it almost immediately, whereas fans vs. favorites is fun, but it leads to the fans getting steamrolled most of the time. What if we were to combine these two themes? A fans vs. favorites season with a tribe of old returnees vs. young newbies? The weaknesses of both themes could potentially counter each other.
  1. Survivor: Island of Dreams
The last three themes are ones I’m fairly confident would never come to pass, but I just think would be really cool. In Survivor: Cambodia, production allowed the public to have a vote on who the cast would be. In Survivor: Island of Dreams, what if the community had the option of voting on everything ELSE involved in a Survivor season?
After a cast of newbies is flown out to Fiji, production allows the public to vote on which advantages and twists will be in the game, which reward and immunity challenges they will face from a preset list, and what each reward will be. They could even accept write-in advantages and rewards to be added to the vote with production’s screening. I think it would be huge for the community to be able to create the perfect season.
Since the season would be called Island of Dreams, there could also be heavy theming on nighttime challenges. Also, the summits could be flavored as dreams, and production could have them leave camp in the middle of the night rather than after challenges.
Also, Dreamz is back.
  1. Survivor: Knowledge is Power
The Knowledge Is Power advantage has been a controversial one, but it did have a catchy name. If they retire the advantage, let’s see them return it in a season of its own theme.
Survivor: Knowledge is Power will be a complicated season. There are no hidden immunity idols, and there are no advantages, beware or otherwise. In their place are “tomes” and “totems.” Here’s how they work. At the beginning of the season after the initial reward challenge, all 20 players get to choose a totem: a small talisman with the likeness of an animal like a bull, a frog, or a crab. Jeff tells the cast that each of these totems carries a different advantage, but in order to learn what they do, they need to find clues in the form of tomes. Tomes would be leather-bound journals hidden where normal advantages and idols would be, and inside each are two or three clues of what some of the totems do. Tomes could also be won at reward challenges throughout the season.
Each totem can be played in the voting chamber, nullifying your vote similar to the shot in the dark. After you play your totem, you gain a scroll advantage that you are able to play when Jeff asks for advantage plays. Some totem effects could include:
So there are 20 totems, and it’s probably too cumbersome to make 20 separate advantages for each totem, but you could have two copies of each totem for a total of 10 unique totem effects. This accentuates the knowledge is Power theme in that once one totem has been played, the holder of that totem’s twin now knows what their own advantage is.
This, I believe would be a fun counter to the common suggestion for a season where every player starts the game with an idol.
  1. Survivor: Storm of Secrets
So I know this season is never happening, but I just decided to go all out on a fantasy season that throws all rules to the wind. By the end of my brainstorming, I ended up with a season that is basically a completely different show, but whatever, I think it would be fun. And how fitting is it that the most chaotic and hectic season would be one where its abbreviation is SOS. Hang with me here.
In Survivor: Storm of Secrets, Jeff would open the season with an explanation of the rules for the audience from what looks like the confines of a cabin, and he’ll start throwing out Jeffisms about how this is the most unorthodox season Survivor has ever seen. 20 returning players arrive in Fiji and are divided into two tribes on mats. Signs denote the tribe names as Devant and Houdini. The theme of this season is illusions, puzzles, and smoke and mirrors.
Upon the cast’s arrival, they realize Jeff is not there to announce their entrance. As confusion unfolds, players will eventually start to wander off the mats, potentially asking the camera crew if something is going wrong. Before they wander too far from the area, a group of five black-robed masked figures called Secret Keepers appear wordlessly on the beach, one of them carrying a speaker. Blaring from the speaker is the voice of Jeff, who then explains the rules to the survivors.
Jeff Probst is hidden somewhere on the island. Throughout the season, the survivors need to explore and collect clues they find to uncover the secret of what happened to Jeff. Escape room puzzles are littered throughout the campgrounds, some containing riddles, some containing keys, some containing the answers to the puzzles they’ll find later in the game.
During the challenges, Jeff is not present. The Secret Keepers escort the players to the challenge sites where they will learn the rules from a set of written directions as well as a walkthrough from a recorded memo from Jeff. From his secret cabin, Jeff will also walk the audience through the challenge’s rules. For the first time since Survivor: Africa, Jeff will not be narrating a play-by-play of the challenges, which I believe will add an air of mystery to them. The Secret Keepers will announce when a player has won immunity, and present the immunity talisman or necklace to the winners.
During tribal council, Jeff will also not be present, but he will arrive with a live feed to his secret cabin. He will have a short conversation with the tribe like he normally does, except from the other side of a screen. But when it comes time to vote, something is different. Instead of the normal routine, the tribe themselves get to decide how someone will leave the game. The only rule is that at the end of an hour, one player needs to leave the game, and the decision must be majority. They can vote like normal, they can have a live vote, or they can play a game to decide the person who goes home.
After the second tribal council and the two tribes have gotten to know each other, the game changes. After a reward challenge, survivors learn that there are actually six beaches, not just two. Each survivor can choose which beach to go to spend the next two days, and each beach contains new clues and puzzles that must be solved to find Jeff. The tribes can be split up from here to cover more ground, and members from both tribes can go to the same beach. If they want, both tribes can even send all members to one beach, though they haven’t merged. Over the course of the pre-merge, the tribes need to search all six beaches to find enough clues to get farther in the game. Tribes will be able to strategize and exchange information when they meet up before and after immunity challenges.
Once the players reach the merge, the seventh and final beach is revealed. The area of this camp is gigantic, spanning multiple miles, and Jeff’s cabin is located somewhere here. If enough pre-merge puzzles have been solved, players can assemble their clues to go looking for Jeff on the seventh beach.
Once Jeff is finally found, he will give the player who found him three immunity idols, an unprecedented reward in survivor history. If multiple survivors find Jeff at the same time, they will have to compete in a duel Redemption Island style to earn the three immunity idols.
If everything goes according to plan, there should still be a couple votes left before the finale. Once the hunt for Jeff is complete, he will return to the challenges and to tribal council where everything will go forward as normal until we’ve found our Sole Survivor.
  1. Survivor: Conclusion
So I went off the rails with that last one, I know, but I had fun coming up with it okay. What do you guys think of my fantasy seasons? Would you want to watch them? What other sorts of season themes would you like to see going forward?
