2024.05.08 04:16 Solid-Intention3709 Brampton is done for

Was born and raised in Brampton, to an Indian household, my parents came here in the 80s, assimilated well, and created a Canadian family that’s as patriotic as one can be. Got to live in a diverse neighbourhood, play hockey locally, work in the city, get a degree, but now I have until September and I’m gone forever. I’m pursuing a law degree way outside of the GTA, will get my degree and never return to this city. It’s become unrecognizable. Nobody speaks a lick of English, cars revving their engines 24/7, people with horrible social cues and general lack of decency. It’s horrific, everyday I dread going out, seeing the shit that I see. I don’t see a single person who hasn’t come straight from India in the past 8 years. These people are from “the same community” as me. But I’ve grown to despise my cultural identity because they’ve taken it and run it into the ground. I can assure you the Punjabi/Indian community that has come post Harpe Trudeau reign is a community that will never assimilate, is racist towards any community other than theirs and genuinely want to create an India/Punjab within Canada. Its disgusting. I’m tired of being looped in with them cause I hate them more than any of you can imagine. They’ve taken the neighbourhood, house and life that my parents and I worked so hard on and sullied it beyond recognition. These people are not educated and are easily manipulated, as soon as they start to become permanent residents and citizens, we’re doomed. It’s already happening, my law degree will take me down south to the states, but I pray for the Canadians and children being replaced as a whole by this demographic. I have no idea how we can constitutionally and legally deport the millions of them now, it’s beyond repair.

2024.05.08 02:26 RisingChaos Electimuss Discovery Selection Box review

Alas, back to work. Good thing I got this finished before then!
Who is Electimuss? A British niche house, "founded in 2015 by Luke Granger and Jason Collison" according to their webpage despite their earliest releases actually being in 2013. Electimuss means “to choose the best” in Latin and is inspired by the epic tales of Ancient Rome, hence the columnar bottles I guess. They claim "obsession for creativity, quality and the quest for the best," supported by all their fragrances being 25-30% Pure Parfum/Extrait releases. At relatively low prices relative to other high-end niche houses, at least from discounters!
Another fairly new British house, like Thameen. This is a review of the 20pc Discovery Selection Box, which is not their full catalog. The set changes periodically to add in new releases while dispensing with some of the less popular old ones. Since I bought mine used quite a while back, some of my samples aren't in the current iteration of the DSB. Pretty nice box, though, with sample sprayers that consistently work.
In alphabetical order, because that's how they were ordered in the box:
Amber Aquilaria (Cinnamon, Peach, Mandarin orange, Bergamot; Cognac, Geranium, Jasmine, Rose, Neroli; Ambergris, Oud, Bourbon vanilla)
A very strange smell that I'm not even sure how much I really like it, yet it commands my interest.
Aurora (Oud, Cardamom, Saffron, Cloves; Rose, Patchouli, Sandalwood; White musk, Ambergris)
Has an almost aldehydic sparkle to it.
Auster (Star anise, Lemon; Geranium, Cloves; Ambergris, Cedar, Patchouli, Musk, Sandalwood)
The smell of fresh lacquer with the roughness of unfinished wood, sorta.
Black Caviar (Caviar, Cedar, Oud; Lavender, Sage, Rosemary; Patchouli, Oakmoss, Vetiver)
The opening is a harsh, vinegary mistress but thankfully that fades after a few minutes. Obviously not a favorite, but a friend did compliment me on it.
Capua (Cypress, Elemi, Marigold, Bergamot; Cypriol, Cedar, Cumin; Amber, Cashmeran, Cedar, Vetiver)
Where Auster smells like the process of crafting wooden furniture, this is more like the raw freshness of the outdoors. And a lot of smoke, at least initially.
Celestial (Saffron, Black pepper, Raspberry; Bulgarian rose, Indian rose absolute, Frankincense, Pink pepper; Tonka bean, Cedar, Guaiacwood)
If anything, the raspberry might actually be more noticeable in the drydown. Bright, candied, kinda gives it a musky/powdery texture as a skin scent.
Imperium (Bergamot, Coriander; Tuberose, Lily, Rose, Jasmine, Neroli, Saffron; Bourbon vanilla, Musk, Patchouli, Amber, Guaiacwood, Oud)
One of my faves in the "inspired by Aventus" space. I tried this back in the day looking for vanilla gourmands... not a gourmand, but quite excellent in its own right. Like Aventus if you replaced the smoke with more vanilla. Less screechy than Hacivat.
Jupiter (Labdanum, Davana, Oud, Saffron, Incense; Cedar, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetiver; Ambrette, Musk, Oud, Ambergris, Tonka bean, Vanilla)
Soft & sweet, a bit of a shapeshifter as it dries down. The ambrette swaps in and out of a dominant position in the mid, and it becomes a very dry leathery wood skin scent.
Mercurial Cashmere (Pink pepper, Cardamom, Bergamot; Tuberose, Violet, Iris, Ambergris; Caramel, Musk, Cashmeran, Tonka bean, Vanilla, Oud, Cedar)
The opening is extremely aggressive, thankfully I like the scent well enough to not be so bothered. Vanillic cedar as a skin scent.
Octavian (Pink pepper, Saffron; Taif rose, Attar of roses, Frankincense; Oud, Amber)
A rose-oud-saffron by any other name...
Patchouli of the Underworld (Labdanum, Black pepper, Pink pepper, Mandarin orange; Patchouli, Leather, Carnation; Styrax, Castoreum, Labdanum)
Not as challenging as the note breakdown looks, but also the patchouli is surprisingly minimized here.
Persephone's Patchouli (Cardamom, Plum, Pomegranate; Patchouli, Jasmine, Rose; Honey, Sandalwood, Ambergris, Cedar)
This is much more patchouli-heavy than Underworld off the bat, although it somewhat fades in and out.
Pomona Vitalis (Lychee, Apple, Strawberry, Bergamot; Bulgarian rose, Rose absolute; Patchouli, Vanilla, Benzoin, Sandalwood, Styrax)
You know how cinnamon doesn't dissolve in water and just kinda floats on top? That's this fragrance. A bowl of water, with a finely powdered rose dusted across the surface. It's not bad but they never quite meld.
Puritas (Elemi, Pink pepper, Absinthe, Saffron; Frankincense, Rose, Tuberose absolute, Geranium, Ylang-ylang, Jasmine; Labdanum, Patchouli, Tonka bean, Guaiacwood, Vetiver, Amber)
Here's one for you "church smell" people if you can get past the opening.
Rhodanthe (Bergamot, Lemon, Pear, Cloves; Saffron, Violet, Raspberry, Black tea, Rose, Pink pepper; Oud, Amber, Cedar, Musk, Vanilla, Patchouli)
Another rose-oud-saffron scent on paper, but they're minor players here covered by a veneer of bright, fresh fruits.
Silvanus (Saffron, Oud, Cloves; Sandalwood, Cedar, Lily-of-the-valley, Rosewood; Ambergris, White musk)
Not dissimilar to that neutral, clean musky smell of "unscented" laundry products where they simply combine fragrances into a sort of null scent.
Summanus (Cardamom, Bergamot, Orange, Black pepper, Ginger, Pine, Elemi; Rose, Jasmine absolute, Amyris, Amber, Cognac; Sandalwood, Cedar, Cypriol, Guaiacwood, Tonka bean)
Not too sweet, not too heavy, no single element stands out. A well-balanced, and fairly linear, composition.
Trajan (Mandarin orange, Blood orange, Lemon, Bergamot; Lavender, Sage, Saffron; Cedar, Oakmoss, Ambergris)
The citruses lend a slight orangey flavor that is more interesting than the raw sugary sweetness of BR540, but Trajan doesn't have quite the same ethereal charm.
Vici Leather (Cinnamon, Wormwood, Pink pepper; Sweet leather accord, Tuberose, Amber, Balsamic notes)
A unique ambery leather scent that, to my nose, isn't as aggressively animalic as a lot of other reviews claim. I find it quite pleasant and genteel.
Vixere (Mandarin orange, Bergamot, Neroli, Grapefruit, Ylang-ylang; Violet, Jasmine, Iris, Gardenia, Heliotrope; Sandalwood, Patchouli, Musk, Tonka bean, Vanilla, Amber)
Others compare it to Reflection Man, but that's much more of a white floral-centric scent whereas Vixere has lots of ylang and violet. The bright vanillic drydown reminds me of Imperium.
Summary:
Strong showing on the back end! Nice normal scoring curve overall. Mostly solid performances, great price at discounters, some bangers. A couple glorified clones but also a couple wholly unique scents. I'm a fan of Electimuss. Good showing for one of these newer "premium" niche houses otherwise lacking identity.
Next up? I enter my /indiemakeupandmore phase! 🧙‍♀️

2024.05.08 00:58 Sea-Welder46 Can anyone give me feeedback or help me write my DBQ?

I have this so far:
Thesis:
Evolving definitions of United States citizenship from 1865 to 1920 were characterized by advocacy for inclusivity, legal establishment of birthright citizenship, and persistent challenges to broader inclusion.
Bucket 1: Advocacy for Inclusive Citizenship
In post-Civil War America, advocates like Sojourner Truth ("Document 1") and W. E. B. Du Bois ("Document 5") pushed for broader inclusion in citizenship discussions, emphasizing the need for equal rights and active resistance against discrimination. The poster promoting "National Americanization Day" circa 1915-1919 suggests efforts to assimilate immigrants into American culture and values as a path to citizenship ("Document 7"), indicating potential limitations on citizenship based on cultural conformity and assimilation.
Bucket 2: Legal Definitions and Birthright Citizenship
Legal developments such as the United States Supreme Court rulings in United States v. Wong Kim Ark ("Document 3") and legislative actions like the Jones-Shafroth Act ("Document 6") expanded the scope of citizenship, establishing birthright citizenship and extending it to new territories. The Jones-Shafroth Act of 1917 declares citizens of Puerto Rico as citizens of the United States, outlining their rights and obligations under U.S. law, illustrating legal efforts to extend citizenship to new territories and populations.
Bucket 3: Challenges to Inclusive Citizenship
Despite legal advancements, challenges persisted, as seen in debates over citizenship rights for residents of annexed territories and efforts to assimilate immigrants into American culture, potentially limiting citizenship based on cultural conformity. The Commissioner of Indian Affairs annual report from 1887 emphasizes the importance of educating and assimilating Native Americans into American society ("Document 2"), suggesting challenges to inclusion in citizenship through cultural assimilation. The United States Supreme Court ruling in Downes v. Bidwell (1901) discusses debates over citizenship rights for residents of annexed territories, highlighting challenges to expanding citizenship in diverse regions ("Document 4").
Therefore, while strides were made towards inclusive citizenship through advocacy and legal reforms, persistent challenges and debates underscored the complexities of defining citizenship in a rapidly changing society.

United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights: A/HRC/55/73: Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 - Advance unedited version ["After five months of military operations, Israel has destroyed Gaza. Over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 13,000 children. Over 12,000 are presumed dead and 71,000 injured, many with life-changing mutilations. Seventy percent of residential areas have been destroyed. Eighty percent of the whole population has been forcibly displaced. Thousands of families have lost loved ones or have been wiped out. Many could not bury and mourn their relatives, forced instead to leave their bodies decomposing in homes, in the street or under the rubble. Thousands have been detained and systematically subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment. The incalculable collective trauma will be experienced for generations to come. By analysing the patterns of violence and Israel’s policies in its onslaught on Gaza, this report concludes that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating Israel’s commission of genocide is met. One of the key findings is that Israel's executive and military leadership and soldiers have intentionally distorted jus in bello principles, subverting their protective functions, in an attempt to legitimize genocidal violence against the Palestinian people."] (March 25, 2024): https://www.ohchr.org/en/documents/country-reports/ahrc5573-report-special-rapporteur-situation-human-rights-palestinian

Abstract
This study explores men’s motivation and justification to remain married to their criminal, imprisoned wives. Using semistructured interviews and content-analysis, data were collected and analyzed from eight men who maintain stable marriage relationships with their incarcerated wives. Participants are normative men who describe incarceration as a challenge that enhances mutual responsibility and commitment. They exaggerate the extent to which their partners resemble archetypal romantic ideals. They use motivational accounts to explain the woman’s criminal conduct, which is perceived as nonrelevant to her real identity. Physical separation and lack of physical intimacy are perceived as the major difficulties in maintaining their marriage relations. Length of imprisonment and marriage was found to be related to the decision whether to continue or terminate the relationships. Women-inmates’ partners experience difficulties and use coping strategies very similar to those cited by other normative spouses facing lengthy separation.

Introduction
One of the most significant “pains of imprisonment” for female inmates is the separation from their husbands (Farkas & Rand, 1999; Severance, 2005a, 2005b). This disconcerting and frustrating deprivation often negatively affects women’s ability to function as wives while in prison and after release (Dodge & Pogrebin, 2001; Pollock-Byrne, 1990). When a man is imprisoned, the marriage usually remains intact (Dodge & Pogrebin, 2001; Shapiro, 2003; Travis, McBride, & Solomon, 2003), whereas women’s incarceration often results in their abandonment by their partners and termination of their marriage (the term marriage in this study relates to formally wedded couples and common-law couples; Hairston, 1991; Sergin & Flora, 2005).
The abandonment of women prisoners by their spouses has been recognized by researchers and practitioners as a noteworthy component of women-inmates’ subculture (Dodge & Pogrebin, 2001) and a significant factor of their rehabilitation and reentry into society (Visher & Travis, 2003). However, relatively few studies have addressed this topic in depth (Dodge & Pogrebin, 2001; MacKenzie, Robinson, & Campbell, 1995; Sobel, 1982). Furthermore, close examination reveals that prisoners’ marital relationships were addressed mainly from the inmates’ point of view (Girshick, 1996; Hairston & Addams, 2001) and focused, almost exclusively, on male inmates (Accordino & Guerney, 1998; Fishman, 1988; Girshick, 1992). In other words, the study of marital relationships between inmates and their spouses’ neglected women inmates, and the few studies examining female inmates overlooked 50% of the individuals involved in these relationships and possibly affected by them—the husbands.
Thus, in the preliminary research for this paper, we could not find a single empirical study that had focused on the rationale behind men’s decision to terminate or maintain their marital relations with incarcerated wives nor on the impact of such a decision on their emotional and behavioral state. The aim of this exploratory study is to fill this literature lacuna and explore the motivations and justification of men to remain married to their criminal wives imprisoned in Neve Tirza prison—the sole prison facility for women in Israel. By examining these topics, the current study seeks to identify and analyze the significance of marital relationships to women-inmates’ spouses and to describe the dynamics of marital relationships between men and incarcerated spouses, both from men’s perspective, a step that previous research has not taken before.
The following sections will provide information about Neve Tirza prison as well as cover topics relating to marital stability among inmates and offender reentry, drawing on the criminological and correctional literatures.
The Neve Tirza Prison
Neve Tirza prison is the sole women’s prison in Israel. The facility is located in the Central District of Israel, next to the city of Ramla in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area, the largest metropolitan in Israel. The prison houses 225 criminal (as opposed to security) inmates at full capacity. Yet, at the time of the research, it housed no more than 180 prisoners. Fifty-two percent of the inmates have been previously jailed, and the average incarceration period is 2.7 years (SD = 2.70). Approximately, 58% of the prison population are incarcerated for drug-related crimes (substance abuse, drug dealing, and possession), 16% are incarcerated for violent crimes, 16% for bodily crimes, 45% for fiscal crimes, and 13% for other offences (Einat & Chen, 2012).1
The ethnic ratio of the prison population is 62% Jews and 36% Arabs, who are Israeli nationals, and 2% foreigners. The marital status of the inmates is 63% single (n = 113), 32% (n = 58) divorced, and 5% (n = 9) married (Einat & Chen, 2012)— comparable, albeit not identical, to U.S. and U.K. prisons. In U.S. prisons, 85% of all women in local jails (4% widowed, 13% separated, 20% divorced, 48% never married), 83% in state prisons (6% widowed, 10% separated, 20% divorced, 47% never married), and 71% in federal prisons (6% widowed, 21% separated, 10% divorced, 34% never married) are not married (Greenfeld, & Snell, 2000). In U.K. prisons, 24% of women-inmates are married or lived together with a spouse prior to their imprisonment, 63% are single, and 12% are either widowed, divorced, or separated (Hamlin & Lewis, 2000).
In Israel, 85% of the women-inmates are eligible for a monthly 30-min family visit and a 24/48-hr furlough. Fifteen percent of the prisoners, who are ineligible for home furloughs, are entitled to a monthly, 12-hr conjugal visit (Ben Avraham, 2012). Such furlough/visitation policy differs significantly from other parallel policies in Western and non-Western correctional facilities (for a comprehensive review, see Einat & Rabinovitz, 2013).
Incarceration, Marital Stability, and Inmates’ Reentry
Incarceration prevents meaningful interaction and limits physical and emotional connections among spouses (Booth, Johnson, White, & Edwards, 1984; Sergin & Flora, 2005), and often changes individuals in ways that make them incompatible with their partners (Comfort, 2008; Nurse, 2002; Rindfuss & Stephen, 1990). Physically separated spouses experience deficits of emotional interaction (Hill, 1988), which increases the number of disagreements and lowers marital satisfaction (Booth et al., 1984). In addition, these physical and mental processes negatively affect the emotional status of the inmates inside the prison (Faith, 1993; Jiang & Winfree, 2006; Thompson & Loper, 2005) and harm the likelihood of their successful rehabilitation and reentry into society after release (Gunnison & Helfgott, 2013; Horney, Osgood, & Marshall, 1995; Laub, Nagin, & Sampson, 1998; Vaillant, 1995; Ward, 2001). Ironically, and irrespective of the negative impact of incarceration and separation from spouse on marital stability (Massoglia, Remster, & King, 2011) and of imprisonment and marital dissolution on prisoner reentry (Laub & Sampson, 2001), several enforcement systems raise various barriers that prevent partners (and families) from remaining in contact while a spouse is behind bars. For example, in the United States, more than 60% of state and 80% of federal inmates are imprisoned in facilities located more than 100 miles from home (Mumola, 2000). Wives (as well as other family members) may lack the time and means to travel these long distances with children on a regular basis (Christian, 2005; Christian, Mellow, & Thomas, 2006). Consequently, 57% of male state-prison inmates in the United States had never had a personal visit with their children since their admission to prison and only a quarter of male inmates with families reported weekly contact by phone or postal mail with loved ones (Mumola, 2000). Pelka Slugocka and Slugocki (1980) qualitatively analyzed female inmates’ viewpoints regarding the relationship between incarceration and marital stability. Most of their research participants (86.3%, n = 282) maintained that imprisonment was the sole reason for the destruction of their marriage, whereas 13.7% (n = 45) asserted that it was the combination of husbands’ personalities and their imprisonment. Moreover, the research revealed that the divorce generated feelings of despair and frustration among the female inmates, and harmed their rehabilitation and successful reentry into society.
Hairston’s (1991) review concluded that the stress and strain that male imprisonment imposes on family ties are due, mainly, to denial of sexual relations and inability to engage in and share day-to-day interactions and experiences. As time passes, the spouse at home visits the prisoner less frequently and many marriages fail. Similarly, Kiser (1991) found that most male prisoners perceived their separation from their families—alongside the realization that they themselves had brought undeserved hardship to their families—as the most difficult aspect of doing time. Therefore, encouraging inmates and families to maintain relationships would benefit most inmates, their families, and the prisons.
Bobbitt and Nelson (2004) portrayed the positive aspects of various family involvement programs (i.e., La Bodega de la Familia and the Greenlight Family Reintegration Program) on drug abuse, recidivism rates, family strength, avoidance of illegal activity, possession of jobs, and obtainment of stable housing. The researchers’ main conclusion was that families can be a powerful material and emotional force for positive change for members making the difficult transition from institutional life back to the community . . . and can significantly assist probation and parole officers in their quest to successfully reenter ex-criminals and ex-prisoners to the community. (Bobbitt & Nelson, 2004, p. 8) In support of that conclusion, Horney et al. (1995) found that living with a normative wife limited significantly convicted felons’ involvement in illegal behavior after release from prison.
The importance of marriage to recidivism rates and reentry was discussed in several cornerstone criminal theories. Hirschi’s (1969) social control theory assumes that individuals are prevented from engaging in delinquency by four social bonds: involvement, attachment, commitment, and belief. When these bonds are weak, and the appropriate motivations rise, individuals are more likely to engage in delinquency.
Individuals with high affection and respect (attachment) are less likely to engage in delinquency because they do not want to harm the approval of people they care about. In their age-graded theory of informal social control, Laub and Sampson (1993) emphasize the importance of quality and strength of current social ties (such as strong bonds of attachment to a partner) in adapting to life transitions more than the occurrence or timing of discrete life events. Hence, marriage by itself may not increase social control, but close emotional ties and mutual investment increase the social bond between individuals and can decrease criminal behavior. Although this issue has been a source of controversy (e.g., Gottfredson & Hirschi, 1990), Farrington and West (1995) also concluded that a stable marriage was nevertheless related to adult social conformity, even in adults who were identified at high-risk as children. Whereas these theories emphasize emotional ties and support, the cognitive transformation theory focuses on the conscious transformation of one’s identity in the process of desistance from crime (Giordano, Cernkovich, & Rudolph, 2002). Thus, through associations
with a spouse who sees them as noncriminals, inmates are exposed to and receive reinforcement for socially approved attitudes and behaviors (Agnew, 2005) and are likely to receive support for not only avoiding illegal behavior but also developing normative self-perceptions.
In summary, identification of various problems faced by men married to incarcerated spouses with regard to the preservation of marital relationships may significantly promote the understanding of the impact of incarceration on marital continuation/dissolution and assist in developing effective policies directed at their maintenance. Such policies appear to be highly important due to the existence of a (correlative or casual) link between continuation of stable romantic relations among normative men and incarcerated spouses, reduction of the negative effects of various “pains of imprisonment” (Faith, 1993; Jiang & Winfree, 2006; Thompson & Loper, 2005), and inmates’ successful reentry and desistance from crime after release (Horney et al., 1995; Ward, 2001)
Method
Research Tool
We used a flexible research design (Briggs, 1986). This methodology enables access to unpredicted subject matter and helps examine it from the perspective of the research sample (Silverman, 1993). Flexible design enabled us to incorporate unexpected contents, accommodating data as they emerged, thereby enhancing the quality and authenticity of the findings (Stake, 1995). The qualitative semistructured interview, based on guidelines that ensure that all interviewees are subject to similar stimuli and create a common basis for data analysis (Maruna, 2001), was found most appropriate for this study. To ensure reliability, all interviews were conducted by the researchers only.
While the semistructured interview maintains a subjective framework, it enables the interviewer and the interviewee to correct misunderstandings or vagueness during the course of the interview (Rubin & Rubin, 1995). This flexibility contributes to the quality and credibility of the interview (Briggs, 1986; Suchman & Jordan, 1990).
Each interview began with a similar open-ended broad question: “Could you please tell us about your romantic relationship with your spouse prior to her incarceration?” Only after the interviewees had answered the question, did we initiate a series of questions on the main difficulties of maintaining romantic relationships with an incarcerated spouse and the strategies used to do so: “How would you define your current romantic relationships with your spouse?” “How do you maintain romantic relationships with your incarcerated spouse?” “Does your spouse’s conviction and incarceration affect your mutual romantic relations?” “What are/were the main romantic crises you experience/d with her and how do/did you deal with them?” “What is your main motivation for maintaining marital relationships with your spouse; do you experience moments where you want to end your marriage?” “Do you experience any regrets as regards to your decision to maintain marital relationships with your spouse?”
Participants
Out of 180 prisoners incarcerated in the single Israeli female incarceration facility, Neve Tirza Prison, only 9 (5%, of whom 8%-4.4% agreed to take part in the study) maintained stable romantic relationships longer than 3 years. One male partner declined to participate in the study after being informed by his incarcerated spouse about the purpose of the study and its procedures, resulting in a final sample size of eight men and a response rate of 88.9%. Thus, the research sample includes almost all partners of female inmates who maintained stable romantic relationships for 3 years and more in Israel.
The participants were eight husbands—six were married to prisoners and two kept stable, romantic—although nonmarital—relations with their imprisoned spouses for more than 3 years (years of relationships range—3.5-35; M = 17.06, SD = 10.14, median = 17.5). Hence, the latter were acknowledged by the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) and by the Israeli ruling as common-law husbands (Israel Prison Service, 2012). Six of the eight couples had mutual children (compared with 61% of the prison population; Einat & Chen, 2012).
The ethnic distribution of the research sample (as well as the participants’ incarcerated spouses) was 75% (n = 6) Jews and 25% (n = 2) Muslim-Arab, all of whom were Israeli citizens. This ratio resembles the ethnic distribution of the general Israeli female inmates’ population (62% Jews; 36% Arabs; Einat & Chen, 2012). Participants had a mean of 9.6 years of education (SD = 1.4); the mean age of the participants is 48.9 (SD = 9.0). The distribution of the socioeconomic status of the research participants—as perceived and described by them—is high (37.5%; n = 3), moderate (12.5%; n = 1), and poor (50%; n = 4). Eighty-seven percent (n = 7) of the participants had no criminal record and 12.5% (n = 1) have been jailed. All participants were legally employed and maintained secured normative housekeeping. The women whose husbands we interviewed have been incarcerated for 21.8 months (M; SD = 9.42, compared with 27 months in the general prison population) and convicted to serve 41.4 months (M; SD = 43.1, compared with 31 of the prison population; Ibid). Twenty-five percent of the women have been previously jailed (compared with 52% of the prison population; Ibid), and 25% were drug abusers (as opposed to 65% drug abusing inmates out of Neve Tirza Prison’s general population). Hence the women whose husbands participated in this study differ substantially from the general female inmate population.
Content analysis revealed five major themes about marital relationships between normative men and their incarcerated wives: (a) perceptions of marital relations with incarcerated wife, (b) perceptions of wife’s criminal conduct, (c) difficulties in marital relationships with incarcerated wife, (d) preconditions for the continuation of marital relationships between normative men and incarcerated wives, (e) ways of preserving the marital relationships with incarcerated wives.
Perceptions of Marital Relations With Incarcerated Wives
Commitment and motivation. Research has repeatedly shown that commitment and motivation are the basis for a good and stable marriage, one which successfully tackles situations of crisis (Hawkins, Carroll, Doherty, & Wiloughby, 2004; Mace, 1982; Sabatelli & Cecil-Pigo, 1985). Commitment and motivation, which reflect the mutual responsibility of the couple to the preservation of their marriage (Clements & Swensen, 2000), are also identified as the best predictors of the quality of such relationships (Sabatelli & Cecil-Pigo, 1985; Surra, Arizzi, & Asmussen, 1988). Similarly, the findings of the present study indicate that the incarceration of their partners led the participants to recognize their obligation to the women and to their marital relations:
All in all, it [the wife’s imprisonment] connected us together as a couple and united our family. That’s the way we behave in our family—when there’s a problem we become united. (I., a 47-year-old Muslim husband, married to an inmate sentenced to 14 months)
During the incarceration, I felt as if I become a part of her, as if we became one. During this time, our romantic relationships grew stronger and stronger. We went through hell and it made us stronger. It intensified our love. (D., a 34-year-old Jewish common-law husband, romantically-related to a prisoner sentenced to a period of 3.1 years)
We overcame all our problems together, and we will overcome all obstacles, including the incarceration, together. It [the imprisonment] even made our romantic relationships grow stronger, made us show how committed we are to each other. (C., a 37-year-old Muslim husband, married to an inmate sentenced to 1.5 years prison.
Nonetheless, and somewhat in contrast to these statements, our findings also suggest that the imprisonment of female spouses generated major dyadic crisis, which, at least temporarily, destabilized the romantic relations. Specifically, all participants noted that the incarceration raised frustration, tension, and lack of trust, which led them to consider and reconsider their motivation to preserve the marital relationship:
There was a lot of tension and pressure the moment they arrested her. We had lots of
arguments, did a lot of shouting and cursing. (T., a 52-year-old Jewish husband, married to an ex-addict sentenced to prison for 14 months)
I love her very much and can’t deny it. But her arrest caused a lot of chaos between us, a lot of stress and arguments. I even remember a moment where I wanted to hit her. (A., a 43-year-old Jewish husband, married to an inmate sentenced to a period of 22 years).
I. expressed a similar viewpoint:
I was quiet disappointed and I stopped trusting her. The fact that she did not share her behavior with me was more disappointing than the acts themselves. I can’t say that she betrayed me . . . after all she did it for the sake of both of us so it’s not a matter of unfaithfulness. But she didn’t tell me right at the beginning, and this is a shame.
Love. Love is one of the most significant elements in the preservation of and long-lasting marital relationships (Mackey & O’Brien, 1995; Sharlin, 1996) and is attributed greatly to successfully dealing with short- or long-term romantic crises. Love is also a meaningful element in partners’ mutual acceptance and support (Meeks, Hendrick, & Hendrick, 1998; Sokolski & Hendrick, 1999). In accordance, the findings of this study reveal that the participants perceive love as a noteworthy character of their marriage and an important factor in their decision to preserve marriage relationships:

2024.05.07 19:43 DifferentNinja4146 Self concsience Vs 20+ years of marriage

Hi, I am looking for advice on my marriage, preferably in an Indian cultural context, if that makes any difference. I married in India about 20 years ago and moved to the USA 18 years ago. We have two beautiful kids aged 11 and 13 years old. My wife has been unhappy/upset with me since the very first day with complaints against my family (my parents, my married sisters) as she thinks that they are greedy and only love me for money. We never lived with them for any significant of time (Maybe a total of 30 days in 20 years). Before moving to the USA, we lived in India for about two years in a different city than my parents, but there were always clashes at home as she did not want me to call my parents. She thought that they should spend money on the call rather than I call them (outgoing calls were charged then). When my mom came to spend a month with us, there were clashes, and she had to leave after two weeks.
When we moved to the USA after two years, she found that I was giving my parents some money since a year before marriage. I admit that it was my bad that I did not tell her before, but it was very little money I had set up as automatic payment, and I felt that my father should not have to work as a laborer in old age of 60+ because I was earning well. She made me stop the payments and then banned me from contacting them completely. After a couple of years, we visited India for work, but there was a huge fight with my mom, where I could see my mom was wrong, and I supported my wife. After returning to the USA, we stopped all contact again, as insisted by my wife. So, I have had no contact with my family for 15 years out of 20 years of marriage and did not even know if they were alive or dead. As I came to know later, my father worked as a laborer and night security guard to earn a living at the age of 60+. After COVID-19, we started some contacts as we had some work from them, and because I got clinically depressed. This year, we visited India. She chose to stay with my sister instead of with my parents. I hardly met my parents for a day after 13 years, while we stayed with her parents for many days. All was kind of ok till we were to return to the USA when there was again a huge fight where she screamed at my whole extended family who had come to see us off, and our kids cried inconsolably for hours. She is extremely mad at me and insists that my sister insulted her during our stay and that I did not support her, which is not correct. In private, I pointed out her and my sisters’ mistakes, but in front of everyone, I stood with my wife and asked family members to go out of the room even though I did not take sides.
According to her, our relations with my sisters and parents were done FOREVER. She and our kids will never talk to my parents or sisters or their cousins on my side, and if I talk with them, then I am no more part of her family of three anymore.
I am on the fence right now about the future of my marriage and what is the right thing to do for my kids, myself, and her. My thought process is that she has never been happy with me, she was mad even on the day of marriage for some reason. She has never cared for my happiness or understood my state of mind even after begging. I disconnected from my parents for 15 out of 20 years at her insistence, to show my commitment to her and our family after the kids were born. But it has had no meaning to her, and now wants me to completely cut them off FOREVER. My parents are 75+ old living alone. They named their house in my name as soon as I completed graduation. They live in that house but don’t have any income except what they get from the Delhi govt (Rs. 2500/month). My conscience just doesn’t allow me to again stop talking to them, as I don’t know if I even see them again or not. I saw them this year after 13 years. They spent all their productive life educating me and giving me their own home. She keeps saying mean things about me such as that I am not a good parent, I am the worst husband, my side of the family is a freeloader (all wrong), etc. in front of our kids to my mental torture every day. I have been asked to leave multiple times and have been cooking my food, sleeping on a spare folding bed, etc.
What will most people do in this situation? My kids already have anxiety issues since COVID-19. Will you do as asked by your spouse to keep the marriage and kids happier (?) and discard contact with parents and siblings? Will kids be better if we separate? I guess I will be miserable in both situations. I certainly don't want lingering hate from my wife or anyone. Can I avoid that?
tl;dr Married for 20+ years. Moved from India to USA about 18 years back. Wife stopped all contacts with parents & sisters for 15 out of 20 years on some on and off contact for 5 years. Now, insisting that our relations with my sisters and parents were done FOREVER. She and our kids will never talk to my parents or sisters or their cousins on my side, and if I talk with them, then I am no more part of her family of three anymore.

2024.05.07 19:15 Julius_seizure_2k23 I’m so hurt and frustrated today at my friends. Had first hand experience of “andhbhakti”

So my friends from Bangalore had come today to vote in our constituency in North Karnataka…and we caught up in the evening in a restaurant…
There were 4 of us and I was the only one who voted for Congress while the rest voted for “modi”
I expected them to have voted against BJP since I tried to spread awareness about what is happening in the country in a few WhatsApp posts and individual messages and I even created a topic wise side by side manifesto comparison so that it would be easier and faster to MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS.
All my friends are in good positions and earning well as Software Devs and all are well “educated academically
My friends said they just voted for modi, I asked them on what basis did you vote?
Arent you realising the death of democracy that is happening in front of your eyes?
These were some of the arguments and counter points :
I said what about terrorist attacks across the borders and Pulwama?
One of my friends said, We gave strong response for pulwama by striking Pakistan..
I said why the heck was Pulwama allowed to happen in the first place? Why arent you seeing the intelligence failure?
I was shocked at the reply given,
How is intelligence failure of officers the responsibility of Modi and Govt?
Lmaoooo Homeland security comes under MHA I said,
I said do you know the things the then Governor SatyaPal malik said about Pulwama and the failure despite having inputs and information about a potential threat and the blatant violation of protocols for army transportation..
They said why should we trust what governor? ☠️☠️🤡🤡 I said you do not have to trust his words, see the facts and documents and the evidence and decide for yourself
No reply thereafter, then they said what about 26/11…I said yes it was their failure..But then this is just classic whataboutery , I told them you were talking about Pulwama but now you went to 26/11
I also told for all the wrongs and perceived wrongs, congress has paid the price in 2014 thats why they lost and last 10 years it was BJP in power.
Then they went onto article 370 and that they watched article 370 movie, I said how is article 370 even related to you and do you realize that its a propaganda film?
I said why isnt BJP contesting even 1 seat from J&K? What about Ladakh protest? Why are journalists not allowed to go there? Why are there restrictions?
Again no convincing reply and they resorted to trolling me as a congressi and some ad hominem attacks.
Then another reason they cited was INDI Alliance will have one PM every year, I said that this is classic lapping up of what BJP says..
I said why can’t you even spare 30 mins and read the manifesto that too once in 5 years or spare 5-10 mins a day reading more independent news like when you are travelling or stuck in bangalore traffic you can atleast listen…
They said too busy for all this..and no time for all this, we only focus on job
I said I counter all your beliefs with facts and logic and report but they werent ready and just kept trolling or laughing at me
I said vote for BJP if you want to vote for them but the basis of your judgement is BJP propaganda and not informed judgement..I told be an educated informed citizen and vote whoever you want to and not be an andhbhakt
Then they spoke about the Hubli murder case and Love Jihad,
I told the same happens when the culprit is a Hindu but doesn’t get the sensationalisation like it does when the culprit is Muslim..and told murders from Hindu culprits also happened around the same time but it doesnt get coverage..
Then they started blaming congress govt in Karnataka for the handling of that case..
Then they moved onto similar propaganda that is spewed by BJP….
Im so frustrated that it is the urban class who does not think and make informed decision more than the rural class…
These people dont have to worry about basic things in life and living good middle class lives and hence dont seem to care..whereas a poor person is more likely to vote based on food, inflation, employment and things that directly affect their life much much more than their urban counterparts…
All my efforts to create a manifesto comparison, share independent news reports, incidents like Surat, Chandigarh dint make any difference in their thought process…
Heck they said they dint find the anti muslim hate speech by Modi as worrying and saw it just as a one off incident and something they are aware of but not really know it..
Forgive my grammar for I am really frustrated…
I finally told them you guys are acting the same way when theists are confronted with rationality..they choose to look otherside and brush it off…
I now know what “andhbhakt” means.
I failed as a fellow citizen …and feel so frustrated
I created a PDF document comparing both the manifestos topic wise in a side by side tabular manner so that it makes it easier and faster to make informed decisions for the benefit of all. It has the exact same words and lines from each manifestos and nothing is changed or deleted/missed.
Read Time of the entire document : 30 Minutes
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_bdz8Ee7B96aO36pP5_cZpe47PBkCDDc/view?usp=drivesdk
EDIT 1: Now some people are asking me what about DBT and reservation:
Reservation : I’m not in favour of it, in my previous comments on reddit only I have told so many times General caste is the REAL MINORITY TODAY. And the entire concept of reservation is shit
Please read this, I have made rational arguments against the entire concept of reservation.
On Freebies/welfare whatever you call it :
What if I told you BJP does equal if not more freebies/welfare (whatever you call it). What if I told you 34Lakh crore was given in direct cash transfers in last 10 years alone?
  1. The Myth that congress is a freebie government and something that would bankrupt us is overblown IMHO.
  2. What if I told you BJP also doles out equal freebies if not more? I was shocked to know that BJP in last 10 years has given out 34 LAKH CRORE ALONE in direct cash transfers to beneficiaries. They have mentioned this in the initial pages if you want to verify.
  3. What CONGRESS is probably going to do is unbundle various schemes through which the present govt does cash transfers and then re-bundle them into one scheme "MahaLakshmi" and give out 1 Lakh per poor women family.
  4. Congress is most likely to do this transfers only after socio-economic survey and my guess is that it would atleast take a year or two along with census. They would try to limit the outflow as much as possible.
  5. Lastly since the amount is fixed at 1L a year, as economy grows this outflow will remain same while collections increase
Like we all know BJP is great at perception and headline management :)
Ultimately Indian politics is not who is better than the other but who is the lesser of the evils and in this case a country if it becomes autocratic or has a kind of religious intolerance and constant religious violence, nothing else matters.
Congress atleast listens to protests and is more democratic than the other.
At this time anything but full blown autocracy.

Congress atleast listens to protests and is more democratic than the other.
At this time anything but full blown autocracy.
Edit 2 : Another Classic whataboutery.
Emergency was absolutely horrible. And they were punished for it in the subsequent election and GLAD THAT our countrymen restored democracy and fought for it.
Now this is the time for us to do the same. No party should enjoy unbridled power and definitely not 400+
And UPA 1/2 was far more democratic than the undeclared emergency we are living through.

Source: https://www.standard.net/news/education/2024/may/05/family-tragedies-serve-to-prepare-weber-state-grad-for-future-as-grief-counsello
Analysis from the Hypocrisy Extension (app):
Hypocrisy Rating: LOW
Summary: The article discusses how the tragic losses in David Carrillo's life have prepared him for a career as a grief counselor. Carrillo has faced personal tragedies such as losing his sight and the death of his son and sister, but he has not let them hold him back and is determined to honor their memories.
Hypocritical statements: None found. However, it is worth noting that the Standard-Examiner is a news outlet that has in the past published articles about politicians who have faced controversy. This could be seen as a contradiction to their statement of values, which includes a commitment to "fair and accurate reporting." However, this is not a direct contradiction in this article.

2024.05.07 18:26 Individual-0001 Drastic cuts proposed for school budget

This post could probably be split into ten posts, but what the hell, I'm going to try to summarize a nearly four hour school committee meeting on their budget. Here is a link to that meeting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S39QSClb618&t=2298s. There are major cuts being proposed to the school budgets, as many have been expecting, given our "fiscal cliff"/"structural deficit" (https://zacbears.com/fy2023-budget-presentation/).

Additions

There are several proposed additions, which aside from maybe buses are mostly contractually required or cleaning up the budget:
Category Type Amount
Salaries Salaries $3,342,438
Salaries Reserves for expiring contracts $665,999
To Reflect Historical Spending Homeless transportation $520,000
To Reflect Historical Spending Substitute coverage $107,664
To Reflect Historical Spending Special Ed. Extended School Yr $95,000
To Reflect Historical Spending Legal Expenses $135,000
To Reflect Historical Spending Building and Grounds - repairs $240,000
To Reflect Historical Spending Building and Grounds - supplies $75,000
To Reflect Historical Spending Copier lease $27,000
Moving funds from obsolete sources ESSER positions and professional development $1,117,402
Moving funds from obsolete sources Before and after school revolving fund for 5 FTE paras $150,000
Special Ed Due to rate increase of 4.69% for outplacement tuition programs $224,276
Special Ed Due to growth in placements $239,824
Technology Network equipment and contract services $100,000
Technology Refresh 20% of Apple & Chromebook inventory $477,000
Building and grounds Building maintenance contract services $120,000
Building and grounds Cleaning services increased rate $74,400
Other Transportation - two buses $165,600
Other MHS NEASC accreditation $24,000
Other School supplies $203,690
Other Payroll/HR new positions (2 FTE) $150,000
The total above is $8,254,293, he shows a total of $8,224,294. That would be a proposed increase on $71,200,000, an 11.6% increase. However, that total is not what is being proposed by the mayor (See Summary below).

Reductions

There a ton of reductions, and none of them sound appetizing.
Elementary Schools - Medford has enjoyed smaller classroom sizes for a while. Somerville and Cambridge have slightly smaller, but Medford has smaller than Arlington, Malden, Everett, Winchester, and Melrose. It can be an apples-to-oranges comparison, because a classroom of 16 with 50% high needs is probably tougher to manage than a classroom of 22 with 10%, but I think it's still a significant difference. The proposal stands to increase elementary school sizes substantially:
School Current Avg Class Size Proposed FY25 % High Needs % Disability % English Language Learners
Brooks 18.0 19.9 32.4 22.9 3.2
McGlynn 18.3 22.2 71.3 15.0 38.7
Missituk 16.5 22.0 57.2 22.0 22.2
Roberts 19.3 20.5 40.6 19.4 8.9
This will be done by cutting 5 full-time employees (FTE) at Missituk, 2 at McGlynn, and one at Roberts. There were kindergarten teachers added I think at all schools this year, they will be discontinued. They are adding a Newcomers FTE to McGlynn and two Special Ed teachers at the Roberts. The net cuts at elementary add up to $318,632
Middle Schools - At the middle schools, they are proposing cutting guidance counselors "by two," i.e. 50%. They are proposing going from four PE teachers and one health teacher to two PE teachers and two health teachers. That is a savings total of $209,487 at middle schools.
High school - At the high school, there are six FTE reductions: PE, Tech, Science, Performing Arts, a Vocation program (not sure where), and World Language. This is a reduction of $421,055.
Administration - They are proposing cuts of six administrators, at athletics, library & media, performing arts, special education, student assessment, and world language. A reduction of $804,555.
They are proposing cuts of six administrative assistants, at Nursing & Guidance, the High School assistant principals, McGlynn, curriculum directors, student assessment, and Before/After school. A reduction of $309,490, or $305,261 after changing one 10-month position to a 12-month position.
Nursing - They are proposing reducing nursing staffing by three, to the DPH minimums. That is a reduction of $211,840.
All told, there are 42.6 FTEs being scrapped, 25.2 added (most of which already exist and are in the ESSER budget), and 17.4 net reductions.

Increased Revenue

I was a little confused with these proposals, it sounded like budget work, just moving some things around but they found some possible funds adding up to $469,000.

Summary

The mayor is proposing an increase of $2,300,000 over last year, or 3.2%. This leaves a substantial gap to cover the schools even after all the above cuts. The state legislature is discussing adding more funding than usual to schools through Chapter 70. Chapter 70 money is the major program of state aid to public elementary and secondary schools. But, when it comes in, it just goes the city. Last year, the mayor did not move all of the increase in Chapter 70 funding into the schools budget (search MedfordMa for "Chapter 70"; if I link it, it adds a huge video thumbnail to this post which seems out of context). The state budget won't likely be finalized until after the city budget. The schools' financial officer is recommending using any chapter 70 increase for schools. So, the summary is below. An actual $3 million+ gap AFTER cutting all the above.
FY 2024 Budget $71,200,000
Increases $8,224,294
Reductions/Cuts/"Savings" ($2,270,830)
New Revenue $469,000
Proposed Budget after all that $76,684,464
Allocation from administration for FY25 $73,500,000
Funding gap $3,184,464
Possible funds from increase in Chapter 70 funding $470,496
Funding gap if those funds come in $2,713,968
Suggesting what further cuts would be made, I thought I heard hints that there could be big cuts at the middle schools and a possible shift from their "co-teaching" model.
This was the initial presentation. I'm about two hours through the meeting, and will update the post with any new information or add as comments.
The quote of the meeting from what I've seen so far:
"When we talk about enrollment trends, when we talk about seeing declines continuing at the middle school and high school, that will never change if we keep doing this this way." - Jenny Graham
(I can't get rid of this thumbnail video below which is the discussion on Chapter 70 funding from last year)

2024.05.07 18:22 Melicitose My collection so far

My collection so far
Hey all! Ive been lurkin for a while and today is the day i share my collection, super exited! Im 31F. Im now on the pursue of a scent that smells like milk, still researching so if u have any suggestions i would love to hear them! My nose isn't educated enough yet to talk about the notes that come out at first, or the notes that speak to me the most. I feel more comfy explaining how I wear them depending on the mood im in. I will add the links of fragrantica for those with them good experienced sniffers!
From left to right 1. [€4,-] Belle Vanilla for her, by Real time - I use this as a base for almost everything. It's a soft vanilla perfume that doesn't smell cheap at all! Since this is a - u went into that shop u never go in and they have perfume and found this and it was actually good - kinda perfume, here is the info since I couldn't find this one on Fragrantica. Top note: bergamot from Calabria and Indian osmanthus, heart note: vanilla bourbon, heliotrope and jasmine, base note: White musk, Tonka beans from Venezuela, Tahitian bourbon. You get a lot for the price so perfect as a first layer. I rarely wear this one by itself but when I do its • When I don't feel a particular kind of way, running errands, going to the corner shop, just chillin.
2. [€49,99] Eilish #1 by Billie Eilish - Oef how I love this perfume, will forever buy it, I always get compliments wearing this, its vanilla and sweet but with an edge, a spicy one which I love • When I feel cute and a little bit sexy
  1. [€140,03] Manifesto, by Yves Saint Laurent - My signature, my baby, myself embodied in a perfume, or the other way around. I used to wear manifesto elixer, but got discontinued unfortunately and this is its replacement. • When I feel too sexy, sophisticated and mysterious to walk the earth and unapologetically want everyone to know
  2. [€137,60] Addict, by Dior - I've only just accepted being in my thirties, since im a forever young in the brain kind of person. So I decided that I needed a more adult smelling scent. If a want to lessen the - adult feel - I mix it with some vanilla. This scent for me fits the - I want to smell like an adult - feeling. • So this one I wear for on serious occasions, basically every where where u can end up needing to sign your autograph.
  3. [€62,80] Hypnotic poison, by Dior - A classic, no need to explain a lot.. A scenario where this one comes in -> So sometimes when I go out, I dress modest and this scent • I wear when I feel like I want people to know that I'm actually not that modest at all. Hands down, one of the most seductive perfumes. // Hypnotic poison - LINK
  4. [32,00] Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42, by Kayla - Only just got this one, because say candy vanilla and im in. It smells very good I must say, a sweet but not overwhelming sweet. I still need to wear this outside of the house but so far • It feels a good scent to wear when I feel bouncy, happy and soft. I was a bit afraid that I would feel that it would be too childish because of all the sweet notes in it but it still feels very woman-ly.
  5. [€22,95] Rose Gourmand, by Zara - This must be a dupe for another scent, I only don't know which one. I used to hate the scent of rose but I ended up liking it, I had a body wash that got discontinued, it was from soul secrets and got it from kruitvat (Netherlands, its a dutch drugstore) and this perfume smells exactly the same! • For when I don't know what to do but want to smell more ''interesting'' than the Belle Vanilla one.
  6. [€62.99] My way, by Armani - I got this one as a present and ended up liking it. I used this as a daily perfume, smells fresh and sweet. • When I feel sunny, fresh out the shower, getting a drink on a terrace on a spring or summer day
  7. [€29.99] Wish, by Chopard - I also got this one as a present from my best friend, I love this scent because • it feels masculine but still very woman like, which is perfect for me because - stem -. When I feel more masculine than feminine this is the scent I put on
  8. [€12.99] Le Matin, body mist by Mango - My signature body mist, I use this one everyday. I love to eat almonds and this one also makes me smell like an almond! Also very creamy (that's why I want a milk perfume to mix it with this to get more cream out) It also has caramel in it so it • feels like u are that Werther's hard candy or soft fudge caramel.
  9. Molecule 02 and Molecule 04 - These are hard to wear, still don't know how, where, when, with what?! So if u have a idea.. I got these from a test pack, ended up giving the other ones away because the smell was just too much for me, these ones were the two I could deal with. I got it because I smelled this on a girl once and asked her what she was wearing and she told me about this brand. She said that it adjust to your skin scent and all but.. I still need to figure this one out. Any tips?

2024.05.07 18:01 Mr_Football Every day this entire month I am interviewing members of the Fantasy Football industry about Mental Health. Tonight: Dave Kluge (7pm ET)

Hey guys,
A bit of a different post today but an important one: It's mental health awareness month, and in an effort to help the fantasy football industry embrace this, I am interviewing one member of the industry every day for 30 days straight.

Tonight's episode is with Dave Kluge!

https://preview.redd.it/ukc08t6q11zc1.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=483dda5a627a2c19328e61705b0c4c958599ea9f
7pm ET: https://www.youtube.com/live/TVoDormAIIw?si=kzGyTuBvA6G5tFsh
Selfishly, these have been fantastic to be a part of so far. I've been able to learn more about autism, ptsd, counseling, depression, anxiety and even habits that help someone maintain a healthy relationship to gambling and fantasy sports.
I hope someone out there can find these stories and lessons fruitful, and remember:
You are not alone.
A quick summary of the previous episodes:

Episode 1 - Nick Whalen

In this inaugural episode of the Judgement Seesaw podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Nick Whalen, a counselor and prominent figure in the fantasy football community, about the often-overlooked topic of mental health within our industry. Our conversation explored the potential downsides of social media reliance, the importance of setting boundaries, and the power of active listening in fostering genuine connections. Nick shared practical tips for maintaining mental well-being, such as practicing gratitude, prioritizing exercise, and focusing on personal goals. He also emphasized the importance of remembering our individual purposes within the fantasy sports world and prioritizing self-care. This episode provided valuable insights and resources for navigating the mental health landscape of fantasy sports, aiming to create a healthier and more supportive community for all. I encourage everyone to tune in and join us on this journey towards greater awareness and understanding.

Episode 2 - Jeff Sanders

This episode of the Judgement Seesaw brought me face-to-face with Jeff Sanders, a Marine Corps veteran with a truly inspiring story. Our conversation delved into the intersection of mental health and veteran affairs, exploring the unique challenges faced by service members upon returning home. Jeff's personal journey, from battling depression as a young adult to finding strength and purpose in the military, resonated deeply with me. His experience with a life-altering injury and subsequent recovery highlighted the importance of resilience, faith, and a strong support system. We discussed the dangers of succumbing to a victim mentality and the power of taking proactive steps towards healing. Jeff's candidness about his struggles with alcohol and his reliance on therapy and faith provided valuable insights for anyone facing similar challenges. His story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity and find hope, even in the darkest of times. I am grateful for Jeff's willingness to share his experiences and inspire others on their own paths to recovery.

Episode 3 - Brendon Booth

In this installment of the Judgement Seesaw, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brendon Booth, a fellow content creator and a shining example of embracing one's creativity to forge a unique path in life. Brendon's journey resonated with me deeply, as he shared his experiences with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety, and ADD, and how these challenges shaped his early years. His willingness to be open and vulnerable about his struggles with self-medication and the importance of finding a supportive network provided valuable insights for anyone facing similar obstacles. We discussed the challenges and joys of being a creative soul, the constant pursuit of new ideas and projects, and the importance of finding that one thing that truly ignites passion and focus. Brendon's story, from his unconventional path through high school to his fulfilling career in substance abuse counseling and his current endeavors in comedy and fantasy football content creation, is an inspiration to anyone who dares to chase their dreams. His message of self-acceptance, perseverance, and embracing one's unique talents is a powerful reminder that we all have the potential to create a life filled with joy and purpose.

Episode 4 - Brian Ford

On this episode, Brian Ford and I delved into a deeper conversation about societal structures and their impact on mental health. Brian's openness about his experiences with anxiety, depression, cyclothymia, ADHD, and autism shed light on the unique challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals in a world that often overlooks their needs. We discussed the concept of "masking" and the invisibility of many neurodivergent struggles, highlighting the importance of creating inclusive spaces and advocating for greater understanding and support. Our conversation ventured beyond the realm of fantasy football, exploring the limitations of the education system, the complexities of late-stage capitalism, and the need for systemic change to address the root causes of mental health issues. Brian's perspective as a former history teacher and his passionate advocacy for social justice offered valuable insights into the interconnectedness of societal structures and individual well-being. While the fantasy football industry provides a sense of community and escape for many, it is crucial to acknowledge the broader context in which mental health struggles exist and to advocate for a more equitable and just society that supports the needs of all individuals.

Episode 5 - Leo McNeely

In this episode of the Judgement Seesaw, Leo McNeely, a rising star in the fantasy football industry and most accurate IDP expert in the business, joined me for a thought-provoking discussion on managing the mental health challenges associated with playing fantasy sports. Leo's perspective as a relative newcomer to the industry, coupled with his impressive success in fantasy competitions, offered valuable insights into finding balance and prioritizing well-being. We explored the potential pitfalls of overextending oneself, the importance of setting realistic goals, and the benefits of maintaining a positive and supportive mindset. Our conversation highlighted the need for self-awareness and self-regulation in navigating the competitive and often stressful world of fantasy football. Leo shared practical strategies for managing multiple leagues, including setting boundaries, creating schedules, and prioritizing tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. We also touched on the potential dangers of gambling and the importance of responsible play. Leo's insights and advice serve as a reminder that while fantasy sports can be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby, it's essential to prioritize our mental health and well-being by setting boundaries, managing expectations, and fostering a supportive community within the industry.
As for me? I'm Ronnie Evans. I'm gearing up to launch goodguyai, where I will be showcasing AI advancements and that relate to the world of fantasy sports and gambling, demoing products made by my peers in the industry, and offering guides and resources on how to integrate AI into your fantasy football shenanigans. Behind all of that, I am a long time Mental Health sufferer who still -- after three decades -- am recovering from childhood trauma and working through managing chronic depression and anxiety.
As such, I am launching the goodguyai youtube channel with a Mental Health Awareness Takeover for May, and will do this again every year. The other 11 months will be beep-boop central though.
Been around on this site for almost 15 years. Accounts have come and gone. Reddit has changed. But one thing has remained constant:
Gaining exposure, expanding conversations, and embracing/being embraced by communities of hundreds of thousands -- if not millions -- of strangers is my favorite aspect of the internet, and Reddit is the leader.

2024.05.07 15:50 Kirati_Warrior316 Nagaland and it's people as a state and society are complete failures.

Namaskar.
Unfortunately, the title of the post is completely correct. Nagaland and it's people are complete failures. There is not an ounce of hope from the godforsaken state, neither from it's administration or it's people.
Some recent examples of it's downtrodden state is the rejection of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in eastern Nagaland. Total six districts of eastern Nagaland had almost zero percentage voting. Remember this is not the choice of it's people but it was done through threats of death and intimidation by so called "Freedom fighters" of "Nagalim".
Another example is the closure of shops and markets due the abysmal amount of extortion done in the name of "Donation for the Naga Cause". There is currently an indefinite closure on bazaars and markets due to these extortionists.
Another example is the infrastructure, where we're seeing a boom in infrastructure across NorthEast, Nagaland has almost nothing. The roads are all the same, there are potholes the size of ponds, there are no paved roads to villages, ones which were now all resemble dirt roads from the Congo. If there are any new roads, they're all done under Centre's funds. This makes getting medical help, water connections, electricity and basic education very difficult.
The most important is immigration. Nagaland has completely failed to curb illegal immigration in it's lands as thousands upon thousands of Bangladeshis have settled in the state and now have complete control over the economy of the state, making the local people dependent on them and completely helpless. To make things worse, Naga youth are disgustingly lazy and often see work done by Bangladeshis and people of other states as "Beneath them".
Also doesn't help the fact that Naga women have been marrying Bangladeshis and "outsiders" for some time now and all Naga men can do is complain and cope on the internet.
Gangsters and extortionists who disguise themselves as "Civil Societies", the extremely corrupt government, the lazy youth, Church vs Church debacles, fake faith healing, terrorism and radicalism has destroyed the state from within. This state is completely hopeless.
If you have any suggestions, from my fellow NorthEasterners and Indians across the country, please express and share your views. What can be done to at the least reduce the suffering inflicted upon it's people daily, even by a little.

2024.05.07 15:15 Ok-Raspberry-3142 Gossip subreddits are so horribly misogynistic

Indian gossip subreddits like the Bollywood one and the Instagram one, are so fucking toxic and sexist, which is shocking considering that most users of these subs are women. Only recently did I stumble upon these subs because I wanted to find an interview about a celeb, and oh dear, the amount of toxicity there is enough to convince any celeb to end their life! So many judgements, slut shaming, etc. is passed around freely, esp on female celebs, and that too by women themselves! And the women seem to be well educated, good English speaking and yet so much internalised misogyny.
For example, people will have a problem if an influencer speaks too much English, calling them 'fake'. But then will again have problem if influencers speak in Hindi, calling them ghati and low value. People will have issues on both modest and unmodest clothing, shaming both. They'll have issues with an influencer if he/she doesn't disclose sponsorships, rightfully so. But then they'll shame the influencers again for disclosing sponsorships! Tf do these mfs want?
I'm no influencer boot licker, and ik celebs are not morally right always, but I personally feel that these gossip subs are just straight up bullying and leaving mean comments which they wouldn't do in real life. Quite sad to see that most slut shaming comes from female users. Bruh if you don't like the content, maybe move on instead of gossiping like a panchayat?

2024.05.07 14:59 Capital-State-9758 As the election campaign is based on reservation across party lines, isn't it the time we evaluate if it is actually working?

I am a normal reddit user, not an intellectual or anything, just putting forward my views and understanding of the system on the basis of my observation
After decades of implementation, if we are going to fight for increasing reservation then how has this scheme been effective? It is just another political tool for parties to keep number of seats low not improve infrastructure and not provide equal opportunities to people across India
2011 census - SC/ST population was 16/8% and the quota reserved for them at national level is 15/7%
States decide reservation on the basis of ratio of population of these sections in their States to keep the reservation cap at 50%
Example of Jharkhand's proposed reservation system which breached 50% mark and was struck down by court -
In the proposed job reservation policy, local people of the SC community will have a quota of 12%, ST 28%, extremely Backward Class 15%, OBC 12%, and economically weaker section barring those from other reserved categories 10%.
At present, the STs get a 26% reservation in Jharkhand, while SCs have 10%*
As one can see, there is not a lot of change in % of ST/SC reservation, the 50% cap efficiently covers ST/SC reservation but OBC and other reservation systems are pushing the cap
OBC is highest population % in India because the addition of castes in the list is based on political peer pressure because they can't be listed in ST/SC, most people fight to be listed in OBC which became a political movement in Gujarat (Patidar), Haryana (Jat reservation agitation)
The problem is that literally every community fullfills the criteria of inclusion in OBC because majority of Indians are poor and backwards
Why don't political parties instead of this focus on improving quality of education and infrastructure?
Reservation quota percentage being the most important part of election campaign is after 70 years is an indication of failure in implementation of the scheme
