~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~

First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.

[Valkyria Chronicles]

[Valkyria Chronicles 4]

This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.

[Fuga: Melodies of Steel 1 & 2]

Great game, great art style, and really well made and balanced turn-based combat. That alone is enough to get the game. Then you add the time-management part of the game, where you spend time upgrading the different tank rooms, cooking, exploring ruins, spending time to bond with other characters, and so on. It's also great if you want a game that you can play for an hour or 2 and then put down for later. As the game is played through stages, and once you're done with a stage, you get an intermission to do what you want and come back to it later.
It's not a long game (compared to the usual JRPG), as you mentioned, it's about 20 hours. Story-wise I think it was a bit too short. Gameplay wise it was great fit, because it didn't outstay it's welcome, and it ends when you feel you have mastered the gameplay and want to face the final challenge.
The story is good, but isn't the focus. Gameplay is the main focus. In fact you'll feel that a lot of context isn't told in the story, but instead left for you to either read about in the in-game wiki or just figure out through obvious clues in the story.
There is a big mechanic that this meant to put a lot of pressure on your playthrough (don't worry about it being spoiled because it's literally explained in the first hour of the game). The thing is though, if you have experience in JRPGs or just play in a really well thought out and relaxed manner, then that mechanic might not be as big a deal as they make it seem to be. Yet it's still fun nonetheless.
Fuga 2 is even better. It fixes a lot of the minor issues the first game had, and what's really great, is it improved the "big pressure" mechanic I talked about, and now it actually is a big deal. Then add to that so much little new mechanics added that just makes for a much more fun and challenging game. The 2nd game also continues the same story.

[Ni no Kuni] Series

If you're looking for that great Isekai fantasy adventure feel, then these two games are where it's at. Fantastic visuals and great music, coupled with a great art style, a combo that is perfect for a chill and relaxed gaming experience. Especially when talking about the first game, with the help ofStudio Ghibli, they managed to make a truly whimsical world with that Studio Ghibli classic touch.
- Important Note: The games aren't connected story-wise, so you can start with any of them -

[Wrath of the White Witch]

For a the best fantasy adventure feel, while the combat is a hit or miss depending on your taste, don't let that stop you from actually diving into a true fairy tale world, this is the one with the better story in my opinion, so if you want more story than game, this is for you. Still it has a good share of gameplay, from raising and collecting Pokemon-like monsters, to learning and using different spells, not just in combat but for the overworld too.

[Ni no Kuni™ II: Revenant Kingdom]

This one focuses more on gameplay, with a Kingdom builder, Army battles, Heavy loot focus, and even character collector, this is the one to go with if you want more game than story. Still has the great music and he fantastical art style and setting. Add to that a lot of side activities like beating rare monsters, collecting cute creatures to help you in battle, and even going around the world to gather people to help you build your kingdom. You'll never be short on things to do.
Finally, both of them have beautifully draw world that is just a pleasure to walkthrough, made even better with the amazing orchestral soundtrack.

[Star Ocean The Second Story R]

The original PS1 game was already an amazing JRPG and a classic. But this remake takes it to go even further beyond SSJ3. It should be the standard on how to make a faithful remake on of a classic title.
I don't want to overhype it more than I already did. So to keep this short, this remake does so much:
  • All major story events are now fully voice acted. This includes a lot of the private actions too.
  • Fully redone and better translation of the game.
  • New Character to recruit to the party.
  • New Private Actions and 13 new Endings.
  • New character portraits, not just for the main cast, but also for many other characters.
  • A complete rework for the battle system to be up to modern standards.
  • So many QoL features:
    • Auto-saving
    • Fast-forward cut-scenes or skip them.
    • Text log
    • All difficulties can be accessed from the start
    • Fast travel
    • 3 different voice dubbing options to choose from (New English, Original Japanese, New Japanese)
    • Your choice of different art styles
    • Choose between original OST and new rearranged OST.
    • No random battles anymore, as enemies can be seen and avoided
And believe me when I say I still haven't touched half of the amazing work that has gone into this remake.

[Sword and Fairy 7: Together Forever]

They did a great job with the presentation of the game. Great voice acting (Chinese), great graphics, amazing music, and an impressive attention to details of the world and it's lore, especially the engineering of the buildings and their decor. Then you have the really beautiful design of each piece of gear, and even just normal attire of each NPC and the disciples of each sect or soldiers of each of the different of each plane (gods, humans, demons).
Then we go to how great looking the monsters and local flora and fauna of each realm. You can feel the intense work that has gone into making and animating each of them. It really is a joy to watch them, as much as it is to watch each environment you see them in. There really isn't enough time to talk about how good the presentation is.
As for the story. First off, I am not an expert in Chinese novels mythology, but I am a big fan of Xianxia and Wuxia novels. So when I say that the story is...good but nothing great, I am saying this as more than just a JRPG fan, but also someone who is very into this type of world and Chinese martial arts fantasy setting. it's nothing that will stick in your mind, apart from the events that take place in some of the beautiful set pieces in the game, or the cut-scenes with beautiful action cheoragphy.
The gameplay is also about average. The side-quests are fun and are worth doing if nothing more than for learning more about the lore and the world. But the actual battles and action gameplay isn't as good as the best ones out there, but it's not bad. I have ran into some bugs, some small, some big, but that was when the game just came out, and it did receive a lot of patches since then. You can tell that they aimed to make a huge triple A production, but didn't have the time or manpower to test a game of this size. It's still fun to play and experience, but the level of gameplay is nowhere near the level of the presentation that the game gives the impression of having just from watching the gameplay or trailers.
If you enjoy walking through magical and fantastic looking JRPG worlds, or if you enjoy Xianxia/Wuxia fiction, then this is an easy choice. Hell even if you don't, it's still worth a go at this price.

[Blue Dragon] & [Lost Odyssey]

These two are classic titles that will probably won't be ported to or remade to modern consoles. That's why this might be the last way you'll ever get to experience 2 classic titles of the genre. Lost Odyssey has great story writing and unique character settings, and Blue Dragon has great exploration and a really fun character class customization system, and one hell of a boss theme.

[Monster Sanctuary]

This is a solid game, everything in is polished and balanced to make sure you are having fun collecting new monsters and customizing your team through evolution/skill trees/gear and making the best in-sync party you can. I only wish it was longer, it's not short by any means, but it's not long either. I would say depending on if you're trying to "catch them all" and explore everything and fight all bosses, this could easily be a 30+ hours game, but if you focus on the story, then it's about 20 to 30 hours. Now even longer with the 2 new free DLC expansion added.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining that it's short, but that I was having so much fun, that I wish it didn't end.

As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.

2024.05.14 22:43 Xenomorphette Unpopular Opinion

When I’ve got an enemy Sombra coming at me as a Mercy, I actually have MORE fun than most other games.
I’ve played a ridiculous amount of hours on Mercy and she will always be my main. I love her maneuverability and ability to Glock. If I’ve got a Sombra making me use more of my skill set than just healing/DBing… then the game is ridiculously fun and I’m laughing my butt off and having a blast.
I have to calculate when to rez to not be interrupted. I have to listen better for the Sombra’s Voiceline “boop” or for her hack of a life pack. I have to be on my toes to pull my Glock and turn it on her. More often than not my actions of hunting the chick down and killing her as Mercy forces the now triggered Sombra to swap and/or be completely useless to her team.
For all those players who lack class and tbag when finally killing Sombra … just get better. Because for those who know situational awareness and are good with Mercy’s kit and know how to handle a good Sombra, she makes the game fun.
So this is me, as a Mercy Main, thanking all the Sombras out there. Because you make me a better Mercy and I love you for it!
To the other Mercy Mains… what’s your one tip to other Mercy’s that help you when you’re targeted by Sombra?
My one tip would be: listening. Sombras can’t help using voice lines or hacking a pack near you. Turn your voice lines sound up and listen for her. She will more often than not, give away her position.

Noctua nh-d15 chromax black air cooleRyzen 9 7950X3D/ASRock X670E Taichi/128GB DDR5-5200Mhz/RTX 4090/SSD M.2 NVMe 4TB

2024.05.14 22:11 TimeDilution Vivado Users Beware. Tools not Building Correctly

This is somewhat a PSA to everyone using Vivado and maybe a cry for help to figure out why I need to hard clean my project everytime I want to make a change.
I have encountered an issue with Vivado over the last couple months which has made me crazy(er). Whenever I was building a project, everything would work in simulation and build properly, but when I put it on the FPGA it just never seemed to work.
What I eventually figured out was that Vivado would not actually re-implement my VHDL modules and just use an old version cached somewhere. It would do this despite the files changing and Vivado would even error out of synthesis if I had any errors in the file, so I had believed it was actually making meaningful changes based off my code, but it was not.
I finally discovered this because I noticed that accessing some register default values I had in an AXI device were never changing. I wasn't sure if it was the petalinux toolchain or vivado OR especially my own inexperience in FPGAs at the time.
Turns out that it ended up being both Vivado (2023.2) and Petalinux (2023.2) making things difficult on me. In order to get the correct bitstream from Vivado, I would need to go to the source hierarchy and reset the output products on the block diagram and then regenerate the output products. The flow navigator generate block design was not working when changed modules were involved. Eventually this hack didn't work for me either and I had to manually clean out the folders in the project directory, except for sources and .gen.
I haven't retested this behaviour yet, but I believe I also experienced this phenomenon as well: I started putting Led ports hooked up to constants (made from stock IP) to visualy show me which version of the bitstream loaded, it actually gave me the right LED revisions, but my modules were still stuck behind.
I am not sure what is causing this behaviour, perhaps its the way I'm source controlling the project with HDL sources outside the vivado project directory so I can source control the projects better. I import the sources but don't copy into project. But if it wasn't actually reading the soruces then it wouldn't yell at me when I make errors when I change it, or have different simulations. I believe this is a bug and the solution takes forever to regenerate all the components of the project for things that actually do need to be cached and not changed.
Anyways, just letting everyone be aware of this behaviour so you stop ripping your hair out if you're like me. Does anyone have any tips to this problem?

2024.05.14 22:10 The_OG_Chad A medical / game overhaul to maximize depth/immersion with mostly current code and mechanics. A compromise to bridge “hardcores” + “casuals” and not killing expensive medical ships.

It’s a little scattered doing it on my phone. I’ll get home and clean it up. But I want peoples input. I really think this would work and it’s totally realistic. I think CIG needs some guidance and the medical changes offer the perfect moment to add these features in the game.
I have been a developer for years and I can see CIG trying balance what’s realistic and what they promised. Every startup I was with came to a point where they realized their proposals were far too aggressive, and the higher ups would not even listen to ideas unless they were easy to implement.
So, I’ve been trying to come up with ideas that take minimal effort for maximum gains. These are fairly simple, but will add depth or will lay the groundwork for easy future development.
I think this is the perfect topic for my first idea. The medical system is tricky, but so important. Right now, the medical system is boring and doesn’t add much to the game and with a few tweaks it could add 25% more and be a major part imo while feeling more immersive and satisfying both parties. We need to look to other amazing games like Eve online and cyberpunk imo.
The hard-core fans want investment and death to cost. Now that I am older and have a family, I understand how hard it is to balance that in time to play Now that I am older and have a family, I understand how hard it is to balance that and time to play. It’s really hard to get your average gamer to want to invest 30 minutes to simply respawn.
So in my opinion, we need a system that…
  1. Makes death inconvenient and costly but with several ways to pay the “bill”, not only costly at that moment so the player decides quitting is easier.
  2. Makes the game far more immersive and makes the game deeper, not shallower. In real life in the future, in the future, medical would be a vast portion of warfare and finance and exploration and exploitation. Not just a glorified HP counter.
  3. Makes all medical ships useful and relevant. Cannot have a shallow system where one ship is clearly the best.
  4. Makes healthcare and biology affect all the other parts of the game…. It is our bodies and minds after all. In the future, the wealthy will modify their bodies, just like their ships.
  5. Uses a lot of these modules that are currently window dressing, but have amazing application. Things like blood pressure and reflex times and damage reduction and bio scanners and the HUD and incorporates it to a tiered clone system.
TLDR is We need a Cyberpunk / Eve style futuristic bio medical system with weapons and implants that completely change a persons capabilities and a jump clone system that reflects this. T5-T1 clones 5 being a throwaway and 1 being a Spartan from Halo. T1 would have the exact HUD we have now with additional systems. T4 and less is like the game in photo mode with nothing. People take for granted how much information you get from the HUD and who would really have access to it?
The beauty of this is while it sounds like a lot and would add 25-50% more careers, economys, gameplay and strategy’s from a gameplay perspective. Its actually not much at all from a development point of view. It would reuse all of the current systems now, and add a few skills like scanning / hacking and weapons like EMP, Darts to humans. Generally, this is how it would work.
T5 clone is a meat bag with a 4 hour life used as a spare tire. It’s the base level. Operated similar to when you’re drunk because The damage from the cryo. You can do stuff, but you are very limited. They can be carried around in 1 SCU containers or special lockers in big ships for dangerous work like reactor repairs etc.
T4 clone is a meatbag the same we are inhabiting right now IRL. Basically this is exactly like you turning off the game hud in photo mode. These cannot be cold stored and reused. No HUD or endgame information input at all outside of your Moby glass watch.
T3 clone is the first of the implants. It can take one implant. Combat might allow thermal vision or the local map and radar and crosshair. Exploration might have the ability to bookmark or see things on your HUD that you scanned from your ship. Conversation might add elements to charisma and talking people into doing things, getting better prices on goods, or hearing rumors about opportunities, etc. Covert allow you to scan people and check their inventory and run checks on who they are, what crimes they have committed, etc.
Basically it’s a stripped down version of the hud that’s active all the time even without helmets. It has to work in tandem with your mobi. You have to select one element.
T2 clone has upgraded reflexes, can run longer, survive more dmg and has the complete HUD suite. It has the bandwidth and upgrades to support 1 implant and 1 physical modification. Everything CIG has been adding can be added to the HUD but you have to switch between exploration, combat, conversation, covert etc. 1 physiological mod or weapon. Like a brain hacking chip that can open ship doors, and emp that shut down all electronics in a 20 m radius for 15 seconds or a drone or fiber optics camera. Then there are all the illegal modifications like hidden blades, Multi launchers with everything from neurotoxin to EMP darts.
T1 clone is very costly and made for combat and for solo explorers who need complete autonomy. 20% more hp, and basically 20% better everything. It has the complete HUD with the ability to Connect to the data stream of two ships in your party. If your buddys ship detect an enemy ship coming in it would pop up in your actual vision as a big red square with information. You would have the ability to zoom without a helmet on and have limited scanning just like your ships function on everything.
It could 2 implants. 1 legal and 1 illegal implant. Emp, Hacker etc
It also has two physical modifications. Blades, darts etc
Also the tier 2 and 1 are the only clones that are not harmed using heavy or power armor. The others are slowly harmed by s by the rapid and jarring servos, etc. so they are all time limited.
Imagine how amazing this would make the universe in general. You would have ripper docs implanting stolen, or military implants. Corpses would now be valuable if they had upgraded organs for implants. People would become targets just for their implants.
If you killed an assassin coming after you, you could take his cool tools.
Sometimes corpses could be worth as much as a ship. You could actually ransom back bodies.
You could have a repo men coming to collect the implants. Organ traders and human traffickers.
But it would also make T1 and 2 ships completely necessary in combat because they were the only ones who could rec clone military units.
Best of all. All of this code is already there. All of the heads up display and all these cool features they’ve been adding Would be the implants themselves.
The game the Way it is it doesn’t make sense that a Moby glass can produce all of this data. It makes the game more immersive as well.
It doesn’t have to be over the top like cyberpunk. But we almost have brain implants now and everything is going wireless, you really think in the future they’re gonna be wearing a wristwatch? Everything will be brain implant and wetware.
With these easy changes, we solve our medical problems and add a ton of depth along with the ability to add as much depth as we want.
All you would need is to create the UI for this, but the game already has a lot of that with its biological scanners. All the balancing could happen by biologically if you’re using implants, etc.
Jump clones would cost a lot of money to make, and healthcare in real life is one of the most expensive things. But just like the hospital doesn’t make you pay your bill the moment you’re out of surgery, we need to spread the cost to a later time.
The time the player needs to respawn is usually after they have already planned and loaded up and executed, but didn’t succeed. This is time where casual players set aside their block of playable hours. (when the kids are asleep and wife is watching something etc) So by making it too costly at that moment, ( 30 minutes to an hour, getting geared up and in ship flying back) your odds are they will just quit, which is not engaging for other players and your odds of a major war or event go down drastically. What’s good for the game and what was so successful in Eve was the fights after the opening.
Instead the front loading all the time investment, Charge 5-25k for the biomaterial. spread the cost of the death to a later time and let them pay off their debt when they log back in.
We also want to make the smaller tier 3 ships necessary while not killing the t1 and 2 beds.

2024.05.14 21:44 SirokoGajou The Origin of the Kingdom of the Siroverse

The Origin of the Kingdom of the Siroverse
"Please take care of my Daughters, Koneko, Kuroka and Silia"
It's New Years Eve in 2019, Rias Gremory realises that her Rook, Koneko Toujou, has almost no will to live despite her tries to free her from the darkness and Trauma she got when her Sister Kuroka killed her Father (who killed their Mother, because he wanted the Neko Powers) to save them. Rias then got an Idea. The Sage of the Nekoshou-Whisperer. A Myth of a Guy who is everything a Neko needs emotionally. So she started investigating, looks at many parallel Universes to find a Signal of the last Nekoshou-Whisperer. Weeks go by and Rias has almost given up her hope of finding him. She even got Kuroka to her place to comfort her Sister, knowing her will to live is even smaller than Koneko's. But then, on the 29th of January, Rias stumbles across the Earth and gets a Signal from Switzerland. Desperate she decides to fly across the whole Country to find the origin of the Signal and after a Couple of Hours, she finds a Guy with a red Kitten on his Lap. Rias immediatly recognises the fur pattern and almost starts crying, cause she knew who that Guy is. The Sage wasn't a Myth. It's Siro Gajou, the last Nekoshou-Whisperer, but he has even less will to live then Koneko and Kuroka combined. She quickly calls them and asks Siro for help. "Finally you have come, Rias Gremory. I've been waiting for you, since I got this Kitten. My pain will soon be over" Siro says. Rias replies "..How'd you know about all that? And what has Silia to do with it?" Rias was very confused but Siro remained calm "Thats something I'll explain later. For now, we have to make sure that the three Nekos will go to a Safe Place to heal. I know you can create temporary Parallel Universes. By transferring the abilities of all your Chess Figures at the same time to you, you will get the ability to create a Parallel Universe permanently. But you have to use this, to cut it open" Siro points to a brown Sword that has the color pattern of a nordic Flag but with more colors. "This is Sirado. The stronger the Mental Power of the User, the stronger this Sword cuts. If the Mental Power is strong enough and the wielder focuses, it can cut through time and by using the Power of the Gremory Chess Pieces combined, it can create a completly new World with the "Time cutter" and you'll become the God of it, that can freely move in and out of it" he explains and continues: "I know how much these two mean to you, so once you cut it open, I'll jump in with the three of them. But beware. If you don't focus enough, it can Kill us once we go in. I trust you, Rias" ans hands her the Sirado. Rias takes her Chess Pieces and puts all the Power on the King. She starts focusing which leads to so much Power that there's an Earthquake. Siro just holds the three Nekos tight, so they won't fly away of the pressure. "Ok, Siro, I think I'm ready." Rias confirms and holds the Sword, "With this Cut, I, Rias Gremory will create a permanent Parallel Universe and become your God. Please heal them! TIME CUTTER!" She cuts a Hole and Siro jumps in, holsing the three Nekos with him. A few Hours later they wake up in a Castle in the middle of nowhere. Confused on why there's a Castle Siro looks around and sees Rias, "Hello. I apologise in advantage but in those hours you were unconcious I was reading your FanFics. They all had a King in it, so I thought I put a Castle on the Land for you. Here, your Sirado" Rias says and hands Siro his sword back. Siro was confused but happy that it worked with the Time Cutter, "King? Castle? Why are you reading my FanFics without permission? And why the Hell did you put a Castle in the Middle of nowhere? A small House works just fine, surely that cost you a bit to much of your divine Powers, no?" Siro had so many Questions that he had to sit down. Shortly after, Koneko and Kuroka wake up. "Aah, I see the Nekos have awaken" Rias says. "I will stay here for a while and make sure you start well here. And Siro?" Rias looks at him and gives him a Crown. "Uuh, thanks for the Crown but I'm not a King" he says, Rias just laughs and answers, "Not yet Dummy :P. I hereby declare you to the King of this Land. I'm sure you will build this to a wonderful Place. Long live King Siro Gajou!" Siro is flabbergasted. "King? Me?" Rias laughs again "Since you are the one that basically made me a God, I think I can do that. And now, my King, you shall give this World a Name." Siro thinks a bit, takes his Sirado and says "I, King Siro, from now on call this Land The Kingdom of the Siroverse! I will make this Place perfect every Single future resident!" Amazed by the Confidence of King Siro, Koneko and Kuroka shyly ask Rias that they want to stay with him and ask for permission, which Rias gives. "Before I go, I created some PU Versions of a few Characters, so it isn't lonely here. They are part of the royal Gajou Family and who knows, maybe Koneko and Kuroka soon join too. Take care of them, King Siro"
And so it was settled, the siroversian Kingdom was born
Now, 5 Years later, Rias was right, the Nekos became a Part of the Gajou Family. They are Siro's Wives and with that the Queens of the siroverse and they have 4 Kids together (One Boy and Girl each). King Siro also made Chess Pieces for his Family
The siroversian Kingdom is now ruled by the eight Clans, founded from the Gajou Family to give everyone a specific Area to take care of and these are those eight Clans, leading the Siroverse
The God of Culture Clan is leaded by King Siro
The Wholesome Yuri Clan is leaded by the siroversian Dukes Sira Gajou and her Girlfriend Silia Galliker-Toujou, Siro's Bishops
The Royal Kitten Clan is leaded by the siroversian Queens Koneko and Kuroka Toujou Gajou, Siro's Queens
The Blue Archive Clan is leaded by the siroversian Princesses Shiroko Sunaookami Gajou (Daughter of Siro and Koneko) and Serika Kuromi Gajou (Daughter of Siro and Kuroka), Siro's Rooks
The Fiction United Clan is leaded by the siroversian Princes Sineko Gajou (Son of Siro and Kuroka) and Satsuri Gajou (Son of Siro and Koneko), Siro's Knights
The Vampire Priests Clan is leaded by Baroness Asia Argento Gajou and Baron Gasper Vladi Gajou, King Siro's younger Siblings, Pawns that got promoted to Bishops
The Fighting Thieves Clan is leaded by Countess Jade Heliodor Gajou and Count Erik Camus Gajou, King Siro's older Siblings, Pawns that got promoted to Knights
The Galaxy Boomer Clan is leaded by Emperor Azazel Demon Gajou and Empress Rosalina Starbit Gajou, Pawns that got promoted to Rooks

2024.05.14 21:21 Responsible-Fig-1623 AITA For Making My Husband Christmas Eve Dinner because I didn’t Like my MIL’s Christmas Menu

I’m not a regular Reddit user so I hope I’m doing this right. I have wanted to tell Charlotte this story for so long. A little background first. My MIL is my husband’s stepmother. His real mother “disappeared “ when he was 5 years old and has never been found. Everyone knows that his dad murdered her, even the police but there’s never been enough evidence to convict him. He married my MIL, who he was dating at the time of my husband’s mom’s disappearance. They had a child then later divorced. I’ve gotten along with my MIL, her daughter and husband since we met and they ushered me into the family with open arms.
So one Christmas a few years ago, they wanted to have brunch for Christmas. My husband and I both wanted a traditional Christmas meal. So I asked her politely if we could just go over there the next day to do a present exchange. She said absolutely not. I said ok, that’s fine, we’ll be there.
I have trouble with depression. I have been on medication since my early 20s. I have 2 stepdaughters from my husband’s first marriage. They were 12 and 14 when we met. That year was particularly hard for me because they were grown up and had jobs. So no more Christmas vacation with them to play with all the fun presents they got. No making Christmas goodies and gingerbread houses with. No one to trim the trim with. No one to watch Christmas movies with, etc.
So I really wasn’t feeling the Christmas spirit that year to begin with. I thought I had come up with the perfect solution for the food situation that would make everyone happy. I made a full spread Christmas dinner at the last minute on Christmas Eve at my own house for me and my husband. I posted a pic of the food to Facebook and wished everyone a Merry Christmas, which I do every year.
When I got to my SIL house the next day, I thought everything was fine. Then my MIL got there. Everything was not fine. She said she saw my Facebook post. “That was a final F U to me wasn’t it?”, she asked. I said,”Absolutely not! I would never do that. (Hubby) wanted Christmas dinner. I made him Christmas dinner. It had nothing to do with you. And I always post Merry Christmas to Facebook with pics of dinner. “. “Oh, ok”, she said.
Later, someone was walking around with a video camera and I said something about not wanting to be on video, quietly to my husband but my MIL overheard. She had a camera for still pics and said, “Oh, I won’t post them on Facebook “. I said, “Oh, I don’t care about that.”
The rest of the day went fine. I don’t remember when I posted it but sometime during those 2 days I posted “Worst Christmas Ever”. I didn’t elaborate and I was thinking about not having kids to celebrate Christmas with anymore when I wrote that. It had absolutely nothing to do with my MIL family or what had happened with the Christmas meal situation.
On the way home I was looking at Facebook when I see a reply from my MIL sister who I have never met. Apparently, my MIL had told her about the whole thing and she decided to chew me out on my Facebook for being ungrateful and telling me how much her family loved me. So I replied that I didn’t say anything about them. Then my SIL chimed in with the fact that I didn’t invite my stepdaughters to my house for Christmas Eve dinner. #1She couldn’t have known that unless she asked them. #2 They don’t eat that kind of food. At Christmas they eat rolls and deviled eggs without the filling. One of them eats ham, the other one gets her own chicken. They don’t eat what I cook.
The next day I see pics of the festivities on Facebook without me and my husband so I said, “Where are me and (hubby)?” “You said you didn’t want to be in any pictures. “. “No, I didn’t. I said video. “. At this, my SIL makes a text chat group with me, my husband, her and her mom. She lays out everything as she thinks it’s unfolded over the past few days. (Side note: Because of losing his mom at 5 years old and hearing it happen outside his bedroom window, he has learning disabilities which has made him functionally illiterate. There’s no way he’s gonna read a long text thread and his sister knows that!). So, then I explain my side, including what was just a misunderstanding about the pictures. Then my MIL says to me, who DID NOT start this crap, BTW, “Too much drama mamma. “. So I said, “You wanna talk about drama?! You’re the reason my husband’s real mom is dead. “. She refuses to speak to me. I even apologized. She’s such a coward that she won’t even talk to her “son”. My husband said to me because I was upset that I had ruined his relationship with his “mom”“When we got married, we became one. If they stab you in the back, they stab me in the back. “.
This woman hates his ex-wife because she cheated on him. She even believes that one of his daughters isn’t his. (She is. ) But one Thanksgiving, I was uninvited to dinner at their hours because she was going to be there. My husband was though. He didn’t go.
So AITA?

2024.05.14 21:18 eiketsu Dealing with a Bad Board of Trustees

I should have thought to reach out to Reddit about this earlier. Here goes...
Our local library is awesome. It's a cornerstone of the community and a wonderful place for kids, full of activities and clubs and the like. This is due to a few particular individuals, but especially the director, who has made this place fantastic over the last few years.
Well, the board decided to fire her. Apparently, they've been meddlesome, 80's-era movie scumbags for a while, doing what they can to make her job hell, and they put the final nail into the coffin right about the time I thought I'd pursue the vacant trustee position, myself.
Long story short-ish, one of the nice old librarians had her phone hacked and at least one dick pic was sent out to various library groups, including groups that contain teens. The director immediately addressed the board leadership, as policy directed her to, was told she acted correctly, then was fired for not immediately going to the police about it, which wasn't policy.
The board told her she could either resign with a severance or be fired, but she chose to defend herself. She was pressured into signing something that said she was absolutely forbidden to discuss and part of this and unequivocally accepted any decision the board made, who would also not speak of it.
Unfortunately, they immediately started doing that, roving around the book club, "Something something, further director, something something MINORS! Gasp!" and have been actively sabotage replying l reemployment efforts in the field of not only the director, but the workers who walked out with her in solidarity, some of them still teens, themselves!
So, tonight is the meeting where I'm suddenly speaking before a board that has forbidden its remaining workers from contracting or even mentioning the former director, forbidden her from discussing the nature of her separation as they carry on as they like, and ultimately face that our beloved library may not be so for much longer. They have also proceeded to fire the custodian, a position they never had before her, only relied on the other workers to fill, and their event DJ, another hire of hers.
So, here are my questions. 1) Can they even do any of this? Coerce her into signing ostensibly legally binding paperwork that they then break, themselves? 2) Hide details of their decisions from the public? Isn't transparency part of the job? Don't they kind of work for us in that sense? 3) Do you think calling them out for this will even change anything?
I'm going to research more policy before tonight's meeting (they've also since mandated that policy information must be printed out at a fee to the individual, rather than something public and reasonably accessible), but would really like to know if I have a leg to stand on. Any help would be truly appreciated.

2024.05.14 20:55 Least_Animator4003 Season 3 Suggestions

- A skirmish mode that acts as a regular, selectable game mode for the most casual form of play, but that you can also que in for while waiting for a match. This would give a good battleground to test out new gadgets or have fun in while waiting for a third in your party, also helps deal with longer que times.
- A mega-team battle game mode, call it "GigaByte" or something to denote size and stay in theme. The latest additions were amazing, I think it'd be a good experiment to take it even further with a 10v10 mode like king-of-the-hill and see how that fares for map size.
- The music in this game is 10/10. But I feel like there were less overall tracks played this season. Just have a continuous playlist of all old and new OST playing throughout or an option for seasonal music.
- I don't think there's any shame in a donation link within the slide show of microtransactions. It would provide an alternative portal for players to help fund the game they love to play. Maybe have a donator's badge as a small reward.
- Better combats against hacking. It's not as prevalent as before so Embarks in the right direction but anything above "anomalous" cheating could kill a game's momentum.
- Catch up to speed with social features. "Que with the same team?" Text chat. Better visual ques with voice chat. End-of-match voice chat enabled for all teams to hear each other. Those moving emoticon cosmetics could be used for something too I think.
- Final kill cam/last-minute steal, this could be a good opportunity to utilize the AI announcers too.
- Improved streaming support and marketing. I'm not a streamer but a "featured creators" section or creator tools would be cool to see.

2024.05.14 20:40 Personal-Reach352 What in the Gen-Z?

I’m beyond frustrated with some of my Gen-Z coworkers who are fresh out of law school. They seem to think that the legal profession stops at 5 PM and don’t grasp the level of responsibility required.
Case in point: I recently assigned an associate to draft a motion for summary judgment. Instead, she handed me a complaint. The complaint had already been filed, and she decided to draft another one. I mean, how does one think the action is initiated? This shows me that she didn’t review the docket, didn’t check the calendar, and didn’t read my email with the assignment fully.
Now, with the deadline in two days, she refuses to work after hours to fix her error, citing the need to set clear boundaries. The lack of communication is astonishing—she was asking her clueless desk neighbor for advice instead of coming to me, the person who assigned the task and is familiar with the case.
And to top it off, she had the audacity to ask for a template on how to draft a motion for summary judgment in response? She has access to all of our files. She has access to other cases. She has access to Lexis. I now need to STOP what I’m doing and make sure you get something that you can copy and paste from? Law schools need to do better. Honestly, close the doors because I learned something completely different. These grads need to understand the realities of the profession they chose.
I'm five years out of law school, finally with the authority to make assignments. I strive to be a supportive manager and mentor, but there's only so much one can take. I've always burned the midnight oil to meet deadlines, while she’s had this assignment for 2.5 weeks with barely any interruptions. It's mind-boggling that she turned in a complaint instead of a fully drafted motion. This isn’t an isolated incident with our new associates—they seem to lack a basic sense of urgency and responsibility. Most of them are pending admission and expect me to catch every error before submission, but ultimately, my name is on the filing. Now, I brace myself to receive a subpar product on the eve of the deadline and will have to use every waking hour to salvage it. Despite being relatively young in the profession, I would never treat someone who entrusted me with an assignment this way.
Has anyone else been dealing with this? How do you handle such situations? I want to ensure we're fostering growth and responsibility, but this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
EDIT: Contemplating deleting this because I didn’t realize it would spark such a fight.
The associate is getting me another draft by 5 PM to take over for the next day. In reality, I’m still learning. I’m still working and I have spent the past five years drinking from a fire hydrant with little to no help. I’ve never managed others before but look at them for assistance to take things off my plate.
It gets frustrating to have this idea of a profession versus a job engraved in me and to see others forget it. I work so late and have no personal life. Admittedly, I wrote this out of frustration of having to pick up the slack from everyone else. I have had four different clerks/associates do all the same things with different assignments. One actually quit while I was informing him of his mistakes and said it was my job to fix the problem not his. It’s a trend that I’m observing with those fresh to field. Five years ago I would have been so afraid to say something like that.
This associate is new and been here six months. I’m not a part of our training staff. I’m not a part of our hiring staff. But I’ve realized that I need to be a part of her training to avoid things like this from happening again. We could have had a conversation prior and perhaps resolved this. I’m committed to doing better.
Thanks for all the feedback.

2024.05.14 20:39 Sugondese-Balls Just Got Back My Hacked (and Suspended) Facebook Account

Hey everyone,
After a few weeks scrolling through this subreddit and trying every single way to get my account back, finally something has worked! Such a relief after all the hours spent doing Facebook's job.
My situation:
Facebook account got hacked, the hacker created an Instagram account, linked it to mine, and got it suspended immediately. I was then stuck in a loop trying to appeal the suspension while Facebook was asking me to log into the hacker's Instagram account.
Here is what I did:
  1. Email [escalations@cases.meta.com](mailto:escalations@cases.meta.com) telling them everything that happened. You should get an automated email saying they opened a case.
  2. Go to this link and fill in the form (if you are not from Europe, you have to use a VPN to a European country). I'm from the UK and used a French location. Link here: https://facebook.com/help/contact/837980354337486
  3. You should get an automated email saying a case has been opened. Wait approximately 8 hours for a response.
  4. My first 2 responses were identical emails basically telling me to go f myself. However, on the third response they gave me a code and asked me to record myself holding the code. Got my account back a couple hours after that.
  5. (Although my account is back, the hacker changed the name of my business account, and Facebook is telling me I have to wait 60 days to change it back. If anyone had luck recovering their business name quicker than that please comment!)
I did slightly change the text explaining my situation on the third attempt, I don't know if it had any impact on whether cases get accepted or rejected. I used less text and tried to be as concise as possible, and I also provided a (broken) link to my business Facebook page.
So for anyone struggling to get their account back I'd suggest filling out that form, waiting for a response, and then filling it out again as many times as necessary until they send you the email detailing the next steps.
If they are still sending you the same generic rejection email, you might have to start altering some of your form inputs (e.g. if you put the wrong profile link, or did not include all the devices you used to recently log into Facebook).
Best of luck to all of you and screw Facebook!

2024.05.14 20:26 samw_99 My story “I got grabbed” was removed

Can someone explain to me specifically why this was removed, and how I’d be able to edit it without defeating the purpose of the entire story?
It was removed for breach of the “CORROBORATION/PROOF” rule, though after reviewing those terms, I don’t believe that I’ve broken them.
“A dream, a nightmare, a hallucination, a vision, a bout of sleep paralysis, is drunk and/or high, was in a coma or otherwise an altered state”— none of these are the reason behind my main character’s paranormal experience, and I’ve given no indication whatsoever in the story to suggest that they are.
In fact, I’ve outright denied the idea that my main character imagined her experience about as much as I possibly could for a story with a first person perspective.
The main character says “it definitely happened. It’s not the kind of thing you can just imagine, and I’m sure now that it wasn’t a dream,” in the second paragraph— a sentiment which she consistently attests to throughout the story, and a sentiment which is never walked back on or brought into question by the narrator.
My narrator was in a sound state of mind at the moment of her encounter, and is practical and methodical in her investigation of what happened. Any implication that she has become mentally unwell occurs long after the inciting incident which the story is built around.
I would like to respectfully request that this story be reevaluated. In the short time that it was active on nosleep, it clearly connected with people. If it cannot stand as is, then I need someone to help me make it fit the guidelines without defeating the entire purpose of the story and betraying its themes.
The nosleep subreddit is filled to the brim with stories in which the narrator’s words are taken at face value. When a narrator in a different story says “I walked to the store,” it’s not like the author HAS to give tactile, irrefutable evidence that the narrator actually walked to the store. The audience simply accepts that the narrator walked to the store. This concept of innate credibility is the bedrock upon which my entire story is built.
I do not believe my work would benefit from being altered to fit these guidelines as rigidly as possible, nor do I think that is a fair standard to hold it to. In fact, if I were to change the contents of my story in such a way, the themes which set it apart from others like it would be lost.
In short, I do not understand why my story was deleted, I do not know how to alter it to fit the guidelines beyond any shadow of a doubt without destroying its central purpose, and I refuse to believe that nosleep is not the right place for this work. I implore you to reconsider my submission, or to at least work with me to find a solution which keeps the story’s themes intact.
Here is my story:
I got grabbed
Last night, when I was home alone, a hand reached out from under the couch and grabbed me.
Nobody was there to see it, and nobody that I’ve told believes me, but it definitely happened. It’s not the kind of thing you can just imagine, and I’m sure now that it wasn’t a dream.
I was watching TV when it happened. The remote fell under the couch and I started fishing around for it without really looking, not wanting to get up from my seat. I brushed it with the tips of my fingers and it slid further underneath.
I was super annoyed— I had to get down on my knees to reach it. I finally found the remote, and that’s when it grabbed me.
As I pulled the remote out into the light, a hand shot up from under the couch and wrapped its fingers around my wrist.
I was able to yank myself away quickly. It didn’t hold on tight— just enough that I felt a little resistance. I jumped to my feet, obviously terrified.
I didn’t scream or anything. I was honestly too scared to even make a sound. My heart was beating so fast that my ears started to ring. The TV was still going, commercials droning on while I tried to process what had just happened.
The hand had only come out about a foot from under the couch. It had an arm attached to it, though I wasn’t able to see past its elbow, and it slinked back below the couch as soon as I pulled myself free from its grasp.
It didn’t hurt, and it didn’t leave any sort of bruise or mark or anything on my wrist, but I definitely felt it, and I definitely saw it.
All I could do was stare at the spot where the hand had appeared. I stood there for what felt like an eternity, until I heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps right outside my front door.
I live in a second-story apartment. It’s a pretty cramped place and a pretty old building, so whenever someone comes over I can usually hear footsteps from the moment they enter the building downstairs.
I guess I was so freaked out by the hand that I didn’t even notice someone was outside until they were already opening the door.
My roommate walked in on quite a scene. She immediately registered how off the vibe was. I could see it on her face.
She found me standing upright in the middle of our living room, TV remote in hand, facing away from the screen while Full House’s laugh track filled the air. I’m sure I’d think it was odd too.
“Hey…” she said, shifting a paper bag full of groceries in her arm while she pocketed her keys, “You good?”
I felt like I was caught with my pants down, but just seeing a familiar face brought some of the blood back to my fingers.
“N—yeah,” I stuttered. I came back online, and flicked the TV off.
I felt her eyes on me as she walked over to the kitchen. There’s no wall or anything dividing the two rooms. Like I said, the place is pretty cramped.
She started putting her groceries away as if everything was normal, but I could tell she wanted to ask what was up.
I kept looking back and forth between her and the couch. I can’t explain it, but I already knew that if I looked under there, I wouldn’t find any trace of whoever (or whatever) grabbed me.
As she started loading up the fridge, I dropped to my hands and knees once again. Without taking even a second to ready myself, I brought my head down to the ground and looked under the couch.
Nothing.
Pretty much what I expected. There was barely enough room for me to squeeze my arm under there for the remote. No way a whole person could fit beneath that thing, and even if they could, there’s no way I wouldn’t have seen them or heard them or something before they grabbed me.
“Seriously, what’s up?”
I looked up to see my roommate standing right behind me, arms crossed, clearly concerned.
I knew I was acting strange, and I knew that nothing I would come up with in the next five seconds could possibly excuse my behavior. I made a judgement call, honestly not really caring about how it would be received.
“I uh… something grabbed me earlier.”
“What?”
“Under the couch. I dropped the remote, and when I picked it up, a hand reached out from under the couch and grabbed me.”
Took her a second to respond.
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
“That’s it. A hand reached out and grabbed me by the wrist. It happened like a minute before you got here.”
That part might have been a lie. I actually have no idea how long I had been standing in the middle of the room before she showed up.
“Wait so like someone broke in?”
“No. It’s just like I said. A hand reached out, grabbed me, and then it was gone.”
She just kinda looked at me for a while. I don’t blame her, but it’s not like there was any way for me to sugarcoat it.
“Are you sure?”
“What do you mean ‘am I sure?’ Yes, yes I’m fucking sure!”
My voice broke a little when I said that. I was still down on my knees, like I was praying for her to believe me.
“Okay well obviously that didn’t happen Sam.”I let out a desperate laugh and threw my hands up in the air. I slapped them down on my thighs dramatically and shook my head in exasperation.
“Yeah obviously it sounds fucking crazy but you asked what happened and that’s what happened. I don’t know how else to describe it. I’m just being honest.”
I pulled myself up to my feet and walked around to the armrest of the couch. She kept studying me, probably thinking this was all a prank or something.
“What are you doing?” She asked, arms still glued across her chest.
“I’m checking under the couch.”
I pushed one end of the couch away from the wall. It was pretty heavy, and the coffee table stopped me from moving it too far. I dragged the coffee table towards the TV to free up some space.
My roommate started staring at the spot I was clearing as if she expected to see something there too.
I went back over to the armrest.
“Can you help me?”
She snapped out of her trance and silently went to grab the other side. We pulled the couch away from the wall, revealing a thick rectangle of dust that had not seen the light of day since we moved in a year ago.
I dropped to my knees once more and began wiping away the grime with my bare hands. There was nothing but the floorboards beneath it. No surprise.
I sat there for a second, eyes darting around the floor. No fingerprints in the dust, no scratches or marks or anything. I felt the tension in the room dissipate as my roommate found her voice again.
“I think you must have imagined it.”
I didn’t. There’s no way.
“Dude, no. I felt it and I saw it. Clear as day. It was a hand, and it grabbed me. That’s not the sort of thing you can just imagine.”
She scoffed, any fear left in her giving way to frustration.
“Whatever. This is fucking stupid. I’m going to bed.”
She stomped off towards her room.
“Wait.”
She spun on her heels as I stood up, probably expecting me to tell her I was joking about the whole thing.
“Can you help me flip the couch over?”
She rolled her eyes.
“Sure. But I’m not helping you put it back.”
She helped me lift the couch off of its legs and tilt it onto its front cushions, exposing the fabric underneath. She disappeared into her room and I went to work studying the underside of the sofa.
There was a zipper lining the bottom, but I found nothing inside when I opened it up. Just a hollow wooden frame and a bunch of crumbs.
I sat back against the wall, more tired than scared at that point.
I can’t believe she thinks I’m making this up. Why would I even do that? What purpose would it serve?
As I solemnly went about rebuilding our living room, I decided that the next day (today) I was gonna take off work, wait for her to leave, and really get to the bottom of this.
I didn’t sleep at all last night. Every nook and cranny of my room felt like a door left wide open, with something sinister waiting on the other side.
What if the hand comes back? What if it wants to hurt me next time? How can I even protect myself?
After like ten restless minutes in bed, I decided to move to the floor. I couldn’t help it. I kept imagining the hand reaching up from under the bed and grabbing me again.
I made a makeshift sleeping bag out of my comforter and some pillows, and I laid on my side so I could keep an eye on the underside of my bedframe while I slept. Maybe “slept” isn’t the right word. Even down there, I couldn’t bring myself to close my eyes for longer than a minute.
Eventually sunlight began to peek through the blinds, and I heard some movement within the apartment. My roommate was finally up. I heard the front door close, and it was time to get to work.
I nearly threw my back out yanking the couch away from the wall to reveal the floorboards underneath. They aren’t real floorboards, just the kind of cheap-o fake shit they put in crappy houses to make them look more modern. Our whole apartment is like that— a thin coat of paint slapped over an old building from the 40s or whatever.
My dad actually owns this building. He lets me and my roommate stay here as long as we pay him $500 a month, which is way cheaper than most places in my area.
It’s not really an apartment building to be honest. You can tell it used to be a family home before some realtor swooped in and broke it up into apartments. There are a lot of those around here.
Anyway, the fake wood came up easy. It was only about a quarter inch thick. I was able to pull up the first plank by hammering a kitchen knife into a slit between the boards, and then I peeled a few more away by hand.
After prying away about a dozen of these fake floorboards, I started to realize that I wasn’t going to find anything without making a significantly larger dent. Right beneath the thin layer of fake wood was a layer of very real, very thick wooden beams that seemed to span well beyond the hole I had managed to claw open.
My back crackled and popped as I sat back on my heels to admire my handiwork and contemplate where to go from there. I knew I would need a power saw or some kind of heavy duty tool to get any deeper, but I was afraid of two things:
  1. That these beams were supporting the entire second floor of the building, and cutting through them would make the whole thing collapse
  2. That going any deeper would lead me into the ceiling of the apartment below us, and whoever lives there would call my dad before I could see what I needed to see.
Regardless of the risks, I knew I had to keep going. I was certain that something was down there. Whatever grabbed me had to have left some sort of evidence.
I can’t stop thinking about that fucking hand.
I’m not supposed to have it, but my dad gave me a master key for the whole building in case of emergencies. He could really get in trouble if anyone found out, but if this isn’t an emergency then idk what is.
There’s a service shed around the back of the building, which has seen none of the love that the main building saw when it was renovated. Decades worth of rusty antiques and rotting furniture line the walls. A shiny, modern tool bench sits unnaturally in the middle of the chaos.
I rifled through all of that shit as fast as I could. I’m not really close with my dad all things considered, and I’m sure he’d be super pissed if he found me out there. He’s so secretive about random shit all the time, and he’s constantly dropping by the building unannounced.
I found the jigsaw under a pile of old newspapers and ran back upstairs.
I probably should have checked the driveway to see if anyone was home first, because the saw made so much noise. The cord barely reached from the outlet to the spot where the couch used to be, but as awkward as the angle was, I was still able to get it in there.
I went as small as possible with my first few cuts. I started with a single beam, cutting out a section about 6x6 inches wide. I slid the chunk of wood out, and, to my relief, didn’t immediately see the plaster that would be my downstairs neighbor’s ceiling.
A tuft of insulation stuck out where I made the hole. I didn’t know that stuff is made from fiberglass or whatever, and I got a really bad splinter when I went to yank it out.
I fished some leather gloves out of my roommate’s closet and got to work on the insulation. I pulled and pulled but couldn’t get a good enough grip to remove anything more than a few bits about the size of a tennis ball.
I went back in with the jigsaw, cutting bigger and bigger chunks until I had cleared a hole about two feet in diameter.
No sign that I was gonna bring the building down, that’s good.
I hacked away for hours. More wood came up, more insulation came up, and when I finally hit a fragile-looking layer of drywall, I knew the jig was up. That’s definitely my neighbor’s ceiling. Fuck.
My roommate and I got in a screaming match when she got home. I made a pretty big mess but I don’t really give a fuck honestly.
I don’t give a fuck if she believes me. I fucking hate that bitch. I told her if she tells my dad what I’m doing, I’ll bash her brains in with the hammer. That shut her up. She left with a bag full of her clothes like an hour later.
Tomorrow I’m going to wait for our downstairs neighbor to leave and start investigating from the bottom-up. If there wasn’t any evidence on the floor up here, there HAS to be something on the ceiling down there.
If I do find something, I’ll post again. I doubt anyone will even believe me, but at this point I just want everything written down somewhere accessible in case something bad happens.
There has to be something down there. Something grabbed me. And I’m going to find out what it is.

2024.05.14 19:50 IIsForInglip Finally beat Side Order with the dualies....

I beat it first with the splattershot, and I've still got all the other palettes to do (I've gotten past floor 20 on several of them) but man this stuff gets rough. I've managed to unlock a lot of the hacks and that's probably why I finally beat dualies. I also got a several ink damage chips, dodge roll attack, and had Pearl tricked out with the killer wail and burst bombs. Oh yeah, and I got the Trizooka from a vending machine (which helped a ton with crowd control) and a bunch of floors with color saturation bonuses.
Note to self, increasing fire rate is a double-edged sword... you can do a ton more damage but you run out of ink super fast! Found this out when I got a red chip saturation on one floor.

2024.05.14 19:39 PhantasmagoriaLuna Phantasphere- Genocide Reigns Part 2

Genocide looked to the sky. He thought of his mentor. The one who had saved him. He remembered his childhood. How powerless he was. He remembered the anger. He never wanted to hurt anybody. He thought of all the times he showed compassion. How much they hurt him for it. He saw the world before him, a graveyard. Humans. People that were supposed to be made in the image of some divine creator. They were but maggots feasting upon his remains. They ate away at his very being until nothing human remained. His thoughts were no longer his own. He had no joys in life that mattered. He hated humanity more than he could love anything about himself. He remember his first killing spree. Being gunned down by police. Left for dead. He remembered a hooded figure moving towards him. Getting closer the more he neared his death. He saw its pale face. Its impossibly black eyes. It was a man. This figure in question appeared to be of Japanese nationality with long, straight, loose hair. It emanated extreme malice. It offered him a choice. A purpose. Power. He thought the figure a reaper but it identified itself as Amakusa Masataka. Masataka guided him on how to kill and gave him specific locations to kill people in. In a sense, he became a hitman for quotas of people. He inquired what Masataka was. The presence of evil, his ability to appear and disappear at will, how he could control what people could see him and what people couldn't. While vague, years of killing for this being offered some insight. Amakusa Masataka belonged to a group of people not of this world. His people had been corrupted by a dark force long ago and had aligned themselves with the warlord who had subjugated their version of Japan. Their dark high priest assisted the warlord along with two others. These four rulers in turn served a larger order. The four were tasked with bringing about the end of the current world as an act of retribution for some fallen deity. Masataka's people acted as covert operatives for this empire. They were feared across the land and were collectively referred to as "Shinigami". An agent of the coming apocalypse, a servant of evil possessed by the will of those gods of death, Genocide would walk the earth.
Genocide stepped toward the station. A police cruiser rammed into him. He pulled out a knife and stabbed the hood of the car. The inhuman force of the knife created sparks which burst the engine into flames. The car crashed into a streetlight and exploded. A second cruiser neared the scene. No way a man could have done this. Yet still, out of the fires Genocide strode forth. It set upon the second vehicle, shooting out it's tires while jumping 9 feet into the air. The car tries to reverse but crashes into a wall. Genocide lands on the hood and kicks through the front window. Glass shatters under its boot, blinding the two officers inside. Genocide shoots one of the officers with a shotgun, killing him. The second officer in the passenger seat readies his pistol and takes aim. Only two shots fired, both directed at Genocide's head. It casually cocks its neck to avoid them. Then it grabs the officer's arm, breaking it. Genocide uses its free hand to grab the officer's head and bangs it into the dashboard no less than 5 times. The skull is shattered on the final impact. Genocide jumps off the car and continues on his mission.
Detective Evans speaks through a megaphone," This is your first and final warning. Stand down or we will use any and all means at our disposal to put you down." Genocide dropped its shotgun and raised its hands. A group of five SWAT team members rushed out the station, surrounding Genocide with riot shields. An officer accompanies them, edging behind the figure to apply handcuffs. Suddenly, Genocide springs to life , grabbing the officer behind him. He flips the officer over his head, slamming him into the pavement at his feet. Then Genocide stomps his head causing it to burst. Genocide drops a flash bomb from his coat sleeve, blinding the SWAT team as he draws his knife. He drives it into one SWAT member, the knife puncturing the shield and piercing his chest. Genocide kicks the corpse away withdrawing his knife. He goes to another, this time using the end of his boot toe in a rising kick to disarm their shield. He grabs them by the throat and drives the knife slowly into their eye socket. Another is tackled to the ground and beaten to death despite still being under the shield. Another is picked up and thrown into the fires still burning from the first auto incident. In no time, Genocide stood before an indistinguishable mass of gore, blood streaking across his black leather outfit. He laughed" So this is all you can give me. I'm not entertained." Officers took aim from the station windows, and snipers did so from other rooftops. Genocide laughed maniacally as he was rained down upon from all sides by a hailstorm of bullets. His body convulsed, but he did not fall. Moments more and he was on his knees. Still though, their efforts were futile. Gracia looked out and saw a black mist coalescing around the man in black. His blood. Blood erupted from his body only to transform into this dark mist that reentered his wounds. Genocide screamed. No. It was just an elevated pitch in his laughter. Optimism failed everyone yet again. Gracia saw Genocide holding something in his right hand. She could only make out a beeping red light. Genocide pushed the button triggering the carefully concealed explosives he laid in preparation for this event. C4 explosives went off in all the places he saw fit. The sniping posts he couldn't reach. The assault of lead lightened. Then Genocide drew an RPG from...somewhere. He collected himself and fired at the station's entrance. The explosion shook the station. From inside, the lights began to flicker. Communications were down on all fronts. Had he modified the rocket with some type of EMP? Not good. Amisdst the confusion Genocide entered using smoke bombs to mask his presence. Moving like a shadow, he killed everyone in the lobby silently with his knife. He made his way to the holding cells. Still they chanted. Still they praised. Still they raved for the arrival of genocide. Genocide shot the lock opening the cell. Jim Jimenez walked out and bowed before his master. Genocide smiled. He couldn't have imagined how proficient he had gotten with possession. Well, not quite possession. He had known of the Shinigami's ability to share their thoughts and emotions with humans. Shinigami like his mentor were ancient. They had so many years of memories, such strong a hatred for life that they overwhelmed the personality of the victim. The victim sees themselves as one of them. Shinigami can't force the will of the victim, so they find those who are already similar to them in some way. Genocide found the collective universal distrust of police to be a prime sentiment to capitalize on. He armed the inmates, infecting them with samples of his own dark essence. One particular inmate caught Genocide's eye. He knew the man's work. An arsonist. The one whom he recalls was responsible for blowing up his first car way back in high school. Rather than a standard firearm, Genocide gave the man a random assortment of grenades containing a special surprise. Genocide showed them visions of anarchy, of sending a message to a society that used and disregarded them. While this was also true of how he felt, years of living in darkness had changed him. He needed no purpose. No end goal. No justification. He just wanted to watch the world burn.
Genocide's small army broke off to engage several different wings of the station. Genocide went to the security room. He found Wayne, his informant, playing some FPS on one of the monitors. Wayne took of his headphones and asked," You kill everyone yet?" Genocide responded," No. You should get going before that happens. Your life becomes fair game if I run out of pigs to cook." Wayne clapped his hands, "Aight, GC my man, say less." He packed his things and left. Genocide drew a twin pair of handguns and laid waste to the station. He followed a group that took cover in the men's restroom. Kicking open multiple stalls he was surprised to find...nothing. Where had they gone? He turned around and saw his mentor, Masataka, smiling at him. It looked like him. Long, dark hair, black clothing, and soulless, empty eyes. But it wasn't. It was Genocide's own reflection in the mirror. Genocide smiled. He didn't notice the changes at first. They must have happened gradually. Subconsciously. From the final stall, an officer sprung into action, rushing Genocide, hitting him point blank with a shockgun round. Genocide felt the tingling sensation electrifying his body and grew numb. In spite of the pain, he took a single step. Then, another. He came within striking range of the officer and snatched the shockgun. Two more officers erupted from another stall, battering him with baton strikes. Genocide felt nothing. He clutched the shockgun in his hand like a bat and went to work pulverizing his attackers. An officer kicked in the bathroom door, a woman holding a pistol. She fired multiple times to no effect. Genocide stood covered in blood. He even let her reload. Twice. He wanted to see her despair. Her hopelessness. He walked towards her, shrugging off bullets as they pierced his body. His wounds healed nigh instantly due to the dark essence he had been imbued with. He held her face with both hands, lifting her body off the ground. As she screamed, he used her head to shatter the restroom mirror, running down the full length of it while smashing her into it at several points. He dropped the remains of what he held, washed his hands with soap, dried them, then exited the restroom.
The inmates that rallied for the cause of genocide attacked the station. Fortunately, they were nowhere near Genocide in terms of power and only carried one type of firearm each. They shared his healing ability but could be killed quite easily. Gracia encountered a sniper on the end or a west wing hallway. Other officers waited behind corners unable to get close. Gracia noticed the faulty lighting. In this hallway, the lights flickered in intervals of 3 seconds. Finding a pattern and timing her movements, she rushed the sniper at the exact moment the lights went out. Running the length of the hall, Gracia zigzagged, dodging the sniper inmate's bullets. She jumped on a wall, ran 3 feet on it, then kicked off it, pouncing on the assailant. She fired five shots into him, making sure to hit the brain and the heart. Two severe injuries that were impossible for Shinigami essence to heal simultaneously. Elsewhere, Evans took on another escaped inmate. A vehicular arsonist named Carson. Carson had a bag filled with an assortment of different grenades and was happily giving them out like candy on Halloween. "A flash bang here, a bit of tear gas there. Oh. Wait! Was that an ice grenade? Did the explosion freeze your leg to the floor? Whoops. Maybe a fire grenade will melt that for you. Hold on let me get one fore you," Carson rambled gleefully. Evans looked at the carnage before him. Officers burning. Officers partially frozen in blocks of ice. He took a breath and aimed his wristgun. He steadied his right forearm. Carson readied to throw a random grenade. Evans shot it the moment it left Carson's hand. The grenade exploded directly in front of Carson. Both Evans and Carson looked at each other in shock. Confetti. A party grenade? Carson quickly fumbled for another but was tackled and restrained by several officers. Meanwhile in the South wing, Lary had some colleagues set a trap for another shotgun toting inmate. He had them bait the inmate and flee. Giving chase he turned a corner and ran straight into Lary's fist. The inmate recovered and motioned to shoot Lary. "Let's tango. " Lary gave the code word. Nearby officers activated a device. A signal jammer of sorts. The inmate shoved the barrel of his gun into Lary's gut and pulled the trigger. Nothing. The special signal jammer in question was designed for firearms. It was a last resort as it left officers just as defenseless. Lary was having fun. He boxed the inmate in hand to hand combat. Despite the inmate's enhanced strength, Lary's technique pulled through. Lary ducked under one of the inmate's wide punches and did some type of rising uppercut where he jumped off the ground while spinning. One of the other officers whispered" The rising dragon." Lary smiled giving a thumbs up" Yeah, it was a rising dragon uppercut. Saw it in one O my kid's vidya games. Thought I'd try it out while I'm jacked on adrenaline".
Jim Jimenez looked long and hard at himself in the mirror. He was in the women's restroom. Some brainless woman had broken the men's restroom mirror with her face. For the first time in a long while Jim could think clearly. He was becoming sane. At the least he was no longer a raving lunatic. The life essence of the dark gods had healed the wounds to both his body and his mind. He saw his face, his scraggly dirty beard. He found a razor and shaved. He trimmed his beard somewhat. He liked it. He washed his hair. It fell down his face like silk, no longer greasy. His bloodshot eyes once burning with crazed intensity had cooled. He blinked. Just for a second, he saw the man known as Genocide. The man that attacked him. The one that killed him and gave him new life. The drug dealers. The police. They were all the same in his eyes now. They were all to blame for the world being what it is. Jim wanted to hate them. He wanted to take revenge, but he felt nothing. It didn't matter. He knew he was wronged, could logically justify acting against them, but he just didn't care anymore. About anything. He was finally free. Sensing his presence was no longer needed here, Jim vanished into the night. He needed to find someone who had had the answers he needed. Himself. Who had he been? Who was he now? Who could he become? Where was he going? So many questions to ponder indefinitely. So much time left in the rest of his life.
Genocide ran down the station's halls raining hailstorms of bullets upon its occupants. He had a handgun in each hand as well as a wristgun on each wrist. This effectively gave him 4 separate firearms that he could use simultaneously. Lary regrouped with Gracia, Evans, and a handful of others. They radioed all surviving officers near Genocide to flee to the roof. This plan had been set in motion days before the assault and had been kept hidden from most of the force. The plan involved scheduling flights for several helicopters to arrive at some point after Genocide arrived. There would be no way for him to prepare for them and pre-scheduling their arrival ensured they arrived regardless of if they were called or not. Lary and the others set about preparing the second jamming device. Genocide stood among a hallway of bodies. He saw one man clinging to life trying to crawl away. He decided on trying that other thing he saw his master do. He grabbed the dying man and pinned him to the wall. Slowly he drove a knife into his chest. As the man's life slipped away, something else entered his body. Genocide channeled a small amount of his essence into the vessel. He had steadily done this with other casualties around the station whose bodies were somewhat salvageable. He dropped the body he was holding and looked upon the others. He closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them, his eyed were black, both sclera and iris. The scene before him changed. Genocide had a vision. He saw a dead gray wasteland littered with bodies. These people however weren't cops and wore traditional Japanese attire. In his hand wasn't a gun or knife but a short sickle akin to a farming tool. He heard a dark voice call out to him. Slowly, the corpses around him began to rise, now mere puppets bound eternally to their master's whim. The bodies sold to the reaper who had claimed their lives. Genocide's vision ended. His eyes had returned normal. Around him, dead cops began to rise. His dark essence had entered their bodies and reanimated them. He sent his dead army to attack the officers fleeing to the roof of the station. These zombies swarmed the stairwell giving chase to the few survivors. There were five of them. They had two flights of stairs to climb and a horde of their former colleagues close behind them. One officer tripped and was set upon by the horde. The zombies didn't bite them but held them firmly in place. The other four officers stared down wondering what to do. They could hear Genocide chuckling. They could hear humming. They could feel the temperature rising. Their colleague and the two zombies holding him were hit by an enormous green fireball. Genocide had fired a Magnum Opus and had charged the bullet to level 3. The Magnum Opus was simply a magnum that shot fireballs, with bullets that could be charged by holding down the trigger. It had three levels of charges. Level 1 was a small reddish ball of plasma. Level 2 was slightly larger and yellow. Level 3 was the maximum charge and resulted in a large slow moving green blast of energy. The officer was ignited and Genocide watched gleefully as the force of the blast sent him flying through a wall. The four officers continued up firing occasionally to slow down the zombies. Soon they made it to a door leading to the roof. Before one officer could reach it, he was sniped by Genocide, a bullet to the head killing him instantly. The remaining three made it out. They regrouped with the others already there, 12 in total, including Lary, Evans, and Gracia. This would be their final stand. They just had to hold out until Genocide made it up there. They just had to keep Genocide occupied until the helicopters arrived. Genocide slowly ascended the stairs behind his horde. On the roof, the remaining survivors faced off against waves of the undead. Evans recognized the attackers. These zombies were being controlled by nanomachines. He heard the stories of several weapons encountered by soldiers on the battlefield. These creatures were called Metaldeads as they were reanimated via machines. They had been officially banned by most of the worlds' governments for being unethical. However, this did not stop the technology from being spread still between shady organizations, terrorists, etc. Evans wondered how Genocide got this form of nanotechnology. Evans long speculated that the dark essence used by most of the killers they encountered was a a form of nanotech however it was different from anything else he had seen or heard about. The dark essence seemed to be an amalgamation of other types of nanotech. Evans had to save his inquiries for later. He reloaded his wristgun and took aim at the approaching group of Metaldeads. Gracia steadied her handgun and shot two Metaldeads in the head. From the single door countless arms seemed to spill forth from the darkness. The other officers took turns firing in intervals. this allowed them to create a steady stream of fire where no more that three guns needed to be reloaded at once. The horde seemed to thin out over time as if they were making progress. In actuality, the Metaldeads were just making room for Genocide to enter. Genocide exploded in a sprint from the door. Everyone fired upon the killer. Genocide had now chosen a wrist mounted mini flamethrower to use as his weapon. He stormed past the oncoming bullets taking some damage, but refused to slow down. He unleashed a stream of fire that caught five of the officers in one fell swoop. Gracia fired five rounds into Genocide's face. He stumbled back. Lary took the chance to fire several mine gun bullets at Genocide's feet. The mines quickly detected his movement and exploded. In seconds, Genocide was on his back.
Staring at the night sky Genocide saw the moon. He reached for it. He called for the darkness to give him more power. His wounds began healing. In the sky he could hear the whirl of propellers. There were six helicopters in total. The first two had evacuated the survivors while the others stayed to engage Genocide. Genocide got up and unstrapped the sniper rifle from his back. He stood before the searchlights as a black silhouette, cornered but unwilling to back down. Lary stared down at him smiling. "Okay!" He shouted, "Let's Tango!" Upon this declaration the second jamming device was activated. Now, isolated on the roof, Genocide's guns couldn't be fired and the helicopters were out of range of the device. Now Genocide stood like a sitting duck. A helicopter fired a rocket. Genocide side stepped and grabbed it. He turned his body redirecting the rocket to hit another helicopter. As it exploded Genocide drew his knife and threw it at another helicopter. Behind the knife was such force that it shattered the helicopter window's glass, embedding itself in the pilot. This helicopter too went down where it exploded. "Holy clucknuggets!Did you see that!?" Lary said dumbfounded. Evans looked out the helicopter door he was in jaw open in shock. "There's no way." He collected himself quickly and radioed the remaining two helicopters to keep moving and to use their machineguns as much as possible. The helicopters reigned down upon Genocide tearing apart his body. Shreds of leather and darkened blood sprayed across the pavement of the roof. Gracia watched as Genocide's body was destroyed repeatedly as it tried to heal. Surely he had to stop at some point. After 10 minutes the helicopters had exhausted their cache of ammunition and soldiers opted to fire their own rifles and occasionally throw grenades. After about six minutes, they too had run out of bullets. Genocide stood unfazed. He had long since healed himself and now appeared intangible with gunfire seeming to pass through his body. His coat once ripped , now appeared whole though on closer inspection seemed to writhe. Gracia looked in horror as she remembered the tales her adopted father had told her. Tales he had in turn heard from his predecessors. Every so often officers had reported encounters with ghost like beings cloaked in a cloud of living dark mist. The beings were rumored to be responsible for the deaths of multiple people ranging from scientists, veterans, mafia, politicians, etc. They were seen near such crime scenes and even more shockingly appeared around several sites where suicides were committed. These beings were reportedly impervious to bullets and filled anyone who got near with an impending sense of dread. If Genocide was connected to them or somehow turning into one , there was little chance they would be able to defeat him. Gracia's fears were confirmed when she saw that Genocide's leather coat had been destroyed and he had replaced it with the dark mist coalescing from his own spilled blood. The dark mist, swirling, grew larger and several tendrils sprouted out from it. Gracia could briefly make out a figure standing next to Genocide. A hooded figure cloaked in the same black substance. The figure stared up at her with soulless, blackened eyes which seemed to beckon her to jump from the aircraft she was standing in. Compelling her to give in to the death that plagued the earth. Genocide kneeled to his master. The Shinigami, Masataka stared down at his disciple. "You have done a great service to us. Even now the sealed god stirs in its slumber. Its...Awakening will soon be upon us. It calls out for war. It begs for famine. It longs to continue its conquest. We are the death it so desires. The death that is necessary for this civilization to grow. Use the power that I have bestowed upon you. Finish the mission as you see fit." The Shinigami vanished and Genocide stood.Genocide stared at his hands. He remembered the first killing spree. He was on a bus. It stopped. A woman got on the bus and walked to the back smiling as she passed him. Something about her eyes unnerved him. They were so bright but something dark reflected inside them. He ignored the thought and put in his headphones. In minutes he had dozed off. He jumped awake. He looked around and froze in panic. All around him, everyone had been hacked to pieces. He saw the driver, actively being stabbed by a masked assailant. The mask, painted white with black eyeholes, stared back at him. It raised a finger over where its lips would be. Even under the expressionless visage, he could feel that same smile. He ran home that morning. He went to his room to find it destroyed. His posters, his computer, his tv, everything, had been ruined. He turned around and saw a man at the end of the hallway holding a sledge hammer. "The hell you been, boy?", his stepdad sneered. The man dropped his hammer and walked closer, veins pulsing with rage. He tried to explain how his car had caught fire forcing him to walk 4 miles to the nearest bus stop, but the man's fist was faster than his words. "Boy!Answer me when I talk to you!!" the man says as he backhands the taste out of the would be Genocide's mouth. He took that beating for several minutes before being left to stare at his ransacked room. He hated how his stepdad went out of his way to destroy the things he loved. Soon, another set of footsteps could be heard. It was his mother standing behind his locked door. She didn't knock, or say anything. She just stood there, doing nothing as always. He never knew if she came to talk to him or apologize. All he knew was that she could never bring herself to speak to or even acknowledge him. Maybe out of guilt or perhaps shame. A year or two later after he had had enough he ran away from home. Living out on the streets alone, without friends, or family, he would embark on countless killing sprees. These killings weren't of his own volition however. He was coerced by some corrupt officers from The Unit. They made him kill on their behalf. Sometimes they were protesters, sometimes they were drug dealers, other times, petty criminals they couldn't be bothered to process. It was routine for him to be used to kill entire houses of drug riddled addicts. During one such venture he entered a drug den, killing the dealer as instructed. He took out several junkies before turning to leave. A woman who survived her injuries clung to his heel begging him to stop. Looking down he aimed the handgun he was carrying at her head of long disheveled brown hair and fired. Feeling nothing, he kicked her body aside like trash when it hit him. Her face. This woman had been his mother. What was she doing in a place like this? He felt a shock of emotion. He wondered if she had always been like this, or had she changed after he left. He never made amends, but decided to stop killing from then on. The unit did not like that. Once it became apparent that he was no longer of use to them they started a manhunt to apprehend him with lethal force. They found him. They killed him. But he survived.
He remembered the girl on the bus. He remembered her eyes. Those of a sadistic killer. Still there was something else inside them. Something faint but deeper. So. Much. Sadness. Just like him. He felt the hatred begin to spread. His purpose, he decided, was to make all humans rot in the hell they created for him.
These people, he thought to himself, these living diseases, all needed to die. Their struggles, their problems, they spread like cancer to others. The only cure for humanity's sin, its collective wrongdoings, was genocide.
Around him, dark tendrils continued to form and expand, spinning in a vortex. Genocide pulled out two pistols. He squeezed the triggers to no effect. "As I see fit, huh? Hehe." He squeezed both guns in his hands, breaking them into pieces. He concentrated. In his hands, two more guns materialized now completely black due to being forged from the dark essence. Forged by his will. Immune to the jamming device that shut down conventional firearms. He raised his arms at each remaining helicopter and opened fire. Countless tendrils whipped out and slashed at his targets joining the dark essence bullets. It was chaos. Dark tendrils and bullets tore through every direction as Genocide spun and swirled around in 360 degrees firing randomly with purpose. A tendril pierced Gracia's right arm, another, her abdomen. She was however, fortunate, as the other passengers of her helicopter were dismembered. She barely had time to jump from the vehicle before it crashed. She fell 2 yards onto solid concrete. She felt immense pain as her right shoulder shattered on impact. She looked up to see Genocide's blade like appendages ripping through the other escape helicopters. She rolled onto her back and tried to steady herself. Within seconds her body began to repair itself. The nanocells inside her had saved her life but were now depleted. She would need another supplement lest she receive another fatal injury. The standard nanocells she and the others had were much less potent than those of the killers they faced. In truth, they had only minimal strength boosts being able to lift 5-8 more pounds than before and healing being limited to one or two fatal injuries so long as death didn't occur instantly. Gracia blacked out. She awoke the next morning in a hospital. There the doctors refilled her nanocells. She learned that the station had been left in ruins. Genocide had detonated some type of minature nuke following his rampage. He always blew up the stations as if to send a message. Gracia looked out the window thinking about why she became a cop. Twice her family had been murdered by them. Her biological family had been killed in an on record drug raid committed by a group of corrupt officers called The Unit. She had been adopted by another officer that arrived at the scene who found her as a child hiding in a closed. Sadly, he too was killed for trying to expose the activities of The Unit. Gracia joined the force to avenge both losses and bring justice to the killers that disguised themselves as normal people. Law enforcement was neither good, nor bad. It depended upon the people that made it up. In the dying corrupt world Gracia lived in, she vowed to be a beacon of light. Evans laid in a bed adjacent to Lary. "That damn Genocide's somethin else in' he?Like the stories you told us were understatements. That man could legit not die at this point in the story. Like he has friggin plot armor or somthin.'' Evans cut him off" I get it. We all got our asses handed to us. But did you see that ..thing that appeared next to him. Right before he created that black vortex that wiped us out. That must have something to do with his power. Maybe there's a still a way to stop him."Lary chimed in," That fella looked like he was on the way to a black metal concert wit all the black facepaint he was wearin' Creeped me out to be honest." As the survivors mulled over their predicament, the cycle of evil continued to spread elsewhere.
Budley flips through the pages of a magazine. He checks his watch. He looks around the gas station and doesn't see any customers. Seizing the opportunity, he puts in his headphones and begins playing an imaginary guitar as he jams to a progressive deathcore album. Oblivious to the screams coming from outside, the store clerk moves on to thumping two candy bars on the counter to simulate drums. Budley sees that his shift has ended and begins locking up the store. He sweeps the aisles and jumps as a shadow appears behind him. He turns and sees a well groomed bearded man dressed in a black hoodie, black shirt, and black and gray camo pants. The man holds out his hand and smiles. Budley rings up the pack of nicotine substitute gum. "Tryin to kick the habit huh?" Budley asks. The man replies, "Somethin like that. Gotta get my priorities back in check. Focus on the things that really matter. That damn KonCreep's a hell of a band aren't they?" He nods to the playlist on Budley's phone. "Yeah, they're killer. just got into them a month back." Budley answers. "You know, I'm something of a musician myself. Maybe you'll hear of me on the news someday." Jim Jimenez says as he sees himself out. He walks to the back of the building and passes an ominous form of graffiti. A woman lays unmoving and above her, written on concrete in red is a message that simply says "Genocide Reigns".

2024.05.14 19:39 PhantasmagoriaLuna Phantasphere-Genocide Reigns Part 1

Genocide Reigns
(note: I'm an indie game developer making an action/horror title called Phantasphere. This story is a spin off set in the same universe)
Year 2480X Ryze County Police Department
He's coming. The ensuing panic spread like a virus infecting all present with symptoms of looming dread. Officers worked steadfast to prepare also taking what time remained to train the few combat hardened civilians whom had fled to the station earlier. If only they knew. This demon that presented itself as a man had led a string of senseless massacres across the country. Only recently had it begun to prioritize police stations and army bases as a means of breaking the will of civilians who knew they would be next. Officers from several counties across the states were transferred here for this last stand. This Genocide must not continue. Gracia checked her pistol. Some 20 bullets remained. "I can do this", she thought, "I have to". She had dealt with similar cases before. Some poor soul is overtaken by some inextricably evil force and makes it their life's work to propagate death. Gracia had killed quite a few already. Live arrests weren't always possible. Beyond saving, careful interrogations of the scarce live catches yielded a startling connection. These killers all alluded to a well of overwhelming hatred and despair that consumed them after making eye contact with...Pale, black eyed entities. Some type of demon? Ghost maybe? The idea seemed nonsensical, but there was evidence nonetheless that some outside force was using them to fulfill some unknown purpose. At the present time, all they could do was stop the killers after they had killed. It was always too late by then and more would appear randomly elsewhere. What good could be done here in an isolated station hoping to stop one guy out of possibly hundreds? "The guy we're waiting for is different from the others," detective Evans spoke from the center of a crowd nearby. Gracia moved in closer. "The others typically strike from the shadows, hide their faces behind masks, and prefer to get up close and personal with their victims. What we're dealing with is on a completely different scale. The trail of bloodshed this guy leaves is too difficult for the media to cover up. He loves the spectacle. Headlining the news. We can't keep using the burst pipeline excuse for 6 stations being destroyed in a row. We have to stop him before the world at large finds out. You wonder why we need so many people here? Its simple. We're gonna out-man this one man. He always attacks stations through the front door. Like other killers he's fast, strong- you know the usual, but he also uses guns." "What!", a voice rang out from the crowd. "They aren't supposed to do that!" another gasped. Officer Lary spoke with a cheesy grin" Ya tellin' me we just gotta deal with a regular ass gunman eh? That's a welcome change of pace init? Heck I'm too old to be running around being chased like I'm in some scary movie". The detective rebutted" You don't get it. He uses guns. Not a handgun, not rifles, not boom sticks, not rpgs, not knives not grenades but ALL of them. He uses guns. Plural. It'll take essentially an army to match his arsenal. He used to be a man named -redacted-, but in his pursuit of chaos he has become Genocide." A dark form manifests from the night outside the station. Genocide is coming.
Bang! something slams into the front door. Everyone freezes. Officer Tatum edges slowly to it, shockgun in hand. By no means lethal, the shockgun was lighter, easy to control, and could stun targets temporarily. If Genocide was here, Tatum could stun him and duck for cover leaving the station free to light him up like a Christmas tree. That was the plan they came up with. He got closer to the glass door and peered outside. He was met with hate filled bloodshot eyes framed by an unkempt beard and wild straggly hair. Tatum felt some relief. He knew the man outside. It was Jim Jimenez. Jim was a former drug dealer turned informant. He was found out and had to flee from his old life. He became homeless, hiding in plane sight. This allowed him safety at the cost of his mental health. Tatum knew the man, but those eyes were not his. Tatum blinked and saw that the look of malice had vanished. What he instead saw was a helpless, wounded man, bleeding from the right arm pleading for help. Tatum looked behind Jim, eyeing the empty lot. The coast seemingly clear Tatum unlocked the door and let Jim in. Jim had been roaming the town looking for shelter and tried squatting in an abandoned looking apartment complex. There he found that the building contained several murdered families some succumbing to gunshots but the majority having met their end to fire and suffocation. Jim had decided to make his way to the station to tell police what happened and met trouble on the way. He described getting stabbed by a man wearing a trench coat with long dark hair. Despite the injuries, Jim could move surprisingly well and seemed to ignore the pain. Jim insisted that the man had spared him on the condition he deliver a message. "What message?" Tatum asked. Jim beckoned him to come closer. Tatum leaned in and Jim whispered, "Tell them. Tell them that Genocide is coming closer." The following events were a blur. Jim had concealed the knife he was stabbed with. He stabbed Tatum 4 times in the chest and wrestled his shockgun away. Using Tatum as a shield, Jim engaged everyone in the lobby. Jim wasn't himself. He was stronger. He was faster. He was tactical. He would stun an officer in place only to stab them and use their as a body shield. No one could get a clear shot without hitting a colleague. Gracia watched the scene unfold. In minutes Jim had acquired a magnum from the holster of one of his victims. In seconds 3 officers had their heads exploded. The magnum rounds coated the walls red with those they hit and stained the clothes of those they missed. Gracia felt fear rising in her chest. She calmed herself and tried to think. She saw the bodies on the ground. The blood. She saw how dismissively Jim stepped over them. Like they were nothing. Like trash. She saw the man firing erratically into groups of people, not so much to kill but as to cause panic. That's it! As Gracia contemplated her next move it hit her. She was knocked backwards and landed on the ground. She weakly clutched her chest. Her breathing grew shallow. Jim mad his way deeper into the station. The officers were retreating from their standoff. Jim stepped over her body and saw red staining her uniform. Just another casualty. He moved on. At this point the civilians began panicking. Everyone gave up trying to save their allies and fired blindly at the madman. "Don't shoot the messenger," Jim laughed as he stripped his latest meat shield of an automatic rifle. Detective Evans took cover behind an overturned desk. To his left Larry struggled to light a cigar. "You still think this is a cakewalk?" Evans shouted firing 2 quick shots from his gun before ducking back down. Lary lost hold of his lighter and it clattered on the ground." Crap." He reached for it and looked in the corner of the room. A mirror. He looked at it for what seemed like ages and his smirk returned " Y'know that mex'n gal with the short hair. Where is she? I didn't see her get shot." Evans glanced a peak at Jim spraying lead in all directions. Behind him was a corpse. Evans blinked. It seemed to be getting closer. Its her. Gracia painstakingly inched her way into Jim's blind spot. She was roughly 6 feet away from him. Flanking him seemed like a brilliant idea but waiting idly by for the right moment as the people around her died filled her with anger. Worse still, she had to steal a blood soaked shirt from one of the deceased officers to keep up the facade. Inching ever so steadily she mad it within 3 feet of Jim. She reached behind her belt and unclipped a pair of handcuffs. Screams could be heard as more people were hit. Gracia couldn't wait any longer. Fluidly she got to her feet and rushed Jim. She kicked the back of his knee causing him to stumble as she put the handcuffs on him. Figuratively. The handcuffs were around Jim's neck. She yanked him back causing his gun to drop. "You don't know what you're doing." Jim spat. "We all need to accept it. The end of days is upon us. Death rides his horse through these forsaken lands. We must serve or be sacrificed in turn. Accept it!"He elbowed Gracia in the ribs causing her to let go. He spun around and lunged at her. She landed on her back, Jim steadily choking her. Gracia thought fast. She couldn't struggle. Jim was too strong. She delivered a precise chop to the center of Jim's neck which was exposed. Jim lurched back to catch his breath. A clean shot. A bullet pierced through Jim's back. Weakened, Gracia rolled him over and began punching him repeatedly using the handcuffs as brass knuckles. The sound of Jim's skull cracking echoed through the station. This would go on for nearly 20 seconds before Gracia stopped, checked his pulse, confirmed Jim was still alive, then finally put the cuffs on Jim's wrists.
Click. Bodies are wrapped and moved to a makeshift storage room. Click. The available weapons are gathered and redistributed. Click. Officers are assigned to sniping positions on neighboring buildings. Click. Police cruisers circle the lot outside. Click. In the holding cell, Jim opens his eyes. Click. Lary flicks his lighter. Click. Gracia sips coffee from a paper cup. Click. Shells hit the ground at the feet of Genocide. Click. Genocide walks outside a cafe and looks at the station in the distance. Click. Lary clicks his lighter.
"All ya'll gon' fall," Jim ranted." You can't drain the ocean. You can't put out the sun. Evil will always exist. That there Genocide is proof . I saw him. Saw myself within his eyes. Saw the evil in me that I could no longer try to hide. He taught me to embrace the darkness within. Its in all of us begging to be let out. Can you hear it!" Lary clicked his lighter and got up from his chair. He grabbed a cup of liquor from another officer mid sip and walked over to Jim. He doused it on Jim, the liquid stinging his open wounds. Jim yelped. Across the station, radios blurred to life. Several of their lookouts on the outside had been killed. "He's gon' get ya," Jim smiled imitating Lary's signature grin. "Genocide! Genocide! Genocide!" The other inmates saw the chance to irritate Lary and joined in all shouting in unison,"Ge-No-Cide! Ge-No-Cide! Ge-No-Cide!" The chanting grew louder. Unbearable. They invoked upon the name of the beast, and so it came.
Genocide is upon us. A wave of dread spread across the officers. They could feel its presence. Gracia knew the sensation. The awful aura that the other killers gave off. This was different. Far more oppressive. She struggled to breathe as the air got colder. Her instincts screamed for her to run. She could only imagine what the others were going through. Its time. Across the lot Genocide stood. A siren blared over the intercom. "Everyone get into positions!" Evans yelled. Wayne finished setting the last of the c4 near the station entrance. "That's the last of them. Have remote triggers set around all the major hallways. I'll be in the security room ready to pull the switch." Wayne acted as an explosives expert. His job was to detonate bombs placed throughout the station to slow down Genocide should it enter the building. He would stay in the security room, monitoring the cameras and giving real time updates on the officers' positions. From the holding cell, inmates chanted for Genocide. Lary got off his phone" That bastard mixed us up. How did we not notice?" Evans asked what he meant. Lary, dumbfounded, said that most of the town was already dead. Genocide had broken his usual pattern. He went on a killing spree across a defenseless town BEFORE attacking the police station. They had let everyone down. The people they swore to protect. This Genocide was a monster, but he was still a man. Capable of learning from his past actions. Planning. Adapting. It wasn't in his style to stealthily kill his victims or even use a silencer on any of his guns, but an exception had been made for tonight. An exception that would cost them. Gracia was stationed on the second floor. She peered out the window. Her heart skipped a beat. Two cruisers made slow donuts patrolling the lot and standing unmoving between them was a man all in black. Gracia called in to Wayne asking if he saw anything outside. Wayne said the monitors were all clear then checked again. He cursed. He noticed small details were off. The cameras showing the outside of the station were wrong. Sure they showed the same scenery and weather but cars passed by on screen too frequently for a dead town. Too many to make sense for the quarantine they had set in place. Wayne concluded that the cameras had been hacked. Different prerecorded footage was being shown on the live feed to misdirect them. Gracia saw the man look up at her. A light rain started to fall. The officers patrolling outside were contacted. From the holding cells, inmates called for genocide.

2024.05.14 19:22 SlashCash29 The major theodicies fail under scrutiny

I could probably go on a limb and assume everyone here knows what the problem of evil is, but just in case:
Premise 1: The bible describes god as all powerful and all good
Premise 2: god doesn't like evil (Psalm 5:4) (Proverbs 8:13)
And when I use the word "evil" think of all the things god says not to do. From getting a divorce to being gay to wearing mixed linens. Y'know, all that depraved stuff that's worthy of death!!! UwU (seriously though when I say "evil" I just mean anything outlined as "sin")
Premise 3: god (probably) doesn't like suffering(while I couldn't find any verses where god explicitly says he doesn't like human suffering, Revelation 21:4 at least implies that he plans to do away with it and it does stand to reason that an all-good, all-loving god would be opposed to suffering)
Premise 4: There's a lot of evil and suffering in the world. Like, a lot
Premise 5: if an all powerful and all good god existed he wouldn't make a world with so much evil and suffering
Conclusion: The god described in the bible does not exist
Easily the most popular and easiest to explain argument against god, but one that has long been contested and argued against. Which is where theodicies come in. Theodicies are arguments that attempt to prove god has some reason to allow evil and suffering to exist.
In this post I will attempt to disprove the major theodicies, proving the problem of evil to be a logically coherent argument against the existence of god.
Let's start with the one I dislike the most: God allows evil in order to facilitate higher order goods
Now, let's set aside how appalling, emotionally speaking, the idea that a world where people get beheaded and gored and burned alive has more moral value than a world with none of these evils because of "Higher order goods" or something, actually is.
This argument is also logically bankrupt. For evil to be justified under this theodicy, it must allow for some higher order good to obtain. There's no way for bravery to exist without fear. So that particular evil is necessary for bravery to exist. With this in mind, answer me this:
What Higher order good can ONLY be brought about when an earthquake makes a building collapse on a family of five, or when an infant chokes to death on a particularly large lego brick. What good could possibly come from somebody getting struck by lightning and dying with 3rd degree burns and charred skin(it may not happen often but it happens) or when a Muslim girl is publicly executed for trying to learn how to read?
Set humans aside for a minute and consider animal suffering. What good can come about from a tree falling on a deer's leg? While it starves to death with a broken limb in agony, where nobody can hear it's cries. What good is achieved by this? When an antelope has it's throat crushed in a lion's mouth, why would a good god allow this cruelty? If an evil thing cannot facilitate some higher order good it can't be justified by this theodicy. So tell me: what higher order good's can only come from these?
Aside from this, consider the fact that there is no evil in heaven. To be philosophically consistent, one would have to claim that our world has more moral value than heaven because it has goods that can't exist in heaven. Heaven, being eternal and all, is the last stop for god's children, so if this is where the righteous are meant to live forever, and god truly believed a world with the higher order goods facilitated by evil is better than a world without evil, then why isn't there evil in heaven?
Finally, consider that evil did not exist in the world before the original sin. It was only after Adam and Eve's slip-up that the hearts of man became utterly evil or something. So if you believe that god wanted evil to exist in the world, and acknowledge that evil didn't and couldn't exist until Adam and Eve ate the possibly metaphorical apple, you must then be committed to the belief that god punished Adam and Eve for something he wanted them to do.
The Second Theodicy: God allows evil because without it, we would have no concept of good.
This argument states that evil is to good what shadow is to light; the former is simply an absence of the latter and one cannot be appreciated without the other, or, as put by C.S Lewis: "A man has no concept of a straight line unless he has seen a crooked one."
This isn't as much of a slam dunk as it sounds like on first glance once you consider that before the fall of man we had neither a concept of good nor evil. In an ideal state of affairs god was totally cool with us having no concept of good and since he actively discouraged Adam and Eve from committing the original sin, one can even argue he actively didn't want them to have such a concept.
Also, once again, there's no evil in heaven. So it's either the case that good can be appreciated without evil, or it really just doesn't matter that much.
Lastly, the moment we've all the waiting for, the one I like the most. the theodicy based on a concept that doesn't actually exist. Make some noise for: The free will theodicy.
This one is pretty self explanatory. God allows evil because, even though he doesn't like it when we do bad things, he respects our freedom and wants us to choose him for ourselves.
Two teeny-tiny problems with this: 1. Unless there is no free will in heaven, it is possible to have free will without committing acts of evil and 2. Free will in our world just doesn't exist.
I recognize the second claim needs a little more explaining:
Premise 1: All mental activity(whether material or immaterial for those of you believe believe in the soul) is either determined or indetermined.
Premise 2: If some particular mental activity is indetermined it is, by definition, random and out of our control. If it is determined then it is either determined by something outside our self and thereby not free will either, or determined by something further inside ourselves, in which case we can ask the same questions to figure out if that something is determined or indetermined. So on so and so forth until all causal chains with eventually terminate at something we can't control.
Conclusion: There is no free will.
With this done I hope I have provided a convincing argument for The problem of evil and against the Christian god and would be elated to hear rebuttals. In addition to this I would be curious to see if Muslims have some sort of way around this problem exclusive to their faith or something. Thanks in advance for the Civilized discussion. :)

2024.05.14 19:04 LVDirtlawyer Slug A - choice of final weaponry

After MV crashed and refused to load, I reinstalled FTL Vanilla and started going through some of my old favorites. RNG blessed my Slug A after numerous bad runs. I'm at the end of Sector 7. I have 3 Flak I and the Bio-beam equipped. I also have a Flak I and a BLII in the hold, and full hacking. No cloak, though. The BLII is a recent acquisition, given after I removed the crew from the the Rebel Stronghold ship two jumps ago.
I'm feeling pretty confident going into the final sector, so I just wanted to pose this question: The Flackening, the Flackening with precision, or the Flackening with the Delete Button?

2024.05.14 18:58 divorce-drama-throw Good and bad news

Over a year ago, my ex had me thrown out of the house on claims that I had been abusing her. In the last 6 months of our relationship, she had become increasingly unstable, accusing me of things that never happened, accusing me of being a narcissist and manipulating and abusing her.
After she had a public breakdown, I called 911 for a mental health check. And she never forgave me. She came home from the hospital to gather her possessions and take one of our children, and then returned weeks later with a restraining order.
It took money and time, but I eventually got visitation with my children. But not before her behavior ended up with my oldest hospitalized for his mental health and the complete breakdown of his relationship with his mother.
She blames me for this and says I am manipulating both children to hate her.
I eventually found out that my ex was dating my sister's abusive drug addict ex-boyfriend. And that they had probably been communicating since before we had broken up.
This ex boyfriend and helped my sister create evidence that her husband had abused her to get him thrown out of the house and arrested. He was later cleared.
Last fall, my ex began to experience "hacking" incidents on her devices and accounts and blamed me, even filing police reports for cyber stalking. I know little about computers and had nothing to do with it.
She has used this to block communication with my youngest son (my older son now lives with me).
Recently, I spoke with my ex brother in law, and he asked if I had been accused of hacking yet. When he saw my shock, he explained that my sisters ex-boyfriend had done the same thing to my BiL, hacking my sisters accounts to further distance her from her husband.
So, the bad news- I believe my ex is having a mental health crisis and has fallen in with an abusive man who is hacking her account and isolating her. And I can't help because he has convinced her I am evil.
The good news- The judge ordered a brief focused assessment, and the results were just released. The report clears me of her accusations and establishes the kids' behavior as her own doing.
I'm thrilled, as this allows me finally to get both kids into a calm, stable environment.
But I still mourn my wife. And I keep wishing I could help her escape the situation she's found herself in. But I can't. Because of her mental health (something the BFA also listed as a serious concern), I don't believe she has the ability to understand or get herself to safety.
I still care about her, and I feel so helpless. And it sucks that in order to do what's best for the kids, I have to leave her behind and in danger.

2024.05.14 18:29 HikerGal01 1.5 spoiler - after community center, started cataloguing the NPC responses for something not well recorded in the wiki

Spoilers for if you haven't completed the community center / joja upgrades. Spoilers for if you haven't completed the hidden bundle / extra joja upgrade. Sorry for excessive spoiler warnings but this post has been removed for spoilers before.
So I started recording the NPCs responses to each movie, because while the wiki says who likes, loves, or dislikes each film, it doesn't say what each NPC has to say about it. I think the theater reveals a lot about the NPCs, but since you can only go once a week, and each movie only comes back every other year, you can't see all their responses without starting the same day over and over.
I still recommend you go to the movies with your four favorite NPCs, or the NPCs you think would be interesting with the movie, but this can help satisfy your curiosity for the others. I will update as I get to watch more movies.

‘Mysterium.’ A faint silhouette in the dark… The desolate, unknown void of space… where untold horrors await. A variety of disjointed, other-wordly scenes play out… ‘You MUST tell your friends to see MYSTERIUM tonight… Or I will visit you in your sleep!’
.
Sebastian:

MIRACLE AT COLDSTAR RANCH
The Miracle At Coldstar Ranch. It’s the eve of Winter Star, and it’s been snowing for 3 weeks straight. The Coldstar family is stranded… getting to town is impossible. Fortunately, the cows have enough hay to get by. …But the family has run out of food. Still, Papa Coldstar braves the treacherous conditions to cut down the winter star tree… In spite of their hunger, the family decorates the tree, keeping the promise of Winter Star alive. That night, an unusual phenomenon… The next day, Mama Coldstar is astonished to find the tree adorned with cosmic fruit. “We believed in the Winter Star, and so we were remembered!” They all shared the Stardrop fruit. Despite its small size, it was the most filling and delicious meal they'd ever had. The family is saved, and the spirit of hope is alive and well. The promise of Winter Star is kept once again…

2024.05.14 18:14 xelmxy GODMODE9 didn't download FBI, Homebrew, etc...

Hey guys! I'm not that new to 3ds hacking, I've done it three or four times before this without any issue but recently I tried to hack a friend's console and I've run into some issues I cannot find answers to anywhere.
I was following everything on the 3ds hacks guide website and had gotten to the finalization section where you download GODMODE. The only difference I have had with installing GODMODE9 is that there was not enough storage, so I did have to use their troubleshooting guide to how to finalize the scripts and have enough storage to even do that. I deleted both the .bin and .bin.sha file off my SDcard (though they are both saved on my computer in a backups file) and booted up my console.
I just got a normal screen, no new software has been added, and when I check on the SDcard nothing has downloaded on it either. This greatly confused me as I had never run into any issues before, and the only thing I can think of why it did this was because I deleted those two files as I did nothing else differently. I've also checked to make sure all the files are in the correct places, and they are all there. GODMODE boots up fine and so does Luma, so I'm truly at a loss.
So, I'm not sure what my next step should be and I need some advice/answers to questions. Is there a way I can download FBI manually instead(from a trusted source)? Is there any way I can just delete GODMODE and all files to do with it completely and start over with the finalization section to troubleshoot better? Please let me know if you know anything about this!

2024.05.14 18:04 TamsynRaine I *think* I'm being punished for refusing to hug MIL.

Long history here with a boundary stomping and grudge holding MIL who refuses to engage in any sort of self reflection or take any responsibility for building relationships with me or my children. I dropped the rope almost two years ago and she has dedicated herself to the role of poor misunderstood little old lady who loves me soooo much.
I'm a hugger from family of huggers. My inlaws do not hug. Of course I'm fine with that, decades went by with zero hugs passing between us except for a sporadic rare hug here and there. I'm fine with this, I've never felt close to them and have no dsire to hug either one. Since I dropped the rope, however, MIL has embarked on a campaign to get me to hug her. First it was a run across the room at a funeral with open arms within a week of the rope dropping argument. I declined that hug with a no thank you. This was followed with a series of passive aggressive comments like a muttered "what, no hug?" during the few encounters we had for the next year or so. Last November she started campaigning for a Christmas visit and expressed an interest in sorting things out, she just wanted to give me a BIG HUG! Again I declined telling her that I'm not ready to hug her yet and I will let her know when I am. We saw them for an hour on Christmas Eve, I declined a hug again and we haven't seen them since.
My son graduated last Saturday and we invited the inlaws to the graduation and to join us with my mom and step dad for lunch with all of the kids afterwards. She declined the lunch (weird of course, since she's been using me keeping the grown kids from her as part of her smear campaign) because she was too tired to attend. Then she decided everyone had to hug her goodbye. She started with my mom? Weird, because they aren't friends or anything, but my mom politely hugged her back. I was standing next to my mom so she came at me next. I said "forced hugs? no thank you." Cue pikachu face and comment "hugs aren't ok now???" Reply, "Not everyone wants a hug, so one should ask permission first." My 20 year old daughter who was next in line said something affirming my statement.
So Mother's Day was Sunday here, one week and one day after the graduation. We did not see the inlaws or my mom, but DH and I both called our moms. Usually my MIL also send a happy mothers day text to me. She always has. This year she didn't. I'm totally fine with it because then I didn't have to wish her happy mother's day in return, but I know darn well that it was a deliberate action. I suspect its related to the "humiliation" of my refusing to hug her in front of my mom and children, despite having verbalized very clearly that I do not wish to hug her for the foreseeable future and I will let her know if that changes.
I'm equally turned off by the no hug graduation encounter, because I m in disbelief that once again she ignored my very clearly expressed preference and tried to bulldoze me in front of my mom, probably thinking that I wouldn't refuse after she very calculatedly hugged my mom first. I feel so sad for my DH who is finally realizing that she isn't all sweetness, love, and misunderstood innocence as she claims to be.
